(00:48):
So why is today glorious? Yes? The Braves did lose
and now the Mets are tied for the last wild yeh,
sure Diamondbacks lost two games back of that yet No,
but the NFL is back. It is day zero. We
are here and with a minute to go before halftime.
I'm a little nervous about me taking the over last
night like I did, like I.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Liked in his game.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
But football is here. It is back Chiefs and the
Ravens thirteen to seven, Chiefs with the lead. Patrick Mahomes
as we jump right, Incs, It's what we do on
Thursday nights. Mahomes gets picked off by Roquan Smith, which
is a big move for you, and you're yeah, good man, IDP, Yeah,
I don't know what he was trying to do, trying
to force a ball and he gets hit trying to

(01:31):
go to Rashi Rice and it's not even close. Rokwan
Smith picks it off. So now here come the Ravens
with about thirty seconds left to go and they are
just inside the Chiefs twenty yard line. This first half
has kind of been incredibly dominant by the Ravens, yet
they're down thirteen to seven. Lamar Jackson seems to be
able to do whatever he wants to do. But a

(01:53):
couple of mistakes. You saw him screaming at Nelson Agalara
a big fourth down that didn't convert, just a couple
of a couple of plays where boy Baltimore needed it.
But overall, Lamar Jackson is accurate. He's running the ball well,
he's throwing the ball well, and somehow the Ravens are
down thirteen to seven. He's weird.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
He's up over fifty yards rushing on the game. The
play you speak of, fourth down play, they go for
it at midfield and instead of doing a little chip
at the line to free up Za Flowers, he goes
into a half ass pass pattern. Flowers gets blown up immediately.
But if I block, you can't throw it to me.

(02:30):
But I'm not throwing it to you. Yeah, but what
if you want to throw it to me? If I block,
you can't throw it to me. But I'm not throwing
it to you.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
I wanted to win. How come I can't win? See?

Speaker 1 (02:40):
If I block, you can't throw me the football. So
why would I do that? I'm a wide receiver. Why
would you want me to buy? Yeah, but just chip
him at the line. Again. I don't get in the
pattern early enough, so I'm not catching the Again, you
can't throw me the ball if I block, But I
wasn't throwing it to you anyway. Yeah, but still now
I'm really not going to get the ball a friend
blocking Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Miserable Plight Chiefs had one of the many wide receivers
who will drop passes for Patrick Mahomes drop one inside
the five yard line, setting up the eventual Butcker field goal.
We got the early touchdown from Derek Henry, a first
possession that rolled through, but with a number of penalties
on the offensive line, and we just saw Jackson lose

(03:21):
his mind on the o line once again. Here is
we're in the final minute of the second quarter. Time
of possession is double for Baltimore. They've got over two
hundred yards of total offense as we sit here with
twenty seconds remaining in a timeout on the field like
all of that to say, and then in justin Tucker
miss which you I mean youbot lost your mind, see

(03:42):
your fantasy kicker? Yeah, just not because he's greatness was faltered.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
He's been my fantasy kicker. Like I think he and
my relationship goes back further than my wife and I wow,
like on this Dynasty League, I mean, it goes back
a long time. He and I fifty three yards and
he misses, and I'm like, dude, come on, man, you're
automatic from anything seventy and in come on.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
We're sitting there watching it drifting like really ugh, But.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Yes, a actually statistic wise, a miserable first half for
Patrick Malmes, who did have a couple of passes dropped
juju Smith Schuster dropped a pass that should have been
a touchdown, surprise, surprise. The Chiefs just attract receivers who, Hey,
I'm a receiver and I have talent, but when it
comes down to it, I'm gonna drop a big pass.
And the Chiefs seem to say, we can't get enough

(04:27):
of those guys. In fact, we're gonna get rid of
other guys that drop the ball to bring in new
guys that can drop the ball. That's what we're gonna do.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Well, and they all get Super Bowl rings in regardless. Xavi,
you're worthy with that great end around lightning. He looked
like Dash running around from the Incredibles twenty one yard
scamper for the touchdown. So all the big principles giving
you a little bit of juice here in the first half,
but all in all, you know, it's thirteen seven for

(04:55):
the up and down plays and some of the big
opportunities he really wanted. You're over should have been hitting
close to hitting it at this point.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Look, and I understand that. Look, this is part of
the NFL with with the way preseason is now The
first week of games are always rough, especially the opener,
which is a little bit earlier, so you're seeing some
plays not made that you like to think are gonna
get made later on. Right, maybe Nelson Aguilor is going
to actually chip on that play at some point, you know,
Week two, Week three, maybe Juju smith Schuster actually catches

(05:27):
that ball at the goal line when it hits him
in the hands instead of dropping it.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Right, pretty good job by the defender to get in
on him, but the ball hit his hand, he's got
to catch.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
And maybe Travis Kelce catches that pass. That's a big
third and five. That was a drop that was over right.
I get it, you know, I understand that that that
this is where we're at. But still, these two teams,
the level of excellence they're at, it still surprises me
a little bit that this is such a kind of
a kind of a stop and start game. But really,
I mean to sum up the first half, it's hey, xavier'

(05:57):
worthy as fast and it's it's one. It's a statistical
anomaly that somehow the Ravens are trailing this game when
when the Chiefs have the turnovers, the Ravens have the yardage,
they're up and down the field. It's really stunning, and
now it looks like they're gonna kick a field goal.
They're one more play, they're in the red zone, but
it looks like Lamar Jackson's coming off with nine seconds

(06:19):
left to go, Baltimore is out of timeouts, so I
believe they're going to kick a field goal so they
don't run the risk of not getting in the end zone.
So it looks like this is going to be a
thirteen to ten game. It's a chip shot. I shouldn't
say that, but it looks like it's going to be
a chip shot for Justin Tucker and this will wind
up being a thirteen to ten game at halftime.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Good job defensively, get the hands up, beat the ball down.
Look like a wide open receiver maybe be able to
sprint towards the end zone as we get down the stretch.
But you know, we watch the Ravens and one thing
a point of emphasis coming out of that AFC title
game was they didn't run the ball right, absolutely abandoned
the run. Well, they have six called runs in that

(06:59):
game and already at eighteen carries for one hundred and
five yards, eight carries for thirty three in the score
for Derrick Henry, including that bulldozer move at the goal line.
Lamar Jackson already up to sixty three yards rushing at
eight carries. Yeah, I mean he looked he he's the
guy that looks like this is week eight, right, that
he looks like last week whatever that amount of pounds was.

(07:22):
I mean he was already fast. Yeah, now he's that
much faster. Although if I see him go towards the
sideline and lower his shoulder to try to get another
half yard, like Harball's gonna kill my.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Good right, No no, no, no, no, no, no, yeah no. Look,
clearly the best player on the field tonight is Lamar Jackson,
and that that's what he looks like. And maybe it
is the weight loss, but he clearly looks like he's
operating at one level and maybe the rest of both
teams are operating at a different level. That's how good
he looks tonight.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Another thing we warned you about in here on the
show and then the iWatch Flex podcast Buyer and Isaiah
likely four catches thirty eight yards Andrews yet to record
a catch in this one.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Look. I wasn't going to bring that up because I
know that the most unhappy people in the world are
Patrick Mahomes fantasy owners. The second most unhappy people are
the people that started Mark Andrews. Why did I say
so it's so good? Why I said? He doesn't even
have a catch? I know, I know, well, yeah, I know,
And he's on the sideline, he's uniformed up, he's waiting.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
I mean, he had that car accident a couple of
weeks ago, and they disclosed absolutely nothing specific related to
that car accident. Finally got back to practice in uniform
and playing. I pushed him down a few notches in
the weekly rankings. I was tempted to push him further down,
but I'm like, now he'll at least get one or
two red zone looks, eh, that's probably looking like a
bad job by me. As Tucker trots onto the field.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
So with five seconds left in the first half, it's
going to be a field goal attempt by the Ravens
and the kick is good. Make it a thirteen to
ten game, as we have still have the kickoff to
go before halftime, and that's the big thing to get
into now for the next few minutes. Right, we caught
you up to date on the game. This is how
things are going. Lamar Jackson's the best player on the field.
The Ravens are playing better than the Taylor Swift.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Both. Yeah, they've shown it to ten to ten minutes.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Yeah, uh about three times they showed yeah, three times
Taylor Swift. Okay, uh. But the new kickoff rule is here,
and it is not what I feared because really, look
the kickoff. It just looks stupid. It looks stupid the
first time I saw it. It looks stupid. Now I'm
not a fan. If it creates excitement, it creates excitement.

(09:29):
But what we've seen so far as teams saying I'm
not going to take a risk with this, We're gonna
kick it through the end zone because it's five x
five years, right. If you really wanted to make it
a thing, right, if you really wanted to make the
kickoff a thing, you would have said, okay, if you
kick it off into the end zone, you start at
the forty right, that would have then it would okay,
Now we can't. Now you have to kick it deep

(09:50):
every single time you either started off.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Or you push it back to where you're kicking off
from the fifteen or twenty but.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
You go, you go. You're talking about being at the
at the at the twenty five yard line or the thirty.
No one's going to it's it's gonna take a while
before someone decides to say, hey, let's get risky on
the kickoff. Let's see if we can catch them napping.
Let's say, because teams, this may be exactly what it
is after a few weeks. If if teams are saying, okay,

(10:19):
let's examine where we're at now with a month of
data for the kickoff. We've been kicking it through through
the end zone, what what are what are teams like,
what are they doing when they take over at the
thirty yard like? What are their drives?

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Like?

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Is this hurting us? And if and if the data
comes back that you know, when teams start the thirty
yard line against us, they have a twenty six percent
more chance to score than when it's in the when
than when we're punting, then it's gonna be okay. Now
we have to kick off a little bit. But I
think this is what you're gonna see for the first
few weeks as team saying we're not gonna we don't
want to be the guinea pigs on this. We're gonna

(10:50):
kick it through the end zone. You start at the thirty, right,
I mean, you really wanted to make it work. It
would have been, hey, let's get out to put it
out to the forty yard like is that? Every kick
would have been short, every kick short because then it's well,
we think we're gonna get them before the forty yard line,
so we have to do it. There would be no touchbacks,
absolutely zero touchbacks we would see. But that's not what
the NFL did. Five yards Okay, not that big a deal.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
My prediction on the the data after a month was
that we'd be starting on average at the twenty eight
on any ball that actually got kicked off into the
landing zone.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Just terrible, terrible.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
Name the landing zone. Terrible graphic with everything else. Hey,
if my kid goes on Mount splash more, where do
I pick him up? Oh? The landing zone is right
down at the end, right around here, right next to
the tiki hut. Okay, great, thank you, OK, that's why
I pick him up right like that in the landing zone.
Can I can I get the The Italian ice is
right yes, the Italian ice is right around the corner.
Right there, landing Zone, tiki hut, Italian ice. No, no

(11:44):
alcohol in the tiki hut. The alcoholic bar is all
the way at the end of the park. Well we
know ways around that. For more inquire that's swollen dope.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
You know.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
And for the kickoff, if they try it this year,
I'm okay with them doing this, right, because you needed
to do something. You want to make the kickoff juice
and I understand. Yeah, but there's only so much you
can do, right, There's only so much for you realize,
you know what, there's just nothing more I can do.
But it's just not radical or nothing more.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Right.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
The five yards is not united, at least on the surface. Right.
Who knows, Maybe we're proven wrong.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
You got a bunch of wizards coaching special teams, or
suddenly you start getting big return after big return. I
don't bank on it. I bank on most of these
teams at least just saying screw it, we'll give up
the five yards.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
Yeah, and if the kickoff goes away after this year,
it goes away because there's only so much you can
do to try to make it happen again. It looks ridiculous,
it looks cfl it looks arena football. If it makes
it exciting, great, but teams are gonna say, we don't
want to give you the chance to make it exciting.
So if the kickoff is look, it's not that big
a deal. If the kickoff goes away. Okay, the kickoff

(12:51):
goes away, every starts twenty five yard line. Everybody be fine. Okay, great,
we're started the twenty We're fine, We're fine, We're absolutely fine.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
I'm more angry that they took away the surprise eyes
outside ky. That that's the thing that kind of takes me,
even though it's that often even then it's it's like
the old blackjack card analogy I made for Major League
Baseball on the double switch, when everybody tried to tell
you how smart thing National league managers are, Like, here's
the blackjack card. Read how many pitches your starter has,

(13:18):
where he is in the batting order, and who's coming up.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
That's all you need to do, a couple of variables.
Here we go.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
This is this is where I mean. I think I
think I could say something everybody's going to understand. Is
why it would be it's time. So it's always time
for something. You can't hold on any forever. I had
the greatest Syracuse shirt in the world, and I had
it for about ten years and I got it off Ebae's.
You know, I like to talk, you know, all my
stuff off eBay saved the Planet. And it was a
It was a T shirt from the nineties, right from nineties.

(13:48):
I had got about like twenty ten and it has
one of those T shirts where it had the T
shirt and then it had a little bit of the
three quarter sleeve that extended of a different color. Okay,
So I wore it so much, right because I wore
because it fit me so good. I wore it so
much that eventually I got holes in the elbows of
the three quarters. So I said, okay, know what I
gotta do. I gotta cut those. Now it's a T shirt.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Now it's a new look, like it's a whole new outfit.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
And wearing it so much, I had a hole in
the back on one of the seams. I actually caught
it on the back scene, ripped in the wash. I
was like, I can't leave the backs here. And then
they got to when you were don't make me angry,
don't watch the Jets, don't make me, don't watch the jets,
and so it got to the point I'm like, wow,

(14:35):
and this is my favorite shirt. So my aunt, who
is a wizard or a witch rather in sewing, I
got mailed it to her and I said, can you
repair this for me and sew it up? She goes, okay,
and I said it. She was, oh my god, this
shirt has had it. I said, no, it's not. There's
a lot of life left in that shirt. Can you
please just do it? She was like, yeah, of course,
she said it up. It doesn't, so she doesn't sends

(14:55):
it back out to me. I'll be like, all right, great,
so I wear the shirt more. Of course, there's more holes,
more things. The short sleeve starts to come, you know,
to come to come off, and I'm going, okay, I
got to cut the sleeves a little bit more now.
So I cut the sleeves a little bit more. So
now I have a shorter short sleeve shirt. Right then
I get a hole right under the neck and I'm like,
but I can still wear as long as a hole
in neck is not too big. She comes out to visit.

(15:15):
I said, hey, can do me a favor. Can you
kind of just touch up the bottom of this neck?
Here'm I like, go, okay, great. Suddenly she's a plastic surgeon,
and so I'm like, all right, great. So she goes
this shirt, come on, I go, yeah, but it looks
so good on me. It's my favorite SYRICU shirt. Okay.
Then I got a huge rip on right around the
shoulders of both of the of the the sleeve. So
I said, okay, I got to make this a tank

(15:37):
top now. So I cut it off, and now I'm
wearing a cutoff shirt.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Right.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
This is like ten years into wearing the shirt once
a week, right, like this is what I did. And
then eventually finally I wore it. And I remember I
wore it out to a barbecue or a cookout and
you know, everybody's posing for pictures. I look at it
and it looked like I had been in a fight,
like this shirt. I said in the pam, I go,
how do you let me wear the shirt like this
for this long? She goes, you loved it, it's your favorite,

(16:01):
trying to go yeah, but come on, look at it.
I looked like someone had grabbed me and like I
got in a fight. I said, I gotta get rid
of this. I gotta get rid of this and it
was really sad. But I knew, and I knew, I said,
this is it, so I put it in the I
didn't put it in the good will bag. I said,
no one should wear this anymore. This goes in and
I threw it away and I understood, and I you know,
it was a sad moment there for me because that
shirt and I go back a long ways, right, But

(16:22):
I get it was time to move on. If that's
the kickoff, it's time to move on. See.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
I had two pop culture references that go perfectly with this.
It's either the guy trying to sew Woody his arm
back on him to story right shoe, Sure, so I
got him, Or I got Homer in his sandwich. I
could never skame mad at you. It's green turns gray

(16:50):
and he keeps eating and he's sick as a dog,
but he can't let it go.

Speaker 1 (16:53):

Speaker 1 (19:14):
Yes, make sure makes sound tomorrow. I can't say this
about tomorrow, but tonight we're living for tonight. That's all
just so you know tom the game ton tonight. Yeah,
tragedy tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
Keith David doing the voiceovers for those Peacock ads too.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Ooh the shadow Man, My god. You know you want
to quit Keith David story? Sure you want a great
key Da story?

Speaker 4 (19:35):
Or are you gonna tell me a David Keith story
and try to try to trick me?

Speaker 1 (19:40):
Wait, they're not the same person. I don't I don't understand.
I don't. I don't get it. So about five three
four years ago, my wife and I are in downtown
LA having dinner at this new restaurant I wanted to try.
And one of my favorite movies is The Thing, and
it's one of my My best friend in Syracuse his
favorite movie is The Thing. Now we're going back. What
is that about eighty two? The Thing is one of

(20:02):
the best horror movies you can It's such a good movie.
And David Keith is what like the second build star
in that movie with Kurt Russell. So we're at dinner
and I notice, Oh my god, Keith David is at
the table next to me. I'm like, oh my god,
I can't believe this. So I call my friend. He
doesn't answer, like he's a Fireman's im like maybe he's
on a you know, it's late at night on the

(20:22):
East Coast. Whenever I said okay, So I said to
my wife, I said, okay, do me a favor. Pretend
you're taking a picture of me, and make sure you
get Keith David in the background. So my wife goes, okay,
sure I could do that. Sure, so if we do it,
and you know, obviously, you know, stars are kind of
you know, they kind of know what's going on. But
it's not like I even looked at him and got
caught staring at anything. My wife goes to take a

(20:43):
picture and she takes picture great, and she just I
think he knows I was taking a picture. I go
house goes, I don't know, look at it. So I
look at it, and sure enough, I'm smiling. But there's
plenty of room over my right shoulder. And he's standing
there and he's got his hand up touching his cheek
and he's looking at the camera smiling like he knew
when he sees the cameras up, someone's gonna take a picture.
So he took that picture. I said it to my

(21:05):
best friend, I go, look who is at the table
behind And he sends back like an hour later, Oh
my god, you saw Keith David? Did you walk over
trying to s pulled alcohol with him at the end
and say he's gonna sit there until the firebirds out.
You're gonna all freeze the don And I said, no,
I didn't do any of that.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
I just took this picture and that when it funny.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
But it's like he knew. It's like, oh eh, the
posey has just like you know, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
He's one of my favorite and obviously the best villain
in Disney movie history.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Oh shure, shadow Man wasdo U now again? Thirteen ten?
Second half? Just underway? The Chiefs have the football twenty
five yard line. Not to make it about me, but mahomes,
come on, man, get it going. Uh. Meanwhile, the other
big story out of Kansas City today and the Chiefs
in the NFL, it's just one of the worst optics

(21:53):
you could possibly Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
I mean, timing is everything, isn't it?

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Okay? Uh? Today we find out Chiefs souper Xavier Babudar,
who was better known as Chiefsholic, was sentenced to seventeen
and a half years in prison today without parole for
committing a string of armed bank robberies across the United States.
Now this story had come to our attention a few
months ago. He entered a plea deal in February in

(22:18):
which he admitted to stealing more than eight hundred grand
and eleven robberies across seven states and then laundering the
proceeds through casinos. So you know this is gonna wind
up being a movie. At some point. He pleaded guilty
to a couple accounts and now he's going to prison
for the next seventeen and a half years. He always
wear the gray wolf suit. He would go to Chiefs
games for years. Fans loved him.

Speaker 6 (22:39):
And the lawyers argued that, hey, he had a problem
and addiction to gambling, which is what this was. And
the real reason that this is what the prosecution talked
about in the defense, Like, no, he had an addiction
to fame because he liked being chief Sahulic, you need
to spend money like the travels. The Chiefs aren't spending
money to have him travel. He's a super fan. You

(23:02):
have to spend your own money to go to functions
and travel and go to games and all this stuff.
So that's what it was. It was said, Hey, you know,
this is what it was. He was addicted to the
fame he had for the NFL, and there is no
worse head like you can have. Then I rob banks
over a course of a few years, eleven times because
I love football.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
Like that's like, that's the worst headline, the worst optic
you could possibly have out there. I love football, So
I went out and I robbed a whole bunch of banks.
We also know the fame that I got along with it.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
You know, on above board betting, there's gonna be reportedly
upwards of thirty five billion dollars bet, not to mention
the back alley stuff that still goes on offshore, et cetera,
but eight hundred thy eleven banks and Credit Union. I mean,
this is just being a master criminal and using football
as a front, just like he did the casinos to

(23:52):
launder the money. Right, That's all it is. It's it's
a nice excuse to try to say, oh, he had,
you know, an illness and he just loved his football.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
So no, no, he was a criminal and this was
his end game period.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
This was how he wanted to continue to Hey, I
can do this, and I got an idea, and so
he did. They did eleven times.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
Figure out because generally you don't hear a lot about
bank robbers. You're about thefts and smashing grabs and any
other business in America. Just watched the local news wherever
you may be. The judge Howard Sachs in the US
District Court also ordered him to pay five hundred and
thirty two thousand dollars in restitution forfeit the proceeds of

(24:37):
his crime that included an autograph painting of Patrick Mahomes
that he had purchased that auction.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
Any any bit of And I don't want to say,
how do I say this? Okay, yeah, he can sign
an autograph deal right now? No no, no, no, no,
no not that no, no, that's people would buy the cards.
Will you sign my orange jumpsuit and send it to me?

Speaker 7 (24:57):
No?

Speaker 1 (24:58):
No, I mean from you know, you see this a
lot with athletes who make mistakes on social media when
they're young, and they say things are not supposed to
whether it's racial or sexual, or whatever it was, and
then it just sits there and then the minute they
do something really good.

Speaker 6 (25:13):
Bang.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
Here's where this comes up. Right now, we saw that
Josh Hater, Right, Josh Hater was with the first big one. Hey,
all these tweets he had when he was fourteen fifteen
years old. He pitches in the All Star Game and suddenly, hey,
here come the tweets.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
Were talking about the Miller mass story the other exactly right, Miller,
All of a sudden that comes out of no Miller.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
Moss Fin has a big breakthrough game and he's terrific
and us he is great. Here comes problem. He had
to potentially gave his roommate allegedly pink eye by farting
on his pillow in a video obtained by me.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
You got too giddy about that the other day, you
got that.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
Old.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
I just kept thinking of knocked up Jay farted on
my pillow, like we can't leave. I'm sorry. So like
it happens where okay, it comes out of a really
strange and coincidental time. Here's the story of chiefs Aholic
going to prison for seventeen and a half years, and
it's on opening day of when the Chiefs are playing sure,

(26:04):
Like I feel like this was this is the judicial
system saying hey, we want to hold the NFL to
task for this. We want to make sure you understand
this is the NFL Like you could have done it yesterday,
you didn't need to do it today, but you're doing
it hours before not only the opening game of the season,
but when the Chiefs are going to play. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
I think it comes down to as much as they
may be trying to send a message, I think more
people would fall in line with what I'm saying. The
guy who was a jerk, okay that at one point
they actually arrested him and he took off his ankle
bracelet and went and found more banks to run.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
He cut off his ankle bracelet. I'm gonna go out
and do it.

Speaker 4 (26:43):
Not like that woman that was on Dan Nick is
gonna be on the new season and dancing with the
stars doing her publicity photos with the ankle bracelet on.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
Someone's good. You know, Hollywood's gonna make a movie out
of this. Can find a way. If they can make
a movie out of the Joker, we can make a movie.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
Out You could do No, this is easy. You don't
have to put much of a budget into this at all.
You can get Blue Mouse or one of those to
get after it. The twenty four Sure, well whatever, I mean,
it's a minimal investment and just the morbid curiosity of it.
I mean, like the Winnie the Pooh movies and whatever else,
it'll make money.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
What if we have Winnie the Pooh killing people? Like like,
what do you mean? Like really? Yeah, I went into
the public domain, Like he hits he drowns them in honey, Yeah,
what if we have that? What if he does that?

Speaker 3 (27:24):
He doesn't look like the round the poo?

Speaker 1 (27:28):
What if he kills people with a woozl? What if
he does that?

Speaker 3 (27:32):
If you actually use.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
It's a woozl? Oh I got But you know what
made me? This made me think of And I hadn't
thought about this book in a lot because you know,
I read all the time. That's what Jason read. Yes,
I read all the time. I read books.

Speaker 4 (27:43):
The brain doesn't stop, like, I think that's one one
thing you and I share, Like I don't sleep because
there's always the what can I be doing with my time?
Like I'm just wrestless and you you want to consume
information stories you love the I don't want to say
the fantasy world of it, but it's the all right,
let's put yourself in as the protagonist.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
You know. It's why you get all those Tom Cruise
movies on DVD.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
And it's really because this happened a few a few
weeks ago. Whenever we meet new people, and one of
the things we alway talking talk about TV shows whatever.
You hang out TV shows, you're streaming, books, you're reading.
And my wife always says, oh, no, you want books.
Talk to Jason. No one reads as much as him.
And everybody looks at me and he goes really, And I'm like,
what do you mean? Really like they figure sports guy
on there, I have no rote and I have nothing

(28:31):
else other than sports, sports sports sports. I go, yeah,
what do you want to know? Yes? I read that, Yes,
I read that, Yes I read that. I like this.
I didn't like this. I read that. I read that.
So I'm like, why does it seem like do it?
I don't come across with are you doing? You know,
read a book? I read a book since eighth Great,
you know what it was? I think it was as
a cliff Notes version of maybe it was of else

(28:53):
in Wonderland. And that's what I did. Couldn't read the
whole thing, didn't like the t party, none of it. Like,
I don't know why people are surprised. I really ready.
But then I talked about this. Oh what do you recommend?

Speaker 2 (29:02):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (29:02):
Now you want me to recommend a book for you?
How about shut the hell up? Read that book, and
now about you can read the next book the sequel.
It says, don't call me a game because you didn't
think I was smart enough the first time. Yeah, too much?

Speaker 3 (29:14):
But no, no, no, I know that drill. I know that drill.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
I used to have regular poker games and they'd be like, oh,
what do you do? It's like, oh, I do sports
talk radio. Oh and then we start talking and I
respond to like, wait, what.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Why are you asking him something that doesn't have to
do with sports. Just ask harmon Sports, responded sports. One
of the guys at the table started laughing. He goes,
you know he went to business, Yeah, but he works
in sports. Anybody can know things about business, but margin invoice.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
I know these but the guys that were treating me
like a jackass sudden lys like, oh really just like you, Hey,
mister Helper's supposed to be dragging my knuckles or something
and scratching myself.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
But I do want to say because this story reminds me,
and this is in the top five sports books I've
ever read because it was. It blew me away when
I read it, and I still think about it now
because it's very similar, and I think Johnny Depp at
one point was scheduled to be in the movie about this.
It's called The Ballad of the Whisky Robber, and the
book came out. It's about twenty years ago and it's
about this guy who was the backup goalie in hockey

(30:16):
on the best hockey team for Budapest or budapestest. The
black widow says Budapest. She says Budapest, Budapest. So I
want to talk like Carlo joeanns Strauss and Jeth Thron
Toll had a song. It was a hot night in Budapest, Budapest,
and so he was the goalie on the Budapest national team.
Like he was. He was the backup and he also
robbed banks. And it took them forever to catch him

(30:39):
because the police were so inept they couldn't believe was him,
and they called him the whiskey robber because people would
see him drinking whiskey in a bar and then he
would go rob the bank like just on a whim,
like he didn't have a plan. He did have plans.
He didn't go in. He decided to walk in and try.
And these are banks all over Budapest and Hungary and
he robbed. They did it for a while and he
still played. So he's playing on the team and he's

(31:00):
robbing begs. This is unbelievable. And and the story how
they couldn't catch him, like this is not real. This
is like a book that you would think, hey, this
had to take place like in the early nineteen hundreds,
like the dawn of a New America, where you know
anybody could be a police officer, and no, no, this
is the nineteen nineties, like this is this is just
not too long ago, phenomenal book. You're gonna go, I
can't believe this happened. I'll have to go read that.

Speaker 4 (31:22):
I mean I did see the catcher was a spy bird.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
Yep, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
There you go. Pau versus gamblers, just really quick.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
Paul Rudd, who if you see in the game tonight
no longer you're gonna say, boy, Paul Rudd doesn't age.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
No, no, you know what, he had a rough off season.
He must have really partied with the second title. A
Man three didn't do very well, so I think they
might age him.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
I mean they did kill him in Time Dead spoiler.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
Yeah, but if you're dying in Deadpool, it doesn't.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
But if you haven't seen it at this but don't
you know when it's made like two billion dollars but
didn't get dying in.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Dead But it's not like trap where now it's streaming
and you can see it. I'm not to find out
what's trending in the wide world. Track from Special Delivery
Steve to saygare ESD what do you got?

Speaker 8 (32:06):
And a quote from Jason Smith the reader there you go.

Speaker 7 (32:09):
Say everybody, I'm slat and I want to spare you go.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
That was that was what I got out of this segment.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
Well, I mean it's all you gotta have a takeaway
in every segment there it is.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Thank you, Michael, Thank you day from Kansas City.

Speaker 8 (32:26):
The Chiefs are leading the NFL season opener twenty to
ten over the Baltimore Ravens. Isaiah Pachecko just now with
a one yard touchdown run in the first half. Rookie
Xavier Worthy with a twenty one yard TD run. Leading
receiver by far for the Chiefs. Rashi Rice with five
catches for eighty yards. Tops on the ground for the
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson eight carries sixty three yards, but

(32:49):
despite the time of possession advantage for Baltimore, Kansas City
has the lead twenty to ten over the Ravens about
eleven and a half minutes to go third quarter. Now,
they did art late for this game. It was about
twenty five minutes later than the scheduled kickoff due to
pregame thunderstorms. The forecast is that the rains don't return
until right after this game ends. Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson

(33:12):
was limited in practice with calf tightness. Forty nine Ers
running back Christian McCaffrey was limited with a calf injury.
Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts practice fully after being limited
yesterday with a hamstring injury. Browns tackle Jedrick Wills did
not practice due to a knee injury. The first Fox
TV game with Tom Brady in the booth is Cleveland
hosting Dallas on Sunday, at the US Open Women's Semifinals tonight.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
In New York.

Speaker 8 (33:36):
Jessica Bagoula dropped the first set six to one, but
It's just won the second set six ' four over
Carolina Mahovid. They go to a third and final set. Earlier,
number two seed Arena Sablenca swept Emma Navarro. The men's
semis are tomorrow. Just two WNBA games. Washington leads at
Phoenix thirty six to twenty in the second quarter. New
York at home beats Seattle seventy seven to seventy to

(33:59):
Major League base The late game has the Padres leading
three to nothing over Detroit in the bottom of the eighth.
Colorado a winner at Atlanta three to one. The Mets
have won seven.

Speaker 6 (34:09):
In a row.

Speaker 8 (34:10):
They're now tied with Atlanta for the final NL wildcard spot.
Philadelphia won its fifth straight game, five to two at Miami.
Victories for Texas, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco today, which got
a run in the bottom of the ninth to edge
Arizona three to two. By the way, the Dodgers are off,
they're currently leading the Padres by four and a half
games in the NLS. Dodgers will host Cleveland tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (34:33):

twenty to ten lead for the Chiefs and one of

(34:54):
the big stories coming out of this game. You hear
the phrase boot and rally a lot, well, actually applies
to something that just happened.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
Oh, let's go in this game.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
Boot and Rally coming out next. Fox.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon Live from Thetirack dot Com Studios. Eight
and a half to go in the third quarter, Chiefs
on top of the Ravens twenty to ten. Really rough
possession for the Ravens. There, Lamar Jackson tries to go deep,
can't connect. We're going to talk about the way about

(35:43):
the Ravens wide receivers at some point, because wow, wow.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
It's Zayflowers and well Mark Andrews caught a pass out
he did. He did show graduation from Warren Sharp the
first half. Two of the first eighteen passes thrown by
Lamar Jackson in the first half traveled more than four
yards in the air. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean down field.

(36:10):
I feel bad for me. They were like twenty yard passes,
but they were to the sideline because Lamar.

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Is playing a great game and I feel like he's
he's being let down by the rest of his office.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
I mean, that deep ball that he threw was a
great pass breakup from Watson downfield right, got the hand
in at the last second, so that one. But otherwise
you're a step slow and a step behind the timing.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Not there. Meanwhile, let's talk about someone who has been there. Yeah,
and this falls under the definition of boot and rally,
I mean a real definition of booton rally. So their
reports that Isaiah Pacheco came off the field in the
last possession for the Chiefs and threw up boisterously like

(36:51):
not just one of those out of side, like a
little project. Really let really had to let it go. Okay, well,
maybe you need to sit for a little bit. A
couple of plays later, here's Isaiah Pachecko, but.

Speaker 7 (37:04):
Checko gets a plucked follow Sny Parker near the line,
hit by Harrison. It's a touchdown, but Checko grinding, carving
and getting his way into the end zone for six
Kansas with their second rushing touchdown.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
Tonight to take a nineteen to ten lead. Early in
the third quarter, Kevin Harlan Westwood Radio Network on the call,
boot and rally, throw it doesn't matter, give me the football.
I'm ready to go. I am ready to go.

Speaker 4 (37:31):
Now there's the sound of a new year right there.
When I first heard Kevin Harlan, I was on my
way in here. The delay of game because of weather helped.
I didn't miss much of the broadcast television side. But
you hear the voice of Harlan on radio, and you know,
you get like that little tear like.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
We're back, we're back.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
But for Checko, I have to ask the question.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
Normally we get like some of the violent throwing up,
don't you have to usually go to the tent and
make sure you're checked.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
One of this.

Speaker 4 (37:58):
Symptom design concussions now, so I'm not saying that I
saw anything that would have been obvious. And and obviously
a couple of tough runs up the gut and you know,
thrown violently to the ground and under a thousand pounds
of humanity might might be enough to do it. But
you know, all the hey, you went to the ground

(38:19):
and threw up all over the place, and they got
right back like hopefully it was in you know, he
had some bad fish or something.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
I don't know, but at halftime he had what are
you having there? Oh, it's tripe. It's fantastically it is
like ninety degrees. It's not one hundred and ten like
it is when we came into the studio today. We
went to Red Lobster at shrimp Fest, so we got
a whole bunch before it closed down. Maybe something I
don't know, I'm just.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
Not dead yet. It might still be a sponsor. What
are you doing, jerks?

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Just too much fishing time? Oh man, that was a
bad idea that was or whatever it.

Speaker 4 (38:53):
Was like something just didn't sit right. Maybe he had
some some gatorade or some other drinkin that that didn't
sit well.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
I don't know that idea bad and there is and
and look, something like this always kind of has a
near and dear place to my heart because I always
ill every time I hear it. Story like hey, someone
goes off the field and they throw up, and they
go back on, they score a touchdown, they throw a
touchdown paths It's like wow, And I think about it
because I kind of had my own experience with that once. Okay, well,
I mean you throw up over all over yourself. No, no, no,

(39:23):
I get to I got to the point where my
mid twenties, I'm like, I'm not throwing up anymore. No,
you went, you decided you needed to drink. No, I'm
not throwing up. I'm not doing it. I'm not throwing up.

Speaker 8 (39:33):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
I went out on a date with a girl I
was dating, and we dated for a long time. Actually
this is like maybe overly date in a couple of months.
And we went out somewhere and I don't know what
happened because it wasn't like I drank too much or
I ate too much, but we were on a date
and we were having you know, having drinks, having dinner
and everything, and I get up. I said, I'll go
to the bathroom and I go and I just throw
up all over. Did she ask you about the future?

(39:56):
You know where this was. I just go in and
I get sick and I'm going, oh my, And of course,
guys in the bathroom, are you okay? Do you to
ride home?

Speaker 7 (40:03):
Like?

Speaker 1 (40:03):
No, I'm fine. I don't know what's going on. I'm
just feeling good. So I go out and I'm like,
what do I do? And I was asking strangers for
gum to you have a piece of gum? You have gum?
So I come back and I sit down and and
uh my girlfriends goes, She goes always, I said, yeah, sorry,
I was gone too long and ago and I'm choosing
are you chewing gum? I go, yeah, yeah, I just did.
I said, I just I'm having a lot of soda

(40:24):
and stuff. She says, oh, okay, okay, And then of course,
and I'm paranoid the rest of the night, and the
rest of the night I don't kiss her good night,
and I just say good night and I give her
a hug. And the next day we talk on the
phone and she goes, you know, you didn't I said,
is anything wrong? I go, no, what's wrong? She goes,
you didn' kiss me good night last night, and I'm like,
this is the moment for me to either own up
to what happened or just continue on, And instead I

(40:47):
decided to not tell the truth because I didn't want
to admit to that.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
Did you break up?

Speaker 1 (40:51):
I just like the time I said, you know, I
didn't tell you I bit my tongue last night, and
it was and it was hurting. I told you I
didn't want to say that, but it wasn't. It wasn't
since she goes, oh, okay, no, I said, everything's fine,
Everything's fine. So I lived with that until now. Is
the first time ever told this story. I had the
bubble guts and I had a lot of problems. I
don't know why I was in the bathroom, a lot

(41:12):
of I'm sorry, but you know I bit my tongue
and outsides of what happened.

Speaker 7 (41:16):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (41:16):
Coming up next, boy, we have a big injury story
to get to in the NFL. Keep it right here,
