Welcome inside. What is just an absolutely unbelievably glorious night.
That's my guy. I knew it would push you over.
Let's go The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live

Ti rack dot com is away tire buying.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Should be lot of good tonight. I mean it would
be one of those heads slapping kind of things.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Man. I mean, I can't believe that I'm watching this game.
The Astros get incredibly screwed by the umpires twice in
two innings and I felt bad for them. I mean, yes,
because the Padres losing helps the Mets, but still I
felt bad for them because Josel two ve thousand ball
off his foot, the umpire doesn't give it to him,
and he winds up grounding out on that play and

(01:27):
a run scoring chance late innings goes by the board.
Al Twove takes his sock off to show the umpire's barefoot.
Umpire throws him out. Tenth inning, with runners at first
and third, Jerkson Profar gets a fastball from ners up
and in. He backs away from it. Umpire sends him
down to first on a hit by pitch. Even Profar

(01:47):
is saying he didn't get hit, they go back and
look at it and they say, yeah, go down to
first base, you got hit. He's not even close to
getting hit. The Astros Dugout is fuming, wondering what the
hell is going on.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
I want to do some lip reading on the show live.
You told me I would have gotten fired on that
code of conduct.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
I mean, I don't understand how you send problem. This
is makes for retort nights that an umpire and replay
review staff could potentially have. This is just this is
just abysmal umpiring on so many levels. But I want
to go back.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
I'm gonna go back into my MLB account and I'm
gonna clip off that last the walkoff for the looks
that the umpires were getting from both teams as they
left the field, like like, you guys, you needed a
security escort walking you off this field because I think
we watched the pitch calls behind home plate. You saw

(02:41):
the pitch clock violation and some of the stuff not
getting reset, and then the hit by pitch situations that
mark the ninth and tenth innings just absolutely absurd, And
so as they're walking off, they're getting it from both sides.
The Astro is obviously excited. They escaped with a win
position perly, ground ball back up the middle, a little

(03:02):
force play to the shortstop and the celebration begins. But everybody,
this is one of those like end of a Giant
wrestling match on a pay per view, where everybody's booing
because as much as you know, hey, it's a win,
you know in this case it's for the Astros in
San Diego. It's one of those what the hell did.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
We just watch? I really I can't believe I felt
bad for the Astros. Boy, they got screwed by the
Umps there. What's wrong with me? What's well?

Speaker 2 (03:26):
I mean time heals all wounds, they say, I mean
most just I just want to see stuff get right,
get called right.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
And they and they still profer it. No, I didn't
get hit, Yeah, on both of them and got them
both wrong. Yes, you got hit. No, I think I
in New York want to go to bed. I didn't
really get hit. I didn't really get it. No, you
did go down all right, I'll go down here. It's
almost one o'clock in the morning. Finish the damn game.
And I don't know what I felt bad for the Astros.
I'm a lunatic.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Yeah, the profar look back to the plate like you could.
That's mimable, like what oh sure, oh sure, unbelievable, uh me,
while we got big stuff out of the NFL coming
your way over the next forty minutes here on the show,
and the latest salvo has been fired in Justin Fields
Russell Wilson, who will be the quarterback for the Steelers

(04:13):
this week. Justin Fields plays well enough the first two weeks,
not getting a ton of snaps in the preseason. Obviously,
plays well enough. Steelers are two and oh, but Russell
Wilson trying to work his way back from injury. Who's
gonna be the quarterback this week? Well, you're gonna listen
to Mike Tomlin tell you who's gonna be the quarterback,
and then I'll tell you exactly how the rest of

(04:34):
this derby is going to play out.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Well, I mean he look he's looking for a big
win here in week two. No, no ty Shirt just
called up Jason's Mike Tomlin impression. Yeah, no, I know
it was my mind from like nine years ago. Dated.
It's just in the spect It's still in the system though.
Yeah when when I when I mean find your wins man?
When I don't think Lonzo's home run from tonight is

(05:01):
still in the system. I think we've deleted that entirely.
Very well, here's Mike a long time, the game finished
four hours ago. Here's Mike Tomlin on the quarterback situation. Sorry,
I had three of them. That was the second one,
and what's behind door number three? Let's say, all right,
do we do we actually get Mike Tomalin or.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Now we had three of them, so this has to
be this has to be okay, so this is potentially
about hot dog guns Mike Tomlin.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
As I sit here today, Russ is not scheduled to
be a full participant in practice, and so we're ready
in a plan that features Justin and his readiness. We'll
follow Russ throughout the week, and if his participation gets
to a level in participation and quality where we should
consider him, we'll we'll delve into that at that time,

(05:49):
And obviously when that happens is a component of the consideration.
But as I sit here today, he is not scheduled
to be a full participant tomorrow in practice, and so
we're ready in ourselves around Justin and we'll stay in
that mandset until something else happens. Hypotheticals is a waste
of our time.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
As was most of that statement.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
That's a lot of tap dancing to get to. Hypotheticals
are a waste to tell Justin Field is our guy.
If Russell Wilson gets cleared is ready to play, we'll
cross that bridge when we come to it. But now
I'm going to tell you exactly how this long soap
opera that we've talked about almost every other day for
the last five months is going to play out, And
it's very simple.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Remember that the Steelers want to avoid controversy. They also
want to take care of Russell Wilson, right, They've been
trying to take care of him since they got him,
making excuses for him. They also want to avoid controversy
that they know they might need him, right right, Yeah,
but there is no way in hell Russell Wilson deems
himself healthy and is coming back while the Steelers are

(06:55):
winning and Justin Field is playing well enough, right, this
is how this plays out. As long as Justin Fields
is playing good enough and the Steelers are winning, and
he is playing good enough, you like to be a
little bit more dynamic. But they're moving the football, he's
running the football, okay, and they're winning games.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
And they've had a couple of wiped off the penalty
where you can see, okay, the timing between he and
Pickens and the downfield game, they're not gonna be able
to go to that well a ton. I mean, this
isn't Kyler Murray winging it around like he did so
beautifully against the Rams. But Field is gonna be able
to take his shots. That timing's coming in Arthur Smith's offense.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
So as long as he's playing okay and they're winning,
Russell Wilson is not going to be eligible doing enough
to play because they're not gonna have this controversy of
Russ saying I'm ready to go, and Mike Tomlin suddenly
is like, great, now gonna deal with the quarterback situation
because I'm gonna stay with Justin while we're winning. And
now Russ is upset.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Well, if Russ says anything, he's getting traded to Carolina,
So you better shut up.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Hey, what do you know about David Tepper? So what's
gonna happen? Is this all this is going on while
the Steelers are playing good, and while Justin field is
playing okay, Russell Wilson's gonna continue to work his way back.
He'll get there at some point. Now, eventually you're gonna
get to week seven, week eight. But if the Steelers
are playing well and Justin's a guy, there's not a
lot you can do. But for the next few weeks,

(08:16):
that's how this is gonna go. And miraculously, if Justin
Fields has enough of a down tick, and I don't
think it means it's a one game thing, it might
be a couple of game thing for Fields. But if
he has enough of a downtick where he doesn't play
well for a couple of weeks, then magically, Russell Wilson
will be cleared and ready to go and play quarterback.

(08:36):
That's how that's going to go, right, So Wilson's gonna
be kept away from being quote cleared to play until
he's ready to start. He's not gonna come back as
a backup as long as Mike Tomlin can help it.
That's how this is gonna play out. Steelers playing well,
Justin Field is playing okay, Russ is working his way back,
not doing enough in practice yet. All this they're gonna

(08:57):
hit us with misdirection. But the minute Justin Fields looks
like he's not playing well enough and they're sacrificing play
on the field wins, Russell Wilson magically is gonna be ready.
I feel great this week. I'm ready to come back
and play, and I'm getting back in the lineup. That's
how this goes. He will not be deemed healthy enough
to play as long as they're winning and Justin Field

(09:18):
is playing okay.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Hell, you massage it as you need to, right and obviously,
when you look at where Russell Wilson is the injury.
And look, I only pretend to play a doctor here
on the radio, but you can't tell me that he's
not ready. At seventy five percent, eighty percent whatever, he
would be right. Not often do you have the luxury
of saying, you know what, wait it out a little bit.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Here. You're also making sure you don't like controversy.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Look what happened all those guys you put up with
him until you didn't have to anymore. The excitement of
those Steelers squads were great until AB eighty four, lev Bell, Roethlisberger,
I'm gonna retire.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
I'm not gonna retire.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
I'm Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers and how I'm handling
this down the back end into my career, all of
that stuff. Tom he got through that. He's not going
through that again. No, And look, they knew they had
a unique situation. Denver takes up all the cash so
Russell can come over, and then Justin Fields is acquired
for a bucket of balls, and because of the freak

(10:16):
sled injury. Look, if he could have been cleared in
week one, I'm fully convinced if he was at eighty
percent of ahold one. Yeah, Russell Wilson would have been
the quarterback. Yeah, I don't think he would help enough
for week one. Right, So, now that you've won two
in a row, your defense is playing really well. You
can talk about competition of who you're playing. You can
only play who's on the schedule. And so long as TJ.
Watt and that front is healthy, you're gonna be menaces.

(10:38):
And Boswell's got a great leg. He's a guy that's
going to be able to Uh. If you move the ball,
don't turn it over, and get yourself towards the you know,
thirty five yard line, you're gonna have successful possessions three
at a time. And that's all it takes. With the
defense holding up as they do for Justin fields. If
he takes care of the football, he gets to run.
And you're looking at this the schedule coming up. You've

(11:01):
got a game this week against the Chargers. Okay, there's
still some questions about the Chargers overall in terms of
what they can do offensively.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
JK. Dobbins has been one hell of a find. Right.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
The explosiveness that he had when the Ravens drafted him
before all the injuries. That's back, and you've got the
powerhouses on the offensive line. So that's fun to watch.
Now we have strength on the strength. Let's get after it.
Then you've got a road trip against the Colts. All right,
Richardson gives you some flash plays, but overall you can
go and contain him. Right, you're gonna be able to

(11:32):
get after him and force him into mistakes. Cowboys, we
don't know what they are. After we do great win
over a team that we thought was gonna be pretty good,
held back a bit by the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
But again, a lot of field goals.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
It's not like Dak Prescott went and through for three
thirty five and four touchdowns. They settled for a lot
of super toe field goals of fifty plus yards.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
So you got that. Then you've got the Raiders on
the road, their game, and then a big showdown against
the Jets, a bunch of waitable games. Look, you can
decide whether they beat the Jets or not, but either
way they could have a pretty good run going into
mid October. I just want to say this all right,
because this is my bigger part about about the Steelers, Right,

(12:14):
this is how it's gonna go, right, justin field, Russell
Wilson first place. Can you can you be a little
more interesting? You're so incredible? Bears are way more The
Steelers are so boring. The Bears are interesting. Now we
got the Bears are. The Bears on the field are interesting,
They're fun. What's Caleb William's gonna do? Is he gonna

(12:36):
get killed by one of these one of these blitzers? No,
the pers the Steelers are so they're averaging a half
a touchdown a week. They are so bored. There's nothing
exciting about them. It's hard to get motivated. This talking
about fields or Wilson is more exciting than watching the
Steelers on the field because it's just boring. They don't
they don't throw the ball, they don't really run the

(12:57):
ball that great. They play just enough defense. They're so boring.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Still in the learning curve through two weeks. By the way,
the Bears thing, I was more talking about prop bets
of who gets to hit Caleb Williams first. I'm not
looking for anybody to get hurt because we have prop
bets for first touchdowns, we have prop bets for you know,
all these other things.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
Who's the player lining up closest to Caleb Williams on
the defense. I'm gonna take him first. Who gets to
go after the right tax. But the Steelers are so boring.
There's it's not they're not even fun. The games aren't
fun to watch. The games aren't fun to break down.
Like they're just boring. They're so tough. That's the toughest
watch in the NFL. And this is a league that
has the Carolina Panthers. This is a tough watch.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Thirty five and a half the over under for this
week's game against the Chargers and Jim Harboss this is this.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
This is gonna be unwatchable. It's gonna be absolutely unwatchable.
Field goal kicking contest now unwatchable, a newly minted, highly
paid dicker, the kicker going up. At least when they
had Roethlisberger, they threw the football a lot, and you
had Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown characters.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
He didn't know what they were gonna say next, Mike
Wall was telling you how great fast he was.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Now it's they're just so boring. Like I'm like, I'm
not excited to watch Najie Harris or Jalen Warren.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Tomlin gave us that gem about the uh the petty ball.
Yeah that it was man kind of man.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
It got out. The more interesting things about the Steelers
are always off the field because they're so boring on it.
They're so bored. There's such a tough Arthur Smith's gonna revolutionize. Hey,
you know we're doing We're gonna We're gonna put the
other team to sleep. And that's our big strategy this year.
Oh great, hey, if you could pull that off for
seventeen weeks. Look, man, win is a win winning ugly. Sure,

(14:39):
you can't get the guys fighting up. We just to say, man,
but I told you just lost sixteen to thirteen. I
was tough. Man. Oh we just lost twelve to eight.
Well that was a tough one. I told you, man.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
They are America's team. They they put their hard hats on,
they go to work. No, maybe you don't love your
job or how the aesthetics of it, but you it's
an important job and a function for Americ excitement.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
We like points, we want controversy, we get none of that. Yeah, yeah,
but they are America's team. We like that, but we
identify with their reality. It may be a slog but
our goal is to go one and oh.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Today, we lay our head down at night and then
we get up and we try to do it again.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Man, I think Steelers fans are having fun. They're two
and no, but I think they're having fun. What do
you think of the team? Yeah? Tough man, I don't know.
I took a big nap. I missed most of the
game on Sunday, but I woke up and it was
a final score that I liked, so I feel good.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
But you're refreshed from that nap and you found out
that they won and you're ready to go dominate the
rest of your day.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
A good numbing And where are my Steelers gear? With pride?
And I didn't have to watch the game? Ah, that's great.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Now you have the whole night ahead of you. Because
if they played an early window, it's only four to fifteen.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
YouTube should say, hey, listen to everybody who bought this,
We're gonna give you Steelers games for free because it's
really a tough watch.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
I always put them on my grid because I want
to see I mean, obviously there's the Justin Fields Bears connection,
but it's always I want to watch how Townland responds
to still it's highly entertaining, especially if you don't have
the sound on there for that game.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
More entertaining any everything again, Off the field with the Steelers, Yeah,
on the field awful. It's doesn't matter to no, it's
not fun. It doesn't matter. Hey man, you want your
style points and I just want ws like the bear
sucked on Sunday night. There were so many bad things
in that game against Houston, but if they've been able

(16:21):
to pull off that would I would have been peacocky
all over the place. But it was still fun even
though the Steelers game is not fun. You gotta be
able to score more than half a touchdown a week.
That's gotta You need more than that. I'm sorry? Is
that now? And the prop that you're offering over under
half a touchdown over under on touchdowns one half which

(16:42):
player the entire team for the rest of the month,
that's what it is. You have to for the rest
of the month. Exit, exit swollen dome, so full of hate.
You got everything you wanted in your baseball scoring board.
If you parlayed that.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
You'd be doing a huge hewel thing and laying on
a bet of money like you're in break.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Bad I want the Mets to win, everybody else to lose. Great,
I'm telling It's just I wish they would be more interesting,
any more fun you want?

Speaker 2 (17:07):
We wanted somebody to start spouting off some conspiracy theories.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
Would that help you? Maybe maybe want something like Jalen
Mooren saying this is why I don't get the ball,
you know, even though I'm a better player than Najie Harris's.
Oh you went straight to that.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
I'm just always want something like superfluous and outside the
locker room.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Here's what Roethlisberger is saying on his podcast. You haven't
had any of that yet? He is he still doing it?

Speaker 3 (17:34):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Yeah, yeah, no he was. He had some big stuff
to say this week too. About that again off the field,
more interesting on the field? Bing uh? Coming up next? Hey,
how about if we go from that to a big
hot take about Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. That's next
right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio. Hey, hiring

Speaker 1 (19:32):
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith's Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon live from the tirade tyreck dot Com studios.
How about a nice, big fat Patrick Mahomes Kansidy Chiefs
hot take? Oh please, let's go. Uh, whoa, whoa? What

(19:54):
it's nuts? Hey? If you hate the Chiefs, maybe this
does it? Okay? Sure?

Speaker 4 (19:59):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
I've been Alex ty Shirt making his triumphant return to
the show after the last eleven days off. I think
came back and a half. Yeah, I came back for
a day and then i'd been off the last twelve days.
I was on a darkness retreat. Okay, all right, very good.
You know, I could see you doing one of those
thank you. I could see you doing a darkness riek.
It was fun. Yeah, I guess I could see really
dark as George Harrison sang, though beware of darkness, like

(20:21):
I can see and I can see. How long did
you do it, four tycher? Like a day or two? No,
I did it for like three weeks. It was good
for a month. I was like being in the hole
and it took eight days or my eyes to open again. No,
it's it was fantastic. I became a bold person. I
still can't see color. That said. Look, it's the first
half of pleasant film. It's my it's my own black
and white movie.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
I'm seeing in front of a Now that's a different
type of darkness.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
You want a good story, I used to love. No, No,
that's a good place of like, yeah, what's our story?
What's our story music? You have my story music to shirt.
I just got back. Come on my story music. I
get my story music. When I was growing up in
my room. All right, we're still clear, all right? When uh,
when I was growing up this is in the late eighties,
in my room. I had a black and white TV

(21:11):
and it was I loved it because I could watch
it and whenever my mom or grandmother whoever it was,
or my aunt wanted to check on me to make
sure I was sleeping, Like, I could turn the volume
all the way down and turn the and turn the
uh the color all the way to black. Oh yeah,

(21:32):
and and it looks like it felt like it was off.
Got to hear those footsteps, and it was because because
if I turned it, you'd hear me turn the button
off those old TVs, so it was like, you're still
watching TV. It's ten o'clock at night, go to bed,
whatever it is. But I could take that. I could
turn the volume all the way down and turn the

(21:53):
screen all the way down so it's black. And they
would come and hear at the foot of the steps
whatever it was, or go, oh no, he's not watching TV.
I'm like, yeah, to turn moonlighting back on, turn the
value just a little bit, turn the TV upside and
the singing was the best I could do that. Look
at that, Wow, that was I missed that TV. It's
a fun way.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
He's taking you back to I like the childhood and
I like this black and white televisions.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
Sure, it's been a long long time. It has been. Uh,
here's your hot take for the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes and
the Chiefs have problems. They won't be dancing like that.
They have problems and they are on display and you
can ignore them at your own peril. Last week we
talked about the Chiefs and said, look, Mahomes is not
the same quarterback. Whether you want to blame the offensive

(22:41):
game plan, whether you want to blame the lacks around him,
he's not the same guy. Sure you can blame Matt
Naggie all you want, blame everyone, Why not Todd Haley, everybody,
blame everybody, Paul Hackett, everybody. I blame everyone, all former
Chiefs O seas. But Mahomes has not been the same
fantasy wise. He's not even an elite fantasy quarterback. And

(23:04):
we had that conversation. But Mahomes is not, and hasn't
been for all of last year and so far this year,
a quarterback that can fill up the scoreboard. And nothing
shows you this more as to how as to how
weird and bad a place the Chiefs offense is than
their reaction and how they beat the Bengals on Sunday. Okay,

(23:29):
they on the final drive of the game, they get
the big pass interference. Play right, the big pass interference,
and it was past interference. You can argue all you want,
but it was passingterference. Admit you don't like the Chiefs
and move on. So now they have the ball at
the Bengals thirty six yard line. So it's a fifty
three yard field goal with thirty six seconds left. However,
the Chiefs have all three timeouts and you have Patrick

(23:51):
Mahomes right, so okay, you're gonna try to get closer
because you don't want to kick a fifty yard field goal.
Mahomes throws one incomplete pass and the next two plays
the Chiefs run for a total of four yards. Yeah,
they run Steel twice, run Carson Steele, who has a
fumbling problem, and he has two plays. He runs for

(24:14):
a yard to one play, two yards on another play,
and then you trot Butcker out there for a fifty
one yard field goal. Now the Chiefs can cover this
up by saying we have supreme confidence in Harrison Butker,
and yes he's one of the best field goal kickers
in the league, and yes you can absolutely say that
we have confidence, but just like Mahomes and Kelsey kind
of cover up all the image problems that the Chiefs have.

(24:36):
You see all the the reviews that are done at
the end of the year when the teams say this
is the worst team that you know, they don't have childcare,
it costs money to buy food in the cafeteria, and
the Chiefs always do horribly at those Where are the
dollars on the field right? Where is that dollar I'm
paying for soda? But because Mahomes has a great image,

(24:57):
Travis Kelcey has a great image. He's dating Taylor Swift.
You think the Chiefs are this great team and they're not.
But because of this, hey, we were able to win
this game. We trust our field goal kicker. You decided
to take the ball out of Patrick Mahomes's hands on
two plays where every other team in the NFL is
going to try to get closer. You'll kick a fifty

(25:17):
one yard field goal if you have to, but you're
gonna try to get closer. And it's not like, well,
do we really want Josh Dobbs throwing this pass? We
want Daniel Jones throwing these passes here? Or do you
want to kick with Harrison Pudker. This is Patrick Bleep
and Mahomes. Man, this is the best quarterback in the NFL.
And you can say we're gonna hand the ball off twice.
I mean Mahomes at one of his worst games ever

(25:38):
as a pro and so at two for one hundred
and fifty yards. Yes, a couple of touchdowns, Yes, a
couple of picks, but they are in trouble. This is
no longer your Hey, we're the Chiefs. We're gonna we're
gonna could beat you every week thirty eight to twenty
good luck. This is a Chiefs team that now you're
seeing kind of the end of the dynasty where they're
getting by and being able to make plays because of

(26:01):
that championship medal. Right, they were able to win last
year despite the fact they didn't have a good year
offensively because their defense is really good and they made
more clutch plays. Right, They're well coached that they know
how to win games. Disciplined yet that's kind of where
the Chiefs are right now. But they're a team now
that is that is grinding out wins. And you can
only grind out for so long because teams are gonna

(26:23):
figure out the best way to fight, and we talked
about it last week. Eventually, a team's gonna come with
a great defensive game plan, everybody's gonna copy that, and
the Chiefs are gonna have problems. But nothing shows you
that they have problems offensively, and Patrick Mahomes has problems
more than on the final drive of the game, when
you have first down from the thirty six yard line,
two running plays and you're trotting out your kicker from

(26:44):
fifty one yards. You can dress it up all you
want and say we love butker and all this. The
team was doing it, but you said, we are taking
the ball out of Patrick Mahomes' hands. He has problems.
The Chiefs offense has problems, and that sequence right there
tells you that you can deny it. You can say, Jason,
you're crazy, but I'm telling you nobody does that unless
they don't have confidence in the offense of what Mahomes

(27:04):
can do.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
Now, part of it goes back to a take, you know,
and we discussed last week, and look, it's all the
work in progress through two weeks. The only thing we
can categorically say at this point is that the Panthers
stink and they've descended into chaos, and David Tepper is
playing a fiddle as it burns around, right, and Dave
Canallis decided being one of thirty two was more important

(27:27):
than anything else. I really would like to see video
of David Tepper playing a field dancing in his office,
playing a fidal like that would be pretty That's good.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
We can get ai David Tepper. Yeah, we can do that.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
There's nobody's playing a film now, boy hot out here,
isn't it all right? But part of your take last
week was coming off of the game against the Ravens,
where's the defense that maybe gets a little bit blueprint
y and gives you a little bit of how do
we defend this iteration of the chief squad? And lou
Aniromo is a guy who's performed well in that regard. Now,

(27:57):
the fact that it ran counter because it was week two.
You know, the Bengals don't win in the first couple
of weeks. Zach Taylor now one and eleven in week
one and week two combined Joe Burrow one and nine
in those similar circumstances, but defensively got after it.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
If you look at the performance the performance, performance of
his performance.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Right to this point through two games, you got twelve
catches on fifteen targets.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Rashi Rice had a nice rookie year somehow.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
At this point, nothing's been adjudicated to suspend him for
violating the personal conduct policy. So you want to get
mad about that and the way the wheels of justice
grind have at it, But at this point he's eligible
to play. Second leading target is Isaiah Pacheco. Seven catches,
eight targets, fifty four yards. Now he's got a broken leg.

(28:48):
He's gone Xavier worthy four of seven sixty four yards
and a touchdown. While we remember the jail break. Safety
doesn't get over freebee that he got in week one.
So yeah, it's about learning your targets and running back position. Look,
Pacheco goes down. Now Steele is your guy. You're re
signing Kareem Hunt this. You know, Priest Holmes coming through

(29:10):
that door next, because now they're waiting for Clyde Edwards,
a layer once upon a time, a guy that was
supposed to be the breakthrough star for that squad to
give them balance. That's that's where you can see an
obvious issue in terms of the running back position. But
the rest of it from a timing perspective, and everybody
grinding back into into shape. BacT, you've been running to

(29:31):
the AFC Title Game or the Super Bowl year after year.
Eventually the bodies are weary, and I think they're going
more Patriots style, where it's defense will grind it out
and we'll figure it out down the road and then
we start playing situational football as the games are meaningful
in December and January, because's where you're playing for.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
You're still two and oh for all the warts. Yeah, no, no,
they're still what I'm saying. They have problems, and all
dynasties end, and they end in very specific and a
lot of times they end really fast.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Yeah, and you know a lot of a and vitriol,
and certainly fans turned on you because right now even
the Taylor Swift fans are like, and I've had enough
of the Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
He got issues, they got it, mahomes Haze issues, rita
offensive it. Trust me, the Chiefs have them a guy
with no issues right now, because he's gonna tell us
what's trending in the wide world of sports, Martin White
and up, what do you got.

Speaker 6 (30:18):
For several issues, but none that anybody.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Oh okay, all right, well, I mean you want to
lay them out, We're here for you. Eight seven, seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
Did you bet the Braves and the Diamondbacks and the padre.

Speaker 6 (30:28):
Parlam No I did not, but I have you know
NFL's back. I have found a way to somehow put
money on both the Panthers and the Broncos through two weeks.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
So great stuff. And you're a Michigan man, you put
it on them to win, to.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
Cut well, to cover. But neither of those things have occurred.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
No, And Michigan couldn't even mess the I mean they
beat Arkansas State by ten.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
So that's where we are, and stated that find your wins, Martin.

Speaker 6 (30:57):
Well, the Yankees found to win tonight, and that's where
I'll go. I'll look to my sheet the final wins here.
The Yankees fin win tonight. They beat their Mariners eleven
to two. They are atop the Al East Cleveland a
top to Al Central. The Guardians so lost to the
Twins at four to one. Tigers and the Royals will
squarely in the wildcard mixed Detroit beats Kansas City three
to one in ten. Royals now in a three game

(31:18):
losing streak. Orio's still holding on to the top AL
wildcards spot despite losing to the Giants ten to nothing.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
Blake Snell got.

Speaker 6 (31:27):
The start for San Francisco, twelve strikeouts, one hit over
six innings pitched. The thirty six one hundred and fifteen
White Socks are now thirty six one hundred and sixteen
after they drop to the Angels. On the National League
side of things, the Phillies beat the Brewers five to one.
Sho Heo Tani hit his forty eighth home run, but
the Dodgers lost to the Marlins eleven to nine. LA
started the day three and a half games up on

(31:49):
the Padres and the n West, and the Astros beat
the Padres four to three, so NLS looks the same.
The Rockies beat the Diamondbacks eight to two, and Arizona
loss means the Mets move tied into the second wildcard
spot with Arizona. Braves fall back fall two back out
of the NL wildcard spot final walk house spot as

(32:09):
Atlanta drops six to five to the Reds. Also, the
A's beat the Cubs four to three. The Dolphins are
placing two a tongue of I low on injury reserve.
He'll miss at least the team's next four games between Seahawks, Titans, Patriots,
and Colts. The team officially signed former Ravens quarterback Tyler
Huntley from the practice squad. He's on the active roster.
The corresponding move was releasing wide receiver Robbie Chosen. Kansas

(32:34):
City Chiefs are signing free agent running back Kareem hunt
the Cleveland Browns signing Friedge and running back Royce Freeman,
and the New York Giants have placed kicking Graham Ganot
on injury reserve with a hamstring injury.

Speaker 1 (32:45):
Jason and Mike. Back to y'all, that's the Adam Sandler
something that would have been better if it was done yesterday.
Thanks a bunch chumped up. You want a really good story. Look,
Martin just told us all about the the NL wild
card race tightening up and everything else. So while the
Mets were playing the Nationals side the game, Mets were

(33:05):
up big late and then a big roar goes up
from the crowd because the out of town scoreboard showed
the Reds had finished off beating the Braves. Right, obviously,
the Mets are up over the braze over two games.
So they asked petere Lonzo after the game, Hey, what'd
you think of that? And he said, quote, I didn't
know someone told me that that they were cheering about.
But I thought someone was just getting routy, like chugging
beers or something like that. I mean people do that.

(33:28):
It's a pretty good line. I like that. I just
thought they were getting routy because a guy was chugging beers.
Guy had a little extra beer. I'm just chugging beers
and people are screaming like that. Hey, no cheer like
that when I hit a home run. Yeah, with this
guy chugging beers, hey, everybody goes crowd.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
But I mean between the wave and chugging beers fights,
I mean we have, how many fights do we have
in Major League Baseball? That's the stat I wish we
had from all the in stadium cameras because certainly it
glitters my timeline on a nightly basis. Let's get all
that going.

Two days, Yeah, homo, it is two days till Jets football.
Already Thursday Night Week three, Already Thursday Night Take the
under Thursday Night, Thursday Night football.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
You want to talk about grime, let's go. But speaking
of football, I'm really surprised at the legs that the
Bryce Young story has had over the course of the
past twenty four hours. The Panthers deciding to bench the
former number one overall pick just a couple of years
ago after two games this year, and they're going to
Andy Dalton, and the reaction the last twenty four hours

(35:03):
has been all over the place. The Panthers have failed
Bryce Young. Bryce Young is terrible. Look, both things can
be true, both could be true at the same time. Yeah,
And that Andy Dalton really is inevitable. I mean, he's
showing up in your timeline for your team. It's gonna
be twenty forty five, and people got Handy Doll's number
one quarter let's go sixty four years old, he's still

(35:25):
playing quarterback. Still slinging red rifle is ear inevitable. But
this is this is the the to give you something
a little bit different about the Panthers. I'm not surprised
and I'm not shocked. I know there's a lot of Oh,
you're turning the page on this guy after two games.
He really needs a reset. You watch him play. He

(35:46):
does know where to go with the ball. He's confused,
his body language is awful. Looks like he wants to
be anywhere but on the football field. Benching him. Yeah,
but there's a there was a better way that I
thought of in two minutes to say, how do we
handle this so we don't look like a laughing stock,
so we look like we know what's going on, and

(36:07):
we don't look like the owner is pulling the strings
and telling the new head coach what to do. And
now Dave Canalis, you're wondering, is he even gonna make
it past this year? Like there was such an easy
way to fix this that this is why I would
be a great pr advisor is that canalist comes out
of Sunday night and says, no, Bryce Young is our quarterback,
and then Monday has to say, oh, no, Bryce Young

(36:29):
is not our quarterback. And it's embarrassing because it looks
like you were told that you're not starting out the
code red. Yeah. Yeah, and he's learning what it means
to work for David step.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
And everybody that's saying that, you know, Alys has full
control it. Stop flying to yourself exactly, come on now.
But look, but this was the right way to handle it.
And it was like I said, it's me. This is
why pr advisor talk to me and I could have
helped you in two minutes. Is because this is how
you really have to do it. If you're talking about this, yes,
he's got to sit down, and what you say is this, Hey,

(36:59):
after going over things a night ago, we're gonna give
Bryce a chance to catch his breath. Right, We've put
it in a new offense. He hasn't had a lot
of time with it. He didn't play a lot in
the preseason, probably my fault. But he's gonna sit back,
he's gonna learn. Andy Dalton's gonna come in and play
for a little bit, and then we're gonna get Bryce
back in there at some point as the season goes on. Right,
that's the right way to handle because that's honestly what

(37:21):
you have to do, because you have to know, Hey,
there is no stone unturned.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
Bryce Young stinks. And after this season, we're going in
the draft to get a new quarterback. Whether it's your
Door Sanders or Carson Beck. It's gonna be drafting very high.
You have to make sure you know that Bryce Young
is not you got no, it doesn't look like it
is right now. Of course, it looks like he's he's
completely cooked in Carolina. But with some time to get
more used to the offense, with some time to sit

(37:47):
and watch. We've seen that with quarterbacks before Jared Goff
sat after he played for a while for the Rams,
it turned out to be good for him. So we've
seen that if you handle it that way, and that's
how the Panthers come at it with he needs some
time to sit. People are gonna say, no question, I
understand any Dalton's gonna play. Hey, no question. We got
to put a guy out there that can make plays.
But Bryce is gonna get back in there at some

(38:08):
point in the season, absolutely, because you need to see
him at some point to know that he's not your guy,
and you need to see him over a course of
not two or three games, but five or six games.
So you're looking at mid season, a little bit after
when the season has gotten away from you, and Bryce
Young goes in. Now, if any Dalton catches fire and
suddenly the Panthers are really good, Hey that changes things
and you're going for the playoffs. But what's gonna likely

(38:29):
happen is you're gonna lose a lot of games and
you're gonna look to next year. So Bryce Young gets
back in their week ten, week eleven. That's how this
could have gone. It could have gone so much easier.
And again I would have said, hey, give me ten
thousand dollars. I just saved you all kinds of heartache
right there, ten grand for that three minute bit of advice.
That's how you handle demoting Bryce Young. And instead the

(38:50):
Panthers did it all handhandedly, and it was awkward and
it makes you question everything they have about the organization.
Nobody is happy. Everybody's taken arrows. Instead, this was the
easier way to do it, and they didn't.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
Oh, you have the cooling off period before you walk
in to meet the media, so you know, meeting with
your brain trust. The messaging should have been clear because
again Tepper obviously wants to see the investment they drafted
him first, overall miserable first year. Meanwhile, you're watching CJ.
Stroud and saying what about that, not recognizing, of course
the gap in terms of organizational stability and growth and

(39:27):
structure and planning versus what the Panthers have been, which
is Tepper, if he doesn't like you, you're not getting
much of a leash in terms of turning things around.
And you had a sixteen game sample size. Now you
expected growth with Canals, but to all your point in
your pr hat of you didn't get to play a lot,
You didn't get.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
To see a lot of live action.

Speaker 2 (39:47):
And don't forget, dude still shell shot for getting sacked
sixty two times a year ago, right, remember David Carr
and what a turnstyle. As much as I love some
of the guys that were on that squad with him
in the Planet Houston all those years ago, I mean
that guy got bludgeoned time and time again, and we
saw it again with Andrew Luck with the Colts for

(40:07):
Bryce Young, he could go on and do the revisionist
of I would in the draft.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
Well they did, they did, and in fact, that had
a good Young was the number one guy right coming out.
This wasn't that c J. Stroutt Oh wow, you took
a chance and a risk. Bryce Young was the consensus
number one pick in the draft. Now, obviously things turn
out differently, but remember it was not too long ago
that oh, Ohio State doesn't put good quarterbacks out there?
How good is c J. Stroud really gonna be? Oh?

Speaker 5 (40:32):
C J.

Speaker 1 (40:33):
Stroud turned out to be good, But Bryce Young was
the consensus number one at the time. So that revision's history. Yeah,
but we do this all the time.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
We did it in twenty seventeen, right the Bears when
they drafted Mitch Trubisky, it wouldn't have been Patrick Mahomes
if they went based on college resume and expectations. It
would have been to Shaun Watson and it would have
been a whole other world of deciding what he became
in that Bears system. But either way, you got a
dysfunctional organization. You had sixteen games last year. He's maybe

(41:01):
Sam Donald seeing ghosts now, Sam Donald No no longer
than no good.

Speaker 1 (41:06):
But look at some of those two teams to go.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
Now, ye, look at some of those throws, right, it's
it's throwing to a guy in the flat and he's
five yards in front of him at his feet. Yeah right,
this isn't the easy throws are not easy. He's seeing
pressure and feeling pressure that isn't necessarily there. And so yeah,
you bring in the red rifle.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
I do like if it suddenly does go well, in
that scenario, hell is frozen over. So get yourself right.
I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but you got to
leave out the possibility that because it's not like either
of these games, you know, or at least last week
was so unwilling against the charges you could have made,
you have potentially done that. But yeah, you could have

(41:43):
handled it so much easier. I would have done it
so easy. PR Jason Smith exit, how about a Fresco exit?
