(00:55):
I always like when you can see a story from
the beginning to the end, and when when that can
happen over the course of a day, I kind of
dig that it's a it's okay in Hollywood anymore because
they don't know how to end the story. No, no,
But it's almost like it's almost like the sports version
of the serialized television show like House. Okay, so what's
gonna happen is here's the beginning of the show. Someone
(01:18):
has some kind of ailment. They can't figure out what
it is. They try a lot of stuff. Then House
has a very weird moment at the end, likely when
he talks to Wilson, and then he cures the patient
at the end. Right, that's what Okay, the big shit
every every episode.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Was at like, I like its stakes, some pills plays
the piano. Yeah yeah, yeah, deep thought, Yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
It's Oh, I figure this out. It's your immunal globulins
and it's and I can't believe that happened. And your
your epiglottis is way enlarged, and that's what happened in
your white blood cell counting, and it's it could be lupus,
but it's never lupas. So, uh, that's what happened to you.
Oh okay, great because cas Stanza always thought he hadn't
I just at a house. It's never lupis. Uh. But
(02:03):
that's kind of what happened today with Davante Adams. Okay,
Like we wake up this morning and you know, we
knew that Davante Adams was not playing for the Raiders
this week and he was now weak to wee right,
and we knew that he was on his way out
most likely. But we've known this for a while. We've
told you the beginning of the season, before the season started. Look,
Devanta Adams is not going to finish this season with
(02:25):
the Raiders. He's wanted out for the better part of
two years. He doesn't want part of a rebuilding process.
And the Raiders have been rebuilding two years. They still
haven't gotten the quarterback position. Right, We knew the guy
was gonna want out, but he was gonna have to
wait until we got closer to the deadline, because if
you're the Raiders, you can't trade your best player before
the season starts. Everybody's gonna unplug and say, what the
(02:45):
hell we play in this year? For so, as we
got closer and closer to the trade deadline, that's when
Adams had won out but not playing, and then Antonio
Pierce his social media account liking a post that said
Davante Adams has played his last game with the Raiders.
Ohoh okay, So that was over the weekend. Today we
(03:08):
got the rest of that story all the way to
the conclusion. So what's gonna happen now, is Davont Adams
getting traded? Then, only do we know for a fact
if he wants one. We know for a fact that
the Raiders want one. We know what the Raiders want
in return. We found out everything. It's a big formulaic thing.
Earlier in the day, he goes on up in Adams
with k Adams says, I never haven't talked to Antonio
Pierce in the last few days. I don't know what's
(03:29):
going on and who knows where things are. After that
report comes out, the Raiders say, we're willing to listen
where you know, for Davante Adams, We're willing to trade him.
Davont Adams then came out and said I want to
trade and okay, So now what's it gonna be? All
the compensation? No, no, we know what the compensation is
usually where what is the company? Isn't gonna be players,
(03:50):
gonna be picks it? No, no, we know the Raiders
want a second round pick and something else, whatever other
concessions they want, because whoever picks up Davante Adams are
gonna have to pick up the rest of his contract,
which is not very team friendly. Hell, you can always
figure out the money. So this is why second round
pick and something else, which is what the raiders want.
So we've seen this from the gestation until now it's okay,
(04:13):
he's going to be traded and someone's gonna get him,
and we know what the teams have to give up.
It's like, hey, in one day, it's like it's like,
you know, I've had everything but out in front of me.
I want Davonta Adams boy, But I don't know if
the Raiders got No. The Raiders said they want to
trade him. Yeah, but I don't know if he wants out.
I no know he wants out too. Yeah, but what
do the Raiders want? No, we know what they want,
a second round picking some concessions. Well, I guess you've
done all the work for me. Now I can make
(04:34):
a phone call. We can go get Davonta Adams. Nice
and it's fantastic.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Which which of the guys And it is a Telesco
that let that loose and just said, hey, I'm done.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Look, you knew that this was coming over the course
of the last few days. Now, before we get to
the destination, I'll tell you exactly where he's gonna go, uh,
Antonio Pierce, what the hell are you doing? Man? What
the hell are you doing? What are you or whoever's
in charge of your social media team, what are you
doing liking a post that rips one of your players. Okay,
you're not a player anymore. I get that it hasn't
(05:03):
been that long since you were an active player, and
now you're a coach. I get that you had a
captain's mentality, and this is why that so many teams
liked you and why the Raiders elevated you and kept
you for another year. But you're not a player. You
can't be liking stuff on social media about a player.
If you were still in the league and this is
a way to motivate somebody or you wanted to figure
(05:24):
out the locker room, yeah, do it. You're a coach now, Okay,
there's certain things that you ken and can't do as
a coach because you want to be able to show
I'm strong, I know what we're doing. I have the
best interest of this team in heart, for both players
and upper management. I got to do a lot of things.
It's why you're the head coach. You can't be liking
posts on social media. Like you're twenty five years old
(05:46):
and you're scrolling through your feet going, oh, yeah, I
want to send a message to Devonte Adams. You know
how you send a message if you're the coach, you
say something or you trade them, you do one of
those things. But now, like you like at just a kid.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Yeah, so if you're a teammate, this is not the
one to hit like on there are plenty that you
can go at the organization. You could like something with
regard to say a game plan or play goal.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
At least I get it if it's a player, because players,
they're on social media all the time and they treat
it very seriously. You're a coach, I'm sorry, but you
have to give certain things up. You have to be
the adult in the room. You can't just be the
fun guy. You can't be the fun parent. You know.
It's like when Rocket says in okay, time to go
be the captain, Like he wanted to be able to
tell Quill, Hey, Quill, sorry, I know your dad and
(06:27):
everything and your mom and all the crazy ass stuff,
but gotta go be the captain. Time for you to
go be the captain. Antonio Pierce, you can't just sit
here and say, ah, I'll play this petty game on
social media and send a message to one of my players.
It's not high school man, You're not You're not playing,
You're not to play. You are a head coach.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
It's a thing.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Man. You're wearing a suit metaphorically, you're wearing a suit
and tie. You have to be in charge of many
more things other than oh, this is how I'm gonna
send Devantie Adams a message. You have a lot more
power than you've ever had before, and you have to
separate that. You have gone from player and captain to coach.
It's not like a blind blurd from captain to coach.
It's a big deal to go from a captain on
(07:05):
the field to a head coach. And he just doesn't
get that. And he still wants to play player in
high schoolish games.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
And there's time and place for it right verbally, back
and forth, you go have it out, you get into
social media, then you get radio, TV and fans all
fired up. Because the fact that it disintegrated to this
by week four is just absurd on a million levels.
Because Devanta Adams was one of the guys that stand
(07:34):
for him at the back end of them last year,
I know to get the job right. And now you
got Antonio Peers in press conferences referring to him by
his uniform number instead of the seven T and the
respect of his name right. He said Max Crosby's name.
Said everybody else that he had to address something with
(07:54):
said their name. He's seventeen and he says Max Crosby
and he does the double X with his ex ma.
Now he goes pull on making sure that he knows
you know that you know that he was a fan
of Degeneration X back in the day.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Double X man.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
But all of that's to say, you're the coach of
a squad, you've gotten an opportunity.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
It's one of thirty two.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
We can laugh at histories and problems that organizations have had.
There's one thing you couldn't you couldn't question last year
that team fought. Why after week two, Week three, we're
already talking about business decisions, dissent and guys being lazy
and not finishing out for their teammates. And then it
goes directly into this DeVante Adams situation where to your
(08:45):
serial television show plot, you know, set up, plot, solution
and resolution, within an hour that we already have this.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Now it's just a matter of which team.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
That's sad to me we didn't get more back, And
I mean DeVante Adams clearly loves doing interviews, of course,
hen it was time to promote that receiver.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
I don't even know who the hell else was on
the sholf because that guy was everywhere, justinim. Hey, listen,
we're gonna edit out some of the other guys. Let's
put more of Davante Adams. He looks like he's on
week six of Lost. It's been in a chair doing
interviews the entire time. Hell, sit down whenever we want.
It's gonna work. It's gonna be great for Devonte Adams.
Is he the one that does the commercials with the
(09:26):
taco bell in this house? Yeah, it's okay, that's pretty cool.
I love have a taco bell in my house. I'm
sure he would gonna walk downstairs. I gonna have taco bell.
What are gonna do? Sit down, i'ma go back to
taco bell. All right, great, what do you want a chalopah?
Why so I could say the word chaloopah. Yeah, but
you have to wind up. You have to know that
I'm now a head coach, and you have to be
(09:48):
the adult and he's not the adult now as far
as what happens next, he's gonna be a Jet, all right,
let's be the favorite. This is not just me being
a Jet fan.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Jet.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
No, as you said, there the betting favorites. And there's
a couple of reasons why. And the first one is
pretty easy. Jobs are at stake. The Jets offense is
not very good. They're wide. Receivers are having trouble getting open.
This is more than likely because Aaron Rodgers only takes
one step and one point two seconds before he throws
the ball. We talked about his problems last night. That's
the real issue with the Jets. Is he still the
(10:19):
same quarterback? Can he still make the same throws? He's
very skittish, he throws off his back foot more pronounced,
doesn't have the arms for trust issues right with a
lot of the players on that team. And I get
that Garrett Garrett Wilson's great receiver, but yeah, he's not
going to get open. When you need to throw the
ball less than two seconds from when you drop back
to pass, it's hard. It's hard for a guy to
(10:40):
get open.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
He's gonna need to start lifted weights. He's got to
go to the Akwon Bolden school of possession receiver.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
So you're in a case of jobs being on the line.
The general manager's job is on the line. The head
coach's job is on the line. You're all in on
this season. If it doesn't work this season, you are
rebooting on offense. Maybe it's Jordan Travis as the quarterback,
maybe it's somebody else to get to Jordan Travis, but
you are rebooting. You're rebooting at quarterback. You're rebooting at
(11:07):
head coach, You're rebooting at general manager. The three biggest
things you are rebooting at. That's what's happening. I can say,
keep saying rebooting, rebooting, rebooting. You are rebooting those three positions.
So when that's the case, you're going to go out
and get Davonte Adams, especially since it's a second round pick.
You'll make the money work. I get it. But the
bigger thing is this. You want the season to be
(11:28):
able to go as well as it possibly can and
be in a positive frame of mind and have the
right energy around the team. You can already see that
with this Cadence Gate that Aaron Rodgers and Robert Sala
are not best friends. They probably don't talk, but it's
not as big a deal because it's really about Aaron
Rodgers playing well offense. And I told you this stuff
is not really relevant with the whole Cadence Gate thing.
(11:49):
But can you imagine what it's going to be like
around one Jets Drive if Davante Adams is out there?
Who wants to go back to Aaron Rodgers talked on
on TV today about how much he misses Aaron Rodgers.
Who would miss a guy like that? Who's on with
Kay Adams? From what Josh Allen's said him for right,
(12:11):
who would miss a guy like that? Can you imagine
what the reaction would be? DeVante Adams is out there,
the guy that Aaron Rodgers had the best chemistry with
of anybody in the NFL, who's still a great wide receiver.
You bring him in, it's him and Wilson and will
you know, I mean crazy? Can you imagine if that
(12:32):
doesn't happen, what the reaction would be from Rogers, how
his relationship would be with the Jets if they don't
get Devanta Adams he was there and instead, oh sorry, yeah,
we traded with the Steelers. We're not gonna do it.
I mean, after last week, you know that we have problems,
and who knows what the problems are going to be
coming back from London following this game against the Vikings,
because the Vikings are the best defense in the NFL.
(12:52):
How are they gonna keep Rogers up? Right? That's the
thing we need to talk about later on this. When
he throws the ball after less than two seconds getting
the snap, you're gonna be up one thousand and two
balls out. So I don't know where it's gonna be.
But could you image the Jets coming back from you know,
road weary from London from the game and oh yeah,
sorry guys, but you know, hey, the Dolphins wound up
getting to Monte Adams. Sorry, guys, couldn't make it happen
(13:14):
for you. Yeah, they wanted a second round pick in
a little bit of money, and we said we like
the guys we have. Do you know how things are
gonna just tear apart at the seams. The entire season
is gonna get ugly, it's gonna get bad, it's gonna
be then it's gonna be a real pull of power
with Rogers and solid it. It's gonna get ugly, man.
I told you think with the Jets is that it
can get ugly really fast. Docks things don't go well,
(13:37):
and this would be a thing right at the top.
That's why there's no doubt in my mind DeVante Adams
is gonna be a Jet.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
You can go back in the podcast archives and find
week six as the line of demarkation of what the
season was.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
We talked about that weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
Jets, then Chiefs, then Ravens, then Bills and Steelers than
Saints and Falcons, than Seahawks, and then there's been some
whispers you know, when it comes. I'm surprised the Commanders
aren't higher.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
On that list.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
There's been a lot of chatter of them, even going
back to the preseason, as well as the Cleveland Browns
as perhaps another thing to say, Hey, we gotta get
whatever we can out of de Sean Watson and bring
in every able bodied guy we can. Maybe Big Chubb's
coming back, right, he's back to practice tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Maybe double agent to Letsko will trade him back to
the Charge. Hey we need a deep threat. Don't tell anyone,
but I'm training you to the chart sh don't tell anybody, and.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Then like a heel turn outside allegiant, like a full
on WWE promotion he.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Takes and he's got like show me your lightning bolt.
He just a giant picture of Harbaugh in the middle
of the shirt. Yeah, Harbaugh comes out to hug him
like it. Oh yeah, Lad McConkey comes out, Oh, we're
gonna do great things. Looks up when someone's gonna get him,
and it's gonna that would be great. It's gonna be
the Jets. They're not gonna be out bid. They're not
(15:07):
gonna They're not gonnay, can't let this go the Jets, No, no, no,
almost in the box. Well, then they have to give
Wilson beat No, the Jets are gonna get him. Now
what happens after that is up for debate, because that's
when the Jets could jet. But they're gonna get him.
There's no way they don't get them Jets. I wouldn't
(15:30):
want the Jets are gonna that's a good argument. The
Jets are gonna say, we can't. I can't. I'm so
scared of the first interview Rogers does on McAfee's show
when we don't get Defonte Adams.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Yeah, I don't want that.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
I don't want that.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Made the most cogent logical argument that you could possibly
make in this situation.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
The Jets. No, the Jets. The off season stuff. The
Jets do what I'm sorry, the off the fields off
the Jets do pretty well. They draft, they get signed
free agents. But when you actually have to go on
the field is when things don't turn out well. So
they will get this done. Because it's an off the
field thing. Then you know it, montad on the field
(16:12):
so they have to screw it up. Yeah, But when
you actually step on the field as a Jet, it's
like in Field of Dreams when Burt Lancaster cross the
line he went from being a ball player to being
a doctor. Devont Adams goes from I'm Devonte Adams and
he steps on the field that met life and it's like,
oh no, whoa, I can't feel my hands anymore. I
don't know what this was. Why is this happening? I
can't catch the ball. Oh no, I'm a Jet. You
(16:34):
can't go back. Sorry, man, can't go And when you're
a Jet, hey, rookie, you were good. Exit out by
of Fresca Exit swalling down The Jason Smith Show with

and onions.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
But they use the sesame seed. B My, butns have
no seeds. Our toppings are on the bottom. You see,
our toppings are on the bottom. That's the best part.
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carpent Live from the
tirach dot Com Studios. Uh. We'll get back into the
(18:00):
the big story of the day in a second. But
we lost a legend we found out today.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
John Amos Uh passed away about a month or so ago.
Very Yeah. I remember there was that story about elder
abuse was going on with him. He's living in Colorado.
It was really weird. And we find out today that
he passed away a little bit over a month ago.
And you know, all day you've seen stuff on social
media for Me's incredible actor. He had an incredible career,
(18:25):
whether it was Coming to America or West Wing or
die Hard too. Just one of those guys that brought
that always brought that extra bit of unpredictability to every scene. Yeah,
he had that as an actor, Like certain guys come on,
you go, oh, what's he gonna do? Right, Like is
he what's he gonna And he did that all the
truth and it was it was just some people can
(18:47):
do that as an actor with that watchability factor of it,
and some some people just don't. But he always had
that whatever role he had, he had what is he
going to do? What's gonna happen? It was so unpredictable,
and you know he's he's a guy that had a
career that you didn't know where it was going to
go because he kind of you know, the story is
about good Times where he was written out of the show.
(19:08):
His character was killed off because he disagreed with the
writing on the show. He didn't like. He says, this
is not how black people act, this is not well,
this is not how we do things. This is all wrong.
And he disagreed with a lot of the scripts and
they wrote him off. And normally that you know, you
write something at that point when when someone gets written
off a show in Hollywood in the seventies, well it's
a guy gonna work again. And not only did that,
(19:29):
but he came back and you and coming to America
and Dieard too and everything else, and he was still
doing stuff up until a couple of years ago. You know,
he's able to come back from that. And that's a
huge thing to say, Hey, here's Hollywood say and here's
you know, a huge hit maker of a show, and
it's a it's a big deal. And and to come
back from that and have a great career another thirty
(19:51):
forty years to that career, that is really some testament
of being able to do your thing and get back
and do what you believe in and and continue to
go forward and have a career that look, no matter
how long any of us around, we're gonna be running
his lines from from coming to America. We're no question
we're gonna be running ones we don't have seeds, be
running those lines.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
Was the rest of our lives telling you about a
couple of clips from Good Times that started making the
rounds and some of the terminology and and and the
way he was standing up for his kids, right, because
what I saw show show up in the socials quite
a bit was, Hey, that was the real TV dad, right,
you know, for for African Americans, Like you know, you
(20:32):
had The Cosby Show or whatever else later on, but
he's first, right with Good Times, And then you look
at all the different arcs, right shows up at Hunter
for a giant arc. He showed up on so many sitcoms.
He was in the in the house, the show with
I'm going back to things that I watch LL Cool Jay,
like I watch anything ll Cool Jay ad on going
(20:54):
for a while, but I mean just a career that
spans fifty plus years. Man, Yeah, all those you know
IMDb accounts, folks going back on well, he did have
a role in that and that and a big arc
here and started with Tim Conway on his show, like
that was one of the things that came up, you know,
as as you're doing just the little history lesson of
all right, where where does he get his start?
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Like go all the way back to it, Tim Conway
Variety show.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
You know.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
And I remember it being I remember watching because when
I first watched Good Times, it was in its first
run of syndication, right. I didn't get it when it
was on the air because it was I was still
a little bit too young for it. But when it
was on every day after school and I would watch
it was it was so funny, and JJ was so funny,
and I let and and anytime he got into it
with Thelma and it was it was just such a
(21:39):
great It was so much fun. And the episode arcat
Wollona though, where you find out No, I like Thelma.
I liked that. I like Thema. I was like, oh,
I like Thelma. Wollona was fun. Which year gain But
I like Thelma okay. But like the character arc where
he kind of gets written off the show because he
disagrees with producers and and and I don't know where
(22:00):
it's going. And they have this episode where they're gonna
move because James gets this job in Alaska and he's
working for the like he's putting in the Alaska pipeline
or something like that. And they're getting all these telegrams
from people, Hey, this is your neighbor's upstairs. Sounds like
a great going away party. Great, here's what. Oh the
music sounds great. Thank you the Pointer sisters. And then
(22:21):
you got telegram we were got to inform you your
husband is And he doesn't even say your husband has died,
and everybody knows, and Michael hugs her and and it's
just such a powerful scene. I go, oh my god,
they killed off his cap. Oh my god, I can't
believe they did. It was such a shock for me.
And I still remember that, and I went through it
again today seeing the scenes, watching that scene again and
watching her damn, damn, damn scene when she just loses it,
(22:43):
you know, and smashes a cake plate because she was
trying to keep it together so much. I mean, it
was just that was just such a powerful moment in television.
It was just such a and and it all revolved
around him, and he wasn't even on the screen. But
but the fact that you remember, you knew he was
such a great character. It was It's it was one
of those things where you felt like, boy, we were
losing them for real, Like this was like, wow, he
(23:05):
was such a big part of this show and now
they're moving on without him. They ended the rest of
other seasons and they were still fun and they had
her get remarried and everything else. But you know, he
was He just brought that great sense of unpredictab build
The scenes with him and JJ were just tremendous, you know.
And my dad would always run always had one. He
always ran this great line from John Amison good times
whenever we didn't have food in the refrigerator. Like when
(23:27):
my dad and I lived together when I was in college.
I go, Dad, we don't have any food, and he goes,
have a jam sandwich two pieces of bread jam together,
because that was james big line when he goes, there's
nothing to eat here. I guess I'm gonna have a
jam sandwich two pieces of bread jam together. And he
would put two pieces of bread together and just start
eating it. And it was really really funny. Oh man,
(23:48):
But I'll tell you he had some career and I
actually saw once he did. This is probably about twenty
years ago. Did you try to run lines with him?
Speaker 3 (23:55):
No?
Speaker 1 (23:55):
No, no, because I was surprised because it was late
at night. It's like eleven thirty at night and I'm
in the supermarket and I'm by so whatever. Pam says, hey,
can you go to the store yet? Yeah, sure, no problem,
And I'm wising beer. No, No, that wasn't base. She
doesn't send me the store for beer.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
A gie?
Speaker 1 (24:07):
How was you a day? No, I was probably picking
up like balsamic vinegar or something whatever it was.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
No, you know what it was.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
I'm sure it was something that was incredibly difficult for
me to find, because that's all she sends me to
the to the to the to the Uh uh, guys,
balsamic vinegar And that's funny. No, no, she said. She
would always say, oh can you grow to the story? Yeah,
what do you need me to get? I need you
to get and she says, whatever it is, and I
just go, it's the most difficult thing to find in
the store. Yes, okay, yes, it's in the it's in
(24:34):
the I don't know what ale it's in, but it's
it's it's a sugar, but it's not with the sugar.
And I'm going, uh wow, oh you know what. So anyway,
I go and I'm in line and there's not many
other people in the in the supermarket, and and all
of a sudden, here behind me going can I uh
can I put myself up on up up up on here?
And I said, wow, that sounds like I said, that
(24:54):
sounds like John Amos. I turned around and go, yeah, sure,
Oh my god, it's John Amos. And I said, yeah, sure, no,
probably's by cigars and he buys cigars. But when he
said it, I go, oh my god, that sounds like
John Amos said, oh it is John. Yeah, go ahead, dude, okay,
no problem here he was. You really didn't run lines
with him? No, I was, I was. I was at
the point I was like, wow, dude, like I'm not
expecting that at that point. Like if I if I
(25:16):
think I'm gonna see somebody, I can have stuff planned.
But like if it just surprised me like that, like
oh okay, I don't can't perform under pressure, Okay. Like
when I saw Carl Weathers in the supermarket a few
years ago, I saw him before I got oh, I
can have a few seconds here before I say something
to him. But like John Amis has standing right there
in line, I'm like, oh, I got sorry. I don't
(25:38):
have a I don't have a line ready, And I'm sorry.
I'm not getting hassled. I'm not getting hustled. I'm just
trying to keep my head above water. Yeah, you can
put your cigars on the plane right here, right.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
I mean, I don't know, just say it was I
gonna say to him, I didn't know I want to
go smoke cigars.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Hey, hey, because I would talk about West Wing with you,
That's what I should have said. I'd began to talk
about West Wing. Admiral fitzwhile, let's ki, what can we
do there? The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon, Live
from the tire at dot Com Studios. Rest in peace,
John Amos, phenomenal, phenomenal career. Now in sports today, we
had four big games in Major League Baseball, the kids playoffs. Yeah,
(26:16):
four teams can get eliminated. Tomorrow, fourteens can move on
to the next round of the playoffs. What was the
best story today? Now you think I'm gonna say the Mets,
And for me personally, of course it's the Mets because
it was so bleep and exciting. But the best story
of today because you had the Royals win, you had
the Tigers win. You had the Padres Winn and Michael King,
(26:36):
former Yankee showing I could be an ace. The best
story is still a continuation of the best story from
the regular season, and that is the Tigers, because this
is such an unexpected run by a team that hadn't
been in the playoffs in a decade. They had not
quitted the deadline, but decided we're gonna kind of stand
pat They traded away a couple of guys like they
(26:58):
kept school ball, which is the right because the guys
gonna win the Cy Young Award. But they didn't really
go crazy to get anybody. They traded a couple of
guys away. And what happened. They had the best record
in baseball from the trade deadline on. They can't hit
at all, they can't run at all, but they can
pitch and they win games. And it's so unexpected and
and Detroit is such a it's a big blue collar
(27:20):
town with Hey, we like hard work and grinding out,
and that's why the Tigers. Tigers are always a number
one team in the town without a doubt. Michigan football
is the biggest thing in the state. But then you
have the professional teams it's Tigers baseball. Everybody loves the Tigers.
Everybody watches the Tigers. It's it's a it's a big
thing there. And and to see them succeed like this,
(27:42):
it's hard to not want to wrap your arms around
them and go out look at the Tigers, right, especially
when you're playing the Astros, who everybody is rooting against,
so you have them, but to be so limited, to
see teams that can only do so much and to
see them spread their wings and succeed, it's awesome. I mean,
they were the best story of the regular season. It
wasn't even close, you know, the best story of the
(28:03):
first day of the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
It's pretty fun. I mean, you don't have anybody that's
putting up gaudy stats. Riley Green started to have his
breakthrough twenty four and seventy four this year. Carpenter was
good when he was healthy. So, I mean, there's young guys,
and part of the narrative about them is, you know,
keeping Schooball was well. They think they're a year or
two away so that he could be the ace as
(28:24):
they get to that next phase. So they didn't want
to give him away, you know, just to go get
more draft picks or other prospects.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
So all that to say, guys.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Made big plays at the back end of the lineup
right big hits. You know, when you talk about your
catcher who's been fairly light hitting, and you know, the
subject of a lot of jokes Jake Rogers because he's
got a good name, Jake Rogers, like straight out of
Jake Taylor.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Jake Rogers, quarterback, New York Jets, something like that. Yeah,
so you know the fact that he gets a hit.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
You start seeing folks posting and this goes to my
specific brand of the Twitter verse where people start going, hey, dollar,
common autograph that I got into two hundred dollars bucks
might be worth a couple more bucks.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Like people get starky.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
But it's like it becomes timely hits and then you
got to pull the right strings. And in this case,
you and I would both agree that you probably would
have should have would have gotten an extra inning or
tried to grind an extra inning out of schoobl right,
you got six, Maybe getting seven with your ace out
there probably would have given you, you know, a little
(29:27):
bit less variability, But you grind it out, you close
it out anxious moments, fine, but you got your w
and it becomes a feel good because the unexpected source
of it. For me, it was also kind of fun
because anytime you can now see teams that battled the
White Sox all season long to send them the their
one hundred and twenty one defeats coming out of the
(29:48):
division and winning games in the postseason. They were battle
tested because they had to grind out against the White Sox.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
How about that? Because they were all those comebacks in
the eighth and ninth inning, they.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
Learned how to win.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
I'd grind it out the White Sox. It made me
grind it out. That's what happened. I can't black. That's
my story of chicken to it. Jerks made me grind
it up. They made you great exit out bout a
fresco exit. Swallowing down The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carmon Lifethetireck dot Com Studios. Now. A guy who's not
going to work here as long as the Mets continue
to baw It's Kevin waer Oh.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
I was gonna tell Mike Harmon though, that he shouldn't
fret about the White Sox this year because if the
Royals and Tigers are any indication it's a quick turnaround
there for those Al Central teams. The Tigers earlier this
year looked like they had no chance of making the playoffs.
Last year, the Royals had the second worst record in baseball.
But plan but don't look now They're both ahead one
nothing in their wild card series. The Royals blaking the
(30:43):
Orioles one to nothing. Cole Reagan's eight strikeouts and six innings,
Bobby Wood Junior the lone RBI of the game and
RBI single in the sixth inning to give the Royals
out one nothing lead. The Tigers and Astros Tick Scooball
six strikeouts and six innings. He needs to learn how
to throw a screwball, so I could say scooball screwball,
(31:03):
but he did pitch the Tigers to a win. All
of the Astros threatened at the end, loaded the bases,
but would fly out to end the game. So Detroit
now leads this best of three series one game. Tonne
Padres and Brave San Diego shutting out Atlanta for nothing
as Michael King an outstanding performance. He had twelve strikeouts
(31:24):
in seven innings of worked, allowed just five base hits,
no walks allowed for Nano Tatisse two run home run
San Diego ahead won nothing. In the Mets, a big
fifth inning five runs to helped pull away from the
Brewers as they win that one, eight to four. And
in the WNBA Playoffs Liberty and Aces, it's New York
taking a commanding two nothing series lead against Las Vegas
(31:47):
eighty eight to eighty four. As Aga Wilson twenty four points,
seven rebounds for Vegas, but Sabrina yuniskw a great game
for New York, propelling them to win twenty four points
and nine rebounds, and the Minnesota Links defeat the Connecticut
Son seventy seven to seventy, so that series tied at one.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Nickyame a peace back to you guys. Thank you. Kdub

All the best stuff from tonight all aren't big takes,
best Baseball story of the day, DeVante Adams trade, whose
fault it is? Where's he gonna wind up going? It
(33:11):
is all going to be there for you in that
best of podcasts. And what's also going to be there
is one fan base who is really, really, really not
happy after tonight, and that's the Yankees. I'll just come
right out and say it. You just went straight to it.
It's the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
No dancing around, not Raider fans, No, no, no, no,
not buccaneer fans, there are no quarterbacks getting chirpy.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Also in the podcast, no no, no, no, no no,
you went straight to the Yankees who didn't even play it. Hell,
they didn't play today. I was my day off. I
got fired on my day off. But you know they're
really mad because they watched Michael King tonight. And again
it's not like they wouldn't have made the trade before
for Wan Soda. But this is a Yankee team that
needs all kind of pitching, Yeah, all kinds of help.
(34:00):
And you just watched a guy who you threw into
the trade, and you just said, yeah, what is it matter.
A guy's in the bullpen, What does it get. Hey,
he's a good he's a good pitcher, but he's in
the bullpen. Well, what's she gonna do? And he was,
he was a good picture in the bullpen for the
last couple of years out of Lowie ra Well and
Andres decided, we're gonna turn you into a full time starter.
And now here he is tonight seven innings where it
(34:21):
looked like he was throwing a whiffle ball, twelve strikeouts,
and the patreser one went away from a date with
the Dodgers in the NLTS because Michael King was phenomenal.
The Braves never even threatened in this game. It was
and this wasn't like the Braves. Hey, they had a
tough time getting off the plane after the game against
the Mets the doubleheader a day ago. No, Michael King
(34:42):
was just throwing a ball like like the whiffle ball
had a rock at it and it would just go.
And Yankee fans right now, they just are gonna they're
gonna wake up in the morning and they are gonna
be on fire, going this guy we threw into this
trade and now he's an absolute ace and he comes
up with this kind of game tonight for the pot, right,
you know.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
But that's the thing, right, is that the final stat line, right,
and people are gonna see the box scoring, they'll see
a couple of highlights and they'll be like, all right,
that was great, what a start at fantastic And maybe
you try to excuse it Braves this that the other's like, No,
he made them look silly, right, the movement he had
on some of his pitches, even deep into his start,
like we're talking the six seventh inning, I mean, he
(35:22):
still just had ridiculous sweeping movement, and guys are just
flailing right, You're just swinging all right, that's coming.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Over the middle.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
It's like, Nope, that landed in the catcher's glove a
good six inches off the plate on the other side.
So just a lot of confusion and consternation. And I
can only imagine when your dad wakes up tomorrow the
the text you will receive, because you certainly went out
of your way. Yeah, yeah, you just send them a
bunch of pictures on here's a couple of gifts of King?
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Or did you just send him a crown? I don't
send him a picture of a crown. I don't think
that there's a I don't think Michael King has any
gifts yet. I mean maybe after tonight made we go
and create a call. He threw a couple of those pitches.
Where woo did that ball go? So I texted my
dad tonight, Hey, Michael King was so great tonight. I
forget where was he the last couple of years. And
I'll wake up tomorrow morning and I'm gonna turn my phone.
I'm just gonna go bling bling, and I'll get the
(36:15):
text that that I usually come in before I wake
up and I'll get bling, and it's gonna just say
Felix hunger.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
That's with F and U capitalized Felix. Well, you know,
it's my dad. It's gotta keep it classy. But they
have a couple more days. And what's interesting about it, right,
is you make the trade. You also had one of
the other players thrown in hits a home run to
make it for nothing, so so you have that going
for you. But it's really all about it's not even
what Juan Soto does in this postseason. It's whether he
(36:43):
shows up again for spring training twenty five.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Right, that's the thing that's gonna magnify this on a
whole other level. Whatever King does, whatever the Padres do. Obviously,
looking ahead to the big weekend series, that seems like
it's inevitable to go all fanos and everything.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
But until Juan Soto decides what.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Cap he's wearing for twenty twenty five, this is all
in a holding pattern. But the show is today, so
at least in the moment, there's just a lot of clenching.
It's one of our favorite words on the show. I mean,
I just I can just imagine what it's going to
be like.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
And this is where this is why the Yankees don't
make big trades, right, this is why the Yankees have
driven to the fantasy league because, right, I don't want
to be the guy that lets one get away and
here because here's Brian Cash, but well we had to
get Sodo, but now we give up a guy who
was That's why, no, I've never making a trade again,
not making a move again, not doing it, not doing
that because as much as it's great to get him,
(37:40):
boy always gonna hear about it. How great, Michael King,
what's right?
Speaker 3 (37:43):
So you'll hear that and the start and even if
it fizzles in a subsequent round, if starting pitching is
the thing that absolutely torpedoes what the Yankees do. Say
they score five a game, but they're giving up eight,
you're gonna be magnifying this. I only imagine what the
fish raps will say tomorrow, and certainly New York Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
Are you kidding me? Oh yeah, Oh, it's gonna be great.
They're gonna go absolutely crazy after this.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
You can have a francessa rant where he calls them
something that isn't King, and then that guy, that guy
that was here.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
No, no, I don't know if he does anything anymore, FRANCESSA,
Oh you know that he does? He does? Does he really?
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Yeah? Okay, all right, maybe I mean Tyscher plays the
counting thing, but you know that's a while ago.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Okay, all right, he still pops out of the weeds
to have his rants against Rogers and everything else.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
So you know you got an opportunity there.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
But certainly, you know, you poll fans right now after
this performance if they watch it performance, if they watched
the back end of it.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Yeah, what do you got five bucks?
Speaker 3 (38:44):
If you show up to your dad's house in the
morning with the King Padre Jersey, I'll give you another ten.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
I don't even know if I can get what the
San Diego might not even make him and then night
after tonight. But I mean, no, you want thirteen games
for them this year? By the by of the year,
they had one, all right, so let me so let
me let me throw this at you here. Yeah, Tigers
now with win over the Astros tomorrow moves on to
the to the A l DS Royals, where the win
over the Oarls can do the same thing. National League
(39:11):
Padres and Mets both have win away if I said
to you, okay, give me the one team that's gonna
tie it up tomorrow, Astro one team is gonna tie
it up. Wow, that easy? Huh Oh, that easy? Going
with the Cheetah. You can never go to Detroit, man,
I would have to say to my house to make
it it's more localized. Likely to be going to Detroit
(39:32):
was low.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
And I guess Frostburg has now got bar Hey, he's
got a picture saying keep this guy out.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
See, I'm gonna I'm gonna go with the Braves because
the Padres don't have a starter for tomorrow yet. The
fair point you're coming off of this, and look, the
Braves are still a really good team, and I expect
to see them because look tonight they looked like zombies
and and and and King made them look awful. But
I'm gonna go with the I'm gonna go with the Braves.
Getting that w to I mean, I wanted to say
Brewers just to see what kind of respond No. But
(40:00):
then you can't go to my house or Frostburg's house.
So there's two houses you can't go in. That's what's
gonna happen right there. I see enough of you guys
here anyway, Exit out bout of Fresco, Exit swollen down.
