Speaker 1 (00:27):

(00:50):
Thirty one six. They're in the end zone. Oregon still
with the lead midway through the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, two
minute warning in Vegas, UNLV lead Seria cues thirty eight
thirty one. Syracuse is driving. They are at midfield. If
you like points in every play on offense gaining ten yards, well,
this is your game. We'll have more college football coming

(01:11):
up in a few minutes. But joining us now from
the site of the Browny James NBA debut. It is
longtime Lakers insider friend of the show fam on Twitter
at Mark g Underscore Medina. That's at Mark g Underscore Medina.
See him here on TV in Los Angeles and many

(01:32):
other places. Mark, what's happening, buddy? How are you?

Speaker 3 (01:36):
I'm doing well? Just just another det trying to undermind
JJ Reddick from the sidelines here.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Now, that's the thing, because it's because it's been a
couple of months. Want to make sure that you know,
people understand that you have said many times on the show,
your job this year is to undermine everything JJ Reddick
is going to accomplish with the Lakers this year.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Well, look what he started here. As the Lakers are
playmos at a preseason game, decided not to play Lebron
James Sandy Davis to rest him because the preseason. But
a halftime I told JJ, you know what, this is
a good strategy to lead into the regular season. Make
this a happen.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
And they were supposed to play tonight though weren't they? Mark,
wasn't it at the talk all week and the underminer
got involved, and the underminer made this happen.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
There you go, No, I mean, in all seriousness, the
talk was that they would play either game. So how
about this for a historical moment. We see Browny James
making his debut. I mean it's zero points missed, all
three shots, had a turnover. But he's gonna make I think,
his debut with his dad Sunday against the Phoenix Suns

(02:41):
and Kevin Durant Wall to be on the court at
the same time. It's amazing how full circle it is.
Where you know, several years ago is Lebron and Katie
going out in the finals, and now KD can witness
this father son duo for the first time.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Oh that's where they wall take a picture together, and
then midway through the season, Katie will demand a trade
to La for the rest of the you're and they'll
run this picture all the time.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
I think what's going to happen is they're just going
to be this dynamic duo one two punch and it's
going to plant the seeds for Kevin Durant to think,
you know what, I want to be a part of.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
The section like that I thought you're going to say,
Katie and lebron would be locked up and then Bronnie
would come and gluleum uh.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
If Ronni, this is my team, get out of the
white pops, I want you.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
I mean, he did have the chase down block like
his old man today.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
So so we saw that highlight.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
And you know what I mean. The thing I know
we're coming with punchlines here. That one thing that's I'm
serious here about Bronni is that he competes like he's
a team guy. He'll hustle. So if he'll make a mistake,
they'll take ownership and they'll try to rectify on the
next place. So you know, I think no one's under
this illusion is gonna be a star player. I don't

(03:53):
even know if he'll be in the rotation, but you know,
when he's playing the G League, they're going to be
comforted that he's going to take it seriously and he'll
do all the right things to try to least be
you know, a role player down the lines.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Now, he only played six minutes tonight. Now, as you say,
he scored as many points as you have, and what
you saw from him tonight, does he Hey, don't get
a twist it.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
I didn't miss any shots, though.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
You miss the shots you don't take. So what you've
seen from does he look a little out of place?
Does he look like he belongs? He looked like like
like just the eye test that you've seen from him
so far.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yeah, I think right now he's a big time work
in progress. But that is okay. You know, no one's
projected him to live up to his dad's stilling. I
think no one's even really projecting him to have a
significant role other than this season having that father son moment.
Maybe at the regular season, maybe in preseason.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Now.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
I was talking to some executives this offseason about Broddy
and they were stressing to me, no joke, that he
has a pathway to be a really good role player
for like ten fifteen years, because he has a good
attitude and he doesn't have a defined skill set right now.
But they think that he can work his way into

(05:09):
having that skill set, whether it's a good defender, maybe
a good shooter, combination of both. He's never going to
be a elite all these things, but you know, there
is a market for this in the NBA because every
winning team wants role players. That can provide some sort
of intangible and that won't complain about their roles. And
I think that there is a pathway for Braun to

(05:31):
live up to us. Obviously clearly much different than what
Obron is with, you know, game championships, shattering records and
being in the goat debate. But you know what, as
far as what his potential could be, it could be successful.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
Now, obviously we got to catch up with everybody of
what they did on their summer vacation at Media Day,
but Lebron doing like the little extra credit line set
the World on fire and Don's Wagon?

Speaker 1 (05:55):
How did you interpret that one?

Speaker 3 (05:57):
I didn't have any problem with that. I looked at
that is the same analogy that he is having this
amazing hot fudge Sunday and he wants to just top
put as many crazy toppings immatgable, like you're at Boskin Robbins,
and have fun with it. So I think he is
very comfortable that his legacy is the hot fudge Sunday,

(06:18):
But why not go all out and go all Ben
and Jerry's and put crazy toppings on top of it
to make it even better?

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Does Lebron strike you as someone who I've done everything
I've had my career, and I'm going to enjoy the
moments and if winning happens, it happens, or does he
still does he still kind of have that drive going forward. Hey,
he still feels like you can get to a finals
and he can. He can maybe get one more school.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Yeah, that's the push pool here, because I think right
now he is on cloud nine, which is having these
cool father stun moments. I think that's gonna continue once
they make their debut, whether it's Sunday or in the
regular season. But he still has that thought that I
still can play at a pretty high level to win
a championship. I just need the right roster around him.

(07:07):
And I think that that thought crystallized even more when
he was part of the Paris Olympic team that won gold.
I mean, he was playing very well, he was a
very important part of the team. Yet he was obviously
with other Olympians, other future Hall of famers, and I
think the fact that he was also playing with Anthony
Davis continuing that two man game that became familiar. You know,

(07:29):
in the last few years of the Lakers. They were
really much illustrated that both those players are still playing
really great, and the Lakers got to find the right
roster around him. Now that's the challenge here. They found
this past summer. They don't have enough assets to dangle
in a trade, and they also don't want don't want
to strip those assets so much. That's a third star
and then just that minimum guys. So they feel like

(07:49):
the best pathway is to improve from within, with JJ
Reddick making presumably better in game adjustments than Darvin Ham did.
And look, even though they're technically on the roster, last
gave Vincent and Jared Vanderbilt weren't having Queen Bill's a
health gave Vincent's fully healthy. Jared Vanderbilt still coming back
from surgery with both of his procedures with both of

(08:11):
his feet, but there's relative optimism they can be healthy.
They are role players, but they feel like if all
those things click, they at least have a fighting chance
to be in the mix. They're not a favor like
Oklahoma City or Boston, but as long as you have
a healthy Lebron, I guess technically they still have a shot.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
Hey, Mark, this is Stevens studio power problems. But I
was watching just a tad of the Lakers first quarter,
and I made sure to bring it up to Jason Smith,
the New York fan, that we had Dante Divincenzo's and
for Minnesota, can you please, before Jason gets back, comment
on the trade and how great de Vincenzo is going
to be?

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Not lying.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
Look, he made every single one of his shots, that's amazing.
I was talking to Rudy Golberrett shoot around about the
fit with Julius Randall. He was gushing on Clile nine
about Randall because of his versatility and just his adaptability.
The same thing with Julius Randalls. So even though they
missed Karl Anthony Towns, they feel very comfortable with the
trade they made. Now, I don't want to trow Jason

(09:10):
too much. I did talk to some people around the league.
They feel like Minnesota did take a step back. They
feel like, you know, it's going to take some time
for them to iron out the chemistry and that the
trade had more to do with financial concerns anything else.
And so I think that Nicks, they're not the favorite
of the Boston still is, but you had Jalen Brunson,
Karl Anthony Towns and the Tom Tibodeaux coach team with

(09:31):
a lot of depth. Even without Donte de Vincenzo, they
do have a chance.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
Oh no, we are, we are the favorites. I'm back
not when I heard devincenzos and I made them get
me back up. They figured all this out. Uh look, look, Mark,
I look at it like this. Right when this trade happened,
I said to myself, I fully expect to see these
two teams play in the finals. I expect to see
the Knicks and the Timberwolves. The Knicks are loaded, what
they've done, bringing in Bridges, you know, and now bring
in Karl Anthony Towns. Yes, losing de Vincenzo was tough,

(09:58):
but what was his path two minutes? And was he
someone that hit his peak in the playoffs when the
Knicks were playing three against five? So I understand that.
But for the Timberwolves, look how deep they are. They're
a tremendously good defensive team, and you can keep rolling
guys out and role more scoring out there. After this
trade went down, we talked about on the show that night.
I said, I expect on paper, right now, Nick t Wolves,

(10:20):
that's your NBA Finals right now.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Well, you know you got to keep the faith because
you're a k Next fan. Now, people around the league
I talked to you still think it's going to be Celtic something.
It'll be Thunder, some Nuggets. Some even give an outside
shot to Phoenix if they can stay healthy. But I
think it's going to be Oklahoma City. But I don't
say it's impossible because I think the Knicks did get better.
You know, a lot of people want to talk about

(10:44):
karl anthy Towns and the time with Tom Thibodeau and
Minnesota and well, but carlth and Towns is a much
different player than he was then. He's I think, has
a complete game offensively, and he's really grown defensively. Now
that doesn't mean that he's a bruiser, but he's still
an effective big man. And look, I think regardless of this,

(11:05):
it starts with Jalen Brunson. I'm being one hundred percent
serious here, Jason. I wrote a magazine story for a
Windy magazine that's Alan newsstands with a story on Jalen
Brunson saying that he is the next superstar of the NBA.
Uh So they're very real. They make to the finals.
I'm not going to be surprised. They'll give the edge
to Boston to look or Zingis could be hurt. And

(11:27):
New York is playing out of its mind, you know,
last season, and they're just going to continue on that
pretty good path with a really good trade. So look,
it'll be a tough seven game series.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
That's right. Got to get you. Yeah, and Mark, you
can send me that frame copy of the of the
front page whenever you want to, and I'll put it
up and put it up in my office right behind me.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
I would drop it off at the studio, my friend
here go, I'm gonna go find that over at you know,
I got a Barnes and Noble trip tomorrow, so I'll
go see if I can find that. Let's go. Uh
Like Tom Thibodeau is smiling too much for me. That's
all I'm going to say about that. Joel Embiid's lost
twenty five to thirty pounds, saying he should listen when
they tell him to back off a little bit.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
What kind of posturing is this?

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Yeah, I mean it's always about watch what they do,
not what they say. Because I know that Joel Embiid
and people around him, including his trainer Drue Handling, I
didn't necessarily faull Philadelphia, but folded the idea with his
player pernticipation policy with players having to play at least
sixty five games to get awards that have contract implications.

(12:30):
And there's a really strong feeling around his camp that
he came back too soon from his injuries last season,
and so I think it's going to be more of
the cautious approach because he feels that's better now. When
he talks to people around the league, they think the
Sixers are the real deal. Some would rag them second
behind Boston, maybe third now because of the Knicks trade.

(12:52):
But the reality is Joel Embiid hasn't shown he can
be consistently healthy, neither Kemp Paul George. So while I
don't think there's a lot of question marks from a
chemistry standpoint and even a depth standpoint, there's always question
marks about the health. So they're just gonna be a
wild card and a roller coaster all suits.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
You can fall him on Twitter at mark G Underscore Medina.
That is at Mark G Underscore Medina. Also all season
he will be undermining JJ Reddick every single chance he gets. Hey,
don't be surprised if somehow Lebron doesn't play Sunday, and
it's because Mark Medina said, hey, Lebron don't play. Well.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Look, I took time out of the coaching and talk
to you guys. Now I gotta draw some place for
him that won't work.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Okay, good, good, good. And I also want to say this,
in the entire time you spent with us the last
few minutes, you have not missed a Bronni James point.
So you're okay, You're all good. You're all good.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
That is very true, but a lot of deep points.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Take it easybody, I'll see you sa Mark, welcome back. Happy.
Look to be serious about this. You know, it's you know,
we've talked about the carl Anton, the towns version of
the end of the Knicks trade for so long. But
minute people forget how good Minnesota was last year. You know,
they just rolled through Denver and it's wow, look how
good they are defensively, how young? And then things sort

(14:11):
of fell apart, but you know how talented they are.
And yes, we're towns in go bear a little bit redundant. Yes,
did towns have more trade value? Yes, so this is
why you did what you did. But you added someone
in Julius Randall, now, who's going to be able to
do a lot of things. Well, you don't have to
rely on him to be the number one of the
one a guy because he can't get his own shot,

(14:33):
and the Knicks defaulted too much. Too Well, we have
to give him the ball because we're paying him and
he's our leader, and we hope you want to keep
him happy, right like, And I always hate that you
got to keep a guy happy. But that was Julius
Randalls when he was happy, things were good. When he
wasn't happy, Oh that's when he struggled. And so yes,
when you have Julius Randolin that you're not relying on
to be your number one option and Devincenzo who can

(14:54):
come off the bench and light it up in a second,
right like, I see why the Knicks had to give
him up for the trade. The path the playing time
was not great for him because there are other guys
in front of him now. And maybe you hit him
at his peak last year, like the playoffs for him,
when it was when it was him and Hart and
brings it and nobody else. Okay, maybe that was the

(15:14):
top of de Vincenzo's val i don't think they wanted
to trade him. Obviously. Look he was a groomsman in
Jalen Brunson's wedding. I'm sure they wanted to keep him.
They want to keep the Villanova guys, and yeah, but
you have to trade him, and so I get that.
But he's such an addition for the Timberwolves that makes
them so deep. This team is going to be so good.
They are going to cruise into the postseason and have

(15:35):
a lot left in the tank because they're gonna be
able to keep the minutes down on a lot of
their players because you just added two guys that can
play thirty between twenty and thirty minutes a night, or
a little less depending on how the game goes. Whatever
you want to do, and you're gonna enter the playoffs fresh.
I'm telling you, I'm expecting nick t Wolves in the
NBA Finals.

Speaker 4 (15:52):
Look at you going all the way through and then
Devincenzo gets his ring and he dances around Tom Thibodeau.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Now, come on, man, why you do that to me?
Why let's worry about the finals win again? Why are
you gotta give me that I'm gonna lose the full
I mean, you're setting up the showdown. So why you
doing that to me? Man?

Speaker 4 (16:09):
Because you understand your sports place in the world yet
too that level of excitement and then it's taken away
from you like Charlie Brown and so many.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Footballs exit out about a Fresca exit swollen Dome. The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live from the Tireck
dot Com Studios coming up next year. On a Football
Friday Syracuse, UNLV headed to overtime thirty eight thirty eight
Kyle McCord a touchdown pass with twenty seven seconds left
to go. Let the record show. I wanted series to

(16:39):
go for two because UNLV is gaining ten yards of play.
I don't understand you're not stopping them. You're not stopping them.
But we have overtime in that game, and Mike and
I break down two of the biggest games of the
week in the NFL. One team is gonna get that
elusive first win of the year exit They won a
game yet, yes, so said, yeah, it's all right, what

(17:02):
is the record?

Speaker 4 (17:03):
I did like your excitement, though he was excited that
maybe they didn't win the record.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Yeah, Cleveland is two and two. Yeah, okay, okay with
that buddy, all right, I'm sorry. No, no, no, they only
won once. They won and their one yeah last week one?
Yeah yeah yeah they No, No, they have one win. No,
I just gave it to them. Okay, well they used
to be the Jets wins. That the only way. How

(17:28):
would they had? The Jets get that win. They gave
it to them. They didn't know they couldn't play and win.
They had to give it to them.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Jets aren't good.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Yeah, I forgot. They blew that game against the Raiders
last week. That was true. I know they won them
two and two. Uh so somebody gets that elusive first
win on Sunday. Who is it?

Speaker 4 (17:46):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (17:47):

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
App Foxports Radio. He'son SMIT showing the Mike armand live
the direg dot Com studio. Oh no, no, ty Shirt,
you're so good aware of this sports No no, no, no,
no no, So Harmon, Tyscher and I are talking right
right before we started here, and you, Tycher, tell me

(19:17):
what music he's coming back with. And I said, okay,
he goes, Jason, just like he goes, I have four
words for you. He goes, I have four words for you.
And I said, okay, what he goes, tears for I
have three words for you.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
I so did that for some reason that I was like,
tears for the fears. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
It's it's the tears for fear that the tears, the
tears for the fears, it's actually five you said, the
rolling stones, the tears for that's the pause for me.
That did it because like you can hear like I
could hear like tyshert counting in his head. Okay, the
tears for fears, Okay, go yeah, I got it, the
tears for this. Just like any good rep.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
I have to count the yards.

Speaker 5 (19:59):
Right.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
This is sorry. I have three words to say. Three
words sorry.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
Here we are live tirac dot com studios. Over time
between Syracuse and UNLV. Syracuse was on the doorstep, they
were on the five yard line, looked like they were
gonna punch it in. They are down by a field
goal to UNLV. However, Syracuse gets called for a chop block,
it gets pushed back third and twenty. Syracuse just trying

(20:26):
to get in the field goal range here a little
bit and a dump pass and a roughing the passer penalty.
It is a helmet to helmet hit. Woodard goes in
and hits Kyle McCord in the helmet and you can
see it on the replay. It is a legit call.
So now Syracuse first and ten, it is a review
now for targeting. Potentially there could be an ejection again

(20:47):
where an overtime Syracuse wins, well, we don't know yet.
Syracuse wins, okay, but it's Vegas. That doesn't happen. Man,
it's Vegas. I mean you can see it on the replay.
He goes and you can see that, you can see
the targating helmet to helmet on McCord. Like. It's been
a real physical game and there's been a lot of
right after the whistle things for both teams. So we're

(21:09):
kind of waiting to see how this gets officiated. But
no matter what, it's gonna be a first and ten
for Syracuse inside the fifteen yard line. We love more
in this game coming up in a few minutes, Steve
de Sagre will tell us with what is trending, hopefully
with a very happy update for your host, Jason Smith. Meanwhile,
two big games I did I did well. I always

(21:30):
say that it's the Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon.
You always think with interviewing people, Hey, it's a Jays
Smith Show with me Mike Harmon. Like people think, somebody else?
Are you you can Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon,
with me Mike Harmon. Okay, there's two people. That's Jason,
he's Mike.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
I gotta say no, no, miitting a random third person
to tag in.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
It's with me, Mike Harmon. This guy, everybody, it's me.
It's Mike Hartman.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
I want a little bit of a publicity now and again.
That'd be good, all right, but two big games in
the ed fell this weekend. Let's get to here for
couple minutes and.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Let let let's let's let's pay off the big the
non Cleveland tees from a few minutes ago with Tyscher,
I will I will tell you this. I feel really
good about the Jaguars getting their first win of the year.
Look at you. I feel ultimately good. Look they'll break
through in a high scoring game. The Colts every week,
I feel like there's so many variables. Is Anthony Richardson

(22:25):
playing quarterback? Is he not? Is Jonathan Taylor playing running back?
Is he not? Richardson is up in the air. Taylor
has already been ruled out of out for the game.
The Colts have a lot of issues right now. And yes,
Joe Flacco came in and looked really good. Look, Joe
Flacco is inevitable, right, we know Joe Flacco and Andy Dalton
are both inevitable. Turns out, Chewba Hubbard is kind of
inevitable too, But really, for the purposes of this game,

(22:48):
Joe Flacco is inevitable. But this is a really back
to the wall situation for Jacksonville. And Trevor Lawrence has
plays better recently, right, I'm look, he's the middle of
the pack quarterback, but he has played better recently. I
just don't know where the Colts are at. I don't
know where you know week to week. It's got to

(23:08):
be so difficult preparing with different skill set guys, especially
when a guy like like Anthony Richardson needs as many
reps as you can possibly get. Now, you wonder is
the guy ever gonna be healthy? So I feel pretty
good about the Jaguars at home getting that first win.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
Yeah, looking at this one, whether it's Richardson slash Flacco
in some kind of time share, Trey Sermon's gonna be
a running back Jaguars last week.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
The disappointing thing was they had.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
A lot of opportunities and against Houston and Lawrence just
missed what four or five throws that you could easily
just say, all right, a little touch here, a little
off there. Just the timing was off. Had Thomas a
couple of times should have been big plays and just
ball falls harmlessly incomplete. So yeah, just a difficult spot.

(23:55):
They lost those first two games by a total of
eight points. This does look a very winnable game, Richardson,
if he's able to complete it. I mean, he's completing
fewer than fifty percent of his pass attempts, So yeah,
you can go get it. I'm with you. I don't
know if I like the three that they're giving, but uh,
you know, like one of those, one of those one.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
You ever really like a team that doesn't have a win.
That's giving point to me on man, that's the.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
Game, it's a home game. They've owned the series, all
of those things. Taylor's ruled out.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
So yeah, it's it's one of those.

Speaker 4 (24:33):
I'm surprised they were favored, to be honest with you,
because they haven't really got like the one thing that
coming into the season there there was some hope was
that they'd be able to get a bit of a
pass rush, and that's been non existent thus far. Like
opposing quarterbacks have been operating with a fairly clean pocket.
You watched it what Stroud was able to do, and

(24:54):
he's exceptional, not having a monster season, but what he
was able to do with Nico Collins, it was they
were just playing pitch catch. So, I mean it's a
now now a difficult spot, but yeah, get that home victory.
Get off the snide as they say, we.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Will have our other big game. We're gonna break down
coming up in a couple of seconds, but right now,
not that everything is coming up Smith, Oh my goodness,
laquint Allen just bulldozes his way into the end zone
Syracuse with a touchdown. They upset number twenty five UNLV.
It is an unreal run. He gets stopped in the backfield,

(25:33):
he carries the tackler three yards into the end zone,
Syracuse with the W. Everything's coming up Smith right now,
Mike Carmon, It's like the Summer of George, except it's
the It's the week of Smith. I had Lindor, I
have Alonzo, I have leaquint Allen. This is my week.
I mean, I'm gonna ready, this is my week.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
I'm gonna ask this question for the Globe right because
we're a global show on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
Did you go down to the crossroads last week? Stevie Vibe? Yeah?
And if so, is the devil coming to collect this?
Wee man?

Speaker 4 (26:07):
My goodness everything this week, here we go. You get
the third and twenty. It's harmless, right, get all this,
but you get the penalty, and now you get the w.
Good for you, man, And now they get to go
run a monkey in Las Vegas. Show this and Toddy

(26:28):
Wierman right now is probably gonna text me going, I
saved a Smith the seat bother to show up for.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Eighty five points. Well, listen, look, I would have loved
to have gone to this. No, look, I would have
loved but I have to work. It's like tonsas Oh,
come to the game. Oh, and what do I do
for the show. It's going into a big football weekend.
We still have the Mets to talk about it. But
I can't just take off. I'm not like some Vegas
high roller wearing these crazy sharkskin suits. It just says, yeah, yeah,

(26:55):
what do you want me? Hey, man, getta get a
free buffet, get a free steak dinner for them and
a free Yeah, here we go. I'm gonna do a
gambling podcast for five minutes and I'm done for the day. Now.
This is kind of it. This is the shows where
we live. For us. We can't just take off and go.
This is gonna be some of my the best memories
of my life when I get done going. Man, I
remember being on the air for that night that was amazing.

(27:15):
I remember saying, I remember being on the air for
Alonzo's home run. I remember being on the air from
in doors home run. Remember being on the air when
the Knicks won the title. I remember I remember being
and then that's good. That's gonna be it. But that's
what I'm gonna remember all. I mean, it's what it's
come on, man, being on for all of this.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
Yeah, let me throw this out, you know, for my guy,
Todd Furman. I don't know if you'd be more offended
if you about the do a podcast for five minutes
and then go run run around Vegas, or the fact
that you had him wearing a sharkskin suit.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
I like sharkskin suits. Well we got sharkskin suits going on.
There you go.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
If you search sharkskin suit, one of the responses is
a sharkskin suit in the regular suit.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. Special delivery Steve to Sager, who will
be able to break down every one of Kyle McCord's
throws tonight for Syracuse against UNLV.

Speaker 5 (28:11):
That was an impressive finish and apparently the guy who
was about to make the tackle at the end and
couldn't had fourteen tackles in this camp.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Yeah, oh my.

Speaker 5 (28:20):
In overtime, Syracuse wins at number twenty five UNLV forty
four forty one. Syracuse four and one. UNLV had been
four and oh for the first time in its Division

(29:45):

he did return to full practice after a hip injury.
Kicker for the Cardinals, Matt Prater was limited today. He's
questionable with a sort knee, but Arizona tight end Trey
McBride is due to return and play Sunday after concussion.
In fact, Washington running back Austin Eckler will return to
play after a concussion. Padres pitcher Joe Muskgrove is out

(30:08):
for the year. He needs Tommy John surgery, so he
could miss all of next year as well. Musgrove had
missed time during the season with elbow inflammation. As ERA
over the last couple months was two point one seven.
This is a San Diego native who threw the first
no hitter in Padres history in twenty twenty one. That's
going to be missing from the rest of the postseason rotation.

(30:28):
Dodger first baseman Freddie Freeman did practice in LA today
despite the bad ankle. He says he's good to go.
He'll give it a go in this best of five
that opens Saturday night against the Padres on FS one
Division Series, and the game one pitching matchup tomorrow LA's
Yoshinobu Yamamoto against San Diego's Dylan Cease. Then Sunday nights

(30:49):
Game two will have Jack Flaherty, LA native against you Darvish,
former Dodger. The Mets will star pitcher Codei Sanga tomorrow
at Philadelphia to open their best of five Division series.
Game one will be on Fox TV four pm Eastern
Time against the Phills and Zach Wheeler. Senga missed over
two months with a calf injury, but back now. He
had missed time earlier in the year with shoulder and

(31:10):
triceps injuries.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
The Mets, of course, he is the complete and total
opposite of Chris Sale. That's right here now, Yes, Chris
Saale dominant all year, couldn't pitch last couple of days.
Code I Senga out all year and now here he
is starting tomorrow and.

Speaker 5 (31:28):
We'll see if he pitches like Chris Sale tomorrow. That
is to be determined. But the Mets in fact are
still alive, advancing with the four runs scored in the
top of the ninth Thursday at Milwaukee. The two American
League Division series each start tomorrow as well, Detroit at
Cleveland and then Kansas City at the Yankees. Yanks first
baseman Anthony Rizzo is out with two fractured fingers. The

(31:50):

a three year contract bless an option year. Francona had

Las Vegas still live after a home win over New
York ninety five eighty one. Vegas has won twelve straight

southern California one oh eight ninety nine four. Minnesota guard

Speaker 1 (32:37):

the two big college football games of the night, Yeah,
number six Oregon just dominates Michigan State with a thirty
one to ten win. Syracuse, as we said, holds off
UNLV in overtime.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
What do you got in the Ducks game? Harm Well,
twenty five seconds left. Jonathan Kim comes out, kicks forty
two yard field goal, thirty one ten.

Speaker 1 (33:02):

I'm catching for the Spartans, gos Car Sparty.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
That's what you talk talk about getting with your backers
right there, my goodness at Syracuse.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Six point Dogs come up with a win. Exit out
bout a Fresca exit Swollen Dome. The Jason smithser with
Mike Harmon, live from the tyrack dot Com studios. So
coming up next, we'll get into our other Look. The

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
See ty shirt. If you had said to me, Jason,
I have four words for you, don't you want me?
I would say, yes, you're right.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
I was gonna say I have three.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
But at the Tears for the Fears. Yes, it's like
that sounds like how my grandfather would say it. Hey,
I listened to this band called the Tears for the Fears.
They were really really good. Oh yeah, that's great pop,
that's great.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
I never heard the Tears for Fears.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
Yeah, I think. I think that's a thing like in
the older in the older generations where they always put
these in front pop. What movie did you watch? The
Dances with the wolfs? Oh? Oh, dances with Them?

Speaker 5 (34:28):
Well?

Speaker 1 (34:28):
Okay, all right, what was it about? Oh? Not what
you think? No, okay, Like these are real conversations I
had with them, the Good Fellas. It's just good Fellas.
I tell you what.

Speaker 4 (34:37):
I you know, you talk about your grandfather. I have
my my dad's mom. I wish I had audio of
some of the conversations. Very much that where there'd just
be that needle scratch moment of wait.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
What.

Speaker 4 (34:53):
We're really having We're having a conversation, and it just
took a really big left turn because I assumed you
knew what the hell.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
We were talking.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
Yeah, God bless her, the silence of the lambs. I
started doing radio and uh and all that, and she
would still send me, uh, collared shirts and ties.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Oh that's nice, look at that. Hey he wears shirts
and ties every day. No, no, he doesn't. He rarely
wears pants. I can't even get him to get on
pants that go past his knees. He's not gonna wear hard.
It was funny. Finally my brother sat her down.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
It was like, hey, you know this, this is just
a waste.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Uh so hey, big football Friday night, like obviously with
Syracuse winning everything coming up Smith, the mL the NFL
Slate on Sunday, the best games of the first game
in the last game, right. We talked about Pitt Dallas earlier.
We'll get to that coming up later on Justin Fields.
This is gonna be the week where Justin Fields is
the starting quarterback for the Steelers and there's no more

(36:03):
questions about it. But obviously the first game of the day.
Incredibly huge. And the first thing I want to say
about the Vikings and the Jets, what do you think
the NFL fields right now? Going man, We sent the
Jets and the Vikings to London. We sent Aaron Rodgers
to London so they could play at six thirty in
the morning. And oh, by the way, now, oh here's
Sam Darnold, who it's a great he's a great story,

(36:26):
maybe the story of the NFL the first four weeks
and the Vikings are undefeated and they have the best
defense in the NFL. And we got Justin Jefferson and
Sauce Gardner and oh my god, it's gonna be in
say no, no, no, we're giving that game to London.
Wait wait, wait, real they couldn't send the Colts and
the Jaguars couldn't say no, that stops up. Hey, you guys, stay,
We're gonna send the Colts and the Jaguars. Right, you
got Jets and Vikings. Stay here. You'll be the four

(36:49):
o'clock game, the big National Window game. That'll be great.
But we're gonna send the Colts and the Jaguars. Like rick, Really,
the end of this is the game the NFL is
sending them.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
Well, but I mean to be fair, I mean the
ratio is what one thirty one at this point, and
I'm not talking about thirty two NFL teams. I'm talking
about bad games that have been sent over versus one
that's actually greatly anticipated, like oftentimes like because look at
the following week it's the Bears and the Jaguars.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
Yeah, yeah, you know, I man, I'll be excited.

Speaker 4 (37:19):
I'll be on air, you know, talk with Bucky Brooks
about Actually no, he'll be working the game. So god
knows what happens in that hour. We'll find out on
Fox Sports Radio. But the idea of being that you
get to watch me and hear me lose my mind
for the first half hour of that. But on the
grand scale, is that one that people are excited is
coming over?

Speaker 3 (37:39):
No?

Speaker 4 (37:39):
I mean Bears fans travel, so they'll spend money on
beer and all. But otherwise no, No, that's not a
big anticipated game. But Jets Vikings, Yeah, London actually won
for once. They should celebrate.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
Hey, London, how do you feel I was that excited
because you gave us some meds and the Jets, but
it times out Mets and the Jets is actually pretty
good about that. It's a Mets of the Jets and
press Mets Phillies down there in the playoffs together. We
had that big play at the plate and now we
got the Jets. Mets a Jets are pretty good. You
sending the Mets the Jets every year, like who knew?
Like they probably said, let's just send the Mets and
the Jets. At some point, just send them, give them

(38:13):
the Mets and the Jets. We won't have to worry
about them for no. But now this is the year
Mets and the Jets. I mean, look at it this way.
You might've had a lot of folks stay. I was
really looking forward to the game until Zerline missed that
kick class and it figures the year that I go
to England, right, big trip. I go, not at the
time the Mets or the Jets are play, now when
they're playing in London. I go to England.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
It goes I mean, what are you gonna do? Like
you said, I mean, you gotta be here. It's football season.
It's a big deal. I had people reaching out to
me to go, uh next week, going come on, I
found cheap flights, we can go now I have responsibilities.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Sorry. Look, i'd love to say this game, this is
gonna be the Jets in a route and they're gonna
but you don't get well in London against the best
defense in the NFL. It's gonna be a hard game.
It's gonna be a game where the Jets get back
and the fan base is gonna be foaming at the
mouth to go get Devontae Adams. I'd want to be
great for Minnesota either. This is a reason why the

(39:10):
over unders is at forty and a half. Not gonna
be great for Sam Darnold. He's gonna come back to
earth a little bit. But the Vikings will do a
little bit more because I have more confidence their defense
will be able to dictate tempo a little bit more
than the Jets will. And you know, the star players
for the Vikings are gonna be able to make a
couple of plays here and there. So I'll take the

(39:31):
Vikings nineteen thirteen. Like I Look, it's a week where
everything is coming up smith right, So you know, I
really I don't. I don't feel great about the Jets
in this game. I think it's gonna be ugly. I
think it's gonna be very difficult, and I think I'll
take the Vikings nineteen thirteen, Jets twenty, Vikings seventeen.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
No.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
I love two goodys. Love it is.

Speaker 4 (39:51):
Getting after it one more play so Aaron Rodgers can
just smile and nod and wink and not have to
say a word in.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
His postgame exit out about a Fresca exit swollen down
the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon.
We got more NFL preview coming up next hour, as
well as what's gonna happen in the Big Division Series
in baseball? Who are our picks? How's it gonna go down?
That's coming up next right here, Jason and Mike Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
I think it'll be the Cleveland Browns.
