Speaker 2 (00:22):
Please give this you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Not tonight, though tonight the Mets drink the blood of
the Phillies who violence Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Oh wow, Jason Smith.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Show have been the Philadelphia Mike My best Friend. I
like Philadelphia violence, whole lot of violence Live from the
Tirack dot com studios. Tirect dot com help you get
there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirect dot com is the
way tire buying should be. Well things getting I don't

(01:00):
want to say interesting, but you raise your eyebrow a
little bit, like like a like a like a rock.
One point zero. The padres put two on. Nobody out
here in the bottom of the eighth inning. However, Blake
Trinon has gotten the last two batters out, including a
strikeout of Manny Machado who swings in a ball that
was about eight feet outside. So Dodgers lead the Padres

(01:21):
eight to nothing. Padres still have two on two out
as they bat in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Most likely we are headed to a deciding game five
back in Los Angeles.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Well, it would have been really cool, is if trying
it after the strikeout, did a moonwalk or a little
pair of wette around the mountain before getting back to
face the next batter. Maybe a dolphing of the cap.
I don't know, something like that. I'm gonna moon walk
my way by that'd be an agitator, I mean, next
level stuff. Two outs, bottom of the eighth A very

(01:51):
calm collected Dave Roberts. Theony just put up a graphic
on the FS one broadcast of him and Bobby Cox.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Yeah, going through their histories, we don't give Dave Roberts
the credit that he does. He's had a very Joe
Tory esque career managing a great team throughout personnel changes,
keeping them competitive. And that's what Joe Tory now obviously championships. Yeah,
but in a big market, with with with there's a

(02:17):
lot of variables, especially in this day and age. It
is different from twenty years ago when Joe Tory did it.
Dave Roberts doesn't get the credit that he deserves. Now
that being said, his job is on the line if
the Dodgers don't get out of this first round, uh
the NLDS against the Padres, He's probably gonna be replacing.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
Really thinking for.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Another energy, they just spent a billion dollars harm and
they spent a billion dollars to lose five to the
I understand your angston and the logic of it gonna
but I'm just sitting a gun.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
No.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, dude, it's not no way.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
There's no way. There's no way.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Uh wad He's not the guy that's you know, hitting her.
Look wait, he didn't give up the six home run.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
No, but it doesn't matter. But what are you gonna do?

Speaker 1 (03:01):
You're locked in for Glasgow, you're locked in for Yamamoto,
you're locked in for Otani. Not that you'd be making
any decision, but what else are you gonna do? Gotta
change the energy around the team. How did that we
change a manager? I mean that's real, that's really no again,
I understand the log how it goes.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
I'm just sitting there thinking the Dodgers are gonna crunch
the number and they're gonna say, who comes in that's
gonna be better.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Than this guy.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Yeah, they're not gonna find an answer. It's gonna say,
you know, there is no solution to this riddle. So
eight nothing Dodgers in the eighth inning. We'll have more
in this game coming up in a bit. But you
want to talk about about something illogical, right, this.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Is my favorite. This is my favorite part of the day.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
And standing out in the no, no, and no so far.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Hey, you know, I want to say, not a lot
of of of great news obviously, but you're looking for
positive news coming out of Florida with Hurricane Milton. Uh
downgraded to a category two. Yeah, so that is good.
Doesn't mean there's not a lot of devastation. The roof
is gone at the trap Uh. It's it's unbelievable pictures
to see. We talked about that last hour on the
show a little bit, UH when there was just a

(04:02):
couple of panels gone.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
Now the entire roof is gone. Well, I mean the
joke is in Tampa, they wanted the new stadium. Yeah,
well maybe not again.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
It this kind of helps accelerate some of that talk
on bond measures.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
It still one hundred mile an hour wins all our
thoughts with Florida and Tampa as they try to withstand
the effects of Hurricane Milton. Again, we'll continue to bring
you uh more on this story, but obays there are business,
sports and and and we roll on and before we
get to the quarterback stuff, I wanted to say this,
This is my favorite moment of the day. You talk
about things that are that that are a little bit different.
Is that the five watch the final out of the

(04:35):
Mets game. Okay, Diaz comes into the ninth and the
what did do? He walks to people, and I think
that I think that was the breaking point for a
lot of people with ed when Diaz where it's okay,
now I'm just done. I did Why can't we just
have a ninth inning where he comes in and goes one?

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Why do you have to do this?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
No, it's exhausting.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
So Diz gets the last three that it's pretty easy.
Like he he you know, he gathers himself and he
gets like he can't trust his slider, so he throw
up his fastball is one of the best fastballs in
the league. So he gets by. He gets by, gets
a couple of strikeouts. The game ends and DZ slams
his glove down and he does the big hero pose.
And normally what happens, everybody gathers around the picture, right,

(05:10):
Alvarez would come and jump in Diaz's arm. Everybody guys
around the picture. But watch the end of the game,
Daz does his pose, Alvarez comes to celebrate with him,
and then the camera has to cut because everybody runs
to Lindor Indoor. It's like, no one goes to DZ.
They all run to Lindor like, I've got enough for
your ride amusement park ride, DZ, blank you, I'm gonna

(05:34):
celebrate with the MVP.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
And they all they're all run run to Lindor to hug.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
And Diaz like hey, yeah, we did a great way,
and they come out. They're all party with each other. Look,
the Mets have a pretty good vibe. They're a team
that really enjoys each other and they love playing with
each other. That's really fun to see. It's not you know,
twenty five twenty six guys, twenty six cabs. So you know,
it's it's fun to see. But just that last moment
where everybody runs the picture. No, no, we're all running
to lindoor.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Saved the season multiple times, a couple of times here
in the last week.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
And remember this when he gave the speech, may I enter.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
I mean, think of the three the three biggest home
runs in the team's history have been hit in the
last nine days, and he's got two of them.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
We just think about.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
That sixty two game history.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
That is that.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
I mean, it's insane to think about that. Yeah, I mean, look,
the Mets have had been Look Benny Agbayani. We just
had the big anniversary of his home run in the
thirteenth inning twenty four years ago. Yeah, Robin Ventura had
that big, great but that wasn't a home But that
wasn't a home run. And I look, there's a lot
of similarities between the twenty twenty four Mets and the
two thousand Mets. There's a ton of them, and I'm
old enough to remember both of them. I've looked at

(06:41):
the Mets from both sides now, from my mid twenties
being excited, hey we're gonna do something here, and now
you know, in in my early fifties.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Like, are we gonna do something? We're gonna do something.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
You want to run some more?

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Joni Mitchell lines while but just but just think about Yeah,
I just picture Emma Thompson and love actually listened to
Joni Mitchell. But just think about that. They've had three
the three biggest home runs in team history, and he's
got two of them. It's a hell of a week, man,
I mean, I don't know. I have nothing left. I
need three days off before they play the NLCS and
tomorrow football.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Yes, it's gonna be Friday. There's a lot going on.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
I feel I feel like that. I feel like I'm
off for a few I need I need, I need
time off. Man.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
I'm stressing my aunts off watching games. Two o'clock in
the afternoon. I'm just sitting here on edge. My wife
knows not to talk a lot, because you know, it's like,
you know, just like when stuff's going on, just she goes,
do you want me to answer? I No, Sometimes I
just talk to talk. She knows my now, like I
just when I say, what the hell is he swinging at?

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Just let just let it go, Just just just let
it go, because if you say, well, the pitch obviously
thought is I know what he thought? I know, Judge,
what would you just let me say it?

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Just let me say, let me talk to the television,
Let me talk to the TV.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
Oh man, I'm having a communication moment. It's it's it's stressed.
It's so it's so much stress.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
But it's that fandom that we've been talking about, the.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Energy that flows through when the playoffs and the juice
kicks into a whole other level. All right, I mean,
we've got baseball playoffs where a couple of weeks away
from the NBA season, we're in the throws of all this.
You your football team just fired a coach. We have
I have no, I have no.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
We have to update the odds on who's next. We're
in Week six already, Bears are in London against the Jaguars.
I got, I mean, come on, I got the NLCS
on Sunday. I don't have time for this. This Jets
not Yeah, but I mean we got we got Dodgers
Padres game five coming up on Friday.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Months is gonna have to work? Yeah, sure, So the full.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Day of running amok for her. I mean, it's all
of this stuff comes together.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
But speaking of football.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Two big quarterback changes today to get to and I
have to say one. I'm really excited by one. I
want to say it's about time. Okay, okay, the Raiders
decide they're going to aid And O'Connell instead of Gardner Minshew. Right,
this was It's about time the guy. I told you
what I liked about him coming out of college. So
for a long time, like, okay, aid And O'Connell is

(09:07):
really good. Watch he's like a big he is really good.
I've seen him play a lot, trust me, Aidan O'Connell
is a really good quarterback. Now, it took him a while,
but the last month or so of last year he
was really good.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
Good.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
And then they come and they decide we're not going
to do anything with the quarterbacks, just we're gonna bring
in Gardner Minshew And it's whoa, how the hell are
you starting Gardner Minshew over aide and O'Connell I don't understand, right,
And they finally make the call today to go to him.
And Antonio appears today. He's not the rookie anymore. He's
walking around, he's much more vocal, he's much more you know,
he's a great teammate. When I told him Gardner Minshew
was going to start, he said, I'll be the best

(09:40):
Scout team quarterback possible, and all that stuff is great.
But I know Aidan O'Connell is talented, and I know
we can spray the ball around the field, and this
is going to be a pretty good offense with him.
It's gonna be much better than Gardner Minshew. This is
one of those it's about time. I don't know what
the Raiders were waiting for.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Remember he he actually got the tepid endorsement from Devonte
Adams in the preseason feel but it was, you know,
aid like he talked him up as much as he could,
but it seemed like, all right, so Aidan O'Connell will
get the nod, and then he doesn't, Gardner Minshew stinks,
and then Devantae Adams is pissed off.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
I don't understand how they decided we're going to Gardner
Minshew first, Like, don't you want to see what you
have in a young quarterback before you decide time to
go into the draft and get somebody else. I mean,
now you're gonna get to see it, because I'm sure
O'Connell stay the quarterback the rest of the year, or
at least until they know. We've seen enough of him
to know he's not our guy. So it's not like
it's gonna be a quick hook for him.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
But if he gets defeated behind that offensive line, I mean, wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
You do that?

Speaker 1 (10:36):
If you would, would for you're the Raider. I mean, Raider's
gonna Raider. But like it's it's overdue to make that move.
Don't know whether the Raiders don't ever bleep and win.
It's because they do stuff like this well.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
But they had the dopey preseason expectations that they might
be good, right based on all the energy that came
in with Antonio Pierce that we now realize and I
think most folks might have called called out even in
the off seasons, like.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
That's sustainable, that's carrying over, right, all.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
That feel good of the interim guy.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
Yeah, that usually works well the next year. And look,
he built a good staff. He's got a lot of
veteran coaches. There doesn't mean that the roster's any good.
You got a couple of isolated players who are top notch.
You know, you draft a tight end who looks like
he's the real deal. Your other tight end. Hopefully he's okay,
he's been away from the team. Jacoby Myers is a
solid player number two, but now he gets elevated back

(11:27):
to the ones. And he was pretty good with O'Connell
last year. You know, Oh, devont Adams was a lost
guy for a while. This was overdue now the other
big move because of injury. But I can't tell you
how excited the Saints fan base is to see Spencer
Rattler play quarterback now for the next few weeks, most
likely with Derek Carzo bleaken Saints fan who dat is

(11:51):
once this.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
Maneuver got announced today, which was you didn't really not
expect it. Here they're going to elevate the guy who
was a third string quarterback. He's gonna come in and
start now, like they want to see what they have
in him, and this is their chance to do it.
And this is a This is a quarterback who went
from he's gonna go one or two in the draft too.
He transfers schools and gets taken in the fifth round.

(12:15):
You know, the talent is there and and and the
Saints have some pretty fast wide receivers, so you know
that he should be able to spray the ball around
a little bit. But the bottom line is, this guy's
a fifth round pick. I'm excited to see him play.
But wow, see it seems Saints Twitter is like, hey,
oh we we just we just got Tom Brady in
his peak. It's like, I get that, you know, and

(12:37):
this shows you where they're done with Derek Carr, right,
And this is why I was not when the Jets.
When the Jets lost out on Derek Carr, what did
I say. I'm not unexcited about losing out on Derek
Carr because he's just a guy.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
He's a mid guy. He's he's a mid mid guy.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
And now everybody realizes that, and now it's oh, now
we have a chance to see a guy play quarterback.
You're excited about this. He's still a fifth round pick.
Do you expect he's gonna jump in the lineup and
be great?

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Now?

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Well, maybe he is, and I hope he is, because
that'd be something. Right.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
We know he's got all the tools, but I'm not
there's a reason why he went in the fifth round.
There's a reason why he was the emergency quarterback and
not the backup quarterback and now suddenly, well we have
no choice. We may as well see what he looks
like like. It's like Dennis Allen is grasping its straws, knowing,
I'm just gonna get fired if we don't have a
good year this year, I'm just gonna get fired. We're
gonna part wait and and and it's gonna be a

(13:24):
new coach and a new quarterback in here. So let
me just go and see if I can catch lightning
in a bottle. And if I do, hey, I'll keep
this job.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
We'll win.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Spencer Ratler's my guy, but he really this is like
a last gasp effort from a guy that knows I'm
gonna get fired, which something which happens when you go
from the highs of week two, Boy, look how good
the Saints are to three losses later. It's hey, we
need a new head coach, right, So that that that's
the That's the big thing about this move is that
this is the desperation for Dennis Hut. I get the

(13:54):
excitement to see Spencer Ratler, but I'm like, ah, it's
the guy. Is the guy?

Speaker 4 (13:58):
Really?

Speaker 1 (13:59):
I mean, are you expecting too much from him? I
get why it's a desperation to hail Mary. But wow,
I'm kind of more excited to see Aidan O'Connell because
I think I have a pretty good idea he's gonna
play better.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
I hope I'm wrong.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
I hope it's fun if we get a new star
quarterback in the NFL. I just don't know how that's gonnaea.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
I think when you look at Rattler, I mean there's
some in the history you go back to when he
was part of that Netflix documentary right Peter Berg directed it.
He was suspended, you know, cheating scandals whatever, Like, there's
just you know, a bit in the history that stands
out if you go through the bio. But you come
into an offense Dennis AND's got nothing to lose. He
was one of the leaders in the clubhouse for the

(14:35):
first to be fired. Obviously Solid beat him to the
altar there. But you still have a team that after
two weeks was on top of the world, and as
you said, they've come crashing back in dramatic fashion for
three weeks. Kamara giving you good efforts as a receiver
out of the backfield. He can't run the ball. But

(14:55):
if they're gonna let Rattler come in and just start
winging it around. Could be entertaining. Doesn't mean you're gonna
win a damn thing, but it could be moderately entertaining,
and maybe you find the answer so Derek Carr, you
can figure out a way to sluff him off to
somebody else in desperate need of a quarterback, because let's
face it, there's plenty of folks that are ruining the

(15:17):
day that they didn't go and say it's gonna cost
us how much for Joe Flacco?

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Boy, we really could have used to back up with
the situation we.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Had exit out about a Fresca exit swallowing dome. The

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Final in San Diego. The nlds now tie to two
games apiece. The Mets will have to wait extra couple
of days before they figure out who they're gonna play
in the NLCS is Game five coming back to La Uh.
The Dodgers nodding this up tonight with an eight nothing victory.
I were to tell you guys, in the historic of

(16:49):
the Dodgers franchise, in the history of the whole franchise. Okay,
this win against the Padres. Tonight was the larger shutout
win in Dodgers postseason history.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
But I know the Pagers really had the killer instinct
to want to close this thing out.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Like they would do that work. They won by This
is the biggest shutout win or just the biggest shutout
win and Dodger history nothing. Wow, And they've been playing
playoff baseball some one hundred years nineteen. This is like
nineteen thirty twenty five when they were the Brooklyn Robbins
when they were played Okay, all right, wow, what is it?

Speaker 4 (17:22):
Rodgers really sock?

Speaker 2 (17:25):
This is a historically bad podge.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Look, look, you you want a hot do you want?
I got two hot takes for you? And it's I
got two hot takes in one sentence. Okay, I got
two hot takes in one sentence.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
Is going to be better than the Aaron Rodgers clip.
I promised you a hot take. This is true.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
This is like getting send me Colon in there.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Come on, I'm going to get a piping hot waffle,
but it's gonna be also filled with chocolate chips.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
You know, if you want it, you know what my.

Speaker 4 (17:53):
Waffle recipe is. I can go to go to.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
IHAP saying can I get on for a fraction?

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Can I get a waffle with the Yeah? But but
I can sit and play on my phone and they
bring it to me. That's kind of like that. I
can I won't bring waffles to me. I can make
fantasy trade offers and they bring me the food. I
got a little waffle maker, I can bring it.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
We can make.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
Waffles in the back. Okay, all right, there's a pregame
meal if you're gonna do. If you want to bring
and make waffles, that'd be great.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
That's fine. Sure, But here here's your two hot takes
in one sentence.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
This is such an incredibly embarrassing game for the Padres,
and a game that Dave Robertchard hang on his wall
and say, this is a kind of Blanke and manager.
I am okay, this may be the best well, obviously
winning the World Series, but this may be the best
game he has ever managed in his Dodgers history. Right,

(18:45):
the stakes for this game. First of all, AT's super wagers.
Let's do the Padres. I mean, you come up, you
come out in this game in which you have to
understand we have to have the killer instinct and the
Padres looked like they that look. I always say, hey,
what do I know about baseball?

Speaker 4 (19:01):
Right? I mean I know a lot, but what do
I know about baseball? But I watched the.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Padres and they just didn't have the same body language.
They didn't have the same we are gonna do everything
we can. We are out to disrupt and win this game.
The fans were going crazy right every time that when
the Padres had two on, down eight nothing in the
eighth inning, the fans are going absolutely bananas in the ballpark.
And that really is something that Petko Kraft, that is

(19:25):
really something. But the Padres just didn't come into tonight
with that sense of urgency that we're gonna win this
game early. We're gonna we're gonna show where this is
a bullpen game for the Dodgers and we are gonna
win this game early, and this is how we're gonna
do it.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
And there was none of that. This is this is
a loss.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
If the Padres lose this series, they're gonna say this
is where we lost the series, not Game five, but
this is where playing at home with the Dodgers on
the ropes, and how do we come out with a
with a with a flatish kind of effort and and
and nothing. I didn't see any sort of We're picking
it up as the game goes on. Like the Dodgers
got out to the five nothing lead, and it was like, okay,

(20:01):
five nothing like that was it?

Speaker 4 (20:03):
Like like for the like that was it? It was like, okay,
five nothing.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
Doddres zero for nine with runners in scoring position. They
love to go deep into the box. Cord Dylan sees
can't get out of the second inning. Well, we talk
about and coming gone short rest and applauding that. Right,
guys want the baseball. Unfortunately, this is the negative side
of it, and there's something to be said for it.
Being a guy they didn't see him as often as

(20:26):
perhaps you might think being in division, he'd only pitched
against the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (20:29):
A couple of times. But that's enough.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
It's enough at bats and enough tape of it bats
that you can go back through and watch the sequencing
that you had against and the swings that you had.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
And so they jumped on it early.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Mookie Bets with the big home run and the emotion
that he got in the dugout as he got got
back was was off the charts. And for the moment
you neutralize that crowd and you can't say enough of
how they worked and pulled the strings. You had what
eight different pitchers, and the Dodgers get this game.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
And that's the thing.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
This is why I could say this is the best
managed game Dave Roberts has had in his career because
we always at the playoff Dave, he loves to go
to the bullpen, and it's not a Baseball playoffs if
we're not questioning Dave roberts bullpen management over the course
of the night.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
And being curious as to when the next one comes up?

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Right?

Speaker 2 (21:18):
But yeah, but you when at batch do you actually
get to base You.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Are coming off a Game three in which you lose
to the Padres and your entire season, the billion dollars
your team spent, and you're coming into a bullpen game. Wow,
that's a lot of pressure. And Dave Roberts kept a
lot of the pressure on himself. He was the only
one that really spoke. He talked about what he wanted
guys to do. He kind of challenged show Heyo Tani

(21:42):
a little bit. Hey, let's get a big game. You know,
I think he's ready to pounce on a mistake. Whoa
pounce on a mistake? What are you talking about here?
This is show heyo tani. But he still said that
last night. We talked about that a little bit tonight.
One for two, one for three with an RBI, two walks.
He probably would have had another run scored if not
for that crazy play with Manny Machado. So you have
him taking that taking the pressure on himself, which is

(22:05):
what the best managers do and the best coaches do. Hey,
when I feel like the pressure is there, I put
it on me so the other players don't have it.
And so the Dodgers come into this game and it's
a bullpen game, and you know, and you know, they're
saying to themselves, how are we gonna do this? The
Padres have our number, and we spent all these billions
of dollars, and it's gonna be a bullpen game. This
is what we're coming down to, right, the richest team

(22:27):
in baseball and we're throwing a bullpen game out of there.
And now the bullpen's been their strong point all season long. However,
when you're saying on the road for a clinching game,
you're trusting the bullpen, what are you really gonna get
Dave Roberts goes eight for eight in bringing the right
guys in to shut out the Padres. This is not

(22:49):
a bullpen game. The Dodgers won eight to seven, and hey,
a couple of relievers pitched really well. This was everybody
came in for just about an inning. I mean he
brought an eight pitchers to close this thing out. Now
near the end, when you're in the seventh inning, you're
up flat five nothing at seven to nothing, eight nothing,
but you're going you got You brought in Banda in
the second inning. Kopek, who normally has the eighth or

(23:11):
ninth inning, comes in in the third inning for an inning.
Phillips comes in in the fifth inning. Hudson, this is
a masterful move because what do I always say, You
keep going to relievers, You're gonna find the guy.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
It's not his night.

Speaker 1 (23:24):
But he had everything going right and he goes eight
for bleeping eight in guys coming out of the bullpen.
I mean, not only to have the right starter, you
bring in the right players along the way, and to
trust the relievers. You're only pitching an inning here. Let's
give everything you can. Let's get out of this inning.
Because the Padres had innings where they did have runners
on base, but every inning was somebody new. It was

(23:46):
It's like an All Star game, like every inning was
a new pitcher coming in and to go I think
about that. To go eight for eight like that is
like a that's like a riverboat gambler's dream. I'm going
eight for eight bringing guys in. This is the best
game Day Roberts has managed, because you're throwing all of
that pressure, the pressure for him personally, because he knows
if they lose this game, he's probably gonna get fired because, oh,

(24:08):
by the way, that's on top of all this Dodger season,
we could lose Padres bullpen game. He knows if we
go out in the first round, I'm getting fired. Everything
is coming down to this game because you know, the
Dodger are gonna want to make a change if they
if they wind up losing, and to have this kind
of game tonight, in this situation and now flip the
script coming back to LA, I mean, I watch We've

(24:30):
watched all the Dave Roberts, all the Dodgers playoff games
for pretty much the last decade. Right, He's made some
great moves. He's made some moves that are questionable. This
was his masterpiece. This is like, hang this one in
the louver. Eight for eight, Like I would have some
kind of of ring made up with, like the names
of all the pitchers from tonight. Yeah, game game four
of the of the LDS and twenty twenty four. But

(24:50):
I'm making sure I'm commemorating this someone.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
I mean, if you could print off a good giveaway
in forty eight hours, everybody, get those three D printers
going and give out little rings.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
Maybe they have a little whistle on there.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
I don't know whatever you need to do, but going
eight for eight just an amazing run, pulling the strings,
and even when the pictures got in trouble, it was
calm and you know you built the lead.

Speaker 4 (25:12):
And then it was the trust. You know you're gonna
pitch out of this and we're giving you this inning.
It's your innings inning to go get. And now you
you have your Dan Flaherty up. He was stretching at
one point, but now he's ready for game five. Yamamoto,
be ready for game five. And you didn't stretch any
of these relievers too much, right, Cob.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
And then you got a fine nobody went three innings.
Nobody went three innings. All this guy's likely out of
the mix for the next couple of days. Everything he
did work tonight amazing.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Now to just give it its context, going back to
the regular season, to tell you how effective they were,
right to put a little bit of statistics behind it. Uh,
the Guardians were the best, right clause. Who was magnificent
all season long?

Speaker 2 (25:58):
And we watched them.

Speaker 4 (25:59):
Up until until yesterday.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
I know, but I'm just going regular season. They had
a two five seven composite e ra A, the Brewers second.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
Until Devin Williams until Peter A. Lonzo came up in
the ninth inning.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Three point one one composite e ra the Braves three
point three two.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Until until they got knocked out in the first round
two by the Padres.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
Sorry about that.

Speaker 2 (26:28):
Dodgers were fourth.

Speaker 4 (26:29):
Now Dodgers were fourth, and who's.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Probably five to three get to the team right Ageather,
then the Tigers right behind it, and then way after
the Tigers, theny Yankees, and then after the Yankees the
Cardinals get to.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
The Phillies, where the Phillies get to the Phillips Phillies,
So they're uh, they're right in the.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
Middle, but they had they had four All Star pitchers.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
They did no USh, But it was one of those
things you know you watched in your series. You know
how it turns really fast. All of the regular season
doesn't matter. And Dodger fans have known this. We've talked
about it for years. Being here in LA and broadcasting
from these diiraq dot Com, Fox Sports radio studios, he's
surrounded by Dodger fans plenty amongst us today. But just

(27:10):
the idea that the regular season's great, and you celebrate
the ninety eight wins, the roller coaster, You wring your
hands when things are going badly, right, when the bottom
of the order couldn't hit bottom of the order, last
game was one for eighteen, right, All of these things
come together. But when you get to October baseball, it's
a completely new thing. It's like getting to the NCAA tournament,

(27:32):
getting to the football playoffs gone like it's a whole
other season. The NBA, the NHL, like they're completely different
animals as you have to approach each game. And Dave Roberts,
I mean, he's well versed. We watched it all season long,
pulling the strings because how many times. What do you
think the percentage was. We got to look this up,
percentage of games where you actually had a starter pitch

(27:54):
into the sixth, not.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Complete the sixth.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
I can tell you the last starter they had in
the postseason that way, Sandy Kofax, Max Schuzer, Wow.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
That's the last guy that got the last guy.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
And I know that, but you know what, but but
that's my point.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
Right, and even during this regular season, the number of
times Dave Roberts was out with the hook before the.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
Fifth inning ended. I mean, this is what.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
He's prepared all season for, right, You play how you practice?
Regular season was practice, and this was a masterclass game.

Speaker 4 (28:25):
That was the game that Max cried to Dave he
broke my arm. Oh that was.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
Exit up out of Fresca, exit swollen dome. I don't
think that's exactly how it went. Pretty sure, that's.

Speaker 6 (28:39):
Exactly how one day, just in that tone, dude, too
much boy, oh hey, hey, you know what, speaking of
speaking to Max Scherzer, you know, I'm abo to remember
last year and Max said, yeah, I was ready to
get traded when the Mets said they weren't going to.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
Compete next year.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
You just went full per I'm a joker over here.
You're not gonna compete. He didn't have a point. Grimace
came along, Yeah, Grimma. He did not count on Grimace,
who had a better year.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
Max sures are a Grimace grimmocere.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
Not gonna compete this year.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
The grand equity of the character of Grimace. I mean,
come on, I wear my Grimace flip flops out. It
turns heads. Man, they told me we're not going to
compete next year.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
You lie. He just told you that so they could
trade you.

Speaker 5 (29:43):
Max.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
They just told you so they could trade you.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
Monsy's a little afraid for Welcome to the playoff Baseball
twenty years make it, Hey, we made the playoffs two
years ago. It was just a really fast, fast appearance.
You would you wouldn't notice it. It's like like Brad
Pitt when he was an extra in all these movies
in the eighties, like.

Speaker 4 (30:06):
Back in the day.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
Hey, question, do you think do you think the padres
let Ken Rosenthal in the dugout after this game? Uh?

Speaker 2 (30:12):
You know, it's really sad though.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
I think they closed the door. Like leather Face when
he pulls that hits that first guy in the head
pulls him in and just that door just goes right down, Like, whoa,
what happened to that guy? That guy was right there
alive and now he's hit in the head with a hammer.
They pulled him in and that door goes down. Man,
they thought Dave Roberts was soft for for the whole
Manny Machado ball video thing.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Mm hmm. Yeah, that old really fall from your dugout.

Speaker 4 (30:38):
That's the softest crap I've ever seen.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
They Yeah, they deserve everything they get off of that.
That was just bush league.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Time now to find out what's trending in the widd
world of sports from Monci Belanos, who actually had the
under in this game.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
He did the overunder was nine and a half runs,
so no, no I The.

Speaker 5 (31:00):
Thing I also like, I hate these in dugout interviews
in the middle of the game, like can we not
do that?

Speaker 4 (31:08):
I don't know, you know, I kind of like those.
I kind of did do you do you like today?

Speaker 7 (31:12):
Because your mets one like no.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
I like him in every no no no I.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Over under was eight.

Speaker 4 (31:19):
Oh didn't really know that? Come on, go on.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
God, I did not.

Speaker 7 (31:29):
People think I'm such a gambler because of you.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
You know that.

Speaker 7 (31:34):
Divisional series when your parents and they.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
Go, I know you're just gambling your money away, Moncey.

Speaker 4 (31:39):
We're not gonna help you.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
You just gambling your money away.

Speaker 7 (31:42):
No, my dad would be like, I'm in let's go.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Yeah, he's in ten bucks.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
You got to get video of this.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
You go to your parents' house and you go video
of you saying I'm sorry, I need the TV and
you just take the TV.

Speaker 4 (31:56):
And it's what happened.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
I trust me.

Speaker 4 (31:59):
I got a sure thing and you just take the TV.

Speaker 7 (32:01):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
Yeah, first at.

Speaker 7 (32:03):
First I was into this, and then I was like,
I'm not carrying no TV. I can't carry a TV.
Ets are heavy, they're bigger than me.

Speaker 5 (32:10):
All Right, fellas all a teams in action today for
Divisional series Wednesday. They've all wrapped up the recent one,
All Dodgers against the Padres a.

Speaker 7 (32:18):
San Diego aid zero a complete shutout. I agree with
you guys.

Speaker 5 (32:23):
Great game by Dave Roberts managing that bullpen, which has
been one of our stronger suits throughout the season. So
there will be a Game five in LA between the
Dodgers and the Padres. On Friday, the Yankees held on
to defeat the Royals three to two, So New York
now leads that series two to one, and the Tigers
lead their series two to one after shutting out the
Guardians for a second game in a row, coming out

(32:43):
on top today three zero. And then the fourth game,
I can't remember what happened in the fourth game. Oh right,
the Mets one, that's it, punching their ticket to the NLCS,
beating the Phillies four to one, Francisco Lindor with a
grand slam in the win. Now, let's move on a
little to the NFL forty nine Ers tight end Jorge Kittle.
He is off the injury report. He will play Thursday
night against the Seahawks. NFL media reports at the Texans

(33:06):
have placed wide receiver Nico Collins on injured reserve because
of his hamstring injury, while ESPN reports that cold swide
receiver Michael Pittman Junior is expected to miss several weeks
with the.

Speaker 7 (33:15):
Back injury that could land him on injured reserve.

Speaker 5 (33:18):
Anthony Richardson he was limited in practice today, and running
back Jonathan Taylor didn't practice because of his high ankle sprain,
but Eagles wide receivers AJ Brown and Devonte Smith were
full participants in practice today. With Derek Carr's recent oblique injury,
the Saints will be starting rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler on
Sunday against the Buccaneers, and the Raiders announce that they're
going to be starting Aid and O'Connell on Sunday against

(33:39):
the Steelers. Wide receiver Devonte Adams not expected to play.
New York Giants pass rusher Kevon Thibodeaux suffered a fracture
in his wrist. He had to have surgery earlier this week.
Head coach Brian Dables says that he is week to
week back to you guys.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
Now, wait monthsie, I got a question here from someone.
Jason sends a tweet, Hey did the update? I mean
Moncy Belanio's just say she's the starting pitcher for the
Dodgers Friday night.

Speaker 7 (34:03):
Absolutely not all right, absolutely, I'll be there.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
Kids say she had to work Friday.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Okay, you're not working here, you're working there.

Speaker 7 (34:12):
I actually am working here at five am.

Speaker 5 (34:14):
Oh okay, finish that like whatever, and then I'm gonna
run to Dodger Stadium.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
All right, very good, full day.

Speaker 4 (34:21):
Well good if you're learning what a work ethic is
really like.

Speaker 7 (34:24):
I do that all the time.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
It's not like radio where we show up to you
and work like three four hours a day. No, No,
you're learning exactly what it's like.

Speaker 4 (34:32):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, what is life? What is sleep?

Speaker 7 (34:35):
One day? One day I'll find.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Out, thank you, Yes, coming up next, got a big
story out of the NFL from today.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
You're right here, Jason and Mike. This is Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Then
sure as who told everybody last year they would interview him.

Speaker 8 (34:59):
No, they told me they're not going to compete. I'm
okay with the train. They're not going to compete this year.
You're just having so much fun with that.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
That's the best. Yeah, because you know what, because I'll
take time in a couple of days to go, boy,
to get to the World Series.

Speaker 4 (35:17):
It's it's the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
And then the Yankees or you know, I'll worry about
that in a couple of days. I't worry about that
a couple of days. Boy, this is now it's gonna
get It just keeps getting tougher, man, it just keeps
getting more difficulty.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
Man, Yeah, no, it's crazy, all these games, all the energy,
the excitement, you and we can only imagine losing your
mind until that home run.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
Oh, the the Lindor home run. He hit it, and
it was just like a lonzo. I stood up and
I screamed, if.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
You're down one nothing, the frustration's gotta be mounting because
you've had opportunities. We're you've also pitched out of a
number of bad circumstances. At that point, it's like, all right,
so now we're at this one nothing. Is this really
all I got?

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Is this how we're gonna We're gonna lose one nothing
and go back to Philadelphia for Game five with Zach Wheeler?

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Is that really how it's gonna be?

Speaker 3 (36:08):
That inning heading into the Grand Slam, he's one of
the oddest runs. Umpires stunk like he was clueless. But
then they're throwing the ball in the dirt. There's another
wild pitch. Here's another wild pitch. Get behind in the
count and grooved baby and.

Speaker 4 (36:25):
Bam, and I gotta said this.

Speaker 1 (36:27):
I want to apologize for Nick Costeanos, who who said
before Game four today, the Mets don't want to come
back to Philadelphia for Game five, Nick, We're gonna have
to decline that invitation and see you at Citizens Bank
Park probably next year at some point. So I'm so,
I know you wanted a host a, but we have
this little pesky thing called the NLCS.

Speaker 4 (36:47):
So I know you were. We didn't really want to
come back and play, but we'll see you there next year.
It's okay, It's okay, Nick, You're all good.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
If you have any messages for Jason Smith on his
advancement too the League Championship Series, you can find him
on Twitter at how about a Prescott?

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Do you want to send him my way?

Speaker 3 (37:01):
I'm at Swollen Dome, happy to relay them to my
best friend next.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
To me here.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
We have one game today in the NFL on Sunday
that now is easily the game with the most drama,
and surprisingly it's the Raiders and the Steelers. Fig we
talked about the Raiders having the quarterback changed today to
Aiden O'Connell. Davante Adams is not going to play, as
the Raiders hope to look to trade him. But the
big thing we're gonna see because now is as as

(37:27):
as as Russell Wilson now magically is.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
Back at practice.

Speaker 1 (37:31):
Right, what did we say when Justin Fields has a
couple of bad games in a row, that's when Russell
Wilson will magically be deemed okay to play. Right, of course,
you can see it. But upntil that point, they're gonna
protect Russell Wilson. And the first of the bad games
for Justin Fields, unfortunately was Sunday against the against the Cowboys,
and it wasn't a bad game. He didn't play badly,

(37:53):
he didn't cost him the game, but they lost, and
it's two losses in a row. So now if he
has another off game in which he doesn't lead them
to victory and have a you know, and put thirty
five points on the board, the Steelers it's just no
matter how much they try, they can't not want to
scratch that itch of Russell Wilson. And if Justin Fields

(38:13):
has another okayish game against the Raiders and they lose,
Russell Wilson's the quarterback next week. I thought Fields would
seize the job for certain on Sunday against the Cowboys
the rain. It didn't happen. Look, it didn't happen. It's
not his fault. The offense is terrible. They don't have
any receivers. Naji Harris is just a guy running the football.
But if this happens again, the Steelers and Mike Tumbell,

(38:35):
they can't help themselves. It's like, we gotta get run.
So they're gonna put Russell Wilson out there, who is
not gonna be any nearly as dynamic as Justin Fields.
They're gonna put nine points on the board, and they're
gonna go, why do we go to this guy? But
trust me, they'll go to Russell Wilson.

Speaker 3 (38:46):
Now, looking at the U the football equivalent of a
shot chart and the passes that Fields has been able
to complete.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
He's making the throws.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
And even in that game against Dallas, well they didn't
put the new points up on the board. The number
of passes that just got flat out and dropped. Now,
every quarterback is subjected to that, but when you're playing
on the margins like the Steelers are, you can't pin
that on the quarterback. Right, you're playing to the first
to twenty wins style of play that Arthur Smith is running.

(39:18):
And if George Pickens is disengaged. Guess what you have?

Speaker 4 (39:21):
You don't even have a number two receiver on your
roster right now.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if by Sunday morning
we're finding out that Russell Wilson's under center.

Speaker 4 (39:31):
Ooh, you think even before next week?

Speaker 3 (39:33):
I don't even think it needs to get to that point.
I think he he's ready. I'll be on air Sunday
morning talking about the Change.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swalling down the Jason
smiths Or with Mike Carmen Live from the tirec dot
Com studios. Coming up next, we get back into the
biggest story of the day and night, keeping the ear
Jason Smith, Mike Carmon.
