Speaker 1 (00:27):
Hello, Welcome inside, Happy Friday, The Jason Smith Show with
my base friend Mike Harmon, Well dressed Hobo live from
the ti rack dot Com studios tirac dot com. I
hope you get there at unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommendedents to allus.
Tiraq dot com is the way tire buying should be. Well,

(00:51):
here we are Game five of the NLDS. Well the
me just waiting to see who we're gonna play. It's
it's fun right now. We have just seen a big
home run by ta Oscar Hernandez. He has doubled the
Dodgers lead key Hernandez going deep earlier in the game
bottom of the seventh The Dodgers lead the Padres two

(01:13):
to nothing, and the Dodgers aspect of this in a second, Mike,
but obviously, look, this is the big game happening right now. Yeah,
and the Dodgers seventeen to seven. Yeah, the Cats leading Maryland. Congratulations,
you're beating Maryland that dogs. No, No, it's it's it's
good so far. It's good for me. It's it's good.
It's good. It's pins and needles in the City of Angels.

(01:36):
I gotta be honest, and this is this is one
of the pitfalls of what happens when emotion guides you
a little bit too much. Right. The whole thing with
the Padres the last couple of years has been, boy,
it seems like they take every game personally and it's
the World Series every week. We've talked about it. You
can't play that way, you can't sustain it. But for

(01:58):
a short series like they have against the Dogs, yes, absolutely,
And the first three games it was we're gonna do
whatever the hell we want. We're gonna dance in front
of your fans. We're gonna steal home run balls away
and pretend we didn't catch it. We're gonna be upset
when you throw at our guys, and we're gonna nearly brawl.
I'm gonna throw a baseball at your manager.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
We're gonna plan a guy from the dugout because he's
told me a peacock.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
It was the Padres saying we're gonna do whatever you
want because we know how to get under your skin.
There are still the Padres, still have six outs in
this game. But this is hell and gone from the
Padre team just two games ago. They look like they
are just ready for the offseason, and they've looked like
they're ready for the offseason. Going back to Game four,

(02:39):
they looked like they're at bats against the Dodgers in
the bullpen game. It was not good. They didn't have
the same fire. It just this is not the same team.
I look at this. If if you didn't watch anything
and you watched the Padres play two games ago, and
then you watch nothing else and you put this game on,
you would say, this is not the same team. This
is not the same guys. These are the guys that

(03:00):
are that are completely trying to just swing at everything
they see. From every Dodger pitcher, starting with Yoshinoba Yamamoto,
there doesn't seem to be the plan. There doesn't seem
to be the electricity. It just looks like a team
that is going through the motions, and the Dodgers are
the team that looks like we want to win, we
want to go on, and we want to be playing
on Sunday, hosting game one of the NLCS. This Padre

(03:22):
team is absolutely unrecognizable from two games ago and stunning
like over the course of the regular season. I would
get it if, well, hey, they were riding on emotion.
They had a couple of walk off home runs, and
they look unbeatable, right now, I get that. Then you
hit skids for a little bit, right you work things back.
But in the NLCS, when you're a game away from
knocking out a team that you can't stand and that

(03:43):
you are, you are foaming at the mouth to do this,
And this is the kind of effort you're getting. I mean,
I get the Dodgers are good, but everybody they've thrown
out there the last two games is not given up
a run. And I don't mean it's like two or
three pitchers. You're going on twelve people, Mike, this is
like twelve people the Dots are throwing out there, right,
we had eight guys.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Last game, you saw what they did beyond the second inning.
Going back to Game three, right, I mean, that's how
long it's been since the Padres scored and played at
a run.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
And it's not like the Dodgers pitching.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
They're striking guys out, they're putting malls in play, they're
just not getting anything on it.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
They're not getting good swings.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Y'a.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Momoto finished his five innings and he was brilliant. Gives
up two hits.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
He only had two strikeouts in his sixty three pitches.
He threw thirty nine strikes. That's an awful lot of Hey,
we're getting a little deeper in the count where we've
got an opportunity.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Instead you're getting weekly hit balls.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
And Phillips comes in, does his one and two thirds,
dominates crowd losing their minds as he exits for Vessia.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Just amazing.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
And Darbish had himself a great outing except for well
two pitches.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
And that's the mark. That's the margin. That's what we're talking.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
About here in a series controlled by so much emotion
early that now it's just puckering up on the Padres
side of things. I mean, then ti Oscar Hernandez home run.
I mean that wind up took fifteen minutes and then
he just sat on it and hammered it and all
you saw was a sea of towels or whatever the

(05:15):
giveaway was today.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
I don't know if their towels or shirts.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
But either way, Yeah, going all the way back, remember
remember that six run inning and how it just seemed
like a tidal wave of emotion from that dugout and
the taunting and everything, even the Dodgers furious comeback. It's
had nothing and they've been absolutely flat and gutted ever since.
And to your point, we're talking twelve different pictures. I mean,

(05:40):
at some point you figured there would have been one guy.
That's one guy just began to just one guy that hey,
it's not my day.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
No anyway, I think the Dodgers could start bringing people
from the stands to throw it, and they would put
zero's up. What was many art could come in from
behind the well.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
But they had the one inning where they did get
two runners on, but it didn't feel like a threat. No, right,
even on the telecasts it said they got that first
the first out of the inning. There doesn't seem like
you're still within the double play ball and what do
you know, boom inning over? Yeah, I mean, look, and
it's really something because as you say, you Darvish has
pitched out two pitches, right, but he has pitched outstanding today.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
He has kept the Dodgers off balance again. Two into it.
The first pitch to Key k Hernandez where you know,
Key k Hernandez was hunting it and he hit a
home run to asker Hernandez here, And that's really been it.
He has kept the Dodgers off balance. And this should
be a game where hey, the Padres at least dent
the board a little bit. But I mean, anybody, look
the look look right now, Dave roberts is walking behind

(06:41):
the home plate. He is grabbing a guy who's about
seventy years old. He's coming into pitch next inning. Everybody
can get the dot and the Padres out. Every single
person can.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
It's a mainly had one at bat with a runner
and score scoring position today to tease that was it.
Otherwise it has been a masterclass once again again Dave robertson.
They put it up on the telecast right five and
two in winner take all games, and right now his
team coming up big keyth a Hernandez. He was doing

(07:10):
a lot of yapping before this game. Right want the moment,
I want in and right now he's the he's the difference.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Waving decent waving after he hit the home run.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Hey, but like the last last forty eight hours, he's
been the guy talking it up.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Right.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
We talked a lot about the Otani emotion the last
month and a half, two months of the season. Starting
to see like a different temperament. The bat flips the
you know emotion on second after stealing a base, and
Keith k Hernandez said, hey, show, Hey, I got you.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Now it's up to It's time for Game five. It's
my turn. This is what I do. And they said,
what is it?

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Won every thirteen postseason it bats for him, as opposed
to one out of every twenty seven at bats home
runs in his career.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Going to the top of the eighth now Dodgers with
a two nothing and I'm I'm going to shock you, Mike,
because I'm gonna do something for the first time. We've
been doing the show over ten years together. Now I'm
gonna do something I have never done before. Let's go.
I am changing my mind on a take I am
changing my mind. I am changing I am changing my

(08:18):
mind in the course of twenty four hours because there's
a new information. No no, no, it's not one of
those hey things have happened. No no, I am changing my mind.
I know what I said last night. I know this.
I know I remember I thought of I thought. I
know what I said this, I know what I said.
I know what I said. But now I don't want
to play the Dodgers. And your vocal inflection was absolutely perfect.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
There you were like a five year old that was
just told, Hey, we need to go see the dentist.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
I don't want to go. Can I get ice cream?
Can I have ice here's ice cream. I don't want
ice cream. I want cookies. I don't I don't want
to play the Dodgers. Now, look, this shows you about
about how emotions can change over the course of one series.
But the Dodgers go into Game four with their backs
against the wall, and here they are now game five.

(09:14):
You can tell how badly they want it, how amped
up they are. And it was the other night. You
could tell that in a in a series which had
been ruled by emotion, the Dodgers pulled back and I
give them so much credit because for three games the
Potters do whatever they wanted to. When I say game one,
they can get under the Dodgers skin and they're doing it.
The Dodgers can't let this happen. Max Munsey says, they're

(09:36):
getting under our skin. It's like Max Munsey listened to
the show Congratulations. If the Dodgers went, I should get
a ring. But like the way they have just flipped
that switch and said no, we want it. We know
what October is all about, and and it. They are
now back to being a really dangerous team up until today.
Obviously Mookie Betts has been red hot. Freddie Freeman is
back in the lineup. Yeah, I don't want to play

(09:57):
the Dodgers now, wait, way the bullpen's going. I know
I want. I want San Diego to win so I
can play the pottery.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
No, I understand it's a uh you're in a glass
case of emotion right now because you're seeing, uh, the
way this goes. And obviously still long term curiosities about
starting pitching. But Yamamoto stepped to the plate. We've it
stepped up to the mound, and really I mean stepped
up to the plate.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Is the old adage. Uh?

Speaker 3 (10:27):
And really and put it on the line, because there
were a lot of questions, right, was he tipping pitches?

Speaker 4 (10:32):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (10:33):
Is he one hundred percent from a physicality mentally? Where's
he at? And and I know all the detractors are
already out there, how could you pay this guy this
kind of money? And maybe he doesn't start. It's like
there's a million factors going on here. You have no idea,
and we're never gonna get one hundred percent of the
truth had he not taken the mound. But he really
answered all the critics everybody wanting to see, you know,

(10:55):
after his performance earlier in this series, you know, the
Intestine old fortitude in a big moment, you got the
all Japanese starting pitching matchup. So certainly for the last
twenty four hours, I mean you want to talk about
a headline. I think I saw that more than anything
else today. If I had a nickel for every time
it showed up in my timeline, I'd be a very

(11:17):
wealthy man. But he showed up, and he bowled out
and his teammates had his back again. Only two strikeouts
in his five innings, Jason, that's a lot of opportunity
for the Gloves to come to work, and the Dodgers
responded in full force. The crowd of the energy. I
can only imagine what some of our Dodger friends are

(11:39):
feeling right now. None of them are answering any texts. No, no, no, no, no. Well,
I wanted to show some love because you know me,
I love me some ta oscar.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
I'll tell you man. You know Michael Kopek coming in
now for the Dodgers Whites to start the eighth inning.
Look at that. Look at look at the White Sox
denting the postseason. Yeah, yeah, yeah, We're all over the place. Man,
We're making big strides here. You have guys that used
to play for us that are still playing. We're very
excited about this.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
I still hate this lighting thing that everybody does now.
I think it's dopey.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
But look, but make no mistake. You talked about Dave Roberts.
There is one person that has will save his job
with a first round win, and that's Dave Roberts. Because
I couldn't see there to be anyway if if the look,
the Dodgers could still Loseadres still have two winnings to
go here, but they have to can't be dead from
the neck up batting like they've been. But Dave Roberts

(12:28):
is the guy because it's so you can't just say, hey,
we spend a billion dollars in the offseason and we
lose in the first round again. Uh, you're locked into
all the players. You're locked into a lot of ways
of doing things. Dave Roberts would be the guy, right
or wrong, who is going to be the change because
there need there would need to be some kind of
change for the Dodgers if the Dodgers hold on, if

(12:48):
this game continues to go as it is, he has
saved his job getting into the NLCS. Here's where we
should be. Do we avoided the first round of the playoffs.
We're in the NLCS again. I think that even if
they lose to the Mets, even if that happens, Dave
Roberts will stay the Dodgers manager because the line well,
because I gotta say, because one of two teams is

(13:09):
gonna win, right, I mean, one of two teams is
gonna win. I know one team. The Mets are the
favorites right now. You know why, because they're sitting around
and waiting. They're the only team that's in right now,
there's only one team in there, the favorites.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Right where are they though? I feel like they're on
a beach somewhere.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
I feel like they're all at the airport, like and
they're all like watching airport TV and they're going. Boarding
for San Diego has been delayed for forty minutes. Up
boarding for Los Angeles. We'll be out of here in
a half hour, and they're going, and Carls Wondez's going.
Just nobody leave, nobody go too far. Like when you
have a class, try, nobody go too far. Go to
the bathroom in pairs when you come back. Well, nowhere

(13:45):
we're gonna be flying. We've got a plane here and
a plane here. But just everybody stay together, all right.
If you need to go, go in twos and pairs
of the bathroom, be back here ten minutes. Okay, I
don't want to go looking for anybody. Ten minutes. Let's
come back here. Go with your chaperones. They'll be able
to take you where you need to go.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Yeah, we're gonna find out really quickly, you know, Dave
Roberts to further the point and and punctuate it. You know,
your guys Saala got fired this week. Something had to give, right,
and obviously Woody Johnson decided that just changing out the
coordinator and play calling responsibilities was not a big enough shift.
Dave Roberts is a far more successful and accomplished version

(14:23):
of that scenario.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
How dare you know Dave Roberts and Robert Sala in
the same sentence, how dare you have no right? I
have no time for the Jets, Shenet Wiggins right now?
Put that, Hey, put that in. There's my hot take.
No time for that accomplished Robert Salah.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
In other words, the head coach, the manager, that's the
head that roles. We've talked about it all the time.
You can't fire all the players, as much as.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
You may want to at times.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Right, even with your Jets, there's part of you whatever
part of that pie chart, what ever part of that
pie chart was like, just send.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Rogers away, bye, pie chart.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
But we knew that wasn't gonna happen given the investment
made in him. Ergo, it is Noll now on his
shoulders and he has to play Atlas. But for Dave Roberts, look, man,
they just put up the graphic as Copek took his
first pitch on the Fox Telecash fifteen Pitchers twenty two

(15:26):
scoreless innings. I mean, this is the puppeteer of puppeteers.
Where's my artistry? Where's my ai? Dave Roberts with the
puppets up the strings, Let's.

The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
live from the ti rack dot com Studios. Bottom of
the eighth inning, the Dodgers will go to the ninth
with at least a two run lead. They are batting
right now, leading the Padres two to nothing. The Podges
will have three outs to tie the game, take the lead,

(17:24):
or the Dodgers are headed to the NLCS. Well, they
will host the Mets. Actually, whoever gets to host the
Mets stop can't play that. Nope, can't play that. That
is that is patently not true. That is patently not true.
It is not true. It's not true. Jason.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
When's last time you won the big trophy?

Speaker 1 (17:42):
We're in the NLC at nineteen eighty six, We're in
the NLCS. Okay, when were you board nineteen ninety?

Speaker 3 (17:52):
The other thing, Smith, I mean, you know it is
the day of atonement for our Jewish colleagues. Do you
think Frostburg atoned enough? And that's why getting this adobe right?

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Well, no, the thing is, I will I loaned him Grimace.
You yeah, I loaned him Grimace. Yeah, no, no, here,
Well here's the thing. I loaned Frostburg Grimace for this
game against the Padres. In return, Otani plays for the
Mets in the NLCS. Soa, that's the trade. Yeah, that's
a terrible trade. Yeah, that's what we need miked up

(18:25):
Forget about all these other jokers. You let's go uh
so again going to the ninth inning to now, Dodgers
get Padres, get out of the inning to nothing, going
to the ninth We'll have more in this game coming
up in a few minutes. Steve de Seger will tell
us more than what's trending. But we have a huge

(18:45):
day in college football. To get to nothing bigger than
number two versus number three takes a big game like

College Footballnews dot Compete. What's happening? Bud?

Speaker 4 (19:17):
All right, I'm gonna ask you a question that's really
sort of a Tuesday afternoon topic for all theny local
sports radio. But I'm curious considering you where your allegiance
is live. Do you are you jaded enough at this point?
Like I'm in the world at the world where to
me any team I kind of root for. All I
care about is they get to the championship. After that's

(19:38):
kind of gravy. What do I care. They're not paying
me money, so I'm just watching a product who cares.
But I wanted to see them moment. I want to
see them get to their shot and if they win
great if they don't, would you rather have the Mets?
Are you better at? If they're gonna lose? Would you
rather have them lose to the Dodgers or to the Yankee?

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Oh no, no, no no, I can't lose to the Yankees.
Cannot I cannot lose the yank No no, no, no, no no
no no no no. Well you got to realize, Pete,
his dad's a Yankee. No no, can't do it. Can't
do my whole life, can't do it. The Dodgers will
be tough enough, you know, living, you know, but we
beat the Dodgers in twenty fifteen.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Okay, wait, are you out there turning double plays? Were
you're that big Pete person?

Speaker 1 (20:22):
Pete, the Pete. The mental attention I have put into
the Mets for my life, I am absolutely allowed to say.
We I know lots of players. Sure.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
The mental attention I put into my latte every day
from Starbucks is just as much. And I'll call it.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
We know it's not. I think way more about the
Mets and you think about a latte. Come on, man,
that's apples.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
And o.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
Here.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
You don't.

Speaker 4 (20:49):
I'm telling you on that yet. This is the fun time,
you know, like this is this is it. You know, obviously,
you know when you're a sports fan, even this is
why it's kind of silly fun, it's okay, and you
know this is why you watch especially baseball. Again, I've
told go for you guys before. I literally watched like

(21:11):
eleven innings of baseball year, every pitch of the playoffs
because it's fun. Now, this is cool. This is a
good playoff sport, especially with the pitcher box. So I
get it. I get how much fun?

Speaker 1 (21:21):
All right, So let's kick things off tomorrow with you.
I'm sure you're gonna wake up for the big newd
kickoff and have a big latte ready to go. Uh,
we're gonna have to wait a little bit, but we're
gonna get the big game Ohio State and Oregon. And
I'll tell you what I know. Oregon's at home. I
know Ohios had to fly across the country peat. But
Ryan Day doesn't lose these games. It's it's the Michigan

(21:42):
and the playoff games, the middle of the season regular
season games. Ryan Day and Ohio State do pretty well.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
At Yeah, and I'm gonna pre transition to probably the
next topic.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
First.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
This is a little weird that we're not waking up
to Oklahoma Texas. That's just that's just the game again
on a Saturday in middle October. That yet, that's the
one that starts it off, that sets the tone for
the day. I'm kind of mad that's a mid afternoon
game now, But to your point, yeah, it's the late game.
I can't be preaching the gospel for the last eight
months like I have without and ditch my belief system now.

(22:14):
I don't buy Oregon. I just it's cute, it's fun.
They've got an awesome mask, got an amazing sports information department.
They just troll like no one else. They're outstanding. But
when it comes down to this tippy cappy thing that
they do their little bank dunk offense and hopefully gets
yards after the catch, that's fine. It should work for
a while. I do think they'll get out to a

(22:35):
little bit of a lead on Ohio State. But I
am just a pure believer that this Ohio State team
is so much better than just about everyone else. I'm
still buying Georgia. I'm still buying Alabama. But this Georgia team,
you know, it's got the Fort's got Chip Kelly is
there is there an offensive coordinator each be the head
coach of Oregon still, I mean this his team is

(22:58):
just at a whole other level. I can't keep being like,
oh Ohio States is be all end all and then
pick against them now. And even if they lose, even
if this Oregon rises up and pulls this off and
everyone wants Ryan Day fired, I'm still thinking Ohio States
comes back and runs the table from there, because they're
just that good. But I will be shocked if Oregon's

(23:19):
offense just cranks it up on this.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
Ohio Stated another top twenty five old miss and LSU
LSU we remember, loses the opener to USC, rattles off
four straight wins, including the uh the great UCLA Bruins.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
How good is this team?

Speaker 4 (23:36):
Do you remember last year's game when it was Jade Daniels,
It was like the nineteen eighty four Denver Nuggets versus
the Spurs, where it was.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
Like in the third quarter, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 4 (23:49):
These two had a total tackling optional game last year
that was just awesome. I mean they literally could not
hit anybody and it was a blast. It was as
much one is it gets if you do not care
about defense a little bit better this time around. But
I think LSU has been kind of underappreciated, kind of
forgotten about after the USC loss. Uh, this is their

(24:11):
chance to kind of rise up and be like, yeah,
we're still in this but ole miss the high outen
offense worked against kind of you know, the Jedi mind
worked against the weak minded. But now it's gonna do
a little bit. It's gonna be there for LSU, but
not enough. I think LSU pulls this off.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
Pt Tech College Footballnews dot Com insider our guest the
Jason Smithson with Mike Carmon live from the TIREC dot
Com studios. All right, hey, let's get your red River.
At least that's somewhat early in the day, Texas and Oklahoma.
Does Oklahoma have enough regardless of whether it's Chris Sims
or Major Applewhite who plays quarterback.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
For the.

Speaker 4 (24:50):
Exactly Rick mckiver out there with exactly Jameel Holloway coming.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
Up, but w there we go.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
I love that, man.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
I was I remember once you want a great Jamelle
Holloway story my favorite because I was like they made
it up like when he got introduced like on senior
day for oaklhom playing his final game was like in
the rain somewhere and it says and now a man
who was voted the best option quarterback in Oklahoma history,
I'm like, that's a thing, Like, that's the thing that best. Hey,
Jameel Holloway, congratulations everybody.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Well think about it. Back then it was, I mean,
because that's back in the day when you did have
the wishbone and they did run for a million yards
a game. That's kind of what they did. But yeah,
this is again I joke because actually I'm mad because
I'll tell you this little inside Baseball. As a website publisher,
there are no photos better than the noon like sunshine splashed,

(25:46):
you know, Cotton Bowl with those two teams and the
optics on every photo. Those are goals when it comes
to publishing you know, articles and stuff, and I'm hoping
we get a little bit of that. But still, this
is one of those kids. I'm gonna go every cliche possible,
throw out the record books because we've seen everything. We've
seen really really bad Texas teams rise up and beat

(26:07):
Oklahoma a few years ago, that Charlie Strong team. We've seen.
You know, Texas have this thing in the bag that CAITLYB.
Williams comes out and decided, no, I'm you know, introduce
myself to the world. Now you have last year where
Texas is great, great, great, great great, and all of
a sudden they just get to play defense at the
very end and lose and then go on to win.
You know, the big twelve year, the Tacho ball. So

(26:28):
this thing goes in all sorts of different directions, so
it's seeing most unpredictable rivalry possible. I do think this
is going to be relatively closed. Oklahoma still hasn't shown
enough of an offense, and I do while I'm not
buying Texas, Texas is my Oregon bucket of teams, I
don't buy. I do think Quinney was being back who's
being way underappreciated because everyone loves ARCHI many because he

(26:51):
blew away Texas San Antonio and Louisiana Monroe. Uh, we
were gonna come back, have a sharp game, and they're
gonna pull away late, cover very late, but it will
be a pretty good fight for a while.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
Pete Feujeck our guest the unmistakable voice of college Footballcollege
Footballnews dot Com, where you find him. He joins each
and every week. I'm sending him a bucket of caffeine
as we speak to get him through.

Speaker 4 (27:16):
And you way ahead of you.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
Well, I'm gonna get advanced, you know.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
I gotta get an advance of next week's game at
Pete Feu Tech where you find him on Twitter. It's
the Jason Smith Show with My Garment here Fox Sports Radio,
Pete USC Penn State. Penn State a three and a
half point favorite, fifty one tickets as low as sixteen dollars.
Are they going to see a USC upset at home?

Speaker 1 (27:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (27:41):
You know, I go Wall Street on you here, hated
it at five and a half, love it it's three
and a half. I was I think Penn State wins.
I thought, you think USC keeps it close. I kind
of was hedging a little in the thoughts during the week,
and then all of a sudden, the line dropped a
little bit. So I do think Penn State is just
good enough. I have friends in the business who swear

(28:04):
this Penn State team is about to be exposed at
some point, really really badly. I'm still buying their defense
is just too good. And USC, you know, I know
they got hosed in that Minnesota game where they didn't
actually have a shot of the ball crossing the goal
line and manned a PJ. Fleck get bailed out on
that call. But they're going to hang around just enough

(28:28):
at home and then start to buckle lake. The Penn
State defense too good, but it'll be one of those
wins where Penn State wins. But we're still not all
that in press file.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
He's on Twitter at peach few Tech. That is at
peak fu Tech. Everything you need at College Footballnews dot com.
You're one stop shopping for everything college football, previews, analysis,
everything done by our guy Pete. Enjoy, Enjoy the games
this weekend. We'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
Absolutely, go Padres.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
All right, well a somebody want to tell him TJ.
It might be a little late for the Padres. This
is because it is over at Chavez Ravine. The details
we'll come to you from special delivery Steve to Seger,
who's got that with what's trending right now, Steve, the
Mets finally have an opponent. Before you tell us how

(29:16):
this game ended, talk about what the Mets are thinking
right now going into the series.

Speaker 5 (29:21):
We don't have to bust to San Diego.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
That's what they're thinking. Right now.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
They're gonna fly into LA tomorrow. The Mets are traveling
to southern California open an NLCS Sunday night on Fox TV,
with Game two on Monday afternoon. The Dodgers, top seeds
in the National League, will host LA. Has just eliminated
the Padres two nothing in Game five of the best
of five It's just ended on Fox TV their NL

(29:46):
Division series. This was the definition of a great pictures duel.
You Darvish was sensational again except for two long solo
homers to left. He came out with two outs in
the seventh inning that stood up for the two to
zheing LA final. These two teams tonight, at one point
combined to retire twenty six straight batters, which is the

(30:09):
longest set streak in a single game in the history
of the playoffs in Major League Baseball. And what the
Padres have just done, how they were eliminated this week
has never happened in a best of five series. No
team had ever led two games to one and then
literally failed to score in the last two games. Not
just lose, failed to score. They hadn't scored since early

(30:32):
in Game three this week, when they put up the
sixth spot in the second inning that night, and it
stood for a close victory. The padres I believe it
was their last. Nineteen hitters tonight retired and against the
Dodger staff mostly relievers. This week, twenty four consecutive scoreless
innings from La just astounding. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was the starting

(30:56):
pitcher for the Dodgers and the winner. He went five
scoreless innings. Since his shoulder injury in early June, he
has not pitched more than five innings in a game.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
And the bullpen Evan.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
Phillips, Alex vessis San Diego native who had to come
out due to injury, Michael Kopek, and then Blake Trine
and by the way, Peter Schrager kudos to him from
NFL Network for finding this. After Copex strikes out a
padre To and the eighth on one hundred and one
mile an hour fastball, he finds this headline from East
Texas High School Sports a decade ago. The headline reads

(31:31):
white House is Patrick Mahomes baseball headline Mahomes Outduel's Mount
Pleasants Michael Kopek with a sixteen strikeout no hitter, who knew.

Speaker 1 (31:45):
Wow, man, I think he threw a couple of pitches
behind his back too, just because he could.

Speaker 5 (31:50):
That's right, the old shovel passed.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Hopefully, Travis Kelcey was the catcher in that game. People
don't know that.

Speaker 5 (31:58):
Yeah, but then he slumped in a course. Fox News
blames somebody for something. Tomorrow's Game five in the Ale
Division Series, Detroit at Cleveland, when's moved up to one
pm Eastern time due to impending rain. We've got college
football on FS one right now, and they've started the
fourth quarter with Northwestern still ahead at Maryland seventeen to
ten halftime. UNLV trying to go to five and one,

(32:21):
leads at Utah State forty one to seven. And they've
just started with sixteenth ranked Utah at Arizona State. And
Utah's star quarterback Cam Rising is back in the lineup
tonight after a finger injury. Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis
will start on Sunday after a shoulder injury. And among
the four NHL games tonight, it was a win for

(32:42):
Tampa Bay for one at Carolina. The Dodgers have eliminated
the Padres two nothing. In Game five, Mets in southern
California Sunday night for Game one of the NLCS on
Fox TV.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
Back to you, O, thank you, Steve. We'll have more
college football on the way. Thanks Beefy Attack for joining
us here. But yes, the celebration is on at Dodger
Stadium where in the And I'll tell you what the
division Now that we have division champion hats, which is
so weird, but those division champion twenty twenty four the
stretch snap, they look pretty sweet. The black hats with

(33:16):
the team logo in the middle in the twenty twenty
four those are pretty sweet lids. Man, I gotta say
those are pretty Did you get ears yet?

Speaker 2 (33:23):
No?

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Well no, I have to pre order. Like it's like,
oh yeah, hey get this hat? Great? Oh but yeah,
but it'll ship next week. I'm like, it'll ship next week.
The NLCS is gonna be Oh why would I want
a division hat when I would want the nationally? Come on, man,
you can't just give me a pre order on a
division hat. You got a division that's ready to go. Well,
does what's it got on?

Speaker 3 (33:42):
I mean obviously that the front of the hat is clean,
does it Does it have a patch for the division
or is it.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
I think it. I think it says it on the
bill there. Yeah, I think it says it on the bill.
I mean, and I don't know. I mean, LeVar Ball
could be shipping these things out. I would never get
you'll never see it. But these hats are pretty sweet.
And now we know METSA who knew that? When I
went to the Mets Dodgers game that fateful Sunday when

(34:08):
the Dodgers shut out the Mets ten nothing and Otani
hit a home run that I was, Okay, next time
I'll be back at Schevez. It will be for the NLCS,
the Mets and the Dodgers Sunday night, Monday afternoon. Let's go.
Which one are we going? Let's go. We'll see, we'll see.
I have some irons in the fire. We'll see where
we're going. We'll see what. We'll see what we got.

(34:29):
We could potentially do both. Potential is there for both games? Well,
the potential is certainly there. Yeah, we'll load up on
the caffeine. Okay, Well, okay, why here, okay, okay, okay, No,
I'm not bringing a drunk Mike Harmon toil. You know
you're not going. No, No, I said beer. You just
said beer. Why we just said, are you saying disappointed
when I said cafeen beer? Well, no, no, no beer,

(34:53):
I'm thinking no. Okay, listen, okay, okay, you're not You're
not twenty two. We go to we go to the game.
We have to go and just be cool. Okay, you
can't go and and oh your sons a blank and
he can't. I got no dog in the fight.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
I'll just be sitting there watching the activity and watching
you lose your mind.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
You can't, we can't do it. What happened? Harmon passed
out in the third inning. He had coffee but not
enough because then he had beer and now he's out. Yeah,
he's done. Well, I'll be carrying scale back the other way?
Can I borrow that Dolly? Dodgers and the padres to nothing.
The Dodgers with the final victory in the series, and

(35:33):
they get what they need. They win the last two games,
and now show Haotanian company headed to where we thought
they'd be the beginning of the season. So what to expect,
and we'll make our big pick for Game five in
the ALCS that's coming up next right here, Jason and
Mike and I'm still okay with playing the Dodgers. I'll
tell you why. Next. This is Fox Sports Radio Padres Nothing.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
Game five of the Division Series comes down to this
tryning against Fernando Tatis Junior.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
Here's the pitch, Tati swings.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
Chopping a third be can't pick by Hernanes. There's the throw.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
Hain't that do? In Broady?

Speaker 4 (36:15):
Fireworks go off and straight away center field as the.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
Dodgers shut out the Padres. Getting back to.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
The back games, they are going to the National League
Championship Series.

Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon live from the Tirech dot Com studios where
champagne is flowing in the Dodgers clubhouse. They advanced to
the NLCS, their first NLCS since twenty twenty one. National
League Championship Series open Sunday at Chevezravine Mets and the

(37:02):
Dodgers at the ALCS. Will be settled tomorrow, a game
that was moved up eight hours because of weather. So now,
which is good because now you know, Guardians and Tigers
fans don't have to worry about sweating it out all
day waiting for the game to begin. Hey, we're gonna
start pretty early.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
Yeah, psychologically that just the waiting is the hardest part.
I mean, tell Petty had it right, man.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
Don't have to worry about it. Die, I could wake
up and watch the game. It's great. But the Dodgers
will be the favorites. They should be the favorites, number
one seed versus the number six seed. But I'm gonna
tell you this. I'm gonna tell you this. What am
I afraid of? What could the what could possibly happen?

(37:46):
The Mets are gonna see and go through they haven't
already what kind of adversity. I shouldn't say this because
now it's gonna happen. But the Mets have seen everything
in this postseason and there's still two rounds left to go.
They have seen their season look like it was over
in the regular season. They've seen it look like it
was over in the postseason. They faced a team with
the best closer in the National League. They faced a

(38:08):
team with the best bullpen in the National League in
All Stars and guess what. Guess who's standing. I don't
see anything the Mets are gonna face that makes me go,
oh boy, we're coming into this as a deficit. I'm
looking at this same we're coming in. We're going toe
to toe. There is no reason to say, boy, the
Dodgers are loaded. Look at what they're doing, because the
Dodgers have issues. Man, I look, it's been great the

(38:29):
last two games. The bullpen has been unreal for them. Right,
Yamamoto was terrific, The bullpen was great. But it's not
like I'm seeing a team that this is not a
Dodgers team where look, there's no holes anywhere. You know,
pitching's gonna be a thing. And the longer you go
in the playoffs and the longer you go in a series,
when you see the relievers, it's a better deal for
the team hitting. And there's nobody that the Mets are

(38:51):
gonna see in this series that's better than what they
saw in the last two series and in this season
at the end of the end of the year. So yeah,
I feel really good about coming of this series. If
the Mets lose, it's not gonna be because ah, we
were a little timid and and and clearly the better
team on the other side. No, it's gonna take They're
gonna have to do everything they can to beat the Mets.
And I feel pretty good about our chances going in here.

(39:13):
I love I'm not going in this thinking, hey, ah,
maybe we went this far it's great. No, no, no,
I'm coming here thinking it could be the World Series
the week after this. Look at you.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
I love your positivity and excitement. Yeah, obviously more variables
you add to the equation. It's been something we've been
preaching on the football side of thing, and certainly major
League Baseball, when we talk about the rise of this
new era of quick, quick hooks on starting pitching, that

(39:44):
eventually you're gonna run out of luck, that one guy's
gonna be I mean, Steve's had the stats of what
both teams did here and turn what was it, twenty
six straight batters without a hit, and you know, the
tension building overall, and we talked about the Dodgers and
just how any scoreless innings?

Speaker 1 (40:01):
What is it?

Speaker 3 (40:01):
Twenty three? Now, I mean that's just insane. Twenty three
or twenty four. After this game, I lost track because
you know, I had to add a Northwestern touchdown.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
That got me excited when I went to write it on.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
I write it down, but it's it's just that idea
that eventually you're expecting one bad outing and it's a game.
It's the margin, isn't there right to where we're not
looking at blowouts? That eight to zero Game four is
the outlier. Everything else is contested, you know where. Yeah,
the ten to two got away, all right, so two

(40:33):
games bad. Otherwise we're looking at pitching and bullpen management
as you go through.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
You know. Also, Otani was playing long toss today. Yeah. No,
it's just kind of thrown it out there for you.
Sure that's okay, all right's fine.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
I'm finny because they could turn the lights off and
all of a sudden he's on the mound like he's
the undertaker.

Speaker 1 (40:51):
Well, if they turn the lights off when he pitches,
that's what I'll be worried about, because I don't think
we'll hit him if the lights are off. Is it
a globe ball? Then John Paul morosips by to take
a look ahead, and what we just saw it is
a big night that rolls on next on Fox
