(00:49):
we watch the Yankees go up two games to none,
now over the Cleveland Guardians. They take Game two six
to three, and is a weird feel of this series
compared to the NLCS. Right, we'll get to a big
football trade in a second. But the NLCS, we watched
the Dodgers play an incredible game in Game one, right,
then we watched the Mets come back and play an
(01:10):
incredible game in Game two. For the ALCS, we watched
the Guardians play two bad games game one in game two,
and we watched the Yankees play almost as bad games
in game one in game two.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
The level of play tough man fielding has been awful.
A tough watch got a great start yes yesterday from
rodn in Game one, and the Yankee pitchers had the
Guardians batters flailing. But yesterday it gets defined by four
wild pitches. Right, that's it. That's that's the tail of
(01:47):
the tape of how does that happen? How is there
not a quicker hook? All of those things, and then
today base running gaffes on both side. Your dad will
be texting you about Aaron Judge's home run before it's
all said. Very now, my dad's very happy, you know.
But for both the games in the National League's here,
he's like, all right, here's the biginning, yeah, and here's
(02:09):
a lot of baseball act yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
I mean, look, it's it's the innings.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
The innings of the NLCS are just so much more
nerve racking than watching the alsays like Okay, someone's just
gonna make a mistake, Like that's kind of how I
feel like the Guardians are gonna make mistakes. The Yankees
are gonna make mistakes, but make a couple less of them,
and they're gonna hit the ball just a little bit
better because this has not been a great first two game.
If I'm the Yankees, I'm doing backflips after these first
(02:35):
two games because I say, we have another level to
get to and we're up two games to none. You're
the Guardians, you're pissed off because it's boy, we played terribly.
We're down to ZIP and now we gotta go home
and try to win three to get back in this series.
Anything less than that and this series is over. It's
probably over anyway, because teams get up to zip, they
wind up winning the series.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
But for the.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yankees, it's more of, hey, this is last half. We
haven't even played well yet, and we're up two zip
five and the Guards are throwing up on themselves five two,
six three.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
It's but that's the thing, it's the fundamentals of it, right.
Sometimes you get out pitched. Sometimes you just have one
guy who's the bad bullpen guy, or your starters off.
As we've talked about a lot dealing with you know,
the way the Dodgers have had to pull the strings
through all of this that eventually you're gonna find that
one thing that you can take. What you can't take
(03:21):
is drop pop ups, base running gas, going to scoop
a ball up and giving up an insurance run, you know,
late in the game as the runners getting held. And
that's what you saw with the Guardians today, and that
was obviously before the judge home run put. They gave
them more distance, but it was still just the idea
of these little gaffs are you know, it's it's a
(03:44):
bloop and a blast, right if you keep it, keep
it close, it plays soccer hockey, whatever, it's one or
two pitches and all of a sudden you're back in
the game. Instead you're giving away runs either either on
the base paths for bad decision making trying to press
or the fielding mistakes are really the ones that are
just maddening. Like I wish we'd just had a camera
(04:06):
in the dugout to get the line reaction, not the
five seconds or ten seconds later, because I always keep
it on the fielder as he's all right, so we
get a fifteen second late. No, go back to the
actual reaction in the dugout on a drop pop up,
or when you go to bare hand a ball to
throw it back in and you leave it on the
field to give up another run.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
Yeah, bad baseball.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
So a lot more on this, John Paul Moross, You're
gonna join us from the Alcs coming up later on
this hour. But two big NFL trade today, back to
back bang. You woke up and saw DeVante Adams was
a Jet. First of all, let me say I am
from the future. I said last night a couple of
times on the show. If he's at a Jet by Wednesday,
I'm stunned because the way things went, they had to
(04:49):
make this move, right, They had to do something because
you fired the coach a jumpstart the season. You had
another miserable loss last night.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
What do you do?
Speaker 1 (04:56):
I mean, you're gonna run out of miracles at some point,
but you had one more. I always thought Adams was
going to be a Jet, and he turned out to
be a Jet today. And they didn't have to pay
as much for him. It's a third round pick and
they're gonna spend the pay the money for his salary. Hey, awesome, awesome,
moved by the Jets.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
I did like all.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
The memes that started going around after these trades though,
the idea that everybody's now just afraid of the Drake
May era. Yeah, Drake May, Yes, we're all doing it.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
And yeah, and the Dolphins got Bob Greasy back. So
right after this goes down, which tells me that the
Bills were in at some point on DeVante Adams.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Yeah, because we heard.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
That potentially this Jets trade with the Raiders was agreed
upon last night and it was made official today. Would
make sense why everybody was around.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
To DeVonta Adams is hanging out with Aeron on Pat
McAfee show.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Uh, So it would make sense there. But the fact
that the Bills made a move so fast tells me
they were in Adams. They were in a wide receiver,
and they make a deal today to get Amari Cooper.
And I love this because it's guts that they didn't
need to show and they still decided to do it.
(06:14):
The Bills are coming off a big win over the Jets.
They're in first place in the AFC East. Everything is fine.
The Patriots stink the Dolphins. You know when they're gonna
win again over a good team, because who knows if
two is even gonna play and the Jets have all
kinds of problems. You just beat them. You have a
two game lead. You don't need to make a trade.
General consensus would tell you, hey, we're feeling pretty good
(06:35):
right now. We figured stuff out. We have a really
good running attack. Right James Cook missed the game, doesn't
matter if Davis had a big game. All right, we
know we can run the football. We can throw the
football enough too. We move the ball on the Jets
defense enough where Josh Allen could do Josh Allen things.
We are able to incorporate more designed runs and more
off script runs for Josh Allen, which is working. We
don't need to make a move. We're good. We feel
(06:57):
good this And still they went out and said, let's
go get a wide receiver because we need a number
one receivers. As much promise as Khalil Shakir holds, as
much promise that you think Curtis Samuel's going to get
involved in the game, as much promise you think Dalton
kin Kaid has.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
This is just the Bills offense, right. They struggle a
little bit too much to score points. Everything is a
little too there's no easy scores. There's no, Hey, this
drive was five plays. They completed a long pass. Everything
is down the field.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
It's ten plays, it's twelve plays, it's using James Cook,
it's the ball out of the backfield. They needed to
get a little more dynamic, and they went out and
got a superstar receiver over twelve hundred yards the last
two years, which they needed to do because they tried
it for a while. Maybe we don't need Sefon Diggs.
Maybe we can work out without him. And certainly you
can say it's a case of addition by subtraction because
(07:44):
so far, results wise, they don't miss Tofon Diggs, but
moving the ball the future of the team, how far
they want to go. This year, they needed a number
one receiver and they didn't have to do it, and
they still went out and got the next best guy
in the market in Amari Cooper.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
And it was great.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
And that's why I love it, because they didn't have
to do it, but they said, screw it, we're going
in the Jets.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
It's kind of easy. Well, we're alling on the season.
Joe Douglas wants to.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Keep his job. Jeff Albrick wants to keep his job.
Aaron Rodgers wants to keep playing quarterback. Hey let's go
get DeVonta Adams. Yeah, when you're desperate, you go do
those things. But the Bills didn't need to, and they
still went out and got a Marii Cooper And that's
why I see.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
I think they still needed to.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
I desperate, No, but that they's still that lacking component
because it's one thing to say, hey, we're going to
be a playoff team and we can win this division
and we can roll through. But it was still going
to be a lot on the heroics of Josh Allen
and his athleticism as much as a runner as a passer.
So to get a true number one in for the
(08:41):
costs that they did in the Cleveland side of it,
we'll get to, which is long complicated, and I'll just
they're just a badly run organization, is the nice way
to put it right now. But for the Bills, I mean,
you named all of those guys. None of them are
difference makers. Right, They're good receivers and David had a
great game, one hundred and fifty total yards. You can
(09:04):
run on the Jets. I think we've decided that that
is the case. All right, Cook doesn't play so you
have a two headed monster that you were able to establish,
and he'll leak out and maybe they can line him
up at wide out at points a little like they
did yesterday, that you'll have that opportunity. But to go
get a number one now Shakir now Coleman like the
(09:24):
same principles we're applying to the Jets side, where you
slide down in terms of pecking order and opportunity. Maybe
the number is lower, but the success rate will be
higher based on needing to pick your poison. Same thing here.
You know, the efficiency with Shakir was certainly there, even
with safon digs a year ago, where we saw the
(09:45):
completion percentage he hooking up with Josh Allen was immense.
So now he gets back to drawing secondary cornerbacks and
different coverages. When you bring in a guy like Amari Cooper,
and I think a Cooper a guy that there's been
enough headlines between his time with the Raiders and in Cleveland.
That guy's just eager to win, and we watched him
(10:08):
perform well down the stretch last year when given an
opportunity with an efficient quarterback. I think I heard the
stat that of the pass attempts that it went his
way this year. I think like the complete completable pass rate,
not what was completed, just completable i e. In a
catch radius was like fifty five percent. So that means
(10:31):
Deshaun Watson is misfiring forty five percent to where it's
not even in the catch radius.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Crazy.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
So that said, well, there are questions and haven't been
questions about the accuracy of Josh Allen through his career.
That's improved immensely. He's not thrown an interception yet this year.
He's taken care of the football. So I think for
the bill.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Ten touchdowns thrown for ten times.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
So you could say, hey, do we really need to
upset this to go get it?
Speaker 4 (10:58):
No, let let's go do it. Let's you want to go,
but you want to go get it?
Speaker 5 (11:01):
Right?
Speaker 3 (11:01):
You're playing for January, right, Everybody was talking about the window,
and look, I don't think McDermott's all that right. He
he made some boneheaded coaching decisions that gave your team
immense opportunities yesterday to come and steal that game.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
If not for zer line and the red line. What
happened with zerline? What happened? He uh is not good. Nah.
It turns out he was actually fixing the game for
the whoa whoa.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Allegedly, yeah, he said, listen, did he do that in
London for the books?
Speaker 3 (11:33):
He said, remember remember an eight man out when when
the when the whole thing was tell Secott to.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Hit the first batter off the fixes?
Speaker 1 (11:40):
It's yeah, And then Rostein comes in and says, see,
mister Rostin, I won't be staying long.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
Raf hit by a pitched ball advances the first.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
That he leaves like the thing like, hey, if I
hit the upright you know the fixes. Did he win
the crossbar challenge though? On that thirty two yards?
Speaker 4 (11:58):
I say this allegedly allegedly leged.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
No.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Look, if the the.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Bills are still the Bills and Josh Allen is still producing,
he's one of the He's in the top five as
far as quarterback rating goes, He's he's in the he's
in the lower third of the league when it comes
to overall attempts and yardage because that's down a little bit.
Because the Bills realize, Okay, we tried the pass happy
thing a few years ago for a few years, and
(12:26):
it got us so far. Now we have a really
talented running back. We have a couple of talented running backs.
Let's take advantage of that. And let's get back to
more where we're running the ball and Josh Allen can
throw it or run it, and we're back to He's
back to being the guy that he was and we
drafted and that and that and that has worked. And
that's why that's why the guts so much is that
(12:47):
you see all these things like what's not working? Like
you can look at say what's not working? Well, well, nothing.
What do we go at a receiver? Well, boy, we've
we've tried to bring up key On Coleman, he's our
first round pick. We've tried to elevate Khalil Shaki, we
want Dalton k We drafted all these guys, brought these
guys into be different things. You heard Sean McDermot say
we got to get Curtis Samuel the ballmore and they
still don't get him the ball more. It's like, okay,
do we really want to go upset this? And at
(13:08):
six games in they said, yes, it is worth it
to go do it and forget. It doesn't matter what
you give up because you give a third round pick. Okay,
I mean, Amari Cooper is terrific, Dallas cave him up
for a fifth round pick, but anyway, you give a
third round pick for him. Okay, but now you're saying, Okay,
all these other guys you spend time with, you're all
sliding down a peg. Now you're you're all getting the
ball a little bit less. You're all not and and
(13:29):
Amari Cooper is our number one guy, And you know
that there's gonna be a little bit of growing pains
because they're gonna feel like they have to get him
the ball, not to the extenus to find bags where
if you don't throw me the football, I'm gonna pout.
But you didn't go get Amari Cooper for him to
catch three balls for forty nine yards. So there's gonna
be that growing pains of, Hey, we have to get
him the football because this is what we want the
(13:49):
offense to do. So you've taken that guts of getting
a guy when he didn't really need to, knowing full
well this could adversely affect your offense until you get
him acclimated.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Yeah, the quote from the first two weeks of Josh
Allen are truly going to be tested. Remember the Everybody
in the room just wants to win. Everybody wants team
You want to talk about testing that theory. This will
be a beautiful way to do that. Exit out, but
a fresco exit swollen down. The Jason Smith Show with

How about home Off?
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Live from the Tireck dot Com Studios. We have more
NFL coming up in a few minutes. Look back at
the biggest trade of the day. But the Yankees take
a two games to none lead over the Cleveland Guardians
and the Alcs. Is it over for Cleveland? Are the
Yankee He's going to the World Series? What about tomorrow?
Is it a must win game for the Mets with
(15:05):
us now in the Hotline from the ALCS MLB Network
insider extraordinaire was on the call tonight. Kind of a
fun deal tonight we had your call up on the TV,
John Paul, John Paul Morosi with us right now.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
What's happening, buddy.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
I'm doing great, my friends. Thank you for tuning into
our data cast on True TV for the American League
Championship Series. It's been a lot of fun getting into
some numbers and some storytelling with Mike Petrillo and Dexter Fowler.
So thanks for watching. And we saw tonight Aaron Judge
get going and as Mike Petriello told us, this is
(15:40):
actually my favorite note of the night. That was the
highest fastball in terms of the height of the pitch
that Aaron Judge has ever hit for a home run
in the stat cast. Hero, how about that He's got
a lot of home runs, but never on a fastball
that high. Wow.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Well, I don't know what pop more.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
That's stat or your shirt's Salmon's shirt was a good
look tonight, John.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
Paul, Thank you, it was It was Samon. I got
it from Stton Liberty, my favorite store in an arbor,
and I wanted to wear it on National TV. I
think it looked all right. I'm glad to hear that
you liked it. And it's interesting because we've been talking
a lot on the show about you know, it's not
as formal of a program, so you can be a
little bit more relaxed, more casual. So we were joking about,
(16:26):
at what point in time would I arrive to the
show without wearing a blazer? Now a lighter, lighter blue
blazer with a salmon shirt. I felt like, was that's
about as It's about as like dramatic and chill as
I'm ever going to be. But we'll see. Maybe I'll
show up in a hoodie tomorrow and what we'll see,
we'll see if I can take my chances.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
I like it the the change of tone and demeanor.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Right, did take measure how high the ball got hit,
because that thing just kept drifting like I was sticking
Major League right, it's too high, it's too high it was.
Speaker 5 (17:02):
It was more than one hundred feet in the air.
Stat cast had that as well. It was great. There
was actually one animation that we did that had the
entire path of the ball and it looked like the
Demon Drop roller coaster at Cedar points. It was unbelievable that,
by the way, is a very strong regional reference for
those of you who are from the great very strong.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (17:24):
So I thought in general, look that the Yankees, they
wobbled a lot there in the fifth inning when Cole
really struggled with his command, and the Guardians had a
little window to get back into it, but they just
could not hold it. They could not get the really
big hit when they needed it. And listen, there's still
plenty of time left in the series. I don't think
(17:45):
the Guardians are in panic mode yet, but they have
got to play cleaner baseball. That they gave up an
under and run first inning of the game, and you're
just not going to be able to win ball games
against the Yankees and you get them extra outs, extra
ninety feet outfield defense was an issue you for the Guardians.
It was not a textbook performance from Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Well, John Paul, I know you want to hear this.
If the Yankees run the bases like this in Game three,
four five in Cleveland, maybe the Guardians can get back
in the series. I know you've asked, you've heard about
this John Sterling call. We're gonna play it for you.
So you can hear just what he thinks about the
Yankees and there inopportunistic base running tonight the O.
Speaker 6 (18:25):
Two a bouncer and Rizzo is gonna be picked off.
He's in the middle between second and third. Hedges now
throws to second on the way to third, back to second,
back to third, tagged out, end of inning. Boy, if
that wasn't the Yankees, that's that's what they do. Run
(18:46):
the bases like drunks.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Hey know, run the bases like drunks. John parmer Rossi analysis,
Uh so.
Speaker 5 (18:54):
I'll say this, that was not how I chose to
describe that TV data cast. I'm I'm not going to
say which one of us made the more iconic call
of that moment. I think John probably has me by
a fairly wide margin. Though that was a very interesting
(19:15):
thought of John, and I think relatively accurate based on
the fact that they made. I think I think all
we said on the broadcast as well, the Yankees in
one inning have made two outs between second and third base,
which doesn't happen very often in the same inning. Not
their finest work on the basis, and to your point,
the Yankees could play better than they have and that
(19:38):
honestly is scary for Cleveland. It's not as though the
Yankees are operating as the famous T shirt says, the
fully operational death Star, as Brian Cashman said once years ago.
They really are not quite at that level yet because
Judge just got going late in this game tonight. Cole
(19:59):
really did pitch that great today either, But the bullpen
has saved them sometime. The hitting has saved them. Claver
tours has been really good. So it's been really good.
Dan's been really good. But they're I think they're still
looking for that elusive one through nine performance and if
they get it, then I would say the Guardians are
in trouble to that.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
And let's go back to the Guardian side of things.
I mean, just the fundamentals. You mentioned the hunner and
run in the first with the dropped pop up and
then the play that added the insurance run before the
Judge home run of they stopped the runner at third,
but right when to bare hand it, you gave them
another gift. And this is a team that's too good
to do that Guardians. All season long, JP, it was
(20:39):
it was about the margins. It was about you know,
cleaning up and finishing off games, and now they're just
giving away runs and runners right.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
And ninety feet means a ton in the playoffs, and
there were times where obviously the Guardians made two very
costly errors tonight. The walks were part of the story
a little bit tonight. It was certainly more more so
last night. The wild pitches last night were a major story.
It's difficult, and their margin for error is nothing that
(21:08):
they're going to have to be. It's not perfect, something
close to it. We have to remember too, it took
them everything to be able to defeat the Tigers in
the division series. And listen, the Tigers had a great
late season run. But if you just line up the
Tigers line up on paper and compare it to the Yankees,
(21:30):
it's not the same level of competition. So they were
much closer to the Tigers level so far than they
have been to the Yankees level, and that is a
bit of a concern. Their bullpen has been okay, I
think the Guardians overall, but there were some moments where
they weren't throwing strikes. It's just they've been a little
(21:51):
bit of a notch below. And to be honest, as
bullish as I've been on the al Central for a
long time this season, three teams in the playoffs. This
the first two games of this series will certainly open
up plenty of lines of inquiry saying, well, a team
like the Seattle Mariners might have done a better job
in this moment, or if the Astros of the Orioles
(22:11):
had won their first round series, maybe they would be
a tougher opponent for the Yankees. Right now, it's an
interesting dynamic to watch unfold, and certainly, right now the
Yankees could be moving ever closer to either a subway
series or the long away that the Yankees Dodgers matchup.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
John Paul Morose, the MLB Network insider from the ALCS
with us the Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon, and oh,
how nice you mentioned the NLCS and.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
The Mets position there, and.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
The Dodgers got very nice and the Mets. Let me
ask you this, JP, because this is what we talked
about last hour. Dodgers play a great game in Game one,
they get a great game from Flaherty, the Dodgers' bullpen,
the Mets do what they want to with the bullpen.
And I know the Dodgers' strength is their bullpen, but
the Mets have shown you over the course of this playoffs,
it doesn't matter what your bullpen is going to feast
(23:00):
on it. That's what we like looking at how the
series is going to go in New York with the
Dodgers sending Walker Buehler to the Mount tomorrow, Bueler's not
been the same. Then you follow with Yamamoto and Flherty
coming off the game of his life. I feel like
it's a must win for the Mets tomorrow because the
idea of taking two games from Yamamoto and Flaherty, I
think that's gonna be too much, and I think they
(23:21):
have to have game three if they're.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Gonna win the series.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
I disagree, Actually, okay, I do think that. I think
the Mets the Mets from my perspective, they do need
to win two of the next three. I think to
find a way to bring this series back to Roger Shady.
And I get what you're saying that flarerty in game five,
that that you don't want to face them again based
on how dominant he was in Game one. I get it,
(23:47):
but I think that as much as we talk about
the Dodgers and how impressive they were in Game one,
Game two gave us all the reasons why this team
is still vulnerable. Pitching is not there for the Dodgers
every single game. It's while they can look great with
clarity in Game one, they've got to go bullpen in
(24:08):
game in Game two. And then, to be fair, Bueler
and Yamamoto, while at their peaks they're pretty good, they're
also they also have not exactly shown they can take
you five, six, seven quality innings in a postseason start
right now. So I'm of the mind this is a
very balanced series. I think that's why Game two was
so important. The Mets had to show they could win
(24:30):
in LA. They've done that. I don't think either one
of these teams is going to win three straight games here.
I think we're going to see a game six in LA.
And with the Dodgers, Otani really hasn't hit with men
on men on base, Freeman's playing on one leg, Will
Smith isn't hitting. If this is a if this is
(24:50):
a juggernaut that's about to win three straight, I don't
know that I'm seeing that right now. I still think
the Dodgers can certainly win this series, and in the Mets,
I think are legitimate the equal chance as well. But
I'm not seeing a huge disparity. I think you've got
two quality teams, and Lindor is playing I think at
his at his peak a huge hit. Again in game two,
(25:12):
Bentos has really emerged. It's an even series. It really
is that this this to me feels much more like
it's going six or seven than the Dodgers are on
the brink of reelanov free wins in row.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Yeah, the big question is, you know, will there's top
five hitters for the Dodgers go oh for nineteen again?
But for a sports psychologists like hey show, Hey, why
can't you why can't you hit? With nobody on, I'll
hang up and watch from the sideline.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
Right. No, that's exactly an interesting point. I have no
idea that the way that it's all played out and
the struggles that he's had of late, it's a very
very interesting topic. I don't know, it's almost impossible to
explain the disparity between how he's playing and how he's
hitting with men on base versus not on base. But again,
(26:00):
when you look at this team and Freeman, who I
think is putting together one of the playoffs for the
ages with what he's doing on one leg. He's he's
been great as great as he can be. And KEYK
has been KEYK and Tasker has been great. It's it's
been a different cast than how they normally win games.
It looks to me like an even series and and
(26:23):
the Otani element is real, and we'll have to see
if he can find a way to level out that
performance there in those three games on the road in
New York starting tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
I also will say this from my friend next to
me here in JP. He was that game too, and
somehow back in one piece.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
So, Jason, does that mean that you know? I do
know this about you. We've been friends for a long time.
You might be a little bit superstitious. So does that
mean that you're gonna be doing tomorrow's broadcast from City Field?
Speaker 4 (26:51):
No, I wish, I wish. I don't make that.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
I don't make that true TV companion money, John Paul,
that you make it. I mean, you gotta work tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
It's entirely possible that when when you look at this thing,
that Jason Smith is as rational and clear minded of
an analyst as you are on all matters of all sports,
that that Jason walked out of Dodger Stitty yesterday. I said, hey, hey,
we won because I was here. We won, That's why
we won. Did that to do with the inos?
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Did that to do with.
Speaker 5 (27:25):
He won this game because I came here? Okay?
Speaker 4 (27:28):
He stood in for Gramis JP.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
Yah Seuman, and I was good, but I was better.
I think that's what Jason was saying. He was leaving,
leaving the ball player.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
This is I took my dad to the game, and
I want to tell because I know you love this story.
So I took my dad to the game, having the time.
My dad's a huge Yankee fan and he's wearing his
Yankee hat to the game.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
My dad, you can't wear Yankee. I'm gonna wear what
I want to wear. Okay.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
So the game is going fine and Dodger Stadium by
and large, you know, I've gone to so many games
rooting for the Mets whatever, and it's a pretty good crowd.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Ninth inning.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
When it gets to the bottom of the ninth inning,
things were getting a little tense, the Mets fans around me,
the Dodgers fans around me. There's been a lot of
beer that's been consumed during the day and it's a
little nerve racking. I'm going okay, boy, bottom of the
ninth inning is coming. The Dodgers are losing by four runs,
and I can see where the chirping might turn a
little bit. And all of a sudden, somebody from the
stand and says, hey, guys, come on stop. We all
(28:18):
know the Yankee suck, and Dodgers and Mets fans together
all started chanting Yankee suck. For about ninety seconds. They
all came together on that one topic, John Paul.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
So you say we're.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Lost as a society, I give you Mets and Dodgers
fans coming together in that moment.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
So I love that. And here's my question for your dad.
At some point, I would love to know if, if
he sees and when he sees Brooklyn Dodger hats at
Dodger Stadium still is there like a tip of the
cap and of respect the back of the day when
there were three teams in New York.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Oh yeah, anytime say hey, that guy's wearing a Cofax jersey. Hey,
that guy's wearing a skull of Vince Scully jersey with
the microphone on.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
The back, Like, oh, my dad is all for that
one hundred percent.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
I love it. I love the history. If I could
be transported back into any era of baseball, he would
be nineteen fifties New York or late forties New York.
To be able to watch those three teams all on
the trains in one city. That to me is the
peak of baseball. Cool right there.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
He's on Twitter at John Morosi. That is at John Morossi.
John Paul is always appreciated. We'll talk to you later
on this week, talk about the games and get your
lions pick big game against the Vikings coming up on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
That is right. I can't wait for that. I was
sad to see the hutches and injury, but certainly a
very emphatic win over the Cowboys. So yes, much to
discuss next time.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
You got any buddy, We'll talk to you. Enjoy you too,
Thanks so much, Thanks to you JP.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
All right, there goes John Paul Morosi. Always great stuff
for him. Now we got great stuff from Kevin Wyer,
who has what's trending in the wide world of sports.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
Kay Dob, what do you have for us?
Speaker 5 (29:50):
Yep?
Speaker 3 (29:51):
It's over in New York as the Yankees now lead
their series against the Cleveland Guardians two games to none.
Aaron Judge going deep for the first time postseason.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Judge.
Speaker 6 (30:02):
It's a high fly to center back Ost Thomas on
the track near the wall.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
She's gone.
Speaker 6 (30:11):
Aaron Judge hit the ball so high you wondered it
came down in Monument Park. It's a Judge in blast
the ball rise. Here comes the.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Judge, John Sterling on the Yankees Radio network as Aaron
Judge goes deep to help propel the Yankees to a
six to three win. So they're now heading back to
Cleveland with the Yankees up two games to nine, with
Game three set for Thursday. In the NFL, a lot
of news to report on. First, the Detroit Lions extending
(30:44):
defensive lineman Alie McNeil a four year, ninety seven million
dollar deal that includes fifty five million guaranteed and some
trades going down in the NFL. DeVante Adams heading to
the Jets to be reunited with Aaron Rodgers, and the
Raiders setting him to the U in exchange for a
twenty twenty five conditional third round pick that could become
(31:04):
a second based on Adam's performance, and the Bills getting
Amarty Cooper from the Browns who will get a third
round pick as part of the pick swap, and cam
Akers going from the Texans to the Minnesota Vikings and
teams swapping late round picks in at twenty twenty six.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
Beck to you guys, Thank you very much, Kevin.
Speaker 1 (31:22):

for your continued support. Mike and I love putting out
this content for you every single night. Now, obviously, everybody
woke up today to a really big story. Davante Adams
is traded to the Jets. Told you last night it
was gonna happen by Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
Here it is. I'm an insider.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
The Jets get Adams, they pay the rest of his
salary for this year, looking into next year. They trade
away a third round pick that could be a second
round pick, depending on if certain incentives are met. The
Jets do the right thing. They go get somebody. They
absolutely had to have one of the top five receivers
in the NFL. I love everything about this. I love
(32:56):
everything about this trade.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
He even came in and restructure.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
And that's what's the worst thing. That's the worst, the
worst thing. You love all of it.
Speaker 4 (33:05):
I like it.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
This morning news, the excitement awesome, there's the there's Aaron
Rodgers grinning like an idiot, yes Mac of the appearance
and then over his shoulder like it was the sitcom.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
I know.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
You'll just start this week on the show. Who's it
gonna be?
Speaker 5 (33:24):
Dude?
Speaker 4 (33:24):
It's great. I love this.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
It's the Jets absolutely needed it after last night. Now
you have two terrific all pro level wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
And that's the worst part. That's the worst part, because
after last night, I realized, because I get to this
with every Jets season, Okay, you know what, we're gonna stink.
We're not gonna be good, and the season's kind of
gonna be what it's gonna be. And last night I
think you tell we talked about Hey, listen, this is
three games that you blew that the Jets blew at
(33:55):
the end, they had the ball, they had a chance
to win, and after all the problem they thought they
had solved, they fire Robert Sala, they move Nathaniel Hackett
from calling plays, They bring in Todd Downing to call plays.
The offense moves the ball a little bit better, they
run the ball great, they throw the ball grate and
they still lose.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
Right.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
I left here last night saying, okay, you know what,
We're just gonna stink, right, okay, And I've accepted it.
I've accepted it and understand that. Okay, yeah, I gotta
be you know, I gotta put my eggs in my
basket of the Mets and the Knicks. Right, that's what
it is. I've accepted that. I accepted the Jets. We're
gonna stink. But now here comes Devonte Adams and here's
Devont Adams righting.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
To the rescue.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
And now this is why it's the worst thing, because
this is what the Jets do. They can't just stink,
and they can't just walk away, and they can't just say, listen,
don't pay attention to us. There's other great stuff going
on in the NFL. No, the Jets always give you
hope that they never deliver on. But they always give
The Jets are great at giving you hope. They are
(34:55):
great at that. And then you hope, and then it
turns out to be even worse because well, now they
don't deliver on the hope. Right, Okay, So here's all
the great feelings we had going into last year.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Nope, hope is.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Gone because Aaron Rodgers got hurt. Okay, no hope last year. Hey,
all the hope is back this year. Aaron Rodgers first
five games, first six games, they're two and four. All
the hope is gone. I've accepted we're just gonna stink. No, no, no, no,
we're gonna pull you back in. Here you go, sure,
here's DeVante Adams and they give you hope and now
it's just another way to Okay, I'm gonna stay in
(35:28):
And then how is this gonna go sideways?
Speaker 4 (35:30):
Because I know it's gonna go side.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
It's got the irrational part of me, even though I
know it's gonna be great for the team, and how
you're bringing in Adams's and he's just such a game
changing wide receiver.
Speaker 7 (35:40):
I know it's gonna be great. But no, no, no,
there's that party saying they're gonna find a way to fail,
and it's just gonna break my heart again. Giving giving
you hope is what the Jets do and they never
deliver on it. And they can't just be a team
that says we're gonna stink and that's how it's gonna go.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
No, no, that's the thing every year, hey ya you no, no, no, no,
don't unplug. Stay, we got hope coming your way. Don't worry.
Oh we're gonna still blow it at the end.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
But ah, We're gonna make sure you're back with us
when we blow it.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
Keep it right here. That's the worst thing. That's the
worst thing.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
Well you can see it coming from a mile away
because you know still and while you add another receiver
and in theory that helps you deploy things. I think
your offensive line is still a liability and Rogers' inability
to move is still a problem overall.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
But but you did see some hope with some of
the big throws he made.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Well, Tony BISSELLI wasn't available in the trade, so they
had to go get Davonte Ape.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
But the point being, I think, you know because as
soon as he got deep into his red line and
what Mike didn't do right, and he doubled down on
that today right going to Mike Williams about the rout
he ran, and then nobody had the guts to press
him as to why he didn't throw the ball to
Bresee Hall there or why there wasn't more zip on
the ball to get it down there. Because either way,
Mike Williams, whatever rout he was running, he had to
(36:58):
come back for the ball. The ball was not thrown
deep enough. But all that to say, he's not been
great during these three games, like that game against Denver
was winnable, and I know zerline, mister King, I was
going to that one specifically. I just wanted to say
that one was really because that was the worst. And
(37:20):
you can talk about weather whatever.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
You scored nine points. So this guy was supposed to
be the wizard you waited for. I keep seeing posters
for Wicked everywhere I go, So let's lean into it.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
The idea that he was going to come in and
no matter what was out there with him, you were
gonna put up some astronomical offensive numbers. Last year happens.
What can you do? Uh, you move on, and this
year it's been grossly uneven. He makes the throw down
the middle that he made past the defender's hip, one
(37:53):
of the best throws I've seen, right that the zip
on the ball he had to Garrett Wilson in the
back of the end zone where he gets the you know,
does the tap and gets in for the touchdown. Great throw.
And then you've got others. He can't get away from
a pass rush, and why the Bills didn't blitz more
or or some amount more pressure consistently, I don't know,
(38:16):
because he can't get away from it.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
No, he can still he can still has that little
bit of escapability where I can buy an extra couple
of seconds, but he can't. Just he can't buy time
like Josh Allen by his time or the way he
bought his career.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
But that's so you can buy a couple of extra seconds,
but your.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Guys are still gonna get containment right where he's at
now versus what he was. So not bringing the extra
guy yesterday that was the thing for you know mc dermott,
I'm like, what are we doing?
Speaker 4 (38:42):
Like you see in this guy, he's not moving past.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
The tackles or not there they all they're gonna get
Mary was a fireable offense.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
Let's call time out? And then why they rushed too?
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Even Rogers mocked it as much as he went after
Mike Williams, as much as he went after the officials,
he was just kind of like.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
How'd you get that helmet? They rush to you guys?
Oh that's it, Yeah, that's it. Oh okay, great, I
had a lot of time. Yeah, i'd done throw it up.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
We caught it and I got to step into the
throw fully and I still have a strong arm. But see,
but because they're giving you home because.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
I'm back now. Now I'm back, and I'm like, okay
in the New York. Okay, I'm back with the fifth
full of dollars.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
So this this really could go to hell for you though,
Yes I know.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
And then you lost Steven Cenzo and and and now
that you got this new iteration of the Knicks' worry
about that.
Speaker 4 (39:29):
That's that's next week. That's but I'm not down the road.
That's next week.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
I'll worry about that next week. I got the Mets tomorrow,
I got the Mets the next three days, and I
got the Jets.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
On a day game. Can you believe that I got stuff?
Speaker 5 (39:41):
Man?
Speaker 4 (39:41):
I got stuff.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
That's a lot of stuff, Like I got a lot
of chocolate to be now. But now I'm back now
now they brought me back. That's the worst thing.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
Now right now, you got hop yeah, before we went home,
and then you're texting me this morning Jets show.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
The weirdest NFL story of the day by far. Next
