(01:10):

did a flip on the hug And how about the
dude is not? Do they gotta go kill him?

Speaker 2 (01:17):
What? He's still alive?

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Oh yeah, yeah, Oh don't you like that? I told
you that's quickly things yeahs developing.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
He was the old man, He's joking for a long
time on the show. I would be the old man
sitting there as the kids are gonna go and do
their things. Wait, I am there for the hammer. Whoa,
I just peeped the hammer.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Oh okay, I'm not gonna do this live reaction. I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah. Justin Herbert three hundred and forty nine yards passed saying.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
That everyone just like screaming like, ah dang.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
He didn't do it right.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Because he didn't die. He jumped onto the rock and
he's still alive. They had to go kill him after that.

Speaker 5 (01:55):
That's what he gets because he did that weird like
anime move yellow dragon.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Ball z move. Can't really practice that, you know, one
shot you miss, a little bit you miss. They don't
exactly have a bunch of bou rules out there.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
They hammered the crap out his dome. Oh my god, if.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
The wind is off, you're gonna land and maybe you're
still alive.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
It is not golf.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Hey, okay, here's your last chance. Stop watching that movie.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
That's not fair.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Why did they get three hits. That's not fair.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
No, no, bro, you get one hit.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
He already died.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
That's that's no.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
That's not fair. That's so that's so not fair.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
No, no, no, no, I'm telling you again, you have
one last chance. Dude, ll stop watching the probably a
Phineas and Marathon somewhere. Stop watching them.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
I just feel like it would have been real because
he look, if he did a flip, I promise you
he would have died as soon as he Oh that's
his grandma.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
That's tough, Dawn, all right, be that this could be
a podcast watching Midsummer for the first time with Marymack.
There you go, yeah, there you go again, telling you
that you're left again. I'm the I'm the old man.
Beginning of Friday the thirteenth, don't go into the woods.
It's a massacre. Let's have a little you're gonna you're

(03:13):
not gonna come.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
Out because she didn't do a flip.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yes, let's do it flip. Let's uh, let's talk about
the life of the two elders who turned seventy two
in Midsummer and then had to die because for some
stupid reason, that's the rule.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
They were so young.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Seventy two was so young. Seventy two not not in
this well they hadn't.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Seventy two is they worked the old union rules about
an age of retirements. Seventy two is the end, expirations,
the ends.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Why did you do the hammer like you're done?

Speaker 3 (03:45):
You're done? No, I'm doing the throat slight you're done.
I mean you're seventy two, You're done. Don't hurt him. Hey,
it's why you don't go to Sweden. That's why you
stay in the United States. I love Sweden. Don't go
to Sweden. Don't go to anything a couple of years
any kind of.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Being able to you know.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
I just think it also a mess up because I
know the black guy is gonna die for us too.
Like movie, I don't want to don't stay here, A
lot of me don't stay here.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
An of me I know to turn the movie off.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
I know my people.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Bro.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Yeah, he's gonna die so bad.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
For the worst. I will tell you this. He is
in the good place. Okay, he makes he makes it
to the good place. Cheating makes it to the good place.
How good is it? Here's the thing. The good place
is really the bad place. Sorry spoiler. But then it
turns back into the good place.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
You can't just you can't just turn.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
He had a quote heaven to hell. He has a
lifelong relationship with his soulmate, Eleanor Shellstrop. He goes to
the good place. Okay, cheaty winds up in the good place.
That's all good. By the way, William Jackson harper to
be able to do drama and commedy as well as
he does. He's so talented. Yeah, fantastically talented. Absolutely Now

(05:01):
big news out of the NFL of more reaction to
the Monday night games coming up in a few minutes,
but a big story that we're reacting to tonight. Adam
Schefter reported this a couple hours ago. The Lions look
like they're gonna be without Jamison Williams for at least
a couple of games because he has run a foul
of the league's performance enhancing rules. This again, It first

(05:24):
came out a couple hours ago, he's facing a two
game suspension, and where a wording with Adam Schefter makes
you think that, okay, there might be some kind of hearing,
some sort of thing, but he is facing a two
game suspension. Now there's two thoughts on this. There's the
micro and the macro. The micro is the dude can't
get out of his own way right now. You know,
he comes into the league one of the top wide
receivers out of college football, and he is incredibly talented.

(05:47):
He's coming off the big injury and he misses his
first year. But the guy is a stud and it
takes a little bit to get going, and he turns
himself into a big weapon. And then he gets busted
for gambling, and then he gets suspended again, and now
here is suspend it again for peds and the two
things the NFL say, Okay, lots of things, we can
look the other way on. The two things you can't
get suspended for you can't get caught doing are gambling

(06:10):
and peds. What's Jamison Williams got caught for gambling and
pd What is wrong with you? I mean, the guy
can't get out of his own way. He cannot get
out if they said to you, you know, if they said, okay, listen,
jamisonid all you need to do to have a great
NFL career, right, you walk from where I'm talking right now,

(06:33):
and you walk through the door on the other side
of the room. Really, yes, just on the way. Don't
stop and sit on that sofa and put your feet
up on the ottoman. That's the only thing between you
and this door. Don't sit on the sofa, don't put
your feet up on the ottoman. Just don't do it.
Walk around them, go through that door. You have a
great NFL career, okay. And then you turn your back

(06:54):
for a second. You turn around. Not only is Jamison
Williams sitting on the couch with his feet up on
the food on the ottoman, he is falling asleep with
a snack, watching television, and he's very content to be there.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Sounds like a lot of my sundays watching me some
of these nfls gamey.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Cat you got you? Come on, man, you got it.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
You can't get out of your own It's like the
betting right when it was like, oh you can't bet
in the facility.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
They show you exactly where the line is. Hey, just
go over there. There's an automan and a recliner over there.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
You can sit right there.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Don't do it over the hell you want, just don't
do that sleep whatever. Yeah, like this is just ridiculous. Right,
twelfth pick in the twenty two draft, coming out of
Alabama going to the Lions with the new look offense.
What they were expecting would be that giant push forward
and that's where it began. But not with him into

(07:44):
all world athlete, but just every time he starts to
get a little bit of momentum, and even this year,
they got so many mouths to feed in that offense.
I mean, you want to talk about your OC deciding,
you know, there's a better job than any of those
head coaching things I could add, because look at all
those guys under fire.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Nope, I'm gonna stay here. I'm gonna pull the strings
for Dan Campbell. Jamison Williams is a guy that they'll
be able to just lift.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Right back out.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
They're like, he's out with us, who wants those who
wants those targets? Who's gonna bring me a snack to
the next meeting to try to curry my favorite And.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
That's the bigger part. That's The macro part of this
is that I'm sorry, Kansas City. The Lions are the
best team in the NFL. They don't have the best record,
but they are the best team in the NFL. If
the Lions played the Chiefs right now, and think about this,
the Chiefs could not keep up with the Lions offensive.
Patrick Mahomes would not be able to keep up with
what the Lions can do on offense. They are the

(08:40):
best team in the NFL. Is their defense great? No,
but it's pretty good. You wonder know Aiden Hutchinson and
I understand that. But the big thing coming into this
year was, boy, their secondary I'm not quite sure about it.
And guess what they fixed it. The Lions are beating everybody.
They're beating teams with good records. They're running away from
teams they should beat. They just beat the Vikings coming

(09:02):
off of bye, playing at home, and you think the
Lions are gonna get a bounce coming off of a
forty seven to nine win over the Cowboys. Nope, We're
gonna roll to a win here because on offense we
are unstoppable. They are not gonna miss Jamison Williams at all,
because sometimes he has big games sometimes he doesn't, doesn't matter,
the Lions still win. He got one pass yesterday from
minus four yards and one target the entire game, and

(09:24):
Sam Laporta one pass. You think you're gonna win a
game with Saan Laporta one pass and one target and
the same thing with James and Williams. Yep, because we
have so many weapons. I'mon Ross Saint Brown is still
the number one guy on the field. And Jamier Gibbs,
I'm sorry. Right now, he's the best running back in
the NFL. There is nobody more dangerous or electric than him.

(09:45):
And he is as dangerous as Early Marshall Faulk, which
is kind of what he reminds me of watching him play.
I know that, you go Colts Marshall faul I'm going on.
I'm going Early Colts Marshall Faulk where it was guy
he was a monster there. This guy is so dangerous.

(10:05):
He's the one you have to know where is he
on every single play? And up until now, I get it.
Dan Campbell has been defaulting to David Montgomery on more
of the carries and more of the touches than Jamier Gibbs,
and I understand that, but after yesterday. It is clear
Gibbs needs to be your number one guy. And I'm
not saying suddenly he needs to go and get fifteen
more touches a game, but he needs a big guy

(10:27):
that's out there for big series. He's to be the
one you're getting the ball to because you saw him
yesterday one hundred and fifteen yards rushing and a big
forty four yard touchdown run on the final drive. He
catches two big passes for first downs before they go
and kick the go ahead, game winning field goal, like
he does everything for this team. He is so dangerous.
And yeah, Montgomery had the fumble and that was a

(10:49):
bad thing. I don't know why Montgomery's on the field
at that point, because the day that Gibbs is having,
he needs to be your guy at that point. He's
your hot hand and he's not in the game for
that drive. And what are you doing is gonna run
the ball, take care of the ball as good as
as good as as Derrick Henry has been. I'll take

(11:09):
Jamiir Gibbs because he will affect the game in every
single aspect and he's someone you have to know where
he is on every play. And those guys you put
so much pressure on a defense because look, a guy
like Derrick Henry, Okay, what is he gonna catch pass
out of the back that you know what Derek Henry is,
You know what he's gonna wind up getting here. A
guy like Jamiir Gibbs. Is he gonna run? Is it
gonna be play action? Is he gonna catch pass? Is

(11:29):
it gonna be downfield? Is gonna There's so many things
the Lions can do because they're so talented, and Jared
Goff does such a great job finding the right guy.
That's something I didn't think he'd be able to hit
that next level with. But he throws to the right guy.
He makes the right read now all the time, which
is always a big problem, right hey, dragon Goff trying
to force the ball in? Does you see what's happening downfield?

(11:50):
He doesn't see where the receivers are, but he makes
the right read now all the time. It helps to
have all these weapons. But that's why Jamison Williams. They
can win without him, they can win with him. I'm
syya there, but they've had games where he's great and
they won, and he had games where he's invisible and
they won. Lines are the best team in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Right now, Ready, let's have a little bit of fun
because you know who I had to text if we're
gonna have this kind of conversation on a Monday night.
And first, I wish we'll find him. Actually I shouldn't
say that, because people have found him. Yeah, and he's
I didn't mean it that way, you know what I mean.
I I gotta find a number I trusted. Hey, I

(12:27):
got trusted source. Maybe I can push it through glads.
You're gonna get a hold of him.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
You gotta go. I gotta go get on four Chan
and find out where where is that?

Speaker 5 (12:39):
All?

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Right, here we go.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
My home is still the favorite for MVP. Fine, uh, Next,
you gotta tie between in this before tonight's game. So
we'll see how this updates. Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen both
at five to one, Golf at plus six point fifty
would be next.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
C J. Stroud at plus eleven hundred. Now, because of
this exercise and the theoretical game that you have proposed
that maybe will happen in New Orleans later on this year,
our guy Todd Ferman at bet the Board pod okay
at Todd Furman Okay. On Twitter verse, I said, Hey, Todd,
what would the odds be Chiefs Lions neutral field right now?

(13:15):
Theater of the mind exercise here in our four that
was at ten to ten. He has already responded, Wow, okay,
pulling up the charts, but he goes, off the top
my head, Lions top rated power team in the NFC. Okay, fine,
that that I think we I'd love to see the
numbers and the numerical breakdown. He goes, I'd make it
a pick them or a Lions minus one on a

(13:37):
neutral field, tell you, And it wouldn't. It wouldn't even
be that close because the Chiefs. Look, we'll get to
the Chiefs. There's stuff on the Chiefs to get you
over the course of the week. They win a big
game against the Niners yesterday, but it's not the same team.
They're not. They're not. They wouldn't. They won't be able
to keep up because the Lions offensively, their offensive line
is really good. And I give the Chiefs defense is
good too, But when you have all these weapons, you

(13:59):
can't cover everybody. And and there's good they're they're gonna
find a way. Bags there's Johnson, Let's find a way
to make to find that mismatch or find the guy
who's That's why this is such a different different feel
about this Lion's team is because last year was hey,
we're just seeing all our talent now, right where So
it's like when when one of the X Men first

(14:21):
discovers their powers, it's like, whoa, look how powerful this
person is. And then in the sequels it's, oh, they've
harnessed their power. Now they understand how powerful they are.
Last year we all saw, Hey, the Lions have a
lot of power. This year it's like we've harnessed it.
We know it with thirty seven other X Men. So
he's a jet he's gonna wear power. We gave it.

(14:41):
We decided we didn't like that after as much. What's this,
what's this? What's his superpower? He can eat a block
of cheese in eight seconds? Put him on the maybe list.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
I don't know about that.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
And we start that offshoot when you as the guy
eating that block of cheese's going for cheese man.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
I am cheese man. Exit out out of presco hex
and Swollen Dome. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon
Live from the tire rack dot Com Studios telling me
a lions They're not gonna miss him. Derek Cheeseman Coming
up next, we have a double bottle reaction to two
biggest stories coming off of Monday Night Football. Keep it

(15:19):
right here, Jason and Mike. This is Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
Live from the tire rack dot Com Studios where Monday
Night Football. Two games tonight, not without controversy. Let's deal
with the Ravens and Bucks first, and the horrible injury

(15:55):
to Chris Godwin, all best thoughts to him. A little
bit over a minute left to go in the game
and the Bucks are down ten. Baker Mayfield looking to
get the ball downfield. Godwin makes the catch, comes down
all sorts of awkwardly on his foot. It is not

(16:16):
something you want to see. They did not show the
replay on ESPN, left the field in an air cast
on a cart. Likely his season's over. That the team
is saying dislocated ankle, and I know that. The first
reaction is what are you doing the game that the Buck?
The Bucks were going to lose, and I get that,

(16:36):
but I don't think any team would have done differently
what the Bucks did. Yes, they were getting killed the
whole game, so I get maybe that's where it came from. Okay,
it's thirty seven to ten in the fourth quarter, but
the Bucks were able to fight back. They get an
onside kick, they get the ball back. When you get
the ball back, if there's a minute and a half
left in the game and you're down ten points, your

(16:57):
first team offense is out there. You're still trying to
get downfield to get a score, get the on side kick,
and then get one more score. Any team is trying
to do that. This is not a k If you're
down seventeen or twenty, okay, that's a different story. But
when you're down two scores and you have the ball
the minute half left to go, you get down there
and score, and then you try to score again. That's

(17:17):
how the game goes. You're trying to you're still trying
to win the game. Yes, it's a small chance of
winning the game, but you're still trying to win it.
You've already scored twenty one points in the quarter. You've
seen the Ravens before. Mayfield's feeling it spreading the ball around, Well,
you're getting the backs involved. No team, every team would
do it the same way. It's awful. It's bad luck.

(17:37):
And I know that. Troy Aikman talked about it before,
right before the play happened, saying, you know, you want
to get out of dodge, you want to be healthy.
Jimmy Johnson used to do this if a team was
way behind in a game and they were still trying
to score, he would blitz the hell out of them. Okay,
I get that in theory, but it's a ten point game.
At ten points, minute half left to go, the first
team off is going to be out there. The Jets

(17:57):
are not benching Aaron Rodgers saying, okay, Taylor go win
with a minute and a half left to go. Everybody
still out there. Every Josh Allen is out there for
the Bills, Dak Prescott's out there for the Cowboys. There
Number one Seed Lamb is out there. Everybody's out there.
It was awful. It was it was It was bad
to see. It was tough to see all our best
thoughts with Chris Collin, but every team is going to

(18:18):
do that.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
Yeah, as we talked about it, you know, ending the
third quarter, if you raise the flag. As we get
ready for another NBA season, right, how many times do
we see it? All Right, it's not our night.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
Hell, we've seen that in playoff series, right, seven game
playoff series, Like, nope, we're done. A lot of criticism
of the Dodgers this last round against your Mets of
quote giving the Mets games by by the way he
manages the staff. I just wanted to see if I
could poke you a little bit. Sure, get y'all, get
you all upset coming. It's a pretty good looking gear.

(18:53):
But the idea just being that we we do see
it in other sports, no question. We've seen it in
the NFL, Right, we saw it.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Captain Kirk went out in Pennix Junior ends up in
the game yesterday. You have those circumstances here. Buccaneers decided,
hey we can. We're still gonna keep battling. Evans had
already left the game hamstring injury. Will see what his
status is week to week going forward. But they got
the hot hand and they started moving the ball, they
put up points, they got the onside kicks. The fact

(19:22):
that you've got two of three opportunities of onside kicks
against the Ravens that have been recovered by their opponent
is kind of funny because the rest of the league
is over fi. So you're thinking, well, we found something
that we can exploit in their special teams that if
we can get down here and score quickly, we may
have a shot to go win this game. And Baker's

(19:43):
if nothing, if we haven't learned anything about Baker Mayfield,
He's a guy that you know, gets himself full of
a little Baker Mayfield when he's feeling it right, going
back to his college days and certainly through the pros.
And this offense for Tampa has been fantastic this year,
a lot of it being the the heroics of Chris Godwin.
But to say that you just suddenly stop because it's

(20:05):
a ten point game with a minute thirty four left
as you get the ball back, it's just asinine. So
it's just an unfortunate circumstance. The tackle itself, everybody starts
going to hip drop whatever. I'm like, he's kind of
going to the turf does he get caught. Like I've
watched it repeatedly, I don't see.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
Anything wrong, dirty, whatever. But that's where we're at. When
we have such a big injury, everybody wants to assess
a blame. It's an unfortunate part of a violent game.
In the final minutes, exit out about a Fresca exit
swelling down the Jason Smiths or with Mike Carmon live
from the tirec dot com studios. So there's your Bucks, Ravens.

(20:43):
Now to get to the Chargers and the Cardinals. Two
big things from this game. The first one a really
controversial penalty that helped give the Cardinals the win over
the Chargers. Chargers kick the field goal to go up
fifteen fourteen, and the Cardinals get the ball back with
under two minutes left to go. The Chargers defense is terrific.

(21:03):
We'll have more on them coming up in a couple minutes.
But the first two plays of the Cardinals possession two
incomplete passes, and the Chargers are feeling it. And on
the second down and ten pass, Kyler Murray tries to
go downfield, except after the incomplete pass, a flag is
thrown an unnecessary roughness call on Cam Heart. That cost

(21:28):
LA fifteen yards. Then instead of third and ten and
the Chargers defense, Hey, we're feeling great, it was first
and ten for the Cardinals near midfield. The next play
is a dump off to James Connor who gets the
wall all the way down to the twenty yard line.
The Cardinals able to run the clock all the way
down to two seconds, they kick a game winning field
goal to end the game, and they walk away with
a seventeen to fifteen win. I know there's a lot

(21:50):
of controversy about this penalty, and I think people are
missing part of the reason why why this is a
call that happens. You have to be okay with I'm
going back and forth a little bit with Jacob Hester
on Twitter about this over the last hour. There's a
lot of people that don't this is not a penalty.
It's not a penalty. Well, when you look at it,
Cam Hart leads with his helmet and he leaves his

(22:11):
feet at the receiver and he makes contact with the
receiver's helmet. I'll be it a little bit like it's
you know, it's not something that's egregious, but when you
do that, you open the door for the flag to
be thrown. And you can and here's the thing. You
can say it's not a penalty. I'm not gonna argue
with you. You can say it's not a penalty. You

(22:34):
can say I can't believe that that's not a pedal,
it's not a penalty, okay, And I'll nod my head
and I'll say, but the NFL thinks that might be
a penalty. And unfortunately, you're not playing in my living
room where I make the calls. You're playing on an
NFL field where you know that the that some of
the officials are looking for calls like that, And it
doesn't mean it's always gonna get called. Some referee cruise

(22:55):
and officiating cruise might see that plan and go, yeah,
nothing real, okay, no no flag there right, some but
some are gonna see it and go, yeah, he left
his feet led with his helmet, that's a penalty. Don't
open the door for a play like that. And that
and that's exactly what Cam Heart did. I'm gonna try
to blow this guy up. Likely because the Chargers defense,
I'm sure was feeling it. They were playing great all

(23:16):
night long. They're flying around the football, they're breaking up plays.
This Charger defense is terrific. All they do is get
off the field on third down. They don't get a
lot of sacks, they don't get a lot of turnovers.
They're okay in both departments, but boy, outside of Minnesota,
they might be the best defense in the NFL because
all they do is get off the field. And you know,
and that had you're feeling it. So you make a

(23:36):
bit of a reckless play. I'm gonna go blow this
guy up, and you get the flag thrown. Doesn't mean
it's always going to be a flag, but when you
do that, you open the door that maybe it could
get thrown. And that's where you need to know. All right,
that's a bad I can't make that play because because
cam Hart opened the door for that flag to be
thrown out.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
I think say some of it on that is based
on where the referee is and again trying to get
the helmet cam on the officials as something at another
angle I can buy in the package. Go ahead, NFL,
I'll pay for that one to see what happened. Absolutely
was thrown from her eyes once you threw the flag,
because I think it was an anticipatory call, one of

(24:17):
those where you're anticipating there's big contact, whether it's soccer,
whether it's basketball, it's like, oh, you look at the guy,
he's gonna go up for the big block. He's gonna
hit him, and that he doesn't. But you've already decided
that there was gonna be contact here. I think the
way he goes into the idea he's going to separate

(24:38):
Harrison from the ball. So just the body posture was
enough to say, Okay, that's it, because I like in
terms of leaving the feet and whatever, I think that
was again depending on your angle and how you want
to adjudicate it, because I don't think it was the
road warrior shoulder tackle like we see some guys do
to where it's an obvious penalty.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
This one you got the shades of. And whenever you
leave it to the judges to steal off from every
other sport that we watch, boxing from us, man, nothing
was stolen from us by then. I was stolen from us.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
By the way, you're all a bunch of dopes worried
about the follow call in the w NBA game.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
How about the fact that you took like nine steps
before there was any contact, potentially at all stolen from
us man. It was.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
By the way, you also had five minutes to win
it in overtime. Same thing here, it's a bad call,
then you give up a thirty three yard played to
James conn.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
You made it worse. But but but that that play
certainly helped because you you have the Cardinals now it
third and long. But now you're near midfield and the
Chargers saying what the hell is going on? And Jim
Harbaugh is jumping up and down on the sideline and
he's going crazy, so that you know it's part of
a thing, and so so, and then you can catch
you by surprise with a great play call, right that

(25:52):
little that little screen to James Connor was able to
bulldoze his way down and the game's over at that point.
But but I mean, I I can't say this was
awful because I understand what they're looking for. Like I
know they're looking This has got to be something that
in meetings you tell your dbs, Okay, when this hat,
you know they're gonna be looking for this. Don't do
that right, Try to understand play in control because some

(26:14):
officiating crews look for stuff like this. You know, no,
every officiating crew looks for something different. Right, there's some
officiating crews that when you watch a game and go, boy,
why is my best cornerback getting flagged for illegal hands?
I'm going back a couple of weeks, like you could
tell that the like for that game specific the Jets
and the Vikings game, that the officiating crew went into

(26:34):
that going okay, we're not gonna let soft Gardner put
his hands on Justin Jefferson. Well, well why is that?

Speaker 2 (26:39):
Now?

Speaker 1 (26:39):
That's what they're doing. Okay, I could disagree with it
and say it's ridiculous, but that's how they're gonna call it. Right,
So we see that. We see that all the time.
You know, the officials are looking for something like this,
and it doesn't mean it's always gonna get called. But
don't give them the reason to throw the flag. Don't
maybe have to take the flag out. I don't think
officials buy and large really want to throw a flag
in that situation. But if you tell me, if if

(27:00):
you do this in front of me and you make
it look like a penalty, I'm gonna throw the flag.
Well I guess it.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
And that's the thing for me is that it looked
like he was going to do the full on launch
into it, explode into Harrison and then fought better of it.
But all the posture and everything that he did in
the play led to the flag being thrown. Do I
think it's a penalty? No, But I have the benefit
of having watched the replay one hundred times now.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Yeah, but in fact is and I would look at
it and go, yeah, I don't know that I would
have thrown the flag. But again, I'm not the.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
Repend I understand you, and I are not the referee,
and it's in the moment with bodies flying.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
I'm not an Arizona. I'm not an Arizona. You know
what they're looking for. Don't give him a reason to don't,
just don't.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
We also have the idea of player safety and discussion
and even coming out of Sunday's games, because that's when
you have the standalone games, right, magnify it that much more.
How many people have discussed the brilliant Sir Patrick Mahomes
versus the way officiating is at this point, right the
thirty three yard Oh look at the run, the magic

(28:01):
of Patrick Mahomes. Every one of those guys on the
sideline wanted to blow his ass up. Oh yeah, but
nobody does because even a push and a nudge out
of bounds, you're afraid of the fifteen yard flag. Guess
what going forward, Patrick Mahomes is gonna get lit up and.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Teams are gonna say, I'm okay with the flag. I
He'll never do that again, right, He'll never do that again.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
But it's that kind of thing when we talk about
player safety in the macro side of it, to use
your your terminology, the macro side of it is, we
keep talking about player safety, the idea that he may
have been leading into a guy who was coming back
from a concussion in Marves. Marvin Harrison Junior also plays
in I Think It's a whole machine at work.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
App Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My
best friend Mike Harmon no Live from the Ti rack
dot Com studios. And after tonight in the NFL, the
trade season is going to light up because now you

(29:13):
have a plethora. Would you say that's a plethora. There
is a plethora of teams that need wide receivers. Tampa
Bay with the injury to Chris Gottwin tonight, best thoughts
to him, a very ugly injury. Mike Evans has hurt
as well. The forty nine Ers lose Brandon Ayuk for
the season, torny aclmcl he guys, they have Ricky Piersoll,

(29:33):
but this is a Super Bowl or bus season.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
Well, Deebo's in the hospital, went to hurt and McCaffrey
may not walk back through that door.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
Uh. And you have the Chargers, who, after losing tonight,
you understand they need some kind of red zone target.
They need some kind of wide receiver because you should
have beat the Cardinals and your defense is doing everything
it can again it's the best defense in the AFC.
And all they do is get af off the field
on third down. They're under so much pressure. Five field

(30:04):
goals Tonight, Herbert throws for three point fifty. But this
is the thing that really gets me about the Chargers
is that. And the one concern I had about Harball
coming into the season was remember we talked about this, Hey,
he understands you can't play offense like this in the
NFL anymore, Right, I get that you went to the
Super Bowl. Colin Kaepernick and the forty nine Ers is great,
but you've been at Michigan for a long time. You

(30:26):
can't bring a Michigan offense into the NFL where you're
gonna say, here's what I'm gonna do, Gonna get rid
of all the wide outs from last year, Gonna bring
in two new running backs who are injury prone because
my brother says they're good. Gonna bring in two running
backs who are injury prone, and that's how we're gonna
do things and not give Justin Herbert anybody to throw to.
What have you seen from the Chargers so far this year?
Their offense is atrocious. This is a team that could

(30:48):
be five and one or undefeated if they had bigger
talent at wide receiver. And the thing is they didn't
have to They didn't have to deal away Keenan Allen,
didn't have to do all of these things. They still
could have had some weapons out there and this would
be a much better offense. But he wants to play
offense like it's nineteen seventy five in the NFL, and
you can't do that. And it makes me think has

(31:08):
the game passed by Jim Harball offensively because to come
into the year thinking this is an offense I can
put out here where there's nobody out there, you're afraid of.
Nobody out there is afraid of JK. Dobbins. Hey, Lad
McCaughey's a good receiver and boy that they really stick
with him on the final drive like he's a really
good younger. But he's one guy and he plays the
slot like you have nobody else anybody's afraid of. You

(31:31):
just have a bunch of guys out there. You win
offensively forward, being offensively forward thinking in the NFL. Now
you don't win by saying we're gonna sledge hammer the
ball up and down the field. Even the Steelers are
gonna understand how we just can't do that all the time.
Oh we gotta go to Russell Wilson because we're not
scoring enough points. But but Harball, that's my big thing
is that as the NFL passed them by, because to

(31:51):
come into this year thinking this is what you need
to do to win is insane. So I'm hoping that
there is some sort of all right, we gotta get
we gotta get somebody else back, whether it's Mike Williams
from the Jets, who you know is out there. Deontay
Johnson might be available. As much as he wants to
stay in Carolina, the price tag might be too much
for another team to say, Okay, hey, they're gonna give
a second round pick for Deontay Johnson. We kind of

(32:12):
have to go do it.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
Deantrey Johnson saying I can't can't do anything but play
wide receiver might help his way out the door, kind
of flipping.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
Out the locker room. But he did say he wanted
to stay a couple of years. No, No, he said
he wanted to a couple of weeks ago. But his
words after this latest effort, which looked to be a
smash opportunity for him, that went to the wayside, like
and it's great, but if there's a bidding war, because
Deontay Johnson would be the best wide receiver out there,

(32:40):
You've already had the two first mover effects Adams to
your Jets and then Cooper going to the Bills. You
got all these teams that are standing at the altar
going we might have a shot to make a run,
but we got to make a move. Chargers they threw
for three hundred and forty nine yards. You know who
the leading receiver was, I guess God, Will Disley. It
was Will Disony. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:01):
Eleven targets, yeah, eight catches eighty one yards on the
night Jalen Rieger might have been out of bounds, maybe not.
Maybe the defender had been out of bounds.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
I'm not sure. Uh. The only target of the night
that forty one. You heard deep ball that Herbert through.
So the potential to unlock it is there. You just
got to go find a player that can do it,
because the defense is gonna hold up their end. But
if it all is, it's Dick or the kicker. I mean,
all you are is Pittsburgh East or West. I should
say you're picking Pittsburgh West at this point under justin

(33:31):
field where it was Chris Boswell and defense. Yeah, I
mean because this week may tell the Steelers, oh, we
don't need to go get a wide Racers and they
might be out. Oh no, no, we got Russell Wilson back.
Now everything is great, and Pickens is great, and everything
is great. Still, you are gonna see this is a
this is gonna be a feeding frenzy at the deadline,
which is why for a guy like Johnson. Hey, once stay,
we like him. We'll give you a second, and we'll

(33:53):
give you a sixth because you look Dunney Johnson twenty
seven years old in his you know, still in his
prime playing well. Hey, sorry, Deanta, we love to keep you. Hey,
we're moving on.

Speaker 3 (34:01):
You know you're not winning anytime soon, right, That's the
thing is realizing you're still coming out from the crushing
weight of the trade that has to this point gone
awry with Chicago. So maybe you can go pick up
a couple of second, third round picks in exchange for
Deontay Johnson.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
In a how should we say, distressed marketplace where teams
are need of wide receiver exit out about a Fresco
exit swelling down the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Carmon live from the tyreq dot Com studios.
So I would have to say this if I'm gonna
play matchmaker really quick. Oh okay, cool. Mike Williams has

(34:41):
been with the Chargers. Yes, it's a different system there
a little bit. Buddy was there a year ago. Kind
of understands where things are some of the same players,
same quarterback. Sure, I would say the Chargers make up
make a look for him, especially since it's more red zone.
I'm sure they're gonna say, let's get a big target
in the red zone to be able to throw to.
Mikes will be there. Yeah, that's gonna be the big one.
But a team like the Chiefs, they're gonna make a move.

(35:02):
Tampa Bay is gonna make a move because they're really good.
These are the teams to watch for Deontay Johnson next
two weeks. You're gonna use the teams for him. See
who else pops free that suddenly is on the trade market.
And I'm gonna say this, if it comes down to it,
the Chiefs, being undefeated, won't be outbid. They're gonna get.
They would get John Sniffit's out there. Get you exit out,

(35:23):
bout of Fresco Exit, Swalling down The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon coming up next to
my buddy Ben Maller. This is Fox NIXT Show.
