Speaker 2 (00:22):
Let's give this you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome inside hour two The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon, Heyboddy, live from the ti
rack dot com studios. Tirac dot com will help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirac dot
com is the way tire buying should be well. From

(00:48):
the NFL right now, fourth quarter just getting under way
in Arizona. Cameron Dicker Yah Chip shot this one from
thirty two yards. It's given the Charges a nine to
seven lead over the card. Meanwhile, thanks to five a
touchdown passes from Lamar Jackson, the Ravens lead the Bucks
forty one to twenty four, just under four minutes left

(01:10):
to go, and I think There's one question that's a
lot of people asking right now that I don't have
an answer for. Uh, how did the Raiders beat the Ravens?
How they really how did the Ravens beat the red
I get hey, week one against the Chiefs, and we'll
get to the Chiefs in a few minutes. Week one,
the Chiefs okay Oult comes down to Isaiah likely not
having his foot down and bounced by that. What I mean,

(01:31):
come on, man, you lost the Raiders. Man, you follow
it up by losing to the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Well, we talked about let downs, and early in the
season a lot of what the Ravens problem were were
inability to close out games like we watch it even here, right,
the Buccaneers just score. They missed the two point conversion
against Baker Mayfield gets swallowed up by the way Bucky
Irving found his way into the end zone for those
that trusted him in a flex position. But then they

(01:58):
actually got the outside kicks over again. I mean it's
three minutes left, so I mean it's a tall order,
but hey, chaos can't happen, and the Ravens have found
themselves on the back end of that. And yes, the
whenever you can invoke the how did you lose to
the Raiders question? You know, you talked about your jets
in forty years of that, I mean since the Rich

(02:20):
gannon Jerry Rice days, there's been a lot of if
you lost to the Raiders, you said, how do you
lose to the Raiders? Hang that banner? Man, hang that.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Hey, we're gonna christen our first banner in Vegas.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
What is it? Well, it's a Taylor Swift concert sellout banner.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
But then next to that, one's gonna be we beat
the Ravens weeked.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
That's kind of a big dal absolutely, especially because now
you have a lot of discussions as to whether the
Ravens in what is a weird NFL something you and
I have talked about off air quite a bit in
terms of product quality, whether the Ravens are in fact
the best team in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
It's amazing, it's amazing the Ravens are playing. So how
did they lose to the Raiders?

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Again?

Speaker 1 (03:00):
And still some time left, as Mike said, just about
two minutes left to go, Still a long way to
go for the Buccaneers. We did get the on side kick,
but again still chasing forty one to twenty four. Meanwhile,
Kyler Murray a forty four yard scramble for a touchdown
that's given the Cardinals a fourteen to nine lead over
the Chargers early in the fourth quarter. Extra point is

(03:23):
up and good at charge we getting the ball back.
Kicking field goals is not gonna win this game.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
I was just gonna joke about his run being as
much as he's thrown tonight. I'm about a halfway there.
He's only got there. He's got one hundred passing yards
all lot of the things we've talked about with the
identity of this Chargers squad man, they are stingy as
hell now here. You have a jail break, touchdown, sprint,
but otherwise points hard to come by through the first
six weeks of this season.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
So that's where we sit right now. Again, we'll keep
you updated on these games. Got Jason locking Forest up
and buy in a few minutes at the conclusion of
the Ravens and the Bucks. But a developing story out
of the NFL. Jamison Williams, Lion star wide receiver, is
facing a two game suspension. This according to ESPN insider

(04:12):
Adam Schefter tweeted this out a few minutes ago. Facing
a two game suspension for violating the NFL's performance enhancing
substances policy. Schefter reporting this again about fifteen ten to
fifteen minutes ago, so it looks like it could be
as much of a two game suspension for Jamison Williams.
First of all, Williams, then we get to the bigger point.

(04:34):
He just can't get out of his own way, all right.
Coming out of college with the injury, you had to
overcome a lot to get back, and the Lions believed
in him. Then you had the suspension for gambling. Okayn,
haveve a PED suspension, And it's every time you think that,
Okay Williams is going to get it going and develop
into this one of the star wide receiver in the
NFL because he had all the talent in the world.
Then got hurt at Alabama and Connie, you go when

(04:56):
you're out that long to be a forgotten guy. He's
got all the talent the world. He is terrific, and
still you now have a PED suspension and a gambling
suspension in his first two and a half years in
the league. Like this is a guy that's got that's
got to be able to understand. I gotta make better decisions.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
I can't. It's and certain certain guys you make a mistake.
I get it.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
But now these are two These aren't oh hey, I
got in a fight at practice with the teammate. And no,
this is gambling and performance and ants and drugs, the
two biggest things.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
The NFL say.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
You cannot get caught doing gambling and peds.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
What'd you get caught doing gambling and peds? What are
you doing? What are you doing? And you have not
proven yourself indispensable? Right? And then you are a part
of a machine. And in Detroit, they've got a lot
of other parts that are ready to step in and
take up your reps because we've seen it. Right, he's
had a couple of really great games, and then there's

(05:51):
there's a couple where he's been an afterthought. And guess what, No,
move on to the next guy. I got plenty of
wide receivers. You got the two headed monster in the backfield,
got Jared Goff playing a fish in football. Guess what next?

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Man up?

Speaker 3 (06:03):
You're a wide receiver, You're not a franchise quarterback to
where maybe there's more latitude because of the overwhelming talent.
He's great, but with the Lions. He's part of a machine.
And Dan Campbell's the guy that you know, you get
so many shots at some point you're you're done.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Look, he's a really tough But this tells you how
good the Lions are. And I'll tell you right now,
the Lions are the best team in the NFL. The
Chiefs have the best record, the Ravens seem like they're hot.
The Lions are the best team in the NFL top
to bottom offensively, defensively, the Lions are the best team.
They're not gonna miss Jamison Williams at all because his

(06:41):
target's what he does will get sucked up by somebody else. Right,
James will Is called one pass yesterday, Right.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
He had got one target. But I'm in Ross.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Saint Brown's the star and as long as you have
the one star wide receiver, Jared Goff is doing a
terrific job getting everybody else involved. And the more importantly,
he makes the right reads now all the time. That's
one thing I didn't think we get from Jared Goff.
He makes the right reads all the time. He knows
when detested deep, he knows when to dump it off
to Montgomery or Jamier Gibbs, Sam Laporter caught one pass. Yeah,

(07:13):
Jamison william Is, Samlaporter each called one pass yesterday and
it didn't matter because golf still went for two eighty
and two touchdowns and they scored thirty one points. It
doesn't matter. This Lions team is an absolute machine defensively.
Their biggest weakness going into this year was the secondary.
They seem to have fixed that. They are beating good teams.
They beat a previously unbeaten Vikings team coming off a bye.

(07:35):
The Lions are the best team in the NFL. And
if you want to talk about indispensable guys on offense,
we're gonna talk about him Almin Ross Saint Brown and
how good he is the ice triffic player right now,
Jamiir gives the best running back in the NFL. He
is the best running back in the NFL. The combination
of danger and excitement and electricity every time he gets
the ball. Now this is a He's fast, he's explosive,

(07:59):
he's untackleable. He can take it to the house. And
I know Dan Campbell has had a bit of an
affinity for giving most of the reps to David Montgomery
and then Jamier Gibbs comes in and kind of he's
the one aid to David Montgomery. But yesterday had to
have changed that, right, Not because of the Montgomery fumble
at the end. It certainly was a bad look. But
Jamiir Gibbs is a better running back in every aspect

(08:20):
of the game. He's younger, he is hungry. You see
it when he gets the ball. He is good in space,
he is good when he's not in space. There is
no running back more dangerous in the NFL right now
than him. And he had a huge game yetually one
hundred and sixteen yards receiving, and he was big on
the final drive catching two big passes out of the backfield.
There is nobody better, nobody, Dereck Henry terrific running back

(08:41):
right now. But it's not just about three yards and
a cloud of dust. This is about how do you
affect the game that you don't have to come off
the field, And at this point, Jamiir Gibbs needs to
be that number one back. David Montgomery spells him because
he has just watched the Lions play. He is electric.
You look at where he is on every single play.
Don't give it to him. Oh, it's almost like watching

(09:01):
Marshall Fulk when he first came into the league. That's
how exciting, that's how good a player he is. And
right now I take him over anybody else in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Yeah, I mean his injury history is the one thing
that's concerning. And what the Lions have played with the
thunder Lightning. What are they calling themselves now? It's Sonic
and Knuckles getting after yeah, yeah, yeah yeah? Are they
getting paid for that tie?

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Ind I'm trying to think in the times I've gone
back to Detroit if there is Sonic, Like, I don't
think there's a Sonic Burger in Detroit. It's all White Castle,
So I guess you have to be like, you know,
Cravecse or Slider.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
I don't know, but I mean we're going all Sonic
the Hedgehog of course obviously with the reference and andrews
Elba as Knuckles and all that fun stuff, so that
that works. But part of the David Montgomery sledge Hammer
thing is that it does soften up, you know, the
old thunder Lightning. Tiki Barker is someone that came up

(09:54):
in our pre show as we were talking to our
guy Rob Barker back when it was he and Brandon Jacob.
You have that change of pace where personnel on the
defensive front of what you're aligning to and expecting and
all of those fun things, and Gibbs living up to
the hype, no question about it in this season and
picking up I don't think you've seen the last of

(10:15):
Montgomery because again, you're playing for the long game, So
I don't know that Gibbs the guy in the middle
of the season, he necessarily wants seeing twenty five plus touches,
but certainly there's an electricity when he gets the ball
out in space. Try to catch him right. Linebackers are
gonna be a step too slow, and cornerbacks generally. We're

(10:36):
watching the watching it time and time again, guys getting
just shoved to the ground. We were watching it in
this game earlier. Tight End gets out to the edge
and just says, get off me and pushes the guy
about fifteen feet, almost like it was a sci fi movie.
So yeah, for the Lions, everything's working and back to
the original point jameson Williams don't matter in this thing

(10:58):
a two game suspension. All it's done is, uh, simplify
what Johnson and those guys in the offensive planning room
have to do.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Look, they have a lot of and that's the whole
reason why the Lions were so good to begin with.
They just have so much talent across the board, and
part of.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Its first guys they've had to swaf off that they
didn't have enough, they didn't have enough depth, sure and
reps for Look what.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Part of it is planning right, part of playing, Hey,
making the trade, getting the first round picks. Part of
it is getting a little fortunate boy, we get the
second tight end in the draft and Sam Laporta instead
of Dalton conk. Oh wait, that's really working out? Yeah
and oh yeah, hey maybe Tim Patrick coming and get no,
it's now suddenly Tim Patrick is catching clutch passes for
them and you know, finally healthy coming on contributing. It's like,

(11:41):
whoever you put into that offense can can be a
number two, number three or whether it's Josh Reynolds or
Tim Patrick or anybody like that offense.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
Just hums, yeah, pat Patrick really could have been useful
to a young quarterback like Bownash Sure patience.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Yeah, but I mean come up two season ending injuries.
It's like, okay, we have to move on.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
But wait, didn't take much time. No, I know, but
I'm about this obviously close when you made the decision. Okay,
breaking the banks, all right, but he was a nice possession.
I'm going to talk the ball and.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Run a couple of years if oh, you're planning on him, No,
I guess I get you had to move on. But
the Lions are just so loaded right Like, and when
I talked about, hey, Gibbs needs to be the number
one over Montgomery, this is not because Montgomery stinks. This
is because Jamior Gibbs is just that electric. David Montgomery
would be a number one running back on twenty five
other teams in the NFL. And and the wide receivers

(12:35):
some of their guys would be two's anywhere else in
the NFL. Like, that's how loaded they are. And defensively,
they figured out they're not an elite defensive team, but
they get off the field when they have to and
they make the plays when they have to. And again,
their secondary has had a huge jump from last year,
which was the big thing. And now they're finishing games.
They're blowing teams out, they're blowing teams out, they're winning

(12:57):
big games. They're winning big games over good team teams
on the road, like they are passing more tests than
the Chiefs, than the Ravens and anybody else. Right now,
if the Lions played the Chiefs on a neutral field,
they would boat race the Chiefs because Patrick Mahomes and
the Chiefs offense wouldn't have enough to be able to
keep up with the Lions. Think about saying that a
year ago, the Chiefs and Mahomes would not be able

(13:18):
to keep up with the Lions offense.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
They're the best team in the NFL. Yeah, I think
the defense. I think the defense would hold their own.
That's an interesting thought process. I'm gonna have to cover everybody.
Can't cover everybody, that's whole thing. Can't cover everybody, can
I get after Jared Goff. Can't cover everybody. But the
thing is you could. But the thing about the Lions,
wait to see the long term effects, No, Hutchinson, if
they don't make a move, No, that's true, that's true.

(13:40):
But to make a movie.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Yeah, no, true. But they also still went into Minnesota.
They were able to play well enough defensively to win.
Darnold was good. He wasn't great, he was good. Then
they kept them down. They go. They did have everything
they needed to do. I have no questions about the
Lions right now. And you just said last year and
going out, I know, right, but look ill, no, no, no,

(14:03):
I'm the godfather of the Lions.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Really, that's how that ended. I'm the godfather there. And
now they're like the devil. That's like right when they
went to cash and it's like, all right, I'm gonna
be the most famous person in the world. And you
go to strum the guitar and it's like the old Crambo.
All of a sudden, the guitar string broke. Exit out,
bout of Fresca, Exit swollen down. The Jason Smith Show

(14:26):
with my best friend Mike Carmen, live from the Tirack
dot Com studios.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
So there are just under two minutes left to go.
Believe it or not, the Bucks have the ball back again.
It is forty one thirty one and if you started
Baker Mayfield in fantasy, you are loving all of these
garbage points now, but still a town count the same,
still a ten point lead for the Ravens as they
try to hold off the Bucks. Here at the end,

(14:53):
you know, another touchdown on I Caick touch on ons
like hey, hey, they're good.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
They showed the graphic against the Ravens. Teams are two
of three on on set kicks. The rest of the
NFL oh for fifteen. Meanwhile, another field goal by Cameron
Dicker has the Charges within two. The Cardinals lead it
fourteen to twelve, still eleven minutes to go in the
fourth quarter. Coming up next, more on all the big

(15:16):
stories from the NFL, Jamison Williams reaction to Big Week seven,
and what we've seen so far Tonight is Lamar Jackson
gonna run away with the MVP. All that and more.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Next, Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the
ti rack dot Com Studios. H Chargers down two to
the Cardinals. Lad McConkie with a fifteen yard catch and
a first down to the Chargers kind of in business
without your gay nine minutes ago in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile,
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just fell to the Ravens forty

(16:02):
one thirty one. We'll get to the heroics of Lamar
Jackson a couple of minutes, five touchdowns for Lamar. However,
the balt the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We're one of the
top teams in the NFL coming into tonight, already playing
without Mike Evans who got hurt earlier in this game.
And Chris Godwin just left the game late with an
awful looking injury. If you are squeamish, do not watch.

(16:26):
He left with his leg in an air cast after
catching a pass late. And not to talk about foreshadowing,
but the play before this happened, Troy Aikman is talking
about this on TV, going, you know, when you're losing
like this at the end of the game, you're not
gonna win. You want to just get out of dodge, right,
You want to get out of dodge. And you know
this is something that Jimmy Johnson used to do that

(16:47):
if we're blowing you out and you're gonna keep trying
to throw the football late in the blow, we're gonna
send people at you. And so they were blitzing Baker
Mayfield and here's a play where it's hard to tell
what happened to Chris Godwin because ESPN's ad the work
to show the replay, and he was he was up
and conscious and everything else. Want to say that he
was up in cons he was had a you know,
an upset look on his face going off the field

(17:07):
to being carted off. But he goes down in a
heap and then his leg bends away. It's not supposed
to bend. And who knows when he's gonna play. You
gotta think he's gonna be done for the season with
an injury like that. Uh So, best thoughts to him,
of course, to Chris Godwin. But here's a great team.
The Bucks were winning big. They were a really good team.
And here they are now that there top two wide receivers.

(17:28):
You don't know when they're gonna play again. Uh joining
us now, I'm the hotline to break down all the
big news from the NFL this week. Longtime Front of
the Show insider. Check him out on Odyssey one O
five seven of the Fan in Baltimore, Washington Post. It
is Jason locking for it, Jay, what's happening?

Speaker 4 (17:44):
Bud's going on? Gentlemen?

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Hey, buddy, oh man, I'll tell you that that that
Chris Godwin thing was tough to watch, and you know,
it's it's crazy. Aikman was just talking about to play before. Hey,
you want to get out of dodge. Are You're not
gonna win a game like this?

Speaker 4 (17:59):
You know you watched so many of these games, and
I was just thinking about it even yesterday watching the
Washington Carolina game and some of the people who were
still in that game late, and I'm like, Jesus, Win
is really like, I know, you don't have an unlimited bench,
Like I know, it's not SEC football, and you got
kids on partial scholarships. You could just throw out there.

(18:20):
But I do cringe every week when you know, like, yeah,
could you possibly maybe somehow come back from seventeen down
with five to play or four to play? I mean maybe,
but after you don't get the second on side kick,
I don't know why you're throwing the ball. And I
don't know why you're throwing the ball with your first
team guys out there still, and especially on the night

(18:43):
where you already lost Mike Evans and that looked like,
I mean, with what he's been dealing with with his answering,
that look like significant. I mean, you can't like mitigate everything,
and it is a collision sport and it's incredibly violent.
But I see this all the time and it kind
of drives me crazy, and I'm glad that we don't

(19:03):
see this happen more often because it would an unfortunate loss.
But I mean, god would came into this game with
like seventy five more YAK yards than anybody else in
the NFL. He was arguably the dominant slot receiver the
first six weeks of this season, and he had come
back from so many injuries to get back to this point,
and he hadn't been himself for years, and then to

(19:25):
go down there and then Baker Mayfield scrambling with three
seconds left in the game and runs into Kyle Hamilton,
and I'm just like, the hell are we doing here?
And I'm like, what, nobody's still got the memo?

Speaker 3 (19:36):
I don't get it now from the others. Obviously, we're
going to have best thoughts for Chris Godwin. We get
an update on him coming up.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
Again.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
If you're squeamish, do not watch the video flip side
of it, though, Lamar Jackson five touchdowns. I want to
ask you this, Jay, because this is the question I
don't think anybody can answer. The Ravens have looked incredible
the last few weeks. How the hell did the Ravens
lose to the Raiders? Like, how the hell did that happen?

Speaker 4 (20:02):
Man, it's football. I mean, look, it was week two
and they had not integrated Derek Henry into his lineup yet.
But you know he was still adjusting to being in
the pistol that much, you know he did. They finally
started pitching the ball to him in the second half
of that game and having him run behind Ronnie's stanley
and that worked pretty damn well to the left side.

(20:22):
But the deep look their defense give up. I mean,
I know some of the scarb Responds defense give up
four hundred and seventy yards in this one, and that's
without Godwin doing much of anything, and with Evans missing
most of the games. So like, they can't defend running
backs at all. They're horrible defending the middle of the field.
Rokwand Smith is being exposed in coverage, like like they

(20:44):
they need to add to their defense before the deadline.
What they're doing offensively is magical. I mean, this is
the best football Lamar Jackson's ever played, which is saying
a lot considering what that young man's already accomplished. But
they've gotten major deficiencies on the defensive side of the ball.
And yes they have played a gauntlet of quarterbacks, but

(21:05):
guess what that's that's playoff football in the AFC. So
I'm going to be interested to see do they do
they added Jordan Hicks or somebody like that to put
with roqwand Smith instead of playing this second year kid
Trenton Simpson as much like you know they need. I mean,
Kyle Hamilton has not been the same guy this year,
and just part of that have to do with the
fact that they're not getting anything out of their free safety.

(21:27):
So do they need to look to upgrade up with
Marcus Williams there, you know, maybe add another corner with
Marlon Humphrey being hurt in this game, and we'll see
how significant that is. And you can never have too
much pass rush. But the defense lacked bite. I mean,
there's just no two ways about it.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
Let's go to the victors Sunday Night football. Russell Wilson,
did you like what you saw? Is their room to
grow with this or is it the function of.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
The Jets I'm surprised, you know, I'm I'm surprised that
that thing took off like it did. As that game
war wrong, it was pretty rough. He hadn't played in
a while. When you're already fourn two, you're obviously taking
a risk here making this kind of change. But the
deep ball came alive and Pickens was had energy. It

(22:16):
was fighting for fifty to fifty balls and men. He
was fighting for twenty five seventy five balls the other
way and coming down with him the deep you know,
the back shoulder played to the back of the end zone.
I mean, that's been right like that, That's been forever
with him, and he can still do that. Russ can
still push the ball down the field. He was a

(22:38):
little more active. I felt like that. I saw him
at times last year in Denver keeping plays alive and
using his legs a little bit. When they rolled him
out and booted him. That was effective. I still think
you can get justin field involved like they're you know,
like like Drew Brees was leaving the field for Taysom Hill.
You know, thirty six, thirty seven year old Russ Wilson
could leave on you know, hurt and goal from the

(23:00):
two and let Justin Fields take over. I still think,
you know, they could lean into some of that, but
that's the best Jail and Warrens looked all year. They
got those tight ends involved. Good old Mike tomlin Man,
I'm usually with him and I wasn't in this one,
and he's making me look stupid.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Well that's okay, because you've been right on with the
Jets so far and then making you look great, really great.

Speaker 4 (23:20):
Well yeah, yeah, I mean, how about what's happened to
the defense, which is what I told you was gonna happen,
and what didn't really make any sense? Like I mean,
if the head coach is just a figurehead anyway, make
hack at the damn head coach who cares to the
head coaches. And Aaron Rodgers is really the head coach, right,

(23:42):
But don't take the defensive coordinator and the other best
defensive mind both away from the defense, because one's now
the head coach and the other one is kicked out
of your building. And now you see what's happened to
him and the one hundred and forty nine russ YEP
rushing yards they're given up eat to the last tea
games like they're losing the battle of time of possession. There,

(24:04):
they're down a few corners and all of a sudden
they're getting picked on or you know, second and long
and guys are completing balls on third and law like
they didn't. The defense has gotten worse through each of
these games. There haven't been halftime adjustments of tamping anything down.
And you know, the offense is still scattershot, and it
is what it is. The dude's forty years old. He's

(24:26):
not four year old Tom Brady living in breathing football
twenty four seven, three sixty five. Like you know, the
guy didn't even show up for mini camp. Come on,
you want to go look at pyramids and snort or
you know, liquor sniffer whatever you know. I don't know
if Hyahaska do you drink it? I don't know the
apport in your ear. Whatever the hell he's doing to

(24:47):
get his rocks off. It wasn't playing football. There's no
adults in that organization, the owners of Buffoon. I mean,
it is what it is. It's not fantasy football. You
got a seven month off season for a reason. The
off seasons longer than the season. When we're in the
middle of October and you think you're gonna save your
season by firing your coach and bringing, you know, bringing

(25:09):
in a guy in the middle, you know, of the week.
Come on, man, you know the schedule eases up. I
suppose it takes care of business of the Patriots this week.
But they're kind of a joke, man, and they've kind
of been a joke for a long time. And starts
the top.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Wait a minute, Jay, kind of come on, man, cut
kind of Jason lockettbor with us one oh five seven
of the Fan U in Baltimore and of course Washington
Post at Jason lockeboor where you find him on Twitter.
Jason Smiths Show with Mike Harmon here from the Tirak
dot cowm Fox Sports Radio Studios. Lions. We can make

(25:51):
the argument best team in football right now, but they're
gonna lose one of their receiving options. Jamison Williams looks
like he's gonna take a two game suspension off a
report earlier this How much does that affect that offense
or is it just like a shark's tooth?

Speaker 4 (26:04):
Next man up, Well, it didn't affect him against the
number one defense for you know, by e Pa yesterday
because he did absolutely nothing for them, and they still
you know, beat Minnesota. They're you know, like at their
own game and did it in comeback fashion. Look, he's
a special player now and he's was starting to show

(26:25):
up more than just on gadget plays and stuff like that.
So it's a loss. But the offenses, I mean, the
offensive line is amazing. They've got more offensive touchdowns and
incomplete passes over the last three or four weeks, like
Derret goff Is in the zone. They needed a pass
rusher before the deadline, and I'm sure they will, you know.

(26:47):
I think the defense it's still used from from obvious
fortification with with you know, Aiden down for the year.
But I just that offense, Baltimore's offense, that they're just
on another They're on another planet right now.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
All right, Jay, Lastly, we saw the big news Brandon
Ayuk torn acl torn mcl He's done for the season.
The forty nine Ers go down to the Chiefs yesterday.
Scale of one to ten. If one is everything's going
to be fine and ten is absolute panic. Where are
you for the forty nine ers right now?

Speaker 4 (27:21):
Oh? They're Parrett. Look, I wrote about this over the
summer the vibes there were all like the last time
they went to a Super Bowl and Loft, they didn't
handle it very well. There was locker room unrest. Obviously,
guys didn't get their money when they wanted. They let
the contractual things drag out too long, the idea that
they were going to get a full year at you know,

(27:42):
the CMC and Trent Williams and all those guys. Again,
as beat up as they are and as they have been,
I think they were you know, full of themselves with that. Defensively,
they're they're middling, like they're not special defensively, and they
really weren't year either, And I don't really know where

(28:03):
they got better or where they've really improved in that regard,
and the conference has gotten a little better. So no,
I didn't think they'd win the division, and maybe they
still do because the Rams are obviously, you know, in
disarray from an injury standpoint, Arizona is no good and

(28:23):
the forty nine took Seattle they asked at their place
ten days ago, so maybe they still persevere. But I
you know, Block Party's going to have a whole different
challenge this year. I'm not sure that's going to bring
out the best in him. To me, they're you know,
they're they're a good football team, but they're far from great.
And I never thought they were going to approach what

(28:43):
they did in the regular season last year, let alone
the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
He's on Twitter at Jason Locke and four. That is
at Jason Locke and four Odyssey one oh five seven
the Fan in Baltimore, Washington Post Jays always buddy, appreciate it. Man,

Speaker 3 (29:04):
Now they're getting upset, Yeah, upset and fiery. You got
a guy with pneumonia.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
It's uh, it's a thing in the hospital. It's the thing.
It's crazy.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
The Cardinals beat the Chargers. They kicked the field goal
to win the game. The Lightning Bolts could not win.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
Imitation Boltman was pissed. Boatman bolt man. He was an impostor.
The Cardinals kick a field goal in the final play
of the game. They beat the Chargers seventeen fifteen. We
will have much more on this game coming up in
a few minutes, but the biggest play of the night
so far in the NFL at the end of the

(29:59):
Raven win over the Buccaneers, Baker Mayfield, Chris Godwin, Buccaneer
starters were out there. Buccaneers had the ball down ten
a little bit less than two minutes left to go.
They were down big, and that's what makes this look
worse than it is, because they were down forty one

(30:19):
to twenty four. But they get an on side kick,
they score a touchdown, they get the ball back, and
with less than a minute left to go, down ten,
they're driving with the ball near midfield. Baker Mayfield throws
it past to Chris Gobin, who catches it for a
first down deepsh in Raven's territory. However, Chris Godwin, his
foot bends at an angle that you do not want

(30:41):
to see.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
It is a very difficult replay. I'm sure you can
find it if he wanted to on social media. It's
not for the squeamish, and he was taking off the
field on a cart with his leg in an air cast.
Now it's fully conscious and everything. He had an upset
look on his face, like, man, I can't believe this.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
They're saying them reading his lips back to work, knowing
he's done.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
Yeah, it looks like his season's over. I mean, yeah,
it was. It was really really ugly, and I know
that the point and that the Ravens go on to
close out the game and win. Baker Mayfield takes a
couple hits in the final seconds. The thing is, I
get the optic of why are these guys still in
the game. You were getting blown out the whole game.

(31:25):
Why are they still there?

Speaker 3 (31:26):
You move on.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
Troy Aikman talked about it before that play happened. He said, listen,
you want to get out of dodge and stay healthy.
And I understand that part of it, but I think
it it looks worse because it was a game that
the that the Bucks were losing for the most part.
We were losing thirty seven to ten at one point.
But this is a ten point game with a minute
and a half left to go. All your starters are
going to be out there when you have the football

(31:47):
in a ten point game with a minute minute half
left to go, because you're gonna think we score on sidekick,
You're not gonna not try anymore. I think it looks
worse because, well, this game was a blow it. Okay,
well that was the time to get anybody out, right,
you want to get people out. Take Baker Mayfield and
got went out for the fourth quarter. When you're losing
thirty six cents, that's what it is, because that was
a score at the end of the third quarter. But
the Bucks wanted to stay in it and they came back.

(32:10):
Any team, if you're down ten with two minutes a
little bit less than two minutes and you have the ball,
all your starters are going to be out there because
you're still going to try to win. I mean, you're
gonna take it down to the fire to ten seconds left,
going okay, there's ten seconds left from a thirty yard line.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Let's kick the field goal. Because the field goal, get
the on side kick.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
We could throw a Hail Mary. You're still trying to
win the game. At that point. It just looked bad
because of the way they were getting blown out early.
But in the end, when you say, hey, we have
the ball under two minutes a minute half left to
go and we're down ten, We're still going to try
to win the game. It's an unfortunate thing and it
was awful, and all great thoughts go out to Chris
Godwin obviously as he gets back to being one of

(32:49):
the best wide receivers in the NFL and now he's
going to be starting over again. But like, that's kind
of how teams do it. I don't see that there's
anything it's it's bad luck. It's a horrible it's a
horrible thing to have happened, But any team is going
to try to continue to win the game in that situation.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
Yeah, it's a freak injury. You're not putting people in
bubble wraps. I know. Eventually, unfortunately for him, he goes
off in the air cast, and good thoughts on recovery
because he's gonna be a free agent. So that's the
other thing that was looming in all of this with
the dominance that he'd shown through seven weeks, but ten
point game Ravens, we talked about the graphic they put

(33:25):
up during the telecast. The rest of the NFL OH
for fifteen in terms of the on side kick, right,
you have to declare it all that stuff. Teams have
been successful two of three times against the Ravens, including
one earlier in the game for the Buccaneers, so the
opportunity was there, they were moving the ball. Well, whatever
the case is, we've seen this with the Ravens, talked
about it with their loss to the Raiders and with

(33:47):
some of their other near misses where the fourth quarter
they've had collapses they've had they don't have the shutdown corners,
they don't have the insurmountable pass rush, all of those
things that give you an opportunity to get back into
a game. And yeah, for it's unfortunate. Like again, I'd
probably watched it fifteen times and you're trying to figure

(34:08):
out exactly is it a plant and a turn like
where where exactly is the the injury? You just see
the leg go limp, and so it's an unfortunate piece.
But anybody that wants to yell about it saying it
was a blow out, what they were supposed to give
up at halftime, Yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
Mean, look if they did it after the third quarter,
if okay, fourth quarter, were down by four touchdowns, I
know everybody would say, I understand, I understand what you're doing.
We're not gonna win this game, but but you found
a way back into it. So it's it's awful, and
it's and it's and it's difficult to see. But I
don't think Todd Bowles was doing anything that any other

(34:43):
team wouldn't have done in that situation.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
So I think people are going to go through the
dopey win probabilities and all that to try to excuse
it and yell and curse about it all it's an
unfortunate injury.

Speaker 1 (34:54):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome. Coming up next,
boy do we have a big hot take coming off
the Charger and the Cardinals.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
