(00:53):
drama tonight, But I gotta be honest with you. A
lot of things we saw tonight. I knew was coming
up a long time ago. I knew it was coming.
I knew it was coming. I knew it was coming. Uh.
This is because in the middle of the summer, I
made a deal with the devil. You did, ye showed up,
you walked down to the crossroads. No, he came to
(01:14):
my house. Yeah, just getting to the door.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Well, yeah, you sure it wasn't someone. No, he knocks
on the door and he said a political candidate.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
Or you know.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
He says, hey, I'm we're you know, we're here the
construction company. We're doing some work in the neighborhood. Do
you need any Then I answered, do I did? He
turned in the devil and I was like, oh, okay, hey,
did he look like a goat? Did look like No, No,
just a regular dude. I think that's all. You never
supposed to never see the devil coming like you wouldn't
think this guy is a devil. He looked kind of
like a combination of uh uh, Tim Conway and Fred McMurray.
(01:47):
So he shows up and he says, I got something
for you, and I said, okay, what is this. Well,
here's what going to happen. I'm going to give you
an unbelievable Mets run to the nl I go, how
about the World Series? I said, okay, okay, mister Memphis
Memphis stuff. Okay, yeah, fu okay, I'm gonna give you
(02:07):
a great run to the NLCS. All right. He goes
and I'm not gonna give you a generic run. I said,
what do you mean? He goes, No, I'm gonna give
you like every week beginning with the end of the season,
the Mets are gonna hit the biggest homer enfranchise history. Really, yes, yeah,
I'll give you a Lindor. I'll give you a Lonzo.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Eh.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Maybe I'll give you Lindor again. I don't know. It's fine, Okay, great, Yeah,
it's gonna be awesome. You're gonna love it. Okay, great.
And I get this because my teams are long suffering.
They don't wait. He goes, oh, no, no, no, no, no.
I am getting a pound of flesh from you, and
I'm getting it back, and I'm getting back in triplicate.
I said, okay, what do I give back to He goes,
all right, here's what I'm getting back. The Jets are
(02:48):
gonna stink. Okay, the Knicks you've been waiting for that? Yeah,
I can't wait. Open the Night, Yeah, Opening Night. It's
gonna be awful. Okay. And Syracuse yeah, oh wait till
I pit game. You like com McCord. Yeah, Comccord's gonna
be great. Yeah, just late, he's gonna throw three pick
sixes against Pitt. It's gonna look a They're gonna turn
the ball over like eleven times in that game, and
(03:09):
all of a sudden, you're gonna go from hey, we're
in the also receiving votes category two. N you guys
are gonna stink and you're not even gonna be looking
up at a really good bowl game. Oh all right,
Well it's that's a lot to ask.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Did you have any room to negotiate as related to
this particular game, devil?
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Or is it full season? Nah?
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Because if it's just isolated incidences, yeah, I mean you
can weather that storm.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Like you could do anything. For a day, I will know.
I will know tomorrow with the knick so opener against
the Pacers. So you didn't read the fine print? Well
you know how long that thing is? I mean really,
it's I forget it, the fine print of the dead.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
It's like it's like pie, I can't can't financing a
TV or a computer back in the day with insert
electronics store here.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
He's like, here's your agreement, And I said, what if
I don't want agree? He goes on the devil. You
have to agree? I said, okay, So did he let's
get sign ceil it with a big mac.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
The devil's knocking on your door again. And right now, Jason,
he is.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
Yeah, he wants to punch another hole in that belty yours.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
He does. Okay, because I think.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
You had it bad, Now you really have it bad.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Okay. Well, because because it's the when he first pitched me,
is not over yet? Oh no.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
He also he's gonna get you with a good one
right now.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
You ready you got another one? Oh? Because he also
told me he said, well, look, not only that's gonna happen,
but the Yankees are going to the World Series. I
can't have that happen. Well, they're going. Oh and Sam
Donald's gonna be really good this year. Sam Donald. Yeah,
you're gonna have to wear that, so all your teams
are gonna stink after that. The Yankees are going to
the World Series and Sam Donald's gonna be good.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
And if that wasn't enough, Mike, you ready, yeah, hit me?
Speaker 5 (04:44):
Julius Randall thirty three points five rebounds four a sixth
five or six from three point lamps and the wrees
you wear that Smith.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Meanwhile, your guy can't play d hang on this system.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
At least you.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
Can't talk right now. You're wearing that the.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Devil did not mention Julius Randall playing. I did not
not for free No, because at that point he didn't
know that there was going to be the trade.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
So that triggered the jackpot.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
It's a freebie jack Baby.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Thirty three and the dub.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Yeah, that's the thing you didn't You had asked for and.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Prayed for the release of Julius Randall from your team
for a long time.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Julius, you had more wins than the Knicks right now.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Okay, they've only played one game, and the Timberwolves have
played two games and they lost the first one. They lost,
They lost the Lakers. How good can they be? Ah,
ask our boss? Too soon for that to soon? Tes soon?
Uh No, that's a free that the devil did not
talk to me about that. I think that is that's
like Elizabeth Hurley bedazzled changing the agreement. Well, I had
(05:57):
no choice. He said, this is a deal. I said,
I don't want the deal. He said, but this is
the deal, and hang you over the top of them.
You don't think, said you're in the will. I said,
I don't want to know.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
Other things were obvious. The Jets sucking, the nick sucking,
the Mets sucking.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Oh I don't think the Mets weren't sucking one.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
No, no, no, not.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Look, I'm not saying he did a lot of heavy lifting.
I'm saying it's a lot not until tonight. Yeah, Julius
with thirty three and a wind, that's.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
A lot of lifting.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
You watch what I do here. You watch the roun
Gino Smith goes on now with Seahawks. You gotta love that. Well,
it's there in the opening. I mean, they've got a
home date against the Bills this week. Deal with the
devil telling me, man, that's why did they never work out?
They never work out? You know, nobody.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
You get close, right, you start to see the fruits
of your labor. You know, the nlcs run some exciting moments,
and then just when you think you're there and you're
going to cross over into that next step, it's all
taken away from you, and rightly and thus lee so
(07:02):
like because the big Mac you got at the end
of that deal.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Yeah, didn't have any sauce, No, no, no, And I did.
I did try to wash my Syracuse upset and thists
away tonight with a chicken big Mac. Yeah, I gotta
get a chicken, Big Mac. Gotta get one. That's the
only thing that can save me right now. Chicken, Big
Mac got a chicken.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
I mean you had eighty he had held them to
eighty three yards at the half.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Eighty three yard. No, it's not the the chicken, Big
Mac was not related to the eco life.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
You're the one who brought that him.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
I don't know, hey, but it's cod. Yeah. But if
you have a chicken, Big Magre, Oh, that's great. You
know what I need I need you know, no, no, no,
I gotta have it. I need to contact Ralph Maccio,
who needs to play the Devil's Minion in a guitar
battle for my soul. There you go. That's how I
gotta do. That's what I gotta do. I had that
to happen, and he'll do it. He's one already. He
(07:53):
won one a few years ago, you know, back in eighty.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
I imagine he's available for a cameo to save your
soul and buy it back.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Hey, I need you to do that magic again, man,
because boy, my teams are terrible, and everybody we let
go now is really really good. I think you can
kick Steve Wizas, Let's go Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carvin liveth Tirek dot Com Studios. Now, speaking of the
world series kicks off tomorrow night, Game one in La
Dodgers Yankees, and it's going to be a world series. Look,
(08:24):
I know that the record has been in the past
for viewership was Cubs and the and the Indians went
They're Indians back in twenty sixteen. This is Yankees Dodgers.
This is the two biggest stars in the entire sport.
People that never watched a baseball game before are gonna
watch this and watch show. Heyo Tani. It's gonna be
that big a deal. It's gonna be a world series.
(08:45):
We talk about for thirty years. I get yes, the
Cubs and the Indians, that was a big who was
gonna win long star. This is Yankees Dodgers. Man, this
is the two biggest, the biggest of the stars in
the sport for the last one hundred years, and here
they are facing off for the first time. This is
nineteen eighty one. They have the two biggest home run
hitters are facing off for the first time. It's nineteen
(09:05):
forty six, It's it's Aaron Judge. It's Shoho Tani, it's
Mookie Bets, it's Stanton, it's Soto, It's everything you want
in a series. And I looked a lot of ways
to say, boy, can I really see the Yankees winning this?
And number one? I can't have the Yankees win because
my dad would be insufferable and it would be awful.
I was gonna say, how hard was it to objectively
(09:26):
look at it with that that's staring in the heaps? Well,
because then I would say I'll pick them regardless, because
then I'll pick them and if they lose, I win
if they went on. But I'm like, as much as
a blame old man. As much as I love my dad,
I can't have the Yankees because I can't have him
walking into the house every couple of days with some
new bit of Yankee World Series merchandise going, heh, you
know number one team in New York, Yeah, I got
this here. I can't have it. Can't ever every day
(09:47):
he comes with a cookie that's gotten twenty eight and
I can't do it. Can't do it, man, I can't
do it. I can't have the Yankees win, But I'm
going Dodgers in seven, and I always feel weird about
saying a team in seven, but this is going to
be that Titanic of a battle, and there's two aspects
that's going to tip it for the Dodgers. Starting pitching
(10:07):
is going to be a wash. Garrett Cole starting away
from Yankee Stadium, I think is a good thing for
Game one for him, But overall the starting pitching and
nobody really has an advantage. The two advantages the Dodgers have.
Their bullpen is better, it is deeper. We have seen
the Yankees get beat, and you don't need to get
beat more than once in the World Series to tip
(10:28):
the scales in the other team's favor. The Dodgers have
more pitchers to go to. They have been navigating the
postseason in a great way. I have more confidence that
their bullpen is going to outperform the Yankee bullpen. But
bigger than that is the Yankee offense has really been
restricted to at the top of the order. You got Soto,
Judge and Stanton, right outside of that they really struggle.
(10:52):
The Dodgers have those big sticks at the top right
we got Otani and Betts and Freeman, but they hit
all the way through the order. I lost, I chanced
the World Series because of Tommy bleeping' Edmund. The guy's
a jag. But oh eleven hits an eleven RBI and
the NLCS thes the NLCS MVP. See what the devil
did you? That's insane. I mean yeah, I mean I'm
gonna give you Tommy Edmond Jayson waiting at that eight.
(11:13):
But heroes are born every day. But this Dodger lineup
hits better top to bottom. They hit better in the clutch.
The bottom of the order is gonna get on bass,
so Tony is batting with runners on base. The Yankee
lineup can be contained because we saw it in the
series with the Guardians, but they had big hits from
their sluggers that were able to make you look past that.
(11:34):
But the the Yankee bats are in as consistent top
to bottom the Dodger bats are. It's a series for
the Ages and the Dodgers have a little bit too much.
They come home and they win. Dodgers and seven.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Cortet coming back for the Yankees. But for the Dodgers,
you mentioned the bullpen gonna get some added help. Looks
like Vessia and Gradrol are going to be acting Eric
Kanye as well. It's gonna be bid messis sub two
e ra on the year uh had the what do
they call it, the intercostal the rib injury, that thing
he's a lateral collateral area of the midsection according to
(12:07):
Gorilla Monster, the solar plexus exactly. So get all the
way through it that we talk about the bottom of
the lineup, particularly when you look at Will Smith, you
look at Keith k hernandez, what they've been able to
do and the big hits that they come up with,
Maximuntsy go on down the line that you find heroes
and they take good at bats like that's the one thing.
(12:28):
The plate discipline has been fantastic. Freddie Freeman will be back.
Looks like he's feeling better and ready for Game one.
And what's been a very odd year for him, right
the stuff off the field that he's dealt with, and
then obviously the ankle injury that that's felled him for
a few games here. So maybe back to his form.
All of that to say, line up one through nine
(12:51):
and the fact that you can get the Yankees hitters
to chase Dodgers hitters more more comfortable and better strategy
at least this point in the postseason that we've seen
Yankees a little bit more free swinging, which means the
opportunity to cut an inning based on the free swinging
(13:11):
nature the strikeout potential.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Give me Dodgers and six. So we both like the Dodgers.
Dodgers and six Dodgers in seven, Game one of the
World Series tomorrow night on Fox.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Frostburg's not happy. Well, I don't know if that was
more towards me or you, or if he had won
for each of us.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
For some reason, he thinks us picking the Dodgers, it
means the Dodgers aren't gonna win. Don't you know what
our success record is here on the show, We're like
sixty eight picking stuff Like we're like inhuman with stuff
like that.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
Yeah, and Syracuse is good at football.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
I did they were to know what did I tell
you one Monday? Did I like this game against Pick?
Speaker 2 (13:48):
You said that no.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Part of this time. We were talking about it as
we were.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Watching games and hanging out watching the Monday night football game,
and they did a promo for it, and you go,
this is gonna suck.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Yeah, I mean I didn't think it was gonna be
three six with Mike Kyle McCord in the first half.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
No, no, no, you're not killing good about the prime
time thing. Other than that you were going to get
to watch.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Them in front of it, like walking up to the
ocean and saying, the water's blue.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Really not, it's kind of a greenish. I don't know
where you're sitting at the trash.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
The runoff exit outbout of Fresca exit swollen Dome. Coming
up next. Mark Stein, NBA insider stops by he was
at Wemby's debut tonight and how did things go with
the Mavericks and their new look Triumvirate of Superstars with
Klay Thompson. All the NBA news Coming up next, Jason

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Oh We're drinking velvet right now Fox Sports Radio, The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Well,
have more from the night in the NFL coming up
in All the Way Down, but a big night in
the NBA, The new look Dallas Mavericks. Wait what now?
(15:14):
Now suddenly it's a trio of stars. Klay Thompson twenty
two and seven rebounds in the starting lineup for the Mavericks.
They beat Wemby and the Spurs one twenty one oh
nine Wemby seventeen and four or seventeen and nine, just
five of eighteen from the floor. Joining us now for
more on this game, the Marque Game of the night
(15:34):
end what we have seen so far in the NBA season.
Longtime NBA inside of Front of the show was covering
the Spurs Mavericks tonight, Mark Stein, Mark, what's happening, bud.
Speaker 6 (15:44):
Guys?
Speaker 7 (15:45):
Happy seasons?
Speaker 2 (15:46):
How are you?
Speaker 6 (15:47):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Wait? Well, as a Knicks fan, I waited so long
up until two nights ago, and now I'm just kind
of hit pause and I'm waiting for tomorrow night. So
there's that.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (15:55):
But are you you're a Yankees fan too? Aren't you?
Speaker 1 (15:57):
No Mets fan? I'm happy with the run we had,
but now I gotta watch Yankee in the World Series. Yeah,
it ain't easy being me, Mark, he's also a Jets fan.
Speaker 7 (16:09):
Mark?
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Hey, uh, what what'd you take away from from seeing
the Mavericks tonight? Obviously seeing Clay Thompson how he's going
to be integrated was going to be a big thing.
What'd you take away from what you saw?
Speaker 6 (16:21):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (16:21):
Really, the MAVs, it was a very productive start for
them because you know, Clay didn't get to play with
Luca in the preseason at all. Luca had the calfkntusion.
He got kicked in a pickup game the day before
Media day, tried to get through one practice. After media Day,
they diagnosed him with this calfkatoosion and that basically knocked
(16:44):
Luca out of the preseason, but he was you know,
the Mavericks and the Spurs they started tonight, so they
got a couple extra days of practice, so Luca was
able to get a slew of practices in. But we
hadn't seen Clay with both Luca and Kyrie together. So
for Clay to have this kind of start, pick threes
(17:04):
and a comfortable win and just to get this thing
going in this way when basically Luca is chipping off
a lot of rust. I don't think anybody's getting too
carried away because it's not like San Antonio is projected
to be a playoff team in the West, and this
is a super deep West. But I think the MAVs
are more than happy with being able to start this
way and win comfortably. And you know, it's a long season.
(17:29):
I mean, Kyrie didn't have to come back in the
fourth quarter. I mean, they got a lot of stuff
done that they were hoping to get done.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
You mentioned with the Spurs not exactly being heavyweights in
terms of standings twenty two wins a year ago, Chris
Paul comes in, what are reasonable expectations for wenby year two?
Speaker 7 (17:48):
Well, yeah, no, Look, I think people do expect them
to be a much tougher out because you know, they
brought in Chris Paul, they brought in Harrison Barnes, and
so they you know, last year they were just so
young and just had no veteran know how whatsoever. So
even though Chris Paul is thirty nine, you know, he
(18:08):
still obviously knows how to run a team. And so
I actually expected San Antonio to look a lot better
than they did tonight. Now they're obviously missing Devin to
sell that's a big miss for them. But I have
to say, you know, I've seen now. I had the
good fortune of being in San Antonio last year, same
matchup on opening night, Wemby's first game in the NBA.
(18:31):
You know, Derek Lively actually won that matchup. Then the
Spurs come to Dallas and Wemby has the unfortunate situation
where you know, he and a ball boy tangle and
Wemby ends up being held out of the game because
of this pregame warmups collision or crossing, however you want
(18:52):
to call it. You know, Lively got the better of
Wemby in another regular season matchup, and so you know,
just I was kind of hoping tonight, mam am, I
going to get my chance here to see Wemby, the
alien who just does crazy stuff. But I have to
say the MAVs really guarded him well. They kept when
(19:15):
min Yama out of the paint, They were active switching,
forced him into you know, maybe forced or coerced him
into a lot of threes. Now, Wemby didn't play much
in the preseason, and he said afterwards that his conditioning's
not where it needs to because he got such little
run in the preseason. But uh, yeah, I was I
(19:37):
thought it. You know, it was a very competitive first half,
and you know, again you don't want to make judgments
off the first night. But you know, there are a
lot of people around the league who think the Furs
can win in the mid thirties and again be a
much tougher out because they've got some vets there. But
we definitely did not see that in the second half.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
Yeah, That's the thing for Wemby is that I would
say that by the middle of this season, he's in
the conversation of is he now, you know, the most
talented player in the league. Like, I think, another half
year of getting us understand obviously getting back in the shape.
By the time we hit the midway point, maybe the
All Star break, it's wow, Wemby's gone from being some
(20:19):
kind of guy to maybe being unstoppable.
Speaker 7 (20:22):
Yeah. I mean, look, people around the league, I think
would tell you, you know, he's heavily or widely picked
to be Defensive Player of the Year. I mean, that's
among my colleagues and people who do what I do.
I mean, I think if you look at you know,
right projections, you know, it seems to me like a
lot of people are picking Wemby to be Defensive Player
(20:42):
of the Year. You would think he's going to have
a shot at an All Star birth and All NBA
birth And again, you know it's I know, I'm I
know it's feudal to sit here and say, don't jump
to conclusions after one game, because we all want to
jump to conclusions after one game. We finally have some
regular season evidence look at, and we want to try
to You know, Denver is going to hear nothing, but
(21:05):
you know how much they've flipped and how much trouble
they're in after only one game. That's just the nature
of the way this league functions. But yeah, I mean
big things are expected from Wemby for sure. Individually. You know,
they don't really have a team around him yet that's
going to be able to make playoff noise. Again, the
West is just two dang deep. But yeah, individually, I
(21:25):
think Wemby would expect to contend for all that stuff,
Defensive Player of the Year, all NBA, all start. He
should be in the mix for all of those things.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Something we won't be saying well about Bronnie anytime soon.
What did you make of game one? Bronni is three minutes?
G league doesn't open for two weeks, is how I've
kind of been looking at it. Mark, What say you?
Speaker 7 (21:49):
Yeah, I mean it's gonna be very interesting to see
how the Lakers play this thing, because you know, he
obviously needs time in the G League. Are they going
to send him right there? You know, the history making
more is out of the way. You know, do they
plan to use him or you know, try to get
into the G League as fast as possible. But look,
(22:11):
I know that's the natural information. I want to talk
about that, but I mean we should be talking about
Anthony Davis. I mean, Anthony Davis was so good in
that game. And even though it's early, I mean it
has been I think it's been a week of statements
in the NBA, and you normally wouldn't say that in
Week one of a season that runs for eighty two
(22:33):
games per team. But the way Boston started against Jason's Knicks,
and the way Tatum looked on opening nights, what Anthony
Davis did against Minnesota, and what Oklahoma City did tonight.
I mean, for Oklahoma City to go into Denver, no
Hartenstein and Chet Holmgren to play the game, he played
(22:54):
at both ends. Again, Denver had a rough summer, losing
Contavious Callwell Pope and not really replacing him, and there
was a lot of concern about Denver shooting Denver's bench,
but Denver is still a really tough place to go play.
Nobody wants to play there a way to Denver is
as tough and hoping thing assignment as you can get.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
And to see the.
Speaker 7 (23:17):
Thunder win in the manner that they did. And just
postgame when you see all of their guys together for
the postgame, an interview like that again, can you make
a statement in the first three days of an NBA
season that goes all the way through April. I actually
think we have seen some teams make one as loudly
(23:39):
as you can at this point.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
And the insider Mark Stein, our guest, the Jason smithcher
with Mike Carmen Lofrom thetyreck dot Com studios. All right now,
the story that's been hanging over the first few days
of the NBA season. Obviously, we saw the seventy six
ers start the year without Joellenbiid, without Paul George. We
know George is gonna be out another game or two.
The NBA investigating why Joel Embiid's not available. We had
(24:02):
the nationally televised game. Are they trying to send a message,
is this is this just something they have to do.
Like it's such a weird thing because you would think
the Sixers want Joel Embiid to play opening Now, it's
not like always exhausts they want to arrest them. What's
going on behind this? Mark?
Speaker 7 (24:17):
Well, look, I think it's I think there's a couple
of ways to look at it. By the letter of
the law, the you know, the way that the participation
policy is written, the league is essentially duty bound to
investigate it. And Okay, even if even if they hit
Philadelphia with a fine, Okay, great, that's that's that's I
guess a story to talk about. But you know, the
(24:38):
much bigger concern for Philly is that they feel they
need to take this approach already because the Sixers summer.
I mean, I try to, I cannot even if you
guys ask me to come up with another team that
met as many offseason objectives as the Sixers did in
the summer, Like, I can't even give you one. You know,
(25:01):
like the Sixers they made Maxi wait a year to
sign his deal to create cap space, the one guy,
the only player really at a level worthy of Philly
spending all that cast space with Paul George, they got
Paul George, then they signed Maxi to his max deal.
Then with nothing but minimum contracts, they make a slew
(25:25):
of really good bargain signings and then you know, there
was this other story that got very little publicity, but
in Philly it was a big dealing. No, are the
Sixers going to move to New Jersey? They squelched that.
They got an arena deal in their city. Like everything
Philly could have dreamed of in the offseason went their way,
including Embiid getting a gold medal. But then the season
(25:46):
starts and then Bed's not ready to go, and Paul
George hurts his knee, and it's like, it's just it.
It just opens all the conversation and skepticism about this team.
They're already dealing with it from the jump, and you know,
it inevitably makes you wonder can Billy be healthy when
(26:09):
it matters. They still haven't even gone to the conference
finals in the Joel Embiid era, and this is obviously
not an ideal start. So it's like, you know, they
might get punished, they might get a fine, Like that's
the least of their concerns at this point. That the
concern is they got to get their stars on the floor,
and you know they're gonna say they're not worried. And look,
(26:32):
maybe the Paul George thing was just a bad luck injury,
but to be in this position with embiid as it,
you know, so early in the season, it's it's gotta
be a worry for them.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
He's on Twitter at the Steinline, that is, at the Steinline.
Check them out on substack as well. Mark Stein dot
substack dot com. All the latest on tonight's opener with
the Mavericks and the Spurs and more. Again Mark Stein
dot substack dot com. Mark is always buddy. Appreciate it, man.
We'll talk you soon.
Speaker 7 (27:00):
All right, guys, you know you know.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Don't They talked about teams that want to make a
statement out of the gate, and look, and I firmly
believe that because clearly the Celtics wanted to make a
statement the thunder making state, and they all the Lakers
wanted to make a statement. I get it. I just
sit back and go, Okay, you can make a statement
opening night, but that doesn't mean you can't make a
statement over the course of the season and and how
things go. I told you, I am not I'm not
(27:27):
that upset after the like I'm not that up set
after Nick's lost opening night. Okay, maybe they're looking ahead
to the Pacers tomorrow, but you know, look, it's a
long season. Nothing is won the very beginning. But yeah,
you see teams that say, hey, we've been we've been.
The biggest takeaway is, hey, we've been together all summer,
whether even if it's not physically but mentally, and we're
all on the same page as we start this season,
(27:48):
and we want to get out to a big lead.
We want a coast to the playoffs, and then we
want to really send a message when when it comes
time to win. And I believe that from some of
these teams. But keeping that up all the way, like
the Lakers keep it up all the way through Brady Hard,
that's a long road. That's hard, There's no question about it.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
Right.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
Talked about the Caruso and all of that in the
postgame interviews with OKC, and certainly the Celtics and their
celebration coming out of the vexation of minutes played during
the Olympics being left off Olympic teams. All of that.
You can ride the emotions and say I took that personally,
I don't know that you can do that staring into
(28:26):
a mirror for seven seven eight miles long. I mean,
maybe it's enough of a slight because you're looking ahead
to the next contractor you're looking at the guy that
might have gotten one instead of you, or the playing
time instead of you. Men, motivations, we all have to
find him each day right.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Exit out by the Fresco Exit Swalling Dome, right now,
a guy who is so unbelievably motivated. He's gonna tell
you everything trending in the wide world of sports. It's

Speaker 1 (31:50):

Speaker 8 (32:09):
Hey, Jason, Yeah, what do you go? Does it hurt
to know that your team really sucks?
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Which one?
Speaker 8 (32:14):
All of them?
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Well, not all of them.
Speaker 8 (32:16):
The Mets are good, are they?
Speaker 1 (32:18):
We made it to the NLCS. We're two games away
for the World Series.
Speaker 8 (32:21):
Yeah, not go postseason?
Speaker 1 (32:22):
That's pretty good? Sure? What I mean?
Speaker 8 (32:24):
Why do you want to go there if you lose.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
I don't know that they're one and twenty one loss.
What you did? You said you made it to you
with the Devil, and that's as far as you were going.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
Far as you know.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
I didn't know, So now you're a liar. NLC. Yes,
I knew. We're going to the NLC. You're gonna go
see the Devil again.
Speaker 8 (32:39):
Must suck that. Julius Randalls is star now too.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Huh. He was always good? No, yeah, no, he was
always good.
Speaker 8 (32:45):
Like Sam Darnold.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
I'm okay with you. He was never good.
Speaker 8 (32:48):
Are you a massachist?
Speaker 6 (32:50):
You know?
Speaker 1 (32:50):
Listen, I've already decided I'm just gonna buy more Mets
gear in this winter, and nothing from my other teams,
because they all.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
Tell you people you're buying it you they give it
to you for free.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
Never really thought he was gonna go back into it.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
I'm going back through the drive through in fifteen minutes,
self medicaid.
Speaker 8 (33:09):
Careful for those big macs by the way.

night football look, the Rams save their season with a
win over the Vikings. Of course, it's a little bit
jaded because of the missed face mask call that should
have resulted in a Vikings first down at their twenty
five yard line with about a minute forty five left
(33:54):
to go Roger Instead, the uh face mask was un
called and the result of the play was a safety
for the Rams and they go on to win the
game thirty to twenty. Not that it would have been
a call that won the game for the Vikings, but
it clearly it ended and you gotta get those calls right.
And we talked about this earlier Trey Blake, who was
(34:16):
the official who didn't see the twist of the neck
of Sam Donald despite the fact he's got a clear
line of sight and is staring at Sam Darnald and
I can't How do you miss the face mask? When
Donald's head his turn so he's facing you. Yes, I
was behind the play. Yeah, but the face mask got rip,
so he's actually turning it on right out. You're going, hey,
(34:37):
face mask, hey, face mask? Like what kind of a defender?
Speaker 3 (34:41):
Walks by it with his hands on top of his head,
almost like he's gonna be in tears if Oh no,
what did I do?
Speaker 1 (34:47):
What's that? Yeah? Wyron Young walks away go with his
hands on his helmet, going, oh now I'm getting flagged
for that? Hey?
Speaker 3 (34:53):
What do they call those guys the movie Wolf's with
Pitt and Cloney fixers? That was This is how you
have your league get scrutinized in very bad way telling
you I don't buy for a second.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Oh, we didn't see it. None of us saw it,
none of all. We couldn't say you're looking right at
there's only four players there. It's not in a scrum
of people. I can't see it. It's a load of crap.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
So the fine on the official needs to be equal
to that of Young in the pink slip. He's gonna
get from the league, and.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
I'll tell you this not only that, but you can't
you can't give me that excuse. Yeah, we didn't see it,
so we couldn't call it. No, I get that, But
you have to see it. You can't miss that.
Speaker 6 (35:30):
No.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
But if we didn't see it, no, no, But your
job is to see it. You have to see that.
You can miss a call earlier in the game and
something you can miss a call in the first quarters.
You can't miss that kind of call with under two
minutes left to go when you're looking right. You can't
miss that when the entire stadium sees it. But you, oh, sorry,
the one guy getting paid to actually see it.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Yeah, no, none of it.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
We didn't see it. What it was.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
It might be the biggest highlight you'll have at a
home team in a season that won't be shown on
the jumbo tron.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Man, I'll tell you. And of course we can't show
it like we're celebrating. It's an unreviewable play because of
the penalty, because of the face, even though it's a
scoring play and all scoring plays oh technically reviewable, but
the face mat I mean the NFL, for all the
rules they put in with replay, it is it's reviewable.
But we still every week there's like three or four
(36:19):
plays where we go, hey, yeah, no, it's not reviewal,
we can't look at that one. How do we still
have this many plays that are unreviewable. Uh, but let's not.
Let let's take away from the fact they look where
the Viking's gonna win that game? It was still they
still had so long ago. They had to drive down
the field, score two point conversion, win in overtime. The
Rams saved their season. And we told you last night,
tonight was high noon for the Rams. If they lost
(36:42):
tonight two and five, the Cooper Cup rumors out there,
he was gonna probably be gone. He would be a Steeler,
he would be a Charger, he would be somewhere else
as a reason why you heard these names out there
here at Matthew Stafford's name out there as well. But
we told you, if they win, they save their season.
Because now they're just one of many underachieving teams in
the NFC West, but they're getting healthy and trending upward.
(37:05):
The forty nine ers are not, the Seahawks are not.
The Cardinals are the Cardinals All of a sudden, winning
tonight saved their season. And this affects the rest of
the NFL because now everybody else needed a wide receiver's
got to look someplace else. For one. The Rams have
saved their season. It was high noon for them. They
came up with a big win. I told you they
were gonna why I picked them last night and they
come out with a w because they were the more
(37:27):
desperate team and they looked great. They ran the football, well,
they threw the football. Well, tell them, you man, the
red this is they. It was the biggest Thursday night
game of the year because they save their.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
So well, the shadow figure at Puka Nakua showing back
up kind of helped.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Now well again, Cooper Cup coming back, we U Cup
was coming back.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
Nikua was still the giant question mark until early today
and all of a sudden, not only.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Is he back, boy, he was back.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
Like the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
I picked them to go to the Super Bowl because
they have all that talent catching passes and.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
It was all on the sideline again, Marcus Robinson. Here,
some time you look at your tight end position has
been solidified. Kyn Williams is probably the best player that
outside of the fantasy world nobody talks about because he's
overshadowed by the two receivers and Matthew Stafford. So he
got something good McVeigh greater than Flora's for tonight. And
(38:20):
now the super genius talk begins again, and maybe it
back on the path. You can make another deal with
the devil before you go. I might, Maybe I might,
I don't know. I want to make sure you get
ram it all day, Ramlan, because they still ow it's
a Super Bowl ring.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
They do, they do, they do. But if I well,
the Devil's not going to renegotiate the deal we had
because I got the Mets to the NLCS. He's got
me with the Jets. Suck the Knicks get blown out.
Syracuse throws something.
Speaker 5 (38:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
If you've already sold your soul, you can't sell it
a second time to say, hey, can you relitigate that?
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Can I have that kind of power? Can I re
mortgage my soul and get it back so then I
can bet it to you again? Can I be that boy?
That's great? It's at five o'clock on front of you
Ax out of Fresca at Swollen Jason Smiths Show with
Mike Carmen Life the Tireck dot Com Studios. Coming up next,
my buddy Ben Maller. This is Fox
