Hey we got we had Lord of the Rings a look,
because you know there's no NBA tonight. NBA took the
night off because of Election Day. Yeah, most stuff done
it all down. Ty Shirt's got like a Lord of
the Rings marathon on on a bunch of different TVs

(01:05):
or so. I can't even tell you you could put
these on, like, you know what when we used as
Rudy win No, no, you know we played that game
Titan and we played Nickelback or Creed. We played that
game and I tried to figure out who it was, right, Like,
you could put any scene from any Lord of the
Rings movie on and I don't know if I can
tell you which one it want. Oh, I have no clue.
I can tell you. I don't know Return of the King.

(01:25):
It's hard. Thirty five years since I read the books,
the Two Towers and the movies. I watched a long
time Desolation of Smog, Right, that's one of the small Yeah,
there's one of the greatest tighters. Oh, there's a directors
There was like four and a half hour. Yeah. No,
every one of them has got at least an hour.
There's a Zach Snyder cut of everyone. I have every
one of them. Yes, yeah, it was one with two rings.

(01:50):
This started when Elijah Wood was actually twelve. We finished
he was thirty seven. His transfer, well, we have seen
several movie franchise and that was the deal right where
it's like we're gonna chronicle this over years. It was
so long. Martin Freeman went from working for the US
government with t'chala to Now he's in He's in the

(02:11):
Desolation of Smog. He's Frodo? Is he Frodo? Who is he? Who?
Wou know? He's so many different? Who is Martin Freeman
in the in the New Ones? Oh he's not Frodo,
ty Sue? Who was he in the New Ones? Who
was Martin Freeman in the New All Lord of the
Rings movies? Huh? Who was his character? Blimort? You don't know? No,

(02:31):
very good, Baltimore, very good? Yeah, right, with no nose, right,
just had the slips for a nose. Yes, yeah, yeah,
sure it was bald Yeah, okay, Darth Maul yeah yeah,
he played Bilbo. Then they cut him in half and
his bottom was a spider. Oh he was a gil
He was Bilbo right, Billow? No, no, Bill, it was
Bill bow Baggins. That's that they changed it BILLI no, no, no,

(02:52):
it was Bill's so wait wait wait wait, it's Bill
bow Baggins. That's what it is. I sure wasn't Bill
Bo Benson. No, no, no, no, it was no, it's
George Benson. I thought it was Bill and Robert keone
was Benson. It's Bill Bo Baggins. Like that's say it's Bobaggans.
That's a big base Bo Baggan. Well, I watch people,

(03:13):
Oh bill Bo Baggins, he was Billbo. No, it's Bill
Bo Baggins. See I thought you were going to pronounce
it like Jim Bob Cooder Bill bow Bags. Oh side
show Bob oh Okay. Uh So today was NFL Trade
deadline day and oh, by the listen something. I really
I'm wrestling with this because you know, election day is

(03:34):
such a big deal and we're not going to talk
election here. Obviously, if you want an election, you'd be
you know, be looking at other stuff. But looks like
they're not going to call the election tonight. So listen
to us, and we're talking about all the big stuff
going on in sports. Uh. I mean, today's a big
day with the NFL trade deadline day and the first
college football playoff poll is out and that comes out

(03:55):
an election day. Yeah, like that's you know, that's it's
too much like when the Super Bowl happens, they don't play. Hey,
here's the first round of the NCAA tournament, Like you know,
you don't do that. Yeah. But see here's the thing.
Whether you like the football of Super Bowl week, Right,
you like the commercials, you like the food, you like
the gathering. Everybody likes that. Not everybody wants to watch
election results, so you give them alternate programming. Yeah, but

(04:18):
there's still because it's still a TV show. But it's
not like Okay, the best way I can, I can
I can describe what it's what Election day is like.
I think for all of us, it's like we're just
sitting around with like, you know, okay, here's this. You
know how I said, like you're waiting for the mister
Plow commercial. There is that what I think? He is
a boozer. You better ahead to the plowkame nicely done.

(04:40):
You are bonding and lightens, aren't you, mister Plow? Shut up? Boy? Uh?
You know I said when when? When every day in
the playoffs, when the Mets were playing, I was like
my wife like, can we go here? Can we do this? No?
I can't. But the game's not till four thirty. I'm
talking about going here at eleven. I can't. I'm locked
in on the Mets. Okay, I got I got. I
gotta sit at home and not do anything more than

(05:01):
play a game on my iPad, maybe surreptitiously watch a
television show and have lunch. You can't ask me to
go like to home depot and pick something out or go.
I can't do it, man, I am locked in on
the Mets. I can't. This is where there's nothing to do.
And I kind of felt like that today everybody's locked
in on the election. See, well you can't give me
that though. Here's the playoff pole, and then here's and

(05:22):
here's an NFL trade that I would disagree. I think
you'd have a lot of playbacks of the new episode
of Shrinking Sunday's Penguin if you haven't caught up. I
think there's you can go through the viewing habs. No,
that's fine, I don't know. There's a lot of alternate programming,
is what I'm trying to say. That's stuff you could
watch or not watch. But this is like, hey, the
pole is out. You can't wait. No, the pole is out.
We have to react to it. Okay, we'rect to the poll.

(05:43):
That's good. We have trade deadline. But that's it. It's
alternate programming to the election. No, but it's not all.
It's stuff that I really wanted, you know, that every
lot of people, all sports fans, really want. Hey, I
want to want to make sure my plate is not
overfilled with stuff. I'm like, I want to go to
a buffet and just not load up too much on
my first time. You're saying that to a great matter

(06:06):
of NFL fans who clamor into the fact that you
haven't given me a six box option with my my
YouTube TV subscription for the NFL, I only get four plus. Yeah,
but the hell goes to a buffetan doesn't load up,
that's right. Well, no, but when he had to whole
point no, but it means you get to go in
line a bunch of times. Yeah, I don't want to
get locked into stuff that I'm not gonna like and

(06:27):
feel like I have to eat it because I Well,
that's why you move away. You gotta have alternate programming
to the election results. It may be distasteful to you
at any point during the even they learned. So here's
the college football poll. You know, here's this, I mean
the other day it was a full NFL slate. What
do we get, Hey, here's the Golden Globe winners. Like,
no pomping circumstance. Here's a press release. I learned. I

(06:48):
learned that lesson the first time I ever went to
a Brazilian tourist Korea. Right, one of the places that come,
they start running around the giants. They cut at the
table and they cut the meat off for you. Oh
my god. So the first time I go, right, it's
you know, you sit down and the weight the waiter
comes over. It's okay, you know about this. Okay, here's
all there's all our buffet style sides on there and yeah,

(07:10):
go to chow and they say, okay, so over there's
a buffet and you take all the stuff there and
then of course you know, the serving staff will come
around with all different cuts of meat. They'll tell you
what it is. You tell them if you want some,
if you if you would like more, you keep the
like it's green if you want more, red if you
don't want more. So the first one I was like, okay.

(07:32):
So I go and I go to the buffet and
I'm like, oh wow, these cheesy potatoes look fantastic and
this is and I get it. I come back and
I start eating and I go, what the hell am
I doing? The hell? You got? You got no value?
And I understand that that's the whole thing. That's a
lot cheaper than the meat. And so a halfway through
my plate, I stopped. I said, what the hell am

(07:52):
I doing? I'm here for the meat, so I am
I can't eat this? And did you end up with
meat sweats before the night? And I'm just like, come
on and bring meat over. Do you say that when
you go to Arby's too and bring that five for
five from here for the meat? We have the meat?

Speaker 2 (08:08):
No?

Speaker 1 (08:08):
You know, you know the one thing Arby's does. They
don't always give you enough sauces. Wow, say you know
I need more horsey sauce. Yeah, because what they do
is give these They give you these really tiny things
to put the horsey sauce in. And I'm like, I
need more than just a dollop of this anymore. You
got to give me something bigger. You got to give
me something that's like a like a like at least

(08:30):
a shot glass word that I could put stuff in
instead of just tiny Jason, how much horse he is
going on your curly fries? Dude? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, yeah,
horsey sauce. Stop you guys, saw cheese on the horsey
sauce on the meat on the sandwich. Put cheese on
your tombstall. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah, that's

(08:51):
what we do. When he's done, won't come instead of flowers,
start visiting me, ladles and cheese. Just no, just leave
a slice of cheese. Oh, someone's here to visit, leaving
cheese and leaving cheese for him. They'reaving cheese. They're rat
people keep bringing cheese. I don't know what it is.
This guy Alex tyshirt, he's bringing keenwan. Nobody, the animals
won't even touch that. I don't know what that's all about.

(09:12):
But when the Chief shows up, they coming to get
That's the first Kingwah reference on the show in a
while though, So again, it's it's like, you know, there's
certain things that you are ready for, that you want,
and the other stuff just kind of gets on the way.
And I got similarly, get in the way both of
these things today, like one of them. Okay, okay, first
college football poll? All right? Five? Trade deadline day? Come on,
many could have had that. Tomorrow, could have been that tomorrow.

(09:34):
Every day he gets right, good guys want to play
on Sunday If you're really worried about it. Could have
the trade deadline last week. Doesn't need to be now,
could could make it earlier, more trades be made. It's
made the trade deadline a little bit early. It's not
like the election was scheduled. I mean, each league operates
in its own little vacuume with blinders on as to
what's important to them. Loca. All right, So the NFL

(09:55):
has the rule right this Tuesday, this blot and they
said we're gonna win our share of eyeballs and clicks.
Now that being said, one of the trades we haven't
gotten to yet. On the show, the Steelers getting Mike
Williams from the Jets. Aaron Rodgers seemed really happy about it.
I think Aaron Rodgers said he's still on the team.
I didn't know he was still there. He did say

(10:17):
there are three good teams in the NFC North. Yeah,
I see, he was laughing at So this trade. I
really like it for the Steelers. Not because Mike Williams
is gonna come in and be a terrific player and
suddenly he's gonna catch five or six passes a game.
That's not who he is. This is Mike Williams Mike
Williams is one of those players who you don't even

(10:39):
feel like, like the game starts and then you forget
about him for like two and a half quarters, and
then he'll make a big catch over a dB for
a first down in like third and fourteen, and he'll
tiptoe out of bounds and go well, and Mike Williams
with an incredible catch. All that keeps that driving life,
like wow, Mike Williams. And then he'll disappear again and

(10:59):
you will think about him again for the next und
But then sometime in the fourth quarter he'll make a
really big catch or touchdown in the reds and go, oh,
Mike Williams. Like, Mike Williams is one of those guys
who he's like a ghost. He just he's invisible for
wide swass of the game. And then he'll show up like, oh,
I forgot he was even playing today, and he'll make
a big catch. You go, how is a guy that

(11:21):
big with that kind of catch radius? How is the
only catch like two passes a game? How is he
invisible for most of it? But for the Steelers who
are really gonna need red zone targets And that's the
big thing right as look as good a player as
George Pickens is when he can hop on one foot
and stay in bounds. You know, Calvin Austin is not
somebody that's gonna move move the chains on it. Pat
Fryermuth is okay, but getting a big red zone target,

(11:43):
this is where Mike Williams is gonna help. And he's
gonna have weeks where he has two catches for nine
yards and one touchdown, but that one touchdown is on
some kind of fade route or a big scramble play
where he's able to body the ball and get a touchdown.
That's why he's a bit. He's a big get for
the Steelers. Jets aren't gonna miss him. Hey, We'll always
have the red line. Hey, red line. Mike Williams, remember

(12:04):
the red line. He went off the red line like,
I'm not gonna miss him because clearly there was no
place for him on the team. You have two incredibly
stud wide receivers and Adams and Wilson Coraley. When he's
not dropping the ball over the goal line. This confidence,
now I believe that Alan Lazard's gonna come back because
they probably wouldn't have done that if they didn't think
Lizzard was gonna return. So when Mike Williams all the
way down there on the depth chart, yeah, they're gonna

(12:26):
move him. And I know the two sides have been talking.
You get right up to the trade deadline. I'm sure
the Jets wanted to see about Lazard's health and can
you trust Malachi Corley And clearly you can and you
can't after last week. But this is this is a
nice addition for the Steelers because it's going to help
their red zone to the to the tune of every
couple of games, like every two or three games, they're

(12:48):
gonna be in it in the fourth quarter because of
a big catch he makes. Now, don't expect a lot,
but once in a while he comes up with a
really big clutch play. Well. But that's the thing is
that we watched it during his career here with Chargers.
When he's available. He's a guy that can make the
fifty to fifty ball work downfield, right, big plays, yack,

(13:08):
all of that stuff, and the average yards per reception
years ago, like he led the league, right, So what
you have with Russell Wilson, what's the narrative that keeps
going on? He's a guy with the great deep ball,
the moon ball, all of that stuff that's tailor made
for a guy like Mike Williams. That is not what
Aaron Rodgers does. He takes his shot occasionally, but mostly

(13:31):
it's about timing. It's about route. It's about precision and
that efficiency in that route. That's that's not Mike Williams game.
As evidenced by the red line. This is go downfield.
Red line for me was always you got up and
down and in Chicago, right, it's one of the tracks

(13:52):
on the l So there you go. Take it down
to good old guaranteed raid or whatever the hell they
call it these days. Yeah, the red for the Jets forever.
But yeah, Mike Williams fits what they want to do.
Plus your red zone efficiency, yeah, it's it's a move
to to try to maximize what you've got. Russell Wilson, Yeah,
look like I said, he's like he's someone that maybe

(14:12):
every three games he'll have a big game, affecting play
well when you have to respect him as opposed to
I'm sorry, Calvin Austin. And it's gonna major space look,
and it will open stuff up inside the red zone
to wear Okay, we need a big We need somebody
on Mike Williams, and that's gonna maybe open things up
a little bit more for doing it running back out

(14:34):
of the backfield or friar move in the middle. So
it just gives you somebody more to account for because
it was a it was a low price. You're talking
about draft picks are in the fifth, sixth, and seventh round.
Those are the ones that's like, yeah, okay, you have
an extra pick whatever. Uh So it's not a lot
for the Jets to give up for a guy, and
and for the Steelers, they needed him way more. They
needed somebody. They clearly weren't going to go for a

(14:54):
premium guy at the position because that's not how they're
built and that's not how they want to win games.
Mike Tomin doesn't want to win throwing the football. He
wants to win the most boring way possible. And so, yeah,
this is a move that every two or three games
you're gonna go, wow, Mike Williams with a clutch play.
But he's not gonna be someone you play in fantasy.
He's not gonna be somebody that's gonna suddenly, oh, stand
up and rewrite the record books in Pittsburgh. That's kind
of who he is. Enjoy the anonymity. Enjoy how he

(15:18):
can be invisible for two three quarters of a game
and then suddenly show up like he'd been there the
whole time. Where the hell have you been? Oh? I've
been waiting down here for you to throw the ball. Oh,
all right, thanks, Mike, will make a big playing quietly.
Just to tack on to the Williams trade. They also
did get Preston Smith from the Packers, while he won't
start so long as Watt and Highsmith are healthy, having
depth in that division because they're back half of this season.

(15:41):
Schedule's loaded, so you're gonna need the extra pass rushers,
fresh bodies to get after Burrow, to get after Lamar
exit out bout a Fresca exit, swollen down. The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, live from
the Tirak dot com studios. Coming up next, the first
college football poll playoff poll of the year is out.

(16:01):
We'll tell you why already. The twelve team playoff is
better than any fourteen playoff we had. Wait, what that's
coming up next? Right here? Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

(16:22):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
Friend Mike Harmon Live from the tiraq dot com studios.
All the polls are closed. The polls are closed, and
we now know the winner this week is Oregon number
one team Whack in the first college football playoff ranking.

(16:45):
Pol yep I called to you about Whack. You're still
mad that it came out today and you getting new
You okay with it? You know, either this or I
get one thing, Either this or the trade deadline. I
would have been okay with but both. Yeah, but then
we'd have to investigate collusion. And what kind of compensation
you have to investigate collusion? You know what kind of

(17:08):
compensation went? You know, you get to go today, but
if you win, I can't win kind of thing. Now.
If you wanted today to be the day for the
NFL trade deadline, okay, because Tuesday and day off you
can make trades. A guy gets an extra day with
a playbook and maybe could make his debut on off daday. Yeah,
it's an off day you get after. You could have
had the first playoff pull tomorrow, could have had it

(17:30):
on Wednesday night. Could it's Super Tuesday. But there's a
ball it would make Super Wednesday. He'd make Super Wednesday suck. No,
why do you think they have Cyber Monday in addition
to Black Friday. You gotta maximize stuff. They don't have
Cyber Friday at the same time as Cyber black Friend.
No Cyber Monday, you're at home. Black Friday, you're in

(17:52):
brick and mortar. That's what you're doing. Not anymore. No,
that's what black Friday is. Once upon a time, you're
going inore went Stand used to oh, I don't go
at midnight the next day, and it was kind of
Walter's like, A you're not doing that.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
I wouldn't do that to begin with. I go in
when I'm not saying you it's the collective. You meetthead
okay meet head, dummy up will you.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
H?

Speaker 1 (18:17):
But the first college football Playoff poll has come out
and not real surprising as far as the teams at
the top, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia, and Miami. Those are
your top four teams and then teams that we have
seen in the top ten, top four, top five throughout
the year make up the rest of the top ten Texas,
Penn State, Tennessee, Indiana BYU and Notre Dame. All right,

(18:41):
then the then you're rounded out with Alabama. I don't
forget about Alabama. Uh uh Alabama and Boise State. And
then he had a bunch of teams outside with one
and two losses SMU Texas A and m LSU Pittsburgh, Colorado,
Washington State, Clemson at six. Oh, by the way, Dabosweeney

(19:01):
couldn't vote today because they had his ballot all screwed
up because his name is William and his kid voted,
so they said you can't vote. So we had to
go through all kinds of bells and wis real name?
How many people? How many times do you think it was? Hey,
Dabosweeny's here to vote. They're six and two. He's talking

(19:21):
about nil. No, he doesn't get to vote. Well, it's
really tough. No, that guy doesn't make him go through
a bunch of hoops. He's six and two this year.
We'll let him vote eventually, but let him go through
a bunch of hoops. If he was undefeated. Hey, come
to the front of the line and vote. But let's
make him go through hoops. Stand there and let me
ask you questions about your policies going forward on nil Daddy,

(19:44):
embrace it now, coach, can you give me your address? Great?
Thank you very much, ZIP code great? Thank you, area
code great? Thank you. Do you think you peaked with
Trevor Lawrence? Okay, thank you? What happened to dj Uianna La?
He was supposed to be great? Okay, thank you, Kate Klubnick.
Why did it take him so long to get good? Okay,
thank you. You can go vote now, coach, go ahead,
go vote well, answered asked and answered, I mean he's

(20:07):
their availability media availability. But if it's matched up, like
that's the unfortunate part where you're not actually using IDs.
It's like I can prove who I am. No, we don't.
We don't do that. It looks like you. But boy,
it says William on your driver's license, dabbo if that's
your real name. Well, here's the whole bit. The part

(20:28):
of it is you run into it is like I
can show you an idea. It's like, yeah, we don't,
we don't do that. No, no, no, no, sorry, sorry
sorry William. We just match your address and that address
is already shown as you so you're out, you know. Eight. No,
I think I could look past the address. I think
we could figure it out. Hey, six and two, six
and two, I think you got to prove support outside

(20:49):
looking in number twenty three. You win. Next week, we'll
let you vote, but the election will be over. I'm
telling you how to vote. That's the only way, the
only way you can do it. You want to vote here?
Can you post market today just so it still counts?
But yeah, I mean a lot of movement to come.
So all of the handwringing that goes on, I mean
it's a it's a great TV show. No, And here's why.

(21:10):
It's already better than any four team playoff we have
had in the fourteen playoff realm. The big question coming
into this year with the more playoff teams was all,
you're watering down the regular season and the games don't
mean as much, and we have seen that to not
be the case. Number One, it's not like people aren't

(21:31):
what you're worried to. Oh people aren't gonna watch because
a game like Ohio State Penn State's a really big game.
But boy, what a big game it was when there
were only four playoff spots. Now I don't think less
people watched. It was still the game of the week.
People are still watching good college football games, and people
understand everybody's still watch college football college football, And yes,
I know I'm trying. I'm watching Syracuse on the CW

(21:53):
on Friday. You're still finding game on the CW on
True TV wherever than placing it. They interrupt the second
quarter to bring me the best of Dawson's Creek. Really
and I just sit through that before they went back
to the game. I mean, that's what I say. Please
get to hear the theme songs. Hey there's Josh Jackson.
I need to see Colin McCord. So we're seeing that

(22:16):
that no matter what viewership wise, that's not being affected.
People are still watching big games. Although it's the other effect, well,
the specialness is gone and the having to win every
single week is not what it was because the college
football regular season was the best regular season in sports.
Because the pressure to win every week, you may be

(22:37):
able to stub your toe once twice, there's no way.
Is a lot of pressure. But that's been replaced with hey, yeah,
you can stub your toe once. It's okay. No one's
gonna stop thinking of Notre Dame. Can't make it. What
this is done, allowing you to stub your toe once
to add twelve teams is this has increased the field
of who can play in the playoff. You have quadrup

(23:00):
the team. More than that Quinn tuppled. What's that to
scept tupledceptuble? Syest tuple sceptuble. You have septupled the crew.
Because anybody really in the top thirty right now in
college football has a chance at the playoff. Now, obviously
you have to win the last month. Hope people lose
in front. You can make it up to your conference
championship game, or be the number two team in your car,
whatever it is. The top twelve spots. This opens it

(23:23):
up to so many more teams. You look at the
top twenty five, there's nobody in the top twenty five
that doesn't have a path to the college football playoff.
Even Army has a path if they beat Notre Dame.
Guess what, Guess who's getting in the playoff as long
as they're undefeated at the end. Because met Navy's still
really good. You they lost a Notre Dame. Guess what,
Army's making the playoff. There's nobody in the top twenty
five that can't win out. Get some out. Obviously, you

(23:45):
need teams to lose in front. But this is how
the football season goes. This is just like what it
is in the NFL. You get a little bit of
help you can get in the playoff. The four teams
and the have to be so so mega elite. That's
been replaced by more interest in teams, more teams that
think they can make the playoffs, whether you have a
chance or not. The big games are still the big games.

(24:05):
And guess what, there's more big games because Colorado Kansas
State is a big game, right Pittsburgh Syracuse was a
big game a and mn LSU is a big game.
Because you're talking just getting in the top twelve. You
get that third loss and suddenly it's hey, man, we
really need a lot of teams to lose to get this.
So instead of one loss, it's two losses and that's okay.

(24:26):
I mean, look, you even got guys like me that
I'm sitting here going okay, Syracuse plays three games games
they should win. If they win all three of those games,
they're probably in the top twenty five. And then they
have Miami the last game of the year. If they
beat Miami, who's going to be in the top five.
Suddenly they're up. They vault up to near the playoff,

(24:47):
and if they make it into the ACC championship game,
like suddenly, I go from a year ago I would say,
my team never going to have a shot at the playoff.
Why the hell am I even thinking about this. I'm
hoping the college football would break up into a two
t thing like it's Premier league soccer. Hey, you're Syracuse
in the second division. Maybe they get a chance to
play for the National championsip at some point. But now
I'm sit here going, we went out such something. Oh man,

(25:09):
if we had just beaten Stanford, Man, we'd be in
the top twenty five, we'd beat it. And this is
what it does for so many schools. Now, however realistic
it is, there's still chances, there's still bigger games still playing. Attention.
The big board means so much because, let's face it,
you have more big games on a weekly basis than
you ever have before. Last week, Ohio State Penn State

(25:31):
was still the biggest of the big games, right, but
Miami Duke was a big game, and all these other
games where teams are sitting around, Hey, Colorado isn't a
big game because they have two losses. Any team with
two losses is in a big game because hey, that's
gonna eliminate you from a playoff consideration. And there's conference
play and he's got two loss teams playing other two
loss teams. Whereas last year, think a game like a

(25:52):
Colorado Kansas State game, but who cares you both have
two losses. You're not going anywhere we go. Now it's whoa.
That's like, that's like winner take all. Right, that's a
huge game to watch people play. And so all of
the concern for what people had for the playoff, we've
just seen the first poll and already you can see
it's better. Well, but that's it. Right when you can
go down into the final two to three weeks of

(26:14):
the regular season, in some of those games that'll be
over Thanksgiving weekend, that it still has juice, Yeah, that's
good for the game. Baseball adding the extra wildcard for
the final month of the season where normally you're an
offer also ran. If you're within striking distance of five hundred,
you might have a shot at one of those spots.

(26:34):
And who knows, if your pitchers line up appropriately, all
of a sudden tada, you're causing problems. We've seen it
in the NFL. Right, you get your shot at a wildcard.
Go back and look at the Eli Manning Giants on
some of the other squads that have made runs late
in seasons still having a puncher's chance of climbing their
way in basketball hockey, same thing. As much as we've

(26:56):
got to chuckle about the fact that the playoffs are
three months long, have opportunity and cities that are still
paying attention for college football, same thing. So you have
the bowl season, that's all fun and good, But here
you look at the back end of the top twenty five,
and even if you're in the also receiving votes in
the AP pole, et cetera, that you still have a

(27:16):
chance that if things break right and you just take
care of your business. Right, what three weeks ago called
Colorado's gonna be a playoff team, Well, they got some
work to do. They need to take care of their business,
and they're gonna need a couple of losses. But you
know what, it's still not insurmountable to go and do it.
You've got all those one loss teams at the back end.
I hope Army just keeps wearing the skull and crossbones

(27:37):
helmet that they had this last week. Yeah, yeah, those
were badass. I want Army Notre Dame to mean something.
I don't think so, because, quite honestly, I think Notre
Dame is one of those teams outside of the top four.
They're going to look out like like they're not gonna
they don't have to play the conference championship game. They're
gonna beat everybody else on the schedule, and they're gonna
they're gonna beat Army, right even though that's in aral

(27:57):
neutral field. But Notre Dame is to go to the playoffs. Well,
but this is what they always said, hold on that
Notre Dame would have that path right just to get
into the final four, expand it to twelve. Just where
would they be right? Where would were watching is a
big thing. Where would no Tre Dame be if it
was the top four teams in the playoffs, they'd be
on the outside looking. And you try to make an
argument for them over Texas. It's like, can you really

(28:19):
argue No, you can't. But now they're they're comfortably in.
But that's it. You'd have to argue them over not
just Texas, but you've got like four teams. Yeah, well
a couple of teams at the top, Like you couldn't
argue them over Oregon, but you could argue them over
a couple of other one lass teams. We're still gonna
have the battles within those conferences, right, the sec are
going to continue to cannibalize each other, but to a

(28:40):
point where two loss two losses doesn't doom you. I
know a lot of people were complaining about Indiana's look
at any like they're they're waxing people, no question, but
no history and a bad schedule to start you beat
Ohio State. All of a sudden, everybody jumps on board.
So this is a good talking point for all the
talking heads over the next twenty four hours. Exit out

(29:03):
about a Fresco exit swollen dome, the Jason Spitzer with
Mike Carmon already that you can see how the twelve
team playoff is better than the fourth dude playoff. It's like,
already I could see Isaac loehen Krown tonight is better
than Isaac Lohencron from last week. Tell well, No, I
don't know what he's drinking, but I think it's a
it's a it's a better performance from I low tenor

(29:23):
performance drink, and he's gonna tell us what's trending in
the wide world of sports. I low s drink.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
Drinking is always involved in my performance, as longtime listeners
can certainly tell. Holy cow, yes, the guru of said practice,
he rode that baby all the way to the Hall
of Fame. Damn ridy did cub fan and a bud
Man anyway. The first college football playoff rankings of twenty
twenty four were revealed on Tuesday evening. Oregon was number one,

(29:51):
Ohio State second, Georgia third, Miami at number four, Texas
was fifth. Rounding out the rest of the top ten
Penn State, Tennessee, Indiana at number eight, BYU and Notre
Dame else We're in college football Tuesday night, fellas. Oklahoma
State head coach Mike Gundy apologized for recently suggesting that
fans critical of his three and six Cowboys can't pay

(30:13):
their own bills but have an obligation to complain about
others because it makes them feel better. On Tuesday night,
Gundy tweeted, quote, my intent was not to offend any
of our fans who have supported this program through the years.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
Unquote. He's a man, he's almost sixty, he is now.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
So just to find out how that apology went down,
I checked the comments below that tweet. Garrett comment and quote,
don't apologize, We just want to win, Casey posting simply
can you win some games now? And finally, Brad adding
bro just tried to subtly slide this in while the

(30:52):
entire country is watching election results. Brad very savvy on
social media anyway. The World Champion law Los Angeles Dodgers
revealed that shoey Otani suffered a torn labram in his
left shoulder when he was injured during Game two of
the World Series. He underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday
is expected to be ready for spring training. The NBA

(31:14):
suspended seventy six er star Joel and Bead three games
without pay for shoving a member of the media in
the locker room after a game this past Saturday. Finally,
the NFL trading deadline came in won On Tuesday, Steelers
made two deals. They acquired linebacker Preston Smith from the
Packers got receiver Mike Williams from the Jets. The Washington
Commanders acquired cornerback Marshawn Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints.

(31:36):
Guy's all yours, thank you, ILove The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Carmen Lodge the Tyrack dot Com Studios.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
Coming up next. Well on my Bengo card today. In
addition to well, it's election Day and we're in the
college football poll. Then we have NFL Trade dead light Day.
We also had a big suspension in the NBA at
one of the biggest superstars. We get into that next
right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with

(32:03):
Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific,
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the tire rac dot Com Studios. Well,
I didn't have Joel Embiid getting suspended three games on
my Bengo card, but yet here we are another story. Uh,
look for a season, he couldn't start any worse for

(32:25):
Joel Embiid. The guy hasn't even played a game and
he's already gotten some spell Like. That's hard to do. Man,
Your team sets you up in a bad spot from there,
that is difficult to do. Oh did you hit somebody?
Did you? No, I haven't played yet and you got suspended. Yeah,
but did you yell at somebody? Did you run in
a four? Oh? Was there a fight and you came
on to help your teammates? Nah? What'd you do? Uh?

(32:47):
I kind of jumped on and swung at a reporter?
Oh well, okay, but that's exactly what happened. A story
that gained a lot of traction over the weekend. Joel
Embiid got into with a Philadelphia and Choir reporter who
wrote a column on Embiid and about Embiid not playing
and mentioning in his column Embiid's son and Embiid's late brother.

(33:11):
Embiid said that was over the line. They had a
confrontation that turned somewhat physical, and now he has been
suspended for three games. This is the season started for
Joel Embiid, the seventy six ers being investigated why he
wasn't playing. He's very upset. He said, Oh, I've done
enough for everybody in this blanking city. This has just
been an awful beginning of the season for Embiid and

(33:33):
now here he's got a service suspension before he comes
back in place. Well, you can get into the investigation
and the history of this when it comes down to
the sixers and the NBA announcing the investigation. One you
immediately before you played a game start talking about all
the games you're gonna miss. That's not good forgives. No, no,
it's not you know, going back a few years when

(33:55):
every day it was all right, which guy's not playing?
And in your national Game of the Week week on
Saturday nights, bingo card who's actually showing up? You're cheering
for laundry. Don't know. We were even barketed the stars.
It's like when you go to job interview and they go, hey,
We're like, I just want to let you know if
I start the job in two weeks. In a month,
I have a month long vacation. I'm going to Europe,

(34:17):
and then later on this summer, my sister is getting married,
so I'm gonna be gone for a week then and
then also at the beginning of the fall, I have
a two week trip to uh Hawaii plan so just
so when you hire me, I'm gonna miss all this time.
And my brothers and I always had to at least
two Bears road games, so I'll have to work in
fridays off I had as travel. I got Bears packers,

(34:38):
I got Bears Lions. Yeah. But but yeah, So that's
when you're starting the season and telling everybody all all
the games you're already gonna miss because we need to
manage your workload. You've already said, and you flipped off
the league, I mean before you start, so you have
that in your back pocket. And then you have this

(34:59):
investigator into the encounter with the reporter who he had
one line. He decided to get cute guy guy with
the history. I guess of this. I don't know the
man's full body of work, but from a reputation of
a little bit of an agitator, uh and got a
little bit uh untoward in the All right, if you're

(35:20):
going to talk about work ethic, you know you need
to be and setting an example. You need to be
on the court. And it's like you could have said
that without invoking the dead brother and and all of
that just taste that that go out better out at
loll but it got his name right, like if you
wanted clout there, it was uh. And the thing is

(35:42):
is that I just want the happy mbeedback because as
dominant as he is, when's the last time he's looked
happy on a basketball court and on a court like
surrounding anything. I mean when he was catching home run
balls at the home run Derby because that we did
a giant it was like the oversized one you you
do for a comedy sketch, but it fit his hand.
But he's always hurt. He doesn't play in a whole season.

(36:04):
You don't know when you're gonna have him. He's always
seems to be upset off the courts, not being done
for the team, the team not winning, You're not doing enough.
There's a lot of conversations about that, Oh, embiid is
not enough. I need more help, I need this. And
then when you piggyback that with what happened this summer
in the Olympics. He had a DNP in the Olympics
and that didn't go well, and now he starts the

(36:25):
season he's upset. All the stuff I did for the city.
Now they want to investigate the team, and now he
gets into a physical altercation with a writer like I
just want the happy Embiid back, and I don't know
that that's gonna happen. Because I don't have a hot
take for you on this, I can just tell you
how it looks like Embiid's career is gonna go. And
it's not gonna be one of those Hey, there's gonna
be a bright light somewhere. Is that he's thirty years

(36:48):
old and Embiid is someone who has been banged up
his whole career. How many years does he really have left?
I mean five maybe, because again all his being banged up,
how many more years does he have left. He's gonna
play for the Sixers for the next year or two,
and it's gonna go like this. It'll be somewhat rocky.
He'll be in and out of the lineup, and what

(37:08):
we've seen from him is what we're gonna see the
next couple of years. Then the Sixers will get to
a point where they're gonna say, you know what, it's
not worth it anymore. Embid is not the player he was.
He's breaking down what we're gonna trade him away or
let him go in free agencies. We can signd someplace else.
Because his contract goes another couple of years. They may
trade him before a deadline, depending how the team goes.

(37:29):
We're gonna build ourselves around Tyrese Maxi or somebody else,
and he'll go to another team and it'll be a
big headline. No, come on, we're good man, We got
big Modega. We're good man, We're good. Wanted him so
much sand would you board up and down the Santa
Monica peer, We're good. We got to New York. So
he'll go t thousand miles away and didn't make much sense,

(37:50):
but you were still trying. He'll go to another team
and he'll be just okay, And that's kind of how
his career is gonna go. Maybe another team after that,
and then he'll retire when he's around thirty five in
the next five years. Will go kind of like Kevin
Durant when he left the Warriors. Oh, it's gonna go someplace.
Now he's gonna know. He goes to the nets and
couldn't stay healthy, couldn't lift them up. Now he goes

(38:12):
to the Suns. He can't lift them up. He'll probably
get traded again at the deadline. I'm telling you, it
looks like he's gonna be a Laker, god guarantee. But
that's kind of how Embiads's career is going to go.
It's gonna go rocky like this for another couple of years.
The Sixers will then say we're moving on. He'll be
a minor headline. Oh, he's gonna go someplace out We
get to it because people will do the whole thing.
Oh look at the back of his basketball car. We're

(38:33):
getting Joelle Embid. Yeah, not quite that guy. You're getting
a guy in his mid thirties who's banged up, and
he's gonna slowly find his way to a point where
he has to retire. That's how Embiads's career is gonna go. Yeah,
And that's a difficult part of watching it because when
he is on the court, still can dominate, still takes
over games, but there's just so much unpleasantness surrounding him.
First game back is gonna be against the Knicks. As

(38:55):
the NBA Cup returns for another year, we'll see who
wins this year's in season tournament. To raise a banner
but for Joel Embiid and Nick Nurse, is not what
he signed up from. Like he got rid of Doc,
you moved on and you thought, Hey, this is it's
gonna be all smooth sailing. We got a good bass

(39:18):
and a good squad. Instead, you got Embiid getting back
and forth with the fans, which is never a good idea,
especially Philadelphia. Any more questions, Yeah, this isn't what I
signed up for. Dude. Let's talk by out. How do
I get myself fired? What do I need to say?
Exit out, bout of Fresca, exit swallowing down. The Jason

(39:39):
Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the Tirech dot
Com Studios. Coming up next. We had a big story
developing story on show. Heyo Tani. Plus, we do have
to get a little bit political because somebody running for
a big office that listens to the show. We have
to tell you how that person's doing. So let's go.
It's next right here, Jason and Mike. This is Fox
Sports Radio.
