(00:52):
this game last night. Oh the blah blah blah. Yeah
take the over, I don't care.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
You would think these teams could put some more bleeping
points on the board. Man, if only the game and
the point totals were as good as the Ravens uniforms,
we would have a splendid, splendid game going. Oh you
know me, I like a little deeper purple. I like
a little more smoke on the WATERDJ Yeah, No, I
get it, choke, but they are resplendent. I'm a bit

(01:20):
of a highway star DJ okay. I'm knocking at your
back door, tj Okay. But five weeks ago, nobody bothered
to play defense. What we have seventy nine total points,
So going down to fifty three, I'm like.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
That's still a huge drop off. Doesn't matter. We're going
for it on fourth downs. We're causing chaos. Yeah, and
still fourteen seven as we start the second half, four.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Fourteen seven at least, and even that we got the
gift because you had the holding penalty in the end zone.
Otherwise that was gonna be an empty trip. Deontay Johnson
has caught a pass. Hey, he looked like he was
just gonna catch his first pass of the night, but
he slipped and fell. Second past the night when he
slipped and fell and Lamar Jackson was going to throw
to him. So this is where we sit right now.

(02:05):
Very early in the third quarter, Bengals were a fourteen
to seven lead over the Ravens. And look, I picked
the Bengals last night. Look his games are close. Uh
six and a half is a lot of points in
a game like this, And so far we're getting the
offensive performance from the Bengals that I thought we were
gonna get. Joe Burrow looks pretty sure.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
He's moving well in the pocket, extending plays and you
know he is captain ats for you.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
There he is. I'm telling you what you like against
the spread. That is Joe Burrow two. He looks pretty
good against a really bad defense. And Chase Brown is
running the ball well enough, He's got a touchdown running
We told you it's going to be his backfield. He
got that gift. Man, I am who they called? That
flag came out like really really, I don't think you
can call holding on a defense when they're gonna throw

(02:55):
from the one. I think that goes out the window.
But I'll tell you the Ravens, it's been a bit
of a shock because the Bengals defense. Look, we know
how bad the Ravens defenses. We understand this Bengals defense
is just about the same well, but coming into the
year were struggling.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
We liked lou Ann.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Rumo squad until they started playing football, and for the
first time week, those pesky games are getting the way
after that season. I mean, it looked really good.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
We had it all mapped out there, coming off a
strong twenty twenty three campaign with some additions, and and
then they came out and they've they've stunk every week
until here, all of a sudden, there are Wizards against
Lamar Jackson. Suddenly haven't figured out they had nine touchdowns
between these guys five weeks ago.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
I know, it's it's insane, and I thought, oh, we're
gonna be like twenty one seven a halftime. No, we
come strolling it.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Nah.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
You know I won a thirty for thirty on Vegas
odds makers who know, Like they just sit there and go, yeah,
I just knew. How did you know? I just knew.
I just knew. Uh So again, what the what did
the over goo off that field? Ffty three and a half?
Fifty three and a half, about fourteen to seven, fourteen seven,
plenty of football left? But look, the one thing to
tell you about this game, and this has been some

(04:09):
kind of play that just happened. If you like offense,
Joe Burrow has just hit Jamar Chase for a pass
over the middle that should have probably gone for about
fifteen yards. Right, that's about a fifteen yard completely let
me run alongside you. It's it's wow. And watching the

(04:29):
way the Ravens just refuse to tackle Jamar Chase. He
cuts through about three guys and goes all the way.
It's a seventy yard touchdown to make it twenty one
to seven. There are four guys surrounding him and they
just kind of stand there like what are you gonna do?
What are you gonna do? You know, they look like,
you know, they're like they look like like if my

(04:49):
dog gets off the leash and I want to get
him before he goes into the street, Like how I
approach him? No, no, I'm saying, if he's on the
leash and I'm walking with him and somehow if he
gets off, like if he sees something, he runs against something, okay,
just making sure yeah, no, no, like and he's awfully
but I want to get him before he goes into
the street. And how you approach him, Like I kind
of approach him like okay, kind of a wide stance.

(05:10):
My arm's not going hey, Benny, Hey, come here, Benny, Benny,
come here, buddy. This is like when you go for
a hike in the woods and you gotta get big.
If you're running, do a bear and you kind of
move a little slow and you can kind of stand
roud go hey, all right, come on, I don't want
to don't want to spook you with any sudden movements,
and I want to come and pick you up and okay, great,
we're not going to the street. That's kind of exactly

(05:30):
how the Bengals approach tackling or the Ravens approach tackling
Jamar Chase. In that play, there's four guys around him.
It should have been four guys hitting Jamar Chase, and
Jamar Chase is getting up going, dude, don't throw me
those hospital balls like that. But instead he's run through
four guys who don't even get close.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
But my favorite down the field is that you've got
Jermaine Burton, who last week was getting his ass tuned
out by Joe Burrow for sitting on the bench during
the game.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
He's just running. He doesn't block anybody. He doesn't have
to because the Rave and just don't bother converging on
Chase at all. It is a pathetic display of defense.
That's almost like you know, defending a hail Mary. I
mean that that that play that's gonna be taught in
schools about Hey, this is how you don't tackle.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
JJ Reddick would be sensed right now about the effort
of those defensive backs. He might throw his microphone down
and just get up and leave.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
I mean, really that that that play. I'm stunned. I'm
absolutely stunned. I'm stunned seeing that the JA so we
know how bad they are. Yeah, but that's the thing,
right you play it to fourteen to seven, right, long
protracted drive to start the game. That was a hell
of a drive from the Bengals right off the jump.
Go for it on fourth down. Eventually they get the

(06:43):
penalty and they shove it into the end zone. But
otherwise they've played them pretty solid, right, Ben, don't break
all of it, and then that's the play that you're
gonna give up, that easy a sprint to the end zone.
Come on, if they win tonight, right, If the Bengals
win this game tonight, this is a big win because

(07:06):
the Ravens are the best team they've played and beaten
so far. So if you're believing in the comeback of
the Bengals, this throws the division into a big tizzy.
Now because now clearly anybody but the Browns can win
this division. And it kind of goes along with what
we've talked about with the Ravens, where boy, they have
some games where they just look incredible and they look
like the best team in the NFL. Then they have

(07:27):
weeks where they show up and it's do you guys practice,
did you practice at all? Just get on the plane
and fly here like you're incredibly flat and it doesn't
look like you have any kind of game plan for
what the other team is doing. And that's kind of
what the Ravens look like tonight. And this happens to them,
not just once or twice a year what happens to
NFL teams, but it's like the fourth time already this
year this is happening.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
This would already be their fourth conference loss. All Right,
we talk about Lamar Jackson the Ravens and what they
do to NFC squads, but in conference they've been a disaster.
And to your point, we've had a couple of instances
where they haven't played well down the stretch and gave
games away. I mean that one against the Raiders is
still gonna it's one for the Ages, considering they fired

(08:09):
a bunch of those guys. They might as well put
up a banner for that victory. But you look get here,
Joe Burrow and the Bengals. Once you get past week two,
they seem to like to play football.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
I don't know what the hell you know.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
I'd like to change that, or I can I draft
guys start in week three from your squad.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
The Bengals have already petitioned in the NFL to start
the NFL season October. First, Oh, if that happens, Boile,
it'll be great. Do you think they're watched too busy
watching Red's baseball? And then two first they know they're
not playing anymore. I tell you, Elie de la Cruz
is so exciting I can't not turn away. So we'll
have more on this game again. The Ravens really just

(08:47):
look incredibly flat and not at all we expected. The
Bengals are out to a big lead twenty one to seven,
but it is But how do you wear those be
that flat? Maybe that's what it is. Too much time
looking at the uniforms. Wow, look how purple this is?
This is great purple? Like that you like that girl

(09:07):
from Almost Famous Purple? Your aura's purple? It's purple. Purple.
Can I stay in your room? It's purple. If you
keep doing that, you're starting to drift into Buddy Hack territory.
Uh so, again not a surprise. Here's the Ravens there
flat so far, but again, a lot of time left

(09:28):
in the game. Meanwhile, tonight's game on Amazon Al Michael's
Kirk curb Street, who didn't shed a tear today seeing
the post by Kirk curb Street. Ben, his dog that
we've seen living his best life over the course of
the past few years. Yeah, going to all kinds of games,
and you know, Kirk Kurbstreets called him his best friend,

(09:48):
and I don't think anybody was living a better life
than Ben. It was just an unbelievable thing seeing him
in the booth with him, how calm he was at
games and big you know, you got cannon's going on
and fireworks and Ben's just like, this is really cool, man,
I'm here. But we knew the last few days that
that Ben wasn't doing well, and Kirk Kirvestree put the
post up on social media today that they had to

(10:10):
put Ben down, and it's just I can't tell you
how I was affected by this. That it was just like,
in the last two years, I went from I'm never
I was never a dog person because I was allergic
to dogs my entire life. I'm never having a dog.
I don't just get the animal. The animal thing I understand,
but I just can't. I don't have the experience. And
then we find a breed of dog that I'm not

(10:32):
allergic to, a multi poo, and we get Benny, and
and now I can't imagine that we haven't had a dog.
You know, every day we do. It's like he's you know,
he's yeah, look, I'm not saying anything that people that
have dogs that don't know. It's like he's remember the family,
Like you're going out with him. It's like he's one
of your kids. And and I just see the story
about Ben today, just see how happy the dog was

(10:52):
and how you know, and I'm just seeing all the
things trend on him and rip Ben and Rainbow Bridge,
and I'm just like, oh man, I just lost it
for a couple of seconds. Right everybody with their pets,
I'm the same way. I never had. I had a
dog briefly when we were a kid. They brought home
a big dog.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
My older brother taunted it at the top of the stairs.
Guess what kid goes down the stairs, who gets punished?

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Dog? No more dog, so he goes he goes back
from wendsay came. Probably probably a goodness to dog that
there was. Probably that's you know what, that's one of
those hey that trade work good for both sides. Probably,
I'm sure the dog had a better life. And so
did you get also a proof of concept. All right,
you guys can't handle a dog, We let you get
a dog. Blah blah blah gone. Uh So when we
finally I was the holdout for for bringing Tutt into

(11:35):
the house. And now that's my my constant companion, naps
on me. We go for our walk. Yeah, I mean
he's everywhere. He's a pain in the ass, but he's mine.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
But seeing everybody with their little runs of videos of
them with their pets, and obviously Herb Street, you know,
has talked so much about it, and we had some
fun with it, and then you find out the dog's
getting sick, and you know, like you find that comfort, right,
you find that space because sometimes you just like the
dog hug at the end of the walk is the

(12:06):
best you do. A half hour and then you sit
down on the stairs and the dog walks up and
just puts the head on the lap.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
I mean, all's right with the world, Like I had
all ready to settle now, but I have to go
do laundry. No, no, no, you're gonna sit on the
couch with me.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Yeah, but for the next two minutes we're gonna have
this moment of peace and you're gonna move on. So
good thoughts to to herb Street and obviously a life
well lived for the dog. I mean got to see
a lot of cool stuff. Man, if only you could
process the thoughts.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
That's the biggest thing is that to see Ben in
all of these settings where most dogs would just get
spooked freaking out right, because yeah, when you do have
people yelling and there's a craw and there's a fifty
thousand people screaming and there's fireworks and there's canons, that's like.
But Ben is just like, yeah, cool, I'm at the

(12:52):
game canons and whistles and screaming, and I mean to
have that kind of temperament and I know that they're
you know, there was always the push ah, is this
the dog's best lives? Is lots of dogs like being
around humans more than like being around dogs. Want to
be around their humans more. And I haven't seen anything
that made me think that Ben didn't like anything more

(13:13):
than being with Kirk Kurbstreet. So I completely get that.
You never understood. It took me a long time.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Respected people, you know that, you know, this is my
kid and whatever else, Like I always thought it was
a little odd. And then get a little bit older
and you see how those kind of relationships and where
you find what you need to get through a day. Right,
we're all trying to go one to know however, you
get there without hurting anybody else.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
Good on you Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Carmen. All Right, I'm pretty
sure I just saw a viral moment on a big
third and seventeen play. Lamar Jackson just tried to shovel
the ball for a completion. The ball was caught at
the line of scrimmage. It's fourth down, the Ravens are punting.
They trail the Bengals twenty one. Evan and Cameras just

(14:02):
isoed on a Ravens fan. You just see him, You
just see him, and he's standing up and he goes.

Old Yellow. That doesn't happen Lassie too, not. I think
last Did you watch No.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
I didn't remember Lassie having a sad end And no, no,
I think Lassie was. It's been a minute since I've
seen it. No, I mean there might have been an
updated one. I mean you had Kujoe, yeah, which is
much different lasts.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
Where they share the spaghetti, right, Yeah, get close, lady,
that's Lastie in the trap.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
Yeah, last in the Trap.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
No, I'd watched that movie, The Bad Ending with Sam
in I am legend that was the one with Owen
Wilson when he went Marley and me.

Speaker 6 (17:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
No, I am Sam was sad No, no.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
No, no, I am Sam. No either I am Sam.
Is I'm Sam? No, I am Sam. The guy was
a killer?

Speaker 5 (17:10):
Whoa, whoa, you're thinking of a different one.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
No, no, you're thinking of a different What am I thinking?
You're thinking of whatever? Son of Sean Penn right now?

Speaker 4 (17:18):
No?

Speaker 1 (17:18):
I am son of Sam. No, No, no, I am
saying I'm thinking of a different No what so sus
you're going No? No, but Sean Penn wasn't a killer,
and I am Sam.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
Was he?

Speaker 1 (17:27):
No Sarandon right?

Speaker 4 (17:29):
No?

Speaker 1 (17:29):
No, no, that she won Best Actor? No movie? What
movie was that? What are you talking? Found?

Speaker 4 (17:35):
No?

Speaker 1 (17:35):
No, no, hang on, Susan Sarandon wins Best Actress. She
plays that she's the Yeah, she's the nun. Yeah he's
on dead That was dead Man Walking, dead Man Walking? Sam? Wow,
that's all like a what was?

Speaker 6 (17:50):
What was?

Speaker 1 (17:51):
I am Sam? I do not like them on a plane.
I do not like them on a plane. What was
I am? Sam?

Speaker 3 (17:57):
He was a guy raising his daughter, but mentally challenged daughter,
and people kept saying he wasn't capable.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
Okay, got it, got a relationship and the proof? Okay,
that was That was Cooper Gooding Jr. Want to talk
about I do not like them anywhere? Okay, all right,
so I think we got it. Dead Man rat t right,
dead Man Walking and then right that was Susan Sarandon winning.
For some reason, I thought I that was I am saying.

(18:25):
You want to talk about the Sean Penn Robert de
Niro movie. His name wasn't Sam in in in dead
Man Walking?

Speaker 4 (18:32):
Was it?

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Because if that was the case, that'd be really confused.

Speaker 5 (18:35):
That was Phoenix, That's what.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
No, that was?

Speaker 1 (18:37):
That was Joker. That was that was Joker. Yeah, dude's
name is Matthew. Matthew. Okay, Matthew, and you didn't have to,
but you couldn't design for Matthew. That's my brother. He
likes you more than I do. Man, He's like your
blanket idle. Alright, uh so, Matthew Perry. Quick update from
the NFL before you get into a story that prove

(19:00):
to you that the earth is going to still spin.
Lamar Jackson with a Lamar Jackson type play, the Ravens
capitalizing on a Chase Brown fumble. It's having a pretty
good game and it just got it ripped out. The
Ravens recover and a Lamar Jackson Russell Wilson type fade
back play where I run from side to side. There's
nobody open, but somehow I'm able to run past the

(19:22):
line of scrimmage, tiptoe down the sideline, and get in
the end zone. Lamar Jackson runs about sixty yards on
the play that I think went for about twelve and
now it's a game again. Twenty one fourteen, Ravens trail
the Bengals, still four and a half to go in
the third quarter. I mean, I don't know what to say.
Just a great run by the actually he gets out

(19:43):
at the one. Yeah, gets the run, But a run
by Lamar Jackson all the way down to the goal
line where it looks like this is a play that's
not gonna get anywhere.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
That kind of pain tiptoeing. I'm not out of bounds,
but I'm close to the sideline. Don't come and hit
me a Just a really horrible turn of events for
the Bengal. Now that escale quickly and you get another
touchdown for Derrick Henry.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Meanwhile, the G League in the NBA will be starting
start tomorrow, right, yep, yeah, let's go. Bronnie James has
been assigned to the G League by the Lakers. He
will debut Saturday against Salt Lake City. But he should
have been with him for the last week. I mean,

(20:27):
this is a story that makes everybody sit back and go, Okay,
the earth is still going to rotate, the sun is
going to come up tomorrow. Bronnie James and the fact
that he's not in the G League, even though the
G League doesn't start yet, what do you want him
to do now? Oh, he's in the G League where
he belongs. I feel like the world is back on
its spinning on its axis.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Yeah, I mean, I'll listen to the argument to a
degree of well, he should be getting minutes in rotation
and practice and everything else with the guys he's going
to be in the G League with. But he wasn't
the only guy relegated to the G League today. Other
teams did the same thing. Right now it's time, Oh
you're league. The G League hasn't started. What do you
want them to do?

Speaker 1 (21:09):
There's no games yet. What do you It's not like
they keep practicing and practicing in practice. It's the GI
I mean, they get their workouts. But isn't the time
valuable with the big club? Of course, even if you're
only getting a couple of minutes being in those meetings,
being in those workouts, isn't that helping develop you? Like,
I don't know where that disconnect is because there were
so many people shouting about it's like the games start

(21:31):
this weekend. It's okay. And the one thing that everybody
should see is that it's clear what the Lakers have
done so far. Brownie James is not gonna play any
more than he absolutely has to, or anymore then here's
a couple of minutes here or there. As a defensive
replacement playing at the end of games in a blowout.
The Lakers aren't saying, hey, you're playing instead of Dalton

(21:52):
connect or you're going to be in a starting lineup. No,
the Lakers have run it fine, and now that the
G League season is starting, this story should simmer down.
The teen Toronto should come down. But this has always
been the plan for him to go back and forth
between the Lakers and the G League, And right now
the plan is him to play in all the G
League home games and then as long as they don't

(22:12):
interfere or overlap with games where the Lakers are are away,
he'll play with the Lakers in the other games as well.
So he's gonna go back and forth between the Lakers
and the G League. And you can be upset about
the fact he doesn't deserve to be here this all,
but the Lakers are doing They're running this as best
as you can. Right this is But also the other
stuff was hot take nonsense. Well, Highestory agree. Look, yes,

(22:34):
it's the look the Lakers and Bronni James is about headlines.
I'm not saying it's not. It's absolutely about headlines that
they know if we can't win a title, what brings
us relevancy, what gets us noticed. It's the Jerry Jones
philosophy of Hey, I'm gonna make a trade of the
deadline even though we shouldn't, just because I want to
own the day they get Bronnie James. Okay, they're keeping
Lebron James happy. Okay. Not the first team to draft

(22:57):
players to make players happy. There's players canvas for guys
out of college. Hey, remember when Lebron was draft Shabaz Napier,
Draft Shabaz Napier. Okay, that he drafted Schabez Napier. Nobody
went crazy about that in the league. How many years
at this point, But it's Lebron and he's polarizing, and
I understand it. It's just I think I want people

(23:18):
to see that now that Brown's gonna be in the
G League. Okay, do you really feel like this is
a story to be so full thrown upset about? This
wasn't the fabric of the NBA being ripped apart. It
was did they do a little bit of a favor
for him? Yeah? Does it help them publicity wise? Absolutely?
Has it hurt the team? No, not at all. Is
it working out now? Yes?

Speaker 4 (23:38):
It is?

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Okay, Sometimes his stories where Okay, what are you really
so mad about Let's take a breath and calm down,
and and and let's move on and understand that there's
a proportional response for a story like this, and drive
and tell the cleft that's not what's going on now.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
You could have a lot of problems with the NBA
product as a whole through the first couple of weeks.
I'll hear those discussions, but the whole Browny James doesn't
deserve to be here shouting out and down nepotism. Meanwhile,
you're making calls and sending emails on behalf of your kid,
the kid down the street, your cousin, your nephew, someone
else that you ran into at a bar or whatever

(24:16):
else to try to get them an in Like, let's
look in the mirror for a second about what we're
doing with our lives here, uh, and and how we're
using any clout that we may have ourselves in the
expanded media world. So that that was always the part
of it that really just kind of ticked me off,
Like guys saying, well, he doesn't deserve that jobs, Like

(24:37):
how many people have you placed in jobs where they
haven't earned a damn thing or that they got a
job because of their surname. They got plenty of radio
hosts and TV hosts who went to the wall screaming
about this, like, yeah, let bring on my kid to
talk about this, like he just graduated with like he
got no reps in here.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
He is, you know, like, but hey, if you have
the opportunity to do it, who am I to be gudget?
I don't have to like it. You don't have to
like the Brownie James thing.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
It's five minutes in an eighty two game schedule that
had no consequence whatsoever. They're still gonna be bad and
they're gonna get blown out by good teams like we
saw last night. Did him showing up on the court
mean anything? If anything, maybe someone should have asked the question.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
There could have saved old DiAngelo Russell a little bit
of blowback we got. We got more coming up in
ninety seconds out that big story out of the NFL
that it actually can get worse. But first a guy's
gonna tell us what's trending. Who actually got his job?
He is a NEPO kid. His dad, his dad, Sager De.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
Sager had this job Seger forty years and then Steve
de Sager comes in and he's been doing it here.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Now for the past years with us at Fox.

Speaker 7 (25:48):
That's not only an incredible lie, it can't possibly be true.
This network has not existed for forty years.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
Well what it used to be before? I think it
was nothing. It was NBC. Yeah, exactly. We had the
Ranchester through I've you do it change, you'll be a coke.

Speaker 7 (26:08):
Just to end of the third quarter of tonight's NFL
game at Baltimore, Bengals lead the Ravens twenty one fourteen.
It was a twenty one to seven lead. After that
Jamar Chase catching run of sixty seven yards. In fact,
the run part was almost fifty yards out of the
sixty seven. He reached the top speed of almost twenty
one miles per hour being chased by the Ravens. His
only two higher speeds this whole year on scores came

(26:32):
against the Ravens earlier this year, but answering were the
Baltimore Ravens. After being down twenty one to seven, forced
to fumble few pays later, did score Derrick Henry a
one yard TD and that's why we're twenty one fourteen Cincinnati.
To start the fourth Dereck Henry has scored a touchdown
now in ten straight games to start the season. The

(26:54):
record is oj Simpson, who scored in all fourteen games.
That's as long as the season was nineteen seventy five.
Lamar Jackson with an incredible ten yard scramble. That's his
longest run of the night. He only has ninety three
yards passing, but that does include a short TD pass
to Nelson Agalore in the first half.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
For the moment.

Speaker 7 (27:14):
Six and three record for the Ravens Bengals four and five.
Wide receiver t Higgins of the Bengals out again tonight
with a quad injury. Baltimore safety Kyle Hamilton left with
an ankle injury. Carolina gave running back Chewba Hubbard a
four year extension worth about thirty three million dollars. Panthers
wide receiver Adam Thielen did not practice due to a
bad hamstring. The forty nine Ers expect running back Christian

(27:36):
McCaffrey to return to play this Sunday. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence
of Jacksonville is likely out this weekend with a left
shoulder injury. He was limited in practice again today. Titans
quarterback Will Levis practice fully for the first time in
three weeks after his shoulder injury. Tennessee running back Tony
Pollard did not practice due to a foot injury. The
Florida Gators say Billy Napier will continue to be their

(27:58):
head coach. Friday night on Fox TV Iowa at UCLA,
the three NBA games are all done. Wins for San Antonio,
Minnesota and Milwaukee beat Utah at a battle of one
and six teams one twenty three to one hundred. Damian
Lillard thirty four points. Among the twelve NHL games, Carolina
one it's eighth straight, five to one over Pittsburgh. Buffalo

(28:20):
upset the New York Rangers six to one, and Florida
got a six to two win against Nashville. The Winnipeg
Jets are twelve and one and leading with a minute left,
one nothing over Colorado.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve. The Jason Smithzer with
Mike Carmen live from the Tireck dot Com Studios. Now
you didn't think it could get worse for the Dallas Cowboys,
but it really can. Did the calendar flip? Another doe?

Speaker 4 (28:44):
No, no no.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
A couple of stories out of Dallas camp. When we're
wondering what's gonna happen with Dak Prescott. Likely he's gonna
hit ir. We told you the last couple nights. Look,
you're not going to see him again. The injury is
too bad. Plus he's not gonna want to come back
when the team is four and ten, he's done. The
Cowboys say their confidence is still there with Cooper Rush
at quarterback, and that I'm okay with because we did

(29:07):
see Cooper Rush come in when he had to play
when Dak got hurt and played. Okay, He's had some
moments where you would say, do we really have to
give Dak sixty million dollars a year? Cooper Rush is
not bad. Now you are winning games a different way.
Cooper Rush is not dynamic at all, but they were
winning games now. This is also a different Dallas Cowboy
team than the one he played for where he was

(29:29):
the head of the snake going, hey, I feel pretty
good about this now. The other part of it of this,
how things get worse for the Cowboys. Michaeh. Parsons did
an interview today in which he talked about the rationale
behind Jerry Jones making the Jonathan Mingo trade. The really
bad trade in which you could have got him for
a seventh round pick, and and said, nope, giving up
a fourth because that's gonna get the headlines. We get

(29:51):
up a seventh rounder, no one's gonna talk about it,
but fourth rounder for a guy who stinks, Yeah, that's
gonna be us. Michael Parson said, Hey, I get what
we're doing because Jerry Jones is sending a message that
we're not done. I'm gonna always try to improve this team. Right,
That's that's what I'm going to continue to try to
improve this team. Okay, this is where where to tell you.

(30:12):
That's a pretty good line, though, how things getting worse.
He's good in pr he's been learning from you. This
is we're trying to improve the team by getting Jonathan Mingo.
We could have given up a fourth round pick for
DeVante Adams a couple of weeks ago. Fonte Adams loved
to have a star in the side of his Sure,

(30:32):
get him to the Jets. They they were they were
okay giving Davante doing what he wanted, giving him to
a team with the quarterback that he won, So they
would have been okay, get him with the Cowboys, right.
You could have had to want to play with Deck
for a fourth I think, well, at that point, it
was still that right, and it was being a cowboy. Okay,
it was a joke. You said, hey, let's make him intertageable.

(30:55):
I'm just gonna extend that line. Could have had Deontay
Johnson for a fourth round pick. And while it's been
going for him getting involved in the Ravens offense, he's
still a really good receiver. You add all of these
players out there who you could have gotten, and I
get the filossei of oh, here's Jerry Jones trying to
make the team better. But this is how things get
worse because Jerry Jones, I don't think even looked into

(31:17):
this until he saw it on his to do calendar
for Monday. Get a wide receiver. Oh gotta do it now.
Trade deadline is tomorrow. Like most teams, Hey, we got
to jump ahead. We have to make sure we're getting
what we need ahead of time. We don't want to
lose a guy. Obviously, some trades are made at the deadline.
There's a lot of poker being played back and forth.
But if you know your your season could be frittering away,

(31:37):
you gotta be excited. You got to go make that trade.
And I feel like Jerry Jones just like kind of
woke up on Monday and said, oh, trade deadline tomorrow,
let's go do something. And he goes and gets Jonathan
Mingo when all the other guys you could have gotten
for fourth round picks, we'll get it. We're all gone.
Like I feel like it was on his calendar. Oh,
I set the reminder on the phone. Didn't know what
this alarm has for got a lot of alarms going off,
to know what that one's for, it, to know what

(31:58):
that one's for, that one's for it awe for but oh,
this alarm went off. This is a go trade for
a wide receiver. Like he woke up on Monday and
said we should go do this, and that's why he
went out and made the t at his next radio spot.
Those guys should ask him.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
So, Jerry, is your understanding of the trade deadline that
it can only happen between midnight day of and the
actual deadline.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
Because everybody else jumped the line in front of you.
For wide receivers. It's not like buying concert tickets where
right at midnight they go on sale and good click
click No, But That's the thing is, that's what Jerry
Jones did. It's like, okay, this week, Oh, I should
get a wide receiver, Like, why aren't you you see
how bad the team is? Why didn't you get a
running back? Couple weeks ago? You could have gotten Mandre
Stevenson from the Patriots. You can got a running back

(32:41):
to be able to do stuff. But instead it's wait,
what the hell's going on? Understand why were you could
have done that? But no, here I'm gonna go overpay
for a guy that might not even be in the
league in the year, and instead here we are making
this move on Tuesday. That doesn't make sense. Jade Jerry Jones, Right.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Well, the Michael Parkers is also talking about his own
potential trade value and all sorts of stuff like that.
That whole podcast got a little weird and untoward in
terms of whether he sticks around. He got it deep
into well, he gave me his his luxury box so
my friends and I could be into Super Bowl. Yeah,
I love Jerry, But you know, if Jerry wanted to
talk to me, he just called me into his office.

(33:17):
I'm like, what are you doing? Are you foreshadowing what's
gonna happen here, or are you telling us that this
happened and then it didn't come to fruition.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen Live from the
Ti rack dot Com Studios. Uh, just want to give
you an update here on the game. We are now
tied at twenty one early in the fourth quarter. This
is because Tylan Wallace just caught a pass at the
Raven's own twelve yard line. A nice little out should

(33:47):
have been pushed out of bounds three times. Instead, the
Bengals say, anything you can do, we can do worse.
You saw how you had none of us, None of
you guys tackled Jamar Chase on that touchdown. We'll show
you how we can't tackle. And Instea yead of pushing
him out of bounds, Wallace is able to go all
the way down the sideline for a touchdown. It is
twenty one to twenty extra point pending by Justin Tucker.

(34:09):
This is a play I mean, I don't know. Each
team has decided, Hey, as bad as we can do defensively,
we can wind up doing worse. And speaking of worse,
Tucker misses the extra point, So it's twenty one to
twenty Bengals with the lead. The hell Man fourth quarter the.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Other if I'm one of his team, Mats yelling he's
not a quarterback. Hit him on the side.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
I mean how they can't push him out of bounds.
They have three shots at him, and instead he goes
all the way down the sideline for a ninety yard.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
Toucho man both passing stats from Lamar Jackson just really
went through the roof and we're gonna get our over.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
We got stats, we got points, we got a close game.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
It's everything you want more exit out about a Fresca
exit swelling down The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Carmon coming up next. Looks like we are
gonna see a big quarterback change Sunday. And the big
news is the guy coming in will be just as
good as the guy he's replaced. And that's bad news
for the guy he's replacing. It's not Aaron Rodgers. He's

(35:06):
got guaranteed money. What are you talking about? That's next
Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Five second dance party. Who everybody's gonna have to answer
for their sins of their life and Tight Shirt's gonna
answer for it is at some point.

Speaker 4 (35:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:26):
But if that's the worst that he's done, he's okay,
that's not No, there's much worse. This is on the list.
This is on the list. You just made the list, Neam.
He's gonna get to the Pearly Gates and God's gonna go. Oh, Tyson, Oh,
We've been waiting for you. Hang on, hang on, hang on,
hang on. Did you really play Tears for Fears every
night even though you knew it was causing some kind

(35:47):
of stress on your radio host? Did you really do that?

Speaker 4 (35:49):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (35:49):
Thanks for reminding me, big guy almost fort to play today?

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Did you do that? Did you really do that to
the guy?

Speaker 4 (35:54):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (35:54):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon Live from the
TIREC dot Com Studios, twenty one to twenty Bengals with
the lead over the Ravens A Justin Tucker missed extra
point the difference in this game right now, nine and
a half to go. I'll have more in this game
coming up in a few minutes, but it looks like
we're gonna get a quarterback change this weekend, Okay, and
I'll give you a ball prediction. Yeah, the guy coming

(36:14):
in is gonna play just as well as the guy
who's not going to play, And boy, is that gonna
be bad news for this team. Trevor Lawrence likely going
to miss Sunday's game against Minnesota, the shoulder injury likely
gonna keep him out, and then some real cryptic wording
in the reporting of this story today that he's gonna
probably miss Sunday's game, Mac Jones will play instead. As

(36:38):
he ponders what's next in his future. Obviously, you just
signed a big contract, which is part of the thing.
But pondering his future is do I come back and
play this year at all? Or do I just put
it away and come back next season? The Jaguars are terrible?
Is it gonna serve me to come back and play?

Speaker 4 (36:56):
All? Right?

Speaker 1 (36:56):
Are you gonna hurt it any worse?

Speaker 4 (36:57):
Right?

Speaker 3 (36:58):
I mean, that's really the end game to all. Ye's
the risk? Is he gonna have surgery? Will he have surgery?
Is that knock him out for the season. That's the
next step for Trevor Lawrence. But as far as that goes,
I'll tell you what's gonna happen. Mac Jones is gonna
come in and he's gonna play kind of like Trevor Lawrence.
And that's bad news for the Jaguars man because I've

(37:19):
told you from the beginning, Trevor Lawrence is not great.
He is the most overpaid player in the NFL. You
could have anybody giving you league average play like Trevor
Lawrence and not pay him fifty five million dollars a year.
I get that it looked bad if you didn't extend him,
because he came out of Clemson as the best quarterback

(37:39):
prospect in a decade, and what happened he wasn't and
it's embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
But we gotta pay him because it looks bad if
we don't. Uh, look at what you did. You paid money.
The guy had one really, really good year and outside
of that, boy, he's been league average. And you're gonna
have Mac Jones, who the Patriots tossed on the scrap
heep and said we don't need you anymore. He's gonna
come in and he's gonna play just as well, not better,
not like the world on fire, not three hundred yards

(38:05):
a week in three touchdowns, but can he go one
to eighty eighty five and a touchdown and a pick?
Can he go two hundred yards two touchdowns and an interception?

Speaker 4 (38:13):
Can he?

Speaker 1 (38:14):
Absolutely he can do that. And the Jaguars are gonna say, Wow,
we're stuck with Trevor Lawrence. We're stuck with the guy
because we overpaid him and there's nothing we can do.
You gonna talk about worst contracts in the NFL's that
jumps up to the top after the Browns do whatever
they're gonna do with with Deshaun Watson. Because Trevor Lawrence
has had time to prove with different coaches, different systems,

(38:36):
different playmakers. They have done everything for him in Jacksonvilley've
gotten him different wide receivers, they hired him the quarterback,
friendly head coach. They've done everything, and he still looks
like he has hit his ceiling. He's not dynamic, he
turns the ball over way too much. And now he's
gonna be out and you're gonna get the same kind
of play from a guy that was a backup quarterback
with the Patriots who could have could be either in

(38:58):
the league or not in the league. And that's a
huge thing. I mean there's no more overrated player in
the NFL than Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 3 (39:04):
Well, we'll see how quickly folks adapt to system schemes,
et cetera. Because remember all the disservices and problems that
were going on in New England. Patricia, here's another random
guy to be your offensive coordinator. I mean, they did
that guy wrong every every which way. You know, as
a rookie, he's appropriate, but.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
He's also a guy. I'm not saying he was great,
but he also had a little too full, too much
of himself, a little bit too much of an attitude.
So I'm gonna say all those reports I always take
with a grainness, So you don't go outside of the
out of the team to call somebody and say, hey,
what's going on here? Whoa whoa, whoa dude, what are
you doing? I mean, it's it's I would say, I'm
not going to excuse him, but I will give blame

(39:43):
to both sides. How about okay, how about that? But
either way, he goes down to Jacksonville.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
I mean, Doug Peterson, you know, made all his headlines
because being asked about Sam Darnold and new Spaces kind
of in the idea of all right, what are you
expecting from Mac Jones?

Speaker 1 (39:58):
What's he doing in a new and environment?

Speaker 3 (40:00):
And then he attributed any of Sam Donald's success to
the presence of Justin Jefferson just categorically dismissed that Sam
Donald's actually learned anything.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
We'll get to that next hour. It's just kind of
an interesting thing.

Speaker 4 (40:14):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
But for Mac Jones, here's your opportunity. But they're on
the hook for all that cash, telling you, man, that's
going to be a big deal when you see him
playing justice well as Trevor Lawrence look ow I was
trying to find an over under for his yardage exit
out about a Fresco exit Swallen Dome. We got more
NFL on the way, as well as another Dodgers player
blow torching the Yankees. This is Fox Very Minor.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (40:51):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
live from the Tirack dot Com Studios. The Ravens has
Escape and a Thursday Night thriller. They beat the Bengals
thirty five thirty four. The Bengals go for two with
thirty five seconds left to go and incomplete pass and

(41:12):
two miss penalty calls easy that should have been thrown
against the Ravens that are not Joe Burrow gets hitting
the face mask not called Mike Aziki is held like crazy,
not called. And with every passing day that something like
this happens, I always come back to our next guest
idea special Forces guys in the NFL making calls as

(41:35):
referees and officials. That's the brainchild of one Jay Glazer,
who joins US now NFL on Fox Insider. Check him
out on Twitter at Jay Glazer Glazer's up buddy, Hi,
going living and dream man?

Speaker 4 (41:47):
How you guys doing?

Speaker 1 (41:49):
Telling you man, Every time I see those plays, I
think think about special Forces guys running up and down
the field getting the calls right.

Speaker 4 (41:56):
Hey, they got a better chance to be a position right,
the great and chaos. I still think it's a grand idea.
Actually talking about that. We are actually doing a two
hour special uh this weekend Fox and about Sunday. We're
going down to a naval amphibio space from Cornado. So
we're working with the Navy shield down there. Also, it's
going to be it's our best show we do every year. Man,
we love our veterans say show.

Speaker 1 (42:17):
Wow, that's awesome, that's a cool you know. But but yeah,
and you say that you talk about being good in
chaos because it's these are the plays that really stand out, Jay,
the winner lose plays right at the end of overtime,
the end of regulation where it's a fourth and goal
play or something. It's these winner lose plays where you go, wow,
how is there no flag thrown on that? And having

(42:37):
that grace and chaos is really a big thing.

Speaker 4 (42:40):
Well usually we get upset that a flag was thrown.
Flag on that in both ways. But yeah, look, I
went to the league ten years ago at this idea
hire expecial down who've had a football experience so they
understand the game. Also, but a they're great and chaos,
they're gonna be a better shit to put themselves in

(43:00):
that position. See, the head coaches are not going to
curse these guys out there games.

Speaker 1 (43:06):
No, it's it right.

Speaker 3 (43:07):
I mean, you want to talk about being in control
and being able to get yourself.

Speaker 4 (43:12):
In positions see Klayoffs.

Speaker 1 (43:14):
Man, yep, because we saw you want listen, listen.

Speaker 4 (43:17):
The problem is that the officials and look, guys, I
kind of sick of talking about it over and over
that when we talk about it constantly and like it's
it doesn't change. But you know, again, you when you
have guys who are so much sway over what happens

(43:38):
in these games, these billion dollar businesses, and you just say, man,
they just keep going with the same thing over and
over and over and over instead of saying, hey, is
there a better solution? I think buys a much better solution.
But at least try something that's a better solution.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
Do something even if it's wrong. Hey, Decision twenty four continues.
You want Lamar or Burrow?

Speaker 1 (43:59):
You want or Burrow? If I got, if you had
to choose, if you had to choose, you got.

Speaker 4 (44:04):
Man, You're you're, you're. I'm having a hard time hearing no.

Speaker 3 (44:07):
Just asking it, whether you'd have Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow.
Who's starting your team?

Speaker 4 (44:11):
Got? Oh god, man, well Ponta Lamar Just what's going
on this seasons? Unbelievable? Oh my god, Joe Burrow and
Lamar Chase and you know we goes with Chase and
they still can't stop him. It's, you know, the rapist
defense and tough defense. Usually it have been tougher in
the past, but man, Lamar Jackson that play at the
end where he just kind of jumps up and man,

(44:31):
I've never seen something like that. That was unbelievable, And
you know, it's you know, the problem with with Lamar
is you got to keep your eyes on him so
much so it hurts you kind of on the back
end a lot, you know, and he's just man. Especially
when they get Derrick Henry going more and more and
more and more. It's just like it's a pick your
poison offense. What are you gonna do? Who you gonna stop?

Speaker 1 (44:54):
Is this the best? Because I look at Lamar this
year and you see the confidence and the ease with
which he makes plays. This is the best he's been
in his career.

Speaker 4 (45:05):
Yeah, not just the Yeah, yeah, it's definitely a confidence.
But he's like, man, he's like he's assured himself that
he's gonna go and take it. But I just think
he's a lot more electric, he's a lot more dynamic.
He's and that some of it is I think it's
confidence and some of it is the fact that they
got Derek her Andy every sitting back there and again,

(45:26):
if you want to just focus on Lamar, then Derek's
gonna gout you. If you want to sit there and
try and take away the runs, then Lamar's gonna got you.

Speaker 3 (45:35):
Jake, we had the trade deadline earlier this week. Was
there anything eleventh hour that just couldn't come together in
the last minutes.

Speaker 4 (45:42):
Where we're look I think everything we thought was gonna happen.
He went on Fox on Front there. I said, well,
Washington's gonna they're gonna market for a corner. We talked about,
you know, the Cleveland pass rusher going uh to to
the Lions about why the Lion's still They have not
ruled out a Hutchinson getting back for like late in

(46:04):
postseason or Super Bowl. But you know, you know, there
was trying to think if there's anything else Steelers. We
knew we're looking for a receiver. Huston was looking for
a receiver. Couldn't pull that off. It wasn't anything where
there's somebody else looking for Ahi. I know Atlanta was
looking for a pass rusher. Arizona was looking for a
pass rusher. Who else was looking for a receiver. I

(46:26):
don't remember somebody else is looking for a receiver. It's
all my head's sending from it. Also, well, not only that,
we had a trade deadline and then that kind of
goes crazy. And then yesterday we had these fires in
Malibu and Rosie and I had to evacuate and got
caught up in one of the fires. It was pretty wild,

(46:47):
and you want to talk about people who are great
in chaos, Like I thought for sure we had one
hundred one hundred milo farm winds in Malibu, and I
was like, oh man, this is going to go crazy.
And we I've been at our house. Rosie and I
are displaced right now, hoping to go back tomorrow before
we go down to San Diego. But man, the fire

(47:08):
department in Malibu and the Los Angeles Fire Department of
the Sheriffs, they came together so fast because we started
driving and there are two houses that just went the
god and I was like, oh man, here we go.
And man, you want to talk about a great office
of defensive coordinator? Is Malibu Fire Department that I own
a lot o.

Speaker 1 (47:27):
I know you talked about him, you gave him shout outs.
On your Twitter page too, And I'm glad you and
Rosie are safe. Everything is good. And of course I
know you had another great unbreakable podcast with week. You
had like Florio on with you this week.

Speaker 4 (47:38):
Yeah. Yeah, but purpooball talk is had a goffler, right,
everybody looks at it. You were constantly checking your phone.
They'll say whatever they want about Mike and may an
upset of that, this or not. But man, you constantly
refresh your browser to see what's going on. It's the
fire for the league. And I've known the guy forever
and I was like, you know, I don't know how
it all came about. I want to know how this

(48:00):
thing came about. He went from you know, being a
lawyer to doing this. How did it come about? And
I just love to hear these stories about what people
do that are that aren't the normal things. You know,
it's not that normal process of how most people get
to where they are. His were certainly different. You got
a tune in. It was really well pluck where it's
really cool because he wrote a book that he is

(48:22):
that just went on Sanel and he's like, Jay, give
me your charity that you wanted to go to and
I was like, you know what, my boy, Michael Phelps,
he's on mental health, buddy. He does so much for
mental health. So half the PROST Season book go to
the Michael Felps Foundation.

Speaker 1 (48:37):
Which is amazing, great stuff.

Speaker 4 (48:39):
Jay.

Speaker 1 (48:39):
Check out the link on his Twitter page at Jay
Glazer Pro Football Talk celebrating its twenty third birthday. Jay
gets in deep with it with Mike Floria. Jay has
always gotten to cry too, got in to cry, Got
you did you got to cry? Whatever?

Speaker 6 (48:54):
Right, Well, he took over for OPRAH. I mean getting
people to cry. Hey, I know it some kind of
last couple of days. Thank you so much as always,
glad you and your family are safe. Man.

Speaker 1 (49:05):
We'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 4 (49:06):
Thank you, appreciate well.

Speaker 1 (49:07):
All right man, be well Jay, great stuff from Yah.
You forget about that big fires the last couple.

Speaker 3 (49:11):
Of days, one hundred mile an hour winds and it's
been but like the video of it is amazing. I
was listening to some of the fire chief press conference
coming in UH as it was driving in today and
just kind of talking about how quickly it spread, the devastation,
but then the mobilization of all the individual uh surrounding areas,
to get things deployed and to battle it as well,

(49:33):
as they did, just absolutely amazing
