(00:52):
mean the Knicks one, so I'm happy the Bucks lose.
Anybody that has to watch Doc Rivers coach their team
not happy.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Uh, but but it may be a gets them closer
to the inevitability.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Sure Doc Rivers will not be the head coach at
some point it's him or me. I really we told
you this last hour. I don't know that Doc Rivers
made until makes it till Christmas. We talked about this
about a week ago. Now I got to move up
that timeline to Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is late this year. It's
done a three weeks from yesterday. So yeah, I don't

(01:24):
know that Doc Rivers makes it to Thanksgiving. The Bucks
are two and seven and they're just they're just going
through the motions right now. Man, I really I don't
know what to say. This is not something that's going
to get better anytime soon.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, and the excuse making will be Wow, it's the
second night of back to backs again.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
They drummed the Utah Jazz a night ago.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Not a lot of heavy minutes, not a lot of
heavy work, And so you would expect that you've come
out with your best effort against the team that you're
expected to be, you know, play and fight for your
conference lead, and instead, you know, you come out and
get work. So yeah, another disappointing end, another double digit
loss for the Bucks.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
So I'm more NBA on the way. In a few minutes,
we got Pete Feu tax stop and buy college football. Inside,
we'll take a look at all the big action coming
up this weekend. But uh, we'll give you a surprise
team that could be one of the top three or
four teams in the NFL by the end of the season.
Coming up in a couple of minutes, but first, let's
get into what's going on right now with the Cowboys

(02:25):
in advance of their game this week. Uh, Dak Prescott
likely is going on. Ir Jerry Jones talking about it
today and one O one O three five in Dallas.
Uh hasn't been one O five three? Sorry? One O
three five is one O three five here light refreshing
favorites and fifty minutes of music an hour, well one
of one of three five out here coast yeah, coach, Yeah,

(02:48):
I mean Christmas music.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
Gliday holiday?

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, yeah, happy Holiday.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
I want to go to their party.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Get me to their party. Holiday.

Speaker 5 (02:57):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
You know it's about Tom Here's some Andandy Williams ty shirt.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
Just you know you can hit him the most.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
But look, Jerry Jones said something really interesting today and
I am all in on this. He was asked about
the quarterback situation for this week and next and going on,
and yes, Cooper Rush is gonna start. But Jerry Jones
did say, yes, they have room to get Trey Lance
some time, not just to get him playing time, but
they have packages to get Trey Lance on the field

(03:26):
and into a game. And you know what this needs
to happen, Like if you wanted to go right to
Trey Lance to start, yes, go ahead and do it.
Did you? This is your chance to get a look
at the guy and see if he can ever be
an NFL quarterback. Who knows, maybe he catches absolute fire
and the team is phenomenal in the oh season. It's hey,

(03:46):
if you want Dak in that big contract, give me
called let me know we can part ways with him.
But did you get Trey Lance to have him sit
and to just push Dak Prescott to be better or
did you really want to see how he looks? Yes,
get get him out there, and if you can't do
it this week, then maybe in a week or two.
And the worst things where it comes work. If he
stinks while you're tanking, you're getting a better draft pick anyway.

(04:08):
But you know who Cooper Rush is. Cooper Rush is coming.
In the past, he has played well and the Cowboys
are able to win games when Dak was out a
year ago eighteen ten, seventeen, fourteen, sixteen thirteen. But clearly
the season is done now right, you're you're two games
under five hundred, you might be the worst team in
your division. You'll probably be irrelevant by Thanksgiving. Find out

(04:31):
if Trey Lance can play, give him the rest of
the season and see because if worst come, look it's
a win win scenario. If he stinks, you can always
go back to Cooper Rush if you want to. If
he stinks, you can also keep him in there. And
you got a did you get a top draft pick?
And who knows what you want to do there at
the end. If suddenly Jerry Jones has the stars in
his eyes of Shador Sanders and Deon Sanders coming in,

(04:53):
I mean, who knows. But if he's bad, he's bad. Okay,
you get a high draft pick. If he's good, you
have an asset. You have something, and you have something
that you can help turn into something. Whether he's on
your team next year and you want to move on
from Dak or you want to keep Dak, you want
whatever you want to do it. It's a great thing
to find out if you have an asset and you
brought Trey Lanson, did you bring him into sit or

(05:15):
did you bring him into Finally, at some point, find
out if he can play, get him out there as
soon as you can. Let him start the rest of
the season. This should be Trey Lance playing quarterback for
the Cowboys rest of the way.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah, But this always goes back in the same question
we have with Jerry. Where's his grappling in grip on reality?

Speaker 5 (05:32):
Right?

Speaker 3 (05:33):
What does he have in terms of hopes and expectations
for this second half of the year. Is he listening to,
you know, people that are maybe more grounded in reality,
like the radio hos he's talking to as to what
they've seen with this squad, or is he still thinking
they're going on some tremendous run.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
Either way, that's.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
The order of the day as they go into this
game this weekend. I mean, obviously a tall task against
the division rival in Philly, who's playing some pretty good football.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
They got healthy.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
We've seen the Saquon Barkley, by the way, he got
drug tested after doing that six million dollar man move
with his ass forward kind of thing that people are
now emulating and getting wrecked in high school games.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
Don't do it.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
People don't do it.

Speaker 6 (06:17):
But the.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Conclusion of Trey Lance, you made the deal. You know
what Cooper Rush is right, and if you want steady, serviceable.
That's not gonna win you any games, like, because this
defense isn't any good. You're not suddenly even with guys
coming back from injury. You know, this was the squad,
and we've joked about it. This was the squad that
got run over all over the field by what is

(06:44):
now shown to be a pathetic New Orleans Saints squad.
So thinking all of a sudden that they're gonna be
giving up just seventeen points a game or something.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
You're kidding yourself.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
So why not at least see if Lance can come
in and fire things up, fire down field, and with
the second string guys that you need to elevate, maybe
one of those guys can find a little bit of
magic as well, alongside ced Lamb. And for Trey Lance,
did he ever really get a full fair shake as
a starter? Remember the game he played against the Bears,

(07:15):
torrential down pours to where it was, all right, how
do we get sixty minutes to just run off the
clock as fast as possible. Nobody wants to be out here,
the fans don't want to be in the stands, and
this game stinks.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
So for Trey Lance, maybe.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
An opportunity here, I would say, yeah, run forget about packages.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
You're not good enough. You're not good enough to run.
You're not good enough to split time in practices.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
What we do and I get the whole. Hey, we
don't want the team to feel like the season's over.
And if we go to Trey Trey Lance, don't feel
like the season's over. Hey, you know what, Cowboys players
are smart. They know the season's over. They know Dak
is not They know what's over. They know you're not
gonna You're not hiding it by saying, oh, we start Cooper,
you're gonna win five or seven games. No, they know
what's over. You can go to Trey Lance. It's okay

(07:59):
to add.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
To the Hey, you know, Dak can't walk it through
that door. He might, but he's gonna be on.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Crutches for a while. Now to a team that I
I'll tell you this right now, because well, we love
looking ahead and making big Bowl predictions on a Friday night,
I would not be surprised if at the end of
the season one of the top four teams in the
NFL is wait for it, the New York too. No,
if one of the top four teams in the NFL

(08:25):
are the Atlanta Falcons. It's been a big journey from
the beginning of the season. Kirk Cousins, new kind of offense,
new system going on right there, a lot of new
pieces coming in and what they have done over the
past few weeks, they have become so scary, all right.
Their offense is so scary. Kirk Cousins has really settled in.

(08:47):
It was touch and go for a little while.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
If he told you you hated him.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Kirk Cousins is a bridge quarterback no matter what you're
paying him. Eventually, Michael Pennock Junior is gonna take over.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
It's just a matter of how long that bridge is.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yeah, I mean at the beginning of the season it
looked like it could be a very short bridge.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
But now like you were going to get attacked by
the grumpy old Droll.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
But now I'm the grumpy Joel that lives under the bridge.
But now with how he has played the last few weeks,
clearly it is now his job for the rest of
this season. They'll reassess in the offseason. But it's been
him getting locked in, having enough time with his weapons,
and they have all shown you that we have another

(09:25):
level the ball out in right. Drake London has hit
another level in his development. Darnell Mooney, Man, I mean
right now, the Bears are going, wow, he was really good.
Maybe it was justin Field's fault because he is having
big game after big game for them. But the biggest
thing is Jon Robinson has hit that next level to
the point where he is now a dominant running back.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
You have seen him and and Algar kind of split
the job, but now the last few weeks it's tilting
more towards Bijon Robinson. And I see a difference in
his game when he when he takes when he takes
balls and he's able to bounce the ball to the
outside or or hit a running playoff tackle. He is
so patient and he is able to make those late

(10:08):
moves on a run that gain him an extra three
or four yards or maybe sometimes even ten yards because
he does it with a burst. They have finally realized that, oh, yeah,
he's our guy. Maybe all guys, hey, we give him
the ball in the red zone. And I can still
see John Robinson coming out of the game, but he's
just so valuable catching passes out of the backfield as well.
I mean, he has really hit the next level of

(10:29):
his development. And Atlanta scares so many teams because they
can beat you so many ways. You even had the
odd Kyle Pitts might be good game out of him
a couple of times this year. The only thing I
can say about Atlanta the only thing that said, Okay,
what do they need to do? They got to learn
how to close out games. Right You look at the
game last week against the Cowboys. That should been a
three touchdown game, but instead you're worried about an on

(10:50):
side kick near the end. So that's the one thing
we have seen from them is that when the end
of games come, they have a problem closing some games out.
They're too good. They need four offense a little bit
better than they have right now, their defense needs to
get off the field a little bit more of a
sense of urgency, and whatever else. They need to figure
out how to close games. Because you've seen them play
well for fifty five fifty four minutes and then, boy lad,

(11:13):
what's going on? This should be how does this two
touchdown game turn into a tight one in the last
four minutes. If they can close out games, watch out,
they could be one of the top four teams in
the NFL by the end of the season.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Well on the plus side as well, just to add
it up, including the hey, maybe these games get flexed
out of their original spots towards the end of the season.
Schedule's pretty kind for them as we roll through. You've
got Washington, that's the Week seventeen game on the road.
You've got a Week fourteen game in Minnesota. Week thirteen
a game at home against the Chargers. Those are the

(11:48):
three that stand out. Saints fine a game against the
Raiders done Denver, who were liking more right, the defense
had played well Nicks top ten Fantasy guy, and slowly
but surely the offense finding some semblance of consistency. But
you know that one's next week, so we'll see. And

(12:09):
then they get their bye week before that date with
the Chargers and then to the Vikings whatever. There's a
game with the Giants, in a game with the Panthers
to close out the year, so certainly opportunity to make
some Hey. Offense putting up points thirty six, thirty eight,
thirty one, and twenty seven for their last five games.
The only the question mark when they got blown out
by the Seahawks because you want to talk about a

(12:32):
team with no identity. I mean that's just a blank face,
like who is it? Don't know, don't know what Seahawks teams.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Shop now, Oh that's a but that's like the Sea
everybody in that division. Who's showing up? I don't know Seahawks, Rams, Cardinals.
It's like a costume party the NF two West. I
don't know who are you? Wow, Hey, Jimmy, Jimmy, I
didn't know that was you and the captain Jack Sparrow
outfit on. It's like it's a costume party in the
NFC West. You have no idea.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Well, and there's the key right when you look at
the getting healthy now, so they're interesting. You've got a
big date with the Cardinals, which might actually tell us
something about both squads. Or maybe we just go into
week eleven with the same damn questions.

App Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with My
best friend Mike Harmon, Lockmthetirack dot Com Studios. Big goings
on in college football. Nobody better to talk to you
on a Friday night than the owner, proprietor Grand Pooba

(14:44):
of college Footballnews dot com. You are one stop shopping
for everything college football, all the picks, all the prognostications,
all the analysis. It is Pete feu Tech, longtime front
of the show, Pete Feutech, who is taking time away
right now a phone call with Miller Moss to tell
him all about what it's going to be like in
Michigan to talk football with us right now. Pete, what's happening, man?

Speaker 5 (15:07):
It took him long enough to figure out how to
get the right quarterback there at us D. I mean, look,
it's this is you know, look at the history of
the quarterback the lineage under Lincoln Riley. I mean you
start with Baker Mayfield, number one overall pick. Obviously he's
playing well. Now Kyler Murray number one overall pick, playing well.

(15:29):
Now you had Jalen Hurts come in pretty good. You know,
Spencer Rattler, he's in the league. You know, Jesus is
a player. And then that Caleb Williams guy, pretty good group.

Speaker 7 (15:40):
That's a that's a pretty.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
Good uh you know as a Johnsons Aalen that that's
the Godfather actor who has played Fredo, where like every
movie he made was like a super hit like, that's
that's been Lincoln Riley. Every quarterback has been a hit.
Miller Moss isn't quite that guy. Uh so you think
that they've been able to get That's that's where I

(16:02):
thought Curtis Rourk would end up ended up going out
Indiana talked about a segue, but yeah, they let's do
what they do with this quarterback situation. Because now at
the moment as we speak, kind of crazy that if
we had talked a few weeks ago and I suggested
the idea that U C l A is a bear
shot of going bowling the USD, Yeah, at the moment,
that's probably true.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Hey, so are you believing the the reports linking Miller
mass transfer portal to Michigan or is that something that's
just a wishful thinking because anybody in the portal Michigan
is going to be interested in a quarterback.

Speaker 5 (16:32):
I'm just gonna say, is John o'corr not not available anymore?
I mean, like that that has been such the land.
I mean, and who's the one guy who led you
guys to the promised Land? It was the guy you
got in the recruiting class with JJ. But that for
years was always the place that you know, they always

(16:52):
kind of got the okay, uh quarterback transfers, and you
just assumed that because it was horrorball back then, that
you know, he is going to make something out of
whatever quarterback theyhead. That was always the that was always
the differentiating factor. Whereas you know your house, you know
house they would have, you know, the Dwayne Haskins and
the you know J. G. Barrits and the superstar quarterbacks.

Speaker 7 (17:13):
The Michigan wouldin would get thrown at, you know, Wilton
Spike or just it just I don't know.

Speaker 5 (17:19):
Miller Rose is fine, but if you're in Michigan, go
pay for someone better. Pete.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
With one of the big games tomorrow Alabama LSU, there
will be a live tiger in attendance. Uh will the
Tigers actually show up and play some solid football? Well,
Nussmeyer take care of the ball enough for Brian Kelly to.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
Get a win.

Speaker 5 (17:37):
Among the many disconnects between me and the common man
is I could not possibly care less about a live tiger.
Be Oh, come on, I like, I don't know what
there's a part of it's missing. I am not exactly
you know, Joe Q lunch pail when it comes to
you know, these these sorts of things.

Speaker 7 (17:55):
I don't know, if the tiger's actually playing.

Speaker 5 (17:57):
And you know you have to avoid them, then I
guess that's the thing. But I mean, oh, there's a
tiger in a cage on the sideline.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Okay, man, the tiger's on the field, though, let's think it.
Just it's gonna it's gonna be very difficult to move
that football down the field.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
I guess because you're you're worried about the tiger. You know,
it's gladiator time. But but you know, this is this
is it. This is you know, a college football playoff
game that least an elimination game because the loser of this,
as much as the committee is going to want to
do everything possible to put Alabama in, and the fact
that they are ranked so high to begin with this last
week just shows you. You know, when I'm telling you

(18:32):
guys for years, because it's Alabama clause that's in the
CFP contract, losers, this is out. You know, it's kind
of crazy to think that, you know, these two really
good teams are kind of fighting to stay alive in
this thing. But it should be spirited, should be fun.
These guys put put on great shows. I'll be really

(18:53):
disappointed if it's not a back and forth firefight.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
So here's here's where I come down on it. Pete.
Is that like last week we talked about Ohio State
and Penn State and I said, Okay, I'll pick Penn
State when James Franklin wins a big game at Penn State, right,
he hadn't done one in eight years. I'm going the
same way here. I'll pick LSU when Brian Kelly wins
a really big game. Until that moment, I'll go with
Jaln Milroe, who I've seen win big games before.

Speaker 7 (19:18):
I might be a little fuzzier.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
Didn't they win a couple of years ago?

Speaker 7 (19:23):
Was he still there? Was he the coach?

Speaker 5 (19:24):
Then two years ago that recently when they pulled it
off and the last second win over Alabama?

Speaker 7 (19:31):
I was at it.

Speaker 5 (19:32):
I think I was at a James Addtionen concert actually
when this was happening.

Speaker 7 (19:35):
I think it was a couple years ago. Yeah, exactly,
you were a.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Dennis Dixon concert. I mean, the former Oregon quarterback.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
Wow, that's bad.

Speaker 5 (19:41):
You know he was a musician and I was watching
it on my phone. Yeah, really, you know, a professional
god By myself, but looks, yeah, I get it. Like, look, Brian,
it goes back to the James Franklin thing too.

Speaker 7 (19:56):
You know, who beats.

Speaker 5 (19:57):
Top five teams. Nobody like his whole thing is like, oh,
he can't beat a top five people. Well that's because
they're top five teams. And that's why everyone's like one
nineteen against them, because it's really hard to do. So
I always had this complaint when it came to hardball.
I have this complain when it comes to Franklin. You know,
you know how many coaches out there have been with
the same team since twenty twenty one and are winning

(20:19):
it'd be seventy percent of their games. It's Kirby, it's
Dabbo and like Lane Kiffin, and it's James Franklin and
Ryan Day. That's it. You know, like it's really hard
like to win college football games. And for all those
well James Franklin can't win a big game. Well, you know,
ask Florida, that's Nebraska, that's Texas for you know, for

(20:40):
the most part, how hard it is to win, you know,
seventy percent of your games every single year.

Speaker 7 (20:47):
It's just not that easy. But it say to me,
Brian Kelly.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
I don't particularly like the guys, but he's a whale
of a college football head coach and he gets a
lot out of the teams. So I'll see tomorrow, you know,
the We'll see then let's see this Alabama can get
back in the mix and all of a sudden they
win tomorrow, Then yeah, they're still alive for a lot
of big things come out.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
We got Carson Back, Jackson Dark, two great names offense,
one point line in this one. Does Beck take care
of the football to get them a victory?

Speaker 5 (21:17):
I was gonna say, you know, I saw that stat today.

Speaker 7 (21:20):
I thought you'd think I would have.

Speaker 5 (21:21):
Known that one. But what the ten touchdown passes and
eleven picks you know in his last several games.

Speaker 7 (21:27):
That's not good.

Speaker 5 (21:29):
They're just Ohio State and Georgia are in the same boat.
Those are those are two teams you kind of started
against Penn State last week. You saw it with Georgia
and Florida. Those there's still the two best teams in
the country.

Speaker 7 (21:40):
I know the Oregon thing.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
And all that, but they're just playing so tight. It's
like every single snap is microanalyzed, like, oh no, they
missed a third Duncan version, Ryan Day's on a hot
seed and oh no, Carlon beck Is, you know, throwing
an interception. He's not the number one overall pick. It's
just like they are still they're playing with so much pressure.

(22:02):
And I know they're professionals now, and I know, you know,
the different world they're used to this, but there's still
college kids and they, you know, unlike you know, teams
like Indiana and teams like even Oregon, who hasn't really
won anything. It's gonna be playing with a lot more fun.
That just seems like a little more confident. But these
two ulter talented teams were if you don't win the
national championship, your season is a complete failure. Especially now

(22:26):
that they're on there's a you know, twenty million dollar
payroll things happening here. Yeah, it's he's playing like a
guy who's got all the pressure in the world on
his shoulders because.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
It is college football insider Pete feu Tech our guest
Jason Smith, Mike Harbon live the tirach dot Com Studios.
All right, Pete, let's go to Colorado and Texas Tech.
Colorado suddenly is back and I got to give them
a lot of credit because they did something this year
that I didn't think they could do. They put their
heads down and played football for the last six weeks.
I didn't think it was possible. I didn't think they

(22:58):
could just win games and you went in fashion without
gaining crazy ass headlines and distractions from the team. But
I give them a lot of credit. They've been able
to win and get back on the fringes of the
playoff picture.

Speaker 5 (23:09):
Yeah, and you know what the crazy part about all
this is that if it wasn't Dion and all the Dion,
That's what I'm.

Speaker 7 (23:16):
I said before, I'm a big fan of it. If
it wasn't for all the fringe stuff, you'd have.

Speaker 5 (23:21):
Said that that's the progression. If you're a good head
coach and you are starting out and you are taking.

Speaker 7 (23:26):
Me over just a horrible program. I mean, Colorado didn't
win for years, and then all of a sudden, you
won a few games.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
You boosted the team up, and you know it wasn't
a bowl season, but you know you won a few
more games in your first year, the first year of improvement,
and then year two is where you make that little
jump up. There they're making the progression that's what normal
teams do when this works without all the fan fare.
And you know, look, I'm not sold on any Big
twelve team.

Speaker 7 (23:53):
I'm kind of under.

Speaker 5 (23:54):
The belief that the Big twelves just got awful. But hey,
someone's got to keep winning, and they're doing it. I mean,
they're playing some defense now, they're not really running the
ball still as Tudora still is, you know, the main
man there and there. He's still getting rocked. But look,
they just kind of keep winning games now.

Speaker 7 (24:11):
And like you said, I mean, it's being.

Speaker 5 (24:13):
In the college football playoff picture along with everyone else
in the Big twelve except for the teams we thought
were going to be in the college football playoff picture
before the season.

Speaker 7 (24:22):
The Big Twelve just get.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
In the Big Twelve championship game and spit in the
wheel and you're gonna, you know, get in this thing.
I don't think they're gonna be the fourth seed maybe,
but they're gonna certainly get in.

Speaker 7 (24:32):
Obviously if you're the Big twLF champion.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Pete, we only had a couple you know, head to
heads between top twenty fives, anybody on upset alert up
at the top, you know, like Michigan getting fourteen and
a half at Indiana and things like that.

Speaker 7 (24:46):
I was gonna pull That's exactly what I was gonna say.

Speaker 5 (24:48):
I it's some point. Reality is gonna have to come
to breakfast here with this thing.

Speaker 4 (24:54):
Isn't it.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
I can't give Indiana one year every thirty years, peak,
come on, and they had Anthony Thompson. You're in Antoine
Randall l and now they have this year. That's what
it is.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Thirty years, try one hundred and twenty six years. They
lay this program has never had a ten win.

Speaker 7 (25:13):
Season in its entire history.

Speaker 5 (25:16):
They beat Michigan tomorrow, they not only pretty much lock
up a college football playoff spot because they got a
free space against Purdue to close, even though they're gonna
get roasted by Ohio States.

Speaker 7 (25:26):
So basically, you win tomorrow, you one beat Michigan.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
Two, you have the first ten win season in program history. Three,
you're gonna probably be eleven and one. And actually, and
here's the corek Cluely in now that I think it's
the glitch and the matrix. Being eleven to one and
not playing for a conference championship is actually the dream
because if you're Penn State and you're gonna probably go

(25:53):
eleven and one. If you're SMU and you're probably gonna
go eleven and one, although they might play for the
a SEC championship. And if you're in the and you
go eleven and one, that means that you are going
to get a college football playoff home game, and so
your thirteenth game is going to be at home. You
get an extra few weeks to rest, you don't have
to deal with a conference championship game.

Speaker 7 (26:14):
You know.

Speaker 5 (26:14):
The big losers in kind of this in the college
football playoff world are the conference championship losers because they've
got to play an extra game, which means they get
an extra loss, which means they probably don't get a
home game, or if they do, it's you know, an
eight nine seed or a seventh seed, so they kind
of drop down a little bit in the rankings and
so they don't get that extra time off. So if

(26:36):
you're Indiana, best of all world, yeah go go go
for it, go eleven and one, and let Oregon in
ohise they beat each other up for a game for
the championship. Well, you're resting up and getting ready for
the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
He's on Twitter at Pete feud tag that is at
Pete feutech again college Footballnews dot com. You're one stop
shopping for everything college football, all the breakdown, all the analysis,
all the picks. And he's got eight hundred words coming
on the history of Indiana football going back one hundred
and twenty six years. Pete, looking forward to it. My

(27:08):
friend will talk to you. Enjoy the games. Great stuff there. Look,
I'd love to be able to pick Indiana. I mean,
I don't know why we have. What's wrong? Indiana is
the Hoosiers. Michigan's the Wolverine pirates. There are no pirates,
no Wolverine. Be a pirate, boy. It will be interesting

(27:29):
dressing up a Wolverine as a pirate.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
Dude, I'm making an animated Wolverine.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
If you dressed up Away as a pirate, it would
look like Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy. But if
it was Deadpool, pirate and Wolverine. Oh do see, now
you got something? Now you got to see how you
got something. I didn't think about that. I would love
to pick Michigan to win this game. And I can
say this because my wife has gone to pick up
my daughter and she's not listening. I would love to
pick Michigan to win this game, but their offense just
they have nothing. I mean, they figured out what they

(27:55):
probably should have figured out early on, is that they
have Okay, Davis Warren is the quarterback and then you
know Orgy comes in as the has the gadget guy.
But the offense is just so limited. We've gone over
the fact that it's been a horrible season. How do
you not have another quarterback ready to go? I'd love
to see Michigan be able to stay in it and
stay close. I don't know if they could cover. I mean,
it's probably going to be close a little while out

(28:16):
of the gate because Michigan's defense is good and I
don't see Indiana running away and you know, running up
a whole bunch of trick plays. But eventually this game
has like thirty one, thirty four to thirteen written all
over it for Indiana, just.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
That offense churning at a whole other level, and with
Michigan's offense struggling as it is, no matter how good
Michigan's d is, you're broken down by the second half.
So I think that's the fair assessment. Close early hope
for a turnover to keep you in the game, maybe
give you a little bit of a puncher's chance, but overall,
right now Indiana is just clicking out on a whole

(28:51):
other level unless they get caught looking ahead, right because
they do have a big game the following week, so
may maybe that opens the door for you. How about that.
I'm going down to the Michigan football going, well, maybe
maybe they're looking past Michigan foots.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Oh, my wife hates you. She she just hates you.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
What man, if after ten plus years she already didn't
wait and I'd be this ain't gonna change it.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
And if you wind up ruining Michigan, like if Michigan
becomes bold ineligible because they can't beat Northwestern in a week,
and she'll hate you even more because that's Michigan's last
win on the schedule is Northwestern.

Speaker 4 (29:32):
I already have a bunch of Northwestern.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swalling down The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the tirec dot
Com studios. Now, a guy who got weight listed at Northwestern,
so he went to Oxford. It's Steve de Sager with
what's trending in the wide world of sports? And do
you know their nickname. I do not the the dictionaries,
they weren't SMI. They were the Commerce for a long time.

(30:00):
They changed somewhere in the seventies to the dictionaries.

Speaker 6 (30:03):
You know, when we're going through Pirates there, I thought,
if we had a battle with the pirates hook and
the wolverine claw, ah okay, then we're.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
All four round. That might be more entertaining than Indiana Michigan.

Speaker 6 (30:16):
Tomorrow and half of the Marvel movies that come out now.
Onto the fourth quarter at the Rose Bowl, Ucla holding
on to a lead against Iowa seventeen to ten, and
they've just finished cal wins an ACC game for the
first time forty six thirty six at wake Forest, Memphis.
Late third quarter leads Rice seventeen thirteen. Second quarter on
FS one. New Mexico leads at San Diego State fourteen

(30:39):
to six. Saturday afternoon on Fox TV Number twenty Colorado
at Texas Tech after the Ohio State Perdue broadcast. The
first playoff ranking came out this past Tuesday. The full
playoff bracket will be announced in a month December. The
eighth Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis will start Sunday The
forty nine ers say they plan to activate running back
Christian Caffrey tomorrow. Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence is listed as

(31:04):
questionable but likely out this weekend with a left shoulder injury.
The Yankees picked up manager Aaron Boone's contract option for
next year. The Phillies promoted Preston matting Lee to general
manager GM. Sam Fuld will become President of Business Operations
in the future. Matting Lee, son of Don Mattinglee, is
thirty seven years old. Coco Goff advanced, will.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
You play first base because you know they have an
opening now for saying you can visit the mound just
as often out up.

Speaker 6 (31:32):
Coco Golf advanced to the championship of the WTA Finals,
beating number one Arena Sablenca. In college basketball tonight, number
one Kansas blew a twenty point lead late first st
hat but still defeated number nine ranked North Carolina.

Speaker 1 (31:45):
Ninety two to eighty nine.

Speaker 6 (31:47):
And this from Fox six in Alabama that the flight
that appeared to be the Auburn men's basketball team heading
to Houston for a game this weekend was diverted back
to Auburn this afternoon. They got a hold of the
air traffic control audio where the pilot is saying, we
have a bunch of basketball players fighting. Flight deck, secure
threat level contained police on the ground. We had players

(32:10):
into a physical altercation. Clothes were ripped, and apparently one
of the players was bloody.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Wow, no video of that. Anytime something happens on a
plane here. We had to turn around because of this.
There's video, someone takes video.

Speaker 4 (32:24):
One of the benchwarmers has video.

Speaker 6 (32:26):
Man, I'm telling you that's not going to come out
until his last day on the team. Apparently there was
a flight fight on the flight between one player and
two brothers that are on the roster, and those three
had to be restrained and the flight landed back in Auburn.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
As to the pro game, we've.

Speaker 6 (32:44):
Got the Lakers leading mid third quarter at home against
Philadelphia eighty to sixty nine. Austin reeves six of eight
from three point range. He has twenty points. Anthony Davis
has scored twenty four. The other late game has the
Clippers leading sixty three fifty five mid third.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Quarter at Sacramento.

Speaker 6 (33:01):
The Knicks are up to four and four after beating
Milwaukee won sixteen to ninety four. Bucks record two and
seven wins again for Oklahoma City, eight and one for Phoenix,
which is eight and one for Boston and overtime Celtics
eight and two. Detroit beat Atlanta one twenty two to
one twenty one Cad Cunningham a last second block, and
Cleveland is ten and zero after ripping Golden State. The

(33:22):
halftime lead was eighty three forty two. Cabs who win
the game one thirty six, one seventeen.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve Though The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carmon live from thetirack dot Com Studios.
Coming up next, our Football Friday continues. Is the NFL
team with the best offense gonna get a w on Sunday?
What about the one with the best defense? And that
might not be the team you think it is. That's
it's coming up next, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the ti rack dot Com Studios. We'll have
big stuff out of the NBA coming up. In a
few minutes. Maybe all the Lakers need to do is
bench D'Angelo Russell.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
To you, but.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
It is a big football Friday, and we always look
it's a big college football NFL. Thanks to Pete Futach
for stopping bios a few minutes ago. Now, let's take
a look ahead at let's do this NFL team with
the best offense, NFL team with the best defense, how
are they gonna do this week?

Speaker 4 (34:31):
Okay, goo with that?

Speaker 1 (34:32):
All right, let's go number one. Let's take a look
at the game of the week with the Lions and
the Texans. At some point, I'm gonna bet against the Lions.
This is not that week, all right. It's a Sunday
night game. Yes, they're on the road. We saw them
went on the road last week against Green Bay in
a dominant fashion. My only concern for the Lions are

(34:52):
they peaking too early. I'm gonna pick the Lions, and
I've been doing great stay picking the Lions every single week,
picking them point spread. The Texans. This is not the
Texans team we thought they were going to be. They
have a lot of injuries. They were embarrassed by the Jets.
I know they have time off to lick their wounds
a little bit, and potentially Nico Collins is coming back.

(35:13):
It is not gonna be enough to keep up with
the Lions. Here. Give me the Lions big in this one.
It'd be entertaining a lot of offense over unders forty
eight and a half. I'll take the over, but I'll
take the Lions again.

Speaker 3 (35:23):
Lions giving three and a half in this one on
the road. Nico Collins back at practice on Friday, but
the revolving Nora means take Dell had to go back
through it with a back injury, so we'll see what
happens there. We've talked about the offensive line woes, and
even though hutch ain't there, you're still getting a pretty
persistent pass rush from the Detroit Lions, which means tough

(35:43):
sledding for CJ.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
Stroud.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
Yeah, really tough to pick against this squad. I don't
see Houston suddenly matching that offense that the Lions are
putting out. I think they just run the ball down
their throats, a lot of Montgomery, a lot of Gibbs,
get the w and move on.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
If this was a full throttled, fully loaded Texans team
offensively and they had everybody and had all their weapons.
A team we thought about the beginning of the year.
I would say, Wow, this will be a back and
forth game whoever has the ball last. But the Texans
just don't have it right now. They just don't have
enough horse And nobody has enough horses to keep up
with the Lions, let alone when you're worried about injuries
and you have your best wide receiver is tek Dell,

(36:21):
who's a good player, but he's not great and he's hurt.
And now maybe you get Collins back. Who knows. I
can't pick against against them. Now when we get to
team with the we get to the team with the
best defense in the NFL. And this is kind of
morphed over the last few weeks. And you can argue
all you want about stats and numbers, but it always

(36:42):
boils down to you. And this is one of your
favorite sayings, how many points are you allowing? The Chargers
allowing just twelve and a half points a week. This
is the best defense in the NFL. I get they
haven't had the most difficult of schedules, but all they
do is get off the field on third down. I
know they had a good stat week last week, and

(37:02):
that's good. You had three sacks, you had five sacks,
you had three turnovers. It makes them look like they're
top third of the league in those stat categories, like
they're really good. But really, this was just last week
was a big stat game for them. This is not
a team that is at the top of sacks, of takeaways,
of interceptions and fumbles. They simply get off the field

(37:22):
on third down and they do not allow you to score.
And that's the real measure of how good a defense
you have. We're great against the path, Yeah it doesn't bet,
but you're still allowing twenty four points a game. The
Chargers just do not allow you to score. They make
it so difficult. Their offense has enough spark running the ball.
Lad McConkie's turning into a star, and Quentin Johnston now
every three or four weeks is having a big week.

(37:45):
Justin Herbert starting to pick things up a little bit.
I don't see there Anywhen they lose this game against Tennessee,
they'll be six and three. We're talking about them as
one of the lead wildcard teams. But this is the
best defense in the NFL right now, and it's going
to keep rolling.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
On Sunday seven and a half if the home favorites,
thirty eight and a half is the total here?

Speaker 4 (38:04):
Oh and Will Levis is back.

Speaker 3 (38:06):
So all those things you said about the defense, think
about what their stats are gonna look like when this
one is done, because you know he's going to give
you a couple of opportunities to make big plays. And
you look at what Justin Herbert's been doing taking care
of the football, and you're seeing more of the balanced attack, right,
a little bit of the regression from the running backs
because you need them come December, come January. You're playing

(38:28):
meaningful football for Justin Herbert. Last four weeks two thirty seven,
three nine, two eighty two, five touchdowns, no picks for
the year ten touchdowns against one interception. Good efficient football
and to your point, wide receivers starting to step up.
Quintin Johnson, a guy that everybody laughed off and look,
he had a lot of rough points last year as

(38:49):
a rook really picking it up in year two.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
Yeah, I mean, it's it's really something to see Harbaugh
starting to put his stamp on this team. You thought
it would be offensively kind of in a in a
roundabout way, it is because you know, they're kind of
taking on his identity. Herbert's starting to throw the ball
a little bit more now. But man, what they've been
able to do defensively and able to just throttle teams

(39:12):
really getting off the field on third down. It it's
the best thing you can do. And the Chargers simply
do that. How many times I watched teams with possessions
and it looks like this is just gonna be three plays.
They're throwing stuff up against the wall and the Chargers
are walking off the field. I mean, that's that's kind
of what I'm seeing from them every single week.

Speaker 4 (39:29):
Stats for days.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Let's go exit out about a Fresco exit swalling down
the Jason Smiths Show with Mike Carmon live from the
Tireck dot Com studios. Lines are the best offense, Charge
are the best defense. Yeah, look at a couple of
dubs coming up for them. We'll have more NFL on
the way, more big games to pick, more big football
Friday contact to break down. But coming up next, we

(39:50):
have two giant stories out of the NBA tonight. One
involves a team who I thought as head coach, their
head coach wasn't gonna make it till Christmas. Now they
might not make get to Thanksgiving. That's next, right here,
