big night in football with the new college football playoff poll.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Oh yeah, and.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
There's all already one thing that I can tell that
we're starting to get to with the college football playoff Paul,
that I have to nip in the bud, have to
nip in the bud. But okay, before we get to that,
we have to talk about what just happened between the
Pistons and the heat. I don't know the last time
the Pistons have been the top story out of show.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
But hey, here we are.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Well we're almost at the anniversary of the Mouse in
the Palace, right.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
That's probably the last time. Yeah, yeah, maybe, yeah, maybe
maybe the DRAF was that number one.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
I don't know. He got some run. Yeah, he was
kind of a big deal.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
But the first story.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
He's a good player that everybody categorically just missed.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Yeah, I mean he's got a he got the max. Like,
there's nobody that's done less to get the Max than
Kate Cunningham. But I mean really, but d still Joe
first story didn't get the max. Uh oh, there's guys
over paid. But I'm what max when when it's this
is the most I can give you? Well, hang on,
hang on, Hey, I give you more, but it's the
most I can give you. Wait, hang on, hang on,
(02:03):
hang on, hang on, hang on. They could even they
could have given Daniel Jones more money.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
No, but I mean Cunningham would have been the first
pick on draft night, so he would have led the
show a draft night.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Would he I'm trying to remember back if if if that,
if that was the number one story.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
See now you're like, all right, what else happened in
that draft?
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Kate Cunningham NBA Draft? Like was this?
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah? It was that the top story in twenty twenty one.
That the top story of the night. That's a tough one, man.
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Was there some other football being played?
Speaker 2 (02:38):
A mac was a action that we were.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Paying attention to Miami Ohio play against Northern Illinois?
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Was it was their game there? Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:48):
I don't know, man, I I don't, I don't. I
guess he would have been.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
No, that would have been the end of July. So
I mean at baseball game. I get no, it would
it would have been Kate Cunningham. So that's the last
time Detroit was featured and a nons non lion.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
You know what, I'm sorry, No, I'm not gonna I'm
gonna no, I'm gonna challenge that. I'm gonna die. Want
to throw the challenge flag that you have to prove
to me that that was the number one That was
the number one story of the NBA Draft.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Well, the draft? What else was there?
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Because there could have been a trade that day. There
could have been a trade that day that was a
bigger deal. I mean they they drafted Luca Garza in
that draft too, and that was you know, hawks, I'm.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Telling you, man, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
I I'm gonna throw a child. You're gonna have to
prove to me that that was the number one story.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Anyway.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Why are the Pistons and the Heat the number one
story the night?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Well, luckily we're going to tell you.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Look, the Pistons have actually been playing a little bit
better this season. They haven't been the Hey we're just gonna,
you know, lose and start like oh to nine. No,
the Pistons are five and seven, and with the first
night of the NBA Cup, let's go like, suddenly, this
is a you know that the Eminence Cup is not
a put on the Eminence Cup.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
It's it's a big deal with the live version. He
would then say, it's something that is not FCC appropriate.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
So the Heat and the Pistons in this game, I mean,
I might know it's it's the NBA Cup.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
We're coming down to it.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
The Heat and the Pistons are tied at one twenty
one in overtime, right, so this is a pretty good game, right,
I mean, yes, it is. The Heat and the Pistons,
but they're tied at one twenty one a piece in overtime.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Okay, what's going on?
Speaker 1 (04:27):
There is one second left after a Jalen Duran alley
oop dunk that ties the game at one twenty one apiece.
All right, well it looks like we're going to do
over again. Sure, except a very very frustrated Eric Spolstra
decided I am done coaching in this game because he
(04:47):
does something that he shouldn't have done and the heat
go down because of it.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
So Cunningham nobody's guarding him.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
And it cuts durs oh Man, unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
In seven tenths of a second, they tie the game
in one.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Twenty one the Pistons.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
You're walking off the court full time out.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
Oh no, but referee is saying that coach Spoe has
called a timeout and that's a technical powl.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Is the heater out of timeouts? Oh boy? Oh boy
is right?
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Heat Radio network on the call. I can just say myself, going,
oh boy is right? Noon time to do a shot.
Eric Spolstruk is frustrated, calls a timeout. Did not like
the play. They're not like the way that play went.
It was an easy alley oop with one second left
to go in the game. They tie the game, He's frustrated,
calls a timeout that the Heat do not have. Malik
(05:46):
easily makes both free throws and the Pistons win. It
won twenty three to one, twenty one. Now, when I
tell you, if you said to me, okay, Jason Tonight,
an NBA head coach is gonna call timeout when they
don't have any at the end of the game, I
would say, okay, are the Lakers playing No, I would say, okay.
Of the list, the absolute last guy who will do that,
(06:09):
the absolute last guy who will do that is Eric Spolster.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
He's the last.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
He is the last guy, the smartest. I would put
him so far to b He's not. He's not gonna
do it. And yet, for the second time in the
last five minutes, I say, yet, here we are. Eric
Spolster calls time out he doesn't have two free throws
with no time left, and the Pistons improved to five.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
And I think this just proves Eric Spolster has been
watching too much NFL football this year. You have no management,
no control of what that what's going on in the.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Final minutes game.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
You think he was upset and confused that that that
play was supposed to be down the red line and
and the plans go on the red line.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
He got really mad and he.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Called the time out, red line, red line, Come on
the red line, well, red line.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
He gets all in for.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
Anosed to off the red line, red line.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
I mean the last guy. He is the last.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
There are so many other coach. I would say yes,
absolute one hundred percent. Tims would be up there too.
I don't think Tims would do it, because Tims are
too much. He's just thinking about lots of you know,
I could tell that the cloud over his head, he's
not gonna do that. Uh even Doc Rivers, I would say, yeah,
probably not, but I would put Spolster ahead, like I
could see Doc doing it before I could see Spolster
doing I mean spols the last anything past Doc calling
(07:23):
time out he doesn't have because that's his fault. Who
else can you blame the assistant coach? You still has
told me wanted to time out. I'm gonna listen to
my guys. I'm gonna let Yannist wanted a time out.
I'm gonna listen to it. We're gonna have a time out.
He wanted to time out and call a timeout. You know,
good coach listens to his players all the time. I know,
I'm even you.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Do like that.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
But people have come around to our Hey, Doc ain't
gonna have a job soon.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Take but I still think spols will do it less
than Doc will.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
He's still the last guy.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Well, he's always about the devil in the details kind
of thing. So for that to come up is but
the big deal. Tyler hero forty points had a nice
leaning shot that's making the highlight rounds and all of that.
But I mean, come on, it's day one. I can
eat all of the N season, Emirates Cup journament.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
This is so great.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
I can even see Steve Kerr calling a time out.
He doesn't have before Eric Spolstra.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Does he have a microphone in his hand because he
wants to give a speech about something.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
You know, I called the time out.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Didn't have once want to let you know, no, because
he's a guy, the first thing he would say at
the press conference would be, that's my fault. I'm dumb,
I'm an idiot. I shouldn't have done that. I hurt
the team. I apologize with them after, but I can set.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
The whole time doing it, but the whole time he's
saying it, talking down to you.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
I'm an Idiot's my fault.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Yeah, yeah, it's my fault. And he's staring daggers at
the reporter that asked the question.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Or maybe make Steve Kerr maybe making you feel bad
for asking the question that he's an idiot.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Do you feel happy now that a minute?
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Do you feel happy? Are you happy about that?
Speaker 4 (08:53):
Does anybody win with the question you asked right there?
Speaker 1 (08:55):
No?
Speaker 4 (08:56):
I don't think they did. By the way I was
looking up July twenty ninth of twenty twenty one, the
big headlines Dusty Hill from ZZ Top died.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
We wouldn't have started with that. No for King Richard
because because I met him. I met him once to
have a really good Dusty Hill store. Did you do
your little No? No, it was such an I'll tell
you know what. I will tell that story later tonight.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
That sounds great. The Olympics were going on, so we
but they wouldn't. We wouldn't have led with the Olympics.
Maybe it was something United was performing. Maybe we were
gonna leave with that. Now, Okay, ray Gun four years
ago kind of a big deal. I mean now that
everybody's stealing her moves for for their celebratory end zone things. Uh,
United States played cutter and one one nothing in soccer.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
We would have led with that. We would not have led.
I think we would have led with that. I don't
think I think we would have. I think I would have.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
I'm really surprised at what we led with tonight. I
don't believe you.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
I can't.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
I really, I don't know. I don't believe you at all.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Not led that. It would have been Kate Cunningham getting
draft because the draft would have been delayed almost a
full month because of co and all of that. So
it would have been a big you.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Gotta proud, No you got you gotta go back and
find that. We find the archives. We have archives, we don't.
We've deleted everything from Monday Night Football from last night.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
We don't have.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
We don't have any of the Rams field goals from
last night. We're not gonna have that show. I don't
forty we had the field goals to begin with. Make
it seem like we did. Okay, we can see look
at it, oh.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Maybe fifty seven yard try, and then it was deleted
when it went no good.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Just an absolute stunning thing. Sports was talking about it.
Right now, we'll bring you what he says. I am sure,
he said, I'm an idiot. He's the most guy in
the world. Uh. Now, the latest college football poll is out,
and I will tell you two big things now coming
off this pole. First of all, Oregon's number one, no
real surprise, Ohio State number two, Texas is third, Penn
(10:47):
State is fourth, showing you that loss last week meant
absolutely nothing. And Indiana is number five.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Go Hoosiers.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Now, obviously there's going to be the way the top
twelve pole is. You know, it's good to be different
when you get to the end because there's different scenarios
that go into it, such as the top five division
winners or the top five conference winners all get in.
The top four are the top four seeds. So it's
gonna look a little bit different than how it is.
(11:15):
It's kind of like the NCAA turn when you say, well,
here's your top twenty five. How is a team who
was twelfth a two seed. Well that's that's how it goes.
It goes differently. Now, there's two big things that I'll
tell you right now, just with this latest poll, which
team are going to decide number one? No, no, no, no, no,
number one. I'll tell you this is that. The one
conversation I'm not gonna have any patients for is, oh,
(11:35):
why are we seeded so low? We should be a
higher seed. We should be here. You get in the playoff,
don't bleep and complain. Nobody, don't complain. Don't complain about
your seed. Don't complain. You should be hired. Nobody should
be here. We should be this. That's why they have
a whole top four seeds. You win your conference'suff that
stops all of this. Oh, we're better if you're in
(11:57):
the turn You're in. Okay, It's like the NCA term.
You can be up about your seat, but I don't
want to hear complaining about it.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Because you're in. You're in. You have a chance.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
There's no buys.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
It's the top twelve teams ISH in the country, and
there's a reason that's take number two. It's top twelve
teams ISH in the country, and you're one of them.
You gotta beat good teams to go. But I can
already see the whole jockeying for playoff seed, and we
should be higher, and we're here and we're this. I
can already see that happening because everybody wants the advantage
of being the higher seat. But you know what, I'm
(12:27):
gonna have no patience for that. It's you're in, you're
in the top twelve team, you're in the playoff, you're in.
Just go go play, go play, go in.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
See.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
I'm all for it because then we parse it out
and it gets us more hot. Sports take debates and
fan bases get all fired up. It's good for business,
Jason Smith, it's good for business in your way. I
think everybody saying I'm happy to be here, No, no blank,
there's still need to be fired up, with.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Your hand ready to take down.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Whatever the last vestiges is. Who these people are that
are making the decision.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
It's just you.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
There's better stuff you can put your energy. Yet there's
way better I'm.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Not saying there's not.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
But for the purpose of what we do, you want
to probably want people fired up. I want the eighties
pissed off. They stole that game from us. There was
great content. If he'd gone damn, that sucks.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
That doesn't give us anything.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Does you gotta be mad?
Speaker 2 (13:20):
No finger point and scream and you're.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Gonna have an aneurysm. You want to get mad about everything.
There's gotta be a proportional response to the generally a
happy anything that happens. You are like, it's the worst
thing in the world. I'm like, dude, you gotta back
up or.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
It's the best. No, you can't like Shaw, you can't.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
You can't. You can't make like, Hey, the Bulls suck
and the and the Bears suck, and that's equal like
the Bears that that that's where your.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
Blood pressure is up high. You need medication.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
The ball. You can't make the bull suck. No, I
can't know because they've also been down here. There were
no expectations' make this so most exciting he coming in
for the Bulls this year was that Lonzo Ball might play.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Dude, you can't come on. That was the whole off.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
You can't put this whole college football player arguing about
the Seeds as high as it is that your team
is now a bigger dumpster fire in the end than
any other team in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
You got to be proportional.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
That's me. I'm talking the outside world that brings it
to us and puts it on the platter.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
I need them pissed off.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
I need them threatening to tear down walls and create chaos,
because then we can grab that wrapper.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Arms around it.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
How do you get in here to the Fox Sports
Radio studios and have a nice discussion.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
About do I have a pill for you? I have
to need a pill, tight shirt, I need a pill
for harmon. H Okay, how about this? How about I
give you something to be upset about. How about I
give you something to be upset about?
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Next?
Speaker 1 (14:39):
How about I go I give you something real that
you could be upset about. Okay, I'll give you something real.
You feel better, pet, You're smiling because I said I
have a pill for you. You're like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
give me, give me the pill, give me the match,
have to take my medication. So I got plenty, I got,
I got something big for you. Really want to be upset?
I got something for you. College football wise coming up next. Plus, yes,
we get into the t that is the new biggest
(15:01):
dumpster fire in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Congratulations Chicago ah Bears, you have so earned it.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
That's coming up next right here, Jason and Mike Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app Fox.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon Live from the Tirack dot Com studios. And uh,
we'll get into the new team that's the biggest dumpster
fire in the NFL. Wait, I tell you they were really,
they were really, absolutely intent on becoming that new big
(15:45):
dumpster fire. They wanted to overtake the Jets. And congratulations
to that team. But first I said to you a
few minutes ago, you seen a little overly upset or
overly you know, wanting to get into the debate of
where the team should be ranked in the college football
playoff pole.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
No, I just say it.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
I need fired up fan bases to be pissed off.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
That's not See. There's better places to put your energy. Okay,
there's better place.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
I'm not arguing.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
There is of our jobs. To have the ads, the coaches,
the players, and of course the lunatic fringe of the
fans arguing about the merits of their squad.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
That's good for business. No, No, here's what you want.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
I'll tell you want to put your upset because I
can tell you always want to get upset.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
You always want to be mad. You want to be
mad right away about stuff. So let me tell you.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
I'll give you two things you can be mad right
away about this playoff poll. Okay, one thing absolutely is
gonna I think it's gonna change, and another one we'll
have to see. The first one is this the top
five teams in the quote Power five conferences getting in. Yeah,
that's not gonna fly after this year. Congratulations Mountain West.
(16:53):
I can't see that happening again after this year because
somebody's gonna get left out and it's gonna be a
three loss SEC team, and they're gonna say, how can
you take the champion from the Mountain West. They don't
even have a conference anymore, how can you take them?
That's something that's going to make up, that's going to
foster change in the playoff poll for next year. I
(17:14):
think it depends on who gets left out number one,
what that record is. It'll be a three loss SEC
or Big ten team, and that's gonna do it.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
I think they're representation that it won't be you.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Left out Florida now you're telling me there's something to
not be upset about.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
You want to be upset.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
About something that's not worth gonna be all upset about it,
And you're saying, no, this is not something to be
upset about it.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
I'm saying it's not gonna necessarily change. It's not concealed
what we you know it's absolutely consisting. Because you said
it's gonna make change, I'm saying it's not.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
You got immediately.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
You don't seem nearly as upset about that.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
When when a good team, a good team from a
Power five car is gonna get left out? Yeah, no,
get left out? Wait what, I'm not mad about it?
What are you upset about the seatings? Oh we should
be higher. Yeah, but we got left out entirely I'll
be mad about that.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
No, No, they'll be pissed. But does it necessarily They'll be
three or four teams probably in the same boat. You
might have representatives that from both the Big ten and
SEC that want to fight each other with their three.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Losses, I don't know who you are anymore, which.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Leaves that Mountain West team standing high while those guys
fight each other.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
This is like, that's what I'm saying this is like
if the two things happen to me and and and
one is okay. Uh, someone's dog defecates on my lawn
and my car gets stolen. I don't really care if
if the if the dog, I'll.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Clean it up.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
And that's a big minor thing. The car getting stolen
is a big thing. You're upset more about the dog
and your lawn than you are by your car.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
Well, it's a matter of respect. Someone may have needed
that car. I don't get a guy respect.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
I'm gonna steal that guy's car because I know he's
not gonna chase that.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
But there might have been a you know, desperation, and
you don't know that person's backstory, the person who let
the dog just go through their business.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
I don't know someone's stealing a car. It's just disrespectful.
You probably have a good reason to steal you. I'll
just give you the keys. How about this, I'll start
it for you. It's a thumb print thing, so I'll
just do and then you just take the cargo wherever
you want to go and and just take it just.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
Oh, you might have to do that under dresses the story.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
I mean, that's a that's going to be a bigger
deal that that's going to be a huge controversy coming
off of this year.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
What are you talking about? But what are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Yeah, that's that's inevitable, right because it becomes the our,
our conference is better than yours, which is the you know,
measuring stick that we do. I was trying to be
kind because we're still early. I can't use the analogies
that you'd like to. It's like busting out the tape
measures and comparing our accolades and our accomplishments here and
(19:48):
every conference does that, right, It's like, well, what's our
record here in bowls against you? Like they start bringing
in stuff that doesn't matter from coaches that are long
departed from these sidelines, like well for the last two
for years, we're doing well. It's twenty twenty four to
due day yesterday, it's an old day now for the
casual fan, having the Mountain West team in there is
gonna be pretty exciting. But yeah, to your point, there's
(20:11):
gonna be three or four teams that are all gonna say, well,
we lost three, but our three look at our three
versus you know those two lost teams.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
This is not the two thousand and four Boise State.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Oh hey, look the guy scored a touchdown, send Adrian
Peterson home and and proposed to his girlfriend.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
That's not this that's not this era.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Yeah, the highest by state gets in over Georgia, right,
because boys day, do you like how they're sitting there,
like Boise State's right at thirteen? Like right, Georgia they
get in over Georgia or Texas A and M or Colorado.
You really think that's gonna be something that's not Okay,
We're gonna rectify all of that. There's gonna be changes
now because we don't want that to happen again. I mean,
(20:52):
because there's stubshere. I could say, okay, you don't want
to It's hard to argue when you get outside of twelve.
But you're talking about Boise State, Geordan. I mean it
goes back to the philosophy of you let the mid
major teams in the NCAA Tournament when I don't think
they should be in at all because they don't play
the schedule that the Power five conferences do. I'm sorry,
but playing an ACC schedule is a lot more difficult
(21:15):
than playing a Horizon League schedule, right, I'm I'm just
great that you're twenty three and seven in the Horizon League.
That's awesome. But if you're twenty three, what are you
gonna be in the ACC?
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Five hundred?
Speaker 4 (21:25):
Maybe, but in the new world college athletics, where it's
now a professional sport and acknowledged as such, then we
might as well just say you guys aren't eligible. You're
not even considered to be part of this. If if
we're gonna go down that road, if we're gonna just say, well,
you know, and we're gonna argue all these conferences, well
you you would be five hundred over here, Well you're not.
(21:48):
I mean, if you want to simulate it and pick
your captain against my captain and we sit down with
a video game, and that's how you want to toss it,
or have some jackass do a one hundred million simulations,
trot out the guy from the elections and gonna be.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
I don't even think it's I don't even think it's controversial.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
I mean, you're talking about a team that's played Prairie
View and and and you toss State and Hawaii and you, yes,
a couple of teams are not bad. UNLV is not
bad a couple of teams, but suddenly say, hey, here
you are.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
You're in. That's a difficult thing, man, But that's difficult.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Here's what we do. They never crack anywhere near the
top top twelve. Okay, but okay, where you have it.
Now you're you're opening it up for a.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
One lost Mountain West team, not an undefeated Mountain West team,
a one lost Mountain Yes, your loss was to Oregon
and Oregon's number one team in the company, and it
was close. But a one lost Mountain Western. You wait
and see what that is. If Georgia is home, you
wait and see. If you thought Kirby Smart was mad
one of his players was celebrating with the other team, Wait,
do you see what happens if Georgia gets left out?
Speaker 4 (22:46):
So Boise State, I think they should go back and
watch some of these take and recognize where they failed.
And Carson was.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
A jag just on the way until a team that
has all kinds of influence and makes money for college football,
they're like very many where there's where we have to
go and do our line of demarcation. It is something
we've talked about forever, is what's the best TV show
which means if Colorado runs out, even if by whatever metrics,
(23:15):
they should still be fifteenth or fourteenth or whatever it is.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
No, they're in.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
We know this because the spectacle, the eyeballs that it brings,
the dollars it brings, and sure, Boise State, you've got
the Heisman Trophy, favorite non quarterback and the stories and
smurf turf and everything that go with that, and I
get it. On a grand scale. The question is do
(23:39):
they hang with these squads? I don't know that. It
wasn't that part of the excitement of expanding to twelve
that a one loss team from a conference like that
gets in.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
A one loss team, a one loss team from the
Mountain West getting in a one loss team from the
Mountain Look.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
Just because your Syracusan rigs didn't take care of business
this last I'll do.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Don't get mad. How does coach showered?
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Maybe they would be in it.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
No, that's true.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Hey, listen, fran bun and his team did.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Ran Brown punishes himself and his family by not showering
after a lost family gets you have a bad show?
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Do you not?
Speaker 3 (24:14):
You soap?
Speaker 4 (24:15):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (24:15):
You know there's sometimes I say no, I want to
I want to. I want to make myself go after
something tomorrow. So no selp right now, you just use
a Big Mac is deodorant. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, no,
you get the little saw. That's why you get extra sauce.
But under your arms, oh.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Yeah, yeah, no, that's great.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Mike, you're looking at me like he doesn't do it.
Oh my underarms smell like thousand Islands.
Speaker 4 (24:33):
I think this is an FCC violation. It should be
what you just did to America. You want to be upset.
You think you can be upset. The three teen like
someone get left out at three teams, though, is not
nearly as upsetting as the image you just putting people free.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
You think you can't buy somewhere big Mac flavored deodorant
or sentence sorry not flavor. Can't You're not going to
eat it, although I would if I make.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
It in your bu if it's organic, you would.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
Where's your where's your Big Mac deodorant? I eat it?
Speaker 1 (25:00):
I bet I bet you there's a gandal you can
probably Oh yeah, big Mac Kendall, but big Mac Big
Mac scented deodorant.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
I bet you can get that. I bet you.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Gwyneth Paltrow's candle smells like.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
It exit out of Fresta exit swallowed down the Jason
Smithson with Mike Carbon live from the Tire rec dot
Com studios. Uh, look, I'm telling you, I'm telling but
I really wanted to get a big mac scented deodorant.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Point.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
I thought you were gonna say you were McDonald's.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
I just smell like food going all over the place.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
Look, the Bears have become the biggest tire fire in
the NFL. Yeah, congratulates.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
Yeah, no, no, We've been working hard at this for
a while. So so yeah, it's finally come to fruition.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Now why today, Because usually the Jets had a stranglehold
on that, like we are number one and no one
is taking this from us, And the Bears came up
and just took it out of the Jets cold dead hands.
Today they fired their offensive coordinator, Shane Waldron, whom nobody
seemed to like, and there's been reports that members of
the team went to Matt Eberfluse some members of the
(26:09):
front office and said, hey, we can't have Shane Walden
as our offense coordinator and and wait for it, because
this is where the tire fire gets really rolling and
Tyson Beagent should be the quarterback instead of Caleb?
Speaker 4 (26:26):
Why did they just name DJ Moore and be done with.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Right?
Speaker 1 (26:31):
I mean that they said, why didn't they just drop
the number two on the ground. They didn't say one person.
They didn't say one underappreciated, underfed wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
No, no, no, it was million dollars he was it
was unnamed.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Players said, we can't have Shane Walden as OC, and
you should put Caleb Williams on the bench and go
to Tyson Bagent. Tyson Bagen not like, not like Tebow
is the number two quarterback, not like there's a dude
back there that, hey maybe he'll play.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Well, you have a guy a.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
Hundred times the quarterback Tim timo Ever was yeah, that's.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
Not like you have a you know, a peak case keenum.
Not a case keenum. Hey, come on in to put
the car in the garage Kingdom, like a peak case
keenum or a peak backup quarterback, like a like a
Joe Flacco. Hey, we gotta go to flat. They're saying, dude,
Tyson Beagent should be the quarterback. Man, I mean that
he was pretty good in spots. That's but that's but again,
I get it for a guy that's got a resume
(27:29):
like Flacco or something, but no, no, this is how
bad things are. No, we want Caleb Williams to hit
the bench for Tyson Agent.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
Yeah, I mean, and look, pull back thirty thousand foot view.
I mean, here's one of my favorite quotes. Matt everflu
Is doing his weekly spot on The Score was on
with David Kaplan and he was having cell reception problems. Coach,
your cell phone is as bad as the offense right now. Yeah,
that was a pretty good line. And then I heard
a couple of players, a couple of defense defensive players
(28:00):
today being asked point and blank about coaching stuff. And boy,
their back pedaling was as strong or maybe even better
than their technique on the field. Look, Caleb Williams is
doing a lot of scramble drills. The offensive line is deplorable.
But I told you that coming into the year, that
you bought a bunch of stuff to put in a
(28:21):
ramshackle house, Right this is I went and spent millions
on artwork. Yeah, what's the house look like. It's like, well,
probably need some paint. There's some nails sticking out of
the floorboards. All of those things. But you know what,
people are gonna the eyes are gonna be drawn to
the walls because we got some really nice art pieces
out here, and now we have the quarterback that's gonna
(28:42):
make everything pretty well. It's all off schedule, it's all problematic,
it's all standing. He misses some obvious reads, obvious throws.
He's regressed. The offense has been bad. And for Tyson Bagent, yeah,
I think they're looking for simplicity, a guy that's gonna
play and throw on schedule and maybe simplify things, And
(29:03):
that's that's part of the problem, right And Waldron coming
in it's no surprise is the latest in a long history.
I mean, you have got the number of play callers
in the last decade is what we're up to.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
Ten.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
They don't stay very long, and they're terrible. It's like
spinal tap drummers. Now, they don't last. They spontaneously combusted.
But it goes back to.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
Bringing bringing Eberflus back to begin with, which was problematic.
Told you it was gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Everybody. They're not.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
They're gonna fire him in the offic none paramount, No, No, they.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Weren't because they're the Bears and this is what they do.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
And now you've got a guy who was fired by
the Panthers, who once upon a time met Sean McVay.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Can I be the offensive corner you met Sean McVay. Yes,
you can come do this all right. Now, Look, I'll
tell you exactly what the short gain is going to beat.
Then we'll get to what's trending, because what does this
mean now? In the short term, this is what's going
to happen. There will be a bit of influx of energy,
new energy in the play calling, and they will find
a way to get DJ will involved from the jump.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
I would I don't know. Can I bet that.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
The first play of the game on Sunday is going
to be a wide receiver screen to DJ Moore, something
to get him the ball in the very first play
of the game, to get him involved. He's there, still
their best receiver, however morose he may be right now,
but that's going to be the biggest thing. Same thing
with the Jets when it was we gotta get Garrett
Wilson going, and boom. Garrett Wilson's been great since they
said we got to get him the ball early. But
(30:25):
that's exactly what's going to happen. DJ Moore is going
to be a focal point of the offense because they've
gotten way away from it. And look what happens You
get away from your best receiver and you can't score
more than a few.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
Yeah, but let me ask what's gonna happen twenty three
straight drives? But the Jets and the Patriots defensively have
one thing truly in common.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (30:44):
One thing? One thing in common thing?
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Boy, I don't know what is it.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
Neither one of them can stop to run with anything,
So what do you do? Let's throw When we've shuffled
up our offensive linemen, so where we've randomly assigned them positions,
you're supposed to say they changed it.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Why that was that?
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Everybody's waiting for you to say they stink.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
It's a fun line you're supposed to say.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
You're supposed to say they stink. Instead, you say neither
of them can stop the roads.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
No, you just say they still Okay, they stink. Let's
find out what's trending right now in the wide world.
You smell like big Max sauce. Are you saying that
to Isaac Lohan? Kronde him Harmon saying you smell like
spelling and cheese.
Speaker 6 (31:24):
I take it as a great compliment, Hi, compared to
a lot of the other things I've been compared to
over the years.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Fellas what's trending?
Speaker 6 (31:34):
The stunning drama of the opening night of the NBA
Cup as the Detroit Pistons took on the Miami Heat,
they battled into overtime. The Heat led by one point
with one point eight left n ot with Detroit inbounding.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
Here are Eric Reid and John Crotty on Heat TV.
So Cunningham, nobody's guarding him and it comes during ducks it,
oh mine, unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
In seven tenths of a second, they tied the game
in one twenty one.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
The Pistons, you're walking off the court. Oh full timeout.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
Oh no, the referee is saying that Coach Spoe is
called a timeout and that's a technical foul.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
As the heater out of timeouts.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
Oh boy, oh boy, is right.
Speaker 6 (32:22):
The Pistons Malik Beasley then proceeded to hit the game
winning free throw. Again Eric Spolster, who my mom thinks
is hot calling a timeout the Heat out of timeouts,
leading to the game winning technical foul for Detroit. They
win it one twenty three to one twenty one. Atlanta
a winner at Boston one seventeen to one sixteen own
Yeka Okonku the game winning put back with six seconds left.
(32:45):
Jalen Brown scored thirty seven for Boston to miss a
thirteen footer at the buzzer. The Nicks one at Philadelphia
what eleven to ninety nine by a Josh Hart triple double.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Right now.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
In the return of Klay Thompson to Golden State, the
Warriors lead Thompson's Dallas Mavericks twenty six to twenty with
two to twenty five left in the first quarter. In
five minutes, Thompson missed both of his field goal attempts
made to from the line. The new college football playoff
rankings were released on Tuesday evening. Oregon remains number one,
followed by Ohio State, Texas, Penn State. Then you have
(33:18):
Indiana at number five and BYU at number six. Oh,
hang on, guys, I'm getting a text message here.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Oh it's from my mom.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Mom.
Speaker 6 (33:27):
Her text quote losing track of timeouts is not hot.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Back to you, guys.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Wow, I was waiting for you to say he can
forget about how many timeouts he has left with me anytime?
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Hey, that's what mom you're talking about.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
I love the Jason Smith Show. Is my best friend
Mike carbon coming up next? Dear cop that Hey, how's
that hot Eric Spolster doing well? Let me tell you
Let me tell you up next. There's something that's a
new concern for the best team in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (34:07):
We'll tell you next right here, Jason and Mike Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 1 (34:19):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
live from the Tirack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
Take off your uniform.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
We'll get to a big.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
NFL story, big injury NFL story coming up in a
few minutes. But this broke yesterday was a bit of
a day long. Let's give the Lions their flowers for
how good they are coming back and winning a game
where they played horribly against the Texans. And look, okay,
we've done that. We told you how good the Lions
are for a long time. They're the best team in
(34:48):
the NFL and I told you my two biggest fears
for the Lions were peaking too early. That's the only thing.
And and and that I was like, Okay, well, obviously
didn't peak last week and they still won a game,
So okay, speaking too early. But my new biggest fear
is that they're gonna go cambeling at the wrong time.
(35:09):
I mean, they're gonna go cambambling campbeling at the wrong time.
Dan Campbell made a horrible decision at the end of
that game to settle for a fifty two yard field goal. Right,
nobody does that. You have you've been red hot offensively,
you have a time out, you have time, it's third down.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Try to get a little bit closer fifty. As much
as good.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
As the kickers are, fifty two yard field goals, you
don't settle for him. You could get a little bit closer.
You can make it a forty yard field goal. You
can make it for and that is a much better
field goal to try to make. But instead Dan Campbell says, no,
I'm okay settling for a fifty two yarder.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Now.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
The Lions have been rolling sevens all season, and he
just whispers it in into the upright the exact opposite
of his previous field goal, which was all the way
on the right hand side, and the Lions win. Right,
you're when you're hot, you're hot. When you're rolling, you're rolling.
But those decisions don't always go your way.
Speaker 4 (36:06):
Now, I know you want didn't want Jared Goff to
perhaps put the ball in harms. Hey can always guard
your way because it's third and seven, right, But that
was the first time they called like that was only
their second time out that they used at that point.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
Yeah, you can get.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
You had a time out to try to get closer,
and if you don't get closer, you don't and you
kick Fitt to yarder. But settling for it. These are
decisions that will kill you in the playoffs. And it's
funny because you're normally aggressive. Of all right, we need
to get the yardage.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
We need to make the easier, easier play, Like that's
your whole thing, is right, I'm gonna play the percentages, uh,
and do what's going to make the highest probability. You
had forty eight seconds and allowed it to tick down
to where you have the Montgomery run and then you
take your second time out with four seconds run me.
(36:53):
So you leave one, you take one off in the.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
Holster and that and that's the thing is that when
you are too much of a gambler. Yeah, that this
is why people don't gamble, because the odds are always
in the house's favor. Right, agree or disagree with the
fourth down calls in the NFC Championship game last year
where they went for it a couple of times a
change willmentum help give the game to the San Francisco
forty nine ers.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Agree or disagree with going for it?
Speaker 1 (37:16):
I think there's no way you do that because it's
different in the NFC title game that it is during
the season.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
You think you can still go for it. I do.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
It's still a risk. It's still a risk you didn't
have to take. And when you take a bunch of risks,
you're not gonna get them, all right. And and that's
my that's.
Speaker 4 (37:30):
How tell Dave Roberts that is he does the blank
You's right.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
That's my thing for.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
The Lions is that eventually he likes to be risky,
and that's gonna come back and bite you, and you're
going to lose. And clearly Campbell hasn't learned his lesson
from last year. Because he's still yeah, this is this is.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
What we do with what we're doing this to you
are And it missed the steel goal.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
I mean that it was.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
It was a field goal that barely went, and it went.
I'm not saying it didn't and you won the game.
But decisions like this, you know, you don't always roll sevens.
Eventually you roll, you roll snake eyes, you roll box cards.
You're not supposed to this. This is how it goes
in the NFL. When you gamble too much, you gamble
at the wrong time, and that's when it comes out
to be something that, my goodness, have we just not
(38:11):
made that stupid gamble, we'd be in the super Bowl, right,
Have we just not gone for it all the time
on fourth down against the forty nine ers and thrown
to our number four wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
We're in the super Bowl. But something like this where we're.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Gonna settle for a fifty two yarder, if that goes
to the playoffs, that doesn't happen, you lose. Guess what,
Dan Campbell, that's your fault because that was a correctable
mistake that you could have not done. This is not
something where oh hey, it was a split second decision
and we could have gone one way or the other. No,
everybody tries to get closer. When it's a fifty two
yard field goal, you decide we're gonna do it because
(38:43):
I have confidence that. It's great to have confidence in
your team, but there's also asking them to do a
little bit too much and that was a big risk.
It worked out for you, But that's the thing is
that my fears later.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
On when you really need something like this and you
take that big risk and as a result, you open
the door for the other team to win.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
That's my fear for the Lions.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
Yeah, but you're also trying to slam the door on
their their head, which is what he did last year.
And it's all about the excellence of execution. Execute the play.
You're a genius. It doesn't work, you're an idiot. Why
are you taking the unnecessary risk? You jerk that that
is what we do. And then Dan Campbell has to
move again.
Speaker 1 (39:24):
Well, you would have to move anyway. Oh, you definitely
would have to move if that happened. You definitely have to.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
But for this game, I mean the other side of
it is we can we talk about Houston and something
I've been saying for a long time, and it ain't
all just Hey, the receivers aren't there. They got problems, man,
they got problems.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
So you know that that's the game where the quarterback
through five interceptions, you got issues your offensive lines of turnstyle.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Usually the only one worse is the Bears. Right, here's
the only the.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Jets lose again, you know the last time the team
lost with the opponent's close a quarterback through five interceptions,
you had a twenty play gotta go back to the Jets,
like that's the only thing though, that's really kind of
where you're Jets. But yes, it's a h Certainly the
risk reward is there normally your bludgeting teams.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
So this is the first time.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
It's really weird to tad you know, isn't it marked
by words?
Speaker 3 (40:08):
Cambeling is going to.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
Kill the Lion. I do like the term cambling, though.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
Just wait exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome
coming up next to a huge injury update in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Keep it right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio
