(00:50):
an exciting Tuesday night, Smith, it is. It's opening night.
Benbit come, it's guy, it is. It is a big night.
We have the in season NBA Cup tw ornament. You
know when you see the floors that look really weird,
you know it's NBA Cup Day.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I did see the one for Philly that making the
rounds was the joke that it was like the the
neon light chaos in the Kenny Rodgers Roasters episode of
Seinfeld from way back in the day.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Oh yeah, okay, a little bit sure sure.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Instead of the red glow, it's that funky blue.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
I kind of like the blook kind of felt like, hey,
they're playing in the ocean ride. The waves were in
canoes and we were battling over we're making a shot
which would mean splash.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
So before Darrell Hannah and Tom Hanks, the late great
John Candy.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
What's your name? My name is it? So before we
get to that big injury story in the NFL. Quick
update from the game of the night in the NBA
Mavericks and the Warriors. Dallas leads at forty eight to
forty one midway through the second quarter. This is big, obviously,
the comeback of Klay Thompson playing in his first game
with Golden States and signing with Dallas in the offseason.
(02:06):
He missed his first two shots, you know, but you
know it's an emotional night for him. He does have
eleven so far. The welcome for him where they lined
the inside of the arena as he was coming back,
and you could tell that right away. It was a
big deal for him. Getting the heroes, welcome and of
course he's going to come on the guy. You know,
when you win as often as they did and you're
(02:27):
one of the Splash brothers, Yeah, they're gonna love you forever.
It was it was fun to see that welcome back
for him, and I want one of those captain hats
come on. Yeah, And clearly, if you're Klay Thompson, you
really want to have a big night, not just because
I want to show my old team. They didn't want
to give me a lot of money. They kind of
pushed me out. I wanted to go to Dallas, but
(02:48):
you really want to do it because in the back
of your mind it's, hey, they're pretty good without me
this year. Hang on, they got God playing more minutes
that are Wait, they're eight and two making shots. Steve
Kerr is playing like thirteen guys in a rotation, and
(03:11):
and and they're winning, and they look really good and
they don't seem like they miss me. I really want
to have a good game tonight, guys. Wait, we're five hundred.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
To One of the notes coming out was the both
Steph and Draymond have already hit three pointers over him.
Draymond got hit in the uh, the nether region. So
a lot of memes about potential NBA players who would
be celebrating such a moment with little images like their
amount rushmore players, which is pretty funny. But yeah, all
(03:50):
in Golden State, five of eighteen from three point range
down five. As as we're watching this and you know
it's entertaining back and forth game and some thing with
some gravitas on night one of this year tournament.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
I still feel good because we were in the finals
last year. No, no, no, we were in the finals
last year. You were not in the finals. You're supposed
to be the guy to get us over the hub
and get us to the finals and win. Instead we're
five hundred with you. Maybe you're the problem, Klay Thompson.
Maybe it's you and I'm pretending to be like Luca
(04:23):
at that point. Okay, maybe you're the problem what you're doing.
Maybe I'll take a beer out of your hand celebrating
in the locker room after we got a big winn.
He look, man, it.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Still went downhill. That was the moment, very critical moment
of you can't do that. But yeah, to this point
he is, he's shooting, yeah, thirty five percent from three
point range thus far this year.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Postgame questions for thirteen to twenty postgame fourty is Jason
in the front, Yeah, Clay, Hey, Jason Smith, Fox Sports Radio. Hey,
what's your reaction being in Dallas being five hundred where
your old team seems to be better off without you? Clay?
When you answer, I'm sorry, am I gonna kick? I'm
getting kicked out? Oh am? I supposed to just ask
(05:09):
you how you're getting up out here? At captain, I'm
getting kicked out. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Yeah, you know,
I do like the hat they're giving all, you know,
the hat from Caddy Shack. They get a hat like that,
get a free bowl of soup. No, it's kind of
like the hat the Ted Nightwares when he's when he's
running the Flying Wall.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Or your Meryl Stouming on the Love Boat. Whatever takes
you through. But yes, already h eleven players have hit
the floor for Golden State in this one. So keeping
up with that theme and trying to show Klay Thompson,
you know what.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
We're better off without you? Man, Look at us. I
can run out all these young guys. They can get
up and down the court and defend like you used
to remember when he used to be able to defend like.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
That, like the drunkards plea at last.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Really good without me. Maybe the was the right move.
So again, we'll have you updated on this game. He's
plus eight. Uh, that's great, his plus eight. The Mavericks
are winning. No, I mean he really wants to have
a big game tonight because boy, you go you go
win And they go, yeah, hey, thanks for visiting. Really
but uh, yeah, we've moved past you now. Yeah. Yeah.
(06:17):
It's like the it's like the uh, the relationship that
you know that that two people have and then one
person goes away to school and comes back and is
very excited to be with their boyfriend or girlfriend and
they realize, oh and hey, in these last few months,
I've I've moved past you man. Yeah we can have
fun here. Well you're back on visiting for Thanksgiving. But yeah,
Sunday night before you go back to school, we're gonna
(06:39):
have a conversation and that's some other stuff going on.
That's it. Yeah, that's kind of what. Hey, great times,
we had great times. I'll always love you. We had
we had great we had great times. Remember we went
to Seaside. Junior year and it was so awesome. Man.
We went down to the lake the night of the prom.
Oh it's great.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Is where we start playing baby come back again.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Remember when we covered up that murder of that person.
We like, whoa, you're still trying to get past your
admission of stealing that mailbox. Now you're admitting to murder.
I'm reading a book where that's I'm reading a novel
where that's that where a bunch of teenagers are covering
up Oh I've killed somebody. Yeah, it's it's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
I can't I can't wait to read it. Let me
know when you're done. But you know, it is very
much that the four hundred people there. I'm waiting for
the Challenger and Christmas survey that comes out you like
they do every year at the the NCAA tournament or
or any big event where it's like, yeah, here's all
the productivity hours lost. I mean there were like four
hundred people standing in lining. How many hours of lost
(07:41):
productivity waiting around for Klay Thompson to show up and
wave at him with their little hats.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
So again, we'll love more NBA on the way. But
big story out of the NFL. It looks something that
we thought was gonna Look, we told you about this
for the last I don't know how many days in
a row. It was as soon as Dak Prescott hurt
his hamstring, you knew we told you it is. He
really gonna play again the rest of the season. He's not.
When you talk about the severity of the injury, combined
with the fact that it's a bad season for the
(08:07):
Cowboys's not gonna come back in week thirteen or week fourteen,
and the Cowboys shut that drama down now announcing that
he's going to be out for the rest of the season.
Jerry Jones, though, saying, hey, his recovery procede jury's gonna
go through, leaves him in a really good place. Right,
He's gonna be great for next year. Averon's fine, but
he's out for the rest of this year. So okay,
(08:27):
So look the headlines, Cowboys, Jerry Jones now searching. Obviously,
go to Trey Lance. That's the first thing. What else
are you doing? You're not doing anything by playing Cooper Rush.
See if you have anything in the guy. You gave
him a series last week. It's gonna look rough, but
it doesn't matter Your season's over, anyway, go to the
guy you brought in and see if you actually have
(08:47):
something there, and that might be something that helps you
for next year. Because now with a really bad injury
for Dak Prescott, how is he gonna come back? It's
always great to have an asset of quarterback you can
turn into a draft pick, play trade lance. It would
be stupid not to. But I got a bit of
a darker side for the Cowboys. Okay, just think about
this for a second, all right.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
I mean, look, Jerry Jones does have some Palpatine in him.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Oh it is a little bit, yes, yes, absolute power.
You don't think he's cloned himself. Come on, your overconfidence
is your weakness. Your faith in Cooper rushes yours. Wait,
he's my quarterback, that's that's the My faith in him
is my down. I don't have a down. The lance
Stephen Kewup returned the Jedi to the end right before
(09:34):
the lightning comes out of his fingers. Because I've tried that,
tried that. You know, you can't just do that like
I've tried that for like twenty years. I paid a
lot of money. Try to get lightning come out of
my fingers. And uh just can't do it. It won't
do it. I mean sometimes a little bit of a spark,
but uh boy, it was a it's about ten million
dollars down a drain right there.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Close as I got one was when I dressed up
like the guy from the running mate I had I had.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
I had a guy coming in and said he was
a he was a lightning from the fingers, whispered promise me,
guaranteed me, made me, paid him up front and cash
in advance. And then after it didn't happen, can't find him,
don't know where he is now, so can't get the
Latin out of the fingers. So that's a that's a thing.
But you want a dark side. Dak Prescott has had
a pretty good career and he's had a lot of
(10:18):
big seasons over thirty touchdowns. He has always produced. Dak
Prescott was about getting paid his entire career. The last
couple of years has been I want to get paid
and stay the quarterback here in Dallas. Dak Prescott got
paid right before the season started. And what has he
(10:39):
done injury aside? He has put up not one of
not among the he put up the worst year as
a starting quarterback he has had in the NFL. Where
he finished is his worst year. If you want to
extrapolate that and say, okay, halfway through the season, what
(10:59):
it would be if you go out to sixteen or
seventeen games, this would be the worst season that Dak
Prescott has had in the NFL. So I posit this
to you, Mike Carmen, because this is now. The big
question is was it just Dak Prescott bad preparation, because Hey,
(11:19):
I'm kind of split because I thought I was getting
paid but I'm not. And it happens. Some guys get distracted,
you don't put in the work in the offseason you
normally do. This still should be an offense that put
points up. Even if they can't run the football, they
still should have been able to do that. But he didn't.
So was this a bad preparation, bad year? Or is
this Dak Prescott? I got paid. I'm not getting that
kind of money again. I'm done. That's a big question
(11:43):
because why this year? Why this year is his worst year.
He's had worse teams and he's put up numbers. He's
had better teams, he's put up great numbers, but this
year he gets paid, and all of a sudden, he
Ezekiel Elliott's his way. Oh I got paid, Now I'm done.
Chris Johnson running between the tackles and falling down. Ezekiel
(12:03):
Elli got paid. He was never the same guy. Dak
Prescott gets paid, and up until his injury, he was
not nearly the same guy. So that's the biggest dark side.
The biggest question is was this an aberration for Dak
or is this I got paid? It's the last big
contract I'm gonna get, and I'm done, and I'm just
gonna kind of this is who you're good. This is
(12:23):
the version of me you're gonna get from now on.
That is a dark side for the guy. Is a
very dark side.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
And now we get into the reasons, excuses and trying
to parse out where reality is right when you talk
about you've got no running game. Tony Pollard wasn't a
world beater, but as a runner and receiver, he's light
years ahead of the trio that they had. You could
voltron these three guys and not come up with the
stats that Tony Pollard did.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Here, you can put all.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Three of these guys and we could stack their asses together.
Sure you ain't doing what Tony Pollard did, and that
wasn't even the greatest, right, he was just over one
thousand yards but a decent receiver out of the backfield.
All that to say, like Zeke Elliott can't fall forward, right,
We've watched it time again. Ric O'Donnell has one flash
every thirty five touches. That ain't getting done receiving corps.
(13:12):
You got a guy that's not bad, but he's been
banged up.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
He got CD right when he got not blinded by
the light.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
DJ up Like which do you like the Manford man
or at the Springsteen or secret option ce no, no.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
No, to be covered a lot. The one that everybody
knows is Manfred Man blinded by in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
But going all through that and then your defense is
a disaster, which normally allows you to put up points,
but you don't have the offensive weaponry or the time to.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Throw the ball. So I do agree to a degree,
there's too much distraction, too much noise. And this is
the byproduct of the the Jerry Jones world is that
he probably did have a lesser than run up to
the season with all the contract stuff. I gotta think
that you're still working your ass off because you're one
(14:07):
play from I don't know, having your leg fall apart.
So I'm telling you, man, that's the biggest of you.
You think everything is great, But is this now the
doc we're gonna get? I got paid, and now this
is the version of me that you're which is not
nearly gonna be enough and you're stuck. No, I think
we also go back to your original premise of Trey Lance.
(14:28):
See what you have not a heavy investment in him,
and your team stinks right loss loss four in a row.
You're middling of the pack in terms of the strength
of schedule remaining. And right now you have the number
eleven pick in the twenty twenty five draft. This is where, hey,
if it's gonna go fully off the rails as well,
See what kind of lottery balls you get together? If
(14:50):
I get the latting out of my fingers, I get
the lottery balls going away. Get notes. Can't do that?
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Make them dance.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Let Express Employment Professionals help hire your next pro forget
about posting jobs, sift through resumes, interviews with unqualified applicants,
move up to the pros. Go to expresspros dot com
to find the location near you. That is expresspros dot Com.
So get ready if that's that, destly Cowboys fans are going,
oh great, never thought about that, but you just.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Now.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
I'm gonna spend the next eight months thinking is have
we seen the best of Dak and now he's peaked
and this is what we're paying him for? Is gonna
be this guy? Look ah yeah, no, it's not good
for anybody. And it's true.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
And you just synced up Dark Side of the Moon
with some kind of weird twisted we are the Cowboys
on the.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Third roar of the Lions is when you start playing
the Cowboys theme song. Uh, coming up next? You want
a great job of trolling from the NFL today, We
got out of mean NFL today that the TV.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
NFL today, You cross is coming back to tell.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
You Musburger, sure, everybody, Philip George, Yes, and but coming
up next, Yes, the best example of trolling from today
in the NFL. That's next, Jason and Mike Fox. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
(16:08):
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Fox
Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. I don't know if it's good news or
bad news for the Lakers, but Rob Polinka is at
(16:29):
Duke Kentucky scouting this game, maybe expecting that, Hey, listen,
we're gonna be picking really high this year. And I
got to see Cooper flag play at least once in
person before we draft him number one overall.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
I gotta see him once. Well, I mean, it's a
good headline for a Tuesday, isn't it? Look at it
our codeor doesn't he burns the midnight oil. He's always
working to be better, and what better way to get
people to stop talking about his love infatuation whatever nonsense.
They've spoken with Brownie James and to say, see he's he's.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Scouting a real player there. I'm scotting guys who are
actually on the floor in college basketball. That's what I'm doing.
So again, it's a big game right now Duke Kentucky.
It's tied seventy two apiece late in the second half
of more and that's coming up in a few minutes.
Isaac Lowencron, We'll have all the details. But yeah, you know,
the more time goes on, it's you know, a Flag
(17:23):
is a guy you watch him play and you go, man,
he sees the court incredible, some of the passes. He
made a no look pass on a break the other
day where he froze a defender and threw it ahead
of him and hit somebody in stride. Like, Okay, you
know this is this is one of those years where hey,
we may be able to make no if you tank
and you can get him. Okay, you take and get him, go,
(17:44):
go go.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
I'm gonna use. We talked about this guy a lot
last night, right, we watched the Monday night football game
and the inefficiencies and problems going on with Matthew Stafford.
But Matthew Stafford was the guy that was always sighted
by former quarterbacks and his contemporaries. Is the guy that
all right in between staring at my little notepad or
(18:05):
old printouts or whatever wherever you are in that timeline,
it was if Matthew Stafford was on the field, I
wanted to watch the Lions possession. I want to watch
the Rams possession. How many times did you hear that
this summer from people that were playing in pickup games
with Cooper Flag of NBA players past and present. That
is just like, yeah, this kid, this kid gets it. Yeah,
(18:27):
this kid gets it right. All the coach is believable. Yes,
So to watch it start to translate for this year, Yeah,
the race is on.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
Except let me just tell you a couple of things
that have happened that, oh boy, not good for Cooper Flag.
The game was tied at seventy two. Apiece of course.
Flag is going to get the ball with Duke with
a chance to go ahead in the final seconds, except
he dribbles himself into a turnover. Kentucky gets the ball,
they hit a couple of free throws. They're up seventy four,
(18:56):
seventy two. Okay, let's give the ball back to Flag,
who's got twenty six and twelve tonight. And he just
dribbles into trouble. And there's a discrepancy as to whether
or not he turned it over. All the ball was
out of bounds off of Kentucky. He lost the handle twice.
He stepped out, but he may have come back in.
They are looking at it on replay, and I'll tell
(19:19):
you it looks like his right hand is on the line.
This is gonna be two turnovers for Cooper Flag. In
the final twenty seconds of a game that he was dominating.
Uh and Kentucky's gonna wind up winning this game because
of it. So as great a game as he has played. Wow,
these two these are being two really bad turnovers at
(19:40):
the end of regas.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
I don't tell you driving to the corner like that,
woof you think it like four guys are gonna collapse.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
On you and throw it over. It looked like he
lost his he lost his balance trying to go in
on that last one. And I don't know if he
was gonna try to go baseline. Looked like he was
trying to get into go baseline, but he lost his
balance and looked like he was gonna lose the ball.
He actually puts his left hand out of bounds first
trying to corral the ball. Then he gets it. Then
he puts his right hand.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Out of pass and he grabbed odd sequencing body positioning.
But I mean, good job by the defender. He wouldn't
give him that baseline. It's like the line is going
to be another defender. You are not going that way.
You're cutting back to the middle and into traffic if
you're getting past me. By the way he carried the
ball twice getting down.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
He dribbled into trouble twice, and it wasn't like they
threw multiple defenders at him. He just ran into defenders
who didn't give him any room whatsoever, and result in
the turn. He tried a little shaken bake to try
to get by and it was great defensive play by Kentucky.
Number nineteen. Kentucky's gonna move up. All I have to
(20:43):
do is figure out to navigate the last five seconds
of this one up seventy four to seventy two. Frotfurt,
you got a hot take on this one. Yeah, what's
today's date, Jason? Today is a hang on. It is November,
November twelve. I think both of these teams are going
to make tournament.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Uh No, they're gonna be a three loss team and
they're gonna get left out and then people are gonna
be mad.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Boise State's gonna make it over du because they're gonna
lose it again. So if you're a Cooper Flag, you're
an NBA team is like, hey, this is great boy,
I really want to watch your whole game. How about
you just watch the first thirty nine minutes and thirty second.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
We saw the last highlight you sent us on this
reel was with about a minute and a half left.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Hey, well how did that came in?
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (21:25):
How come we didn't get the last thirty seconds this game?
Oh you didn't? I should be on there. I don't
understan what thet? I don't know why we didn't have
a backup bat? Who should have the Wi Fi signa tu?
Aren't we supposed to be hating Cooper? The ruling was
out of bounds. Kentucky keeps the ball, they will be
going to the free throw line and they can pretty
(21:45):
much clinch it with two free throws again a two
point lead for the Wildcats. Yes, Justin does bring up
an interesting philosophical point of where we're at in this
year end of twenty twenty four in terms of hate
watching team teams, flagship teams, and him specifically, Why do
we have to hate him? We're supposed to be hating
(22:07):
Duke's best player.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
But that but that's the thing, right, do we still
have that same animus that we had all those years ago?
Half the years of ineptitude in like twenty years, But
that's it. They've become irrelevant in that regard, Like ever
since woes was slapping the floor right Wojo Back in
the day, he was hat okay, and Christian had a
nice NBA career and everybody's Duke fan.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
I'll tell you what. I'll tell you why because Cooper
flag is still too new and it's still fun to
see him do stuff before you can. We can hate
him in the tournament. We'll hate Duke and him time. Yes,
that's in March. We got to start it now. No,
you have to be We could be at the base
of that that bandwagona we can build it now. You
have people to marvel at what he's got. No coming. Yeah,
(22:57):
he's got no clutch game, Geene, in a a game
in a national audience on this the first night of
the NBA Cup, he failed.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
There you go. I mean, I give you what you needed,
more cotton, Brent, Do you want me to get a
little foaming at the more Listen.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
I understand that. And there's plenty of time. Coach K
is not there anymore, and Duke is well. Look when
Coach K left, it got a little bit harder to
hate Duke, you know it, really it got it got
a little harder's face.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
But I mean, but he doesn't sermonize to me the
way coach came.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
But you do want to punch him in the face.
Who has the most punishable face outside of Collin Jos?
Uh No? Look eight seven seven, it will be time
to hate him. You need to appreciate him before you
because if you hate him right away, it just seems
so this is the Warriors. It's like you. It's like you.
(23:48):
You what do you mean? Like me? You hate stuff
right away without having any frame of reference, just because
you want to hate stuff. You need to be how
dare you? You did you did that? Dare you tonight?
You hated stuff tonight for no reasons and I hadn't
been thinking about it for a long time.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
I want to hate you make it sound like it's
a snap reaction.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
No, no, no, no, I'm calm, cool when measured. What the
hell are you talking about? I want to hate stuff.
I'm gonna hate It's okay, I'm Joe positivity over. You
need time, the sunshine and rainbow. You need to grow
an appreciation or a respect for someone before you just
hate them. So it's like the Warriors had that eighteen months. Oh,
they're changing basketball. Look how cool it is now? The
(24:26):
NBA sucks, don't they won't lose. No, I don't like
it now. I don't like it now. Now I don't
like it. I don't like it at all. I don't
like it all.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
It isn't bad like. But we were on board about
five years ago that the NFL was starting to hit,
uh you know, a nexus. Yeah, and in terms of
watchability and a quarterback play all that stuff.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
If you appreciate him now, it's gonna be a lot
harder for you to hate him later. Ah No, he
could turn it off. He's gonna start it. I ran
out of the gate. I don't think so, man, because
you know, well, here's the other thing is that he
just had another awful play with Kentucky having a seventy
being too nice to eat. I gotta explain what happened
(25:05):
Frostburg with a This is after two turnovers that's given
Kentucky the lead seventy five seventy two, five seconds left
to go. Kentucky misses the second free throw and Cooper
Flagg gets out rebounded for the ball. One on one
gets out rebounded for the ball, Kentucky gets it again.
(25:25):
They go back to the free throw line, then make
another free throw. It is over. It's tough. You know
it's tough, but wow, he killed them in the last
thirty seconds of this game. Two turnovers, an unable to
corral rebound one on one when it's it, it's right there,
I gotta grab it. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Due Duke was a five and a half point favorite.
The over under was one fifty nine and a half,
so it really sailed under. No threat whatsoever there, but
they just flashed the graphic as we get into the
hug line. That's the first Kentucky went over Duke since
twenty fifteen.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
You say that's a first one note, Well, no, God
forgot they didn't win the Latner game. Okay, first ever
win Overdue. Congratulations.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Now we still have some of those coming up. Boys,
we get to the playoffs in Boise State, running.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Rough, shutting. No, we got more coming up in ninety seconds. Yeah,
the Cooper flag postgame recap is is gonna be a
little bit different than it was about eight minutes ago.
Right now, let's find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. From Isaac Lohencrown, I love what he got.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
NBA Cup is just captivating the nation right now, and
so is Klay Thompson's return to Golden State as Dallas
Mavericks lead the Warriors at halftime sixty three to fifty nine.
Thompson eleven points in seventeen minutes of the first half,
including three three pointers. Earlier in the NBA Cup, the
Miami Heat led the Detroit Pistons by one point with
(26:45):
one point eight left and overtime, Cade Cunningham through an
alley oop inbounds pass to Jalen Durham. And that's where
Eric Reid and John Crowdy picking up on Heat TV.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
So Cunningham nobody's guarding hymns in it comes during ducksh
it oh mine, unbelievable. In seven tenths of a second,
they tie the game in one twenty one. The Pistons,
you're walking off the court full timeout.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
Oh no, the referee is saying that Coach Poe is
called a time out and that's a technical powel as
the heater out of timeouts.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Oh boy, oh boy, is right.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
The Pistons Malik Beasley. Then it would prove to be
the game winning free throw, as the Pistons prevailed one
twenty three to one oh one twenty one. Let's listen
to the final call from the Pistons radio crew on
w x YT, and they seemed as surprise as anybody.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Yeah, there's a make one twenty three to one twenty one,
one tenth of a second. That's I have never seen
any office. This is the Pistons went one twenty three
to one twenty one in overtime and what away.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
To end the games?
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Yeah, we just did we just win the game anyway.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Heat actually had a six man on the court that
had sprint off right before the inn and bound turns.
That's the best he goes spritting like a bat out
of hell.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Brings back a memory.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
This is a true story.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
The first team that I have ever announced for are
freshman basketball team, which might have been the worst team
in the history of the sport, had six men on
the floor. Once got called for a technical foul. The
other team still scored on them. The Atlanta Hawks won
at bost true story. Once Atlanta Hawks won at Boston
one seventeen to one sixteen despite thirty seven by Jalen Brown,
(28:35):
a Josh Hart triple devil helped the Knicks win at
Philadelphia what eleven to ninety nine. Devin Booker scored thirty
one and Phoenix's one twenty to one twelve victory at
Utah College hoops. As you just heard, number nineteen, Kentucky
just knocking off sixth to rank Dukes seventy seven to
seventy two. Dukes Cooper flag twenty six points, twelve rebounds,
but committed two crucial turnovers in the final twelve seconds.
(28:55):
In the new college football playoff rankings, it's Oregon once
again number one, followed by Ohio State, Texas, Penn State, Indiana,
and BYU guys.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
Thank you appreciated. Ilo.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Look, the turnovers are one thing, you know, but to
get out rebounded when you can all you have to do.
It's a simple It's not like Kentucky came in and
overwhelmed him, like he just got out rebounded to get
the ball with five seconds left to go, and and
Kentucky's able to get it. This is a game that
was tied and Cooper Flagg handed them the game, handed
(29:28):
them the game with two unford and I say unforced
turnovers because because it was dribbling into into trouble just
one on one defenders. Wasn't like, hey, we closed out
with a defender and he got caught like he just
got he is he just got a situation where I'm
trying to shake and Bacon, I lose.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
The ball twice, giving up the ball because of a
double or something like you picked up your dribbler, Like, no,
he just lost his hand.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
I mean they hit five out of six free throws
in the last thirty seconds, specifically off of three things
Cooper Flagg did. Yeah, I mean, that's that's a stunningly
I had last thirty seconds.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Tell you what if you you bet duke, you did
not expect it to be on the money line. You
didn't expect it would be Cooper Flag was the guy
that know it cost you your wager. No, I mean
that it is just absolutely It'll still look good in
the box score, but look like you didn't. Watches are
getting wider and wider going.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Why did he go back into the corner? What did
he do? But I Am going to give you something big,
which is why you know you talk about Cooper Flag Frostburg,
about how it's easy to hate du Gie's a duke.
I want to need a little more angry. The one
thing that has been missing from college basketball the last
few years has been the presence of a superstar or superstars,
and we need that now. This is you know, college
(30:43):
basketball has become really regionalized, and you know college football
has the stars that come out. Even though college football
is regionalized, but now with the bigger playoff, it's become
more of a nationwide. People are interested in the SEC
with what's happening uh between Oregon and Michigan because of
the more playoff spots. But college basketball has needed a
star player for the last couple of years. They haven't
(31:05):
had the big superstar. We care about everything he does
since Zion and Zion was a really big deal right. Also,
Duke Cooper flag is going to be nothing but great
things for college even though it's bad and craptastic as
he played in the final thirty seconds to Night and
he costs in the game one. He is going to
be unbelievable for college basketball this year. He is going
(31:26):
to cut through the clutter with headlines and attention and
we will be hating Duke at some point. It's just
appreciating him for a little bit, but then the Duke
hate will be flowing through. And when you get into
January February and Duke is in there why we got
got it?
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Yeah, we gotta lead this now.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
You gotta you gotta be you gotta be appreciative of
the game he had. Then you gotta have originators. Then
you gotta absolutely come down on him for the last
thirty seconds because he costs him the game. But in
the end, he's going around the court on those plays
like he was the dark Knight. Dark Knight.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
I'm gonna staring at camera college basket right now. He's
gonna wear the black hat because he cost them this
game and cost him that high ranking, and it's his fault.
And so we need a villain, right as much as
you want a superstar, I give you the other side
of the coin. We need the joker running them up.
You're burning that pile of money. Hate something right away?
(32:19):
I want to hate it right away?
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Why? Okay, you're like my dad? What did I say?
I hated the villain? Herook for the villain. Yeah, we're
gonna go out for dinner. Well we're thinking it tight.
Oh I hate Italian. I don't want to go to Italian.
Oh okay, what most Italian? I don't know. I don't know.
I just don't want it. I don't save the money.
Why dad, Why why you want to hate stuff right
away and say to hey, yes, you know it right away.
(32:42):
It's a matter of building it up one hundred percent,
allowing him to be the super villain we need.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
You want to Dan Hurley, isn't that guy? He's a
coach I want to hate right away. Anyway, you gotta
celebrate the villainy. It's always good to let a guy
build up. And then, hey, you didn't hate Darth Vader
right away? You got scanned him, thought of something. It
was like, oh, Darth Vader.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Did you ever actually hate Darth Vada a little bit? Yeah,
in the beginning he did. Now you're the first one
and he cuts off Luke's hands. Sorry spot. He tells
him he's his dad. You don't know if that's really true.
You have to wait three years to find out if
that was really true. It's a pretty good line to
drop in the middle of a fight, though. Is he
really his dad? I don't know. We can't find out
because there's no such thing as the Internet. We'll have
to wait three years until return of the Jedi. Oh
(33:26):
that is true. Think about that. Coffee, Coffee clutch and
water cooler debates back in the early eighties. Jason, just
take the hel on this one. There's plenty of time
to hate Cooper's plenty of time. Time is now. Search

the end of Duke Kentucky huge game in college basketball.
(34:09):
Cooper flags and be carrying college basketball on his back
all season. But coming up next, we'll get into the
best element of trolling from the NFL you've seen in
quite a while. That's next, right here, Jason to Mike Fox.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

We'll have more on the ending of Duke Kentucky coming
up in a few minutes. Duke is a failure, They're
a fraud, and that ranking is a joke. Yeah, we're
doing more of that. It's November, man, I'm ready to
hate everything. But you want a great example of trolling,
(34:56):
there is next level trolling. And can already tell that
this head coach is kind of feeling comfortable where his
team is at because he is now really comfortable with
trolling his former players. So Mike Tomll and the Steelers
take on the Ravens this week, and already Tomlin was
giving Lamar Jackson his flowers a day ago when when
he was asked about the comparison of Jaden Daniels to
(35:18):
Lamar Jackson, he goes, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. This
guy's a multiple MVP winner. That's mister Jackson, right, like
mister aster Jackson. Okay, let's understand how good Lamar Jackson is, right,
which is kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Should they have started playing some Janet Jackson in the background.
Michael Jackson.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Sorry, Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
For real?
Speaker 1 (35:41):
So all right, all right, right, you know I don't
want any bulletin board stuff now with Lamar Jackson, I'm fine.
What about one of your former players who's playing for
the Ravens now, Oh, him, I don't care about because
Mike Tomlin's asked about Deontay Johnson, who was former Steelers
wide receiver. Unhappy gets Delta the Panthers and then gets
(36:03):
dealt back to the division to the Ravens, and he's
asked about Deontay Johnson and and you know what he's
seen from him so far, because he hasn't really made
a mark with the Ravens. And Mike Tomlin decides, yeah, no,
I'm gonna tell you exactly what I think about Deontay Johnson,
my former number one wide receiver, and where he is
right now with Baltimore.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
The artis which I hadn't thought a lot about it.
He's not on a lot of their video and so
you know, at this stage of the week, I don't
know that I've weighed, you know, what he might mean
to the matchup. They got more significant pieces with larger
roles that are occupying my attention at this part.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
He's not on a lot of tape for them.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
I mean, he did have two targets one catch for
six yards.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
And you know, honestly, in that game, I wonder, and
this is this sucks because I have in a couple
of fantasy leagues, is that there was a play when
Lamar Jackson threw to him right before the half where
Lamar Jackson scrambled got open. Deontay Johnson was open. It
was about a fifteen or twenty yard game and Johnson
just slipped and fell ye, and you see Lamar Jackson
put his arms up like what the hell man? He
(37:10):
did not see a target after that. So I wonder
if he is he is in the doghouse right now
and it's like, yeah, you know what, I tried to
throw it, you slipped and fell down. I can't trust
you yet, especially in the game that becomes a big shootout.
You think maybe perhaps as a as an explosive receiver,
you'd have an opportunity or two downfield. But I haven't seen.
I haven't seen. There's other players who I'm worried about
(37:33):
more that have made a bigger impact than Deontay Johnson.
He could have easily just said Hey, I wish him
all the best of luck. You know, he was terrific
while he was here. He's finding his way there. He's
going to be a dangerous player for them at some point.
But instead, No, no, no, he's not on a lot
of their video And there's other players who I am
much more concerned about than guys like Deontay Johnson. Next question, Yeah,
(37:54):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
Because what's great is he even go through the stuff
again with the annuals Jackson Bridge kind of the hey,
you know what, good luck. You know, mister Jackson, we
got we got something for you too. It's kind of
the the.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
Inference or how I read into it. Yeah, let's push Dan.
You know, Daniel still has room to grow. Jackson's obviously accomplished,
but more the uh you know, we are attentions on him,
right and for Deontay Johnson. Yeah, I mean that's the
nicest way to say. I'm not getting involved in any
talk pass guy, because think of the receivers that have
(38:32):
gone through. No, this is not I'm not getting into
this is just no. I'm telling you, I'm glad he's
gone and he stinks and I can talk about other
players because he stinks. He may as well have just
done my line of Hey, there's only one Johnson so far,
what's that coach? He stinks like? You may as well
have just said that because that's what he said, which
(38:52):
is which is not really true. But okay, if that's
how you feel and you need a hug coach, player,
you know, tell me, tell you I'm gonna say something
you're and you're not gonna You're gonna love it instead
of hating it right away, and you're gonna hundred percent
agree with me.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
When have I ever hated anything right away?
Speaker 1 (39:12):
Positive? The best biography or the best autobiography you will
ever read is if Mike Tomlin writes a book and
is truthful about all of his experiences while coaching the Steelers.
There is, there is, there will, There would never be.
(39:32):
It would be like the Andre Agassy Open, but for
football it would be unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Do you think his kid is ready to spill a
bunch of those secrets?
Speaker 1 (39:41):
I don't know. Autobiography biography like is written with with
Mike Tomlin and his son, but that would be the
I mean, that's that can one on writing that story
and getting to that is one sports book that instead
of just getting the highlights and then going no, no, no, no,
I would all.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
I want the tell I want the wide receivers. There's
been some defenders that have come through there now because
think of the great teams, there still were a lot
of characters.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Now, he's gotta be honest and he's got it. But
write it and don't put out any sort of teasers
with it.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
Just let people read it, man, Just let people read it. Yeah,
I'm in best book ever. Take my money. I'm first
in line for the autograph site.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome coming up
next and something from tonight in the NBA. You gotta
hear it to believe it. This is Fox Sports Radio.
