happened between the Pistons and the Heat. I don't know
the last time the Pistons have been the top story

Why are the Pistons and the Heat the number one

are five and seven, and with the first night of
the NBA Cup, let's go like, suddenly, this is a
you know, the Eminence Cup is not a put on

So the Heat and the Pistons in this game, I mean,

All right, well it looks like we're going to be
over again. Sure, except a very very frustrated Eric Spolstra
decided I am done coaching in this game because he
does something that he shouldn't have done and the Heat

go down because of it. So Cunningham nobody's guarding him.

Oh mine, unbelievable. In seven tenths of a second, they
tie the game in one twenty one.

The Pistols are walking off the court. Call timeout.

Oh no, but referee is saying that coach Spoe is
called a timeout and that's a technical foul as the
heater out of timeouts.

Oh boy, oh boy is right? Heat Radio Network on
the call. I can just say myself, going, oh boy

is frustrated, calls a timeout. Did not like the play.
They're not like the way that play went. It was

go in the game. They tie the game. He's frustrated,

Beasley makes both free throws and the Pistons win. It
won twenty three to one. One. Now, when I tell you,
if you said to me, okay, Jason Tonight, an NBA
head coach is gonna call time out when they don't
have any at the end of the game, I would say, okay,
are the Lakers Pike No, I would say okay. Of

the list, the absolute last guy who will do that,
the absolute last guy who will do that is Eric Spolster.
He's the last. He is the last guy. I would
put him so far to b He's not. He's not
going to do it. And yet, for the second time
in the last five minutes, I say, yet, here we are.

But I would put Spolster ahead, like I could see
Doc doing it before I could see Spolster doing it.

is out, and I will tell you two big things
now coming off this poll. First of all, Oregon's number one,
no real surprise, Ohio State number two, Texas is third,

Penn State is fourth, showing you that loss last week
meant absolutely nothing, and Indiana is number five. Go Hoosiers. Now,
obviously there's going to be the way the top twelve
poll is. You know, it's gonna be different when you
get to the end because there's different scenarios that go
into it, such as the top five division winners or

(11:09):
the top five conference winners all get in. The top
four are the top four seeds. So it's gonna look
a little bit different than how it is. It's kind
of like the NCAA turn when you say, well, here's
your top twenty five. How is a team who was
twelfth a two seed. Well that's that's how it goes.
It goes differently now, There's two big things that I'll
tell you right now, just with this latest poll, which
team are going to decide number one? No, no, no, no, no.

(11:31):
Number one. I'll tell you this is that. The one
conversation I'm not going to have any patients for is, oh,
why are we seeded so low? We should be a
higher seed. We should be here. You get in the playoff,
don't bleep and complain, nobody, don't complain. Don't complain about
your seed. Don't complain. You should be hired. Nobody should
be here. We should be this. That's why they have

a whole top four seeds. You win your conference, that
stops all of this. Oh, we're better if you're in
the turt You're in. Okay. It's like the NCAA term.
You can be upset about your seat, but I don't
want to hear complaining about it because you're in. You're in.
You have a chance. There's no buys. It's the top
twelve teams ISH in the country, and there's a reason
that's take number two. It's top twelve teams ISH in

the country, and you're one of them. You gotta beat
good teams to go. But I can already see the
whole jockeying for playoff seed and and we should be higher,
and we're here and we're this. I can already see
that happening because everybody wants the advantage of being the
higher seat. But you know what, I'm gonna have no
patience for that. It's you're in. You're in the top
twelve teat, you're in the playoff, you're in. Just go

go play go play, go in.

See I'm all for it because then we parse it
out and it gets us more hot. Sports take debates
and fan bases get all fired up. It's good for business,
Jason Smith, it's good for business in your way. I

You can't put this whole college football player arguing about
the Seeds as high as it is that the your
team is now a bigger dumpster fire in the end
than any other team in the NFL. Did you got
to be proportional?

want to be mad. You want to be mad right
away about stuff. So let me tell you. I'll give
you two things you can be mad right away about
this playoff poll. Okay, one thing absolutely is gonna I
think it's gonna change, and another one we'll have to see.
The first one is this the top five teams in

the quote Power five conferences getting in. Yeah, that's not
gonna fly after this year. Congratulations Mountain West. I can't
see that happening again after this year because somebody's gonna
get left out and it's gonna be a three he
lost SEC team and they're gonna say, how can you
take the champion from the Mountain West. They don't even
have a conference anymore, How can you take them? That's

something that's going to make up that's going to foster
change in the playoff poll for next year.

I think it depends who gets left out number one,
what that record is. It'll be a three loss SEC
or Big ten team, and that's gonna do it. I
think they're not representation that it won't be you.

Left out Florida. Now you're telling me there's something to
not be upset about.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
You want to be upset about something that's not worth
gonna be all upset I'm gonna say about it, And
you're saying, no, this is not something to be upset
about it. I'm saying it's not gonna necessarily change, it's
not concealed. Well, you know it's absolutely consisting. Because you
said it's gonna make change. I'm saying it's not.

You not immediately. You don't seem nearly as upset about that.
When when a good team, a good team from a
Power five car is gonna get left out? Yeah, no,
get left out? Wait what I'm not mad about? What
are you up? Said about the seatings? Oh we should

But does it necessarily But they'll be three or four
teams probably in the same boat. You might have representatives
that from both the Big ten and SEC that want
to fight each other with their.

Three losses, I don't know who you are anymore, Which.

Leaves that Mountain West team standing high while those guys
fight each other.

This is like, that's what I'm saying. This is like
if the two things happened to me and and and
one is okay, Uh, someone's dog defecates on my lawn
and my car gets stolen. I don't really care if
if the if the dog, I'll clean it up. And
that's a big mine of thing. The car getting stolen
is a big thing. You're upset more about the dog

and your lawn than you are by your car. Well,
it's a matter of respect. Someone may have needed that car.
I don't get a guy respect. I'm gonna steal that
guy's car because I know he's not gonna chase that.

But there might have been a you know, desperation. And
you don't know that person's backstory. The person who let

take the cargo wherever you want to go and and

I mean, that's a that's going to be a bigger
deal that that's going to be a huge controversy coming
off of this year. What are you talking about? But

Yeah, that's that's inevitable, right because it becomes the our,
our conference is better than yours, which is the you know,
measuring stick that we do. I was trying to be
kind because we're still early. I can't use the analogies
that you'd like to. It's like busting out the tape
measures and comparing our accolades and our accomplishments here. H

and every conference does that, right, It's like, well, what's
our record here in bowls against you? Like they start
bringing in stuff that doesn't matter from coaches that are
long departed from these sidelines, like, well, for the last
twenty years, we're doing well. It's twenty twenty four to
due day yesterday. It's an old day now for the
casual fan. Having the Mountain West team in there is

gonna be pretty exciting. But yeah, to your point, there's
gonna be three or four teams that are all gonna say, well,
we lost three, but our three look at our three
versus you know, those two lost Teamsise.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
This is not the two thousand and four Boise State.
Oh hey, look the guy scored a touchdown, send Adrian
Peterson home and and proposed to his girlfriend. That's not this,
that's not this era. Yeah, the highest Onesy State gets
in over Georgia, right, because boys day, do you like
how they're sitting there, like Boise State's right at thirteen,
Like right, Georgia they get in over Georgia or Texas,

A and M or Colorado. You really think that's gonna
be something that's not Okay, We're gonna rectify all of that.
There's gonna be changes now because we don't want that
to happen again. I mean because right there's stubs where
could say, okay, you don't want to It's hard to
argue when you get outside of twelve. But you're talking
about Boise State, George. I mean, it goes back to
the philosophy of you let the mid major teams in
the NCAA Tournament when I don't think they should be

in at all because they don't play the schedule that
the Power five conferences do. I'm sorry, but playing an
ACC schedule is a lot more difficult than playing a
Horizon League schedule. Right, I'm just great that you're twenty
three and seven in the Horizon League. That's awesome. But
if you're twenty three, what are you gonna be in
the ACC? Five hundred?

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Maybe, But in the new world and college athletics, where
it's now a professional sport and acknowledged as such, then
we might as well just say you guys aren't eligible.

You're not even considered to be part of this.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
If if we're gonna go down that road, if we're
gonna just say, well, you know, and we're gonna argue
all these conferences, well you would be five hundred over here,
Well you're not. I mean, if you want to simulate
it and pick your captain against my captain and we
sit down with a video game, and that's how you
want to toss it, or have some jackass do a
one hundred million simulations, trot out the guy from the

elections going to be telepriate.

I don't even think it's I don't even think it's controversial.
I mean, you're talking about a team that's played Prairie
View and and and you toss State and Hawaii and
you yes, A couple of teams are not bad. UNLV
is not bad. A couple of teams, but suddenly say, hey,
here you are. You're in.

That's a difficult thing, man. But then here's what we do.
They never crack anywhere near the top top twelve. Okay,
but okay, where you have it. Now you're you're opening
it up for.

A one lost Mountain West team, not an undefeated Mountain
West team, a one lost Mountain Yes, your loss was
to Oregon and Oregon's number one team in the company,
and it was close. But a one lost Mountain Western.
You wait and see what that is. If Georgia is home,
you wait and see. If you thought Kirby Smart was
mad one of his players was celebrating with the other team, Wait,
do you see what happens if Georgia gets left out?
So bois.

I think they should go back and watch some of
these take and recognize where they failed.

And Carson was a jag just on the way until
a team that has all kinds of influence and makes
money for college football there like very where, there's where
we have to go and do our line of demarcation.
It is something we've talked about forever is what's the
best TV show, which means if Colorado runs out, even

if by whatever metrics, they should still be fifteenth or
fourteenth or whatever it is. No, they're in.

We know this because the spectacle, the eyeballs that it brings,
the dollars it brings, and sure, Boise State, you've got
the Heisman Trophy, favorite non quarterback and the stories and
smurf turf and everything that go with that, and I
get it on a grand scale. The question is do

they hang with these squads?

I don't know that.

It wasn't that part of the excitement of expanding to
twelve that a one loss team from a conference like
that gets in.

were peaking too early, That's the only thing. And and

week and they still won a game, So okay, speaking

too early. But my new biggest fear is that they're
gonna go cambeling at the wrong time. I mean, they're
gonna go cambambling campbeling at the wrong time. Dan Campbell
made a horrible decision at the end of that game
to settle for a fifty two yard field goal. Right,
nobody does that. You have you've been red hot offensively,

you have a time out, you have time, it's third down.
Try to get a little bit closer fifty. As much
as good as the kickers are, fifty two yard field goals,
you don't settle for him. You could get a little
bit closer. You can make it a forty yard field goal.
You can make it for and that is a much
better field goal to try to make. But instead Dan
Campbell says, no, I'm okay settling for a fifty two yarder. Now.

The lines have been rolling sevens all season, and he
just whispers it in into the upright, the exact opposite
of his previous field goal, which was all the way

are too much of a gambler, that this is why

gonna settle for a fifty two yarder, if that goes

Dan Campbell, that's your fault because that was a correctable
mistake that you could have not done. This is not
something where oh hey, it was a split second decision
and we could have gone one way or the other. No,
everybody tries to get closer. When it's a fifty two
yard field goal, you decide we're gonna do it because
I have confidence. It's great to have confidence in your team,
but there's also asking them to do a little bit

too much and that was a big risk. It worked
out for you, but that's that's the thing. Is that
my fears later on when you really need something like
this and you take that big risk and as we're result,
you open the door for the other team to win.
That's my fear for the Lions.
