my teams exist for you to just laugh at and
that's absolutely the case today we only keep an empty
suit sitting around. But hey, again, like I said, what

the tournament, right, I need JJ Reddick doing his part
already in the top six, and then the broadcaster to coach.
Pipeline can really work. So if those things happen, man,
I could be the coach and the GM of the Jets.
I mean, that's pretty cool, man. At this point, I'd
rather be the GM. There's a lot of work involved

in coaching, and you know, I'd be a lot of people.
You have to be in the building and watch a
lot of tape and everything can also quarterback, you'd match
Aaron Rudts. I wish I could still throw. I wish
I could still throw quarterback GM. Yeah, my shoulder coach,
My shoulder hasn't been the same. But I would like
that if you ever talk about the first ever quarterback coach,
it would be Aaron Rodgers. I'm sure that would be him.
I think we're already there are we. But the newest

college football playoff polls are out and there's a couple
of shockers at the top. And you know, look, with
the college football playoff poll, we were all excited to
get to twelve games and how great this was and
there's no downside and everything else. And I just know
that a large portion of the of the population just says, yeah,
you know, I don't know. Give me a couple of
weeks to get used to this, and I'll find something
(02:46):
to get mad about, don't I will find something in
this twelve team playoff that I don't like. I'm gonna
get mad about. Just remember, everybody, there's still a portion
of the larger quasi college football world. And I say
quasei college football or you know, the folks that don't
pay any attention to it. Yeah, except for the times
that they have to yell about rankings, sure that they

were just mad at the concept of twelve. It's too many,
there's water down, it's terrible. I want to get mad.
Now there's ap my lawn. There's an easy point and
a bigger point to make coming out of this. Right,
The easy point is this, and but sometimes you have
to start with the easy because we sometimes can be
the lowest common denominator society. So much the Boise State
(03:28):
ranked fourth, I know, shocks a lot of people, But
you can never go under the assumption that fans don't
understand why this is all. Why is suddenly Boise State
who was twelve to thirteenth? How the hell are they fourth? Well?
Because for the top five teams, division conference champions get
the top four seeds. That's the rule in college football
this year, and Boise State right now is deemed to

be those number four too. Okay, great, awesome, We're great.
Mountain West. I don't know, don't know if I agree,
but you know that the conference champions automatically one through four,
they get the buyers. And this was the point of
clarification then, right, Jason, So other than leaving it sit
out there and then all of a sudden they make
the jump this is the slow it'll bring folks along.
(04:12):
This is the way it actually But that's why they
did it, because if you waited till the end, because
really does any rankings thing Boise States the number four
team in the country, of course not. But if you
wait till the end, you get a big portion of
college football a population. It gets on social media and
says things. So again, as we've learned anything in the
(04:33):
last years, something doesn't have to be real for there
to be a controversy around it. And then all of
a sudden at the end, oh, how has bois stayed for? No, no, no,
that's the rule. I don't care. I'm mad. And then
a groundswell starts that makes no sense.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
But then what happens is you get the piling out
of Yeah, I don't care about that, but this is
what I don't like. So college football playoff meant is saying, okay,
let's just take care of this right now. Let's just
make sure the top four seeds are all the teams
at the tops of the conferences, where they sit right
now and where we would put them if we had to.

So it's easy.

Of the top four teams we know, now you have
to put them in order where we think they are
one through four, and so that obviously you have Oregon
number one, Texas to Miami three, Boise State four, the
leaders of all the conferences.

Okay, it's fine, but this was.

A lowest common denominator move to say, boy, we don't
want people going crazy.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Let's put this out there. Let's let be some kind
of controversy on Tuesday night, and then people will hopefully
understand that conference champions get the top four seats. Whether
you like it or not, that's a different story. But
this is how it goes. This is nothing has done.
There's no bending the rules. Is no all of a
sudden people are stuffing the votes for Boise State off
a bunch of stuff coming in from the blue field. No,
(05:41):
sometimes you gotta go LCD in that that would be
entertaining if that were in fact the case that suddenly
you know the hanging chads, well, chads, Chad and Jeremy
sweet soft stop and you have to explain to millennials
what hanging chads are. Come on, the election was in
two thousand, man, you gotta explain that. Yeah, that also
presumes folks voted and whatever else. But the other side
(06:04):
is just the big blinking lights now in week thirteen,
take care of it. I think the bigger, more laughable
thing was the fact that the Big ten had to
come out with the statement of oh, by the way,
Oregon's in the title game, no celebration, no fanfare over
the weekend, get the w move on whatever, Like, oh yeah,
(06:25):
they're showing they are locked in to the title game.
Oh by the way, the ranking come out later on today.
But as we look at it for week thirteen, you've
got a bunch of big matchups right off the jump,
right in Indiana, and folks get mad because of where
they are. Well, rubber meets the road this week, right,
(06:48):
There's a lot of incongruities when we look at some
losses not being equal to others. How are they behind them?
They lost on a new trophy of this that they
end they lost to them earlier in the season. It's
the joy and pain of the college football season as
we've known it forever, and that's never going to change.
(07:10):
Trying to say every slot in your top twenty five
is going to be dictated by logic and results on
the field. The hell have you been watching all these now?
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Here's the bigger point and this is legitimate, and Lane
Kiffin actually was the guy that brought this up and
put voice to it. He was a guy that said, listen,
I'll say the quiet part out loud. When he was
asked today during his weekly press conference about the situation, Look,
his Ole Miss team is right, would be the number
ten seed right now in the playoff. He said, Look,
I've talked to a lot of coaches, a lot of people,

and they don't want to be in a conference championship
game because this is schools that would be the number
two seed in. They don't want to be in the
conference championship game because they think that if they go
in with two losses and they lose the conference championship
game to get to three losses, a team that doesn't
make their conference title game with two losses will get
(08:04):
a playoff spot before them, right, So what he's saying
is that, hey, if everybody's got two losses, but we
have to go play the best team in our conference
and lose, that's going to keep us out of the
playoff when we achieved more than another team because they
didn't even get to their conference championship, which is a
legitimate gripe, and I completely get that to a degree.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
But it's also a matter of happenstance, circumstance, because maybe
you were just left out tiebreaker or whatever beat with
your two losses that you just didn't happen.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
No, he's more, he's this is the point more that
at the end of the year when they have to
weigh the at large teams, Okay, here's an ole Miss
team with three losses that lost that lost in the
conference championship game, versus a an SMU team that lost
once and didn't make the conference.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
That's up. Whatever it is that, that's what he's doing.
That's he's gott a And here's the best part, right,
because that's a legitimate concern.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
Like I said, wait five minutes. People come with something
they're angry with. And but here's the best part, a right,
is that this is why we're going to sixteen teams
as soon as possible. This Remember we had that little
bit of a push after the end of last year
twelve team playoff. Then there was that bit remember those
headlines for a few days where hey, a there's a
bit of an interest in going to sixteen teams, and
(09:16):
basically college football said let's just do twelve first and
see where we're at.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
This is going to get everybody to sixteen. This is
gonna be okay.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Now we need to get to sixteen because we can
have teams making a conference title game and getting left out. Okay,
we see this controversy whether it's next year, because you know,
the one thing sport that can change on a dime
you're not locked into anything, is college football.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
You can change. That's a sport that can change every
five minutes. So whether it's next year or the year after,
they will go to sixteen teams, so that doesn't become
a thing. This is not The college football Playoff was
not we're going to twelve teams and we're locking it
in because I think college football realized the mistake when
they said we're going to four teams. We're locked into
this format and that's what we're doing. Okay, Well, since
(09:55):
it's something new, you don't know how it's going to
play out. How about we say let's do four for
a couple of year and then see they could have
done this years ago. They could have tell you know,
four is little to let's go to eight. Let's go
to twelve. Let's go to sixteen like all other sports. Hey,
not enough Berson. Major League Baseball will let a wildcard,
Let another wildcard, let a third wildcard, So you can
do that. And I think they realize that now, okay,
(10:15):
since college football changes, let's go to twelve for now
and then see and something like this. Absolutely one hundred
percent they will go to sixteen teams. I would say
by next year, but two years at the latest. And
that's what this is going to prove. No, but that's
what we're watching. Conference to conferences, things move.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
What do you get? You get a twenty four month
cycle to replenish your supplies. Right, the PAC twelve was dead.
Get taa, it's resurrected. Who wants in jump back in
wherever you were? And it doesn't mean that it's the
same strength that it once was, as you have the attrition,
but it's just that very point, you know, we talk
about nil, We talk about the potential of Hey, if
(10:52):
this coach decides to jump to you know, the opposite
coast in a totally different conference, he can take his
team with them. Hell, he could take three quarters of
his team with him. Fire the rest of the folks
saying you're in the portal goodbye. And that's how Dion
started last year, right, Hey, everybody here, you're not gonna
be here. I got my guys and they're coming. And
(11:14):
then year two fortified a lot of other things. One
of the great debates of how good or poor whatever
they are based on strength to schedule, and that's where
we start getting into fights and where maybe they tweak
rules as well in terms of these early season games
and how much weight they have. Right It's one of
the arguments against where Indiana is ranked right now is
(11:35):
how poor that schedule was. But they're a great example
of Hey, I'm going over here, I win a lot.
You want to come with, there's gonna be money for you,
and we're gonna have an opportunity to do great things. Ready,
come on aboard. And so that's it. Shout the NCAA
following that same rule, Jason becomes the Wait, there's that
much more money. Yeah, forget about the They'll take the

bad headlines. They've been a bad headline as an organization
for a year. We're we're just gonna head more, team
more and look and and and that's and that's going
to be a great byproduct of the system they put
in out because as long as everybody's got something to
fight for, it's okay. Because you could say, all right,
we're going to sixteen teams. What are these teams like
(12:17):
five through fifteen? What are they fighting about? Doesn't matter
if you rank six or matter tanthroll. What are we
fighting for At the end of the end, obviously you
need to win enough games, But as long as you
have something for everybody to fight for, that's great. Like
if you're at the top, you want to win and
get that buy right, and let's just say the next group, Hey,
we want to win and get that home game, right,
we want to play at home. Everybody else is fighting
(12:39):
to get in. So if you have the first group that.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Wants that wants to win the conferences and keep the buys,
then the next group is fighting to either get there
or to get the home games. Okay, Now you're talking
about one through ten in college football, and then then
eleven through sixteen, which is really eleven through twenty five
are fighting it out over the course of the past
few weeks to make it into the top six team.
So as long as you have people fighting for something

and there's no irrelevant games.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
That's terrific.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Now once in a while, you're gonna get a team. Hey,
we're kind of locked in, like Notre Dame. Hey, we
have one loss, We're not anywhere. We're ranked eighth. We're
gonna be eighth. We're gonna stay eighth. No one's gonna move.
We're gonna be fine. But that's fine.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
I don't think that that you're talking about one tiny thing.
But as long as it's not a host of schools, like, yeah,
this is gonna work. I'm telling you you'd like twelve teams.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
We're going to sixteen, and it'll be buys, It'll be
could be double buys, it could be buys at home games.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
We're gonna go to sixteen next year or the year after.
I guarantee it, Army and sounding the charge for everybody.
How about that Army usc the final two games on
that Notre Dame schedule. But so, I mean Army could
get it. Think about that, if you had sixteen teams,
Army could get in. Tell me that's not America's team.
Army loses, and not because I've been influenced at all
by Jeff Goldbloom that game. But if Army loses to
(13:53):
Notre Dame and it's really close, like in a sixteen team.
Could you keep Army out of the play off? Of
course you can't, but you know me, whenever there could
be chaos in between the white lines, I am all
for it. An even going back to the four team playoff.
If we're really truly honest with ourselves, how many times
do we really have a problem. It did not happen
(14:14):
nearly as much as revisionist history would like to have
you believe. But there's a lot of money to be had,
and November games have meaning, not less all the scare
tactics and yelling from the mountain that this was going
to be a disaster. Down the stretch, there's so many
more games that still have consequence, because again it goes
(14:37):
back to who did you beat and when and how?
And an early season win may may look worse as
a team slides down the back end and may affect
how the computer looks at you and how folks are
looking at your squad. Oh they beat up on cream puffs,
a whole bunch of non twenty fives. Well they were
number eight when we played them, and then now they stink,
(15:00):
so we see how that slide happens. And that's what
the great debates are as you get into the holiday season.

But earlier tonight, the Celtics end the Cavaliers unbeaten season.
The Cavaliers will not go eighty two and zero. They
fall to fix the Celtics winning it one twenty to one, seventeen.
Like it was a big game from Jason Tatum. Was
a terrific game across the board. You knew this was
going to happen. It's an unbelievable start for the Cavaliers.

They're here to stay in the East obviously, but you know,
just all by the way forgetting here are the Celtics.
We have no problems. We're twelve and three, if you're
not fifteen and one. We're still the story of the NBA.
We're the defending champions. We're just as good through we're
a year ago. But okay, this pesty Cavaliers team won't lose.
And I'm sick of reading about Donovan Mitchell because it's
no longer about him wearing Knicks gear. I really want

to get to the Knicks. I want to get somebody
look at me. I'm wearing my Mets hat. I'm wearing
my p Alonzo jersey. I'm wearing my wan Sodo jersey.

Now people are gonna understand, Hey, we're still here. Didn't
go anywhere. Thirty five and eight for Mitchell in this one,
but he was minus fourteen on the night. But for
the Celtics is the best way to be. Like Opening Night,
it was a lot about the revenge tour. These guys
are salty about the Olympics and everything else. And then
it got to be quiet. Just go do your work,

get better, figure out your rotations. Eventually, your guy will
get back in the mix. Your guy, Yeah, eventually, and

of urgency, but it's an NBA Emirates Cup game. Man.

in tonight? Look at the effort that we got from
the Celtics. I think I think they sold it's the

the Cowboys and the Bears, they are fighting, well, we
want to be the biggest dumpster fire in the NFL,
and every they're taking big swings. Man, these are haymakers

the Jets firing Joe Douglas. What's eberfus? What are you
gonna do tomorrow? To top what's happened the last couple
of days. What could the Bears possibly do? Man, you
gotta do something atop this. I would say this. I
was very excited because one of the things I pointed
out in the problem with that field goal. Forget about
the fact that they also then sent a letter saying,
wait a man, that apology because he was should have

been a penalty on the plane. Now forget that, the
fact that they didn't move to the right hashbark and
then the great Robbie Gold That was the thing he
brought up today, Like I was right. I was right.
That was the bigger problems that you didn't run to
play at least to put it on the proper hash
where he normally kicked everything. So it was already jacked.
But no, they plenty of time. As I said last week,

there was a lot of hot air about a million
other things. It was packers week. It was packers week,
and it didn't matter. It was Look today, I'll tell
you this because one obvious thing and that and then
we'll get to Aaron Rodgers. Is this an awful move?
Is this something? Oh, it's an embarrassing thing. No, because

clearly the Jets season is lost, and the Jets want
to get their a big jump on who they would
hire next to be their GM. Obviously, if you fire
a GM now you can start talking. Didn't want to
have to go through the lame duck series of season
of Hey, this is a guy we really like, but
we still have our general manager. We're not going to
the playoffs. Reportedly, Woody Johnson was fuming after the loss

against the Colts. I'm like, dude, that's the loss that
broke you. That's the come on, man, that's the loss.
So no, this was something that had to happen the Jets. No,
it's a lost season and at this point that could
be looking at Dion and Shadura Sanders. But they want
to jump ahead and they want to get a jump
on who their next GM is going to be. Right,
So I completely get that. This is not the Jets
tire fire part of the conversation. There is a Jets

part of it, but this part of it. I mean
there were quotes from around the league calling him a
quote dead man walking. Well, yeah, look, I mean because
there's nothing I can say. He had a horrible run
as a GM. He brought talent into the building, but
they didn't win. He had two shots to get the
quarterback right, and most people get one shot to get

the quarterback right. He had too. He inherited Sam.

Dartoled said no, we don't want Sam, we want Zach Wilson. No,
now you're the chance to go get Aaron Rodgers. Okay,
his specialty is the offensive line. But every year, what
was it. We're going to give a guy well past
his prime twenty million dollars and he's got an injury history.
We're gonna see if it works like that was supposed
to be that. That's so many people told me this
roster was full.

Problem. There's a lot of star power. It was. It
was a lot of star power. No matter how many
times I shouted at the doorway yelling your line, stakes,
look the offensive line. He's never fit. It's been the
Jets offensive line turnover has been like the Chiefs at
wide receiver. They just keep We're gonna keep doing it, except
those guys show up and actually do their damn Townley.

Some of them show up, but they do more than
what you got, only they don't flip like a turnstile,
which one of them is Canarious Tony' not smart guy.
But is that a champion or is he not? Look,
that's the biggest thing is that he couldn't get the
offense of line right. And he is an offensive line guru.
That was what it was. All was coming from the Eagles. Hey,
this guy's gonna get the O line right, and he
whiffed on the O line every single Brandon Stanley comments

we were having night. I mean, how do you whiff
every Everything was the same.

We get a guy wrong in the draft, but we
make up for it by going out and signing guys
to risky contracts because they're coming off of injury or
some sort.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
They're older once upon a time, how do you not
get it right? Hey, that veteran savvy was gonna pay
off eventually. But the big question now coming off of
this is all this means Aaron Rodgers has done with
the Jets, right, He's done after this year. They're walking away.
It's gonna be a new regime. Come in. Not so fast, man,
not so fast. I will give you that it's the
(24:45):
Jets or nothing, because that there's no other team in
the NFL that's gonna pick up Aaron Rodgers right now.
I liked everybody making the dots so he could do
the full bread farm and show up in Minnesota. Right
Captain Kirk doesn't have the guarantees and McCarthy hasn't played
it down and just had another knee surgery, so I'd
(25:05):
not bring him back to the NFC North. I mean, real, look,
it's the Jets are nothing right and he knows this.
So what does this mean, Oh, the Jets are gonna
completely turn the page. Well, what if they don't finish
high enough to get their quarterback that they're gonna draft
in the top three? They could, I mean, they could
finish in the top three, top four and get a
gross But what if they don't. Aaron Rodgers knows right
(25:26):
now he is playing for his NFL future. This is
the only little bit of a change. We told you
how the rest of the series is gonna go for
Aaron Rodgers a couple weeks ago. He's gonna find a
way to not play the last few games and see
if there's some kind of interest in him in the offseason,
he would go somewhere else if not retire. But now
he's really left faced with his NFL mortality. All the
guys that brought him into the building with the Jets
(25:47):
are gone. He knows nobody else is gonna sign him
the way he has looked so far. So he knows
that if I want to keep playing, I really got
to do something. So really, for Rogers the rest of
this season, he's got to play, and it's in an
audition to stay with the Jets for one more year.
Doesn't mean the way, doesn't mean they're not going to
draft a quarterback, but it means that instead of hey,
(26:09):
getting a guy that they threw into the fire twice
with Zach Wilson and Sam Darnell and it didn't work,
the new guy's gonna come in and say, Okay, this
is a complete and total rebuild. Sorry, Jets fans, I
know we've sucked for the last decade, but you're gonna
have to put up with some more suckage while we
get this team going. So if he plays well, Rogers
will come back for one more year, and it will
(26:29):
be his final year in the NFL. He'll announce it
somewhere that he is retiring and it's gonna be it
for him, and the Jets will probably keep him and
bringing the quest. He knows that his job is eight.
We'll bring the next quarterback along he's gonna get next year,
and then we're moving on, and that's how we'll enfer him.
That's about as gracefully as it could end for Aaron Rodgers.
Now is there a bit where he could play great
at the end of this year and say I'm not
(26:51):
gonna finish any better than this and I'm done. Sure,
but he still wants to play, so by and large,
he's gonna be playing this next few weeks for his
NFL future and if he can, and if he stinks
and is not better, sometime after Christmas, he will announce
this is it for me. I'm playing three more games,
two more games, and this is it. I realize that's it.
(27:12):
I'm putting everything i have into these last couple of
weeks and I'm really excited for this. It's the end
of my journey and that's how it. But that's how
it's gonna go for Aaron Rodgers. He's playing for his job,
for his NFL future. If he plays well, the Jets
can keep him while they bring in their next quarterback.
If he doesn't, then by the end of this year,
right the top before the calendar turns twenty twenty five,
Rogers will announce I'm done. This is it for me.
(27:34):
Another couple of weeks, I'm happy, and then I'll be
on TV. Then I'll be on Pat McAfee every day.
It's not just Tuesdays. It'll be every day with Aaron
Rodgers next year with me, and I'll be doing my
own show that's on late at night where I can
talk about conspiracies and football and all kinds of crazy
ass stuff. But that's how it's gonna go for Rogers.
There's nothing stopping him from doing that now. And he
does playing quarterback, does it now? Yeah? No, give give

it time. He's kind of held off a little bit
on that. That's what I'm saying. Once it's done, If
he's done, I don't. I absolutely got that. Yeah, you
think he's gonna bow out that gracefully get out of here?

Well, what about all that's left is the fall? How
you fall is a big deal. That's the only thing.
Here's what they need to do.

Though, if they draft a guy in the first round,
perhaps it can spur on greatness. That's happened. I'm just kidding,
but really it comes down to Johnson and Johnson and
how they feel about it all because that was the
power move that was made. I don't have, you know,
copious notes. I haven't didn't bug the franchise, but you

can't tell me it was all Joe Douglas going, Yeah,
let me bring in this guy and all his jackass
buddies to be my wide receiving corps. Oh and Hacket,
doesn't matter that he's no good, but let's have him
be the guy. Oh and we're gonna strip him of
his duties, but he's still gonna have you know, titles
and and still gonna be around the building as opposed
to being out on his ear like all of that.

That that that's not Joe Douglas. Yeah, don't be too sure,
I mean the whole thing. If Rogers plays well, there
will be a big push to say, hey, it wasn't
his fault.

It took him a while to come back from his injury.
There'll be a lot of push and and let we
don't want to rush because whoever they draft first.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
That screw that play right away. Sure, and they'll be
told no because Aaron. But you bring in a new coach,
you bring in a new GM, they're they're both empty
suits again. So long does that guy's happen? Because it's
Johnson to him. But he's lost on But he's lost
so much, he's not playing well. He's lost so much
power that all he can do now is try to

hold on to what he has. He's the only how
that matters is the owner. The rest of it doesn't
matter talking everybody. Look at this point, he would love
to get out from under Aaron Rodgers, but he can't.
But if Rogers plays well down the stretch, I can
see a bit of a Hey, next year's transition. Anyway,
we have money that we have to pay to some guys.
Let's bring our young guys in.

Let's not go too crazy because I'm sure the next
GM is gonna come in and say, hey, I see
your problem. You put all these young guys out there
at quarterback way too early, right. You ruin Sam Darnold's development,
You ruin Zach Wilson's development.

We like we're gonna draft another guy. I'm sure let's
do this, and Wody Johnson will say, yes, yes, let's
do it that way. I'm don't close the door on
Rogers playing next year. I'm telling you don't. No, I
think he's still there, Like I don't think he's going anywhere.
I think it's one hundred percent to say. But again,
you're putting a lot of weight on what the GM,

new GM and coach want, Like, hey, would you like
this job? Yes, here's the rules of engagement. I got
him for a year. That's a free they'll care. It's
a free year. It's a free free we If we suck,
we suck. Okay, it's a free year. That's fine. We're good.

If Aaron Rodgers sucks, moving on, then our quarterback's taking

wh would owe him a certain amount of money. I

four different quarterbacks, that has found a way to navigate
the brand through chaos, through bad quarterback play, and the

team has never quit on him. They have stayed together.

And now he's got a little something something with that
three wide receiver said, he's got there with Tillman.

And Elijah Boor and Jerry Judy. Right, this is a
guy that has done nothing but succeed. Is this year
coming at him for what?

No, it's not. But look, it's not like the Browns
were set up for success. And you can't get over
having really bad quarterbacks play, right, But otherwise you're a
roster except for that, you know that one position, except
for the most important that kind of where you were
force fed.

That's like that quarterback on your driver's test. Well outside
of when you hit the light pole, you had a
really good driver's test.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
No, that's it.

But if he gets let go, he has a new
job within twenty four hours. As if there's no you're
coming in. I don't care what we have the year, come,
you're our guy. He is a terrific head coach all
those things I outline that he does. He can bring
to a team. He can bring stability, he will bring
starting over, he will bring a plan. He will bring
a long distance plan. He will bring a plan to
get by if the quarterback position stinks. I mean, there's

no situation that he's faced with that he has really
failed on whatever the Browns threw at him, and they
threw a lot of him. Man, all that chaos, he
was able to say, Okay, we're gonna go in this direction,
We're gonna do this this. I mean, he's able to
tackle everything and and that's why he's so valuable.

I mean, two time coach, he does. You don't just
lose that over the course of a year. Now, could
your message get stale after a couple Yeah, I get it,
But this is still two time coach theater. So Jimmy
Asam wants to be crazy and say we need a
new head coach. Yeah, I'll take Kevin Stefanski. Give I'll
take him in a second, is sec no doubt you would?
I would Giants would stand oney, the two thirds of

the league, all the non playoff teams would take Kevin Steve.
Even a few of those would take him. As well.
But you know, to your point, last year you look
at the roster, and coming into this year, it was
all right, it's a good roster. Can you get to
Shaun Watson to be functional? Not even good? Right, it

out what you got at the wide receiver position, and
then you push forward and you made a deal. You've
made some moves and Djoku has been in it, out
of the lineup, all of that, but you look at
the roster that you have is still solid top to bottom.
Right now as we sit here, he is two fours
tied for the seventh best worst however you want to

term it, odds for the next coach to be fired.
Number one jug Peterson of course, followed by Matti Eberfus,
followed by Zach Taylor, McCarthy, Dable, Gerrod Mayo, which seems
really odd. And then he's tied with Super Bowls at
twenty to one.

rather be the GM. There's a lot of work involved

in coaching, and you know, I'd be a lot of people.
You have to be in the building and watch a
lot of tape and everything can also quarterback, you'd match
Aaron Rudts. I wish I could still throw. I wish
I could still throw quarterback GM. Yeah, my shoulder coach,
My shoulder hasn't been the same. But I would like
that if you ever talk about the first ever quarterback coach,
it would be Aaron Rodgers. I'm sure that would be him.
I think we're already there are we. But the newest

college football playoff polls are out and there's a couple
of shockers at the top. And you know, look, with
the college football playoff poll, we were all excited to
get to twelve games and how great this was and
there's no downside and everything else. And I just know
that a large portion of the of the population just says, yeah,
you know, I don't know. Give me a couple of
weeks to get used to this, and I'll find something
(02:46):
to get mad about, don't I will find something in
this twelve team playoff that I don't like. I'm gonna
get mad about. Just remember, everybody, there's still a portion
of the larger quasi college football world. And I say
quasei college football or you know, the folks that don't
pay any attention to it. Yeah, except for the times
that they have to yell about rankings, sure that they
(03:07):
were just mad at the concept of twelve. It's too many,
there's water down, it's terrible. I want to get mad.
Now there's ap my lawn. There's an easy point and
a bigger point to make coming out of this. Right,
The easy point is this, and but sometimes you have
to start with the easy because we sometimes can be
the lowest common denominator society. So much the Boise State
(03:28):
ranked fourth, I know, shocks a lot of people, But
you can never go under the assumption that fans don't
understand why this is all. Why is suddenly Boise State
who was twelve to thirteenth? How the hell are they fourth? Well?
Because for the top five teams, division conference champions get
the top four seeds. That's the rule in college football
this year, and Boise State right now is deemed to
(03:50):
be those number four too. Okay, great, awesome, We're great.
Mountain West. I don't know, don't know if I agree,
but you know that the conference champions automatically one through four,
they get the buyers. And this was the point of
clarification then, right, Jason, So other than leaving it sit
out there and then all of a sudden they make
the jump this is the slow it'll bring folks along.
(04:12):
This is the way it actually But that's why they
did it, because if you waited till the end, because
really does any rankings thing Boise States the number four
team in the country, of course not. But if you
wait till the end, you get a big portion of
college football a population. It gets on social media and
says things. So again, as we've learned anything in the
(04:33):
last years, something doesn't have to be real for there
to be a controversy around it. And then all of
a sudden at the end, oh, how has bois stayed for? No, no, no,
that's the rule. I don't care. I'm mad. And then
a groundswell starts that makes no sense.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
But then what happens is you get the piling out
of Yeah, I don't care about that, but this is
what I don't like. So college football playoff meant is saying, okay,
let's just take care of this right now. Let's just
make sure the top four seeds are all the teams
at the tops of the conferences, where they sit right
now and where we would put them if we had to.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
So it's easy.

Of the top four teams we know, now you have
to put them in order where we think they are
one through four, and so that obviously you have Oregon
number one, Texas to Miami three, Boise State four, the
leaders of all the conferences.

Okay, it's fine, but this was.

A lowest common denominator move to say, boy, we don't
want people going crazy.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Let's put this out there. Let's let be some kind
of controversy on Tuesday night, and then people will hopefully
understand that conference champions get the top four seats. Whether
you like it or not, that's a different story. But
this is how it goes. This is nothing has done.
There's no bending the rules. Is no all of a
sudden people are stuffing the votes for Boise State off
a bunch of stuff coming in from the blue field. No,
(05:41):
sometimes you gotta go LCD in that that would be
entertaining if that were in fact the case that suddenly
you know the hanging chads, well, chads, Chad and Jeremy
sweet soft stop and you have to explain to millennials
what hanging chads are. Come on, the election was in
two thousand, man, you gotta explain that. Yeah, that also
presumes folks voted and whatever else. But the other side
(06:04):
is just the big blinking lights now in week thirteen,
take care of it. I think the bigger, more laughable
thing was the fact that the Big ten had to
come out with the statement of oh, by the way,
Oregon's in the title game, no celebration, no fanfare over
the weekend, get the w move on whatever, Like, oh yeah,
(06:25):
they're showing they are locked in to the title game.
Oh by the way, the ranking come out later on today.
But as we look at it for week thirteen, you've
got a bunch of big matchups right off the jump,
right in Indiana, and folks get mad because of where
they are. Well, rubber meets the road this week, right,
(06:48):
There's a lot of incongruities when we look at some
losses not being equal to others. How are they behind them?
They lost on a new trophy of this that they
end they lost to them earlier in the season. It's
the joy and pain of the college football season as
we've known it forever, and that's never going to change.
(07:10):
Trying to say every slot in your top twenty five
is going to be dictated by logic and results on
the field. The hell have you been watching all these now?
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Here's the bigger point and this is legitimate, and Lane
Kiffin actually was the guy that brought this up and
put voice to it. He was a guy that said, listen,
I'll say the quiet part out loud. When he was
asked today during his weekly press conference about the situation, Look,
his Ole Miss team is right, would be the number
ten seed right now in the playoff. He said, Look,
I've talked to a lot of coaches, a lot of people,
(07:44):
and they don't want to be in a conference championship
game because this is schools that would be the number
two seed in. They don't want to be in the
conference championship game because they think that if they go
in with two losses and they lose the conference championship
game to get to three losses, a team that doesn't
make their conference title game with two losses will get
(08:04):
a playoff spot before them, right, So what he's saying
is that, hey, if everybody's got two losses, but we
have to go play the best team in our conference
and lose, that's going to keep us out of the
playoff when we achieved more than another team because they
didn't even get to their conference championship, which is a
legitimate gripe, and I completely get that to a degree.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
But it's also a matter of happenstance, circumstance, because maybe
you were just left out tiebreaker or whatever beat with
your two losses that you just didn't happen.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
No, he's more, he's this is the point more that
at the end of the year when they have to
weigh the at large teams, Okay, here's an ole Miss
team with three losses that lost that lost in the
conference championship game, versus a an SMU team that lost
once and didn't make the conference.

because that's a legitimate concern.

Like I said, wait five minutes. People come with something
they're angry with. And but here's the best part, a right,
is that this is why we're going to sixteen teams
as soon as possible. This Remember we had that little
bit of a push after the end of last year
twelve team playoff. Then there was that bit remember those

bit of an interest in going to sixteen teams, and

basically college football said let's just do twelve first and
see where we're at.

Now we need to get to sixteen because we can
have teams making a conference title game and getting left out. Okay,
we see this controversy whether it's next year, because you know,
the one thing sport that can change on a dime
you're not locked into anything, is college football.

It doesn't matter.

You can change. That's a sport that can change every
five minutes. So whether it's next year or the year after,
they will go to sixteen teams, so that doesn't become
a thing. This is not The college football Playoff was
not we're going to twelve teams and we're locking it
in because I think college football realized the mistake when
they said we're going to four teams. We're locked into
this format and that's what we're doing. Okay, Well, since

it's something new, you don't know how it's going to
play out. How about we say let's do four for
a couple of year and then see they could have
done this years ago. They could have tell you know,
four is little to let's go to eight. Let's go
to twelve. Let's go to sixteen like all other sports. Hey,
not enough Berson. Major League Baseball will let a wildcard,
Let another wildcard, let a third wildcard, So you can
do that. And I think they realize that now, okay,

since college football changes, let's go to twelve for now
and then see and something like this. Absolutely one hundred
percent they will go to sixteen teams. I would say
by next year, but two years at the latest. And
that's what this is going to prove. No, but that's
what we're watching. Conference to conferences, things move.

What do you get? You get a twenty four month
cycle to replenish your supplies. Right, the PAC twelve was dead.
Get taa, it's resurrected. Who wants in jump back in
wherever you were? And it doesn't mean that it's the
same strength that it once was, as you have the attrition,
but it's just that very point, you know, we talk
about nil, We talk about the potential of Hey, if

this coach decides to jump to you know, the opposite
coast in a totally different conference, he can take his
team with them. Hell, he could take three quarters of
his team with him. Fire the rest of the folks
saying you're in the portal goodbye. And that's how Dion
started last year, right, Hey, everybody here, you're not gonna
be here. I got my guys and they're coming. And

then year two fortified a lot of other things. One
of the great debates of how good or poor whatever
they are based on strength to schedule, and that's where
we start getting into fights and where maybe they tweak
rules as well in terms of these early season games
and how much weight they have. Right It's one of
the arguments against where Indiana is ranked right now is

how poor that schedule was. But they're a great example
of Hey, I'm going over here, I win a lot.
You want to come with, there's gonna be money for you,
and we're gonna have an opportunity to do great things. Ready,
come on aboard. And so that's it. Shout the NCAA
following that same rule, Jason becomes the Wait, there's that
much more money. Yeah, forget about the They'll take the

bad headlines. They've been a bad headline as an organization
for a year. We're we're just gonna head more, team
more and look and and and that's and that's going
to be a great byproduct of the system they put
in out because as long as everybody's got something to
fight for, it's okay. Because you could say, all right,
we're going to sixteen teams. What are these teams like

five through fifteen? What are they fighting about? Doesn't matter
if you rank six or matter tanthroll. What are we
fighting for At the end of the end, obviously you
need to win enough games, But as long as you
have something for everybody to fight for, that's great. Like
if you're at the top, you want to win and
get that buy right, and let's just say the next group, Hey,
we want to win and get that home game, right,
we want to play at home. Everybody else is fighting

to get in. So if you have the first group that.

Wants that wants to win the conferences and keep the buys,
then the next group is fighting to either get there
or to get the home games. Okay, Now you're talking
about one through ten in college football, and then then
eleven through sixteen, which is really eleven through twenty five
are fighting it out over the course of the past
few weeks to make it into the top six team.
So as long as you have people fighting for something

and there's no irrelevant games.

Now once in a while, you're gonna get a team. Hey,
we're kind of locked in, like Notre Dame. Hey, we
have one loss, We're not anywhere. We're ranked eighth. We're
gonna be eighth. We're gonna stay eighth. No one's gonna move.
We're gonna be fine. But that's fine.

I don't think that that you're talking about one tiny thing.
But as long as it's not a host of schools, like, yeah,
this is gonna work. I'm telling you you'd like twelve teams.

We're going to sixteen, and it'll be buys, It'll be
could be double buys, it could be buys at home games.

We're gonna go to sixteen next year or the year after.
I guarantee it, Army and sounding the charge for everybody.
How about that Army usc the final two games on
that Notre Dame schedule. But so, I mean Army could
get it. Think about that, if you had sixteen teams,
Army could get in. Tell me that's not America's team.
Army loses, and not because I've been influenced at all
by Jeff Goldbloom that game. But if Army loses to

Notre Dame and it's really close, like in a sixteen team.
Could you keep Army out of the play off? Of
course you can't, but you know me, whenever there could
be chaos in between the white lines, I am all
for it. An even going back to the four team playoff.
If we're really truly honest with ourselves, how many times
do we really have a problem. It did not happen

nearly as much as revisionist history would like to have
you believe. But there's a lot of money to be had,
and November games have meaning, not less all the scare
tactics and yelling from the mountain that this was going
to be a disaster. Down the stretch, there's so many
more games that still have consequence, because again it goes

back to who did you beat and when and how?
And an early season win may may look worse as
a team slides down the back end and may affect
how the computer looks at you and how folks are
looking at your squad. Oh they beat up on cream puffs,
a whole bunch of non twenty fives. Well they were
number eight when we played them, and then now they stink,

so we see how that slide happens. And that's what
the great debates are as you get into the holiday season.

clearly the Jets season is lost, and the Jets want
to get their a big jump on who they would
hire next to be their GM. Obviously, if you fire
a GM now you can start talking. Didn't want to

the playoffs. Reportedly, Woody Johnson was fuming after the loss

against the Colts. I'm like, dude, that's the loss that
broke you. That's the come on, man, that's the loss.
So no, this was something that had to happen the Jets. No,
it's a lost season and at this point that could
be looking at Dion and Shadura Sanders. But they want
to jump ahead and they want to get a jump
on who their next GM is going to be. Right,
So I completely get that. This is not the Jets
tire fire part of the conversation. There is a Jets

tire fire part of the conversation. This is not that
part of it, but this part of it. I mean
there were quotes from around the league calling him a
quote dead man walking. Well, yeah, look, I mean because
there's nothing I can say. He had a horrible run
as a GM. He brought talent into the building, but
they didn't win. He had two shots to get the
quarterback right, and most people get one shot to get

the quarterback right. He had too. He inherited Sam.

Dartoled said no, we don't want Sam, we want Zach Wilson. No,
now you're the chance to go get Aaron Rodgers. Okay,
his specialty is the offensive line. But every year, what
was it. We're going to give a guy well past
his prime twenty million dollars and he's got an injury history.
We're gonna see if it works like that was supposed
to be that. That's so many people told me this
roster was full.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Problem. There's a lot of star power. It was. It
was a lot of star power. No matter how many
times I shouted at the doorway yelling your line, stakes,
look the offensive line. He's never fit. It's been the
Jets offensive line turnover has been like the Chiefs at
wide receiver. They just keep We're gonna keep doing it, except
those guys show up and actually do their damn Townley.

Some of them show up, but they do more than
what you got, only they don't flip like a turnstile,
which one of them is Canarious Tony' not smart guy.
But is that a champion or is he not? Look,
that's the biggest thing is that he couldn't get the
offense of line right. And he is an offensive line guru.
That was what it was. All was coming from the Eagles. Hey,
this guy's gonna get the O line right, and he
whiffed on the O line every single Brandon Stanley comments

we were having night. I mean, how do you whiff
every Everything was the same.

We get a guy wrong in the draft, but we
make up for it by going out and signing guys
to risky contracts because they're coming off of injury or
some sort.

They're older once upon a time, how do you not
get it right? Hey, that veteran savvy was gonna pay
off eventually. But the big question now coming off of
this is all this means Aaron Rodgers has done with
the Jets, right, He's done after this year. They're walking away.
It's gonna be a new regime. Come in. Not so fast, man,
not so fast. I will give you that it's the

Jets or nothing, because that there's no other team in
the NFL that's gonna pick up Aaron Rodgers right now.
I liked everybody making the dots so he could do
the full bread farm and show up in Minnesota. Right
Captain Kirk doesn't have the guarantees and McCarthy hasn't played
it down and just had another knee surgery, so I'd

not bring him back to the NFC North. I mean, real, look,
it's the Jets are nothing right and he knows this.
So what does this mean, Oh, the Jets are gonna
completely turn the page. Well, what if they don't finish
high enough to get their quarterback that they're gonna draft
in the top three? They could, I mean, they could
finish in the top three, top four and get a
gross But what if they don't. Aaron Rodgers knows right
(25:26):
now he is playing for his NFL future. This is
the only little bit of a change. We told you
how the rest of the series is gonna go for
Aaron Rodgers a couple weeks ago. He's gonna find a
way to not play the last few games and see
if there's some kind of interest in him in the offseason,
he would go somewhere else if not retire. But now
he's really left faced with his NFL mortality. All the
guys that brought him into the building with the Jets
(25:47):
are gone. He knows nobody else is gonna sign him
the way he has looked so far. So he knows
that if I want to keep playing, I really got
to do something. So really, for Rogers the rest of
this season, he's got to play, and it's in an
audition to stay with the Jets for one more year.
Doesn't mean the way, doesn't mean they're not going to
draft a quarterback, but it means that instead of hey,
(26:09):
getting a guy that they threw into the fire twice
with Zach Wilson and Sam Darnell and it didn't work,
the new guy's gonna come in and say, Okay, this
is a complete and total rebuild. Sorry, Jets fans, I
know we've sucked for the last decade, but you're gonna
have to put up with some more suckage while we
get this team going. So if he plays well, Rogers
will come back for one more year, and it will
(26:29):
be his final year in the NFL. He'll announce it
somewhere that he is retiring and it's gonna be it
for him, and the Jets will probably keep him and
bringing the quest. He knows that his job is eight.
We'll bring the next quarterback along he's gonna get next year,
and then we're moving on, and that's how we'll enfer him.
That's about as gracefully as it could end for Aaron Rodgers.
Now is there a bit where he could play great
at the end of this year and say I'm not
(26:51):
gonna finish any better than this and I'm done. Sure,
but he still wants to play, so by and large,
he's gonna be playing this next few weeks for his
NFL future and if he can, and if he stinks
and is not better, sometime after Christmas, he will announce
this is it for me. I'm playing three more games,
two more games, and this is it. I realize that's it.
(27:12):
I'm putting everything i have into these last couple of
weeks and I'm really excited for this. It's the end
of my journey and that's how it. But that's how
it's gonna go for Aaron Rodgers. He's playing for his job,
for his NFL future. If he plays well, the Jets
can keep him while they bring in their next quarterback.
If he doesn't, then by the end of this year,
right the top before the calendar turns twenty twenty five,
Rogers will announce I'm done. This is it for me.
(27:34):
Another couple of weeks, I'm happy, and then I'll be
on TV. Then I'll be on Pat McAfee every day.
It's not just Tuesdays. It'll be every day with Aaron
Rodgers next year with me, and I'll be doing my
own show that's on late at night where I can
talk about conspiracies and football and all kinds of crazy
ass stuff. But that's how it's gonna go for Rogers.
There's nothing stopping him from doing that now. And he
does playing quarterback, does it now? Yeah? No, give give

it time. He's kind of held off a little bit
on that. That's what I'm saying. Once it's done, If
he's done, I don't. I absolutely got that. Yeah, you
think he's gonna bow out that gracefully get out of here?

Well, what about all that's left is the fall? How
you fall is a big deal. That's the only thing.
Here's what they need to do.

Though, if they draft a guy in the first round,
perhaps it can spur on greatness. That's happened. I'm just kidding,
but really it comes down to Johnson and Johnson and
how they feel about it all because that was the
power move that was made. I don't have, you know,
copious notes. I haven't didn't bug the franchise, but you

can't tell me it was all Joe Douglas going, Yeah,
let me bring in this guy and all his jackass
buddies to be my wide receiving corps. Oh and Hacket,
doesn't matter that he's no good, but let's have him
be the guy. Oh and we're gonna strip him of
his duties, but he's still gonna have you know, titles
and and still gonna be around the building as opposed
to being out on his ear like all of that.

That that that's not Joe Douglas. Yeah, don't be too sure,
I mean the whole thing. If Rogers plays well, there
will be a big push to say, hey, it wasn't
his fault.

It took him a while to come back from his injury.
There'll be a lot of push and and let we
don't want to rush because whoever they draft first.

That screw that play right away. Sure, and they'll be
told no because Aaron. But you bring in a new coach,
you bring in a new GM, they're they're both empty
suits again. So long does that guy's happen? Because it's
Johnson to him. But he's lost on But he's lost
so much, he's not playing well. He's lost so much
power that all he can do now is try to

hold on to what he has. He's the only how
that matters is the owner. The rest of it doesn't
matter talking everybody. Look at this point, he would love
to get out from under Aaron Rodgers, but he can't.
But if Rogers plays well down the stretch, I can
see a bit of a Hey, next year's transition. Anyway,
we have money that we have to pay to some guys.
Let's bring our young guys in.

Let's not go too crazy because I'm sure the next
GM is gonna come in and say, hey, I see
your problem. You put all these young guys out there
at quarterback way too early, right. You ruin Sam Darnold's development,
You ruin Zach Wilson's development.

We like we're gonna draft another guy. I'm sure let's
do this, and Wody Johnson will say, yes, yes, let's
do it that way. I'm don't close the door on
Rogers playing next year. I'm telling you don't. No, I
think he's still there, Like I don't think he's going anywhere.
I think it's one hundred percent to say. But again,
you're putting a lot of weight on what the GM,

new GM and coach want, Like, hey, would you like
this job? Yes, here's the rules of engagement. I got
him for a year. That's a free they'll care. It's
a free year. It's a free free we If we suck,
we suck. Okay, it's a free year. That's fine. We're good.

four different quarterbacks, that has found a way to navigate

roster except for that, you know that one position, except
for the most important that kind of where you were
force fed.

really good driver's test.

But if he gets let go, he has a new
job within twenty four hours. As if there's no you're
coming in. I don't care what we have the year, come,
you're our guy. He is a terrific head coach all
those things I outline that he does. He can bring
to a team. He can bring stability, he will bring
starting over, he will bring a plan. He will bring
a long distance plan. He will bring a plan to
get by if the quarterback position stinks. I mean, there's

no situation that he's faced with that he has really
failed on whatever the Browns threw at him, and they
threw a lot of him. Man, all that chaos, he
was able to say, Okay, we're gonna go in this direction,
We're gonna do this this. I mean, he's able to
tackle everything and and that's why he's so valuable.

I mean, two time coach, he does. You don't just
lose that over the course of a year. Now, could
your message get stale after a couple Yeah, I get it,
But this is still two time coach theater. So Jimmy
Asam wants to be crazy and say we need a
new head coach. Yeah, I'll take Kevin Stefanski. Give I'll
take him in a second, is sec no doubt you would?

But you know, to your point, last year you look
at the roster, and coming into this year, it was

out what you got at the wide receiver position, and
then you push forward and you made a deal. You've
made some moves and Djoku has been in it, out
of the lineup, all of that, but you look at
the roster that you have is still solid top to bottom.
Right now as we sit here, he is two fours
tied for the seventh best worst however you want to

term it, odds for the next coach to be fired.
Number one jug Peterson of course, followed by Matti Eberfus,
followed by Zach Taylor, McCarthy, Dable, Gerrod Mayo, which seems
really odd. And then he's tied with Super Bowls at
twenty to one.
