Speaker 3 (01:17):
What's happening?
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Bud Oh the.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Dream manw you guys doing what a crazy?
Speaker 4 (01:22):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Well, first I want to say this, what what you
Who was at your house watching TNF tonight was like
Schwarzenegger stallone?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Like who was at your house tonight?
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Better? Way? Better? It was uh Brett Michaels as you
guys know, he's a Jesus staple. And then Bobby by Jake,
Remember body by Jake, He's a legend.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Jake stein Jake Steinfeld was at your house today, right, legend?
Speaker 4 (01:43):
The best was workout commercial guy ever body by Jake?
That's my guy. That's my day drinking buddy. I love him?
Was he drinking?
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Was he he lifting tomato cans in your closet?
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Like running out there? I say, he's my day drinking buddy.
He drinks water. I drink okay. But but here's that
we put together. And if Bill Richards are producers from bots,
and if Sunday and Kieren, who's our our she leaves
our old crew and obviously my Wifebie Phil's life, and
then it's it's just listen, the common denominator of these
(02:17):
people were loyal. There's just loyal good people. Well kind
of the island and missed the toys, but we're loyal people.
Who's like so, But the thing was Brett Michael Katon
because he you know, so, I don't know if I
told you guys the story. So Mike Tomlin's son, Mason
is uh, he lives out here now and I have known
(02:40):
Mason's he was, you know, three or four years old
and he's gotten new music. He wraps his R and
b says that Brett, it needs to do. Be fair man.
And he's just come. We're gonna go so Malibu. Me,
you and Mike Tomlin son, Mason, you're a diehard Skaler fan.
He grew up out there in Butler, Pennsylvania, and he
used to go to you know, like training camp with
the data said, and he's just come talk to meson
about what the music industry's like. And he came and
(03:01):
we sat, we had lunch, and he said, in Mason's
you actually got it, like you got it. You know
what I'm going to have you opened for me in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Oh, there you go, what you do?
Speaker 4 (03:12):
So Mike Tomlin sung Mason opened for Brett Michaels and Pittsburgh,
July fifteenth. But that's like, listen, royalty is a dying art.
The art of loyalty is doing things for people. He
just you want to return. You're like, hey, how can
I help others? How can I be of service to
my friends and my brothers? And what can I do?
And you know you have no my relationship Mike Tomlinson
(03:36):
twenty some years ago and Mace, I love me. She
is such a solid kid, and like this is I
just want to learn how to not trying to get
in the cut corners. I just wanted to learn from
the best. And not only did he learn, he meant
he He made such an impression. So he's actually opened
for Brett. I think in five four or five shills.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Now, wow, is he still going to open for it
now even after they lost a night?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Or is Brett Michael.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
As a results? Then I took Brett to Steelers training
camp this year and he was like, like, mind you
last time he's been a Steels training camp. His dad
took him and they sat on the other side of
the fence when he was a little kid. So he
was like, oh my god. But the funniest thing was
me and Mike Tomlin and Brett went to his bar
(04:22):
in La Trobe called Dino's. And you got the head
coach of the Steelers there and the whole staff Danny Smith,
Arthur Smith roll there and then Brett Michael's there. Nobody
can give two craps about Mike tom and jab. It
was Brett Michael take a care left this dude out
a line out the door. So yeah, it was pretty
(04:43):
cool though. Man, just having these guys he got him
taken Bretta massive. But we ought to. Yeah, we had
a we had to have a a little u. We
had to have a group hugged for Brett after his
Steelers lost.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Hey, so what'd you take away from that? Tonight? In
the snow the Browns come back from win after it looked.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Like the well, here's a couple of things. Number One,
people were asking and saying, oh, like Kevin Stefanski to
lose his job, are you guys out of your mind? Like?
Are you kidding me? What the owner has handcuffed him
with over there? This guy is a he has done
it the right way and like he's learned step by
step by step by step. I met Kevin Stefanski. Originally
(05:22):
he was Brad Childrenson's assistant, like his executive assistant when
is head coach of the Vikings. But he he was
like he learned every step. But he's a great offensive mind.
He's a I think it's like for you to even
talk about firing an offensive mind like that when he's
not the issue clearly, you know, two time Coach of
(05:45):
the Year, and you hamsterring him with his contract and
you hamstring with him and and the rest of the
moves he made. I think it's absolutely absurd. And Jamis
cracks me up. I trained Jamis like three years ago
and unbreakable, and so I'm like, go a lot, you guys.
He like, I look at him, and you know, he
comes in with all this this crazy stuff and his
crazy talks and this and that. He brings the down
(06:07):
coach And I said, no, no, you coach. Got to
sit over here, man, I'll get to do this stuff
with you. I said, Jamis, We're gonna our whole point
of the way we trained unbreakable. We're gonna make it
the hardest thing you've ever done to make so pol easy.
I got you. So I'm like, we're gonna break this
guy in two seconds, and I love I love it.
Like guys you can break. Yeah, yeah, I've been cracking up.
But that's my goal of like I'm gonna try and
(06:29):
break you, hoping that I can't break you and then
build you up. I dude, we put Jamis through more
than we put most people through because of all crazy
other handscks, and no matter what we did, we could
not break him. Now that dude can work and we man,
(06:49):
we shared the hell out of Jamis too, and he
just kept taking it, kept taking it, kept taking it,
kept taking. And I'm like, oh, okay, I understand why
this guy was drafted where it was. But you know,
there's so much other stuff. I think that certain guys
that games want to be a brand too, and they
want to like you know, they want all the other
stuff that comes in with it. But at the core
of it, I'm telling you, we cannot break him, and
(07:12):
he worked his hell off. So in the end, when
you just go back to who you are, when it's
fork ethics, when there Todd's are tough, that guy should
rise up.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
And it has been Well that's the thing we were
talking about a little bit.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Jay.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
I mean, look, I agree me to talk of Stefanski
losing his job as absurdity, but it is Jimmy Haslam,
which means a lot of teams would clamor in a second.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
But absolutely, yeah, right, that's the thing. Like, look, we
talked about, like I've talked to you guys about culture.
Woody Johnson pro will never win. He's the issue. He'll
never win. Jimmy has them probably never gonna win. He's
the issue. Dan Snyder never would have won. He's the issue.
You know where missus Ford was great, but she's like,
you know what, I realized the culture of me, right,
I don't know what it is. Let me bring in
(07:56):
Chris Spielman to be that the ason for the president
of the team have a different culture, and that's when
things started changing, and he helped hire Dan Campbell and
their general manager is just like man. But when the
owner doesn't realize the owner is the issue, you're never
going to win. It starts with culture. Jimmy Haslam is
(08:18):
a huge part of that problem. Woody Johnson is the
main problem, and it's just how it ended. Like again, guys,
you know, like I think I've told you, like was
Sean Payton, I was with him when he got the
safe job, and there was no worse culture, and they
just and credit like the owners just didn't know any better.
And Sean went in wiped out about eighty percent of
the building and taught him how to be an owner.
(08:40):
And now they, regardless of their record, there are top night,
not top play organizations. But you got to teach owners
how to be owners. And a lot of these owners
and I've got really, really really start conversations with them, said,
just because you've made buildings and somewhere else. I said,
you know, I'm same conversation with all these owners when
you have Tomlin or Andy Reider, Bill Bellix like run
(09:01):
your business. Oh no, totally different. Okay, then why do
you think you could make a second round pick? Just
let your football people do it. But that's the problem
with the Woody Johnsons and the Jimmy Hasels. We're gonna
jump in and play fantasy football and try and find
people and ask you to draft people, and it just
will never work.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Hey, I don't want to let you go before tell
me a little bit. You had Tony Stewart on your
Unbreakable podcast this week, and it looks amazing.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Man, that was unbelievable and just talk to him. Listen.
I love getting just in the inside of the mind
of Hall of famers. Look, we call a Mental Wealth
podcast because mental health is not just depression, anxiety everything.
Success is the six inches between your ears. So when
I could learn what makes a champion in any field
and he was so badass, was so cool. Yeah please,
(09:48):
Tony Stewart obviously a you know, NASCAR champ any chance
like Hall of Famer. It was so sometimes you just
get with the guy who never met him before. I
was like, man, I can talk to this guy for hours.
Luckily what we have for an hour. It was really cool.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Check it out.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
The link is on Jay's Twitter page. Unbreakable a Mental
Wealth Podcast. Tony Stewart on Jay is always Buddy, appreciate
the time.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Man, We'll talk to you next. Thanks for the stories, brother,
be good out the story. How about that. I liked
that he got the phrase bang for the bucket? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah's pretty good. It was in there Smith.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Uh So that was a visit and a half from
Jay Glazer. Legend coming up next, we head to Vegas. Yeah, buddy,
take you look back at what we saw tonight in
the NFL. Some of the best bets ahead this weekend
in the big college football NFL games coming up that's
next Fox.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
Live from the tirerac dot Com Studios. Amazing visit from
Jay Glazer. I'm not that absolutely amazing visit from unbelievable
visit from Jay Glazer. Oh, outside of that Browns beat,
(11:16):
the Steelers SNAr.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
Nay yeah, wow, a little something.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
There, and the Lakers are playing huh yeah, you got
that going for you.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
We'll get to the Lakers last game of the night
going on right now. Lakers trying to stretch that win
streak to seven. Uh with the lead over Orlando in
the second half. But go ahead to Vegas. Take a
look back at what we just saw tonight between the
Steelers and the Browns. Look ahead at a big weekend
in college football, couple of big marquee games to get
to NFL.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Action on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
So with us is our man former insider for odds
maker at Caesar's check it out. How about the Board podcast?
See him on CBS. It is Todd Ferman. Todd, what's happening, Bud.
Speaker 6 (11:57):
It's a relaxing week for you over there. Smith. No
Jets game. You don't have to ruin your entire weekend
hoping that they're somehow going to get themselves back into
the playoffs. But it's okay what he made it all
right by firing a general manager, and they're going to
continue to let Aaron Rodgers make all the personnel decisions
to make the Jets relevant again.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Is there a board in Vegas where I could bet
on At the end of the year, we vote on
the biggest tire fire organization? Like right now, the Jets, Bears,
and Cowboys are all at the top.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
What are the odds on those three teams?
Speaker 6 (12:26):
I mean, look, you always have to put the Raiders
into that mix as well, but because they're perennial winners,
they always have the lowest bar to try and clear
to be that tire fire. So I think you named
three wonderful applicants for that. The Cowboys at least get
the benefit of the doubt because they're dealing with an
injury to their starting quarterback. The Jets and Bears probably
don't get a pass, but we'll see if the Bears
are able to salvage this season before Matt Eberfus gets
(12:49):
his walking papers, and no doubt, in typical Bears fashion,
they'll probably bring in yet another defensive minded head coach
to work with a young quarterback.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
All right, So first of all, before you get into
the big action this weekend, what'd you take away from
the Steelers losing tonight to the brown I know it
was in the snow, and it's hard to say. All right,
we'll take all of this into account, but here's his game.
Steelers offense looked very similar to how it did the
last few weeks. Moren't able to score enough points and
the Browns come up with this big win.
Speaker 6 (13:14):
You know, honestly, absolutely nothing. And the reason I say
that is because this is what we've seen from the
Steelers time and time again when it comes to short
weeks to this group, for whatever reason, doesn't seem to
perform to the same levels we see on Sunday. The
Steelers have historically been very bad in the road favorite
role because of the low variance game that the team
likes to play weather aside. I mean the Steelers didn't
(13:35):
come up with stops when they needed McKey junctions in
the game defensively, and you figure the offense had done enough.
The other big takeaway for teams typically that have checked
out for the season, they're always going to bring their
a game in divisional performances. I mean no greater illustration
than the piss poor effort we saw from the Browns
on the road last week against the Saints. Didn't look
like the same football team any more than the addition
of the Bears that we saw last Sunday coming up
(13:57):
just short against the Packers looked significantly more buttoned up
than the group that we'd seen get absolutely boat raced
heading into the buy against the Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
All right, let me move the ball to the right
hash mark for the setup here, Todd Army Notre Dame
fourteen and a half is the spread in this one?
Can Army do enough? And it is a different enough
look to get over here?
Speaker 6 (14:17):
Well, this game has been fascinating to watch it unfold.
In the betting market, price did get as high as
Notre Dame A sixteen and a half seventeen point favorite
before you started to see some Army money enter and
you have professional betters that are completely divided in this contest.
Army kind of has the perfect blueprint as a double
digit underdog to shorten the game, limit possessions, and make
the Irish really have to be ultra efficient if they're
(14:40):
going to win and comfortably cover the two touchdown tariff
that's imposed on them. Right now, you look at Army
on the other side defensively, though, and you wonder if
they're able to get the stops. I mean, strength to
schedule nowhere close to what teams have typically played at
this late juncture of the season. And the other thing
that I really believe is getting overlooked. I mean, this
is an Army excuse me, Notre Dame home game, so
(15:01):
Notre Dame controls the ticket a lot, and it's going
to feel like a lot of Golden domers in that
building despite the proximity to Armies campus. Should be a
fun game Saturday night. And look, if Army's able to
pull off the outright upsets, something I don't think they're
going to be able to do. Suddenly we're talking about
them maybe controlling their own destiny to get into the
college football playoffs. Something we never would have said before
the season even started.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
You know, you say that and when the being to say, Hey,
all the Army money coming in. I'm just picturing guys
like with medals and in their complete uniform dress, like
coming in with bars of gold. I'd like to bet
on the game. I'd like to bet one bar of gold.
I'm sorry, we don't take that, but it's a bar
of gold.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
I'm betting a bar of gold on Army to win.
Speaker 6 (15:39):
I mean, the good thing about being in this town, smith,
you can turn that bar of gold into cash in
about fifteen minutes, and all it takes is a click
Hoober rides to be able to make sure you have
the kind of liquidity that you have to bet with. Unfortunately,
during all my time behind the counter at Caesars, I
never had someone come in with a bar of gold.
But I did have someone come in with a grocery
bag full of twenty dollars bills that were crumpled up.
Lord only knows what they had to do to try
(16:00):
and make that kind of money.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
All Right.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
The other big game of the week, the big nude
kickoff on Fox Indiana and Ohio State. I know that
you know you cover this on the bet the Board
podcast as well as the Army Notre Dame game. I
really would love to see Indiana win this game, but
Todd boy, I just can't see them winning this game.
Speaker 6 (16:20):
I mean, this has been again another wildline movement to watch.
I mean, Ohio State got out to as much as
a thirteen thirteen and a half point favorite. Now as
I look at the odd screen, Ohio State just a
modest ten point favorite. Kind of the prevailing price tag here.
Indiana has the luxury of two weeks to prepare, so
you have to imagine Kirk Signettian company, You're going to
throw a couple of wrinkles at this Ohio State team,
both on the offensive and defensive side that the Buck
(16:42):
guys haven't seen on tape from the Hoosiers yet this year.
Ohio State, meanwhile, has been perennial slow starter, so you
wonder if that's something that can work against them with
the early kickoff. And look, Indiana, you know, in my opinion,
needs a win or a close loss to secure passage
of the college football playoffs. They go out there and
get blown I think it's going to be all very
sweaty Sunday in two weeks to see if they're going
(17:04):
to be included in the inaugural field of twelve. But
this who's your team? Despite playing a strength to schedule,
He's a lot to be desired. They've done what you
need to do against inferior opponents. They've left no doubt
They've covered numbers at a pretty high clip. The one
question I do have is they start to show some
vulnerability when they stepped up in class against Michigan in
terms of NFL caliber athletes that Michigan has, and they
(17:25):
weren't able to move the ball. But the other big
injury concern for Ohio State you lose your starting center
in Alabama transfer Seth McLaughlin and already the offensive line
was the biggest question mark that the Buckeyes had all
season long. So should be a great chess match two
outstanding head coaches, And if Kirk Signetti is able to
pull this off, he'll warrant the massive extension that Indiana
gave him. With the biggest win so far in his
resume against lowli Nebraska and Washington.
Speaker 5 (17:47):
What about the let's go to Monday Night Football. Let's
go straight to the heart of Justin prosperg the Hardbowl.
The Ravens given three on the road on their parents' anniversary.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Who wins their parents love?
Speaker 6 (18:00):
I mean, look, you have to imagine the Harbaugh family
going to have split loyalties. You can only imagine that
Frost has already sent mom and Pop Harball a Chargers
powder blue jersey to make sure that they're ready to go.
That they'll probably split right down the middle, half black
and purple, half powder blue and gold.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
When you go through.
Speaker 6 (18:18):
The number on this game, it's been interesting to watch
threes kind of turning into two and a half and
you have people on both sides of the ledger. You know,
going into last week, the biggest question the Chargers had
to answer is had their defense faith in offense with
a living, breathing, passing offense, And the answer was probably not.
The Bengals had tremendous amount of success in the third quarter,
just weren't able to close the deal. But the bigger
(18:39):
move on this game has been on the total. We
saw this number open as low as forty seven and
a half on Monday morning. We're now out to fifty
one and you haven't seen any real buyback here. I
think this game should have plenty of fireworks. Two offenses
in my opinion, that have huge mismatches that they can
take advantage of against their defensive counterparts. And you hope
that the Harballs want to let it rip on center
stage on Monday Night for what should arguably one of
(19:00):
the best Monday night games we'll see this season.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
All right, Marquee Game of the Day on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Not quite where we thought the forty nine ers would be,
but still forty nine Ers packers. I know this is
one of the games you covered the bet the Board podcast.
What do you like here?
Speaker 6 (19:12):
You know, big questions right now in terms of who
may or may not be available for the forty nine ers.
Brock Purty, of course, was a limited participating Wednesday in practice,
went through what they called simulated dropbacks, didn't throw the ball,
and earlier today started practice pulled himself out after about
five minutes. So that tells me that the forty nine
ers are probably developing a contingency plan, whether it's a
Brandon Allen or Joshua Dobbs to start in this game,
(19:35):
and the betting market reflects that with green Bay leaking
out from a one point favorite where they opened out
to minus three. The total is also ticked down as well,
from forty seven and a half to forty six and
a half. The other injury to monitor, of course, Nick
Bosa on the defensive side, wasn't able to finish the
game against the Seahawks, and you saw the kind of
success that Gino Smith had, not just because he's not
wearing a Jets jersey any longer, but because Nick Bosa
(19:55):
wasn't out there to harass him. So you do wonder
if the forty nine ers are just two beating up
to win in this spot. Jordan Love has talked about
how important this game is, knowing that the Green Bay
Packers let a glorious opportunity slip through their fingers in
the postseason. But at three, in my opinion, I don't
see much in the way of value. Can make a
slight case to go under the total if you shop
around and find a forty seven, because once brock Purty
(20:16):
officially gets ruled out, I think this total is only
going to move on direction.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
The bet the Board podcast where you find all of
Todd's work at Todd Furman as well Todd just really quickly,
any buzz at all for the f one or is
it dead? And maybe you get into the starting field.
Speaker 6 (20:31):
No, I'm going to throw myself into the belly of
the beast tomorrow, head down to the strip and take
in final practice and qualifying. But it's never a great
sign when the city has already forecasted about a four
hundred percent decrease in overall economic impact to Las Vegas,
and people I've spoken to early on have said there
is no crowd to really speak of, but the traffic
is just as bad, so you get the worst of
(20:52):
both the sides of the equation. It's still a marque
event out here though. Anytime Vegas takes center stage on
the global sporting calendar, it goes a long way in
the Strip will no doubt do itself proud given the
visuals in the spectacle that we'll see Saturday night when
they dropped the green flag for the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
He's on Twitter at Todd Furman. That is at Todd Ferman.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
That's where you get the links of the Bet the
Board podcast for all the latest thoughts on the big
Slaton college football Saturday and Sunday again the Bet the
Board podcast. The links right on Todd's Twitter page at
Todd Furman. Todd is always buddy, appreciated, my friend. We'll
talk to you next week. Enjoy the game.
Speaker 6 (21:27):
He always a pleasure. And one final thing, thoughts, prayers
and condolences to you Smith on the Francisco Indoor MVP
candidacy that died before it ever got out of the start.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
I thought he was going to be unanimous runner up,
like we can hang a banner for that, but no,
six people didn't want to vote for him.
Speaker 6 (21:44):
If the Mets are hanging banners for unanimous runners up
in the MVP, you have officially lowered the bar out
there in terms of what is actually meaningful in the
sports pantheon of achievements.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
Right there's Hey, when we signed Wan Soda the next
couple of days, I'll call you.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
I don't want to hear about it when it does happen.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
See you, buddy.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Here goes Todd for the best, joining us now on
a hotline a man who was one of the original
investors in Formula one in Las Vegasley. It's Steve de Seger.
He has what's trending. He also has no money left.
He also has what's trending.
Speaker 7 (22:18):
Anytime you talk about investing in Las Vegas, they comeback
as always.
Speaker 8 (22:22):
That's why they have all those big hotels. That is
actually why they have lost big hotels. And you mentioned
Baltimore plays Monday night at the Chargers. Chargers for the
one time this year will not be wearing the Baby
Blues Navy jerseys for the Monday nighter against the Ravens
and the Ravens will go to La wearing the.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
All whites for that one.
Speaker 7 (22:43):

Speaker 4 (25:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
She goes, hey, can we get to Vegas for Saturday night?
I want to go watch Army Notre Dame like it's
nineteen forty two.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
She goes, oh, I want to go watch you have
one race?
Speaker 1 (25:39):
Let's go tell you. Come on, I want to go
watch Lando. Mister inside, mister outside. How does Notre Dame
stop them?
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Four horsemen?
Speaker 5 (25:48):
Baby?
Speaker 1 (25:49):
And we will have more on the Monday night. Got
the Thursday night game? Rather sorry I jumped ahead, jump ahead, Yeah,
coming up in a few minutes. But look, big hardware
goes out today, not anybody's surprise, Aaron Judge, Shoeo Tani
or your American and National League MVPs. Each of them
wins it unanimously. Bobby wit Junior unanimously second in the
(26:09):
National League, and I thought for sure American League Francisco
Lindora thought, well, he's gonna be unanimous second place, and
we're gonna hang a banner for that, say no, five
people vote instead?
Speaker 3 (26:20):
Come on, man, really, come on, dude.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Yeah, pretty long tree going down there with the VP
voting in the National League yeah, there are a lot
of guys that got some votes.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Now the big thing is, let's take a look at
these two MVPs, because you wouldn't think they'd be that different,
but they are. Aaron Judge had a season unlike any
that we've seen offensively in baseball in probably twenty years.
You gonna go back to a rod in like two
thousand and four where you could say, boy, this is
that kind of season that that he had even in
(26:50):
Cabrera when he won a triple crown, and Sho Hao
Tani first guy to ever go fifty to fifty in
the history of the game. Now, if I say to you,
show Hayo tan and your first thoughts legacy, what comes
to your mind is is winning the World Series. Maybe
it's him in Decoy. Maybe it's his fiftieth home run,
Maybe it's his fiftieth stolen base. Maybe sure handing out
(27:14):
money covering that. But your image of sho Heyo Tani
is an incredibly positive one, and many things come to
your mind. Maybe it's him with the World Series trophy,
whatever it is, that's kind of what comes to your mind.
It's back for that month when nobody was hitting. There's
all of those things.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Man.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
Now and you think about Aaron Judge, two time MVP,
guys going to the Hall of Fame, maybe the best
pure hitter we've seen in pure slugger in baseball in
maybe twenty thirty years. But what's his optic and what's
his image and what's his legacy? What comes to your mind?
It's dropping the fly ball in center field in the
fifth inning of the last game of.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
The World Series. That is the signature moment.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Everything he has done in his career is great as
it's been home run number sixty two. When I say
Aaron Judge, you think of wow, dropping the fly ball
in center field and opening the floodgates to an inning
that saw the Yankees lose the World Series. He even
said after the game, if I catch that ball, the
inning ends at some point, they don't get runs and
we're still playing.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Now.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Look, maybe the Yankees don't win the World Series because
they would have to win that game and then again
and again. But clearly that was the moment that opened
things up. And it's a fly ball, not that you
catch nine out of ten times, not that you catch
nine and nine out one hundred times. That's a ball
you catch one hundred out of one hundred times. There
was no knuckleball action on it. He was coming in.
He simply took his eye off it and he saw
keythk a Hernanez. I'm sure he thought, I'm gonna throw
(28:35):
this ball to first base and get him out, and
he dropped it. And then two hours later the game
was tied and the Dodgers celebrating winning the World Series.
The Aaron Judge legacy, like it or not, the first
thing that comes to your mind when you think of
Aaron Judge missing the fly ball then the line drive
in the fifth inning of the final World Series game.
That is your lasting image of Aeron. Have that nineteen strikeouts,
(28:57):
Well this more than the strikeouts vision guy striking out
quite a bit.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
This is this is the big one. Yeah, those all
blend together at this point. Yeah, there's a lot of strike.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
Was the guy's you know, creeping up towards those Carrie
Wood type performances and stuff like that. But notice how
I pulled him out of the haystack because it was
an outlier through the career. But yeah, for Aaron Judge,
I mean I think of some of the sterling calls
the Judge and blasts and all, but also his duty
at the dropping of the fly ball, like there's there's
(29:32):
the record scratch moment of all time a guy who's
normally losing his head like, wait, he dropped the ball, right,
So yeah, I think that was the signature moment really
for the for the year, and it really defines twenty
twenty four campaign because that was the final nail in
the coffin, right, everything else that flows from it whatever,
it's a it's a first era of the year and
(29:53):
everything had been perfect, right. He did have a couple
of weeks stretch where he's he slumped a little bit
in the pace went down from hey, look he's on
pace for one hundred and eighty four home runs and
all that fun stuff.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
But yeah, I'm just.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
Curious in New York, you know, as they think about
the year that was because a lot of highlights, right,
a lot of big moments, him and Sono and one
of the greatest tag teams we've ever seen. Yet it
goes down in defeat. Do they blame the bullpen like
your dad, or do they really put a lot of
weight on Aaron Judge.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
H Well, I think they're kind of pot committed to
Aaron Judge. So I think, like my dad, blame the bullpen.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
But fans, I mean, look at what fans do. What
are we talking about in Philly? What are we like
all all across the board, across all sports. You know,
even the superstars are not immune. Right, even Philly fans
booed Mike Schmid at the end. Hey dad, what do
you think of Judge dropping that fly ball? That's the
bullpen's fault. It's the it was Gian Carlos standing with fault, but.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
It was still Garrett call in the game. Doesn't matter,
We're not at that point. If the bullpen's good, it
was only the fifth inning, doesn't matter, doesn't matter, We're
still We're still the bullpen's fault.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
I won't.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
But just thinking Aaron Judge's legacy, all he has done,
all the home runs he is hit, dropping the ball
in center field in the World Series?
Speaker 3 (31:11):
Did you make that added to his Wikipedia page?
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Yet?
Speaker 3 (31:13):
So that's first, That'll be line one.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Aaron Judge, great home run hitter, who had one of
the worst miscues in World Series history. Maybe just outside
of the Buckner play, that's what it was gonna be.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
Can we make a Merkele pulls boner like card for him.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Coming up next, we had a big hot take coming
off a Thursday night football keeper.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Right here, Jason and Mike Fox
