Lakers getting trounced by the Sons. In the return of
Kevin Durant to the court. Tonight, we watched Kansas and
Duke play a thriller, Kansas.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
With the win.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
There a couple of other games into overtime. Top ten
squads facing off. All these preseason tournaments, we saw Yukon
get beat again. We'll talk Danny Hurley and Villainy coming
up next hour. But Chris Blank, I gotta say positivity.
Whether it's the Emirates Cup or maybe there was a

(01:32):
coded message from the league saying, hey, you know what,
people are gonna be sitting on their butts for the holiday.
We need some of these stars to get back to
work because have you seen.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Our ratings at something good? Have they No, it's been terrible.
I gotta be honest with you.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
I have the hardest time getting into the NBA early
season because of the timing of it. And I mean,
I'm gonna state, we got a team now, we've got
a team for over a decade, and they're good. They're
good in the Oklahoma City Thunder. But early on, it's
just it's almost as if everyone's kind of pacing to
get past the turn of the year. We would always
joke that Christmas was to day when everyone started caring

(02:11):
about the NBA, But anymore, Mike Harmon, there's a doubleheader
on Christmas, So I'm watching the NFL. I don't care
about the NBA schedule. On Christmas, well, NFL said, hold
my beer, We're gonna take over for it. So yeah,
I know, I love some of the drama. It feels
like the better stories in the NBA are kind of
off the court right now than what's going on on
the court, because we just know this season doesn't really

(02:32):
get cooked and until February or March.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
So you and there's diehards.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
Listen, there's people that are screaming at the radio right now,
like I love every second of it. I have a
buddy of mine that that works over at NBA Radio
and he says, you had me at the logo. Everything
about the NBA I love. I'm just I love college
football and pro football, right and then I love Baseball's
Hot Stove League, and I like the Silly season and NASCAR,
and then all right, turn the calendar. Let's get into

(02:57):
college basketball. Even though I gotta give college back basketball
some credit, Mike, I've been all in, Like there's some
really good college basketball that took place earlier tonight that
kept us waiting and waiting and waiting for the College
Football Reveal show. And there's some good college basketball that's
going on right now. I mean there's the Malli Classic,
As I almost would say college basketball early on, YU

(03:19):
CON's got beat twice. Sure, yeah, Duke in Kansas playing tonight.
You got AUBURNA and North Carolina going on as we speak.
I would almost argue that college basketball has stole the
show here early in the season from the NBA. NBA's
all dramas storylines. At least we're getting good hoops and
college hoops.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Right well, but they're also giving us plenty of storyline
because you start looking at, well, who's the breakout player?
Right as we transition away from the longstanding tradition in
college basketball was I let's look at the coaches, man?
How many times? And I lost count because obviously you
and I do in the show and talking to the
guys here with Alex ty shirt are got Patrick executive producer,

(03:57):
and Isaac Low and Crown right we're having these conversations.
I'm not watching every second. I lost track of the
number of times I saw Ken Jong sitting next to
Mike Krzyzewski. They showed that a lot. They show I
stopped counting after six. I'm sure I missed a few
along the way. I mean, it was far greater than
any number of cutaways that they ever did for Taylor

(04:18):
Swift at Kansas City Chiefs games. Yet nobody's gonna complain
about that. Now if you storm the court, Skrzyszewski would
give you a stern figure wagging, no question about that.
Kansas with that seventy five seventy two win over Duke
as well the number one team rolling on. Dickinson, who
I think has been in college for about fourteen years,

(04:39):
continues to roll on obviously.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Yeah, I kicked some dude in the face and got
booted from the game as well tonight.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
Well things happen heat of the moment, pretty pretty dirty
from old Hunter Dickson.

Speaker 6 (04:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
Well, and you got a little hoops right now with
the fun of Auburn and North Carolina. That game's thirty
to twenty four with six and a half left in
the first half, So I mean, yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
Holiday holiday hoops baby.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
How all of that to say, we've got some great
ranking ranked matchups, right? We had that overtime thriller Alabama
in Houston earlier eighty five eighty Alabama gets the wins.
So I mean we're getting some quality, quality games, finding
some new stars in the making for the NBA. They're
finally getting them back on the court. But to your point,

(05:23):
the urgency isn't there. It's an eighty two game schedule.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
Yeah right.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
That's to some degree that that's been one of the
complaints about the college basketball season for years and why
people are like, yeah, yeah, I wake me up when
they get in the conference, all right, and get me
in March, right, you know, because I'm still just getting
into your hot stove and maybe I got a trip
to Arizona or Florida. But beyond that, we moved through

(05:48):
NFL talk. As we continue on Mike McCarthy, the embattled
Mike McCarthy. Now he's gotten votes of confidence from everybody
on the squad. This week they actually finally gave a
full effort in support of Mike McCarthy. Who saw that
one coming. Not me, I can tell you that, But
Cooper Rush goes well over three hundred yards. I mean,

(06:11):
just chaos ensues in one of the weirdest sequences of
NFL action that you're ever going to see with that
scoring barrage that we have. But in his weekly radio addresses,
as if he were the president in the forties, we
always seek the audience with Jerry Jones, and well, he
gave us an answer of what he's thinking about.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
Is it crazy to think that at the end of
the season we could be talking about an extension for
Mike McCarthy.

Speaker 6 (06:35):
Well, I'm don't think that's crazy at all. That's not crazy. Listen,
Mike McCarthy is one an outstanding coach. Has listened to
the game last time watching it and Hagman was talking
about and he's reiterated that several times publicly. This Super
Bowl winning coach, Mike McCarthy has been there, done that,

(06:57):
He's got a great ideas. Bottom line, is that no
place in my body language or anything else have you
saying indications about what we're going to be doing relative
to this staff at.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
The end of this year.

Speaker 6 (07:13):
And we shouldn't. We got a lot of football at
or six football games. That's a lifetime.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Why are you laughing? This was McCarthy's response to reporters
at his press conference.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
Crazy.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
I mean, we really haven't talked about it all year.
So I'm not going to start on a short week
in an important division game. But I'm not going to
throw away positive vibes either, So keep them coming there.
That's all good, but it's not something I'm really focused on.
It's the fun and exciting world of collegiate and professional
coaching of what have you done for me lately? And

(07:47):
what's good versus great? And when you have continued questions
about your clock management, end of game situations, and obviously
that playoff game last year still sticks in the craw
of many. Right, Jordan Love and his perfect passer rating
and the defense getting absolutely obliterated. You know there's gonna

(08:09):
be a fall guy. And you already got rid of
the defensive coordinator this year, Dax her You've got excuses galore,
but you know, when all else fails, you shuffle up
and deal. But for Mike McCarthy, it looks like maybe
he gets a stay of execution like Jason Garrett used to.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
Jason Garrett got a lot of stays of execution.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
It seemed right. I mean, Jason Garrett kept his job
after going four and twelve. Yes, he did in twenty fifteen,
and that came after what a twelve and four season,
because umber he was mister eight and eight for the
longest time. I you know, Jerry Jones has only made
one in season move and it actually worked. So it

(08:54):
kind of blows me away that he hasn't thought about
it with Mike McCarthy based on the way this team
has looked this year. They fired I found it, They
fired Wade Phillips after they started one and seven. Jason
Garrett took over and they won five of their final
eight games. You know, that's you would think that would
embolden you to make moves. But I guess maybe we

(09:17):
have end correctly because if you want to go back
to firing Tom Landry and only giving Dave Campo a
couple of seasons and the disaster there was Chan Gaily,
maybe we've like unfairly labeled. Jerry is a guy that's
impatient with coaches. I don't know, because I wish he
If every Dallas Cowboy fan I feel like I talked
to wishes he'd be a little bit more impatient. I

(09:39):
get it back to back to back twelve and five seasons.
But in that run, how many playoff wins did you have?
Do you have one under Mike McCarthy.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
But that's the difficult part of it, though, Chris, is
when we look back to get to that point and
when we look at the coaching in general. Right, we
do it with players. And I used this argument a
little bit yesterday, but I'll rehash it. The audience is
always changing. If you're with A again, thanks for coming back.
If you're new, all right, you're gonna like this or
maybe you won't either way. At Swollen Dome is where
you can tell me you love me or hate me.

(10:08):
At Plank Show you can tell Chris whether you love
or hate me. It's the idea that with Eli Manning
he got his two, right, we always count super bowls.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
That's what we're supposed to do.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
Right, outside of Jim Plunkett, right, pretty much all the
other guys that got multiples or have found their way
into the hall, right right, So sorry buddy, But with
Eli Manning, it's like he won both of those against
Brady and he went and did it yet out of
the other side of our mouth, and it gets dismissed
for his regular season mediocrity.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Right, he only had those two runs. Well, it's two
damn good runs, right, including besting a to that point
undefeated Patriots squat Yeah, maybe one of the best teams ever.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Right, luck comes into play all of those things they won, right,
they had the Lombardi Trophy. Meanwhile, on the other side,
you're supposed to keep telling me how great Sean Payton,
Mike Tomlin, Mike McCarthy and guys that won a Super
Bowl once upon a time are. I don't know that
we can have it both ways, like everybody wants to.
I know, the Burger King ad is, you know, BK,

(11:12):
have it your way, all that stuff. Not a sponsor,
but it's just contact sales. But it's the idea that
you know, we we denigrate it over here and then
we hold it up as like, well, once upon a
time he did have that win, it's like, okay, cool,
But when players have it, it's he got lucky. You know,
when you had teams that were set up with long

(11:34):
standing quarterbacks and stability, as McCarthy had with Rogers, as
Sean Payton had with Drew Brees, as Tony Dungee had
with Peyton Manning. All of that to say that, you know,
at some point the regular season, we've got to describe
a little more meaning to it, don't we.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
You would hope you would hope you would think this
to you.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
So if I'm understanding what you're laying out, Mike can
Please correct me if I'm wrong, But it sounds as
if you you're in this, you're you're with.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Cherry on this preaching a little bit of patience.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Yeah, I think it comes down to look and I'm
a full Hey, I'll carry Eli in. He's a Hall
of Famer New York. All of those things I laid
out right, But when we talk about coaches, I mean,
how many teams can't get out of their own way?

Speaker 4 (12:25):
I mean, you're a Raider guy. I'm a Bears guy.
Yeah right.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
I mean I just know in Chicago they're going to
get to run out their contract because the Bears aren't
going to pay someone to go away. So if you
believe anything that's been written, there's this shadow rumor that
Eberflu still has years on his deal that got added
last year. If that's the case, he ain't going anywhere
no matter how weird it gets, and how many more times,

(12:49):
you know, we're supposed to think back to hard Knocks
about how much we loved his beard as opposed to
what he does as a tactician.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
I still want to know where Alan Williams is.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
By the way, that was the defense coordinator that disappeared
under mysterious circumstances a year ago. All that to say,
how many teams get it and can't get out of
their own way and owners by just continually shuffling the
deck thinking they're going to get the next one right.
And for Jerry Jones, as much as we may have
made fun of the Jason Garrett, all right, he gets

(13:19):
another year and another year. What's the alternative? I mean,
how many teams really find that diamond in the rough
that it works, as evidenced by the same teams that
we're talking about in that very small Super Bowl bubble
every year.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
So what isn't then what is, in your opinion, a
fair amount of time to determine whether or not it
works or not.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Usually i'd go back to the timeframe of the old
college cycle. So certainly we've had enough here. But I
guess as an organization you have to decide what you
are right, And as a guy who's a Chicago fan,
I have to remove myself from the conversation because that
would assume that I actually have more than one year of.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Hope every decade.

Speaker 3 (14:03):
But for the purposes of the discussion, throw it out
to all right, and are we playing meaningful football? In
the final month of a season, check yes or no.
If the answer is yes, then we we've done our job.
Or do we look at what Jerry like, cause he's
in Congress with how he comes out of Chris is

(14:23):
you know it's championship, this is the history of the Cowboys,
whatever else. But out of the other side of his mouth,
it's about you know, the brand, the history you know
of the Cowboys?

Speaker 4 (14:32):
Just right.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
People keep coming through and we're doing well and we'll
find our way and all that other stuff. So it's
just that you know, what are you would you rather be?
The Marlins?

Speaker 4 (14:42):
Twice?

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Again, going outside of the sport for a second, to
try to make the analogy to where you're competitive like
the old Mike Tomlin's a genius argument to where you go, Okay,
you're you're good, but are you ever really great on
a year to year basis, to where a bunch of
things have to happen for you. Look at where the
Steelers are right now. Is Russell Wilson playing great football?

Speaker 4 (15:07):
No? Right? But they're winning, right? But will they win
in January? I don't know. History would tell me they won't.
That would be one and done.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Right, So like at what point do you change that
formula versus your squad, my squad into so many's lights
and so many others like it, where it's like we're
gasping for air or hoping to get to seven wins,
to where we're close to five hundred, feeling like we've
won the lottery.

Speaker 5 (15:37):
I think every single person, every single fan, is knee jerky,
and I don't think I'm breaking any news here, and
everyone's idea of success is different. Like you just mentioned,
I look at what the Dallas Cowboys have done in
the previous three seasons. I would be insufferable if my
team was that good, right, if they had three straight
twelve I don't care what.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Happened in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (15:56):
Now, Expectations change once you get in that situation. I
might have a twelve and five year In the next year.
If they're twelve and five and don't win a playoff game,
suddenly I'm like, we gotta fire this guy, right, things
that's whenever you're in the middle of it, right, So
I would say, you know what, would you also then
consider meaningful games?

Speaker 4 (16:13):
Captain? Obvious question. You're fighting for a playoff spot.

Speaker 5 (16:15):
Okay, so are the Colts playing meaningful games because they're
only like a game out of the playoffs right now,
but they're five and seven.

Speaker 4 (16:21):
Maybe it's two games out. It's got to be a
feel too.

Speaker 5 (16:25):
And I don't know how you feel about this, Mike,
but I get the sense that Jerry Jones is comfortable
with Mike McCarthy, and I think he's comfortable with what
he's doing. And I think people like Troy Aikman. You're
talking about Jason Cole earlier, talking about Mark Davis listening
to a lot of people. I think Jerry doesn't listen
to a ton of people. But certain guys mean a lot.
Their opinion means a lot, and I think Troy Aikman

(16:46):
is one of them. And when Troy Aikman is saying
he's a hell of a coach, I think that resonates
with Jerry. So I wonder if he's just really comfortable
and he looks at it and says, we had injuries,
We're at twelve and five last year.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
I like what this guy is doing.

Speaker 5 (16:58):
I wonder if that factor is into this as well too,
and that hey, he just feels really comfortable with Mike
McCarthy as his head coach.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
Dak believes in him. He's actually you've invested in DAK.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Right, I mean the one thing that you know obviously
the you lose Parsons, You had issues up front, the injuries,
et cetera. But Wide Receiving Corps obviously need another guy.
But the loyalty and bringing back Zeke fun story guy

(17:30):
can't fall forward disaster, right right? You bring in Dalvin Cook.
It's not like you paid him a lot of money,
but reclamation project doesn't work. Ric o'dowdell guy who's got
a fun name and occasionally gives you a small flash,
but he's not a guy that's your number one. So
if you had a reasonable run game to where you know,
even Tony Pollard wasn't world beating a year ago, but

(17:53):
it was at least a consistent runner receiver combo that
gave you options in a little bit of bout on
to your offense. Instead, here you are and look you
lose Dak. It all goes to hell anyway. Yeah, so
do you just get a mulligan and move on? But
the other question is always to be asked of all right,
if I fired this guy, amy finding someone better out there?

Speaker 4 (18:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (18:14):
Am I going to get somebody that brings us to
another level that we're not out with this dude.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
Right, and who would that be in the greater world?
A reclamation project coach of the past or the hot
young coordinator that you're wishing, wanting and hoping can translate to, uh,
the head coach role.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
So you know that's the that's the only direction Jerry
really hasn't gone.

Speaker 3 (18:35):
Yeah you he likes the old guys. By the way,
Wade Phillips actually had a winning record as a head
coach for all those that like to pay that's wild.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 3 (18:46):

Never too early or too late for Randy Newman to
enter the equation. Whether it's songs from Disney Films or
this classic, there are a couple of others that are
really great songs and classic hits, but for many a reason.
On today's radio, you will not hear Mike Carmon alongside

(20:29):
Chris Blank with you here Jason Smith Show with Me,
Mike Carmen, No Jason Smith tonight, Chris Blank in Instead.
Now we got our guy Bo Benson joining us here,
coming off of the huge news the Dodgers five years,
one hundred and eighty two million dollars deal. Chris Blank,
the two of you can commiserate and I don't know,

(20:52):
raise champagne flutes because that's what we're talking about here
as the Dodgers make another big signing the Sick podcast,
the Dodgers podcast that you do, Bo, I'm sure you
guys were immediately in a group tax go and what
the hell?

Speaker 6 (21:06):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (21:06):
Yeah, no, it was pretty funny. I just yelled Snell
at Moncey and Ryan and Ryan. Ryan laughed and Moncey
was like, wait, did they actually sign him? And so
I sent the Instagram post where he announced it himself
and yeah, Blake Snell's a Dodger. That's pretty crazy.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
I'm over analyzing this, Bo, because it makes me wonder,
are they concerned about not getting Walker Bueller? Is this
maybe I don't know is it a good sign for show?

Speaker 6 (21:34):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (21:35):
Should?

Speaker 5 (21:35):
I just accept that they use what nineteen different starting
pitchers last year, so they're just getting a little bit
more depth than they can afford it.

Speaker 7 (21:41):
I think the main thing you can expect is a
six man rotation next year, so they're gonna have to
add probably two arms anyway. But they've also loved Blake
Snell forever. Andrew Friedman, you know, he had Blake Snell
when he was in Tampa Bay. They tried to sign
him last year when he had no market, didn't work out.
They tried to trade for him when he was on
the Giants, which obviously was not going to work out.

(22:03):
So him landing in free agency this year, I'm not
too surprised that they they wound up signing him go
out with the big deal five years, one eighty two,
fifty two million dollars signing bonus. One of our guys,
UCLA Dodger Frank immediately quote this Blake Snell signing brought
to you by fanatics and the post world series and
bird spending frenzy by fans like myself. I think that's

(22:24):
a pretty nice way to encapsulate all of it, including
that sixty seven dollars get your picture with the trophy
experience that we talked about earlier. But you know, we
were just talking about this Boa and and you're around
and working with us editing producing tonight.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
The idea of.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
Well, you know what's good enough because Dave Roberts, if
this had gone badly this year, oh yeah, Andron Los Angeles,
a lot of folks, even with all the injuries, even
with all the issues like we're always the bride's maid.

Speaker 7 (22:52):
He went from probably being fired to he's a lock
for the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 4 (22:57):
Hall of Fame.

Speaker 7 (22:57):
Yeah, he's all He's going in there. He's a Dodge
for life. It doesn't matter. I think this is more
a signal. Last offseason was really funny because after they
signed Otawani and after they signed Yamamoto, the thing you
saw on line everywhere was like, oh, well, now you
have to win. You have to win it now because
if you don't, we're gonna make fun of you, which
a they already did twenty two and twenty three. But

(23:19):
now the Dodgers they won it. They won it, And
I wish I could take credit this for credit for this,
but I can't but well so former pitcher Dallas Braiden.
I believe he's a a's analyst right now. But he
had a tweet where he basically said that the Dodgers
have positioned themselves now as the premier team in Major
League Baseball. Yes, they scale anything. You can sign with

(23:43):
the Dodgers and you can win, you can develop yourself
as a player, you can make all kinds of money,
and you can make money outside of baseball. So I
don't think Blake Snell is He's certainly not the first,
and he's certainly not going to be the last. They're
They're not done. They're never done. They're always going to
do things to make themselves better. But it is, Ah,
it is kind of interesting to me that a Boris
guy like Blake snell is the first guy to sign

(24:03):
with the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
I'm wondering how much of that goes back. We talked
about it a little bit earlier, Chris the Montgomery and
all those situations as they went down last year. I
gotta imagine that maybe a little bit of that Boris magic. Yeah,
maybe that third book of stats and comps about how
they helped the parking revenue and such. It don't work

(24:25):
quite the same way that they once did well.

Speaker 7 (24:28):
And the important thing too with Lake Snell here is
that there's no qualifying offer attached, so the Dodgers don't
have to give up a draft pick, which you know
they love. They love to make sure they have all
their options available. So very very Dodgers signing here tonight.

Speaker 5 (24:40):
But an indication in any way, shape or form that
Glass now is going to be okay. Because what the
rumor was, and he might be Tommy John, I would
hope that they would have taken care of that.

Speaker 7 (24:49):
Yeah, No, I don't think he's going to get surgery.
It doesn't seem like he's going to because yeah, he
probably would have already had it. I believe dur in
the World Series he said he was feeling okay and
he was going to start throwing again soon. But yeah,
like they're going to the six man roation, like I'll
we can break that here now, don't don't be surprised.
Don't be surprised next year when they're they're trotting out
six guys in that rotation. Well, let's face it, given

(25:12):
the the number of injuries. So this is my bigger
thing for the Dodgers. It's like I did with the NFL,
and we we broached it when when this news broke
is just the idea of the Dodgers organization and and
in like self audit. Yeah, with the number of guys
that have gotten hurt coming up the pipeline and once

(25:32):
they're here where wherever they came from, right, internal guys,
guys they acquired, and suddenly there's arm issues, Like there's
something in your process that isn't working. Yeah, there's not
in the water, it's it's something else. There's there's rumors
that Bobby Miller may miss all of next year after
after being uh in effective this last season. So yeah,
they're you can never have enough arms, is what we've

(25:53):
learned in the last year and a half of Dodgers baseball.

Speaker 5 (25:56):
But last one from me on the Dodgers, just out
of curiosity. Do you think Sho Hay is throwing in
spring training?

Speaker 7 (26:07):
No, he might start ramping up in spring training, but
I don't think he's going to be a serious part
of the rotation until probably June or July. Okay, I
think it would be a slow.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
Building, especially if you're gonna go into the marketplace this early.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
That you also let him throw under cover of darkness.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
Yeah, like he was doing at the end of the year, right,
and all of a sudden it was like he's playing
long toss and like, wait, what it's like that doesn't
come out of.

Speaker 7 (26:33):
Nowhere, and it's it's all very much on Otani's schedule too, Like,
however comfortable he feels is what he's going to communicate
to them and they'll go from there. But he's going
to pitch. He's he's definitely going to pitch next year.
It's just a matter of when. I love the chaos theory.
See the silly season's begun for you, Chris Blank. It
gets you to think about something more positive than your raiders.
They don't I don't worry. They could still sign Wan

(26:55):
Soto and then we'll I.

Speaker 4 (26:57):
Don't know why. That doesn't do much for me.

Speaker 5 (27:00):
I don't know why. I don't know why. I got
I gotta change my mind.

Speaker 7 (27:03):
I don't think they will, but if they do, oh
my gosh.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
This is getting that. This would be getting another infinity Stone, Yank.
That is true, right, all right?

Speaker 3 (27:12):
You are thanos and now you're bigger, batter, and even
more purple. Like the purple shorts I'm wearing here in
the Fox Sports Radio studios.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
Fancy fancy, Well, I am the color of royalty that's
so paid for that Northwestern degree. Damn it.

Speaker 5 (27:25):
I'm gonna show that purple wherever I can. I guess
there's a part of me that just I love one
so do. Don't get me wrong, But it's like, I
don't want to be sitting here defending it. I just
like there's a lot of young guys that I'm intrigued by,
and I spent way too much time watching double A
and Triple A baseball because I got the Dodgers affiliates
right here in my state. But it just it almost

(27:46):
seems I don't want to say unfair, that's cocky, but
it just.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
It would be unfair. You can, yeah, yeah, unfair. But look,
it's the rules of the game. If they want to
change it us, there are no rules, right, hey, the
defying gravity. I'm sick of play by the rules of
someone else's game. Well change the rules, right if you
don't want this to happen, because it's always It's been
happening in some form for forty years, right, go back

(28:10):
to those Yankee squads.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Go back to what the Red Sox did. Now the
Dodgers are the big bully on the block and they're
not afraid to flex behind a giant pile of cash.
Oh and all the money that flowed in from Shoeo Tani,
that contract's already paid for.

Speaker 7 (28:24):
Yes, I absolutely believe that he's whatever Otani made last
year or whatever his contract is, they've already made it back, right,
I mean, that's seven hundred million dollar deal or whatever.
I know it's all deferred, but you can't tell me
with all the sales that they made, all the extra
asses and seats and different pieces from the celebrations and

(28:44):
on through the year, that they didn't already eat up
a chunk of that. TV rights deals signed with companies
in Japan, all of the branding in stadium, all the
stuff we had on our local affiliate AM five to
seven Ela Sports right, absolutely number of Japanese tie ins there.
So the money was flowing. So why not ask for

(29:05):
a little bit more? I say, if you can be
the bully in baseball, go do it. Until until Manford
changed the rules. He's too worried about pace of play,
do anything substantive robot umpires, Yeah, exactly exactly.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
Could not agree more, even though, even though in fairness,
I think the move to speed up the game did
help quite a bit last year.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
No, I'll give you that to a degree. But again,
I'm not sitting watching one hundred and sixties too basely.

Speaker 6 (29:31):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
I mean, well, look, we watch a lot of games, obviously, Bo,
you're watching a lot of Dodger games. I suffered through
a lot of Socks games, so the pitch clock helped
me some. But you know what they were. Actually there
was one point I found a stat that if you'd
stopped every White Sox game after the sixth inning, they
actually would have had a winning record. I think it
was through August or something like that. It's like, you know,

(29:52):
fun with statistics, right, lies damn lie statistics as you
go through it. But it's just, yeah, it's fun when
you get to be that team. I would love to
be that team. Yeah, And it's hate watching. It's better
for baseball. But back to that pitch clock thing, just
for a quick second. There's something to be said about working.

Speaker 4 (30:14):
Fast, right.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
Why we're talking about Hall of fames, Halls of fame
and whatever else. While I will always stump for a
guy like Mark Burley right, got the ball on the mound,
look at the years, look at the complete game, look
at all of those things.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
Whatever.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
But there's something to the psychological gamesmanship of I'm stepping
out of the box, whether I'm adjusting myself, whether I'm
Carlton Fisk behind the plate adjusting myself, or the pitcher
who's starting to get racked who needs a second to
collect himself. That we've legislated that out of the game,
that mental warfare has been cut down, which I don't

(30:49):
like that.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
Part of it.

Speaker 7 (30:50):
Yeah, no, I agree with that, but taking so damn
long with your mental warfare out there, throw the damn
ball on TV. It's better, but in person, I don't
like the experience now, But TV is what matters now.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
That's it. Yep, agreed. Get him on, get him over,
get him in. Take that soccer model. There you go.

Speaker 6 (31:07):
Bo.

Speaker 4 (31:07):
Tell folks where to find the podcast or where to harass.

Speaker 7 (31:10):
You can find us on all your podcasting platforms, YouTube,
on video you can see our pretty faces, the Sick Podcast,
The Dodger Zone, me Ryan Bershing or Monty Bolanos. Tons
of fun. We'll be back next year, hopefully to repeat
and I want to thank you guys for bringing me on.
Chris Plank, good luck on Saturday taking on those LSU
Tigers and get to seven wins. Oh man, the everything's

(31:33):
burning around. Brian Kelly.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
All right, wait before you go bows, here's my college question.
Are Notre Dame fans happier for the success of Freeman
and what's going on there or happier to see it
burn around Brian Kelly go oh.

Speaker 7 (31:49):
I would hope they're happier for Freeman, but I'm not.
I'm not super tapped in on how Notre Dame fans
felt about Brian Kelly, but I can't imagine it was
very positive. But you got to just be happy that
you've got Marcus Freeman in town, and I hope they
lose on Saturday. There you Fightsketch the Little USC.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Thanks, which is why I lobbed it up to you
at BO not Jackson in the Twitter verse. Thanks so much, Bo,
Chris Planke, Mike Harver with you here Fox Sports a
Radio from the Tirak dot Com studios.

Speaker 4 (32:15):
Now it's time to kick it.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
Over to our guy, Isaac Low and Crown with another
update of what's going on in our sporting Universe.

Speaker 8 (32:22):
Yes, Mike and Chris. The big news of the night
has been confirmed by Blake Snell himself because he posted
a photoshopped picture of himself on Instagram wearing a Dodgers jersey.
Multiple outlets reporting Snell's getting a five year, one hundred
and eighty two million dollar deal from the Dodgers, the

(32:44):
two times cy Young Award winner, And to just put
this enormous move in reasonable context, I thought I'd venture
down into the comments so wonderful underneath the picture that
Blake Blake Snell Instagram of himself in a Dodger uniform. Now,
last year, Blake Snell, of course, played for the San

(33:07):
Francisco Giants. So a Buster Posey tribute Instagram account called
at Posey posts commented and I quote, I thought we
were friends, Blake, you called me your dog on twitch unquote.
Of course, before that, Blake Snell played for the San
Diego Padres and at Padres Underscore region comment and quote

(33:30):
just fell to my knees at Walmart in my Snell
Padres jersey. Unfortunate choice of wardrobe for Padres Underscore region.
So with that in mind, at Jewel Exxt added quote
passed around the nl West like a blunt. Finally, at bees,

(33:54):
Gabriel posted in all capital letters, I might add and
I quote you were the chosen one. It was said
that you would destroy the sith, not join them unquote.
So the fans nice weigh in on Blake Snell's instagram.
Fourth set of college football playoff rankings revealed on Tuesday night.

(34:16):
Top four stayed the same, Oregon number one, followed by
Ohio State, Texas and penn State. Notre Dame moved up
to number five. Indiana dropped from fifth to tenth. In
the NBA Cup. Tuesday night, the Phoenix Suns blew out
the Los Angeles Lakers one twenty seven to one hundred.
College hoops on Tuesday night, Top rank Kansas over number
eleven Dukes seventy five seventy two. Duke's con Canipple missed

(34:40):
a game tyme long three pointer in and out at
the buzzer. Guys, I'm gonna go back and check for
more of Blake Snell's Instagram comments.

Speaker 4 (34:51):
Back to you.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
At Isaac Loewencron where you find him in the Twitter verse.
Mike Carmi, Chris Blank with you here at the Jason
Smith Show with me Mike Carbon from the Tirak dot
cop Studios.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
We gout.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
Next we turn our attention. We got to take a
quick swing by the NBA because one game just ended
and boy it was a bloodbath again. Is defense still
allowed in the NBA? We'll discuss next on Fox.

Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio

Speaker 3 (35:26):
Coming up in ten minutes from now, we'll get back
into the world of the NFL through the Dallas Cowboys
and some the latest lunacy from Jerry Jones. Welcome back
in Mike Carmen alongside Chris Blank No Jason Smith. Tonight
off for the holiday holiday holiday back on Monday, we'll
be back in full effect. Chris and Arnie Span your

(35:48):
in for us tomorrow. I thank you in advance, and
I thank you for today. I appreciate you. Yeah, man,
good to hang, always good to chop it up. Always
good to have you in the mix with us, part
of the extended family that we have here on the show.
And Chris, I mean you have expectations on Thanksgiving, right,
you know? You're gonna see the lions, you're gonna see
the cowboys. You're probably going to gluttonize not once, not twice,

(36:13):
but thrice on various food stuffs. And you're gonna be
salty if something's missing from the table. Right, yeah, sure,
absolutely right, there's just those expectations. Right. Maybe maybe it's
it's grandma's, this, mom's, that wife, girlfriend, you know, all
of those things. You know, whoever you are out there,

(36:33):
you know you're you're thinking of that one thing that's
gotta be on the table. And part of the equation.
Don't worry, we'll get to the MVP voting off a
survey that we saw a little bit earlier. But there's
expectations and that things are gonna be done in a
certain manner. Well, this was brought to my attention earlier
of well when things go.

Speaker 4 (36:53):
Wrong, but you decided fair mental damn Thanksgiving. Don't fair
mental thanksgiving?

Speaker 5 (37:10):
How you like that? Don't experimental Thanksgiving? That's right, you
do it on your own time.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
You want to get a recipe off the internet, You
want to get all crazy and add extra layers to
things because you saw it on the Food Network, or
you watch some TikTok chef have at it. That woman
was not having it, And I think that's probably stands
for a lot of households across America.

Speaker 4 (37:33):
I want my staples.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
Give me my turkey, maybe dry, give me my turkey,
Give me the overly buttered mashed potatoes to become a staple.
Give me my whatever version of stuffing. You got some yams,
some russels, sprouts, green bean castle, whatever it may be.
You just have these expectations of what they're and then
all of a sudden, it's like, you know what, today
this year, I decided to take a spin on this.

Speaker 5 (37:56):
I laughed so hard when I saw that, because my
I've got a fifth to sixteen year old daughter.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
Now, who that's her thing.

Speaker 5 (38:05):
She sees something on like Instagram or TikTok, and she's
gonna try to do It's pretty good, little chef, But
it's one of those things where if you try to
mess with how mom or Grandma does it and put
your own little spin on it, Mike could end up
in big trouble around here.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
Big trouble around here.

Speaker 5 (38:22):
Don't experiment on Thanksgiving that it goes for Christmas and Easter,
two very important eating holidays.

Speaker 4 (38:29):
No, there's no question about it.

Speaker 5 (38:30):
Right.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
You just have your expectations of what the menu is
gonna look like.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
Traditions, that's right, right.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
I listened to my iHeart Broadway Channel, one of the
many things you can get on the iHeartRadio app. I
sell this app like nobody else's business, Chris Plank between
the twenty four hours a day we give you at
Fox Sports Radio, all the podcasts, now the Music Channel.
When I get a music going, it's the Broadway Channel.
And tradition from Fiddler on the Roof we'll find its
way into my rotation. There are things that we come

(38:59):
to expect in this life and when they get pushed
aside while we lose our minds and certainly our food stuffs,
our beverages and our football on foot on Thanksgiving is
things we just have to have.

Speaker 4 (39:13):
And messing with mac and cheese? Man, why are you
messing with mac and cheese? Lesson learned, Yes, screw it up.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
This was something that had all sorts of eggs to it. Now,
I really want to see that recipe. But you want
to talk about someone who had been banished and exiled
for the rest of that holiday. O. Wait, I guess
that's a more interesting conversation than some of the others
that'll get people fighting this year.

Speaker 4 (39:36):
He's Chris, I'm Mike. Mike McCarthy Next on Fox
