Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Hoo.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Yeah, I gotta say I was wrong. You were wrong
because the beginning of the show tonight, I said, Hey,
Broncos win this game. The biggest story is gonna be
Sean Payton Coach of the Year. Look out great, which
we told you a month ago. He should be the
coach of the year and there's nobody else even close.
But I was wrong because boy James Winston decided to
make it all about him. I think Mike Tomlin'll have

(01:01):
some words for you. But yeah, four touchdowns and two
pick sixes, four hundred and ninety seven yards passing. Yeah,
no nuts, that's uh, that's Jameis Winston's career in one
game tonight. No, but I mean we cruised, passed the
over under which was only forty two and a half. Yeah,
oh yeah, I mean that was done. You were licking
Bill like you were baiting. You were doing snow angels

(01:22):
money time, right, you were doing snow angels and your
money for the entire second half. So Jameis Winston has
become the story again. Fifty eight attempts tonight, four hundred
and ninety seven yards passing, four touchdowns, three interceptions, including
two pick sixes and the third that would have been

(01:43):
a pick six, but Jerry Judy decided, Hey, I'm gonna
run this guy down because you know I got two
hundred and twenty yard receiving tonight. Now I'm a pretty
big deal. Now, of course car tackle, I'm gonna pick
Jubb closing. I'm gonna make this play when it doesn't
matter in the final minute.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
But this is Jameis Winston. Four hundred and ninety seven
yards passing. His quarterback rating was eighty eight. I just
can't get over that. His quarterback rating is eighty eight.
He threw for five bills tonight and four touchdowns, but
his quarterback rating isn't even average. Well, the pick sixes
will crush you, like it's a long, complicated algorithm and

(02:20):
formula and oftentimes it doesn't make any sense. Here. You've
got a lot of incompletion, several drops. There were a
couple where the receivers just kind of batted the ball
to the grounds, Like did you not like that one?
They're not spin properly for you. I'm not quite understanding,
but yeah, look he giveth, he does take it away.
But it's riding the lightning man. You want to talk

(02:42):
about it exciting from pillar to post because you have
no idea what's coming next. A frozen rope to the
sideline or the inexplicable. Hey, I'm at the one yard
line knocking on the door. I'm gonna get my backers
their money. Nope, there's a pick going the other way
to nobody in particular. Well, I'm glad you brought up
the pick sixes. Yeah, I'm glad you brought I mean, really,

(03:04):
there's there's nothing better. Well, no, i'm glad you brought
him up because Jameis Winston himself, following the game tonight,
says there's only one person that can help him not
throw picks. One person, one person that can that can
help him, not throw pick sixes. Well, I mean this
doesn't get back to our old he stinks. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

(03:25):
no no. In this case, there's one There is only
one person, one person, Jameis Winston says. If I get
help from this person, I will not throw pick six Okay,
which is great, right? The breaths like I gotta hire
this guy?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Is this?

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Is this like when he you know your doctor strange
and you go on a journey to try to find
some money or one person, fight, go fight, try to
go through the annals of time. Use the timestone or
the sole stone, whichever stone you want to use, sly
in the family stone, any stone, and why find the
one person that can help you, Like Captain America going

(04:02):
back in time. I found my love of my life.
I found the one person. Jameis Winston says. There is
one person, one, one person that can help him stop
just one guy. It's not Kevin Stefanski. You think it was,
but it's not not Kevin Stefanski. No, whoa whoa whoa

(04:23):
Too soon too. I mean he's looking for help from
the great beyond too soon. Uh okay, okay, well maybe
we should just play it for you. Here's Jameis Winston
from the podium a couple of moments ago, talking about
the person who can help him not throw any more
pick sixes. I know I'm better than this. I know.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
I'm like, I'm just praying for the Lord to deliver
me from pick sixes.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
I'm praying for the Lord of delivery for that is
the greatest quote in the history of football. That that
may be the most jamous quote. I mean, tonight was
the most jamous knight, that my be the most jamous
quad Oh, praying for divine intervention, praying for the Lord.
Let's hear let's let's hear that again again. So we
didn't edit this. This is not AI. This is Jameis
Winston saying that he's praying for deliverance from pick sixes.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
I know him better than this. I know. I'm like,
I'm just praying for the Lord to deliver me from
pick sixes.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
I could just see him at one of those things
on a Sunday where you know that that like it's
one of those big events you're looking for a revival,
and yet we're going to a tech revival. Well, let's
find this person that can't that can't stand, And all
of a sudden, they stand up and they're dancing, right.
They bring Jameis Winston up and they and they bring
up and they have a bunch of people in Brown's
jerseys and a bunch of people in other teams jerseys,

(05:41):
and then the guy touches Jameis Winston's head and every
throw goes to a guy in a Brown's jersey. Ween,
did it? We did it? He is cured. He is
cured from his big sixes. Deliver me from pick sixes.
You're really trying to throw up a James Brown? Do
you you see the light kind of moment?

Speaker 3 (06:01):
You know?

Speaker 1 (06:02):
It could be more like this, It could be more
like He walks into the walks into a church, slides
into confessional, open the door, says, hello, father, I'm here.
This is my first confession. Yes, my son, what can
I do? What can I help you with? Well? I
really I need to be delivered from throwing too many
pick sixes? Is this Jameis Winston? How about you just
throw to the guy with the same colored jersey as you?

(06:23):
How about that? Father? Aren't you to help me. You
think I'm not helping you, don't throw to the Broncos.
Throw the ball on the Browns. Guys. You know what,
I'm coming out, Hey, I'm coming I'm coming out from
behind here. Let me go talk to you. I'm just
gonna say this, you know, as the word of warning.
I'm gonna go Aretha Franklin from Blues Brothers. Don't you
blaspheme up in here? Okay, you know you start treading

(06:43):
on dangerous ground. But the good old Blues Boys brother's band.
But it's not. Hey, I gotta find the film. I
gotta find that guy, like just calling straight to divine intervention,
just saying that it's part of what I do. James,
I'm trying to find out how many thrown in his career.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
I know. I'm like, I'm just praying for the Lord
to deliver me from pig sixes, Jamus.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Here's PowerPoint right here. See this point right here right
herer point to that. This is the point where the
Lord would say to you, check down to another receiver,
check down, Jamis. You don't need to force it in
every single time, my son, and then you walk away.
That's it. Now, Remind me what year was it that
he had the Lasik surgery, because you remember he was

(07:28):
throwing all those picks and then I was like, oh,
my eyesight's better. Time for another one? You think I
don't know, Like in my cousin Vinnie, I think it's
time for a thick a set of glasses. Missus Loomis.
Maybe maybe he's he needs to recheck. I mean that is,
I mean, he needs some new contact lenses. I don't know.
Here's how serious I am praying to the Lord to
deliver me from pick sixes. That is throwing up your

(07:52):
hands and just saying I need help. I don't even
think the Lord can deliver that because after a decade, right,
twenty fourteen draft class, I mean, it's it's a deliverers
a lot and there's a pass. It looks like it's
ticketed for Derwin James, but instead it looks like it
hits something in the middle of the air. What are
you doing? And deflects to Jerry Judy touchdown Browns. Look
at that, Vince Scully calling this game? What are you doing?

(08:15):
Vince Scully calling a potential the Lord knocking the ball
out of Derwin James had enough pickchu yesterday knocking the
ball out of Derwin James's hands and into Jerry Judy's
hands for a touchdown. Get out of my studio. He's
really just trying to figure out the he entered the
shotshake salvation liathe within and he opens it up instead

(08:37):
of where the pick axe was. It just says, throw
to your team, don't throw to the other team. I
mean he was wearing glasses in his post. I don't know,
miss so serious, I am man, I'm praying to the
Lord delivered me from pick sixes. Yeah, it's a it's
a serious problem because he had a game get away
because he's auditioning, right, we're talking about trying to get

(08:58):
a full time job. We know the reagent class is
not very robots. Sure now there might be a couple
of guys that find their way out based on their
own ineptitude. Captain Kirk, who we talked about a little
bit last hour, grabbed the podcast download to give it
five stars. We'll love you forever. Listen to the whole
show as you go through. But you're not gonna have
a huge class out there. So for Jamis, the opportunity

(09:22):
is there in Cleveland with Stefan sy right those weapons,
all of those things, and the pick sixes might be
enough to scare them away. I don't know. Man. At
least it's fun. I mean, is a great leader in
the in the or fun? Losing games like this are
losing game sixteen to eight with Deshaun Watson who goes
eight for twenty three for ninety seven yard. I'm not

(09:43):
arguing for the reinstallation of Deshaun Watson. That ship is Saleka.
That ship is already sailed. It's gone. I was gonna
start saying that sting while we're at it, but I'll
tell you this the thing is, and this is what
this is where the NFL changed tonight. Yes he did
have two picks, right, but still you see how dynamic
Jameis Winston is. And are the Browns gonna get their

(10:06):
quarterback of the future in the draft this year? Probably not.
It's not a deep draft that anybody they do get
is probably gonna be a year or so away. You
had to pick in the top two or three to
get cam Ward or Schadora Sanders, and right now there's
a big fight to get to that top two or
three because Travis Hunter will go in the top three
and sold those two quarterbacks, but he won the starting
job for next year. And if I'm Jameis Winston, be

(10:28):
smart and stay. I get. I get the guys want
to chase the money and go someplace else. Dude, First
of all, don't go to the Raiders. Whenever they offer you,
just say no and hang up on them. It's not
gonna work. But Jameis Winston took him this long to
find a situation where hey, I can sling it around
the field and be Jamis right again. Jerry Judy, who
was just a guy his entire career in Denver, suddenly

(10:50):
is incredibly dangerous. And I treated him in fantasy right
before this happened. Yeah, the last five or six weeks
he's been everybody has right. Elijah Moore has been a
big PPR machine, so is David and Jerry. You lost
to injury. Wasn't available tonight, had and he would have
had some fun tonight too. You've had you got really
big weapons and it works and the team likes you,

(11:11):
and you've stepped into a breach and you've provided something
and provided a level of play that they have not seen.
Stay in Cleveland, figure it out, right. I know that
you're gonna They're probably hamstrung a little bit because you're
paying to Shawn Watson all that money, but they got
you in here for now. There's no reason that you
if you want to sacrifice a couple of dollars here
or there to go and come back, because you will

(11:31):
be the starting quarterback in Cleveland next year. If you
go someplace else, maybe it doesn't work out because maybe
you're not in the right system. We talked about this
earlier in the show, how difficult it is for quarterbacks
succeed because yes, you have to be talented, but you
also have to be in the right system. It took
Sam Darnold to get to his fourth team to luck
into a situation where he's playing pretty well. Took Gino

(11:52):
Smith a decade of bouncing around the league before he
finally hit a system that works for him. Jameis Winston again,
it took him years coming off of and cut by
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to find a system that works.
You can't just go anywhere and sign and say this
is gonna be great. You have to get lucky, and
Jameis Winston has to understand, boy, I got really fortunate.
The same thing with Sam Darnold is fortunate and Gino

(12:13):
Smith is fortunate. He's got to understand I am fortunate,
whatever it is. So I can stay here because they
love me here, I can produce here. This should be
my home the rest of my years in the NFL.
And I'm gonna start here as long as I can
keeputtingup numbers like this, because I'm not gonna I'm not
gonna turn my back to a guy that can go
for five hundred yards. Even if he does throw two
pick sixes. That guy's gonna start for me. Well, can

(12:34):
you coach that out? Take chances?

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Now?

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Obviously the second pick six was unfortunate, victim of circumstance, right, good,
good undercut of a receiver, balls a little bit behind,
and as they fall to the turf, he just has
enough space to be able to get back up and
have a running lane back to the end zone. So circumstance.
But all of that to say, he'll put the ball
in harm's way. But you're You're never out of a game,

(13:00):
damn it. The good people of Cleveland deserve some exciting football.
They haven't had this since Derrick Anderson was slinging around
in two thousand and seven. Maybe a little bit of
Baker Mayfield, maybe a couple of would be a big
plays by Johnny Manziel for a minute, But otherwise it's
been a long list of fails. I mean, we've watched

(13:21):
that Jersey It's them Bears, Jets, long list of quarterbacks
who've come and gone and failed along the way. For
Jameis Winston doesn't have a lot of competition. I mean,
you want to go to comps of salaries. Sam Darnold's
dead cap is like eight to two this year, but
the salary is like five, so it's not prohibitive. Maybe

(13:42):
you have to break him off a little bit more.
Because the Raiders are fighting for the basement, so they're
trying to get Shduer, who praises the same God that
Jamis is praying to to get rid of the pick
six that he thanks God every time the Raiders lose.
So it's the battle. I'm for them in their future

(14:02):
future occupational pursuits, YEP, NFL. Just Jane Jamis Winson becomes
a starting quarterback of the Brown Stay sign. Everything is
taken care of. That huge drama of Deshaun Watson will
either be the backup if he's even with the team,
or they tell him to stay home. It works. It works, man,
the brand you found your quarterback.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Yeah, that's not.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
I know.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
I'm like, I'm just praying for the Lord to deliver
me from pick sixes.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Throw lefty, then you throw the left arm. Maybybe you'll throw.
But he started with the great speech. He's like, you
know what the stages dun dun, dun, dum exit out
out a fresca exit, swollen dome. Hey. Right after the

App Apparently Christmas is canceled. Now, oh again, no cancel.
I thought we just rever Hansel reverse that Christmas is canceled,
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon live from the
ti rach dot Com studios, well more on Monday Night,
Football in the Night for jamis the most Jamis Winston

(15:36):
of Jamis Winston games you could possibly want to see.
Uh keeping trying, you know, in the first half he
was two touchdowns for his team to every one touchdown
for the other team. He gave up and second half
as well, two touchup bat Radio show, one touchdown the
other team. Well it is when you know your defense
is gonna give up points too. But you know, but
I mean, hey, for every two touchdowns I throw, I

(15:58):
throw one to the other team. Happened in the first half,
happened in the second half. He's consistent. I mean, you
go back to Beach Rock and two girls for every
boy two girls. Look overall, I just ridiculous numbers on
the other side, a lot of Drew. When we look
at bo Nix's I keep wanting to make him Drew

(16:18):
lock again. Sure, bo Nicks, he had the ninety three
yard touchdown pass to Mimes Sutton goes over one hundred yards.
But men, you want to talk about a bookend to
what was a crazy weekend. I mean you couldn't. You
couldn't ask for anything better than this to cap it
all off. No, look, this is an amazing week. It
was crazy. The game was drunk from the beginning. I
still feel drunk now. It really was something that's good

(16:41):
when we're only having diet coke, just to specify coke
so they understand. Oh but look, but outside, look the
three biggest names quarterback wise in the NFL this weekend.
Jamis is now at the top because of what he
did tonight. But uh, just really quick, because one plays
into the other. Uh. There were reports coming off the
game yesterday Aaron Rodgers potentially could lose his job as

(17:02):
Jets starting quarterback. Jeff Allbrick, the interim head coach, did
not give him the vote of confidence when he was
asked about a change. Well, we're gonna kind of wait
and see, which was like, wait, what You're gonna bench
Aaron Rodgers? Yes, because that's what needs to happen. The
Jets need to show the even more of a clown
car by let's bet when it doesn't matter because we're
three and ten, three and nine, it doesn't matter. Let's
bench Aaron Rodgers because we can have more people laugh

(17:25):
at us. Yes, let's absolutely do that. Just another great
example of just because you might be a good coach,
good coordinator, there's a whole staff of people to prep
you before you go into an interview room about what's
going to happen. This is a great example. You can
go to earlier videos making the Rounds that truly one

(17:47):
of the great sitcoms of all time. The polls warned
thing in Chicago, but before Obrick gets in front of
the reporters, nobody preps him on, Hey, this is probably
coming the next iteration of the Aaron Rodgers thing. I
don't know the season, the season's over, you're done, you're
not the head coach. Just don't don't make the Jets
anymore of a punching than they have to be by

(18:08):
saying maybe we're gonna bench Aaron Rodgers. Okay, that's just stupid. Now,
they did decide today, and Jeff Elbrick did come out
and say Aaron Rodgers is our guy next week. Okay,
but why was yesterday such a big deal. Why is
his plan to the guy we're gonna talk about next
after yesterday, I now there's no doubt in my mind.
By Christmas, shortly after, Aaron Rodgers will announce this is

(18:32):
his final year in the NFL. Okay, you come off
a bye, says, he feels great, and what do we
get the same Aaron Rodgers from the past few weeks
where he still looks skittish in the pocket, He can't
throw the ball deep, he throws the ball early. He's
just not the same guy. And the offense is terrible,
and with all these weapons and he can't even throw
for two hundred yards. He knows it's over. When that

(18:53):
came up yesterday, when that came up as a question,
hey do you think you're gonna crowd? They went to
him saying, hey, Jeff Albrick wouldn't commit to his quarterback.
He said, well, if that's what coach is thinking, you
know what, we'll have a comp Well, I'll talk about it.
It's all good. Don't worry about it. When I heard
that from Aaron Rodgers, that told me he knows it's well.
Follow up question, should have you already retired in your mind? Yeah,
he knows it's over. He knows. He knows. The obvious

(19:16):
layup follow up is like, are you done? Yeah, But
he wants to make money. He tried to, but he knows,
and he's not someone that's gonna say no, I'm gonna
make you cut me so I can make all this money.
He wants to retire on his terms. He's not gonna
go out that way. He and the Jets will figure
out the money. And this is it because he knows
after yesterday, this is this. I can't do it anymore.

(19:38):
For whatever reason. I tried, I waited, I came back
a year. I just can't do it. And I know
it's the Jets or nobody. And the Jets are already
looking at me saying, dude, you're gone. Man, you are
absolutely gone. We are not if they're talking about potentially
benching you, they're not gonna say, hey, things are great,
come back next year and let's take another run at it.
I told you one of two things gonna happen. He's
just gonna play great down the stretch and open the
door for next year, or he was gonna realize he

(20:00):
can't do it anymore. Trust me, he knows that he's done,
whether he announced it on Pat McAfee's show or not,
or what right around Christmas he will. I want to
control the storyline and say this is it. I've given
the Jets. I'm going to give everything I have in
these last two weeks, the last quarterback, last football IM
ever going to play. I'm excited about it, and I'm
excited to go through things, but that this is going
to be it for me. I have no doubt that

(20:21):
that's what's going to do. Yesterday was such a big
telling moment for that. What do you need to do?
What's that you need to pray to the Lord to
deliver you from the Jets. I don't think he's listening
to that. He hasn't listened for forty years. Forty years
listening no, no, no, no, to turn away from the Jets. See,

(20:41):
I tried, behind, I tried. So look, so there's your
first one. We got to go find you that that help.
But you got the Dolphins, then a road game against
the Jaguars, then you got a home game against the Rams,
and then you finish up Divisional at Buffalo and with
Miami at home. He's going to He's going to Miami

(21:03):
it'll be cold. Yeah, look that that'll be it. It's
good that he can play at home against Miami again.
Miami is up and down. Come on, people are mad
he's gonna wear those capri pants and suddenly what's gonna happen?
But I have no doubt. Yesterday, that's what the big deal. Yes, obviously,
the Jets playing such an embarrassing game. It was every
Jets game for the last forty years, really bad mistakes,

(21:25):
awful penalties, and the coup de gras, a former player
from the team coming back and having a huge day. Oh,
and Mark Sanchez in the booth. Yes, And when sants
in the booth, I'm like, this game is not gonna go. Well,
it's now I say this, and knowing that he's going
to retire, because that that's going to be it. Now,
there's no doubt after you when you answer yeah, if
he's thinking that we'll have a conversation, that's the the

(21:48):
bold and smug Aaron Rodgers has gone at this point
like it's gone like all all the criticism, Oh, he's smug,
he likes to talk. He's not backing it up. No,
he was pretty much. He was very reticent. He was
very understanding of I thought this would be different. I
thought yesterday would go differently, and it just happened. I
really was waiting for the one letter and what are
you going to do? What can you do now? I

(22:10):
say that because I guarantee you the Jets will be
first in line to try to trade for Trevor Lawrence
in this offseason. I know Frank Gore screwed us by
winning that game, But after yesterday, and first of all,
big thoughts out to Trevor Lawrence after that incredibly awful
dirty hit he received. H He had a big statement

(22:32):
tonight from home. He and his wife said, Hey, thank
you so much for all your thoughts. Everything is good.
I'm feeling good. He had an exchange with people on
social media. Yeah, so it's good. Trevor Lawrence is doing okay.
At this point, if you're the Jaguars, you have a
couple of things to think about. One, do you need
to put them back on the field this year?

Speaker 3 (22:50):
No?

Speaker 1 (22:50):
Your team is terrible, and you would you worry about
the message you're sending to the locker room. No, because
Mac Jones is a pretty good backup quarterback. The guy's
been okay. You know, just saying, Hey, we're gonna throw
a guy out there who's never been any good. You know,
we don't even know if he can throw the ball. Well,
you almost got you to a w. We're not putting
Nathan Peterman or David Fails out there, so I mean,
you know that's that's not gonna happen. So okay, but

(23:14):
looking ahead, I am not gonna be surprised if this
is the last game he has played for the Jaguars,
because he is a middle of the pack quarterback. That's
kind of where he is, and the Jaguars are not
going anywhere, and they gave him a lot of money,
and they paid him as a top three, top four
quarterback in the NFL when he's really maybe a top
fifteen quarterback, and so your team is not going anywhere,

(23:37):
and now you're stuck with all this money you have
given a quarterback. You're gonna pick really high in the draft,
maybe high enough to get a quarterback. But how are
you gonna make it work. You've tried many different inventions
of the team and incarnations of the team with different
weapons around him, and it hasn't worked. You had the
one playoff win over the Chargers that you have for
four years of Trevor Lawrence. Right, you have the one

(23:57):
playoff win. This is gonna be an off season in
which the quarterbacks available aren't gonna be great. The best
free agent quarterback is Sam Darnold. And yes, Kirk Cousins
will be available in trade, but at this point, what's
Kirk Cousins gonna bring you? The Falcons just be happy
if someone takes that contract off their hands. Trevor Lawrence

(24:18):
is still young enough, he's been paid, so you know what. Okay,
you go into it saying, okay, this is his contract
now for the next few years. We know what we're paying,
and we can we can go accordingly rather enough to
worry about what a guy wants, but we're gonna have
to pay him what the market's gonna do. So you
have that knowledge, and especially when you have a lot
of teams that are gonna go back and say, boy,

(24:39):
this guy was unbelievable coming out of college. Maybe it's
just taken him a little He needs to change a
scenery to find his way, because we've seen Sam Darnoald
Geno Smith, Jameis Winston. Guys take a little bit of
time before they find the right place where they can flourish,
and teams are gonna say, we're that place for Trevor
Lawrence because he's only twenty five years old. We're that place.

(25:01):
We're gonna make a move for him. The Jets will
be the top of that list. Other teams will be
the top of that list, and if on the Jaguars,
I kind of have to move on. I kind of okay.
You know, we drafted you number one overall, we had
five years, it didn't work. We need to do something
over again. We'll probably have to start the new quarterback
clock over. So yes, we'll trade Trevor Lawrence. I really

(25:21):
I don't know that the Jaguars have any other choice
but to do that, well, well, you're resetting the organization
most likely, right with what Doug Peterson's been And look,
he's not inspired a whole hell of a lot of
confidence in his remarks the last few weeks. He sounds
like a guy resigned to his fate. Trent Balkey's a disaster.

(25:42):
Did sign left tackle Walker Little do an extension? So
you at least have that. You drafted Brian Thomas, So
there's another guy. Ingram has regressed after his huge season
a year ago. You're running backs are Jags and you
no pun intended and you still need some offensive line help.
All that to say, you're resetting those for Lawrence. If

(26:05):
the contract as I read it on this spot track
is right, you're not getting hammered for this new extension
for a couple of years. Right, you got your signing
bonus and whatever else. But in terms of cap hits,
you're three or four years off before it really really
hammers you to the point of a seventy eight million
dollars uh, kind of dead cap money situation before the outs.

(26:28):
So it's palatable, right, it's passable. Can you keep him
healthy and you surround passable for other teams to take
him as well. You'll figure out the money. Hey, we
want to keep you again and extend you cause you've
been really good. Let's figure out this money the last
couple of years, rip this up, do some kind of extension.
But also, like I guess, it's the decision. Do you
like Mac Jones enough to make him your guy? Right?

(26:50):
If that's the case, No, No, No, I think Matt
Jones would be the bridge because they would they would
draft a quarterback. No, But again it goes back to
where where are you're drafting? Are you finishing as a
top two or three to get one of those guys?
We are we reaching, you know, for the next generational
quarterback like so many before. See what I did there?
I made it's circular to Trevor Lawrence himself because he
was that year's generational guy, just like she doers this year. Yes, guy,

(27:15):
And I'm not saying that suddenly he's gonna be incredibly good,
but the potential for him to still be good because
teams will go back to what he wants coming out
of the plums and they and again they will say
sometimes it takes quarterbacks a little bit ways, but mainly
it's about where Trevor Lawrence fits in the landscape of
quarterbacks who are gonna be available this offseason? If you're

(27:35):
going back a year, how and it's the same exact situation,
how much are people gonna want Trevor Lawrence? Way? But
I need a quarterback. But I'm gonna go get Michael Pennix,
I'm gonna get go get bon Nicks. I'm gonna go.
When there's too many guys available, he's gonna fall down.
But when you're when you're only looking at two quarterbacks
going and maybe in the first round, in the top five,

(27:56):
after Sanders and cam Ward, and then you're in the
Carson Becks of the world. Who are gonna be in
the second round and later? Okay, it's it's not great.
And the and the free agent situation, Okay, that's not
great either. Lawrence will be the number one guy available. Yeah,
but the question becomes, what do I gotta give up
to get him? You're you're taking that contract. It's not
gonna be that much. It's not it'll be it'll be

(28:17):
a se it'll be a second and a third. Maybe
you're not there and you're taking on that contract. It
won't be that much. You're not You're not get out
to your first round pick. It's a lot of money.
Fifty million dollars fifty five million dollars a year is
a lot of money. So as long as you get something,
the Jaguars say, listen, just we just need something that
will make us, that'll make us safe face a little bit.
And maybe it's a second and the third or a

(28:37):
second two years in a row. But that's kind of
where it's gonna be. You're not gonna get a first
round pick for him because the guy hasn't flashed enough. Yeah,
I guess just the other side from the Jaguars. Is
that enough to get you over? Or do you let
you start again? You got started again, but is getting
rid of your GM and and your head coach maybe enough.
You're gonna be playing London in a couple of years.

(28:57):
What does it mean if they're gonna get Bellichick? What
is it You're gonna Belick shows up and mac Jones
goes come on, No no no, Steve coroll me no no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no no. I'm just going to the same old rule
like we have with coaches. If I'm gonna fire a guy,
I better damn well no, I can get someone at

(29:18):
least to the same level. No, no, no, is what
the Jets are gonna say. When Rex Ryan comes back? Dude,
why not? Why not kill?

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Why not? Why going to kill myself?

Speaker 1 (29:29):
Start looking your female We're gonna stink anyway. Why not
go get Rex? Why does it matter? We'd be embrace
being the clown show embrace it. I mean, come on.
Jason Cole is part of the committee deciding what the
Jets future is thirteen. Yeah, we gotta talk to him
this week about that. Yeah, we gotta gotta last week
and he he just started laughing. I gotta get on
a cat. We didn't really get a full response because

(29:51):
I'm like, all right, you used up your response time
by laughing. Thanks, Toddy Johnson, you're on with Mike Tannemu
and uh Jason Smith from Fox Sports Radio. All right,
Jason Gimming, Hey, whatdy can you hear me? You stik,
you sneak?

Speaker 2 (30:05):
What's it to me?

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Let me hire the guy? You know. That's how I'm
convinced that Eberflus actually got fired in Chicago. Is that
George McCaskey when he was hanging around the tailgates accidentally
or purposefullet gave one or two fans in number. It
ended up on some Reddit thread then they started barraging.
That's my theory as to how that finally came to
a head. Hey, look at all the angry people, because

(30:28):
it was all about the fans. Time now to find
out what's trending in the wide world of sports. Were
man who really might be the next head coach of
the Jets. It's Steve to say, Hey, Jets, shoe what's
your first decision? You're I hire you right now. Your
friend rode it out a napkin and walked away like Belichick,
My first decision is to send Woody Johnson to England
after all. Okay, very good stand out of town. Okay.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
By the way, the Jets can be eliminated from playoff
contention for a fourteenth straight season.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
With a loss this week at Miami.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
The record since the merger is seventeen straight years without
the playoffs. That would include the Cleveland Browns history, which
up through nineteen twenty nineteen, not that far ago, had
a seventeen year streak. The Browns were losers at Denver tonight,
forty one thirty two. This year's Cleveland team now three
and nine, just one road win. Jerry Judy X of

(31:18):
Denver did have nine catches two hundred and thirty five yards,
including a seventy yard TD over nine hundred and fifty
combined yards in this game. But the Broncos an eight
and five, get the record, the get the win, and
looking at that record, eight and five right now puts
them at the last playoff spot in the AFC, But

(31:38):
it's only a half game back of the Chargers who
have to play at Kansas City this Sunday night. Remember
that game that was flexed to a Thursday in mid
December Broncos at Chargers Jamis Winston tonight and the lost
four touchdown passes, three interceptions, including two pick six. Is
Nick Chubb of the Browns nine carries just twenty one
yards rushing. You did have one catch Denver's on a bye.

(32:02):
Now no teams were on a bye Thanksgiving weekend six
where the previous weekend, and now six other teams will
be on a bye this weekend. Thursday night, it'll be
Green Bay at Detroit. Lions have won ten straight. They
averaged thirty four points a game, best in the league.
Detroit signed safety Jamal Adams officially today.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
Now.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville quarterback is still in concussion protocol, so
is Packers wide receiver Romeo Dobbs, but he returned to
limited practice today again before a Thursday matchup. Forty nine
Ers running back Christian McCaffrey will miss at least six
weeks with the spring PCL, so he's likely out for
the season. The Seahawks cut returnman Leviscus Janald, usc quarterback

(32:41):
Miller Moss is transferring in the NBA. Easy wins for
Boston and Chicago and for Minnesota, which beat the Lakers
one oh nine to eighty. D'Angelo Russell of LA had
twenty points. The rest of the team from three point
range was two for twenty six Lakers with twenty turnovers.
Atlanta sent New Orleans to a ninth straight loss, one

(33:02):
twenty four to one to twelve. De Jonte Murray exhibit
Atlanta two of fifteen shooting for the floor. In men's
college hoops No. Top twenty five games. Tonight Tuesday Syracuse
at Number three Tennessee and tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
Le McCord will have a big night for Syracuse tomorrow,
you just show it.

Speaker 4 (33:20):
And Greg paulis as for the daytime tomorrow. US women's
soccer as its final exhibition of the year. Tomorrow they're
at the Netherlands. US women still unbeaten this year with
the new coach. Emma Hayes back to you, Thank you,
stevea like.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
I'm just praying for the Lords to deliver me from
pig sixes.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
Jameis Winston Prophet uh coming up next. Big final thoughts
on Jamison that quote plus the great and terrible news
for the next MVP of the NFL, Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. Now,
before we get any further, let me just say this,
big ups and congrats to Curtis High School, Staten Island
winning the New York City championship there seventh overall about
that double overtime win over Erasmus. When I played, and
we played Arrasmas every week, were the two worst teams

(34:21):
in the city. We were the worst team in Staten Island.
They're the worst team in Brooklyn. We played beginning of
the year of them. Now that the two biggest powerhouses
my high school. Did they buy players yesterday at this point? Probably? Sure?
Why not?

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Right?

Speaker 1 (34:33):
Yeah? They would buy and say sandwich, Jason, would you
play for a sandwich? Yeah? Sure, sandwich? Sandwich? Uh, some
punch card like only time, I'll give you a subway
punch card that has four punches on it, so you
just need one foot long to get you for a
free half and then you walk down the street and
you you found a whole puncher. I will give you

(34:54):
the subway stamp that allows you to just stamp that
card all the way through. Yeah. Now you're talking Warriors City,
right right. Uh So here's the good and terrible news
for the next MVP of the EDFL. You're calling Josh Allen.
You're you're saying, he's a gone dude. He just got engaged,

(35:15):
and that's great. It was a great day and all
the Josh. Yes, it was a great picture of him
diving into the end zone yesterday. Yes. Yes. The two
front runners for MVP or Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley.
And Barkley's gonna win because he's gonna break Eric Dickerson's
all time rushing record. He's got to do it in
sixteen games, right, because that's when Dickerson said he's got
to do in sixteen games and he's gotta wear goggles,

(35:36):
but he needs six hundred yards in the final four
games he breaks that record. He's the I don't care
what Josh Allen is. He breaks that record, he's the MVP.
That's the great stuff. For Saquon Barkley, he's marrying into
the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yeah, he kind of it. He's
kind of a big deal. So in the next in
the next Deadpool and Wolverine movie, he'll get to be
a different dead He might show up, Hey it's Josh,

(35:57):
It's Deadpool, Josh Allen. He's like throwing random stuff at people.
He's got the Deadpool uniform with number seventeen. Yeah, why
not Part three, let's go. So that's the great news
because Bart he's got fifteen hundred yards already. This is
the kind of end He's gonna play all the way
down the stretch because the Eagles they want to be
at home more than anything in the world. You do

(36:17):
not want to go to Detroit and play that NFC
championship game. You do not want to play on the road.
You want Detroit in the cold to come to you
in the middle of January. So he's gonna play all
the way till the end because be the team don't
have a lot of losses on the schedule coming up. Yeah,
I mean that was big for Saquon Barkley's MVP candidacy
and for fantasy owners down the stretch that only need
to play meaningful football. You know, the Bears collapsing as

(36:40):
they did in that comeback effort against the Lions on
Thanksgiving Day. It was a nice gift because now the
Eagles continue to be motivated to push and thrust in
every one of those games has that much more meaning
and juice towards trying to win that number one seed.
So that'd be good to get outdoors. But yeah, you're
your guy bar getting it done. But there were expectations

(37:02):
for this team, especially because we knew Dallas would stink.
We knew the Giants would stink. But he's in Washington,
is outperformed, but he's but he's also galvanized and brought
them together like he's like, remember going to the season,
it was Sirianni hates hurts, hurts, hate, Sirianni. Who's gonna
get let go? Is Sirianni gonna make it through the year?
They wanted to fire the guy. Now it's like Squan's

(37:22):
our guy. Thinks the other universe like a Yogi or
a sham and he's come in. It's like, oh, we're
follow me, yes, follow Suon Barkley. He brought the whole
team together. You got an obsession with Shaman today, What
did you do over your holiday, you go climb the
mountain or what. Now, here's the dark side for the Eagles,

(37:42):
and this is unavoidable. He's gonna end up with north
of three hundred and fifty touches. He's at three two
seventy five right now. He's gonna blow past his season
high and he's gonna finish with one hundred some odd
more touches. He's going to run out of gas on
the playoffs. There's nothing you can do about it's going
to happen. So if you're the Eagles, you don't have

(38:03):
to hope that Okay, Hurtz, brown Smith can all get
it done offensively, because you're gonna have to change that
offense because there's nothing you can do. This is why
what was the old stat Teams with the rushing champion
haven't won the Super Bowl because guys hit the wall.
Because they you're talking about getting into game eighteen and twenty,
and with Barkley going way past his overall touches for

(38:26):
a year, he's going to hit the wall sometime early
in the playoffs and you can't you can't give him
the ball eighteen times for thirty six yards. The Eagles
have to know this. They're gonna have to play them
all the way down the stretch, but they know in
the playoffs it's gotta be Jalen Hurts driven and they
have to find a way to adjust and if not,
they're going home early. Now, I know you love your
The idea of him breaking Dickerson record like he front

(38:47):
of the show, a great catalyst for a lot of
what we do. One of the great interviews of all time.
I have the unedited audio if you needed. At some point, Smith,
but you know you're gonna look at you know, gain Well, Shipley,
whoever else is on the roster at that point and
try to figure out how important is the number one seed.
And I say this only for the fact, obviously Outdoors

(39:10):
get Golf and Company Outdoors, is that the Lions are
going through a little bit of a transition here with
a number of injuries on the defensive side. So arrested Barkley.
He's been averaging about twenty three touches a game, but
arrested Barkley for the playoffs could still run rough shot
if but are you gonna be able to arrest him?
You don't, But that's the point played Detroit in Detroit Man.

(39:33):
That's like saying I don't want to try to fight
Jason Smith in his living room, nearest or nearest refrigerator, Like,
I'm pretty comfortable there. Those are my comfortable places. Man.
You don't want to You don't want to fight, Siriani
said anytime anywhere, talking about how much they were the
bully against Baltimore. I don't want to do that. You
don't want to play that game. You don't want to
do Who can't? Is it a cambeling or a Sirianni debacle? Jason,

(39:54):
what do you say about a playoff game? I, hey,
we've got a playoff game fourgo no, no, no, no twelve years?
Is that what you thought about when you saw Mark
Sanchez in the booth? And yes, playoff games? That's what
I think about when I see Mark Sanchez doing FFC
title games. Buddy, you know, for the last time you
had any glory in actual lot of time, he had
more road wins in the playoffs and almost every quarterback
in the history Superstar Jets. You uh from my Tom Jason,
