Let's give this part. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello and welcome in hour three Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon live from the tirag dot
com studios tirec dot com.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
I'll help you get there.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirag dot com is the
way tire buying should be. Well, I guess I should
say thank you to the Dallas Cowboys. Yeah, he say
thank you, yeah, because I thought, well, the Jets, We're
gonna have the most embarrassing bad play on Sunday that
(01:00):
costs them the game. But the Cowboys said, oh no, no, no,
oh my beer, we got it for you tonight against
against the Bengals. Hang on, we got we got it
for you.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
We got it for you.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Look, if you're gonna fail, fail spectacularly, we talk about
it all.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
The time, dude.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
I mean, look, this is this is what the Cowboys
with that block punt muffed leon let type play overcame.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
So yesterday Jets and the Dolphins, they're tied twenty three
apiece and the Jets are driving. They have the ball
with a little bit less than a minute left to go.
Aaron Rodgers gets sacked. So it's third and twenty six
and right now it's about a fifty five yard field goal.
I think he just got sacked again. So yeah, So
here here's the thing. This is where it took de
vont Adams allo seven weeks to officially become a Jet.
(01:42):
So the Dolphins have no timeouts left, and there's about
fifty five seconds left and they run a back shoulder
kind of fade to DeVonta Adams just to get about
fifteen yards so the Jets can kick a field goal.
Right because it's third and twenty seven, you're not gonna
get it. So they run the fade to Devonte Adams,
who now knows because Jeff Albrick talks about it after
(02:06):
the game, he knows that Okay, I gotta go down.
I can't get knocked out of bounds because I go down,
and the clock ticks.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
All the way down.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
We kick the field goal, and the Dolphins have all
of ten seconds on the kickoff to try to win
this game. We're gonna win this game. But Devont Adams
catches the ball and he doesn't quite do anything, and
the defender wraps him up and shoves him out of bounds.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
So now the Jets kick a field goal to take
the lead.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
But now the Dolphins have fifty seconds left instead of
ten seconds. They get a good run back and they
kick a field goal. They go to overtime. The Jets
never touch the ball. The Dolphins win the game. All
Devont Adams has to catch the ball go He knows
I can't get shoved out of bounds, but he doesn't
do anything. He catches the ball and just stands there.
And when they ask him about it after the game,
he said, oh, it was the official. The official said
(02:51):
decided they were just gonna let this clock tick all
the way down until they push me out of bounds.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
What am I gonna do?
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Took zero responsibility. This is how long it took The
Jets to turn devont Adams into a Jet. He shows
up right after the trade. It's hey, guys, why are
we so negative? Why is this happening? We should be happy, habit,
We're making plays. I'm the guy making the big impassioned
speeches because I knew here. Seven weeks later, it's yeah, yeah,
officials fault. I can't believe they didn't blow the whistle.
(03:17):
Play was dead and they can shove me out of bounds.
All he had to catch it and go down. Make
sure you don't get pushed out of bounds. He didn't
look like he fought a lot to try to stay
in bounds. He got taken off his feet, pushed out
of bound. So as a result, instead of the clock
ticking down to ten seconds, Jets calling a time out,
kicking a field goal, the Dolphins aren't gonna win.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
No, no, no.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
The Dolphins had more than enough time to get down
for a field goal to tie the game. And as
soon as he got knocked out of bounds, I said,
the Jets are gonna lose this game. This is this
is what it's like for Jet. As soon as you
got I said, Jet's gonna lose this game because they're
gonna kick a field goal, but the Dolphins gonna kick
a field goal, they're gonna win in overtime. And that's
exactly what happened. And I said, because I've seen too
many Jets games, as soon as he got knocked out
(03:54):
of bounds, I knew we were gonna lose.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
I knew it.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
And that's exactly what happened, and going full jet, not
taking any responsibility, saying it's not my fault. The officials
should have blown the whistle. Dude, what are you talking about.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Man?
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Just find it, you know, not to get knocked out
of bounds. And I get knocked out of bounds. And
it's not like he was running out of bounds. It's
not like that was where he caught the ball. He's
five feet.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
From the from.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
The out of bounds line, but he's allowed to get
picked up and pushed out of bounds because he doesn't
realize or doesn't make the play he needs to make
for the Jets to win. That being said, the Cowboys
plague went past it. That being said, the Cowboys play said, Okay,
that was great. That was really bad.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
That was awful, and you took no responsibility.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Hold my beer, because we're going to block a butt
and then fumble it like it's Leon Lett Thanksgiving weekend
in nineteen ninety three. Oh, that's a good question. Which
which is worse? Guy who many project could be a
Hall of Famer Maybe outside shot, depending on how we
look at stats. And I would argue, you know, forcing
(04:53):
your way off. A couple of teams would negate that.
But we've seen history would tell us that's not the
thing that's going to send you away. Not getting out
or a Monday night football game, you know, in that
game that Dolphins, uh, that Dolphins game against the Cowboys
was on Thanksgiving. Everybody watched the game was oh no,
(05:14):
I'm talking today, not that, But that's where that's worst. Yeah,
but I'm talking which was worse. That was worse, But
I'm talking this weekend. These two plays, Leon, that's a
whole other thing. This is a Monday night football game
because yours, yours allows the Dolphins life, Yeah, to stay
into the and love it. But that game was on
(05:34):
a on a on a Sunday afternoon at one o'clock.
This is in front of God and everybody on Monday
night football. Yeah, but how many people were watching the
Simpsons ones, so it really didn't make any sense. I
got to see how that was animated.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
You know.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
I watched the Simpsons version and they said there was
a crazy ass play where a punt got blocked, but
then the Cowboys muffed it. Oh oh, it actually did happen.
Oh wow, Okay, that sucks.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
I mean, the Cowboys in months having a field day with.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Israel Amani or Rauwaria decides to try to feeld the
ball after the Cowboys block a punt with two minutes
left to go. It was fourth and twenty seven for
the Bengals. Now the Cowboys block the punt, the ball
goes past the line of scrimmage. Okay, well, the ball's
gonna come to rest somewhere around midfield and the Cowboys
are gonna have two minutes in the football at midfield,
(06:22):
except Orwaria decides I'm gonna try to grab it for
some ridiculously bad reason, he muffs it. The Bengals recover,
and because it was a punt and he got passed
the line of scrimmage, they got it first down though
it was fourth and twenty seven. Burrow drives the Bengals
down throws a touchdown to Jamar Chase, the Cowboys turn
it over on downs and the Bengals wind.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Up winning when the Cowboys could have.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Cowboys could have won and stayed in the playoff hunt.
All the bad stuff that happened with Dak Prescott hurt.
The season's over. Cowboys gonna stayed in the playoff it.
But no, no, no, we're gonna biff a special team's play,
which still happens way too often because guys just don't
know the rules and they freeze up.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
You know what, I'll go with you.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
This one's worse because you hurt your own playoff chances
versus playing spoiler. Okay, but you're the it's the Cowboys
and it's on Monday night flow, you know. But that's
what really starts to amplify and makes it Monday Night Football.
If the Jets thing was on Monday Night Football, it
would be bad. They would never be on Monday Night No,
not anymore. No, we're we're banned for Monday Night Football.
(07:24):
We're one might have been the will absorb the cost
of the Simpsons animation. They'll say, we're still going to
flex this game out.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
If the Jets had.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Been sed Jets will get back on Monday Night Football
at the end of Juan Soto's contract with the Mets.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Are right now.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
That being said, again, an incredibly awful decision. That's why
we're talking about Leon Lett and crazy plays. Yeah, ball
gets blocked and then it takes a hop and it's
doing the end over end and run straight touch it.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
You can't touch the ball, Just stay away, engage.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
You know.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
The most upset Cowboy following this was Michah Parsons, who
left the field looked like he was talking to himself.
He was talking to himself on the sideline. Uh, here's
a little bit of Micah Parsons a few moments ago,
a very emotional Cowboys linebacker on the loss and the
fumble and all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 6 (08:15):
I wasn't even really grasping what was going on. And
Nick made a great play, and then you know, I
asked direct, you know he's playing what happened. He told
me that we touched the ball. There was definitely a
huge momentum shift. I mean, we just got a huge stop.
We're going to two minute drill. It's just real hard
to you, you think, to believe you could pull that
(08:37):
game out from that situation. That hurts you say you
didn't wish.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
The sidecause it just feel like.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
It's snowball this year. Everything it just seems to be bouncing.
Speaker 6 (08:54):
Between the players. I mean, so many situations. It's just
I don't want to say it snowballing, but I don't know,
it seemed like we're paying a due that's not fair,
you know, I don't I don't know if it's bad
luck karma, you know. But in terms of the work ethic,
(09:15):
everyone's working so hard. I mean, I think we really
did well. We could have did a little bit better.
Container I think we gave up some points, but I mean,
he telling me we hold Joe Burrow twenty points and
two minutes left. With our offense, the way he was
moving the ball to day, I think we could win
the game.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Like an.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Out gutting to the sea go down.
Speaker 6 (09:36):
I cried. It's like my little bro bro like he
don't deserve that either. He really don't, so, you know,
just to understand what he's going to go through and
to be there from physically, you know, mentally, it's just
so challenging because he's so talented. The year he was having,
(10:00):
I mean, you know, I really just don't think that's
for either.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
There was Michael Parsons getting emotional at the end, like
you could tell these I had no answers.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
I don't know what it is. I don't know if
it's karma. I don't know if it's bad luck. I
know what it is. But he sounds like he is.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Done, defeated. He sounds like you're done.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
God got like he and Garrett Wilson just sound like
they're both done with their teams, like, well, I'm done
like that. That should be a trained Michaeh. Parsons for
Garrett Wilson, all right, because I'm done with my team,
You're done with your tea. Let's go at least if
it sucks, it'll be a different suck. So we'll do that.
Both guys are gonna want new contract, right, Yeah, they deals.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
That's gonna be great.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
I mean with Michael Parsons two quarterback hits on Burrow tonight,
no tackles, and multiple shots of him on the sideline
over the course of the game, looking around, you know, wondering,
you know, what what's going on, and at that long
walk to the to the locker room, though, I mean,
that's gonna stick with you, right, all that the bad
moments that you have, and certainly for the Cowboys has
(11:00):
been a rough season. He missed some time due to injury,
Lawrence you know out as well. Uh you look at
they finally got Digs back in the secondary. He made
some plays early on. But to have this game, as
you fought, even with Dak Presscott out to where this
you were, you were gonna have a legitimate winning streak, right,
(11:21):
You're gonna be winners of three straight two division games
and then this one in a big Monday night spot
to put yourself back at six and seven with four
games left, opportunity, right, we were looking at the schedule
before it's like, hey, why not, maybe maybe you got
a chance. The way the schedule makers work and put
things together with we know those final weeks you get
(11:42):
a couple more division games, and instead you're looking around
going all right, the fan, the football gods have smited us,
like what.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Did you do? Jerry?
Speaker 2 (11:51):
What did you do? He went all in?
Speaker 3 (11:53):
That's what he did.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
If I could just jump in here, Mica and tell
you what's going on. Early on in the Seaton off season,
I decided we were going all in on that you
remember you were excited about it but didn't really understand
what that meant.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
I'm here to explain to you what that means.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
What that means is that Dak was gonna get paid
and ceed was gonna get paid and you were not.
So that's that's all. It's hopefully I've a able to
clear some stuff up for you. Go on, finish your interview.
I'm gonna go see if I can call the Jets
about the Wilson kid. Now, Ceedee Lamb did score for
the first time in what six games?
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Seven games? So you got that for you.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
But yeah, from me, I made to think about Michael
Parsons for Garrett Wilson, who says no, who says no?
They both won insanely large contracts. They both deserve it,
They're both great. They both have had it. Michael Parsons
has had it with the Cowboys. Wilson's had it with
the Jets. Okay, let's make a deal, let's make a move.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Why not that?
Speaker 1 (12:47):
And I mean, you're not putting great stuff on tape
to that next deal. It's like you were not able
to get us over why not?
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Why not? A guy with zero tackle is gonna fit
right in with the Jets.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
Well, tackling is optional with the Jets, So if you
know that or not, you can tackle or choose not
to tackle. If you check a box when you apply
to work with the Jets, why he'll be a perfect yeah,
and it's there we go. No no tackle right then,
check right there, check bout checkbox right, dude, you're complaining.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
About the l you had zero tackles.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
Yeah, two hits though the Cowboys, and the Cowboys could
have come so close, they could have come so close
to getting back in the playoff races, so close.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
But if that play on the punt.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
The last little point though, is as he gets emotional
and he's he says, hey, I'm asking the referee. You
know exactly what happened. Folks are gonna go, well, was
obvious it hit your guy like they didn't get it
in the broadcast. No, no, no, no, you can't blame Mico,
who's on the sideline.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
They missed it. They missed it.
Speaker 1 (13:44):

Speaker 1 (15:29):
It is the Waitresses, Jason Smith Mike Harmon live from
the tirect dot com studio. Yeah, you know, she's mad,
but she meant him in a t shop, had his number,
but never the time.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
So whose fault is that? Whose fault is that?
Speaker 4 (15:41):
No, it's it, I mean his fault as that?
Speaker 6 (15:42):
All right?
Speaker 3 (15:42):
His number never the time? Oh okay, Then what.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Later on in the in the summer, she had a
bad sunburn, couldn't go couldn't go out with him? Then,
like you know, one time they're supposed to go out,
but his car wouldn't start, so they couldn't go out.
It's like, this is not a relationship. I'm like, you know,
what's not gonna happen. This shouldn't happen. Let's just let's
go go on separate ways, go seber ways, go slide left.
They didn't happen. Sounds like a you know, it's just
(16:07):
swipeless sink out, swipe left. No, just make it, make
another opportunity. She didn't have the time. She liked him
so much, but didn't have the time because she had
his number. Okay, then they were supposed to pick She
was supposed to pick up for Halloween party, but his
card wouldn't work. Meanwhile, in the summer, they were supposed
to go, but she had sunburn.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
So she never caught.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
It was time if she never called him in the
spring and then had a sunburn, so I would say, okay,
I'm not gonna call her anymore. It's not gonna happen. Well,
how many girls had your number and never called? Not
because they well, probably lots of them.
Speaker 6 (16:37):
Uh not one, not two, not three, not four, not five,
not six, not seven.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
She just had to come over the top.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
I didn't know it. Now I know Mary can count
to seven. That's good, not eight, not nine. You're gonna
go full FRANCESSA.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
That's enough you I can count higher than seven, higher
than eight, Michigan education.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Eleven's as far as it goes.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
Got Micha Parson's numbers. See it all ties together.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
I was, I was never and I never felt like, oh,
this is a this is two people that should get together.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Well, I mean you're trying on a quarterly basis.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
That's a problem. Let's go out in two months. Oh
two months between there. Well, I mean this is back
before there was instant you know, there was no cell
phones and we were paging people. This is the eighties, man,
like either you know, you called them and they were home.
Pagers existed. People didn't have people didn't even have answering
machines in the eighties. I called you when what time?
(17:33):
About one thirty? Let me see one thirty yesterday. Oh
I was out at the grocery store. Yeah, I let
it ring like twenty times and nobody picked up took
a message.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Though.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Oh my grandfather was the worst.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
There's Larry.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
You've heard these stories, right, I know, I.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Know there's daytime missed out on because he forgot to
tell me. Papa called. He knocked boots with so many Oh,
is this Hey, you called my grandson? Okay, you know
I'm his grandfather. Okay, all right, great, all right, all right,
call him back bye?
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Oh pop?
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Who called? I forget Was it a guy or a girl?
I don't know, But what was their voice?
Speaker 3 (18:10):
I don't know. They called, They asked for you.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
I say, you're not home. Don't ask me any more questions. Okay, pop, alright,
who's that in your room?
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Pop?
Speaker 6 (18:21):
No?
Speaker 3 (18:21):
No, no, my pop? No, my girl. My grandparents were
together together.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
Them, that's a whole other thing.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
Now they were together together. My grandmother was like, she
sounded like, uh Edith from all in the family.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Hi, Jason, how are you okay, Archie, here's your beer?
Here you go?
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Uh So, because they were going beyond Daddy went the
stuff they were doing.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
They were going full pop, full pop pop? Pop?
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Who called Pope? And then two weeks later I called you.
I called you go to that party?
Speaker 3 (18:53):
You did?
Speaker 6 (18:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (18:54):
I talked to your grandfather.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
No, Pop, Come on, you know if they invented thing
like a phone, you know, a camera on a phone,
I would have shown you what the party was all about.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
You couldn't write, You couldn't just.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Say who wasn't.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
And write it down, Write it down, Just write it down,
and say so and so called. I'll get her number
from somebody.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
If Dudge was Pop's name, Joseph Blue Pulowski, No, no,
he was not. He was not your boy, Blue, It's
not your boy. Looks glorious. Uh So Jan Soda is
a Met.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
Yeah, let's get out of that.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
And and I gotta tell you the most fun part
of today, all right, the most fun part of today
was watching the absolute meltdown that Yankee fans were having
after the after the the shock of Juan Soto turning
the Yankees down for the Mets because the Mets are
a better destination than the Yankees. Uh, Yankee fans just
(19:51):
found a way to make Oh we didn't need him anyway,
good luck beating the Dodgers Mets. All of this, yes,
all the hate and the jelly, see the Yankee fans
had flowing through you, flowing through the internet now too.
If my hands, really, if I had those powers that
the Emperor had, there would be Mets lightning coming out
(20:12):
of my hands. Just in the hatred and the jealousy
and how pissed off Yankee fans are that they lost
out on Soto, that the guy the team that's been
the little brother for them for the last sixty years
rises up and now, hey, I can beat you in basketball.
Now I've grown tall enough he used to beat me.
Now I can squat, Now I can kick the crap
out of you in basketball.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
We're gonna play.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
We're gonna keep playing all the times you've been when
I was ten and you blocked like eleven of my
shots in a row. Yeah, we're gonna keep playing now
because now this is the reality. The Mets have become
a better destination than the Yankees because Juan Soto, if
he wanted to go to the Yankees, he could have
done it. The Yankees are from a very similar amount
of money, and he said no, and Scott Boris used
(20:54):
the Yankees' leverage to get what he wanted from the Mets.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Normally, the Mets get.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
Used as leverage for everybody else, but none. This was
the Yankees getting used as leverage. So we got exactly
what he wanted from the Mets. And he goes to
the Mets. And that's I get, that's a lot to
take if you're the Yankees, But you know what, suck
it up. Once every sixty years, you can take a
big L. I mean, I know it's right after the
big L in the World Series when Wow, you couldn't
feel the ball in the fifth inning of of Game five.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
But you take that L, man, you take that big L,
and you just shut up about it because it happens.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
And now once in a while, once in a while,
things don't go your way, but they always go away
because we're the Yankees. Ah.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
I loved watching the meltdown of the Yankee fans. It
was almost as much fun as actually the Mets getting Sodo.
Not quite as much fun because I think about, oh,
I'm doing lineups today, like, okay, what if Soto hit second?
What if Soto hits third? I'm sitting here Almost almost
as much fun. Oh yeah, yeah, almost as much fun,
but not quite. But still seeing the Yankee fans just
(21:54):
get so bent out of shape have been fantastic.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
What's the old lion?
Speaker 1 (21:58):
It's no fun when the rabbits got the gun or
something like that. So yeah, here we have a situation
whereby it's the who wants to offer me the most
money and we're gonna keep pushing back. Maybe it was
a group text like it was a live auction. Here
we go, Lou Watson for fifteen years, the Blue Jays
(22:18):
have left the group. Chats wait, it got past seven
hundred I about But what what I would like to
know though, is did did Hayman get used on this
sweet thing five hundred thousand dollars sweet like as a
potential breaking point in all this because he had a
rough weekend, so this would have just been an extension
of it of like, I'm gonna throw that out. See
(22:40):
if he reports that one ye, everything, But with the
Yankee fans, yeah, I mean you're used to being And
we we coined this before this Dodgers season, long before
it commenced, of you know, the new New Age Evil
Empire and what the Yankees used to be right where
free agents when free agency was still in its infancy,
(23:04):
when guys were suddenly in Yankee hats and had to
get haircuts and shaved their sideburns and whatever else. And
it was a running joke. Hell, it was a joke
on The Simpsons all those years ago, betting me right.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
He's a home run.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
Yeah, shave those side burns, yeah, all of that, shaved
all the way up the side.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
I said, shave those sideburnds. I don't think you know what
they are all.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
But it's but all of that to say that that's
the image that everybody's had for years because those guys won,
and they won big a year after year. And then
you go into even with the Core four and all
of that stuff that were always sprinkled in some high
price editions. Hell, we always we played it at nauseum
the oh look who's in George's box? Right when Roger
(23:48):
Clemens comes back, all of these things and now it's
not the premiere destination. You're not in a philosophical space
for cash Menu and hal and everybody where they're a
spending a ton of money or be that guys are
accepting the money they want to give them, right, because
you could very easily just said seven hundreds enough, I
(24:09):
want to stay a Yankee. Yeah, if he wanted to,
he could have stayed. If he really wanted to, he
could have stayed. But he still had but he did
exorbitant amount of riches his goals. If you really believe that,
you could sit here and say, oh, Scott Boris was
going to get the most money, he was going to
make sure, but stop for one second. Juan Sota was
(24:31):
not going to spend the next fifteen years of his
life miserable.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Just so he could get Oh.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
It's a little bit more money, but here, but here's
what he's not gonna do the part of it right,
and the devil's in the details. We'll figure it out
as it goes. But you know, when you have opt
out to opt back ins and guaranteed salary increases and
whatever else, fifteen years is a surface thing. Like we
talked about with NFL contracts all the time. It's like, oh,
he got seven years and you know two hundred million.
(24:59):
H Well, no, when's the first opt out? Right? We're
looking at the Kirk Cousins contract. We were doing at
ahead of this week's game, not afterwards, but ahead of
this week's game. All right, what do they really have
to pay him? What are they on the hook for?
And we do this all the time, and certainly in
baseball it's the same thing. When are the first set
of opt outs that come in? And for Juan Soto, look,
(25:21):
he may have had no inclination to sign with anybody,
knowing that eventually Cohen was gonna go as high as
he needed to.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
So it just.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Became a game of Hey, I'm gonna sit here and
play whatever video game while waiting for you to tell
me what the final bid was from Cohen?
Speaker 4 (25:37):
What did we get about it?
Speaker 1 (25:38):
And it might have been just that fun process now,
But it doesn't preclude them from doing anything else, because
that's where the hard part of this is, right, the Yankees. Okay,
they don't have to pay him this money. It's not
like it's gonna preclude Cohen from going after every other
free agency. Of course, you're still gonna have to play
his game as much as he wants. They talked today
about wanting be Alonzo. So you're gonna keep spending money now.
(26:02):
When I say Yankee fans, it's always good to put
a face to the nail fans melting down.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
Other than your dad.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right. We wouldn't pick up the
phone for me today. Yeah, we gonna play crying.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
No, no, no, dude. Fabiano was so mad. He kept
telling me you're still gonna suck. You're not gonna beat
the Dodgers. You're all of that. He's right about all
the house. Stop are you kidding? We're sweeping the Dodgers?
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Nick to Tururo.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
You may know him from NYPD Blue other television shows
of the nineties two thousands.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Wasn't Chuck and Larry?
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Uh I think I was in the longest yard.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yep, he's in the longest yard.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Yeah, Nick to Turo, I have not seen him this
upset since John Kelly quit the Force at the end
of season one of NYPD Blue. Uh So Nick to Turo,
Yankee fan extraordinaire, decides it's gonna be a good idea
for me to go into my backyard and record this
video and put it up on social media. Here he
(27:00):
is from last night after the Sodo News dropped, wearing
his Yankee varsity jacket, letting mix, making sure that everybody,
especially one Soto, knows how he feels about him joining
the Mets.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Hey, one, So, I got two words for you to
you that's right.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Yeah, I'm taking it personal. We gave you all love,
we gave you off heart and soul. It wasn't enough.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
You turned your cap around into the world, Seriah, seven
hundred million, seven thirty Yeah, it wasn't enough.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
It wasn't enough. Guaranteen years, it wasn't enough.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
You don't even choose the Dodgers you don't even choose
the Dodgers go off Broadway to the Mets.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
You don't want to be on Broadway, and you don't
want to be judges. Guy, you don't want to be
judges partner. Oh that's right, judge. Now it's your team.
Uh clearly.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
TJ Dick deduro working NYPD Blue about his failures to
keep one sodo with the Yankee. Well, I mean he
gets a headline. I mean normally we're talking about the
greatness of the acting checks of the Jesus. Yeah, John,
but this is where this is where I just I
(28:07):
felt the hate through the computer like it was it
was bathing me, like it was bad UV rays or stuff.
You're not very forced? Oh you know, you know that
was that was like an audition forced. It sounded like
an audition for what or then at least Dad Patrick's
gonna call me to do an interview tomorrow. But someone's
gonna call me and put me on the air. I'm mad,
(28:27):
But I did I mean that the hatred I love
I like from set phone. I liked I liked his
off Broadway to the Mets line. I gotta like that
was fun. You go off Broadway A ton of Mets,
and I'm watching him going, boy, this is kind of
what he does, like in some of his roles, Like
he does some of the same kinds of things.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Who wrote that though? Did he write that himself?
Speaker 1 (28:46):
You think, Oh, I think he did. Yeah, it's Broadway line,
just that line. Well, yeah, that's a pretty good line
off Broadway. The guy's New Yorker, right, the guy. But
he's remember he's an actor, remember, not a real Yankee
fan member actor hate. What that means is that he's
paint to deliver a line that doesn't be write Because.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
They lost to the You loved the Mets getting here, No,
they did? No, are you kidding?
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Because you lost to the Mets. You lost, lil Yeah,
you did the Mets long. You went out and made
a trade to go get this guy. You came in
and you gave him your heart and soul. And I'll
tell you what I can't believe. Had to work with
Sibilets for the next few years. They bought me up
with Gordon Clapp, who hadn't seen anything since Eight Men Out,
and I'm gonna be partners with this guy.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
And I couldn't even give me a big role. I
couldn't even solve the case.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Why p D Blue. Hey, hey, I watch this quote.
We have great players still here. It's our job to
add to it. Uh huh, Bryan Cashman at the meeting, the.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Mess are out here. You're acting like you signed Babe
Ruth and so mad he was.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Okay, dude, if you if the Dodgers signed one, sonna
happenbody else.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
There's only one team.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
We told you this week's go ahead, and everybody wants
to be what do you This is the cost.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
This is the cost of getting a superstar at least
at least our guys gonna play the superstar.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
He's not getting you over the hump.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Okay, we were two games shy with a bad team
last year of beating you, and we were not a
great team last year.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
That's what we achieved.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
We achieved, man, we achieved. We achieved with guys we
rented to be starting pitchers and guys we rented to
play either either positions that were replacing or to be platooned.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
All of a sudden, was going to take it to
the Promised land. That's not got a great play.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
Because I was gonna say, boy, I'm pretty sure I
just watched it happened a year ago.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Okay, all right, just making sure that now you're comparing one. Yeah, sure,
why not? Your MIC's on? Why not?
Speaker 2 (30:45):
Why not? What do you mean?
Speaker 4 (30:48):
Why not?
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Is a great player?
Speaker 1 (30:51):
This will get us some run? Let me keep If
you lost, let's just say this. Think about this. If
you lost jokes.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
On the Mets.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
What's a good example, what's the good ex if you
I'm trying to think of somebody that came up as
a Dodger who was such a big deal if you
lost them, but now you just buy all your players.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
If you lost that player to the.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Angels, because happened the Angels exactly. Yankee fans never thought
that was gonna happen, but but it happened, and now
they can't deal with it.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
And it's all going to be so happy when they
see this play out. Oh just stop, just just just stop.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
Latest Dodds Dodgers plus three seventy five, the Mets plus
seven fifty, tied with the Braves.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
Were that good right.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
Behind there at plus eight fifty the White Sox.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
You know what, you can kiss my star spangled, silver
studded fourteen carrot.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
That's Yankee plus eight fifty eight million.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
The White Sox offered him fifteen million for two hundred
and seventy five years.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
White Sox are currently four hundred and one Tommy, Tommy
Edmondons contract would rate is the third highest and White Tommy,
I've been owning the Mets. I can't believe you go
to the World Series because it's Tommy Edmond. Oh, Tommy, right,
right now, we'll talk to the Tommy Edmund of Fox
Sports Radio Steve de Sager, who's got what's trending in
(32:12):
the watch.
Speaker 5 (32:14):
Yes, I'm playing center field today. Was short step before.
By the way, Am I the only one who's thinking
that Mookie Betts as a short stop not necessarily a
great thing?
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Yeah? And an old.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Glove outfielder, yeah, yeah, yeah, but put him in the
actually he'll be second base.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
I'm sure.
Speaker 5 (32:28):
I mean, he was talking openly about how busy and
occupied his evenings during games were, and not as good
a hitter when he became an infielder. And okay, standing by,
I want to see how that works. Do they get
it because he's just closer to the picture mound that way,
and they just assume more people will be hurt, they
(32:49):
won't have a five man rotation.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
Mookie ninth, it's yours.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Just think it's let's wear and tear running in from
the outfield, all right, you're running in from second base.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
You'll be fine.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
Interesting Monday night football, Cincinnati won at Dallas twenty seven
to twenty What was really interesting was with under two
minutes left, Dallas muffed a block pun giving Cincinnati a
first down when it recovered. And this was after a
fourth and twenty seven. And then with about a minute left,
game winning touchdown toss to Jamar Chase, who had fourteen
receptions one hundred and seventy seven yards, two scores. Joe
(33:22):
Burrow with three touchdowns and an interception. That's five straight
games with at least three touchdown passes for Joe Burrow,
who's having a great season. He just doesn't play defense
on that team. Rico Dabble of the Cowboys eighteen carries
one hundred and thirty one yards in the loss. And
how about this from Next Gen Stats that tonight Chase
had seventy five yards just after the catch. He leads
(33:44):
the NFL in yak over six hundred receiving yards after
the catch, and tonight was his third game this year
with at least ten receptions, one hundred and seventy five
yards receiving, and two touchdowns receiving. No other player in
NFL history has had more than one one such game
in a season.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
This was his third this year. Is that all Sarah
Lang's tweeting that out tonight the right researcher?
Speaker 5 (34:06):
No, No, it's not a baseball stand, although I would
recommend for you and you alone. The Sarah Lang's article
on MLB dot com, which is all Wan Soto and nothing.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
But no, okaycause That's what I'm gonna be doing for
the next few weeks, is just reading about Wan Soto
every day.
Speaker 4 (34:20):
That's his Christmas break.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Every day.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
I'm gonna print out all those That's what I'm gonna
give him as a gift. It's a compilation of Juan
Soda articles.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
I would start there.
Speaker 5 (34:29):
The Phillies are signing former Toronto All Star closer Jordan Romano.
The Tigers are signing veterans starter Alex Cobby missed most
of last season due to injuries, and the Knicks won
the lone NBA game tonight at Toronto one thirteen.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
One to wait back to.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
You, Big Bodag with a big three to Clinchon The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen live from the tirag
dot com studios, we have more from the crazy fallout
of Monday Night Football with the Cowboys and the Bengals
coming up, as well as why there should be zero
controversy surrounding the college football playoff bracket zero That's next
(35:04):
Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon. We got a big hot take coming away
on the Cowboys after the way they gave that game away.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
What else is how hot at this point?
Speaker 1 (35:33):
But look other big controversy this weekend, everything stemming from
the college football playoff bracket. Thanks to Clemson's last second
field goal over SMU, Alabama.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Is knocked out of the playoff.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
Miami doesn't get in the playoff, and everybody is mad
about something. Teams that didn't get in, or mad they
didn't get in teams that got in, or upset about
their seed. Oh, such and such a team has an
easy path to get to the final four.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Move on in college football. You know what, there.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Should be absolutely zero bleeping controversy about this because what
we're arguing now is who's getting snubbed out of the
NCAA tournament. That's and that is a day story, and
then we move on. Yes, Alabama and Miami not making it. Yes,
that's a story, but it's not a dominating story. The
story about who teams have to play is not a
(36:25):
dominant story because you're in. I have no time, nor
should we have time, to argue the merits over a
team that got left out at eleven or twelve, because
anybody who does get left out could have done more
to make sure we're one of the top teams in
the country. Alabama could have beat Vanderbilt right, could have
beat Oklahoma, they didn't. Miami could have held onto a
(36:45):
twenty one dozers lead against Syracuse, they didn't. Sorry, you
got left out. You had a chance, You had chances.
You didn't play a great schedule. The EIGHTHC schedule is
not as tough as the SEC. Alabama lost to too
many teams who weren't good. Hey, I thought Alabama was
okay being in last week, But do you really take
them over SMU. When you're saying, then, okay, the conference
championship game is going to be irrelevant. I mean, come on,
(37:08):
you're arguing over something that shouldn't be I shouldn't have
more than a day's shelf life. You want to argue
over there over the seedings, and we have to play. Okay,
but after that it's done. Because you're in the playoff.
You gotta be good teams to win, so go do it.
I mean, you have advantages, you have buys, you have
home games, you have all of these things. But even
(37:28):
but even teams they make the nca Tournament basketball don't
complain this much. And I get that that that it's
college football. It's a bigger deal. It's more money, it's
less teams. Yes, I understand, but it's still the same
philosophy of oh, hey, how do we not get in
as the twelfth best team? Sorry, because you're the twelfth
best team. The other teams that got in, they're all
better than you, and and in the top six seven teams,
(37:48):
as long as they get in, that's the best part, right,
we have the top six seven teams get in. The
rest you try to win your way in. Oh we're
upset about the path.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
We have it.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
So what are you talking upset about the path? What
do you want to buy into the into the into
the finals? You want to buy you don't have to
play at all. Hey, we should have a buy in
the first round and to buy in the second round
and we just we just show up in the finals
on the day with a twenty one nothing lead and
get a chance to play, Like what a teams really want.
I get that there's gonna be some sort of adjustment
after this season. There's gonna be adjustment to the seeds
and who gets the top four seeds, and there's gonna
(38:19):
be but you have to do it a year to
figure out and then and break a few wigs, you know,
to make the omelet. But what people want to complain
about the path and getting it? I got no, I
got on time for that. You could have won your
way in. You could have you could have played better.
When we're arguing your resume, it means you could have
done more. And if you get left out, you get
left out. Never let it go to the judges. It's
the old rule of thumb. If you're at the point
(38:41):
where we have to go and argue the merits of
what your your schedule was, what your career was, whatever.
Then then we've lost, right and you gotta just as
you say so emphatically take the L and move on
right the Alabama in or out, I don't care. But
for television purposes, hate watching is a thing. All of
(39:03):
those things. Would I rather watch them over ATMU probably? Probably,
But that's the way it works. When it came to
the hey, these four get the the these champions get
the automatic top four seeds. That was something that was
gonna be problematic, and you knew that at the outset
right Notre Dame. I'm agreeing that they wouldn't get one
(39:24):
of those the way this is drawn up, that they
could never be a top four with a buy.
Speaker 4 (39:29):
Okay, you know that's gonna rear its head.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
And now after year one they're already gonna raise their
hand and say, hey what about us?
Speaker 4 (39:37):
All right, we need to change this.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
We've talked about it a little bit, whether it becomes
you know, hey they have to enter a conference or not.
But you knew the three and four seeds were going
to be a problem, and they are right. I think
we can all say that, look at your rankings, Look
at the way this works, and then the seedings from
there is Oregon, you know, kind of screwed by the
path they have.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
Yeah, you know what go in Like Lanning.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Said it, yeah right, he did not help himself.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
Now when everybody's complaining about the path they have to take,
he said, all you have to do is win.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
That's gonna be thrown right back at his ass for this.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
I mean, look, there's there was going to be something
that was gonna have to be fixed, and the two
things we talked about are going to be what's being fit.
We talked about this a month a month ago when
they first started coming out. The top four seeds were
gonna be fixed because no one's gonna like the fact
that Bois State and Arizona State get that, but you
had to try it for you and see how it works.
And teams making the conference championship game, because now it's
(40:34):
a question we have to take them over teams that
are good but don't make it to the conference championship.
That's going to be addressed in the offseason too.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Well, especially if they can.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
We're talking about the conferences where you know, are you
getting rewarded because you're in a you're the second team
in a bad conference. Yeah, which is what we exactly
have coming out of this. That's why we call the
show Ahead of the Curve, because we told you about that.
About coming up next, we get back into the biggest
concio the night, the big blocked punt with the Cowboys,
(41:03):
and how about a nice hot take alongside it.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
It's holidays.
