(00:52):
we are big Friday night Lakers, trying to win without
Lebron who is away from the team for misonal reason.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Do you have any update?

Speaker 1 (01:00):
No? No, coming back soon? I don't know? Okay, great?
Uh same time tomorrow up? Yeah? Already break? If we
did learn one big thing here out of Friday, what's that?
I need to go get my eyes checked? Uh yeah yeah, yeah,
no you do? Yeah? When you looked. We you know,
you know, we send we spend five minutes to pull
the curtain back here, you know, we we spend five

(01:21):
minutes in the changeover from one show to the next,
you know, saying goodbye to Martin and Calvin everything else,
and e From moves in tonight. And so we always
say goodbye to the guys everything. All right, that's great,
that's great. And so the games Mike and I are
watching in the kitchen while we're getting ready, we come in.
We miss stuff for about five minutes. So we come
in and you know, we have the Lakers game. I said, okay,
here's the games we want on our televisions. Have Lakers Timberwolves,
have this, have this, have this? And so Lakers Timberwolves

(01:43):
is on, and uh, I look at I said, oh, okay,
so t Wolves are up eighty one eighty one. Didn't
say all right, no, no no, But I said to myself
and said, okay, because we're gonna start with Lebron's all right,
we'll up that outscore. Okay, great, And Harmon looks at
the TV and goes, ah, look at the Lakers winning
without Lebron, And I said, what do you think the
score is it's right there, and he goes, oh, oh,

(02:05):
I thought that was a seven. No, my quick glance
was seventy five seventy one, a four point Laker lead.
And you're like, dude, and I'm staring at I'm staring at.
It was at the top TV, which has now gone dark.
But it was like, oh, alrighty. Then I had the
physical last week. Evidently that eye exam, we probably need

(02:26):
to move that up a minute. Yeah, because I the
physical was probably good and and but they don't do
the eyes or if you actually do an I part
of physical exam, you we're a bad doctor. No, it's
probably so you know that well. Either that or they've
decided to bring it all in house, yes, and go
to school for a long time. Hey, do you want
your dental six months too? Here, go right in this room.
Let it say. It's the same guy, same guy, doctor, ophthalmologist, dentist.

(02:49):
He does it all. Let's go right in here, and
he pulls out one of those Ronco twenty device, you know,
little handheld Gadget's like ah, the pocket fisherman. Hey, And
then it's like this and then after you're done with that,
the next door down if you want a manny petty
Yeah there, okay, right, great, just we go all the
way through. Just go endo chronologist, heart surgeon, beat an MRI.

(03:12):
Anything else, we'll stick you in a tube, anything else.
It's all down here. It just go to each one
and click on the one you want, and that's what
we'll do for you. It's like the Muddy Python meaning
of life when you walk into the operating room and
it's just filled with every machine that they have to
impress the administrator. What's that one do? Well, that's the
machine that goes bing, and that one, that one's the

(03:33):
most expensive machine in the hospital anyway. And like when
the cheese shop had no cheese. Oh cavin bear breath?
Do you have? Uh no, no, I don't have it,
No do have? But yes, look big night tonight, Look
big football Friday. We're gonna take a look at all
the big games in the NFL this weekend. But yes,
right now, Lakers trying to win without Lebron James, and

(03:55):
they trail Minnesota. The score is eighty five to seventy seven.
That means death. That means Minnesota has eighty five, which
is more than seventy seven. Now in base two and
base five. I believe seventy seven is more than eighty five.

(04:15):
But with how we do it for basketball, just regular algebra,
eighty wins is more. Now it's eighty five to seventy nine.
It's closer, it's good, but it's still the Timberwolves lead.
So you're getting warmer. It is closer, but still the Timberwolves.
Now to my defense, however, tenus. It may be where
I was standing as I looked at the score, the

(04:38):
microphone at the end of the table was obscure. The
microphone was obscuring the score. Oh hey, And also very importantly,
NBA baskets can be worth two or three points. Good.
If you shoot from really far away, it is worth three. Great.
If you shoot from inside that arc, it's worth two.
You can also get one because Land said anything. And

(05:01):
then if someone hits you and you get to go
to the free throw line, which means it's it's it's
no one gets to guard you. It's a free Well,
what happens when the balls on the court a blood
red court? Does that cause problems for an official? Listen?
What this is like when when you're playing a new
game on game night with your friends, like but wait,
let's let's do the basics first, and we'll worry about

(05:22):
what happens in Super uh the Double Jeopardy. Okay, we'll
worry about that. You know how you have worried about that,
then you don't go to game night. But I'm telling okay,
one point per free throw, two points for a shot.
We all know, three points outside the arc. So you're good.
All right. Now, I want to talk more about these
game nights because I think they devolve into some other activities. Nothing.

(05:45):
Nothing is worse on game night when someone when someone
shows up and all they want to do is press
upon all of you the game they brought that looks
like it's no much fun, but they take it out
and set up like we're gonna play it. We're gonna
play it doesn't look like fun. It doesn't you know
what I'm gonna. I'm gonna. I'm gonna go uh, I
got something for work in the other room. I'm gonna
go uh in the in the kitchen and have a

(06:06):
drink and uh, then I'll come back in when this
game is over. Like now, there's always that one. Oh,
let's play this game is great and here it is,
and I'll teach you the rules here, this is your part.
I'm like, oh, come on, man, come on. And then
you say, hey, the tea Wolves are only up six.
I gotta go back to the game. Don't let him lie, Mike.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
I bet he's the guy that always says, let's play
strip poker, aren't you, Jason?

Speaker 1 (06:24):
I I have never in my life have I played
strip poker?

Speaker 2 (06:28):
What?

Speaker 1 (06:28):
I never played strip poker?

Speaker 2 (06:29):
No?

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Never did? Yeah, I mean that's why would I need
the cards? I got to take of cards. I'll show
you fifty two cards on the floor. He just wants
the super cut. That's where you got no plot, there's
no build up. He just damn that's where you got
to hit a song. That's where you got to hit
like Cherry Pye by Warrant or something, or round and

(06:50):
round by rat got hit. He just wanted to see
you flopping. I probably preferably with clothes on though. I again,
it's a war. We'd smithing. I thought we were gonna
have a whole like no limit Texas hold him tournament.
Why are you taking all your clothes off? Just watch,
just watch my cards. Later, here comes the Ace of Spades,

(07:13):
the As of Spades, the as of spades. I'm showing
all my cards. Now, let's go. Now. I never played sirpoker.
I didn't know if I ever really wanted to, uh,
because I I never. I never was in the how
do I say? I was never at a party where
I was comfortable enough with with the whole group of
people that wanted to do it. Okay, I'm like, okay,

(07:36):
this is something that I think. This can get a
little freaky, little weird and a little and I don't
really know these people, and that's not I'm not gonna
no shame at the end. Who was that guy? You know?
Know that you know that guy is? He's on the
radio now every night as you walk off whistling a
happy tune. But yes, Lakers trying to win without Lebron James.
And there's been so many opinions about why Lebron is

(08:00):
out Right, We're gonna give you one that's not been
talked about. There's the Lebron is just tired and he
needs time away. And this is low I'm not gonna
play in all eighty two games. This is load management.
JJ Redick even said the other night, Ah, sometimes guys
just need to chill, you know, in Santa Barbara for
a couple of days. You know, Lebron earning the Hey,
I've been a superstar for a long time. I need

(08:22):
a couple of days off in a couple of days.
Maybe the plan was too aggressive. Yes, So there's that.
Then there's also the oh, Lebron's gonna get traded. He
knows the Lakers aren't gonna win, and you know, he
doesn't know how much time he has left. And you're
hearing all these Golden State Warriors rumors that Lebron, who
has changed teams, would go because Steph hasn't changed teams,
so Lebron would go there. There could be a big
trade with the Lakers and the Warriors. You hear that

(08:44):
Lebron the Wars. So those are the first two things
you've heard. But I'm gonna give you a third one.
I'm gonna give you a third one. Are you going
down the rabbit hole? I'm not. I'm gonna give you
a third one. We've seen. We've seen the Lakers start
this season. They started pretty well and then they showed
that their start was a bit of a mirage. And
I'm being kind as they have lost their way the
last few games. They are barely over five hundred. Lebron

(09:07):
went through a stretch of his worst basketball that he
has played in quite a long time. He said, when
five games out, hitting a three, barely getting a ten
points in a couple of games. And you know, I
thought about this because I thought back to you know,
in like I remember when I was roommates at Syracuse
my freshman year. My roommate was a Philadelphia fan and
everything Philadelphia, and we had a conversation about Mike Schmidt,

(09:30):
Hall of Fame, everything else, and he said, well, Schmid
plays another four or five years, he's going to wind
up with this many hits and this many he's going
to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. And Schmidt
had like a bad weekend, like a bad four game series.
He made a lot of errors, he didn't swit, and
he just came up and said, I'm done. I'm not retiring.
What do you mean, Yeah, I'm done. I can't do
it anymore. I'm absolutely done. I'm retiring. And I was like,
eighty three, right, No, no, no, that was eighty eighty eight.

(09:52):
That was fall that eighty eight. Yeah, he played it
throughout three eighty eight. Remember when the MVP in eighty six. No, Okay,
you're right, You're right. So I was like, we were
just talking about him playing five years, and it's your fault, Smith,
it's your fault because we were talking about him and
now he's gonna retire instead of play another five years.
I don't believe Lebron's going to retire now, but knowing
that this is going to likely be a non championship

(10:15):
year for the Lakers, does he really want to jump
and try to go someplace else for one more year?
He had always said, my last year in the NBA
as we played with Bronni, and Bronni has had the spotlight,
Bronni has had his time. The Bronnie Lebron storyline has
gone on and it's been a very big deal. But
now here we are in the season, Bronni's bouncing forth
between the Lakers and the G League at a big

(10:36):
night in away game last night, scoring thirty points. When
you know, hey, Bronni's not gonna play in away games,
but here he is now and he played pretty well
last night. What if it's this, What if this is
Lebron taking time away from the Lakers. Knowing all of
these things are happening. I got to play with Bronnie,
I'll get to play with them all this season. We're
not gonna win the championship. I can see my skills

(10:58):
starting to go a little bit, a little bit, not
a ton, not where it's like, oh my goodness, but
a little bit. Maybe I should announce that this is
going to be my final year in the NBA and
I'm retiring at the end of this year. And we
get an announcement when he comes back and he says,
you know, I've played a long time, twenty years. This

(11:19):
is my goal. I'm here with Brony and he wants
to be celebrated over the course of whatever his last
year is going to be. And this would be the
closest thing to saying next year is my last year,
as he would have one time through the league. Everywhere
you go from the end of December into January, februm
marth And if he fails and does it win in
the playoffs, it's not going to be all Lebron failed.

(11:41):
It's going to be all Lebron in his last season.
Hopefully he can do it. Boy, what a shame it
would be if Lebron couldn't win. Instead of here's Lebron again,
can't get it done with the Lakers? When's he going
to retire? But noticing that he may be slipping a
little bit, it would be a big risk to come
back next year because if you stink next year, if
you fall off and you're suddenly scoring fifteen a game, whoa, man, whoa.

(12:05):
He's not going to be shocked at the end of
his career where it's like, you know, dude, you can't
even score two baskets in a quarter anymore. So that's
a big thing is for him is when do I
walk away? When do athletes like Lebron and Brady? When
do they walk away? They don't want to just play
until hey, you have to rip the uniform off of me.
I don't want to walk away, and people laugh me

(12:25):
and go, boy, look how bad that was in that
last year. Because people always remember the end, and the
end is always very prevalent in people's minds. The end
of Michael Jordan and Washington was a big thing for
a long long time. People remember that he's not going
to do that. So if you are faced with, hey,
I'm slipping and I don't know why, and maybe this

(12:46):
could be it he's taking time to decide, do I
want to announce this is my last year in the
NBA and when I come back, that's what I'm gonna do,
Or am I gonna say I'm ready to come back
and play I'm refreshed. But what if that's what it was.
He's taking the time now to figure out how he
announced this. He's always going to be very deliberate with
what he wants to do. I'm gonna have a plan

(13:06):
if I'm gonna announce my retirement and this is my
farewell year, the rest of what I'm gonna get for
the rest of twenty twenty four and twenty twenty five.
What if that's what it is for Lebron Either way,
it's I mean, it's not quite walking out on your
team when they call your number in the third quarter
of a Thursday night football game. But in the middle
of a season, your team's flailing and battling it around

(13:28):
a five hundred record, and you basically just disappear for
a bit, and your coach doesn't have enough information to
at least give reporters an idea of what you're doing.
I don't know. That's a pretty poor, poor reflection of
what you're doing with it. Whatever the end result of
this is because obviously if you search the interwebs, plenty

(13:51):
of other theories related to Lebron James going on out there,
we'll stick on the court and is aptitude therein for
the purposes of this conversation, is just the way he's
doing this if legitimately JJ Reddick doesn't know that was
a guy, right, everybody, Ah, they just did a podcast together,

(14:12):
that's how they tried to distances. No, it seemed like
there was more of a relationship there, and the invisible
hand got him to the coach's box and whatever. And
then I get it. You're respecting privacy to a degree,
but you're also making yourself look dopey and making the
organization look bad by like, when's he coming back? I
don't know. Hey, what can I tell you? He's just out?

(14:36):
If nothing else, just say, hey, we did a scan.
It could be fully a fugazy. The foot injury is
a bigger deal, right, that's why he was slowed down whatever,
excuse making reasoning whatever, But leaving it to this point
like now you've got a million questions that need to
be answered when you come back, right, unless you just
you know, unfurl a banner saying it's now my retirement

(14:59):
tour along the way. Remember Jordan still scored twenty points
a game in his final year shot dismally. I just
think about that. Twenty points a game is a little
bit more than two buckets in a quarter. Like that's
what you need to score twenty points in a game.
You gotta two quarters where you get an extra bucket.
But you know what, this is where Lebron comes back
and tells you, you know I always told you I

(15:19):
wasn't a score. How about that He gets to use
those words that he planned it all those years ago.
But it's all about evolution, right, what do you want
to be? We've talked about it with different players from Harden,
even Lebron's role earlier this year, that it changes adapting.
You just don't have the horses on this squad, I
think is pretty obvious. And you know he's useless defensively,

(15:44):
defensively most of the most of the game, and there's
not many of his teammates that could pick up. Like
when you look at it, Anthony Davis is gonna give
you what he can, but you're also on borrowed time.
Because when does he miss time? Right, you got seventy
plus games a year ago. That's the anomala in his career.
JJ Reddick goes out of his way to say, the
only consistent guy we've had is Ruy Hachimura. Well he

(16:06):
missed timed injury too. Yeah it was a while, so, yeah,
you don't have a rotation. Dalton Kneck's still trying to
find his sea legs and just go on down the line.
We talked with Rick Buker last week and it was, well,
you got four guys that you would start a team with.
That tells you where you're at in this process. But
for Lebron to disappear at this point it is the holidays,

(16:27):
maybe he's got shopping to do holiday holiday holiday, but
that there's no indication, what, how, why and when he returns.
That's pretty poor and reflects terribly on your team, your
leadership and the league. Exit out about a Fresco exit
swallowing down The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon live
from the tiraq dot com studios. What if that's what

(16:50):
it is with Lebron? Uh, We'll talk to a Lakers insider,
Mark Medina will join us following the Lakers game tonight.
What could be a loss as they are down ten
to the tea walls going to the fourth quart sure,
but well, well they're down there. I'm at I see
the score. I'm good. I'm good. But coming up next, Hey,
we had a big trade go down today in Major
League Baseball. And have we seen the end of one

(17:12):
superstar NFL player after what happened today? That's next, Jason
to Mike Fox.

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon.
Prepared to be yelled at, taking me back to the
first year of our show together. Now there's a mashup
for all time when Harmon went full porky pig, prepared
to be yelled at. Sometimes the synapses fire and uh,

(17:55):
weird things happen. Live Athtirerech dot Com Studios. It's Tiger,
got a big story out of the NFL Coming up
in a couple of minutes. Have we seen the end
of one superstar wide receiver? After what happened today? But
Today was a big day in Major League Baseball. So
a couple of big moves go down. The Cubs, get

(18:15):
Kyle Tucker from the Astros, get Devin Williams from the
Brewers Yankees. You know, I gotta say they have been
impressive that they have been doing this while in shock
over losing Juan Soto. They have been operating pretty nicely.
And I gotta say, you have to pivot. Gone, yeah, no,
it was yesterday. I gotta say they spent money. Look,

(18:36):
they overspent for Max Freed. But okay, but you know
Freed now, Devin Williams and a couple of things they've
done so far. All right, all right, they did their calculations,
they ran their numbers and decided Freed was worth that investment.
Because we always talk about big contracts. Jason, you're not
looking at it as an eight year deal. Yeah, right,
You've got to compartmentalize. It's you're you're going fifty to fifty.

(18:58):
What do I get out of that first half? Do
I win a title? Are we perennial contenders or is
it an abject failure from the start. Because if he
does his job on the front end and we win, well,
the rest of it's gravy. Nobody's gonna complain. I'm not
gonna be on the back of the fish raps that
we signed a terrible deal that crippled our team and
whatever else with the Williams finding always more bullpen help

(19:23):
and in an age where we've got fewer and fewer
blue chip closers to go and do that in because
look at that division, right, Red Sox are spending money,
Orioles are young and still coming. We'll see what they
do with their rotation and how that that pans out.
Toronto has been rumored for everybody still left at the
altar at this point, but we're still very early teams.

(19:49):
That's correct. Well, I mean you also had you know
mentioning of, hey, you know Sacramento was really a player
where they really are? They? Are they this year's White
Sox as a we're not gonna be a mystery team
because we want people to know that we actually got
We gotta get to the salary floor. We gotta spend
money on somebody. But I do want to say this,
if you know our job here is to entertain and

(20:11):
inform and and and and be provocative, we also need
to educate, right educate because someone like Devin Williams, maybe
people aren't familiar with this guy is a lights ole
closer with the Brewers. For the last few years he
was an All Star. He missed a lot of time.
This year when he came back, he was same All
Star he was when he went away. We need to
familiarize people so they until until they know Devin Williams is.

(20:35):
So can we do we have that? We have a
Devin Williams highlight from this season that people can understand. Oh,
that's who Devin Williams is. Do we have that? Do
you have the moneyball one? Sure? Oh? I almost really cursed.
I almost just cursed on. I almost just cursed on.
I want, of course, I want what? All right?

Speaker 2 (20:57):
Any think back to Peter Alonzo's career with the Mets
and the chance this could be his final at bat.
Is a met beer in.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
At he's a power hitter, you know, and he's just
one swing away from stenel.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
A beat one. It's the wizard gonna start now.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Heat that I think that a pain a lots up,
but they both hold run on his career, humps his
fist as he round second. Let's a ring around a
hold up.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
He's given the Mets a thread to till they all
plante on his light.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
A hard play the light. He hits up, hut his pars,
get lay by hot b it gone.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
Okay, let me stop you right there? That sucks, don't
you moneyball moment? Come on?

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Wait? Wait though? Did you record that through a door
wall in your back? There's lots of there's lots of difference.
There's online, there's lots of different versions of it.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
You could have found one.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
You could have found a different one if you wanted. No,
I didn't want to know. You didn't want to, of course,
because that's the best one. Yeah, where's that blue Christmas?
Hear that?

Speaker 2 (22:18):
That was so?

Speaker 1 (22:19):
That was Devin Williams. That was that Devin Williams. Well
throw that ball, that's Devin so I you're familiarize yourself
with Devin Williams. He threw that. Yeah, he was phenomenal. Yeah, No,
I mean you look at his regular season one, two, five,
e r A twenty two appearances. You look at that
last time and then around well, I mean that's why
they need to like, I gotta wash my hands with you.
Look at it. Look at it, wash my hands of you.

(22:41):
Of you two thousand dollars. I wash my hands with you.
I gonna wash my hands with you. We're gonna stand
in the sink. And you said to go, yeah and
wash our hands together. I'll watch your right hand. You
watched my left hand. When to watch our taking it down?
A creepy thing. You could have got to wash our
hands of this, you know, wash our hand. You're in
the mood, all right, I'm just saying, I'm just picturing
you at Oh, I gotta wash my hands with you.

(23:02):
What does that mean? We're not gonna be around anymore. No,
we're gonna watch our hands again. Here you're done.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Here you go.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Here's the soap out of the it's phoney soap. So
it's good there, phoney soap, good good, not that gel
soap that comes out just like trails over your finger
and good analysis of the phone and stuff. The problem there.
I washed my hands with you. That's I'm Mike Harmon.
I would have washed my hands with you. See this
on my only Fans page later on tonight. I'm gonna

(23:28):
wash my hands. It's Harmon washing. Is you know what's funny?
For a half hour and really said, is that there's
probably a sub section of a marketplace if you can
get yourself into the right corridors, whereas people would pay
for such.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
So that's Devin Williams. So you know we educate. That's
who Devin Williams is. You had to make it about
the well I had to play it. What's more memorable
than that? That's that guy had a great career And
what did you do? You took a baseball bat? Williams
one play people. People know that's who he is. Okay,
that guy, Yes, that guy right, tried to sneak one
too many by Peter saw how well it's worked out
for Pete also agency, Hey, no, it's working out great

(24:05):
for the match. He'll come back to us really cheap.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
It's working.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
As I said, there's no market from apparently coming back
to us. It's great. Uh but speaking of of athletes
in New York coming back, uh, we may have. Just
in fact, I'm pretty sure we've seen the end of
Odell Beckham in the NFL. The Dolphins release him earlier today.

(24:29):
Supposedly he was a mutual thing. He was never able
to get healthy enough, dent the lineup enough. He's supposed
to come in as a number three receiver. It never
really happened.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
And this is the lab.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
This is, without a doubt. We talked about Lebron a
few minutes ago. This is, without a doubt, the last
year Odell Beckham will play in the NFL. Potentially, could
I see a team who is desperate at wide receiver
in the playoffs, you know, in a playoff run, Hey,
he's gonna come in, gonna pick up the playbook pretty quickly. Yeah,
I could see him maybe somewhere for a final few
games stretch.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
But this is it.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
This is it for Odell Beckham. Like, no one's going
to go into next year going, hey he can commit
and be our number three. No one's going to plan
on because he doesn't produce and he can't stay healthy.
And you're going on five years of this. Now you're
gonna five plus years of not being able to produce
and not being able to stay healthy. So I this
we may have seen the end of him. This may
have been it. We saw it going out with nine catches,

(25:24):
you know, in five games, whatever it was for the Dolphins.
But potentially I could see a team maybe saying, hey,
we'll try to catch lightning in a ball. We need something.
He's a guy that's a veteran. Okay, maybe he even plays,
maybe doesn't even play. Maybe he comes in and plays
a handful of snaps. But after this year, like that's it.
No one's getting in the Odell Beckham business after this.
I think if you'd pulled one hundred fans, ninety nine

(25:46):
of them would have said he had a good run.
He was. He's been retired a while, right, I mean,
that's how inconsequential he's been for five years. Right. The
last big season twenty nineteen is seventy four catches. You
go twenty three seven, twenty seven, thirty five with the
Ravens last year, and then nine games, nine catches for

(26:06):
the Dolphins, who while teams are really working to eliminate
Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle, Johnny Smith evolves, but you
don't get anything from the third wide out and he's
hardly on the field. Yeah, it's it's done.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
Ye had always one of the great catches, a couple
of great catches back in the day with the Giants,
which is already a decade ago. Because that's the other thing, right,
we're talking about, We're getting used to guys having long
extended careers. That's not been the norm in the history
of the NFL. Those guys are outliers that have long, storied,

(26:43):
continued and consistent careers. Odell Beckham juniors kind of hung
on on reputation and wishing and hoping for five years.
That's a long time. Odell Beckham. Odell Beckham, to put
his career in perspective, he had three great years and
one may catch right, he had three great years after that.
That was it. The Giants couldn't keep him. He had

(27:05):
a lot of issues off the field, you know the
You had the the boat before a playoff game. You
had him punching the wall after lost to Green Bay.
You had him fighting with the kicking net. Uh. There
was a lot of drama, a lot of things. We
had the video of him and another woman with pizza.
They're on a bed and there's allegedly drugs, you know
all I mean, he had a lot of issues and

(27:26):
he goes along. Yeah, the pizzas don't good. Forget about that.
The pizza was no good, no cheese on it, the
pepperoni was are overcooked. But he's someone that's his career
has been three great years to start and one amazing catch,
And you can say a lot of things about Odell
Beckham and why he never was able to sustain that
for his green. Yeah, injuries are always going to be something,

(27:48):
but it happens with guys, and it happened with Odell.
Where sometimes you become a mega superstar too early and
you can't really handle it. Because his big catches in
twenty fourteen, right, and since then he was looking to
recapture that magic for a long long time, right, His
big catch was twenty fourteen. And when you become that

(28:10):
kind of a star, and it's not that people didn't
expect him to be a star, but he went when
he made that catch, like he went into the next strategy. Sure,
he's the greatest wide receiver we've ever seen, and he
went to being the biggest star in New York, that
one of the top two or three players in all
of the NFL, is number one selling Jersey, And some
people just can't handle it when you get when you're
that big of a star that early, and whether it's

(28:32):
your work ethic or the belief in what you need
to do, how you need to lead, how you need
to carry yourself, you get distracted by a lot of
different things. Everybody wants moments of your time. You start
doing things like training away from your team and away
from football. Like, he's a guy that became a star
too soon. Especially happens in New York, Los Angeles. It
happened with Cody Bellinger became a star too soon, couldn't

(28:52):
handle the rest of the way. Happened with Matt Harvey,
became a star too soon, couldn't handle the rest of
the way. Miles Austin and Dallas. Same thing, became a
superstar too soon, couldn't handle it. When you have that
happened to you early, not everybody is saying, Okay, I
know how to deal with this and that. When I
look back and say, why did he have a career
that was not as fulfilled, it's because he got He

(29:13):
went to from hey, he's a really good young player
to supernova way too early and he couldn't handle it.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
I mean, also you start adding up injuries and how
people respond to that, Right, if you've never really experienced
those early on or never had your play plateau. All right,
how many guys do we talk about in the NFL.
I mean, we're looking at it again this year look
over in Arizona. Right, all the Kyler Murray, did he
spend too much time on video games? Whatever? Have your

(29:41):
laughs and chuckles as you will. But he's also a
guy where adversity was not part of his path. Right.
He's a top pick in Major League Baseball for the A's,
he's the number one overall pick, a Heisman winner, all
of these things, it goes to Arizona. So all of
a sudden, you've got to change up all those habits,
all those training processes and everything else where the game.

(30:03):
Isn't it coming as easily as it used to? For
O'Dell Beckham junior. That was the same thing. Is all
of a sudden things got hard coming back off injury.
You're no longer than one because you're also starting to
get double team where you'd worn before. Right, It's it's
just the game changes. In the fact that they had
a bunch of bad quarterbacks in a road there in

(30:25):
New York didn't help either. But all of that to say, yeah,
the flashpoint of stardom like that in any venue, any
any vocation, and certainly on a stage like the National
Football League, Yeah, it's hard to keep your head. It's
hard to to make sure that you're still processing and
you're giving the time and attention to the right things,

(30:47):
and that it doesn't consume you, because certainly history is
littered with players like that exit out about a Fresco
exit swallen down the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon, and they say Fox Sports Radio is
littered with god like Steve Desager. Let's go to him
right now and find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports as d I don't even know what
that means. It doesn't sound too complimentary. I was really

(31:09):
kind of hoping you to have an explanation for me, Steve,
as to what he meant if we could clone you
and everybody here at Fox Sports RADI was you Fox
Sports Rady would be an awesome place. Well, thank you
very much. It is an awesome place. I will dive.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
Into the I've noticed this slick. It would be even
more awesome, is what I meant to say. Oh yeah, okay, yeah,
love it absolutely. In the NBA, memphisis Jess Beaton Brooklyn
won thirty five to one nineteen Jah Morand with twenty
eight points Minnesota over the Lakers ninety seven eighty seven.
Lebron James of La was out again with the sore foot.
Lakers committed twenty one turnovers. At Philadelphia, Joel and b

(31:44):
left after being hit in the face. Indiana won at
Philly one twenty one one oh seven. Chicago beat Charlotte
one oh nine ninety five. The Hornets from three point
range eight for forty six and Cleveland's now twenty two
and four after a home win against Washington, won fifteen
to one oh five. Sun's lead late first half seventy
four to sixty eight at Utah, which is five and

(32:06):
eighteen this year. There was a men's college game on
Fox TV tonight. Nebraska pulled away for a home win
against Indiana eighty five sixty eight one. NHL game Ottawa
three nothing picture at Carolina, the Yankees traded for closer
Devin Williams from Milwaukee for pitcher Nester Cortes. Williams career
era one point eight three. He'll be a free agent

(32:27):
in a year. The Cubs acquired outfielder Kyle Tucker from Houston,
a three time All Star. He'll be a free agent
after next season. The Cubs tonight picked up catcher Carson
Kelly on a two year deal. Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger
is on the trading block, Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker,
with a calf injury, is doubtful for Sunday night, and
Steelers wide receiver George Pickens with a bad hamstring is

(32:49):
out Sunday at Philadelphia.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
Back to you, Thank you, STEVEO. And I want to
say I am and have been extremely happy here for
a decade. I love it him, I am extremely happy.
I want to make sure people know I am extremely
happy and love you. I just want to make sure
you didn't tie yourself a night since the show started
in twenty fourteen that you were going out like Odell
Meckham Junior. I want to make sure I love it here.

(33:11):
I love it here. I am so incredibly happy here.
It's the last best ten years of my career have
been here. You know what, I'll give forty seven more
of the wash my hands with you than what you
said forty wife forty I just picked an arbitrary number. Okay,
gonna wash your hands for forty seven times, that's what
you're gonna do, Okay, As opposed to what you say,

(33:32):
I'm just saying with a malaprop of a preposition. Okay,
you know what, I'm gonna clone to Sager and we're
gonna just kill you. That's what's gonna happen. Wow, I
mean he's hungry. I mean in a very nice, in
a very nice way, in the very very rare, escalated rapidly. Hey,
coming up next, we told you, remember what we told

(33:53):
you yesterday? Hey, everything that happened with Bill Belichick. How
it was his idea to go to college football. It's
his destination. Believe the opposite. Yeah, evidence of that today,
The opposite is true. That's next. Rid here Jason and
Mike Fox.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
The war is through with me, uh, giving you a
different impression of the meaning of last Christmas, no question
about it. The video for this is terrifying. I'm watching it. Yeah,
the mash up of the video. Yeah, and you want
to talk about the worst part of this video is
when you try to play it on guitar Hero. You

(34:42):
can make it all the way to the end and
it ends with an insane Kirk Hammet song.

Speaker 2 (34:46):
Yeah that.

Speaker 1 (34:47):
I can't tell you how many times I failed, And
I'm like, it's an eight minute song. I just played
this thing for seven minutes, and because I couldn't keep up,
I failed the song. I had to do it all
over again. Oh reset dune dune duoe duom durn dune
d And then you get to the end and it
just doesn't give up. It's relentless.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
My fingers a bleeding.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
I hate. Another one that you might want to check out,
the late great Chris Cornell playing the music of one
by You two while singing, Okay, wow, it's a good one.
It's not it's not ais was a concert. He goes,
check this out. It's not Kischer, who's inventing things. Oh no,

(35:27):
he's a wizard back there. He's got his hat on.
He's behind the curtain in the whole nine yard. So
if you remember yesterday, Bill Belichick took to the mic
and talked about being the head coach in North Carolina
and the big quote was I didn't come here to
leave some how long you're gonna be here? Bill? Okay?
Then you had the Seth Wickersham article from ESPN that said,
oh yeah, Bill ran to college football. He was sick

(35:48):
of the politics of the NFL. It's a big blank
you to the league. Like these are all quotes from
sources close to Belichick. That's why he went to North
politics of I hate the stupidness of the NFL. Like
I chose this and we told you yesterday. Whatever you
think today is believe the opposite, because the minute the
NFL comes calling for Bill Belichick, he's gonna go. And

(36:11):
all you need to see is what came out today
when details of Belichick's contract with North Carolina were revealed.
If he leaves North Carolina in the first year or
before the first year, why would you need to put
in I'm gonna leave before the first year. You could

(36:32):
leave in May, Like, what the hell are you talking about.
If he leaves before or after the first year, the
penalty is a million dollars. If he leaves after that,
the penalty then goes up to ten million dollars. Obviously,
you see he also signed for three years, which is like, dude,
you got to get a cycle of players coming through.

(36:52):
I know you think the transfer portal, everybody's gonna show
up and you're gonna be like Deanna be the pip piper.
But how many kids are gonna say, yeah, I want
to go play for a guy who's only signed for
three years. It could leave Like I love Bill Belichick,
But man, I can go start for Dion, I go
start for Sean Moore in Michigan. I can go start
for Brian Kelly at LSU. Why am I gonna go
here and do this? As much as I like the guy?

(37:13):
So all you see in the details of the contract,
it's three years, it's only a million dollars, And why
would he Why would you have to put in an
out that if you leave before the season starts. Yes,
we told yesterday the minute the NFL calls Bill Belichick
will leave, don't believe any of this crap. I I've
always wanted to do. This is where I'm at. All

(37:33):
the pop everything yesterday was Spin. Watch the Great World, Spin,
a big novel from like three years ago. No watch
a spin, Spin. Oh, it's ed Ed Grimley from snl
oh Spin Spin, Spin, Wheel, Spin, shout out Martin short Spin.
That's all yesterday was was spin Because the minute the
NFL says, oh, hey Bill, yeah, we're thinking we want Yeah,

(37:53):
all right, Hey, I'm gonna take off this hoodie. Let
me take off the North Carolina stuff, because none of
this stuff would be in a contract if Bill Belichick
was going to stay. Yeah, here's four and five there,
but not guaranteed all sorts of bonuses for the number
of wins and accomplishments all the way through. All that's
all finding good. But to your point, you know, putting
out the out clause and the buyout being so low,

(38:17):
you just have to chuckle. As related to recruits, I
think it's just the recognition of on his part you
start getting into the negative recruiting about his age and
whatever else, but also recognizing the landscape that you're playing
in is that it's a I need to go and
get players. We're gonna work hard in free agency, Lombardy

(38:40):
and whatever other brain trust gets assembled of we're gonna
go and buy the best team that we can and
find the grinders to steal from Gruden for a second,
find those guys that are gonna be the glue guys
like those old Patriots teams, to where you're gonna be
able to grind out a couple of wins. And this
I think the over under was six and a half
half wins. I'll take the over on that. It ain't

(39:02):
gonna be pretty every time, but the schedule that they
have for next year, you gonna win, and you can
go five players to do it. Because it's all short
term commitments anymore in terms of your star players, right,
you're not looking to grind it out and build out
like you used to with a full cycle, different world
three years. He may not even see one recruiting class through.

(39:25):
I'm it's like the Jets and the Napkin. We'll have
Born Belichick and we'll preview the two biggest games in
the NFL this week next.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
I hate that song.
