(00:49):
in twenty minutes, Lakers insider Mark Medina stops buy What
is up with Lebron James? When will he return to
the Lakers? All the drama, all the answers Coming up
in twenty I want to find Adam Silver.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
I got a fifty questions to add. Maybe we'll pass
those on to Mark and see how many can get into.
You know, the next Commissioner's roundtable. He's got a lot
of explaining about the product and the blood red courts.
Now we'll get to a big story out of the
NFL coming up in a couple of seconds. But as
I mentioned a few minutes ago, here was a big
day in Major League Baseball for trades. Kyle Tucker go
(01:24):
to the Cubs, a great move for them, Devin Williams
to the Yankees. There's some reports tonight that potentially Flad
Junior could be on the move at some point. There's
like a three hundred and fifty million, Yeah, shades of
the Juan Soto for forty you just got.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
To throwing that allegedly allegedly, but alleged exactly. But look,
I gotta give the Yankees credit, because yes, they're still
in shock over losing Jan Soto, and they have acted
great in shock, right like in shock that the next
day they turned and said, here, Max Freed, take two
hundred and twenty million dollars. You're a thirty year old
left handed starter to take our money. But hey, Freed's
(02:01):
a really good starter. And Devin Williams is a really
good closer. He's been terrific for all of his career.
Was hurt a little bit this year, but then came
back it was the same kind of picture. So I
gotta give the Yankees credit because, hey, they have pivoted
pretty well. I mean, they still can't believe that won
Soda wouldn't take their money, but they've pivoted pretty well,
and I got to give them credit for that.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
I would be curious and what's real? What's imagined in
all the reporting that comes out of the Sodo circumstance.
You and I talking a little off air of you know,
the Bob Nightingale reporter earlier today that remember, Sodo hadn't
heard from teammates, and that became part of the discussion
of boy, he didn't like them, they didn't like him,
what's the deal? Nightingale reporting is like, no, no, he
(02:42):
got rid of his phone because he wanted his privacy.
He was getting somebody. So now he's reaching out to
the Yankee players to talk to them after his departure.
How again, real imagined spin You decide where in the cycle.
You love all of these stories, but all of that,
as soon as Soda was done, you'd have to turn
(03:04):
your back on him, and you gotta go and pivot
and go through. You've never had a crafty junk ball
in right hand or right at least in my mind,
it's always been the crafty southpaw. So at least free
you do'll have that going for him as he goes
on in the years. But you know, you're looking to
build the best roster you can with the final years
(03:24):
whatever they are of Judge's prime, right, that's really what
you're trying to sync it up to. So if that's
a four year, five year whatever, of that eight years
for Freeed, do you say, to hell with it, We're
going in and we've got to overpay to make sure
we establish that, you know, so you don't have the
back of the fish wrap talking about luxury boxes you
wouldn't give or discounts or whatever. And then going over
(03:45):
the top with Williams, one of the best closers, and it's,
you know, going anti the movement of we'll just throw
whoever looks the best and hungriest in the dugout and
out in the bullpen.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
His eyes just didn't tell me he is ready.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Here.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
You got a legitimate closer who when he fills out
his irs forms at the end of the year, it's
not kind of a reliever, but just putting down general
reliever or can I say closer?
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Yeah, it still says closer. Now speaking of that, we're
about entertaining, We're about giving people takes, being provocative. Oh yeah,
about education here on the show. And there's a lot
of people who might not know about Devin Williams. You know,
his his resume and everything else about him. I mean
he did play in Milwaukee. Yeah, I mean, but he's
he was really really good.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Not to be confused with Baxter.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
To help people have been bark Twice's Baxter bark twice.
So let's give everybody a sense of who Devin Williams
is and this kind of playing okay.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Is it going to be a real fair analysis of
his percent This is going to be him on a
big stage making a big talking.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
About when you need him in a find moment, which
is the big money.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
And you eat him to close okay series game in
the in game one because you went to Nestor Cortes
and that didn't work like Devin Williams in a big situation.
Let's hear the highlight just.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Went one out here in the night would quite possibly
be the final and back in the men uniformed for
Pete A Lonzo who knows.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
I watched his highlight at least once a day back
back putting that row of seats and was worth in
Milwaukee there and then.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
A lunch.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
That was Devin Williams.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Now the second March the other run he gave up
in the night.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Jesse Winker is slamming his helmet on the ground, screaming
at the Brewers.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Dugout Winkers, such a good.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Coll and the I'm moving on the Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Very just enjoy the show. FS one on the call there. Yeah,
they're Devin Williams. That's Den Willims. Just so you know
that's Devin Williams.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
You already got Soto. You had to take another Mets
victory lap.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Kyle McCord was tenth in the Heisman vote. We had
all of these things.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
That's great, and you gotta stomp on Williams.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Good name.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Hey, if I said to you, Devin, the name Devin Williams,
what are you thinking of? You're thinking of that? Hope
run to Alonzo and the shot of him after with
Alonzo rounding first, he just pats his glove and stares
out and goes like that's a poster I want. Yeah,
if you'n hear me something for Christmas, the poster, that's one.
If Williams just staring out like with Alonzo behind him,
(06:58):
you know, doing the whole show kiss, that's what I want.
There's been a trend the last I want to say,
the last three weeks, maybe maybe going back a little
over a month of the will he or she sign it?
So it's all the randomness. So in some cases it's
actors or actresses with early headshots, right early promo photos
(07:19):
where they look at themselves and maybe they're they were
a child star in the eighties, like wow, look at
that hair or what they did, you know, dyeing their
hair or hairstyles, that they had, bad clothes, whatever, and
they laugh about it and they sign it. Or it's
a player who someone puts a photo in front of
them from a team they played with, or a circumstance
(07:41):
in a game, much like you're describing with Devin Williams,
Will they sign it? Tom Brady, here's a bunch of
stuff and then there's an Eli Manning picture in the
middle of the stack kind of thing. Devin Williams, I
gotta think, no, I might I might get a fast
ball and get some high cheese. Yeah yeah, or we
might up and go. Are you, Mike Harmon, do you
(08:01):
asked me to sign this thing?
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Might?
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (08:05):
And then he just I have that ball.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I have this ball that was hit off around the studio.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
I have this ball that was hit off you.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
I have the Alonzo ball. That's uh the Jason smithsonw
with Mike Carmon Love from the ti rac dot com studio.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
See the poster of the Alonso ball.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Meanwhile, speaking of New York, by way of Cleveland and Miami,
Odell Beckham was released by the Dolphins today. Yep uh.
Never was able to find his footing. They brought him
in the off season expecting that, Okay, he's gonna need
some time to heal, taking time here, could he's time
to get healthy, But then they expected it to potentially
(08:42):
be their number three receiver. Never happened, got nine passes,
he couldn't stay healthy. The Dolphins let him go. This
year is Odell Beckham's last year in the NFL. It
may be now, but with three weeks left in the
season there I could see some teams that are playoff
ish with suddenly a rash of injuries. That hey, Odell's
(09:05):
a guy is gonna come in play for us for
a couple of weeks and we see what happens, and
that would be the end for him. But no one's
bringing him back next year. The guy hasn't been productive,
hasn't been healthy in five years. So that's good, that's it.
I mean bad. I feel bad for the guy because
injuries really robbed him of the back half of his
career a bit. But in the end, I mean, there's
(09:26):
no way to say, Okay, let's go in next year
penciling in Odell Beckham is one of our wide receivers,
so maybe he gets an injury favor the end of
this year. But this is it. This is the last
time you'll see Odell Beckham in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
That's toff, right, and you and I now we've been
doing this show since you know, he came into the league. Right,
he comes in in twenty fourteen, we're on air for
all the great highlights on air, for all of the
what the hell is he thinking moments of his career.
But the the tail has been long, right, It's been
five years, as you said, since we had substantive weekly
(10:02):
numbers and contributions to where Odell Beckham's junior's name was
going to be part of any honor role that Terry
Bradshaw rolled off on Fox or any other breakdowns we
were doing of games talking about him as nothing more
than a flyer. Right, That's really all it's been for
five years of maybe and then wishing and hoping, going, well,
(10:26):
they'll do their best to cover up this wide receiver
with their number one corner. Maybe Odell can find something.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Here here or here.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Last year, thirty five catches with the Ravens. That was
his best output since twenty nineteen. Yeah, and do you
remember any of that? Answered a long time? So, yeah,
that's the hard part. It's a long tail to an
end of a career, still a decade in the league,
decorated and honored, and a guy who we will remember
some of the highlights forever.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
But yeah, it's done. But that's the thing. In Odell
Beckham's career, we could have been one of the all
time greats. He had three incredible years to start in
one and the best catch we've ever seen in NFL history.
That's the guy's career. The first three years were unbelievable.
And he had the catch. And what happened to him
is no different than what we've talked about what has
(11:17):
happened to Matt Harvey became a star too early in
New York and Dago right, Miles Austin became a star
too early with the Cowboys. Couldn't handle it. We've seen
that happen to guys where hey, all of a sudden,
you go from hey, you're really good young play everybody's
focused on you, cause all of a sudden, you're you're
a supernova, and players can't handle it and you wind
(11:38):
up making bad decisions. And Odell Beckham had a lot
of off field bad decisions to make, whether it was
the boat picture before a playoff game, punching the wall
in Green Bay, the video of him with the girl
that potentially there were drugs all over the place, like,
he made so many bad decisions, and a lot of
it you can trace it back to when you're not
ready to be a star, when something when hits you
(12:00):
so fast, not everybody is prepared for how to handle it.
And here were the giants who wanted to make Odell
Beckham a lifetime giant. They said, we just got to
get rid of the guy. We can't even keep them.
We got to get rid of the guy. You're a
superstar in New York and you know when he's training
away from the team, the questions about how much he
loved football, Like this is someone who couldn't handle being
(12:22):
the star. He was anointed early on because his first
couple of years in the league and the catch it
was he was in his jersey was a number one
selling jersey in the game. He was one of the
three most popular players in the game. He stirred, debated,
but I'm going back to twenty fourteen, like he couldn't
do after that, Like that was it for him, Like
he couldn't handle being a star right away. And you
(12:42):
see that happen with players and they wind up not
being able to sustain it and their career goes off
track and they listen to the wrong people, they make
bad decisions. But you gotta be able to handle success,
right And I talk about that with a WNBA because
that was their big question all year love they couldn't
handle success, and Odell Beckham couldn't handle his success the
way he needed to.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
No, it's the difficulty, right we We've watched it in
all all forums when we talk about sports and entertainment,
the things we bridge here each and every night on
the show. Thanks for being along for the ride for
as long as you've been uh. And if you're new
to it, uh, you know, just hold up. We're just
getting warmed up. But it's the cost of fame that early,
(13:22):
you know, flash points that guys have, uh, and the
immediate reactions or when they don't. I mean, look at
we talk about the NFL all the time. If a
you know, quarterback is forced and pressed to play as
a rookie and it doesn't happen right away, you don't
get the long gestation period that you used to. It's
very quick, un unrelenting force of negativity that forces the
(13:47):
hands of gms and and owners right you're you're reading
the press, press clippings and and moving and pivoting really fast.
Ronald Beckham Junior, you had the other part that comes
through of quarterback play plus injuries that come in. And
if you've always been healthy, you've always been the most
athletic guy on the field, able to pretty you know,
(14:07):
leap buildings at a single bound, and suddenly you've got
some injuries that start nagging at you. You know, how
much is your confidence shake and how much are you
battling back from that? How much you were working through?
You start getting coverages you've never seen. Right, Miles Austin
went from being yeah, he's the periphery number three wide
receiver to a breakout star. Oh wait, now you're getting
(14:28):
the number one corner and the safety shit. And then
he got hurt. But already Bellinger was the same. He
couldn't handle success as much as he at.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Least had a n mall run.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
And now the Cubs bring in Kyle Tucker and it's like,
someone please take Bellinger. Right, there's like a sign up
as well, you know, as well as he's played in
different spots since those immediate returns with the Dodgers. But
all of that to say, yeah, it's it's a tough
run and trying to navigate all those processes in histories
littered with him. I mean, the most relevant I think
(15:00):
the last couple of years staying in football was Kyler Murray.
Remember all the punchlines about his video game and how
much he didn't work whatever, everything always came easy. I
mean baseball. There's a top pick of the A's football
he's a Heisman winner, and he's the number one overall pick.
If it's worked for you to that point, how about
you get a change. Odell Beckham Junior, I dare to
(15:20):
say much of the same of I don't need to
work with that guy. I can work out over here,
and if he gets the ball in my catch radius,
it's gonna be great. Not always the case. Exit out
about of Fresca Exit Swollen Dome. We may have seen
the end of him now, but potentially I could see it.
But this might be the last time nine catches with
the Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Oh he had a good run. Ah, Okay, he got paid,
he's famous. Okay, could have been a better run, could run? No, man,
we always want a little bit more. Exit out about
of Fresca Exit Swollen Dome. Coming up next, what is
up with Lebron James and the Lakers? When is he
coming back? Is he coming back? Plus we'll previous the
(16:00):
biggest games in the NFL this weekend straight Ahead Jason
and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
This is ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Channeling that shrinking character. Forty five years ago.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon, Happy Holidays, Chewy singing. Silent night. It
was a pretty TJ. It was a pretty silent night
for the Lakers with another loss. Big goings on in
the NBA. Joining us now in the hotline a man
who wants to be called the Underminer, longtime NBA insider
(16:52):
front of the show. See him on CBS out here
in La Mark Medina. He's on Twitter at Mark g Underscore.
Medina who joined us in the off season and vowed
to us it would be his big mission this year
to undermine JJ Reddick at all turns, and now he's
gotten Lebron James to step away from the Lakers. Congratulations, Mark,
(17:13):
I think you're really putting into JJ right now.
Speaker 5 (17:15):
Well, Hi, look, they're three and seven last ten, they're
tenth in the Western Conference. JJ Reddick has no idea
when Lebron James will be back with the team, and
they're about to play Memphis on Sunday. I think you
know the time ends well for me to take the
head to seat it pretty soon.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Here. He just sees you going in. You're measuring his desk, measuring.
I'm just gonna make some change now, don't wry, don't
don't look at me, just ignore me. He's gonna I'll
be in here after the holidays.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
Yeah. Yeah, we're just you know, consulting to see how
things can run more efficiently out than you know.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
All right, so Lebron takes time away from the team.
We don't know when he's coming back. It seems like
everything is all right health wise, family wise. It's the
first thing you think about. JJ Reddick said, Hey, you
know what, sometimes guy just needs a couple of days away.
But does he need some time away? Is there a
trade going on? Could he be contemplating announcing a retirement
(18:07):
decision for the end of this year? Like what could
it be for Lebron.
Speaker 5 (18:10):
James really to choose your own adventure? And so many
things can happen because there hasn't been any clarity whatsoever
with the Lakers on what exactly it is. And I
think you would suspect that if it is a personal thing,
they're not going to divulge much. But you can't help
but think is some of this injury related because he's
missed the last two games having a sore left foot.
(18:33):
I think it was really telling when I was at
practice on Wednesday asking JJ right at how he and
the staff have managed Lebron so far the season, And
you know, did I really need to ask that question?
When I kind of the answer someceing there, but I
still want to ask it. I thought it was telling
that JJ admitted that he has said that Lebron at
(18:54):
times has asked for a sub a couple of times
because he's been gassed. And maybe we shouldn't be surprised
with that because Lebron's about to turn forty in December thirtieth,
he is in his twenty second season. But for JJ
Reddick the head coach, to essentially admit that father time's
knocking him down a few pegs rather than Lebron is
(19:15):
playing out of his mind and playing on a all
time level, I think that there is a reality that
they got to find ways to, you know, give him
some rest so he can recover. So we'll see if
recovery is enough before Sunday or it's another prolonged absence.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Yeah, but Mark is it wouldn't it be easy to
just say hey, if he if he's dinged up and
needs to sit out, it's they would just say it.
There's there's no there's nothing dastardly behind it of saying,
oh we do this, people are gonna think this and
all of a sudden, this narrative is out there. Like
if it was just hey, I need some time away,
I need to sit out, I need this, or I'm hurt,
like the Lakers would say that, wouldn't they.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
I would think so, So again, you don't know what
you don't know, but you know, there is a coincidence
that he would already nursing injuries here, and I would
have thought that the fact that he missed Sunday's game
against Portland, they had a weird quirk in the schedule.
I guess, instead of the incentive to win money in
(20:13):
the NBA Cup, if you don't, you know, if you're
not able to qualify, all of a sudden, you get
some days arrest. And so they didn't play until Friday.
So as a result, they had two days off. They
practiced Wednesday, had a travel day. I thought that would
have been enough recovery time for Lebron to play. But
I guess because of the personal situation that complicates matters,
(20:34):
But you know, the reality as it pertains at least
to basketball, the fact that he is still listed on
the injury report with that foot injury should leave Laker
fans concerned.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Yeah, I do dig the fact that as soon as
they were eliminated, suddenly the E Cup didn't matter anymore.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
But all of that, just I.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
Checked that Banner is still up at Crypto dot com arena.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Damn right he is.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
He didn't get back to five hundred k either.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
All of that to say, though, what is the overall
overarching feeling of the Cup outside of the blood red
courts and things of that nature, as to its future?
Speaker 5 (21:10):
Yeah, well, I was on a conference call with Evan
wash who's you know, he's basically one of the NBA
officials that's overseen the NBA Cup in season tournament. What
I found very interesting is he was saying that, you know,
as it pertains a Las Vegas being a host site,
that they're not committed to Vegas beyond this season, that
(21:32):
everything's on the table. And I was a little surprised
by that, only because it's only been two seasons, and
you know, Las Vegas is a neutral site. Kind of
think final four for NCAA basketball, this would be good.
But I think that this is telling in and of
itself that yes, the NBA Cup in season tournament's been
(21:53):
largely a positive thing, but has it been positive enough
last season the NBA can think it's left the stars
that the Lakers were in that title game because in
the semi final games, the fans didn't really fill it
to capacity. And he admitted that, you know, there has
been a little bit in reduction with the ratings this
year compared to last year. And look, even though he
(22:17):
mentioned that Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, they're the two
best teams in the Western Conference, Milwaukee Atlanta, they've hit
at stride that that can introduce themselves to another segment
of fans. The NBA is going to hit a hit,
you know, a drop in ratings because the Lakers aren't
in the NBA Cup, neither of the Golden State Warriors,
(22:39):
as Jason Smith can attest, neither are the New York
Not only is Jason Smith presumably having nightmares the last
two days from Trey Young, I want to be surprised
the NBA League office is having the same thing. You
confirm that. By the way, Jason, continue in your dreams
(23:00):
the last two nights.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
You know, because I've come around to this. The next
time they play, the first time he drives the lane,
I think the knicktion. I have a little something something
waiting for a.
Speaker 5 (23:10):
Sequel.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Yeah, but Mark, I reminded him that that would require
Cat or one of these guys to actually rotate.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
I just have to rotate once, rotate once, and then
you don't have to do the rest of the game,
just one time.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
I don't care what the metrics say. My eyes tell me.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
So what could it be, Mark, Because obviously you want
to make this into a big thing. You want to
make the trophy worth something.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Is it is?
Speaker 1 (23:29):
It could be something as simple as, hey, we can
guarantee a playoff spot if you win to the winning team.
Like is that is that a big enough thing to
say you're you're guaranteed to finish no lower than six? Like?
What what could it be for the for the E
Cup to say, hey, okay, there's real stakes. Because when
you can raise the stakes, you raise the importance of
winning it, and then it turns into one of those
mid season soccer European soccer trophies and everybody loves yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
But to be frank, I think the incentives are there.
I think in fairness, the NBA players aren't for any
of the NBA Cup like it's the also game. I mean,
that's a legitimate concern that's become unwatchable. I think, you know,
for the most part, the games have been mostly good.
And now I know, you know, whether you're an old
school guy or or not, there's been some pushback on
(24:14):
the volume of three. There have been some blowouts. I
think there's been entertaining games. I think the problem is
there's just too many factors that explain why the ratings
have dipped. And you know, to an extent, I will
buy that there are some of the circumstantial things that
explain it. Look, it was overlapping with the World Series,
(24:34):
the device of presidential election. People are cutting the core
to begin with. And then I think that the NBA
has created, uh, you know, almost the opposite of a
scarcity demand. We're back in the day, the fact that
a marquee team was only on every so often this
that game, Uh, you lost your chance here on League
(24:54):
pass you have any chance to see it. But I
think it's also you know, the injury, the de value
of the regular season, the fact that the streaming options
are there, but there's so many bugs that make it
a hassle. All these factors are a factor, and that
makes it, I think even more challenging for the NBA
to provide a solution, because I think the NBA Cup
(25:17):
has been a net positive. It's helped the regular season
as far as that gap in between Opening Night and
Christmas Day games. But the problem is, the NBA regular
season has a lot of multifaceted problems. So just because
they come up with something to reduce the problem, the
problem is still there, all.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
Right, So how do we solve it by trading some superstars?
Where are we finding some juice here?
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Mark?
Speaker 3 (25:43):
All these rumors and photoshop guys already, I mean.
Speaker 5 (25:46):
Fruit here is that the Knicks get better calls. They
don't give the Houston Rockets free frows on a loose
ball to deny the Warriors a chance to get into
the semi finals. But beyond that, in Rick.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Carlisle, everybody gets it called equally, all right.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
All these small market teams, I feel like they're at disadvantage.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
All the winning the Knicks have done, the last ten years. Yes,
all the calls they have gotten, they're so good.
Speaker 5 (26:14):
Yeah. Look, big market teams obviously have a bigger draw.
Big Marquee superstars Laking Jalen Brunson to have a draw.
But I'm at wits end the NBA. You know, if
you are going to praise them, they do try to
come up with innovative ideas, but if you're also going
to criticize them, sometimes they get to creative for their
(26:37):
own good. The bottom line is the root of the
problem is the NBA season's way too long. But no
one's ever going to reduce the season because you're going
to be asking owners, coaches, players, even the arena workers
all collectively to take a pay cut, and that's just
not going to happen. So how do you work within
that framework? If it's a long season, how do we
(26:59):
make the best of it? You add bells and whistles,
and so they added a new bell and whistle with
the with the NBA Cup, But it looks like they'll
have to add another new bell and whistle. Maybe, you know,
the solution short term is to have your show. But
it's the next year's in season NBA Cup tournament.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
Okay, I'm done with that.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
I don't think, Adam.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
I think you're ready for the fire.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
If it's guaranteed the next will be there.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Yeah, hey, hey, hey, listen, it's going to be a
long off season after we win the trophy. I mean
me long, wet Larry O'Brien Trophy first, then the E
Cup after. That's how we go.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
He is on Twitter at Mark g Underscore Medina that said,

one Soto things.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
Yeah, that has made him feel better. But I do
still think of that Nemhard miracle three with his eyes
closed in Game three against the Pacers. That's the one
that keeps me up at night.
Speaker 5 (28:07):
That's and I'm sure Reggie Miller nineteen nine.
Speaker 1 (28:12):

Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen Live the Diirector Radios.

He and I kind of have that Spike Lee Reggie
(28:33):
Miller relationship.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
It's Steve to.
Speaker 6 (28:35):

Cleveland's record twenty two and four after beating Washington one

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Fact the Cavs.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
Still have just one home loss. Washington overall is three
and twenty this season. And Indiana was a winner at
Philadelphia one twenty one, one oh seven Tyrese Halliburton thirty
two points, eleven assists, two turnovers. Pacers today acquired senator
Thomas Bryant from Miami. Tonight, Philadelphia is Joelle and Bid
left the game after being hit in the face. He
(30:08):
suffered a sinus fracture. Men's college hoops Nebraska over Indiana,
NHL's long game. Ottawa shutout Carolina. The Yankees traded for
closer Devin Williams from Milwaukee. The Cubs acquired outfielder Kyle
Tucker from Houston will find out the Heisman Trophy winner

His former team, Giants quarterback Drew Locke doubtful with a

not practice today knee injury of the problem.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Back to you Thank you, Stevo. The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Carmon Live from the Tirack dot Com Studios.
Coming up next, Mike and I tell you who's gonna
win the two biggest games of the week in the NFL.
Keep it right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Maybe maybe not. I want to know though.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
Jason also shouts to the make Queen.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
I'm on the Syracuse Happy Holidays from Bill Belichick and
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon
Live from the Tirack dot Com Studios at Belichick. We'll
get to our preview the two biggest games in the
NFL coming up in a minute. But remember yesterday when
you saw the big narrative that Bill Belichick said, I'm
here at North Carolina, I'm not here to leave.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Everybody was waiting for a big yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
They all clasped a pause.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
It was almost like the applause button got pressed in
the blinking light.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
And then you had the big seth Wickersham article on
ESPN about how Bill Belichick was quote of sickened by
the politics of the NFL, wanted to get away from
the stupidity of the NFL and chose college football. And
we told you believe the exact opposite, because the minute
the NFL calls for Belichick, he's going back. He doesn't
(32:42):
want to be at North Carolina. Come on, and today
you saw the proof because Bill Belichick's contract details were released.
He signed a three year deal. No college coaches signed
three year deals, even in the age of nil and transfer. Wait,
so you're not even gonna sign for a whole wave
of recruits coming in his freshman Like, how are you
(33:04):
gonna recruit with that? Yeah, I've got a three year deal.
Are you gonna be here when I'm a junior? You
may not be, So there's a problem. So you know,
he might want to leave before.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
He's gonna be real active in free agency.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
But he's got a buyout of just a million dollars
if he leaves the first year. If he leaves before
the season or directly after the season, the buyout is
a million dollars. Then it goes up after the second year.
Why do you need to buy out before the first season.
He just got the job. But if I want to leave,
like it wasn't May twenty fourth or something like that, that, Yeah,
(33:37):
I mean, why do you have a buyout for May
twenty fourth or what about for the first season? If
the NFL calls, he's going back. He runs back to
the NFL. He gets back so fast.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Yeah, the structuring of this right, and we get all
the disclosure of the bonuses and everything else, but the
fact that it's five year deal in years four and
five are not guaranteed.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Also, you know, let's raise our eyebrow.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
But the buyout number is really just one of the
more laughable because what do we talk about with every
other coach in the college game in the program to
a degree of hey, here's your money, go away, but
certainly I'm in. We talked about it a lot for
Lincoln Riley and so many others, Like it's prohibitive because
you got to go into the you know, and pass
the hat to all of the benefacturers of a program
(34:23):
to the tune of seventy ninety whatever million dollars.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
It's a million dollars for the greatest coach of all time.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Million dollars.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
So you're telling me I want to be here for
the rest of my coaching career. I'm here for the
law and I'm.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Here, but I want to buy out before May twenty four.
In other words, look, I'm gonna take this job down
because you need structure, you need something in place. And
there's still four weeks left of the National Football League
season before people are legitimately gonna say, you know, say
we're turning the page here in New York, here in Jacksonville,
(34:59):
Las Vegas, you can go team up with Tommy there, all.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
Of those things to say. Yeah in May. By May,
you know, a month into NFL free agency, the minute
the NFL called, he would go back to the he
would go back in the minute so called the minute called.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
He's right, told, we told you, believe us right one
hundred and eighty degrees of what Belichick said yesterday.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
No, and look the fact that you've got and we
made this point yesterday. But for the audience always changing
and evolving, Jason, the fact of the matter is you've
got folks who their entire bread and butter is long
term expository journalism. And they're the ones that are immediately
coming out with quotes about how this comes to comes
to pass and details like yeah no that that's.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
Usually not your your gig.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
So you've been fed a line to read. Let's take
a look now ahead with Bill Belichick in college the
two biggest games in the NFL this weekend, Buffalo and Detroit. Look,
I'd love to be able to pick Buffalo, but only
one thing is stopping me from picking them. What's that
They're not gonna win? Look, the Lions are just continued
to be a machine. They have to show me a
(36:06):
reason why wouldn't pick them. Yes, they've escaped a little
bit over the course of the last few weeks, but
they're a great team. And Buffalo has a great quarterback,
and Buffalo's not that great away from home. And if
you're gonna give me I have a great team at
home against one great player, I'm gonna take the great team.
Detroit has to absolutely throw up on themselves for me
(36:28):
to say, Okay, maybe I don't think they're gonna win
this week.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
How about this for the sake of the show and
what we're gonna do on Monday, I'm gonna take the
Bills to win, because if the Lions finally lose a game, Yeah,
it all goes to hell. Campbell's an idiot, all goes
the injuries to the defense is too much like all
of a sudden. I just want to see the narratives
that flow out of one loss.
Speaker 4 (36:50):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
That would be the main reason for picking his I
do think Detroit wins a close one the fifty four
and a half. Hopefully it's a seventeen to fourteen game
or some crap like that. But yeah, for the sake
of the argument in chaos, I'm kind of rooting pretty
and leaning pretty hard towards Buffalo.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
All Detroit had to do is kneel on the football
and Campbell had him throw an interception. I can't believe that. Uh,
Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, I'm just never gonna believe in the
Steelers as now, big time. I'm just not. I just
I'm not believing that Russell Wilson. He's been he's been good,
but he's not been what everybody has presented him to
be because so much of his passing is there's so
(37:29):
much yak. And the Steelers are kind of like the
Chiefs two point zero, the Chiefs light where they're escaping
and this is a Sunday where the Eagles stand up
in their own face of adversity and say, we're gonna
show you whose boss right now. The Eagles have been
able to win nine in a row. They have all
kinds of controversy coming off. Watch what happens this week.
They get the ball to aj Brown early and often,
(37:52):
and this is a game where the Eagles win on
Jalen Hurts's arm in the passing game. I'll tell you this.
I'll give you a Saquon Barkley under one hundred yards
rushing for the first time, while give you first some
under hundred yards rushing. But it's the passing game that
wins this. Their defensive line is going to give Russell
Wilson all kinds of problems.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
The Eagles win this game help both offenses struggle. So
we see the chaos start to unfold on the sideline.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
Barkley holding back Jalen Hurts with one arm and a J.
Brown with the other guys we're friends, come on, and.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Then we get to ask Nick siriatt and you know
what happens here. It's kind of like JJ reddick at
being asked about Lebron's availability.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
I don't know no, I serrioty be the guy coming
in with his fist up, going, Hey, who we fighting?
We fighting?
Speaker 2 (38:35):
Who we fight?
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Shuther we fight? We fight, we fight.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Give me the Steelers plus five and a half. Oh booo, Fox.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
I'm not saying it's gonna be pretty.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
