bold prediction out of the NFL, let me tell you this.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
You know, Wednesday is my wife's trivia night. She goes
out to trivia. Yeah, lucky guess trivia night. She goes
every Wednesday, and uh, I always say, give me the
best questions and we do them on the air. So
I have two good questions for you guys, including the
final question. They they didn't get it right and they
came in fourth. They were leading going to the final round.

(01:30):
They didn't get it right. They came in fourth.

Speaker 6 (01:32):
So not on the metal stand, no free drink.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
So I'll give you the sports question first before we
get to the final question. Okay, you guys ready, lots
are you ready? Yes, she's in the affirmative. Okay, here
we go. First question, sports question. What Midwest city was
the first United States city to host an Olympic Games?

(01:57):
What Midwest city was the first US city to host
an Olympic Games.

Speaker 6 (02:05):
Now, it's just a matter of how we define the Midwest.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
I had, I had, absolutely I was.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
I went through it, and I'm going I have just
had to be so long ago because I had.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
There's nothing coming to my room. I'm going, okay, no, no, no, no,
this one's easy.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
It's easy.

Speaker 7 (02:22):
Okay, all right, Frostburg, what's your answer if I want
to take an educated guest, Yeah, the city is very boring. Okay,
it neighbors where they cheat a lot.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Wow. Wow, So Chicago. No St. Louis. Oh okay, you're
saying Saint Louis. Okay, all right, Saint Louis. All right.

Speaker 6 (02:45):
See my my deductive reezy would have gotten me to
Minneapolis St. Paul.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Okay and the Twin City. Sure, okay, all right, tight shirt.
Where do you think? Oh gosh, you know what the
Olympics are? Right?

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Okay? Good? Uh said? Midwest? Midwest?

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Let's go Hawaii, Hawaii, very good, very good. It is
a little west. That's a little bit. All right, Moncy,
what do you think? What's your guess?

Speaker 3 (03:12):
You're asking the wrong person again.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
You know, no cities in the Midwest.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
I don't know. Well, yes, that's exactly it. No cities
in the heat he does it? He said, in an
actual state that's not in the Midwest. Okay, Kansas City, Monzi,
No Cleveland, Cleveland, Cleveland?

Speaker 5 (03:27):
Is that in the Midwest?

Speaker 6 (03:28):
Did you do that for Alex because he's got fourteen
Cleveland crops.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
The correct answer is Oklahoma City, Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
It was scheduled to be in Chicago in nineteen oh four. However,
there was a big discrepancy between countries about having this
in Canada.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
There was some kind of discrepancy.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
They couldn't have it in Chicago, so they moved it
to Saint Louis. How about that where they had it
was the lowest attendant Olympics by country.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
It's like a cardinal game.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Oh, come on, true. Everybody tells me how good fans
have in Saint Louis. All that's all they say? Are
these fans say, I don't think people are going showing
up to watch Jim Hart. They're so knowledgeable.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Yeah, all eight of them. All right, here's the last.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
This is the last question.

Speaker 6 (04:14):
Kind of insufferable by the way, having gone to several
games in Saint Louis.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
But they're all smart.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
They know they know they're not going to double off
the wall. They're doing the missing of the cutoff man.
These Saint Louis Cardinals fans, they're really smart wizards. Al Right,
Here was the last question of the night. Who was
the first solo rapper to be inducted into the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame? The solo rapper got inducted
in twenty seventeen. Twenty seventeen, first solo rapper to be

(04:40):
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They
were inducted in twenty seventeen. My guess was wrong, I said,
oh boy, yeah, it's gotta be this. My guess was wrong. Jason,
do us a favor. Who was your guests?

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Yeah, give us your guests. My guess was eminem. That
was a good one. No way was not no way.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
I had no way.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
There's no way they're putting him in. I get what
college clean his closet? Yeah, okay, I said, I'm sorry, mom,
I never meant to her. I don't know where Midwest is.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
I don't know where jay Z all.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Right, jay Z a guess. All right, you can say that,
jay Z.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Okay, Yeah, okay, jay Z.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
At twenty seventeen, you had a good run. Yeah yeah,
it was still okay.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
It's not like she said Diddy all right? You know,
all right, Frostburg, who do you think, doctor Dre?

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Doctor Dre? All right, that's good guess. I'll tell you
that's a good guess.

Speaker 6 (05:36):
You got very excited.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
It's either doctor Dre or somebody who's gonna go kick cube.

Speaker 6 (05:41):
Very nice, and they took that and leveraged it into
the Big Three.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Pam's team said, doctor Dre. It's not that, and it
was not doctor Dre. You have missed you all. I know.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Answer who It's gotta be Tupac, right.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Tupac Shakur above the rim.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Yes, Tupac was inducted promously in twenty seventeen.

Speaker 6 (06:03):
So is is he get in because I don't know,
kind of like the uh everybody likes the doors.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Uh did you.

Speaker 6 (06:12):
Get special considerations because she ain't around?

Speaker 3 (06:14):
It's really popular? I mean it was the same time. Yeah,
was like hologram Tupac.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
I think everything I think going on Ai Tupac, everything
else goes in. We have Ani then all of it
goes in. So it wasn't a sorry Mama, was a
hey mama. I said, oh, ty shirt, dude, drop a mike.
Come would That's like the greatest thing you've ever said on.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
The Okay, calm down. Wow, I've said at least five more.

Speaker 6 (06:38):
You know who does that quite pre My daughter Madeline
does the same thing. Okay, calm down, like that same
ingenation and reflex to calm down.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
So I'm expecting when you say I'm expecting, you know,
but my daughter Madam does that. She just Adam Sandler
shit up.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
That would be good. He does that, you're to call
and I want to drop of that. Thank you, thank you,
thank you very much. They shut shut up. Alright, there
you go.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
There's your big trivia questions of the night right now.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
No dragon balls. I'll give you no dragon ball z
this time. No dragon balls.

Speaker 6 (07:20):
I would have gone back to the well. If I
were the quiz master there, I'm the quiz master. Remember
the dragon ball z question from away?

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Are you the quiz master?

Speaker 4 (07:29):
I'm the gatekeeper?

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Are you the gatekeeper?

Speaker 4 (07:31):
I'm the quiz master.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Uh, I'll give you after today, I'll give you this
bold prediction that is absolutely coming true. Yeah, Aaron Rodgers
is back starting quarterback for the Jets Week one, twenty five.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
It's happening all right. Today.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
There has been a trifecta of bit of news surrounding
Aaron Rodgers. Yes, you have the feud with Ryan Clark,
which is all about vaccinations and everything else. But the
bigger news is that three separate stories about Aaron Rodgers
in which he said he would take a pay cut
to come back to the Jets.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Now thin about that. I'll take a pay cut to return.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
To the Jets. Like no one's ever said that. Normally
it's you want me to sign with the Jets. I
need like double what the other teams are offering, but
I'll take a pay cut to return to the Jets.

Speaker 6 (08:15):
Now, Tommy Fair, you got a lot of people who've
decided to take the pay cut instead of the the
other door.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Well, yeah, that's coaches, and but that gets Yeah, you
gonna take a pay cut.

Speaker 6 (08:25):
It's like, all right, how do we spit in this
that it's not just you did a crap job and
you have to give some of it back.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
But that get but that gets into Aaron Rodgers. That
gets into He also said he would be okay mentoring
a young quarterback, like I know you're gonna draft somebody
and bring them in, and you know, unless the Jets
release me, I will take some time in the offseason
to decide what I want to do as far as
going forward. Thinks he wants to play, but I will
take that. All of those things tell you that what

(08:51):
we talked about Aaron Rodgers with a month ago, again,
we're ahead of the curve. Rogers has one choice next
year to play football.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
It's the Jets. Because it's the Jets.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Nobody, nobody else is gonna say, yes, come in and
be our savior. Come in at forty years old. Look
at what a train wreck it was for this team
this year. Rogers knows it's the Jets or no one.
He knows the Jets are gonna be in flux. They're
gonna have a GM who's getting hired because it's the
only GM job this person could get. They're gonna have
a head coach they hired because it's the only head
coach anybody could get. Because nobody wants to go work

(09:22):
for the Jets and work for Woody Johnson. They saw
the time they saw him fire a head coach in
a GM in the middle of the season. Nobody wants
to go there unless it's my only chance. So Rogers
knows that it's gonna be flux next year. They're not
gonna pick high enough to draft a quarterback to immediately
succeed him, so they'll draft somebody in the second round.
And look, they have Jordan Travis who they drafted last year,

(09:42):
who may still be someone who's pretty good, but it
will be a year and he will absolutely come in
unquestioned as the starter, and if he plays well, he
will get to key he will. He will be the
starting quarterback for the Jets. The outside part of this
is that the last six seven weeks, Aaron Rodgers is indecent.
He's been decent to good last seven weeks, thirteen touchdowns,

(10:04):
one pick right has been The Jets have not lost
because of Aaron Rodgers the last seven weeks, so maybe
there is something to Hey, he needed the first half
of the season plus to get healthy coming off that
devastating injury, because you saw he was skittish and he
threw off his back foot all the time.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
He threw early.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
I told you I had no doubt the Jets offense
and Aaron Rodgers are going to be good. But it
had to be good by week eight. If it's not
good by week eight, they're gonna be done. And when
did Aaron Rodgers start getting good? Yeah, you're like week eleven,
week twelve, and when it was too late, when they
were out of the playoff chase. They've lost games and
got eliminated because the defense fails them. They've lost plays
because of bad coaching calls. They almost lost last week

(10:44):
because they decided to go for a touchdown instead of
kicking a field goal at the end Aaron Rodgers has
not cost the Jets games. But the narrative out there
is because Aaron Rodgers is so polarizing and a lot
of people hate him, is that.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Oh, it's Aaron Rodgers fault.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
No, Aaron Rodgers has actually played pretty good last nearly
the last two months. His connection with Devonte Adams is back.
You saw it last week. He's got a great weaponon
Garrett Wilson, and the Jets can think, Okay, we have
our offensive line finally. Joe Douglass got it right before
we got him fired. Hey, coming back next year, we
might be able to reload offensively. And what are we

(11:19):
gonna do if it's a bridge year to a quarterback,
We could do a lot worse than Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
He knows the offense. He looked good.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Maybe it is a fact that he needed more time
to get back to being healthy because he is throwing
the ball less off his back foot, He's throwing the
ball downfield more, He's had a little more zip on
the ball. So if that's the case, yeah, And the
fact that.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
He's saying all of these things.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
He is coming back as the Jets quarterback next year,
and maybe next year may be it and then we're
on to somebody else.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
He has a farewell tour.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
But week one of the twenty twenty five NFL season,
I expect to see Aaron Rodgers taking that first snatch.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
For the Jets.

Speaker 6 (11:53):
Yeah, I wouldn't expect any anything less. I mean, you
have myriad options in the in the draft and free
agency that are just no goes. Right, You've got whatever
Travis is, But when you look at Aaron Rodgers or
what's behind door number two, there's just there's nothing that

(12:14):
you're not getting any of the top guys. You're just
good enough.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
You're gonna get Sam Darnold back.

Speaker 6 (12:21):
In the draft, there just good enough to where you're
not getting the top guys because those guys are gonna
go on the top to reach. And so when you
start re going through and then you get to the
free agency market, it's Sam Darnold and everybody else. You
ain't bring him in back. So yeah, if Aaron Rodgers
finishes the year physically in the place he is right

(12:41):
now and playing as well as he is, you've developed
a roster around him. That's I would expect. Corley takes
a bigger step right and he becomes viable. You've got
the running back position that is in theory steady going
at an offensive linement at that eight or nine slot
in the draft, whatever that is, and then find someone

(13:04):
who can fix the defense. You know that wasn't broken
before you fired your head coach. But all of that
to say, you know, he's doing all and saying all
the right things, just like when he was coming in
and doing all the tours and showing up and shaking
hands and kissing babies. I want to be here. I
need to play. I want to play. Take some of
my money back. I'll even talk to the new kid.

(13:25):
I never talked to the new kid before, but I've
talked to him. Now bring it in.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Jordan Love is going, Oh great, didn't guy didn't talk
to me for two years. Oh but I'm meant to
this guy now. Yeah, all right, thanks a lot, Aaron
appreciate it. How desperate is he? He knows it's the
Jets or nobody. He knows he's irrelevant, he's not playing.
It's the Jets or nothing. That's what it is. Think
about that. But that's usually your choice. And the Jets
are you're out of the league, or there's ex jet

(13:49):
Now good. But this is your choice. This is the
last chance saloon. Let's go exit out about a Fresca
exit swalling down the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Carman.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Coming up next.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
How about a big bold prediction about an NFL coaching vacancy.
We know how it's gonna be filled. And wait till
you hear where Michael Pennix Junior was when he found
out he was a new starting quarterback of the Atlanta Falcon.
He was not in Cleveland. I'm at the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame. I'm excited.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
No, he was not in Cleveland. Oh at Tubac.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
No he was not.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
He was not. He was in Hawaiian.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
He was in Hawaii where the Midwest Olympics were being
Oh yeah, yeah, he was there. A lot of surfing
at that Olympics, a lot of surfing's okay, Uh, that's
coming up next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 8 (16:17):
Okay, no, no, no, no, no Leroy.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
So Leroy in his pickup truck. Yeah it's Leroy. So
this is a redneck reindeer. This is like this like
the precursor to Mader like, yes, based this story pretty much.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Okay, is your name?

Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen
Live from the tire Rag dot Com Studios.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Now, okay, all.

Speaker 6 (17:01):
Right, you're doing a you're doing a line dance in

gotta hear Belichick. We gotta hear Belichick.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Christmas, Christmas, Christmas.

Speaker 7 (17:19):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Now there are Christmas presents and there are Christmas presents.
We talked about this last night, Kirk Cousins benched is
Falcons quarterback.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
We told you it had to happen.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
It's happening.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Michael Pennick Junior takes over as Falcons quarterback. Kirk Cousins says, today,
I support Michael Penick Junior. I didn't forget how to play.
I knew I had to play better. Lots of things
with Kirk Cousins. But what makes this a heartwarming holiday holiday,
Holiday story holiday is that, according to a lot of reports,
Michael Pennick Junior, when he found out he was promoted

(17:51):
to being the Falcon starting quarterback, he was having a
hot dog at Costco. That's where he was gets the text.
It's a phone called Mike Rahim, you're in, You're up.
Let's go already, coach. Let me finish his hot dog
having a hot dog. He'll remember that hot dog at
Costco for the rest of his life. That was the
day he became a starting quarterback in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (18:14):
No, it's a heartwarming tale because he's he's overcome a
lot of adversity, injuries, a couple of different schools that
he that he went to before entering the pros. He's
had to sit patiently behind Captain Kirk, still the eighth
overall pick. But all of that to say he's an
everyman because every man, woman and.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Child loves the Costco food court. I can't tell you
how many times I've been to Costco eating hot dogs.
I've had a phone call like that.

Speaker 6 (18:40):
But don't you want a Penis Jersey Now.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
I'd do one phone call.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
No, Actually, I'd rather have a You have to be
in shape to get that. I'd rather have a I'd
rather Yeah, it's fine, I can't. I'd rather have a
Penix hot dog.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
Hi.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
I'm Michael Penix for Costco, and I want good news
to happen. I go to Costco and get a hot
You know.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
What, that's not a bad idea? Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
I mean cost new membership thing with the falcon of
all the look. We've been besieged by inflation the last
few years, and who knows what's ever gonna end. You
were upset spending three ninety nine for a chicken thigh
for me last night.

Speaker 6 (19:14):
It was a mini thigh, not very it was not,
I mean, but it tasted so good. I'm not saying
it didn't really good. It was more just the principle
of the matter, hadn't he just gone to the store
and bought four pounds of chicken?

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Like, what do you want? I want two chicken thighs
and a drink. That's twelve dollars.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Oh my god. I can't believe that.

Speaker 6 (19:33):
It seemed outrageous, That's all I'm saying throughout.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Well, yeah it is. It's a little bit more than
it should be for a chicken and drink.

Speaker 6 (19:39):
I fully expected you to walk that cup back over
there get yourself a refill based on what they charged.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
Sir. When were you in here last?

Speaker 1 (19:49):
Yeah, like four hours ago, So it's still worth I
guess still go to At least it's still in the
four hour range as opposed to several days later.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
I'm still going again.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
I'm okay, Hey, have you closed for the night?

Speaker 7 (19:59):
Hey?

Speaker 1 (19:59):
I came in eight last night, like around seven o'clock,
but I still have the cup.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Can I come in and get a refill? All right?
Thank you? I appreciate that.

Speaker 6 (20:05):
I think you just act like you've been there.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Yeah, because who are they gonna really remember if they
served you or not? Probably not, you know, I don't
think they went.

Speaker 6 (20:11):
I don't think it's really scrupulous.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
But you know, hey, guy's come in every day? Is
he come in every day? Hey? Cosey fills up that
drink and walks out.

Speaker 6 (20:18):
Dicky set up an office over keep going with it. It's
like Phonsie, he's got an office in the bath.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Drive around the city to pick up my lunch. I
go to Costco and.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Do the uh the the handouts, the uh oh, go
get some samples, Yeah, the samples. And then when I'm thirsty,
I go and get my refilled a Playo loco and
I go home.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Then I want to do it. I gotta go back
out again. I do it again.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
I drive to Costco and I.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
Go in again.

Speaker 6 (20:37):
That can't fault a good strategy.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
But through all of what we've been besieged with with inflation,
it is really rare. Like I'm trying to think of
any places I've went to where I can say, hey,
the prices are still the same or they've come back
to normal.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Costco is the only one.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
Like it's still a dollar ninety nine for a hot
dog and a drink at Costco. It's still a dollar
ninety nine for a slice of pizza, still two forty
nine for a chicken bake like Pam and I and
we go to Costco, uh, you know once every couple
of weeks to get stuff like we always eat there
and it's like, yeah, I'll have a okay, a slice
pizza and a hot dog and a cookie and two

(21:14):
drinks and a chicken bake.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
That'll be nine nine. Here you go, there's nine seventy nine.
I mean it's fantastic. I mean it's the only place
that really has been it's been in Fleetion Free.

Speaker 6 (21:24):
Now have they started to enforce the uh the actual
you've got to be a member to eat here yet
Uh yeah, you have to show your because they shoot
the thing.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Now there's a new thing going inside Costco where you
have to They don't just look at your your membership anymore.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
You have to scan it.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
Yea.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
And I think they want to know who's coming in
and who's coming out, what's got which is good? And
now it's a pain in the ass. Actually no, But
but it's people doing business.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
What do I do?

Speaker 4 (21:49):
Do I have to do this?

Speaker 3 (21:49):
It's like acause of fun.

Speaker 6 (21:50):
There's a fun look, guys, a bunch of a bunch
of dopes that are coming and eating all the pre
samples just should we have. But that's cost, man, But
that's cost if they're not paying for the membership.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
Eating outside like the outside.

Speaker 6 (22:01):
But I'm saying, like, if you could just wander in,
because historically you've been able to just wander in, you
don't show your car.

Speaker 4 (22:06):
You always show your car going in.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
Yeah, I always show your car, but not always let
me guess for you specifically, they let me go everywhere
without showing any no Legitimately, at the Costco's I've been to,
it's it's really not been rigorous of showing anything on
the way in. Okay, it's the when you check out,
which means you're wandering free, which means you got a
bunch of folks hitting the free sample line. That's cost.

(22:29):
That's cost to your bottom line.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
I'm running free, and.

Speaker 6 (22:33):
Then that's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
Go now I'm running free.

Speaker 6 (22:37):
But it's also a loss leader, right, Like we found
out that the Suns are going to do what the
Falcons have done before them in terms of cheaper concessions
or whatever. Same thing air like why why the cost
of a rotisserie chicken at Costco is low? You get
one of those, but you're loading up on a bunch
of other things that are higher margin items.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
I got seventy four bars of soap. Why that's the
smallest I can get. I got enough soap. Now it's
gonna last me until twenty thirty five.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
You can send him to your Syracuse football head. That
is true?

Speaker 6 (23:06):
Is that?

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Hey man? That might be the best gift he gets
his holiday?

Speaker 6 (23:09):
Holiday?

Speaker 1 (23:10):
Holiday seas three times he didn't shower, went nine to
three this year, and we got a quarterback today, I
think allegedly, So I'm okay with that. We think allegedly well,
because because he said he was coming, and there are
reports he was coming that he said, I'm not committed yet.
Is Ricky Collins, who is the backup at LSU who
hasn't got He's a four star kid.

Speaker 4 (23:30):
I was like, oh wow, the Syracuse got him. That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
And now there's reports where it's like, oh, yeah, he's here,
he's coming.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
Everybody's got it. Now it's yeah, no, I'm not committed yet.
Still some things going on, but hey, thanks for the love.

Speaker 6 (23:41):
I need him to go to Syracuse. So on a
Friday night game when you and Iron Studio and we're
watching it and he either throws a bad pick or
fumbles or takes a sack.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
We can yell Ricky, I can do the boys in
the hood Ricky, Ricky. But yeah, I mean, you think
about that. I'd like to have just one of those
experiences at Costco. I'm never gonna forget what the job
offer having this hot dog.

Speaker 6 (24:07):
You know, a positive result from your doctor, blood visit
or something. Yeah, right as you're getting ready to eat
a chicken bake and chocolate.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
Chip cook, I'm ready for the hot dog.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
Like next time I go to Costco, which is probably
next week, hopefully not because I don't want to go
before the holidays. In case, I'm gonna sit around with
a hot dog and wait to put in my mouth
and still stare at my phone.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Am I gonna get a phone call? It's gonna change
my life? Gonna eat the hot dog? Gonna eat the
hot dog now.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Michael Pennix Jr. The hot dog that changed his life.

Speaker 6 (24:37):
There's gotta be some branding to be done with that.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Always got to do hot dog commercials with think yeah,
I mean, and Kirk Cousins in the commercial as well,
like he's the guy that doesn't have his idea And.

Speaker 6 (24:47):
Here's the problem. Costco what's their what's their in house brand?

Speaker 3 (24:51):
Kirkland? Oh too soon? Yeah, Hey, they would say, hey,
I'm here for the Krek.

Speaker 6 (24:56):
That kind of a kick in the teeth the kirk
cousins know I was at Costco.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
Thank eat, go ahead, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
No, but part of the commercials, that's okay, Michael, I'm
gonna go in and get some of the Kirkland brand.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
No, it's the pennix Land now.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
And you see it doesn't say Kirkland anymore, scratched out
and sure the blue jeans, it's teased out pennix Land.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
We've had our crew on this twenty four to seven
since the news time now to find out what's trending
in the wide world of sports.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
With someone who eats all her meals at Costco, it's
Montey Belano's well, that's.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
Not true, but I did at one point. She's not anymore.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Your meals at Disneyland exactly exactly.

Speaker 5 (25:35):
But you're right, like the deals there are ridiculous. I
don't eat meat anymore. But you know in that episode
of Friends where they're in Vegas and Phoebe's like they're
the steak or like the dinner is like ninety nine
cents and they're like, you don't eat me. She's like,
for ninety nine cents, I'd eat you. That's how I
feel now. Costco and the chicken bake like I loved it.
I mean, the pizza is still a great deal, but

(25:57):
you know, like it's like, yeah, for ninety nine cents.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
I'd eat you.

Speaker 5 (25:59):
So of course Costco is the place to go, all right,
fellas everybody I know, I know. Week sixteen of the
NFL is gonna kick kickoff within AFC West showdown between
the Chargers and the Broncos. All of that starts from
LA at eight fifteen Eastern time. Justin Herbert good to go,
but tight end Will Disley has been ruled out by LA.

(26:21):
Running Back Julian McLaughlin has been ruled out by Denver.
The MAVs have ruled out Luka Doncic for Thursday's game
against the Clippers because of a left heil contusion that
kept him out of practice the last two days. Kyrie
Irving is questionable with right shoulder soreness. In college hoops,
number fourteen Oklahoma stays undefeated after edging number twenty four
Michigan eighty seven eighty six with the four point played

(26:42):
by Jeremiah Fears, who ended with thirty points. It's the
first time since the twenty fifteen to twenty sixteen season
that the Sooners have started eleven and no.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
Number eleven.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
UKNN extended their winning streak to five with the ninety four.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
Eighty nine win over Xavier in overtime.

Speaker 5 (26:56):
In college football at the Art of Sport LA Bowl
Number twenty four, UNLV defeated Cal twenty four to thirteen.
Rebels will finish the season eleven and three and have
their first Bowl win in twenty four years. Washington State
transfer quarterback John Mattier has committed to Oklahoma. He announced
himself on social media he will have two more seasons
of eligibility. And lastly, here a couple two more things.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Do you guys hear this?

Speaker 3 (27:20):
That Cardinal Star third.

Speaker 5 (27:22):
Baseman Nolan Adenaldo invoked his no trade claws to block
a deal that would have sent him to the Astros.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Nobody wants to go to Houston.

Speaker 5 (27:28):
And on the ice maple Leaves beat the Stars five
to three, the Panthers outscored the wild six to one,
and the Ducks ed the.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
Jets three to two.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
It's been fun guys.

Speaker 3 (27:37):
Thank you a great one. Ssne I will thank you,
thank you so much.

Speaker 6 (27:44):
You want to, I will be here said other words.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
No, yeah, if I'm not here, I would have bought
a chicken. Bake a chicken.

Speaker 5 (27:52):
Oh no, I want a cheese corn dog from California Adventure.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
Okay, yes, Harmon will bring it back for you. Yeah,
he's that kind of guy.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
Perfect love it.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
Thanks mich thank you.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
Hey, before we get to this, uh, uh tell you
where the number one sought after head coach the off
season is going to end up in the NFL?

Speaker 5 (28:12):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (28:12):
So you just brought the story. You know.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
While Oklahoma's got the new quarterback, Washington State starting quarterback transferred.

Speaker 4 (28:18):
Washington State also lost their head coach.

Speaker 1 (28:20):
Today, who a year ago is like I'm here, I'm
loving life everything else. Boom Nope, went and got announced
as wake Forest new head coach. They have now lost
ten players off their first or second string roster and
they're gonna play Syracuse in a bold game in the
Holiday Bowl next week Holiday Holiday holley Ball. Nobody is
opted out for Syracuse like this is like, I honestly

(28:43):
this means nobody. I would not be no frand Brown
basically is making he's bullying everybody into you will stay.
He said, Kyle McCord's playing. Before Kyle McCord made his decision.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
No, we don't opt out of bowl games. But Washington State,
I would not be surprised if they said sometime that
day or so, we can't do it. We've lost so
many we've lost our quarterback, we've lost our head coach.
Lot just like Marshall opting out because all those players
in the transfer portal, Like, now you've lost your head coach.
How many how many guys are going to hit the
portal now that your head coach just left today And
it's happened like lightning. That is like I think the

(29:17):
Washington State A D said they woke up today and
this is the first I've heard about the coach leaving,
and he's gone, and he was introduced as wake Forest
new head coach. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if now
suddenly Washington State pulls out.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
Of the holiday.

Speaker 6 (29:28):
He found out on Twitter.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Yeah, I got on social media. How did you let
coach go? Oh man, I gotta look.

Speaker 6 (29:34):
This up, spreads now Syracuse favored by fourteen. Yeah, I've
seen some estimates that they would expect it to get
to eighteen maybe nineteen before this kicks off.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
I mean, I really I wonder if they're going because
if you're already down ten, got ten players in the
in the two deep in the two deep depth chart,
how many more people you're gonna lose? Now they're gonna sell.
Oh yeah, I'm going, I'm going.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
I'm going.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
Coach is leaving, I'm going.

Speaker 6 (29:55):
Yeah, No, I mean it's getting floodgates are opened. And
we talked about it a lot last night with the
hand ringing and whining about the process and where the
portal is, you know, to the point we spoke spoke
of was got a lot of guys that were going
to opt out anyway. Yeah, Now, if they've got an
offer to go somewhere else where, there's a financial inducement

(30:19):
or promise of playing time, always both, that they're going
to activate it now, like you're not gonna sit around
for another three weeks or a month. If that's the case,
And if you have a head coach who just says, hey,
I'm done, I think you'd be a little bit better
in terms of the messaging and correspondence and as an

(30:40):
administrative staff, you'd be able to read the tea leaves
knowing that he was going to be wanted for an opportunity,
so you wouldn't be caught with your proverbial pants down.
But certainly it's a difficult proposition. The optics are bad
for everybody involved in certainly the bowl system, which is
already under siege and has been hell for as long
as you and I've been doing in the show.

Speaker 8 (31:00):
There's too many balls, mediocre team.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
Now the players will leaving. We can't even play it now.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
Now bowl games roll all the way through to like
the end of the first week of January. There's so
many it's great, all sorts of betting opportunity and stuff
for us to watch chaos. I mean, last night we
had that gem of a finish. Was he giving himself up?

Speaker 6 (31:21):
Was he not? Did the ball get punched out tonight?
Gronk running around with a heavyweight belt.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
I look at it like this for teams that now
this is going to effect, because this is how college
football is going to go for at least the next
couple of years until there's changed. Is that I understand
it's difficult, right for a team like marshall when when
you lose people off, you're too deep And I get that,
but you still have a big enough roster, right And
and are you the coach of the too deep or

(31:48):
are you the coach of the one hundred players on
your team right? The sixty that that that play when
you travel and the hundred that are on the team
when you play at home?

Speaker 5 (31:56):
Right?

Speaker 4 (31:56):
Are you? Are you the coach of those players?

Speaker 1 (31:58):
Are you the coach of the school that gets to
go to a bowl game and make money because you
go to a bowl game? But that's it, like it
does if you look, no one can I mean, yes,
will you remember a big time if you go to
a bowl game and get absolutely rolled? Of course?

Speaker 3 (32:11):
But it doesn't. But it doesn't. Would you rather go
to a bowl game or not go to.

Speaker 4 (32:14):
A bowl game?

Speaker 1 (32:15):
Like I think there would be some players who would
love to get out there and play.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
And if you get beat bad, the.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
Other team can see that they understand, Okay, we're gonna
run the football now and we're up forty to nothing,
and that's how it goes. But it's still a bowl game.
It's still the reward you play and coach all year four.
I feel like some of teams when they say they're
not going, it's like I'm gonna stand in the corner
and hold my breath because I don't like this. And
again I'm like, okay, but if you're going to play
in the Holiday Bowl or the LA Bowl, you're not

(32:42):
playing for.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
This is not the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
This is you're playing one game and it's over, and
you get to practice longer.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
That's it, because you get.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
More reps and everybody gets more practice.

Speaker 6 (32:50):
Maybe with those guys not being around, the guys that
are transferred out, guys that didn't get a chance to shine,
maybe during this season it's a bigger, stronger whatever. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
And if if you lose, you lose, right, you're playing
football and and and no one's gonna sit back and go,
oh man, I can't believe that happened.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
I can't believe.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
Look at that. Look at that bowl we just saw.
People aren't gonna remember that game. But you get to
go and play in a bowl gaming get the big
swag bag. It's a reward. Your school makes money, you go,
you go to play at a place like Marshall or
watches it to go to a bowl game.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
You do.

Speaker 1 (33:19):
You don't go thinking I'm gonna play for the national time.
Do you want to go to a bowl game? And yeah,
While there's maybe fifteen guys who are leaving, you got
eighty other guys who say, hey, I'm ready to play.
I'm ready to if we get killed, we got like
like I've never played a game before. My team got killed.
It's a ball, it's an exhibition game, it's a bowl game.
It doesn't count for anything. Go and still, but be
beholden to your players that you've had with you all

(33:40):
season long, that you say, come here and we'll do
great things together.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
Go and play.

Speaker 6 (33:44):
Which is the better optic quitting and saying well this
this system isn't fair, or going out and actually competing. Yeah, right,
coach left, these guys left all right blank them. It's
us now let's go like that. That's the message I'd
want to send, and I would hope as an administration
and those players they roll in with their uniforms and say,
I want to play.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (34:05):
Exit out by a Fresca exit Swallen Dome.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live from the
TIREC dot Com Studios coming up next, well previous Thursday
Night Football and tell you who the number one most
sought after NFL head coach should be this offseason and
where he's gonna end up.

Speaker 4 (34:20):
That's next Jason of Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
Remix Uh uh just wait you.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
Christmas, Just wait Jason, Wow, the Belichick Brady Grong have
yourself and Mary.

Speaker 6 (34:55):
That's pretty impressive remix.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
Hey you can do that?

Speaker 3 (35:00):
Ah say, I think you could do that? No, No,
I can't do it. Can't do it.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon Live from the
ti rag dot Com Studios. We'll give you our final
pick for tomorrow TNF a huge Titanic game with AFC
playoff implications between the Broncos and the Charges. But first, Buddy,
I'm gonna make you happy now, I said a few
weeks ago. Look, it seems like Mike Vrabel is ticketed
for the Jets right he already had. Apparently there were

(35:28):
some conversations that went through intermediaries that put out the
message that hey, Rabel's okay taking.

Speaker 4 (35:34):
The Jets job.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Doesn't have to worry about upsetting Bill Belichick, especially because
Belichick called the Jets and they said no.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
But with more smoke.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Surrounding Vrabel and the Bears opening, I read a couple
of things today that if Rabel took the Bears opening,
he might make Tommy Reese's offensive coordinator Dan Orlowski already
said today on espno, I.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
Think Vrabel's spoken for he'll be back. What do you mean?

Speaker 1 (36:03):
And he said, oh, well, he'll be back coaching football
this year. There's been too much to connect Vrabel to
the Bears the last few couple of weeks to the
point where I think that's just gonna happen, that we're
gonna Rabel.

Speaker 3 (36:15):
Is gonna be the Bears head coach.

Speaker 1 (36:17):
And it's a great fit because Rabel really should be
the number one sought after guy this offseason, because, yes,
Ben Johnson's got a great system in Detroit. Sometimes the
great coordinators turn out to be really good head coaches.
Sometimes they're not because they don't bring the players with
them in the great system they're running wherever Ben Johnson goes.

(36:39):
He's not bringing Jamir Gibbs, and I'm on rothe Brady,
he's not bringing those guys. You also have to now
be in charge of everything. Right, look at what the
Bears just did with Tomas Brown. Hey, we're gonna promote
you to coordinator. Great for a week. You got to
stop the backslig and you need someone who's going to
be the CEO of that team. And as much flak
as I give Dan Campbell for being guys campbelling and
his risks are going to kill the line, but he

(37:01):
is one of the best head coach in the NFL
because he has built a culture and he has built
a winning way that the players have bought into. And
Rabel's kind of like that. It's kind of what he
did in Tennessee was really successful. One bad year he
and the GM got fired.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
It's like, wait what.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
So he's kind of like a Dan Campbell where he's
a culture guy, he's a player.

Speaker 3 (37:20):
Buy in guy, and he's won with less talent.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
I know the Bears seem like they're a tire fire,
but when you compare him to the other tire fires
out there, this is a low flame tire fire we
can put out with a small fire extinguisher. And he's
gonna come in and it's a very attractive job. Because
you have Caleb Williams that you're gonna be in charge
of making him good. So it's almost like he's your guy,
because it's not like, well, I got to come in

(37:44):
and figure out how to co exist. No, I gotta
make Caleb Williams good. His body language is bad. We
don't know what kind of player he's gonna be after
this rookie year. You have a lot of weapons. You
have DJ Moore, you have DeAndre Swift, you have Romadonsay.
You have a pretty good base to work with in Chicago,
even though it's dysfunctional. You fired a head coach this year.
Uh Vrabel to the to the Bears feels like it's

(38:05):
the solidifying moment, especially since they look in their division
and see Dan Campbell doing what he's doing. They see
him two times a year. They see what he's done
with the Lions. He should be Rabel should be the
guy the teams look at and say, he might be
a Dan Campbell, Let's give him another chance. He should
be at the top of the list. And I think
you're getting him.

Speaker 6 (38:25):
Well, if I'm Mike Rabel, I'm not taking the job
because I still have to deal with Bears.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
Administration and ownership. You want to deal with the Jets administration,
want to deal with the Giants? Come on, where do
you want to go?

Speaker 6 (38:35):
I'm not saying any of them are any better. Maybe
the Giants are because you would get rid of Shane.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
But you have nobody who you who your players on
the Giants, you have elite neighbors and maybe Thimbadeau maybe.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Yeah, you know, I was, I was.

Speaker 6 (38:50):
I was working up first, okay, and then I could
work down okay, like with the Bears. Yes, in theory,
you've got good personnel. You certainly have enough skill position.
You can go fix the offensive line. You know that
Ryan Poles, the former offensive lineman, was supposed to do.
He's an empty suit. He'll be fired three weeks from now,
and you'll have Kevin Warren just declare himself I'm the

(39:12):
captain now, which is why there was no c on
Jalen Johnson.

Speaker 4 (39:16):
Yes, I think they did that. Go Jersey, Oh right,
where did that go? Just where this one is?

Speaker 6 (39:22):
I think Kevin Warren opens his suit coat and he's
wearing a giant. See, I'm the captain. All of that
to say, like there's still too much managing upward that
you'd have to deal with before the roster. I'd love
it by far and away. He's the best option you
have because you're looking at retreads, you're looking at you know,
coordinators and wishing that they can take their their act

(39:44):
to the next level, and maybe they can't. I'm not
buying it, but I like your optimism.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
Tolley Man. I think it's a fat accompany. I think
you're getting him and you're gonna love it. Now there's
a night football. Yeah, give me the under Give me
the Chargers. They flip the narrative on big games and
instead of giving it away with bad fourth down decisions.
Another Jim Harbaugh. They win this game seventeen sixteen.

Speaker 6 (40:06):
Nicely done. I'm going to take the over. We get
into the twenties, but it's Dicker the kicker. Ooh, and
that defense taking care of business.

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
