Speaker 3 (00:45):
He is the way.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Tire buying should be. Well, we'll preview Broncos and the
Chargers coming up in a few minutes. But I'm gonna
have to change a big bold prediction that I made
a couple weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Okay, I'm good to chalter time down distance.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Because new things are coming up, and I'm realizing that
something certainly looks like it's just going to happen, its
a matter of time. No, that that's just that's always happening. Hey, yeah,
we didn't make the playoffs again. Ah, that's great.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
That ship is already saled, so to speak.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
It's not like we have the longest uh drought in
North American sports.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
No, yes we do. Oh man, come on, why why change?

Speaker 4 (01:28):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yeah? Listen.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Look, people always talk about you want consistency, continuity, and
rigidity when it comes to your values, beliefs and how
you approach things.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Jets, you're just doing that because if I was more chaos.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
If I was on a deserted island and then I
got rescued like Tom Hanks, and I was gone for
I wouldn't want to miss up Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
I don't want to all of a sudden you come
back like the Jets.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Oh yeah, no, they've been terrible. Oh really, I've been
gone for twelve years. Yeah yeah, but they haven't made
the playoffs since. Wait wait, the Jets lost the AFC
Championship game. I got on that FedEx flight. I was
on this thing with Wilson. We played our own Jets
seasons for like eight years. Well, I won Super Bowls
on that island. We didn't make the playoffs since, No, no,
are we any closer well, you do have Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
That's awesome. Remember he's forty.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Oh that stinks. Okay, Well, I'm glad I didn't miss anything.
You know what's funny is you do bring up Wilson.
At some point there was because we are in Los
Angeles for those unaware, broadcasting from the tyraq dot com
Fox Sports Radio studios, there was a secondhand sporting goods
store down by me that at one point had like

(02:34):
four of the wilson I don't know how big a
release it was, but like in a bucket of soccer
and volleyballs or whatever, there were several Wilson's, and they
wanted too much for what I was willing to pay
for the giggles of it. I'm like, should I buy these?
Wondering if it's a decent turnover? Can I They're actually

(02:54):
they're actually worth like four times what I would have paid.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Oh see, cell, you made a miss so you could
have got that.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Yeah, but I would have had these little scary look
at Wilson's.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Is that the worst thing in your in your house
right now?

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Honestly, really really really well the giant rocky horse. Maybe, Okay,
I think you have much worse the carousel horse probably
would be a little more frightening. I bet you have
a collection of clown masks that are that are extremely
frightening that you.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Have in a room somewhere. No, no, like, how does
he know?

Speaker 1 (03:31):
How does he know about that secret room with the
soundless hinge? When it opens? It's in that room with
them watching you. Okay, but this I thought for a while,
when the Jets fired Robert Sala and they're sitting at
what's going to happen? Jets were gonna get Mike Grabel
right because there was there was kind of the stories
that were floated out there that hey, he's okay with

(03:55):
coaching the Jets, doesn't need Bill Belichick's okay to coach
to coach there because you know Belichick. But no, out
I assume you wouldn't have worry about because Belichick called
the Jets and the Jets said no, thank you.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
I thought, I still want to know more of that.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
I want the luds. He didn't call the Jets. He
would have said it. He would have said he didn't call. Yeah,
but who's believing he would have said?

Speaker 4 (04:13):
People would yeah if he if he went and started
banging his fists saying there's no chance I did.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
He would say, there's so many.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
That have decided that he must be the absolute act
of desperation to take the North Carolina job, that yes,
he would have called the Jets.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
He would just like, no matter how much like, look
at all my phones, here's my I called thirty teams.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Well, who didn't you call it? Well, the Patriots and
uh and the Jets. I called everybody else.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
I mean, he would have sub tell me thes wouldn't
want him back right now.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
But the more smoke that is out there, especially say, look,
Danie Rolobski, who knows Mike Rabel, talked about this earlier
on ESPN. I think Mike Rabel has spoken for what
do you mean? And he said, I think you know
he's going to be back in the end. He's going
to be back in the NFL where he's going to
be coaching somewhere. And I've seen I think it's just

(05:03):
a matter of we've seen stuff the last couple of
days connecting him to the Bears. Potentially he could bring
Tommy Reeson as his offensive coordinates.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Connected to but the but the Bears.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Seems because well, the Raiders have a coach right now,
right like the Raiders have a coach, but it's the
teams that don't have the quote permanent head coaches that
are sitting with interim guys like the Jets and the Bears.
The more time that goes on, and it's a great
fit that Rabel to the Bears is going to happen.
Like if I had, if I had to put all
my money on what's gonna happen. He'll be the number

(05:38):
one guy that teams are gonna want in the offseason. Yeah,
teams are gonna want Ben Johnson. Look at what he's done,
but not always does a guy with a great system
where it works with certain players translate. Now he's going
to be a great head coach. Maybe he is, but
maybe he's not. We know that Rabel's been a pretty
good head coach fired kind of weirdly a few years ago.
GM in Tennessee was fired kind of weirdly a few

(05:59):
years one down years, and otherwise had been pretty good.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
But you've obviously got the change in ownership and whatever
else floating there.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
And honestly, I'm more excited about a guy like Vrabel
than I would be about Ben Johnson, which is so
great but he's got such a great system. Yeah, the
guy turned down interviews last year. How much does he
want to be a head coach. He's waiting for something specific.
But you've seen this year the new what's in vogue
now is the CEO head coach. Right, Dan Campbell has

(06:29):
gotten all of the attention throughout the NFL. Right Why
because he instills attitude, He knows what buttons to push.
He is He is a He is a players coach
from the perspective of he knows how to get the
most out of his players. He has the right people
call and plays. Obviously, he has the right coaching staff.
That's what's more in vogue than Hey, let's go get
somebody really smart. That's a great offensive, offensive minded head coach.

(06:52):
So that's going to be difficult. It's difficult to make
that big sell when a guy like Vrabel's, well, he's
run a program, run it pretty well. Now we're gonna
give him a chance again. And and he's gonna have
money wherever he goes. But he'll money with the Bears,
will have more talent with the Bears than he had
when he's with the Tennessee Titans. Rabel to the Bears
makes so much sense. I can't see it not happening

(07:12):
at this point. Maybe Brian Florest gets involved, he'll be
another guy really sought after because of his history and
now what he's done with with the Minnesota Vikings, and
then he will get it. He will get another chance too.
But I'm telling you, man, if I could hire one
guy in the offseason, because I look at Rabel and
I go he's kind of a Dan Campbell. They're kind
of the same guy, except Campbell was able to really

(07:34):
take the assets that he had and really multiply them.
Because as much as you want to say, look, Rabel
had some talent there in Tennessee, you don't and not
have talent. You have Dereck Henry and you make the playoffs.
But you're looking at at at Detroit and it's gibbson Montgomery,
and it's Laporta and Saint Brown and Jamison Williams, and
these are all terrific players, and and and Jared Goff.

(07:54):
You're able to Hey, the once Ballely who Jared Goff,
we had a great early career, then not so much.
You turned him around, like he's had way more weapons
than Rabel had. But I think people are gonna look
at them at the same and go, man, look at
what Dan Campbell did. He can do that. Mike Rabel
can do the same thing. Is the same kind of
no nonsense players coach that he's gonna hold him accountable,

(08:16):
but they're gonna want to play for him. I mean,
when it comes out, he's gonna be the number one
most sought after guy. And I don't think there's any
way he's not.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
With the Bears. They're the Bears. Yeah, I mean the
Bears can screw it up by like, oh.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
You got a guy sitting in the GM chair who,
at least from my look thirty thousand foot view, I'm
not in Chicago.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
They'll have a.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Former GM at Tennessee to help. They'll hire him to
be the GM in Chicago to do.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
Nothing right.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
Now?

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Yeah, right, so all of the well, what does Ryan
Poles want to do? It's what does Kevin Warren want
to do? And he's who do you want us to hire?
So he could be Sam Weinberg from a few good men.
I have no responsibility who puppet until he gets thrown
out of his office, until they take the title away
from him and Kevin Warren just takes that role on

(09:07):
and adds it to his list of official responsibilities, which
is where it is anyway, the curiosity and going through
Vrabel fully again the Bears. In theory that makes sense.
In practice, I'm doubtful. Well, there's always the Bear, don't remember.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
The Bears can screw it up, right, But that's the point, right,
it can be all thought you were texting about an interview. No,
you said you were gonna text him. I wrote it down. No,
I wrote you said you were gonna I didn't text them.
Can we get Mike Rabel's test? Oh, it doesn't matter.
He just took the job of the Jets.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
What It's the same thing with the Jets.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
I'll believe it until I don't, until you know, I
have to see him as the dais same thing with
the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
I've got to see him at the day.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
But here's the I believe it, And here's why this
is bet that this is this is better, is that
the Bears are a team that Yes, do they have
some dysfunction, yeah, but a major already. The dysfunction was
brought on by the head coach and the situation surrounding
Eberflus now he's gone. Okay, so who's running things that
they still you know, we know who's running things. There's

(10:11):
a lot of talent there. It's young. It's an opportunity,
whereas with other teams, it's this team is a tire fire.
Who's the coach this this? But the Bears are an opportunity.
But sit with me for a decade. You're telling me
it's all ebra flus. Go back to the coach before that,
coach before that. Who's still in charge?

Speaker 4 (10:29):
IBRA mcs M and allis.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
Are still running this show?

Speaker 1 (10:34):
I did the The Eagles can fight with each other
every before every game and still win. You can bett
fight Chawie Roseman is a professional. You might as well
build a damn statue I am relative to one city
looks just like just like it's it's Kevin Warren's team,
just like the Big Ten is Kevin.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Warren's conference, just like it's his team.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
It's it's Howie Roseman's team in Philadelphia, and they find
way we talked about this a week ago, imatchulates everybody
else is to all that take Uh, the Eagles function
and they thrive in dysfunction.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
Right, But he's a guy that still evaluates things well
and and does things well. Ryan Polls, Kevin Kevin Warren
had to sign off on it. That's lost out a
lot of these people. The fact that he's signed dude
three years, thirty million dollars quietly in week eleven, the
big offensive lineman that you went and signed, he got released,
and then you go and you allow him to start

(11:23):
a guy who was no better than putting in actuals turnside.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Screaming so loud. You've known this for a while. Man,
you don't need to be that upset. These are things
that you have known. Sugar want Okay, yeah, you went
from boy, I got a little blood sugar too, I does
I does that?

Speaker 3 (11:39):
All guys of tugger up feeling good. I really haven't
had a lot of sugar. I don't know what's in
that package.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
All but all of that to say, just chugging kool
aid right now, caramel didn't drink yess, that's the thing.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
I got that kool aid. No but but MIXI sticks.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
But I went loud, I went loudly. Make you understand
how great the situation is. Indeed, it's so close.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
It's so close that they're seeing how Detroit has taken
to the next level because of the culture that Dan Campbell.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
That's it. It's easy.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
I don't want to say not even the Bears can
screw it up because clearly Bears, but this man, the
fact that Ray and this is it's still a destination.
Other places aren't, Like no one wants to go coach
the Raiders or the jow But the Bears, because of
the talent they have, are still a destination. And it's
hey can you can you come in and make Caleb
Williams into something and you get a mulligan when you

(12:35):
come in, because yes, it's Caleb Williams second year, but
his first year has been so rocky that it's like
a first year for you. It's like when Peterson came
into Jacksonville, Hey can you it's a mulligan year because hey, yes,
Trevor Lawrence had his rookie year but it went so badly.
It's like, this is his rookie year, so okay, he
had that mulligan to make Trevor Lawrence better. Now he
hasn't won and they haven't gotten any better, and Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
Is just a guy.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
But that's the situation that Rabel will come into I
would say this if if I'm Mike Vrabel, I am
walking in with one of those binders larger than anything
Scott Boris is ever put together.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
These are my my demands. If we throw touchdowns here
have how many people will come to the games. We're
sold out, we have a we have a season ticket
plan sell out of sixty years.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Legitimately, this is my demand.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
You guys get the hell out of my way because
you saw what just happened.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
What do they do?

Speaker 5 (13:22):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (13:22):
We fired eb flues. What are we gonna do.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
Let's promote the guy that we literally just promoted, the
offensive coordinator the business.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
I know, I know, dude, it's just such a failure.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
So unless Mike Vrabel gets to be emperor and literally
that becomes his title, sure, and everybody else just gets
the hell out of his way. I'm not taking that job.
I'd rather go be I'd go rather go run the Jets. No,
that's how bad the infrastructure in Chicago. You're gonna work for,
You're gonna work for Woody Johnson's kid. Let's get it
right O. My sweet brick, my sweet brick, break. What

(13:57):
should we do?

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Exit out bout a Fresca Exit Swallow and on the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon live
from the tire rack dot Com studios. I'm telling you
Mike Vrabel number one choice of any team, he.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Will go to the Bears.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
Proof of concept. Everybody else is a giant question mark.
The other guy that should get a look see is
Aaron Glenn, but that's a story for another time.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Coming up next, Jason Cole NFL Inside It Shortenaire stops
by all the latest on the Bill Belichick contract.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
Will he actually coach a game at North Carolina. We'll
take a look at.

Speaking of someone who is here to talk all the
latest news in the NFL. He is a long time
NFL insider. He's with the thirty third team. He is
helping the Jets pick their new GM and head coach
yay Is. He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
It is the aforementioned very good radio guest, Jason Cole.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
What's happening, Bud?

Speaker 5 (16:40):
I'm a great radio our test either one. I'm fantastic.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
All right, Well that I'm feeling pretty good, you would.
I'm feeling pretty good.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
About It's a holiday, holiday, holiday season, and you're feeling good.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
Happy holiday, Happy holidays. Boys. I am happy for you
that the Jets are finally winning some battle with Aaron
Rodgers against Ryan Clark. Look, I'm though, I'm really I'm
not sure, What's what's worse? Like this? Aaron Rodgers taking

(17:13):
a fight with Ryan Clark or Michael Jordan punching Steve
Kirk like which which which one is? Is a more
fair fight?

Speaker 6 (17:23):
Well?

Speaker 5 (17:23):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
I'm not for punching, So I would say the I
would say the fight that's going on now between Rogers and.

Speaker 5 (17:28):
Ryan Clark, the verbal jousting that they're having. Yeah, yeah,
it is quite the snooze fest. I have to say
what Ryan Clark. Ryan Clark's trying fifty different ways to
like to prove to everybody, Well, I'm really not taking
a fight, but I'm taking a fight Ryan on it. Ryan.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Yeah, but that's the second best story that came out today.
We're chopping up a little bit earlier. Is Brick really
running the show the seventeen year olds?

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Oh god, oh my goodness, is what?

Speaker 5 (18:04):
I don't know? What are you talking to?

Speaker 1 (18:06):
There's reports out there that Woody Johnson listens so much
and makes decisions because of what he sees on social media,
and he listens to his kid who's in college right now,
whose name is Brick Brick Johnson.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
And not one today.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Oh you missed that one. Oh, Okay, all right, that's fine.
If you want to go past it, that's absolutely fine.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
No, he's going to go do the deep dive research
on this to find out if he's true, so then
he can start texting you and mocking you.

Speaker 5 (18:31):
We're going from listening to my boss, Mike Tanner and
Bob and the thirty thirteen. She's listening to Bricks as
Value as he does a deep dive research into how
to run a football team through social media.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
Hey, listen, I've seen Tanabou make HighRes. That's a lateral move.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
If I ever saw one.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
God the other words, the other word, I can't anything.

Speaker 5 (19:00):
I'm almost speechless on this one. But if he had
signed social media to decide who the jets next head
coach would be.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Oh, Ryan would win. If you did social media, rex,
Ryan would win. He would be the next Jets.

Speaker 5 (19:18):
He would be. And actually that's not a bad that's
not a bad choice because he's probably the best coach
that that So that end.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
You know, another thing we're kind of chatting up a
little bit here. J Cole, who's winning the Mike Rabel sweepstakes.

Speaker 5 (19:39):
That's that's really interesting because he's gonna I would think
I would think it's going to be Jacksonville because they
have a quarterback that he probably thinks is good.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
He's not, though, But he he's just a guy.

Speaker 5 (20:01):
He's really not.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
He's just a guy. He's just a guy.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
He's a little bit better than just a guy because
he does have physical skill right like he does he
can fire the ball. I just I always go back
to there's a missing ingredient in Trevor Lawrence, and I
don't think it's He's not a bad guy. He's not
a lazy guy. I just don't think he has like
the mania that you need like Drew Brees or Peyton

(20:29):
Manning or Tom Brady. All those guys have a level
of maniacal behavior that makes them remember everything that happens
and what's going to happen. I think he's one of
those guys who's like, yeah, I'm just gonna kind of
go out here and wing it to see how it goes.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
That's how I went to college.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
It was awesome all how I went to college too,
So I highly appreciate the method. The results are generally
not good, which is why we're here.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
And you did that at Stanford. I mean I did
it at Syracuse where Hey, let's expected. You did it
at Stanford.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Man, it's like higher education.

Speaker 5 (21:10):
Trust me, trust me? How you know? Like you talked
about toasting. Yeah, I was like, I got in cool.
What else do I have to do? Well?

Speaker 4 (21:20):
Yeah, go ahead, I busted my ass in Northwestern. I'm
still here with you.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
So there, Yeah we all found our level.

Speaker 5 (21:29):
Yes, no, yeah, see, I think that Rabel has to
do seriously, is he gonna get the team that has
the number one overall pick? And does he believe that
either cam Ward or should your Sanders is going to
be the guy? Or do you believe in Trevor Lawrence?

(21:52):
You know, this is a this is a really kind
of a complex equation, like and do you and you
waited out and waited out to see you who's get
the number one pick? Or is there some hiring that
before that? And the I mean, I I they won't
do the hiring to laughter the season. But the other
side is are you gonna work if the Raiders get

(22:14):
the number one pick? Are you really gonna work for
Mark Davis? Now you got Brady there, and so Brady's
a great buffer, but so Mark Davis making the final decisions,
And I mean here's not, So what do you do?

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Jason Call our guest to Jason Smithson with Mike Harbon
live from the tire rec dot Com studios. All right,
speaking speaking of what you can do here, speaking of
what you can do, I think my favorite NFL story
of the day was that Michael Pennix Junior found out
he was a new starting quarterback of the Falcons having
a hot dog at Costcoso.

Speaker 5 (22:50):
Hot dogs are really good, they aren't they?

Speaker 3 (22:52):
I mean?

Speaker 1 (22:52):
And the best part is the price has remain the
same even through all this inflation.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
The prices remain the same.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
A dollar ninety nine you get a soda and and
a hot dog. Like that's a that's a bargain.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
He's already showing good decision making job that strong decision making.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
I mean, it really is, like I mean, because think
about this, he's he's he's saving money, you know, to
be shopping boat. He's both shopping at Costco and he's
getting the hot dog. Right. So this is a guy
who's forward thinking and you want you want that when
you when you're thinking very quarterback. So I like the
fact that it's at Costco getting hot dog. I appreciate

(23:27):
the pizza not so good, really not. You know, it's cheap,
but it's not it's not very good. I gotta said that.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
You got, you got, you got chicken bake, hot dog
there at the top the next level.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
You want to go pizza and then.

Speaker 5 (23:38):
You can go BA is a chicken bake actually that good? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (23:42):
Yeah, it's a good way. Yeah, it's very tasty.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
And it's big too, like like you can have like
half of it and then bring it home and have
the other half.

Speaker 4 (23:49):
Of The one you get at the food court is
much larger than the one you'd buy in the front.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You got to make sure
you get fash yeah, oh.

Speaker 5 (23:55):
No, the food court. Yeah, you gotta go food court.
I mean, you don't want you want the hotspit. You
want you don't want to take the frozen stuff back
and go home. If you want right there, you want
to get it while you're in line, because then you've
got to go to your car and you've got to
unpack everything individually, and you've got to fit it all
into the trunk of the car so that it it's right,
especially when you have you know, like I have, you know,

(24:17):
I have a coop, so you know, I don't have
a lot of room here, so I got to like
fit everything just right. So it served a little bit
of a you know, playing Tetris. Yeah, so I got
to have the hot dog before I played Tetris. But
I've never had the chicken bake, so I got to
try that someday if that's really good. The pizza I've
had me and man, I haven't had the cookie. You know,

(24:41):
you know is a cookie? Any good cookies?

Speaker 3 (24:44):
Not bad? I mean I've had better. I mean I
bad good.

Speaker 5 (24:49):
Too, I have to. I was down in Los Angeles
last weekend. Guys. I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know you better. But I
was busy. It was looking you know, I have. I
had two really busy days doing research.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
Me and fucking Jeff Fisher, Me and Mike Tan and bound.
We're interviewing people for the Jets.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
Yeah. Yeah, I was meeting with Fisher out at a
tap high school. So that's what Yeah, because that's where
you went.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
Jetson go seven and ten. That'll be great, be seven
and ten.

Speaker 5 (25:18):
Yeah, that's an improvement of what you got now. So anyways, Yeah,
so I stopped at Gelston's and got a chocolate chip cookie,
quality cho chocolate chip cookie Gilson's I got. I said
that you don't.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
Get breakdown like this from a Pro Football Hall of
Fame voter like Jason Cole.

Speaker 5 (25:34):
Just any it was a nice combination of the brown sugar.
It was really, really, really done match.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
I guess you know we know, all right.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
So from from Michael Pennick Junior eating the host dog
at Costco to Michael Pennock Junior actually on the field
and playing, I felt like this was a movie. You
had no choice. If you were the Falcons, you had
to do it. And this is gonna this is going
to bring life to the team. They're a game behind,
they'll win the tie breaker, Like you had no choice
but to do it at this point, Well, if.

Speaker 5 (26:01):
You're going to have any hope of actually winning a game,
I mean, you know, God blessed, you know, Kirk Cousins.
But man, that that arm is is better than the depths.
So I mean, like, what do you what do you
do with that? I mean, he just can't grow right now,

(26:21):
and I don't know if he can ever be fixed.
I hope he can't. I hope he gets his legs
back a little bit because he can't grow right now.
I mean, it's just there's no way around this. So
Pennix is the only answer, especially again if you you
have to be able to attack the field and they
can't attack the field right now. It's I just it

(26:44):
makes me think of Damon Heure. Damon Newer is a
great guy, right and it was a really fine backup
quarterback for I don't know, eighteen years NFL. But when
he had to start for a long period of time,
and this happens with a lot of you know, lesser
armed quarterbacks, you just see the defense shrink and play smaller,

(27:06):
smaller and smaller areas, right like to just play this
really tight umbrella coverage. And that's what's happening to Cousins,
right Like, there's no room for him to throw and panicked.
I mean, the one thing about Pets he can win.
I mean, like he can really really throw. You know,
I like the move, It's the move they had to make.

(27:26):
It's basically the same thing that you know, the Steelers
move was a little bit different because you knew Justin
fields had certain limitations and you had to eventually get
to a real quarterback and Russell Wilson's close to that,
but it's the same idea. If you're going to have
any hope of doing any damage in the postseason and
trying to make something out of season, you got to

(27:47):
go to a guy and actually functionally play the position.
All right.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
Lastly, tomorrow a de facto playoff game. We've got Chargers
hosting the Broncos Flex Thursday night.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Can Jim harbaughs off rise up enough to win this one?

Speaker 5 (28:04):
Defense like show up too? And it didn't exactly show up?
I hate, I was just.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
Looking at that one as an outlier, but yeah, yeah, I.

Speaker 5 (28:13):
Mean I kind of do. I mean that, you know,
when when when Baker gets hot and Evans gets hot,
sometimes they just get our role sort of the way
the games they had against Philly earlier this season, you know,
even as limited as they are as they are, But man,
I like Harbaugh and what overall. I like where the

(28:37):
direction of both these teams, and I like where the
AFC West is going, and that there's actually going to
be a battle in the next three four years. The
chief will probably still winning because they do have my homes,
but at least I think it's going to be kind
of a fair fight with some interesting games with the Raiders,
of course, just mopping up last place year after year

(29:00):
like Eternity. But I kind of like the Charge those
a little bit more. They're a little bit more consistent
than what I see out of the Broncos. At the
same time, the Broncos, when they can keep themes under
control and keep them from getting wild, they've tended to

(29:23):
be more competitive. So this this game can stay in
the low twenties, maybe into the high high teens twenties,
Broncos have a pretty good shot at this game.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two, that is
at Jason Cole sixty two.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Brick baby, yeah, go, oh my sweet brick, my sweet brick.

Speaker 5 (29:47):
You're gonna go what's that character from the The Avenger movies?

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Groot Yeah, groot, Yes, it's work. I am grooted.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
That's how it works with the judge. That's the only thing.
That's how the coach speak. Oh okay, great, we'll do that.
That's gonna keep it simple. He's gonna go look up
that story right now. I gotta find that story, Jacob
Jason story. How about home Off and Putty Johnson listening
to his kid Hey, Dad, here's the thing, all right,

(30:17):
DeVante Adams stinks.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
He stinks. Oh and now he's good.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Never mind, never mind, Everything is okay, it's fine, it's fine.
You got you're in of salad, Dad, He's terrible. You
got you're of Joe Douglas. Dad, he stinks. People on
social media say the same thing. Do you fire him, dad,
or I'm not your son?

Speaker 3 (30:34):
Okay, okay, okay, we had a good run. Call him up.
Hey Joe Douglas. Sorry, my son says, you have to go.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
My son's on social media says, look at what people
are saying about the Jets. That would be so on
brand for the Jets exit up bout a Fresco exit,
swollen down. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon, Live
from the tirerec dot Com Studios.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
Uh now to someone.

Speaker 1 (30:58):
Who's gonna tell us what's trending in the wide world
of sports. It is the one and only Disneyland approved
monte Bolao.

Speaker 6 (31:06):
Yeah, because I give Disney all my money. That's why
I'm approved by.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
I told me you spent like two grand. This is
what I'm saying.

Speaker 7 (31:11):
I give all my money, all of it.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
They get it all every month.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
All the money you spend gambling, and winning gambling goes
to go to the mouse.

Speaker 6 (31:20):
It goes right to the mouse's straight to the mouse, exactly.
College hoops is wrapped up, guys, and the last game
absolutely delivered. Between number fourteen Oklahoma and number twenty four
A Michigan, the Sooners were down by three. Jeremiah Fears
hits a three, gets fouled all with eleven seconds left.

(31:40):
They take a one point lead. After he makes the
extra point, they hold on.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
They win.

Speaker 6 (31:46):
Oklahoma stays undefeated. They edge Michigan eighty seven eighty six.
It's the first time since twenty fifteen twenty sixteen season
that the Sooners start eleven and oh so the last
game absolutely delivered. While the Yukon Huskies eleventh ranked Yukon
Husky's have won five in a row, the top Xavier
in overtime ninety four eighty nine and number six Alabama

(32:07):
defeated North Dakota ninety seven ninety Thirteenth rank Gonzaga crushed
Nichols one.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
Oh two to seventy two.

Speaker 6 (32:14):
And number nine Marquet bounced back with an eighty to
seventy win over Butler. We have one college football game
going on. It's the LA Bowl and UNLV twenty fourth ranked,
DUNLV still on top.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
Of CAL fourteen thirteen.

Speaker 6 (32:27):
This was the halftime score and now there's two and
a half minutes to go in the third, so not
a lot of action. In baseball, Cardinals star third baseman
Nolan Adanado invoked his no trade clause today to block
a deal that would have sent him to the Astros.
Nobody wants to go to the Astros.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
Tell me we're not going to contend.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
Without telling me we're not going to contend, I'm blocking
a deal with the Astros.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Exactly exactly if nobody wants to go to the Ashoes.
But you'll know what pitchers are coming. I've been fine
without that so far.

Speaker 6 (32:53):
In the NFL, New Seahawks quarterback Go Smith, who left
Sunday night's game against Green Bay with a knee injury.
He was listed as a full participant in practice day. However,
Seahawks running backs Zach Sharbonat didn't practice today because of
an oblique injury and Kenneth Walker didn't practice because of
a calf injury. But Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes was
also a full participant in practice today. For the second

(33:14):
straight day, despite injuring his ankle during week fifteen during
Thompson Robinson is going to start at quarterback for the
Brown Sunday against Cincinnati, and the Giants planned to start
Drew Locke at quarterback against Atlanta this Sunday. And on
the ice the Jets, the Jets see they're tied against
the up The Jets can't stop the Jets. They're tied
against the Ducks one one after the second period. The

(33:36):
Panthers are now on top of the wild for to
one after the second period.

Speaker 7 (33:40):
Back to you guys, thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
Let appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen live from the
tirerac dot Com studios coming up next, without a doubt,
is my favorite story of the day, and it goes
along with the biggest story in sports the last week.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
It was bigger than the hot dog story. Yeah yeah,
yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
Well this is more of my favorite story, okay, and
it goes along with the biggest story of the last week.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
We're all just a few of your favorite things.

Speaker 1 (34:06):
Coming up next Round'm like Oprah and you get a
hot dog and you get up Jason and Mike, this
is Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
My upset special Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show
with My bas friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 7 (34:30):
Jason, you only seem like you liked the song.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
I like the song.

Speaker 7 (34:32):
Yeah, yeah, give me little simmy shake well, stanky leg.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Give me give me this thing.

Speaker 4 (34:42):
As everybody starts looking around the corners to see if
they what kind of dancer.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
I was just waiting to hear like, you know, naughty
by Nature opp in the middle of this song, or
something like one of the matchups that Tysher's been playing
the last few nights. Well, he's got to keep you
honest by playing one straight now and once in a while.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
Now, I could go for I could go for the
side the box all the time.

Speaker 4 (35:02):
Maybe he wanted to do it and then realized he
needed a dump button and added on it before he
could push it.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
Tysher was also taping his anime podcast at the same time. Instead,
here's a I.

Speaker 7 (35:13):
Don't do that anymore anymore. I'm retired from anime.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
He decided it got too big.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
Bump bump, He liked it when it was an indie band,
and once they went mainstream.

Speaker 7 (35:24):
He tapped out, Mike, tell me the true say Afghan
Wigs blew up. Would it be the same to you
if all these other nonchalants come up, it would be
a little different, right.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
Yeah, but they walk around. But I told you my
favorite band was the best band. I told you about it.
But there is something about.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
Evangelizing for twenty years and finally in almost thirty years
and recognizing greatness.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
My band is the best band. It was so good,
The band was so good.

Speaker 7 (35:50):
No, Mike, I get you, but I think there's actually
like a lot of validity to gatekeeping. To be honest
with you, Dad.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
I don't want to get too big.

Speaker 7 (35:56):
No perfect example, the whole Marvel thing. When I was
in high school, maybe you guys too. If you had
a Captain America shirt, you were shoving a trash can.
Now those same kids are taking their kids and acting
like they loved it.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
What Yeah, well that's true. Now they're shoving kids in
trash can.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
Why did you get shoved in a trash can? Because
I stand up for truth just as the American way. Ah,
you idiot, that's Superman. I'm shoving a trash can myself,
but you're the proof, said, I don't care. I was
a daredevil guy. Never question Bruce Dickinson. All right, see
old I was country when country was my favorite story

(36:29):
of the day, My favorite story of the day. Because
this is either hey and I got it. It's either
to give credit or it's just you know, a way
of them being bitter controlling. Right, what did I say
last night? The Yankees with all their signings right after
Sodo went to the Mets. This is them trying to
win the breakup, right, trying to I want to show
you that I'm moving on, living my best life before
you do. They're so mad at Sodo. We're going go

(36:51):
out and give Max Freed all this money, we trade
for Devin Williams, we go get Cody Bellinger, we do
all these things they wanted. We want to be the
first one and happy hour amongst all our friends and say, yes,
I've moved on. I'm living a great life.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
Right.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
That's a better analogy and analysis than just saying, hey,
Brian Cashman remembered how to do his job again.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Oh well, it's a better way to do it. But
today you know, and look, what did we see?

Speaker 3 (37:14):
What did we hear?

Speaker 1 (37:15):
That was at the supposed that what could have been
at the crux of why Sodo chose the Mets. He
liked the way he was treated by the Mets better.
The Mets gave him a suite for his family to
use at the ballpark, and supposedly there were some stories
that the Yankees weren't great with Soto's family on a
couple of occasions, and Steve con has been nothing but
generous and wonderful.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
Let's go. You know, you guys can use whatever you
need to.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
And Soo has said that, Hey, the way they make
my family feel like family is fantastic. Right, So what
do the Yankees do today? Max Freed gets introduced to Hey,
you know the big, big acquisition a couple of days ago,
and the first thing at the press conference is you
see the Yankees giving Max Freed's mom and his girlfriend flowers. Ah,

(38:01):
this is either we we we hey, we understand, we
don't know how to woo a modern superstar for a
lot of money because you walked away, or it's just see,
I want to.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
Show you we can give flowers? How can give flowers?
As somebody if I wanted to. I just didn't want
to give them to you.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
I gonna give it flowers to your family, Soto, but
I didn't. I want to give flowers to Max Freedz
family instead. I see, I'm winning the breakup. Like again,
it's the same thing. It's Hey, maybe we learned our lesson,
and I give the Yankees credit, But at the same time.

Speaker 3 (38:29):
Boy, it just it just feels like it's more about
the breakup.

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Hey, you know Charlie took his new girlfriend to the
Taylor swift Ara's concert. Oh yeah, Well, I'm gonna go
to the Taylor swift arasconcert Vancouver, the last one.

Speaker 3 (38:40):
I'm gonna go with somebody else. And I don't even
know that I met on Craigslist because I think that's safe.
So I'm gonna do that to go win this breakup.
Like that's what the Yankees are doing. One they literally
gave her flowers.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
Flowers you handed a guy at two hundred and eighteen
million dollar deal. So immediately in my head the Miley
Cyrus song starts playing. I could buy myself flowers, rad
my name in thesand dot dot dot, But yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:10):
I was thinking more pulp fiction. Flowers on the wall.
You got that other me at all?

Speaker 3 (39:15):
No, it's again when country was a cool.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
Hay in Solitaire till dawn with the deck of fifty one.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
All right, smoking cigarettes and watching and we watched that Dangaroo.
We watched Captain Kangaroo with Share last night.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Yeah, you showed me a real weird video of Captain
Kangaroo with Share for no reason. I don't know why
you would have.

Speaker 3 (39:35):
Been searching that had showed up in my just say, hey,
look what's on my phone again?

Speaker 1 (39:38):
I I go to your house, and I gotta feel
like it's kind of like a sports version of silence
in the lamps show up there.

Speaker 3 (39:45):
It's a veritable treasure trup. You have no idea what's
gonna pop around? Hey, what's in this box? Wow?

Speaker 4 (39:50):
I forgot I had this. Certainly that is the case,
There's no question about it. But yeah, the Yankees are
are certainly hitting the We're trying real hard. It's almost
like Brian Cashman after the Sodo thing had gotten a
commission together. What am I doing wrong? Where are we
not making the right pitch? And this is what they

(40:11):
came up with. Give them flowers, literally, give them flowers,
not treat them well. Not hey, you know, take them
to the finest restaurant if they want to, you know,
they want to go on a trip, give them the
corporate jet or whatever else. Nope, literally give them flowers
at a presser.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
Let's have the optic that we really can.

Speaker 4 (40:31):
You might as well have walked out with the novelty
check that written out for the two hundred and eighteen
million dollars.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
I could have given your family flower soda, but instead
I wanted to give flowers to somebody we hadn't signed yet.
I had those flowers in my office for a week,
just waiting to give them to whoever was going to
show up.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
I found out your favorite food was actually from this
small mom and pop place in the Philippines, and we
had them flown in to make you admit dinner.

Speaker 3 (40:56):
Really wanted to win the day. You should have had
Stanton deliver them to Bellinger's wife.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
And coming up next, we got something from the NFL,
I promised Fox
