(00:49):
should be well number one. What everybody listening right now? Hey,
you know, just just take a take a second, thank
whatever karma gods you pray to in sports that Woody
Johnson is not your owner. Just have just for a
second just understand a things might be, bad, things might be,

(01:10):
but understand that at least your owner is not deciding
on making trades because of a player's Madden ranking. Okay,
understand that that is a that's a thing, that's not
good and that you shouldn't wind up having to deal with,
except in this case I do and the Jets do.
So just be happy that Woody Johnson is mine and

(01:32):
not yours.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Well, I mean, that's part of what folks have tuned
in all these years about, is the living vicariously through you.
So they get the thrills and the anger and then
they can leave it here with us at Fox Sports
right now, come in and get the anger and righteous
indignation and bang the table and then just laugh and go, oh,

(01:54):
that's Smith's problem. That's not my that's not my reality.
I'm over here, la la la. We're nine and five,
nine and six, I'm doing show Angels in a courtyard
and happy as hell.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
It sounds like it's a story out of the Onion.
I mean that the Jets it turned down a trade
for Jerry Judy. The report from the Athletic the Jets
turned out of trade from Jerry Judy this offseason because
Woody Johnson didn't like his Madden rating. And that's a
real story. That's a real thing. And now a story
we brought you a little bit early last night that
Woody Johnson's son, eighteen year old Brick Johnson.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Oh my sweet, my sweet, so obsessed with that's.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
All I think. I think of Steve Carell running a
football team that Brick Johnson runs the football team like
his voice is just as big as anybody else's, whether
it was general manager Joe Douglass or anyone else. Like
he's got his big a voice. Joe Douglass reportedly said,
I answer to a teenager. You know what I mean.
It's this is how the Jets are run. That's why

(02:55):
I say he is. Woody Johnson is every bit to
Jerry Jones, except he's not as public about it like
Jerry Jones wants to. Hey, if we're going to be
a train wreck, I want to be public about this.
But even Jerry Jones doesn't do this. I don't know
what to say about this, Mike. I'm being real with
you when I say this might be the rock bottom
for the Jets in their entire franchise history. I don't

(03:17):
know that there's a more embarrassing strictly sports story. There's
stuff you get outside of sports for different teams, but
strictly sports, I don't know that it gets more embarrassing
than my owner veto to trade because we didn't like
his Madden rating. And when the Jets were trying to
defend this story, they came to the Jets for like,
they didn't really say, none of this is true, all
of this is false. It's well, you kind of moved

(03:39):
a little bit, like the Madden rating is kind of
a thing we look at a little bit, but you know,
it's not quite like even the Jets go, yeah, this
is kind of how it's been. I mean, I don't know, man,
I really, I don't know that there's a more embarrassing story.
Then the owner wouldn't make a trade because of he
didn't like a player's Madden rating. If Jerry Judy had
a maybe his Madden rating was eighty three as eighty one.

(04:00):
Oh we're gonna trade for Jerry Judy, and it would
have been different this year. I mean, just the fact
that that's a thing. I mean, And then you know,
with Brick Johnson having just as big a voice in
his dad's ear as Joe, I don't know what to say, man.
This is why like I can't even wear my Jets
gear I get. I just feel like people are laughing
at me as I'm walking down the street wearing I
can't do that, man.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
I would put a camera somewhere. I mean, you got
mini cameras, the spy cameras and stuff. I would wear
one in my hat and just go back and watch
the footage after I'm done. Right, people snickering or pointing, laughing?
I mean, come on, think of what we can get
some viral videos out of this. Jason walks the streets
of LA and Jets gear.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Dad. Why are people just laughing at you? Just keep walking,
Just keep walking, don't worry about it. Everything is fine.
Just keep walking.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
No.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
I look, you know my own name. My old rule
of law with everything is if you're gonna fail, take
your best swing at it, no spectacularly. And in this case,
I mean, this is glorious.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
This is like who's gonna come coach this team? Who's
gonna come be the GM When I'm like, oh, I
knew it was a clown show, but I didn't know
it was this kind of What.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Did I tell you about the Bears yesterday?

Speaker 1 (05:10):
It's not too far from there. You look like the
forty nine ers of the eighties compared to the Jets.
Come on, man, you look like you like the New
York Giants of the nineties and the early two thousand.
I'll try to bring that weak candy ass Bears. Oh
look out, better take that out.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
We're still I'm rejecting you, Matumble with the finger wag man.
You are not getting too soon. Come on, man, you
are getting.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Shout out to Kembe. But it was just that idea
of uh the eighteen year old having that much clout.
I mean, I saw this story right. Obviously, I'm a vampire.
I'm kind of I have a very weird sleep schedule,
you know, trying to uh as we do the work
at night and then get the kids moving and get
a few minutes before their days begin upper early. And

(06:00):
this story hit and I'm like, god, I really want
to send this to Smith and started asking it. There's
no chance in hell he's awake. So I'm sitting on this.
My brothers texted to me. They're like, dude, you think
we're bad because you rant about the Bears and everything
in Chicago, Like and I do, and I do it. Well, yeah,

(06:20):
it's all out there for all to see. Latest on
the Sammy Sosa fun is up on your socials at
Swollen Do. I'm at Fox Sports radio, whatever. But it's
the the idea of all right, as bad as we are,
I'd love to see what would be the equivalent for
anybody else's organization. At this point, you know we're bad,

(06:41):
and let's bury, you know, like, let's go figure out
the reason why. Normally it's just a slap fighting ego
contest between a couple of people over what their titles
are gonna be and who has the ultimate authority i e.
Who gets to make the phone call to say, hey
you're hired or hey you're fired. Right, that's a lot
of organizations, not just in sports and the teams you follow,

(07:04):
but all of you in your lives. You understand that
in your office, the levels of middle management and who
has more clout than the other. But it's now just
that that pull back the curtain here and do we
find anything is ridiculous if we got the truth about
other organizations. The answer is probably not.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
No way, No. That's why.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
I mean, unless someone's got a magic eight ball sitting
out there, or they're holding the sealds at the Haunted Mansion.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
The Madden rating, son, what do you think? Joe Douglas says, No,
I don't trade for that. Guy, Daddy stinks. Sorry, Joe,
let's move on. Let's find someone else's Let's go, what's.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Does mad rating? Now you gotta understand, Dad, I just
ran the table with this super team I assembled. So
right now he's at an all time high.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Oh who's on that team? Well, I have Davante Adams
and Garrett Wilson. Oh, I'll trade for that guy. I
was able to put in Vone Jackson from nineteen eighty
seven in here. I really don't know that there's a
more embarrassing, embarrassing store strictly sports about a team than this.
Like this is just like I said, I do even
know what to say. I really know what to say.
I really don't.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
Well, but look, you were riding high off of everything
with the Mets. They had a great run. As you say,
you've got the the three most important component parts in place.
I got an owner who's got a giant wallet. I've
got a great manager, and I've got Sterns at the helm.
I've got everything.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
I don't know. I'm all in on the teams that
do things right, my teams that do right.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
But that's my point is that the sports gods lower
g uh, make sure there is balance and definitions kind
of like the force. I'm a balance in the force.
You're trying to bring equilibrium.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Yeah, I know, aren't supposed to be the chosen one.
I got the Mets, I got the Knicks, I got
Syracuse football. And I mean you got Martin.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
To lead with big big modega.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Yeah, I mean, how about did you pay him? Oh,
Dag's gonna be the NBA MVP this year. Come on, man,
he's sitting threes, He's doing whatever. This is the best
Karl Anthony as good as he's been. This is the
best Karl Anthony Towns has ever played in his career.
He is like he is reborn. This is funny.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
I will say this. I did appreciate and you know Martin,
Martin weise with us. Check out him his work on
Twitter and certainly with us Fox Sports Radio. He had
the note where he's talking about the guys from the
Tea Wolves, all their beat riders, going you know, hey,
this is the guy you wanted out of town because
he couldn't defend. This is the guy you were running
running out of town because he was lazy on defense

(09:35):
or missed a big shot and you hated him. Stop
Stop with your belly aching and whining tonight. And I
certainly saw a lot of it in my timeline as well.
We've got our friends back in the Twin Cities and
obviously all of our friends in the New York media
and in the Fantasy Land and whatever else. But yeah,
your guy, I mean, he's getting least getting you through.

(09:58):
So you know, once the get to twenty twenty five,
you're still gonna have Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
So that's good. I told you last night he's gonna
be starting and how bad. And you know, Aaron Rodgers
knows all of this, right, you know he knows all
of this, right, who knows everything going on? Mad rating
all this? And he still has said yesterday, yeah I'll
come back, I'll take a pay cut, I'll mentor a quarterback.
Like how down bad does he go? I can't believe this, man,

(10:22):
it really is. The Jets are nothing for me, and
I'm only gonna play with this clown car of an organization.
And I gotta sit here and eat a big bucket
of crap to say I want to come back and
play for them next year. This is this is embarrassing
even for me, man, I can't believe I gotta say this,
but it's the only place I'm gonna play, so I
gotta say it. Hopefully my Madden rating. Oh wait a minute,

(10:43):
if my Madden rating gets too low, they'll get rid
of me and I can go someplace. Oh wait, okay,
I got that. The last three weeks, I'll play bad,
so my Madden rating goes down. Boom, there's my strategy.
That's what I'm doing. No, I like it.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
I like the Rogers strategy. No, it's it's good. It's
come on back. It'll give us another year of fodder
and another year of guys propping up their resumes to
fight him and whatever else unfolds. And maybe Garrett Wilson's
a jet Maybe he's not. How about that?

Speaker 1 (11:12):
That was the other thing.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
I mean, you kind of buried the lead that you're
leading receiver. May or may not want to stay around
with the team. He doesn't want to report to break either.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
No, Garrett Wilson says he doesn't know if he wants
to stay next year. Supposedly, Woody Johnson cursed out Mike
White and told him he stunk after a game in
twenty twenty two. Like this is like they're never gonna
get anything right, he.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Would have had a national holiday from Mike White if
it was up to you.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
All right, So let me ask you this now. Yeah,
let me ask you this now realistic question because now
we got to get to a big story out of
the NBA. We saw a history in the NFL tonight,
the first free kick field goal in the NFL since
nineteen seventy six. But something else historical happened in the
NBA tonight. Who was worse the Jets today or Draymond
Green the Jets today at all time low? Hey, we

(12:02):
are hitting the bottom of the barrel here and maybe
this is rock bottom all time or Draymond Green today?

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Jets?

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yo?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Je, Well, let me throw this out there so let
you you can uh.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Do you give everybody the specificity? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (12:16):
The Grizzlies thumped the Warriors tonight one for ninety three.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
This game was never closed, the Golden State never made
a run, and the Grizzlies wind up winning by fifty
three points. Draymond Green tonight, here's his stat line. Nineteen
minutes played, no points, no rebounds, Raymond You two, no points,

(12:44):
no rebounds, no assists, one steal okay four turnovers, four fouls. Okay,
now that's that, you say. Okay, well, wait, at least
got steel.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
So it was goose eggs all the way.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Yeah, yeah, no, no, yeah, goose eggs. He had a steal
and then four fouls and four turnovers, but no points,
no rebounds, no assists, a steal. Now you could say, Okay,
that looks like a bad night, right like, but I
can see guys having nights like that. He played nineteen
minutes who were getting killed?

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Okay, he didn't impact the game, and yeah for the night.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Yeah, Draymond Green, no points, no rebounds, no assists, one steal,
four turnovers, four personal fouls, and minus forty two for
the night. That means in the nineteen minutes he was
on the floor, the Warriors got out scored by forty
two points. I defy you to find me a less

(13:41):
efficient basketball game in NBA history since we've been keeping
track of plus minus. Now we're only going back a
few years, but we're still in the aughts with that,
I defy you to find me a less I guess
that's how you would you would you, that's exactly how
you would say.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
Evidently, Henderson had a minus fifty eight on March twenty
ninth of twenty twenty four.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
Yeah, but did he score any points?

Speaker 3 (14:06):
I don't know. I just you gotta get gave me
the rest of the bax Ai just gave me that.
But I mean, but look, I just went for worst
plus minus a.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Less efficient game because you have to do you have
to talk about the points he got. He actually if
he becomes box scorty, I mean, I mean, dude, minus
fifty eight is bad. I'm not saying it exacular, but
this was zero's across the board for Draymond Green except
for a steal and oh, by the way, four turnovers
and minus forty two. Like I like, you gotta give
me Scoot Henderson's you gotta give me his stat line,

(14:34):
and if it's just as bad, I'll say, Okay, you're right,
that's the worst one. But I don't know, man, zero
zero zero, zero one steal, four turnovers and minus forty two.
I don't, I don't. I don't think you're gonna find
a less efficient game. I really don't.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
It's pretty impressive. You know, what you did is absolutely.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Nothing good, not one good thing did you do and
you were minus forty two.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Now, henderson did have twenty points in that game. Okay,
by get getting at this though, Smith. All right, so
twenty points, six assists, seven turnovers, and his forty one
minutes played. That's only in the sidebar kind of box score,
like we were mocking old box scores before. In the
actual article, it doesn't mention anything positive.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
It just talks about where.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
Record breaking miserable night that it was, and there was
a guy named Manny Harris who had the previous record
at minus fifty seven.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Now here's the thing, because it is tough to be
minus twinsy minus sixty seven. Is that minus fifty eight
minus fifty eight when you score twenty points, Yeah, that's
really impressive. However, however was twenty and six and his
minus fifty eight was over forty minutes. Draymond's minus forty
two and nineteen minutes. Okay, I think that's less that's

(15:48):
less efficient. I don't know how you would figure out
the efficiency, but I'm sure there's a way to do
these sufficiency John Hollinscher could probably do it. He's up
somewhere in all his text. Bucher figure it out, Yeah, Buker,
I don't know a less efficient game in the history.
I don't know if I really think so this.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Is really I mean, what a record breaking night. It's
been an honor to be here with you guys, Patrick
and Alex and of course Martin Wood was with us
Ian's in the back, and you Jason Smith. I mean,
I feel just so embold and we got a Chargers win,
some chaos there and then Draymond's statline and the Jets.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
I mean, that's what a day is that really is
We had his something we haven't seen since seventy six
in the NFL, and we got this from Draymond tonight,
who exit out about a Fresca exit swollen down The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon live from the Tirack
dot Com studios. Coming up next, we break down the
huge Charger win, taking a giant step towards the playoffs.

(16:43):
They beat the Broncos thirty four to twenty seven. You
want some great Jim Harbaugh and Sean Payton stories, we
got the right guy dialed up coming your way. Next.
Jay Glazer stops by with stuff you have to hear
about both of these coaches. That's next, Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon, Ty Shirts, got Elmo and Patsy on
a Loopyah nice, Thanks Fin.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
I'll play the real one.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
It's good to playing the same one.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
It's just you got got, you got got?

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Do you get Reindeer roll? Is that what I got?
That I get Rudolph Roll? Is that saying you got Rudolph?

Speaker 3 (17:37):
The next alvel?

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Now sounds like it might be I got Rudolph rolled?
Oh okay, all right, Innovators, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, LIVETHTIREC
dot Com Studios. Big win tonight by the Chargers. They
beat the Broncos thirty four to twenty seventy game where
it looked like the Broncos were doing ever the hell
they wanted to in the first half and the Chargers

(17:58):
had no answers in all of a sudden second half
was a script flip from the first. You get a
big kick to end the first half, the first free
kick field goal in the NFL since nineteen seventy six.
When Ray Wershing also did it for the Chargers. So
basically every forty eight years, the Chargers will make a
free kick.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
More than doubles life and it's oh yeah, dude, there's
like six generations of cicadas that come and go by
that it's like, oh, why did I miss the last
thirteen years?

Speaker 1 (18:26):
But look, both teams we talked about the future of
both these teams. The eras of both these teams are here.
They're not close to the to the versions of themselves
they're going to be, And it's it's bad news to
the other thirty teams when Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh
are this good, this early in their runs, when they
don't really have a lot of guys where there's a

(18:47):
most of these guys will be gone from both these
teams next year as better players come in to take over.
I mean this is we saw them play tonight. They're
both pretty both teams are pretty good. But man, as
good as they are that they got a long way
that ceiling is pretty high above him.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
No question about a big win for the Chargers. Dicker
the kicker coming up big like we said he would.
Uh and Justin Herbert showing some some moxie, right, a
guy whose health was in question but made some big plays,
took a hit, maybe a little bit of Hollywood magic
on one of those. Uh, and all of it to say,

(19:22):
gus the bus help finish the job.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Best thing we could do. Right now, Let's talk to
Jay Glazer, NFL on Fox Inside or Extraordinary Stop Buy
with Us tonight. Jay, the big signature win for Jim
Harbaugh in his first year back in the NFL. What
do you take away from this Chargers victory?

Speaker 4 (19:41):
Well, I take away that, you know, obviously Jim Rbrook
changed the culture over there, and he's got about to
believe that. You know this, you just said gritty like
they made great halftime adjustments. They're brought into his culture, like, hey,
we could get our bucks with them the first half
and make an adjustment the second half and just come
out and fight harder. And and you're kind of believing

(20:01):
what they're what they're selling, and they did. They bought in.
They're believing them. Charger are a tough team, and you charge
are one of those teams that if you get them,
they're still but they're still building what the roster is
gonna end up being but there's still one of those teams.
If you get them in the players, You're like, I've
rather than not have them on my my kids in
the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Yeah, I mean, look after what happened with Tampa and
then certainly the first half year to be able to
go back to, as you've dubbed it, the culture of
violence with Gus Edwards in the second half wasn't happening early,
but sure as hell happened late.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
Yeah. Absolutely, you know it's so funny too, and it does.
You know. I had Kim all about my podcast earlier
this year, and one of the funnier things she said
to me said, he loves Justin Herbert. Obviously, he said
Justin Herbert he could play defensive end. I'm like, come on, dude,
he goes. I'm like, you mean what he goes, No,
I mean he could play defensive end. Like he's that
gig and athletic construct. And he's like, but he that

(20:57):
he has this signal where and obviously you know, you
guys know traying Derwin James and talk to Derwin about it.
He goes, he just makes you he just makes you
feel like you believe in yourself so much and Jim
makes you believe in yourself so much, and man, he's
time to just buy it in. And I think, but
Jim Harball we're seeing now is a different Jim Harbll.
We saw his first goal around in the NFL. I

(21:19):
think he's way more like secure Jim Harbaugh as far
as like man, he won a national championship. He's a champion.
You know, it's just he's just he's a lot. He's
just a fun character to be around.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Man. Now, the flip side of this, obviously the Broncos lose,
but this is a season that I don't think had
many Broncos fans saw coming. They're still in the driver's
seat for the playoffs at nine and six. I mean,
this has been some kind of push by Sean Payton,
who this is also still not nearly the Broncos team
you're expect him to see once he gets it all
loaded up.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
Oh, absolutely not. And that's the thing. They don't really
but they don't have the weapons that you know, they're
obviously would like to have to build around to have
a whole off season now where he doesn't have a
bunch of deadtop money for the rest of Wilson deal.
And and some other deals also, and to go out
and free agency and to build again through the draft.

(22:12):
And one thing I'll say this about Seawan, Sean is
probably the best coach in the NFL when it comes
to an eye for personnel. Like his eye for personnel
is just different. I remember back in New Orleans, he
got up and he bet everybody how great. They're like, hey,
in the second round, we're going to get this running

(22:35):
back named Alvin Kamara and he's going to be an
all Pro. And he actually like bet guys in the
County department. But it's like he really did. I mean
it's the same guy also who is trying to trade
up for Patrick Malmes without anybody knowing while Drew Brees
was still his quarterback, but he went bow Nicks. I
mean he had bow Nicks who was after they had

(22:56):
a one on one visit after his personal workout, and
he knew it back then. He's like, this is my guy,
the guy to the point I said on Foxing Something
a couple of weeks ago, I said, look, Sean's crazy
and he comes up with crazy ideas. But one of
the crazy ideas he came to me with was like, hey,
I'm actually I'm thinking of because I want to show
people that he was my guy. Along was never J J. McCarthy.

(23:19):
There's nobody else, always him. I'm thinking, how about this
for an idea, and this is how Sean talks. Hey, hey, listen,
hear me out. Okay, to hear me out. How about
I'm going to fly out to where bo is and
when it's our turn on the clock, I'm gonna knock
on the door and he's gonnable to say, hey, I'm

(23:41):
selecting you bow next first round. I'm like, Sean, no,
you can't do that. You're like, it's just He's like, no,
I why not. I'm like, well, I don't know why not.
It sounds crazy to me right now, but you know,
I'm not sure why not. But it just sounds crazy.
But he comes up these crazy ideas. But he's like

(24:02):
the point was, He's like, I want people to know
this was my guy. He is. I forever want people
to know this was not like bone Nick Fellow on
my lap. He's forever to know he was my guy.
Screams are private workout. That's why I had pegged and
you know, personalise. Like I said, he just made he's

(24:23):
really a he's a little evil genius.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
I like that David Baker twist of things. I'm knocking
behind your door. You're going to the Hall of.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
Fame, right, But I'm like God, I'm like, God, you
can't do that. He's like why. I'm like, I don't know.
I'm gonna let me think about this for a little bit.
But now he does come up with some great, crazy
ideas and like, like, listen when when he was with
the Saints and they were playing the Pults in the

(24:53):
Super Bowl, he actually had this guy, Mike Warrensteeter was
a legend already going by all the billboards okay of
where the coast we're going to travel to practice, and
he had them by the billboards and make him Saints billboards.
Like who. Shaw just comes up with different things, man, he's.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Crazy psychological warfare.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
I love Yeah, you know, and I would have loved
that idea, the bon Nicks idea. But you know what
would have happened, Jay, you put that out there, the
karma He'd have been driving to bon Nix's house and
you've got a phone call. Hey, yeah, sorry, but so
and so just traded up and drafted bon Nicks in
your car go back to the airport.

Speaker 4 (25:35):
I will tell you this. He was so neurotic the
day of the draft, and I think I told you
guys in the past. He got said bad information that
the Rams were gonna take Bonext and I'm like, and
you know, got support where even I was like, I
thought to Sean McGray about it, and I was like, hey, man,
cant tell him that you're dock like cause he's like,

(25:55):
I don't want to lose draft picks. He's like, yeah,
you could do it, like you know, normally these guys
hold the cult the best. He's like, we have nothing
to do, and I'm like, I don't want this guy
losing draft picks. Thinking of that, they've got to jump
up and you're trying to They thought the Rams were
going to move up for Boone Nicks and it wasn't
even that was never a They never looked at Bonicks,
but the Rams never had it. They didn't even like

(26:15):
think nothing. So Chong got set some bad information. But
the day of the draft, he probably called twelve when
we're doing the draft. Actually we're there in Fox Sports
Radio and I kept getting out of my chair to
go outside cause he kept calling, sure, are you sure
they're not caring about? How many times do I got

(26:36):
to tell you they're not getting They're not going after bonuts.
You're good, You're good, bonus, you're good. He was showing
a rock, but that was his sigh, this march man.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
That would have been a great extended scene for another
season of Ballers. Right there. Jay been a master negotiator,
master thespian right there, he's a Broadcasting Hall of Famer.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
He's a team out talking about balls real quick into
something literally on set of Ballers one season and they
were supposed to do a scene. I think it was
a Brady or BELLI something. They lost somebody and they
lost the big name like a Brady or Belichick, like
ah man, Jake, we need somebody to film the scene,
and ballers like they're trying to it's a free agency

(27:18):
visit for John David Washington, and I'm like, oh god,
I got the guy for him to go. Who I said,
Sean Payton. They said, you think you're doing I go
fly himself here in two seconds. Then a baller, I'm
here on a set of Ballers. They need a coach
to do the scene. Come in.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
He was on the next thing. Smoke and no question,
that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
That he was. He did as always, buddy, appreciate Hey,
happy birthday, my friend. We'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
I appreciate you. Man, God bless you.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
All the mass money be good.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
Just call Sean Payton just he'll come. He'll fly in
as they would have to put any money. He'll just
fly in his own dime, come into be on the show.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
Think about that. He's got one of those Boba Fett
jet packs. He's ready to go.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
Oh man, great. I knew Jay was gonna have great
stuff on both Harbaugh and Peyton. Then he did. And look, yes,
the Broncos didn't win tonight, and I think, look the
only downside for the Broncos. Okay, it's a little bit tougher,
but they're gonna go to the playoffs right there. They're
nine and six. They still have time to win one

(28:27):
more game. They would a clinch with a win tonight.
The big thing for me is that, boy, you look
so good in the first half, and you looked like
you were doing anything you want. What happened at halftime,
Like anything they did in the first half, the Chargers
had no answer for Oh screen third and eleven. We're
gonna throw a screen. It's gonna gain seventeen yards. Like
they did that the entire first half, and the Chargers

(28:48):
were able to stop that for the second half. To me,
that's gonna be the That's the big thing going forward
for Sean Payton is, boy, we're doing anything we want
to and then sudden he just stopped on the dime. Yeah,
I mean anything.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
The first drive right out of the half, they got
those three points back right eleven plays forty seven yards
and they took almost half of the quarter away but
had to settle for the field goal. And then after
that touchdown, Chargers punt, Broncos touchdown, Chargers punt Broncos, and
then the Chargers punt another punt before the touchdown drive.

(29:21):
So I mean, yes, sputtering early on, and that's the
problem is that, Look, they've been uneathen Like we've celebrated
some of the highs, but certainly there have been those voids.
And this was a huge loss. And now we look
at the Broncos nine and six, four and four away
from home, but the last two games of the season
at Cincinnati and then against the Chiefs. Now you're hoping

(29:43):
the Chiefs have nothing to play for. Well, the Bills
will have a lot to say about that, and all
of a sudden, the Bengals are still alive. That's the
fun of this, the chaos of this. For as bad
as their season has been, they're one and five at home,
yeah put in five at home. But they're six and
eight and that is your Week seventeen matchup.

Speaker 4 (30:22):
Now.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Let's find out what's trending in the wide world of
sports from Martin Whites. Martin Whites, what do you got
for us?

Speaker 5 (30:27):
The Chargers had a thirty four to twenty seven come
from behind victory against the Denver Broncos. Justin Herbert with
twenty three for thirty one two touchdowns, two eighty four
through the air in an interception Gus Edwards at sixty
eight on the ground, two touchdowns itself, and a long
run of forty three yards in the fourth quarter that
kind of.

Speaker 6 (30:44):
Salted the game away.

Speaker 5 (30:45):
We also saw history made at the end of the
first half as Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker made the first
fair catch free kick in forty eight years as the
first half expired. In the NBA, the Oklahoma City He's
Thunder beat the Orlando Magic one oh five to ninety nine.
The Chicago Bulls beat the Boston Celtics one seventeen to

(31:05):
one oh eight, just the Bulls' sixth loss so far
this year. The next beat the Timberwolves one thirty three
to one oh seven. Carlandon Town's, playing against his old team,
had a night thirty two points, twenty rebounds, Who's ten
to twelve from the floor. The Lakers beat the Sacramento
Kings one thirteen to one hundred. In the NFL, Saints
running back Alvacamaro his injury may be season ending, still

(31:29):
being evaluated. Spencer Ratler will be the quarterback of Monday
Night against the Packers. Lions running back David Montgomery spent
the last few days talking to doctors. They are now
optimistic that he should be able to avoid season ending surgery.
He'll try to rehab and return at some point this season.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is off the injury report good
to go for Saturday's the game against the Texans, but left.

Speaker 6 (31:48):
Tackle DJ humphreyes out with a hamstring.

Speaker 5 (31:51):
Wide receiver Hollywood Brown trying to make his season debut.
The Steelers have ruled out wide receiver George Pickens with
a hamstring injury and quarterback Justin Fields for Saturday versus
Baltimo more TJ Watt off to.

Speaker 6 (32:01):
Andrew report, he will play forty nine.

Speaker 5 (32:04):
Ers will likely be with our running back Isaac Garndo
with the hamstring for Sunday's game against Miami. The Jets
interview super Senior Bowl coordinator Jim Nagy for their general
manager vacancy.

Speaker 6 (32:14):
I'm Martin wiss back to you guys.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Thanks bunch, Martin appreciate it. Jason Smith Mike Harmon live

first week of the college football playoffs, we'll preview the
big game tomorrow night, plus tell you what story from
Today in Sports is going to wind up being an
awesome Netflix streaming show. That's next Jason and Mike Fox, Hugh,

Speaker 6 (32:55):
Okay, let me start you right there.

Speaker 4 (32:57):
The metsuck what.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
No drive by on the that's come on, man, you
gotta replace those those Mets with Jets. Then it's like, okay,
I mean, come on, do you have a story. We
had a story today where the owner listens to his
son more than and just as much as the people
on the team, and they decline to trade for Jerry

(33:20):
Judy because his Madden rating was too low. I man, yeah,
but make that Jets. Mets. We're doing things right. We
got one, so too, make it Jets man, Jets are
a clown show New York. Now, I will say this though,
I will see this. This is a TV show, and
I mean, this may be my best TV show idea
since Silver Dome.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
The someone actually put pen to paper on that, I know,
someone actually.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
Wrote a thing for it. I wonder how that ever went.
Now we get you know, three percent of the grossing.
So but like picture this like for Netflix, I would say, Okay,
an eighteen year old kid pretty much runs the professional
foot ball team his dad owns. Like that's a series, right,
Like that's a series, yeah, where where you know the
owner is somewhat aloof and a little weird, and like

(34:08):
like JK. Simmons would be the owner. Dylan Manette would
be the kid, like on break from his tour with
the Wallas. Uh that's pretty good, yeah right, And you
would get like Brian Cranston and Keegan Michael Key would
be the fired GM and head coach who keep trying
to get back at the team and back at the

(34:29):
kid because they think the kid fired him, right, I
mean like Jared Leto would be the aging quarterback who
doesn't know what's up. Frankie Munits could be the new
head coach who comes in with these all these great
crazy ideas, and you have the Cranston Munits dynamic again,
like this is a show. If you can make Chad
Powers out of an Eli Manning sketch, you can make
this eighteen year old kid pretty much runs his dad's

(34:50):
football team and it's a big dramedy. It's a little
more over the top than ted Lasso, but boom, that's
a TV show.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
Well, do we get the physicality that Leto was able
to get you during Morebius?

Speaker 1 (35:02):
Yeah, that's good. Oh yeah, I do. I want nothing
to do with Morbius with this. That's hey, it's fifteen,
Robert fifteen.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
You know who's gonna go back and watch it over
his holiday?

Speaker 1 (35:11):
Holiday?

Speaker 2 (35:12):
Holiday?

Speaker 1 (35:12):
You're gonna watch.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
I've been watching a lot of the holiday movies, though
today's I watched Day Never Never Kiss a guy in
a Christmas sweater. Okay, it was starring Michelle William's sister.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
Oh that was the name of the movie. Oh okay,
so that was the name. Oh okay, okay, I mean
it might be good advice. I don't know. All right,
all right, very good.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
As I sit around in my Abba sweater, people have
to say, so.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Remember earlier in the show where we when we first
started talking about the the the free kick field goal
by the Chargers, right first one in the NFL since
nineteen seventy six, and it was, you know, like it
looked like something from the CFL, right the way it
was with all there I just got a text from
my buddy Brad and Edmonton, who produces the Jason Gregor Show.

(35:56):
I go on the Jason Show in Edmonton on you know,
once every couple of weeks or so, and he said,
google it. We actually had a game in the CFL
decided this year by a rouge, which is just when
you have to kick the ball through the end zone
and as long as it clears the end zone or
it gets down in the end zone, it's worth a point.
Somebody won a game on a rouge. There was a

(36:18):
game winning rouge in the CFL. I mean, dude, that's
outstand I don't know, man, that's game. All we need
is a rouge. Just get a rouge. We can win
this game.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
By the way, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Don't die. I'm not gonna try to pretend I could
know the circumstances that would get you to a game
winning rouge, Like if you can win a game with
a rouge that's tied, Like do you really need to
kick field goals? Like I don't know, Like if you
could win but it's tied, we just need a rouge.
We're not gonna try for a feeling. I don't know. Like,
I guess that could happen. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
I feel like there's some research that needs to be
done here, and I want to go watch it live
and you know, and on tape tape to see how
that unfolded and what the reaction was on the broadcast
squad because we played it early ninety eight to seven,
all ninety eight to seven here in Los Angeles. Matt
Monty Smith, Daniel Jeremiah on the call for Chargers Radio

(37:06):
Network and they were beside themselves. So I can only
imagine ending a game on a rouge.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
Oh look at that ruge. You went right through the
no doubt about it, that went right into the stands.
That's so exciting.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
By the way, I want to kick you Bury. The
lead Global Superstars Jason Mike har with.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
Global Superstars Global. Now we turn the page from Thursday
night into Friday. The first college football playoff game tomorrow night,
Indiana and Notre Dame. Look, I'd love to pick Indiana,
but I just don't know how good Indiana is. And
this is part of the quirks. Now, when you have
the big big ten in SEC where teams are gonna

(37:47):
go eleven and one and miss a lot of really
good teams because of the way the scheduling goes. Like
you know, they played Ohio State, they lost by three touchdowns,
but they didn't play Penn State, didn't play Oregon. It's
how it's gonna go. Notre Dame is just a team
on another level. They are just at another level. They
are gonna run over Indiana. I know a lot of
people think it's gonna be close, but give me Notre
Dame Riley Leonard. They're all five yards of carry from

(38:10):
this Notre Dame offense. It's gonna look like a video game.
Give me Notre Dame thirty eight thirteen.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
Last odds that I've seen the line is actually it
has moved down one and a half points since it's open,
from eight and a half down to seven fifty one
and a half years total. I'm with you. I mean,
we're looking at a team that was efficient offensively Riley
Leonard over six yards per carry. I mean, both have
questions about what did the schedule really teach us except

(38:35):
Indiana in their two biggest tests. Look pedestrian, can Signetti
get the best out of him? And curious when the
running games are such a big bar of things you
know who's gonna be able to complete a pass when
it matters. Because we talked to weather forecast before. We're
talking fifteen to twenty mile an hour wins. Perhaps in
the frigid cold where the ball goes to die, that

(38:56):
could be a decider factor as well as the field
goal kick. So fun times ahead. We'll be liveing in
living color for you tomorrow night here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome, The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon. So there's
our picks tomorrow night. We'll tell you all the big
things we think about for Saturday's college football playoff. And
