Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my bes friend Mike Hart. Well, dress last show
you and I are going to do for the rest
of this year. Buddy, Yeah, quitter, I take a lot
of vacation because I get a lot of.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
It nicely done.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
That is a classic line hundred by many of the
legends in our business.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
No, it's been a hell of a hell of a year,
no question about it.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
We'll be finishing our eleventh year together. Eleventh year together. Wow,
We're play another eleven hop knock? What it feel? It
feels like it was just yesterday. You walked in with
pro fiderals for everybody, and you're wearing a dress shirt
and I met you for the first time and I said,
you don't have to wear a shirt like that ever again.
I never never have to wear that again.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
I mean, I thought there were gonna be cameras and
we were gonna be simulcast on television.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
That's what I was talking.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Did you really? Did you really? Do you really think
you really? You really did?

Speaker 3 (01:23):
It's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Look, I mean just say, it's just so weird.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
I really just wanted to intimidate you.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
You were in a dress shirt and dress Paine, I
look great. You looked like you were an executive, like, oh,
it's an executive, and now like what are you doing?

Speaker 4 (01:38):
And then you started yelling at me like we're an ontoice,
shut up suit.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
And now here you are, eleven years later, when it's
like twenty five degrees out late at night, you're still
wearing shorts into work.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
I do have a pair of beautiful pink checkerboard shorts
on a uh Kevin Owens just keep Fighting shirt and
my rolling Stones nit cap.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Well, very good. Yes, I think my favorite of your
outfits is when you you wear all the stuff up
top because you're cold, and then you still wear shorts.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Now, I mean, I gotta show off the cans. It's
like you're got to give the people what they want.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
It's like a reverse pyramid, like I got the jacket
and I have the knit hat and everybody I'm still
wearing shorts.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
But it does go back to those TV elements that
I was speaking of. How many times did you go
on set where maybe you're wearing shorts but you were
wearing a suit coat, tie and dress shirt.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Oh, and sometimes I would do with jeans, and I
never did it with shorts though I never did that. Hey,
I'm so cool. I'm just gonna wear shorts. Man, I'm
gonna I'm so hot. No, I never did that part.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Yeah. The whole thing is I want to be comfortable.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
I would do like jeans and stuff, and you could
be comfortable with jeans and apple bottom jeans from bottom
jeans jeans.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Uh, we're a lot of great holiday songs ever.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Fly from the tyrack dot com studios tyrec dot com.
I'll hope you get there. An unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tyrat dot com is the way tire buying should be.
Now we'll get to our big upset call for tomorrow
in college football, but I love the big debate that's

(03:09):
been thrown out there on social media following Notre Dame's
win over Indiana tonight, right twenty seven to seventeen, and
Indiana did not look good. It seemed better than it was.
It was a twenty seven to three game into the
final couple of minutes when Indiana scored an oh by
the way touchdown. They get the on sidekick and they score,
and they're able to score again, but then Notre Dame

(03:31):
finally gets the on side kick and they kneel on
the football and we told you that. Look, the big
knee jerk reaction from the CFP next year is going
to be. Okay, eleven and one team, we got to
look at strength to schedule because this eleven and one
Indiana team was not up to snuff. They did they
did not belong in the same field as Notre Dame.

(03:51):
You could tell right away that Notre Dame was just
going to use their talent and dominance to control the game.
And they did. I mean, this looked They looked nothing
like the Indiana team we saw over the course of
the season, where Curtis Rourke is making big throws and
making big defensive stops, and that's not there because they
didn't play anybody good and it's not their fault, and
it's it's the way the schedule goes. But when you

(04:12):
decide to add in fifty teams to every conference, yeah,
you're gonna miss teams. Right. There's gonna be twenty teams
in the Big Ten and every year a team is
gonna miss half of them. Right. So that's kind of
just how it goes. And the big debate's gonna be
in the offseason when I say, hey, college football, playoffman,
he's gonna say, okay, what was it? What would be

(04:32):
a better thing? Letting it an eleven to one Indiana
team that doesn't have a signature win, or an Alabama
team at nine and three that yeah, lost three games
but still beat three top twenty five teams and offered
one of the big dominant upsets of the year in
college football. And everywhere I see TODA on social media, like,
you know, I apparently I'm sure they're all SEC fans

(04:53):
who are throwing this out there. But you know, everywhere
I look, I keep seeing, Oh, Indiana didn't deserve it.
Indiana didn't deserve you know, And I'm sure that all
these are upset fans whose teams didn't make the playoff.
But I gotta say they have a point, you know.
I mean when when when you're looking at a sport
where you can't just win your way to everything, because

(05:16):
in every other sport you win your way there, right,
you prove yourself over the course of a long regular season.
You play everybody, everybody plays you, You play everybody in
your division in football, you play everybody. In Major League Baseball,
you play everybody in the NBA. But college football, yeah,
we're gonna miss half our division because we're after the money.

(05:37):
Where you know, we want to make sure that the
SEC and the Big ten of the two big teams
because eventually maybe we want to become our own college
football Division one one, a conference where we're better than
everybody else. Let the ACC and the Big twelve fight
for a second division title. I get that, but you're
also going to get situations like this where an eleven

(05:58):
and one team that you're not really or how good
they are are going to get in after tonight, not
that not that you didn't make the right decision, but
after tonight, when when you're looking in retrospect, can you
argue that, hey, maybe Indiana wasn't the right team to
be in there against that. Yeah, absolutely, you can, absolutely,
because Indiana it's not like they just lost the game.
It's not like they o a man you know note
you name kicked the field goal later, they had a

(06:19):
they had a big drive in the fourth quarter. Like
the beginning of this game, you knew Indiana was outclassed.
And that's the That's the biggest thing that the college
football's got to worry about, is we can't put an
outclass team out there because that just makes our playoff
look bad and that just raises all kinds of questions.
We already have enough questions about seating and about teams

(06:39):
making it in and conferences. We don't need another one
where hey, really, you let the wrong team in and
that's gonna be a big conversation. And I get that
a lot of it might be sour grapes from SEC
fans and teams, but I can't deny it for him
because yeah, I mean, I didn't know how good Indiana was. Hey,
it was great that on national TV they beat Michigan, Right,
I can't say it was great because my wife is downstairs.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
I mean, it was it was.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
It was very It was across the nation Indiana beating Michigan,
and it seemed like a bigger win than it was
because Michigan was not very good, and but it seemed
great because Indiana doesn't win games like this, and it
looks exciting. Michigan won the title last year. It seemed
like a big win when really it was Michigan lost
five games, right, same thing with Washington, like they don't
have that win. But all year it was just no,

(07:24):
Indiana is there. Indiana is in it. We're not say
anybody else because they're in the second the second best
conference or the best with one of the top two conferences,
and they have the second best record, so we got
to let them in. But that that doesn't that doesn't
make any sense anymore when you understand certain teams are
playing different schedules. And if they had beaten Ohio State, yeah,
absolutely let them in, one hundred percent. Let them go.

(07:46):
But the one game they played against somebody who was
really good, they lost by three touchdowns. Oh that's so
it's hard for me to have it trarked me to
have the back of that, and I want to have
the back of the small the smaller guy getting I
want to be able to have it, but but I
want to have the best teams in the playoff.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
H you just love the fat cat.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Look.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
I mean we always had problems with the four team playoff.
That was always the complaint, right, Ah, Look who got
left out? And then you'd have four teams complaining and
politicking and going up on stages and every TV and
radio show that would have them to state their case.
Which we had some of that as well this time around,
not as vociferous, not as many teams, but certainly for

(08:23):
Alabama it's sitting there. And I'll just go to this.
Forget about Alabama losing three games for a moment, Okay,
I'm gonna focus on one. You took a week off
by playing Mercer and beat the hell out of them
fifty two to seven on November sixteenth, and then came
out and got your ass handed to you by a

(08:44):
mediocre at best Oklahoma squad twenty four to three in
a game you were never competitive. So tell me that
that doesn't rank pretty highly.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (08:54):
The three twenty top twenty five teams, top twenty five wins, whatever,
and that Michigan team while you did strung with them.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
They went and beat Ohio State, who everybody's got as
the best team in football, you know, or one of
the top three that will win it, right, all of
that stuff, so you know, it's fuzzy math is really
all I'm trying to get out of here.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
And you're always gonna be able to make the argument
for the other guy. And if you really want to
do it, and I referenced it before Danny White and Tennessee,
he goes.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
You know what, we should just put it all the computers.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Fine, go let the supercomputers spit it out, and then
tell me you're happy with it, because then you have
nobody to blame.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
I don't know. It's the formula. Who was the guy
that had the great formula?

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Nobody's ever gonna be happy college football until you get
to it. You know what's gonna be. It's gonna be
a one game season for everybody. We're gonna preseason ranked
teams one through one twenty eight, and week one team
one plays one twenty eight, Team two plays one twenty seven,
and then that's a Eventually every wee we get all
the way down to a one versus two to the
two Jason Championship.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
But the point I us on the larger scale when
we talk about the schedule, right, A lot of it
does matter when you play a team. And I don't
mean that just hey, you lose in September versus November.
I mean when you play a team in September, that
then five guys get hurt.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
So the teams you're being compared to, oh wait, they
were down to their second quarterback, their fifth quarterback. Joe
Flacco situation that you had with the Cleveland Browns a
year ago.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
That usually doesn't work at the collegiate realm unless you
can have an in season transfer.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
Now we have the portal in all.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
We're talking. That's called a trade. They would have to
be a trade. Will trade. We need it, so we'll
trade you this guy. You trade us this guy.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
Future rights to an unnamed five star from the state
of Florida for your backup quarterback.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Right now, let's go.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
But now, look, you want to get your look because
here's a deal about Alabama. You talked about, you know,
playing Mercon losing Oklahoma their last five games, right, Missouri
was a top twenty five team. They shut them out, right,
LSU was a top fifteen team. They won forty two
thirteen and you know they beat Auburn and the Iron
Bowl as well. Auburn kind of a down year for them,
but they won that by two touchdowns. So, yeah, the

(11:13):
Oklahoma loss is bad. I'm not saying it's not. But
if you're saying, hey resumes in the last five weeks,
that's a pretty strong finish. I mean, yes, again, the
Oklahoma loss is terrible, but Missouri's win was dominant. LSU
was dominant.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
But now I'm gonna go to this signetti, uh, you know,
kind of logic when he was kind of citing top
twenty five wins. LSU's not a top twenty five team anymore,
but that but it it's where you would look.

Speaker 6 (11:40):
I know.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
I'm just trying to muddy the waters to show you
how murky this really is. Trying to parson out. There's
no easy fix, and it's.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Always were good here, they were bad. Here, they were good, right,
they were bad.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Brian Kelly was a genius.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
The next next week they wanted him run out of
town and that was the story of his season. But
that's all I'm trying to say is like it's a
snapshot right in the moment where are we right now?
And it's it's going to be an imperfect process no
matter what unless you're saying, all right, what what do
you expected to do? And you got It's like reporting earnings.

(12:16):
If you're a company, right, you're always gonna sand bag
it a little bit. Now if you do it too much,
nobody's gonna belie your forward thing.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
I don't know, dude, I think you just talked about
committing a felony. I think after reporting no.

Speaker 6 (12:28):
No, says the guy who's one of the FBI's most
wanted wanted.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
You might be down in the hundreds, but you're still there.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Yeah. We've been talking about that for so long. I
used to say that jump.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
So orange and says on it.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
That was twenty oh yeah, Like I like that.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Get the first guy with a designer jump suit in prison.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
You've been running this thing so long. When I go
it was almost twenty five.

Speaker 6 (12:55):
Years no statued crime, Jason Smith.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Now, I'm like, dude, it's over thirty years old. That matter.
I don't think the YAFT checks even still live at
that addresses. You probably killed off.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
The at this point.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
I probably went another refriginate.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
All their food.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
Come on, No, I did that to my dad, took
his mail and no, no, no, no, my daddy's doing
it to all the time. Hey, did you come over tonight? Yeah?
I was there. Oh, because there's there's no sandwich meat,
there's no cheese, there's no oh. Yeah, yeah, I had
a sandwich. What'd you do? I have a sandwich and leave. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (13:29):
Speaking of your dad real quick, did you get him
that hat I sent you earlier for Christmas?

Speaker 3 (13:34):
That it was a good looking hat?

Speaker 1 (13:35):
All right? So Frostburg sends me the picture of a
hat today That is the line score of or sorry,
the the scoreboard bug, the Fox, the Fox scoreboard bug
of the fifth inning of Game five of the World Series,
where it's you know, fifth inning, Yankee Yankees, five Dodgers,
loaded faces, loaded, two outs. And I thought, the greatest ever.

(13:57):
That hat is the best. So I sent that text
to my dad and I said, hey, you have an
early Christmas present coming tomorrow. And he goes, oh, what
is it? And I said and I said it to me,
I said here it is, and he just wrote back,
Felix Hunger.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
There you go, the classic response from all dude, if
you don't get that for your dad, you don't. You
don't truly love them. Oh that's yeah, you don't truly
love us.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
That is the business show world. I would get that
just so I could wear it. I'd wear it around
when he comes over. Yeah, why are you wearing a
hat indoors with your robot? I always wear my hat,
and I would wear those hat indoors. It's my indoor robat.
That's what I got Dad.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
Now we're talking about awesome.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen down the Jason
Smith Scher with Mike Garbin Lot in the Tirec Dot
Cup Studios. I wanted to get into that big debate
everything going on on social media with the whole thing
is Look, that's gonna be the big conversation over the
next twenty four hours. But straight ahead, Mike and I
will give you our picture tomorrow and the college football
playoff and we each have an upset we believe is

(14:58):
coming your way. What is it that's next? Jason.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
And there it is Chewy the musical styles of Chewbacca.
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon
live from the tyrac dot Com studios. So with the
Notre Dame win over Indiana in the rear view mirror,
we look ahead to tomorrow and the three college football

(15:35):
playoff games. Got SMU and Penn State clems in Texas,
Tennessee and Ohio State. Let's start with SMU and Penn States.
We talk about give you our picks for these games.
SMU does get dismissed little too easily, but again, just
like with Indiana, I can't tell you if they're great
because the ACC is really the third tier of all

(15:58):
the conferences. But you know that being said, Penn State
has been waiting for a game like this. They have
the horses to do it. I think it's going to
be a game very similar to what we saw tonight
with Notre Dame and Indiana, where Penn State just runs
over SMU. Tyler Warren will have a big game catching
the football. They have an advantage matchup just about everywhere.

(16:21):
I know that James Franklin doesn't win a lot of
big games, but he'll win this one and move on.
Penn State needs this game. And again SMU is, yeah,
I think they might be good, but I know Penn
State's played big games. I've seen them play really well.
This is a game that Penn State wins well.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
And that's the thing with Penn State.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
We've run all the metrics, and the counter is always
most people don't have great records. Go through all the
great quarterbacks, to take it to the NFL for a minute,
how few of them are much better than three or
four games above five hundred playoff wise, right, it's a
very elite class when you have dominance at that level

(17:00):
against top opponents. So for James Franklin certainly feeling the heat.
But for this moment, you know, SMU, wonder how much
is the we're happy to be included comes into play.
But for Penn State, it's a business trip, right, It's
it's time to take care of business, grind things out,
let's let your guys make plays and keep it simple.

(17:22):
And you already have drew allar. What is interesting though,
is it won't show up in this game, but losing
that backup quarterback that you used in some running gadget
tree and everything else where, does.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
That rear its head? You know when everybody got all
mad about that.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Yeah, I mean, look, it's it's look with college football,
people are gonna get mad about stuff.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
Oh about everything, like that's what we're just talking about it.
That's gonna get everything every new wrinkle. I like it
the way it was, and then two years later, Hey,
remember what it used to be? No, remind me, remind me.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
I got something else on it.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Yeah, Penn State eight point favorites in this one. Fifty
three is your total.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Now you and I are on opposite sides of Tennessee
and Ohio Yeah, I know you like Tennessee for the upset,
And I've talked about this a lot that Ohio State
needs to play a game, right. They got to be
able to put all of this ridiculousness from the last
three weeks losing to Michigan and the fans not liking it,
and basically, Ohio State can win the national title in

(18:21):
fans and say great, I can't really celebrate it carries.
It doesn't matter we lost the Michigan anything else that happens,
I don't care about. Ohio State is still Ohio State
one of the top two most talented teams in all
of college football. In fact, they still might be the
most talented team in college football. They lost to Michigan,
I know, well they did, they did, they did. I
can't say that not but talent can undo it. Talent

(18:43):
doesn't mean the best team that, but most talented team.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
Any given Sunday, Saturday or alternating Thursday.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Yeah, unless it's the Jets, they will find a way
to lose. But this is a game where I'm not
even that concerned about Ohio State's offense. Hey, or what
are they going to do? Is will Howard? Can he
win this game? This should be a game where Ohio
States defense carries the day and Tennessee finds it difficult
to even put points on the board. Like like I
see this being like a twenty four to six kind

(19:10):
of game where boy Tennessee has just kind of showing
the heay, this is how we played, This is how
big boys play defense. So if I like Tennessee, Tennessee
is also wanted to say, hey, they're good, but they
have some losses. But Ohio State, I just have to
believe that they're going to be able to turn the
page when they go out and play and understand that Hey,
all right, now we get ourselves back in a positive

(19:32):
frame of mind. It's been three long weeks. We are
chomping at the bit to play a football game at home,
and they beat Tennessee.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
It's just the question of you know, how much of
the outside noise, as we talked about, you know a
little earlier, you and I with the Nick Saban comments,
you know in the in pregame before Indiana and Notre Dame.
How much do you let in the outside noise? How
much are you able to shield your players and get
them to just focus on, you know what, doing you job.

(20:01):
And that's the big test for Ohio State because the
last three weeks have not been comfortable in the coaches offices,
and I'm sure on those practice field every little detail
being micromanaged to a whole other level. And so yeah,
I would expect them to come out swinging.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
You know what. Tennessee's no slouch.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
Don't sell them, don't sell them short. They're a tremendous slots.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Yeah, but I mean they can get after the quarterback.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
So they're going to make life difficult for Will Howard
and try to disrupt things that Chip Kelly's gonna put together.
And I think that's the biggest thing for the offensive
line have only allowed thirteen sacks on the year, But
this is a Tennessee squad that can get after it.
And I think that's where the potential is there that
one or two possessions become short field opportunities for Tennessee

(20:47):
and they're able to make the upset happen. Plus seven.
That's the current rate if you're going into the marketplace
on this one, as well as over under a forty six. Now,
we talked about weather a little bit yesterday, Jason, when
we had Dodd Furman on because he's gonna be at
the game. Our guy from Vegas, the Bet the Board podcast,

(21:09):
joins us each week talking about how cold it'll be
and really the curiosity, you know, what the wind is
and how much that changes, you know, the downfield passing
games for these squads. But all that to say, as
much as I'm usually a big ten apologist, uh this one,
I go the other way and chaos ensues.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
Release the hounds.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Wow, look at you going against the big ten. My goodness,
trainer Mike usually only do that with Illinois. Yeah no, no, no,
right and Blaine Lovey it's still love you really, Yeah,
it's love you for all these years later.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
Well, because look, even though Lovey as a coach for
the Houston Texans, was able to help guide the fickle
hands of the football gods tour of giving you know,
the the number one pick and all that fun stuff,
you know, our way. Uh uh, he couldn't take out Eber.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
Loose with it in the moment.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
So that's that's Hey, listen, I know, I know you
want to. Hey, can anyway this cloud can grab eber
flues on the way. Can you just he's gonna get
kind of like a drive by. Can you kind of
just grab him and grab them up and bring him
and take him somewhere.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
Wow, now you got the van from old school coming
after him. Goodness, Hey, you.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Like playing Master of Puppets really loud in that van.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
I wonder what's happening.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
No, don't worry, we'll have him back by eight. Uh.
Now the upset I like, And it's it's again. I
look at teams that are running out of gas. I
know that Clemson's a big underdog. I know they're getting thirteen.
I will take the thirteen. You get thirteen, AOK, crazy,
Well I'll take thirteen and a half. I'm not gonna
need it because Clemson's gonna win on the field. Texas.

(22:48):
The last few weeks, Texas kind of been just sort
of getting by, Like I I wonder if they're hitting
the wall and they're running out of gas too, because Texas,
you look at their last four games and it's been okay, well, yeah,
they they had a big season. Yeah, you know the
loss against Georgia. I get at thirty to fifteen. Georgia
got out to them early and they and they never

(23:09):
look back. All right, you know, yeah, you beat Vanderbilt
by a field goal, right, you blew out Florida. Okay,
maybe you got your mojo back, but you barely beat Arkansas,
who is not very good. You beat Kentucky by a
couple of touchdowns, who's less than very good. You beat
Texas A and M, but you know, you scored seventeen points,
and then you lost again to Georgia. You know, like,

(23:31):
I don't see this offense suddenly saying hey, we're getting
better anytime soon. They're just not the same machine they
were earlier in the season. And I don't know if
it's a combination of hey, you know, maybe quinn Ewers
isn't playing the same and the whole you know, getting
arch Manning on the field has been some sort of

(23:51):
I don't want to say division and locker room, but
it's been sort of a division of a do we
get the kid more reps? What is it is? Quinn?
You were still as confident as he was. But no
matter what, no matter how you look at it, the
offense hasn't been playing well. And when you combine that
with a Clemson team that is really peaking offensively, with
a really underrated quarterback in Kad Klubnick who finally has

(24:12):
come through as the much BALLI hooled schoolboy quarterback they
thought he was coming out of high school. Yeah, I mean,
maybe you saw that feature this week. I think Fox
did it. Maybe ESPN did it about how Clubnick and
Ewers played against each other their senior years in Texas
in a big playoff game. But Clemson's hot and Clubnick
has been really good throwing the football. And the thing
is they're going to have to throw the football because

(24:34):
you're not gonna be able to run on Texas right
their defense is just too good. And I think you're
gonna see Clemson come out aggressive, throw the football all
day and Clubnick's going to have a three hundred yard
three touchdown day. Wers is going to give the ball
up a couple of times. Texas gonna turn it over.
You'll see arch Manning playing meaningful minutes because Texas looking
for a spark at some point early in the second half,

(24:56):
and gimme Clemson with the upset win over Texas again.
I'll take the thirteen and a half points. I'm not
gonna say, oh no, no, I don't need him. I'll
take him, but I really I'm not gonna need him
because I like Clemson on the field.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Club Nick thirty three touchdowns, five interceptions, completing about sixty
three sixty four percent of his passes on the year,
And for Clemson they got to fly under the radar
for a good chunk of the year.

Speaker 7 (25:18):
Right.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
We made fun of Davos Swiney and his thoughts on
NIL and the transfer portal and everything else, and now
looking like he's at least opening that door a little
bit to get that part of the process going there
at Clemson. But after a rough start, it started to
roll and coming up with big wins down the stretch.

(25:41):
And look, they're also a team that kind of creates
some chaos to the earlier conversation that we had in
terms of rankings and deciding what's a good win, when's
a good loss, all that kind of stuff that the
committee has to parse out going forward and try to
sort out what this is once it's all said and
done in your crown a champion for Texas, you've got

(26:04):
shades of the Apple White Sims conundrum of all those
years ago, which the fan base, you know, they hated
what Mac Brown was doing there. I remember being being there.
They came up to Stanford and watching just how there
was just a weirdness around that squad after that game
because of the way, you know, they pulled the strings

(26:25):
as to who was playing series and going in and out.
And for Texas it's a bit of the same, especially
with yours struggling. Everybody wants to see Arch fearful that
Bill Belichick is gonna come swooping in, you know, beyond
the hey, let's win this whole damn thing, it's the
what else is behind door number two for the program,

(26:47):
And so you know, you've got everybody kind of paying
attention in that part of the process as well. Right,
USC took more losses this week and then they have
to play a game with the transfer portal. So all
of that to say, I do like the Clemson potential here,
but I do think it's arch Manning to the rescue
to hold off you with your plus thirteen and a half.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
I do think they keep it close, but that Texas
rolls on.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
Do you see that arch Manning is already the odds
on favorite for the Heisman Trophy next year? There you go,
number one of he has the hights that the lowest
odds on the Heisman Trophy is already arch Mane.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
You got that and Glenn Powell and McConaughey. Power cannot
be cannot be understated.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen Dome. The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live from the tyrack dot
Com Studios. Now, let's find out what's trending in the

twenty seven seventeen. It was twenty seven to three with

Bowl quarterfinal. SMU tomorrow will open its postseason in the
cold at Penn State. The Texas opener tomorrow is at

(28:32):

(28:53):

The Chiefs activated wide receiver Hollywood Brown. He was on
IR with a shoulder injury. He's back now and Saturday,
Kansas City hosts the Texans.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Dolphins.

Speaker 7 (29:04):
Wide receiver Jalen Waddle, with a knee injury, is doubtful
for Sunday against the forty nine Ers. San Francisco running
back Isaac Wrendo out with foot and hamstring injuries. Colts
wide receiver Alec Pierce out this weekend with a concussion.
Arizona kicker Matt Prater out with a left knee injury.
Saints running back Alvin Kamara misspractice groin injury. Monday is
the New Orleans game at Green Bay. By the way,

(29:26):
Carolina says quarterback Bryce Young will remain the starter there
first base when Christian Walker from the Diamondbacks is reportedly
going to Houston on a three year deal. In the
NBA three games tonight, Cleveland now twenty four and four
beat up Milwaukee won twenty four to one oh one
despite thirty three points from Janisan Tenecumpo. Oklahoma City won
at seventh straight one o four to ninety seven at

(29:47):
Miami for the heat. Jimmy Butler left early due to illness,
and Philadelphia had Joel Embiid on the court tonight and
beat Charlotte won eight ninety eight. Embiid returned wearing a
mask after a sinus fracture. N Embid had thirty four
points and nine assists. Luka Doncicch and the Mavericks will
be out again Saturday with a bruised heal and John
Moranda the Grizzlies is doubtful for tomorrow with a bad back.

(30:09):
College basketball wins in the top twenty for Texas, A
and m and Cincinnati dominant wins and women's hoops in
the Bay Area tonight so on halfs one for number
one UCLA over Creighton and number eleven Ohio State which
whips Stanford in the NHL, and overtime win at.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
Florida for the home team to one over Saint Louis.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve. Though UCLA has been
number one in college basketball for like a month now,
I think.

Speaker 7 (30:31):
Yes, it has been a little while and they keep dominating.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (30:34):
By the way, while we're talking hoops, what's the big
lead in here? Fox is I mentioned gonna have football tomorrow.
USC and Yukon matchup is coming up on Fox this week.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Oh lucky for USC, it's not football. Oh boy, okay,
thanks a much, Steve, do this Juju play football.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
Not Smith Schuster. No, yeah, no, thank you.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
Oh there you go to drop the Mike Steve Outstanding.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
I tell you, Alex ty Shirt, half half of the
people listening are upset, because half the people listening Captain
Kirk is the only captain of the Star Trek Enterprise. Yes,
and there's no such person as Captain Picard. What all
the all the all the Kirk. They hate you right.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Now you know thirty eight years ago.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
Today is the anniversary of people get out of your basements,
get a life.

Speaker 8 (32:13):
Say this, Jason. If they have a problem with this,
they should look in the mirror.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Kirk Picard, Kirk Pricard, shut up, make it so and prosperous.
Uh that that's that's okay, that's the same. No, that's
no not no, no, no, that's Olive Guardian leviosa breadsticks. No, no,
that's a. That's Leonard Nimoy. That's Spock. Who is who

(32:38):
is with?

Speaker 8 (32:39):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (32:40):
Leonard Skinnard?

Speaker 1 (32:41):
Yeah, that's Leonard. You what's this enterprise du where the
stars are so right? You?

Speaker 6 (32:51):
No?

Speaker 7 (32:51):
Uh? I?

Speaker 1 (32:52):
I dig that mashup T shirt. I dig that I
didn't captain Picard mash up all I.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
Want from you never know what's around the corner.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
No, you never do.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
I it's a good thing that every day can be
like Christmas. What did you say I shirt on?

Speaker 1 (33:07):
Mike?

Speaker 8 (33:07):
I was just saying I found another good one. But
I'm saving it for you, Mike. When Jason's gone, oh
there you go for Winter's Jason. Because we care about
the fans.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
Okay, yeah, sure, okay, the only fans. You didn't yeah, well, hey, look,
Harmon's only fans. What time you start only fans normally
like right after the show?

Speaker 4 (33:24):
Right, it's gonna be about eleven forty five tonight. It's
gonna take a little longer to get back home. I
got an errand or two to run before I go home.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
So what errand do you have to run at eleven
o'clock at night?

Speaker 3 (33:36):
Grocery stores open the midnight?

Speaker 1 (33:37):
Okay, all right?

Speaker 3 (33:38):
Very good grocery store. Uh huh sure.

Speaker 1 (33:42):
And when you say grocery store.

Speaker 6 (33:44):
That groceries at the Spearmen Rhinow, my Grocery America globally
at Swollen Dome.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
Let me know what you think. What should I do
with my Friday night?

Speaker 4 (33:53):
Hey?

Speaker 1 (33:54):
I mean why do I hear Cherry Pie being played
behind you? No? No, no, I mean about it?

Speaker 3 (33:58):
I mean an eighties cover band, that's why.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
All right, So look, we have Bernie Fratto coming up
in about ten minutes. We got two more NFL games
to look at, obviously two games tomorrow, which again you're like, wow,
there are gonna play two games from arow we know
we got the College Football Playoff. We gave you our
thoughts on the Ravens and the Steelers. I love the Ravens.
I'm just not gonna believe in the Steelers. Now the

(34:23):
Texans and the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes is gonna play. That's
enough for me. I mean, I'm sure we're gonna get
some kind of great game, and the Texans are gonna
look fantastic for the first three and a half quarters,
and they'll be up by six with like six minutes
to go in the game, and somehow you're gonna see
a last few minute drive because nobody takes care of

(34:44):
the final few minutes of a game like the Chiefs,
do you know. And the excitement of that, the excitement
of Hollywood Brown on his way back to I'll take
the Chiefs in this one over the Texans. We'll play
again three and a half quarters. Texas will play really well.
Boy CJ. Stroud looks good and maybe the team is
real just peaking later on at the end of this year.
But then the final six minutes, it'll be the Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
Forty two and a half. You're over under.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
It's a little bit of weather expected, Chiefs three and
a half point favorites.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
Taking the point.

Speaker 1 (35:14):
I think the Chiefs are going to be three and
a half point favorites in every game the rest of
the season.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Nice sullid three and a half. They cover.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
They win this game Houston's offensive line, even though the
Chiefs defense a little more back down to Earth of late,
but they do enough to get it done.

Speaker 1 (35:34):
All right now, this week was big biggest story in
the NFL This week has been the benching of Kirk
Cousins and the ascension of Michael Pennix Junior into the
starting quarterback role for the Falcons. There is no more
perfect week to do this, because the Giants have quit
on the season. They're done. They're ready to They're ready
to go home. They know they're gonna have a new coach,

(35:55):
a new GM. They don't have a lot of talent
on the roster. They're done. They're ready for Christmas, They're
ready for New Year's They're finished. Michael Pennix Junior is
gonna have an electric debut. They wouldn't be making this
move if they thought they were just gonna hand the
ball off and just diminish Kirk Cousins role. Because Kirk
Cousins could hand the ball off and not worry about interceptions.

(36:16):
Pennix is gonna get out there. They're gonna show him off.
He's gonna throw the ball early and the receivers are
gonna go, wow, this is what it feels like to
get a really tight spiral. Hummin at you because Cousins
hasn't been the same guy, right, he doesn't move well,
he's not throwing the ball the same and Pennix has
a cannon and he got when you have a lot
of weapons at your disposal, there's no tape, there's no anything.

(36:39):
It's the right team for Penix to make his debut. One.
They're gonna score early and off and against the Giants,
they're gonna win this game like thirty eight to thirteen
or some kind of number like that, and we're all
gonna be saying on Monday, how do the Falcons not
go to Michael Pennix Junior? Soonior? You could have saved
the season, gonna X Y and z A. It's a
combination of being the right guy at the right time,
being someone who can get the football to his playmakers

(37:01):
and in a great spot, and them playing a team
that is basically quit. That's part of the equation for
what went into this week, and it's going to work
out for them in a large way.

Speaker 4 (37:11):
Think think curiosity here because you you've been calling for
some big, big numbers here. You and I have talked
about this a bunch off air uh is over under
for passing yards to twenty seven and.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
A half Fantasy rankings.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
He's as a back end QB two, which I think
is too low. But curious to see what kind of
heart you get out of the Giants team or if
they're like DJ Moore and others talking about potential destinations
for either their vacations or future playing Keenan Allen so
all of this. Sorry, I couldn't let the whole week

(37:47):
go without at least one or two more Scots.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
What he wants to come back to the Chargers He
said it last week, So well, you you.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
Could use other wide receiver though, Frostburg. I'm telling you
you could.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
You want to know a good ride receiver if it
hit you in the face.

Speaker 1 (38:05):
Stop. We have we have been I love Lad McConkie. Dude.
We have DeVante Adams and Garrett Wilson.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
Come on, man, Devant Adams is really good. At the
end of the night, I.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
Know you can default to You wouldn't know because your
team is terrible, but there's time done for you.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
Lately.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
There's times Devant Adams won the game last week.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
How's that working out for your draft pick?

Speaker 1 (38:25):
We were we weren't gonna get her to get cam
Ward anyway, What does it matter?

Speaker 4 (38:29):
You're like the new GM whoever that is told you
this week Aaron Rodgers will be playing starting a quarterback
for the g Yeah we know that, but you still
have to put something in front of him or around him.

Speaker 6 (38:39):
I'm just gonna pretend you said nothing mean to me,
and I'm gonna say happy holidays, said mean to you?

Speaker 1 (38:47):
Getting the guy who had Keenan Allen stats for days
for like five, well.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
They burned him.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
They would have to recreate that file.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
Uh for Mike Jason twitter At, how about a fresco
Mike It swallow and dome. Happy holidays, harmon, enjoy next
week coming up next Bernon Bernie Fratto. This is fo
