we watch the game on Netflix, I'm just kind of curious.
Are you a squid game guy or no?
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Yes, I will be watching the new season. I did.
It's it's pretty wild.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
I don't know if I'm gonna like the new season.
I saw the trailer, and did you see.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
The trailer yet?
Speaker 3 (01:24):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Tell me what, let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
The only thing is, it's like there are a couple
of the people are back in the game, so you
could have a few repeat people. But they're also going
to try to like bring down the establishment, I guess
is what it's about.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
So I enjoyed the whole competition the first time. No,
I thought the games got worse as they went along.
I want to see, you know, better type games is
what I wanted to see.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
You know, you want to see a little more competition.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yes, exactly. I thought it was great though. I thought
it was an unbelievable series. I had a it was
just a lot of on the watch.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
Yeah, well, I finally get a second to sit down.
I'm gonna lock in and catch up.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
It just started though, it just started today.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
I think, all right, cool, I'm gonna lock it.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
I don't know if they released one at a time
or they release all of them and you just watch
it at your convenience. I don't know if it's like
one a week or until they get all the episodes released,
or if they're all released right now. So if you know,
by the way, let us know, ad Martin Weiss, I'm
mistinking genius one, And congratulations to Martin. You got engaged.
(02:30):
By the way, where did you? Where did you get engaged?
Speaker 4 (02:33):
Where?
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Exactly?
Speaker 4 (02:35):
I got an airbnb?
Speaker 5 (02:36):
So I rented an airbnb and I set up the
uh you know, and I decorated the house so it
was nice.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Yeah, I got an Airbnb and I second, I decorated it.
Wait a minute, Wait a minute, Wait a minute.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
I really wish you'd have asked me about this before
you did that. I mean, you go to the games.
There was no like going to a crypto arena or
whatever and putting up on the on the jumbo tron. Honey,
where you marry me? Nothhing like that. I don't know
that you're a sports guy. What's wrong with you?
Speaker 5 (03:09):
Yeah? I didn't really want to do that, in part
because what if I can't get there to look at
the screen in time, then I just missed the window. Now,
everybody plus two, what if it's a what if the
game stinks?
Speaker 6 (03:23):
Right?
Speaker 5 (03:23):
They let's think about this, right. Let's say, for example,
like you said Crypto dot com. All right, they said
the Lakers are down by thirty in the middle of
the third quarter, and JJ calls the time out, and
the fans are booing as they start to play the
you know, the music and all this, and now I'm
on the I'm on the jumbo tron, me and my
(03:46):
future wife on the jumbo tron. Meanwhile, Lakers fans are
pissed off because Lebron's sitting again for the third game
in a row, and Anthony Davis just got hurt again.
He's limping off the court, and JJ's calling time out
getting a technical found there boo as I go to
propose to get down on one knee, and now all
the internet sees is everybody bulling me.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Can't do it.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
I didn't think about that. I didn't that that could
have possibly happened. That's that's not beyond the rubble possibility.
That's good thinking. There ahead no none of the sports things,
none of the let me hide the ring or anything
like that. Just let me get down on one knee
and propose pretty simple stuff.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Uh yeah, man, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
Look, I'm a straightforward execution type of guy before running
the ball. You know what I'm saying. I think dunks
are better than three porters more often than not. And
you know what, when.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
It's just easy, just just just do it, do it.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Was there a chance that she was gonna say no, no,
Never a doubt, never a doubt. I do feel bad
for the for the ones that say no, get out,
And some of them are true. I know a lot
of them are rigged and stuff. But there's women that
say no, no, thank you, I don't want to get
married to you.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
I have a few. Look if you get now.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
This was my personal opinion one for one so far
proposals in life. You know, yeah, undefeated, probably gonna stop
after this when I imagine yes, but if you get
rejected on your proposal, is probably something that you did wrong,
Like you had you were the one that misread the scenario.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
I think really so that you just you didn't read
how good you're, how good or how bad the relationship was,
then is.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
What it really was? Right exactly? You should have had
a better idea.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
All right, Well, if you want to give Martin any
advice where you should go to honeymoon? I already told
them don't go to the Canadian Rockies because you can
only look at water and drink clear water for so long,
and then what do you do for the other nine
days in twenty three hours? Are you thinking of any
place like Hawaii or something, or you're open to just
about anything.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
I'd say she probably wants to go to Europe. She's
been trying to get me to go to Europe for
over like six or seven.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
Months, and I'll be good, that'd be good. I don't mind.
Speaker 5 (06:04):
I'm not going during football season, so it's like, but
November is the best time to go.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
It's like, oh, no, am I supposed.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
To afford to go to Europe if I'm not working
during football season?
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Exactly?
Speaker 4 (06:14):
This is the busy season. This is a tax season.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
You'll have to go in like what June or July
or August.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
Something like that.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
So I think that'll probably be excuse me, where we
end up with that.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
How long is the engagement going to be? When do
you when do you want to go ahead and do it?
Do you want to buy next by this summer coming up?
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Or what I mean?
Speaker 5 (06:36):
It'd be cool, but I don't think we'll be able
to plan and save and all of that.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
By this is what I told her. I guess she
has a window.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
She go down the city hall. Just do it real
quick and save the money. But you're not You're not
listening to me. Now.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
I did propose that, Oh, I did propose that.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
But ultimately still I do want to have at least
a wedding party.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
You know, I want to. I want to. I want
to be a would you know, have fun after.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Didn't tell you this? What Look, I love my wife,
but to this day when I saw what my mother
in law spent on a wedding but she's super rich,
I get sick to my stomach saying, why did you
just give us the money?
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Why don't just whyn.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Just give us the money and we could have done
something with that. That's what a waste of money. What
a waste of money that was? So Yeah, I would
save as much as you can so you can afford
your first house, Martin. That's that's my advice to you.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
That is the plan we're trying to do. We're not
gonna go we're not gonna go super crazy on it,
but we I think we are going to have one.
I don't know if the Courthouse is going to get
it done.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
All right. Any advice for Martin please add Martin Weiss,
I'm a stinking genius one. Uh we mister Barton Burner
there while we hopped on the air. Six to three,
Seattle wins it. It doesn't really make a difference because
these games are going to be here to stay. But
what a what a stinker that one was. That was
an absolutely horrible game, Martin.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
Yeah, you had a little bit of weather that was
impacting it, but also too, I just think what we
might have seen is think Geno Smith's best days are
going to be behind him in this league at this point.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
And the Bears, I think the Bears.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
Honestly, they just have a lack of institutional like ability
for success right now. They think about they fired the
offensive coordinator, then they fired the offensive I mean the
head coach. Now the head coach. It was the passing
game coordinator to start the year. They just don't have
enough bodies making decisions in the locker room in Hollas
(08:34):
Hall right now, in my opinion, to put out a
winning organization to be a winning team.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Right speaking about Howas Hall them, you saw the rumors
even though there's insiders fighting among each other to what's
true and what's not true. Pete Carroll's name is coming out.
And now you see Pete Carroll's name tied into the Jets,
tied into the Bears. The Bears were the first team
that came out. Is it Pete Carroll too old.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
To be ahead?
Speaker 3 (09:03):
What is he seventy two? I think he is seventy two,
seventy three?
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Yeah, he's seventy three years old.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Okay, why would you want to come back? Why would
you want him? If you're the Bears? Why would you
want him? If you're the Jets, why would you want him?
If you're anybody? Not that Bill's not had a great career.
But again, if you're not going to take Belichick for
whatever reason, if it's his age, or his time has
passed them by or whatever, or he's just too snarky,
(09:35):
you know, then the same thing applies for Pete Carroll.
But are you surprised? Do you? Do you believe these
stories that all these teams are coming after Pete Carroll?
Speaker 5 (09:43):
I believe that Pete Carroll is interested in coaching for
these teams. I don't know how many teams are interested
in Pete Carroll coaching them, right, I think.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
That, and that's a big difference. But hell yeah, if
I was Pete Carroll, one of the coaching job, because.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
Here's the deal, all right, seventy three I coached two
more years, another cool fifteen to twenty million dollars I
can put into the bank of all my guaranteed coaching.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
I can't argue with money. But that's beside the point.
If he hasn't made enough money up till now with
all those years in Seattle, then he's got a bad
financial advisor.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Then, Martin, I don't.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Know what to tell you about that. Sure, putting another
ten or twenty million dollars, then you might as well
coach until your one hundred and fifty, then I guess.
Speaker 7 (10:24):
I mean, I think some of these guys would if
they had the opportunity to end the health to you know,
and and the health to But you know the thing
about Pete's like, I think that.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
I mean, you saw how much energy he had on
a day to day basis. But I'm just like they
went to the fourth Okay, fourteen seasons in Seattle, ten
playoffl appearances, five Division wins, two Super Bowl appearances, one
Super Bowl win. When I look at that resume, it's very,
very impressive. Then I look at Tom Bill Belichick's resume,
(10:56):
and I'm like, well, if he didn't get a job,
why would any of us these old people get job.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Exactly. And that's which is a great point, because if
you're not going to take everything that comes with Bill
Belichick and there's not as much baggage though with Pete Carroll,
we have to go ahead and admit that though.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
There's also not nearly the level of success.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
No, not nearly. But I saw a story it was
it was it Phil Simms or was it Chris Simms?
Excuse me? I think it was Chris Simms talking about
how people are people in the NFL. We're just tired
of Belichick being all snarky and just you know, I'm paraphrasing,
(11:36):
you know, just being a horse's ass for twenty years,
and this is their way of getting him back. That's
why he doesn't have a job.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Do you believe that?
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Or what.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
A little bit a little bit matter of fact.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Here's what it says, an awful announcing. It says Chris
Sims not shocked that the NFL rejected Bill Belichick. He
treated most of them like s for twenty years, is
what he said.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
I think that the okay, so that's a little bit
of a misnomer. Did the NFL say Bill Belichick, you're
not gonna get this job, or did he interview He
interviewed twice in Atlanta, and then Robert kraftepped in and
told Arthur Blank not to hire him.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
Right.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
I think what the NFL ended up doing is making
a do I want Robert Craft? And by the way,
Robert Craft and Arthur Blake very good friends, very good friends.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
And Robert Craft is one of the few owners in
the NFL who has he has influence, like he when
he says something influence.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
But you notice how he still didn't get voted into
the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
I see, yeah, I mean, but it's different people voting
for the Hall of Fame. You know.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Yeah, but there's politics going on there too. But I'm
sorry to get you sidetracked.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
But I think that when you're looking and when these
owners are these owner meetings, I think some of these
guys are looking at Robert Kraft, looking at Jerry Jones,
looking at some of the like some of those guys,
they're looking at them they're kind of looking up to them,
like there has to be an inner circle of Like
like in high school, you had the cool kids table.
Everybody ate much at the same time, but one you
knew who was popular and you knew who wasn't.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Right.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
I think it's the same thing in NFL ownership, especially
when you consider that all these guys have some level
of wealth. So then it becomes how much richer are
you than me? And then it becomes how much better
is your football team than me? Because we all have
the same parameters to work with. So I think that
Robert Kraft's voice saying listen, Atlanta, don't you hire Bill
Belichick sent a message out to the rest of the NFL,
(13:33):
and it says, and the under the you know, the
part in parentheses was and that goes for you too.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Yeah, but you know, and I actually agree with you
on that. But doesn't another owner stand up and say,
you know what, I don't give a damn I want
a Super Bowl. This guy wins Super bowls. If he
doesn't pull it off, I'll get rid of him in
two to three years. Nobody stands up and hires this guy,
even if you're a low tier type team.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Nobody, So I.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
Think what also too, there's a level of like Dan
Snyder was a scumbag by all reports, but he was
the NFL scumbag, you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
It's like they like people wouldn't speak out against him
until it was too late. Right, I don't.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
We don't know what level of I don't wanna says
and what.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
I was gonna say?
Speaker 4 (14:16):
What did he do?
Speaker 3 (14:17):
What did Bill Belichick exactly do that he treated everybody
like as well? What was he just mean?
Speaker 4 (14:23):
Was he snarky?
Speaker 3 (14:25):
I was it? The way he treated players, owners, other coaches.
I find it hard to believe that he would be
mistreating other owners out there. That's my thoughts.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
I mean, what is he Could he have been more
gracious in some postgame press conferences, sure, like, but ultimately
I think that's just gonna be the competition level. And
I say it like this, I think that if Mike
Tomlin got fired tomorrow, I don't think that it would
be because the new team that hired him would be Oh,
he's always so complimentary of his opponents in the postgame
press conferences, right right, there's one of the things he
(15:02):
always goes above and beyond talking about how good the
other team is, even when you know that's not necessarily true.
But I just think I think it boils down to
NFL owners being afraid to step across the line set
by some of the other NFL owners. And I think
the NFL shows you and you have several different instances
(15:23):
bro whether it be Colin Kaepernick, whether it be John Cruden,
whether it be Bill Belichick, When the NFL is done
with you for whatever.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Reason, it is done with you and there.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
Is due, you are not walking back through that door,
no matter who you sue, no matter who you talk to,
no matter So I think altimately what ends up happening.
Belichick didn't get that job in Atlanta, Robert Kraft said,
don't hire him.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
He reached out to the Jets, but he's.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Going to get a job. That's why he only did
the North Carolina buy me out in a year for
a very small amount of money. He probably thinks he's
going to go back to the NFL.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
I don't think. I don't think he's going.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
I don't, and I think that people have the wrong
read on that buyout. That buyout is also like Lincoln
Riley would have been bought out of my three five
five games ago.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
But because it's ninety million dollars, they can't do it.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
And across college sports we see these prohibitive buyouts, and
that's the reason why a lot of you guys still
have jobs. I think Belichick said, look like, if this
doesn't work out for the both of us.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Like we can get out of this in an easy way.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
I don't think that. But he's leaving it open. But
that's fine, leave it open. I'm also leaving open the
door to my NBA career just in case I get drafted.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Right, it's not happening.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
So do you buy that his son's the coaching waiting
and he's gonna take over after a year or no?
Speaker 5 (16:41):
I mean I think it sounds nice now, right, but
like that's all gonna be depending on results, right right,
Like that all depends like so.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
Things like that, and I just don't to me, Aren'tie.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
It's just a lot of egg on face if you
go and take this job and pull out and leave
and write it right after you got there, especially in
a world where we just saw Kurt Signetti and I
know it was Daydad had a feeble attempt, but we
just saw kurtz Signetti trying to win a championship right
because because he went to Indiana and qualify for the playoffs,
(17:15):
the ACC got two teams in. You tell me you
can't win the ICC or be one of those better
teams and really compete. I think so that's gotta be
what to me. I don't think he's just doing this
for the fun. I think that's why he's Martin White.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
Some already span your in for the guys tonight, Jason
Smith and of course his best friend Mike Harmon. Remember
now we'll have Bill Krackenberger joining us in the bonus
hour of the show, so we'll get to some gambling.
We'll start looking at the week seventeen of the games.
And we never got the chance to pay off that
tease about looking at some of the next round into
college football matchup. So all that's coming up next. But

Speaker 3 (19:24):
HI. Welcome back to tyreck dot Com Studios. Martin Wiss
Arnie Span. You're in for Jason Smith and his best
friend Mike Harmon on this Thursday, twenty sixth day of December,
day after Christmas. Hope everybody had a great holiday out there, Martin.
Are you a New Year's guy, New Year's Eve, New
Year's guy? Or no?
Speaker 4 (19:43):
Nah, not really.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
I'd rather be at a I mean, if I am,
I'm gonna do something. I'd rather be like, you know,
close to close to the vest. Few friends, you know,
maybe some family around.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Are you watching the ball drop and all that?
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Or you don't get into that anymore? Watch football.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
The ball dropping might be somewhere else is going on,
but I'll be watching football. I will say I knew
the year was when Ohio State missed that kick as
the clock struck midnight.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
I was like, you know what, it's goud be a
good year.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
Yeah. Well, matter of fact, let's talk about the games.
Let me start with Texas Arizona State. Texas looked real
good against clubs, and though they did give up twenty
four points, a lot of that kind of came late
though it was within one score Clubs within one score.
Texas pulled the way late. Their offensive game will great.
They ran the ball like crazy. They're a thirteen and
a half point favorite. Could be closer than the thirteen
(20:35):
and a half, But the way Texas runs the ball,
I don't think Arizona State can stop them.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
No, I don't think so either.
Speaker 5 (20:41):
I think the Arizona State's best chance is if Camp's
catiball as a game of his life, and I just
don't think they have enough firepower. Unfortunately. I would love
to see an upset though, in one of these games,
just one.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
Right, right?
Speaker 3 (20:54):
What do you think about now that we're going from
home field to now neutral site games, using the ball
games out there.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
I wish it was opposite. I know they don't want to.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
No, I don't want. I don't want any neutral site games.
I want all home field advantage.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
If you're going to have neutral site games, it should
be the ones that were just played, like the ones
between the five and the.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
Twelve seed and so on.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
I love the atmosphere in South Bend. I love the
atmosphere down in Austin, in Columbus, I mean, in Penn State,
they were all just fantastic. You know.
Speaker 5 (21:29):
No, I'm not saying, but you should be rewarded for
getting a like you should be rewarded for that that
top seed. I imagine that should be a home game.
That's what I would think. But I mean, ultimately, I
don't say, I don't really care too much, but I
did think it was pretty awesome to watch those environments,
see teams like and we finally get moments that like
all the arguments that we had in college football for
(21:51):
so long of well can see to come up here
to the Big Ten in the winter time, you guys
had to play like.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
This, you know.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
You know, it's like so I to be able to
see those matchups in instead of having those arguments all
the time.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
The big game Ohio State in Oregon, that's going to
be on January one, Oregon. Excuse me, Ohio State now
with two and a half point favorite. Even though Oregon
won the first time in Eugene, it was really a
coin flip of the game. Ohio State could have won
that game very easily. I still like Oregon in this one,
but this is the This is the game everybody's gonna
(22:25):
be want to watch there, Martin.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
Yeah, this is this is gonna be the one, especially
the rematch of Early and so I think Oregon got
a tough draw in this situation, but ultimately I do
think they will be successful.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
I think they can. I think they beat Ohio State twice.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Penn State an eleven point favorite over Boise. Boise played
Oregon very tough up in Eugene, lost by a field
goal AGENTI in that game had like one hundred and
eighty yards or something to that effect. Penn State, though,
looked really good against SMU. I think Boise is better
than sim you, but not as good as Penn State.
(23:02):
I see Penn State winning this by two touchdowns and
covering the eleven point spread.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
I do.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
And We're gonna be an interesting spot here because I
know that a lot of people are kind of re
engineering their thoughts about the college football playoff. Right, everybody
liked expanding it to twelve almost I felt like a
universal good thing because you know, you wouldn't have Georgia's
being left out. And then the way that we now
see how people are complaining about the quality of games
(23:29):
right in the first round. What if Penn State wins
the national Championship, Like, it's not so far fetched, Like
you said, dude, they ran through, They'll play a Boise
team and then maybe they could get to Georgia with
a backup quarterback, you know what I'm saying, Like, depending
on how it all breaks out, it's not an insane.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Concept, No, it isn't.
Speaker 5 (23:49):
But I think that the nation as a whole after
seeing like nobody had a problem.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
With Indiana being in on selection day. It wasn't until
after the game.
Speaker 5 (23:59):
If Penn State timeout wins the national Championship, I feel
like people are gonna be like, wait a minute, at
what point in the year did we think Penn State
was the best team in the nation.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Because I think the answer would be.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Never, right, right, But we never thought they were better
than Ohio State, that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Right, you know, Oregon for example.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
And so I think we will have people re engineering
the end of this again and being like, but the
reality is, when you're playing these one game tournaments, exactly
the best teams I always that's the NBA played second.
That's how the best team wins.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Kind of like basketball, you know what I mean? The
same thing, even though they're neutral, A team could win
it that we didn't think we was gonna win it
all year long. They find themselves in the final four,
win a couple of games.
Speaker 5 (24:41):
Right exactly, like and it'll be interesting too, like like
Ohio State people would like like people would be fine
with the house they winning another championship. Oregon the way
they've been dominant last this year, and we're really good
the year prior.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
I see they wouldn't people to have a problem with that.
Speaker 5 (24:56):
But I feel like we see one of these middle
tier teams actually win the first year this thing, everybody's
gonna sit back and.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
Be like, we may have made a grave, grave mistake.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
Notre Dame Georgia, Georgia the two point favorite with a
backup quarterback. Why am I loving Notre dameon this one?
Even though the backup came in and had a good
game against Texas.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
Well, I mean partly Carson Beck has had a poor season.
I'll say it like that, So the backup quarterback I
was actually when he got hurt, we were on the
air of men VJ, and I said, you know what,
this might work out better for Georgia. Let's see what
the kids got because Carson.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
Becky let me throw.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
He was up there in interceptions. I like Notre Dame too, though.
The only problem is I just they can only win
one way.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
So but as long as they're the more physical tun
of Stockton by the way, his.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
Name, Yeah, sure, Gunner Stockton, who took a hell of
a shot in one of those overtime periods in that game,
and he had.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
To go out and they had to bring what Carson
Carson Becken.
Speaker 5 (25:58):
Is that in a noodle alarm only had his arms
the ball right side. But I like Notre Dame in
this spot especially, but they only can win one way.
So if Georgia gets an early lead, I would not
expect Notre Dame to be able to throw the ball
and come back on them.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
What's the best game of the of the four?
Speaker 4 (26:17):
That that one Georgia had.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Notre Dame really over the Ohio State Oregon game. Come on, man,
I love that one. I mean that that's the one.
I think everybody you might have sold me on it. Yeah,
I think that's gonna have the highest ratings. Though the
game on the thirty first Penn State Boise State is
going to be a standalone. The other three are on
(26:39):
the first. We'll see if that makes a difference.
Speaker 7 (26:41):
It's gonna be.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
Interesting to see too, how they go forth scheduling some
of these standalone games going forward. I think that if
Indiana wasn't the first game of the of the of
the Player that standalone Friday night, how the reaction would
have been different they had now none of the games
were closed, but if that game had been close, all right,
or if Tennessee had in the team in there, because
nobody was like Tennessee camp here SEC team so on, right, right,
(27:05):
But they also picked on SMU two, saying the same
thing about SMU as they.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
Did about Indiana right, saying they don't deserve it also,
and they were complaining so much it was ridiculous. And
I'm like, you know, pump the brakes a little bit.
This is the system we have right now. It doesn't
mean that every time the first round is going to
be you know, blowouts. We have championship games that are blowouts,
Super Bowls Martin are blowouts. It just happens that way.
(27:33):
We don't have great games every time.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
I mean, you know, I just remember a real barn
burner last year between the Steelers and the Bills round one, right,
Like you know, there's ass kickings in the first round
of the playoffs by design because the team that is,
the whole team or the higher seed is supposed to
be that much better.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
Right.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
When we get back, I want to talk about some
things as we break out our crystal ball. What's gonna
happen next year for these teams and these players. We'll
discuss that coming up next, but first let's take another
look at what's trending with our buddy Martin wife. What's
happening out there, Martin, Well, I think one late NBA
game is still going on.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
We do. I start with the NBA game that just
wrapped up.
Speaker 5 (28:15):
Though Jaden Ivy hitting a four point play to go
ahead and give the Detroit Pistons a one point lead.
Sacramento was not able to get a scoring bucket out
out of de Andres choose me out of DeAndre Fox.
He wasn't able to hit a game winner, but one
fourteen to one thirteen the final score in Sacramento.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Detroit gets the win.
Speaker 5 (28:37):
They improved the nine to nine on the road thirty
seven to twenty two the fourth quarter scoring the Pistons
really filled it up there thirty three points and tennis
sists for Caid Cunningham. Earlier today in the NBA, we
had the Rockets beat The Rockets beat the Pelicans one
twenty eight to one eleven, The Grizzlies beat the Raptors
one fifty five to one twenty six, Hawks over Bulls
(28:58):
one forty one to one third three. Jordan Poole hit
a game winner to give the Wizards their fifth win
of the year, one thirteen to one ten, and the
Heat outlast the Magic eighty nine to eighty eight. I'myakis
with fifteen points in five steals. College football still got
one bowl game going on right now, the sixty eight
Ventures Bowl. At the two minute time out as they
(29:20):
call it in college football, thirty eight to twenty four
the score, Arkansas State in.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
The lead over Bowling Green.
Speaker 5 (29:26):
Bowling Green does have the ball, but looks like they're
about the punt.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
Earlier, we saw Toledo.
Speaker 5 (29:31):
Beat Pittsburgh forty eight to forty six and six overtimes,
and we saw Kansas State beat Rutgers forty four to
forty one.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
That in the Rate Bowl. That's it just rate Rite rate,
that's it rate.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
What I don't know, but in the NFL, a not
highly rated game right here is six to three the
final score. Seattle Seahawks approved to nine to seven, six
and one on the road, Chicago Bears fall to four
in twel four and five on at home. Caleb Williams
doing an interception today. It's his first interception of three
(30:08):
hundred and ninety four passes ups. That's an NFL rookie record,
So congratulations to him and what has been a tough
rookie year in the win lost calling, but he's been okay.
Caleb Williams was low scoring today all around, obviously no
touchdown scores.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
You know. Smith threw for one hundred and sixty yards.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
Caleb one twenty two, Zach Charbin eight fifty seven yards
on the ground, Deandro Swift fifty three. Cede Lamb's gonna
be shut down for the year, per the Dallas Cowboys.
He's got a shoulder injury. And Eric Dickerson says he
doubts that Sakwon Barkley will break his single season rushing record,
but he's saying, you know, he also doesn't want him
(30:49):
to do it. Says, I pull no punches with that.
I want to keep my record. So Arnie back to us.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Good for him, good time. He wants to keep his record? Ye,
so Arny Spaniel in for the guy inside. Jason Smith
and best tread Mike Harmon on this Thursday night, twenty
sixth day of December, Martin, I want you to break
out your crystal ball. A few names I want to
throw out there, and where you think they're going to
be next year, and of course what other than starting
with Aaron Rodgers, he was asked, is he going to
(31:16):
be back? Does wood he want him back? Talking about
Woody Johnson the owner, and he straight out said, you
have to ask Woody about that. Doesn't seem that it's
all kumbai ya between Aaron Rodgers and Woody Johnson right now?
I'm not so sure. I'm like fifty to fifty if
Rogers comes back, there are some veteran quarterbacks that could
(31:38):
be there for the taking. I don't know if the
Jets would be interested in bringing the Sam Darnold back
for fifty million a year. No, I seriously doubt it.
So do they bring back Rogers at about what twenty
four to twenty five million and go another year? Or
do they go to another direction? And Rogers has to
look for another team.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
You tell me, I see him bringing back Rogers honestly,
because here's the thing there's not.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
I mean is Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (32:04):
He's obviously it goes without saying way past his prime, right,
but him being way past his prime is still better
than Like, imagine if the Jets as taking Bryce Young,
for example, you'd rather have Aaron Rodgers than Bryce Young.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Okay, but you're giving me, you know, lower quarterbacks. There's
other quarterbacks you'd rather have over Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
I mean, he was he was a number one pick
in the draft. I'm saying a lot of these young
rookie quarterbacks don't pan out, or even if they do
pan out, maybe year two you're looking at a CJ.
Stroud situation where you're questioning a little bit more than
you used to or so I don't think that they
find a value a option that is going to be
good enough to really give them a better option to
(32:45):
win games. I think Aaron Rodgers gives the Jets the
best chance.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
To win games. And Quiet has kept Darnie.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
He's played pretty well the last maybe five games out He's.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
Played better than he had at the beginning.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
Of the year.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
There's no doubt about that. Give you that. What about
Mike McCarthy, Does he come back and coach for the
Dallas Cowboys. I say, I'm one hundred percent yes, I'll
come back. You could tell the way Jerry's talking that
he wants them back. And remember you had three straight
years of what twelve and five, twelve and four?
Speaker 5 (33:16):
Yeah, three straight twelve one season. I think he'll stay
in Dallas as well. They're gonna be able to justify
what happened this season due to some of the injuries
that happened, especially when you look at the way they
close the year out. What about Sam Donald? Here's an
interesting one. Does Minnesota keep them? Does JJ McCarthy get it?
(33:36):
Minnesota also has Daniel Jones on their roster. I believe
is somebody gonna give Sam Donald fifty million a year
for four years, make it two hundred million dollars? Or
is that just wischell? Thinking of Sam Donald, where does
he end up?
Speaker 4 (33:52):
I think he'll be in Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (33:53):
And I think if in fact, the Minnesota Vikings do
not at minimum franchise tag Sam Donald, it's malpractice. It's insanity.
To me.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
I don't understand it.
Speaker 5 (34:07):
You are hoping that JJ McCarthy becomes what Sam Donald
is doing right now, right right, but for a lot
cheaper there, Martin. Sure, but it's also unknown. You see,
you have bird in hand right now, you're watching Sam
Donald lead this team, right. It's like that's the difference
(34:28):
between you don't know what JJ's gonna be able to
go out there and do.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
And plus he was going to be a project coming
out of Michigan. Now he's had.
Speaker 5 (34:35):
Two different knee surgeries. You're not sure if he's going
to be able to come back. It's not like he's
been sitting like for example, Michael Pennix all season, where
he's getting scout team reps. At least, No, JJ's been
rehabbing all season. And I've played might surprise you, no
NFL football in my life. But what I have heard
is from the guys who have played it, when you
(34:56):
spend the summer rehabbing, that's the summer you don't spend
getting better at your game because you have to get
healthy in order to improve.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
So I think that's a bit.
Speaker 5 (35:05):
I think Minnesota would be foolish not to at least
minimum franchise Donald because the trademark room's gonna be insane.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
What about somebody like Daniel Jones. Does he still have
a starting spot somewhere in the in the NFL?
Speaker 5 (35:19):
Hell no, no, indeed, now he might be able to
get the Sam Donald treatment. Right, you go for a
year behind quarterback guru and then maybe signs you as
a bridge guy. But Daniel Jones being Daniel Joe, I'll
put it like, how about this, Daniel Jones will start
(35:39):
less than twenty five games in the rest of his NFL.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
Career well, because he could always get in with injury
and stuff like that.
Speaker 5 (35:48):
That's what I'm saying. They'll have two here, three there,
but there'll be less than twenty five starts. Very possible,
very possible.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
I'll tell you what we'll do, Martin Wiss, Arnie Spaniel
will come back, finish out the hours, get to some
tweets while also finish out what's going to happen next
year with some other guys. All that's coming up next
right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
All right, good evening, everyone, Martin Weiss, Orny Spaniard for
Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Carmon. On this
Thursday night, remember the Bonus Hour, Bill Krackenberger will stop
on by. We got to see what Bill likes and
who he's picking this weekend. Got a lot of games
to go through real quick. Just on a side note, Martin,
I saw where Cam Newton said, quote unquote, baseball is
(36:38):
a dying sport and the WNBA will be more popular
than baseball in twenty years. What do you think about that,
because one, if the NBA's losing ratings, I don't know
how the NBA the WNBA is going to thrive. Though
I do agree with him where baseball is a dying
sport and I don't know what they could do about it.
(36:59):
They've right a lot of different things, the runner on second,
the pitch clock to speed things up a little bit.
But I don't know if that's getting the people back.
What do you think.
Speaker 5 (37:10):
I think that I think it definitely is getting people
back in terms of the rule changes. I think though
Cam Newton does have a point in that the w
NBA gaining and popularity the biggest team, I think the
biggest sport.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
To feel that impact is baseball because of the timing
and everything.
Speaker 5 (37:33):
It's like we talk So I guess the way that
I look about it, in the way that Cam Newton
is talking about it, I think is not necessarily something
that is rooted in ratings are rooted in do you
know anything like that like attendance or the ticket at
the gate, Like you know what I'm saying, concession sales.
It's more what cuts through the national conversation. And I
(37:56):
think that Caitlin Clark will cut through the national conversation
for the next few years in a way that like,
for example, show hal Tani does.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
Right, But when you look at with Shoo time.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Hey that college women's game with you, Drew Watkins and
Page Beckers, Paige Beckers did very well ratings.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
Wise, right, So I think that we're starting to see
the development of someone like very much that the NBA
is showing they have a lack of marketable stars or
a lack of ability to market the stars that they
currently have. Women's basketball does not have that problem, right
when you talk about something like now and when Caitlin
Clark is the entryway for a lot of people into
the league.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
But the benefit of Dak Carnie.
Speaker 5 (38:38):
There's only twelve teams in the league, so you end
up if you just watch every Cat and Clark game,
you're gonna see the whole league, right right, You'll.
Speaker 4 (38:47):
See the whole league.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
So if you just watch, you know, half of her games,
you'll see everybody. You'll see the MVP, you'll see the
sixth man. You know, you'll see everybody playing there. Now, Baseball,
I think where Cam is off on that.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
Is I don't know too many games too hundred and
sixty two.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
Yeah, in the regular season, I agree.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
I hate gotta do the split season so people have
renewed interests. So you have two Pennant races, two opening days.
When your team's eighteen and a half games out of
first place, you don't have a reason to really go
to the game or be excited about your team. But
if you have a split season, then you do. No.
Speaker 5 (39:20):
But I also think, though an you tell me if
I'm wrong, But I think that a lot of people
this baseball playoffs this year. I think it was electric,
oh fantastic with the Yankees and the Dodgers ultimately getting
to the World Series.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
The World Series little anti climactic in terms of.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Games I'm a met fan.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
I loved it, and so I like, that's what the
key is.
Speaker 5 (39:39):
When your postseason delivers like that, you can't tell me
your sport is dead. Because more people watch the baseball
playoffs this year than it did in many years past.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
Right in the next year, the ratings, the attendance, that
has to play into this. Also, that's that's the factor too.
Speaker 5 (39:55):
No, it absolutely does. I'm just I don't think Cam
Newton and again I'm didn't watch it. I'm sorry, hand
up my bab, but I don't think Cam Newton was
talking about all of that in regards to why baseball
was dying, because I think you could point to a
lot of different things and be like, this is why
baseball is actually on the rise.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Compared to the last five.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
Years' WNBA, Who would that be funny if they got
more popular than the NBA.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
That's never gonna happen, though, hey man, look you who knows?
Who knows?
Speaker 5 (40:23):
But I do know this. The NBA needs. They need
a Caitlin Clark. That's as funny as it sounds.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
And well not why they're losing.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
I think.
Speaker 5 (40:35):
So, I think they need a new, hot, young star
and somebody that is that draws everybody's attention.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
And when Byama could have been that new star, you
know what I mean, You.
Speaker 5 (40:46):
Would like to think so, But then also too, I
don't know if he's got the charisma. See part of
what made Michael Jordan Michael Jordan was not only the
winning but he was freaking cool.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
Yes, who's cool right now? In the NBA? You know
that's I think that's the hole, the.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
Hole, right Martin. Three hours are in the books. The
Bonus Hour is coming up next. We'll wrap up everything
in the NFL. I want to get into Lamar Jackson,
Bill Krakenberger, Gonna stop on bike at about twenty past
the hour. We'll get a little bit into the draft.
Cde Lamb. We'll have our picks. All that coming up
next here on Fox
