and also the benefit of the fact that Saquan is
knocking on the door of Ed's all time rushing record.

So Eric Dickerson joined The Odd Couple earlier today to
talk about clarify some of his his statements. Let's hear
what he had to say about the opportunity that Saquon
bark how he feels about the opportunity to take one
Barkley has, which is to become the NFL's all time
single season leading rusher.

Speaker 6 (04:53):
Anybody ever broke that looks like my son break but
breaks the record. Look, I'm not gonna lose no sleepover,
you know as football. And they said, well you got you know,
you got eighteen weeks. I say, hey, you know that's
still for Oja did it in fourteen games. I a
would say that that so that was my favorite play.
I played the position running back because of him. So
he did it fourteen games. I did it fifteen games
with an extra game to play. So still, you know,
it's hard to get the two thousand yards. I mean,

it's a grueling season, it's a lot of hits. But
I mean he has a chance at it for sure.
But do I want him to break it? Hell no,
I don't.

I respect it. I respect it.

That doesn't sound to me like some of the other
people who were like, I don't.

The game this day.

Like he knows he broke Ojay's record, he had more
games to do it, and so the stands to reason
that whoever breaks his.

Could have more games to do it as well.

I don't think it takes anything away from OJ's record,
or to take anything from Eric Diggerson's record.

I think of oj didn't have the post career that
he is that.

He had prior to his death, then people will probably
look at it a little bit of a different light.
No one looks at Edie's record and be like, well,
you know what he did. You know, It's just that's
the record, That's what it is. This is just look,
you only get a handful all the chances to have
your name in the record books. He'd like it to
stay as long as possible. That's all I see. But
when he says, I'm not gonna lose sleepover, but I'm

not rooting for it in the same way people want
him to say he's rooting for it. But I appreciate
the honesty out of Eric Dickerson, and I do think
that if in fact, Sakwon Barkley breaks this record, which
I do not think he will, but if he is,
if he does break it, I think the first person
to congratulate him will be Eric Dickerson.

Well, Saint Juan's about two sixty five, if I remember,
I don't know, I could be a yard or two
off from breaking the record. He's got two games to
do it. So now I agree with you. I don't
mind him saying this, but I personally know Eric Dickerson Eric.
I used to work on Eric Dickerson's phone when I
worked at a Verizon story. That's how I met him.
And he did my radio show for me a few
times when I was over on Speaker dot Com and
iHeartRadio and Eric Dixon and I had a lot of

football conversations. And he's a very proud man. He will
be first to tell you, even coming out of high school,
how he was overrated. He was rated over excuse me,
you know all those guys in high school, John Lway
and Marino, all those guys are all coming out of
high school around the same time.

So he's very proud to tell you that.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
But the fact that he says, I'm not gonna lose
no sleep over it, but then try to like back
door but no, hell no, I don't want him to
break it. So it feels like, let me speak from
both sides. But this is a very proud gentleman. I
love the guy. When we talk, we have great conversation.
I love me some edie. Eric Dickison was a real
good guy man. But if you stay to talk so
long enough you let him know, Eric par think he

probably still could play today.

He's got like that. Jordan mentality right.

Speaker 5 (07:32):
Jordan at the seventy fifth anniversary with the team telling
Magic go get his shoes.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
And he meant it like he was not just talking
trash of the old guys around.

He said, I go go get your shoes on right now,
and all Magic can do was laugh because Magic knew
he couldn't say nothing. And you know, if he probably
went on the court play Jordan right now, Jordan would
beat him again like he was doing an eighty nine
ninety ninety one. But I think that he is a
little perturbed to somebody is kind of coming down after
his record.

But I don't have a problem with it.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
There are a few examples of when we've seen this
before were guys looked happy, but you could never really
like tell. But the one tellyone who didn't look happy
at all was Ray Allen when Steph Curry broke his record.

But see that Ray didn't look happy at all.

This is why I appreciate Eric Dickerson saying no, in fact,
I'd like my name to remain atop to the leader
boards in history. I got it now now I understood
like he knows that the record eventually will be broken,
if not by by someone body else. But it's like,
hold on a minute. That don't mean I got a
root for it. That don't mean I gotta want to.

Now.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
But you're not gonna lose no sleep over it. Well
to the point because you know, well it doesn't take
That's the thing.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
That Saquon breaking this record takes nothing away from his
accountohl at all. That's the point, in my opinion, the
point that he's trying to make him it's like I
still got all my trophies, I still got all my records.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
I was still the NFL leading rushing for all this time.
It's like at this point he's sat Eric and just
he's stacking on. You know what I'm saying. It's like
he's just adding another year to his rain. But it's not.
It doesn't go like infinitely better, Like all his stats
are done. He's done.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
So he's like, I've had my time, I got my
shine now. I just don't necessarily like I think it
would be cool though, whenever when he's radio hosts are
doing trivia questions and you asked, who's the leading rusher
in the NFL history, that.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
If I said Eric Dickerson, something else too, that I
had the key in on as I because I read
it and I listened to it Tom and Tom again,
I'm like, okay, he throws in there. Now he throws
in you know, well OJ did it in four all right, cool,
So if OJ did it at fourteen, you still have
the single season record, but it took you sixteen to
get yours. And then he made short to throw and

say Kwan got the extra game at you know, seventeen.
He never mentions that he had two extra more games
than OJ.

He does he did, he did?

Okay, I did know you didn't say it on the
odd couple, but he said it to Sam Farmer in
the LA I think that's the one I read. In fact,
he said it on this because he said I got
him to playing football because OJ was my favorite player.

Yeah, but you know, but no what he talks about
that part, I thought him saying, you know OJ did
in fourteen, and say Kwan's gonna get the you know,
but he's acknowledging that OJ had less time to do
it than he did.

Otherwise he wouldn't bring it up.

I would have liked it if he'd cut it right there,
because the then mentioned that Sa Kwan's got an extra
game than him to beat it because OJ don't got
the record.

He has the record now.

But he also says too in the quote later, the
one he was more proud of, I guess was the
rookie Russian record, which is eighteen oh eight or eighteen
oh somewhere in that range. You only get to be
a rookie. You only get to be a rookie once.
And I liked that part of I said, Okay, well,
that actually does make a lot of it. When you
break a rookie record, that means every year that everybody
in that class you got one shot at this, because
in year two you're not a rookie anymore.

So that record is good from that year.

When that year on it, it's like the undefeated Dolphins, right,
each team you only get one shot to do this
the season, and if you can't get it done, we're
gonna go ahead and celebrate. But yeah, there was another

The night that McGuire hit the home run to break
the record, Sammy had almost like the the I don't

go on, they celebrate enough, like stop keep bringing me

record broken by Ricky Williams, it was smiles and collaps
but it looked more like yeah you you you bleep
bleep bleed bleep. Then both my I always like to
see if a guy's either gonna be not Like. I
didn't have no problem with ray Allen. I thought it
was funny because you could just tell he didn't like
that at all. He wasn't one, didn't want to be
part of it, wasn't too happy that his record was broken.

I just thought it was just a cool topic because
when I heard that, I like, I said, I know
the gentleman, so coming from him, I'm like, yeah, they're
going they're gonna man e ed No, he doesn't want him.

or later it is going to be. He needs we
need this since we need more honesty.

impact on my standings in the postseason? Do I do

I manufacturer bye? And seems to me to be the

type of guy they would have to lose Sunday for
him to play in week a team that the division
tend to think that they will beat the Cowboys, And
so I think the division, like you know what wrapped
up to me, seems like the type of guy who
would say, I want to do what's best for the team.

we don't want you heard for this postseason run, he'd said.

I really think that. I mean because the only reason

why I have no idea what day of the week
it is because Wednesday was a random day off. Then
I had a Thursday night football game and a day
it felt like Monday. Right now, I'm watching college football
on a Friday, and I'm about to break down NFL
games that are going to be happening on a Saturday.

And then we're right so I can hear tomorrow for
our show exactly.

And there's NFL Saturday, which is something that is something
that is like, hold on, wait a minute, I'm not
really understanding this.

you gotta play the Peacock game on Black Friday, you
gotta play that Wednesday Christmas game.

You know, all these different standalone games that they're trying
to create and make into new primetime windows.

So I say all this to say, if you are good, if.

you must have outside.

Of you know, great quarterback, great coach, so on and
so forth. If you don't have depth in it's over.

pretty good record. George Pickens goes down. They got nothing
on the outside, right, what happens to their offense?

As we see these games stretched out more and more,
it's gonna matter.

fifty three right now. I think your final rosters should

and this was my take. That was this is my
opinion then and now I have no sympathy. I know sympathy, man,

because the main thing was like the Chiefs, right, and
the narrative is, man, God, the Chiefs have to carry,
you know, the ratings for the prime time and this
and that other.

The Cowboys had to do it for years. The Niners

the schedule release in May, which is a big deal
on the calendar. Football calendar. For me, I get excited
cause I get to watch Michael Lovin scream and Haler

you gotta put the big dogs on Christmas, Christmas Eve,
