Martin Weiss and BJ Husky filling in for Jason Smith
and his best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
My fault. I don't know if the microphone just picked
that up.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
I'm trying to watch this video of you use of
nrdkis Don and Marshall and PJ.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Washington getting in a fight.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
PJR Punt just throwing in the NBA VJ actual well
a punch thrown, which is news, and they squabble it
teach your man how to squabble exactly, h this is
that thirty yeah, pj washing and swung and uh Nirkis
gets punched in the face more than you think. Yeah
if he ain't take it though, he's got one of
(01:17):
those punchable faces.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
That's not Marshallah. He's got a punch. He's got a
face that looks like it could take up. But like
punching Jokic, I don't think would hurt him.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
No, this isn't yo Kic, just us.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
I was using him as an example another guy that
looks like if I punched him, his like his face
would stop back and you'd just be like, oh my
bad dog, I slipped.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
See Now, I I respect Nurkic. I mean I respect
Marshall here in this moment because Nirkis tried to do
what honestly is more disrespectful than a punch.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
He tried to mush oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah. He
tried to mush Marshall.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Move the mush hand out of the way, and then
swung with this dom in hand almost connected with nurkicen
the jaw.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
I think I'm team Marshall here, Team Marshall here. I'm
sitting here watching it right now. So too.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
But Nurkic is always into something, though, man, always into something.
But he does play a little little rough talking a
little bit. I see these guys going back and forth talking.
He walks right up to him.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
He walk the mush and right, and he thought he
was gonna be able to mush with no consequence.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
I don't like that.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
Nah, nah nah, if you gonna stand on your mud nah.
He did mush him though, He big boy to them
walking up to him. What's upon it? What's up?
Speaker 4 (02:31):
I'm old?
Speaker 5 (02:32):
Oh no, that's not a mush yerk. No, that's a
punch bro that's a swing. That's not a nush, I'm saying.
Nurkic mushed Marshall. The Suns player mushed Marshall.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Look at that.
Speaker 5 (02:43):
It kind of looks like an overhand slap. I feel you, though,
but a slap to me, I was gonna throw that.
It was more embarrassing than even a mush, as if
a dude grab you by your neck collar and slap you.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
This all happened because Nirkics elbow Daniel Gafford in the ear.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Yeah, on a play, big man.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
He's walking back to see. I think it's get back
to him to check in on him. But the whole
MAVs team, You're like, oh, whoa, then is part of
this money?
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Hyree's facial expression changes just ever so slightly, but you
can tell he's like, well, I'm not getting involved in
any of this.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
That punch that land, I'm sorry'm looking at from another
angle to punch that lamb.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
I know, but I'm saying, even though he missed the punch,
all right, but if we never see it, punch thrown
in the noot, he throws a punch.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
I am in favor of this punch being thrown, a
real punch.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
You can't you can't mush. You can't mush with no consequence.
I know this is the NBA, and as Lonzo Ball
famously said.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Ain't no fighting. Nobody wants to fight.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
But if you're gonna mush me, I get an opportunity
to swing back.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
I tell you this though, also I don't I don't
see nothing. Really.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
It's it's a big man making a move and a
guy trying to buy him up. He's lifting up his
arm to clear some space. It wasn't even a malicious.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah, we don't have the content. We don't know what
happened three minutes prior or anything like that.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
This was any situation in basketball, but just going on
for this what I'm saying. But yeah, I mean, I
pretty sure it could be a testy game. You know,
Western Conference, Dallas and Phoenix both fighting for playoff position
right now. So even though it's early, this is these
games are important, man, These games are important. But anyway,
carry on out, Eric Dickerson, My dude, the quote heard.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Around the world.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
I don't want sa Kwon Barkley to break my record,
told the Sam Farmer the La Times. That was yesterday,
and uh, both a benefit of a slow news week
and also the benefit of the fact that Saquan is
knocking on the door of Ed's all time rushing record.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
This quote was everywhere yesterday.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
So Eric Dickerson joined The Odd Couple earlier today to
talk about clarify some of his his statements. Let's hear
what he had to say about the opportunity that Saquon
bark how he feels about the opportunity to take one
Barkley has, which is to become the NFL's all time
single season leading rusher.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
Anybody ever broke that looks like my son break but
breaks the record. Look, I'm not gonna lose no sleepover,
you know as football. And they said, well you got you know,
you got eighteen weeks. I say, hey, you know that's
still for Oja did it in fourteen games. I a
would say that that so that was my favorite play.
I played the position running back because of him. So
he did it fourteen games. I did it fifteen games
with an extra game to play. So still, you know,
it's hard to get the two thousand yards. I mean,
(05:15):
it's a grueling season, it's a lot of hits. But
I mean he has a chance at it for sure.
But do I want him to break it? Hell no,
I don't.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
I respect it. I respect it.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
That doesn't sound to me like some of the other
people who were like, I don't.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
The game this day.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Like he knows he broke Ojay's record, he had more
games to do it, and so the stands to reason
that whoever breaks his.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Could have more games to do it as well.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
I don't think it takes anything away from OJ's record,
or to take anything from Eric Diggerson's record.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
I think of oj didn't have the post career that
he is that.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
He had prior to his death, then people will probably
look at it a little bit of a different light.
No one looks at Edie's record and be like, well,
you know what he did. You know, It's just that's
the record, That's what it is. This is just look,
you only get a handful all the chances to have
your name in the record books. He'd like it to
stay as long as possible. That's all I see. But
when he says, I'm not gonna lose sleepover, but I'm
(06:07):
not rooting for it in the same way people want
him to say he's rooting for it. But I appreciate
the honesty out of Eric Dickerson, and I do think
that if in fact, Sakwon Barkley breaks this record, which
I do not think he will, but if he is,
if he does break it, I think the first person
to congratulate him will be Eric Dickerson.
Speaker 5 (06:25):
Well, Saint Juan's about two sixty five, if I remember,
I don't know, I could be a yard or two
off from breaking the record. He's got two games to
do it. So now I agree with you. I don't
mind him saying this, but I personally know Eric Dickerson Eric.
I used to work on Eric Dickerson's phone when I
worked at a Verizon story. That's how I met him.
And he did my radio show for me a few
times when I was over on Speaker dot Com and
iHeartRadio and Eric Dixon and I had a lot of
(06:48):
football conversations. And he's a very proud man. He will
be first to tell you, even coming out of high school,
how he was overrated. He was rated over excuse me,
you know all those guys in high school, John Lway
and Marino, all those guys are all coming out of
high school around the same time.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
So he's very proud to tell you that.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
But the fact that he says, I'm not gonna lose
no sleep over it, but then try to like back
door but no, hell no, I don't want him to
break it. So it feels like, let me speak from
both sides. But this is a very proud gentleman. I
love the guy. When we talk, we have great conversation.
I love me some edie. Eric Dickison was a real
good guy man. But if you stay to talk so
long enough you let him know, Eric par think he
(07:28):
probably still could play today.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
He's got like that. Jordan mentality right.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
Jordan at the seventy fifth anniversary with the team telling
Magic go get his shoes.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
And he meant it like he was not just talking
trash of the old guys around.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
He said, I go go get your shoes on right now,
and all Magic can do was laugh because Magic knew
he couldn't say nothing. And you know, if he probably
went on the court play Jordan right now, Jordan would
beat him again like he was doing an eighty nine
ninety ninety one. But I think that he is a
little perturbed to somebody is kind of coming down after
his record.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
But I don't have a problem with it.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
There are a few examples of when we've seen this
before were guys looked happy, but you could never really
like tell. But the one tellyone who didn't look happy
at all was Ray Allen when Steph Curry broke his record.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
But see that Ray didn't look happy at all.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
This is why I appreciate Eric Dickerson saying no, in fact,
I'd like my name to remain atop to the leader
boards in history. I got it now now I understood
like he knows that the record eventually will be broken,
if not by by someone body else. But it's like,
hold on a minute. That don't mean I got a
root for it. That don't mean I gotta want to.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Now.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
But you're not gonna lose no sleep over it. Well
to the point because you know, well it doesn't take
That's the thing.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
That Saquon breaking this record takes nothing away from his
accountohl at all. That's the point, in my opinion, the
point that he's trying to make him it's like I
still got all my trophies, I still got all my records.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
I was still the NFL leading rushing for all this time.
It's like at this point he's sat Eric and just
he's stacking on. You know what I'm saying. It's like
he's just adding another year to his rain. But it's not.
It doesn't go like infinitely better, Like all his stats
are done. He's done.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
So he's like, I've had my time, I got my
shine now. I just don't necessarily like I think it
would be cool though, whenever when he's radio hosts are
doing trivia questions and you asked, who's the leading rusher
in the NFL history, that.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
If I said Eric Dickerson, something else too, that I
had the key in on as I because I read
it and I listened to it Tom and Tom again,
I'm like, okay, he throws in there. Now he throws
in you know, well OJ did it in four all right, cool,
So if OJ did it at fourteen, you still have
the single season record, but it took you sixteen to
get yours. And then he made short to throw and
(09:45):
say Kwan got the extra game at you know, seventeen.
He never mentions that he had two extra more games
than OJ.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
He does he did, he did?
Speaker 6 (09:54):
He?
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Okay, I did know you didn't say it on the
odd couple, but he said it to Sam Farmer in
the LA I think that's the one I read. In fact,
he said it on this because he said I got
him to playing football because OJ was my favorite player.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Ojf turn on that part.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Yeah, but you know, but no what he talks about
that part, I thought him saying, you know OJ did
in fourteen, and say Kwan's gonna get the you know,
but he's acknowledging that OJ had less time to do
it than he did.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
Otherwise he wouldn't bring it up.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
I would have liked it if he'd cut it right there,
because the then mentioned that Sa Kwan's got an extra
game than him to beat it because OJ don't got
the record.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
He has the record now.
Speaker 5 (10:28):
But he also says too in the quote later, the
one he was more proud of, I guess was the
rookie Russian record, which is eighteen oh eight or eighteen
oh somewhere in that range. You only get to be
a rookie. You only get to be a rookie once.
And I liked that part of I said, Okay, well,
that actually does make a lot of it. When you
break a rookie record, that means every year that everybody
in that class you got one shot at this, because
in year two you're not a rookie anymore.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
So that record is good from that year.
Speaker 5 (10:51):
When that year on it, it's like the undefeated Dolphins, right,
each team you only get one shot to do this
the season, and if you can't get it done, we're
gonna go ahead and celebrate. But yeah, there was another
one too. Do you remember when McGuire and Soso we're
going for the record night, although albeit they were both players.
The night that McGuire hit the home run to break
the record, Sammy had almost like the the I don't
(11:14):
want to call it a fake smile, but it was
just kind of like, ah, man, dude, I'm not too
happy for you. I wanted this, like all this fanfarew're
getting cause you guys go back and look at the clip.
Butguire kept going back to him to do his sammy thing,
and they're up top and punching it. You could just
tell at some point Sosa's like, all right, bro, like
go on, they celebrate enough, like stop keep bringing me
into it. And then when Tony Dorset had his Russian
(11:36):
record broken by Ricky Williams, it was smiles and collaps
but it looked more like yeah you you you bleep
bleep bleed bleep. Then both my I always like to
see if a guy's either gonna be not Like. I
didn't have no problem with ray Allen. I thought it
was funny because you could just tell he didn't like
that at all. He wasn't one, didn't want to be
part of it, wasn't too happy that his record was broken.
(11:58):
I just thought it was just a cool topic because
when I heard that, I like, I said, I know
the gentleman, so coming from him, I'm like, yeah, they're
going they're gonna man e ed No, he doesn't want him.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
To break his record. I get all that play. Sooner
or later it is going to be. He needs we
need this since we need more honesty.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
I want you with less afraid to say something that
might not you know, rub everybody the right way.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Taekwon get it.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
No, hmmm, Dallas's defense, Eagles defense, I mean Giants defense.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
I just he's gonna need one hundred and thirty four
yards in the next two games.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
He's getting twenty plus. Carris next get two games. They're
not gonna put the ball in. They're not gonna put
the game in. Kenny Picketts Hans.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Well, I think the next the last game of the
season may not matter to them at all. Two leaders.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Well, I'm just saying I know the last game season,
like I did the You get into a position where
you're like, do I go for this record or do
I rest Saquon Barkley because this game will have no
impact on my standings in the postseason? Do I do
I manufacture the bye? I'm not able to it because
there I'm locked out of the one seed. So do
I manufacturer bye? And seems to me to be the
(13:06):
type of guy they would have to lose Sunday for
him to play in week a team that the division
tend to think that they will beat the Cowboys, And
so I think the division, like you know what wrapped
up to me, seems like the type of guy who
would say, I want to do what's best for the team.
(13:27):
And if the team said, hey, we want to sit you,
we don't want you heard for this postseason run, he'd said.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
I really think that. I mean because the only reason
I think that is.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Because we I heard the micd up clipper when Siriani
went to and said the third game games away from
the single game, and he said, let the young guys
get some runs.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
All right. So I've given my charity for this year.
I've given it, right, real, I've given my charity this year.
Earlier this year, I sat. But now we're talking. We're
not talking about single game. We're talking about the single season.
I hear what you're saying.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
I just it.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Just I gave my charity already, Coach, I'm playing.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
I just I just I just have that feeling in
my gut that he would say whatever the team wants
me to do, and if the teams we got to
get Kenneth gainwell twenty seven carries in week eighteen.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
I think that's what would happen.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Speaking of this, this NFL scheduling part of the reason
why I have no idea what day of the week
it is because Wednesday was a random day off. Then
I had a Thursday night football game and a day
it felt like Monday. Right now, I'm watching college football
on a Friday, and I'm about to break down NFL
games that are going to be happening on a Saturday.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
And then we're right so I can hear tomorrow for
our show exactly.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
And there's NFL Saturday, which is something that is something
that is like, hold on, wait a minute, I'm not
really understanding this.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
I have a feeling.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
And you can see that the NFL as well. Some
teams have adjusted, some teams haven't. A stat that will
alarm you, and it shows you who the haves and
the have nots are in the league. Watching our favorite
NBA players is the gift that keeps on giving, especially
if Marshall is swinging that right hook and nurkics, you know,
ducking and dodging, trying to slip his slides, trying to

Martin Wise Vietehowski filling in for Jason Smith and his
best friend Mike Harmon here on Fox Sports Radio Come
to you live from the tire IRAQ dot com studios VJ.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
We had NFL teams with you know a lot of people.
I love that.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Patrick Mahomes said, you know, I'd rather kind of not
play three games in eleven days, and the NFL.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Was like, deal with it.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
You know, it is like you know, you see, But
it wasn't just the Chiefs that played three games in
eleven days. Right now, I'm looking for the list.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
It was all of those all think what the Ravens, Texans,
it was all of them. All the teams that played
on Christmas, played three games in eleven days. All of
them got it all right, there them go. So when
you very clever scheduling too to get that downpack. Honestly,
if you're the schedule makers, you know what I'm saying,
travel concerts, then you know things that aren't happening in
(17:31):
Bowl games.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
That's crazy.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
I think a lot of it sometimes will be the
travel and concerts. I might have to cancel this concert. Yeah, alright,
So anyway, I bring this up because when we were
uh so okay, actually here's the list. Six teams played
(17:54):
three games in eleven days. So you know all the
ones that played on Christmas, except for the Ravens. I
believe o a bye week fourteen bye right. The Jets
did earlier this year. The package is earlier this year.
We are going to have this scenario occur more and
more and more for the better and better teams, because
(18:18):
as we are in this media landscape where we're losing
the traditional cable day by day right minute by minute though,
we're losing that subscriber base and that whole.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
Model is failing.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
The NFL partnering with the streaming services Amazon, Netflix, so on.
You may remember Thursday Night football in late game later
and then near the end of the year was almost
always a Derrek Henry Titans Jags special, Derek Henry Blake
Bortles special, two teams with seven wins combined. That's not
(18:57):
happening in Thursday night football anymore, no, right, even though
like the Bears, people thought that, I mean, that was
that game. Notwithstanding we'd look at Rams Rams forty nine
ers if that's a game that generally would have been
for the division. If everything a playoff kind of has predicted,
the NFL is going to more increasingly, more and more
and more be putting its best teams and uncomfortable positions
(19:20):
in order to get higher ratings because they're gonna be like, no, no, no, Chiefs,
you gotta play the Peacock game on Black Friday, you
gotta play that Wednesday Christmas game.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
You gotta play that.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
You know, all these different standalone games that they're trying
to create and make into new primetime windows.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
So I say all this to say, if you are good, if.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
You are a team that is planning on being a
good team in the NFL, the number one thing that
you must have outside.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
Of you know, great quarterback, great coach, so on and
so forth. If you don't have depth in it's over.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Ye. You look at the Steelers, look at their record,
pretty good record. George Pickens goes down. They got nothing
on the outside, right, what happens to their offense?
Speaker 4 (20:05):
Cancel? Good Christmas? Over right? Blow up? Houston Texans.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
Stefan Diggs goes down, Nico Collins gets hurt, Tank Dell
goes down, Collins comes back.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
What happened to them on Christmas Day?
Speaker 6 (20:20):
B two?
Speaker 4 (20:21):
A deuce? Right, dude, they don't have the depth deuze right?
Who points?
Speaker 3 (20:26):
You look at some of these they don't have the depth. Now,
the Bears don't have the depth of their coaching staffs
even pretend to be good. Right, But it's gonna be
a thing increasingly more and more and more, and you
look at some of these teams. Roster construction is going
to matter more and more and more in the NFL.
As we see these games stretched out more and more,
it's gonna matter.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
It's a big deal.
Speaker 5 (20:48):
Not only that they need to add roster spots. I
like sixty, man, they can add seven more guys. It's
fifty three right now. I think your final rosters should
be sixty all right, aaron I talked about this the
other day. Can we're in for Christmas four hours filling
in and we had miss Monti Bilanios over there on
the up dead desk and she jumped in on this too,
and this was my take. That was this is my
opinion then and now I have no sympathy. I know sympathy, man,
(21:10):
because the main thing was like the Chiefs, right, and
the narrative is, man, God, the Chiefs have to carry,
you know, the ratings for the prime time and this
and that other.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Guess what. The Patriots had to do it for years.
The Cowboys had to do it for years. The Niners
had to do it for years.
Speaker 6 (21:26):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
They have to carry. Yeah, you're right, but you cannot.
This is what you can't do on Christmas Day.
Speaker 6 (21:32):
Guys.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
You can't give me Panthers and Jacks.
Speaker 5 (21:35):
You can't give me even even we get Raiders, but
you know we get we get Raiders and Chiefs. We
don't get Raiders and Broncos, even though the Broncos having
a good year. You can't schedule that game that day.
When you're making these games in April and March for
the schedule release in May, which is a big deal
on the calendar. Football calendar. For me, I get excited
cause I get to watch Michael Lovin scream and Haler
(21:57):
and talk about how you gotta be ready.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
State.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
I love listening to people talk about the schedules. So
you gotta put the big dogs on Christmas, Christmas Eve,
New Year's Eve, New Year's Day. Wasn't there a year
where New Year's Day fell in on a Sunday? And
you know they moved the ball games. They moved the
ball games. Couldn't like, dude, it is a full slate
of NFL games. So the ball games were Monday, the
(22:21):
Rose Bowl, the Sugar Bowl. If he has the ball,
then fids the balls to the following day on the Tuesday.
NFL rules, And I don't. I don't have any sympathy
if you don't want to be guess what if you
don't want to be on the prime time go play
in Carolina, go play, Go play for the Saints, go
play for the Giants. If that's what if you don't
want to be on these days, no sympathy for it.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
I love it.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
Keep giving me the big games. Now, it didn't work
out that way. All three of these games were All
three were duds. All three games were terrible. There were duds.
But this is a very This is a part of
the season two where like when you watch that Chiefs game,
you could tell.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
They ratcheted up for that game.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
I talked about Kelsey on air that night on that
day where he's kind of.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
Big and it's not a bad thing.
Speaker 5 (23:01):
He realizes that he's what thirty four to thirty five
coming down the stretch. They need me more importantly in
December and January than my fantasy owners need me in
September and October.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
And you can see it.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
On Christmas Day, Kelsey looked like a different guy, lowering
the shoulder, dragging guys like okay. The last three weeks,
Kelsey's kind of like, okay, now, let me turn it on. Now,
let's go get this three p now, let me turn
it on type of deal. But you know, you gotta
put the big dogs on. I thought Mahomes performed and
(23:34):
Lamar Jackson performed. The big guys didn't perform. We didn't
get just everybody. Last night's game was just terrible. But
in the other two on Christmas Day, the big name
the two two of the last excuse me, for the
last six I believe MVPs. They performed, They gave us
what we wanted. The games just didn't delivered. And I think,
you know it's a little bit of an overload, but
three games in eleven days when you're when you're one
(23:56):
of the.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
Top teams, just sucking acts the Bulls. You think Jordan had.
Jordan the Bulls carried the NBA TV rate for ten years.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
I'm just saying, if you're gonna be these teams that
are in this spot, guess what if you have been
lucky enough to get one of these A list quarterbacks, Mom,
Josh Allen, Joe.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
Burrow, whoever, whoever, whoever, Lamar.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
Jackson, guess what you are now have the burden of
being successful, and that means you're gonna have to build
out that roster because you are going to have to
sit guys, rest guys.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Justin Watson's gonna have to make a few plays, you
know on Christmas Day.
Speaker 5 (24:35):
Or Pat mahomes is gonna have to throw the guys
or hand the ball to a running back that you go, wow,
I forgot they did bring kream Hunt back exactly Wow,
diving in the end.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
Zone, slamming the ball on Christmas morning.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
So, speaking of Lamar Jackson, we've had history made, yes,
and a conference that had quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, Philip Rivers,
Matt Ryan Maddy. I use Trevor Lawrence. He walked down
Nick Saban, No he's not.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
I'm talking.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
We're talking about college, talking about Collas cam Ward this year,
Philip Rivers, Deshaun Watson, you name it. The record holder
for most passing yards in a season in the ACC.
Kyle McCord did he thirty six touchdowns, twelve interceptions, a
top fifteen QBR in all of college football.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
Now, apropos nothing. I just wonder what's well Howard stats?
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Okay, Kyle McCord four thousand, six hundred and forty one
passing yards, Will Howard three thousand, one hundred and seventy one.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
Kyle mccorr thirty six total.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Touchdowns, Will Howard's twenty nine. Kyle McCord twelve interceptions, Will Howard.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Nine. So he beat him there, But you.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Know he also three for fifteen hundred more yards. I
don't know, man, Sometimes you know the grass might not
be that much greener Kyle McCord, as he is now
the ACC conference leader in most passing yards for a.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Season four season. Wow.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
For the results of that game and everything else here,
Steve de say, you're updating us on everything in the
world sports, Steve.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
We certainly will get to that.
Speaker 8 (26:20):
By the way, as you talked about schedules, the Rose
Bowl will never be on a Sunday because the Rose
Parade will never be honest.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Here you go.
Speaker 8 (26:28):
They are very very happy to be locked in as
a quarterfinal. They don't care about moving on to be
a semi or anything because they don't want to move
off their regular slot on January first, thank you. So
we're going to have the three three of the quarterfinals
out of the four coming up January first. We're gonna
have one the night before, and until then we've got
some Bowl matchups like the late game Las Vegas Bowl.
(26:48):
USC has tied it up seven to seven against Texas
A and M early second quarter, and then there's that
game on Fox TV.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Reference.
Speaker 8 (26:55):
We got about two minutes left twenty first strengths. Syracuse
leads fifty two to twenty eight over Washington State. Kyle
McCord five touchdown passes, He's twenty four of thirty four
for four hundred fifty three yards on twenty four completions
over four hundred and fifty yards in this game fifty
two to twenty eight. Syracuse ready to finish the season
(27:18):
ten and three. Arkansas at Navy with wins Vanderbilt as well.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is still in concussion protocol.
The Dodgers re signed outfielder ta Oscar Hernandez. The Sacramento
Kings fired coach Mike Brown to the NBA late game
It's in LA and the Clippers late third quarter League
Golden State sixty seven to fifty eight. Steph Curry out
(27:38):
due to the bad knee. Cleveland won again twenty seven
and four record for the Cavs After winning at Denver
one forty nine to one thirty five. Dallas won at
Phoenix ninety eight eighty nine for the Suns. Kevin Durant
had thirty five points out of the eighty nine in
the loss.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
For Memphis.
Speaker 8 (27:54):
John Morant left with a shoulder injury twenty five points
in twenty five minutes in at Grizzlies win at New
New Orleans one thirty two to one twenty four Minnesota
with a twenty to four run to end the game
and went at Houston one thirteen, one twelve Anthony Edwards
game winning three pointer, Boston won again. New York won
at sixth straight San Antonio with a victory. Anthony Davis
and the Lakers is questionable for Saturday with an ankle injury,
(28:17):
and Lebron James is questionable due to illness. Milwaukee's Giannis
Antanacumpo is questionable for Saturday due to illness. For Philadelphia,
Joelle Embii questionable for Saturday due to spring foot and
sinus fracture. Miami's Jimmy Butler is out this weekend after
an illness and among the eight NHL games, New Jersey
a four two winner at home over Carolina. Minnesota wins
(28:38):
it overtime at Dallas three to two.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Back to you, thanks Steve Martin and Vida coming to
you liven He Tire Rack dot Com Studios, Martin Wise,
vidar Husky filling in for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon.
So you know, vday we had. Obviously, Christmas Day came
and went Merry Christmas to all into all the good night.
Speaker 5 (28:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
Uh. Lebron James after he and Steph Curry put on
a masterclass in the NBA that I personally did not
watch a second of live just for the sake, did
you watch any basketball on Wednesday? I was just about
to say. Lebron said, the NBA Christmas is their day.
Speaker 6 (29:19):
The do you have it?
Speaker 4 (29:22):
Let's play it. I love the NFL. I love the NFL.
Christmas our Day.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
And that was followed with a James Harden style look
at the camera and walk off right show VJ Hmm,
is the NBA still Christmas Day's day?
Speaker 4 (29:41):
No, it's not.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
And it only took the NFL one year to take
from you what you've had, like the entire time your
your league has been on live television. It's been Christmas
Day game since I was a kid. And it took
one year, one year for the NFL to do this.
You know what the total view guys, the viewing for
these games for the NFL, just for one game was
(30:06):
a twenty four point three. The other game was a
twenty four point six. Beyonce got a twenty six point
eight or twenty six point nine her Have Time performance
something ridiculous like that, right, So two million more people
tuned in to watch Beyonce. The average NBA viewership was
at about five million, and when you add all the
games up, guess what, guys, it didn't total what the
(30:26):
one game in the NFL did. And Christmas is your day.
That's one point. The second point, the cringiest thing that
he just always seems to do. Let me try to
say something that sounds cool so they could go, yeah, Lebron,
you tell them and then copy James Harden's stare and
walk off like, give me a break. Christmas Day ain't yours.
(30:47):
Nobody watched them games. We talked about it in here
on Christmas Day, the NBA games, especially when.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
You have children.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
One day, Marty and I pray that you were gonna
experience this one day when you're unwrapping gifts and you
have fly and stuff.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
You're doing the Christmas morning thing. The game is background noise.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
No one's gathered around the TV watching the Knicks and
watching Victor Winbayama put up forty something to eighteen. No,
it's in the background the NFL you are watching, You
are unwrapping gifts. I can't tell you, guys how I'm
unwrapping gifts, recording my daughter, recording my son.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
But ten o'clock gotta put this Chiefs game on, it's
the NFL. I didn't even remember. I said, Oh, man, forgot,
there's an NBA game on.
Speaker 5 (31:30):
I put that on one of my iPads and sat
it on the couch next to me and just glanced
down from time to time at the score.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
No, it's not your day no more. NBA, NFL is king.
Football is king.
Speaker 5 (31:41):
Y'all better just get used to it. Jordan ain't around
no more. Kobe and Shock not around no more. Where's
the storylines in the NBA? Why are we watching?
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Right?
Speaker 5 (31:49):
I'm watching because we're in the business. But why is
the average guy or woman gonna wake up on Christmas morning?
Especially out here in Los Angeles Mark where the game
started at nine am. I know some people that slept in.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
People. Oh yeah, we let the kids sleep in. We
didn't open gifts till like eleven.
Speaker 5 (32:03):
Right, my daughter's rubbing me in the morning, like six
forty five day Daddy Santa came. I'm like, okay, Mama,
here I come, even though I didn't fall asleep till
four thirty in the morning. Here I come, Mamma. Let's
let's let's go get these presents. And then the game
just became like an afterthought. I did because I was
somewhere having dinner. I did watch the entire second half
of the uh what was the last one of the
Nuggets and Sons? No idea, Yeah, the Nuggets and Sons.
(32:26):
I did watch it, but I was over someone's house.
We're eating, we're chilling, have some gumbo, talking sports. The
game was on, so I did sit there and you know,
watch the game, but I didn't watch a look at
the Liquor game. I didn't see any of that game.
I listened to some of it on the Writer and
Rady on to drive down to Iglewood. I did that,
but other than that, no, man, that was uh yeah,
that was crazy for him. Since then, but like I said,
(32:48):
I get it. Lebron's gotta Laura's got to be the
cool guy and too cool for school. The NBA is
Are I love the NFL? Yeah, okay, buddy, everybody does.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
I'll just skip over everything about the actual person who
said it and address the message because I don't care
about Lebron honestly.
Speaker 5 (33:04):
Yeah, we know you don't. Mary, I'm sorry, I don't
know who gives it almost four most some people do care, bro,
just because you don't don't mean other people.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
It's been a tired conversation for the last ten years,
but either way, and so we let's be the change.
But I think in terms of the NBA ratings, I
also care about that the day I'm a TV executive.
But I think the bigger thing with the NBA is
is just a story of you had an opportunity to
make this yours and when the end. Now, there will
(33:34):
be three games next Christmas on Thursday. In the NFL,
there will be games on Christmas Friday right there, So
like every day now, we won't have this weird three
games of eleven days for literally another six years.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
And so congratulations to the NBA again. You had this moment.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
You had a moment after COVID where you could you
could have taken a real, a real target share by
adjusting your season. That whole summer we watched basketball and
baseball at the same time. And you know what they said, No,
we don't want to circumvent the Olympics and all this that,
(34:15):
And they'd take an Olympic break like the WNBA and
the NHL if need be, because that's when people have
the time to watch you. No one has the time
to watch you when there's a football game on. Now,
if you understand that and you accept it, then you
can move on from this. Why isn't anybody watching the NBA.
No one's watching the NBA because literally, the one of
(34:36):
the only reasons people still have live programming is on TV.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
It's one of the only reasons people still.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
Have live cable programming is because they want to watch football.
People sign up for YouTube TV to get Sunday ticket
to watch.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
Their team, right that Netflix just to probably watch the
Christmas Day we have it didn't have it.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
I'm pretty sure they signed up for Amazon Prime. People
sign I have Peacock because I have to watch Sunday night.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
Football on it. Absolutely, so don't try to compete with that.
We are the consumer is telling America we will pay
subscription feeds for football.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
For football, your games up against Dancing with the Stars
and the Bass Singer and the rest of the crap
that comes on on most.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
Other Wednesday nights. They might not even be the first
to show.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
You just named put your games up against that, and
maybe you'd get a number more than five million, because
some of the twenty five million watching the Chiefs or
watching the Ravens on Christmas, they probably would watch the
Knicks if they had more than one TV.
Speaker 6 (35:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
Absolutely, it just drives me also to it. It was
just a lot. It was a lot to try to
keep up with.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
It felt crowded and at the end of the day,
think about it, Mark, No, what five NBA games on,
but only two football games and people still didn't watch
the NBA games. Like after the football games are over,
you don't have two NBA games to watch, and people still.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
Didn't watch them.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
And for the record, I've been there's been a ton
of like victory laps done about the Netflix viewership of
sixty four million dollars international worldwide whatever football fight.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
No, I'm talking about for the these uh for these
games years. Ok.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Yeah, there's been a ton of like people doing laps
for victory laps on that one, and.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
They are down.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
The Netflix doubleheader is down twenty percent from last year's
one eighty eighty one point four million for the games
that were on CBS.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
And Fox last Christmas. Last Christmas.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
I don't remember who played last Christmas. But just to
show you, like, well just maybe just a little context
for your numbers, cause I get sixty five million, historic
record Chattery Netflix.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
No no, no, no, no, that's the most people to
stream of football teaming.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Yeah, for the most people to watch the football game,
which is what the we're doing, regardless whether it's on
Netflix or CBS or Fox. But he just shows to
show you twenty five million people less watch this than
watch last.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
Christmas and if they and remember NBA is going to
streaming next year. I don't know how smart that is. Well,
I think I don't know how smart that is. Ultimately,
when you're looking at all these numbers are funny money anyway.
So coming up next, h VJA has a problem with
NFL players shutting it down.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
We'll dive into that why because he's hurt getting to that.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
Coming up next, Martin wiz Vija Howski Fox Sports Radio
and for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsportsradio dot
com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to listen live.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
Martin Wise video comes to you a lot from Hetiret
dot com Studios.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Filling in here for Jason Smith and his best friend
Mike Harmon.
Speaker 6 (37:56):
On.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Nearing the end of the Christmas season here December twenty seventh,
about to turn the clock in calendar to December twenty
eighth on the East coast, still nine o'clock Friday night.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
On the West coast, VJ Ceedee.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Lamb was shut down by the Dallas Cowboys, this most
recent for the last two three games of the season
because of a shoulder injury. And I'm pretty sure this
is what maybe spawned your disdain for this topic.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
Absolutely it did, man, because I'm kind of I'm kind
of tired of it, man, just like I'm tired of
this damn song that was cute Mary.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
But no, I am man.
Speaker 6 (38:33):
I just I.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
Definitely don't like I can't focus.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
I can't focus.
Speaker 5 (38:44):
I don't like when NFL players like sit out towards
the end of the season.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
I just feel like, if you're being paid to play,
you play.
Speaker 5 (38:54):
I don't care about you being banged up or this
is the game, this is what it is. You're healthy
enough to go, you're healthy enough to play, you're healthy
enough to suit up. I guarantee you gonna go to
the club, the players. If you're getting paid, then you
(39:18):
could play. I don't care if you're out of you
because if everybody did that. Then the Jaguars would tell
all their players to go home. The Giants would tell
all their players to go home. The Panthers would tell
all their players to go home. If you could play
play plus CD, you the big dog. You're the number
one guy there right now, and you got paid, so
(39:39):
you gotta suit up and played.
Speaker 6 (39:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (39:41):
I saw this story and I was like, whoa hold up?
Shutting them down? Okay, they gotta eliminate its two games left. Bro,
you know, there's no more incentives as far as like
your yards or your touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (39:50):
You want to go easy.
Speaker 5 (39:54):
I'm trying to be professional and fight through this. No
go ahead, And I got three people in this studio
right now that is just pouring on America. If you
don't know, I'm the only person in America who can't
stand this Christmas song Kerry, because it's dumb. It doesn't
(40:15):
sound good. It's not a really joyful thing. Like she
sounds like she bet the woman is rich. All I
want is you all right, Well, then cut a check
and I'll be there. I mean, nothing for you, nothing
for free. Well, I mean maybe maybe right would pay.
But the point is the fact of the matter is
she's saying, I don't get me anything.
Speaker 4 (40:34):
I have everything. All I need is your love.
Speaker 5 (40:36):
I don't believe her, that's the point she's lying. I
don't believe her. I don't believe believer I don't.
Speaker 4 (40:42):
I don't believe.
Speaker 5 (40:45):
So give up everything and then if you if all
you want is me, get rid of your mansion, get
rid of your cars, get rid of your diamonds, get
ready of your fur, get rid.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
Of all no, get rid of no, because all you
want is me, get rid of all yourself. What she
said all she wanted for Christmas with you? Not all
she wanted in life was I doubt any man that
it's ever dated or didn't get her nothing for Christmas?
And she was okay with it. Well, honey, I'm sitting
right here.
Speaker 5 (41:09):
The song gets played in the mall and in the
studio to irritate sports talk radio host all the time,
you made a song that said all you want is me?
Here I am, I guarantee. She's looking at him like, yeah,
that's a song. Where's my diamonds? Where's my hair? I
can't stand that song.
Speaker 4 (41:23):
I can't. It just sounds like DJ.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
He had a plan one Christmas and a young girl
broke his heart and this is a result. Atomic dogs
and NFL picks. Coming up next, Martin to VJ Fox
Sports Radio,
