Speaker 3 (00:50):
Hey, why did the Lakers seem to know how to
handle Trey Young? Uh?

Speaker 1 (00:54):
You know, you know. Look the Knicks di did one
like nine in a row. Okay, everything is fine, Everything
is fine in this game ain't over yet, all right,
Just quit with your negativity.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
You lost tonight. Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Okay, okay, you want to do this, jerk, you want
to do this. Let's do this right, Hey, all my
teams stink. Yes, I just have to go and lash
out and everybody else. Yeah, right now, Yes, Lakers lead
the Hawks. Big marquee game in the NBA right now.
Seventy nine seventy three. JJ Reddick, who I believe every
single time I see the Lakers make a basket, he

(01:27):
flips off Charles Barkley. They cut to the sideline and
sometimes it's a double bird. Sometimes it's really creative. Yeah,
he is really into this whole. Hey, it's a big
night for the Lakers. They they have made a big look.
They made a big move before the new year by
moving on from D'Angelo Russ when they realize it just

(01:49):
wasn't going to work. And they've played pretty well and
to the point where they're not playing that great tonight
and they still have a six point lead midway through
the third quarter. Lebron's not had an incredibly great night.
He's shooting well, but this is not an amazing night.
But the clip the Lakers maybe I want to, you know,
very cautiously, very very tepidly, may have figured a couple

(02:13):
of things out here over the course of the last
couple of weeks. I give him credit for moving on
from D'Angelo Russell because they realized, okay, they got what
they were gonna get. This was just who he was.
So maybe now things are gonna be a little bit
different with uh, you know, with A with a with
a new mix of players and you know, Finny Smith.
Maybe we'll get going points tonight. But the Lakers so far, okay,

(02:33):
the changes and everything else, they've been doing what they
need to do. They've not been afraid to try new things.
They've they've been okay with experimenting on the fly. And
I gotta say, you know, Charles Barkley can hate on
JJ Reddick all he wants, like an, I told you, look,
JJ Reddick is unqualified for this job. But so far
I can't really argue with the results and the effort
by the Lakers. And by say effort, I mean the

(02:55):
effort you see on the court and the effort to
try to figure out their issues and to them, this
has not been let's just throw the guys together and
let it bake. No, this has been, hey, let's see
what we have. This isn't working. We're gonna make a
move before the new year begins. We're not gonna wait
for D'angela Russell the trade deadline and hear Rob Polinka say, oh,
I can't make it. There's nothing I could do that. No, no, no,

(03:15):
They've been pretty good at trying to figure things out
over the course of the first couple months of the season.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Yeah, and as we look at it just and it's
not I'm not genuflecting anywhere near the Lakers, you know,
banners and gravitas and what they mean to a lot
of people in the city and certainly in our industry.
But to navigate as they've done thus far through the
Western Conference, which has three bottom featers in Portland, Utah,

(03:41):
and New Orleans, New Orleans, dealing with all sorts of injuries.
They did get the big win tonight, but you look
at the conference as a whole, it's it's pretty the muddled,
mired middle, I guess, is what you'd call it. With
the six or seven teams that look a lot alike. Now,
it's questionable how deep that rotation gets because Lebron and

(04:03):
ad aren't going to be able to give you the
minutes that they did through the first two plus months
of the season. That's the only thing that concerns me.
Is when these guys are playing thirty five to forty
most nights to try to eke out a win, which
puts them just a couple of games over five hundred. Yeah,
that's potentially problematic on the back half of things, given
how deep they went into the season both last year.

(04:24):
But for now, yeah, it works in JJ reddick because
they are above the fold, right above the six seed
right now. He can do a little bit of crowing
because you got to get it out now before things
turn on you.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
All right, So theres We'll have more on this game
coming up again. Lakers with an eight point lead midway
through the third quarter. Meanwhile, two big NBA stories tonight.
One was the game of the night and it did
not go the way of the Knicks. The Oklahoma City
Thunder win again. They've won forty seven games in a row.
They're now twenty nine to five. This is a game

(04:59):
where the Knicks ha them. They were playing well, and
then the fourth quarter came and look, I'm not as
concerned about the Knicks losing this game because sometimes look,
the offense got different. They was different in the fourth quarter.
It was more stagnant. They got away from what they
tried to do in the first three quarters, and it happens, right,
it happened. They got outscored thirty seven to nineteen because
they again it just wasn't wasn't what the Knicks had

(05:20):
been doing. Games like this happened, right. I'm okay with that. Right.
The Thunder a great team, and you see that they're
at the top of the Western Conference for a reason,
And I'm okay with that. I get that. But the
thing that I keep coming back to is what I've
talked about for the last two months. Nick starters tonight
forty one, forty three, forty two, forty and forty four minutes.

(05:44):
It's like a college team. It's like watching Jim Beyheim
who only played two guys off the bench because well,
I have to. This guy's gonna collapse if I don't
give them a minute of rest. Like the Knicks got
thirty total minutes from their bench night. They played eight guys.
And I know that, you know, Miles mcba is hurt.
I know you're waiting for Mitchell Robinson to come back,
But man, you gotta give these guys minutes. Look, you're

(06:05):
twenty four and eleven. You just won nine in a row.
I mean, unless they're all gonna go in mass over
all Star weekend and go to Germany and all get
new blood like Kobe Bryant did, and then we're gonna
fly back up. Hey, I feel great. I feel like
I'm ten years younger. Unless that happens. I mean, come on,
the Knicks aren't gonna be able to walk by the
time spring you get. I mean, come on, yeah, I's

(06:26):
got to Germany and getting you know you can play
forty minutes. I'm sending you to Germany over the break
to get new blood. Oh great, Yeah, that's how it's
gonna work for the holidays. Thibodeau gave them all hyper
bearer chambers.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
I mean, I mean, I don't every one of them.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
I don't like I feel like I feel like the
Knicks are like you know, like like you and I.
When we look at our schedule and say, oh, man,
only three weeks till Christmas vacation, right, we're off forby
the only this vibe like the Knicks. After we going, Hey,
only four more weeks until start break weekend, we get
five days off. Man, only, let's just keep cross the

(07:00):
x Is off the calendar. I need some dime of sin.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
No, that's just it. Everybody needs a little time away
to steal from the great song. But you know, you
take a couple of days and recharged. Fortunately for the
NBA players, the All Star break has been lengthened. That's
one thing they've been able to get done. And let's
face it, a lot of the guys won't be participating
in any of the activities unless they're showing up at

(07:23):
parties and and anything from their sponsors and agencies and such.
But yeah, it's it's a difficult problem. It's a long season, man,
there's a reason for all these years. You know, folks
have argued about when you should start it, should you
cut games, whatever else, so to go forty minutes a night.

(07:44):
And as much as folks can argue the hey, they're
they're young, they're athletes, are in the prime, they're getting
paid all this money, it's like the body can only
take so much. The body eventually breaks down. And when
you add three months of playoffs to it, because that's
the other part of all this equation is it's a

(08:05):
long slog to the second season and you're expecting to win,
right if you're the Knicks, you came in with the
expectations that you're running back deep into the playoffs. So
to only have the ability to trot three guys off
the bench sparingly is really a difficult run. And eventually
it comes back on TIBs like this has happened in

(08:27):
all his other stops. Eventually, the there's not the full
on revolt, but injuries and issues. I mean, you saw
it last year. Hey, you guys had nobody left. You're
ready to go back and see if Oakley actually stole
his way into the building.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
We finished, We finished game seven in the place with
six with three guys on the court. I mean, come on, man,
I mean that's it's like Gene Hackman, hooteris my team
is on the court, coach, you only have four? My
team is on the court.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Okay, this is what it's untenable animals. So again, that's
that's the moment can be where the game is Jason
as a whole, right, going back to the Reddick and
Barkley and slap fights and all of those narratives that
we've had going and yes there are some issues with
the game overall, Well, you can't come bound that by
only having six guys available to play for you.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Oh, I know, because that's the only concern because the
Knicks are great. They're a terrific team, and you look
how good they are. But man, I'll tell you what
they're not. I mean, they're not going to be able
to walk by the time the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
That's starting. Five is fantastic. You got fourteen minutes from Shannon.
You only got five points off your bench tonight. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
And here's the thing. When they played pain and Shammit
together is when they lost, it's like, you can't just
both of them. You got come on, come on, you
can't just play those guys on the back court and
not have brunts and art come on. So again, just
something to remember that it would actually forty minutes a game. Boy,
I'll tell you.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Once again, twenty having this giant run right, twenty nine
and five, No chet.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
The other thing is this, and the other point is
this from tonight. And there's a reason why every night
when he plays, he's one of the biggest trending topics
in sports. He gives you highlights that just make you gape. Tonight,
the Spurs beat the Nuggets. They went on the road
and beat the Nuggets one thirteen to one. Ten a
huge win. This is kind of one of those season
defining Hey, we may take off from here wins. Wemby

(10:23):
goes tonight for thirty five eighteen and four assists and
two blocks. He gets into it with Russell Westbrook a
couple of times. But you watch Wenby. There was one play,
one sequence where he had hit a couple of threes
from the Bleeping logo, and when he pulled up, like
the third time down the court, the Nuggets ran three

(10:44):
guys at him, and they all look like they're running
a bunch of guys who were five to five, right,
because you know, Wemby's so tall, and all Wenby does
is stand up and throw an easy pass underneath for
a layup, and it's like, how do you stop the guy?
His numbers? Let's go November, December, January. Okay, in the
month of November, which is not that many games, Wemby
average in November eighteen ten three assists and three blocks. Okay,

(11:09):
so eighteen ten, three and three. In December he averaged
twenty five a game, ten rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
So from eighteen ten three and three to twenty five ten,
three and three. Now in January so far. I know
it's only been a few days, but twenty eight ten rebounds,
five assists, and four blocks, you can see the progression

(11:32):
by Wemby. And I'm gonna be a little bit off
on the Bowl prediction I made the end of last year.
I said, by the middle of this NBA season, Wemby's
gonna be viewed as the best player in the game,
and there's not even gonna be a debate. We're not
gonna say Luca, We're not gonna say Jokic. We're not
gonna be. But by the end of the season, you
see the arc that he is on, you see the
way the Spurs have become contenders and how much they

(11:53):
rely on him every single night. By the end of
the year, it's gonna be It's not even gonna be
a discussion. It's the Wemby era, and he's gonna be
viewed as the best player in the game and everybody
else that that's a wanna be great player. It's not
gonna be not gonna be Shy Gilders Alexander, not gonna
be Joel Embiid. If he gets back on the court
and gets in shape at some point, none of these guys,

(12:14):
it's gonna be how can you even say, it's not
gonna be honest, It's not gonna be Anthony Edwards. It's
gonna be you can't make an argument for anybody else
but Wemby. By the end of the year, that's gonna
be the prevailing opinion. And it's gonna kind of be like, hey,
Michael was the best when he when he ascended, and
there was nobody close. Lebron was the best when he ascended.
There was nobody close. And now it's gonna be Wemby

(12:35):
by the end of the year. That's not even gonna
be a debate anymore.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Well, that's the thing that's been kind of laughable is
the here's the list of the old guys, like they're
the end of the you know, Oscar speeches, and you know,
here's a here's a montage of what great moments we
had from Steph Curry the one. They're not going anywhere,
all of them at once, and even Lebron I could
play five to seven years, okay, but the kids are okay, Right,

(13:02):
Wemby coming and doing what he's doing, four blocks a game,
all the rebounds, the fact that he can hit shots,
shooting about thirty six percent from three point range. Giannis
isn't that old, right, He's been around a minute, but
he's just entering his thirties. You talk about Edwards and
Tatum and Jalen Brown. The game's doing okay, and when

(13:24):
min Yama will lead them all and you'll be able
to watch him as the pied piper because he's three
heads taller than even the rest of them. But all
that to say, it is really amazing to watch him
go to work. You know, some eretis clap back on
on Barkley and where the game is is talking about

(13:45):
where we get some points in the paint because of
the three point shot, and you can see some of that,
some bad misses, but also you're collapsing on guys because
everybody can at least attempt to shoot it right. Rarely
do you have the guy that steps out outside and
and like has the Ben Simmons, Hey, I'm not shooting
all right, I'm not gonna do this. H When bin

(14:06):
Yama at seven to six or seven to seven or
however we're measuring him at this point, he's got no
problem pulling up, you know, five to seven feet beyond
the arc, which means you've got to go and at
least run at him. So if he decides to pass,
you've got a nice cutting lane. So some of that
can get us back to, you know, the base elements
of you know, basketball and dumping the ball down low

(14:30):
and re establishing a little bit of post game. But yeah,
it's gonna be hard to make an argument because on
both ends of the court, he adjusts things so much
that I have to account for him.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
I'm gonna ask you this, you talk about threes, I'll
say this. The top fifteen scorers in the NBA right
points per game, right go from number one to number fifteen.
Giannis is number one to thirty two a game. Number
fifteen is Jalen Brown at twenty four a game. Wemby's
number seven score with the over twenty five. How many

(15:03):
of the top fifteen scorers top fifteen scorers are making
more three pointers per game than Wemby? How many do
you think are making more threes per game than Wemby?

Speaker 3 (15:15):
Let's see he I'm gonna say probably what half three three?
Okay Tatum's making for a game, Damian Lillard is making
three point four a game, and Anthony Edwards is making
for a game. Then it's Wemby with three point three
threes made per game, right, Like Lillard is just ahead

(15:35):
of three made per game over Wemby, Right, I mean,
that's how much this guy's game is all over the court.
And just watching that play where Wemby's hitting the threes
from the logo, like, I mean, like Lillard made this
famous that Wemby's like, oh yea, yeah, I got this.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
Yeah, I got it. I'm good. Oh and you want
to rush guys at me, So I'm not taking a three.
It doesn't matter. Why are you rushing guys at me.
I'm taller than everyone. They're not gonna get it my way.
You should stay back so I don't pass it to somebody.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
But that's the thing, how he just passes over the
top of you, I mean get And they got thirty
one off the night from two of their their stars.
When you look at what Champagne and Champani and Keldon
Johnson who used to be a top flight starter for
them now coming off the bench giving you fifteen to
eighteen to night. Yeah, you've got a team that's starting

(16:27):
to build. On the other side of the Nuggets, we
talk about the Lakers, making sure and the Knicks and
making sure you need to hammer out your rotation. They
need to find some minutes from guys beyond their starting
five as well as they go forward. But yeah, when
and Yama Night in, night Out. It's must see TV,
even if it's only on a highlight reel and you're

(16:47):
not watching a game.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon Live from the tierrack dot Com studios.
Lakers continue to lead the Hawks ninety eight eighty six,
ten and a half to go in the fourth quarter.
We'll have more NBA on the way. Meanwhile, Sacramento gonna
pull off this big win over Memphis, an eight point

(18:40):
lead right now with about a minute left to go
in the fourth quarter. It has been a huge night
from a leak month thirty one points, it's got six
to three so far as Sacramento looking at cool off
the Grizzlies. Now couple of big games this weekend in
the NFL. We get to Week eighteen, and games are
big for different reasons. When we get to this this part.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
A lot of incentives, a lot of money. Geno Smith
can earn six million dollars six million.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Well, it's gonna it's gonna tell you how much the
the Seahawks believe in Gino Smith, depending how long he
plays in this games win and uh yeah some touchdowns.
Is Gino Smith our guy for next year? Why was
Gino Smith polled in the middle of the first quarter?

Speaker 3 (19:21):
I don't understand, ah that man his money.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Let's uh, let's do individual and then team first. Because
the individual game that everybody would love to see would
tune in is if Saquon Barkley was playing final game
of the season, the Eagles and the Giants. The Eagles
are playing for nothing, but Saquon Barkley sitting out when
needs one hundred and one yards to break the all
time rushing record in the NFL, Eric Dickerson's record of

(19:48):
twenty one and five yards. And there's been a lot
of talk about this this week, and you know, I
Nick Sirianni went to the wall making sure everybody knew.
You know, I'm talking to everybody about this. I don't
want you to think it's my decision because whatever I
decide is going to be wrong because I'm the head
coach of the Eagles, so whatever I decide, so I
want to make sure that everybody's in on this, right. Yeah,

(20:08):
Howie Roseman's in on it, Lourie's in on it, Ron
Jaworski is in on it, Wilbert Montgomery is in on everybody,
Randall Cunningham, everybody's in on this decision. So don't blame
me if you don't like it. And Barkley's not playing.
He's gonna sit out. He says, he's a piece with it.
And I'll be honest with you, we haven't spent a
lot of time on this this week because it's fine.

(20:28):
He wouldn't be the real record holder anyway, because he
needed an extra game to do it. Right. It's just
like Roger Maris breaking Babe Ruth's record. Because you got
to do it in under one hundred and fifty four games.
They'll give me an asterisk that's going to be that
stick to it all the way through.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
Right.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
It's why Mark McGuire you need to get to his
mark and break it by you get to sixty one.
Before you get to one hundred and fifty four games,
Barkley would not be viewed as the all time rushing
leader because there's seventeen games now and records mean less
than they do years ago, simply because we're adding more
to the regular season everywhere. It's okay, well this mark

(21:03):
and this mark here, it doesn't mean as much if Barkley,
bro Barkley ran fro hundred and thirty yards. Well look
at this twenty one hundred and seventy five yards. Yeah,
you did a whole extra game, right, I mean, it
really ends that. It ends that discussion right there. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
I don't know that it does though. And yeah, we
got more balance and definition and he's got thirty four
or fewer carries than Dickerson.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
Did, doesn't matter. He played a whole extra game. I mean,
the flow of the game is not you know, is
something that, hey, okay, if we're winning this game, we're
doing this, we need you to run the ball more.
We relying on you a little bit more. When you
have a whole extra game, you're talking about an average
of twenty more carries and one hundred extra yards, you're
gonna get like it's it's I can't see it. I

(21:45):
can't see where people say, hey, he's the real all
time rushing leaguer. He would know it was just coming
with controversy. And I think that's part of why Barkley
is okay with it, because he knows that that just
gonna be something that's gonna be divisive and people are
gonna hate me for it, and I don't need that.
If he could have done it in sixteen games, that's different.
That's okay. In sixteen games, you beat Dickerson's record. And oh,

(22:06):
by the way, I love the fact that Dickerson's I said,
I don't want to know.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
I gotta take that our guy making some noise again,
no question about it.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
I mean, I think you the first thing you would
say is Saquon Barkley all time NFL rushing leader. And
the first thing somebody would say is, yeah, but it
took him seventeen games. It took them extra games, and
that's not the same. You just can't compare records that
are set when when more games are played. You can't
compare somebody who gets a certain number of hits in
one hundred and sixty two game season ver one hundred
and fifty four game season. So it's just I see

(22:35):
this as being a controversy that maybe Barkley walked away from,
and it's really not that big a deal that he's
not playing, that he's not going to potentially quote break
Dickerson's record.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
Yeah, I just look at it from the if you
have the opportunity, the record is there and we're always
going to have it. I like that you brought up
the baseball stat because we can go into different rounds
of playoffs. Right the Dolphin's the last undefeated team at
seventeen and oh Patriots matched that and moved on and
eventually would lose in the Super Bowl. But you know,

(23:07):
there's more games, more rounds of playoffs as you go through. Likewise,
you know, when we talk about Bowl season, you know
was interesting that we now include the bowl stats or
playoff stats or out depending on your conference, towards your
season total. Whereas over there you got Barry Sanders waving

(23:29):
at you know, Ashton genty of all of it because
his two hundred and twenty two in his bowl game
don't count. So, you know, it's always been an apples
to oranges thing along the way. I think it was
curious that you had a lot of the Philadelphia teammates
wanted it. The offensive lineman wanted it. Maybe they got

(23:50):
some bonuses, you know, in terms of presence they were
gonna get from Saquan if they got there. Saquan's dad going, yeah,
it'd be cool to have the surname, have it, you
understand the other And it's what's really been funny is
watching folks go blue in the face, the same folks
who have always been arguing about load management and how
much it's a terrible thing. Uh Yet it's proper that

(24:13):
Saquon sits this one out because you're playing for a
Super Bowl. That's always been you know, kind of a
fun one the last couple of weeks watching it come
to this end. In the end, for me, as long
as Saquan's okay with it and has peace with it.
That's all that really matters. And yes, I'm happy that
our friend Eric Dickerson still has the red.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Yeah, you wouldn't talk to us. Hey, it was rooting
for Saquent Hello, hey ed do all right? Why'd you
hang up on me? Man? Why do you hang up? Now?
The game of the week. And yes, we'll get to
the playoff aspect of it, because you know, there's a
big playoff berth up for bids in both the AFC
and the NFC. But the game of the week. It's
why they're saving it till the end, the Lions and
the Vikings. What's at stake here? Oh, nothing other than

(24:55):
home field throughout the playoffs and a bye or you're
coming in as a number five team, you're playing on
the road. I gotta admit I didn't see Minnesota winning
this way. I didn't see Sam Darnold playing as well
as he had the second half of the season. But
here we are. This game is gonna be so much fun.
It's gonna be a shootout. And I'll tell you what.

(25:16):
Detroit's gonna win. Their entire season is on the line
with being the number one seed, the number five seed.
They have much more at stake than the Vikings. Who hey,
this was a found money season. They lost their quarterback
of the future in the preseason. There's gonna be what
kind of year we're gonna have with Sam Darnald. Maybe
could be five hundred instead, whoa look at us? Look

(25:37):
how good we are? Man? Oh my goodness. Yeah. There's
much more pressure on the Lions to win, and the
Lions do really well in pressure games. More importantly, their
offense is still humming even without David Montgomery. It's even
more explosive because Jamier Gibbs is getting more carries. They did,
they put they put out a halfway effort last week,
and they still boat race San Francisco on offense. Right,

(25:59):
they still did whatever they wanted to do. This game
is gonna be about turnovers. Both offenses are gonna play
well because look, Detroit's defense still really not an Achilles heel,
but needs to really have a better grasp of of
of stopping the other team as we get closer into
the playoffs, because they have there There's been times this
year where a boy, the Lions defense is not what

(26:19):
it should be. But this is gonna be about turnovers
because both teams are gonna need him to win a
ton of points. And I have much more confidence that
the Lions will get turnovers from Sam Darnold than the
Vikings will get turnovers from Jared Goff. Goff has too
many people to get the football too. He's got too
many options. Donald Still, if you take away his first option,
we'll press and throw the football when he shouldn't, and

(26:42):
it's gonna be He'll have a big game, but it'll
be one of those three touchdown, two interception games, and
that's gonna be enough. Give me the Lions thirty eight
to thirty four.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Look at you, we're sailing past the over under, which
we talked to Todd Ferman last night. He saw it
as high as fifty eight and a half. That was
just the first half over under could be. And that's
the thing for the Lions defensively. You know, now we
get into the reasons of or excuses as to how
things come to play. Campbelling may come into effect, but

(27:11):
I think Flora still has one extra wrinkle to get
this thing done, and the Detroit defense can't give them enough.
Sam Sam Sam thirty seven, thirty one.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
You're just saying that to be anti Detroit, because you know,
I'm the patron saint of Detroit right now.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
I just figured it would double down on you know,
your your wife being really mad, so you really have
to kiss ass for a while here between the college
football playoffs and this situation and dealing with the extended family.
I want Smith on his best behavior for the first
six weeks, and this would help do it.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
I mean, look, it would It certainly would be something,
and it would be the the cherry on top of
the Sunday, it would be whatever whatever cliche you want
to put out there for Donald and the Viking. I just,
are you really gonna outscore Detroit? You're really gonna outscore them?
Detroit playing at home, but I know they've lost their
two games at all.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
But they still have a defense that can get after it.
Like that's the thing, and that's the game within the game, right.
The Flores and Johnson chatter that we've heard over the
course of the week, because you'd had Johnson dismissed when
Flores was still a headman back in the day, So
you know, does he have one of these you know,
a curb stomp next move right instead of the stumble

(28:29):
bomb and all these other things that have been trumped
up to make fun of the Bears along the way.
Even though people keep wanting to connect Johnson that job,
Why would Johnson take that job? I like the personnel
potential there, but you have to deal with ownership and management.
Do you really want to do that? No, you don't
want to do that. But all that to say, what's
the Wrinkley's got of the play call that they can

(28:50):
yuck it up on the sideline at Brian Flores's expense.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
I don't know. They have not scored less than twenty
three points in a game since Week three, Okay, I
mean it's forty two, forty seven, thirty one, fifty two,
twenty six, fifty two, twenty four, thirty four, forty eight,
thirty four.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
And that impresses the posters at the collegiate level. Yeah, absolutely, But.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
Dude, come on, that's a whole season's worth of no
matter what defense you put out there, including oh, by
the way, that the Minnesota Vikings defense that they put
thirty one on in Minnesota earlier this year. I mean,
I mean, all of a sudden, Brian Flores has figured
it out. Oh no, that's why we're still in the thirties.
You know, it's it takes one possession. If it's one

(29:37):
of those things where hey, Minnesota was able to sneak
four more defenders on the field. Nobody knew that I
would get that. Okay, maybe that's again, but they're just
still just discounting the fact that Detroit's got to figure
out a defensive game plan in all of this, because
they still no question, but Detroit watching Broc pretty and
before he got hurt, they were running up and down

(29:57):
with nobody's Yeah, but look at the but whose offense
is better? Who's a better Detroit? It's not close. Detroit
has one hundred more points this year than Minnesota. Sure
Detroit's this is.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
Where the defense rises up and Ragnar leads them out.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
You see, you're only saying it. It's so redict. You're
only saying it because you want to cause strife in
my house. It's the only reason.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
I want chaos in general. Because Detroit suddenly falling to
a five seed, we get all the crying about, oh,
it's not fair, and look out good they were No, no, no,
I want chaos in between the white lines. Again. My
vote would be that there's a tie, a scoreless tie
because they're both in the same division as the Bears.

(30:42):
But you know, when it comes down to it, I
think it's absolutely fascinating. And as much as I hate
the way they do the division stuff at the back
end of the season, we're seeing it with you know,
the Steelers and look at all AFC North. Saturday is
an odd occurrence, no question about it. But the fact
that you know, you had a backloaded schedule and then

(31:05):
you have the bookends for some of these squads. Hey,
we saw him in week one and now we see
him again in week eighteen. You know when we talk
about say the Chargers and the Raiders and things of
that nature, but yes, we do get the gift of
Vikings Lions on Sunday night, Football.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Time Now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports from special delivery Steve to Sager who
told everybody draft Sam darnaland fantasy it won't be.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
Sorry Sam, Sam, Sam, here he is now with what's trending.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
No, I won without him.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
I don't think anyone's like margin of victory there Smith,
that's correct. You missed it last week points missing the
pat two of them he missed too. He missed two
of them. Steve won the league well.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
There are multiple reports that Kawhi Leonard of the Clippers
could make his season debut tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
As soon as tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
LA Time says the team is hopeful Leonard will play
Saturday against the Hawks and the they will assess him

get Let's just try it first and see if we
like it. Just order the straight.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
Fire roasted red pepper.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
No, no, get the get the straight. Well, if we
like that flavor, we can order other ones. But let's
try like heavy duty.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
How about a gallon.

Speaker 1 (35:49):
Oh my goodness, gall No, we're gonna dump.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
No, No, just got weird really fast. Did you take
it there?

Speaker 1 (35:58):
Dude? Why can't you just go to the stock must
have been the most worth guy in the world going
to the store to buy food for home. Hey, can
I get this? Can I get this?

Speaker 3 (36:06):
I'm in no time?

Speaker 1 (36:08):
It must be crazy. But you want positivity, I will
point you to tonight's serve pro first responderbull between North
Texas and Texas State the Fighting Armadillos. This game tonight
was won by Texas State thirty to twenty eight. No,

(36:28):
Kathy Island did not kick a field goal to win this.
They won thirty to twenty eight, overcoming a huge night
by Drew Mestmaker, quarterback of North Texas.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Mess Maker.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
He's a walk on great story. Right, it gets to play.
This is because their previous starting quarterback transfer to Virginia. Right,
Chandler Morris went to Virginia. So now here's Drew Mestmaker. Okay,
great ums Maker is a kid that hadn't started a
game at quarterback since his freshman year of high school.

(37:11):
That six out of Austin, Texas hadn't started a game
at quarterback since his freshman year of high school, where
he later started at safety and was an all district punter.
This is a kid in college who hadn't started a
game in high school since his freshman year of high school.
What did you do tonight? Twenty six out of forty

(37:33):
one for three hundred and ninety three yards and two touchdowns.
He also ran for a seventy yard touchdown. He racked
up four hundred and forty eight yards of offense, and
he hadn't started a game since he was a freshman
in high school. I mean, I mean, yes, the future
seems bright because all of a sudden you found a guy,

(37:55):
right because he's he's only a freshman. Yeah, he's a senior.
Saying about this is a r I want to know,
how does this dude? How was he even on the
depth chart? He hadn't started a game of quarterback? Yeah,
but this is yeah, come on, man, I mean I
get to this.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
And there's a lot of colleges.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
Dude, I know, but come on, man, you find somebody
in Texas played quarterback at least. I don't know how
you're even on the depth chart or how you're the
second guy in the depth chart. Hey, I started quarterback left,
you're it. Man hasn't started a game in four years,
since he was since he was thirteen years old, he
hadn't started the game. But here he is, and he

(38:33):
goes for four hundred and fifty totally yards.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Do you want me to go back through the backups
that are starting in the National Football the last game
he started the NFL.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
Four years ago?

Speaker 3 (38:43):
Goodness, five years ago? Go on, Mean Green, you're also
burying the lead. The second and third leading rushers are
people named Mackenzie and Keifer. There's a Keifer running around
for the Mean Green come on now, and a Wyot
and a Miles Sure, come on? That is that is
a running back room I want to hang out with.

(39:04):
On the other side from Texas State, you got a
guy named Lincoln. A Torrents, yeah right, spelled like Torrents
where I live? Uh, A Jaden and to Jordan and
a Dion. Come on now, let's go. It's an all
name world. I'm loving this.

Speaker 1 (39:20):
I can't. I can't believe you. You want to you
want to just talk about names, And here's a kid
that had to start at a game in four years Like yeah,
but look at the names on these people.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
But I thought we we addressed that there's a lot
of colleges and he's six four and.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
You couldn't answer the quo.

Speaker 3 (39:35):
He answered the question, brought it in.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
How is he even on the depth chart? I don't understand.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
I gave you his measurement six four ten, he's on
the depth chart. The other guy left, Hey, what do
we got break glass in case of emergency?

Speaker 1 (39:50):
It's like it, that's like in youth sports. Hey he's big,
put him at quarterback, let him throw the football. You're
ever play quarterback or forre no part what you're playing today?
Go ahead, suit up.

Speaker 3 (39:58):
I don't know who was on his high school roster,
That's what I want to know. And where's that guy
playing now? Quinn Ewers was ahead of him the entire time.

Speaker 1 (40:05):
That's what it was. Uh, Exit, how about it.

Speaker 3 (40:08):
We're gonna research that part of it.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
Exit Swollen Dome. Coming up next, we'll tell you who's
taking the final playoff spots in the AFC and NFC
this weekend. Jason and Mike. This is Fox Sports Radio.
