You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight to Jason Smith Show

(00:51):
thoughts are clearly with everybody fighting and trying to escape
the wildfires in Los Angeles, in and around the city,
hoping for good luck. As we've talked talked about throughout
the night tonight, We'll continue to monitor this and anytime
we get good news, we'll bring it to you. But
our business here at Fox Sports Radio is sports, and
we've talked a lot about the fire tonight and want
to make sure the tay we continue on and do

(01:13):
our thing, and that's when bad stuff happens, and you
want to tune to us and go take my mind
off it. So sometimes we laugh at the Bears, or
we laugh at you know, the after Turn, or we
laugh at the black Hawks, we laugh at the White Sox.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Syracuse, the Nicks, Stavans.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
But uh, look the backdrop tonight. There was a really
big NBA game tonight felt like an NBA Finals game
between the Calves and the Oklahoma City thunder Right, we
got more NFL coming up in a couple minutes, but
it felt like it felt like it could have been
one of those NBA Finals type preview games because the
thunder have had a phenomenal season, the Calves have had
a phenomenal season, and the Cavaliers win this game.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Wait, I gotta stop you.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Why what's the matter?

Speaker 4 (01:56):
We don't we have to sound an alarm or alert
somebody if we're gonna talk positively about an NFL or
NBA player, team or game.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Is there some kind of ruling media? Now?

Speaker 1 (02:07):
No, no, no, there's no no. We we can still
we can still be a happy positive people.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
On Okay, good, all right, just trying to make sure
you know they still do Is there some board I
have to notify? No, No, I want to speak positively
about their product.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Is that okay?

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, we're all good, We're all good, all right. The
thing about this is that, you know, look, the Thunder
are terrific team, right. We saw the rise of the
Thunder last year and they and they're continuing to play
well this year. And again I know Harmon's gonna say
and no chet and no chat.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
No.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yes, the Thunder a true right it is, but he's
on the comeback trail though. Still the Cavaliers, even though
they are thirty one and four coming in tonight, there
were still a lot of NBA fans. Yeah, but are
they really that good? Thirty one?

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:50):
But are they really that good? Right? Tonight's game should
tell you that the Calves ain't going anywhere, and yes,
they are this good Because there's still a big faction
of the of the NBA fans I don't really know.
Not only did they beat the Thunder tonight, but they
won by seven, which is a pretty good win. They
didn't need a last second victory, a big comeback, and

(03:11):
they won tonight pretty good with Donovan Mitchell having and
I don't know off the top of my head, but
I'm sure he hasn't had a worse game than he
had tonight three out of sixteen from the floor, just
eleven points. So he hit a big shot late, and
that's great. But this is your best player. This is
the guy that is supposed to be scoring twenty eight
points a game, and he was three for sixteen for

(03:33):
eleven points, and the Cavaliers still won this game. They
have the best offense in the NBA, as good as
you see other teams are. The Knicks offense is great,
the Celtics offense is terrific. The Cavaliers have the best
offense in the game. And the fact they can withstand
a really bad night from Donovan Mitchell and still win
this game and not have to worry about pulling it

(03:54):
out at home or or hey, the referees did this,
and they but this should be the last bit of
evidence you need about how good the Cavaliers are and
that they're not going anywhere this season.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
No fantastic run, great balance, seven players in double figures,
shooting fifty what they gave up fifty three percent from
the field actually a higher rate than they scored fifty
two point two, but efficient from the three point arc
fifteen to thirty six, distributing the ball really well. Thirty
six assists on their forty seven makes so all of

(04:28):
that to say, you've got what you needed. And they
work down low Mobley Allen both with monster games combining
for what forty six and twenty one oh and thirteen assists,
because that's the other part, right when you got ball
distribution and it keeps moving, it's not always dependent on
the point guard like Darius Garland did. He had seven

(04:49):
assists on the night for his eighteen points as well,
but keeping it moving, getting some good playoff the bench
thirty two between Max Strus and Ty Jerome who had fifteen.
He's been a nice little fine for them this year
off the bench average ten eleven points a game, so
good balance. And Donovan Mitchell having, as you said, a

(05:11):
struggle night still plus eight. You know, when we go
into those columns kind of like I have to look
at QBR or so, and you know, when folks want
to make an argument, everything else goes out the window.
But his QBR it's like, really, now you're reaching I'll
do it here. I'll give him the plus eight. So
was he was positively impacting the game eleven six and

(05:31):
four and a plus eight on his three for sixteen.
But you're not gonna have many of those days, right.
The ball is gonna find the bottom of the net
more often than not. And if you can get that
kind of rotation going, those kind of minutes and contributions, yeah,
it is a nice little litmus test of where you
are and good ahead of what will be dominated what

(05:52):
the next five days. Playoff, playoff, playoff, playoff, playoff in
the college world old in the NFL worlds. Yeah, it's
a good day for the NBA. It's like we had
a marquee matchup that lived up to the hype. Yeah,
we're not getting another headline until Tuesday. Yeah, okay, so
let's just slip we're lucky and because a bunch of
guys are gonna get hired as NFL coaches and that's

(06:15):
gonna go to hell.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Honest too, Say Lebron had seventy doesn't matter. We have
a college football playoff game on Thursday, got a college
football playoff game Friday, We got two games NFL game Saturday.
We got three on Sunday, We got one on Monday. Yeah,
you may as well not even play. Give the guys
a break. Hey, that'll help the Knicks and Tips. Hey,
give the guys a break. Don't even play. You're not
getting any headlines.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
Don't you send that note over them? Say, nobody's gonna
pay attention anyway.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
But speaking of the NFL, Yes, a big story today.
It's gonna be awesome for brock Party, not so much
of the forty nine ers. The Niners announced that they
are going to sign brock Party to that big long
term contract sooner rather than later. GM John Lynch head
coach Kyle Shanahan both said to end of the season

(07:01):
press conference for the forty nine ers, Yes, this is
an absolute priority. We're in exchange our offers with brox
people very soon. They don't want to go into this
year or the lame duck year. And look for everybody
who said to me a few months ago, well, are
you kidding they're gonna push us another year?

Speaker 3 (07:16):
They can.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
No, you don't do that to your quarterback. You don't
push something a year when you really want a guy
to stay.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
How's that worked out for Dallas?

Speaker 1 (07:24):
It's that so yeah, you don't piss anybody off that
you want to keep around for like, you know, the
next eight to ten years, you just don't do it.
So he's eligible for that contract extension now, and no,
they don't have to do it, but they will do
it now. Now potentially they could do it where it
kicks in in twenty twenty six. And because he's only
counts a million dollars against a salary cap for next year,

(07:46):
if they did that, that crazy way to bring him back.
But he's going to get paid and his money is
going to be somewhere close to fifty million dollars a year.
Dak Prescott makes the most right Now, Clearly brock Perty,
who was been further in the playoffs than Dak Prescott,
is gonna command something close to it. Right, So it
doesn't mean he's gonna get sixty, but he's gonna get

(08:08):
somewhere around, maybe a little bit south of fifty million,
a little bit less than at forty fifty million. That's
gonna be his contract, right, that's what brock Perty is
gonna get. Great news for him, generational wealth, everything you
know from a guy who's mister irrelevant, Yes, que all
the stories about what a great success story is. Never
give up on your dreams. Bad bah baha. Great for him,

(08:28):
awful for the forty nine ers, awful.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Follow your dreams, kids, bab.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
I'd be a great speaker at a at ah a
graduation ceremony. Hey, I just want to let you know,
follow your dreams. Blah blah blah.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
Jason Smith to tell you all about leadership plans.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Yeah, yeah, be good, tea. Whatever the Jets suck, let
me tell you why the Jets sucks so bad. Okay,
now that's sending your seats. You're gonna listen to this. Uh,
it's for the forty nine ers because now the Niners
era is completely over all right. They were able to
build the last three years with their quarterback on not

(09:07):
even a rookie contract. The dude was on a cut.
He wasn't even getting a million dollars a year. And
they were able to spend all kinds of money on
players and give them contract extensions and bring them back
for just this year, for one more year. Heye, Trent Williams,
here's one more year for you. Here's more money for you.
Both say, here's money for you, Debo, here's money for you, Ayuke.
All of these players they were able to give money

(09:30):
to to keep it going, right, This was a golden opportunity. Hey,
the Niners had something, and not many teams have. They
got a quarterback for three plus years who's good, who
they don't have to pay, which means they can go
load up on all the other positions across the team.
And that's awesome, right, But they haven't won. They got
to the Super Bowl, they nearly won, but they didn't.

(09:51):
How are you gonna build a team that's even close
to even the salary cap going up when you have
one player who is going from making a million dollars
a year to nearly fifty million dollars a year. I
don't care how much the salary cap goes up, it's impossible.
And if you couldn't build a team to win it
all when you had a quarterback on a rookie contract,
how are you gonna do that with Brock Purdy?

Speaker 4 (10:12):
Right?

Speaker 1 (10:12):
How you can do that when Brock Purty is getting
that kind of cash?

Speaker 3 (10:14):
You can't.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
This era of the forty nine ers is over right.
They have big players on the team, but you're either
gonna have to cut a bunch of them to save money,
and they're getting older. Look, George Kittle's terrific, but he's
thirty three, right. Trent Williams is gonna have to go,
he's thirty six, right. These guys are getting older. Well, yeah,
they've been great players for a long time. How do
you replace them? You can't. You're not giving me a solution. No,

(10:37):
the solution is you had it for three years. Now
you got to pay your quarterback. Now you have to
figure out how you figure out how you construct the
rest of your team to where you can compete. But
the days of the forty nine ers being this big
Super Bowl threat getting there year after you're a threat
to get there year after year the last five or
so years, that's gone. That era is gone because now

(10:59):
you have to pay a couar back and now there's
so many positions on the team you're not gonna be
able to address with great players like you have because
you're just not gonna have the money. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
I mean, you had eight players making over ten million
dollars a year as currently allocated for the twenty twenty
five salary cap, and now it becomes the restructures stretching
out payments converting to signing bonuses, all of those tricks
of the trade that are well not really tricks or secrets.

(11:28):
We've watched plenty of team including the forty nine ers,
play games with the salary cap.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Once upon a time they didn't have to.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
You want to stay cool, what's that, don't worry about it,
and they'll get paid. That was de Bartelow, and then
we had all sorts of questions about that. But we
look at the wave thing flow for this one. You
mentioned Trent Williams. I hope he comes back. I hope
he's in the right frame of mind and physically is
able to do it. But there's no guarantee there. There's

(11:56):
twenty one plus that maybe comes off the Boks, their
thoughts to he and his family and everything. But you
know you did bring him back. You look at Brandon Ayuk,
who you've committed to. You've got to figure out debo
going forward. You've got to figure out like all of this,
it's a new era for sure, it's a reconstitution. You

(12:17):
dismissed the salary cap thing. I don't think it goes
up thirty million again. The estimate is that it will
be a little bit lower than that, but a good
chunk of what brock Purty is going to get paid
based on whatever that adjustment is to his deal for
twenty twenty five, is that you're going to be able
to absorb some of that from the augmented salary cap

(12:40):
one for one at least for a few dollars more.
And then it's how creative can you get beyond that?
And can you get healthy? Because if you can get healthy,
I still would have fought with this team. Problem is
Christian McCaffrey, how many games to give you? And you
actually got some pretty good play, you know from the
other running backs there. They just couldn't stay healthy either.

(13:00):
So down the stretch, like, who's up, fifth guy? Yeah,
let's go.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Do you even know his name? No, it doesn't matter.
Get out there where I know, it doesn't matter where.
Undo you got anything left?

Speaker 4 (13:12):
He goes, damn it, it's my opportunity because he even
said it. He goes, I'm playing through injuries. I shouldn't
be out on a field, but it's my chance. Man,
who's that guy? Forty four Rathman? Yeah, put him out there,
let him go. Let Tom Rappman go.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
He's sixty and he can still block a little.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Hey, you know what, he'll bite kneecaps.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
You want to talk about a guy that embodied everything
that Dan Campbell wanted at a player that was your
guy back in the day.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Is it? Look if there wasn't If if if there
was a scenario in which I could see a quick
rebuild for the Niners or to rebuild on the fly,
I would say great. But they can't. They're losing too
many And don't forget you. You know, you also don't
have the first round pick that you would have had
at number three overall because Trey Lance didn't work out, right,

(13:58):
you're talking about you were talking about and not that
it was a trade that they didn't have to make.
They moved up and it didn't work out. But you're
still saying that this should have been a franchise player
that they drafted number three overall. This should have been
a guy that is that is a pro bowler for
the next ten years. That's what you're hoping for. You
draft a guy three overall and Trey Lance there's nothing.

(14:18):
It's like they had they had a year where they
had a chance to get a franchise player to add,
whether it's a defensive tackle or an offensive lineman or
a wide recuit, whatever it was.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
But you know what they did. They added rock Party.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Yeah, they so they did. They got lucky. But they
would have added brock Party anyway, right, they would have
added rock Pertty. He was still draft them anyway. But
you're talking about that's a huge when you don't when
you get a zero from a guy taken in the
top three, not even at the end of his rookie contract,
that's a huge hole of film. Man.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
It's funny because they always get so much credit from
the twenty seventeen trade with the Bears, and ultimately they
did it. They did get it right because they did
draft Fred Warner eventually on Day two, so they did
get that the other part of that draft pick. Come on, man,
that was an absolute disastrous alt The cackling and mocking
at the Bears, I was just absurd. But yes, you

(15:09):
did get Fred Warner, one of my favorite players. Oh
and a guy who's set. He's at age twenty nine.
He's actually until brock Purty surpasses him, he's your highest
paid player on the roster. So we'll see if you
can get a full seventeen out of him in twenty
twenty five exit.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
How about a Fresca exit swollen Dome. The Jason Smith

studios where look, today we got a really interesting thing
from Travis kelcey right, and I like this because he

his podcast. You know, brother, come on it if you would,

(17:01):
Travis Kelsey, when.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
You get booed as much as Hogan did on.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Raw, dude, that was oh my goodness. Oh by the way,
did you see that Squid Game two has been the
number one thing on Netflix right since it came out
the end of December. Okay, just got dethroned by that
episode of Raw.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Raw was the Netflix net having Raw and that was
the Net's been the number one program Netflix has on
and has had on in the last month. It's it's
bigger than squid That watching that is bigger than Squid Game.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
There you go there, you go where I mean now
that we're gonna launch our WWE podcast supplement to the show,
It's gonna be great.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
I'll check you into it. By the way, Sure I
could do.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
That's fine, as long as I get to play me
and Gene Oakland and do the interview. Come on if
you would, hey, I mean, if people come in and
just talk and I just put the microphone down and
walk away, You'll have to.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
Grow a mustache or we'll have to get you a
fake mustache to have the video component.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
January fifteenth, that the Globe and San Diego You're ready
for Travis Kelcey and Jason Kelsey's new Heights podcast. Today,
Travis took a little bit of Dolores Umbridge with this
suggestion that potentially the Chiefs threw their game on Sunday

(18:18):
against the Broncos to keep the Bengals out of the playoffs. Now,
remember the scenario was if the Bengals win and the
Dolphins and the Dolphins lose, the Broncos had to win
and beat the Chiefs to make the playoffs or the
Bengals would get in. Now, the Bengals red hot team.
Joe Burrow, He's white hot. He's raised white hot. And

(18:38):
the Bengals have been a team that historically, meaning in
the last three or four years, have given the Chiefs
a lot of trouble. Now, the Chiefs were resting Patrick
Mahomes and arresting all their guys that are down to
third stringers, I think guys have played in the seventies
were playing for them, and they get crunched by the Broncos.
The Broncos make the playoffs and the Bengals go home.
And there's been that bit of a push the last

(19:00):
few days. And ah, the Chiefs didn't want to have
a potential showdown with the Bengals after the first round.
They didn't want them in the playoffs at all. So
here's a team that Denver that's good, but they're kind
of limited, right, They only do so much offensively. The
defense is pretty good, but this is not a team
We're afraid of putting forty five to fifty points on
the board against us in the playoffs. So yeah, we'd

(19:21):
rather the Broncos get in than the Bengals. And maybe
the Chiefs didn't give their great effort to try to
beat the Broncos. Well, Jason Kelcey brings it up with Travis, who,
in between f bombs, tells you that, hey man, I
want to fight whoever's in front of me.

Speaker 5 (19:36):
Take a listen, brother, ps, this is where you play
the Kelsey stuff from earlier. Okay, the secret password to
play the Kelsey stuff is Kelsey. So I say Kelsey
and we play it Kelsey in rewind, I've even given

(19:58):
the password. Mike, you're in the past past, You're in
the password Kelsey Kelsey.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
Now I think you're just begging you. You're getting desperate.

Speaker 5 (20:09):
Let's play the Kelsey sound that we played earlier in
the show. Guys, play the Kelsey sound.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
Yeah, I think we're just gonna have to let that go.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Or at least tell me that you don't have it,
and we're gonna play it in a couple of minutes.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
Guys, where's the Kelsey sound.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
I'm gonna talk about blank this guy and blank that
guy and blank Joe Burrow.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
And all those Shay, we're on the air. Let's play
the Kelsey sound.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Again.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
I know you guys are playing. I know you guys
are playing Fortnite. Let's play the Kelsey sounds because we
kind of got to hear it.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
I think at this point, so you gotta do a
dramatic reenactment.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
I think we got we got to hear it. I
don't know. Okay, let me send. Let me send.

Speaker 4 (21:10):
Alex Tyscher in a text that was going over as
well as Jason Skates.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
Here we go.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Here's the Kelsey sound. There's some people. There's some people
alleging that it was a purposeful letting get your nobody.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
I wanted him.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
I want to.

Speaker 6 (21:32):
I want to slay every dragon one by one, like
Mortal Kombat. I don't even want this to be like
we play the lowest seed. Just give me the best teams.
I'm not in Travis.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
I'm just telling you a.

Speaker 6 (21:42):
F NFC give me Mortal Kombat style. I'll go through
every one of them, just giving them my best effort.
I ain't scared of the single soul man. You didn't
want to see the Bengals in Burrowhead or in Cincinnati,
I'll play him at the Walmart parking lot.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
I don't get it. We can if we can have
our own game in the offseason, we really do. Listen.

Speaker 6 (22:04):
I love competing against the greatest. The Bengals were a
fun ass team to watch. There towards the end of
the season.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
You gotta worry about our offense and falling prices in
the Walmart parking lot. Yeah, but you know you.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
Don't fight dragons in that, do you. Oh, combat was
just fighting, There's no dragons involved.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Well maybe he never really played Mortal Kombat, was looking
for a fun thing. I don't think so. I think
you fought each other and more I did. I didn't
play Mortal Kombat. But let me say, Mortal kom.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
Is it not the one where you can rip out
the guy's spine and show it to him?

Speaker 1 (22:34):
And so no, that was it. That was in Predator,
Mortal Kombat. Dragon Okay, stick my hand down your throat
and it's a dragon symbol, right, I mean, but I
don't know. But apparently the hang on there is a
dragon in Mortal Kombat. Really, Uh yeah, Onaga with Onaga
like I'm Ross and Friends with Unagi Samon's skin roll

(22:58):
u Onaga the Dragon King is part of Mortal Kombat.
So there's only one.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
But he's the Dragon King, but he's not a dragon?
He is or does he turn into a dragon?

Speaker 3 (23:08):
The dragon.

Speaker 4 (23:11):
Or he's like Raye Fines in that Hannibal. Oh, yes,
I am the great dragon.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
You want to slay all the DG but there's only
one dragon, So okay, you're slaying one dragon. Uh. He's
completely lying. He is absolutely lying, and not only that,
he's being a fake tough guy right, because it's easy
to sit here and say, oh, I don't care, I'll
take on all comers out there, when you know that
there is absolutely zero possibility of that happening. There is

(23:40):
no The Bengals are not in the playoffs. There's not
gonna be a team that's to say we can't make it.
We can't field enough guys this weekend, because a couple
of people are out of town, a couple of families
are taking vacation. We can't play in this tournament. No, no, no,
the Bengals. So it's easy to say I'll play anybody
when I guarantee you the Chiefs are all high five
and in doing backflips. The Bengals aren't in the layoffs
because the Bengals, more than any other team in this

(24:03):
era that the Chiefs have been dominant, they give them
trouble more than anybody else. They beat him in Burrowhead
once and then they almost beat him last year. With
the twenty three to twenty Right, this is a Bengals
team that for whatever reason has the Chiefs number, and
no team in the NFL sits back and says, yeah,
we'll play. I want to play a team that's really

(24:25):
prepared to beat us. No, you want to avoid those
teams because that's the way. It's all about matchups. Winning
in the playoffs is about matchups. Moving on in the
NCAA tournament is about matchups. The NBA playoffs is about matchups.
You don't want to play a team that's bad for
you unless you absolutely have to. So it's a load
of crap that you're hearing Travis Kelsey say, oh yeah,
you know, we take on all. No, you wanted nothing

(24:45):
to do with the Bengals, and you're glad they're not
in because a team that's beating you at home once
can easily do it again, especially a team that's so
hot like the Bengals and their offense is right, you
don't want any part of that. So this whole fake
tough guy thigued play anywhere. Yeah, it'd be a lot
different if there was actually a possibility that they could
play the Bengals. If the Bengals somehow got in. It

(25:06):
was all maybe you avoid try you tried to lose
to avoid the Bengals, but somehow they got in. Travis
Kelce would be giving a much different end saying, hey,
Bengals are a great team. We want to make you
know they're they're terrific, and we're worried one game at
a time. That's what he would be if the Bengals
were actually in the playoff, because you wouldn't want to
incite them and give many bulletin board material because they
have a great chance of beating them. They may have
a better chance of beating the Chiefs than anybody in

(25:27):
the playoffs. But the fact that there's no chance they
could play them and they're out, Oh yeah, I'll play
them anyway. Walmart parking lot, you know, Salvation Army parking lot,
McDonald's parking lot. Well, we'll play any parking lot you
want to play in. We can go play well PLA
anywhere with PNC parking lot. I'll play them anywhere. It's
easy to be that fake tough guy with.

Speaker 3 (25:43):
That's the case.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
But that's why this is as good or better a
shoot interview in sound bite than even anything we had
on raw Monday nights as they opened their Netflix area,
and there was some pretty good sound bites. There are
a couple of really good matches, but all of it
to say Travis Kelsey, he knows there's.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
Nothing like He might as well be flipping.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
These guys the double bird the entire time.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
Ah, you didn't make the playoffs, suckers. Yeah, they were
mostly losses to playoff teams.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
Doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
You didn't win enough to get in.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
So take that and youre would be Let's feel bad
for Joe Burrow MVP award and stick. It is really
what he kind of said there, and I don't blame
him for it because he's able to come.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
Over the top.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
He's become a pretty good showman in this stuff. Not
the greatest showman, but he's a pretty good showman. And
trying to entertain his brother is part of what he's
doing here. And keep that entertainment bit because that's a
growing empire, especially as Travis.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
Another year older.

Speaker 4 (26:43):
Eventually he walks away from the game too, not anytime soon,
but the opportunity to get some extra sound bites in
the midst of everything else going on. We talked about
the playoffs, we talk about the college football playoffs, all
of these things. Here's an opportunity for it to cut
through and have a great SoundBite that comes through straight.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
Out of WWE.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
Yeah, Travis Kelcey leaned into it one hundred percent uh,
And I would be curious on a grand scale of
how much uh consideration was actually given to the Bengals
before the decisions to sit everybody down and everything ahead
again ahead of the game against Denver one percent? Two percent?

(27:27):
Did they talk about it at all? Did Andy Reid
just shrug and go who cares? All of those things
would be kind of fascinating behind the scenes, but the
reality is it didn't matter. Joe Burrow and the team
have gone home, and all of those would be dynasties
are still off in Earth seven two.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
See y'all in Burrow headed Burrow.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
I mean really, I would be gave it seven for
Evergreen Terrace. Now they're part of those CITs world.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
You know, I like that.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
No, that was pretty good. You know, you gave a
big jump there. Look, it would be it would be
a better playoff if the Bengals were in because look,
the Broncos are a fun team and you know, look,
we'll preview that game against the Bills coming up, you know,
tomorrow night and Friday. But but the Bengals, just I mean,
no one is unhappy to not to see them out
of the playoffs. No one's all about oh man, it

(28:16):
really let to see the Bengals. And no, nobody wants
to see a team red hot at the end of
December early January where the quarterback is playing at an
MVP level. No, you want the team with the rookie
quarterback who's getting his first taste of the playoffs. And
yes it is a it is a good team, but
that's who you want. Nobody wants to see them. Come,
I don't lie to me, don't lie to He's goes

(28:36):
so over the top with this. Ah yeah, Blakby. That's
why nobody wants.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
We'll get the smile on his face the entire time,
because he knows that's going back to Cincinnati and sitting
in the bat Cave where he's building and getting ready
for the delivery of his batmobile next year. Joe Burrow's
bitt at missed opportunities at miss kicks from mcpheers before

(29:01):
he got hurt at nissed opportunities and poor play by
that defense, by some of his own decision making at times,
and some efficiency issues that the offense had. Remember they
scored ten points against New England back in the opener.
All of that to say that, yeah, the heat message received,

(29:22):
play the heel, play it up.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
Be the villain, exit out by a Fresca exit swollen down.
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the
tiraq dot Com studios. Now, someone who has never been
confused with a villain because she's so nice. She is
always the hero. It is Monty Belangios with what's trending
in the wide world of sports? What do you got, Envy, Oh,
we don't have Monti right now. I thought we had Monci.

(29:45):
Maybe Moncei's Maybe Moncey's voice is bad. I didn't think
about that. Armin. Maybe that, you know, maybe we talked
about her voice last hour. We talked, we taught her
voice last hour and it just didn't work. I didn't
think about that. Well, that's probably what it is. All right,
Well we'll do it right here. Here we go. Here's
what's trending in the wide world of sports tonight, Mike
and I will do it? Come on, Tych, you give
us some music here? All right, here we go, biggest

(30:06):
story of the night. The Knicks win again, and I'm
mean Big Bodega returns, you know, and I don't mean
because they break a two game losers, but they win again,
their twenty fifth win of the year. Big Bodega in
his return of the lineup twenty seven points, thirteen rebounds.
Former Knicks RJ. Barrett Emanuel quickly cannot do nearly enough,
and the Knicks are back on their path to get

(30:27):
to the NBA Finals. Mike Carmon, what do you got
for us?

Speaker 4 (30:30):
Despite a subpar shooting night from their hero Donnovan Mitchell
just three of sixteen, the Cavaliers take down the Thunder
to extend their home run till nineteen and one on
a year thirty two and four, one twenty nine, one
twenty two Your final.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Pacers beat the Bulls one twenty nine, one thirteen. The
Bulls continue to stink till they did beat the nixt
to the other night. So there was that. The Sixers
win their first game of the year. Okay, it just
seems that way.

Speaker 4 (30:54):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (30:54):
They beat the Wizards one o nine one oh three,
Pistons over the nets one thirteen ninety eight. The Pistons
are over five hundred. You talk about miracles, they can
actually happen. Trailblazer is all over the Pelicans one nineteen,
one hundred. Zign Williamson a DNP A night after his return,
Nuggets on top of the Clippers one twenty six, one
oh three, and the Bucks beat Wemby and the Spurs

(31:15):
one twenty one to one oh five. It was a
big night for Wemby in defeat, except it wasn't at all,
just ten points and ten rebounds. Meanwhile, for the Bucks,
Jannis twenty five, sixteen and eight, Damian Lillard goes for
twenty six. Mike Hartman over to you.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
In less than twenty four hours before their matchup, James
Franklin went out of his way to try to clown
Marcus Freeman about his age and his hairline. He also
said college football needs uniform and he's saying you should
be in a conference as if he were trying to
start a fight WWE style.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
I like that, and that's what's trending in the wide
world of sports. Oh wait, wait, wait, wait, wait wait wait,
we got NHL. We got some hockey scores. Oh hockey,
I got some quick hockey scores for you. Two to one,
three one four one two two three two and a
five all time. There we go, There you go.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
And we did have one game postponed here because of
the fires and terrible situation.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
We've been dealing with here in Los Angeles. No Kings
or Flames.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Capitols beat the Canucks by the final of two to one.
Keep the music going with ty Shirt.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
Come on, man, Black Hats three to one winners over Colorado.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Yeah, the shocking game of the night because the Blackhawks
stink and the Avalanche are really good, and the Panthers
beat the Utah Hockey Club. UHC goes down by the final.
How about this of four to one? Upper body injury
snaps a two hundred and nine games played streak by
a Ganny Malkin. How about that four to three shootout

(32:43):
loss to the Blue Jackets for the Penguins, But he
hadn't missed a game since the twenty twenty one twenty
two season. And finally, the forty nine ers announced their
plan was to give brock Purty a big contract extension
coming up soon, John Lynch said, conversation will begin, but
they do have plans to release Javon Hargrave, but not

(33:05):
Deebo Samuel. According to Lynch quote, Deebo is under contract.
He's a good player and has done a ton for
this organization, and we're not in the business of letting
good players out of here.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
In their infinet wisdom. Oh go ahead.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
Sorry, he's gonna have to change that philosophy because they
don't have enough money. They're gonna have to let a
lot of good players go because they can't afford them.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
So I missed you though.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
When you give perty that fifty million dollars, there's a
lot of good players that you have to wave goodbye to.
So that's gonna happen. Sorry about that, John Lynch.

Speaker 4 (33:31):
Hoping for a winter breeze, NHL Commissioner Gary Bittman. Batman
made the big decision that the Winter Classic's gonna feature
the Florida Panthers and the New York Rangers.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
At Loan Deep home mark home of the Miami Marlins.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
You know, when you say that, people think, is that
a parking lot, like like like playing in the Walmart
parking lot, like like Travis Kelsey want to do.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
Yeah, they're also gonna have the Lightning and the Bruins
play at Raymond James Stadium.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
Oh, very good. And will Semruary first? Will somebody wear
pewter uniforms? They better?

Speaker 3 (34:01):
That would be a good uniforms. How about it?

Speaker 4 (34:03):
They? Yeah? Where those nineteen seventy six Buccaneers like uniforms?

Speaker 1 (34:07):
Let's go all right, now, that's what's trending in the
wide world of sports.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
I liked that we got all the scores right, that's good.

Speaker 5 (34:15):
You know.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
I used to do that. I was an update anchored
beginning of my career at Fox Sports Radio, and I
did updates all the time. It was all all that.
And I remember what my boss the time, the biggest
debate I got it with him over the sports like,
all right, well, the top of the hour update is
a minute long, And I said, okay, I said, what
what if there's a night where there's just a ton
of games going on and I can't get all the
finals in, But I say who wins? He goes no,

(34:36):
don't say that, I go don't say who won? He
goes no, don't say like, because I said like, and
other NBA winners tonight, the Calves, the Pacers, the Sixers,
the Knicks and the Pistons, right, like I'm getting in
that five teams won. Rather he goes, no, no, no, don't
do it. Don't do it that way. Go So you'd
rather me get less scores in than say the winners?
He said, yes, And I never understood the philosophy behind

(34:57):
like I could tell.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
I mean, look, he was doing it for the betters.
Even then, if you can't get it the game, you
can't let people know what the number was and whether
a team hit it can bother gamblers still gotta go
to the internet to find out.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
So just give me one score with the finals so
the gamblers.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Know and leave enough.

Speaker 4 (35:18):
Said okay, and leave enough room for the one nine
hundred number that I've established to give scores.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
Oh, that'd be great. Hey, if I'm doing a gall
I thing, can I give my one nine hundred number
during the update? Hey, Nicks win tonight one twelve ninety eight.
And if you hit me up before the game, I
would have told you you take the Knicks, you take
the over right here, and you in game bet Karl
Anthony Towns more than thirteen rebounds. My phone number is
eight seven seven nine.

Speaker 4 (35:43):
My five factors in Tonight's Big Game dial.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
Up now coming up next here on the show, we
are less than twenty four hours away from knowing who
will be moving on to the National Championship in college football.
Who gets the w tomorrow night? No Tree or Penn State,
Mike and I will tell you next. This is Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon.
Why if the tirag dot com studios where less than
twenty four hours from now we will know one of
the college football teams playing for the national Championship as
Notre Dame in Penn State. Kick it off tomorrow and
I'll tell you, Mike, I tried. I tried all year

(36:36):
to be in on Penn State. I tried. I just can't.
You know. If you're gonna say the same things about
Indiana they didn't play anybody, how much they deserve to
get in, it's really the same things about Penn State.
Penn State didn't lose any game they weren't supposed to.
They also lost both games they weren't supposed to win,
all right. They won. They beat one team in the

(36:56):
top twenty five, they beat Illinois. They played two top
twenty five teams other top twenty five teams and lost
to them both A right, and at this point you
get you get to where the best four teams left
in the college football playoff. I really want to buy
in on Penn State because their offense is good, their
roster is probably better than Notre Dame. But Notre Dame
is doing more with theirs. I can't do it right.

(37:19):
Notre Dame's defense is just different. They're playing extremely high
level and I have confidence they'll shut down Penn State's offense.
And Notre dames defense is gonna carry the day. It's
not gonna be pretty, and I'll take the under a
forty six and a half. But Riley Leonard makes just
enough plays, the running game gets just enough. They're gonna
kick a lot of field goals. I'm gonna say Notre

(37:41):
Dame nineteen thirteen, but of all the units on that
field tomorrow, I believe in Notre Dame's defense more. They've
been kind of a machine since they lost that game
to Northern Illinois. They've beaten good teams. They are really
rising to the moment. Give me Notre Dame in that
game tomorrow night.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
Yeah, I gotta think, you know, after that award winning
update that we did you and I yes, yeah, thinking
about it even more, that they're gonna go out of
their way to try to embarrass James Franklin if the
opportunity presents itself. The way he's condescended to Marcus Freeman,
that was abhorrent. Like we've chronicled some of the bad
quotes that you've gotten from Franklin, some of the childish

(38:19):
things and whining.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
This was just ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (38:22):
And if it was, you know, ahead of a fight,
he would have gotten decked for what he did to
him in terms of age and hairline or whatever. It's like, yeah,
he's got a fourteen year age difference. You've won. How
many Monster games still waiting?

Speaker 3 (38:40):
So for Fimit and company.

Speaker 4 (38:42):
Yeah, Riley Leonard and the offense, I'll be interesting curious
to see the Notre Dame defense and how they stack up.
You've got a tight end who's gotten ninety eight catches
on the year. How do you slow that down? Drew
Aller a guy that all of a sudden We're hearing
all the NFL teams clamoring if he has a big
run that maybe he forgoes that final year at Penn State.

(39:05):
But I think Notre Dame gets the the run game
started again. Ridley Leonard makes a player or two with
his legs, gets to the edge and is able to
find receiver or to downfield, and that their defense is
up to the task. In this one still gonna be
a narrow victory. Like I can't go and let feelings
take over like James Franklin did at the microphone, But

(39:28):
I'll take Notre Dame by a field goal.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Yeah, Franklin is proving that anytime he has to talk
for a length of time, it's not good. And it's
like Gerd Mayo not good. Like, boy, you really wanted
to say that, you really wanted to say that those
are really bad? Look do you really want to say that? Yeah,
you want to whine about the conference thing? Fine, yeah
you can hear it. And even this was not the

(39:50):
time or place for it. Yeah, Like what do you
think you shouldn't be playing Notre Dame? Like they don't
deserve their way.

Speaker 4 (39:56):
They don't deserve it. Marcus Framan, you know what you're
not old enough. You haven't you don't have enough pelts
on the wall, Like, what the hell was that all about?
Because if it's head games, I guarant damn t if
Freeman and his squad are just chuckling, going wow, okay,
that's where you're at, Frida Lay.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
I'm gonna need to see Penn State actually win a
big game before I pick them to win a big game.
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna sit here and say,
oh this game. No, now, it's gonna be this kid.
They gotta win a big game and they haven't, right,
So they gonna show me they can win a game
before I pick them. I've seen Notre Dame win big game,
so okay, give me Notre Dame in this one again.
I love the under. I love the way under on this,

(40:35):
Like you can give me the under over under of
like thirty five and I would still take the under
at nineteen thirteen with.

Speaker 4 (40:40):
This can't wait to be on air to talk it
all out tomorrow night here on Pons exit out about
a Fresco exit swollen down The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon, my buddy Ben Mallach coming
