Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Fox Sports Radio. Welcome inside the Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon. Video element on. That is
gonna be so oft sure. Oh yeah, we had a
five to five second air drum solo before we started. Yeah,
that's gonna I think I'm gonna do that a lot.
We never played the Crazy Train open. I think we're
gonna have that. I think we need to get you
one of those little electronic drum kits. Let's see if
(00:56):
you can replicate it where I could just play it
on my lap Jack play at play the drums, but
only you hear it in your head, so it's not
for everybody else to listen to. That's good, okay, nobody
else needs it. I'll be like the little kid from
uh uh Love Actually when he just keeps playing the drums,
and Liam Neeson keeps walking by with his hands over
his ears, and he just keeps playing the DRUMA that
(01:16):
kid went on to become a big star. He's married
to somebody incredibly famous. I want to say, Brody, Brody Sanger.
He was well, he was in the May's Runner movies, yes,
but he wound up marrying somebody that you're like, whoa
really like the little kid, the adorable kid from love
actually the adorable kid. He's married to somebody that's like,
You're like, whoa really like? Yeah, Like I want to say,
(01:39):
it's somebody famous's ex wife, Like, who is it?
Speaker 3 (01:44):
I'm working to find that as we just do.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Brody Sanger wife girlfriend? How I didn't know his name?
I just said I said his name. I didn't believe
you think that there's stuff about about pop culture that
I don't know. I know everything. You know nobody. If
you know nothing the last eleven years, you know that
that stuff, you know nothing? Who is it? Do I
got to find in the next ten seconds, because you
are somehow epic failing here, Brodyley Brody, I don't know
(02:09):
who that is saying spice girl friend, it says to
Lulu to Lulailey, Okay, she is who she was in inception? Okay, uh,
something called Saint Trinian. She was in Pride and Prejudice?
How about that? Was she?
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Two thousand and five?
Speaker 1 (02:27):
She was married to Elon Musk. That's right, she was
married to Elon Musk. That's who it was. Yes, there
you go, that's who it was. That's what she was.
That's I knew there was something. That's what I should know.
She was married to Elon Musk from twenty ten to
twenty sixteen. Wow, wait, she wasn't She wasn't. Uh was
married when when when he named his kid like X
seven four? That was after Star? Okay, see Mary knows
(02:49):
Mary's Mary's gen z. She's dialed right into this. Look
she's a stalker. Yeah no, no, no, I mean Harmon really,
I mean stock down on Mike Carmen. No mean me.
If I was doing me culture first round draft right now,
you are slipping out of the first Okay, i'd go love.
Actually there, you didn't say his name until I.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Was already in the maze runner, and then I saw
Brody and then I just kind of figured out.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
That I gave you everything like you are you are?
You are slipping out of the first round again. It
was a show you and I were trying to do,
and she decided she needed to be missus Helper over
there trying to make me look bad four minutes in
the damn show. You're the shador. Sanders locked, You're the
I'm sure were Sanders. You should have said you're falling
out of the pop culture first round draft. You are
(03:32):
falling out. Why did everybody kiss his ass? You're falling
out of it? Also, you couldn't get to that story
fast enough last night about him getting his code for
his death, the pop culture and Internet search draft. You
are falling out of the first round. I got fat
finger mel Kuiper has. Honestly, I really didn't get bel
Kuiper's got an arrow going down next to your name.
I'm sorry, that's how it goes. That's the guy we're
(03:52):
gonna use as my evaluator. It's like, you know what
it was the last time, mel Kuiper, all right, I
meant I'll explain it to you. And are we going
back to nineteen eighty seven? The Jets have no idea
what the draft is. I saw the Dracula hair, I mean,
what are you we doing? In better terms for you,
it's like when you open up a card catalog as
you like to buy yourself card and you see a
(04:13):
card and there's a big arrow going down next to
it because the value has Decayah, nobody does that, and
that would be it. They don't do that anymore. It's
instant marketplace. Okay, there's plenty of places you can find
the last fifty sales of a certain card, or it's
parallel in a matter of seconds, kind of like me was.
I was gonna take one more search term to get
(04:36):
to where I was. I was going down the decision tree. Okay,
all right again because I didn't know the kid's name.
I knew the kid from love x or Arrow going
to row going down in the pop culture and internet
search traft mappen. You AM's gonna come and have me killed.
Arrow going down. He's gonna have me killed. Hey, I
want to say first things. First is that I want
to say thank you to the Philadelphia seventy six ers
(04:58):
for deciding they were done playing back basketball with a
minute to go in overtime. Okay, the Knicks win tonight
and look, obviously the big NBA News, Karl Anthony Towns
is out bone chips in his thumb. He did not
play tonight because you know, the Knicks can't have nice things.
He's going to play through the injury. They looked at it.
Surgery is not need. He got hurt against the Pistons
when he bangs his hand against the backboard. Wound up
(05:19):
playing the whole game. He says, look, it is what
it is. I'm gonna play. But the swelling was too
much for him for him to play tonight. So the
Knicks play the Sixers. There's no Karl Anthony to no
Big Bodega, there's no Embiid. And it goes to overtime
and the Knicks get up one twenty five, one fourteen
with about a minute plus left to go in ot
Paul George hits a three to make it an eight
(05:40):
point game with fifty seconds left to go. Okay, so
what do you think what's gonna happen here? Sixer are
gonna extend the game. They're gonna at least foul a
couple of times, make the Knicks make free throws. No, no, no.
The Knicks next possession they get twenty seconds, they dribble
off the clock and Jalen Brunson loses it on a
turnover and Max he goes in for a layup twenty
(06:00):
seven seconds left. It's a six point game, So okay,
Todd Bowles take over. So all right, you know you
think you would put him on the free throw line,
but you got the steal. You made it a two
possession game with twenty seven seconds left to go. Now
you're gonna foul. No, no, no, Sixers. Let the Knicks get
the ball across half court, pass around. The Knicks take
twenty three seconds off the clock. They take the actually
they take the full twenty four seconds because they take
(06:22):
the shot clock violation. Like, I don't know why Josh
Hart just didn't shoot the ball up at the end.
I don't know why he was throwing up the ball,
like you take a couple more seconds off the shot.
But he holds onto the ball. I mean he might
have come, I mean the brass tacks. He holds onto
the ball. The Sixers just let all the time take away.
Sixers get the ball back with two seconds lower, three
seconds left down six the game is over. Like the
(06:43):
Sixers decided in overtime, we're done. Where we are done playing.
We fit, we're tired. I know, we hit a three
to shut down early season. Like that's like that's tanking.
Like that's like, did you not even halfway to the season.
They just like tanked in the last minute of the game.
We're not even going to try to make at least
make the Nicks go to the free throw line once.
But like this is the sing and this is why
(07:04):
I say eventually, and it could be there's not too
much time left before the deadline. Now we're getting in
February six, We're getting close. At some point, Joel Embiid
is gonna say I'm done here, all right. For all
the talk about Jimmy Butler or Zion Williamson and trying
to make money work, Joel Embiid still is a huge
prize for somebody across the NBA, because, hey, motivated, When motivated,
(07:27):
Joel Embiid is as dominant player there is in the NBA.
And you want to think that maybe the next two postseasons.
We talked about with Steph Curry last night, the next
two postseasons, Joel Embiid is gonna be somebody that's gonna
be really motivated. Okay, got out embarrassing yourself putting those
two guys in their work ethic and say what I'm
saying is okay, Steph Curry, it's because he's going to
be forty. Joel Embiid, it's because he's lazy. Okay, that's
(07:50):
what it is. Okay, but making sure we put our
baseline like it just feels like Joel Embiid is done
in philadelp Right, he's he's not playing, he's in and
out of the lineup. He's done. He's absolutely done. But
as we've seen with NBA stars, whether it is Chris
Paul or Kevin Durant or James Harden or any of
(08:12):
these guys that you think, boy, they're just circling the drain.
Now they're absolutely done. Oh no, no, they've shut it
down until they get to a new destination. Right, I
got James Harden, he's done with the Clippers. Why do
you do it? And now, well, wait a minute, James
Harden is playing pretty well. But we've seen it with
these players where they get that new destination and suddenly, hey,
for the next couple of years, Hey, I'm happy. Yeah,
the new car gets somewhere. And I'm not saying you
(08:34):
can count for more than that, but the next two postseasons.
So this one and then you figure next year into
the postseason. Joel Embiid could be a guy that puts
you over the top. He is done in Philadelphia. They
should build around Tyre Smaxy. They have some nice pieces there.
He can be a one. Embiid is done. And if
I wou was not gonna be surprised if you find
(08:54):
out sometime in the next week or two, Hey, Joel
Embiid wants a trade. He wants the Sixers to get
him out, and then some kind of trade can be
made somewhere else he wants to go. I would not
be surprised. And then suddenly he gets dealt and then
he's really healthy and he's playing every single game. He's
playing forty minutes. He's not pulling down on his shorts,
he's not tired shooting free throws now, and he'll be
back to being the Joel Embiid that hey, when I
(09:15):
want to be the MVP of the league, on the
MVP of the league. But trust me, watching the Sixers
game tonight at the end, I wasn't complaining because it was,
you know, helping the Knicks, but I just feel like
the sick they're done. They're just spinning their wheels until
something happens. And that's something that's got to happen, is
Joel Embiid's going to demand a trade or they have
to understand we have to move Joel Embiid and maybe
they have the conversation you go, yeah, sure, but it's
(09:36):
got to be a place I want to go. And
superstars have the power. So it's not like we're gonna
be able to trade you to New Orleans for Zion,
but they can be something that's worked out, something that
can happen. It's not the first time I've said this,
but as you get closer, you can see the Sixers
look done. They just look like they're waiting for the
inevitable to happen. So we've got less than a month
left to go, and I know you want to time
(09:56):
it right. So it's something that you can hit it
with a bit of sense of urgency, where hey, we
have three and a half weeks till the trade deadline.
We tried for a couple of weeks, it didn't work out,
Or you do it when it's a couple of weeks away,
so you put the pressure on the boy. We got
to get it done now or we're risking keeping him.
So you want to time it right. If you're Embiid,
you don't want to say it too early because then
(10:17):
the Sixers might say no, you want to do it
too late at the cake and the deal done. But
you want to time it just so. Hey, we feel
the sense of urgency to get a deal done and
Joel Embiid can get someplace else. The Sixers need to
move on, right. They're not getting better. The Eastern Conference
is getting better. Other teams are loading up and they're not.
You're rid of his salary. You can start over next year.
This is already a bad year for you. What else
(10:38):
are you gonna do? I'm telling you, Oh, Joel Embiid
on a different team on February seventh is the right move.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
I dig that because the only thing he did here
was cheerlead.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
He cheerleads pretty pretty well for those people were unaware
of the game particulars he didn't play. So it hasn't
since the fourth So Paul George twenty six even he
was talking about being bored all sorts of stuff. So
he's already, you know, put his flare up into the
air for us here, this is a tenuous situation at best.
(11:10):
Another great game from Max Egoes wasted thirty three points
from him. He did take thirty two shots thirteen to
thirty two. So you know, we're talking about volume, the
old Saturday Night Live skit about making change about that.
But all in they do shoot fifty percent from the field,
lose one here. The MBI argument for anything is always
(11:33):
kind of laughable.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
Right.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
We get excited about him for about three weeks and
then he's heard again. And look, he's a big guy.
The fact that he's had the career he's had after
those early surgeries, injuries and everything else is improbable and
incredible because it's felled many a big man. So I
you know, whenever we get into the criticism part of it,
(11:54):
we take that and you know, you give him his
doffing of the cap and salute you battled through and
became the player you did.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
But you know, week to week, but am I giving
up what I need to?
Speaker 1 (12:08):
You know what I'm handing a hanging out on the
second apron and all that stuff. Buker was trying to explain,
the other day, how are we gonna make this trade work. Well,
we've got four white boards that we're bringing in and
you're gonna have to follow it. It's like the Daniel
day Lewis draw the way over here. That's how we
(12:28):
drink the milkshake and get Joel em beat into town. Yeah,
what you got frost.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
But the real question is do.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
They sell bone ships at the butdega, Oh, they sell
special bone chips special? No, you know what they do
is no, that's burnt down. Hang on, I'll tell you
what they do to make money is they put that
special new Karl Anthony Towns basketball card in a set
that comes with bone chips in the card instead of
a squat ing that yet it comes with a bone chip.
(12:56):
Sure they do. Oh yeah, No. The baseball cards. When
I was a kid, dude was a kid. You've got
baseball cards about Daga in every store that's one.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Hundred five and dime.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Baby, That's where I grew up, and that's where I
was able to get baseball cards at the bodega. You
never grew up. Sure, I'm still that guy. I'm still
sixteen years old sometimes and I'm fifty four times. I'm
that way. But yeah, I know, real bone chips in
the card. That's the next thing. Actual blood or things
from people is the next phase of Oh we got some,
I'll send you some some examples the bone spurs. But man,
(13:32):
there have been hair lockets of hair. I drank announces
of hogs blood every day. I'm never gonna By the way,
does the uh the love actually kid get a bunch
of Elon's money in the deal? Exit out, out of Fresco,
Exit small and dome. The Jason Smith Show with my

(15:47):
You ever tell you my Rix Springfield story? You have
a Rick Springfield? Oh? Yeah, yeah, I have a Rick
Springfield story. Ready. The only one I got is from
my Instagram reel where people are like, who the hell
is this gather falling around in Disneyland and it's Rick Spreefield.
Someone's like filming him, like who is this guy?
Speaker 2 (16:04):
I don't know who this guy is?
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Dude, everybody's got a reality show? Was what it called?
Was it called slick Ricks Tricks? Was it was? It was? It? Hey? Now,
spring time with Springfield? Was it was? I don't know
what spring No, it was literally he was there as
one of the you know folks, getting led around like
he's a hero, you know, with like this VIP treatment
and they're like, why does everybody kissing this guy's ass?
(16:27):
Like it's Rix Brigfield. I actually have two good Rick
Springfield stories, real quck before you get into the Dallas Cowboys.
One is I vividly remember this nineteen was eighty four,
and I want to say it was the Jets Brown's
Playoff No. Eighty six the Jets Brown's playoff game where
the worst loss in Jets history. That a ten point
lead before minutes left and we blew a ten point
(16:48):
lead because Mark gatsono late had Bernie Kozar and we
lost in overtime. Was awful. But did anybody go up
to him and say how they eat? He screwed them
and took stuff away from them and extra paychecks. Can
say I want my sack and go, I want you
to lay off of Bernie Kozars so we could go
to the bleeping super Bowl. But you didn't do that?
Did you? Gast know? So I want to say it
was Don Kriky and Bob Trumpy were doing the game
(17:11):
right Bengals. I got to explained to millennials who Don Criky,
Don Krikey comes out and and like I listened to
Don Krikey, Yeah he was oh man, his voice is
so good. And Bob Trump he just hated everybody. Uh
(17:31):
so he played for the Don Krikey is the announcer
of the game. And it's a huge game, playoff game right,
And they announced the attendance and the attendance was the
most I think it was the most ever in a
Browns playoff gamecause obviously they keep adding people keep right.
And so he says, I remember him saying, because you know,
he had this line ready to go and someone told
him and he screwed it up, because he says, and
(17:51):
you know, they're saying that they haven't had a crowd
this big here since the Big Springfield concert last summer.
And then like Bob Trump, he goes, you mean Springsteen,
and he goes Springsteen, Springsteen, the Born in the USA Tour. Eh,
doctor doctor Noan Drake is here. Oh my goodness, Yeah Springsteen, Yeah, Springsteen, Yeah, Springsteen,
(18:15):
spring Steve Springfield, the Big Springfield Guns. Are you gonna
start singing the Jimmy Hart the Big String off the
wrestling album Meat Your Heart, Rick Springfield Love. I've been
waiting till that story's been in my head for like
almost forty years. I've been waiting to tell that's a
great line. Now. The other thing is Rick Springfield is
that this is about fifteen years ago, and it's more
(18:35):
thanifteen years ago, and that's about twenty years ago. And
I was when I was at ESPN and I was
doing all night and my my boss said, hey, I
have a pass and a ticket for you to go
to the ABC Big Soap kickoff dinner. I said, what
are you talking? He goes, well, and she goes. She goes, well,
they're kicking off the new season of soaps, and so
it's a big dinner. It's all the stars are there
(18:57):
so you can network and there there's a couple of
people are going to and I'm like, oh my god,
that's great. Right, So she goes. So she goes, You go,
you have a seat. I said, okay, awesome. Like I'm
at the same table as Thorston k who was a
huge star he like called in the show. He said,
you have one of those ESPN phones. I go, yeah,
the phones. We couldn't sell it all to no one
bought them, right, so he came home a box. I
it's worth money. Yeah, I want to say, that's how
(19:18):
we got Mario Lopez on the show. And like THEA
Andrews came on the show and Rick Springfield is there
and he's not at my table. But it's it's not
like it's a huge thing. It's like it's just a
restaurant that that that's bought out. So he's like two
tables over from me, and my best friend's wife was
a huge Rick Springfield fan. Right, So I'm like, oh
my god, what do I do? And then so the
end of the night, I'm like, do I get a picture?
(19:40):
He was like, you know, it's like kind of selfie.
Do I get an auditor? I don't know what to do.
I'm here professionally. But they had everybody's name like emblazoned
on a little on a piece of paper, so you
know where you're sitting. I said, oh, I know, he's
gonna leave his name tag there. I'm gonna get it.
I'm gonna mail it to her and she's gonna love it.
So I wait till he leave. I'm like waiting out
Rick Springfield like, dude, come on, man, you gotta leave,
(20:00):
you gotta leave, you gotta leave. And so Rick Springfield
leaves and so I go over and I and I
pick up the name tag, and this dude who was working,
who was cleaning the tables, goes, you're taking that? And
I look and I go, it's a guy in a
white jacket, white coat, and go, yeah, it's just a
name tag. Goes, Okay, I go, aren't you just gonna
throw this away, right. He goes, that's it's it's it's
(20:22):
a it's a it's a it's a name thing. I go,
it's paper, it's I just said, you know, and I
just walked away. I'm like, okay, I don't want this
guy to know who I am. I don't anything else
about that. But here's a guy clearing up the tables.
It's mad at me because I took the placehold, the
little paper placehold. Nothing was of value on it. It
just had his name on a piece of paper. No,
in fairness, given the breath and history of the show
(20:43):
for those unaware, I mean that is a downgrade from
some of the other crimes. And yeah, that was kind
of a that's kind of a victimless crime, right, I'm
learning out all. I learned about that in criminal law
injustice in high school. And there's such a thing as
victimless crimes. Yes, that's me. Victimless crime. What is it?
Like the fIF stolen named plate, like like the three
(21:03):
tenths of Ascent that they tried to steal an office
space and all of a sudden, hey bill a lot
of money missing, a lot tons of cash. So there's
a surrounding are Yeah, So which story did you like better?
That one or the Springfield Springsteen neither? Oh? If I
heard I mean, if I was able to hear it
in the voice of done gritty Springfield got, perhaps that
would be something Stein Springsteen concert. Yes, Ah, I blew
(21:27):
that line. I blew it because the entire time it
comes back to crusty in the Cloud. Ah, how did
I blow it? I knew it was Hey, where's that? Pa?
That told me it was Springfield? Where's that?
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Pa?
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Said Springsteen that? And he might have shown his hand
as to what he was watching on daytime television. Enamored
with Doctor Noah Drake. And here's sixty thousand people here
to see Rick Springfield sing Jesse's Girl and one other
song before he's done. Let's go. I had to have
another hit, you know, we had Don't Talk to Strangers?
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Did Yeah?
Speaker 1 (22:03):
And then he had another one. I think he had
three hits.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
He had State of the Heart, Affair of the.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Heart, a lot of a lot of the heart, human touch, yes,
human teggone. There you go. There's his three hits, the
three hits for Rix. And now he's a d he's
a working class DJ.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Is it on?
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Yeah? On serious?
Speaker 2 (22:17):
X seven day.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Yeah, yeah, he plays a lot of sun the working class.
Dj Rix s Marole, we go working class. I feel
like we need to reach out and have a conversation
with her. Net worth is in the tens of millions,
but I'm working class, Djy. He identifies with the working man,
just like Springsteen spring or Springfield Springfield Springsteen in interchange,
I mean Springfield Town, USA.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
You ever know where you are?
Speaker 1 (22:37):
You're You're born in general hospital, That's what you are. Uh.
It was just two days ago that it was Hey, man,
the Cowboys are talking to Dion Sanders. This is odds
on favorite, I know. And now here's two days later, Friday,
the Cowboys are gonna talk to Robert sawah Well about
(22:58):
their vacant head coaching because leaving no stone unturned, you've
gone from this is eminem you're living up here and
now you're living down here like you go from coach
Prime and the the attention that he's gonna bring to
the team, and and and all the auction he's gonna
suck out of the room for all the other stories
across the NFL where he's gonna turn the value of
(23:20):
the Dallas Cowboys up even more, it would be unbelievable.
And now two days later it's yeah, I'm gonna talk
to a guy whose career record as a head coach
is twenty and thirty two and got fired in the
beginning part of the season like this is this is
where the Cowboys have gone from. Oh my goodness, look
at this d What the hell are you doing? What
the Robert Salad didn't just become good because the Jets
(23:42):
lost more after they fired him. It's not like Sala
the couple of years coming in boy twelve wins. You
did you really fire Mike McCarthy for Robert Sala? I mean,
come on, man, nothing else. You also need a defensive
Cordina Hey, I mean he's engaged now if it's the
bait and switch that it's, Hey, we're bringing you in
for the head coaching position, but we're gonna offer you
(24:05):
the DC spot that I get because look, Sala is
a great right in Chicago. Great. I was gonna talk
to Cincinnati after they got rid of Luna and a Ruma.
But he's on. But he's in to be I mean,
you fired Mike McCarthy for a guy who really showed
you that a head coaching job was too much for him.
That's what you did, That's what you did. Well, they're
(24:26):
trying to look it's an arms race between these teams.
They I think they get a special prize like an
extra juice box or something if they get to twenty
interviews for a head coach Jerry Jones. Like Jerry Jones
have a bicycle. Bears in the Jets. Come on, if
you tell Jerry Jones, okay, you want to win, here's
a bicycle, and you get on it, and you're gonna
start here. And then you see fifty yards away straight ahead, Yeah,
(24:49):
that's the finish line. Just bicycle across the finish line
and you can win. And he would say, I got
everything I need and got my helmet, I go, I
got I got my got my right shoes on, and
I could stay in here and stay on the say
on the bike again, I got water justin case. Yeah, well,
Steven's gonna push the pedals for me. Uh okay, just
go straight ahead, okay, great, And immediately Jerry Jones would
(25:11):
start and would just start doing circles and just start
doing just go straight, just go straight, No, no, no,
I'm gonna do circle. He'd be Stephen Jones's shoulders like
a spider monkey. That is just the Cowboys, no matter
what they do, even when it looks like they're gonna
do something big, because Dion Sanders would be big. He
would be a guy you fire Mike McCarthy for. But
(25:33):
you fire a guy who What did I tell you
about Robert Salah? The head coaching job is too much
for him. He built a really good defense with the
Jets that fell apart. And I'm sorry, but you can't say, oh,
maybe he was a better head coach just because the
Jets lost more after he was fired. No, he didn't say. Again,
his record is a head coach is twenty and thirty two,
and last time I checked team records is a head
(25:56):
coaching stat. That is a head coaching stat.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
It's not you can say quarterback stat.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
You could say wins aren't a quarterbacks that I disagree
with you, but but you could say that, and I
think you have an argument. But win's and law really
a head coaching stat. So he never showed he was good.
Everything else bad. I mean, if you, I mean yeah,
if you, if you're Dak Prescar, like, what the hell
are we doing?
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Right?
Speaker 1 (26:17):
Yeah? Yeah, because I the only thing I can think
of is that you say, well, he'll come in and
build a pretty good uh defense, But it doesn't matter.
You're not gonna win. He's shown you he has no
idea how to run the offensive side of the football.
But it's just showing the way we watched this breakdown
and we talked about McCarthy, you know, a week ago
of is he gonna run out.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
The clock on Jerry Jones?
Speaker 1 (26:38):
And now we have you know, different reports of contract
length and guarantees versus they never even got to that part.
So it's trying to parse out what's real, what's imagined,
and who's trying to tell the tale, you know, who lives,
who dies, Who tells your story? Kind of thing Hamilton
UH related, And so we we get to this next
(27:00):
He says, you don't have a plan because you denied
the Bears an opportunity to talk to McCarthy. You lost
the window to talk to all of these assistants right
where there's an open season, Hey, everybody's schedule, whatever the
hell you want, and then it closes, and then you
can't get him back to the bargaining table to decide
(27:22):
once and for all, and it drags out towards the deadline,
and now you're just bringing pretty much every warm body
that has ever coached a football game. What about that guy?
Is he ready? I mean, I don't know where this
suddenly became a thing of Hey, interview as many candidates
as you can. What what the hell is I've seen that.
(27:43):
I've seen folks trying to defend that. I'm like, no,
that's telling me. I really just know. I'm standing what
is it? Thirty one flavors plus? You don't know what
you want? And I don't know. Let me just get
a bunch of samples. Which one do you want? I
had fifteen samples? Good, I'm not walking in going I
don't know what I want? What would you have? Well,
I'll have the butter pecan. Oh, I'll have that. You know.
(28:03):
You know I don't like butter pecan. I don't know
why I got it, but the guy said it was good.
Like you, you have no idea what you want or
what you're looking for. It's dazzle me. It's like I
feel like all these teams just sit back, and the
Cowboys are doing it now, the Jets, the Bears, they
just sit back in a room, and go uh with
one of those big change my minds on it. Hey,
I might not hire you. Change my mind like this
(28:24):
is what they're eight foot folding table out on the
quad even change my mind.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
I mean, everybody I think is trying.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
To capture as much as we're talking about what's going
on in the Pittsburgh world with Mike Tomlin right now, right,
the legend is that's exactly what he did. Well, he
got the cursory interview because they had to interview him,
Rooney Rule, all these other things, and then he just
blew them away.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
So every one of these owners, the.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Hallas McCaskey group, the Jerry Jones of the world, suddenly
they're gonna get enambered and blown away nothing they've seen.
They've been in this game for four decades plus. Suddenly
some revolutionary new idea he could come in, like lyle
Anley cowboy cowboys for cowboys, gonna cowboy man. I mean,
(29:11):
they just even when they look like they're gonna do something, no, no, no,
we'll show you a couple of days later. Now we're
still gonna screw that up. A big move. Really, We're
like a big move where this guy comes in and
does the song and day. This is how bad the
candidates are. We're already down to Hey, Robert Solo might
be better than you thought he was. Oh, okay, okay,
Cowboy Jets.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
He's probably a really good head coach.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
I think Robert Sala's twenty wins puts him third all
time for wins by a Jet washing coach of the year.
Next year? Is he the guy that runs the stairs?
A lot of stairs in our stadium, Stephen, I don't
think he'll be ready for game time. Cowboy's gonna cowboy man.
I love it. I absolutely love Dion. Robert Sola. Uh hey,
we got you that code, Dion.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
Damn it, get you the.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Notes negotiation table. We got more coming up in ninety seconds.
But first, let's talk to someone who is going to
interview for the Cowboys head coaching job after Robert saw Hey,
it's Wani Belongos. I'm available. Just I gotta tell you guys.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
You guys were talking about I literally in my head
envisioned Jerry Jones just riding the bike in a circle.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Yeah, I stop, see it? How do I stop? What
do you what do you mean? The brakes are on
the on the handlebars, don't. I gotta go back with
the handlebar breaks? What what? What do I do? What
do I do? It's just gonna keep going in a circle.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
I also saw in a tricycle, you know, like in
saw the Jigsaw in the little tricycle.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
As we're talking.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
That's what.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
There's a couple of customed toy designers that I that
I follow in and iraquid. Now nic see if they
can make me a Jerry Jones on a bike. See
now I'm envisioning. This is how the cowboys are going
to pick their head coach like Jerry Jones's Jigsaw. Like it. Okay, Salah,
you and Dion one, he has to cut the other
person's fa foot off. And if you do that, whoever
gets out of there, I'm gonna hire. I bet you did?
(30:50):
Uh sorry something that they should have been on a
voice disorder, But it's not. You knew it was me anyway.
Theones got a head to start, guys, isn't he already
missing toast?
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Come on, said it?
Speaker 2 (31:02):
I thought it, but I wasn't gonna say it.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
So Glad Roger wins again. Sala wins again, got a
five for the saw and then doing then seeing and
you could be the head coach of the Cowboys. Just
outworks well.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy had an in person
interview today with the Bears and Jordan Schultze. Fox Sports
reports that Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores is going to
interview with the Jets and the Jaguars on Friday.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Almost on Saturday. They're all one more they can get,
they can get a stamp and get a free a
free foot long sub at subway candidates. Karthy got flown
in first class. Bears have never done that. That's newsworking anymore.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
In the NBA Fellas, the Raptors handed the Celtics a loss.
All healthy, there was nobody missing for the Celtics. Raptors
win at one, ten to ninety seven. RJ. Barrett twenty
two points, eleven rebounds and eight assists. Then Nicks beat
the seventy six ers one twenty five to one nineteen
in ot did you see that Carl Anthony Towns was
wearing an eagle sweatshirt?
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Jason, Yeah, they off, They made him take it off.
Said the second Halvey was waiting mixed gear. Hey hey,
big Bodega. Yeah, I know, but Hey, we already have
a story of an Eagles fan and the Packers fan
thing going on. We don't need to repeat.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
The Grizzlies outscored the Spurs one twenty nine to one fifteen,
and Jamra had twenty one points twelve. Assissters also a
video on social media you can find a Moran dunking
on Victor Ween Banyama put him on a poster, but
it didn't count.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
The whistle had already blown, but it happened.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
The Rockets are beating the Nuggets right now, ninety to
sixty seven, four minutes to go in the game, four
minutes to go in the third quarter, with the Jazz
on top of the Hornets eighty to seventy three at halftime.
The Warriors are beating the Timberwolves fifty five to forty two,
and early in the second quarter the Heater on top
of the Lakers forty to thirty nine. On the ice,
it's a tie game between the Oilers and the wild
They are tied at three apiece after two periods. And
(32:51):
we got some college hoops going on as well. Perdue
number seventeen. Per Due losing to Washington at halftime thirty
to twenty two. Number two with State defeated number nine Kansas.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
Seventy four to fifty seven.
Speaker 1 (33:04):

is headed to the NFL? Is he the answer to
your dreams? And who are the guys you really want
(33:26):
a quarterback in this draft? We'll tell you that's next.
Jason to Mike Fux. You can't say his name.

today's show and a best of version posted right after
we get off the air. And I'm sure the Springfield
Springsteen line will be there as well. Oh it's brilliant,
no question about it. So big College Football News today,
which turns into big NFL news to no one's surprise,
knowing that he's probably not gonna be able to come
back and win the job again, which you know, Jaln
(34:28):
Milroe a couple others, Quinn yours is headed to the
National Football League as shooting his final year. I think
he has maybe four more years to go to Texas
if he wanted to stay, clearing the way for Arch
Manning to take over next year as the Longhorns quarterback.
And quite obviously, yes, youwers could have gone someplace else.
We wanted to go someplace and get six million dollars
(34:49):
four to six million dollars nil money. But he wants
to go to the NFL. Was it going to come
back to Texas because there'd be more of a cry
for Arch Manning to play instead of him. So I
gotta kind of get going before I lose the gig.
Now with yours going to the NFL. This almost completes
the graduating to the NFL class of quarterbacks headed to
(35:11):
the draft. And I'll tell you this. All of now,
looking at this class, we've talked about how underwhelming it is,
about how even the guys that are gonna wind up
going at the very top of the draft, Shador Sanders
and cam Ward in some kind of order, really aren't
great players. I don't know how many of them even
have high first round grades on them. But because quarterback
(35:33):
is such a position of need and life is miserable
without them, they'll go as two of the top three picks.
They'll probably in the end they'll probably still go one
two because both teams need quarterbacks and what are you
gonna do so with those two guys going, But still
cam Ward right now getting a little bit better grade.
Maybe the shine is off of Shador Sanders a little bit,
or waiting to see where Dion winds up coaching next year.
(35:56):
But I'll tell you this, right of all the guys
headed to the NFL, this is the year, and this
is not about the top two teams, the Titans and
the Browns. If you need a quarterback, and that's a
lot of teams in the NFL. This is where you
go second round, third round and get your Russell Wilson.
This is the year for that. Because it doesn't mean
there's not gonna be good quarterbacks coming out of the draft.
(36:18):
It's just I don't know, I don't know, but all
of the quarterbacks coming in have warts of some kind. Right.
We talked about the two guys going at the top
of their first round grades. Quinn Ewers maybe a third
round guy. When coming into the year, potentially he was
an early first round pick. He has lost it. Jalen
Milroe the same thing. Boy, Milldoll's gonna covince me the
(36:39):
next Lamar Jackson. Boy, the way the season went him
heading to the NFL, maybe he would have lost his
job coming back. Maybe he's the second third round guy.
So all these people that are headed to you, Drew
Aller decides, I'm coming back to school rather than head
to the NFL. The two guys, I wont Does you
have any risk of losing his job? That's my curiosity there.
(37:00):
James Frank, Now do you make it to the you
make it to the semi finals of the uh Okay,
I'm just saying life comes at you fast. It does,
it does, but certainly that interception was a hey, you're
going down an extra round or two tone, Tony is
not walking through that, Chuck Fusina is not walking through
that game. You're Johnson john If Johnson, you're not gonna
(37:23):
see him come through. Just did I missed him? Where
was he? Uh? The two guys I want because I
watched them have incredible seasons. Not only did they have
incredible seasons, they finished stronger than any other quarterback of
the game. Where they had end of the year was terrific.
Their bowl games were great, and you look at what
(37:43):
they've been able to do. The two guys I want
not just one guy. Guys, I know where you're going.
You guys I want are two guys. You finish in
the top three passers in the in college football this year. WI.
The two guys I want are Kyle McCord and Jackson Dart.
Come on, Zach Wilson, Kyle McCord and Jackson Dart Right.
(38:04):
McCord finished. He had an incredible senior year. He had
one game where he threw for less than three hundred yards. Okay,
thirteen games. One game was under three hundred yards. He
finished with over in his last two games, which was
the upset over Miami and the Bowl game. Eight hundred
and fifty yards passing in two games. He has shown
you that he is accurate. He knows where to go
with the ball. He is decisive as arm is strong.
(38:25):
He's not very mobile, and clearly that's where the air
is because you look at what seven of the eight
quarterbacks left now are all very mobile quarterbacks. I think
Matthew Stafford is holding up ball by himself of the
non mobile Guy'll tell you what, one guy, if you
were down the stretch betting the over rushing yards, yeah, yeah,
well he did well because it was always like yeah
to two year exactly, and all of a sudden he's
(38:46):
got an eight yard runs. How many kneel downs? How
many yards we might have losing the kneel down. But
McCord has been that good all year. The confidence, the
tight windows he can get the football, and Jackson Dart
has been phenomenal. He's a dual threat quarterback. They didn't
he could have got out of the pocket and run
even more than he did for Ole Miss. He can
throw the football down the field highly started have to
(39:07):
recruit who left USC and found his way in a
big passing offense under Lane Kiffin. These are the guys
that I want that if I'm in the second or
third round and I need a quarterback and I got
to fill my quarterback room, these are the two guys
I want over all the other ones. These are the guys,
and that's gonna be the curiosity. And I knew McCord
was going to be your guy, and sadly I have
no no dispute with it for a couple of reasons.
(39:30):
Just the physicality, as you say, the ability to read
and get the ball out.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
What was the.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Problem this week for the quarterbacks that failed in the
playoffs holding out of the ball, staring things down, taking sacks. Wait,
that was mostly Sam Darnold. It kind of zeroed in
and tried to expand it. But you know, we all
know the elephant in the room there. But for Dart
for Roar got it in Indiana, right, six ' five guy,
(39:58):
big arm as well, You've got guys on the second
and third day where you don't have to reach right
because if you get Sanders or reward wrong up top,
or you reach in the back end of the first
round and decide one of these is you guy, you're
potentially setting yourself back. How many times do we see
it with teams that you're reaching and hoping to fit
(40:21):
the square peg, round hole kind of thing, and instead
you're left and you're going back for another quarterback two
years later, as opposed to solidifying your d line, your
own line, and finding a guy who's a staple for
five to seven years at a minimum instead of reaching. Hey, look,
there's something to be said for players and quarterbacks who
(40:42):
have three to four years experience all the extra games play,
they've seen a lot. We'll have more on this and
a big story out of the NFL coming up. Next.
We're going to talk superstars and who's on the new list.
