(00:31):
Welcome in side our three, The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon Livethetirack dot com studios, where
we just watched Steve Kerr lose his mind. Did you
you you? Absolutely losing his mind, upset with the officials
and the big Golden State Warrior lead over Sacramento is
(00:54):
now gone. Sacramento just hits a three to take the lead,
and Steve Kerk gets a t He is not happy
because they're not good this year. He is not happy
with the officials. So we'll see how the rest of
the fourth quarter plays out. I mean, this has been
a big game so far tonight, still a long way
to go. But wow, Steve Kerr, sometimes sometimes you know what,
I'm gonna completely not proportionally respond, just because I'm so
(01:17):
mad and I got a vent because my team we're
not going in the right direction and I'm gonna have
to trade Steph Curry at some point. Tee pot is
boiled over right here. Third quarter they put the graphic up.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
The Warriors scored twenty points, several possessions, clearly bogged down,
clearly thinking he's getting a foul call, jump shooting whatever. No,
DeMar DeRozan had nineteen yeah for.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
The Kings in that quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
So yeah, Steve Kerr, So I don't think I've ever
seen him quite that animated when he wasn't at the
dais lecturing me about something.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
You know, DeMar DeRozan's gonna be like the Kenny lofton
of the NBA, where he's gonna be like forty eight
years old still playing. He's gonna be sixty and people
think he's still playing on Demart Rosen's really good, dude,
He's sixty eight years old. He hasn't played. No, I
still I thought DeMar DeRozan is still playing.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Well, he could be like all those remember the famous
adages of legendary baseball players.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
What do you think you'd hit in today's game? To
eighty five, eight five. Why only to eighty five? I'm
eighty five years old.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yeah, DeMar DeRozan two thousand and nine.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Draft pickout of USC so been around him. People still
think he's a young dude. Who was he twenty eight
twenty seven years old? Start five A Two big NFL
stories from today. One because just more fun than anything.
The Raiders have a new GM, and it's John spy Tech.
He is the new names of all time. Now, this
is why is such a great story, because this is
(02:44):
a perfect hire for the Raiders. Because I am a
I'm a I'm actually a John spy Tech expert. I
don't know if you know that you are. I am
a John spy Tech expert. He's just because you've watched
a lot of espionage films. No, this is because I
know exactly everything. He's going to bring the Raiders five.
Everything's race. He's gonna show up as a GM. He
(03:05):
will be able to investigate other teams like it's nobody's basic.
You are not pulling the wall over John Spy Tech's eyes.
But here's the problem. Now, now you're gonna have all
sorts of questions about chicanery and Tom Brady's part of
the organization. So that's why you gotta have a guy
that it's a lot or are they just doing it
(03:25):
to it's a red herring. So all that you're investigating
everything and watching every key stroke that he does. Meanwhile,
behind the scenes, you've got some tom foolery. Well he
is going to work for both sides. Oh very nice
is that? Hey, listen, you're not gonna be able to
get the plays ahead of time. But I will also
make sure nobody steals our singles because you know he's
(03:46):
gonna have it's gonna be Internet proof. You're not gonna
be able to hatch so an architect of defense unlike
any other dude. We're not getting in on the raiders
big data basement. That's spy tech. Come on, it's not happening.
We got to go talk to the guys from what
was it for the Cardinals? And the Houston asked, yes, yes,
how did you do it? Hey? We had John spy
tech advising us. It's how it worked. Folks.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Forget that the Cardinals somehow gotten you know, slapped on
the wrists for all it, but that that's in the
here to there spy tech and the last.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Thing he will absolutely wear a mask at every press conference.
And I don't mean like a full mask, like a
Michael Myers mask, now, I mean like a like a
just a mask over your eyes, like yeah, exactly. Yeah,
that's good.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
That's what he's gonna do, nicely, just wear that mask
of the press co yeatcause he was with Brady and
part of the brain trust that did bring him to
Tampa Bay, so long relationship there. But yeah, no, this
this is one of the great surnames.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I would like him.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah, they don't do a lot of trading cards for executives,
but I think I might send him a note just
to see if I can get a hand signed spy
tech response. You say spy tech and then it plays
like a computer, like a like off the computer.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
I can't get the Raiders plays, dude, it's the Raiders.
We don't need their plays. We can only put eight
guys out there on defense. It'll be fine. We need
the plays, dude. I watched Ain'd and O'Connell. Just the
ball hit him in the mask, and they would have
beat the Chiefs and the game would be in Buffalo
this week. But the ball hit him in the mask.
But all he had to do was catch a snap
and they still won the game. We don't need the
(05:22):
Raiders plays. Okay. Spy Tech is great and to be
much better off with a different organization. When you try
to break in, does it give you the Wayne Knight
for Jurassic Park? Uh? Uh, he didn't say the magic word.
It's John spy Tech and you hear.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
The Rader's motion walk up like that's the intro.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Now, speaking of the Raid and speaking of Tom Brady.
H Brady was on Colin Coward earlier today and talked
about his desire to stay in the Fox booth for
at least next year. He says, I'm not ruling out
doing another contract with Fox after his ten years, three
hundred and seventy million dollar contract is over. He also
wants to stay owner of the Raiders, and that's his
(06:06):
plan going forward. He wants to do both. It's his
plan to do both, and well thirty seven million from
one whatever five percent of the Raiders. I get to Dad,
is get tell Mark Davis what I want to do.
And I can't tell you how stupid and not worth
anyone's time. This Uh, Tom Brady broadcasting with Fox is
(06:29):
a conflict of interest with the because he owns the Raiders.
Nobody cares about this story. Nobody thinks it's a big deal.
Nobody and people who talk about this story like it's
a big deal. You gotta come up with something more
interesting or something that people care about. I'm only talking
about it now because I want to talk. It's stupid
because really nobody cares. Other executives across the NFL they
(06:54):
don't care about it. It's not like Tom Brady's gonna
show up on the Fox broadcast and say something glowing
about a play and boy, he looked great in silver
and black becks. Here, Hey, how about seven years, eighty
five million dollars we're to do Fortnite. He's gonna say
good things about people on a broca. You can say
he told me he liked me. I have to go
play for the Raiders. This is nineteen seventy seven, where Hey,
(07:18):
you heard about stuff in the NFL on Monday Night
football or you never heard about it. You can get
to a guy any way you want to. You can
say things. You're able to have instant access to someone.
They know how you feel. Players talk to other players,
who talk to other players, who talk to people through
back channels and this one. This is a stupid story.
(07:38):
It is absolutely stupid because fans don't care, the players
don't care, other teams don't care. It's a dumb, dumb controversy.
I don't know anybody that thinks, oh, the Raiders are
gonna get some kind of advantage. They're not. It's not
it's it's just stupid. But the rules of engagement, you're
gonna find out if there's other promises outside of the
(08:01):
salary cap and whatever else, right, because that that's what
you're implying when you go down this. He's gonna do
it todcasting a game, He's gonna do it broadcap. What's
he gonna do broadcasting a game?
Speaker 2 (08:10):
But like somehow he gets some special access and opportunity
for the wink and then to do what you can
text the guy.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Anywhere to do what? What's he getting an opportunity? What's
he gonna do? What's the advantage he's gonna get.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
The flowery language on the broadcast? Is gonna convince the
agent to sign a team friendly deal with the Raiders
so he can say Tom Brady was a partial owner
of the team that he played for.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
How dumb does that say, so, where do you want
to go? I got the Dolphins are ready to come
in one hundred million dollars, three years, all guaranteed. I
really I'd like to go to the Raiders to set
the Raiders. That offer was terrible. It was three years
and fifty million, only fifteen million guaranteed. Yeah, but Brady
said really nice things about me on the broadcast. I
think they're gonna give me a real chance. The Dolphins
want to give you one hundred million dollars all guaranteed.
(08:56):
You think they're not gonna give you a chance? What
I mean? He really sold me on the silver and black,
and how good I'd looked at it. I don't understand
how this has even become a story. Oh, it's a
big conflict of interest. What we have come so far
in broadcasting and what look I I look. You go
back to years ago where certain things were seemingly taboo,
(09:18):
and nowadays it's that's not a big deal at all. Well,
I remember we thought that was such a big deal,
but it really wasn't. That's this This is not a
big it's too inside baseball, it's too a while. The
conflict of what he can do show me something that
Brady can do that nobody else can do. That by
broadcasting games for Fox, he's going to be able to
(09:39):
have an advantage for the Raiders. And my first of all,
I'm gonna tell you, hey, Raiders can use any advantage
they have so that they actually got something. I wouldn't
care that much, but it's not out there. But if
you can tell me what it.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Is at Swollen Dome at how about a Frescat Fox
Sports Radio, if you can actually discern what that advantage
would be, I'd really like to hear it.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
Right. It's it's the explanation for why that one person
didn't vote for Etro for the Hall of Fame. I'm
not mad at you. I just want to know what
your rationale is. Same thing here.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
I'm not gonna get mad at you. This is what
you truly believe. But what's the advantage Again, if he's
on air doing with Flowery or what, He's gonna just
suade someone by talking down I don't know.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
In Kansas City, I mean like it's fracturing the reliant
on this guy flopping out of bounds to get calls
to win games. I mean, I don't see a future there. Yeah,
that's gonna convince a guy not to He said I
had a great Blitz pick up. I remember that one time,
and I don't think anybody from the Bills has told
me that I had a great Blitz pick up.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Watch this.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
I got this frame and when I hit this button,
it's I mean, this is just it's just stupid.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Now, look, the big thing about you know, hearing Brady
talk today about wanting Now, something that's real about this
is that you know, wanting to come back and want
to come back to Fox next year. And I'll say
this because this is what's fair about Brady, Because we
say about quarterbacks who have an uneven rookie year. Okay,
we've gotten to the point now where if you're a
rookie quarterback, you kind of have two years to get
(11:09):
things done. If you don't show some kind of jump
by the end of your second year, you're not getting
a third year. So this is why Bryce Young was
such a big deal that he showed that jump when
he got back in the lineup with the Panthers. Because
outside of that, the Panthers, they'd let him go. He'd
go someplace else and he'd try to work out. Maybe
he gets back in at some point to be a
starting quarterback, but he flashed the end of year two. Okay,
(11:29):
you get year three, but mainly, if you have an
uneven rookie year as a quarterback, you got to have
that big jump in year two to show that, hey,
this is gonna work. Brady's got to make that jump
in broadcasting from year one to year two. He had
some good moments, but we talked about it last week.
Brady has gotten too bogged down in telling me everything
going on with the play and what's not his specialty.
(11:52):
His specialty is his personality and telling stories. And he
should be more of a manning cast type analyst than
someone telling me who's shooting the gap and what's happened
on this blitz? Pick up and give me something, because
everybody kind of just tunes out anyway. When when when
you're hearing someone drone on about this play and this
happens here, and this happens here, they should have probably
(12:13):
had a three man booth where Brady could have picked
his spots and really and and really cut through as
a great analyst. But he jumped in. He tried to
tackle it all. It was uneven he's got to show
that year one to year two improvement where he gives
me something where I'm coming off of all these games
going wow, Brady said this today, and that really cuts
through because that's what Troy Aikman is doing. Right. Troy
Aikman doesn't right but now, but right, you have to
(12:38):
get to that IDGAF part of your career. Whereas I
understand that I'm okay saying what I'm saying because Fox
wants Brady to be someone that, Hey, we're talking about
what Brady is saying during Sundays, We're talking about what
he's saying on Monday, and it's a conversation all across.
We're getting our money's worth because Brady is stirring the
conversation and outside of Tom, Brady needs to do better.
(13:00):
We haven't really had a lot of great conversation about Brady.
He's okay, like he's but it's not what we thought
it was gonna be because Brady's not himself. He's trying
to say, here's what I think an analyst should be.
Just let it fly, man. If you don't explain what
happens on a sweep when a player loses four yards,
I don't care because I saw the middle linebacker shoot
the gap, but I saw him make a big tackle
(13:22):
that I don't I don't need you to tell me
what happened on it. But if you have a great
story about hey, you know what, I lifted weights with
this middle linebacker and then he did this and did this,
and Okay, that's what I care about. That's something that's
gonna cut through that I'm gonna remember right that. That's it.
Just be yourself and and and and and be the
personality that Fox brought you into be. That's all I
(13:42):
can tell you.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Remember, there's you know, the gradients of you know how
much people understand the game and who you're talking to.
So sometimes he'll be like, well, I don't need that,
that's obvious. And for what we do, we probably watch
more football uhan than a lot, and we bring on
analysts that make us or each and every week for Brady.
Remember the thirty seven million also covers a lot of handshakes.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Thirty sevens in a row.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
And everything in terms of sponsors and friends of the network.
So yes, being paid to do the broadcasting thing. But
the name Tom Brady brings a lot of people to
the yard that might.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Not otherwise exit out by a Fresca exit swelling down
the Jason smithser with Mike Carbon Life the Tirec dot
Com Studios. Whether you agree or disagree about Tom Brady
the broadcaster, just understand the whole Brady ownership broadcasting thing
is stupid. Just as long as you get I get it.
Coming up next, we get back into a story where
a team in the NFL that is used to losing
(14:41):
all the time had a huge win today that in
the off season. Baby, that's neaxt Jason and Mike Fox

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Big game coverage is presented by Otesla oh Prevo Last.
This is football's biggest moment under the lights on the screen,
(16:10):
where we come together to celebrate the best of the best.
This is more than a game.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Be there Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon Livethetireck dot com studios. We'll
have more on this. Warriors King's Battle. Three minutes to go,
Warriors lead by four. Again they had led big early
(16:37):
than Steve Kerr loses his mind. Yeah, game of runs.
The Kings took a big run and now coming back
the other way. So we'll see how much longer will
they have Steph Curry. But it's not often the Jets
get a win. It's not often, and this may be
the only day this calendar year the Jets really win.
(16:58):
But they won today because they got Aaron glenn is
their next head coach. And we we get to bigger
fish frying because this is really a lot of it's
about Aaron Rodgers. I used to fish fry via w
on Fridays. That had have been tough, man. You know
what would be tough for me, too fishy, too fishy smell.
It would have been tough. Yeah, it worked out okay though.
I mean like a lot of clothespin on your nose
(17:19):
when you were.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Boston tables and you know, you always made sure that
people wanted the coffee as they sat down. You took
care of that, got them their fresh bread and kind
of I hang out on Fridays.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
It's all right. I got tipped very well. Come on,
down to the fish fry. Hang out. That was good.
Have some coffee and fish coffee, coffee, chicken, have chicken
at the fish fry? Really, that's what you had? Chicken
you had? Why'd you have? Why'd you have chicken at
a fish fry? That's like, I'm going to Red Lobster.
You have an opportunity of steak? Hey do that? Did
they not have steak available at Red Lobster? Yeah? But
(17:50):
why would I get that one? I'm there to get
lobster or some kind of seafood. It's a seafood restaurant.
Why would I want to bring your whole family? Not
everybody want fish? You know you got your out numbered
five to one? Are you gonna abstain from showing up
to the dinner you don't like? No, no, no, But
if your family, you're just saying, hey, you guys go
out to eat there. Blank you I'm going and I'm
(18:12):
gonna get a steak over here myself. I'm gonna you're
gonna go there? What does the chicken taste like? I'll
taste like fish because they make it with no no, no,
no separate friars and oh yeah right sure, yeah, completely
separate it's okay, you give me that wake out and
might might might have been real, butter completely not something
(18:32):
called whirl anyway. But look, the Jets win today because
they get Aaron Glenn and look the second coordinator that
the Lions have lost. Now, after Ben Johnson goes to
the Chicago Bears, will have more on that aspect of
it coming up in about a half hour. He's pumped
up and he's excited. But look, the Jets don't get
many wins, but they win this because Aaron Glenn is
a guy who is highly sought after, who was a
(18:55):
star in New York. The Jets drafted him, he was
made the Pro Bowl a couple of times with he's
one of their better defensive backs over the course of
their career. He gets New York. He played for Woody Johnson.
He understands what it's like to play there. There is
no better person to slide in. He has met with
overwhelming acceptance by the fan base because he played for
(19:16):
the team. Not that that's always that they'll all he's
a hometown hero, but no, the Jets, you need to
get excited about your head coach. And when guys like
Adam Gase get hired. It'say, okay, have fine, Robert Salaz
coming back for other year, Okay, fine out you need
some sort of energy, and Aaron Glenn is bringing that.
He's already ready for the Jets because he had the
(19:36):
twelve and on the field penalty at a really bad
time and the Lions loss last weekend against the Commanders.
But he's the win. He's the guy. He is not
the perfect head coach because it's not wasn't a great
pool of candidates. I'm not saying he's the greatest candidate.
And the jobs aren't great either. None of the jobs
that are open are good. They're all terrible. There are
no jobs you could walk in and say we can
(19:57):
win next year. But if you have an opening, you
gotta fill it with if you want to be a
head coach, where you got to take one of the
jobs that's there. He has said it's been his lifelong
dream to coach the Jets. So yeah, the Jets got
the guy who was perfect for their organization. He's already
talking a veteran offensive coaches about coming in and coaching,
which is a great move. You know, he's got a
(20:17):
guy that's going to focus on culture. He's someone that
is not married to a certain system. He wants to
go by his personnel. He's talked about that that. Listen,
we change our personnel year to year. Did it with
the Lions? You know, we went from a certain from
a four to three. We moved to something different. Our
defensive ends were undersized, but then they were oversized. He's
the perfect guy. The Jets don't get a lot of wins,
(20:38):
but they got one with him. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
I think the big thing is, uh, you got a
guy who's very excited to be there.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Now.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
I do agree with Jason Cole to a point in
terms of it smacks a lot of the Robert Sala
persona right as to who you're hiring as your head coach.
Now it becomes a get out of the way coach
up the defense to that personnel. But like Ben Johnson
in Chicago, it's gonna be about, all right, what did
(21:04):
the coordinators look like? What's the infrastructure look like? Because
we watched it in Detroit as they built it out.
Dan Campbell remember the laughs and you know, sound bites
coming out of his introductory press conference and what do
you do? Built a grid of assistants and position coaches,
former NFL players, including Glenn the wonder Kind and Ben Johnson.
(21:28):
A lot of people putting Nate the Great up alongside
him in terms of their comparisons. So there you go,
get some more ted lasso in while the wonder Kid
as it were.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
But who said wonder Kin? I didn't. I didn't say that.
I didn't know who said that. I didn't read that.
I'd say one, I didn't say that.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
So for the Jets and Woody Johnson, this was the long,
circuitous route to get to the guy that seemed like
the obvious choice to begin with.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
They could have paid me instead of the thirty third team.
I know what the consulting fee was, Hey, Aaron Glenn,
because I went from you know, Aaron Glenn would be
a really good They have to get Aaron Glenn, Like,
we have to get Aaron Glenn refreshed, refreshed. Do we
get Aaron glenyet? Do we get Aaron Glenn? Do we
get Aaron Glen yet?
Speaker 3 (22:10):
Like?
Speaker 1 (22:11):
That's how fast it went from But in this cycle
unless someone came in and wowed you and we talked
about this with the Bearers process of everybody they were
interviewing with the Jets who weren't far behind. With the
number of people they talked to for the GM job
and for the head coaching job, it became unless someone
was gonna come in and absolutely blow you away, whether
it was Joe Brady or Pete Carroll or whoever. Glenn
(22:34):
was third on the metal stand, I and Ben Johnson
and behind Mike Rabel and you didn't even have to
talk to Ben Johnson, probably because you know he would
say no, one just laugh at you.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
But Brick must have seen something in the video game
playing Look, I thought Detroit offense he didn't like.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
Look, I thought he got too cute. Dad. That's another
reason why this is so good, because I thought the
Jets are gonna get it's gonna be last chance hotel,
like it's gonna be nobody with options like Aaron Glenn
had options like It's not like they were great, but
still might have been able to go in New Orleans
where it seems like they're in a position whereby whoever
gets to come in, he's going to get at least
(23:07):
a year or two where there's no expectations because they've
gotten the roster right between Carr and Kamara and everybody
else you're at a place it's gonna be all right.
We got Chris Alavey. What else do we do? Now?
I'm glad you mentioned about cutting the roster and getting
extra chances because I hate to say I told you so,
but now you really don't know. I really don't. I
(23:27):
think you have a tattoo of it. Couple on the
back of your left tricet. A couple of reports out
of New York. Michael k one of them long time
Yankee played by Michael Kay. Michael Kay. Michael Kane speaks
through his nose like this. He's retired from acting, now
Yankee play by play guy. He had hurt up and
at them. Uh. He said that he had heard that
(23:50):
Aaron Glenn this is right before he got announced as
Jets head coach. If he comes in, wants to keep
Aaron Rodgers for this year. This is one I hate
to say I told you tho because right when the
season ended, the day it ended, and he thought it
was gonna be Rodgers last time? What did I tell you?
Rogers will be the quarterback Week one for the Jets
this season? Right now? A quick recap, because why did
I tell you? If the Jets really wanted him gone,
(24:12):
he'd have been gone already. Woody Johnson would have been
telling prospective GMS and head coaches. Rogers has gone all
this back and forth with Rogers about wanting to stay
and being fired by a teenager. If Woody Johnson wanted
him gone, he would be gone. But he's not. I'm
leaving it up to the next head coach in the GM,
the next head coach in the GM, who come in, Hey,
I want a free year. I know I'm going to
(24:34):
be married to the quarterback that I pick and if
it doesn't work, then I'm gonna be out. But I
get a free year to figure that out. Because there's
no one the Jets are going to take early in
the draft this year. There's no one with a high
quarterback grade. This is the year to pick that quarterback
in the second and third round for Jackson, Darter, Kyle McCord,
Jalen mill Rower, whoever it is. This is where you
get the guy, get him in for a year, and
(24:55):
then you see what you have A year from now.
The Jets are going to want to fill their quarterback
room with one of those guys. Along with Jordan Travis
out of Florida, State who was not healthy enough to
play all year, Rogers has said, I'll mentor somebody, I'll
do it. They will fill the quarterback room. It's a
free year for Aaron Glenn and whoever the GM is.
When Rogers plays. If Rogers is great, terrific, we keep
(25:16):
it going. If not, time for Aaron Rodgers to go,
let's get a quarterback in. Aaron Glenn's gonna come in.
He's gonna set us a sort of culture and that's
where they're gonna build from. So knowing all of that,
when you compound that with the fact that Rogers is
not nearly at the top of the Jets problems, they
have all kinds of problems that aren't even Aaron Rodgers centric.
(25:39):
The defense is now terrible. You're worried about keeping Garrett Wilson,
keeping him happy. What are you doing with Devonte Adams.
You're gonna need a bridge quarterback anyway, cause you're not
drafting someone to give him the job right away. You're
gonna need a bridge guy. So why not a guy
that knows the system already, that knows what he wants
to do, that knows the personnel, and someone who maybe
it just took him eleven or twelve weeks to get
(26:00):
back to the quarterback he was than the three or
four weeks we all thought it was gonna because I
thought the beginning of the year, hey, it's gonna be
at about a month. No, no, no, It really took him
till week twelve or week thirteen to suddenly be a
guy where he's not skinnish in the pocket, he's stepping
into his throats more. He looks more like Aaron Rodgers
right the version from the beginning of the year. I thought, Okay,
maybe he's getting it. It took him love, But when
(26:21):
you're forty, you're coming back from a torn achilles, maybe
that's the case. Just ask Kirk Cousins because that could
be the case for him as well. So, knowing all
of this, and knowing that Rogers finished pretty well, top
ten in yards, top ten in touchdown passes, the Jets
have more pressing issues. So you tell me what's better. Hey,
let's get rid of Rogers, bringing a completely different bridge
guy and draft the quarterbacks, or we keep Aaron Rodgers here.
(26:43):
We get a free year. If he's great again, great,
If not, we're moving on. That's what's gonna happen. They're
going to keep Aaron Rodgers week one. As long as
he's healthy, he's going to be the starting quarterback of
the Jets.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
Come back to getting the pulls of the locker room
whoever your other leaders are, and that's what Glennell have
to identify pretty fast. You've got a bunch of decisions
to make on personnel. But for the Aaron Rodgers question,
it really does come down to that, because, as we
chronicled it coming out of the season, Yeah, were there
(27:16):
opportunities where maybe he could have with a little bit
more efficient play gotten them wins, fourth quarter opportunities that
were left to the wayside. Yeah, there were plenty of those,
but overall flawed squad away you go everybody's preseason darling,
But it was no longer the same problem that you
(27:39):
saw the first half, right, you had storyline after storyline
of disasters. I was like, he actually quietly played well
to your point in getting into the top ten in
a number of statistical categories, and to where he's not
the most egregious of your issue. The falling off of
the defense and seeming commitment by several player is far
(28:00):
more concerning than anything. Number eight was doing by the
end of the year. So as you go into free
agency and trying to figure out who the next guy is,
and this is where you've got to, you know, really
look him in the eye and find out if it
was just lip service about this I'm going to help
mentor or is it literally a I'm gonna go through
(28:21):
my processes and I'll let you stand close enough to
where you watch me.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
See. I think it's the first because you can just
tell the way Rogers is talking the last couple of months.
He knows I have no more cachet, I have no
more advantage. I know I'm hanging in the NFL by
a thread. And if the Jets let me go, as
another team really gonna pick me up, are they gonna
start over with me for a year? He knows his
best chance to stay in the NFL is with the Jets.
(28:44):
So I firmly believe that he also doesn't want to
leave the game with that kind of reputation for someone
who wants to either coach or be involved in the media,
something he doesn't want to leave with. Hey, Rogers was
a jerk, So I had a team or Whatever's going
to be easy to do. The best he can.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
So if if that is the case, if he wants
to be that guy, what are you finding in the
open marketplace that's gonna be smarter that is seen as
much as he has because it is a long window, right,
I mean, he's a forty year old guy, a lot
of games, a lot of coverages. He's faced up against
every great defensive coordinator that we've seen these last several
(29:22):
decades in the National Football League, and he's bested most
of them on occasion. Right, He's had his day in
the sun. So who better to impart that knowledge, wisdom,
know how and craftiness than Rogers. Meanwhile, you'll get a
few laughs because I'm sure he's got stories for days.
Not everybody in the league, but sure. But going into
(29:44):
the off season, whether you love one of the guys
in the draft or not, you're gonna take one. And
the free agent market stinks like there's nothing out there,
and he's the best of the bunch, as much malign
and dismissed as he was all season long. Tell me
what you trust more in free agency than him?
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Right now? There's nothing. No, And then, and that's part
of it as well, is that, hey, there's not a great.
It's all working, it's all the perfect storm for him
to stay. But it's all part of why it's good.
There's no other alternative where I can say, oh, unless
suddenly the Cowboys got we're ready to trade Dak.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Oh, well we'll go get Dak Prescott against Aaron another
coach on your staff. So you can argue that whatever
you're paying him dollar cost averaging, you're getting hours as
a coach. So figure out what that value is to
you as well.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Exit out about a Fresca, Exit swollen Dome. The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the Tirack dot
Com Studios. Tim how to find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports from someone who's been called
the Aaron Rodgers of Fox Sports Radio. She was so
good for so long in the last couple of years. Boy,
there's lots of questions. Then she goes on Darkness retreats
and is a big fan of ayahuasca. It's Monty Blagos.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
I think I'm okay with that comparison as well.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
Okay, Darkest treat you do one? Sure? Sure, you know.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
Sometimes I can't stand people. I could use some silence, Okay,
sure you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Sure, you know it's it's good. You're a broadcaster for
a living.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
No hey, no, no, no, that means she's truly embraced broadcasting.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
This point, people, I'm gonna go hide, exactly.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Sometimes you know, I just want to we want to
be in silence.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
You know, everybody needs a little time away.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
Mon.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
But I would like, also need like tequila with me,
not this Iahuastika crap.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
I would just want some tequila instead.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Yeah, ok, you know what I'm saying. That's a tequila retreat, exactly.
It's also called happy hour exactly.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
I love me some happy hour. The Warriors are not.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
A happy hour. I love you, and then all of.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
A sudden, I want to be around people. So there
goes my darkness retreat.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
Uh. The Warriors are.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
Not in happy hour right now. Fellas the King's pulled away.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
When it mattered at the end, they came out on
top one twenty three to one, seventeen Tomanta Sabonis another
double double for him, twenty six points and eighteen rebounds.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
The Clippers are hanging in there, guys, without half the team,
so it's pretty exciting. But the Celtics are on top.
Speaker 5 (32:10):
Ninety six to ninety one with less than four minutes
to go in this one. Jalen Brown leading score for
the Celtics right now, he's got twenty points. Kevin Porter
Junior the leading scorer for LA because again everybody he's
not playing, he's got twenty four points.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Maybe that's why Tylu had that look on his face
when I saw him at luncheon. I'm not gonna have
anybody for this game tonight. Whoa boy? Maybe he got
that text when he was waiting on his om light
that content still when when he walked by me, he's thinking,
who am I gonna put out there tonight? Can I
call Brent Barry exactly?
Speaker 3 (32:40):
Well?
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Can I put him at Don McLean and DJ? Clearly?
Maybe the pregame meal is American Pie.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
If that's the case, he probably could use a darkness retreat.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
You know, wait, wait, wait wait? If I say Don
McClain American Pie, do you know what that means?
Speaker 5 (32:57):
No? Yes, maybe American Pie, the American Come the song
like the movie?
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Yeah, I know the song? Yeah, okay, you do I
know the song? You know who sings the song?
Speaker 4 (33:08):
The guy you just mentioned, Don McLain.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Don McLain there you go. I was waiting for it
like fire and get that name out.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Putting it all together. You just mentioned the one you did,
Don McLain, the one you just got a guy, the
guy in the place. But I did go to the
movie first, not gonna lie to you, So I was like.
Speaker 5 (33:26):
Timberwood was the edge of the Mavericks one fifteen to
one fourteen and losing ever. Kyrie Evering had thirty six points,
but he did surpass eighteen thousand career points, and the
Rockets beat the Calves one o nine to oneh eight.
The Grizzlies took down the Hornets one thirty two to
one twenty Shay Gildess Alexander with a career high fifty
four points, as the Thunder defeated the Jazz one twenty
(33:48):
three to one fourteen and men's college hoops number seven.
Houston has won eleven in a row after crushing Utahs
seventy to thirty six. In the NHL, all the games
have wrapped up the King's Edge the Panthers two to one,
and the Jets beat the Avalanche three to two in overtime.
And yes, in the NFL, in case you missed it,
I'm sure you didn't. The Jets are hiring Detroit Lions
defensive coordinator Aaron glenn Is the Are you laughing?
Speaker 1 (34:10):
It's a good story, it is.
Speaker 4 (34:12):
I'm just I'm not laughing of the hiring.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
I'm saying Jets in case they missed it, which we
know they Everyone starts the story. Yes, being reports that
it is a five year deal that ties him through
the ties him to the to the team through twenty twenty.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
And I can't talk. I expect you like that's it.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
I'm too much, too much, too much. This is it.
You're you're good, all right? There we go, There we go.
I'm still here. I keep wondering why there are worms
on the floor outside the studio when I walk by.
I understand now, worm racing. When you're done with the
I know, exit out, out of Fresco, exit swollen Dome.
Coming up next, Mike and I break down not one,
(34:52):
but the two biggest games of the night. Right here,
Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

biggest moment under the lights on the screen, where we
come together to celebrate the best of the best. This
is more than a game.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Be there. How Mark Andrews dropped that ball at the end? Nah,
knew they'd blame Lamar Jackson, but it really wasn't all
his fault because Mark Andrews dropped that pass at the
end of the game. Don't forget that fumble. Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Tell you what though, best of everybody, Bill's fans once
again donating Andrew's charity.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
Was over strand they always do agree. Serious question. Yes,
what's longer this song? Or Oppenheimer? Oh oh, Oppenheimer? Okay, yeah,
yeah yeah. Oppenheimer is longer than the Irishman the Zack
Snyder cut? What yeah, yeah, it's wait what about Lord
of the Rings director's cut which one Lord of the
Rings looks like a music video Comparing Towers compared to Oppenheimer.
(36:29):
Oppenheimer's like two hours longer than the Jets season. It is,
it is, it is. Wait do you listen when you
Oppenheim Ty Alex Tischer is watching Oppenheimer for the first time. Okay,
i'll tell you this. You will get to My wife
and I got to the point in the movie where
the bomb goes off. Right, spoiler spoiler the bomb. You
know they watch it. No, no, no, no, they test
the bomb, they test the bomb, the bomb goes off,
(36:51):
and my wife looked at me and said, they're still
an hour and ten minutes left in the movie. And
I looked and I said, no way. And I said really,
people turn around and said, no, no, there's no way.
There's an hour. This movie is interminable already. You tell
me it's an hour and ten minutes left. Fantastic movie. No,
it's Crumbolts was great.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
It's a good part of the Peaky Bleeping Blinds.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Fantastic. It's the longest movie ever. So good, it's so ever,
it's so long. I mean, trust me, you'll watch it. Go. Oh,
this is we're still watching. Okay, it's still going. It's
still going. It's still going. But because Christopher Nolan has
had a career where he's made a lot of money
for Hollywood. Oh, we got to give him, give all
the awards of this movie when it was just a
(37:35):
long movie. It was just a really what a long movie?
You need a hug man, it's a long movie, or
some of that tequila. It wasn't great. It was just boy,
this movie must be great because it's so long. We
must be We have to overvalue it. It must be better
than we think. Jason, you wouldn't know a good movie
if it hit you in the head. Stop. You may
not like my sports takes, you may not. I will
(37:56):
never steer you wrong on movies, TV or food. Never never,
never know. Stop with that. I my winning percentage on
that is like I'm like, you know how I know
not to see a movie when you tell me it's good?
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Really? Okay, that's okay, that's fine. All right, I'll give
you special advice. Frosberg.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Are you guys gotta fight now because this would be good? No,
I'll just keep you.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
You gotta come. We're back to keying, car. I thought
we grew up past then you never left. But now
we can go back to it. I could go back
to move and and no one will suspect it because
I thought you moved on from us. Be somebody else.
It's a copycat. Yeah, we'd be able to do here.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
We'd be able to figure out the carving, the unsteady
shaky hand.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
A couple of big stories out of the NBA to
get to the first one. Tonight, Hey, you heard Manti
Bolanga was talking about a Chi Gildess Alexander career high
fifty four points for Oklahoma City. Uh, let's be honest.
Right now, we are at the point we've seen enough
of the NBA season. Not a lot changes once you
once you get to hey, you get to like game
(38:57):
fifty issue or so game fifth, fifty fifty five, not
a lot changes. Like maybe the bottom of the standings
will change a little bit, and a team that's tenth
can be seventh, or a team that's seventh can be sixth.
But generally this is kind of what you see the
rest of the way. I can't see anybody but Shi
Gilders Alexander being the NBA MVP this year. I don't
even I don't think that you can't. You can't give
(39:19):
me Yokic. I'd love to give you Karl Anthony Towns,
But I mean we don't talk enough about the Thunder
and they're every bit as good as the as the
Cleveland Cavaliers are. But SGA is leading the league in scoring.
This is his time. If it's anybody but him, I
will be completely surprised. Get that MVP speech ready at
the end, and whoever you want to say is the
(39:39):
real MVP. Get it ready because you're giving it because
I can't see there being anybody else against this award.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Yeah, and I guess, Yannis, if the Bucks make a run,
you can make some argument, but it seems like we
want to we want to move to the next story.
And we've talked about this a lot. Folks can hate
it as they they will, but for Gilgas Alexander, he's
the great story right once upon a time, a Clipper
(40:05):
sixth man, and now he's your scoring leader. And for
what they've been able to do, Okay, see in a
crowded Western conference and without check.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Yeah, I mean there's because you lose it.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
You lose a guy that was supposed to be on
a sending star right alongside him, right, and you haven't
missed a beat.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
And now you're just hoping that he's healthy at some
point because now he's been hurt a couple of times.
What can we get for? Hopefully we can just get
stuff from him. But who else is gonna is gonna
come out of nowhere and say, oh, I'm leading my
team to unbelievable heights. Right, we've seen the Celtics win
the title. Okay, that's great, We've seen it there. They're
the Cavaliers. Can you say it's Donovan Mitchell? Yeah, don
Mitchell's really good. But boy, they're really deep. They lead
(40:43):
the league in scoring. Who's the one different LaMelo can't
give you anything. They only won an eleven games. Who's
the difference maker? It's it's the guy leading the league
in scoring and his team has the best record, and
he's doing it without a guy that was taking number
one overall in the draft. Sga is doing it. I
I really I don't see anybody, and I'd love to
see Big Modega get in there, but it's not gonna happen,
(41:04):
and he's going to win. There's nobody else taking the
Joki is not gonna suddenly get it. He's gonna get
it this year.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
You get you trying to get your big Bodega run
in there. He's probably gonna play enough games, so that's good.
Speaker 1 (41:14):
Yeah. I mean he's at forty played, yeah guy, yeah
eligible yeah oh yeah yeah, well that's a big thing,
you know. You gotta remember, Oh I didn't have the games. Yeah,
the second half TIBs songs still going, the other big
game of the night. Yes, the song is still going.
It'll still be going when we a big story out
of the NF
