Listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hello, Welcome in side hour three The Jason Smith Show
with my bes friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
What's in the bag for shark or something?
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Live from the Tirack dot Com studios. Tyreck dot Com,
I'll help you get there. An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tirec dot com is the way tire buying should be. Well,
we have an NFL audible right now, and this is
the best possible audible you could possibly have. Joining us
now in the hotline for everything you want want to
(01:00):
know going into this weekend AFC and NFC Championship, all
the big coaching hirings NFL on Fox's Jay Glazer. He
joins us now, and Jay, thank you so much. Once again.
I heard you got evacuated from your home again. Everything
okay your.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Family, No, no, no, we didn't get evacuated. Okay, we
lost power again and h so we had to leave. Yeah,
but we we're good. We're great, you know, man, we
are literally across the street. Saw this weekend we got
football games for all the fire firefighters across like up
there in the Zoomer Beach, fifty four hundred of them.
(01:35):
So we I would say, we have the safestaff in
Malibu because there's fifty four hundred firefighters across the street
or whatever. There's this strong wins. They turned power off.
So we got back in to our home. It's Friday,
and then we've our power has been turned off two
or three of the days since. I was like, ah,
(01:56):
we're going back to a hotel. But we're good. Man.
Then we go to Philadelphia tomorrow and uh, they'll get
ready for the championship gym. So I never I never
thought I'd say, man, I can't wait to go to
five degree Philly. I'd rather be there than have my
power turned off my ouse.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Ah, I will.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
As you're getting there now, you're getting righty, you know,
bring a warm coat. Uh, when you take a look
at this team.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Most people don't know that. By the way, my first
college which I got kicked out of the semester and
a half with outside Phillies West Tuster University of Pennsylvania,
and I boxed for them, and I got kicked out
the day boxing season ended for quote unquote discipline or reasons.
But I don't know how that's defined.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
But whatever, Well, is that a story you can tell
or a story you can't tell?
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Well, several things I do wrong?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
So why are they bringing you back for the honorary
degree though?
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Now, Joe, come on, yeah, well I look at it.
I know, Jay, You're already in trouble because I saw
you on Twitter this week. Hey, I'm getting in trouble
for being on Twitter while I'm day drinking with Rosie, Like, yeah,
so I think you're in trouble.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Get on got thing? You know? I I you know,
obviously I reported Kevin O'Connell was there were teams that
were interested in training for them and they weren't. I know,
teams even reached out to the Vikings, and it was
an interesting situation. People suddenly looked at it like, oh uh,
Jay's trying to sabotage. Uh the timing of his report it.
(03:24):
You know, he sabotaged the Vikings by putting it out
the day of the game. I worked at Fox NFL
Sunday and I worked from Fox Envelt Tuesday right talking
about Sunday. So that's what my reports on. And I
also don't work at Twitter, so I put my stuff.
I say stuff for Sunday. Sometimes I say it for
(03:44):
a week, two weeks, sometimes it's two days. And I've
always done a lot that my whole career, because you know,
I'm I'm holding to fans watching Fox talking about Sunday.
A lot more people can see us on Fox, they
are gonna see me on Twitter or somewhere else. And
it's like, I also want to have the best information.
I want people to know if we're watching Fox about Funday,
(04:04):
Gladier's gonna have some bombshell or something that's so inside
nobody else asks. And I did that day, and I
just got the kind of crush front. I'm like, I
did my job. I'm telling you that he is on
a team and with multiple teams, and then people are
like trying to figure out my sources. It's his agent.
One of the day I don't really talk to agents,
and I have always kind of made more of a
(04:25):
habit talking to players and coaches and not agents, So
I don't so I can't get used. You know, I'm
honest with the players and coaches, and I just go
by my job differently than I think a lot of
the other red fodders. And in this case, I had
courage it directly from a handful of teams that hey,
(04:47):
they knew that Kevin was in a situation where he
wasn't happy with what happened was where they're not coming
to the throw shit contract. They still hadn't come to
his contract, so maybe we should take a I can
run at them. And they were smart because it was this.
I do think the report helped kick everybody in the
(05:07):
butt say let's let's make sure these guys always happy
to me and here, and because if they didn't, he
could have just said, listen, I'm not going to resign here.
You might as well get get for me what you can.
And that's all I was reporting was that's what was
going on behind the scenes. My job is to get
people an idea and an inside look of what's going
on behind the scenes. And you know, I woul day
(05:30):
drinking with Rosie saw Get a little.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Busys saboteur is what they tried to call him. He's
Jay Glaizer, Buddy joines each and every week Jay me
being the resident Chicago kid on the network. I gotta
say my eyes were really wide when I got the
notice that Ben Johnson was going to the Bears. How
did this, you know, come to fruition surprise? Dan Campbell,
(05:55):
how does he take it? I mean, what's the fallout here?
Speaker 5 (05:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (05:59):
You know it's interesting. And you know one thing, Dan
Cambell and I talked to me aster, I just you've
got to kind of look into like McVay mavey is
always losing people and he just reloads right, same thing
as a hunter, because you got to be the culture builder.
Now you're assistance. You're the culture builder, and you've got
to coach people how you do it, how you want
it done, your way. And I've had the same talk
(06:19):
with Sean Payton. He gets upset with certain assistance. I'm like, hey, man,
you're the culture builder. Do you go sam how you
want them to coaching on? You knows fire guys like
Dan Campbell who coached Undersell Payton end up being really good.
And you know the other part of this too is
I'm pretty sure Chicago did not expect Betrayed to lose.
(06:41):
So you know, one of the things I know, Like
you know, I've reported the other night a little shocking
news bout Eddie George that he was going to go interview.
But you want to make sure awake. I'm not just
a Rooney rule to comply. And they're like, no, they're
going to interview. You know. I know Brian Flores and
saw the list to bring back, to bring in somebody else.
It wasn't that was their attention. But because they did
(07:03):
Eddie George, they're like, oh, we could jump on this
guy now. And but then they just looked at it.
And you know, the interesting things can be for Ben.
I like Ben. But the interesting interesting thing is Caleb
doesn't just need a guy to come up a really
cool place. Caleb needs a guy to develop them. All right,
I want to see what And I will say that
Ben do a really amazing job with Jared up. It's
(07:27):
not just calling place for Jared. There's other things involved.
A lot of other things. He did such an amazing
job getting I mean Jared's technique is phenomen just getting
the right place for Jared, for him to see things
the right way. Done a great job with it. And I,
like you said, we's pulling together. You know, I think
they're going I know they're going up to darret Rizzi, Big,
(07:49):
Dennis allenal you know, end up being the defensive coordinator.
But you know it'll be really interesting and you know
the finally think of the pressor like why you think
it's the floor before? Like what are you doing here?
And I asked Matt yesterday, like do you know him?
He's like, no, I'm home at all. I'm like, you're
not boys.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
He's like, no, you guys aren't boys.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
No, not at all, dude. So you know I told
you like we have this day drink and day of
the owners. Be like, it's just like me and all
the head coaches. I can't wait for it now.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Oh yeah, hey, you gotta make sure you record a
special episode of the podcast. When that's going on.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Episode of the podcast. You get me down and building
a cager out of it. I'm refereing.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Jay Glazer with Us, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon live from
the tirec dot Com studios. All right now, the other
big opening filled the day ago. And it looks not
often that my Jets do something right. But I think
my favorite quote about Aaron Glenn, because I'm excited about
it and everything he's bringing back, was what you said
about him. I've known AGC and C. He was a
rookie and always played like he wanted to punch you
in the mouth. And I think that's exactly what the
(09:00):
Jets need right now.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Yeah, absolutely so does his defense right. And the thing
about age because he was so undersized and was so
explosive four three five four three three something like that.
He'll probably insulted thure up to him. It's like a
four to two eight or whatever. But he was so explosive,
but he didn't want to be treated but like like
(09:23):
as like a small, fast guy. He wants to be
treated like he's a big physical corner. So that's whe
he played, you know. And Tom Brady and I were
having to talk about it, and Brady's like, man, I
learned that fast about that guy, Like I learned not
to go after him. That's pretty cool. He would say
that about it. This is like earlier in the year
we were talking about a gaim. So he was like,
(09:44):
yeahler Man, I learned earlier, like don't go after that gat.
And because he's a he's gonna he's an act like
he's in a fight. Get like when he's the way
he covers, the way he plays everything, and he just
saw like they were decimated on defense. And to like
halfway through the year, some of his players were like, hey,
(10:05):
we were a bunch of savages, and I'm like, oh
my god, that is music to my ears to have
his players saying coach says, we're savages of an Aaron
and I love that.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
So, Jay, have you been blamed down in Tampa for
Liam Cohen's situations?
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Usually?
Speaker 4 (10:24):
You know, I mean from the Buccaneers fans.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
No, no, no, I wass get to blame though, from
the UH for being the other Blazer Well Manchester.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Night Manchester you yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Sound good. You know, that's that's being with people, not
that came for people.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
But the Liam thing man is a little a little
interesting because actually we're making him. Yesterday it had made
him higest paid offense coordinated to the NFL, and one
day later he goes and does this, and you know,
I I don't know. You can't say this for sure,
but I'm pretty sure. Like Ben Johnson was was like
(11:02):
a lot of a lot of people in the thought
he was gonna go to Jacksonville, but we all knew
he wasn't going to go there. Trent Valkus was there,
and Trent Balcon's the coach killer. Guys, ad he got
four coaches fired or on how do I say this?
So he didn't try to try assume me, but uh,
he got four coaches fires, and uh, the general manager
Dave Calwell, and you know he's part of it. I
(11:24):
should say, he's just he's yeah, he's Uh. You can't
really trust him if you're sitting there going, man, he's
got always all four of these coaches on his watch
room fires and general manager Dave Calwell. So I remember
when they were when they were first saying that they're
going to keep them. People all around the league are like, well,
they just lost out most of their candidates. Says, no
(11:45):
one's going to go there with them. He's a really
good personnel guy, good h but man, there's not a
lot of trust or or like for Trent Valcy in
this league. And guys, you know me, I don't talk
like this normally on the show, but I call it
how it is.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
And when you get.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Four head coaches fired under Watch and one gm hm,
you know, if a walk like a duck sounds like
a duck, I would think that they realized, man, people
are not going to go there. So the Bucks making
the I fade offense coordinator and then they fire Trump Balcon.
Dempster called back said okay, well we'll bring you back
(12:25):
in here and you can bring a personal guy with you.
And that just became too you know, to to to attractive.
The pass up for Liam. And by the way, Liam
is you know, Liam's really good. It's really good coach.
He actually lived with mcveay for a little bit out here,
(12:46):
was that Rosie Rosie three ago two years ago, I
think two three years ago. Yeah, he lived in the
Vey and and uh uh and and really got to
learn under Shaw, like first hand, which is what you
want not fit the office.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
NFL on Fox Insider, Jay Glazer and Rosie the NFL
on Fox Insider.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
Uh now, hey, because it's a baby, there's one, there's
one there real quick. I'm I'm not gonna say what
the story is, but it's pretty bad. And I'm at
Sean's South last year. Now Dave, we're going the quarterback coach.
He stays with Sean this year, right and there, and
like we're doing stuff like draft work and stuff. We're
just sitting there, Rosie sitting by, like, I'm not gonna
say what is We said, Rosie, look this up for
(13:37):
us whatever, And she just looks it up and says
she looks at the three of us and goes, this
is what you freaking guys do on drafts. Exactly what
we do. Like we're gossiping, you know, we're gossiping about
people and stuff, Rosie. Like I thought you guys talking
about college players. No, not at all.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Oh boy, all right, so hey Jay finally here. You know, Hey,
it's been a big week for coaching obviously, and yes
we talked about the Bears and they're big hire for
Ben Johnson. UH on the UH your new podcast on
the Unbreakable Mental Wealth podcast, you have another big hire
by the Bears on this week.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Oh no, it's not a hire. He's been there. Did
he come off somebody else that It came off like like,
actually he just got a hire, he's been there. I thought,
I said, let me see this. I want to make
sure I do this the right way. I said, Uh,
let me just share her huckle Berry, big bigmans. Sorry, Okay, so.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Down the piper on, where's Rosie. Let's get the reel inside.
Where's Rosie? We need we need Rosie. Rosie's got to
help us out.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Here with this, I said. But they have, I said,
they've also had an innovative hire have had and higher
on the staff that most don't know about? That? Did I?
Is that clear enough?
Speaker 1 (14:57):
It's clear? But but I could see where it's like, Hey,
if you you don't know about it means he's kind
of new. So I can see that. But by no,
but you had you had the right punctuation, the right
words and everything, jay right.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Verbic Yeah anyway, ye, but yeah, he is a mental
performance coach. He's a retired colonel from the army.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
He is man and he got me, guys, he has
He got me to open up on this podcast but
stuff I normally don't know what up about and walk
me through it and helped me through it, and I'm like,
and the whole thing.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
He's like, hey, number one, just be one of his
mental performance coach. You got to be a dude, You've
got to get these guys to feel comfortable talk to here.
And you know, I told you guys, there's like, man,
you go to a team training room and strength room.
Between the two of them, you got fifteen you know,
strength coaches, trainers, doctor all that. The NFL you're only
required to have one mental health professional on site three
(15:46):
days a week. The tip to the Bears were smart,
but by making him, you know, higher, I don't know
how long you got hired, but you know, the big
thing is, like he said, whether it's Keenan Allener or
Mercedes Lewis or Caleb Williams, really thing is about getting trust.
And this guy was you know, twenty minute cats meet,
(16:08):
spill in my guts about stuff to a national audience.
I probably I did once with Michael Phelps, but I
don't talk about a lot because something that I'm ashamed
of when I laughs out and how my mental health
issues and really worked me through open There's a lot
of other things also. It's just like, you know, how
he coaches these players, and everybody's different, how he coaches
different people, what he learned in the military, what he
(16:28):
learned through his old struggles. There's a really cool thing.
So I think the Chicago Bearers are smart to have
a guy like this on their staff, and I hope
other teams follow and then I hope they follow up
by not just having won, by having the same amount
that you have for the physical part of it. I
think you need to. I think within the next ten
years they'll have the same amount or you know, mental
coaches as well.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
You can check out the podcast the link on Jay's
Twitter page at Jay Glazer. That is at Jay Glazer
or Unbreakable a Mental Wealth podcast wherever you get your
podcast from Jay. As always, keep find the good fight.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Man.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Thanks, we'll talk to you soon. Appreciate see you, buddy.
So travels, Buddy, begod. Hey, Rosie looked us up for us.
This is what you guys do. Oh yeah, yeah, but
how great is that?
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Hey when was he out here?
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Look she got she got credit for two stories right there,
pam Oh exit up bout a Fresca Exit, Swollen Dome.
Always a great visit with Jake Glaze. We'll go in
the best of that goes up after the show is over,
but coming up next Yes, we'll continue on. You want
that big hot take about the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job.
I got it for you next right here, Jason and
Mike Fox Sports Radio, Hot Hot, So Hot.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Look, I'm gonna do things my way and my terrible.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
You want a big Cowboys hot take? Did they get
really get rid of Mike McCarthy because he wasn't doing
a good job or because he was actually too big
a voice in the locker room and the players loved
him and Jerry had to get rid of him. Well,
with Brian Schottenheimer seemingly at the top of that list,
could be hired any day as the Cowboys head coach,
maybe there's something to that. We'll have more on that
(18:25):
coming up in a second. But what about the next
head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. What about this weekend
ANFC NFC championship game. Let's head to Vegas find out
what the latest is right now from our insider Todd Furman,
former odds maker at Caesars. Check out the Bet the
Board podcast. See him on CBS Todd what's happening, Bud?
How are you man?
Speaker 6 (18:44):
I'm doing well tonight, gentlemen. Hopefully you guys are as well.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
All Right, So since we're talking about you know, we
watched the Jaguars likely filling their head coaching slot now
with Liam Cohen just a couple ones left, We're hearing
reports about the Cowboys and Brian Schottenheimer. Is he the
favorite in Vegas? Is Dion still on the board? Like,
where do things sit now? With Dallas?
Speaker 6 (19:05):
The most odds makers have pulled those numbers off the board.
Earlier this week you saw Dion get into the odds
on territory at minus one oh five at a very
prominent Bookah. Of course, you have to be in certain
jurisdictions to be able to bet into that, And then
you started to see his odds drift a little bit.
But Shohnheimer was never listed as a favorite, and you
can understand why, with probably less than what you'd expect
(19:26):
from a credential standpoint to be a head coach of
a major organization. But if the Cowboys weren't sliding into
mediocrity beforehand, this hiring head coaching position may be the
final straw for America's.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Team as we start to look ahead.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
I mean with these changes, I mean, Jason's over the
moon with this guy, Arned Glenn and obviously the Bears
shoot all all history by hiring Ben Johnson. We're not
deep into futures for twenty five yet, are we.
Speaker 6 (19:56):
No, and neither one of those head coaches until they
prove that they can is necessarily going to move the needle.
I don't want Jets fans to go about booking their
plans for next year's Super Bowl, but I will say
Bears fans have been disappointed before Harmon, and we'll see
if Ben Johnson can be the perfect mix along with
Caleb Williams to get the best out of the former
number one pick in the draft. But Ben Johnson unfortunately
(20:18):
can't bring some of his offensive person almost notably the
offensive line with him from Detroit to Chicago. So it's
going to be a fuller organizational job to make sure
that they can turn that reclamation project around and build
a football team the right way in the trenches on outwards,
all right, Todd.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
So, as we get ready for the games this weekend,
I like you your pin tweet here about the best
bet to make for the NFL Divisional round going forward. Okay,
that's great. Let me ask you about the games this weekend. Now,
all the attention on Jade and Daniels Philadelphia, Jalen Hurts,
his injury situation is a big deal. How do you
see this game? First?
Speaker 6 (20:53):
No, it's pretty wild. People want to buy into Jade
Daniels and you can understand.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
We'll give it.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
What he's done so far, pretty impressive, tracker. It's the
first couple of playoff games, you know, winning out right
as an underdog, not once but twice, already having a
chance to be the first rookie to take his team
to a super Bowl, and you know, since two thousand.
But you look at how those teams have performed in
this game, and it hasn't exactly been good. You're talking
about rookie quarterbacks own four straight up and against the number,
(21:20):
losing by fifteen plus points per game. But Jalen Hurts
injury will be the big storyline. And while he was
listed as a full participant in practice today, you'll wonder
about that mobility and how willing and able he'll be
as a runner, because if he is relegated to being
just a pocket passer, it takes away one of the
more dangerous elements of this Eagles offensive attack. But Saquon
Barkley has been the keikog and we'll see if the
(21:41):
Commanders can sell out to stop the run. But what
I think is fascinating, not just in this game, but
the next game we'll get to is people are really
betting for the storylines that they want to attach themselves to,
and it's part of the reason that the Commanders have
been an overwhelming public underdog already. We'll see if that
betting trend changes up until kickoff on Sunday, and in
the AFC game, a lot of folks coming in surprisingly
(22:03):
betting buffalo thinking that this is going to be the
time that Josh Allen and company finally get that eight
hundred pound guerrilla that has been Patrick Mahomes and the
Chiefs Organization off their back in the postseason?
Speaker 4 (22:13):
Is it also the general public hate that's starting to
come on slopper Patrick Mahomes, that reputation, So you're I.
Speaker 6 (22:22):
Mean, I think it's always part of it. I mean,
people get sick and tired of seeing the same teams
winning over and over again, and so we can point
our fingers with the calls that Kansas City gets, but
it's no different than the Jordan rules. The NBA changed
the way they officiated based on a superstar and Patrick
Mahomes has gone out there and earned the benefit of
the doubt. So does he need a flop to try
and draw an extra fifteen yard penalty here and there?
(22:45):
Absolutely not. But the Chiefs find the gear that most
teams in the league don't have, and there's a reason
they're one step away from getting back to their third
Super Bowl. And they've done it in a variety of
different ways and methodical offense, a big play potential with
a defense that lacked, you know, a upper gear, so
to speak. And we'll see exactly how Kansas City goes
about their business this weekend against the Bills, team whose
(23:06):
numbers they've had in the playoffs, they just haven't been
able to beat in the regular season.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Now, Todda watched me the most up to the minute,
odds that the Chiefs get a really bad call that
goes in their favor that shouldn't have been called. What
are the odds is that even money like what is that.
Speaker 6 (23:21):
I mean, I think given the screeniny the league is
under right now, the Chiefs aren't going to get the
benefit of the doubt on these calls. And all you
want is a game like this is that it gets
officiated fairly both ways and that the better team comes
out with a win. So if it's the Kansas City
Chiefs finding a way through Patrick mahomes drive late in
the game or Josh Allen finally getting the best of them,
I mean, I think that's what all of us as
(23:41):
football fans want to see. And you'd hope that people
can put their bias, their disdain, whatever other adjective you
want to use, jealousy maybe another to describe the Kansas
City Chiefs by the wayside and be able to appreciate
greatness because oftentimes it's gone before our very eyes. And
we saw that a little bit earlier tonight in the
Australian Open. I mean, thirty seven year old Novak Joke
has to retire after the first set, and you don't
(24:02):
appreciate these guys when they're playing at their peaks until
their careers are officially over.
Speaker 4 (24:06):
Todd, can I hit the rewind button the last weekend
real quick? Between the divisional games and the college title game,
a lot of lamentation over television ratings. How did that
work out for the Vegas Handles? Were we still robust
and doing heavy action?
Speaker 2 (24:22):
Tremendous?
Speaker 6 (24:22):
I mean, football is king. It is what these sports
books and these operators are looking for. So the more
standalone football games you get, whether they're of the pro
or the college variety, harm that's what fully moves the needle.
Books were thrilled with the handle that they saw in
the NFL games and carried that through into Monday Night football,
so to speak, with Ohio State and Notre Dame, with
two blue blood programs doing battle on such a large stage,
(24:45):
and for the book, they were even more excited that
the Detroit Lions not only failed to cover, but lost
out right on Saturday night, sure pulling up a lot
of the teasers, money line parlays, and even some of
the straight bets along with Super Bowl liability that were
around the Honolulu Blues as they were picked by a
lot of people, you know, going all the way back
into April and may to be able to get over
the hump and finally win that elusive first Super Bowl
(25:05):
in franchise history.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
And my family would tell me, good for you for
knowing it's Honolulu blue. All right. Now, Now, lastly, let's
say there are.
Speaker 6 (25:11):
Very different shades of blue. I mean there's midnight blue,
there's royal blue, there's Honolulu blue. Yeah, you know what, Smith,
I think this is the NFL's way, or the NFL
God's way of punishing the Detroit Lions for wearing those
blashamouth uniform combinations we saw multiple times this season. Instead
of sticking with the iconic true roots that most fans
had to suffer through through the Scott Mitchell era and
(25:33):
a variety of other quarterbacks, you should remain nameless.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Hey, I got news for you, dude. They sell Honolulu
blue kool aid in Detroit like it's like the most
popular flavor yet, Honolulu blue.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
What is it?
Speaker 6 (25:44):
How different does Honolulu blue kool aid look from like
a traditional blue raspberry. I think that's what most of
the people really want to know. Without a full visual representation.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Toddol aid, Kooli, it's probably the same thing. What are
you doing? Kooli needs to move merchandise, Tod, Come on.
Speaker 6 (26:00):
Look, someone's got to spoil the party one way or another.
The same way that you're gonna tell me, Florida State's
going to start selling Garnet kool Aid, and we're going
to get Scarlett kool Aid and Columbus and somehow none
of us, the three of us just talking amongst as
friends here, aren't going to get any residuals as kool
Aid decides to go into various college campuses and market
their new colors and tastes accordingly.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
All right, well let's finish here. You talked about the
national championship game on Monday night, Ohio State, Notre Dame.
Right after the game was over, we saw the teams
that were the favorites for making the playoff next year.
Who's the favorite so far right now? Who's the team
that's seeing the most action, has the best odds right
now for the winning the national title next season?
Speaker 6 (26:40):
You have five teams that are priced right now in
the single digits. And I don't think any of these
programs are surprise folks. Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Georgia, Penn State,
all teams listed with the shortest odds on the board.
Notre Dame hovering in that twelve to fifteen to one range,
along with some of the perennial ac SEC powers, excuse me, Tennessee, Alabama, LSU,
Ole Miss in the mix. Clemson has been an interesting team.
(27:01):
They've actually taken a little bit of money at longer
prices that are currently available from some professional betters. They
were priced in that thirty to thirty five to one range.
But when you look at the acc from top to bottom,
Clemson's willingness to go out there and bring in a
couple of transfers to bolster that offense that I'll have
a veteran quarterback in Clague Club Nick, you can understand,
you know why their price has been bet into the
high teens. But the one common denominator for all of
(27:23):
these programs right now with relatively short odds, Penn State
and Georgia probably the outliers. Oregon, Ohio State and Texas
still very much have to make sure that they have
their franchise quarterbacks. Don't tell that to the folks wearing
burnt orange that are already to annoint arch Manning the
next Texas great and give him the Heisman where he's
listed as the second favorite right now, behind only Garrett
Nutsmeyer LSU.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
He's on Twitter at Todd Furman that is at Todd Furman.
Check them out bet the Board podcast. The link is
right there on social media. Just put it out earlier today.
See them on CBS. Todd enjoyed the games this weekend. Man,
We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 6 (27:57):
Always a pleasure, gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
You guys do the same Todd fan like.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
He just rattles that stuff off his hobby. Oh yeah,
these five teams here there, odds all all the time.
Doesn't know what we're gonna ask the guys. Mind is
a machine, man, It's an absolute machine.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
He's a damn wizard. Why he's been a longtime friend
of the show. We go best in brand. I mean
we go from Jay Glazer to Todd Furman. I mean
we're loaded, man.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
We're blessed time now to find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports. I'm someone who blesses us
with her presence every single night. It's Monte Belagno. She's
got what's trending.
Speaker 7 (28:30):
And you're welcome, and you're very welcome for blessing. Thank
you every night.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
The Clippers are blessing me with a win tonight, you guys.
Speaker 7 (28:37):
They're beating the Wizards ninety five to eighty three halfway through.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
The fourth quarter.
Speaker 7 (28:42):
James Harden seventeen points, eleven rebounds, ten assists on another
double double or triple double, excuse me. In today's and
B A layout, the Warriors had a one thirty one
to one oh six win over the Bulls. They pulled
away in the second half Steph Curry twenty one points,
seven assists. The Lakers blew out the Celtics on teen
to ninety six. Lebron James twenty points and fourteen rebounds.
(29:03):
Bronni James got to go into the game for four minutes.
He took a shot, didn't make it, but he was
in there. The Mavericks outscorre the Thunder one twenty one
to one fifteen. The Bucks crushed the Heat won twenty
five to ninety five, and the Nuggets held on to
beat the Kings one thirty two to one twenty three.
Nikol Lejokic another triple double thirty five points, twenty two rebounds,
and seventeen assists. It's the second ever thirty five twenty
(29:25):
and fifteen game in NBA history.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
Will Chamberlain dropped the first.
Speaker 7 (29:29):
One back in nineteen sixty eight.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
I'm joking nineteen sixty I'm good, all right, ninety sixty
eight at the Australian Open.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
This just happened.
Speaker 7 (29:38):
Yeah, Novak Djokovic withdrew after losing the first set of
a seven semifinal match against Alexander Zvedev.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
He's been dealing with a leg injury.
Speaker 7 (29:48):
That first set lasted an hour and twenty minutes, and
he withdrew. On the women's side, American Madison Keys is
advance scene to the women's final at the Australian Open.
In golf, the twenty t twenty seven Open Championship will
be held at Saint Andrew's. And Yes, in the NFL,
it seems as though everyone is reporting that Buccaneers offensive
(30:09):
coordinator Liam Cohen has informed Tampa Bay that he has
agreed to become the jaguars next head coach.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Back to you guys, thanks a bunch of monsters. This

drink some water a little bit. We gonna do that.
I'm gonna do that, and you know I I you know,
that's honestly, that's happened to me a couple of times.
(30:38):
I mean in my career, Like I can remember like
three or four times where I'm just talking and all
of a sudden, I just go kid, and now it
just happens, like is it age? Like I'm just like,
oh yeah, it's just like I don't I didn't even
do anything. I look at at coffee. Yeah, And it
says a sure sign you are. You are aging more
rapidly than you think. Is coughing at the end of
(30:58):
sentences Like literally, I'm just I'm dying. Yeah, outside, drink
water and take deep breaths. That's kind of how we're

friend Mike Harmon. We're live the Tirac dot Com studios.
And thanks to Jay Glazer for stopping by with us
earlier this hour all his thoughts on Aaron Glenn, Ben Johnson.
Let's get to the Dallas Cowboys, shall we, because earlier
today there was a port from Clarence Hill, Who's Cowboys Insider,
(33:14):
that says the Cowboys announcement of who their next head
coaches is coming in the next day or so, that
potentially by Saturday, we will find out that Brian Schottenheimer
is going to be named the next head coach of
the Dallas Cowboys. And this is this is this is
just so disheartening for Cowboys fan. It's so disheartening that, Okay,
(33:35):
we fired Mike McCarthy, who we liked, and yes, we
had a bad year this year, This is where it's
not Dion, it's not, but it's not. It's it's Brian Schottenheimer,
a guy that nobody else wanted to talk to about
their head coaching openings. Now, according to reports, it's down
to Schottenheimer and Kellen Moore, two guys that nobody wanted
to talk to all the openings. The the most bottom
(33:58):
feet are teams the Jets talk to like twenty five
people the Bears talked to like forty, none of them
called Kellen Moore or Brian Schottenneiber And these are the
guys who is coming down to to be the head
coach the Dallas Cowboys. That's just depressing, man, That just
that really is. That's tough. That's a tough one.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
I mean, look, you you couldn't even get Liam Cohen
there instead of him heading.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
Down to Jacksonville.
Speaker 4 (34:20):
Shit, we mean, at least Jerry's like its own you know,
that stadium is big enough, like it's its own little country.
So you could have at least said, hey, sel reception,
here's a problem versus what's going on in that. But yeah,
the shot Niber was in the building, so maybe he
grew to like him.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
If you need me to fire Steve and I'm not
doing it. Okay, just so you know, I'm not Shad Khan,
not gonna I can just fire the guy because he
could come here. But let me let me turn this
on its head for a second and give you a
hot take that really it makes sense when you're trying
to see what are the cowboys doing?
Speaker 3 (34:53):
Right?
Speaker 1 (34:54):
So the cowboys have waited, right, they had a little
bit of flirtation with Deon Sanders, didn't go anywhere. Who
have they really talked to? Nobody? They did? They talked?
And did they really try to go after Ben Johnson?
They try to go after someone? Yes, there's not that many,
there's not that many great candidates out there, but Ben Johnson,
Mike Rabel, these guys were just what, well, how if
you're not if you're Jerry Jones, you're not try to
talk to these how do you not try to do that?
(35:16):
And he's sitting there and now you're hearing it's it's
Shottenheimer or it's gonna be Kellen Moore And you see
the big debate thrown out there. Does Jerry Johnson want
to coach? Does he want a puppet? Jerry Jones want
to want a coach. Does he want a puppet right here?
Coach puppet? Coach puppet. And when you think about it
from this perspective, it makes you know the Schottenheimer thing
(35:37):
and Kellen Moore becomes understandable. Was Mike McCarthy fired because
the Cowboys didn't achieve?
Speaker 3 (35:45):
Right?
Speaker 1 (35:45):
That a bad year this year, obviously, but McCarthy had
won twelve games in the year, three years in a row. Again,
not his fault. Dak Prescott stunk in the playoffs, not
his fault. Dak Prescott got hurt this year, So yeah,
you're not gonna win. When your quarterback gets hurt, he's
out for the season. Winning becomes really, really difficult. It's
not just next Hey, next quarterback up, we'll win. Just
(36:05):
ask the Jets when Zach Wilson had to play, right. So,
knowing that, right, what happened the rest of this season.
The Cowboys played hard, they didn't quit, they didn't just
say and every game was forty eight to ten. They
won a lot of games. They got to a point
with about five or six weeks left where they were
only like a game out of the wild card. Cooper
Rush played well, the team didn't quit, and when Mike
(36:27):
McCarthy got fired. What did you see? Dak Prescott was
upset and Micah Parsons was upset. This is your offensive
and defensive leader saying how upset they were that Mike
McCarthy got fired. So let me ask you this question again.
Did Mike McCarthy get fired because he didn't win and
didn't win this year? Or did he get fired because
(36:48):
as this year unfolded and they didn't win, not only
did he not lose the team, but he seemed to
have more loyalty for the players to him than you
would expect. And did Jerry Jones fire him because his
voice was getting too big? His voice is getting too
big in the organization. The players loved him even after
a losing year. They didn't quit. Maybe that means less
(37:11):
voice for Jerry, less things that he's able to go
through and I can't. So I'm gonna make this change now,
and I'm gonna bring somebody in that doesn't quite have
the voice that is still gonna be sort of under
my thumb. And yeah, then it's the puppet part of it,
because that makes complete sense. I'm not saying I agree
with it, but it makes sense in Jerry Jones World,
where Hey, I don't like the fact the head coach
(37:32):
is getting too powerful, because what's happened when Jimmy Johnson
got too powerful? Gone, I'm bringing Barry Switzer, Bill Parcell's
getting too powerful, gone, somebody else coming in. And it's
all been lower names since then. It's not been a
big hot name. It's not been someone who we It's
all been someone that Jerry Jones can control. And when
you understand that, you think of why Mike McCarthy got fired,
(37:52):
not because he didn't lose. It's because in the losing
season he had a lot of support in that locker
room and his voice was getting too loud, and that's
why we didn't get his contract. We didn't renew it
and we let him go to move on because his
voice was getting too powerful. Well, that's just it.
Speaker 4 (38:07):
They fixed the glitch and now they have the opportunity
of taking a guy that was there, or bringing an
old friend back and with shot and Iber, maybe he's
the trojan horse. Maybe it's really all the support of
what he was doing, and Mike McCarthy was hogging all
the glory. Was the guy they were playing knowing that
(38:31):
it wasn't gonna be remedied with McCarthy. Look, we're now
we're just throwing up random theories and trying to get
inside the mind of Jerry Jones.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Isn't it fun if that If that was the case,
because again it's Jerry Jones, you can't dismiss anything, right,
this could happen.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Well, this guy's gonna be a puppet. But wait, they
won if he was calling the plays as oc.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
But if so, if he got let go right, if
McCarthy got like you, you wouldn't have Dak say anything.
You wouldn't have Micah Parson saying anything. You wouldn't have
had them playing hard for Mike McCarthy because they would
have wanted them out. Why am I going crazy? But
they played hard for the guy, right, And that always
shows you what the players think of a coach, is Hey,
if they don't quit, if they play hard, your message
(39:15):
is still getting through. And when you're losing, hey, maybe
that that's that could be something that galvanizes you and
brings you together more than winning does. Hey, we got
coaches back. He's got our back during the losing. Now
next year, watch out. And now McCarthy's gonna say I
want this. I want this, I want this. The players
are gonna say, I want this. Oh no, no, no,
everything is getting too powerful, just like Tim Robbinson silo.
(39:37):
Wait a minute, we're gonna have a revolution. I gotta
make sure the revolution doesn't happen. Anybody who goes outside
to clean dies. You go outside to clean. I sent
Mike McCarthy out to clean. I sent him out with
Rebecca Ferguson, and he took off. And you know, they're
good mechanical. They got the good tape to go around
everybody's hands and everything. So maybe that's what hey too powerful,
gotta make sure I got gotta tamp down the revolution.
(39:58):
So this is what happened. I really it makes sense
when you think about it from that perspective.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
Sure, And but you know Mike McCarthy like he got
love and he got his support, you know, unlike you
know eber Flus in Chicago before he got fired, where
everybody picked up a microphone. We need a leader, we
need something, help, help, and started speaking in code to
try to get people in the local media and fans
to rise up.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
To the mccaskey's.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
But here, you know, you got a lot of love,
like right, at the end, and then when we started
doing all the comparisons between McCarthy's blind resume to all
the other coaches that seemingly have the long standing love
and support of everyone, it's pretty fun.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
Exit abya Fresca exit swallendull boy, that's a big hot
take for the Dallas guy like it. Coming up next?
How about this what NFL playoff team is ready to
move on from their high profile quarterback? I said high profile,
high profile. That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox
Sports Radio,
