Listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight, the Jason Smith Show
with my bas friend Mike Harmon, live from the Tirack
dot Com studios. Tirac dot com. I hope you get there.
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack dot com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, it's been thirty
(00:57):
six hours or give or take a few. See hey,
ten o'clock, you know maybe maybe maybe more like forty
two forty three hours. I should probably call a doctor.
Then you should you should have spent Well, that's the
last time ty shirt ate was forty eight hours ago.
I think so I just cleared his mind. Okay, all right,
very good. Yeah, having eight calories in six days. That's
(01:17):
super healthy for your body. Yeah, and it's super healthy.
It is because you read somebody wrote about that on
the internet. No, I don't need to read anything. I
don't read anything.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
He did. He make a good shake today, though.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
I did, you know what? You know, I did a
T shirt today, You know I did, But I can't.
When I came in tonight, he know how ty shirt.
He tries to take over the kitchen with his you know,
making his stuff. So he's got his blender out, his
two bananas and other stuff. And I walked in and
I could tell, Okay, he's waiting until we go to
what's trending, until the odd couple goes to what's trending,
then he's gonna come make his food. So I moved
(01:50):
everything like I moved. I moved his bag of stuff
all the way to the side. I moved the uh,
the the blender, I moved the two bananas everywhere. So
he gets like, hey, Jason, what's up? And go hey,
And I can tell he's walking into the kitchen. So
I give it like thirty seconds and I'm like, okay,
let's see. So I walk in and I see him.
He just goes you're a blike, by the way, you're
a bike, Jason.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Because he added in a proper order. He knew.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
I was just fearful that it that it had changed
the way it comes together.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
I just said, you're lucky. I moved the places you
could find it, like I could have been really difficult
with it. Moved the bananas, like into the bathroom or something.
Or no. I put it where he could see him.
Just wait what I did with my key to his car, Mike,
I gave you.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
I gave you.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
I gave you a C version of the Jason Smith treeton. Wow, Wow,
you got your car key. He just he just said
it's a C version when he pressed a button and
put something on there. He wasn't supposed to know.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I put it up.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Probably I don't watch just in nup days.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
He can do whatever he wants. He doesn't want to know.
So you know, not not to get to you'll mess
with the wizard.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Not to get too maudlin, not to get too malty
on you at this. But you know again, it's been
two days basically since the Luca a d Trade, and
it's been a two days full of all kinds of
energy and excitement and We're still gonna be breaking this down.
It's a story that's gonna go all week. We don't
really need the super Bowl talk the next few nights
(03:18):
because we have this. We go do this right out
of the game on Sunday. But like, this is this
is why I love sports, that that energy level of
oh my goodness, look at this crazy ass story. Is
it real? It's real. I started calling everybody Saturday night
like I had a kid. Hey, I guess what I
got a kid. You have a granddaughter. You have a
you have a you have a grand niece, you have this,
(03:39):
you have this guy I called you. I called Frostberg.
I'm like, I gid this trade. It's actually happened. It's real.
It's Luca for a D and a couple of friends
called it was at the traders and as some other players,
well who would else? I go, nobody that matters. It's
Luca for a D. There was first round pick and
there was a couple of guys. It doesn't matter. It's
Luca for a D. I mean, the excitement level on it,
(04:01):
it just you could feel it. You could feel it
through the city. I could feel it everywhere I was
driving to pick up my daughter when the trade broke
from a friend's party and I'm driving and all of
a sudden, down the street and this is just you
know suburbs, you know, here in LA. And I'm driving,
I'm listening to the radio and people are texting. I'm
going back and forth with them, and I'm not texting
and driving, but people, I'm just saying. People are texting,
(04:23):
and cars are going by and their windows are rolled down,
and people are yelling out the window, the yelling Luca.
They're beeping their horns as they're going, and it's almost
like it's either New Year's even the clock strikes midnight,
you're on the road and people are beeping their horns,
or the Lakers just won the title and people are
listening in their cars going somewhere like that was the way.
That was how exciting this was. And I haven't seen
(04:45):
that sort of I haven't seen that sort of reaction,
that extreme reaction here in LA for a long time.
Even when the Dodgers won the World Series, you know,
I didn't see that kind of reaction. This was just
one of those can you believe it happened? It's this
incredible trade because look, l A is a basketball and
baseball town, and it's really a Lakers town now because
of the where we are in the season and and
(05:07):
to me and this trade going down, here's a top
five player coming to the Lakers and all the hope
and the thinking that that we can be great now.
I mean, the electricity went through the whole city. It was.
It was just some kind of night. I felt like
I was just riding a wave, you know, going through
this thing.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Well, you had people lining up around the block to
get into Dodger Fest and hang out and listen to
David Vasse talked all the luminaries as they showed up, Uh,
stand in line, maybe get a photo, maybe find an autograph,
whatever the case is. And then he immediately get into
Lakers Nicks. I gotta put the game in there. Uh
you know much of a game.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Look, it looks yes, you want the game became I think, Uh,
I'm pretty sure. Brown just got another standing out in
the garden. Short Max Christy was still in his uniform
and they told him he was traded. Okay, you got
a time bye bye. Yeah you didn't know. You didn't
have a lot of time to this was as soon
as the game and bye Bye. I was like, oh Man,
(06:03):
Frostberg and I are texting right after the game is
always like you're gonna wear this on Monday? Smith, Oh
we won him, Like Monday is gonna suck. And then
the trade happened and it wasn't my first thought. Maybe
my second thought was, Oh, this game is irrelevant. Now
I have to worry about it. You're not gonna talk
about this game at all, but think about it.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
You know, you do a jersey swap or the kid
asked for it, and you say, yeah, here, and then
you realize you've now been dealton. It's the last one
in a Laker union. I'm like, hey, I need that
jersey back. Hey, hey, I want that for posterity.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Give me that jersey back.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
But you know, I made some notes from my Fox
Football Sunday show with Bucky and Andy, and I was
taking my nap. I had an alarm set. All of
a sudden, I got this guy calling me, Hey, Hey,
I called you told you as if you Suddenly you
were in that coffee shop and you overheard it.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
You had a break up.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
At one table, and these guys consummenting consummating a trade
at the other.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Wow, you were I'm glad you they're consummating a trade.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Okay, good, all right, Well people could use their imaginations.
It's a coffee shop. It's a good place to be bid.
Table people were breaking up. The other said table people
were consummating a trade, a trade of ideas, in this
case commodities on a basketball squad.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
But yeah, just a crazy night.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
I immediately looked to the best baromerater that we can
have as to what season we're in. I wanted to
go out and drive the freeways. I did not because
I was tired, and I said, to hell with this,
I'll be up at three point thirty to go do
that in the morning. Is we got to see where
the car flag sales are because right now on Amazon,
if you're a fan of Rico Industries, you better get
(07:39):
your order in because now they're starting to get back logged. Uh.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
You know, it's funny when the trade happened, right and
there was that big you know, because the first thing
you said to me was it's real, it's real, Right,
I said, yes, it's real, it's it's at you know.
I saw you know, Sham's had it. And then Dan Wiki,
who we have on the show all the time Lakers insider,
he said, yes, it's real. Yes, the trade's real. The
trade is real. And for a few minutes, I don't
think anybody thought it was real because it's just such
(08:05):
an out of the blue thing. Superstars like this don't
get traded for one another. But Shams had it on
his Twitter account he said, I know people think this
is but it's not. This is real. Here's the trade.
The Lakers are doing. This are the making this trade
for for for Ad for for Luca. And still people
thought it was it wasn't real now and I thought
about this about how how insiders can guard against this
(08:28):
for the future, and I and and and because I'm
saying what would have made people get it right away?
Because what what I think what pushed it was that
Shams had this tweet and everybody's still wondering if it's
real and it's getting all this attention. And then ESPN,
which they right away they said, yes, this is this.
This happened like the like the fact when ESPN came
up and supported that it was okay, this happened. Now
(08:50):
we we know, we know it's true because ESPN has
confirmed it. Right, we had somebody confirming it here were
shams doing it on his own personal Twitter, which okay,
that's how it goes for insiders, but hey, when the
entity confirms it as well, doing it really fast, you know, okay,
the trade is real. But what what made it to
when I thought, you know, if insiders did this, when
something shocking happens, there will be a very few people
(09:14):
who believe it's fake. Is if you recorded the trade
as well, Like if you said, hey, if he put
out a tweet that said Laker's trade Luca Donsig for
Anthony Davis and and you put it out and then
you attach a video that you talking about it like
that sham saying, hey, this just happened right now, Lakers
(09:35):
just trade. Here's the trade in full. It's a d
and they're also trading away Max Christy in a first
round pick, and there's three teams involved. Like, if you
take video of yourself saying it and it's on your
Twitter account, then I don't think anybody's gonna say, oh,
it could be AI doing I mean, okay, so someone
hacked the Twitter account and had AI put it and
it looks perfect. I think if you put if if
(09:57):
insiders put video up, that would be the extra level
of protection of Oh, I understand that that this is real.
This is not a fake thing someone had their Twitter
hacked or or it's a fake account that that got
put up there like that would do it if you
put video.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Up well like that, except we've seen ai Jerry Jones,
and I mean, you just don't know what's real what's imagined.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
It goes to do it.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
My way is blank and terrible. No, But I mean
you have the double layer of here's the tweet and
the video and.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Here he is holding up his watch and then now
he's showing you as an expensive watch collection. He's got
his phone up with the time stand. Sure it's got
the calendar behind him. Maybe he's got what's on TV.
Look I'm watching and right here look there Stanos Stanos no, uh,
And we go from there.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
If if this was a deal that happened, and the
fact that it happened right after the Knicks game, right
the Lakers beat the Knicks, and the trade happens, and
it's late on a Saturday night. If this is a
daytime thing, it gets vetted a little bit more before
it goes out there. But the fact that it's after
a game it happened. If we don't go on with
(11:06):
this now, it's it's you know, we're gonna get scooped
on it. Someone's gonna say, someone's gonna announce it. So
I get the rushed part of it. I mean, I
understand the rush part of it too. That a little
bit of that, but that was all you.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Had the audience coming off of Nix Lakers, but that
was Lakers win. Lebron went another win at the garden.
People are paying attention to you before they flip the
calendar to you know, Super Bowl press day.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Yeah, And I think, and that's why I think I
started calling people because I knew it was real. Once
once I got with Waki and Wake said no, it's really,
I was like, okay, and I called you. I called Frostburg.
I called Frostburg three times, and and I texted him
pick up your phone. And I even texted his wife, Hey,
tell Justin to call me. Oh my god, I got
huge news. Nothing nothing from Frostburg. You really think I
(11:52):
was gonna bring up your call reach since we got
Luka Doncic so you knew the Lakers. You knew. You
thought I was letting you into the party. So I
called you and texted you like four minutes after that
thing brought so you knew. So you knew right away?
Then you knew right away. I told sure. Now, I'm
(12:12):
just not gonna call you when I know something great.
I'm gonna let you be upset about whatever it is
you're upset about and not be happy. I didn't you
find things could top the mount of some square garden
party that I was in, and then that happened. There's
no way you were getting a hold of me.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
You and are you going to try to take them
out of that euphoria? No?
Speaker 1 (12:29):
No, no, no, no, no, wait, you're through the story the average.
You texted me during the game when the Lakers, you
had no problem. Text me while the Lakers are beating
the Days a dominant game, you had no problem. But
then after when I have good news for you, Oh no, no, now,
now already need good news. You can't celebrate it with me.
(12:50):
I'm calling to give you good news. I'm calling to
give you incredible news.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
See now, you're a you're an evangelist.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
I was. I'm out there.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
I'm bringing you the good news. It's a book written
by Jesus.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
You want to change it's something you will never experience.
I couldn't let you in. Of course I'll experience. You
will never have a generational player ever signed with one
of your team. It's fine. We got Brunson, we got
you got Aaron Rodgers when he was a garbage man. Hey,
we still have him. Okay, just so you know, we
still have him.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
He's not going and he's still the garbage man.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
He'll have him. We still have him going anywhere. I'll
never get a Luca Doncic. Did my cat Jordan did?
Speaker 3 (13:32):
All right?
Speaker 1 (13:32):
I had nothing I have. Sodo hasn't played. I know
he hasn't played a second for the matship, but I
have Sodo yan yay. Did you know that Luca lived
here in the good old you know? I say, uh,
all right, for so from now from when I find something,
I'll let you find stuff out by yourself. Now, I'm
(13:54):
not gonna call. I mean, if it's like a related
most likely already know. Okay, I'm not. I almost called
Tyshirt to tell, but then I realized, oh, he's not
going to know who either of these players are. So
then I would never pick up if you really really yeah,
really okay, Okay, people to fire Alex Power. Great, Yeah, absolutely,
I actually do. Yeah, you have that power. I'm the first. Yeah,
(14:17):
well you don't. You don't know who else I've had.
I've fired here on the show the last the last
few years. You have no idea. I do know, Oh
you did? Who Who's Who's the first person. I'll bring
Joel back then I've not come on. Oh that that's
that's sad, that's dirty. Should be fired. You went over
the line and way over the line. You went way
over the line. Exit. How about a Fresca exit? Swollen

This is more than a game.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Be there.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon.
You know, for a second, Harmon, I thought I found
something that was actually longer than Oppenheimer.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Really.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Yeah, So for the last couple hours, Frostberg and Tyshert
have had the Tom Green documentary on Netflix, somethay about
his life and career. It's been going on for a while. Hell,
and then I go in to talk to him a
couple minutes ago, and I still go, this thing is
still on. This is like three no, no, no, no.
They put a movie on. After they put on. Freddy
got fingered like, oh, Oky, like this is this is
(17:12):
longer than this is longer than The Irishman. Oh my goodness,
I can't believe this.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
See I just watched the end of The Irishman a
little earlier, and now we were into the rest of
the post basketball night.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
You started watching it in New York, then.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Getta get a good horn section behind you there, so
sting any way, chasing cars. I thought that was what
was prompting you, because at our house, that means something
bad's about to happen in the TV or TV show
or movie you're watching.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Ah, because that was the go to.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
On Gray's Anatomy for a couple of years.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Oh car Chase.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Yeah, they must have spent just a truckload of money on.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
The rights to that.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
So any opportunity where there was a crossroads for a
character or something terrible that was coming into the plot,
all of a sudden, you'd hear the opening trains like, no,
not him.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Jason, this movie is way too smart for you, don't
be Yeah it is. It is way too smart. It is.
I mean, I I don't know which one was Freddy?
And and and and and which of his fingers is
the is the main?
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Freddy was the moose? Freddy was okay? Okay? And and
and what Tom Green's fingers is that? What it is? Okay?
I want to make sure I've seen it once. I've
seen it once. I love Freddy hated the fingers all right,
Just so you know that that's that's That's how the
movie break down for me. You just got to get
inside the animal, Jason. You know, Hanna Barbara can go
(18:40):
blank themselves, all right. So look, with the Luca trade
to the Lakers, it can be an incredible trade, right
there is obviously there's no reason to not be incredibly
excited about this, but there is a warning and I'm
wanting the look. And it doesn't need to be It's
not doesn't need to be slam dunk. It might not
(19:01):
be a slam dunk because you think about the trade
for this, right, Yes, the Lakers got Luka Dancic, top
five player in the NBA. Okay, great in a vacuum, awesome? Right, Yes,
I had to trade ad to get him, all right,
I get it. But you traded for a guy who
was traded by a team that knows him better than anyone.
(19:25):
Nobody knows Luka Doncic NBA star, better than the Dallas Mavericks,
and they were not okay with trading him. They were
okay with trading him now at the deadline, not even
a year after he led them to the NBA Finals.
So that tells me. And look I talked about this
Saturday when I put this video up and then Charles
Barkley gets talked about today. Congratulations Charles. Is that this
(19:47):
tells me that, hey, the Mavericks were sick of him,
they wanted him out, they were ready to move on,
and they traded him away. They know him better than anybody,
and they were okay making this trade knowing full well
they were gonna get ripped for it. How do you
trade a guy who's twenty six away? Even they announced
the trade late Saturday night to kind of, you know,
(20:09):
tamp down of the the upset when you know, Mavericks
fans woke up on Sunday morning going, we traded Luca
What the hell?
Speaker 4 (20:16):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (20:16):
So there's something to be wary about that because in
the because in the end, you the Lakers traded a
d who is a top ten player in the NBA,
but a guy that's thirty one and he has injury issues. Okay,
but you got okay, but he was still Look, he's
really you know, he's still a fantastic player. You traded
him for a guy who's twenty six, one of the
(20:37):
top five players in the league, that has an issue
with conditioning and staying in the lineup. And now that
he's getting older. When you hit your late twenties, you
kind of have to condition, You kind of have to
make sure that your health is the best and and
you can stay in the lineup. You know. I vividly
remember Kobe Bryant when he was like twenty eight or so,
like twenty eight, twenty nine, and he did an interview
(20:59):
with I. It might have been Dan Patrick, I forget
who it was, but he did an interview on Fox
and he said, he said, you know, the last bullet
I have to fire in my career now is a diet,
which I have not done that yet, but it's part
of it. And look, obviously Kobe had a plan to
extend his career the longest he can, and he knew
at some point, okay, I have to get to a
(21:20):
point where I need to I need my diet to
be as best as tend now. Kobe was never being overweight.
He's never liked Luca where Luca got up to two
sixty earlier this year, but he knew, hey, I know
I have to do this. Kobe did it and had
an incredible last few years and won three more titles
with the Lakers. It was and it was amazing but
remember that this is this is the Luca. You're getting
(21:40):
a guy that's in and out of the lineup that
maybe is not taking care of himself, that the Mavericks
couldn't get him to take care of himself. So yeah,
it's a bit of a risk. Is this is this
gonna work? Yes? You think him and Lebron are gonna work. Hey,
you thought him and Ad were going to work the
last four years and after the bubble happened, it didn't work.
You want to think that, hey, KD is gonna work
with with James Harden. Guess what, it didn't work. Kyd's
(22:02):
gonna work with the Sons and Booker it. No, it
didn't work. You think, oh, Damian Lillard's gonna work when
he goes with the Honest Now, no it doesn't. It
didn't work. Right, Not every superstar pairing works. And it's
not that Lucas not talented or the meshing. But when
a team that again that knows him more than anybody,
says we're ready to divorce you, ready to move on
from you. It's not suddenly that, hey, you're fleecing the
(22:24):
other team and you're not giving anything up. There's something
that Mavericks know about him that they were comfortable making this.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
Move on well, and that's where it gets into all
the conspiratorial stuff of you know, what's the other shoe
to drop, because just saying the guy's playing a little overweight,
maybe a lot overweight, you know, take take your take
your line. Uh, he played at a ridiculous level and
a lot of minutes and taking on a lot of
double teams, many a weary moment. Just you know, the
(22:51):
stuff that I'm echoing some of what his dad had
to say, and you know his incredulity of it all.
But it's that point of all, right, what else goes
along with that in terms of behavior, attitude, everything else,
you know, the untouchable side of it, you know, to
where you're not able to get through to him, whether
(23:12):
it's the coaching staff, the training staff, getting himself through
his rehabilitation spots to get back up on the court
right once he played twenty two games this year, right
after a magnificent run last year and all these top
all NBA performances in the body of work is tremendous
to this point.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
But when you.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
Do have this type of a drastic move, even if
you're bringing back Anthony Davis. Even if you sell me
all you want and sell yourself staring in the mirror,
I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and defense wins championship,
that there's something more to the tail. It's not just
as simple as good asset for good asset, Okay, cool,
(23:55):
let's go. It leads us in our way and our nature.
I think part of it the reality TV shows, the movies,
the books you're reading. I got to get your book
reading in to show you how you know America literate
and brilliant.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
We are on multiple levels here.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
It's we're just led to believe there's got to be
there's got to be something more right. The the correct
answer isn't always the simplest, even though you might try
to sell me on that.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Well, I mean that is part of it. If we're
putting up a giant pie.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Tricks stupid dummies, we have to.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Decide dummies frustrated the unknown. I don't want to pay
him three hundred and fifty million dollars because they realize
that it won't work going forward with the assets that
they have or that which they intend to bring in.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
All Right, it's a whole.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Organizational shift new ownership and and processes means new results
and a change of pace.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
I mean, look the the whole thing with with the
Mavericks and and this trade and the Lakers taking on
a risk with this because they are right I said,
it's a look the guy, you're hoping that he winds
up standing up. That's a hope you'll take exactly, because
for the Lakers now to look at it from this perspective,
because while there's reason to be concerned, you think about
(25:17):
the excitement. Yeah, they knew this wasn't going anywhere with
Lebron and Ad, so they knew they had to make
a move. Kind of ironic that the best record they've
had at this point since the Bubble Championship. This is
when they make the trade. Now we upset the Apple card,
right Ah.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
Yeah, and you're doing it without him, without Anthony David.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
But this is why this is a good gamble to take,
because Luca is now showing up to the Lakers where
he needs to be beholden to the Lakers. And if
getting in shape is the big thing with the Mavericks, remember,
as you mentioned, the Mavericks making this trade, they're getting
killed for it. But if they're if they're not going
to give him the money that he's doing a three
hundred and fifty million dollar extension this offseason, and we've
(25:59):
heard reports he wasn't happy and wasn't gonna re sign.
Of course, you got to make the trade, right, Okay,
you're either gonna lose him for nothing in a few months.
And it's not like you're in a title or bust
type year. You went to the finals last year. This
is obviously not one of those years. Luca's not been healthy,
you're not winning. This is not one of those hey
we'll get a great draw and we can make it
to the finals years. So in one in one of
(26:21):
those where we kind of reset for the for the
coming years. We either trade Luca now and we get
something really good for him an ad or we wait
till the summer and we don't get anything. Right. So
I understand the Mavericks, but people have to just think
about certain business and how and from the Mavericks perspective,
and you understand that this trade they made was as
good as they were gonna get. But for the Lakers,
(26:43):
like I understand that Luca is not gonna listen to
the Mavericks because he came up with them, they drafted him,
they gave him everything. Of course, they're gonna defer to
him on all of it because he's one of the
biggest stars in the league. He's running unchecked. They meant,
they tried to find players he could play with. They
thought Porsus was the guy, and we had heard that, Hey,
Porzingis was not really welcomed by Luca and he was out.
(27:05):
They tried to find the right players for him to
play with. They count out to him for a long
time until they got done with it and they said, okay,
now we're trading you. So what's going to stop him
from doing that with the Lakers. Well, first of all,
he's got the guy to look up to in Lebron
who is a walking example of take care of yourself.
And look where you could be at forty. I mean, like, look,
the guy just had a triple double against the Knicks.
(27:25):
He's for no one in the history of sports has
played at a higher level at the age of forty
than Lebron James. Other guys have played really well. Tom
Brady won a Super Bowl at forty, but you could
tell Brady was close to the end Lebron could play
another three years. I don't see the finish line for
Lebron when you are playing like this when you're forty
years old, like that's just an everyday example of this
(27:45):
is what I should be. But the fact that now
he's kind of been, you know, his his achilles heel
of not being in shape has been thrown out there
for everybody's public knowledge. You can't skate with that anymore.
You know, you don't call the shot. You just had
your image take a direct hit where the team that
loved you more than anybody else said we're done and
(28:06):
we're moving you out someplace else. That's that's a reality check,
and that's where you know Luca is going to get
to this point quickly with the Lakers of hey, I
want to keep playing, well, I know I have to
do this, and it's easier for the Lakers to keep
him to it because he's brand new. He's not someone
that hey, you drafted me and I call the shots,
and he's someone that wants to get a big contract.
(28:27):
He just saw himself potentially lose one hundred million dollars
in the last three days because the Maverick's going to
have given him more money than anybody else can. Now,
the Lakers, when they want to actend him, because they're
likely going to, they'll give him. You can give them
a hundred million dollars less than he was going to
get if he signs a big deal. So I think Luca.
The flip side of it is he's seeing what's happened
and now this is a new reality for him, so
(28:48):
he gets that, all right, I'm not going to be coddled.
They're not going to defer to me. I gotta build back.
I got to build back to who I am and
prove to the Lakers that I can be this superstar player.
They'll pay me, and I want to be playing with
I'm forty years on and when you get two or
three more big contracts after this, but I got to
really straighten up. He was never going to straighten up
with the Mavericks, but now it's open for that to
(29:09):
happen with the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
Well, and that's you know, you get along with your
life and you're going on, I mean, you and I
doing this my PhD weight loss thing. Show me a
picture of myself from six months ago. Nobody said a
word huh. And then you say well, you you dummy,
You looked in the mirror all this time and you
were you were just fine with they, weren't you. But
it's it's the idea with Luca, right, Nope, they're not
(29:32):
telling him anything that he just hasn't come to grips with.
I guess all right, he's been playing bigger. Whatever the
official number is, we've seen it all the way up
to two seventy with some estimates, and we know what
those are in sports, right, Charles Barkley reportedly played at
two fifty his whole career, Right, let's leave.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
It at that.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Maybe he was two fifty then during the season he
got a little you know.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
Yeah, but that's but that's the point, right, it's you know,
the just like used to fudge heights, like that guy's
not six ' ten. It's like Shack's not seven to four, right,
But whatever the case may be, in this case, it's
the you know, how comfortable you are playing there? And
this again lends credence to any of the subversive conspiratorial
(30:22):
stuff of what's the other shoe to drop?
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Beyond?
Speaker 4 (30:24):
Hey, they just weren't comfortable with him trying to play
it this weight because clearly proof of concept has been
there year after year. Now he's not on the court now.
But is that suddenly a vast departure or is he
actually more injured or are you just gonna try to
because it's convenient attribute it to him carrying a little
(30:45):
more weight.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome. Jason Smith

a man who's been called the Anthony Davis of Fox

then we have to trade him. It's Steve de Seger.
Speaker 5 (31:05):
I'm doing this report with my abdominal strained, just for
the record.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Taking it mus.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
You got one of those machines strapped on that's compressing
your your gut.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
I think the last three seasons Anthony Davis has had
one of those strapped You just can't see it under
the jersey. He's now with Dallas. He's out tomorrow. He's
missed a week with an abdominal strain. The Lakers, meanwhile,
will introduce Luka Donsich at a media conference Tuesday morning.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
The leagu's trade deadline is Thursday. Dear and Fox was.
Speaker 5 (31:33):

That's really cool. That's a really cool that it's a
good story. Spurs Radio.
Speaker 5 (31:45):

all time leading scorer. Sacramento won one sixteen, one fourteen
at Minnesota. DeMar DeRozan thirty three points for the home team.
Anthony Edwards did have twenty one after he'd missed Saturday's
game due to illness. Saturday's game was a loss for
Minnesota to Washington. The Wizards snapped the sixteen game losing
streak over the weekend, and then Washington won again tonight,
(33:14):
sent Charlotte to a fifth straight loss, one twenty four
to one fourteen. How about this the Wizard's record this
season against Charlotte, and Atlanta is five to one against
the rest of the league. Three and forty. Washington hosts
Atlanta on Saturday. The Atlanta Hawks just ended an eight
game losing streak, winning one thirty two to one thirty
at Detroit. Trey Young thirty four points, including the game

ranked in the top ten, first time since nineteen seventy five.
Florida State basketball coach Leonard Hamilton will retire after this season.
He's seventy six women's basketball NC State beat Duke one
NHL game Ottawa a five to two winner at Nashville.
Brown's all pro defensive end Miles Garrett requested a trade
(34:23):
and the Rams informed wide receiver Cooper Cup they will
be trying to trade him. The Yankees reportedly gave pitcher
Carlos Carrasco a minor league deal.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Neck to you, Thank you, Steve O. The Jason Spitzer

Trade fever has engulfed the sports world. Yes, Luca Addaron Fox.
Two NFL stars are now officially on the trading block.
Who's the guy you should trade for? I'll tell you
next Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my bes friend
Mike Harmon. Trade fever is everywhere a fever, but only
one that matters. Ad Luca de Aaron Fox to the Spurs. Oh,
by the way, what a great trade that was for
the spur Just for a second, we told you last week, Hey,
(35:29):
if the Spurs find a way to get the Aaron Fox,
they're gonna be a top three team in the West.
Not only did they get the Aaron Fox. Didn't have
to give up Anybody didn't have to give up Castleo, nobody,
they're gonna be By this time next year, there'll be
a top four team in the NBA. This is a
team that's absolutely loaded. The next era of the Spurs
is here in a year be a top four team
(35:50):
in the league.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
See, this is the one.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
If we're gonna complain about nothing of substance going back
for a player, this is the trade out of the
last couple of days, that would be the one where like,
all right again, what I mean, how many second round
pick conditionals are we giving up?
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Those don't matter, makes no difference.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
We're gonna do it. So again we talk about big trades,
obviously the Luca ad trade, but wow, that Spurs trade
that answered, that is really something, man, And it shows
you that, oh, we can get a player who's making
a lot of money and not have to give up
all kinds of crazy ass, no matter how difficult teams
like the Lakers make it seem like, oh, we can't
do that trade with too much money has gotta go here.
You can kind of do that. He ktta do it now.
(36:33):
Speaking of trade fever, two NFL stars are on the
trading block. One has asked to be put on it.
One was put on it by his team. Earlier in
the day, Miles Garrett, reigning defensive Player of the Year
in the NFL, said he wants out of Cleveland. He's
got two more years left on his deal. Doesn't want
to be part of a rebuilding next couple of years
(36:53):
in Cleveland, which well, let's say they've been rebuilding since
I got to Sean Watson. And meanwhile, Cooper Cup is
likely going to be an ex member of the Rams.
He went on social media tight and said, Hey, I
thought I would spend my whole career here in LA.
It's not gonna happen. The Rams inform me they're going
to be traded. They're gonna work with him to find
the best landing spot for him and his family. Now,
(37:15):
while Cooper Cup is someone that they should be able
to deal again, he's hit the money is not crazy,
and you're thinking, all right, another couple of years out
of Cup, a fifth round pick, because look that the
Rams is looking to move on, which they need to
because you saw in the limited time he had this year,
he's not a part of the offense anymore. It's all
Poka Nakua driven, and they can supplement with a guy
(37:36):
like Jordan Whittington or you know to two at well,
they reload on the fly better than any team I've
ever seen in the NFL. The Rams just do it
every year. They find a way. Now while they're gonna
be able to move on and they'll be able to
trade Cooper Cup because there's gonna be team saying, hey
we need a guy like that. Do we want to
wait and see if we can get a Stefan Diggs
or Amari Cooper or hey we can make a move
(37:56):
for Cooper Cup. But getting I'm telling you, man, if
you can make a move, you can grab the reigning
defensive player of the year, who at least for the
next two years is going to be fantastic. You can
go get Miles Garrett for a second round pick, third
round pick, whatever. It's gonna because you're paying in the
(38:17):
rest of his contract. He's got to decide that I'm
not gonna try to have everything, which is I want
an extension for a contract and a trade because you
saw what happened to Son Reddick, right, so you know
that's not gonna happen now, Miles.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
Garrett that the Jets.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
It was the Jet But still you know in one
year left, getting a trade called what are you gonna do?
And now he's never getting paid again. So congratulations a
son Reddick. I hope it was worth it for you
should have watched man.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
He showed you.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Everybody who went to the Jets is not happening. But
as long as Miles Garrett, look, if he's trying to
get extra money out of the out of the Browns,
I'm like, okay, great, because that's what he's or if
he's trying to get traded, but you can't do both.
No one's gonna make a trade for him and give
him extra money. If you really want out, a team
can get him for the next two years and he
will be a phenomenal add He's some He's like JJ
(39:04):
Watt when he was available at this point in his career,
except JJ Watt you didn't know how many more games
he was gonna play because he was always hurt. This
is a guy who's thirty years old, reigning Defensive Player
of the Year, still has a huge level. He should
be eminently gettable. A team like the forty nine ers,
who have to cut so many players because they're all
making more than fifteen million dollars a year they'll cut
three of those guys, but hey, they'll make a move
(39:25):
for Miles Garrett. Suddenly that defensive line, They're just gonna
keep it going defensively because this guy's got at least
two more phenomenal years in him. He will absolutely be
moved to a contender who will give up whatever is
needed for him. I'd like getting Cooper Cup. I'd love
getting Miles Garrett.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
Yeah, with a lot of it comes down to that contract.
As you talked about, you know, you and I a
little bit. You know, his is tied with Keenan Allen
for the twelfth most for a wide receiver. Just slit
that sink in for a second, and it was a
great twenty twenty one. That's that's several years ago. That's
an awful lot of shots across the middle, games missed.
(40:02):
And he's not the game changer downfield. So unless someone's
picking up a bunch of that freight for me, I e.
The Rams are gonna eat a bunch of the money.
I'll be standing in line with my waiver wire claim.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
Like it's a fantasy league.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
As for Miles Garrett, Yeah, a difference changer, difference maker
in all of it, right, you want a quarterback, and
you want a guy that's gonna chase him down.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
And this guy does as well as anybody, as long.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
As it checks out with his feet, achilles, all those
things that were listed like he was the wacky doctors
game operation. This year, another fourteen sacks season in Cleveland's
defense rose up at times, and unfortunately for Stefanski, the
offense hamstrung once again because they were still beholden to
the Deshaun Watson world. But yeah, Miles Garrett's a different
(40:49):
difference maker at every turn. You might have to give
a day one to get it done, but certainly a
guy that's gonna upgrade your defense and even an average
front seven, because that much better instantly.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
None of this would have happened if they didn't sign
to Seawan Watson. Everything could still be fine in Cleveland,
if they didn't give all that money to Shawn Watson.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
Yeah, well, you know, sometimes you gotta really learn the
hard way.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
It'd be digging out of that contract for YEARSS.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
Well, at least the Fanski doesn't have to worry about
starting him this year.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
Oh that's true. No, that is true. You're right about that.
You know, you're all right he'll be starting Cam Mooreton.
It'll be fine. They'll be just starting over the quarterbacks.
