Well dressed Hobo.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Well, we'll get back into the Luca ad trade that
we're still shaking from coming up in about twenty minutes,
because I can answer the biggest question everybody's had about
this trade so far. But speaking of trades, everybody's got
trade fever. Mike Harmon, we got there's a couple of
big trades could happen in the NFL. You know, all
this trade stuff going on with Canada and Mexico. Now

(01:15):
everybody's trying to trade stuff. We're not trading. We're trading.
There's tariffs, they're not terriffs. I mean the trades gripped
the entire world.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
There's trades.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Well, I mean, look, if we can get everybody.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
To understand the aprons, perhaps we can then understand global international,
domestic foreign currency policies.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Oh that's I think I could understand the foreign currency
policies better than the apron.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Well, I think there might be some truth to that.
How many trying?

Speaker 1 (01:42):
I can maybe do one apron, maybe two aprons. I
get into like the fifth apron, I'll forget it. There's
too many.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Well, I mean that's where this is fun.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
We got several giant trades consummated where no aprons were
involved in the arming or hemming of this process.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
So let's be real, guys, there's only one trade that counts. Look,
the A D.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Luca trade is incredible, the Luca trade. The Luca trade, Well,
a D.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
Was Look, you know, frog, he's a champion.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
He no, hang on a second.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
You know you talk about A D the last four
years like he was your older brother and you idolized.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Him and.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Wants to you know, and you're walking around with you
with the ball for your middle fingers up saying it, yeah,
if I have to, I will you get.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
Wait, sweet Smith, let me ask this follow up. Don't mom,
do you now agree with the assessment of street clothes,
as he was dubbed by Charles Barkley.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Wife, when they when they build you wearing any when
they build the statue of a d in Dallas, he
will be in street clothes. His statue outside will be
him sitting on a chair in street clothes.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
I'd almost commission that if I were Anthony Davis. There,
I got your title. We made we made something out
of that Lebron James world for you.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Here's my street clothes.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Now.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Speaking of being motivated right, because the Lakers are hoping
that Luca is motivated to stay in shape now that
he's a Laker. One of the big NFL trades on
the table too late breaking stories today. According to Cooper Cup,
it's not according to the Rams, it's not according to
Sean McVay. According to Cooper Cup, he is going to
be traded. He put out a statement on social media

(03:21):
today saying that it's not the outcome he wanted. He
thought he was going to spend his whole career and
retire as a member of the Rams. But the Rams
are going to trade him. They are working with him
and his family to find the best destination for him.
So Cooper cup is going to be on a new
team next year. And look, we talked about for a

(03:41):
second about the Rams. This is what makes the Rams
so good. At what makes the Rams, at least at
this point another year, is being a dark horse super
Bowl contender, even if Matthew Stafford's coming back is that
they turned no team I've ever seen following, you know,
since the big free agency era in the NFL started,
has been able to continue to reload on the fly

(04:02):
like the Rams. Usually, you know, the the end of
that the end of that roulette wheel, you know, a busts,
you know, and something happens. All right, we got to
start over again. But the Rams went from hey, we're
a team underachieving. Sean McVay shows up, they get to
a super Bowl, they retool, They get to another super
Bowl and win, they retool, they get to the playoffs.
The last two years were a hair's breadth away from

(04:23):
the NFC Championship game. They retool on the fly all
the time, and honestly, they really have to move on
from Cooper Cup. You could see when he came back,
and it's only healthy for a fraction of this year.
He wasn't that big a part of the offense, right,
he just wasn't. It's Pooka Nakula led and you know
that they like Jordan Whittington coming up and you can
use two too out well as a weapon. DeMarcus Robinson

(04:45):
catches passes, right, you know that. Okay, Cooper Cup makes
a lot of money. We need to get some of
this money back that we can that we can move
on because a dead cap hit for Cooper Cup is
like twenty two million dollars. So they're gonna try to
move on, and there is gonna be a team that
wants Cooper Cup. It's gonna be hey, you know, take
the money out, because we're not gonna suddenly say we
want like a second round pick for Cooper Cup. Look,

(05:06):
Cooper Cup's in a three year decline. When he's healthy,
he's still an incredible receiver and some team is gonna
say we want him to fill that role with the
rams he can fit right in on our team and
be that guy. Whether it's the Steelers, whether it's the Dolphins,
somebody else can say, hey, Cooper Cup can be that
guy for us. Again, it's gonna be inexpensive to get him,
so let's go out and do it. So, yes, he

(05:27):
is gonna be traded. I'm sure it's gonna be for
a late later day draft pick. It's going to be
a gamble for the other team. But the Rams really
have no choice but to do this because, yes, it's
hard to move on from Stafford, we don't have that quarterback.
You can move on from Cooper Cup because you have
the next Cooper Cup and Puka Nakua who is ready
to take that role from him.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
Yeah, I mean you look at the We talked about
him probably being either traded or cut as the season ended, right,
he went part and parcel with everything we were talking about,
with Matthew, Stafford and McVeigh coming out saying, hey, we
need a decision fast. They're trying to figure out the
direction of this squad and high priced guys with availability

(06:07):
issues like Cooper Cup not gonna be around in the
In the next iteration, you looked at a guy that
had his moment Super Bowl MVP, and when he's on
the field, you get your six to eight targets. And
the operational efficiency with Matthew Stafford has been tremendous. But
you got three straight years where his availability week to

(06:28):
week and in game is oftentimes in question.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
That can't be.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
Your number one, can't be your number two in most circumstances,
especially with the dollars that he's got committed. So unless
you know you've got some real acquiescence from the the
Rams to eat a bunch of the money, I think
people will wait him out and see if they cut him.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
Yeah, they cut him might.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Well, he'd have to be a post June one. Yeah,
just be able to say that money.

Speaker 5 (06:56):
Because he's got like a five million dollar that's already guaranteed.
There's another seven million, like it adds up in a hurry.
The cap HiT's nearly thirty. But yeah, I think I'd
play the waiting game like hungry, hungary hit fish.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
However, here's the thing, though, is that there's a lot
of free agents out there wide receiver wise, right there's
you know, Digs is out there and Cooper is out there.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
These guys are all going to come with Higgins.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
You know, well, Higgins is Higgins is a number one,
Like he's gonna be the guy that gets really paid.
What I'm saying is there's a lot of guys like
Cooper Cup that are gonna be out there, guys that
are thirty thirty one that maybe you've seen the best
of them play, but they might still really have something
and give you something the next couple of years. But
those guys are gonna be a little bit more expensive.
You know, Cooper Cup is okay, so we can guarantee

(07:40):
ourselves getting a lottery ticket, like could look, Amari, Cooper
didn't really play well at all last year after after
the trade, and now you know Digs coming off an injury.
But hey, al right, Cooper Cup, he's gonna cause a
fifth round pick. Okay, you know, all right? The money,
the money's not crazy, and we can figure we can
figure out the cash part of it. I can almost
guarantee that we would get a guy to fill that

(08:01):
that slot we need on offense at the wide receiver spot.
Whereas if we wait for guys to hit free agency,
we wait for someone to get cut, we might be
we might lose out right, because you can say, all
there's a lot of wide receivers out there, doesn't mean
you're gonna get one, so you know, and if there's
teams are gonna say, hey, I don't know that we
want to make a trade for for for okay, well
hey be that team to make that trade and you

(08:22):
fill that and you fill that slot because Cooper Cup
to be able to make sure you get him for
a fifth round pick. To me, that's the same as
Stefan Diggs for twelve or two years and twenty five
whatever you have to guarantee him or same thing for
Cooper and Godwin you know, is coming off injuries too,
Like there's it's still the same thing. So why wouldn't
you say, yeah, we'll go fifth round draft. I'd call
the Rams tomorrow say fifth round draft pick for him

(08:44):
right now? Right let let let's try to figure this
out as soon as we can. And this is gonna
be the deal that we wind up having for Cooper Cup.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
Again, for me, it all becomes a money thing. As
a guy who watched the Bears give a monster contract
to cover your ears. Keenan Allen stat for days right now,
tied with him for the twelfth richest wide receiver contract.
That sound about right. Mmmmmmm, man, that sounds like two
guys getting paid for what they were.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Now the other big trade is going to be surrounding
Miles Garrett, reigning defensive player of the Year in the NFL,
who said I want out of Cleveland and you know, look,
you can trace this all the way back to Boyd.
They've just been right about the quarterback position. Maybe Miles
Garrett wants to stay, but he doesn't want to be
part of another rebuild. Probably has another couple of years
left to be a superstar player, you know, in his

(09:33):
early thirties. Also, he's got two years left on his contract.
I am sure he is looking for more money as well.
I'm getting near the end. I don't want to wait
until the last year for more money because I don't
want to turn into a Son Reddick where somebody, oh.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
No, no, no, I'm only gonna take you. Gotta bet no,
We're not gonna pay you anymore.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
So I'm sure he saw the lesson that Reddick learned
last year, because now it's a son Reddick really gonna
get paid coming off of last year with everything. I
hope you hope he felt that the holdout was worth
it because now suddenly he cast himself all kinds of
cash this so he knows that, Okay, I can't do that.
So now, with two years left on my deal, maybe
I get more money. Maybe I convinced the Browns give
me more money. But no matter what, I want to

(10:10):
get out. Miles Garrett is a better version of JJ
Watt when he was at this point in his career,
because when jj Watt got to that point where he
was thirty thirty one, all, look, jj Watt, don't we
can get jj Watt. Yeah, jj Watt's been hurt a lot.
How many games are really gonna play? Miles Garrett is
still at the top of his game. He is someone
who is well sought after. And if you're the Browns

(10:33):
and you're you're most likely starting over at quarterback. I'm
sure cam Ward is gonna be their pick at number two. Yeah, okay,
if you're rebuilding, this is what's happening. Yeah, you trade
Miles Garrett for a second round pick or a second
and a third you get there would be some kind
of bidding war for Miles Garrett as long as Garrett
is okay with going to a new team. And not
saying I'm not gonna go I'm gonna go there unless

(10:54):
you give me a new deal, Like it's okay, we'll
take you, but it's gonna be the two years.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Left on your contract. Then we'll go from there.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Like if that's the case, he's got to make it
easy to make a team deal for him. So either
you're putting it the screws to the Browns about getting
more money, or if you get traded, you got to
be quiet about getting money from them, because that's what's
gonna make a deal happen. So he's got to pick
a lane here. Do you really want to get traded?
Do you really want more money? So we tried to
have all of it again, look at a son Reddick
who tried to have all of it. Now, he's never
gonna get paid again as a pass rusher. So as

(11:23):
long as he picks one of those avenues. Yeah, and
and really, a team is going to trade for him.
A team that's close to the Super Bowl is gonna say, yes,
we'll replace the look again. The guy's thirty and he's
the reigning defensive player of the year. He's got at
least two more really good years left. He wants to
be motivated. He wants another contract after this. Yes, let's
go get Miles Garrett. I think there's gonna be a
ton of teams interested in him.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Son Reddick's gonna be fun though, Arizona, Green Bay. I mean,
where's he gonna end up?

Speaker 3 (11:49):
Good luck? Well good look for one year and six million?
Good luck, good luck.

Speaker 5 (11:53):
But yeah, you can go and get your proof of concept.
Like part of it is, you got to hash this
stuff out before the deals consummated. Jets, you know, doing
what they're doing. But for Miles Garrett, right, you kick
under and you got to look underneath the hood, right
because he's got the foot injury that's there didn't seem

(12:14):
to slow him down tremendously when you look at the
bottom line stats, but you know, trying to figure out
where he is physically as he's aging. I like the
JJ Watt comparison. But you always can find a team
that an extra edge.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
What do you need?

Speaker 5 (12:30):
You need a quarterback and someone to chase him down, right,
the two basic tenets of building football teams. So yeah,
plenty of suitors in the marketplace, very rich, couple of
years still on the books. You may have to be
forced to extend him because you've got proof of concept.
Look at I mean, look at the string of double
digit sack seasons that you might have to be amenable to.

(12:52):
But there's one where you know, I'll give you your draft
pick and we'll talk money. I got no problem with it, right.
It's it's the stark contrast to Cooper Cup. I mean,
this guy's got a particular set of skills. I like
Cooper Cup. He's not a game changer. Now's Garrett is
a game change?

Speaker 6 (13:08):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Absolutely? But they said, like where's more? Cup is more
like a lottery ticket. We need to fill a spot,
and maybe he does it. Miles Garrett is, Hey, we
can turn this defensive line into an absolute monster. Like
that's like a move where if the forty nine ers
are losing a bunch of guys, like I could see
them making that move. Like I say, we have twelve
guys making fifteen million dollars a year.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
We'll cut a couple of those guys, which we.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Have to, but hey, we'll make that trade for Miles
Garrett because now we can we can keep the good
time going on defense.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
But it's funny you.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
Bring up the you know, the forty nine Ers and
Robertsala and all of that, just real quick. The other
side of the ball is probably where your greatest example
has been. Trent Williams made a bunch of regular guys
a lot of money and made them look pretty good
for a lot of years.

have a little bit of of of new news here tonight, Mike.
I didn't know this, but I think they're about to
play the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
You think no, I mean like they're gonna play it.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
I think in the next few minutes because uh NFL
Opening night. You know, the media night that the NFL
ruined by having it Monday nights at a Tuesday during
the day.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
Why it's on during our showy, No, that's great.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
No one talks about it. They blew it.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
I just watched UH members of the Eagles led by
Nick Sirianni and members of the Chiefs led by Andy
Reid on the big stage and they all walk by
each other and shook hands and like hugged and like
wish each other good luck. So maybe the super Bowl
is going to start in about a half hour.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
What is it the end of a hockey scene?

Speaker 3 (17:07):
What we do?

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Like they walked by each other like it was the
It looked like the end of a basketball because they're
all in like out you know, they're all in like
sure outfits, you know, like that the Chiefs are in
all white and and the UH and the the Eagles
are in the green and white, and like they walked
by with the hugging. It looked like the line at
the end of a basketball game.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Why did they do this? Good game? Good game?

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Why did they do like the Beef Bowl or something?
Why don't we add that?

Speaker 3 (17:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
So, like tonight, it's about the gluttony. Can my offensive
line eat more than your offensive nine?

Speaker 1 (17:37):
And you know how this wasn't a real game that
it was not a real game because the Chiefs didn't
make out with the refs. Oh yeah, there were no
refs here to to call a penalty on the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
It's not a real game.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
Sure there were no media members and their costumes as
referees this year, or did they ban those guys?

Speaker 1 (17:53):
I mean, I don't know what's going on right now,
but like Scott, oh oh wait a minute, hang on,
I see what's happening. Scott Hansen is on on stage
with Peter Schrager and members of the Eagles and members
of the Chiefs, and the Lombardian Trophy is in front
of him, so the Lombardi Trophy is them the Lombardian
The Lombardi Trophy is in front of him. So I

(18:14):
think what's gonna happen is Scott Hansen's just going to
award the trophy to the Chiefs now ahead of time.
Is it gonna be commercial free?

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Yeah? Absolutely, all sudden commercial free. Yes.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
You know, he'll take you to other games, like I
think he can take you to the NBA action. What's
going on Late Night right now and take you around
the horn. But I think he's just gonna give the
Chiefs the Lombardi Trophy.

Speaker 4 (18:34):
How does he ever throw to a commercial again?

Speaker 5 (18:37):
Yeah, I don't know, with great trepidation. Wait, are you
sure this is supposed to be in my prompter?

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Something I've never done? I'm throwing the commercial?

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Wow, it doesn't just feels unnatural. It was.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
It was tough, like when I did Fantasy Zone for
three years and I basically did the same thing on
Fantasy because you know, it was the same thing that
he did, Andres Leano did Red Zone and I did
Fantasy Zone. It was really weird, never going to commercial,
never going to break. But I always had a break
when I would say, okay, let's go to New York
where like Kay Adams and John Hanson would do a
little bit of analysis and then I'd get a couple

(19:11):
of minute break throwing it back to me. Yeah, because
rap I was with rap in Uh in LA for
the season, and you, oh, you want a great Michael
Rapport story, You want a great one story real fast.
So when I did Fantasy Zone right and he was
on he was in LA, and I would go to
the games and come back and everything else, and it
was really fun. And one time he got really mad

(19:33):
over a play where his guy didn't get the ball
in the goal line and it went to somebody that
that no one had heard of. Like let's just say, like,
you know, Chris Ivey was expected to get the carry
for the Jets and and and you know he's got
Chris Ivory, but Baal Powell got it instead scored his
life is fantasy football.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Yes, oh, he is all fan.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
I thought you're gona say, I got explained to millennials
whom Michaelrap.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
You might have to help out a little bit there too.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
So so Rap is so rap is you know, he's
really upset that, you know, Chris Ivory didn't get this carry.
And he says, Jason's I can't believe they didn't give
them the ball to him. And I said, and I
knew I got him because I killed him with this,
I said, Rap. I said, I have not seen you
this upset since Phoebe refused to move in with you
on Friends And he couldn't talk, and he just goes
and he just starts smiling, and I can tell he's

(20:19):
trying to come up with somebody goes, I can't I
dropped him. Mike Chase dropped the Okay, let's let's let's
go back and do something. I got nothing that he's
laughing and he can't go up, and I'm like, I
knew I killed him with that one.

Speaker 5 (20:31):
Well, I mean that's the you are you really a fan?
And how deep is your Michael Rapaport reservoir?

Speaker 1 (20:39):
H But look, as we get to speaking of trades,
love more NFL on the way again. Maybe if they
award the Lombardi Trophy to Mahomes, I'll let you know.
But uh, the biggest question coming off this Luca trade
to the Lakers, and everybody's still asking it now, is oh,
the Mavericks didn't get anything, But the Mavericks gave Luca
Dawn to your way and nothing thing could be further

(21:00):
from the truth. That is a you know, if you
say that, that is kind of a a knee jerk.
It's emotional and shallow take on this story because the
the because a correct question back is that what did
you want them to get?

Speaker 3 (21:16):
What did you expect they would get? Flowed? Well, he's
a top five player in the league.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
Okay, let's examine how superstar players get traded, right, what
do you want? You want four first round picks? That
would make you feel better if if there was four
first round picks for Luca. First round picks in the
NBA are absolute lottery tickets. Unless you're picking number one
overall and Wemby or Cooper Flagg is coming out. It's
a crapshoot. Maybe your guy is good that you draft

(21:40):
in the first round.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
Maybe not.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
Some drafts are two players deep and you're and you're
trading with a team that's likely not going to be
in the lottery. So it's a it is it's a
lottery ticket when you're not in the Lottery's I actually
make a T shirt on that. So, yes, first round
picks are not what they are in the NFL. I
think people just get misconstrued with that. Yes, four first
round picks in the NFL is a big deal because
should be four players that are that that form the

(22:02):
focal point of your team for years and maybe they're
they're Pro Bowl or is that's what you're expecting And
that's why the Lakers keep trading their first round pich
is why teams keep trading first round picks because they're
not as valuable, Like, really you would you'd rather have
four first round picks and Anthony Davis? Come on, I
mean really you'd rather have four first round picks? No,
of course, not right, So the first round picks, Okay,
we don't get first round picks. You should have gotten

(22:23):
more players. Okay, if you trade a star player, what
do you want back? You want three decent players because
that's really what you get. You get Spencer Dinwiddie as
the leader of three players that you trade. If you
trade a star player, Spencer Titwiddie is the guy leading
that that that parade there. So what would you rather have?
Would you rather have Anthony Davis or three good rotation

(22:44):
players headlined by Spencer Dinwiddie. No, you'd rather have Anthony
Davis than than than than than that. So both of
those situations, ad is the better. Get right, you're getting
a top ten NBA player. And remember the MAVs were
on trading Luca. They had called another team. The other
team said, yeah, no, we're not gonna do that, so
they call the Lakers, got the trade done. They got

(23:06):
the best player they were going to get because no
other team go through the top twelve to fifteen players
in the NBA. What team is trading their guy for Luca.
The thunder are not trading Shade Gildess Alexander for Luca.
The Knicks are not trading Jalen Brunson for Luca. Right,
just keep going on down the list. Right, The Sixers
aren't trading Tyrese Maxi for Luca. The Celtics aren't trading

(23:28):
Jason Tatum for Luca. No one's doing that. So it's
not like suddenly, hey, here's a great player on the
trading block and teams are gonna give up everything for him. No,
that's not gonna happen, because when you get Luca, you
gotta give him a lot of money in the offseason.
It's all of a sudden, Hey we got Luca. Oh no, no,
guess what. You gotta give him two hundred and fifty
three undred million dollars. That's what he wants in this offseason.

(23:48):
So understand this is not a blanket or an absolute
of when you trade away a top five player, you
gotta get more. So understanding that, now, look back at
the at the Mavericks trade. Okay, they did pretty well.
They got the best player they were going to get,
and if I give you all those options, Wo'd rather
have Ad In what you got? Would you rather have
four first round picks or would you rather have three

(24:10):
players headlined by a Spencer Dinwiddie, You'd rather have Ad?
So yes, was it a perfect trade?

Speaker 2 (24:16):
No?

Speaker 1 (24:16):
But when you know you're gonna move on from him
and you want to trade him earlier because you either
think you're gonna lose him in free agency or you
don't want to pay him because you've had it with
him and is not staying in shape attitude? What better
deal are you going to get?

Speaker 3 (24:30):
You're not. This was the best deal that was out there.
You gotta do it fast.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
You got to do it quietly because you can't just
put Luca or Ad on the trading block because then
things get really messy. Guys don't want to play. Teams
come up and they low ball you because they don't
want to give you that big offer first and to
see if the think, hey, let's just lay in the weeds
and think what happens and it gets messy for everybody, right,
So it has to be done quietly, the way this
trade had to come about. And again, you're bent on

(24:55):
trading Luca if you are the Mavericks wanted to trade him,
they did get.

Speaker 3 (24:59):
A guy who five years older.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Okay, Ad is still a top ten, top twelve player
in the NBA. Okay, he's gonna be really good for
the next three to four years before he slows down.
He's like thirty fourists or so. Yes, it's a risk
that he's gonna be injured because he has been injured
in the path. But Luca's injured, he's not playing. You
don't think he's gonna stay in shape. So really, I
don't know what people want it other than to say, oh,
you gotta get more for Luca.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
Yeah, I get it.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
But when you when you really look into it, not
just give a knee jerk reaction, you understand. Oh, they
kind of got the best offer they were going to
get that was out there.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
The dismissiveness of Anthony Davis is really kind of entertaining
in this process.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
He's gone from a D. It's all his fault, the
Lakers suck. He's so much better now.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
It's oh, really, you trade Luca for a D Come on?

Speaker 5 (25:41):
But all the way through right, Oh, he's the guy,
he's the chosen one, He's next, He's the lynch pin.
Let's argue about how much more important he is than
Lebron James in terms of winning and what he does
on both ends the court helps cover up for the
fact that Lebron only plays defense every eight possessions all
of these things, and then suddenly he's like a throw in.

(26:03):
He's the all right, yeah, I agree to all this
in principle, but you know what, you gotta you gotta,
you gotta get me that box.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
Over in the corner.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
It's a matter no.

Speaker 5 (26:14):
But that's the funny part of it, right, It's just
how dismissive it becomes. And I love Luca, Luca is
a great player, but Luca, we've all we've talked about
it for years. There's no commitment to defense. Let's not
even pretend, and I'm not even trying to do the
the MAVs GM and front office side of things of
you know, defense wins championship. They've really sold themselves. That
is becoming the mantra as they run out the results

(26:38):
of this trade. To your point, you're not building Voltron.
Those three guys don't stack together to form a beheman
to go and Chase and Vinder Webbin Yama around and
in today's NBA, those are three legitimate contracts that you
have to deal with, right, because everything's got to match up,
and we get through that process. The other you know,
the draft pick and I know you and and Steve

(27:00):
off the jump, you know, got into it a little bit,
just you know, let's pick a random first round to
get into how many guys hit and I mean are
substantive players not just day all right, he gets ten
minutes as the eighth guy in a rotation. No, that
become actual stars.

Speaker 4 (27:15):
In this league.

Speaker 5 (27:15):
They're few and far between. And so where we talk
about getting draft picks. Oh yeah, in theory, if it's
been done right, those draft picks are useless because they're
in the twenties. So forget about whether my guy he's
gonna play substantive minutes up top?

Speaker 4 (27:30):
What that one year that everybody got hurt and maybe
we make the lottery.

Speaker 5 (27:34):
Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for because the other three
years I'm drafting in the mid twenties, and in theory,
I'm having a pretty good run to the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
So what are we getting? Well, maybe maybe you get
Cooper Flag. It's twenty that's twenty but you know what
I mean.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
Like, yes, there's gonna be the outlier guys.

Speaker 5 (27:51):
And we do this every year because that's got the
package you have to sell on draft night to keep
people watching beyond the first guy getting this. You know,
undersize cap and handshake from the commission is to well,
you know, there've been some gems that have come out
of the second round and undrafted. Let's take a look
at him through the years, right now, you know that
kind of thing, and we sell that graphic repeatedly.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
I get it.

Speaker 5 (28:12):
That's why we have to sell that graphic so hard
because they are such a rare find. So yeah, it's
laughable the way this kind of goes down, and I
feel bad, and certainly on this show and other work
I done for Fox Sports Radio, I've been quick to
raise my hand at the lack of availability at times

(28:34):
when it comes to ad I'd like to think we've
been equal opportunity in that when it comes to load management,
Joel Embiid, disappearing acts and the like. But in this case,
this guy's career has just been categorically dismissed as well.
I guess they already had paid him a lot of money,
So tell you what, we'll make it match by sending

(28:56):
him over there.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
And you know the thing is to go because you
brought up a good point about you know, the quote
about oh, you know, you get winning this league with
a with a pre eminent defense, and a D is
probably the best defensive player, you know, one of the
top three defensive players in the league obviously, And you know,
I get that that that that seems a little weird
to say in a little out of place, but I
don't look at that as as anything more than Hey,

(29:19):
the Mavericks are sort of not bad mouthing Luca and
are just looking for a way to say good things
about a D. They don't want they don't want this
to be one of those situations where all of a sudden,
here comes stories about Luca and and bad stuff that
went on in Dallas, and it gets kind of embarrassing.
It becomes a he said, he said, they're just looking

(29:39):
for good things that what do you say about it?

Speaker 3 (29:41):
It's like it was a blanket thing.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
What do you say about a D One are the
top three defensive players in the league that still is
an incredible offense?

Speaker 3 (29:47):
Does this it's.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
Always saying the great things Ad does simply because, and
it's a classic thing by the Mavericks. I don't want
to get We don't want to We don't feel the
need right now to have to defend ourselves. Even though
everybody's asking what we're doing, We're still gonna take the
high road and say, hey, we love a d we
love what he doesn't and this is this is the
skill set he brings.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
I'm gonna go in uh to my deep country roots
and bringing a little Keith Whitley. You say it best
when you say nothing at all. Later it was a
big hit for other people, but he was the original
scribe on that one. By talking about AD's defense, you
can nod and wink at the camera at the same time.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
I thought, you're gonna go Beyonce cob By Carter, you know,
the Country album of the Year.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
She did win Country Album of the Year.

Speaker 5 (30:34):
I'm not quite sure what's going on in the photo
they're using to announce the tour that's coming up, because
I know tickets go on sale for that and people
are losing their minds.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
It all comes down to one lesson learned for Dallas. Okay,
what's that You don't touch a grown man's beer?

Speaker 4 (30:51):
That is true.

Speaker 5 (30:52):
Yeah, you want to you want to get a guy
to take away on you.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
You can trace you can trace the fall of Luca
the Mavericks back to Michael Finley taking his beer.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
No, I'm with you on that.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
Well, my calf might hurt a little bit more if
you do that to me, especially if hey, can we
still make it in April?

Speaker 4 (31:10):
Are we going to be in the top ten. I'll
be ready to play.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
Then. If you're overweight, you know it, and if you

Now to a man who was once called the Luka
Doncic of Fox Sports Radio, every time he goes out,
we got to take a beer away from him.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
It's Steve Disager with wats trend. Not that tall, not
that heavy, not that rich.

Speaker 6 (31:37):
The Lakers will be at the Clippers tomorrow night, and
by the way, in about three weeks, the Lakers will
be hosting the Dallas Mavericks. Anthony Davis now with Dallas,
is out for tomorrow's game. He's missed a week with
an abdominal strain. Lucas been out with the calf strain
since Christmas. The Lakers will introduce Luka. Doncic had a
media conference on Tuesday morning. The league's trade deadline is Thursday.
I remember lucas first playoff game, age twenty one. He

(32:00):
scored forty two points against the Clippers, and right about
the same time, this is all you need to know
about his talent. He got Slovenia.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Into the Olympics.

Speaker 6 (32:09):
Now Slovenia, a country of two million people, smaller than
Orange County, California, was in the Olympic basketball tournament because
of him.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
They won the.

Speaker 6 (32:19):
Qualifying tournament and beat Lithuania in the final. He had
a triple double, and then I looked it up. In
his opening Olympic game in Tokyo, Donca scored forty eight points,
and a couple games later beat Spain and made it
to the quarterfinals and beat up Germany.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
Slovenia was in the.

Speaker 6 (32:36):
Olympic semifinals in Tokyo with him at age twenty one.
This is just stunning.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
And so here He's been.

Speaker 6 (32:42):
Five straight years all NBA First Team at guard, and
I looked up his NBA playoffstat This is fifty postseason games,
he has averaged thirty one points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.
By the way, Joel mb with the bad knee, did
I mention the trade deadline is Thursday, in case anybody's
getting ideas about trading a guy you don't want long term.

(33:03):
Embiid was upgraded to questionable for Philadelphia's game tomorrow. He
did practice today. Embid's been out for a month. The
Sixers Paul George with a finger injury, did practice fully.
There is a late game, late in overtime right now
at Portland. The Blazers lead with six seconds left one eighteen,
one seventeen again late in OT against the Phoenix Suns,
who do have thirty two points from Devin Booker their

(33:25):
new all time leading score. Golden State at home is
beaten Orlando one oh four to ninety nine. Steph Curry
twenty four points from three point range. He was two
of twelve. Denver sent New Orleans to a sixth straight
loss one twenty five, one thirteen. Nicola Jokich a triple double,
his twenty third this season. Road wins for Sacramento and Indiana.

(33:46):
Home victories for Oklahoma City and Memphis Grizzlies have won
nine of ten. At New York fourth quarter comeback for
the next to beat Houston won twenty four one eighteen
forty two points for Jalen Brunson. Washington sent Charlotte to
a fifth straight loss, and Atlanta ended an eight game
losing streak winning at Detroit one thirty two to one
thirty Tree Young thirty four points, including the game winner.

(34:07):
In College Basketball's Top twenty Kansas over Iowa State sixty
nine fifty two. Florida State basketball coach Leonard Hamilton will
retire after this season, and Brown's All Pro defensive end
Miles Garrett requested a trade back to you.

According to Sports Illustrated Chris Mannix right, I mean, I

(35:42):
love doing this story earlier in the show because the
panic and absolute, Hey, we just need to do something.
According to reports, and Sham Seranni had it earlier today
that the Warriors have been calling every team to see
if they can get a star player to play with
Steph Hey, I know it's last minute, but what star
would you part with? We want to get somebody to

(36:03):
play with Steph? Well, who do you want? What are
you looking for?

Speaker 3 (36:05):
We don't care.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
We don't really have a plan. There's no plan. Any star,
any position doesn't matter. Well maybe we have a guy, No,
that doesn't matter. I don't tell them, don't wry about
just who do you have? This is a star player? Well,
we need to we need to win the pr battle
to get a quote star player to come in and
play with Steph. And we're calling all the teams, not
we don't care about what the fit is or maybe
there's a guy who plays one position that would fit
better with with Steph.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
We just have to get a star, right. How crazy
does this sound?

Speaker 1 (36:31):
How how it sounds like a bunch of kids are
running the Warriors instead of Mike dunleavy junior, Right, Like, Oh, we're.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
Calling these teams and then you had to add the junior.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
We're calling all these teams just to get a star.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
So much so in fact that again Chris Mannick's reporting tonight.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
Hey, the Warriors are okay with reuniting with Kevin Durant.

Speaker 5 (36:50):
Okay with getting ky, Hey, if kat wants to come back,
why would you not anybody?

Speaker 4 (36:56):
Is he on better terms with Draymond Green than Jordan?

Speaker 3 (37:01):
I think I think I'm on better terms with him
than than Jordan.

Speaker 4 (37:04):
I'm just trying to.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
Make sure we've all water under the bridge to move
on and remember now, you know, and here's the thing
about KD. Okay, I get it worked once before. That
was a while ago, man and Kd's had a couple
of teams that he went to that he was supposed
to elevate and guess what, he didn't elevate either of them.
And this is why he's on the trading block now.
So it's not like Sundy, Oh we're gonna go back

(37:26):
in time and get the pre Achilles. No, you're getting
Kevin Durant's in his mid thirties and and might not
quite be the same player that he was. Yeah, I
get that. That would win a great PA. You know,
you'd win the back page, you'd win the internet because
we all look, we got KD. And all you would
see is people posting Kadie highlights with the Warriors, thinking, oh,
what a great player he's gonna be. Yeah, the same

(37:48):
people that when the Patriots got Cam Newton posted highlights
from twenty thirteen saying you're getting this guy AND's like, no,
it's not his twenty twenty one. He's not that good anymore.
This is this, this planning by the Warriors, and you
wonder why they fall into mediocrity so fast because this
has been their plan, A last minute call around the
league to see if we can get a star to

(38:08):
play with Steph Kurry, Like that's the plan. That's the
plan the Warriors have had going on. Now that that
that's the plan, Like, wow, I mean they maybe Bob
Myers the most important guy. Maybe maybe it wasn't Stuff,
maybe it was Steve, maybe it wasn't Klay Thompson, maybe
it wasn't Draymond. Maybe Bob Meyers's most important guy with
the Warriors.

Speaker 5 (38:25):
Bob Myers was kind of a big deal. We made
sure to point that out at every turn. And then
he left and he's I mean, he does the job
for TV, but better in an executive booth, no question
about it. But well we look at it. You know,
they got that extra title right. They were able to
squeeze that out. The aforementioned Jordan Poole being an instrumental

(38:47):
part bringing him along before.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
He was dumped to the wayside.

Speaker 5 (38:51):
Uh well physically won and afterwards later on, and then
they've missed on their draft picks. The guys that were
supposed to be the next to rise up and and
help Shepherd steph.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
Down the road.

Speaker 5 (39:06):
They got rid of Klay Thompson. Uh and you see
this iteration of the Warriors again. All those guys that
were going to be the next, the big guys, the
complimentary players on the wing, all of these things. It
just hasn't worked, and you're just mired as just another
five hundred squad.

Speaker 4 (39:25):
It's tough. And when you're in.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
That that part of the life cycle because you didn't
bottom out right, you just got into that uncomfortable space.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
You're like the Steelers, Oh look at this Steeler this. Yeah,
you always say, oh look at them catching as straight.
You get the Steelers a straight there.

Speaker 5 (39:42):
I was just trying to help out because I mean,
you went out of your way to grab Cam Newton
up id and you wrote you rode graded that guy.

Speaker 3 (39:50):
As soon as you come on.

Speaker 4 (39:52):
Man.

Speaker 5 (39:52):
Look, just because he was in the news earlier in
the week saying he did he wouldn't give back that
MVP award.

Speaker 3 (39:59):
That's what me great, I'm keeping that thing. Yeah, but
realize it'd be better off if you won the Super Bowl. No, no, no,
I'm keeping the think about it.

Speaker 5 (40:09):
Go back and look at the receivers that were on
that squad. Outside of Greg Olsen, he was elevating, there
were there was nobody there of consequence.

Speaker 4 (40:17):
It was Ted gin Junior was the next leading receiver,
So Cam Newton. If they'd won there, you would have
been on a level all by yourself. Yeah, you just
dive on the ball.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
No no, no, not gonna do it.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
I'd rather have the MVP rather have that shiny MVP
trophy I could look at every day, rather have that.

Speaker 4 (40:34):
That's all right, Hey KD. We'd look good back in
San Francisco.

Speaker 1 (40:38):
Yeah, yeah, he look great, and it would be and
people would squint and think it was, oh, it's just
twenty nineteen again. Yeah, good luck, good luck, good luck.

Speaker 3 (40:44):
It's not that.

Speaker 4 (40:44):
But you know what we'd get that.

Speaker 5 (40:45):
Watch them run together one more time, and then they
could trade for Lebron and they can recreate that Olympic photo.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
But it doesn't matter. It's any it's any star. It
doesn't need to be Katie. They just want any star
and they'll be great again suddenly.

Speaker 4 (40:56):
Well, when you're at the eleventh hour, sometimes your your choice.
They're limited. Last call it.

Speaker 3 (41:03):
Stop, dude, you would take our roster for yours off.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
We got Luka, don beat it, tax it out about
a Frescos smallen dome. Jason Smith, Mike Harmon coming up next.
Not to get too crazy on a little too schmaltzy,
but the Luca trade is why everybody loves sports.
