Speaker 1 (00:29):
Has Brownie come in yet? We could be moments away
from maybe Bronni's last game with the Lakers for a while,
cause you know, Luca's gonna get a lot of those guardments.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Yeah, but this is when you're blowing teams out.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
It's Bronnie James, Tom Like the way you were talking
last hour. I mean you've now got the super friends
that have met, which means Bronni James is gonna play
twenty minutes tonight.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
This may be the last time we get to see
Bronnie for a while. The Lakers, who are more been
ready for the Luca don era to begin. They came
out and they blew the doors off of that. You
are only supposed to blow the bloody doors on things,
you know, how bad a blowout it was a bad buddy.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
They didn't even come back from commercials for the start
of the second half. First half a minute was played
before the TNT rejoined What if I'm.
Speaker 5 (01:23):
Gonna tell you Kevin Holland just went home at halftime
he might have It's.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Ai Kevin Harland announcing the game right now.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Man, that guy's shirtless. No no, no, no, not yet, Kevin,
Not not yet.
Speaker 1 (01:32):

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Tirack dot com studios. Tyrec dot com help you get
there an unmatched election, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrack dot com is
the way tire buying should be well. With Luca courtside
watching the game tonight, laughing, I keep waiting to see
if he's eating on the sidelines, just jamming hot dogs
into his mouth and having fun going yeah, blank you
(02:00):
Dallas and my stay in a chape. The Lakers came
out scored forty five points in the first quarter, shots
seventy five percent from the floor. It has not been
a game since. They are beating the Clippers right now
one o eight to eighty three with about seven minutes
to go twenty six for Lebron. He has one assistant,
two rebounds short of his second straight triple double. Austin
(02:21):
Reeves has twenty Hatchamora has twenty. Uh. They are ready
for the Luca Era, which could begin later on this
week their next game. Lucas suddenly had maybe I can
play in the next game. I'm just I'm looking. I'm
looking pretty cool in this black Lakers sweatsuit right now.
Got my first game warn sweatsuit.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Maybe I'll play later on this week and we'll get Jason.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Do you think Luca went through all the facial recognition
software that you need to go to the concession stands
at into it?
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Don't Oh, I don't know. I think the Lakers are
gonna have some kind of that autumn so he doesn't
eat right like that's how he Hey, you can't go.
You can't go have all this stuff. If you see
Luca come up in order something, can't let him have it.
Can't we gotta keep min shake on it, set out of.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
The town, barbecued chicken and wallem fries.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Can't have it? Can you just scan your eye right here? Sir? Oh,
I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Yeah, the rice scan, it starts getting an alarm, goes off.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
This man is not allowed, dude, boo, this is Luca boob.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Meanwhile, Balmber comes over and going, no, let him eat
whatever he wants. We got to beat this team at
some point. Whatever you want to, haven't. I got chocolate
over here, I get all kinds of stuff, have a
lot of carbs. Man, carve up, Luca, get ready carve
up for you?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Uh? Did you change your name to Luca?
Speaker 1 (03:34):
What happened here?
Speaker 6 (03:34):
No?
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Hey, how about that? Luca's talking about staying in shape
and I'm losing weight? How about that? I mean, this
is this is where we're at right now, ice hockey
and hell starts Friday. Yeah, but you can't be pointing
fingers at him. What are we talking about? He and
I could have a great eating contest. It would be close.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
Wait and every snack he eats, do you point like
your what's his name? And once upon a time in Hollywood, Leo, No.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
I point like like Doug Christy would point to his
wife after every time he made a basket, like when
he's exact funny, go he yeah, you did it, you
did it? And then Rick Fox kicked his ass Uh so, look,
we'll have more on this game coming up. Again, Kawhi
is not playing. He's out of the game house, sitting
on it. You're not gonna see him the rest of
the Night's got the T shirt on. He has done.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
You just made it like a whole Logan's run thing
about it, Luca and food.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah that's all I did. Yeah, hey, we'll have it.
We can have a competitive eating Fourth of July hot
dog eating contest.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
I got we can do that.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
But my favorite response is in the last twenty four
hours to the Luka doncicche trade come to us courtesy
of Nicola Jokic and Steph Curry right, like to see
them react the way they did to Luca getting trade. First,
Steph said, hey, you know, there's only a few people
that can go to bed safe in the NBA now
(04:50):
like and not have to worry about waking up getting traded. Right,
So only a few of us can go to bed safe.
Speaker 5 (04:57):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
And then Jokic decided to take it one step further.
Listen to how Jokic described the Luka Doncic trade to
the Lakers.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
I didn't I texted him. He felt it. I mean,
of course, I think he didn't expect it. Of course,
it's a I think he just needs to be with
his family right now. You know, it's a it's a
big move, it's a it's a bitiness. I don't know,
you know. I think nobody expected, especially on him. I
(05:28):
think nobody is safe in the leagues. He was like,
but I think he's going to going to be to
do good job. You know. I think he's the player
for the big scene, even though I thought he did
in Dallas. He had something.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Special going about the Lakers. Lakers are best. Okay, okay.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
First, first of all, let me say this Laker is
great to Steph and.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Nobody died. Guys got trade, Mike, Okay, I was like,
nobody died. It was just a trade. Yeah, all the
mounds kind of die.
Speaker 5 (06:01):
These were superstars, the mounds kind of dying. Oh and
I'm sure some Mavericks fans died inside a little bit.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
But this was a trade.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Nobody is safe. Nobody is safe.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
They're coming to trade us, like Steph and yelk, it's
like dead guys, come on, man, no again, they got traded. Yes,
I'm sorry he got traded, but clearly both sides had issues.
With each other. They're so down on trades. But boy,
you wouldn't be upset if your team's made a trade
for somebody to make your team better, right you? Or
those trades are okay? Right? Those are If we trade
(06:32):
for other players that are at stars, those trades are okay. Meanwhile, oh,
so a star player because he's got to deal with
his family and getting traded, and oh my goodness, that's
worse than another player who's got to deal with his
family and getting traded into what that means. So trading
for guys, that's okay. Getting players is okay. But oh
when you're traded, Oh no, no, that's terrible. Nobody is safe,
(06:52):
none of them. None of us are safe. All of
the stars are trying. They're trying to trade all of
us in the NBA. Or oh, we need to do something.
We need to ban together. We need to form the
Order of the Phoenix and live at twelve Briball Place
and try to make sure we can overcome all these
evil owners who want to trade players.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Oh my goodness, drink the potion.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
You two look like a mute and Harry Potter and
we'll see what happens to you as it goes on.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
I do like the Yo Kica Regulus.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
As black as regulars. Black's a family tree, and you're
seeing like the hollowed out names where the guys that
got traded right, whose name was there? Oh you know, No,
that's where Luca's name was, That's where AD's name was.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
What he had a good run.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
We gotta find Regulus Black. We got to find him.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
But Jokic just said the quiet part out loud. There's
us and there's the ancillary parts. By the way, I
also expected him to say, don't think they'll letting the
nuggets will get me before I get them, because he'll
be back in the sulky ride a horse before uh,
somewhere you don't want to go.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
I like the honest saying yesterday, I think Yoki should
go to the Knicks.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
I'm like, yeah, I started ry goes all the all
the Euros should go to all the big cities. I'm
ready for that. Yeah, I've I did my bit. I
don't want to beat anymore, and we got Big Modega.
But hey, we can trade Big Model. I'll take you
o Kintra Big Modega. I can don't you want to
beat after tonight? No, come on, dude, come on, and
is any your radar? And it's so embarrassing. The guy's
(08:21):
been out for so long and now we're like, well,
if I want to get traded, I better come back
and play. And he comes back tonight and he balls
out like, hey, okay, it's safe to trade for me. Guys,
it's safe to look how good I've played tonight. It
is safe to trade for me.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
I'm all right.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Forget about Katie. Don't call for anybody else now, no, no, no, no,
you can come get me. It is absolutely cool. Look,
we beat the Mavericks. We held on. We want a
really tight game one eighteen one sixteen. I mean, look
look at what I did tonight. Come on, I came
back with a triple double, right was thirty eleven and ten? Yeah,
I am safety. It is safe to trade for me,
(08:55):
right now, go ahead, guys, come get me.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
And he said, look at it. Here's something I've been
working on, you know what.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Honestly right, you know, because you hear about trades and
the stars and hear you know, yolkis talking about, oh
you know, none of us are safe. The trade that
makes the most sense, right, If I'm thinking about something
going forward off of this. The trade that honestly makes
the most sense that I'd like to see happen. That
could happen with the you know, the Warriors supposedly calling
everybody across the league for a star, is the Warriors
(09:26):
and Sixers to make the EMBD trade. Put Embid on
the Warriors. I mean, I know that him and Steve
Kurr would have a lot to talk about. Hey, about
those d npcd's and the Olympics, Joel, He's about to
talk to you about stuff. But that's the one move
that makes a lot of sense in that. Okay, would
they have to pony up a ton No, probably not.
You're trading them out of conference, which would work? And
(09:49):
how long do you really have to worry about mbid? Right?
If you're the Warriors, you want him another couple of
years because that's really the rest of Steph Curry's prime, right,
thirty six, thirty seven? How much longer does he really
have left? That's the one move that makes sense because
you can make the money work. You can give the
Sixers a younger player, and maybe that motivates Joel Embiid
being on the Warriors, being in that culture again, he
(10:11):
and Steve Kerkr allowed to work on because the DNPC
and he's in the Olympics, and Kurr is probably saying, oh,
if I know we could get embid, I would have
been nicer to me. I would have played the more
at the Olympics. We would have won anyway, because Stephan
was gonna make all the shots at the end. But
I'm telling you, that's the trade that makes them. That's
what I'd like to see. If you just want to
go get a star, and if the Warriors want to
get a star, and let's go get somebody well to
(10:31):
pair with Steph. Hey, get a big to come in
that he can play with and play around, and let's
try to make that work. That's the one that makes
the most sense.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Told you it was a long play. It's a long con.
Steve Kerr was playing chess knowing eventually.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Hey, he'll be motivated, it'll be mad at me.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Everybody needs a common enemy, and in that case, Steve
Kerr became the guy for what not, doling out minutes,
knowing that eventually at the trade deadline they'd be looking
to get one.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Of these guys.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
So if you were sulty about your Olympic experience. Get ready,
you can come and play some meaningful minutes for us
and propel us to greatness. And you can complain to
Steph the entire time because he's here for.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Hey, Steph, I want you with me. When I talked
to Joel, why because he's still really mad about the
Olympics thing. So i'd just be here with me and
just say, hey you, hey, look some things happened. I mean,
I'm not proud of how I act, and I'm sure
you're not proud of how you acted. Both of us
would like to have doovers on it. Just Hey, we're
here to win a championship. Let's let's just go all
do it together. Joel, come on, you and I.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Let's do it.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
But did I not get you to the Promised Land?
Did you not get an Olympic medal? You weren't winning
gold with the other you know nations that you decided
not to go with you You got what you needed
too from us. Look, there's still what two more years
on Embiid's deal before a player option year cap hits
(11:53):
sitting around a nice robust sixty two ish on average
the next two years. But if you can get him
to come in and play motivated basketball. That's the thing
with a lot of these guys, it's the are you
motivated because they're at that point in their career, They've
made a lot of money, maybe they've done some winning,
(12:14):
and now we fight the injury bug. I mean, for
Joel Embiid, you would love a change of scenery, right,
I love that Rick Buker last hour throughout the well
maybe Paul George, I'm on the on the move again,
which would be an interesting concept. But you're looking at
a guy who's been available when you go back, including
those first couple of years, he's had a magnificent run
(12:36):
because frankly, there were points where I never thought he
was going to get on a damn court with the
early injuries that he had. But he's he's been available
fifty two percent of the time as a member of
the Sixers. Perhaps greener pastures, perhaps a new opportunity, motivation
and for Steph Curry, one last hurrah to try.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
To go out and win.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
You're doing with the current formulation of that squad. Although
a reunion with Kate would be kind of fun, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Oh yeah, No, let's go KD and and be get
KD whoa, whoa, whoa.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Now you're just talking.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Crazy, guys. What you got from it?
Speaker 5 (13:13):
When they make the nobody is safe in the League movie,
it's gotta be with Liam Neeson.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Right, sure, Yes, he's the one that can save you. Like,
if Liam Neeson shows up to save you, you won't
get traded.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
And he breaks into their house. Yeah, and he makes
it even even if Blake Griffin's there with a chair
and he's on the phone, apps him in half and
he tells him I have a particular set of skills,
but I will get Joel Embiid out of Philadelphia and
to Golden State.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Oh no, you can't do that.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
You can't do that.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
No, I understand how that this cereal is just for kids.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Yeah, and Neisen's like eighty and he could still pull
that off. I think, why not? Sure? Yeah, he did
that move. What was that movie he did, like the
whole taken rip off? He was like the whole bit
happened like the Alaska pipeline or something like that.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
But he was a couple.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, was that was that the one?
Speaker 3 (13:57):
I'm like, I don't know, He's done a million of them.
At this point, they all kind to blend together.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Hey, you know, hey, he's type he got to be
seventy five and he got type cast. All that.
Speaker 5 (14:06):
He was taken with an eye, all taken with an
eye and a heart, over the over the end.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
I really want to go through the IMDb and look
at the last ten years of his career.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
What's he what's he done?
Speaker 1 (14:17):
None of us are saying none of this stuff, none
of us.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Let's say there's a movie called Absolution. What's his character name?
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Thug?
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Oh? Sure, okay, here you go from the.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
Land of Saints and Sinners Retribution. I mean he was
Mark Philip Marlow. That was pretty He's.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Almost like like in the Stephen Sagall part of where
he's just doing all these movies. Now, the same character
in all these movies is making a movie after movie
after movie.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
And he did a short film where he narrated talking
about the country of Ireland.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
He got The Ice Road, Black Light, The Marksman, The Hunger. Yeah,
these are all the thief.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Yeah, this is Stephen Sagall two point oh this Stephens.
Speaker 3 (14:56):

as the newest member of the Lakers, and the Lakers
went out and celebrated tonight by absolutely pasting the Clippers
(18:12):
in a game that was never close. The Lakers got
the lead in the first minute of the game and
never looked back. One twenty two ninety seven is the final,
just went final moments ago. We'll hear from hopefully here
from Lebron James. Maybe here from Luca Tonight, who sat
on the bench for his first game with the Lakers.
Maybe we'll make his debut later on this week. Lebron
twenty six nine assists, eight rebounds, just shy of his
(18:35):
second straight triple double. Twenty points each from Austin Reeze
and Ruey Hatchimore. The Lakers shoot fifty five percent from
the floor. They blew out the Clippers and they are ready.
You can tell the energy in the building. They it
was a Clipper home game. They are ready for the Luka.
Dontch era, You buried the lead? Okay? What did I bury?
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Six minutes?
Speaker 4 (18:56):
One for one yeah, three point shots yeah no, no,
two free throws might have hurt Bones Highland.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
I mean he attacked him viciously.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Yeah, defense, and okay, he didn't really Bones Highland got it,
threw himself off balance and it looked bad on the television,
but replay would show that Browny James was just playing
some tough nosed defense. But he got six minutes in
the in the burials sit. We did get some brawny time.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Maybe I was saving that to give you a surprise
with a highlight soon. But that's okay, buddy. You wanted
to make sure you said so, okay. So now that
surprise is done. It's like you're the guy that would
go down and open up Christmas presents before everybody got up.
Oh look, I couldn't wait anymore. I wanted to open
this up. You're that guy and then smash all the
ones that are well.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
No, no, no, no, but how much are we really going
to talk about this game? It's a twenty five point
burial that was never closed. Clippers no shown in a
big night on National TV showing the the second also
ran squad that they.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
Are I'm sorry the bulls are bad, buddy. I'm sorry
about that.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
It's got nothing to do with the point. Yeah, I'm
just wildcat.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Maybe maybe I had it all set up for surprise,
but now you ruin. You ruined the surprise. You took
your brother, you got a book that was you got
Weathering Heights, and your brother got a truy got a bicycle,
and you threw the bicycle through the window. I can't believe.
I don't want to tell you.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
I appreciate elevating, you know, the gift giving that my
mom would have picked out Weathering Heights or other assorted
classic h.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
That's one of my favorite books of all time, Weathering Heights.
I read that in high school. I was like, Wow,
this is incredible. Uh so Luka. Doncic met the media
today for the first time as a member of the
Lakers and gave a long press conference and and everything.
He said, Hey, you expected to hear and you wanted
to hear. How excited he was. The trade was a
bit of a shock form. But he's ready to go forward.
(20:49):
But there's three seconds of this press conference that he
had that makes you understand that the Mavericks traded him
for a reason. Still, here we are three days later,
and I'm getting stuff from people who should know better,
like NBA players and pundits and TV hosts that are saying, uh, dude,
(21:09):
Mavericks are just stupid. What were they doing. They didn't
wake up on Saturday and decide to trade Luca, right,
Nico Harrison didn't wake up going no, what not gonna say, Well,
I'm gonna go to the Farmer's Market. I'm gonna I'm
gonna go I'm gonna make that big smoothie that I
wanted to make for lunch, Gonna try that out. Then
I'm gonna trade Luka Doncic. Then I'm gonna go have dinner.
Then I'm gonna come back tonight and play a little Oculus,
then go to bed. I mean, that's not what happened.
They traded Luca for a reason. There are lots of
(21:33):
reports though Mavericks were not happy with him, and many
reports that he was not happy with the Mavericks. But
this three seconds tells you exactly what you need to
know about Luca and his relationship with Dallas, because you're
gonna hear him when he talks to the beginning about
how he feels about the trade and leaving the Mavericks.
Then he tries to change the subject, But listen to
the first three seconds. This is Luca getting asked, hey,
(21:55):
how do you feel about what's going on in the
last couple of days and now here you are in
Los Angeles, know, getting dealt by the Mavericks. Dallas is
terrible city. N Okay, First of all, it's not Ivan
Drago from Rocky. You mean, if he dies, he dies,
that's not That's not how Rocky says Drago. That's how
(22:15):
dragon dragon, you know, drag dragon. But Rocky says dragon
when he yells it's.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
Dragon like he's yelling con stolen directly from.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
You know that, you know the line that that really
is underrated from Dolphin. I think he has like four
lines in the entire in the entire movie. Is when
you know, when when Paula says, put your hands up,
Trump says it's time to go to school, and he
hits him and his hands don't move, and Drago just says,
you will lose, and he walks like that's so underrated.
(22:50):
Uh So again, here's Luca when he's asked about where
he's at right now after the trade from the Mavericks.
If he dies, he dies.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Whoa, whoa, whoa whoa?
Speaker 5 (22:59):
Now come on, come on, No, not I mean his
career kind of he went to Dallas, dude, not.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
What he said, we'll have more on a d in
a half hour. You don't need to eight. He doesn't
need to. You don't need to swerve by and uh
and give a little sideway swipe to a d on
here making I.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Don't know, you've gone out of your way to hammer
Spencer dinwittyever, like you just hate the name.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Didn't but doesn't that's a surname.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Doesn't that make sense though, my Spencer Dinwitty point with
Luka Doncic makes sense with Spencer DINWITTI.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Yeah, but you, I mean, you got a lot of
guys in NBA history that you can go and you know,
hit upside and.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Take fine fine. Quentin Grimes, then I'll say, Quentin Grimes,
how about that? He got? All right? So again, here's
Luka Doncic, because I think Tyshirt is out of things
to say with his Ivan Drago Luca impression, uh, talking
about what it feels like getting dealt by the Mavericks
to the Lakers.
Speaker 5 (23:51):
Well, they called the Knicks first, and I laughed and said, no, oh,
so Borat is now being asked Lakers are best.
Speaker 7 (23:58):
At some point I knew this was gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Netlis our number one TAMON conference, but not anymore, not
all right now here. So then, of course, when I
had the great one liner Tightier plays a sound by
all right, so here it is. Here's Luca listened to
the first three seconds of what he has to say.
I don't like Dallas anymore. Come on, man, you're killing
(24:22):
me and you're killing America. I want to th shwarma.
First we save the world, then schwarma. Okay, right, all right, So.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
At some point I knew this was gonna happen. But
I would say I always take the high road, you know.
I had amazing moments in Dollars with all my teammates,
coaches and the most important defense, you know, and it
was it was an amazing journey.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Oh wait, wait, what do you say? Right there in
the beginning, I always knew it was gonna end this
way one more time. The first three seconds at as
soon as they took my beer, I was out.
Speaker 7 (24:55):
At some point I knew this was gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Yeah, at some point I knew this was going happen.
Talking about the trade from Dallas, which tells you this
is not the Mavericks. For no reason, just decided to
deal Luca Dantic away. And as much as Luca wanted
to make sure everybody knew today, he had no idea
why they treaded him. They never had a conversation with
me about the money. All this we didn't know we
didn't know. They traded him for a reason, right, And
(25:21):
you could agree or disagree with the reason, but the
bottom line is the Mavericks didn't want to go forward.
They didn't want to pay him three hundred and fifty
million dollars the end of this year because he's always
getting hurt, he's not staying in shape. They couldn't get
him to be that guy. Right. He's had three soft
tissue injuries in the last couple of years. He misses
all kinds of games, and you know, other stuff had
to be going on as well behind the scenes, because
(25:44):
suddenly Lucas said today, yeah, maybe he can make his
debut later on this week when they play the Pacers.
Wait a minute. He hasn't played since before Christmas, and
there was no timetable on his return for the Mavericks.
There was no hey, Luca's getting close, Maybe another couple
of days. There was none of that. But all of
a sudden, he gets traded and suddenly, yeah, I could
play this week. What do I always tell you about
(26:06):
players who were done playing for the team they're on,
If they're injured in sitting out, they miraculously heal when
they get traded. I mean, look at Joel EMBII. He
miraculously healed tonight because he knows the trading deadline is
in a day and a half and this is the
last time he's got a chance to show anybody, Hey,
you could trade for me. It is okay. So you
had two instances from today where okay, well Lucas suddenly
(26:28):
is good enough to play. And I always knew it
would end this way. This isn't Wait a minute, I
thought you said you were going to spend your whole
career with Dallas. You expected to retire there. Now I
always knew it would end this way. So you know
there was stuff there from both sides. And again you
can agree or disagree why what the Mavericks got for
him and trading him, But you can't sit here and
(26:49):
just knee jerk and default to they don't know what
they're doing. You don't trade a player like this. You
try to make it work. That's the other big argument
that the last couple of days. No, you don't trade
a guy's a top three velo. You try to make
it work. Oh, you don't think Dallas tried to make
it work. You don't think they think they just said, hey,
look we'd like you to stay in shape more. I
think I'm okay, we're trading you. No, you don't think
(27:10):
they tried to make it work. They obviously got to
a point where they were uncomfortable paying him. He didn't
want to be there because you know, he was upset
as well. So they decided, hey, we will bite the bullet,
will make the trade. We'll get back a top ten
NBA player. Ad is the best player you could possibly
get back. That if from a team that's going to
(27:30):
trade a star to get Luka Doncic. The Thunder aren't
trading Gilgess Alexander. The Knicks aren't trading Brunson. The Celtics
aren't trading Jason Tatum. The Bucks aren't trading Giannis. Oh
you gotta go. Yeah, they got the best player they
could in the deal. You want empty first round picks,
that don't mean anything. That's ridiculous, man. First round picks
in the NBA means squat. You get lucky. They're lottery tickets.
(27:52):
You wanted Spencer Dinwiddie players. You wanted three Quentin Grimes, Hey,
that'd be better. You got three good rotation guys. Oh,
because that's what you want. You want rotation. Guys, you
trade a star, you traded a star. You got a star,
albeit not quite as big as the star you traded away.
But in the end, when you need to move on
and you want to make sure you get something, you
want to make the best deal you can. You have
(28:13):
ad for the next couple of years. You think you
can make a run ad Kyrie, Maybe you can, and
maybe you make other moves as well, because now you
have a lot of money freed up that you're not
paying Luca Doncs at the end of this year, so
maybe it's gonna work. But just understand that there was
a reason why this happened. And as much as Luca
wants to say, I don't know, I don't know, I
don't know, you know their stuff. And the best part
is we're gonna find that out sometime soon. Because the
(28:36):
Mavericks tried to be the good guys in the last
couple of days and say, hey, we had a chance
to trade for a great player and defense wins championships.
Even though that was stupid. I get what Nico Harrison
was doing, right, We're not gonna disparage him on the
way out the door. But then Luca's dad gets mad,
and now Lucas says, today, I didn't do anything. Yeah,
we will find out in short order from Dallas insiders
(28:57):
who are gonna get information leaked to them. This is
what happened recently, this is what we've gone on within
the last couple of years. We're gonna find this stuff
out at some point and then you're gonna understand, Oh,
this is why the Mavericks made this trade. So just
get there's a reason why they tried. They knew they
knew them the best off anybody for seven years, and
they decided. They had their reasons. It's not like they
(29:18):
just decided one day I feel like trading them. If
I didn't wake up feeling like trade them, I wouldn't
have traded them. But today was an I felt like
trading them, so I did. It's not gonna happen, yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:26):
I mean, there's there's a lot that goes goes into it. Right,
You've got a long history who the devil? You know
the devil you don't uh, You've got access to all
his medical records. Forget about with the weight for a second,
because the calf injury, maybe partially weight related, might just
now have a chronic injury that could potentially become something
(29:48):
else when it comes to nerves, atrophy, other issues that
happen in your leg. Right, we've all, you know, gone
hypochondriac with different injuries in our are half ass Sunday softball, basketball, whatever,
and you start looking up what things can can occur
(30:09):
after a strain or in this case, repeated serious injuries
to a body part that's not suddenly gonna go away
no matter how much money you throw at it in
terms of treatment. So potential long term there, regardless of weight.
But then certainly inactivity doesn't help you there. They've made
(30:30):
another number of moves, they've had injuries. Right, Lively is
out with a foot injury. He's not going to be
back for another month. Maybe, you know, in the terms
of roster construction, thought he should have had a bigger
voice as they try to climb back after the finals
run and was kind of maybe told to stand off
(30:51):
to the side. We've got this and wanted more a
part in building what the next iteration would be, especially
if he was going to be the cornerstone making three
hundred and fifty million dollars that usually comes with a
little bit of sway and say in a locker room
and roster composition, maybe he wasn't happy with his side
(31:13):
of things there from the Maverick side. Yeah, you're looking
at long term. We talked with Rick Buker earlier in
the in the show, and what did he bring up.
It's like, it's it's not a matter of hey, here's
three hundred and fifty million for the great seven years
that we've had with you. It's the all right, what
are we gonna win going forward? How do we build
(31:33):
around a guy making that kind of money? Oh, where
we're gonna probably have to work twenty games a year,
plus potential for some playoff misses, to have a roster
that can still battle in a crowded Western conference.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
All of that to.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Say, you know, you hit a point where the deadline
is looming. You get an old buddy, an old friend
to take a phone call, a relationship that you don't
necessarily have with all of these other gms, which I
think is being downplayed in all of this. Not just
a matter of can I go into the marketplace and
get star X in return? It's a do I have
(32:09):
a relationship with a guy to even have that conversation clearly,
Rob Bolinka rolled up his sleeves, all right, He didn't have.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
To roll up his sleeves.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
The jokes right themselves, and you were able to make
this trade and consummate it pretty quickly under cover of night.
It doesn't mean it's great, doesn't mean everybody wins, but
in the moment, it's what you had exit.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
How about a Fresco exit swollen dome. Jason Smith Mike
Carmon live from the Tirac dot Com studios, down time
to find out what's trending from a guy who's been
called the Nico Harrison of Fox Sports Radio. He makes big,
bold decisions and people don't like him. It's Steve de Sager. No,
it's just because nobody's heard of me either.
Speaker 8 (32:50):
Oh, everything's final in the NBA, and Dallas did lose
by two at Philadelphia one eighteen one sixteen. Joelle Embiide
after the Bad Neighbor return from a month off at
a triple double, including twenty nine points. One of the
late games was in La. Lakers won at the Clippers
one twenty two to ninety seven. Lebron James twenty six points,
nine assists, Austin Reeves twenty points, nine assists. Lakers scored
(33:14):
forty five points in the first quarter when they shot
seventy five percent from the floor. Portland's won nine of
ten after beating Indiana, Chicago came back to beat Miami,
Boston got a win at Cleveland, and New York won
at Toronto won twenty one one fifteen Karl Anthony Towns
despite a sort Ney twenty seven points twenty rebounds. Brooklyn
(33:35):
stole one from Houston with a couple of late threes
ninety nine ninety seven Kevin Durant to the Suns doubtful
for Wednesday with a spring to ankle.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
In late night.
Speaker 8 (33:43):
College basketball ten minutes to go, Number twenty Arizona now
leads at BYU sixty five sixty one. Ucla at home
ups at number nine Michigan State sixty three sixty one
Bruins with only three turnovers Spartans had sixteen, and at
number twenty five Old Miss, the home team beat number
four Kentucky ninety eight eighty four. Ole Miss, which had
(34:03):
one turnover in the game, led by twenty three points
at the half. Among the fourteen NHL games, Edmonton won
in overtime at Saint Louis Winnipeg won at seventh straight,
three nothing over Carolina, Boston win three nothing, Jets win.
That's all right, Nick Lowry field goal took care of it.
Boston a three nothing win over Minnesota. And speaking of
(34:24):
field goals, former Green Bay kicker Mason Crosby retired. He
did not play last year.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Beck to you know, I want to say the Jets
actually what the Jets did win a game three nothing
against Washington in nineteen ninety four, and I want to
say Nick Lowry made the field goal. They wondered like
three nothing over one of the worst football games you'll
ever want to.
Speaker 8 (34:41):
Watch, the most Mark Moseley era.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
Yes, definitely post Mark Moseley. Yes, thank you, Steve. The
Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Carman coming
up next. The Super Bowl is still a few days away,
but already one big Super Bowl star said, yes, I
am coming back next year. Who is it? We'll tell
you next Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My My
best friend Mike Harmon live athetirerack dot com. Studios. I
now run Lakers. We have more NBA coming up in
about ten minutes because boy, wait, doll, we tell you
the superstar that had the all time no good, terrible,
horrible Judy Bummer Summer Day. But big news out of
(35:34):
the Super Bowl today. We've still got five days to
go before the game, and we already know one big
star is coming back next year, chief said coach Andy
Reid says, I will be back for at least one
more season with the Chiefs, and that's for certain. I
enjoy what I'm doing way too much. He can't put
the work in and not enjoy it. So he's coming
(35:54):
back for at least next year. Now, just for a second,
he's coming back for more than next year. This is
Reid being smart, not putting a clock on it, saying
I'm gonna do three, four or five. I'm gonna come
back next year and I'm gonna do it. And just
to think about how weird things break in life, when
when when they break ways, you don't expect. The entire
(36:17):
two thousands and in the teens and going on, it was,
boy is Bill Belichick going to break the record for
most wins all time? Right? He's gonna catch Don Shula
as long as he's got Brady's gonna keep winning games.
And real boy kicking Brady out and starting over again
not exactly the way to do it. And Belichick now
is basically done in the NFL. Right, he didn't get
hired two years. Now he's coaching North Carolina. He's got
(36:40):
three hundred and thirty three wins. He is fourteen short
of Don Shula's record of three forty seven. Meanwhile, here's
Andy Reid who's gonna be sixty seven next year and
still has Patrick Mahomes for the back half of his career.
Now you count playoff games in this too, and Reid
is at two ninety six. Right, so he is fifty
one wins of Don Shula's mark, which is basically five
(37:04):
more years of just ten win seasons. Now he can
you go fourteen to fifteen win seasons, or for fifteen
sixteen win seasons if you count the playoffs, and maybe
he does it in four years, but he's still young enough.
It's not like he's seventy four seventy five. And look
with Pete Carroll getting a job now at seventy four,
I mean that's not gonna be that big a thing.
As long as the Chiefs keep winning, as long as
(37:26):
Mahomes is happy, he's still playing. Well, it's gonna be
Andy Reid who breaks the all time record for twenty years.
It was gonna be Belichick's gonna do it, but maybe
not twenty but for the last like ten twelve years,
Belichick's gonna do it. He's gonna break that record. Boy,
it's gonna be very polarizing because the spygate and all
this other stuff. And it turns out he's not even
gonna get there, and Andy Reid's gonna pass him and
(37:46):
he's gonna have that record at some point in the
next five years.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
Oh, it's good. Good for business.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
We love record chasing, right, it was Bill Belichick chasing
Shula and Tiger Woods was over there.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Gonna win a lot of majors.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
And then we've got Andy Reid who's just cruising along
and you know all the storylines. We get him against
the Eagles again, we'll see the kick pass punt competition,
because I mean.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
We have to.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
There's hours and hours of pregame on Fox. You should
listen to and watch it all.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
And they could just run stuff straight from the last
couple of years, and hey, we're gonna take a half
hour break. We're gonna run the Andy Reid stuff that
we've run the last couple of years.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
No, just update a couple of the data points with
a voice over and away you go. Man, You got
that just laid out for you perfectly. But I mean,
think about all those years in Philadelphia. Was he ever
gonna win a game?
Speaker 3 (38:41):
You know, a big game? What a lot of games?
Speaker 4 (38:44):
He and Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook too shows up. Now
t O's in a slap fight with Michael Irvin. That
was a fun one that started to boil over in
the the subplots off of all the media appearances, and
eventually you do one interview too many and you get
a little.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
Loose with your lips.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
But maybe there's just some other stuff that's just just stating.
But for Andy Reid it was all about you know,
it's a lot of empty wins. And he eventually leaves
the Eagles, goes to the Chiefs. He's got Alex Smith
and lo and behold there comes Patrick Mahomes and here
we are on this historic run Sunday.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
The next iteration, But yeah, why would you walk away.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
If you're feeling good, you're healthy, and you've got a
group that just they listen and there's no message getting
stale because winning cures all.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
Man.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
Look, if this was a case of where if Reid
was too old or I thought the Chiefs were gonna
suddenly look they're going to lose all their playmakers. But no,
they have shown that they are able to just roll
over from one set of wide receivers and running backs
to the next and make reinvention.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Right.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
Yeah, the different styles of winning.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
I mean, really, you're thinking Reid is in the next
three years, Reid is probably good for at least what
thirty five wins, probably more right. I mean, this is
just the next.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
Time Harbaugh and Pete Carroll have anything. I'm not to
mention that pesky Payton guy.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
This is not even winning the super Bowl. This is just, hey,
winning ten games during the regular season and maybe a
couple in the playoff. Let's say don't win the super Bowl.
That's still good for thirty six wins in three years.
Like he's knocking on the door in year forty seventy
one years old. He's knocking on that door. Man, Just
to we thought Belichick was gonna do it now. He's
gonna be third overall.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
He gets a comment on it all.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Coming up next. What NBA superstar really did not have
a great day. We'll tell you next Fox
