Hello, Welcome in side hour to the Jason Smith Show

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Well drug Cobo live from the tirack.

is the way tire buying should be. Well, a big
first hour of the show. We had the big Jimmy
Butler trade that broke up. More in the NBA tre
deadline coming up in a couple of minutes. But the
(01:02):
big news that came in just as we started the show.
Frostburg got to break the news to me here alive
on the air. Pete Alonzo is back with the Mets
after a long protracted situation with exhausting negotiations. Alonzo returns
to the Mets two years, fifty four million dollars, thirty
million for this year, ten million dollars signing bonus, and
(01:25):
now Pete Alonzo can hit free agency again potentially after
this year.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
If he has a big year.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
It's it's a win for everybody, right, I've said it's
a win for Alonzo, it's a win for the Mets.
The big loser in this though, because it's always a loser, right,
because I was all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, Pete Peepe.
The loser obviously is Scott Boris, who is one player
away from his reputation being in the toilet.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Right if he didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Have won Soto and couldn't sit here at trot out Hey,
largest contracted professional sports history, he is on a huge
ass losing streak man. His four best guys all sat
out last year until the end of spring training before
they signed. None of them got the deals they wanted,
some of them fired him, and now the two big
(02:13):
guys he had this year Soto. Obviously, Soto is gonna
get paid, and he's got Pete Alonzo and Pete Alonzo
winds up not getting nearly the money he could have
gotten a year ago. And it was a gamble that
didn't work right because now instead of you know, a
seven year, one hundred and sixty million dollars deal that
Alonzo could have had last year, it's two years, fifty
four million, and maybe he opts out. I mean, this
(02:36):
is you know, he's lost one hundred million dollars in this,
him and Luca Dodge. I don't know who's lost more
money recently, him or Luca. Luca wad Peter also lost
a hundred million last year.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
He's guys losing money. Well, what was the number of
years on the.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
It was seven and one.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Fifty four seven four, So it's one hundred million dollars
twenty yeah, but that comes out to twenty two million
dollars year.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
So yeah, but you've played two years for fifty four Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
And you don't know how that's gonna go suck.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
And that's the thing you but Joly thirty, Yeah, but
you haven't lost it yet, Like Luzo legitimately has to
go and hill for some cola companies to try to
get some ad money to get those dollars back because
there's a finite number of years on the way those
deals work. But look, he's a thirty year old first
baseman and he's coming off his worst year and.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
There you know, how is he going to age? You
don't know? No, the AAV Yeah, of course the AAV.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Is down, but this is still if he doesn't hit, well,
guess what, man, in two years, what are you getting?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
One year? Twelve million? Prove it right?
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Ten years as Cooper Gooding junior. All right, I had
a lesser free agent on the tour during the Super
Bowl week when it's all.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
About cush, cush, cush.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
But I mean eventually, you know he's gonna be negotiating
deals for Gunner Henderson and the likes, so he'll make
up the AAV right there.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Think But I mean, look, I mean that's losing a
lot and that and that's and that's on Boris, right,
And this is the reason, this is the real criticism
for Scott Boris not that Scott Boris is the devil.
He doesn't know what he's doing. He does, he puts
his own needs ahead of his client's needs. Now, the
real thing with Boris is that he knows one way
to do things right.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
One way as an agent.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
He know, his big strategy with a big player is
We're gonna sit out as long as we can, and
I'm going to put teams against each other and get
a bidding war going, and you're gonna wind up. Then
you're gonna wind up signing getting all kinds of money.
I'm gonna make sure you opt out. You're not gonna
sign any deal with your hometown team for a little
bit less money. No, I know I can get you
(04:43):
the money you need. And the problem with that is
is that sometimes it works great right when you have one.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
So sometimes that works great.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Sometimes when your client is a guy coming off his
worst year in baseball, are you really going to are
you really doing the right thing with him? Like, everybody's
situation is unique, and you have to be able to
adapt if you're going to if you're going to be
a great agent for everyone, Because there's lots of guys
that are firing Scott Boris because Hey, guy didn't get
(05:13):
me the money I thought I was gonna get. He's
got to be able to adapt, and you adapt to
your client and their needs of what the best deal
is at this moment for your client. But instead it's
the one way he does it, which is I keep
you out as long as possible, We wait till the
last minute, and then and then we sign. It's like
Billy Bean does the whole handclap adapt or die right
with in moneyball. That's the whole thing with Scott Bor.
(05:33):
You have to adapt to your individual client who maybe
maybe this is the deal right here, Maybe waiting for
as long as we can is not going to be
in the cards, and maybe we come back for a
little bit like this is what you get paid the
big money for, right, this is why you get That's
why you get that money. So maybe instead of waiting,
waiting all the way to the end and getting two
years and fifty four million, maybe this was, Hey, the
market's not going this way, maybe I can get you
(05:56):
three years and ninety million with the mets.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Right, let's do that.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Like a month ago, maybe that could have been on
the table, or a month and a half ago that
could have been on the table. But instead this is
what you wind up doing. He's got to be able
to adapt. That's the big thing is he does it
one way, and that's not always the best way.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
Well, since if that does come out, I want to
know what members of the Mets front office want to
go and say, hah, we got over because he could
have gotten more and he turned it down. But in
the interim, right, I mean, this is why you hired
Scott Boris though, Right, you know what he is. It's
the old Hey, you're crossing the river and you have
(06:31):
a scorpion on your back and then eventually he stings
you in the middle of the.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Hey, hey, you knew the risk.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
So the same thing with Boris here at some point,
not only is there potentially some scorched earth with some
of these ball clubs, with gms who've been played by
him in the past, right, pitting guys against each other,
and the gamesmanship that goes there, and certainly you've taken
a couple of l's. What was it it was Jordan Montgomery, Right,
(07:03):
that was the worst signing in the team's history. Was
the end of season State of the Union. Oh yeah,
we did that.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
That was just terrible.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Okay, And immediately here's a giant picture of Scott Morris
that goes scrolling past you as you talk about that deal.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
But it's the changing face.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
Of a marketplace. Right at the adapter, Die it's a
good thing. I've I've retained him short term because it's
all about Boris and team Harmon, you know, to get
all I can. But he's got pages upon pages of
the asses and seats and all of those things. But
you know what you get in and bring him right
vigorous representation to a fault, and you may not hear
(07:49):
what a good offer is because he decides it's not
a good offer.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
Right.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
You're you're the player and family or whoever else are
your sounding boards. The idea that you brought and bring
Boris and his agency is you've entrusted them to assemble
all those buyers, all all of those comps, all of
those things that he's going to get the best, and
then you have to determine what best is in his
(08:16):
it's just what's my What's what's the dollar number?
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Right, what's the AAV that's it?
Speaker 4 (08:22):
And as a player, you may have some other considerations,
and now is the time where maybe you've got a
bit of a turning point. And for major League Baseball,
you know, agents, we don't have a lot of guys
that we talk about by name, right, it's him.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
And it just you know, but the thing I keep
going back to this is that he's the super agent
and and I get it, but like I said, you
have to at some point, you know, you like a pitcher,
You got to become a pitcher and not just a thrower.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
And I feel like that's Scott Boris.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
He's a thrower, right, and he throws ninety eight hundred
miles that eventually that fastball ticks down to ninety six.
Gotta f you're something else out and need a couple
of other pictures. That's kind of where I'm at with Boris, Like, dude,
you need you need to be more of a thrower now.
You need to be more of a picture now and
less of a thrower. I think I think we're at
that point.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
I got to get on board with that.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
But yeah, it's just that curiosity of you know, other
agents stepping up to say, hey, I can play in
this territory because you got Boris and then Wolf Clothes.
I mean these are all guys that I mean, they're
not household guys. I mean they're big, big client bases,
but not the same thing like we talk about with
the NBA or some of the NFL guys.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Now, the other big news we got like bay Prints
right before we came out in the air, double barrel
of big news. Pet A Lonzo signs with the Mets
and Jimmy Butler gets dealt to the Golden State Warriors. Right,
We'll have Mark Stein joining us less than an hour
from now to help us break it all down. Big
deal Warriors wind up sending Andrew Wiggins Kyle Anderson top
ten protected.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Pick to the Heat.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Now Dennis Shrewder is gonna go to the Utah Jazz
as a as a a third team to make this
trade work. So the one thing that I've seen that's
been really popular since this, since his trade went down,
is that uh Warriors gave up more for Jimmy Butler
than the Lakers gave up for Luca. And I look
at this and I go, how many people can you
(10:16):
really be that stupid? I mean, really, who would you
rather have? Jimmy Butler or Anthony Davis? Who would you
rather have? Tell me right now, who would.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
You rather have? You'd rather have Anthony Davis.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
It's like Anthony Davis went from while he's a Laker,
he's he's so talented and he's the best player, the
most talented player in the game. Maybe not the best,
but his talent up and down, what he does is
a big and yes, he won the championship, but he
could do more, he could be even better.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
He's underachieving. He's this gollag.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
He's he should be He's so good, he's so good,
he's so good, he should be doing more. And now
the Lakers trading for Luca and it's oh, you traded
eight the eastinks. He ad just stinks, man, that's all
you gave up for a d is A is an
All NBA player. He was an All NBA player last year.
He's got two or three more really really good years
left because he's a big and yet by the time
(11:04):
he gets to be thirty five. Okay, but you're looking
at the next two or three years, right if you
think we can we can move stuff around here with
the Mavericks, that we can do it.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
And what are we gonna get?
Speaker 1 (11:14):
That's what player. There was no single player that the
Mavericks were gonna get that's better than Anthony Davis. Nobody, no,
nobody was gonna trade a better player to the Mavericks
than a d And they wound up getting a couple
of the guys in the first round pick. All the
whining about not getting a first round picker, you should
have gotten more. It's like if you were trading Luka
Doncic and you did weren't gonna pay him, and you
(11:35):
didn't want to stay, what did you expect to do? No,
just stay and lose him for nothing. That's what good
teams do. We just let our guys play out the string.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
In meaningless games and lose them for nothing at the end.
Now leave Hardy Marino alone.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
You got you know, Nico Harrison, got brave, got bold,
make a deal. He's taken all the criticism for it.
But the guy got an All NBA player. Man, And
it's not like Luka Doncic is coming in and he's
coming in all wrapped in a bowl.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
Like.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
The guy's got injury issues of his own. He's got
his stay in shape, all of this stuff right. He
comes with a little bit of risk too. But for
all of all that, they didn't They gave up more
for Jimmy Butler than let the Lakers traded an All
NBA player. Yes, they got an All NBA player back
who's younger. I'm not saying the Lakers didn't do well
in the deal. But to suddenly sit here and say,
like people forgetting that Ad is a great player man.
(12:18):
I mean his last game before the deal was what
forty three and twenty three? Like, this is the kind
of guy he is, right and oh, by the way,
he's won a title. Luka, Doncic is not so I
really I feel like the goalposts are moving for this
and and the fluctuation of stock in Ad is just
not being represented fairly. I mean, the again all NBA
(12:39):
player and it happens, and it's not that's the best
trade you're gonna make.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
You show me a trade that was better. I'll say, okay, hey,
you blew it.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
You could have made a better trade, but there was
no better trade, and you got the best player you
were gonna possibly get. When you trade a star, you
got to get a star back, and they got a
star back. They didn't get three rotation guys you know
led by Ruey Hatchamora. Oh Heytchamore is a number one guy.
See I left out Spencer Didnwiddie for you?
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Yeah you know you did. Yeah you know.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Hey you got that, got brew got your Moore had
led three guys, gotcha more.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
We got this.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
No you got an All NBA player. Yeah, yeah, that
trade is better you got you got. Yes, you gave
up a lot for Jimmy Butler, But really, did you
have anything you were crazy about?
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Did you get anything you really couldn't give up? You trade?
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Okay, we're trading all the We're okay with trading. Andrew
Wiggins were okay with trading. Kyle Anders, We're okay with trading.
Dennis Shrewder, We're okay with doing Yeah. None of these
guys are big difference makers. Jimmy Butler could be a
big difference maker, but a D is a much bigger
difference maker. Abe greater than Jimmy Butler, no matter how
you cut it up.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
But that's that's the thing that's lost in all of this.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Like, I'm excited to watch what this next iteration of
the Lakers is for all the hyperbole and the fun
we had with it, you know, chuckling about it, you
know as it went down, Like legitimately, they're gonna be
a fun watch. Defensively, still some questions, but they've got
twenty four hours to see if they can make any
more adjustments to address that. But for for Dallas to
(13:58):
be dismissed. Yeah, there's parts and components of the process
that are a little odd and kind of quirky, But
the end result is you get a top notch guy
if he's healthy, and you have a team that can.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Go in and win.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
Right now, Lively is gonna come back from the foot injury,
Your rotation's gonna get solid.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
You got a lot of bigs.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
You can go play and make a little bit of
noise to get back into the playoff hunt uh and
try to chase chase teams down. But in the interim,
like the Jimmy Butler thing, like I wanted to go
back in and as you enumerated, I'm like, were there
more first round picks because it just became a longer
list of assets that come back, because it seems like
(14:41):
people really get impressed when there's like six or seven. Yeah,
if there's this, yeah, it's like quantity. It's like, you know,
here's a pile of toys. I used to give my
mom garbage for this. I'll wear out, you know here
on the on the show, Like the kids don't need
a bunch of little you know, nick knacks.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
They're gonna break after the first use. Buy him something useful.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Take the you know, aggregate cash, buy one or two
really good things.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
They don't need to be they'll go play with. The
paper in the box is.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Just the same, so just put those over to the side.
Just consolidated into something that may last.

As we creep closer and closer to the super Bowl,
we need to talk to this man who is about
to enshrine some very good players in the Pro Football
Hall of Fame. Longtime NFL Insider thirty third team Pro
Football Hall of Fame voter who potentially could be in
(16:48):
his last visit with us.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
If Antonio Gates does not get in the Hall of Fame,
go a ride. It is Jason Cale. What's happening, buddy?
How are you? Wow?
Speaker 5 (17:00):
Gut into my head? Isn't there? And it's not being
held by Woody Sheriff wy It's Sheriff Crosberg.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
This is it, man.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
If Antonio Gates doesn't get in, Frostburg said, this is
your last appearance on the show.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
I take him those words too. He's a serious man.
He's a very very serious man. You know, it's a
cry transition to go from once in a lifetime, but
the Talking Heads to share He's death. I gotta say that.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
We do things musically here on the show, Ja Cole,
we do.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
Yeah, it was quite wonderful. What's up, guys, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (17:43):
All right?
Speaker 1 (17:43):
So now before we get to the super Bowl, I know, look,
we have the Hall of Fame Classic.
Speaker 5 (17:48):
Jets are Jets are not trading for Miles Garrett. Just
want to let you know that we want to he
wants to go to a contender.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Yeah, no, no, I can see him. I can see
Robert Solid getting him. It's San Francisco. I can see
that going on. I can see the Niners cutting all
the guys they're paying fifteen million a year two and
getting Miles Garrett.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
I could see that.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
I can see that. I can say Baltimore saying, you
know we're going to go in on the paths thresher.
I mean, look how many teams. You know, you can
take the ten the fourteen teams that made the playoffs
and you just line them up and say, yeah, we'll
take them.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Yeah. He's a plug and play dude.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
Yeah, like, oh we have we have yeah, we have
aiden hut you we could we can use Yeah, we're good.
We'll take them. It's like he just he makes it
down any team many rosters, you just that's a that's
a headache you deal with if you did too many guys.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
All right, So now we are less than twenty four
hours away from NFL honors, we find out who the
Hall of Fame members of the class of twenty twenty
five are. I know, you can't tell us who's getting
in who you voted for, But is there in the like,
can you tell us, like who had the biggest debate
about them?
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Can you tell us something.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Inside that was a little shocking that doesn't betray who's
getting in and who's not.
Speaker 5 (19:09):
Who has the biggest I mean, I think it's sure
to say that Eli had the biggest debate. So yeah,
that's that's you know, that's quarterback. I mean he's the
biggest name. He's the biggest name on there. So yeah,
that was a big debate. I can just tell you that.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Did Peyton show up and liked it become like a
manning cast debate for the Hall of Fame?
Speaker 3 (19:30):
And that's what it was.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
I tell yeah, there was there was There was in
the lower corner, there was of the zoom call. There
was this one picture it said Maiten Shanning, and he
was a guy with the mustache. Yeah it was. And
he was like, yeah, that Eli Gout was good. He's good,
he's good.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
I'm thinking it's more like when he when they do
the Manning cast where he's trying to break down what's
going on on the screen.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
He doesn't understand what are the referees doing? Like, what
are you saying about? Eli? Manning?
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Was great under pressure? What are you talking about? What's
this guy saying about Eli Manning? That's how I see
that going.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
That would be awesome, would to be Cayden. I mean,
Peyton was not part of the call. Let's just say
that because right now, right now, people are willing to
believe just about anything, including that the NFL cares who
actually is in the super Bowl or who wins it
because the referees are setting it up like it just
(20:32):
it boggles my mind that people really think that the
league cares who wins the Super Bowl has the power
to do that kind of stuff. It's just it's just.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
Stunningly so that wasn't part of anybody's Hall of Fame debate. Hey,
if the referees weren't out to get this guy, he
would have been even better.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
There wasn't any of that.
Speaker 5 (20:50):
If the referees hadn't helped the Giants on the Tyreek
by standing in the way like that, then then he
never would have then won anything. Yeah, that was that
was That was part of the presentation.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Yes, okay, all right, it was all about.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
It was all about.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
It was.
Speaker 5 (21:10):
Look, there was a construction of a story over a
seventeen year period of time in which they were saying, Okay,
we're going to set it up, so ELI is going
to win championships, and that only when the Patriots have
gone through an entirely undefeated season. So we have to
make sure that the Patriots actually go undefeated to set
it up, and that you know, the Giants will go
nine and seven are in the ralar season, and then
(21:33):
we'll all of a sudden get it all together so
to be one of the most epic matchups and that'll
help ELI get into the Hall of Fame, and then
we'll just do it all over again like four years later.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
No, that's good. I mean it's like long lead once.
Speaker 5 (21:47):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh absolutely, this is Vince McMahon
was all over this. I mean he was so far
ahead of you know, helping Roger Goodell set this all up,
you know, so that Eli could get into the Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
Yeah, anniversary of the announcement of the XFL today, So
you got.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
That going for you?
Speaker 5 (22:05):
How did you happen to know that.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
It showed up in my timeline earlier? He spends a
lot of time on the internet, Jacob all.
Speaker 5 (22:11):
Day in this week with all the crap coming out
of New Orleans this week, you know about you know,
like they're clothing guys like so deep on the roster.
What was the one? I can't remember this. I got
to look this one up. Somebody announced it like they
made a big deal on somebody announcing their pick for
(22:32):
the Super Bowl. Is like, I can't remember that that
guy actually played in the league, But I got I
got to look it up, right.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Yeah, But I mean it's it's it's that kind of
week they said.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
Yeah, but that's it's that kind of weak. But out
of all the crap that comes out this week that
just like fills everybody's timeline and is on the emails
and just and it's just everywhere and omnipresent, the one
guy in the Arena League.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
Is the one you got well, I mean just because
it tied back to Vince McMahon, but and your conspiratorial stuff.
All that to say, how how spy is Roger Goodell
at the NBA dominating.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
This week because they're trading everybody. In fact, Jimmy Butler
is going to get traded again tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
We the NBA's pissed, dude. The NFL's taken over Christmas Day.
They're saying, we're taking super Bowl week. It's it's it's
it's it's for tat that's what's going on.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
Well, that's why they plant. That's why they planned out
the Luca the Luca trade. It was all being set
up immediately after Christmas Day. That's when Paulinka and Harrison
got together and said, we're going to ruin the NFL
by having the Luca trade the week before, and that'll
set up all the other trades this week too, so
that we show our dominance of the media as the
(23:52):
NBA is. It has been quite a week for the NBA.
You got to give them credit, and they picked the
right time because I don't think that outside of the
actual cities of Kansas City and Philadelphia that anybody really
cares about the Super Bowl. I really don't think that
anybody cares. That's how tuned out people are to the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Wow, do you lose your Hall of Fan answer? Did
you You're gonna lose your Hall of Fame vote? What
do you mean?
Speaker 5 (24:19):
I'm see, I'm just I'm just saying people don't. People don't.
They just are not excited.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
No, I think there's two I think there's two kinds
of super Bowls, Jacob. I think there's the Super Bowls
that have the buzz going into it, that's all anybody
can talk about. It's a super Bowl, and one hundred
and ten million people watch the game. And then there's
super Bowls like this where nobody really talks so much
about it throughout the week, and then one hundred and
ten million people watch the game. Riley, It's not like
(24:49):
I'm not going to watch the game. Like it's just
about the it's just about the lead up to it.
But the same people people are gonna watch. It's not
like something I'm not gonna watch.
Speaker 5 (24:56):
No, no, no, no, no, no no no no. I'm not
saying that. I'm not saying that people are not gonna watch. That.
Don't get me wrong, Like, this game's going to have
numbers you know that are astronomical. But I'm saying this
lead up week aside from NFL Network being in a kizzy, like,
I just don't think people are really focused on this game.
(25:16):
And then we'll get you know, they'll get there probably,
you know, late tomorrow Friday, people will start really worrying
about it. But I just I don't get the sense
that there's a lot of talk outside of New Orleans
and the represented cities about this game because we just
did it two years ago, right, And here's the play
Jason Bell. This is this is the email I got
(25:36):
Jason Bell Chiefs my pick to win the Super Bowl.
And I was like, doing Jason Bell, Who's Jason Bell?
I'm just trying to remember who he was, and I
just couldn't do it. I couldn't remember that, and I
was like, why am I getting an email? This is
just everything that's being thrown up. It's going to be
a great game. I love this game and I love
(25:57):
how it's going to play out, and whoever wins this
one is going to be fascinating. But again, lead up
to it leads leads a lot to be desired.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
If he wins.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
Does Nick Sirianni finally get left alone and maybe get
some respect for being able to coach? H?
Speaker 5 (26:16):
No, no, okay, it'll be just It'll just be Doug
Peterson too, and he'll be fungible, just like Doug Peterson
was fungible.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
Okay, I want to ask you. I'll ask you this,
Jake Cole, be honest with me. Can you see a scenarios?
Because I can't.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
Why do you ask me that? When am I not
honest with you?
Speaker 3 (26:34):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (26:34):
Well, we're not not with Was I not honest with
you about Minnie Sala? Was that? Was I not honest
with you talking about Gerard Mulo and that that Gate
study in in Paris? Yeah, I was honest with you
about that. I'm always honest with you.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
But I'm going to distract you a bit with something funny.
So that's why I want you to maintain your you know,
being focused on this is that because I can see
scenarios where the Eagles win the Super Bowl and they
win in a dominant fashion and Nick Sirianni still gets
fired after it?
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Wow?
Speaker 5 (27:17):
What so that they can somehow keep killing more the
most overrated offensive coordinaty in the league.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
I mean he always has one foot on the banana
peel man, no matter, no, Look, he's a terrific code
down two super Bowls in three years, but he always
feels he's got one foot The entire Eagles team has
one foot on the banana peel at all times.
Speaker 5 (27:37):
Well, he does make things harder than they need to be, right,
There's no question about that. And he is a guy
who I don't think he has very long shelf life.
So if you're asking me, is Nick sure and I
ant going to be the coach of the Eagles in
twenty thirty, I'm betting heavily against that because it just
(27:59):
I think he's one of those kind of live wire guys,
see of the pants kind of guys who doesn't really
necessarily have a plan, but it's working out for him, right,
But as long as he has as long as he
has Stangio next to him, and you know, they've got
all those stars on offense, like it'll be fine. They're loaded,
(28:24):
I mean, how it is. They have a great defensive coach,
they have Sirianna, who's very much representative of his city.
Like he's just you know, kind of a you know,
He's kind of an in your face Philly guy who
just you know, you know, just spits out whatever he
(28:45):
thinks and doesn't really have an idea like what direction
he's going to go, but it's going to somehow win.
And then they just they're loaded on offense. That's why,
like I look at Kellen Moore, I'm like, okay, you
straighten everything out, but like, really, we're giving you a
job at thirty six already, you know, because you weren't
(29:06):
that hot at stady In with the Chargers, sorry, the
Los Angeles Chargers, and you weren't all that great with
the Cowboys, but like you keep just moving up, you know,
because you're this fresh faced guy and you have this
big year. It's like, well, I can call plays for
Sequon Barkley, Like that's that part.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
I mean, give me that offensive line and yeah absolutely.
Speaker 5 (29:33):
Yeah, well, especially I've got the two outside receivers and yeah,
Jalen Hurts is not a great quarterback, but he's still
got some things that he's functioning a lot, Like you
can still run the ball, and he's tough enough and
he'll and he can get you know, to Brown and
to and the Smith and and Goddard's really good too,
so like, yeah, weapons everywhere. But if if like all
(29:56):
I have to do is like every third play is
handed to Saquon, I'm good. I think I can handle
that job. I really do.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
We ran to the left, hey, run into the right
this time. All right, all right, they're good.
Speaker 5 (30:11):
We have to we have to vary it a little bit.
We have to do twice, and we're just wants to
while to keep them on because I don't want them.
I don't want to figure out like they'll guys do
that and that's around a little power. Like my favorite
play was that one where a lot of poles from
it was against Washington, I think right where made a
lot of poles from left to right, goes up them
(30:32):
through the hole and like running through and made a
lot of is like looking fifteen different ways for somebody
to block because it's like there's nobody for really to
block because here goes right. Like it's that easy for
them right now because they're that loaded. I mean, they're
they're they're they're really really tough. I'm mean, give them
(30:53):
a lot of credits. Howie Roseman's the guy who probably
deserves the most credit for pulling all of this off.
But Kellen Moore, Kylie Roseman made Kellen Moore really rich,
A really rich guy, got him a good job in
New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two. That's at
Jason Cole sixty two.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
We'll find out tomorrow night who's headed to the Pro
Football Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
If Antonio, it's been nice knowing you, Jay.
Speaker 5 (31:19):
Cole, You're nice knowing you, guys. If that's the way
it goes.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
He had a good run.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
There goes Jason Cole, Tom and I to find out
what's trending for a person's been compared to the Kellen
Moore of Fox Sports Radio didn't do that great in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
But boy they lover in Philadelphia. It's Manti Blagos. It's like,
what true we going with this? Okay, I ever been
to Dallas? I don't even know it. I have not
been to Dallas. No, I have not, Guys.
Speaker 6 (31:51):
The last ten seconds for the Warriors in Jazz lasted
like ten minutes, but it's finally over.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
The Jazz hold on.
Speaker 6 (31:59):
They beat the Warriors one thirty one to one twenty eight.
Jordan Clarkson led the way for Utah with thirty one points.
The Pelicans crushed or excuse me, the Nuggets crushed the
Pelicans one forty four to one nineteen. Michael Porter Junior
in thirty nine points and twelve rebounds in the win.
The two games still left in the NBA. The Thunder
(32:19):
outscored the Suns in the third quarter forty three to sixteen,
So they're up one oh five to eighty one and
Shae Gilgess Alexander forty six points, six rebounds probably gonna
be out of the game soon. In this one, they
just got going in the fourth quarter. The Magic extended
their lead over the Kings eighty three to sixty six.
Is the score still about five minutes to go in
(32:40):
the third quarter, But at big multime multi team trade
happened where Jimmy Butler is headed to the Warriors, while
Andrew Wiggins, PJ. Tucker, Kyle Anderson are headed to the Heat.
Dennis Shrewder is headed to the Utah Jazz. Jimmy Butler
apparently has already agreed on a new two year deal
with his new team, the Golden State Warriors. Lonzo Ball
and the Bulls have a great on a new two
(33:01):
year deal as well, worth twenty million. According to Chris Haynes,
the Pelicans and the Raptors are in advanced discussions to
trade Brandon Ingram to Toronto, but it's not official yet.
What happened already earlier today in the NBA, Darius Garland
hit the game winning three from the logo with five
seconds left and Cleveland beat Detroit one eighteen to one fifteen.
(33:23):
The Bucks n after four game losing streak as they
topped the Hornets won twelve to one two, and earlier
today the Bucks traded Chris Middleton to the Wizards for
Kyle Kuzma. Darreon Fox, in his first Spurs game, dropped
twenty four points and thirteen assists and the Spurs survived
one twenty six to one twenty five against the Hawks.
Anthony Edwards dropped forty nine points as the Timberwolves outscore
(33:44):
the Bulls went twenty seven to one eight. In men's
college hoops, there was an upset that already finished up,
and it was Rutgers beating number twenty three Illinois eighty
two to seventy three. Number two Duke has won sixteen
in a row after crushing heraccues eighty three to fifty four.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
In baseball, Pete A.
Speaker 6 (34:03):
Lonso and the Mets are in agreement on a two
year deal worth fifty four million. It includes a ten
million dollars signing bonus and an opt out after.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
The first season.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
In the NFL, the.
Speaker 6 (34:14):
League is going to play regular season games in Melbourne, Australia,
beginning in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
That is going to be a long flight.
Speaker 6 (34:21):
The first game is going to be hosted by the
Los Angeles a RAMS and the NFL Players Association.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
The executive director.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
Today, Lloyd Howell Junior, said that the players are against
another regular season expansion and that no one wants to
play an eighteenth game.
Speaker 3 (34:37):

(35:47):
all kinds of news of what he said just a
few hours ago.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm eastern seven
pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon, live from the Live from the tirerack dot
Com studios, and we got Mark Stein coming up at
about a half hour.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
NBA insider, who has been working all day.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
One of his big things he has been pushing through
all day was, Hey, Pelicans, brandon Ingram on the move.
It's gonna happen at some point. Well, we got the
breaking news right now. Let's go to Moncy Belangos, who
knows that, yes, that move that Mark Stein promised has happened.
The destination is known.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Moncey. I'm sorry, it's not the Clippers. It's not the Clippers.
I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
It's okay. Yeah, the New Orleans Pelican New Orleans Pelicans
have traded brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors for Bruce
Brown junior, Kelly Olynyk, one first round pick and one
second rounder.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
ESPN with the details.
Speaker 6 (36:58):
But Chris Haynes did tweet a little bit ago that
it was happening.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
But these are the official terms of the deal.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Mon said, yeah, look, I'll tell you this about brandon
Ingram right now. Obviously he is blossomed doing all star
player and the Raptors right now, when you look at
what they're starting, five can be with Barrett and quickly
and now you're adding brandon ingram Like, to me, they
look like they could be the next Rockets right where
(37:25):
here's a team that got to a pretty big height
and then they realized, okay, we have to just start over,
right all the star players are gone, you know, all
our big star players are gone.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
We have to we have to get down to the bottom.
We have to start rebuilding.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
And it's an outside the spotlight rebuild because it's you know,
it's the Rockets in the West and got Toronto in
the east, and it takes about a year or so
for everybody to gel and then all of a sudden,
really quietly, and suddenly they're at the top of the conference.
Cause that's kind of what the Rockets did. Okay, we're
gonna we're at the bottom. We're go get Fred van
Vliet and we're gonna go from there. Okay, now, look
(37:58):
at the Rockets. Boy, they're really good. They've drafted well,
they've done a lot of good things. The Raptors are
doing a pretty good job at maximizing talent, right, Yeah,
they have some pretty good players in that starting lineup,
and now you're adding Brandon Ingram, who's been good ever
since the Lakers traded him, and now you're adding him here.
Suddenly it's gonna, Like I said, it's not gonna be
a big, pressure filled situation. But you're watching this team
(38:20):
that's gonna slowly rebuild and it's gonna happen in about
a year or so.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
It's gonna be. Wow. This Raptors team is pretty good, man.
They're gonna be a top of the East.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
Pretty deep squad as it were, the number of guys
averaging double figures. You got Grady Dick there, it Scottie
Barnes and your former nick RJ. Barrett getting it done.
So yeah, I mean you've got a pretty good core
up top. Now it's a matter of building depth and
in the East there could at least be a run
(38:51):
to the middle. Currently, what fifteen seventeen games under five
hundred or thereabouts the last I'd looked at their standings,
So you know, a lot to make up. But you
can add an All star, not a huge giveaway, A
couple of draft picks which get people excited, uh, and
the fact that Kelly Olynic is still in the league.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
Yeah, I would not have known that. You still there,
he's still playing. Oh look at that. It's it's gonna
be ten years from now. And Kelly Olynic is uh
when the next sign to a mac.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
I mean, he's averaged seven points a game, three point
six rebound, shooting fifty two percent.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Whatever.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
But like I would have thought he was older than that.
But good for him, still hanging on, still getting after it.
And I really wish I was born six eleven. Now,
well you know that I grew to six eleven. Oh,
that would be insane. I mean I think he would
just be allow my knees on the desk. You would
(39:48):
just fall over, I think, just to seeing how you
would just be falling. I can't believe I just fell.
I'm too top heavy and I'm falling. I wouldn't have
coordination enough to stand up.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
Now the hell? I just picture you?
Speaker 1 (40:00):
Boy, you're really Oh he just fell again. There, No,
there he goes again. Watch out for that door. Oh no,
he just fell again. Sorry about that, Mike, You okay, yeah,
not used to.
Speaker 3 (40:08):
The six eleven. Oh he just fell again.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
And also probably you know Chris Farley, the Chris Farley
hitting your head as he's like, oh, that's gonna leave.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
A market, just hitting my head walking in the door.
But look but there just entertain there. Uh Shams had
it as well.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
The Pelicans trade brandon Ingram to the Raptors, Brown o'lenic,
a first round pick and a second rounder.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
And here's gonna be all the criticism. Why did that
first round pick? What does it matter? You got an
All Star player? What does it matter?
Speaker 1 (40:41):
Telling you man, Raptors the New Rockets coming up next.
We got more on the NBA trade deadline. And if
I could tell you the one trade I want to
happen more than anything tomorrow and it doesn't involve the Knicks.
Speaker 5 (40:54):
What is it?
Speaker 3 (40:54):
What I'll tell you next right here, Jason and Mike
Fox Sports Radio
Speaker 2 (40:58):
Lebron and the Clippers
