Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight, the Jason Smith Show
with my bes friend Mike Harmon, live from the Tirack
dot Com Studios. Tirac dot com. I'll help you get
there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tiract dot com is

(00:49):
the way tire buying should be. Well, I'll tell you what.
There is not a lot in sports where I can
see in an idle night in February, I can see
something and say, oh, this sport needs to make this
change right away. But yet that happened tonight. We'll have
that story coming up in about twenty minutes, and all
you will also understand. Try to figure out how Paul

(01:11):
George scored two points in thirty seven minutes. But outside
of the big night in the NBA, it looked nothing
bigger than the Knicks beating the Hawks tonight, and Trey
Young couldn't just thump the thump the court in MSG
and take a piece home with them and wave to
the Knicks crowd. So sorry, Trey Young.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Is anybody playing any defense in that game?

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yet? Doesn't matter, doesn't it? Dude? No one buys tickets
to come see teams play defense.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
No, I need a lockdown defender slapped the floor like
Wojo used to, and get after it.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
We will. We will play situational defense in overtime and
late in the fourth quarter of playoff games. That's where
we see some defense.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
After coming up small against the Lakers, it was once
again an expanded big bodega, A.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Big bodega, hit a logo three tonight, man, he would
feeling it. He was open twenty four hours. Man.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
There was no question steady flow at merch.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
But big NFL story today and it really is really
took me back because I'm not in in just sometimes
I don't understand when people and athletes just don't get it.
And Saquon Barkley went on, Howard Stern Show earlier today.
Listen for this first time we played audio from the
Howard Stern Show in eleven years, and he talked about

(02:27):
the super Bowl, and of course, you know on Howard
Show he asked him, but you know, he doesn't go
too much into sports, but he asked about, Hey, you
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey, do you think they'll get married?
And instead of answering that, Saquon Barkley went in the
other direction and said, Hey, I don't understand all the
hate and all the booing that Taylor Swift had to endure.

(02:49):
This is from earlier today, Saquon Barkley on the Howard
Stern Show.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
I remember they showed her on the Jumbleton and she
got booed. I don't get it. I don't get why
she she was getting hate there. I didn't like that. Yeah,
I didn't like that. Porting with significat out there, and
she's made the game bigger. You know, we're all about
and football, we're all about, you know, how can we
expand the game and make it more internationally. And we're

(03:15):
traveling in Brazil and we're traveling the next to go,
and so we're trying to expand the game, and you know,
her being the part of it is only helping that.
So I don't I don't get to decide that you
could get in.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Okay, I feel like he's new, like he like he
didn't play all season with the Eagles and he didn't
go in and play in Philadelphia with the Giants when
they booed the crap out of him, Like, dude, what
do you mean you don't get the tailors? I understand
that you. Hey, I feel bad for but what do
you mean you don't get it? It was your team's
fans that were booing Taylor Swift. Why because she is

(03:49):
the Chiefs. She is synonymous with the Chiefs. And the
Super Bowl was a pro Eagles crowd. We know it
right away, right as soon as they introduced the teams
and they introduced the Chiefs. You heard the bull right away.
I said, well, this is this is a pro Chiefs crowd.
This is this is a pro Eagles crowd. Easy, right.
They bought all the tickets there. There not quite a
home game for the Eagles, but you could tell there

(04:10):
were many more Eagles fans there than Chiefs fans. And
Eagles fans are not gonna boot Tailor Swift when they
show Come on, man, really, these are Eagles fans who
are yelling blank Tailor Swift and burning Kermit the Frog
in the streets of Philadelphia following the game.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
They burned Kermit the Frog. For those that missed that
terrifying images, there should have been a warning and a
disclaimer before they showed up in my ex feed, because
I mean that was it Innocence lost for this guy
right here.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
This is this is how the Eagles fans Eagles fans roll, man, like,
you don't know how to process that, do you?

Speaker 3 (04:46):
It hurt my soul to see that green stuffed animal
multiple multiple times?

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, yeah, not just This wasn't.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Just one jersey by you know fan. You know Jason
Smith x F forty seven hy two spider banana out
of his basement.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
No, no, no, this is a kind of a big
deal here. Well, I don't like, are you new, Like say, kwonba,
are you new? Did you really think the Eagles weren't
gonna boo Taylor Swift? Of course they were. Of course
they We're gonna do it. Well, I mean I think
he was trying to go high road. You know that
the fans in such a glorious and resplendent moment at
their best. I mean, he's not gonna attack the hand

(05:29):
that feeds him. Now, he's gotta go on the banquet
circuit and go to all these autograph sessions telling these
guys how great the fans they are.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
For here's my you know, two hundred dollars autograph. Hey
you want a picture? Nothing, two hundred bucks? You want
an inscription? Super Bowl champ nothing two on the bucks.
I mean, we're raking in cash here, Smith. You gotta
tell them all that they're the greatest people in the world.
Why would they boo? How could you boo her?

Speaker 1 (05:51):
She's fantastic. Of course they're gonna let it's I mean,
even if it wasn't the Eagles, whoever the opposite team was,
is gonna boo Taylor Swift right, because look, she's when
when she first started coming to games two years ago,
it was and she's brought an incredible amount of attention
to the NFL. And what's really sad is is the

(06:14):
is the hatred that she gets away from where I
don't like seeing or thinking all she's doing is showing
up and cheering for the Chiefs, right, real like everybody
wants to be mad about something, and then you want
to weaponize it and make it political and all kinds
of crazy, which we'll get to the political angle of
it a couple of minutes.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
But like, mad about those thirty two seconds, Max, I.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Really I'm mad. You're just stupid. If you're mad about that,
you're just stupid. Right, I'm mad in my life and
I don't know what I'm really mad at, but I've
gotta be mad at something. So be mad at seeing
Taylor Swift, which is just dumb, right, It's just.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
What I encourage, folks. You need to be mad about something,
And how about a fresco at a swollen home here
at Fox Sports Radio and love hate just we want
to make you feel something. And if you're mad at us,
maybe it dissipates in another area of your life, you know,
where it can actually be destructive and problematic versus two
chuckleheads here on the radio. Bring the derision, bring the pain,

(07:10):
leave your leave your family and coworkers alone.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
I was really mad, but then I told Harmon to
go blank himself, and I felt a lot better. And
that's one to grow on. I'm gonna tell him to
go blank himself every day. Hey, Mike, this is Jason
Smith one for six ein't seven A go blank yourself.
I'm gonna go have a great day. See.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
I'm okay with that. That that is good for America.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Okay, I'll just do that from now on. I'll call
you ran upon the lance phone hello, and to say hey,
go blank yourself, and then I'll hang up.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
I'll just you kind of do that anyway, not really don't.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
I don't do it all the time.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
You You and Frostburg, I mean just picked up the
because he's been working with me on Sundays. He's dealt
with it. I mean, ty Shirt hates all of us.
Uh no, no, no, hind to smile though. No, I
think maybe he just hates you. No, but but no,
but still, I mean so that I felt bad for
Taylor Swift about.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
But this, this is what the heck you're getting? Tyser
just woke up. Sorry wait what but Mike saying he
thinks I hate him? This just well, it makes it
easier if everybody just hates me and then you just
kind of go through life. Harmon is anything for attention,

(08:18):
even if you hate him. So he's fine with it.
He's absolutely fine with it.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
It was disparaging and problematic right there.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Hey, I just told you to go blank yourself. I
thought you're okay with it. I'm I am okay with that, okay,
all right, Just well, so you need to belittle me
in the problem this is. It was my way of
telling you to go blank yourself without saying go blank yourself. See,
I already am changing it up on you. Yeah, no, curveball.
Just when you start changing the answers, I start changing
the questions. So with Taylor Swift like like, that's what

(08:48):
I feel bad about. But she's got to understand that.
You know, now she is the Chiefs, and the Chiefs
have become the evil Empire. So now whereas you have Okay,
people had hated you for a stupid reason, now you're
gonna get hate because well you're the Chiefs and everybody
hates the Chiefs. Now they don't like the Chiefs. Get
the calls, mahomes flopping all of the attention. Hey, what's

(09:08):
the big line, Harvey Den says from Batman, you live
long enough to become the villain. That's what's happened to
the Chiefs over the course of this playoff. They went
from the hero to the villain. So yeah, you're gonna
get boot as far as that goes now the end,
and it's strictly because hey, you support the Chiefs and
here was a very vocal, very loud fan base that
was at the Super Bowl. The political part of it,

(09:31):
that's just dumb. And I've read art columns on this
the last few days going, oh, this is a chilling thing,
and I'm like, no, it's not. It's not because I
see the big point brought up that well, Trump had
just gotten cheered moments ago during the national anthem, and
now here's Taylor Swift getting booted. Okay, you're looking for
a correlation here that just doesn't exist. All right, let's

(09:51):
deal with first things first. Taylor Swift. Zero zero Chiefs
fans are booing Taylor Swift. I don't care who you
voted for in the election. Zero Chiefs fans are booing
Taylor Swift because she supports the Chiefs. She is Travis
Kelsey's girlfriend. They've had untold heights with this team, the
popularity of this team. Zero Chiefs fans are booing Taylor Swift. Right,

(10:14):
so that already that that is out it's all Eagles fans.
Now they show President Trump during the national anthem. It's
a very emotional time. It's the national anthem. It's the
national anthem of the Super Bowl. Everybody's feeling it. You're
watching tele when you're at the game, you're watching it,
you feel it. And half the country wants President Trump
to be president. The other half doesn't want him to
be president. During the national anthem, when it's an emotional time,

(10:36):
they show you the commander in chief and the leader
of the free world, and the people that like him
are going to cheer for him, right, And this is
Chiefs fans and Eagles fans are both doing this. If
you don't like President Trump, it's the national anthem, you're
not gonna boo them during the nation. You're not gonna
boo during the national anthem. You're just going to be silent. Right.
So that explains, Hey, exactly, well, I expected President Trump

(10:56):
to get an ovation when he was there because he's
the president. He's there, and again, half the country voted
for him. So that's kind of how it goes to
suddenly just say, and I know that he started this
feud with Taylor Swift, but he starts. But if you don't,
whatever party you don't vote for the other party hates
you and they always try to find a way to
single you out. That's kind of how it goes in politics.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Now.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
It's why we're never coming together, right, It's never happening, right.
That's the one thing I can say. The fault of
both parties is that they're never going to be able
to realize that we all are in this together. We're
not right. So that's the tough part. But when it
comes to this, yeah, okay, Taylor Swift came out in
support of Kamala Harris. Do by President Trump, of course,
because this is how he does things. As comes out

(11:34):
and says, ah, great day for everybody, but Taylor Swift,
of course he's gonna do that. But there is zero,
zero correlation between why Trump was cheered and why Taylor
Swift was booted. This was a football thing, and you
can't So what you're telling me is that some of
the fans of one team that like President Trump like
Taylor Swift and warn't pointing, But some of the fans
of one team that don't like President Trump and like

(11:55):
Taylor it doesn't matter. That makes absolutely zero sense. It's
Eagles fans who booed sake one. Parkley's got to know that.
He's got to understand this is how Eagles fans operate,
and that's why it happened the way it was. Everybody
wants a big, crazy, in depth answer about things, and hey,
I like to find it too when it's there, but
it's just not there for this. No.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
I love the deep dives, right, learn all sorts of stuff.
Everybody going through Kendrick Lamar, I enjoy the performance. Do
I understand each and every reference? No, there were a
few that were pretty clear and on the nose.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
But other than that, you know, hey, you want to
give me a deep dive on that, fine, But telling
me that Taylor Swift wearing it from the opposing fans
is supposed to be a big deal. Man.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
She played it up nicely. She knows exactly what's going on.
I mean, come on, she's not an idiot. She's been
through this before. It's happened at other stadiums. Now, it
might have just been a little more vociferous because it's
the Eagles fans. Reputation has been earned. I think we
can say that very fairly. But you're not booing during

(12:59):
the national anthem. You want to do that and have
the guy behind uh behind you suddenly jackie upside the
head because you're booing. And whether it's President Trump or
you're just now you're just booing the national anthem.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
I'm buoying. Even Eagles fans aren't booing the national I'm
booing the anthem. Why I don't think it's a great version.
I could have been rendered a little bit better.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Yeah, because I don't know how long President Trump was
up on the jumbo tron there in the stadium. I mean,
is it a standing eight count? Was it, you know,
a one, one to five? I mean, I don't know.
But either way, it's not like, hey, we're gonna keep
the camera on him for the entirety.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Of the song. No, it would have been a flash point.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
And I'm gonna guess a lot of folks in the
stadium never saw it if they were facing the flag,
you know, hey, looking at down at the field and
the colors and everything that's going on. But either way, yeah,
you're you're not booing the anthem. I mean you want
to go see uh and get the get the fields,
go go to a Blackhawks game, Yeah, they're not winning
a lot, but Dard's gonna be fun whatever. Like many

(13:55):
of my Chicago teams, you know, they're not what's that
word good? But all of that to say, you want
to go and feel chills like no other. Go get
a live rendition of the anthem at a home game
for the for the Blackhawks, and you know you'll you'll
get the perspective of what what goes on, uh, regardless
of what's showing up on a jumbo tron. And then

(14:18):
once they show you know, Jim Belushi in the crowd,
then they boo, No.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
But I thought they stopped playing the anthem, and they
play that. Isn't that what they play now instead of
the anthem? No, they will play that oftentimes in the
third period. Hey, crowd, you're kind of dead. Let's go
and now everyone please rise for the playing of Chelsea Dagger.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
No.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
The only way you get upset with the national anthem,
and we almost had it. I said, there's only one
way to get upset is that you know, John Batiste
did the did the anthem right? And he's saying the
same line three times? Yeah, right now, this took the
over under for the anthem right up to it. Right.
The over under for the national anthem was two minutes

(15:06):
and one half a second, right, I mean that's a
big deal. And because he sang that line three times,
the anthem came in at two minutes flat. It nearly
hit the over because he sang the same line three times.
How many people would have been upset going he had
to have money on it. I had the under for
the anthem, but then he sings or the Land of

(15:26):
the Free three times, man, and I wind up losing
money because of it. Just sing it once. It's not
how the song goes there. I can That's the only
time I can understand if you're upset, Like if you
hear him sing it three times and you bet the
and you bet the under, you start booing because you
feel like, oh, I'm gonna lose money on this. That's
the only time you can boom.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
I was entertaining listening to I was in a route
to where I was gonna watch the game. So I'm
hearing all the songs as they're performed and in between
and listening on the radio and as as after each song,
it was, you know, setting up for the next. So
let's let's vamp as the host, and I don't know
if it was Scott Graham or whoever it was, but

(16:05):
a it was always a very New Orleans rendition of
like you said, the same thing for everyone of.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Very New Orleans rendition of national anthem of God Bless America.
Oh ya. They're like, okay, you could change the verbiage.
It's it's okay.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
But when I when I heard him do the the
you know, it's the line so nice. I sang it thrice.
I was thinking about the over under immediately, right, because
everybody was out there timing all the rehearsals for the
pregame stuff, for the halftime whatever they could get any
sort of information on it was, Hey, I did my stopwatch?

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Did you do it right?

Speaker 3 (16:46):
It's kind of like guys timing forties and we have
to look around and converse. Did you have the same
time on that gut?

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Did you have?

Speaker 3 (16:52):
I mean, because the combine's coming and there's a lot
of fights, Hey, point oh two here and there, same thing.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
That's that's the difference between winning and losing. Anthem Day
exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome. The Jason

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (18:47):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. Really you don't You don't need the
national anthement. I really thought they stopped doing that a
few years ago and they just played this instead.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
It would be something I think we would have heard
about that that would have been kind of a big deal. Hey,
we just kind of changed things up.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
Yeah, we got some big stuff in the NBA coming
up in a few minutes and including you know, I
don't like to always say I told you so, but wow,
the NHL is on, I believe now, an eight week
break for this four Nations Challenge right round robin tournament.
You've seen the commercials for it everywhere and it has

(19:26):
been a hopeful. Let's see what we can do with
this middle of the season. Bring attention to the NHL
right again. It's a big break for that. It's a
two week break, which is really something at this point.
And tonight was the first game where Canada played Sweden
and Canada won and overtime four to three. And the

(19:49):
way they did overtime in this game was a ten
minute three on three overtime, which the best thing the
NHL ever did was when they went to four on
four overtime when they started at about fifteen eighteen years ago,
best thing they ever had. Right now we have that,
we have shootouts. Great, No, no, no, give me three

(20:09):
on three overtime. If the NHL needs to change the
rule before they get back from this break, do it.
This is unbelievably exciting. It's end to end hockey how
you want it. Look, the shootouts are great, and they're fun.
But you know, you don't see the great crazy moves
from guys now. Now, guys now try to you know,
just take risk shots from eight feet out and it's like, okay,

(20:30):
I mean, this is the way that hockey's meant to
be seen. A three on three up and down the rink,
there's a there's a two on one challenge and if
that gets a save, then it goes back the other
way two on one or three on one. If everybody
goes all in, it is just I mean, it's so
much fun to watch this year. You hold your breath
every time up and down the ice. I know it's
only a few minutes long, but man, this three on

(20:53):
three overtime. They should change the rule right now, change
it right now to it?

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Yeah, I dig it? Right? What do we always talk
about and you know the excitement of the international stage
when we we go to the big the giant rinks
and and the skaters get to get after it, and
you know the advantages that that are in there, small,
quick whatever, and you have to adapt versus the clutter
that is the curtains like we talk about with basketball,

(21:19):
right there's just there's a lot of body mass that
has to be navigated.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Even though you know the game has changed through the years,
it doesn't matter the size of the rank, size of
the basketball court have stayed the same. Yeah, if we
can get some open up ice ice time and get
some of that flow in, absolutely give me that any
day of the week, I mean every time, right, Like
it's like an overtime of a hockey game in the playoffs,

(21:47):
where every dump in you're like, oh, you're not like, oh,
don't come on, get the fuck out, get it out,
get it out, get it out, get up the ice. Right,
You're like, get so nervous. Like with this, it's the
same thing. It's like, oh two on one, Oh my god,
oh my god, oh we made the safe go go go.
Oh no, they're going the other way. Like, I don't
know how I really, I mean, I have a dog
in the fight tonight. You know it's Canada and Sweden, right,
it's not the United States playing it anything. And it

(22:08):
was that I felt it going. This is I mean,
this is real. I can't get over this. I can't
get over how exciting this is.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
See, you gotta find your excitement. I mean, we didn't
get it. The Lakers didn't show up for you Clippers buried,
you know, the their opponent, and you know you got
the Nicks win. I mean that was hours ago. I
mean you're long past, you know, relaxing and smoking a
cigarette after that satisfying event. So yeah, you needed something
else to give you some juice.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
And that was it. Oh man, I'll tell you it
was really was something exit out about a Fresca exit
Swalling Dome, the Jason smithser with Mike Carmon Lodge from
the Tirec dot Com Studios. Now to the night that
was in the NBA, and we'll get to the we'll
get to the I told you so in a couple minutes.
But I really want to know how this happened because
this season for the seventy six ers is just absolutely

(22:56):
it's terrible. And they can't trade Joel Embiid until March,
and I really think he'll be on the move this summer.
They go all in for this year to go get
Paul George to come in and be the third superstar
with Embiid and Maxie and Paul George, and they're looking
at last year, Hey, we were close to beating the Knicks.
We couldn't do it that well, let's do it, let's
get up over the top, and instead it's an awful

(23:18):
year and the Sixers maybe looking at being a tear down,
but somehow tonight in losing to the Nets, right, who
are just as bad and they're not even trying the Nets,
Paul George played thirty seven minutes and scored two points
thirty seven? How does in a row? How does how
does Paul? How does a guy like Paul, like Dalton Connect,

(23:38):
I get like Bronnie James, I get Bronnie James actually
scored nine tonight? Like, how do you score? How does
Paul George, who's been an offensive superstar his entire career?
How does he play thirty seven minutes take seven shots
and score two points? Like point shots? Was he trying
to Was he trying to send a message? Was he
trying like you're not even trying to get in the game.
You're the big guy that's got to score, Maxie and

(24:00):
play tonight and you score two points against the Nets.
It's not like you're playing the t Wolves, who are
great defensive day, You're playing the Nets. How do you
score two points? How was that? That?

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Math?

Speaker 1 (24:09):
Doesn't math? Mike Carmen no not at all.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
I mean Grimes ten of eighteen from the field, Obrek
ten of sixteen, the fact that he takes seven shots
five of them are three point shots.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Okay, six rebounds, four.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Assists, does finish with the plus eight on the night
for those that want to harp on those things. But
all that said, it's a winnable game. I mean, are
we trusting the process? That is, we're just gonna slap
down on everybody's foreheads and logos again and just say, hey,
take the l because we were not even gonna try
to beat the Nets.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
Man, We're not even gonna try to beat the Mets.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
No, I said, Nets, you've got Mets in your head
just because spring training's coming. But yeah, I mean, Max,
he doesn't play right, knee contusion that listed as the
reason he sits tonight. That's fine, All Star breaks coming
all of that to say, here's a guy that was
he mad that he didn't get dealt right because his
name popped up a couple of times. Obviously a huge

(25:08):
contract that you'd have to take on. We talked about
Joel embian I told you there's no chance in hell
anybody's going after that deal. At least currently given usage rate,
and then he gives it, lets the cat out of
the bag, saying that he's in the offing for another
surgery here on his knee. But for Paul George, is
he just pissed he didn't get dealt to a would

(25:30):
be contender that nobody wanted to pony up whatever the
asking price was. And that's what you get, a couple
of Philip Seymour Hoffman three point tries and a bunch
of nothing.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Terrible. I was waiting if you do and make it
rain rain Man? What rain?

Speaker 3 (25:50):
One of the greatest scenes. I mean, between that and
I'm a peacock captain. You gotta let me fly on
this one, Hey, don't go chasing waterfalls of the greats.
Do you think if the uh, if the if the
Nets and the and the Sixers had played three on
three like uh the ten minute period tonight, that Paul
George would have.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Scored more than two points. No, he would have just
been dished.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
They would have gone to a Yabouselli would have maybe
added a few more shots, or I mean, Grimes was
ten of eighteen.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
He might have taken more shots. I don't know, Hey, Grimy,
maybe maybe the NBA could do that, you know, one
ten minute period of three on three for the fourth quarter.
That that's how the fourth quarter goes.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Once we get to the second half, once we get
to the second half of the season, if you're woefully
under five hundred, we don't subject people to five on
five basketball. Yeah, now, I mean it's three on three,
so it opens up.

Speaker 1 (26:42):
Everything is great, right, And that's why I look just
to button this before we go to what's trending is
that like if the end of like a ten minute
three on three, you're gonna get a goal, right, instead
of the five minutes ten minutes, you're gonna get a goal.
And you don't need that, and we don't and we
don't need the uh, we don't need the shootout anymore, right,
we don't need like like ten minut at three three,
play ten minutes of three on three and then aga

(27:04):
and then the game's over, right, then it can kick rocks. Yeah,
and afterwards again the game ends, somebody's gonna score in
a ten minute three on three overtime. Someone's gonna do it.
I can get on board with that. Sign them up exit. Therefore,
you sign them up Exit Swollen Dome, the Jason Smith

(27:26):
Show with Mike Carmon Live from the Ti rack dot
com studios. Uh, we got more NBA coming up in
ninety seconds. But first, Martin Wise has what's trending in
the wide world of sports. I'm dube. Thanks a bunch,
Martin appreciated my friend The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carmen Live from the Ti rack dot com Studios. Look
one of the big NBA performances tonight, and look we
had a lot of big stick. I mean nothing bigger

(27:47):
than the Knicks telling Trey Young you are not going
to celebrate on our court again. Go home. Uh. The
Nuggets win tonight and it is the eighth win in
a row for Denver. They I mean it's Portland. But
still fifty five points for Jamal Murray, a career best
for him. And this is what I meant when I
said at the trade deadline, right, the two teams that

(28:09):
didn't do anything, we spent a lot of time on them.
One was the Knicks, because the Knicks had to do
something and they didn't because their depth is challenged. Now
you're waiting Mitchell Robinson's gonna come back. Maybe he is
at some point, I don't maybe right, But you need
another wing because Oganoobi clearly is not someone you can
count on to be healthy. Probably an another point guard,
you know, somebody a little bit, you know, a wing

(28:31):
that can defend is what you need to And they
did nothing they needed to. But the Nuggets did absolutely nothing.
And I said that was that was the absolute right
thing to do. This is a team that was finally
getting healthy and the offense was really starting to peak,
and they were putting up some big numbers. They were
starting They're starting to score one twenty one, five, one

(28:51):
point thirty with regularity. I mean Denver really, I mean, look,
they're the second highest scoring team in the third highest
scoring team in the league right now, and really you
look over the past month and a half, they're the
number one scoring team in the league. They are just
really starting to light it up. They needed nothing but
have some time to gel a little bit. I know
that everybody wanted poor or trade it. Oh your trade. Nah.

(29:12):
He's a guy that opens things up for Jokicic everything.
If Yokic was struggling, he would have said, listen, move
this guy. Okay, that would have happened, but it didn't.
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is nothing, to think that, no,
what we have is good enough and it's good enough
to win and we're good. And that's what the Nuggets
did not. They didn't try to look for You're always
looking to try to make your team better, but if

(29:34):
nothing's there, don't force it. Understand, you still have the
back half of the season to keep going. You're a
team that's won the title. You understand what it is.
You know when you need to peak now. You didn't
peak in the playoffs last year, and look how it
costs you. I mean, the Nuggets are starting to play
unbelievably great basketball right now and they're scoring tons of points.
Like I said, sometimes the toughest thing to do is nothing,

(29:55):
but instead, hey, and they did it. And look where
they're at right now. Twenty nine hundred thirty three hundred
thirty seven hundred forty four one hundred twenty two, one
hundred forty six hundred thirty two Like this has looked
like the Denver Nuggets teams are the eighties. Yeah, when
they would go up and down the floor and play
games like this. See I was waiting for you to
make that connection.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
There you go, throwback kind of time uh, to your point,
they have not played with a full roster right injuries
and decisions to just say, hey, we can slow play this,
we need to be right come March in April. Right,
let's peak, let's start moving the line at that point.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
And it's tough to sit back, right and because you
probably had a couple of offers that came in and
you decided not good enough, And it's tough to not
act when you've got the rest of the league making
headlines during Super Bowl Week for all of these colossal
moves with stars all over the place, and Porter Junior
certainly one of those names that that even the casual

(30:57):
most casual of NBA fans would know. Nikola Jokic though,
now get getting into that range where we have to
talk about him with Gildas Alexander his twenty fifth triple
double of the year tonight. Yeah, he started, he's starting
to make it a thing. Now. It's like, okay, Shaike,
I'll give you some time here, I'll let you be

(31:18):
the number one. But here I come, here, I come
to make it even more interesting. Now, I'll give you
he's mad. I'm still gonna go with Gildes Alexander because it.
Look the NBA always likes to anoint new superstars and
like it's like the voting for the MVP in the NFL. Right, Oh,
we could give Lamar Jackson the third MVP. But boy,

(31:38):
you could really anoint Josh Allen a super duperstar by
giving him a vote here. And you know that's what
people wanted to do because they split their they changed
their vote from first team All Pro to to MVP,
and they all continue to ignore the fact that they
named an offensive Player of the Year.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
What's a quarterback play offense?

Speaker 1 (31:57):
There we go anyway, As of five days ago, Shay
Gildess Alexander minus seven hundred, Jokic at plus four to
twenty five, everybody else ready minimum of one hundred to one. Wow.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
And that was Giannis before he got hurt. Wow. So
now he's one victor two hundred to one, Anthony Edwards
two fifty, Donovan Mitchell two fifty, Brunson in towns both
at two fifty to one.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
No, big Bodega, that's all right, He'll score fifty night
the rest of the rest of the season. He'll get it.
It'll be the rest of the way.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
It trips on his tongue and missus the final weeks season.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
And if that happened. If that happens, I'm not just
keying your car, I'm taking your tires and you're gonna
be up on blocks.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
If that happens, well, if literally he trips over his tongue,
I mean we will have predicted the greatest ending to
an NBA season for a player in the history.

Speaker 1 (32:53):
Exit out a bout a Fresca exit swalling down. The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live from the tirech

The last big free agent is off the board. What
does it mean? Means a team that signon's going to
the playoffs. It's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox

Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My bass
friend Mike Harmon, Live from the tire Rack dot Com Studios.
And uh we had the final Big Domino, the final
big name in free agency come off the board tonight
in Major League Baseball, big breaking news. Earlier in the show, tonight,

(33:39):
Alex Bregman has finally said his goodbye to the Houston Astros.
It was the Astros, that it was the Red Sox,
and maybe the Blue Jayson back to the Astros and
the Red Sox the Blue Jayson back to the Red Sox.
But he has agreed to a three year, one hundred
and twenty million dollar contract with the Boston Red Sox.
And it's a little bit more expensive. I would have

(34:00):
paid for Alex Bregman's ten or twelve million dollars more
than the next closest UH offer came in. But it's
a good move for the Red Sox because they needed
a big move like this to put a big exclamation
point on their offseason. And even though it's a lot
of money, it's only for three years. And what do
I tell you, I'll give anybody money for three years. Well,

(34:20):
I'll give you a lot of money, but I gotta
be able to get it if you stink or we stink,
and I can move on from you. Well, even starting pitching.
Oh no, no, no, no, I'm not paying starting pitching
at all, But anything else I will pay you for
three years to show you that, Hey, okay, you know
we we can do it. We'll give I'll overpay you
for three years. It's absolutely fine. So while it's a

(34:41):
great move like the and the thing is is that
the Red Sox pitching is kind of middle of the pack.
It's not great. Now they took a chance Walker Bueller's
coming in this year, but it's still middle of the pack.
But their lineup just mashes. Whether it's Duran Rafaela, it's
it's it's a huge, huge, huge lineup. And now you're
throwing Bragnant in the middle of it. Right, O'Neil at

(35:03):
thirty one home runs last year, only played one hundred
and thirteen games, like they hit top to bottom. They're
gonna be a lot of fun and they're gonna be
a wildcard team because you only need to win, you know,
eighty five, eighty eight game. You gotta get they were
a five hundred team last year. Right, the Red Sox
looked like they were gonna make a big push in
the second half. They didn't. Okay, I get it, but

(35:23):
this is how you become a wildcard team, right. You're
pitching is just okay. You're hoping it gets to be
more in the middle of the pack. But man, You
just added a guy that can still really mash into
the middle of this lineup, and you go top to
bottom with guys that can hit like this looks like
the Yankee lineup. This looks like the Mets lineup. This
looks like the Dodgers lineup. Where I mean, they don't

(35:44):
have the other things that these teams have, but man,
I'll tell you this is gonna be a tough team
to keep down, especially in a hit in you know,
hitting in Fenway again. You know it's gonna be the
the Harvey Wallbangers. It was the Brewers in the early eighties.
Now you have the Ball, the Red Sox Berg Bangers,
whatever you want to say. They're gonna be a lot
of fun. They'll be in the playoffs this year as

(36:05):
a wildcard team.

Speaker 3 (36:06):
What's fun is also behind, you know, the roster that
you're assembling, and you talk about mashing and Bragman, the
defending goal glove winner, all of these things that you've
also got a really robust minor league system. You look
at the top one hundred MLB dot Com prospect ranking,

(36:26):
you got three guys in the top twelve. You got
Roman Anthony, who's second only to Rokie Sasaki outfielder, twenty
years years old. You got Christian Campbell middle infield, can
play some outfield as well, six ' three, about two
hundred pounds, right handed hitter. And then Marcelo Mayer who's

(36:47):
a shortstop who's also twenty two years old and on
the comment So you're gonna talk about young guys and
also gives you trade chips. You go on down, go
through the rest of the top one hundred. There's a
couple of guys on the back end. For me, it's
all about the arms. You bring in crochet from the
White Sox. You mentioned Walker Buehler. See what you get there,
and then be active come deadline time, because there's always

(37:10):
a couple arms available, particularly if you don't want to
go out on the the limb for the highest end guys,
right the thirty forty million dollar guys. There's always a
couple of value propositions or guys that are on the
comeback trail. I would imagine Boston's very active there. And
if I'm I'm a Yankees fan, I'm a little salty
today because well, now you're getting chased.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
Yeah, I mean, look, you talk about the top four hitters,
on the Dodgers, the top four hitters on the Mets.
Now they added Soto, top four hitters on the Red Sox. Now,
I mean looking and look, Devers is only twenty eight,
you know, and he's coming off what you know what
you would think a year where he's gonna be hit
hit even better depending where Bregman hits in the lineup,
Like they just all mash Man. This is not a

(37:53):
team where, hey, you got a couple of guys and
knock in one hundred and twenty right now, you got
a bunch of guys that are you know, twenty five
and eighty Yeah, like four, yeah, like five or six
guys in that lineup. Man, that's something.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
Yeah. Devers had a down year with twenty eight home
runs thirty four doubles in eighty three RBI.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
Yeah, yeah, I think I'll be okay with it.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
He played one hundred and thirty eight games after hit
playing one forty one fifty plus pretty much three straight
years around that. So yeah, you get him fully healthy
and raking again. Add another bat Man. They could be
fun to watch. I love the Al East. It's gonna
be a fun division to watch them.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
Well, and that's the best thing now is that the Yankees.
Who there's certain teams that do stuff where the Yankees
have to answer. When the Mets do something, the Yankees
have to answer because they share the same city. They
had to go out and go on a spending spree
after they lost Soto. If Soda went to a different team,
so too went to the Giants. Now they wouldn't do it.
But when the Mets and the Red Sox do stuff,

(38:50):
the Yankees have to do stuff. And now watch them
re engage for Nolan Ronado because they had kind of
backed away from him. Now the Red Sox ad Bregman.
You know the Yankees have a big hole at third base.
Watch suddenly Ronado's name come back up as someone they
could go out and get. Just watch.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
Oh, I love the chaos factor. Let's go Yeah. Training
is underway, baby, let's go Yanke you.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
