Speaker 2 (00:23):
If you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
You know, I'm bum We're getting the All Star break now.
The feud has to like kind of hit the back
burner for a few simmers a little bit. Yeah about that.
I got to talk about it a little bit during
a radio spot earlier today. It's like wait what, I'm like,
oh yeah, you can look it up. And I got
to do all the plugs and everything, like he's really
mad at you. I'm like, oh yeah, nice good. We

(00:50):
create feuds with a lot of people living, run free
and JJ Reddick said The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon live from the Tirack dot Com Studios. Tirec dot
comall help you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended in
stalliverstirerack dot com is the way tire buying should be well.
Last hour on the show, he had a very spirited

(01:10):
discussion about memorabilia cards and pumping money into a losing
proposition right where you guys told me that when you
buy packs of cards many times most of the time,
you lose money on the deal.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
I said, it's like gambling.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Enter update anchor Monci Bolangyos who came on and said, guys,
I wasn't paying attention to that conversation because I need
Shay Gilders Alexander to score two more points for me
tonight and I can hit my parlay. And I said, Moncy,
gambling is not there for you to win. And you said,
but there's six minutes left. Always got to do is
score two more points. And I said, you go, yeah, sure,

(01:47):
there's no way that's not gonna happen. You got you
got it here, just six minutes. He's gotta score two points.
Oh you're gonna cash it on this parlay, Moncy, how
many points did Shae Gilders Alexander score in the final
six minutes?

Speaker 4 (02:00):
You know what, Jason, I just wanted to ask you
a question, and you know what you know the answer.
That's what's annoying because.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
I know the answer and you know the answer, but
I doesn't know the answer.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Fat zero settle Settle.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, he missed a big leaner off the glass about
twelve feet.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
It's went a rough.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Couple hours though for Mancia I made there was some
hot take nonsense earlier that started things. And then you're
being really smug and condescending to the lot of us
at this point and now and now you're calling out
Moncey here, who I think is going to jump through
that class.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
You know, I don't. I've don't.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
I don't really bet and I mean that, but I've
had an itch. So like in the last two weeks,
I've done maybe three partly it's like in my life,
I've maybe done five or six. I really don't bet
a lot, but I've had an itch the last like week,
week and a half, and so I've done it. Not
anything crazy like twenty bucks here, twenty bucks there.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
You could have opened the pack and gotten two Star
Wars cards.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
You know what, that would have been as thrilling. That
would not have been as thrilling, but you know what,
you'd still have those two Star wars cards, right.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
And then I would be like, what do I do
with this?

Speaker 1 (03:08):
I know, by the way, I think he overestimated what
that pack costs.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
But either way, the point the time is the only
real value that any of us have.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
And you got two and a half hours of anxiety stress, yeah,
rather than nothing, So at least you got two and
a half hours of stress in returns.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Does well will that help me lose weight or weight?

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Uh? Stress? Well depends. Did you eat anything after that happened?

Speaker 5 (03:32):
No?

Speaker 1 (03:32):
I'm still eating?

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Oh okay, well then we are there. We are all right,
I'm doing great. All right, I'll call I'll call Susan Powder.
We can stop the insanity. Find you want to explain
to millennials? I think I think her infomerciers are still running.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Okay, so again nowadays late night I get guys that
are trying to either sell me nonstick cookware or.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
A lot of lawyering. All right, a lot of.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Deadly you really need to be ready for your next
car accident. That's what I'm getting in between segments of
you know, law and order.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Ended call to to to to to too too.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
I mean, look, it's the whole billboard industry in Southern
California that and go buy tickets for the Chargers.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
So Mantia, has this cured you from your gambling? Or
now are you doubling down?

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Like is Hawaii playing something really late tonight and you're
gonna put it all on that train zero.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
It's probably a blessing in disguise that the All Star
megion is coming and I take a little bit of
a break.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
You're not going to be on teams over time.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
I'm definitely not gonna bet on that, but I will
go back come Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Hey, Jason, tell me about the Four Nations Challenge. Where
should my money go?

Speaker 1 (04:45):
No?

Speaker 3 (04:45):
No, no, no, no no no.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
But I will tell you what I I'll.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Be back aggressive squad, the international squad.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
I mean, look at that.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
You meant mony betting young and aggressive. She'll be back
is very excitable. Yeah, she's gonna go back through the
numbers and you'll be ready for the second.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
Half and maybe I will double up next time.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Okay, Remember gambling is a disease. Yes, as contagious as
bubonic plague, attacking one but infecting all the hell. That's
the speech.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
That's a losing speech from the natural losing is a disease, okay,
as long.

Speaker 5 (05:22):
As it's music.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
I didn't realize gaming and gambling gambling is a disease too,
Sure it is.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
Well, I hope I'm contagious.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
You need to bet a T shirt that just says
hashtag contagious.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Hashtag you in textious infectious.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Alright, Moncy, I think there's still some in game betting
you can do.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
I mean, you're a halftime usc with a three point
lead over U c l A. You can do that.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
You can get that money, get in on that side. Yeah,
bet double just double down on the overrunner for juju wat.
That's good right, all right, good luck? Mon Okay, what
does she have at half got twenty five?

Speaker 3 (05:56):
We're gonna have to buy her dinner tonight. She's gonna
have no money left, absolutely no money.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Wow. I mean, look, we work in radio. Anybody's gonna
accept a free meal. So with the Jets parting ways
with Aaron Rodgers today, this is something that many people
are gonna love. They're gonna say who after I say
what I'm gonna say, and some are gonna go, great,

(06:21):
We're screwed, uh.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Rogers.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
This should be it for him, right, he should be done.
You think this past year was probably as good as
it's gonna be. Right, He had his hand picked offense
coordinator a year ago, hand picked players, handpicked everything, and
it and it went as well as it possibly could. Still,
through twenty eight touchdowns, he was in the top ten
for touchdowns and yards.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
That's about as good as it's good.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
They fired the guy that ran the defense, and the
defense went into the tank, thereby submarining any opportunity to
win games and opening the door for Josh Allen to
be MVP. He also got to be good before week twelve.
When you're wall There is something to be said that.
But what what real league gets me is that right away,
seeing here are potential landing spots for Aaron Rodgers, here's

(07:06):
potential landing spots for Russell Wilson. When both of these
guys are basically done, these should be. This should be
in any other off season, this should be. Hey, both
these guys are gonna retire. Will they both go in
the Hall of Fame together? Will they wait? Because Russell
Wilson is washed.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
We saw it.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Aaron Rodgers, you're really gonna You're gonna try to catch
lightning in a bottle with him in Vegas for a year,
or you're gonna draft a young quarterback and start over.
I don't know that there's a fit, but it doesn't
stop out there personnel people and league sources saying hey,
here's where Rogers could go.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Here.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
I if you your team doesn't need a quarterback this offseason,
count yourself thankful. Right, this is where Cowboys fans can
finally say, great, something I have in my column because
if you need a quarterback this offseason, you are screwed.
With a capital S, capital C, capitol are small E,
big w smallly big D. You are screwed because this

(08:00):
class is awful. Nobody seems to want Sam Darnold, who
is the best guy out there.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
The fact that you're still.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Saying, hey, maybe we can find the dust off Rogers
and Russell Wilson, what does that tell you? Because the
quarterback class and the draft is no good. Yeah, cam
Warden Shador Sanders will go at the top of the draft.
They're the two best quarterbacks out there. Now, are they
really top five draft picks? Probably not, But because they're quarterbacks,
everybody needs them. They'll go in the top five. And

(08:27):
then there's a big drop off until you get to
the second third rounders, which are McCord and Dart and
Milrow and yours. Like, this is not the year to
want a quarterback. If you need a quarterback this year,
you are screwed. Like, I don't know where the hell
the Jets are gonna go for Gret's why I thought
they're gonna keep Rogers for here, because there's no place
else they can go for quarterback. Who the hell else
are they bring in other than drafting somebody and bringing

(08:48):
them along slow nobody. Same thing for the Titans, same
thing for the Raiders, same thing for anybody. Are you
gonna say, hey, we'll wait wait for the Saints to
cut Derek Carks? Looks like maybe that could happen after
Kellen Moore refused to even talk about him today. Like
that's where you're going. There's nobody out there. This is
the worst year for quarterbacks that I can remember. I'm
not gonna sit here and go this is the worst

(09:10):
year for quarterbacks in the last seventy five years. No,
but this is the worst year that I can remember.
If you need a quarterback, there literally is nobody out there.
The Giants will get Shador Sanders the Browns will get
cam Ward and Boom, and that's how it's gonna go.
And the Titans will eventually wind up smartening up and saying, okay,
we'll draft Travis Hunter because he he's a potential franchise

(09:31):
Hall of Fame type player that can play on both
sides of the ball. So that's how it's gonna go.
If you need a quarterback, man, you are screwed, right.
We know life is miserable in the NFL if you
don't have a quarterback, but when life is miserable when
you don't have one, and it's worse when you can't
get one.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
It's like being hungry and you're locked in a room.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
If I'm hungry, but I'm in front of my refrigerator,
I get something.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
To eat, and you can eat one of those Star Wars.
I can get something to eat. If I'm hungry and
locked in a room with no food, guess what, hungry
and I'm not eating?

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Yeah, and that makes me even matter, right, So that's
what this is. This is being hungry in a room
instead of being hungry in front of refrigerator. This is
how bad it is, man. That's why certain teams like Yes,
this is your greatest day of the offseason for the Cowboys,
for any of the team that's got a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Hey, I'm feeling awesome about my team because we're not
gonna have to go out and get one this year.
This is great.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
At least you think you have a quarterback. You don't know,
but you think you do. Right, You're in Minnesota, you're
in some of these spots, you at least have to
say you think you yes, right.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
I mean, look.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Because by all metrics, like you could just look at
the final stats for certain quarterbacks, like look at look
at me in Chicago, Ben Johnson shows up, so he's
gonna fix Caleb Williams, right right, I mean those stats
look good, but you go dig inside the numbers.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
There's a lot of work to be done. But that's fine.
You think you've got something that you can at least
work with.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
Kyle McCorry is gonna end up getting drafted at the
back end of the first round, Buddy, You're gonna have
a Syracuse quarterback by because desperation, as we know, is
a stinky colone. But also it's the reality, right, Travis
Hunter is gonna go to the Combine as a cornerback.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
That's fine.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
He's still gonna end up with a team that's going
to make him part of the offense. Right, You're gonna
go and work through old colleague here at Fox Sports Radio.
Will Blackman went in as a wide receiver to the combine.
Guess what he ended up playing in the NFL as
a cornerback. Because it can go both ways. You stick around,
you go through some drills, you impress on folks that

(11:32):
there's some other things that you might be able to do.
The Browns are an interesting, you know, quandary all over
the place. Are they gonna trade Miles Garrett? Did they
stay where they are? Do they think they're close to
the playoffs? Or and they are they in full rebuild mode?
Where you go when you draft your quarterback of the
future as showing one of these old older guard that

(11:53):
are out there, right, what is Kirk Cousin? What is
Aaron Rodgers? Sam Darnold, He's still young, been in the
league a while. Do you bank on the guy you
saw for those fourteen weeks or did the Rams and
the Lions did they show you enough to where yeah,
I don't want that? Or do you just say, hey,
those are two defenses that really just had his number.

(12:15):
All of that to say, you know, for the Aaron
Rodgers market, I don't know. He showed me down the stretch.
He could still put up some numbers. And if he's
willing to be that guy, like that's the thing. Right
for both he and Russell Wilson, I'd be more apt
to believe that Aaron Rodgers could be the guy that
recognizes I'm a bridge, I need to be a teacher,

(12:35):
rather than I think Russell Wilson.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Now I'm measuring him like being some kind of yogi.
I'm a bridge. I'm a bridge. Look at me and
think of me as a big golden gate bridge.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
When my arms are spread out, Yeah, that's the car
getting from one side of me to the other side.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
I'm a bridge.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
It is funny because I was watching part one revisiting
the old documentary series about George Harrison, and it was
a lot about you know, mysticism and yogi's and what
he learned from Robbie Shankar and company as the Beatles
went on towards their end and he began his solo career.
But for Aaron Rodgers, very much the same thing, right

(13:13):
has he learned that, Hey, I only have a year
or two left, so I need to be a good
teammate and I could be the mentor, right, all the
things he was trying to say, maybe to hang on
with the Jets. Does someone else, Pete Carroll or some
other team, you know, the Raiders or somebody else, Do
they believe that that is the case. Otherwise, Yeah, it's

(13:34):
a terrible year.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Zach Wilson's a top five.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Guy in the.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
You couldn't even get that out with a straight ft. Legitimately.
You couldn't even get that out legitimately.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
If you go and you rank quarterbacks in the marketplace,
it's all right because you don't get Rogers or Kirk
Cousins for free. They both have contracts and you have
to either give up assets or wait for them to
get the buy out and be a free agent in
the marketplace. And then we go to the draft. Do

(14:04):
you love any of these guys? No?

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Are they projects? Maybe?

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Well, you got to be secure as a coach, as
a GM that you get to hang around if you
bring one of them in.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
This is where teams like the Cardinals and the Bengals
and the Chargers and the Cowboys, right, how much more
do you love Kyler Murray today? Looking around the marketplace.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Everybody complained about his contract, but it's like, well, we
know what he is.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
I don't got the problems everybody else does. Yeah, good
luck with that, alright, right.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
I mean Joe Burrow may be complaining about them not
spending money and all.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
The free agents he may lose.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
But if you're a Bengals fan, we got a lot
of problems and questions, but we got that guy.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Our guy might not be any good, but boy is
better than nobody that you have. Oh, I'm feeling great.
That's what worst year to get a quarterback?

Speaker 6 (14:50):
Man?

Speaker 3 (14:50):
It is, I'm telling you it is a well.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Look at the rumor that may or may not have
been real. Did the Steelers call the Jaguars or not?
That ends up setting the world on absolute We get
to that. Yeah, we'll get to that in earnest. But
it's one of those things like if that's legit, great,
If not, it still was a fun day of theater.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
That's how desperate we.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Are at the position exit out about a Fresca exit
swollen dome.

Speaker 3 (15:14):

Speaker 3 (18:10):
What's going on?

Speaker 6 (18:11):
You stupid yo?

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Hey at this point, Rick, without you know, not knowing
who's coming to the rescue for the knicks off the bench,
I would take cupe it off the bench.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
You know we could shoot.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
I mean, you know we can shoot.

Speaker 5 (18:25):
Ooh, I'll tell you what Like when you got a
scrap to beat the Atlanta Hawk. Man, that's not the direction.
That's not the direction that you want to be going.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Hey, hey, it's a victory that I don't see Trey
Young like trying to take parts of the MSG court
waving the fans with him at the end of a
game we won last night.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
It's fine, he gets the lead with an.

Speaker 6 (18:47):
L yeh no, you know.

Speaker 5 (18:50):
The the interesting thing for me is it's like, how
many guys are they going to Trey who are tired
of playing with Trey Young before they go instead come
on DeAndre Hunters, Like, oh, honestly, I was. I know

(19:15):
the world was shocked by the Luca Dantis trade, as
was I, but I was second most shocked that the
Atlanta Hawks traded DeAndre Hunter and they traded into the
Cleveland Cavaliers, who needed exactly they needed a DeAndre Hunter,
twenty seven year old wing shooting forty from three point range,

(19:37):
like those guys are gold in the leaf today, and
they gave him to the Cleveland Cavaliers for for for
Keros Lavert and George Yang Nyang, neither one of whom
was going to be playing meaningful minutes when it really

(19:59):
got down to it for the Clevelan and Cavaliers, bogged
and Bogdani is the same thing.

Speaker 6 (20:03):
Like, I mean, it's look.

Speaker 5 (20:07):
And when I'm getting off track here talking about Trey,
but like, Trey is an absolute master at the pick
and roll and uh and and and he's fascinating to
watch and he's great. But it's not winning basketball. And
at some point, guys just go, you look really good,
that's really good.

Speaker 6 (20:26):
We can't win, like.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
And they get a little frustrated, and the Atlanta Hawks go, Okay,
you're frustrated to see you because we like, we like
this trade show.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
Good for DeAndre Hunter. Yeah, all right, So now you
talk about the Luca trade. We've seen a couple of games. Now,
the Lakers look really good. In the first one, they
didn't even get off the plane last night. But okay,
I'll give the mulligan on that they had played really well.
They're at the top of the Pacific Division. Anything you've
seen the first couple of games that that sticks out

(20:58):
for you, great for the Lakers going forward.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
Concerns going forward, where are you?

Speaker 5 (21:03):
I look, I'm not worried about Luca and Lebron being
able to play together and you know it is. It
is fun to watch two guys who can pass the
ball like Luka and Lebron can to create shots. But
as you saw in the second game, and I you know,
I would push back a little bit on they looked

(21:24):
great in the first game. I thought the Utah Jazz
looked like a team that didn't belong in the NBA
in the first game, I mean, they were they were harrendous.
I was like Jordan, what happened to Jordan Clarson? He's
just like a chucker now. And Kessler Walker I've always
been high on, and he's like he was invisible. And

(21:44):
but I think what you saw in the second game,
which is the way I would approach it is I
am going to get up and down on the on
the Lakers as much as I'm going to push tempo
the whole game. Miss her make on their I am
pushing temple because there is no way that Lebron and

(22:06):
Luca want to play transition defense. And when Jackson Hayes
is off the floor, I know they picked up Alex Len.
Jackson Hayes is off the floor, they have no rim protection.
I mean even the first game, Utah was getting to
the rim at will.

Speaker 6 (22:21):
They just couldn't.

Speaker 5 (22:21):
Finish a shot, and they essentially did in the second game,
and the altitude got to them.

Speaker 6 (22:28):
The other thing that concerns me is Luca after the
second game says, yeah, I'm really looking forward to this
breaka two games.

Speaker 5 (22:49):
You just played two games. He does not look like
he's in shape. I think he has certainly won the
battle with the letter to the people who were subjected
to the fires in la and donating five hundred thousand
dollars compared to the Dallas Mavericks ownership, like saying all

(23:16):
that they said about him not being a stand up
guy and not having the work ethic and character and
all that stuff. I mean, Dallas Mavericks have not handled
this divorce well at all. You know, it's it's they've
lost that battle. But when I look at the shape

(23:39):
that Luca is in, I have some concerns, like it's
hard to get into shape over the course of the season.
And when I look at the rest of that roster,
the last thing I'm worried about is Lebron and Luca
being able to play together as much as like who
else is able to contribute. Dorian Cinny Smith is exactly

(24:04):
the kind of player that you need to play alongside
those guys, but you need about four more of those
type guys and they simply don't have them. And meanwhile,
I'm looking over at Dallas, and I think one of
the things that was maybe underappreciated was how good Max
Christy has become and how much he was doing for

(24:25):
the Lakers, because since he's been in Dallas, he has
been in the closing lineup every single game. And I
know they're shorthanded, but he's in the in the closing
lineup and he's contributing, and so yeah, I mean, you know, well,
I think they're thirty two and twenty. But I look
at the Western Conference and it is what are we

(24:48):
talking about? Like the Timberwolves, the MAVs, the Kings, the Warriors,
like they're all playing teams right now. I think, if
I'm not mistaken, and like, it is going to be
such a dog fight to try to get into the
top six. And then if you're in the play ins,
there's gonna be some really good teams dooking get out.

(25:09):
So I don't know that parody ever, you know, parody
really doesn't work for the in the big scheme of
things for the NBA. But just as a basketball fan,
the Western Conference is going to be a blood bath
and I'm kind of looking forward to it.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
To that end, Steve Kerr a lot of whining yesterday,
but motivation as they get a big win on the
road against Houston today, as you're going into the break,
Jimmy Jimmy Butler playing some big minutes. Steph Curry seemingly
has another running mate, and the young guys came up
pretty well for them tonight here. I mean, I like
that Houston squad, but what do they look like this

(25:47):
is the second half? Is Jimmy Butler enough of a
guy to help push the push the needle in the
right direction.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
He's certainly pushing them in the right direction. Whether it's
going to be enough is going to be the question.
I think health is going to be a big issue
because you're talking about all mid thirty something guys. You know,
can Steph Steph play back and back and had a
pretty solid performance. That generally has not been the case
this year anytime he's had to play back and back.
And let's face it, where they are, they don't have

(26:15):
a margin, so you know they're gonna have to. They're
going to have to look at playing him probably more
minutes than they want to, and in more back to
back than they want to. But Jimmy Butler has definitely
brought something to them that Andrew Wiggins was not, and

(26:36):
I want to see them once they get Jonathan Kaminga back.
I think if you get Kaminga back, and that probably
means fewer minutes for Buddy healed, and that would probably
be a good thing. Right now, So I think they're
I think they're intriguing. I think they have a puncher's
chance of I mean more likely than not. They're probably

(26:58):
a play in game playing team again, But then when
you look at the combination of guys that they have,
I think they could potentially.

Speaker 6 (27:09):
Get out of the.

Speaker 5 (27:10):
Play in and into the playoffs. Do I then think
they're gonna win around? Probably not. I mean, I'll put
it this way. I think the ceiling for this team
is winning around in the playoffs. And but that is
a higher ceiling than I would have given them before

(27:33):
they made the Jimmy Butler trade. So they have improved.
I just don't know, you know, And I'd say the
same thing goes to the Lakers. You know, we're holding
on to Lebron. And I heard it, like I guess
I heard it after the first game against Utah, like
talking about, hey, you know what they could they could

(27:54):
win another championship. I'm like, what do we stop?

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Come on, we live in hot take nonsense, Rick, the
show is tonight.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
I mean, come on.

Speaker 5 (28:08):
Oh, It's just it hurts my brain when we sleep
to these fantastical conclusions, all of it because you know,
we want to see Lebron and Steph doing it one
more time, and it's like, you gotta let go of
that at some point. See, well, even if they're capable
of it, their teams are not. That's the heart of it.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
Well, here's the thing, Rick, to take to go from
a teams we want to see do it again. This
is why I loved them doing nothing at the deadline,
because I thought all they had just get healthy and
gel and don't trade Porter Junior. And look at the Nuggets.
They've won eight in a row. It's the best offense
in the NBA right now.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
You'll get just.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
Back at the beginning of the of the or at
the top of the MVP conversation with SGA. I'm not
gonna be surprised when it's the Nuggets to get out
of the Western Conference of the NBA Finals.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
They are just a seen right now.

Speaker 5 (29:01):
Yeah, and we're taking Nikola Jokic for granted. The dude
is averaging it. He's averaging thirty four, twelve and ten.
He's shooting forty five percent from three point range. He's
upped his the number of threes that he's taking, which
was really what cost them last year is that he
couldn't hit a three and he looked hesitant shooting threes.

(29:22):
He came back clearly wanting to like, I gotta I
gotta tighten that up. I gotta get that right and
has And so from the beginning of the year was
was just the way, seeing the way Jokic, the way
that he was approaching the season, I gave him a chance.
But but that's dead. And we please take a look

(29:45):
at who they've played these astate games. They've played the
Portland Trailblazers twice, They've played the New Orleans Pelicans twice.
They've played the Philadelphia seventy six ers and the Charlotte Hornets.
If I'm not mistaken, like, let's slow down, just the

(30:05):
lead of what miss winning streak means because they've been
shooting fish in a barrel here. Okay, it's not it's
not they they haven't been playing like okay, see in
Boston and Cleveland and Milwaukee and yeah, you know, Memphis

(30:26):
and whatever like they've they've it's been a they've take
they've taken advantage of the schedule. They've done what they're
supposed to do. But uh, you know, I still I
still wonder, like can they get enough out of you know,
Michael Porter Junior quite honestly, and Aaron Gordon after losing

(30:48):
his brother, like those those are just that's that's real
life stuff. And and both of them have had you know,
personal issues or issu's surrounding them off the court, and
and and those things can impact players just like they
impact anybody else in doing their job. And this is

(31:11):
such a high wire act playing in the NBA, and
there's so much pressure that just things like that can
suck the focus and the energy out of guys. And
it's not their fault, it's life. But it's enough that
it can take a team that has championship aspirations and
it can be just enough to the you know, it's

(31:33):
not like they have this huge margin of error. But
I will say this, Nicolae Jokich looks like he's trying
to make up for all of it, and I would
not one. I would not bet against him, and I
would not like I think people maybe had a fatigue
on want to give the MVP to Shay Gilgs Alexander.
I am in no way doing that right now for me.
I think if it's not neck and neck, Jokic certainly

(31:57):
is very much right there in terms of winning another MVP.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
He's on Twitter at Rick Buker, that is at Rick Bucher.
Check out the On the Ball podcast as well. Rick
as always Buddy appreciated my friend and joy All Star Weekend.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
We'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 6 (32:10):
I certainly will see.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
I'd rather be good there, he goes Rick Bucher.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
Great stuff from him, you know, instead of trading all
the guys around Tredon.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
He makes a very solid point.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sportsmanth Disney fan who's been called the ursula
of Fox Sports radio man. She's got an incredible voice,
but really where did she get it from?

Speaker 3 (32:34):
It's Monty Milanos.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
I really can't sing for you know what, that's not me.
I would definitely steal someone's voice like I.

Speaker 5 (32:41):
Would have to.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
You would Whose voice would you steal?

Speaker 4 (32:46):
That's a good one one, Olivia Rodrigo Right now, I
like a voice that can yell and sing, like like
Hailey Haley from Paramore.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
Haley Haley Joel Osmon.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
No, wow, he was really good in the entrage Moy
Paramore Haleywell, Hailey Ot Well, yeah, Hailey is what it is?

Speaker 3 (33:04):
No, well, she is in a state show right now
with Hailey Williams. Hailey Williams, Okay, like those that can
scream but sing at the same time.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
Ashley Simpson, Okay, I mean she can't scream and yell
at the same Yeah, she could do, did you?

Speaker 3 (33:26):
Yeah? Well.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
The Clippers are making things interesting against the Jazz. They
are up one fifteen to one fourteen in overtime with
ninety seconds to go. James Harden thirty two points, ten rebounds,
seven assists. Ben Simmons in his debut for the Clippers.
He actually has got twelve points, seven rebounds, couple of assists, but.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
Man, he does not want to shoot the ball.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
Like.

Speaker 4 (33:49):
It's so weird to see him get the ball at
the top of the key and then not even look
at the basket, just pass it to a corner, Like
I I don't understand that mentality with Ben Simmons, but
he's he's been playing defense well for the Clippers on
his debut and does have some points, which is just
crazy to see that broke. It's just crazy to see, like,
doesn't even look at the basket, you know what I'm saying.

(34:11):
Nasried led the wave for the Timberwolves as they took
down the number one seat in the Western Conference the
Thunder one sixteen to one oh one. Reid had twenty
seven points and thirteen rebounds. The Mavericks, who literally had
nobody playing today. They scratched Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving.
They came out on top of the Heat one eighteen
to one thirteen. But Espan is reporting that Daniel Gafford

(34:31):
will miss at least six weeks after sustaining a Grade
three right mcl spring. They're also expecting Anthony Davis and
Derek Lively to miss a significant amount of time as well.
In the second half of the season, CJ McCollum had
forty three points and the Pelicans beat the Kings in
overtime one forty to one. Thirty three Warriors they beat
the Rockets one oh five to ninety eight. Right now,

(34:53):
in women's college hoops, the undefeated team you see LA
number one team taking on number six USC. Yes, and
UCLA is up fifty two to forty nine with about
seven minutes to go in the game. Lauren Betts eighteen
points for UCLA. Juju Watkins thirty points for sc In NASCAR,
Bubba Wallace was victorious in dual one at Daytona, earning

(35:16):
a third place starting position for Sunday's Daytona five hundred
and In hockey, at the Four Nations face Off, USA
crushed Finland six to one.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
Back to you guys, thank you mon see yes, Jason
Smith Mike Harmon live from the tire rac dot Com studios.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
You want a fun, great NBA take over one of
the big teams that involved in a huge deal with
the deadline.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
We got It's not Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
We got it for you coming up next right here,
Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
You really sure? I'm sure, really sure? But are you
really sure? Also is Mufford Mumford and his sons or
is it just his son.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
It's a bunch of sons. It's like a like an
auto mechanic. Shah yeah, Mumford inside Chico and the Man. Yeah, like, man,
don't be discouraged.

Speaker 4 (36:02):
The man.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
He ain't so hop Yeah, no, I'm pretty positive.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Had a feeling, we're getting Umfort and Sons. Well, let's
what you call callback Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carmon live from the tirerac dot Com Studios.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
New album coming out. You go to wait line Midnight
Madness for Mumfort and Sons.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
If there were still such a thing as midnight Madness
where they'd have T shirt giveaways and stuff, I would.

Speaker 3 (36:36):
It's now songs are just released at midnight.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
Yeah no, see, like, but I could do that sitting
in my underpants, just like earning a college degree. Don't
make me picture you're sitting in front of your underpants
at midnight, just hitting refresh on your computer.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
You know what.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
America might have been enthralled with that, even if you
were not.

Speaker 1 (36:51):
We are not too far away, maybe sixteen point seven
seconds away from.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
The All Star break in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
And speaking of the All Star break in the NBA,
let me just throw this hot take out there for
you that may not be that hot. The last four games,
this team is beating the Celtics, the Rockets, Okay, lost
to the Kings by a point in overtime, beat the

(37:20):
Warriors beat the Heat tonight. Maybe even without the guy
they got in the trade for the superstar, maybe.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
The Mavericks are better off without Luka doncic.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
Od takes so hot my keyboard is melted.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
But you know what, we talked about it the night
of the trade. Wait, wait, wait, no, it's good. Keep
it going.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
I like that, added a couple of cats. I was
actually gonna buy it. Like it get shut up in
my timeline. And then but since you're so you know,
fearful of me spending slash wasting money, I will not
buy you the flaming dumpster fire toy that you could
have put in front of you in the studio and
turn it on. That's not wasted money buying something that

(38:10):
I'm gonna get a huge amount.

Speaker 3 (38:11):
Of joy front. No, it wasted money, not wasting money. Yeah,
so I decided not to. You're just trying to You're
just trying to move the argument, that's all. No, I
just moved on.

Speaker 1 (38:20):
But the idea, like the night of the trade is like, well,
the Mavericks actually, if healthy, right when you talk about
that front line and they're waiting for Gafford to come
back and like and Lively and others to come back,
and now obviously Anthony Davis to come back, that this
is a team that the old if healthy for the

(38:40):
playoff run, they're actually built pretty well with Kyrie Irving
leading the charge. And last night he did a full cell.
He was still there signing autographs like an hour and
a half after the game ended. Well he was, and
now he's like, hey, it's my team again.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
But that's just it.

Speaker 1 (38:54):
He was like, hey, I'm the guy. Right, he was
wearing the point God T shirt underneath his jersey when
he did his game interview. All of those things, but
a guy to say, hey, we're gonna be okay. And
I think I agree with you. This is a team that, again,
if healthy, could make some noise. I mean, just think
about how the last few days we've we've heard a
lot more boy, Luca really didn't want to get in shape,

(39:16):
and how last night he looked like he wasn't in shape,
and Rick Bukeer telling us, I'm looking forward to the break.
He's played two games since December, since.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
Since Christmas Day. Yeah, he hasn't been available and certainly
on a minute's restriction.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Certainly a reality. And look, the negative press campaign by
Dallas has been fantastic. Yeah, no, it's worked. But just realize,
and this goes back. This is not something. This goes
back to what we said when the trade happened. Remember,
the Mavericks didn't just decide to wake up one day
and say let's trade Luca, right. They traded him for
a reason. You think they didn't try, well, you got

(39:50):
to make it work with a start. You think they
didn't try. I think they didn't try to get him
to stay in shape. They try to get it. They
tried a lot. He was there a long time. They
got to the pier and they realized, okay, hey he's
not gonna stay. We don't want to give him three
hundred and thirty million dollars. They traded Luka Doncic for
a reason. As good as he is, as great as
he could be short term with the Lakers. He gets
his act together that that doesn't change. But remember they

(40:13):
traded him for a reason, and here they are after
the first game or so to get used to Hey,
the big shock of the trade of Luca and Ad
coming in Boston, Houston, Golden State, Miami one point away
from us from a five game win streak. Maybe Dallas
is gonna be okay. Maybe they are gonna be better
off without Luca. Will they celebrate Nico properly in Dallas?

(40:35):
If it works, they will build a statue of him.
Is this kind of like the Sirianni with the Eagles?
It'll be like you.

Speaker 3 (40:42):
It'll be holding his hands up while people throw stuff
at him. Fox
