(00:49):
before we get to a way to help, I'm always
about positivity, right, what's wrong with NBA All Star Weekend?
It's always as a big topic of conversation because I
have a good idea that's not about the actual game itself,
but a way to get more eyeballs. Okay, but first,

(01:10):
last night we talked about the canceling of the Steph Curry,
Sabrini and Escue three point challenge. Right, there was a
big deal. Last year was a big hit, great thing
that the NBA hit on, and for some reason, they're
not doing it this year. Wait what, No, we can't
find a reason to have what? Why can't you do
it again? I don't understand. Why can't you get other

(01:32):
people to do it? I don't get it. And the
NBA put out a statement saying that we just couldn't
make it come together. We wanted to make it. You know,
every year they want to make it bigger than the
year before. And we found out that they looked into
potentially doing a two on two where it was Steph
b Steph Curry and someone like Klay Thompson one of

(01:53):
his former teammates, against Sabrinian Escue and maybe Caitlin Clark,
and that didn't happen. Well Kate and Clark. Remember she
said a few weeks ago, Hey, I want to make
my next All Star Game is gonna be Indiana this year.
I want to do that instead of being at the
NBA game. E. Look, there are reasons why she made
that decision. I'm sure she thought, am I gonna just

(02:14):
get criticized and raked over the coals because oh, here's
Caitlyn Clark at the NBA All Star Game. Caitlin, do
whatever you want. People are gonna find a way to hate.
Live your life. Be a star. Help the NBA. They
could use your help. And we told you last night
that you know you have any doubt that Caitlin Clark
is the biggest star in all of professional basketball. All

(02:36):
you needed to see is that a Steph Curry event,
a Steph Curry led event, got canceled where if Caitlyn
Clark took part in it, it would have been greenlit
and we would have had it. Right, Like, Steph Curry
is a huge star. He owned is probably the best
image of any star in the NBA. Everybody loves Steph Curry.
He's not polarizing. Everybody loves him. Right. He's a huge star.

(03:00):
And he had his event canceled, and if Caitlyn Clark
had played in it, then it would have happened. It
would have been a big deal. She is the biggest
star in all of basketball. It is. Look at the
television ratings of her games versus some NBA Finals ratings
of games, and and it's and it's better, and it's
bigger I I and you wanna you wanna par uh
parse that out here, like we're having these these crazy

(03:23):
rookie games tonight and the run TMC games and all
of this, and you know, look, it's barely rating. You know,
we're paying attention to it a little bit. But if
Kitlyn Clark was doing something, hey, we'd be all over it,
right to be front page news. Conversely, with the three
point shootout Saturday, if she was playing, hey, front page news.
If she was in a game on Sunday, if it
was some kind of NBA All Star game where it

(03:45):
was we're playing the same thing with the mixed with
with mixed teams on Sunday where it's gonna be you know,
teams of eight and it's four NBA stars and four
w NBA stars playing together at the same time. And
I mean, all of a sudden, that's a huge deal.
And Caitlyn Clark is playing, people are gonna watch, like
I mean, I really, I don't think it's a it's
it's a stretch to say that. Then we have a

(04:06):
lot of big stars in the NBA, don't get me wrong,
we do. But the biggest star in all of basketball
right now regardless of league. Is Caitlin Clark and and
and and that Steph Curry story from last night. That's
really the only thing you need to know that. But
I'll give you what's going on this weekend. If she
was involved, it would be bigger news. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
I mean you go back to what we put up
and you can find it Instagram and and on acts,
et cetera. It's done great, great business, uh, and viral
and and folks getting a little bit excitable about it, uh,
positively negatively, Uh, but the honest discussion of you know
what's gonna move the needle? Now, you had a couple
of w NBA players as part of the celebrity game earlier,

(04:47):
but most of that was trying to figure out who
the hell uh some of the folks were and why
they were famous?

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Right, why you know any kind of don't got to
google this person. I gotta google you. I don't know
who you I gotta google.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
But we have those conversations right with my daughters there,
like they'll mention them who And as soon as they
start by saying, well, influencer, I'm like, all right, I'm
going back to whatever the hell I was doing, Like, no, no,
for work. What do they do? Like, like what are
what are they shilling for?

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Like?

Speaker 3 (05:17):
What are we doing here? What's the bit? Uh, don't
don't just say influencer, give me more. But he had
a couple of w NBA players there. Rakia Jackson was
one of them. She had I think sixteen points paying
attention to a couple of big shots late and all that.
But just to the idea of all right, you got
some participation in crossover there. I know Nike actually released

(05:41):
a couple of Caitlin Clark shirts earlier, so people were
excited that they had some merch to buy. So she
got that going for you. But the whole point was
you had a Steph Curry event canceled the guy that's
been teflon right even with the a Kevin Durant, we
brought him to town. It was look what an unassuming

(06:01):
superstar is. Come on in, buddy, I get the credit,
You'll get the blame. Eh, you got the MVPs, but
nobody cares because I'm Steph Curry, you know, and I'm
the whiz and nobody beats me. So it's that kind
of thing. But getting her participation would have been absolutely huge,
even if she just shows up to shake hands and

(06:22):
kiss babies.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
You don't have to do anything else.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Right, I mean, there's viral videos of what her boyfriend
did for her for Valentine's Day that are outrating anything
that you're putting on. In terms of these competitions, we
wish all all the rising stars, the G League guys,
all those guys well, but it's it just gets absolutely
obliterated by the talk of what could have been. And

(06:48):
they knew for weeks and part of the you know,
my side of things, as we talked about yesterday, Jayson,
was you knew for weeks that she said no, and
you didn't pivot or come up with another eye idea.
Right now, we're gonna have a faux wrestling event. You know,
We're gonna grab a couple of NXT stars and make

(07:08):
them part of the X experiment. They're gonna fight in
the middle of a game. I don't know, something crazy
that would have gotten folks excited. You did nothing instead,
quietly at the last yeah, I got nothing. But here's
a press release on all the international flavor that we've
got for the dub for the NBA and the marketing
and management and look at the rosters of all our

(07:29):
international talent. That's all great, and you know, get in
there and sell, sell, sell, which can, but it doesn't
take away from the fact that you canceled an event
that you were trying to build off a last year's
success because one person wouldn't participate.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
She had that.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Much juice for you to just say, yeah, just scrap it.
I think that is incredible. Homers Simpson, looks your idea
to make this better?

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Oh all right.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Great, I added some racing stripes on there. That's pretty
good to make it your aerodynamic, like when he built
the power plant and Grimy and Grimey was losing his mind, right, Yeah,
he's in there with a bunch of children. Yeah, and
he's kicking their butts. But for Caitlyn Clark, like the
legend grows that much more this weekend off of this story.

(08:19):
I mean, think about it, just the the the gravitas
of yeah, I just don't care and I don't want
to do it. This dements all these all stars that
don't want to show up, that don't want to participate.
And to Mark Stein and what we've talked about a
bunch Jason for years. It's a convention it's a sponsor event.

(08:42):
Show me some of the business transactions at this point.
Make it shark tank at this look woint.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
No, no, because because if you know, because we're about
solving stuff. Look and they if you see that the
Caitlyn Clark take at Fox Sports Radio, Twitter, Twitter at
how about a Fresco swollen dome? You can see it
there from last night. Uh, but about to solve some right, Yeah,
and maybe sometime solving something is not about the event,

(09:07):
but it's about when you have it. Okay, because just
think about this. Now here's NBA All Star weekend and
when does it show up? The weekend after the Super Bowl,
right after a lot of people have spent the last
month sitting on their couches every Saturday and Sunday watching
football wall to wall. Okay, so now here's this weekend

(09:27):
and the NBA has got All Star weekend. Yeah, it's
pretty easy to say. I think I can miss NBA
All Star Weekend and I can go to the movies
and go see Captain America, or I can go do something.
I don't need to do this on Sunday. Right, there's
an easy way to skip it because you've just had well,
really You've had four months of just sitting watching football
because the college football season just ended eight minutes ago.

(09:49):
So you've had this now, so it's easy to just say, hey,
if I catch it on Saturday and Sunday, I catch it.
What if instead of NBA All Star weekend ut NBA
All Star Week, Right, you finish the season, you finish
the first half. Let's just say quote, everybody plays on
a Sunday, Right, Monday is off. Let's just say starting

(10:13):
next week, right, Monday is off. Tuesday you have the
rookie games. Whatever you have at night, it's on television,
DNT and ESPN have it. Wednesday is the Slam Dunk Contest,
three point shooting concept, whatever else you want to have.
And then Thursday is the big NBA All Star Night
where you have the games with Team Chuck and Team
Kenny and Team Shack and all that stuff. You could

(10:35):
do whatever you want to. You own the news cycle
and get more relevancy if you put this on at
night during the week because there's no games. Right, there's
no games going on. Your college basketball is Saturday and Sunday. Look,
the NHL has have time off all of this. You
can take this time you take ten days anyway, So

(10:56):
just make it during the week where, Okay, this is
the only NBA you're gonna get Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday,
and then we're gonna be off Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and
we'll get back to it and again college basketball Saturday
and Sunday. Everything is fine, and then you get back
to it the following Tuesday or Wednesday. Right, everybody's got
a nice long break, and it's ten days, and even

(11:17):
the guys that go play All Stars are done by Thursday.
But you have three nights of ready made TV events
where you can also have things like you said, that
can go on. Hey, tonight is gonna be the Rookie game,
and it's going to be this, you know, some kind
of show, a manning cast for the NBA whatever it's
gonna be. And if you have that, you have the

(11:38):
news cycle. It's easy to ignore All Star stuff on
the weekends. It just is right. It's easy to ignore
a lot of non aa a list of events on
the weekends if they're not there, especially when you're coming
off of everybody watching NFL the last few months and
stop nobody as well. I'm an NBA fan, I don't
watch the NFL.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
No.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Stop. It's not like I haven't do an n now
I want to sit and watch TV. No, that's kind
of how it goes. So understand the TV habits of
people play into this thing as well, and realize that, Okay,
you're coming off all of the NFL. I get you
want to wait and you want to have All Star
weekend after the NFL has done. You don't want to
do it on the dead Sunday between NBA, between the

(12:19):
end of the season and the Super Bowl because it
looks like, hey, you're just kind of horning in on
the NFL, which is kind of weird. I get. You
want to have it after, have it during the week.
Have it be a three night event during the week,
and not only will you have people watching during at night,
you will have relevancy the next day. It will be
talked about. It will become a full media yearly event.
It's NBA All Star Week. I don't see how that's

(12:43):
not something you can pivot to and at least get
more eyeballs on your product where it's not something that
here's what's going on Saturday and Sunday. And as mark
Stein said, with us earlier, last hour on the show.
When Monday comes, everybody forgets about it, right, So why
do you want to have a forgettable event. Let's have
some that we talk about. Let's have something that becomes
some kind of it, and if you put it on

(13:03):
during the week, more people pay attention.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
Well, and that's the point, right is with the twenty
four hour news cycle, it becomes a weekend news dump.
Like Monday, who's talking about any of the events from tonight.
You'll talk about how much you hated the game, especially
in the tournament, especially if they just go south and
there's not a lot of juice, right because past Mondays,

(13:29):
after all Star games, it was nobody played any defense. Okay,
tell me something else. I can look at the score.
What else you got count the fouls? Okay, great again,
but give me something more. It just becomes an unmentionable
more or less a quick news update. It's like, ah,

(13:51):
well he came and went on Wednesday, we'll get back
to action and let's talk about the schedule to start
the second half and what we can expect from teams right,
eye out season, whatever else, whatever, friendships, who has seen
who was photographed with whom we could talk about the
off season of trade possibilities. That's that's where it gets entertaining.
Beyond that, it's all right, we're looking at NFL players

(14:13):
getting released, right, there's bigger seismic waves of guys like
Raheem Most are getting released in linebackers in Pittsburgh or
defensive lineman. I think Preston Smith just got released, right,
all right, what does that mean for the front seven?
Like there's more juice to that than trying to parse

(14:33):
through some of these other events and having them on
the weekend. Very easy to go away, right for folks,
like you said, you got a number of movies get released.
Oh yes, it's Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day, everybody. Thanks
for making us your loves here on Fox Sports Radio.
But you know you've got a bunch of things that
you probably abandoned at least for the playoffs. Yeah, we'll

(14:58):
get to that after after the Super bowls over. So
push it to the week. You're only fighting with college buckets.
But yeah, that's twenty four hour news cycle because the
next morning it's it's an event that just happened.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Yeah, I mean, it's an easy thing to do, at
least try it, right, you could try it. We've seen
we've seen a team say hey, I'm gonna try it. Now,
go ahead, try it, man, try it. It can absolutely Workjason, Right,
That's what I mean.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
It does up against the wall to try to make
it stick year after year. Anyway, No, it's.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Not have NBA All Star Week. We can do it. Well,
we're doing it here. Yeah, we're doing it here too.
It's it's absolutely fine. You can. If you're making all
these crazy ass changes anyway, why not doing here?

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Well? The one Mark Stein mentioned though, right, I mean
very very realistic. Right, we've been talking about the rosters,
and I know, the sanctity of hey you're an All
Star this has meaning. You don't want it to become
like the Pro Bowl where a guy's a seven time
Pro bowler? How many times did he actually play at twice?
What was he fourth? Fourth alternate? This year?

Speaker 1 (16:01):
This year?

Speaker 3 (16:02):
And then this year nobody wanted to go. So we
actually got to start, you know, like this year, I
mean you had guys decline and going, no I'm not
I'm not going I'm not at the fifth alternate. What
are we doing here? But to that point, if you
have a high more roster spots. Yeah, it's maybe more people,
you know, city to city, my guys playing, but also

(16:24):
reduce the minutes that guys are being forced to play.
So maybe when you give them that pep talk that
is evidently scheduled for Sunday, then maybe it's got a
little bit of residence. Look, I just I just need
eight minutes of good basketball from you. I don't need
time because we can cycle out right, these other five
guys are gonna come in. They're gonna take the next date. Look,

(16:44):
and then they we're close to halftime already, and then
you guys could decide amongst yourself who really wants to
play thereafter, but we want to put on a show.
Maybe you could sell that a little bit more to
guys in terms of promoting your game, your festive and
whatever sponsors have bought ad time, all right, because that's
really what we're all we're talking about here in terms

(17:07):
of convincing folks, is it's got to be something that
really affects their wallets. And I mean the collective wallet,
not the individuals. An extra five hundred grand or a
million dollars is not moving the needles. Most guys don't
show up for an autograph appearance for less than you know,
seven figures guaranteed if you're a top notch NBA player,

(17:28):
because it ain't worth your time. So yeah, you've got
to think radically about it, and why not start to
shuffle it as opposed to, Hey, the guys that won
the Rising Stars they get to compete with the All
Star teams, Like, what the hell is that?

Speaker 4 (17:44):
Like?

Speaker 3 (17:45):
If the whole thing is you don't want to dilute
it by including roster spots. Now we're just gonna have
a separate team of guys that well well are now
essentially all stars. It makes no sense.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
Exit, how about a Fresco exit, swall and dome Jason
Smith Mike Harmon live from the Tiraq dot Com Studios.
Coming up next, we'll lot more NBA on the way,
But straight ahead, is the NFL Draft class when it
comes to quarterbacks of twenty twenty five really that bad?
There is nobody better to answer that question than our guests.
Coming up next, Keep it right here, Jason to Mike

(18:20):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the Tirack dot com studios.
So as we get set for the combine, we are
turning attention to the NFL Draft. And you know, we
talked about this last night on the show that this
might be the wrong year for your team to need
a quarterback, because wow, is it look like it's gonna

(18:54):
be really thin when it comes to the draft. But
is it really joining us now in the line? Nobody
better college football inside or extraordinary owner proprietor Grand Pooba
of College Footballnews dot com. You're one stop shopping for
everything college football. It's a long time front of the show.

(19:14):
Pete feu tech, Pete. What's happening man?

Speaker 4 (19:17):
Gentlemen? How are you this Friday night?

Speaker 1 (19:19):
Buddy goody? Hey, Happy Valentine's.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
Day and to you too, exactly. So it's I hope
it's going well on you know, tonight, considering that you're
talking to me instead of by doing something more fun.
But yeah, I hope it's going well.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
This does not work, It's that's it's kind of tough
to say, Hey, I need Valentine's Day off. That's a
that's a tough one, Pete, that's a right Halloween. I
have young kids, I have the Yeah, it's tough.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
You do President's Day off?

Speaker 1 (19:47):
I get president, you know me huge George Washington fan, huge,
Christopher Jackson Hamilton, I need, I need Washington's birth Oh okay, great,
you picked.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
The Garfield death a little hard, you know? Back? Yeah,
so you agree safe, I got Joe.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Yeah, I'm looking back at the presidency of William Henry Harrison.
I got thirty days.

Speaker 4 (20:06):
Break down exactly. Yeah, the mediocre president. Yeah, very good.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Yeah, you don't find their pictures on dollars or on cents.
All right. So, so first, before we get into it,
overarching this quarterback class where cam Ward scha Door Sanders
will go in the top two, and then there's a
host of guys Kyle McCord, Quinn Ewers, Jalen Milroe, Jackson Dart.
Is the quarterback class really that bad?

Speaker 4 (20:32):
Well kind of, but like here's the problem compared to
what I mean, the problem was, we're we were all spoiled.
Kit and Daniel screwed it all up. You're not supposed
to do that, and everyone's gonna say, like, I lived
here at Chicago and I was like, what he should
have drafted Jay No, you should have drafted Jim Carter
a couple of years ago. But you you should have

(20:55):
Caleb believes is fine. Let's to see what he does
when he gets a little more time. He's a rookie,
all that kind of stuff. But Jaydon Daniels obviously was
great night out of box. Drake may was really good
right away, and so it's like, oh, well, we want
our quarterbacks to do that right away, and it doesn't
always work like that. Look at the two guys who
are just in your Super Bowl. I mean, Jalen Hurts.

(21:16):
I keep getting this right. I think he was the
second rounder. I think the Eagles took him second secat
or third, whichever one it was. It certainly wasn't a
top five overall pick. And he now he's the Super
Bowl MVP and one of the best players in the league.
Lamar Jackson probably should have won the MVP again. Drafted
late in the first round, Josh Allen slid. He is

(21:37):
your MVP. He slid in the first round a little bit,
just to get the mix there. Patrick Mahomes Obviously the
Chiefs traded up, but he wasn't a top five pick,
so you don't have to necessarily say, well, this guy's
an absolute sure thing franchise player, because those four guys
weren't and it turned out to work out fine. So
you can probably get a good value guy and take

(21:59):
your maybe hope this works out. And certainly there's going
to be a Sam Darnold and twenty five million dollars
of your money out there on the free agent market
to get you buy for a year if you need.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
So what does Tennessee do at one? Are they going quarterback?
The trade the pick? Or do you do you buy
the generational guy? I can't pass up rhetoric at the GM.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
Yeah you can't. You just I think you trade down.
I mean, because someone's get with all this said, someone's
got to get a quarterback because there are only so
many of them out there, and who out there needs one.
You're the Raiders, you got to get a quarterback. You're
the Jets, You've got to get a quarterback. You know
again the Tennessee now you know, if you don't really
buy that, Will Levis is going to turn this around.

(22:42):
You've got to get a quarterback. So there's a lot
of teams out there that need to upgrade a quarterback
or get their future quarterback. So uh so, yeah, go
after Shoodo or standards. I like it better than cam Ward.
Everyone else seems to like cam wored better. I don't
buy into Jackson Dart. I just it's a system guy
who tried to steer everyone away from the No, Matt

(23:03):
Carrall is not a top five overall pick. Everybody things
in that Ole Miss system under DuMaine Kiffin. It just
he just gets inflated stats. It just doesn't work out
quite well. But okay, so take him later and maybe
it works out, and if it doesn't, okay, just keep
moving on. But again, you're gonna get some pretty decent
value because these quarterbacks are gonna fly, because this is

(23:26):
a great draft for pass rushers, and so there's gonna
be a lot of good defensive linemen that people that
everyone's gonna want because everyone's going to run and replicate
the Philadelphia Eagle thing of just getting lots and lots
of lots of guys who can jump on the quarterback's
head and do that and everything else GEPs the.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
Ball play, all right, So if you said you're not
a Jackson Dark fan, and obviously we're gonna get some
order of cam Ward Shador Sanders going in the top three.
In fact, I think it's gonna go Travis Hunter one
and then Cleveland, and two is gonna take cam Ward,
and three is gonna be Shador Sanders to the Giants
because it feels like the chador and are clearing the
decks to make sure he gets to the Giants. So

(24:03):
if that happens, who's the next quarterback? You like? Who
should be the next quarter And if you say Kyle McCord,
you'll be on the show from now for the rest
of your life. So but don't all influence you. Who
do you like? Who's the next quarterbacks?

Speaker 4 (24:15):
So the last thing up on college footballnews dot com
is a little you know, a little love half to
you on this Valentine's Day, analyzing the Syracuse the brutal
schedule for next year.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
Already, it's a tough schedule in the history of mankind. Yes,
I understand it actually is.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
It's actually no joke. It is the actual tough people.
But their road games in the tennesting game to start
it actually probably is the toughest schedule out of all
the Power four teams. But we've only got like eight
months to say here that one out. That's your question.
I mean the kind of a round about couple of weeks.
First of all, I will say I don't like Jackson Dart,
mostly because I can't really I'm not really sure of

(24:49):
how to spell his first name without looking at it
over and over again, and so it's kind of annoying.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
To me.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
There, like my grandfather in law or at the day X,
I just have to it out. Two, I know I'm
the guy who said that Travis Hunter has no chance
to win the hisman, save your money. Don't do that.
I don't take Travis Hunter the one. Just come on people.
And Third to answer your question, Actually, I think when

(25:16):
hears is fine, you know, you know, pushing the ball
down the field seventy five yards with a flick of
his wrist. But he can move an offense. And I
don't want to say he's a brock pretty type, but
he's kind of a brock pretty type where he's not
going to be spectacular, but he just knows how to
complete mid range passes and keep things moving. And I

(25:37):
think he's good enough to be one of those guys
who will be a very functional starting quarterback for a
long time.

Speaker 3 (25:43):
All right, we had closed the loop. Hurts was the
fifth quarterback taking fifty third overall back in the twenty
twenty draft.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
Who's like the fourth? Who are the guys who I
think actually is a pretty good draft if I'm not
mistaken for quarterback that could.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Be right in this burrow? Then to then her than Jordan.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
Love, Yeah, that's pretty good. Okay, so that's you're forgiving.
I'll you passed on Jalen Hurt. That's a pretty good foursome.
If you look at the history of quarterbacks, it's just
a grave graveyard of just brutal, brutal picks where you
really are whiffing badly. More often than not, you're taking

(26:21):
one in the first.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
Round, no question about it. So with Sakuon Barkley's year,
Henry's year, Josh Jacobs for that matter, the year of
the running back, do we see that reflected in the
draft or is it same all same as it ever was.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
I still think you don't need to take one. I mean,
but look, what's the key to all three of those guys?
They were free agents? Just let someone else deal with you,
Go buy someone else's running back. Don't don't spend a
big draft pick on an action yanty or anything like that.
Just go out there and get the guy who you
know feels undervalued and under love and realizes he only

(26:57):
has you know, but you know, five hundred more at
bat him before it's all over because he's running back.
Life is only so long, So go do that instead
of just spitting a first rounder. And usually if you
look at the history of the recent histories, especially the draft,
is you need a great, great value later on you

(27:17):
just don't need to take Obviously, those guys are amazing,
and those guys are all early draft picks. But for
the most part you can still do just fine. If
you don't have that, you just you go get the
pass rushers, just go get the best players on the
board and just go that way. But I do I
do think Ashon Jetty is gonna slip a little bit
just because he's still a running back and running backs

(27:39):
still follow a little too far.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
You can follow on Twitter at Pete feu tech, that is,
at Pete feutech. Check out College Footballnews dot Com again
you're one stop shopping for everything college football. And to
bring this full circle, Pete few Tech predicts Syracuse will
go seven and five next year. But I like under it.
You right, this article will be updated numerous times this offseason.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
It coulda get me better than that. Look at that schedule.
That's a gift. That's a Valentine's skift.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
Lovely again check out college football news dot com. Pete
is always buddy appreciated. Man. We'll talk to you soon.
Have a great Friday, there goes Pete Feutech. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
Because the other caveat with the running back thing, though,
Jason is also build your infrastructure and then you can
plug a running back in and if he's good, he
looks that much better.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
Yeah. No, look that's look, that's it's a big thing
to sit here and say, okay, now if we come
back to the running back a little bit, and with
Barkley's success, it's why James Cook went on IG Live
the other night said, yeah, I need fifteen million a year,
like you gotta strike now because a running back carried
his team to the Super Bowl. Like you can't strike
in a year where it's two guys that threw forty

(28:54):
touchdowns of playing in the Super Bowl it's hey, Barkley
is here two thousand yards. We're important again, all right,
I need fifteen million dollars a year. Got us strike now.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
We didn't use the uh the tush push very effectively.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
I had a lot of touchdowns. Baby exit out about
a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith, Mike Harmon. Look,

(29:48):
a couple of things really well, it's Steve Desager.

Speaker 5 (29:52):
That's Travis Hunter.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Only does a couple.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
Of things really offensive defense.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
Okay, yeah, I mean.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
It's very wide earth and you can decide how you
know narrow you want to make it. He gave you
big swings there.

Speaker 5 (30:05):
Right, Well, we're at it. We'll start with football, as
the Eagles did. Hold their victory parade in Philadelphia today.
The Miami Dolphins released running back Raheem Moster, clearing nearly
three million dollars in cap space. They also released defensive
back Kenda Fuller. The Steelers cut linebacker Preston Smith. The
Broncos new special teams coordinator is Darren Rizzy from New Orleans,
so he'll work for Sean Payton again. Dolphins wide receiver

(30:29):
Tyreek Hill is due to race against Olympic sprint champion
Noah Lyles this year, according to both of them, sometime
before July. Programming notes, Sunday's Daytona five hundred TV coverage
will start one hour early due to the weather forecast.
The race will begin now at two pm Eastern time
on Fox TV. Rain is due at Daytona around three

(30:49):
or four pm Eastern on Sunday, and it'll be windy there.
Chase Briscoe will start from the pole position. This event
starts NASCAR's regular season for the Cup Series, and live
golf is right now live on FS one Saturday in Adelaide, Australia,
and Bryson de Shamba was in the lead. He's down
to a tie for sixteenth right now. This is round
two of the three rounds this weekend. Abraham Answer is

(31:11):
tied for the lead. As for the Hockey Four Nations faceoff,
it continues Saturday in Montreal, Finland against Sweden the day game,
then US at Canada tomorrow night. Thursday night is the
championship game there. As the NHL is off for almost
two weeks, no All Star game for them this year.
NBA All Star Weekend started tonight in San Francisco with

(31:32):
Team Chris Mullen winning the Rising Stars Game and Games
I should say they won a semi and then a
final shortened games MVP with Stefan Castle Spurs rookie. He
will be in the Slam Dunk Contest Saturday night. The
actual NBA All Star Game in San Francisco is Sunday evening.
It's now a four team mini tournament and the winning
team and the Rising Stars tonight will now advance to

(31:54):
be one of those competing on Sunday. Carmelo Anthony and
Dwight Howard our final for the Basketball Hall of Fame
as our coaches Mark Fugh and Billy Donovan. Among the
women's committee finalists Sue Byrd and Maya Moore, also Jennifer
Azy and Sylvia Fowls. Team USA's two thousand and eight
men's Olympic team with Kobe Bryant is also up for
the Hall as a group, as is Miami heat On

(32:17):
or Mickey Errison as a contributor. Also up for the
Hall of Fame Marcus Johnson, Buck Williams and others, and
the Basketball Hall gave Clark Kellogg, among others, the Kirk
Goudy Award for Electronic Media in College Hoots on Fox TV.
UCLA was a winner at Indiana seventy two sixty eight.
They eventually disallowed the late Hoosiers. Bucket Bruins have won
eight of nine, and the Royals re signed pitcher Cole

(32:40):
Reagan's three year extension about thirteen million dollars. Reagan's was
an All Star last summer. The Cubs full squad workouts
at spring training started today. For the Dodgers, it's tomorrow.
The Dodgers will use a five man pitching rotation after
all until Shoheo Tani returns to pitch in May, since
they are built in off days in the early schedule.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O. The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carmon live from the ti iraq dot
Com studios coming up next. It's very rare we can
do this, but I am going to offer you a
take about something big in the world of sports that
went on today that is gonna go unchallenged. You will
have no choice but to agree with it, unchallenged, unchallenged you,

(33:22):
Mike Carmen, you will. I will say it, and you
will say Nope, you are absolutely right about this. I
can't even make this an argument the other direction. Has
that happened in eleven years of doing the show. It hasn't.
But we're gonna do it next. Can't wait, Jason and
Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
You might ask yourself why are the no basketball games
this weekend? And you might ask yours health why are
there no hockey games this weekend? You might ask yourself
how come, I take till the next football game. Fox
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon, next Hobo, Well if the tire rag dot

(34:13):
Com studios. So I said it a few minutes ago.
A take that you cannot disagree with, a take that
is universal. There is no way you can disagree with
what I am going to say. That is a bold proclamation,
no way, bold strategy. Cat Let's see how it works.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
Out, very very bold. After last night, I mean, because
we have some folks saying, hey, Smith, put down your
bourbon and take a nap.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
They want me to put down more than that. After
Kaitlin Clark, Hey, I'm sorry, she's the biggest basketball star
in the world. I'm sorry she is, but she is.
But again, this is absolutely undisputed, undisputed.

Speaker 6 (34:59):
That's a big buil undisputed, undisputed. Uh, it was, it was,
it was, and we you learned that earlier tonight.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Here is an undisputed take.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
No one celebrates championships at the level of Philadelphia Eagles fans. Nobody, no,
nobody celebrate. Nobody in the history of sports celebrates winning
titles like Eagles fans. What about what about Mark Madsen
leading a throng of Laker fans. You could you could
have Mark Madsen like being a multiplicity Michael Keaton movie

(35:41):
where he's cloned, and there could be a million Mark
Madison's Nope, no candle to Philadelphia, and you like that,
We're gonna clone Mark Madson. You look at some of this,
look you remember some of the stories from the last
time they won the Super Bowl with greased up poles
and all kinds of cars kelse War, Yeah, exactly right.

(36:05):
And then you look at what happened today, and yes,
you have the great wholesome stuff like Saquon Barkley grabbing
one of the team's ball boys and picking them up
over the divider and letting him march on the parade,
which was absolutely fantastic. Nolan Smith taking a kid, putting
him on his shoulders. He can get high fives around
with everybody, although I'd feel a little weird. Yeah, give

(36:26):
me my kid back, you got ba kid. But then
you have stuff like the the guy sitting on top
of the Citizens Bank Park sign catching a beer and
chugging it, the guy sitting on top of a light
pole drinking whiskey. They're throwing beers and hogies to the
Eagles players and they're catch, Oh, we caught my HOGI
I threw it to him. It's awesome. Eye. It was
turkey and cheese, a little bit of mayonnaise and peppers.

(36:48):
It's a roasted peppers. You'll love. I got it at
Wallwide's great. Go I have it.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
You had you just want you just sign the wrapper.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
You have cops doing the gritty like, I mean, come on, pretty,
I mean this was insane. You had people still beating
up Kermit the frog dolls at the parade, and those.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
Are folks that need some mom, they need some help.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
I mean, it's and anything I saw, I'm like, I'll
believe it. Like there's all stuff on the I'm like, Nope,
I'll believe it. Nope, I'll believe it. I'll believe it'll be.
My friend, who's one of the biggest Eagles fans in
the world, sent me a video. Here's two fans, Eagles
fans getting married at the parade today. Yeah, and one
of them, one of them had an ankle monitor on.

Speaker 6 (37:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
Well, the other guy singing Fly, Eagles Fly, but he
had to keep stopping because he was throwing up sure
talking about booting and rally or the guys that were
passed out because they were overserved, and they're like, yeah,
and a half hour, that guy's gonna be leading the cheers, can't.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
I mean, this is this is everybody else is just
junior varsity, right, I mean it was junior varsity comes
And obviously there's always gonna be part. You're gonna get
some unfortunate stuff. You had a couple of people get
shot after a dispute, but it was a dispute between people,
you know, I mean obviously that that's a really tough
part and hopefully everybody is okay, you know. But but overall,
you see the the you know, you see the fun

(38:11):
and everything that went on at at at the at
the parade today, and it's, my goodness, look at this.
I even I even I even had to look at
it and delete it right away. Was was another one
of my friends sent me video of someone having a
pig roast and they had a pig with the number
and then and the pig has a number fifteen on
it from a homes and I'm like, oh my god,
what is people are, oh what what is going on here?

(38:32):
Like I got a feeling I could go to Philadelphia,
walk around that parade and go, I'll never see that again.
Every five feet, I'll never see that again. Oh, never
see that again. Won't see that again either, Oh, not
gonna see that again. Like that's how the Eagles fans
do the parade.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
A lot of folks in need of hugs and just
a pat on the bat.

Speaker 1 (38:49):
They need us. They all wanted beer thrown to them.

Speaker 3 (38:54):
Well, the guy that caught the beer, he should go
try out for the packers.

Speaker 1 (38:59):
They yeah, that beer catch on the top of the
Citizens Bank Park sign, Like he catches that behind him.
It's not like I tossed you a beer. I put
my hand out, I catch it, I fumble it. No,
he like catches it on the fly behind him, Like.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
How is that?

Speaker 1 (39:12):
What is going on here?

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Now?

Speaker 1 (39:13):
That's how the Eagles players were catching the beer. People
will get their thrown to that just sticking up their
hairs going got it, got it, got it, got it?

Speaker 3 (39:19):
But think about it next level. He had multiple guys
take injuries, right, was it blanket ship wore it right?
And then or no? No, no he was mistaken for Cooper
to Gene and you had Howie Roseman that had the
giant gash on his forehead. I'd leed for this city.
Come on, you want to talk about a guy. I mean,
they're gonna have a statue next to next to Rocky

(39:42):
for him.

Speaker 1 (39:44):
I look, and that's a great story too, he said,
I never wanted to run the steps until he won
this hurt Yeah. Yeah. And his his sweatshirt, the love
Comma Hurtz sweatshirt he was wearing. That was so awesome.
If I was an Eagles fan, I'd buy it. I'd
have bought that thing already. I just said, wear that.
I'm buying it. I don't care if it's eighty five dollars.
I'm buying that hoodie. You could make them your second team.

(40:05):
They're in the other conference and they're green, so you
know the theme would you know? Theme would go? Okay?

Speaker 3 (40:12):
I mean, look, one of them is gonna win.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
Yeah no, but really, I mean I kind of have
to go for the Lions. It's my wife's family, family's team.
I have to go for the Lions. I can't see.

Speaker 3 (40:20):
This is where you you draw plant that flag.

Speaker 1 (40:25):
Maybe they would tell me you don't come. You don't
come to Detroit rooting for the Eagles get the hell
out of here.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
Well, I mean, look, you've already jinxed them. Remember the
Montgomery flap and picking them to go to the super
Bowl that didn't end well?

Speaker 1 (40:39):
Not my fault, not my fault. I got them all
the way to the finish line. They couldn't get over it.
That's not my fault. I got them as far as
I could.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
You built that bandwagon, and then too many people came.
I told you it shouldn't have been so large. You
need to keep some of those last minute lookie lose
off to the sidelines unless they want to pay an
exorbitant price.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
What happened, All the bandwagons just got too.

Speaker 3 (41:01):
It was overweighted, so the expectations frew through.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
The roof exit out about of Fresco Swollen Dome. Jason
Smith Mike Harmon live from the tirerac dot Com studios
again undisputed. No one does winning championships like Eagles fans.
They're the best at it. They're the absolute best. Uh.
Coming up next, we get back into not one but
two big stories on NBA All Star Weekend, including a

(41:27):
big choice that maybe you might have to think a
long time before you make that pick. Fox,
