Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Oh, let's get added good evening, everybody. VJ Husky, Arnie Spanier.
We're in for the guys, Jason Smith and his best
friend Mike Harmon right here on Fox Sports Radio. You
want to get a hold of us, real simple, big
vanilla funny. On Twitter, I'm stinking genius one as we're
broadcasting live from the ti iraq dot com studios. It
(00:50):
is the Bonus Hour VJ. Now that the game's over,
I was looking on Twitter. No real outrage or anything
like that. I think everybody's proud. Both country is proud.
Enjoyed the game most bet NHL game and most bet
hockey game in hockey history, according to DraftKings. I'm curious
to see what the numbers are gonna do. I think
(01:11):
it was a win win situation for hockey all the
way around.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Yeah, I believe so I believe it was a win
win also, but you're not gonna get a lot of
outrageous and you know, it's just you know, I'm a
passionate guy.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
It just sucks.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
I'm an American. I'm from the USA. Like I said, I
served in the United States Army. My mom and my
dad served in the Army. So when I see USA,
that's what I need them to win, bro And they
ain't come through. And you want to be Canada, it
doesn't happen a lot, man like they I think one
gold medal game, Sydney Sidney Kidd had the game winning
winning the game winning gold in overtime. There was another
gold medal game we lost five to two. Uh, you know,
(01:44):
we don't beat them a lot. You know, it would
just been a nice to get this one. But like
I said, if you don't know hockey, just go look
at like the top players in the league and then
just go look at how many have a white and
red flag with a maple leaf on it next to
the name. Does this mean some of the best players
in the world come from Canada?
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Does this mean they're not going to be the fifty
first state. No, I'm just kidding. I don't even answer.
I'm just I'm just kidding, not gonna. I'm not gonna.
I'm not gonna. Don't even touch that one. I want
you to know this though. I filled in for a
whole month up in Toronto. They put me up there.
I did a show for the whole month. Let me
tell you something. It was the summertime. I think it
was June. Two weeks in June, two weeks in July,
(02:25):
and we were talking summertime hockey. Okay, uh, the lines
getting ready for camp. What the maple Leafs were going
to do. It's NonStop hockey out there, just like we're football.
They're all hockey like. It's the summer type. You know
we do we not care about the NFL. No, no,
we we need to talk maple Leafs. That's what that's
(02:45):
going on right now. So it was non stop hockey
even in the summertime out there.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Well, like I said, that's there, that's their jam. Man.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Like here in America it's it's football NonStop. It's there's
no football going on right now. And we're talking Anne Rogers,
Matthew Stafford, those were big trigger names this week. What
are the Stellers gonna do? We have the draft coming up.
Pro Day's are going to be coming up here soon.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Do you know the draft?
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I'm sorry that they jumped in, but the draft gets
about ten million people more than that watching it. What
we what this hockey game gets, That's what the draft gets.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
I want you to know that.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
Yeah, I mean because people are interested all year long.
Because if your team didn't win it, right, what's the
first thing you do? Okay, who you want to get
rid of and who you want right? I've looked at
it a mock drafts right, looked at where the Dolphins
are picking at thirteen?
Speaker 2 (03:29):
All right, cool, who's gonna be there? What do we need?
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Is it gonna be big Kenneth Grant from Michigan, a
defensive star Wars tackle that you could put right there
in the middle and replace, which you lost with Christian
Wilkins that came out of Clemson, that went signed an
eighty million dollars deal and you didn't hear nothing from
him for the Raiders this year at all and missed
a lot of time also to be out hurt. You
got to replace that guy at some point. You got
Zack Zeler in there, you aread gave him this big deal.
But when it'd be nice to put a young rookie
contract of a of a plug nose plug defender right
(03:56):
there in the middle. Or do you go take the
kid out of Georgia? Do you go get rushing out
of Georgia and team him up opposite side? Would you
have in Chop Robinson? Phillips will come back. But I
believe Chop Robinson. I love Chop. Yeah, of course, man, yeah,
I love Choppy. He was a finalist for defensive we
get here. He was a finalist, so like a lot
of people see his game, but he's out of the
Michael Parsons, moll who was his senior?
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Who is vetter?
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Who is this veteran mint or when he was at
Penn State? Was Michael Parsons. So I'm pretty sure you
learned something from the guy.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Well, let start at the top ten.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
If we're gonna go full fledged football, we'll start with
the top, which is usually Kansas City. Even though Philadelphia wanted.
Everybody's waiting on Travis Kelcey. I guess what March fourteenth.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
I believe is the day he.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Has to let him know or before whether he's going
to come back. Some people are reporting that it's fifty
to fifty. I think he's coming back. Should he come back,
Will he come back? How much has he lost? You know,
you saw the video of him just standing there while
Mahomes was scrambling around. People were ripping him. He dropped
a couple of passes. That's gonna happen when you get up.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
There in age.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
What do you think about Travis Kelcey from Travis Kelcey
call it the currid.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
I would have already done it.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
Well, if you look over the last three four years,
as numbers are gone down and catching yards and touchdowns,
so the production is going away.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
So what do you really give up? Well, he was
a Hall of Famer. He couldn't live up to those expectations.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
I mean, but the.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
Bottom drops out fast and pro sports, and the last
person to ever really truly know it is the athlete.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Everybody else can see it.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
The front office can see it, the fans can see it,
the analysts can see it, the TV and radio guys
can see it. Some people want to hold on and
some people just know, Look, man, I mean go out now.
You lost the Super Bowl let's say they don't even
get back next year. They got a lot of questions.
Kansas City's got a lot of questions that they have
to answer. It's not just absolutely not just it's just
not you know, go through the off season and you know,
show back up this summer and we'll be right back
(05:42):
there again. They have to rebuild their tight end room.
They have to rebuild their entire receiving room. Right, look
at their receive.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Defensive line and the running backs out a good situation
at all.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
They ran the ball eleven times in the Super Bowl.
They couldn't move the ball against against a D line
that can stuff you up the middle, they couldn't move
the ball.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
So they have a lot of questions. I said on
another why create one tight end?
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Then if you have a lot of questions, I tight
end is a question so not as much as the
other place doesn't matter as much.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
We didn't say as much.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
I just like a question though, Right, So you bring
Kelsey back older this year he was able to coast
and then kind of turn it on in like December
and then start to get that production. But fifty two yards,
so I think that's where he was at this year.
Fifty two yards a game. That's that's not gonna get
it done.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
This is gonna be anything.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
And I'm just asking, could this be a Tom Brady
situation with Giselle where or he says I'll come back
less because my future possible wife is Taylor.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Swift and she's kind of got a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
I hear.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, what I know.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
First of all, I don't think they're I don't like
celebrity gossip news, but dude, I don't I can't stand
celebrity gossis.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
This is a little different, by the way, no celebrity
gossip news.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Taylor Swift has brought in a billion dollars to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
I don't know that they'll say anything, but I don't listen.
I don't know what they're going to do if they
get married or don't get married, Like I don't want.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
I meant for money for financials about coming back to
this year that came.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
Him and his brother gonna make a ton off of
the field anyway, Yeah, yeah, they did the podcast.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Man, they just got they just got bank for that thing, man,
So and.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
They could do both. So come back for a cheaper
rate and still do the podcast.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
Exactly so he he can definitely make enough money off
the field. Travis comes in and the strike means guy
has been blowing his money on platinum diamond chains.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
And boot gotty cars, right. You know.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
So Taylor Swift came into his place and he had
like a half court basketball court in his living room
and like nothing really up right and not much further
exactly right.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
You know, that's just how some guy. Hey man, listen,
that's how some guys live.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Man.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
I don't need a bunch of I don't need a
lamp that I never turned on.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
If I got a lamp, damn it, that's better. Come
on every day.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
You got the picture with the five dogs playing poker.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Nah no, no, no, no, not at all. You kidding me, bro, No,
I love that people.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Well I can see it in your home, and I'm
pretty sure you gotta plaig cout somewhere and that and
that help yours out in Vermont.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
But yeah, exactly, nah I do.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
If I'm if I'm Kelsey, I call it a rap
a great career Hall of Famer, super Bowl champion. I mean,
you know he's gonna be up there and discussed with
some of the greatest tight ends of all time. I
don't think anything he does forward takes away from that
or even adds to it other than another ring. Now,
if you really think you have a legitimate shot to
get another ring, all right, cool, go do you?
Speaker 2 (08:25):
But you know AMC is tough man. You know you
you think Cincinnati can get it together?
Speaker 5 (08:29):
Right?
Speaker 4 (08:29):
You have the charge of Jimmy Burgers has totally come
out here and turn that thing around. What's gonna happen
with the Dolphins and Oos? That defense finished fourth in
the league this year, so wasn't the defense. But you
don't have Oos for six or seven games you saw,
you have no shot. If you don't have him on
the field, you don't have Dan Marino said it on
radio road doing the.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Super Bowl week.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
When we don't have when we don't have two out there,
we don't got a shot like he And I'm sorry,
I'm sorry he's knocking on the backup quarterbacks. But they
cut one of those guys because that's how bad he was.
So the AFC, AFC tough. What are the Houston Texas
gonna look like next year?
Speaker 2 (09:00):
CG.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Strout will kind of move in there, maging look with
Sempagne and bolt Knicks have done with Denver, you you
would you would hope. You think if they add two
wins to that, that's eleven and now right, instead of
the nine that they had this year.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
So I think it's gonna be tough next year. And
if you Kelsey, why go out and the worse thing
you did? Why why? Erroldonald it right?
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Aaron Donald was was was in the interview and said
he had had his not mine made up that Super
Bowl year against Cincinnati was gonna be his last year.
He said he went into camp saying this is gonna
be but he didn't tell anybody but to him and
his wife and his head, this is my last year.
You win the ring, you right up to the sunset,
You show up at Laker Games course out with the
big Diamond channel, You go on all the talk shows
(09:38):
at night, and then you go away for a while
and then no one cares, No one talks about you.
Knowing these guys, it's it's like sadistic with some of
these men. They gotta they gotta be part of something, right,
you know, Like Jordan, Jordan's got to be competitive.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
It's something he owns a car.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
Racing team and a motorcycle uh and a motorsport racing
team for motorcycles. If you gotta keep going, but you
don't want to be Aaron Donald come back and you
have that bad Super Bowl hangover year, and then you
get a little better the following year and it's like, Okay,
I'll go retire.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Now.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
I think I agree with you where Kelsey probably should retire.
But I don't think he's going to retire. I think
he's going to come back for another year. When does
he have to let him know?
Speaker 2 (10:18):
By March fourteenth?
Speaker 4 (10:20):
He's got plenty of time still, like they, of course,
he's got plenty of time to wait.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
My thing is you're coming back for what a ring? Right?
That could be the only thing. But do you have
a legitimate shot you're the second favorite, if not the favorite.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
I don't care about that preseason favorite stuff. Remember year ago? Yeah,
But to show you and I did when we first
started doing filing radio show together, was the year Buffalo
was coming off of that divisional loss where they didn't
get the ball in overtime. And the following year josh
Aalloen was favorite doing MVP. Buffalo Bill's a favorite win
the Super Bowl and we're both like, how you didn't
get to the conference championship game and the team that
(10:55):
you lost to they won the Super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (10:57):
So what do you tell? How are you the.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
Favorite to get there this year? I think the favorite
to win it next year should be the team that
just won it. Tell me what they're losing, Tell me
what player they're gonna be missing and losing.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
So that's how I kind of view.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
You know, as far as well the numbers of who's
gonna be favorite, Like you, we don't know, but we
don't know where some of these players end up, or
some of these quarterbacks end up.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Where does Miles Garrett get traded to?
Speaker 5 (11:20):
Right?
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Like there's some big name Michael Parsons. I said a
year ago, if you take care of CD first before Micah,
you're making the same mistake when you took care of
Zeke before you took care of Dak, and Dak cost
you war. You took care of Zach Martin he retired,
and now you're dealing with this with Michael Parsons. Where
can Michael end up? Like that can really shift that
so called favorite. If you think then Kelsey should retire, yeah,
(11:44):
then you probably think the same thing about Aaron Rodgers
or know, are you indifferent about that?
Speaker 2 (11:48):
He should retire? He should call it retire. Listen.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
He doesn't want to go out like the way he
did against the judge.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Stoo well, our listened.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Tom Furman was on a great Tom Ferman, our analyst
for bat Over CB.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
That's the board.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Yeah, yeah, I get, I get exactly why you know
why Rogers would want to still play.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
But where you going? Brother? He todd throughout Tennessee and
the number one overall pick.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
But he is a quarterback quarterback, so take as much
of a beating as like a tight end.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Okay, but that's not my okay, So once again, what
are you playing for? See? That's where I go with it.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
You are fine, fine, you want to come back and
play bet why though Tennessee's not winning a damn thing
with you and you have way more talent with the
bum ass jetson. We saw what happened with them, like
he would have to this whole ram thing. I think
it's smoking mirrors. It sounds great, but you really want
to bring that into your locker room? You're talking about
(12:46):
I heard someone talk about matt Matthew Stafford and you know.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
I would retire if I've met that.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
To bring him up, I've said this about Matthew Stafford.
I would call the career retire for a couple of reasons.
First of all, you have your Super Bowl. You live
out in the Lost Angeles. You probably don't want to
leave from there. Also, your wife went through a serious
medical condition. They operated on her brain. She's lucky to
be alive. Thank your lucky stars, thank God that you're
(13:13):
healthy for the most part, that she's healthy again. You're
at the end of the career. Go enjoy your life.
You've been through so much. I can only imagine the
worrying and the stuff that went on while his wife
went through this medical condition. It was absolutely terrifying. I
got to tell you, it was absolutely terrifying. I would
call it a career and enjoy the rest of my life.
(13:36):
That's what I would do.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Yeah, I'm with you. You got the ring.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
He's going to finish the top ten in passing the yards,
top ten and touchdowns and completions. If I'm not mistaken,
I think he's a Hall of Fame riot. It's funny
to me how people say he's not. I mean, yeah,
he had all his years in Detroit. But all he
did was show up and play eighth straight years. He
was a sixteen sixteen guy, sixteen games, sixteen starts, So
best ability is availability.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
He was that.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
I'm trying to figure out how there's some people that
doesn't think this guy's it's a Hall of Famer. I
think we pay for play for a certain franchise and
certain sports. We add that to it, right, We kind
of like the Royals are horrible, but the only great
thing you ever really remember about them is George Brett. Right,
But but overall their history is they're just not good.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
The history of the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Even this year they're rolling, they're legitimate, a legitimate Super
Bowl contender, and then the injury bug shows up, like
with a Doe baby on the defensive side of the ball.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
It takes all those guys off the field.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
And it's like, you can't you Yeah, you're giving up
forty points, forty four points, fifty points.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
You just can't. But you don't have when you're signing guys.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Look, if you're signing with the team in December off
the street to play bru if you were that good,
you'd have been on somebody's team. You'd have been on
somebody's team. You can't win football games when you're signing
guys off the street to play defense.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
All right. A couple of things on Twitter if you
want to get in big Vanilla funny, I'm stinking genius.
One Owen likes Us said this good stuff. Genius and
Vanilla is a good pair. Good radio and Monsey Radio
gold Viva the stinking genius. We do appreciate that, oh
and thank you very much, also saying well, I don't
(15:13):
want to read the Trump ones. We'll stay out of
the politics. And Emmett the blind Seahawks fan saying he's
not joking, but he wouldn't be surprised if Jeff Travis
came back to try to win another ring just so
he could propose to Taylor Swift on the field so
he couldn't do what they lost.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
So Phil in it on that one too, because that
was the thing. If they win, is he gonna propose?
You're talking about getting married and stuff, But that would
just be corny, man, because what do you wait in
a year for if I'm if I'm Taylor.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Because they lost, so yeah, they you don't have to.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
You could if you really want to propose. You can
go ahead and propose. You don't have to wait to
try to win the Super Bowl. Like I said, it's
gonna be tough for him to get back, it's gonna
be today.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Have some questions roster wise, Arnie that they have.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
So it's tougher for Philadelphia Kansas City to gain city
and AMC is tougher.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
It's the Quarterback Conference. You got to have a QB
to get there, man, you gotta have a QB to
get there. Look, if you look at the NFC, right
Christian McCaffrey starts on the scrap he hurd the nine
A seasons done right there. There are seasons done right there.
Now you don't say it in August and September, but
the first three or four weeks, man, it's like, man,
you're missing their best player. That turned into supposed to
(16:24):
be four to six turned into what the first seven
weeks he was out.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
They got some changes they got to make exact Well,
do you got it?
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Because when you my.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
Debos, samuels like, are you I don't know what's because
I had a debo when.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
I called to on our show on Saturday, I said
two months ago, if I'm the Niners. I start to
have some quiet, private conversations about what to do with Debo,
and then the report comes out that he's been granted
him and his agent.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
To look for a trade. But that's not good.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
But you have oh yeah, they've been granting to trade
like two weeks ago. But here's the thing. In my book,
you have a four year window if you don't have
the great quarterback of the league, the best quarter back
in the league, and the best coach in the league.
But if you can have a really, really good year,
a really good team, right, so you got a four
year window.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Look at two of the teams that played in.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Super Bowls in the last like four to six years,
the sam Super forty nine Ers in the Rams. They
both went to two. Rams lost won one one forty
nine Ers lost both of them. But remember how they
remember the Rams were bringing everybody in like everybody named Mama,
And they bring in Jalen Ramsey, They brought in Brandon Cooks.
You had Todd Gurley, you had Matthew Stafford. I mean,
I'm sorry, you drive, you drive Jared Goff. They pushed
(17:30):
all their chips in man and got to and got
to the game. But couldn't get it done. They come
around again within that same four years, they pushed all
their chips in again and they got there and then
won it. You know, sooner or later, all these contracts
you paid are going to backfire or you're gonna have
to trade some people away. How do you think Jaalen
Ramsey ends up in Miami right because of the.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Deal that they gave them.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Sam Francisco did the same thing, paid Christian paid, Samuel paid, paid,
Trent Williams, right paid their guys. And then you got
lucky with Brock as mister irrelevant and he gets you
to one. But even before, even before then, you had
Jimmy Garoppolo. Shanahan has got his team there twice in
that four year window. And now that that four years
(18:10):
has passed, those contracts start to kind of kick in.
Man in Kansas City, if they don't do some serious
work this offseason, they're gonna run in that too, because
they paid Mahomes pay, Chris Jones, paid McDuffie like, they
showed off some money over there also too. As sooner
or later, those contracts catch up to you. So you
got about a four year window if you don't have
the best quarterback in the league, in the best coach
in the league. So that's why I think a team
(18:30):
like San Francisco and a team like the Rams are
kind of gonna be out of it.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
What's Dallas's gonna look like next year? Washington? I thought
they'd be good, Nobody thought they'd be twelve wins good?
They can they duplicate that next year?
Speaker 4 (18:41):
What happens with the Lions, what happens with the Vikens
in their quarterback situation? Is JJ gonna be ready or
does a move like the Todd Furman said, where you
know Matthew Stafford could be heading up there for a
year to go with Kevin o'connore that he won the
Super Bowl with his offensive coordinator here in Los Angeles.
So there's a lot of things in the NFC that
a flux. But you know what you know, it's concrete
and Nancy Borrow CJ Herbert right, those quarterbacks are there.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
I want to get to some Cincinnati stuff. Also what
Burrow had to say. By the way, we're broadcasting live
from the tirek dot Com studios. Tyreck dot Com will

Speaker 4 (19:33):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith

Speaker 3 (19:43):
All Right, good evening, everybody, bj Husky, Arnie Span your
live at the Fox Sports Radio studios. In for the
Guide site Jason Smith and Mike Harmon. As I was
talking to Shay At my producer at the break who
probably left my mic on anyway, who.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Says he didn't what is up with it? Wasn't me?
Speaker 3 (20:00):
But you gotta have a fall. Guys that stick a
genius hot Mike, don't curse on the air. You're talking
over the curs.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Why did you turn your Mike call far.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Well, I had to talk to the guys though I
didn't know it was live on the.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Air, and we got twenty three.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
We got thirty three the week we're about to face
this last thirty three though.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Well, I would ask you, did you see uh, the
automatic robots in baseball, the the ABS system.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
It was absolutely cool as hell it was in baseball.
Well not really your robot.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
It's done on the Jumbo trom and they just call
it robots, you know, calling it, but they do it
on the Jumbo tromp. It takes less than fifteen seconds,
maybe ten to twelve seconds. It is right on shay,
how many chances? How many challenges do you get on
the pitches like that?
Speaker 5 (20:56):
So yeah, the ABS is being tested in thirteen different ballparks.
So teams are admitted just two challenges. It's only by
the pitcher, catcher or the hitter, and the challenge must
be made immediately without any assistant from the dugout or
any coaches or player on the field. So no one
other than the hitter, the catcher, or the pitcher can
make this challenge, and they can get no help from
anyone from coaches, third base coach, players on the field,
(21:18):
no one else. And if you challenge and you are wrong,
you use.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
The challenge right right right? I like it.
Speaker 5 (21:24):
I think one more thing. And if you challenge and
then you're right. You retain the challenge. So you could
you keep those two challenges, Lee, You can challenge the
call ball or strike.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
So we're challenging balls and strike. No, yes, yes, you
like it, don't like? Well it's really supposed to be.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Like if it's zero and two and it's a bad pitch,
the umpire calls it strike three, maybe the bases are loaded.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
It's a critical situation that shouldn't matter. Man, take it's
human element. It's human element. It's not gonna be perfect.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
But don't you want it right instead of wrong?
Speaker 3 (21:55):
You know?
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Yeah? Right?
Speaker 4 (21:57):
According to what though, Like some umpires have a big
strike zone, he's got a small strike zone.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
This IMBI calls it this way.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
If that was the case, then make him do it
all the same, right, Like we know certain umpires called
strikes and balls a different way, so find them. Like, no,
that was wrong. You get fine because we can't have you.
You can't show what your own strike zone. The strike
zone to be from a hitter's mid chest to his knees,
that's the strike zone. That's what I heard in in
(22:25):
Little league and fall back when I was playing for
the Del Citi Cardinals in nineteen eighty six.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
But you're not seeing curveballs, you know, in literal league,
like you're the big Weeks. It's tough to call, you know,
it's tough to call these one hundred mile an hour pitches.
Once in a while, you blank and the ball goes
right by you.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Even if it's an umpire. You can't get everyone right.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
No, you don't wait everyone right though, right, I'm not.
I'm just I'm just opposite of already. I'm not for
a robot. If that's the case, then damn it. Used
the robots for the whole damn season and game to
take the umpires out. But good luck having all those
guys lose their Are you for replay?
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Are you for replay in the NFL and the NBA.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
Not the NBA, because always the NBA is always that
one takes too long, and it's always swiping down for
a ball and maybe your former risk clips of guys nose.
We're replaying to see if there is a you know,
calls for a flag or two or a hostile hostile
act that's a hostile act towards the head, Like come on, bro,
(23:25):
he was swiping down. We all can see he was
swiping down at the ball. It's a it's a fast
moving game. Scrape them on his noggin, scraped them on
his snauzer.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
He good? Is he bleeding? You good? But I don't
like it.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Sometimes they don't call the foul then, but the ball
may go off them, but you just say it goes
the other way. Now you're really kind of in trouble.
If you don't call the foul, it may go off them,
and now they don't get the ball that you know.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
That's the part I don't like.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
The penalty I would like to see reviewed. Mostly in
the NFL is passing affairance. Passing affairance should be a
penalty that you can You could question the u CAL review.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
If they used to do and for instance, they took
it away.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
They need to bring that back, right, They need to
bring that back because game games are won and loss
on that call. Games are won and loss on a
call by a tackle, a holding call on a guard.
Games are won and lost by dB reaching out and
slightly grabbing a jersey for you know, a second second
and a half. I get it, but you've told these
guys they can't use their hand. You're asking defensive backs
(24:24):
to cover receivers without being able to touch them.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
He knows where he's going. You don't. Is it too
subjective though?
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Is it too subjective to go ahead and be able
to overlook that or to look it back on replay.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
It's like a holding call, you know.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
It is object No. Holding is normally no. I rarely
see a holding call and I'm like, oh man, that's
not normally. A lineman's got his hands outside or pulling
a guy down, or you see the jersey. Defensive end
goes to spin right and you see the jersey, or
you see the arms fly up because they're trying to
spin around and he can't because the guy's got a
hold on another one.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
I would love to see.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
Challenge too is also from the pass and personal following quarterbacks.
Oh because Pat Mahone's got a call in a game
where the two Texans players crash into each other.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
He didn't even get hit. He didn't even get hit.
I think I know what.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
Josh Allen is six foot thirty and in two hundred
and ninety five pounds and runs over linebackers but sliding
down and gets nick He flops and falls backwards like that.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Stuff's got to get picked up in the game.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Yeah, yeah, I think mostly they do a good job.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
There are some reps though, that are horrible. I mean,
with all the.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
Reps that we have on the field, you think they
get it right a little bit more. But most of
them I think through a pretty decent job. But I'm
I'm for the the ABS system.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
It's real quick. They put it on the jumbo tron.
Everybody can see it.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
It's tennis.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
Yeah, that's exactly what it's like. There you go, good call,
good call. That's exactly what it's like. And you could
tell was it a centimeter too full?
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Exactly was it in the box? It really is good.
I don't do like it. All right.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
We got a couple of more things we got to
get to. I still want to talk about more free
agents in the NFL. All that's coming up first, though.
A final look tonight with Monzi to see what's spreading.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
She's still here, I thought she hous by. Now what's
going on, Manz? What do you mean I can't just leave? Well,
I'm railling to shift. I didn't know you hear this.
Oh I'm here.
Speaker 6 (26:21):
I'm here till the end of time, and I'll be
back in twelve hours. Actually, so that's great. Let's start
in the NBA, guys, we had lots of games to
chat about, like the Nuggets, who have won nine in
a row. They beat the Hornets when twenty nine to
one fifteen. Nicola Yoga's just shive a triple double twenty
nine points, seventeen rebounds, nine assists. My Clippers lost very
(26:43):
annoying to the Bucks one sixteen to one ten. All
of the Bucks starters ended in.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Double digits in this one.
Speaker 6 (26:49):
The Knicks without heart, without Onunobi, they still beat the
Bulls one thirteen to one fifteen.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Bulls have lost five in a row.
Speaker 6 (26:57):
Carl Anthony Towns had thirty two points.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
And eighteen rebounds in the win.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
The Cavaliers the first team to reach forty five wins.
They came back to beat the Nets one ten to
ninety seven. Jared Allen sixteen points and twenty rebounds. Lebron
James had twenty points and eight rebounds as well, as
the Lakers held on to beat the Trailblazers one ten
to one oh two. The Celtics crushed the seventy six
ers one twenty four to one oh four behind a
(27:21):
triple double from Jason Tatum. How many triple doubles does
Jason Tatum have in his career?
Speaker 2 (27:26):
If you had a guess, I got the number.
Speaker 6 (27:29):
Oh, you already knew. I just was very surprised about
the number. Yeah it's fourth, Yeah, it's yeah, I know.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
I like I had to do a double take.
Speaker 6 (27:37):
I was like, really, only four triple doubles for Jason
Tatum that he got it today in the Celtics blow right,
I was very surprised. The Pacers outscored the Grizzlies won
twenty seven to one thirteen. The Magic and the Hawks
went back and forth, or the Lando came out on
top one fourteen to one oh eight. Paallo band Carol
thirty six points and eleven rebounds, and the Spurs outscored
(27:58):
the Suns one twenty one nine. Spurs announcing that victor win.
Bonyama is gonna be shut down the rest of the
season because of a blood clot in his shoulder. But
Chris Paul in today's win had thirteen points, ten assists,
and two steals, so he is now second all time
on the NBA steals list, behind John Stockton. I don't
think he will catch John Stockton, but he did surpass
(28:20):
the Jason Candada this one. So Chris Paul out there
still doing things.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
You know we talked about Lebron.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
Chris Paul doesn't get the credit at all for also
twenty years in the.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
League, you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Not only that top five is stills top five, itsists
all time.
Speaker 6 (28:34):
Yeah, and he's still being positive, like a positive effect
on the Spurs. Does not get enough credit. And lastly,
here Connor McDavid wins it for USA at the Four
Nations Face Off Championship. He scores I know, sorry for Canada. Yeah,
they edge USA three to two in overtime of the
Four Nations Face Off Championship. McDavid with the game winner.
(28:55):
Jordan Bennington had thirty three saves in the win for
Canada as well.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Guys, it's been five always real quick, you guys.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
You see you say you were surprised about Tatum, but
he doesn't really as far as the triple doubles, it
didn't strike you right as as a triple double guy.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
No, but four seems low. I don't disagree with you.
I don't.
Speaker 6 (29:14):
He's he's very he's.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
A bucket gat he's not he's not a dishing the
ball that jar Brown's job.
Speaker 6 (29:20):
Absolutely, but still he's been around long enough or you
would think you'd have one a year, you know what
I'm saying, Like when I was like four four, I
have four and I'm just kidding in his career.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Like one a year is I was just shocked and
how low it was.
Speaker 6 (29:36):
You're not wrong, You're not wrong, but really, you know
what I mean, like one a year Paul to.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
The reason why he doesn't get the credit Chris Paul.
Remember he went through about an eight or nine year
stretch where he's kind of unlikable.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
I mean, I still think that's why people. Oh yeah,
and that's why he didn't get Yeah yeah, KD.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
And then like you know he he has that.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
There was a spinning incident with uh with a right
rage ron oh yeah.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
And then he's been a couple of times like where
he shoves you when he shouldn't where.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
It's well he's doing that back in high school.
Speaker 6 (30:06):
But you know what I'm saying, Like, for absolutely, he
has some sort of I don't like this guy he.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
Brings you can't swing there on the man, right, and
that's and that's unwritten guy co that's just something you
just don't. That's like we're fighting now, dog. You can't
swing down there. And Chris Paul has done.
Speaker 6 (30:22):
It, has done it, He's done several Absolutely, he's kind
of unlikable. Yeah, yeah, you're probably right as to but
you know, Lebron James is unlikable.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Yeah, very very very different ways, very different.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
You're not right, Thank you have a good time, have
a good, safe drive home. Let me ask you this,
since we were getting to some NBA Jannis his name
is being floated out there. They said he wants to
stay in Milwaukee, but if they're not going to put
more talent around them, you might.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
As well leave.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
I know the Knicks have a lot to give up
to go ahead and get somebody like that the Wayakers
would love to have them. I don't think they have
enough talent to give up because you start with Lebron, Luca,
and Giannis.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Could you imagine having those three.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
And then Giannis and Lucauld be in the face of
the Lakers from there in that.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
League would have to stop that. We can't do this, guy,
We can't do that. You can't because your people are
complaining about the product. We're already complaining about how bad.
The product is you're gonna double down on that and
start to stack like purposely allow teams to just overly stack.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Well, who would go after Giannis?
Speaker 3 (31:31):
The Knicks would be one, but the Knicks would have
to kind of shake it up, and they're playing really
good basketball right now, they'd have to give up.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
Man, if you're Milwaukee, figure out what to figure it out,
figure out what's going on and figure it out.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
You just want a championship three four years ago. Figure
it out.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
Everybody wants to quit, man, Like, I can't stand that
just in life. Give me thirty seconds to rant here. Man,
I'm so tired of quitters. We are taught in the
world today that if things don't work out, you don't
have to get better. You don't have to work with yourself,
you don't have to look into mirror, you don't have
to be accountable. You could just really go along and
blame other people and blame everybody else, and when it
(32:07):
all chips go down, piss and moan and quit and
and want to get on the just the grass ain't
always greener. What are your own grass? You already got grass,
The grass is not almost green? What have one of
these big superstar Moves worked out in the NBA in
the last five This.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Is New Years But is it fair for me to
bring up Look, it's easier to get a free agent
to Miami because there's no taxes in Florida.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Part probably can't land one.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
But nobody wants to live in Milwaukee. No offense to
the people up in Milwaukee, but it's.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
You don't have to live there. You're just playing there.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
Well for eight months though, listen, you're traveling, you're playing
put and go for yourself in your game, right, and
go for yourself and your game. But I mean, you're
not Yannis, so you're not the mid Gianni's is there there, right?
So he's probably got a big house or a big
man just I mean, but my nephew, Kendo Marshall played
in Milwaukee, had to have an apartment downtown and he's
spent most of.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
His time at the facility.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Because you're a professional at this point, this idea that well,
no one wants to live there.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Who said you gotta live there? Right right? Nod I
said you gotta live there. You played there, you ain't
gotta live there.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Remember, Kareem Luile Sinder left Milwaukee a big trade.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
And what happened there.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
I didn't want to live up in Milwaukee and I
and I get it, man, but it just that can't
be your reason for leaving. It's because I don't want
to live here. Like that's that. That's what makes the
product bad. That's why the product's bad.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
And what are we doing.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
We're just gonna stack the high market teams like no, no,
that's that's even like the Knick.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
Well, the Knicks haven't won in a long long yeah,
but they.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
Didn't stack that team though, man, they they You go out,
you sign a guy like Brunts in a free agency,
you make a trade for a guy who people rode off.
Let's not act like Kat call Anthony Towns as a
guy that everybody was claiming after there were people that
wrote call Anthony Towns off a year ago, and look
what he's doing there. But he's in a better coacher.
Tim Tis is a bomb coach. He had him in
(33:56):
Minnesota before, so he knows him. So when Cat shows up,
there's nothing really knew as far as coulture and schematics
to get the like, oh, by the way, Kat, we're
gonna run two down, you know?
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Oh yeah, oh oh he's doing it.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
Oh yeah, I got a coach like, you don't have
to teach him anything. It's a good, smooth transition, right,
even though the front office may not be what it
is there, it's the bright lights of Madison Square Garden
over on Madison I have. I mean, it's it's fitting,
it's working there. But Minnesota gave up on him, right,
Oh well, we got Anthony answer. Just too many times
in sports we give up, especially in the NBA, like
(34:29):
they're giving up on young players.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
Jimmy Butler does it well.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Kevin Durant didn't want to go midway through the season
the Golden State exactly.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
Well, he didn't want to go back to Golden State
because I think that's a bunch of pride, because you're
gonna write because with Phoenix you've done absolutely nothing. I
always say, the biggest misstep of any free agent, in
my opinion, in the history of the NBA is Kevin
Durant thinking he could have left Golden State and still
win championships. I don't think I can name another one.
Maybe Horace Grant leaving the Bulls the Lakers. Maybe yeah,
(34:57):
but he's but he's not though, right, right, But he's not.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
That's the point. He's not.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
He left and and and thought that, Oh I got
my team.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
They said it in the interview himself.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
Lebron got his accolades for going to a super team
and win the championships. I went, enjoyed, go to date.
I went two rings, but I didn't get to say
so you went there for the wrong reason to begin with, right,
You didn't really go there to really win and be
historic and be an icon and be remembered and be
a legend.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
You went because you wanted to love that.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
You see other people get for going and doing what
they do in this era, and that's built Super Team.
Nobody wants to learn on their own. No one wants
to go through the hard times on their own. Everybody
wants to just have an easy way to a championship
as possible. Through the years of Jordan getting beat all
those times, through the years of Kobe and Shot getting swept,
Kobe shooting the air ball, Shaq putting his arm around
(35:47):
him and saying the same people that's laughing at you,
gonna be kissing you. You know what in the in
the future, don't worry about it. And Kobe said himself,
I needed that. I needed to miss them shots. I
needed that. But nowadays guys don't want to go through that.
I want to go stack teams. And what's show me
the stack team win the championships?
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Right right? What's that used to be winning the championships? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (36:07):
Yeah, no, it used to be that you needed three.
I don't even know if you need the Big three anymore.
Matter of fact, we're gonna come back, We're gonna wrap
things up. Show just flew on by VJ Husky Arnie
Spaniard right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Do we not have any play by play of Mike
huts to give me your play by Brad? He beats
and Or like a redded mule, and he beats you
like a Reddit mule.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
You're Mary Younger beats Luongo like.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
A redded mule.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
The great Mike Wang VJ passing away get Grandma.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yeah. I like the way he goes ah scratch my
back with a hacksaw. Yeah. Surely one of the.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Great play by play guys of our time. He sorely
will be missed. A really great guy that that brought
the action through the radio and and through everything.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Just a lot of fun, you know, Yeah, he was man.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
A lot of a lot of play by play guys
we lost over the recent years, and yeah, you know
Vince Scully and of course Chick hern here in La
back you know, some years ago. But even some good
broadcasters man Greg Gumble this year. Yes, yeah, man, that
was a tough one.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
Let me ask you this a couple of things that
we can get to now that there's no NFL.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
What are you watching?
Speaker 3 (37:30):
And one of the things I want to know is,
and I don't know if you're big on something like this,
I am. I would pay one hundred dollars to see
this on pay per view and that's my home senior
versus John Rocker, Are you with something like no?
Speaker 2 (37:43):
Come on?
Speaker 3 (37:44):
Look, I like Jerry Springer, give me a little bit
of this, you know, come on?
Speaker 4 (37:48):
John Rocker has always been a piece of I know,
I know, and so I got nothing when I watched
that video. I'm like, and he's so howked up on
Royd's because he knows, he knows he's a jerk. So
anybody gonna try to say something to him. You know,
he thinks he's bigger now he could just you know, man,
you know anybody, but he's John Rocker has always been
a jerk.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
Man.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
I got no interest, whether it's fake, I got no
interest in these two people fighting. Yeah, weight class is
way outside of each other. Like, he's way bigger, you know,
pick on, pick on somebody your own size. Man, if
you want to fight, here, here's a listen. Everybody, stop
trying to be Jake Paul. You want to fight, go fight,
you want to fight, go really fight somebody, like really I.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Had started, you know, we love he started.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
To Go fight a real fighter, though. Man, if you're
so bad, big and bad you want to Jake Paul
would destroy him.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
I got I got no interest in Mahomes and Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
I'm a Jerry Springer fan, so I think that's that's right.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
They just watched that documentary on Netflix do on Jerry
Springing at four parts of it.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
I didn't even know why didn't even know that? Go
check that out.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
