I got another few good years left. Do you think

fourth quarter for the Lakers. He now knows, Hey, this
this finals window was now open for me. I can
win again. I can now have the end of my
career be great. I can maybe win two and go
out and I win two more. And now suddenly the
question is about me versus Michael. Do I get better

credit just because I shouldn't be penalized because I went
to more finals than Mike Lunch because I didn't win him.
But suddenly, like that's what he sees. He sees that
this finals thing is now wide open for me, And
you know, you obviously we see Luca the player he is,
but now he's getting even more attention.

Because he's with the Lakers, even though he was with
the Mavericks.

But this pass he made to Austin Reeves tonight where
Reeves hits a three, where Luca starts driving the lane
and Reeves comes bounces out of the lane obviously to
make more room and to get behind the three point line,
like Luca doesn't see him where he ends up. Like
when Lucas starts making this drive, Reeves is in the lane,

and in the beginning of this drive, then Lucas sees
Austin Reeves bounce back out, so he knows he's going
behind the three point line, and all three'ves gets behind
the three point line and stops and Luca's pass is
to that spot and it's an easy It's not like, hey,
it's a great pass and he had to corral it
and go up and shoot. This is a pass that
is right to him and he's able to catch it,

stay set and shoot. There's no moving, there's no I
gotta dribble, I gotta find myself. I gotta set myself.
It's I got it and I'm in my shooting stance
and it's an easy three. Like you see a play
like that and you go, oh, my goodness, is this
is this title window open for the Lakers? Because you know,
we talk about Reeves and Hatchamura are the guys that
are gonna suddenly go, hey, we're scoring twenty some out

of game now because we're wide open.

Because what are you gonna do?
Speaker 1 (04:54):
When Lebron can take over and and and Luca can
do this, We're gonna do it. So you see, everything
is it's it's sunshine, lollipops and rainbows for the Lakers
right now. They're excited. They're almost fifteen games over five hundred.
Lebron's got the spring in his step. Luca is happy,
with the revenge game tonight. The support guys are all
making no, We're gonna be wide open to make big
shots and we can make even more money over the course.

Like it is all coming up Lakers right now after
this game tonight.

All of that to say, you look at the Western
Conference as a whole, right, they have that big, emphatic
win over Denver and it's still one of those.

What has been this demon for them that the Nuggets
over the last couple of years or is that all right?
We'll see you in a series and it plays out differently, Right,
Denver getting healthy, getting right, et cetera. That you get
towards a series difference. But otherwise, you look around the
Western Conference, there're any team that really scares you in

the playoff picture?

No, right, Oklahoma City is good. They never lose.

No, we watched Anthony Edwards day. Okay, take them down,
lose one game every three weeks. It happens. I think
it's a It happened on our watch. And the Wolves
are the best.

Okay, you gotta listen to the whole show. And you
got another history here. Anyway, the point being that, yeah,
there's some young legs and they can get after it.
But again, it owes to a series. If you give
me Luca and Lebron and the support cast and they're healthy. Right,
Obviously that's the big thing for Lebron because they got
a gauntlet coming up.

This is where it gets interesting. We talked about their schedule.
Does get a shot the schedule.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
For the second half of the season is tied for
the hardest in the NBA. They start that Moeries with
the Clippers. Fry right, it's a home and home, Yeah,
home and home again. Yeah, just change out the colors
of the court and whatever else. But it's just the
idea that you have this this sixth or seven game stretch,
which is just evil in terms of scheduling making, but

over the the entirety of what constitute the second half
of the season, that they do have the hardest schedule remaining.
All that to be said, if the two of them
are healthy, and Reeves is hitting shots, and Hatchama is
hitting shots, and Jackson Hayes is filling the lane like
he did tonight. Again a front line for Dallas is
not what they expect to be. But you play what

the schedule brings you. This iteration of this team, I'm
not afraid of any other team if I'm JJ Reddick
and the Lakers in the Western Conference in a series.

No, you have gone from how do we figure this out?
To all like and we said, this is what when
the trade happened with Luca to the Lakers, what do
we say this is gonna have the effect that when
the Lakers got Pau Gasol from the grid right away,
the one like nine out of ten, and suddenly was wow,
look at this. And all of a sudden they were

in the finals the next three years, right, and they
won too. Now it was a little bit different because
Luca was hurt. He had to wait. Then they had
the All Star break, so it wasn't quite he's But
now they've won three in a row. Luca's been terrific
the last couple of games. And I'm telling you everything
is coming up Lakers right now. Man, this is They're
a scary team for all to talk about. Might not
be an NBA finals year, frond, why not?

Like there's other good teams, don't get me wrong, but
this is a team that you're not used to them.
You haven't seen this iteration of the Lakers. You're gonna
get them for about twenty games and then suddenly it's
the playoffs and you don't know how this's you know, hey,
this is what this is their tendencies, this is what
they like to do.

If Luca continues to be this guy and he picks
he picks things up a little bit quicker, look out, man,
I don't know who the Lakers are going to be
underdogs too. I don't know who they're gonna wind up
being in a series against where you say they can't win. Like, really,
at this point, I'm saying, I'm ready for the Lakers

Thunder Western Conference Final, right like, I'm like, that's that's
the series. I'm ready because when I give the Lakers
advantage over the Nuggets after that last game they played
last weekend, one hundred percent, right like, I'm already saying
I'm ready, I'm well, I'm ready for the I'm ready
for the Knicks and the and the Cavaliers Eastern Conference Finals.
But I'm also ready for the Lakers and the Thunder
in the West.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
But to the point about the Thunder, right, I'm certainly
not dismissing him. Nobody outside of their actual broadcasters talks
more chet Lou Dort and Shay Gildess Alexander.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
Than I do.

I don't think their broadcasters even talk about loud, Dort,
Jet and SGA. Sure, but but lu legit legit man,
like like I think man, I think he's on the
metal stand for Defensive Player of the Year. Did you
find that you're related to lou Dort, Did you do
like a twenty three in me and find out?

I are related? Like, like, why did you know I

On some of those times, I thought, you're not supposed
to do that, Like I thought, like, hey, what we

I can exploit it, isn't that the part of I
guess that part of twenty three and me too, I
guess is it.

Isn't there a whole series of finding your roots? Did
they exploit the hell out of that?

All of that to say for the Lakers, you're you're
looking at a squad. They can get after it. And
defensive metrics, we could try to figure out what the
noise is Right tonight they missed a lot of shots.
But you know what, when an offense is humming as
the Lakers were, that puts a lot of pressure. We
do it with the NFL as we talk about the
league week to week here on the show. When you've
got an offense that's going to pressure you, like say
(12:04):
you're playing Detroit, well, your decision making on some of
those third down or to go for it on fourth
down are gonna be different against Detroit than they are
against other teams. Likewise, against the Lakers, you're maybe making
some shots selection and maybe you're gripping a little tighter
than you would be against some other squads because you
know each of those shots matters to a different degree. Right,
(12:26):
You're not running them out of the gym. You're not
gonna beat them down every once in a while. I mean, look,
they're gonna lose games. You lost to Utah, you lost
to Charlotte, and Sky was falling. But on a night
to night basis, you get this kind of effort up
and down, play giddy, and obviously there's a little extra
juice in the tank because of Nico in his blue
suit sitting courtside and the Mavericks being in town.

But that's not something that's just a one off for
this squad.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
I mean, Lebron, you can tell there's a different spring
to what he's had since showed up.

Going back to that Knicks game, which he always.

Plays well in the garden. But you talk to several
of the players, let the cat out of the bag.
Everybody was acting a little different in the in the background,
right in the pregame, right, it was acting different in

for the final twenty two or twenty three games of
the regular season into a playoffs.

I mean, the closure is going to take a while.
I think, I know it just it's not ideal. But
you know, like I said, I'm glad this game is over.
You know, there's a lot of emotions, but we'll go
live by little, you know, and every day is better.

my main boss and my program rerecor said, yeah, you know,
collins interview with Matt Ryan was probably a little bit better.
And I go, okay, so you're comparing these two interviews,
well yeah, and I go, so you're comparing Matt Ryan
with Colin who is sitting down talking to him at
twelve o'clock in the afternoon where it's a lifestyle interview

where they could talk about anything. What questions did you
want me to ask him? Following a game where he
just threw three touchdowns, including the game winning to Roddy
White with like a minute left? What do you want
me to say? Hey, great touchdown, but what's your favorite vegetable?
You really said, you really want me to do that?
And again, this is why I think my career at
ESPN like some of the bosses. I mean, I'm not
a shrinking violet. I say what's on my mind a

little bit too much.

But it just pissed me off, Like you want me
to ask him those ques? That's not a time to

Clearly, the guy is not slowing down. In a twenty seven,
twelve and three to night, he took over in the
fourth quarter for the Lakers. He now knows, Hey, this
this finals window was now open for me. I can
win again. I can now have the end of my
career be great. I can maybe win two and go
out and I win two more. And now suddenly the
question is about me versus Michael. Do I get better
(03:23):
credit just because I shouldn't be penalized because I went
to more finals than Mike Lunch because I didn't win him.
But suddenly, like that's what he sees. He sees that
this finals thing is now wide open for me, And
you know, you obviously we see Luca the player he is,
but now he's getting even more attention.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Because he's with the Lakers, even though he was with
the Mavericks.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
But this pass he made to Austin Reeves tonight where
Reeves hits a three, where Luca starts driving the lane
and Reeves comes bounces out of the lane obviously to
make more room and to get behind the three point line,
like Luca doesn't see him where he ends up. Like
when Lucas starts making this drive, Reeves is in the lane,

and in the beginning of this drive, then Lucas sees
Austin Reeves bounce back out, so he knows he's going
behind the three point line, and all three'ves gets behind
the three point line and stops and Luca's pass is
to that spot and it's an easy It's not like, hey,
it's a great pass and he had to corral it
and go up and shoot. This is a pass that
is right to him and he's able to catch it,

stay set and shoot. There's no moving, there's no I
gotta dribble, I gotta find myself. I gotta set myself.
It's I got it and I'm in my shooting stance
and it's an easy three. Like you see a play
like that and you go, oh, my goodness, is this
is this title window open for the Lakers? Because you know,
we talk about Reeves and Hatchamura are the guys that
are gonna suddenly go, hey, we're scoring twenty some out

of game now because we're wide open.

Because what are you gonna do?

When Lebron can take over and and and Luca can
do this, We're gonna do it. So you see, everything
is it's it's sunshine, lollipops and rainbows for the Lakers
right now. They're excited. They're almost fifteen games over five hundred.
Lebron's got the spring in his step. Luca is happy,
with the revenge game tonight. The support guys are all
making no, We're gonna be wide open to make big
shots and we can make even more money over the course.

win over Denver and it's still one of those.

We'll see you in a series and it plays out differently, Right,

there's some young legs and they can get after it.
But again, it owes to a series. If you give
me Luca and Lebron and the support cast and they're healthy. Right,

a gauntlet coming up.

This is where it gets interesting. We talked about their schedule.
Does get a shot the schedule.

For the second half of the season is tied for
the hardest in the NBA. They start that Moeries with

home and home again. Yeah, just change out the colors
of the court and whatever else. But it's just the
idea that you have this this sixth or seven game stretch,
which is just evil in terms of scheduling making, but

over the the entirety of what constitute the second half
of the season, that they do have the hardest schedule remaining.
All that to be said, if the two of them
are healthy, and Reeves is hitting shots, and Hatchama is
hitting shots, and Jackson Hayes is filling the lane like
he did tonight. Again a front line for Dallas is
not what they expect to be. But you play what

the schedule brings you. This iteration of this team, I'm
not afraid of any other team if I'm JJ Reddick
and the Lakers in the Western Conference in a series.

To all like and we said, this is what when
the trade happened with Luca to the Lakers, what do
we say this is gonna have the effect that when
the Lakers got Pau Gasol from the grid right away,

for the Knicks and the and the Cavaliers Eastern Conference Finals.
But I'm also ready for the Lakers and the Thunder
in the West.

not dismissing him. Nobody outside of their actual broadcasters talks

defensive metrics, we could try to figure out what the

But you know what, when an offense is humming as
the Lakers were, that puts a lot of pressure. We
do it with the NFL as we talk about the
league week to week here on the show. When you've
got an offense that's going to pressure you, like say

you're playing Detroit, well, your decision making on some of
those third down or to go for it on fourth
down are gonna be different against Detroit than they are
against other teams. Likewise, against the Lakers, you're maybe making
some shots selection and maybe you're gripping a little tighter
than you would be against some other squads because you
know each of those shots matters to a different degree. Right,

You're not running them out of the gym. You're not
gonna beat them down every once in a while. I mean, look,
they're gonna lose games. You lost to Utah, you lost
to Charlotte, and Sky was falling. But on a night
to night basis, you get this kind of effort up
and down, play giddy, and obviously there's a little extra
juice in the tank because of Nico in his blue
suit sitting courtside and the Mavericks being in town.

But that's not something that's just a one off for
this squad.

I mean, Lebron, you can tell there's a different spring

And then I interviewed Matt Ryan on a Thursday night
following a Thursday night football game, and we talked about
the game and I asked him a quite you know

talked about the next day and I had I had

an air check session and both of my bosses, like
my main boss and my program rerecor said, yeah, you know,
collins interview with Matt Ryan was probably a little bit better.
And I go, okay, so you're comparing these two interviews,
well yeah, and I go, so you're comparing Matt Ryan
with Colin who is sitting down talking to him at
twelve o'clock in the afternoon where it's a lifestyle interview
(21:57):
where they could talk about anything. What questions did you
want me to ask him? Following a game where he
just threw three touchdowns, including the game winning to Roddy
White with like a minute left? What do you want
me to say? Hey, great touchdown, but what's your favorite vegetable?
You really said, you really want me to do that?
And again, this is why I think my career at
ESPN like some of the bosses. I mean, I'm not
a shrinking violet. I say what's on my mind a
(22:19):
little bit too much.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
But it just pissed me off, Like you want me
to ask him those ques? That's not a time to
ask him those questions. I got it.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
I got two minutes with him after the game that
everybody just saw, and it was a big what you
really want me to, Well, that's kind of what you look.

For in the and none.

Oh hey, I'm sorry, I'm stupid. I'm stupid for telling
you that. Yeah, I realize it's right after a game.
The guy's got his uniform on in the locker room. Hey,

That's not the time for that bad halftime bathroom cigarette snack,
whiteboard cigarette.

you know, and there's a time in place for that.

And I still think about that because I was I'm like,
these are people who are my bosses. And one person
I was really high up at ESPN. I'm like, I
can't believe he said yeah, yeah, yeah, one person's where
they they're gone.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
I know heavy Now, I'm like, you my long history
the business. I wait, I just wait, you.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
Want me to really you want you wanted me to
ask him.

Those questions While he's doing he's gonna he's gonna hang
up that photo. What the hell kind of question that
he's I don't know, man, And he's gonna be not
into the interview, because what people don't get with interviews
is that this has to be an enjoyable experience for
them or it's not gonna be a good interview, and
he would have just blown me off, hung up the
fro and I really I was stunned that these are
my bosses that allegedly knew and quote knew a lot

about radio and they're telling me, yeah, I don't know, yeah,
that that interview. I'm like, if I was doing the
stuff during the day and I could do a lifestyle interview, hey,
that's of course what we're gonna do, but you really
wanted me to do that. And it's like they couldn't
admit that they were wrong, that they just wanted, Oh,
let's have this because this is a way, because nobody
could really doing it because Colin and Mike and Mike
(24:06):
back that we're so powerful that they couldn't really tell
them anything, right, because these guys are huge stars and
everything else. But so they make up for it with
the rest of the staff or Okay, we're really gonna
be on you guys for stuff. And I'm like, just
be fair, just be fair with what with what you do.
And I was so mad at that. I'm like, you
know what, I'm never gonna win here. I'm never because
that was the stupidest thing to tell me. Yeah, I
really liked the interview because it was about the game.

You've been sitting next to me for eleven years.

No, and I love that and I did that. It
works out, okay, But like that's a question for Luca.

But well, you're coming off the game. You got to
ask game specific questions. You know, you know you're not
going to get a good answer with when you ask
Lucas something like, it just stops the momentum of the

forget and we go back to her house and her
mom there's all these speedies that are made that are

eat like all of them because they were so because
it's not really big chunks of it's little.
