Speaker 1 (00:56):
And boy, do we have a big day in the
NFL to get to We got big changes coming to
the game. Jason Cole's coming by early with us in
about twenty minutes. But how about what we have seen
in the NBA in the last few minutes. And here's
where you think? Uh, are you gonna tell me the
Knicks winning a generic game against the Sixers because Paul

(01:18):
George decided not to stop podcasting till it was too late. No, no, no,
this is where Isaac when you think I'm gonna.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Zag one of the greatest lines of the day, by
the way.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Which is, yes, well, guess John, everybody is podcasting too much.
Jalen Brunston and Josh Harder podcast everybody's podcasting too much. Yeah, no, no, no,
the Knicks did.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Wait.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
I wanted people that the Knicks did win to and
they did get a win without Karl Anthony Towns.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
They did win tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
But and if the Knicks two go out in the playoffs,
it will be very quickly that I will say I
am leaping to driving the bandwagon of the Detroit Pistons.
Look at my Pistons. I was only two or three
depending how far are you go back on soult media,
two or three years early in picking the Pistons resurgence.

(02:04):
So I'm gonna take this as a win like it's
it's not like you know, for ten years in a row,
I picked him Like John Paul Morosi when he comes
on the show and every year he picks the Mariners
for the playoffs, or like Chris Berman when he would
pick the Niners and the Bills Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Every single year. Is two favorite teams. Now I was
three years early. And here are the Pistons.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
They win again tonight, again, the best story in the NBA,
and they beat the Celtics. They don't just beat the Celtics,
they run away from them in the fourth quarter one
seventeen ninety seven. Of course, no Jalen Brown, but it
doesn't matter. The Pistons have now won forty five games
in a row. Rick Mhorn has a big night.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
With fifteen rebounds in two fights.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
I mean, this has been an unbelievable year. And I'm
telling you we talked about JB. Bickerstaff a couple of
weeks ago. There's no other choice for coach of the
Year in the NBA. I mean what he's done with
a team last year at this point won eight games,
right like, they're plus twenty five in the in the
win loss record over what they were last year. And
it's not like they brought in a bunch of new talent.

(03:03):
He was able to harness what they have. Kate Cunningham
has turned into a star. You get stuff like twenty
eight from Malik Beasley off the bench tonight and they
boat race the Celtics, who are just off boat racing
the Knicks. And I'm telling you no better story in
the NBA than the Pistons. Sometimes it's just about positivity
and fun and where you get to go wow and
just enjoy what's going on. But man, I'll tell you

(03:25):
the Pistons now seven games over five hundred. I mean
they have no chance of winning the Central obviously, but
I mean this is a team that they can find
themselves in.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
The top four of the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
No talking home court advantage, Mike Carmen, home court advantage
for the.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Pistons, next level stuff.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
Beasley being that one big piece that showed up this offseason,
right and twenty six tonight, averaging over sixteen.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
For the year. He's a new lou Williams. Oh. I
think that one of my favorite players of all time.
That's it.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
Yeah, I'm gonna walk around now with a shirt that
either says Malik or Beasley. But it's a fantastic testament
to you know, Detroit in a resurgence here all across
the board. They were inspired by biting kneecaps or something
like that. And Cunningham really coming into his own nine

(04:15):
to twenty one, twenty one and eleven to night eleven assists.
That is, you got a couple of other big contributors,
and Tobias Harris continues to put up numbers. So yeah,
all in some good balance, a great second half, tied
at halftime, and then absolutely boat raised the Celtics like
they put a lid on the basket in the fourth
quarter or really at halftime. I don't know who the

(04:37):
halftime entertainment was, but congratulate them for the inspiration that
they gave. But for the Piston's been a hell of
a run. We've been watching it. You again, called it
on air about three years ago, which means it had
to go to the absolute bottom. You know, it goes
back to helter skelter. When I get to the bottom,

(04:59):
I go back to the top. And sure, Sureston's rolling
sixteen and thirteen at home, thirty three, twenty six. Overall
not world beating, but in the mix of what will
be a cluttered, battle worn Eastern Conference. I mean, your knicks,
they got five guys. They can go play those five guys. Sure, Sure,
that's it.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yeah, there it is.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
That's the that's where we're at. The Celtics get hammered
today in Boston, my Pistons, by my falling in Boston
today because of a big loss like this.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
No, and that's why this is not a big deal
of Isaiah Thomas smirking at Larry Bird or something. No.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
No, this is why this story is so great is because,
like you know, Boston, everybody wins. Celtics fans don't care
they won the title last year. They're terrific. They're just
waiting for the playoffs. It doesn't matter they lost the
night to the Pistons. Look at the Pistons, man, Like,
everybody's gonna go back and start looking at video from
two thousand and four, sorry, Frostburg, the early nineties and
the bad boys, like this is fun. The Pistons being

(06:00):
good is fun here. Indeed, Detroit basketball like it's fun
and it's and no city deserves some kind of sports
renaissance more than Detroit, right, Like, not just because it's
my adopted but I've been going back there for you know,
for thirty years now. It's like, wow, the sports scene
there has been really rough.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Here. They are now.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
Saying you've got sweat equity and you think you could
go become mayor or something.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Oh yeah, I could. I could run for the mayor
of Detroit right now? Are you kidding? Oh yeah, yeah,
your slogan. You wantn't watch my slogan, Frostburg, What do
you got? Nobody's brought more sadness to the city than me.
How do we bring sad I did to Montgomery? No, no, no, no,
no no no.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
See Lions, and you got everybody's hopes up, only to
dash them. Of course, Ben Johnson doing all his uh
hubrists and and let's throw the football with the lineman
and all that other crap and wide receiver came back
to bite him in the ass. So I mean, that's
partially on him, but I think you would still get
the lion's share of the blame. But I mean, David
Montgomery was a guest of the show and immediately gets

(06:57):
hurt thereafter. There's only one common app there.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
He was back by the time they lost in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Not my fault I got then after that, I got
them to the NFC title game a year ago. I
told you I believed in them before anybody else believe.
I told you this team is took them No I
got them as far as Frostburg. Eventually, you got to
go out and make plays. Man, I can only get
yourself far you. You got to go out and make plays.
And you didn't make enough plays. That's not on me,

(07:24):
that's on you. I I go to.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Bed, just so sorry, not going to cut it. I say, yeah.

Speaker 5 (07:32):
They also didn't execute the plays that were called. I
mean Dan Campbell with living in you know, forever off
those fourth down calls. If those guys had actually, you know,
caught the ball, not his fault, probably just got to
finish the execution.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Look at the the resurgence of the Lions, the resurgence
of the Pistons.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Michigan and Michigan.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
State basketball is still pay the same time, right, The
Tigers are coming off a playoff.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Appearance last year with a with a with.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
A payroll of like eight million dollars overall, and like
shuven million up. It was hove baiez, right. I mean
this isn't this is I mean, this is a renaissance.
This is like the great This is like they will
write in history books when you read about this was
the time for Mesopotamia when they enjoyed a great belief
and prosperity for a good one hundred, one hundred and

(08:21):
fifty years.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
It was the era of good feeling here.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Then, of course there was the wooly mammothsol died and
they couldn't get food. But then what happened is now
this is they're gonna look back and go Man, that early,
that twenty twenties.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Man, that twenty twenties running Detroit. This is awesome.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
I mean, the Pistons are the number one trending topic
on Twitter. When does I mean, come on, man, the
Pistons are there. There's been no thirty for thirty on
the Pistons. Kevin Durant didn't get traded to the Pistons,
although see I told you that would have been great
at the deadline, right the Pistons.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
I mean, look, I didn't want to move though.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
It's the this is the best story in the end.
Sometimes stories are like that. It's just wow, it's fun that,
you know, the the young talent is coming in and
the dude allway out Jade and Ivy who was still hurt.
Uh you know, I mean, really this is a this
is a Pistons team that can really not just hey,
they're a nice story. But at some point you're gonna go.
I don't really want to play the Pistons in the playoffs, man,

(09:11):
I don't. I don't know about this, I don't know
if I want to go play them. I don't think
the Cavaliers want any part of the pistol. I Diin'd
rather play the Knicks in the playoffs. I think the
Calves want the Pistons at all. Look at you now now,
just poking the bear.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
Take nonsense and trying to get these Midwestern cities beat
each other up.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Poking the bear, poking the bear, poking the bear, poking
the bear. You just show up to the arena giving
out muskrats.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon Live from the tirac
dot Com Studios. Now, the other point that we brought
up very briefly a few minutes ago before we talked
about the love of the Pistons. Uh yeah, the Knicks
beat the Sixers tonight, make it nine losses in a row.
The process is over right, that no process. Now process cheese,
that's what it is. It's probably the process is done
and nothing stands for or the end of the process.

(10:01):
If two nights ago was the death of the process,
you know, losing by fifty to the Bulls. Tonight might
be the wake where they lose their ninth in a row.
And Paul George announces on his podcast ironically that he's
going to stop doing his podcast because he wants to
dedicate himself to getting on the court more and and
and being better on the court and being in shape

(10:23):
more so we can hopefully lead the Sixers to some
kind of title that at twenty and thirty eight. I
don't know how you're doing that.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
I don't know that their.

Speaker 5 (10:31):
Search podcast, I can't say I've ever listened to it.
Does he do a lot of deep dives into Mesopotamian
stuff like you were you were diving up too, Constantino,
how many times did you think of the Roman Empire today?

Speaker 3 (10:45):
I mean the two four Pissons.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
By the time he was nineteen years old, Alexander the
Great had conquered the vast majority of Europe. But there
was a problem the Tigris Euphrate's river. There was a
big blockade he was unable to get through, so they
sent to Trojan horse in and then air support came in,
and uh, that just blew everything up out of the water.
Remember that scene from The Eternals. That's kind of what happened,
because the Eternals were around way back then.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
Nice, I really thought you were going to dial up
and say air supply, just to see if you can
cross it up a little bit.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
But yeah, no, really, I as the terror Bacos were
flying over, they were playing I'm All out of Love,
I'm All lost.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
You want to go back and listen to an episode
of the podcast or two though, Jason, I want to
see what kind of deep dives he's doing. You'll be
with two clicks, kind of like the Governor coming out
with a new podcast because the other one got no traction.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Hey, I'm announcing it out. You just need one a
month ago.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
To have him say, I want to get my body ready. Dude,
there's there's twenty five games left in the season.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
You've ready for summer time? How are you not in shape? Now?

Speaker 6 (11:50):
Like?

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Why?

Speaker 7 (11:51):
What?

Speaker 3 (11:51):
What are you? What are you gonna do now?

Speaker 7 (11:53):
Now?

Speaker 1 (11:54):
I gotta walk away from my podcast now, I gotta
do it because now things are happening. I gotta walk
back like nothing stands for the end of the sixth
and really the end of Paul George's career.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Like when you think.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
About, Hey, Paul George is getting paid all kinds of money,
but boy, his team's never win.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Why, well, it's stuff like this.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
Hey, after doing this podcast for so long, I really
I need I need to focus on the basketball season now,
game sixty three, we've lost eight in a row.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
I really need to focus on the game. I can't.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
I mean in the positive side though, Jason, he's doing
all of this himself. He doesn't need to have a
bunch of rats like they do in Dallas with a
bunch of hit.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
Jobs after the guy's gone. He's just doing it to himself.

Speaker 5 (12:32):
Hey, I should devote more time instead of learning how
to use my sure microphone?

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Hey, can you can you sum up the twenty twenty
four twenty twenty five season for the Sixers and one sentence? Yeah,
and beads hurt and Paul George did a podcast until
it was too late.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Here you go, that's a Sixer season right there.

Speaker 5 (12:50):
And there's Maxie walking alone on the side wondering where.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
It went wrong.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
I got I gotta stop now, you mean, now you
got it? Now you gotta get yourself in really you
gotta get it shape really like that?

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Now you do his defense.

Speaker 5 (13:02):
Though against the Knicks, he did have one of the
best games, his best game of the year.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Well because he stopped doing his podcast. Now you had
he had all kinds of energy. He's done with his
podcast now and I like that he's announcing. He announces
on the podcast, this is my last podcast. I gotta
I gotta set back from the podcast.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Oh but how do we know that's what he said?
If nobody's listening to it, Well, no they didn't.

Speaker 5 (13:21):
Actually he put out a press release or leaked it
to somebody somewhere. By the way, you're now, I gotta
watch out score the Sixers seventeen thirteen today.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Yeah, it's it's about that. I mean, come on, man,
it's a Sixers. It's just what I can't really say. Hey,
it's baby step to the Knicks. It's the Sixers.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Come on minutes.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
This week, I lost another two and a half pounds
with PhD weight loss. So far, I'm over twenty five
pounds lost. Mike and I have been doing it for
a couple of months. We both feel great. He's lost
over twenty five pounds. It's something when you can walk
into a weight room and pick up a weight and go, oh,
my goodness, this is what I've lost. PhD weight loss
has been great for us because one of the things

(14:40):
we've done is get an eating coach. We hire experts
and coaches for everything, golf swing coaches, financial advisors, tax guys,
math tutors for your kids because I can't do the
math the way they do a common core That's not
how we did.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
You forget.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
I'll get to get you a tutor. This is how
it goes same thing for your diet. If you're overweight,
it impacts everything energy, foods, health, waistline, weight, sleep, and
it's one thing we just wing it well. Phdweightloss dot Com.
You get an eating coach. My PhD nutritionist is awesome,
like a pitcher learning how to throw a curveball. Eating
the right way as a learned skill. PhD clients lose

(15:14):
weight the very first week. Just call today to get
matched with an expert nutritionist. Call eight sixty four six
four four nineteen hundred. That's eight sixty four six four
four nineteen hundred. Tell them Jason Smith and Mike Harmon
sent you and get two additional weeks free including meals.
That's my Phdweightloss dot Com as the website myphdweightloss dot

(15:35):

That's eight sixty four six four four nineteen hundred.

search Jason Smith and Mike Harmon wherever you get your podcasts.
You'll find today's show and a best of version posted
right after we get off the air. Well, speaking of
best of versions, today was report card Day in the NFL,
fast becoming one of my favorite days of the year,
where the results are known of surveys that are sent
anonymously to teams who grade their own franchises for things

(16:40):
like how good the weight room is, how good the
owner is, how good the food is, and you get
some eye opening stuff on what organizations seem to do
things the right way and what organizations seem not to.
For instance, the only owner to get an f from
his own players was Jets owner Woody Johnson.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Yeah, when that.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Story came up today, I knew there was one person
to talk to. He joined us now in the Hotline
thirty thirteen NFL Hall of Fame pro Football Hall of
Fame voter. He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two,
longtime NFL insider.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Well, what he's round up Tonight's going to be a
peach for you, isn't it?

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Jay Kenny had talk yet he's just laughing.

Speaker 6 (17:30):
Jud Jod.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Yeah, it was that kind of day for us.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
But all I gotta say, I'm not surprised he was
voted the worst owner in the NFL because he is
the worst owner in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
I bet it's not a surprise to me.

Speaker 7 (17:45):
No, it's not shocker. I mean, you've owned the team
for twenty something years. I made this find to somebody
recently on a Jets podcast. So they asked me about
the coaching for and everything that they were doing. And
again I worked for the thirty thirteam, and so Tannonbaum

(18:06):
and Rick Snilmer and guys who are knowledgeable know the league.
That was a good service to hire. The problem I
have is, you've been an owner for twenty five years,
why do you need to hire outside people to figure
out who your next coaches? I mean, you get what
I'm saying, like, you should know how this works by now.

Speaker 5 (18:30):
Well, on the contrary, isn't it good that they finally
admit that they don't know what they're doing.

Speaker 7 (18:40):
There is a certain amount of honesty to this whole thing,
but they're in lies alsory problem, Like you've been at
this for twenty five years? Would he? And by the way,
in day one or year one of your stewardship, I'm
being scrawled basically on paper and crayon. From that going on,

(19:08):
you didn't seem to understand maybe you have some issues.
Maybe you have some issues. So when people are scrawling
in gray on, they don't want to work for you,
and they end up being maybe the greatest coach in
the NFL history.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
Well, the thing is, and this is what I say,
Jets always gonna Jet right? Like you think a lot
of this is about treatment of the players, all, okay, no,
But the biggest thing that the Jets players were upset about,
supposedly was a year ago.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
They said the food situation was terrible.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
They liked the nutritionists and everything, but they said the
food situation was bad.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
What did they do this year?

Speaker 1 (19:44):
They got rid of the nutritionists, The food got worse,
and the nutritionists went to another team where they got
it even greater. Great like they got like an A
plus because they love the nutritionists so much. So the
Jets players say, hey, nutrition's bad. Okay, we're gonna get rid.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Of that person.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
We're gonna make the food even worse. And now we're
going to see what we do next year. And if
dal it's it's even lower than it was a year ago.
The Jets are proving there is no such thing as
rock bottom.

Speaker 7 (20:10):
They're striving for new levels. That's definitely true. They're they're
they're looking to set new standards, So give them. Give
them a lot of credit for that.

Speaker 5 (20:21):
I do appreciate the sound bites and press conferences of
Aaron Glenn. Question is who's he yelling at on the
sideline taking snaps for him this year?

Speaker 7 (20:33):
I mean, I mean, is it Jordan.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
Travis or Ian Rappaport. Either one could be a quarterback Derby.
It's already a Derby.

Speaker 7 (20:52):
Under center. There'd be some people that really enjoy that.
Oh man, I don't know. I just don't know what
they're going to do. I have you know, do they
just do they go and get a guy like Russell
Wilson and let him play for a year or two,
just to play out the string so they have somebody

(21:14):
of somewhat relevant competency or they suck it up and
you know what's the you know, there's there's gotta be
something better than suck for Manning, you know, like there's
a better there's a better.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
Arts. We've already patted them. We got to first time.

Speaker 7 (21:30):
Yeah, starts for Art or something like that. Yeah, the
March for Arch thing, that's the only thing that's going
to keep it all alive for a while. And then
there's going to be the huge disappointment. It's going to
be sort of like who's the ring back you gots
two years ago? That got the who was the guy
out of Penna State where everybody just you know they

(21:53):
took that kid.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Yeah, we're going back to Night's.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
Yeah, it's gonna be the same when they find out
that Art Manning refuses to play for them after losing
what thirty three games in two years.

Speaker 7 (22:12):
Like, it's gonna be that's gonna be a tough one.
It's gonna be the reaction like Blair Thomas can be
just like that.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
It's every twenty some odd years a Manning says, I'd
rather go back to college than play for the Jets.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
That's what's gonna happen.

Speaker 7 (22:28):
Yes, isn't playing for this because this is the other thing,
Like players understand, like you've got bad management, you've got
bad ownership. You here's the other side of it is
who's inheriting that team when when he goes, who's taken
over next Steve Cohen?

Speaker 1 (22:49):
Steve Cohen's gonna buy You's gonna have the Mets and
the Jets job.

Speaker 7 (22:53):
That's the only thing that the only hope you have
that Cohen will take a billions. No, I mean going
to be the kids, and the kids now have the
blendmish of the of the manning stuff, you know, the
not the manning stuff, I'm madden stuff.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
So it's just going to be.

Speaker 7 (23:09):
I mean, I don't know how this gets a lot
better unless Woody has some kind of man kulpa and says,
I'm I'm completely figuring out what I'm doing wrong here.
The problem you have with Woody is that he's extremely egotistical.

(23:30):
He's really hard headed and thinks that he's always right,
and you know, he he plays out his management fantasies
through the Jets. And now I'm starting to get kind
of serious, and this is getting into psychobabble. But the
truth is that Woody, who's never really been put in

(23:54):
charge of anything with Johnson and Johnson, plays out his
little role of I want to be in charge. I
want to be respected. I want to you know, I
want to have a say so by running the Jets
because they say, yeah, go play with your team. Just
go do that and stay away from the company. That's
how this works.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
That is at Jason Cole sixty two thirty third team
Mike Tannebound's right hand man as always, thank you j
Cole for stopping by with us awesome, awesome stuff. There goes,
there goes what he's round up, There goes a song.
I'm telling you now, he got really serious at the end.

Speaker 5 (24:33):
He didn't even invoke that sweet Brick would be the
guy soulesso to take over.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
I mean, really, Brick Johnson owning the Jets is only
what we deserve. I mean, I really, I mean it
doesn't get any better than that. Brick Johnson is going
to be twenty five years old. He's going to own
a football team that's gonna.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Be the best. Loud noises.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
I could only aspire to be in a family with
great riches that afford me entry into just such a
sought after industry.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
That is good.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
You got you just got a quarterback in a wide
receiver cut and you got you gotta lay low for
a while there.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
Oh my goodness, we got more NFL coming up.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
In ninety seconds, get to the big changes could be
coming to the NFL this season. But first, someone who's
been called the Woody Johnson of Fox Sports Radio around
for about twenty years, and only now are people paying
attention to really what she's doing.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
It's monte Bologna. I don't know what.

Speaker 8 (25:27):
Toe about that one, Jason.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
You know, usually okay man with.

Speaker 8 (25:32):
These comparisons, I don't know about that one.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
As soon as you invoke the Jets, you've lost monsie.

Speaker 7 (25:38):
Ye what you did?

Speaker 3 (25:39):
Yes, Harmon is correct on that. How about this?

Speaker 1 (25:42):
How about this someone who someone who's been called the
New York Jets of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
She's entertaining and makes you laugh. It's Monte Bologna. I
don't care.

Speaker 8 (25:51):
I love about her, but it's still the Jets.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
And during the last season, you know about tasting.

Speaker 6 (25:57):
Your round, that's a final.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
Johnson's Those are fighting words.

Speaker 8 (26:07):
Those are fighting words.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
I know.

Speaker 8 (26:09):
You notice how he says that, because because I can't
do something about it right now, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Now, let's go to someone who has been called the
brick Johnson of Fox Sports Radio, someone whose future is
unbelievably bright.

Speaker 8 (26:21):
It's Monty Okay, okay, all right there, that's better.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
Yes, Johnson is you can go to football team. Okay,
that's what he's kid. That that gets people fired and cut?
Oh really?

Speaker 8 (26:33):
Oh the way I said that the rating on the
Madden Score wasn't good enough?

Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah, yeah, that's that's that's myream. So we go from
Woody to brick. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
Wow, that's kind of the same thing for three little pigs. Right,
it was a house made of sticks, then it was
a house made of brick.

Speaker 8 (26:49):
Right, I'll go that is all right, Look at this,
what a good update.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
Let's check in on we haven't heard a score yet.
That's how great this is.

Speaker 8 (27:00):
Winning there, Matzi, thanks so much, guys. I couldn't do
it without you. Two games still going on in the NBA.
It's the Kings and the Jazz with Sacramento on top
sixty nine to sixty five minutes to go in the
third with five minutes to go in the first half,
the Rockets continue to extend their lead over the Spurs
fifty two to thirty four. Give it up for the Pistons.
They've won eight in a row and they beat the
Celtics win seventeen to ninety seven. Jason Tatum twenty seven

(27:24):
points not good enough. Malik Beasley off the bench twenty
six points for Detroit. The Pacers outscored the Raptors, won
eleven to ninety one. Tyrese Haliburn thirty three points on
eleven assists, Jalen Bronson thirty four points and seven assists
as the Knicks held on to beat the seventy six
Ers one ten.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
To one oh five.

Speaker 8 (27:39):
Philadelphia has lost nine in a row and also seventy
six ers four were Paul George said that he was
going to be doing his podcast for the near future
because he wants to focus on the rest of the
season trying to make the playoffs. Obviously, he didn't win
for this game, he probably means for the next game.
The Trailblazers beat the Wizards, won twenty nine to one
twenty one. The Thunder came back to defeat the Nets
one twenty nine to one twenty one.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
That heat crushed the Hawks.

Speaker 8 (28:00):
Thirty one to one on nine and thank goodness the
Clippers one because I was gonna shoot my foot guys,
but they beat the Bulls went twenty to one seventeen
James Harden thirty points and six assists. Yes, it was necessary.
They've been losing some games. They should not have been losing.
In men's college, who's.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Here's I should have said that now to someone who
reminds the New York Jets. They both find a way
to want to shoot themselves in the foot. Yes, six months, Oh.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
My gosh, that would have been perfect. That would have
been it. Yes.

Speaker 8 (28:25):
In men's college hoops, number seven Saint John's is on
top of Butler fifty one to forty nine halfway through
the second half and one upset so far. Vanderbilt took
down number twelve Texas A and m eighty six to
eighty four.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Back to you guys, thanks a bunch one.

Speaker 8 (28:38):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
Now, two big stories out of the NFL. This a
combine is getting in full swing. And I don't mean
the alleged confrontation between NFL insider Jordan schultzon and NFL
insider ian rapaport.

Speaker 5 (28:50):
Which that is brewing in the background, right we got
security video, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (28:54):
We're waiting to see you. We're hoping there's video, hoping
to say you have video in all locations, don't they?

Speaker 1 (29:00):
I would, well, but maybe not where that is see
whatever it wants.

Speaker 5 (29:03):
You would become a law and Order episode right now. Yeah,
but there's got questions here.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
But if it's a movie or a TV show, there's
never Oh yeah, the camera wasn't working or it doesn't
cut cover that corner of the restaurant. Ah man, I
thought there was a camera, like lazy writing, How do
we get out of this when there should be cameras?
I will just say the camera wasn't working or the
camera didn't cover that corner of the restaurant.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
Yeah, that's lazy, righting.

Speaker 5 (29:24):
Yeah, in this case, using the camera wasn't working really
problematic for one of the sides in this.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
So outside of the changes of really which should be
keeping Jordan Schultz an I in rapid Port apart, two
big changes coming, one definitively to the NFL. Although this
a little bit too late for the Buffalo Bills, but
at least, hey, they can say they sparked a rule change.
First downs next season will now be measured electronically.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
No more guessing, no more.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Official from the chief sideline overruling an official on the
bill side down is.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
I didn't say anything that wasn't fact correct, I did.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
You just had to an example that you just wanted
to make yourself feel better.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Well, because that's why we have this rule change is
because of that play. We have the rule change because
of that play. That's why we have this and now.
And to think the chain gang is still going to
be there as backups in case something goes wrong and
the electronics don't work.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
The chain gang is still going to be in the sideline.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
It's still gonna be something for for players to look
at when they see for the down and distance markers.
So it's still going to be something that's used. It's
just now electronically, we're going to see where a ball passes,
if a ball passes the first down line or not. So, hey,
this is a great idea. It's an it's an awesome
idea because I always default to, yeah, oh, you're taking

(30:42):
you know, the job of the guys on the on
the on the chain gang, or this, I go, yeah,
but I get that, but they're still working. They're still
working the sideline. And anytime we have the technology that
definitively can make something better, you kind of have to
do that. Now you have the technology that maybe make
something better.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
That we're not sure. But if you have technology.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
That can make something better, you kind of have to
do that. And that's why this is that this is
a great idea. I love this idea by the NFL.

Speaker 5 (31:09):
Hawkeye comes to these guys get since they're now just
backups and more like I don't know, life size stand
e'es for lack of a better term, to give you
a visual identification of where the first downs are.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
Do they get paid less? Oh? I don't think you
can do that. I mean, how much make is? They're
not really doing the job anymore.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
They're just kind of standing there, but they still have
to be right in case something happened.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
I mean they're no, but still not a think about it.
You're not measuring off that really anymore.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
No no, no, no, no, but you're not measuring off
of it. But all the other downs. This is something
that everybody's okay, it's third, oh, half the yard, third
and half the yard?

Speaker 3 (31:49):
Okay, we got. They look over to the sideline and
see this is where the ball is.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Where's the yard markets They can't take them away because
then you would go, where's first down?

Speaker 3 (31:56):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
I can't say electronics stuff on there, but the electronic Hey,
we know the ball traveled ten yards.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Eah, I don't know that.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
But basically you know where to spot it where it goes.
You know how teams are gonna know how you're gonna
move stuff back where the original line of scrimmage is.
Now they're they can't take money. They're still doing the job.
It's just not we don't get the drama of here
comes the chain we're gonna measure. I mean, nowadays we
kind of know when it's a first down or when
it's not. Anyway, I can see when the official come

(32:27):
running in the field though, right, yeah, but you can
see where the yellow first down line is and the
official runs on the field, and you see where all
that's going to be a left foot spot and we're
not getting the first down that short. Like, it's kind
of the drama of that is kind of gone. Where
it used to be a really great moment, these guys
running out. Let's see when they stretch the chain, but like,
like that's kind of gone and I'd rather they get
it right rather that happened. Oh, of course, it's all

(32:49):
for accuracy. The gamblers demand it. Uh, you know what
I actually you're not gonna believe. You're going to think
I'm lying to you. But you know, next hour I
will tell you I have a great chain gangster from
high school. Really, Yes, I got in a game I
wasn't even playing in. I got yelled at by the officials.
They were measuring a first down. Are supposed to tease
that I wasn't even playing. So we'll do that coming up.

(33:11):
I promptly got that. Plus we got the big rule
overtime could be changed in the NFL. Yeah, Jets owner
Woody Johnson got in that from his players.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Hooray. Yeah, keep it here.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
NFL Power Hour continues Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

(33:59):
We got more report card drama coming up in a
few minutes. Like we're parents of high school children, we
have report card drama coming in. But look, two big
things changes the NFL is considering. We talked about the
first one a few minutes ago. The chain gang is
no more first downs are going to be measured electronically
next year. So first downs like the one that Josh
Allen looked like he got against the Chiefs in the

(34:20):
AFC title game might get to judicated a little bit better.

Speaker 3 (34:24):
The other one's about overtime.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
But before we get to overtime, I promised I would
tell you this story about the time I got yelled
at by the officials in a high school game. I
wasn't even playing it, okay, ready for this. So when
I was playing JV football, right, I was a freshman
JV JV team and most of the all the players
on JV we played on Sunday and the varsity played Saturday.

(34:48):
So our thing was we were supposed to be there
Saturday to help with anything the team needed before the game,
whether it was to help work on the field, to
help deal with warm up, help warm everybody up, to
you know, be the water boys, to do all the
all the different things you need on the sideline. All
jvs were there to do that. So everybody kind of
had a rotation at of thing, and this one day

(35:11):
was where I was the I was the water boy, right,
I was supposed to bring out water to the to
the players. It's like, okay, great, so I took my turn.
Nobody wanted to do that, but I'm like, okay, what
I mean, I'll do it. Everybody else has to do it.
We're all the team. So they're measuring for a big
first down in the middle of the fourth quarter and
and we're on defense and it looks like it's short,
like it's going to be fourth and one, but they're measuring.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
So I bring the water out to the team in
the huddle. I'm giving it to the guys.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
The guys that talk to me, and I say to
the captain, I go, they're not measuring that right, because
what you talk about? I go, look, and the thing
is they had the the the way they measured it.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
They had the.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
The first five yards were straight right, And I don't
know me because our field was a dust.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
Bowl, so I think they were just looking for a.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
For a spot where where the where the chalk was
from where the ball was they put the thing so
they had it go straight for the first five yards.
Then they had an official who was holding the link
there and then they measured and the ball was to
the side about like five yards, so they dragged the
chain at an angle. And I go and I said,
you can't measure that way. That's gonna that that's that's

(36:14):
not even measuring an extra five yards. And the captain
is like, dude, what are you talking about? What do
you And I get you know, it's the middle of
the game and it's you know, they're you know, it's
a or it's the fourth quarter of a game and
they're all sweating their asses off.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
We didn't win a lot of games. The game was closed,
like what do you talk? I go, do you see this?

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Do you see it look you see how the angle
if they had it straight out, it would be further
away from the ball. And they're measuring and the nose
of the football is like right at the chain. I go,
if they're measuring it straight, they get you know, they
don't get the first down. And one of the officials
heard me and says, can you pipe down over there?
Can you pipe down over there? And you know me,
even when I was fourteen, I said, you're not measuring

(36:50):
it right. You got to keep that thing that's gotta
go out straight. Oh my god, I'm gonna get a
personal fout penal.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
Sure it is just gonna matter anymore.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
And one of the players, I forget who it was,
he grabbed me and said, dude, good thing with the math,
but shut up. I said, okay, and I go back
off and I tell the coach they're not measuring it right.
But then it looked out and it looked like they
did move it to measure and they were short on
on third down. I go, I just got us four
a third down stop there by myself. I got us

(37:23):
a third I almost got us a fifteen yard penalty.
You know, because when does that ever happen? The guy
with the water gets it, you know, it starts mouthing
off to the officials.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
Fifteen yards like Gonda.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
Good bath ball, good man, get off the field on
the water boy.

Speaker 3 (37:39):
And you want a great PostScript to this after the game.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
After the game, one of the one of the ore,
one of our best players, defensive line. He went he
he played both ways. He played offensive line, defensive line.
He goes up to me, he says, I heard you.
Uh you helped us at the with that first down.
I said, yeah, because we stopped him on fourth down,
like fourth and one, they didn't get to an incomplete pass.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
We took over and he was like, did you help?
I said thanks.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
He goes, You know, I didn't know that at the time.
I said, oh no. I said, well, hey, no problem.
He goes, but he goes thanks, and I said great,
and he looks at me. I go what he goes?
All I know is I didn't get any water because
when I turned around, you weren't on the field anymore.
And I said, hey, dude, sorry, man, I'm so sorry.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
What are you almost caused hydration situation?

Speaker 1 (38:21):
He said, but we got it, you know, we got
the fourth out, so okay, like all right.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
Great, carry you off the field or anything.

Speaker 1 (38:26):
Yeah, here's the kid with the dude wearing gray sweats
and the Curtis High School T shirt.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Here he is.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
He's the hero of the day. I can't imagine if
I came off. He had to tell a coach, why
do we get a penalty? I said, they were measuring wrong,
and and and then the referees told me.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
To be quiet. So you were quiet? No, I actually
said something after that. I yelled at him again.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
Sorry, coach, I'm gonna I'll go clean out my locker
down on it, coach, like we would, they would have
this right.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
They would have the ball like inside our twenty yard line.

Speaker 5 (39:03):
And now the Troubles and Trials of Little Jason Smith.
There's me man animated Jason Smith right here. That's a
great episode. But you're measuring it wrong. You gotta make
the longest yards. Oh sorry, Jason Smith. I kind of
look like kyu.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
Oh no, no, wasn't No. I didn't have that kind
of you had white hair at that point. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
I didn't have that voice too.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Oh you're not measuring right. No, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 7 (39:30):
No, Jason was Pete Davidson on your team.

Speaker 1 (39:33):
No, I was a couple Pete Davids a couple of
years younger than me. I think I think Pete Pete
Davidson is like in his early forties, right, So yes,
that would have been. Yeah, he would have been like
in he would have been like an elementary school at
the time.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
I think, Yeah, I'm just thinking of people from Staten Island.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
Yeah, well there's not many of us. Well there's Wu
Tang Klan and Bobby Toime family. Uh No, but they
went to Curtis. I think it was. I think Rizza
went to Curtis actually, because that's part of one of
his lines. God God took me from where it dropped
me off at Curtis, and that's one of the lines
of their songs. I like, wow, Reza went to Curtis
about I mean, I don't know that he graduated. I
think he transferred schools again, but you know he was

(40:10):
there Curtis for a while.

Speaker 5 (40:12):
How about that some next level stuff you.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
No, No, she was she was a different No, she didn't.
She didn't go to Curtis. Jennifer'sposito also Staton Island went.
She went to Susan Wagner though she didn't go to Curtis.
I'm the second most famous alum from my school. No,
you ready for this. Bobby Thompson shot her around the world.
Curtis High School.

Speaker 3 (40:35):
Colin jos is more famous.

Speaker 1 (40:36):
He didn't go to my high school. He didn't go
to my he didn't go to Curtis. I went to Curtis.
It's Bobby Thompson and then me. That's the way the
Curtis right there. Dude, We're a football dynasty.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
Man.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
I just told you I got a first down by
Malvin off to the officials.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
Man, I don't even rate top one hundred of mind.
I suck.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
We got more NFL on the way, big NFL report
card news and NFL overtime.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
Man?

Speaker 6 (42:10):
Gentlemen, just landed and got to LA. I'm gonna be
doing the little TV the next few days. So you
caught me in a good time. I've been prepping like
mad and so I'm just full full of knowledge. Okay,
let's uncork it all.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
Right, So you're gonna go to a hookah bar with
Luca right after that report today, the Mavericks were upset.
It was too much drinking and too much Houkah that
that that's why they wanted to trade Luka doncic Well.

Speaker 6 (42:37):
I will say this honestly that the from the time
that he was that he entered the draft, if you
look at what he accomplished in Europe, he should have
been the consensus number one pick, no questions asked. And
he's to a certain extent, he's proved that he should

(42:58):
have been that anyway. But one of the reasons that
he wasn't was concerns about his body and about his lifestyle.
That's legit, and that's been going on for quite some time.
And so he has obviously succeeded and exceeded where he
was drafted in spite of all that. But I understand

(43:21):
why the What I don't understand is why the Dallas
Mavers are putting this out there now, Like, you know what,
let it unfold. If if he breaks down, if he
never gets in shape, then then then you can go
ahead and say, yeah, now you know why we didn't.
We didn't re up him. But putting it out now
just feels really defensive, like it's coming off.

Speaker 3 (43:45):
He had a triple double last night.

Speaker 1 (43:47):
Like I think it's easy to say, why are we
coming out with U today, because boy, the trade looks
even worse after he just put up a triple double
against us last night.

Speaker 6 (43:54):
No, yeah, no question. Now, the flip side of it is,
we're going to be really fair. We're going to be
We didn't get to see the MAVs at full strength
with Anthony Davis and Derek Lively and all of that,
and and to be honest with you, that game was
a lot closer than I expected it to be all
things considered, I thought that with it being such a

(44:15):
big game for Luca, the way the Lakers have been
playing of late at home where the Dallas Mavericks are
and being shorthanded, I thought it was going to be
a blood bath, and it was not. Luca obviously continues
to get more comfortable and show what he's capable of.

(44:37):
But if we're going to really measure this, I know
we want to jump into immediately. God, that was an
awful trade. How could they possibly do that? The measure
of this is not going to be this week, or
next month or even ultimately, you know, short of either
the Dallas Mavericks or Lakers winning a championship this year year,

(45:00):
It's not how we're going to measure this trade. It
really comes down to should they have should they have
invested five years and three hundred and forty five million
dollars in Luka Dacic. It's not what he's done, it's
what he's going to do, because that's what prompted them
to make this And let's be clear, what prompted ownership.

Speaker 7 (45:22):
To make this move.

Speaker 6 (45:23):
Yeah, Nico stood up there and he's taken all the
all the arrows. But the reality is he didn't even
latterly go to the Adelson and Dumont and say, hey,
you know what, I really think we need to get
Luca the hell out of here. The way the ownership
came to him. The ownership came to him and said
three hundred and forty five million for five years? What what?

(45:47):
We really don't want to pay him that? What what
could we get? And when Anthony Davis was on the table,
ownership said pull that trigger. So I just I know
where we are in terms of you know, Nico taking
all of the hits and with Anthony Davis on the shelf,

(46:10):
that the and the way the Lakers are playing that
it looks really bad. Now, There's no question about it.
I'm just not gonna jump out there and say right
as of this moment that the Dallas Mavericks made a
crossal mistake, because I know why they made it, and
we'll see whether that was the right bet or not.
Especially I mean, you know, we're gonna talk about Joel Embiid,

(46:32):
We're gonna talk about Dione Williamson, We'll talk about any
number of guys the teams. We can talk about Paul George,
I mean, all of the names that we may eventually
get to. I'll put it like this. The Los Angeles
Clippers decided not to pay Paul George. The Philadelphia seventy
six Ers decided to pay Paul George. Now, I understand

(46:54):
Luca has done way more than Paul George has done.
He's done more than Joel Embiid has done. But do
those teams look at who those guys have been and
regret that they gave them max contracts. That's the decision
that Dallas Mavericks made. They thought, for all Luca has done,

(47:15):
his future looks a lot more like Joel Embis than
it does Steph Curries or Lebron James'. And that's why
they moved on.

Speaker 5 (47:25):
All right, fun with numbers last night spread with seven
and a half final score one seven ninety nine in
Vegas the other What are you.

Speaker 6 (47:35):
What you're saying? What do you think?

Speaker 3 (47:37):
I just smiling? You know, what are you going again?

Speaker 5 (47:41):
Podcast P I'm not doing this anymore? Has a great
game tonight in another loss, two and a half games
behind the Wolfville Chicago Bulls for that tenth slot in
the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (47:52):
Ye can he get serious enough.

Speaker 5 (47:55):
Now to lead them into the back end of the
play in tournament.

Speaker 6 (48:00):
I had no I had no idea. Maybe you guys
can have a better sense of this. I had no
idea that podcasts were that exhausted. I just had no.

Speaker 3 (48:12):
Deep dive research. Rick, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (48:14):
You said you were you were getting into some deep
stuff for TV. Maybe maybe Paul George is learning from
your acumen.

Speaker 3 (48:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (48:22):
Oh my god, it is isn't the cutest thing. I mean?
This is this is really night next level of Lebron
going dark on social media or whatever. Like you know what.
I just I'm really gonna focus now. I'm gonna now
that we've lost eight games, now, now I'm going to

(48:42):
focus in Now I'm gonna make my job a priority before,
you know, yeah, things to do. But man, eight games,
we lost eight games in a row.

Speaker 7 (48:54):
You know what I think it was.

Speaker 6 (48:55):
To give up the I can't even say it was
a strange face.

Speaker 1 (48:59):
I mean, Rick, it's not. It's not just giving up
the podcast. It's him saying, I got to get my
body right.

Speaker 3 (49:05):
It's game sixty. What are you getting in shape? Now?
I would sit sixty games into the season.

Speaker 6 (49:11):
And what's he doing in front of that microphone that
he can't get that is destroying his body?

Speaker 4 (49:20):
What is it?

Speaker 3 (49:21):
You know what?

Speaker 6 (49:22):
I blame Dwight Howard? What is it with guys? Just
Dwight Howard is like like schlep Rock, He's just his
He comes on the podcast, Paul George's podcast, because if
you read a little deeper, if you read a little
deeper into his reasons for giving up the podcast, he's like,
you know what, I just can't be with my regular
guys doing the podcast. And man, and so this one

(49:45):
with Dwight, this is the last one he did a
podcast with Dwight, and he decided, I can't do podcasts anymore.
It's just too much for me. I kind of I'm
gonna have to try to do my job. It's about
it's just you can't make this stuff up. Like, here's
the question that I have. Here's the question that I have.
Who does do these guys when they when they say

(50:06):
things like this, is there somebody in their circle that
they run it by and you do that's a good idea.
I think that'll play right Or do they just who
do they not have a sounding board to say, Hey, Paul,
that doesn't like you can stop doing the podcast or whatever.
But maybe let's not let's just not advertise it. Let's

(50:27):
just let's not just let's just not do it and
if somebody asks, then we'll tell them. But otherwise, this
idea of like, hey, you know, I've been really disappointed
in the season. We've lost eight in a row. I'm
going to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Speaker 1 (50:43):
But rick he announcement no more podcast on the podcast, like, hey,
I want to do it. Yeah, I just want to
let you know on the podcast we're not doing it.
I mean that's I mean, it's it's great, it's great.

Speaker 6 (50:56):
Can make the stuff. You can't make this stuff up. Mom, No,
it's that you say you advertised, you said the best
story in the NBA this year that's not it.

Speaker 1 (51:03):
No, no, this is it because I'm gonna say this
is the best story in the NBA this year, and
you're gonna say you are one hundred percent correct.

Speaker 3 (51:11):
Are you ready? You're ready for this?

Speaker 1 (51:13):
Okay the look wait a minute, now, come on, you're
board with me with the Knicks.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
You were one of those originators.

Speaker 6 (51:19):
Boy, are you're hanging that on your mantle, aren't you?
That is at the top of the trophy case right
there the.

Speaker 3 (51:27):
Day Rick Peter agreed with me.

Speaker 1 (51:29):
Uh, the best story in the NBA this season, without
a doubt.

Speaker 3 (51:34):
The Detroit Pistons.

Speaker 6 (51:36):
Oh not bad, not bad? Yeah, I mean the best story.
I would say, the biggest feel good story.

Speaker 3 (51:46):
Well that's what I mean. That's what I mean.

Speaker 1 (51:47):
The best, the best, not the best team, I mean
the best story in the NBA. Hey, look at what
they've come back from. I mean JB. Bickerstaff should be
a shoe in as Coach of the Year in the NBA.
Their young talented dude without Jade and Ivy.

Speaker 3 (51:59):
Who's still hurt.

Speaker 1 (52:00):
Like they beat them, they boat race the Celtics tonight
by twenty Like this is a great, great story.

Speaker 6 (52:07):
Yeah, yeah, I agree. One thousand percent. And I was
around those guys earlier, earlier in the year, and uh,
and I like everything that they are about. I'm I'm
a huge fan of Kate Cunningham. I love the way
he plays his leadership. I think they've been really deasked
in the pieces that they've they've put around him. I'm

(52:29):
with you, I'm with you one hundred percent. I love this,
I love this story. I love what they put together.
I don't you know, what I really don't understand is
why has Tied Jerome got to be taking shots at JB.
Bickerstaff And is that really smart at this point considering
what Bickerstaff did, Like, I feel like Bickerstaff maybe Tie

(52:50):
doesn't know what the Cleveland Cavaliers were before JB got
there because he transformed them and now he's doing the
same thing in Detroit. And I don't know if you
guys saw the comments, but Ty was and somebody asked him, like,
why the Cabs are having the season that they're having
and and he said, the coaching staff, right.

Speaker 3 (53:12):
That's the biggest thing, was the coaching staff, right.

Speaker 6 (53:15):
And I just and I feel like, you know, what
Kenny Atkinson has done a tremendous job. And sometimes you
have like a Steve Kerr come in and and springboards
off of what Mark Jackson started. And but you got
to kick Mark Jackson to the curve. I mean, he
built the foundation. And I would say that JB has

(53:36):
done the exact same thing. He did the exact same
thing in Cleveland as Mark did with Golden State. I
don't know if Kenny's the guy to take it to
the next level and JB's doing that exact same thing
in Detroit. So and it also just feels good, doesn't
it Like Detroit. I mean, not a whole lot else

(53:56):
going on there. It feels like Detroit is is basketball
royalty that has been on hard really hard times or
seemingly you know, we had that blip when Blake Griffin
kind of swung through there, and other than that, it's
pretty it's been pretty desolate. So I'm with you, I'm
I love what I don't know what it means in

(54:18):
terms of what they're going to do this season, but
I love that they're on the other.

Speaker 1 (54:23):
I told you you'd agree with me, I say, I
told you, and I get to see there you go.

Speaker 3 (54:27):
But it's Detroit battles to come.

Speaker 6 (54:30):
What are we batting to for? What?

Speaker 1 (54:35):
I think it's uh, it's Luca from three point range.
I think we're two for like the last forty seven
or something like.

Speaker 6 (54:41):
Look at look at you, Look at you.

Speaker 1 (54:45):
Yeah, he's on Twitter at Rick Bucker. That is at
Rick Bucker latest on the Ball podcast. But you got
you got a bunch on Jimmy Buckets on the new podcast.

Speaker 6 (54:54):
Yeah, I just uh, it's look. I thought when his
name came up that he made the most sense in
terms of what they needed. But it has made even
more sense now that he's there, because it got me
looking at a couple of things that I hadn't really
paid attention to, one of them being the warriors inability

(55:15):
to get to the free throw line and the inability
to shoot to make free throws. The dead laugh in
free throw percentage, and they were like twenty they're twenty
third now and I can only imagine where they were.
They had to be like twenty six, twenty seventh before
Jimmy got there. Because Jimmy is averaging nine free throws

(55:38):
the game and shooting and making them at a ninety
percent clip. And you know, we don't talk a whole
lot about free throws and what they mean. But with
an older team with three guys in their thirties, that's
like built in rest and foul trouble for the opposing
team and fills a void that the Warriors did not have.

(56:01):
Is also, his ability to finish around the rim and
his willingness to shoot around the rim has added something
that they didn't have with Wiggins. As athletic as Wiggins is,
he was only shooting him. He was only taking about
fourteen percent of his shots at the rim, and Jimmy's
Jimmy's a third more than a third of his shots

(56:21):
are at the rim. So and then there's just the
president and the Swaggers. Like I've been around that team,
and Wiggins is, as you know, quiet as a church mouse,
and Jimmy obviously is not. And he's bought. He's brought
some badly needed bravado to that team. When Jimmy's unhappy,

(56:42):
you do not want Jimmy. But when Jimmy is feeling
good and he's hmmy buckets, then.

Speaker 7 (56:48):
You you've got something.

Speaker 6 (56:49):
And I don't know that it means that the Warriors
are going to contend for a title, but he is
certainly an upgrade, and I would expect. I expect them
to be a playoff team now, and I would not
have said that prior to see me come into town.

Speaker 1 (57:03):
