Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome inside hour three, The Jason Smith Show with
my bes friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Were you out celebrating my big Friday night, My big Friday,
my big Friday night. Why hey, hey, the Bulls won
and Northwestern beat Iowa.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
That's a big Friday night in the Harmon household. When's
the last time that happened? The Bulls won two games
in a week and Northwestern one.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Nineteen seventy three, that's all. Actually Northwestern didn't win.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Oh now wait a minute, what years were Evan Eschemeyer
there the best player you've ever had at Northwestern?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
No, no, we just had boo booie.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Yeah, but Evan Eshem Okay, I's a nick yep Okay,
but I know it didn't happen recently because the bulls stink?
How long ago was Evan Eshermeyer there? Maybe that boom
booe you guys were good?

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, no, boo boo. He was just here. Uh he
just finished at Northwestern of this last year. Eshmeyer was
a second round pick in ninety nine.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Okay, so the end okay, so maybe the end of
the run with Jordan and the early part of Eschemeyer's career.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
There you go. How about that three times ten ninety
seven to ninety nine. So yeah, that that overlap with
the bull Yeah, that's it. That's what I got.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yay, Speaking up basketball, Lakers lead the Clippers right now
eighty seven eighty, about ten minutes to go in the
fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Lakers playing the second night of back to back.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Lebron who it looked like he wasn't even gonna play,
grabbing his hamstring in the final minute of last night's win.
So far, so good. Twenty six points, ten rebounds, three assists.
He leads the Lakers in scoring. He and luc are
the only ones in double digits. The Lakers leaded again
eighty seven eighty with about nine and a half left
to go. But you want a great and I love that,

(02:20):
you know, I don't I think there's some kind of
karma force in the universe that, hey, we give you
good stories on a Friday, Right, because I go back
to the Newsroom, the show with Jeff Daniels. You know,
The Newsroom could have been the best show on television
except Aaron Sorkin decides, Oh, I'm going to recycle all
these West Wing plot lines and make everything really ridiculous.
Like everybody in the newsroom was related to somebody or

(02:41):
knew somebody who.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Was I'm like, come on, man, but he didn't watch
the other one. It was new to you, kind of
like NBC used to have with their reruns.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
No. But the thing is is like there were plot
lines where they tried to fit like when because you know,
Newsroom played off of main plot lines in the world.
They were about eighteen months behind of what big plot
lines were because that's how long it took. You you shoot
a season, you put it on GP like lawn order,
Rip from the headlines. Yeah, yeah, rip from the headlines
of two and a half years ago. So they had

(03:11):
a scene where it was about VP. Right, Remember BP
was a big deal and all the controversies with BP,
and in like that episode, it was Oh, this character's
sister works works in BP. I'm like, oh, okay, that's
kind of interesting. Okay, that's great. And then another one,
one of the one of the characters who worked at
the newsroom their sister was high school classmates, was Casey

(03:34):
Anthony and I'm like, wow, that's convenient, you know, like
come on. And then there's another whereas I'm like, come on,
how are they related? How do they know all these people?
You can't just say, oh, by the way, the person
who works here, how do we get this story into
the show? Oh well, just say they were related or
they knew that person.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Right, Hey, you know who wanted an oscar for similar circumstances,
Tom Hanks Forrest Gump. Let's go, yeah, he didn't know everybody.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
But like this some kind of karma force in the
universe where a lot of good stories, a lot of
fun stories come out on a Friday, and this came
out earlier today. And I know that's being met with
a little bit of skepticism, but I'm telling you, North
Carolina on hard and off season, Hard Knocks for Football
is gonna be tremendous. Okay, it was announced today Hard Knocks.

(04:21):
I'll look, the off season last year was the Giants,
and likely that's why they couldn't get an NFL team
to do it, because that was part of the story.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Today.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Hey, North Carolina, Bill Belichick is gonna be offseason hard knocks,
and no NFL teams wanted to do it, of course.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Not after the Giants.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
After you watch the Giants cry for eight weeks about
losing Saquon Barkley and he goes to the Eagles and
wins the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Like, who's gonna come on and do that.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Who's gonna say, yeah, we we want to be vulnerable,
but not so vulnerable like the Giants.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Every week was we can't lose. This would be so sad.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
I don't want to lose Saqua And then you watch
them go and go to the Eagles and do it.
I mean, it's just it's such an awful look for
the Giants, right. How many times you have to see
that video of Shane and everybody going and mar saying,
I'll tell you I won't sleep at night if say
Quon cos the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Yeah, Joe. Shane was asked at the scouting combine and
he was told no teams said nobody asked him about
the experience being on the show.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Cool.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
I think I know what I would tell them, Yeah,
I don't. Again, it would have given them an extra
win and a half. Maybe.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
At this point, you don't even need to ask, Like
usually it's like, hey, we're thinking about doing it, you
know what. I'll run into Shane at the combine and
I'll see what it's like. At this point, it's yeah, no, no, no,
there's no way we're I don't even need to ask him.
There's no in We're not doing it. We're not doing
We're not gonna look stupid like the Giants did last year.
Like I get that they wanted to have some I
think the Giants what the I think the Giants cooperated

(05:48):
too much, if that seems like it. Because teams like
to be on hard knocks. They like to show you
what's real, but they don't want to show you too
much of what's reet. They don't want to show you
the ins and outs of stuff that could be embarrassing
for the organization. So but they want to show you
the real stuff, just not all of the real stuff.
And I think the Giants got caught with Okay, we're

(06:10):
doing this, but it's off season, how do we make
this interesting? So the cameras were all where, and the
Giants said, okay, yeah, we'll do whatever we want to.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
We'll do it, you know, we'll make it a big deal.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
And they probably oversold the whole thing with Barkley and
and everything they wanted to do in the off season
and Daniel Jones and the season just turned into such
a disaster and they had to wave Daniel Jones in
the middle of the season. And you watch Barkley piling
up a run that saw them take a run at
Eric Dickerson's record. Yeah, the Giants probably they contributed a

(06:39):
little bit too much. But NFL team to seeing that
and going yeah, no thanks. So yeah, of course they
had to go to college.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Right.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
But it's not just about Belichick that that makes us interesting,
because he is going to be fun. I guarantee you're
gonna see more of the Bill Belichick that we saw
the last year on television. Then you're gonna see the
Belichick who didn't want to talk to the media. Right,
it's a different kind of Belichick where he can't get
away with that anymore. Right, Like he used to be
when he was going to the Super Bowl and winning
Super Bowls, Belichick could get away with being as crusty

(07:08):
with the media as he wanted to, and nobody cared.
This is a television show now, and you're gonna see
more of the personality because I think he's in the
IDGAF part of his career. The guy's coaching at college.
What does it really matter, right, what does he really
I have the Super Bowls, I'm going to the Hall
of Fame. What else do you need? Right, I'm here,
I'm in the IDGAF part of my career. I don't care.
So it's gonna be interesting because you're gonna see Belichick.

(07:31):
You're gonna see a different Belichick, but mainly Mike. And
this is what I think of when I think of this,
is that the reason Hard Knocks gets kind of stale
is we've seen so many of the storylines already. Here's
a couple of small college guys who are fighting for
a roster spot. Here's four guys that are fighting for
two roster spots in the defensive backfield. Here's a little

(07:53):
bit of some fun stuff. The star quarterback said, you know,
it's all the same, right, It's become the same. So
it's hard to stay new. But now you're in college
and now there's all kinds of different things that you
can do. You don't need to you know, No, no
one cares about the small plot.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Lie.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
No, you have so many more players, You're dealing with
so many more different things. I think people want to
see what a college football what a big time college
football program looks like, up close and personal over the
course of a whole season, Like that's a real that's
or a preseason whatever, you know, wherever they're going to
be Like, I think people want to see that. Okay,
we've seen what an NFL season is like, we've seen

(08:29):
what preseason is like. Yes, they come to the dorms,
they practice, they do this, they do X, Y and Z,
but we haven't quite seen enough of it in college football.
And it's kind of that sweet spot where movies get
big because they tell you a story about something that
happened in history that you know about, but you don't
know so much about that it's not interesting that you're

(08:50):
learning things like I think it's why the Crown was
such a big deal because people knew Queen Elizabeth and
how long she was reigning for, but nobody knew the
inside stories that they told the first few seasons that
made The Crown incredibly interesting, right, Like Bob Dylan a
complete unknown. People know Bob Dylan, Bob Dylan's career, but hey,
did they know this early part of it and all
this stuff going on? Like if you can tell me
something that I have a working knowledge of, but I

(09:13):
really can get more information on, that's a real sweet
spot in entertainment. And that's kind of where we are
with college football. Hey, here's a big time college football
D one team with a coach with an IDGAF attitude
about everything. So we're gonna get some really good stuff.
We're gonna see what a whole week of college football is. Like,
what are the players doing that are earning their nil money?

(09:34):
Are they going down to some car dealership and signing
autographs and walking away with a check? You know they
are they doing some kind of sham job? Who knows
what it's gonna be. We're gonna get so many things.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Look at you busting out the no show job you
back on the Sopranos again. Hey, I got no show
jobs for you. I mean, we're gonna get these.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
We're gonna get details on many topics that We've always
talked about debate, about have been interest about in college
football that we don't really get to see all that often.
And now we're gonna see it. We're gonna see the nil,
We're gonna see what the transfer portal is like. We're
gonna see what it's like trying to get a guy,
you know, coming in, trying to keep a guy who
wants to leave. Like, we're gonna see these conversations and

(10:16):
it's gonna be something brand new to us. And that's
why this is going to be great television, trust me well.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
And that's the media, the right, the timing, and for
North Carolina to raise their hand to be the guinea pigs.
It is the perfect coach because, look, if it goes wrong,
he's had his career, right, it's the the old yeah, whatever,
do what you got to. I've had my career. I
think I've heard that before somewhere nearby here. Hey, you
gotta listen to the whole show. But all of that,

(10:44):
you know, for for Belichick, it's the yeah, come back,
come in and understand what this world of college football is. Look,
they've had some success, they've had some big players. You
got two quarterbacks that have been drafted high in the
last decade. When you go back to good old Mitchie
Trubisky by the Bears and you look at Drake May,
you've had some success, You've had some names, and even

(11:06):
if you didn't watch week to week, they were on
the radar, right you would look for the final box score.
We watched a lot of North Carolina games, you and
I as we've been teamed together here on the show
for that very reason. Right, they got a little bit
of primetime Thursday, you know, Thursday night football, Friday night football,
that kind of stuff that we were able to pay
attention to it. But it will bring back the curtain

(11:28):
and make people understand the business. The largest of this
with all the players, like you say, it's Brian reinventioned.
The next step for Bill Belichick whatever the involvement in
his personal life, because that's the other part. You could
steal so much of him just going to events with
his girlfriend. I mean, I don't know how much during
Super Bowl week, if you go back and you do

(11:49):
the thirty thousand foot view, how many cameras were on them,
like a hired person that was already you know, getting
some b roll for the future of this since this
has evidently been in the in the works for a
couple of months, so you have that. But you know
you look, you talked about being stale, and that's what
we got from from the pros. Here here's your formulaic approach.

(12:11):
I mean, look at the big announcements being made in
reality TV. The Bachelorette got sidelined. All talks are that
this season of The Bachelor is hands down, five levels
below anything they've done. You know that you've had every
every type of man or a woman on either of
those shows, so you've seen all the personalities, You've seen

(12:33):
all the the arguments and situations that it's just not
fresh anymore. So how do you reboot that? Well, you
did the Golden Bachelor. Did people really want to watch that?
I don't know, maybe they did, maybe they didn't. For
this guy, no, but at.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
That point, just have to re enact season one of
Unreal And this is incredible.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
Tell a great show, fantastic That was a fantastic show.
And look, there's plenty plenty of you know, cut from
real life cases of behind the scene, Like Unreal was
an interesting show. I finally got a chance to burrow
through that after your recommendation. That was one of my
football season ended and you know my inability to sleep.

(13:12):
I powered through that in all of two nights.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
But it got a little campy, right, Yeah, it got
a little too over the top. But that first season
and a half it was. It's one of the best
TV shows the last fifteen years.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
It was so good. Constant Zimmer is phenomenal. That movie
is that, That series was so good. Yeah, that was
that was a win. I found that to be great.
But you know, there's a lot of those stories. If
you want to go watch you know, or listen to
podcasts or watch some documentaries on the making of reality shows,
plenty of that stuff to do. But all of that

(13:44):
is you're trying to reinvent. You're trying to figure out
what's next, right, what's the next iteration of singing competition
or acting competition? All of those things. You know, Bachelor, Bachelorette,
hard Knocks we had all those years. Look at the
two teams they had this last year. The Giants gave
you one thing interesting, and that was the crying over
Saquon Barkley. The Bears gave you nothing. Here's d DJ

(14:07):
Moore's contract and now he and his family celebrated at
an ice cream museum. Oh and here's Matt Eberflus getting
a haircut and a beard trim. That's it. That's what
you got for eight weeks because they wouldn't agreed anything else,
whereas the Giants still had final cut and they still
allowed that Barkley thing to be in there. That's the
bigger that's the bigger bad decision, right. It's not hey,

(14:29):
we couldn't come to terms with Barkley. We may have
termed this badly in terms of go see the marketplace
and then begging him to come and talk to you before.
That was bad, but not saying you know what, that
really shouldn't see the light of day and let it
become some rumor and whisper that this happened. Now, bad
job by them.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Yeah, I mean it's like it's they're like, we created
something that's gonna live forever. But that's good, right, No,
we don't want it to live. We want this to
be forgettable. We wanted nobody to know anything about this,
and now look where we It's.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
The opposite of what Irene Kara was singing about in fame.
We don't want this to live forever. Don't remember this name?
Exit out about a Fresca exit Swallen Dome.

Twitter at Todd Furman, former rods maker at Caesars. Check

(17:31):
him out bet the Board podcast CBS Sports as well
covers it is Todd Furman.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
What's happening, Bud?

Speaker 4 (17:38):
Not a whole heck of a lot on a Friday night, gentlemen.
Hopefully you boys are holding up well, they're in the
lovely studios.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
I mean every time I got you're the only guy
that I can say, Hey, in Vegas, what's happening?

Speaker 3 (17:49):
And you say, not a whole heck of a lot
on a Friday night?

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Right Well on here in Vegas, Smith, if you talk
to somebody my age rapidly approaching forty three versus twenty three,
the Vegas experience much different. So back in the day
when I was wandering to Las Vegas Strip talking games
with you guys, there was a little bit more glitz
and glamour in the mix than me sitting at my
desk trying to grind through hockey numbers for an NHL
Saturday flight.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Well you got, you got twelve goals at the game
you watched yesterday, Todd, I mean, come on, non stop action,
pill her to post.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
I mean, look, the first twenty minutes, I thought my
mom was going to force us to leave when the
Blackhawks were down to five to one, and then they
scrambled to get back in the game, cut it to six'.
Five but you, know being a parent of a goalie
or former, GOALIE i guess they should say at this
point she's more privy to two one type hockey. Games
seven to FIVE i still think makes her feel a
little bit. Uncomfortable and she actually feels bad for goaltenders,

(18:40):
mothers whether they be in attendance or watching at a.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Distance is that what se we?

Speaker 1 (18:44):
Say oh, boy look at all poor poor Poor Connor
hellipook's mom after that goal in The Four Nations.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
CUP i feel so bad for.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
Her that's the whole Thing. Smith it's a very different.
Mentality very few women out there can claim that their
sons were competitors and. Netminders whether it Be sock lacrosse
hockey at a different. Level SO i think they've used
sports through site slightly different. Lens with that being.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
The, case that is a different. Prism, look let's start.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Here you, know combine is in full, force and we're
watching the quarterbacks talk brave about being taken number one
overall And Shadora sanders says he's the. Guy Cam ward,
SAYS i got all kinds of. Tape Abdul carter, Says
i'm the number one. Pick Travis hunter, Says i'm the
number one. Pick right, now you're taking a look at,
things AND i say the number one pick in THE
nfl draft is going to be?

Speaker 3 (19:29):
Who and who do you? Like who Does vegas?

Speaker 4 (19:31):
Like, well if you believe the betting market right, now
Cam ward is the favorite to be the number one
pick in the draft at a price tag just shy
of minus two. Dollars so for those folks not indoctrinated
with some of the gambling lingo right, now you'd have
to put up one dollar and seventy five cents just
to make a dollar coming back on ward to be
the first. Pick Ad Dua, carter the second favorite on
the board with his numbers flipped put up a dollar

(19:53):
when a dollar seventy. Five and that's where things get
interesting With Shador sanders drifting out to ten to, One
Travis hunter eight and a half to, one and then
every everybody else kind of in long shot. Territory, now
saying Cam ward will be the number one pick in
the draft wouldn't shock me at. All but DO i
think it's The Tennessee titans using that number one pick
on the draft to select Cam? Ward that remains to be? Seen, Yes,

(20:13):
oh one of these quarterback hungry organizations going to get
asty trigger finger do everything they can to try and trade.
Up And i'm not sure Cam ward really changes the
fates and fortunes of a franchise In nashville that needs
so many pieces right. Now so it's a very interesting
dynamic as we begin to look, at you, know some
of the options and opportunities that are. There AND i

(20:34):
think it just goes to show The tennessee right, now
only right, around you, know in a little bit north
of a two dollars favorite even hang on to that
top overall.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Pick, now let me ask you that go, Ahead, well
who do you Like?

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Todd, well who do you think is that quarterback hungry
team that most likely tries to get up to number.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
One it's a great question and one That i'm not
sure right now we've seen a true front runner. EMERGE
i can't see The giants doing everything the mortgage to
move up in the draft to take a. Quarterback we
know The jets are itching to get their franchise, quarterback
But i'm not sure either of these guys fits those.
Bill so it's going to be. Interesting you. Know could
we see a scenario where The Cleveland browns, decide, hey,

(21:10):
look we want to move up to number one and
make sure that we can get our. Guy so many
dominoes still the, fall of, course the biggest one that
we saw transpire in the last thirty six hours The
rams electing to re Sign Matthew stafford rather than moving
on and trying to figure out who would be their
man under center for a very young and capable roster
of being AN nfc front runner. Behind you, know The

(21:30):
eagles and a healthier forty Nine.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Ers team enjoy the carousel that'll flow from. Here you
know in the, marketplace do we see any action in
terms of what. Transpires jason's mad and thinking That Aaron
rodgers is going to stay In New, York New.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
Jersey, WELL i, mean, look that could be a silver
lining For. Smith he could point across to the other
locker room At Life stadium and laugh At giants fans
who want to inherit the mess that Is Aaron rodgers
that he had to endure Because smith is the only
PERSON i, know you know that was as excited about
the two years That Aaron rodgers spent with The. Jets
it didn't translate to, victories but it gave him plenty
of storylines to keep them entertained throughout the course of

(22:08):
the calendar.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Year, Hey, todd that's two time defending champions of the
Offseason New York. Jets get you, know THIS nfl calendar
is twelve. Months just because we do bad the six
months with games doesn't mean we don't win the. Offseason
that's just as big as Hoisting Lombardi.

Speaker 4 (22:22):
TROPHY i, mean, look if The lakers can hang a
banner from the rafters of a proud franchise for winning
an nd season, tournament maybe The jets decide that they
want to put a banner up for an f graded
owner In Woody johnson saying that at least if we
don't win games when they matter. Most were happy to
win the offseason and maybe we can go out there
and win a press conference or two going forward as.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
Well take your victories where you, can all, right for
the combine as a, Whole CAN i bet on reps
on the bench press or any of the forties and?
Stuff what's the market looked like for that kind of?

Speaker 4 (22:51):
Stuff you, know a lot of the combine props that
were available a couple of years ago have been taken
off the. Board off shores will still take pretty low limits.
All the one that used to generate the most amount
of buzz was the over under for the fastest time
in the forty yard. Dash that kind of feels like
the one hundred meter gold medal quest in The, olympics
that people want to know who the fastest man will.
Be and if you believe some of the comments from

(23:13):
A texas speedzer In Isaiah, bond he's hell bent on
saying that he can Better Xavier worthy. Time but that's
the one market that was always interesting to try and
see how it got bet some of the movement. There
but you can unfortunately find much in the, way if at,
all of any combine bets in the regulated market these.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Days vegas Insider Todd, furman our Guest Jason, Smith Mike,
harmon live from the tirec Dot com. Studios all, right
so before we get to THE, NBA i want to
say this Because i've already let the cat out of
the bag with a TEAM i think that's going to
win THE ncaa. Title, like no matter, WHAT i am
Picking Saint john's to win it. All like IF i
wanted to get my odds On Rick patino And Cadari,

(23:50):
richmond what kind of odds DO i?

Speaker 3 (23:51):
Get right?

Speaker 4 (23:52):
Now you get the worst price available in the market
that we've seen over the last six to eight. Weeks
johnny's are down as short as twenty two to one
at some, books which puts them kind of in that
second tier with The Iowa, states The Michigan states of the,
world still far Behind Duke, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, houston. Etc
BUT i think a lot of the value has really
been zapped out of the. NUMBER i, mean The johnnies

(24:12):
just a few weeks ago could have been found at
twelve to one to make it to the final. Four
and while you have to love With Rick, patino who's
doing restoring a legacy for a proud program that hasn't
been a top The Big east since the early. Nineties
you do worry about their shooting roes and how those
could potentially rear their ugly head in a quest to
get to Sant antonio or even have a chance to
cut down the. Nets but no doubt a fun team

(24:32):
to watch and one that's going to attract all sorts
of attention and some of That Cinderella. Moniker when we
see the field of sixty eight get announced two weeks From, sunday.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Tod flip into THE. Nba we're watching More luca And
lebron getting to know each other and the long baseball
passes to each other and everything. Else how big is
THE i guess the marketplace FOR nba title. Contenders how
many teams would you say legitimately can make a?

Speaker 4 (25:02):
RUN i, mean WHEN i look at it right, NOW
i think in The east it's a two horse race
between The celtics And. CALVES i think The knicks have
shown that they're nothing more than a pretender at this current.
Juncture and in The, west things get to be things
get to be a little bit more. INTERESTING i, Mean
Oklahoma city with their. DEPTHS i don't think that's something
they can lean into the same way in the playoffs
when you talk about shortening rotations and needing some of

(25:23):
that star power to come up with clutch. Buckets but
from an odds market, STANDPOINT i Mean, denver The, lakers The,
warriors even The grizzlies to some, extent still very much
in the sickest. Things The lakers number continues to shorten
by the.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
Day spoke to a.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
Prominent oddsmaker earlier this. Week that doesn't seem to matter
what number they. Hang people want to bet The, lakers
thinking that The Luca lebron combo is going to be
too much to overcome for some of these, younger more
experience inexperienced, teams and With Golden state's current form, staff of,
course with twelve three's last night against The orlando and
Adding Jimmy, butler people more optimistic about The. Warriors not
quite A cinderella with their, pedigree but a legitimate threat

(25:59):
to win The i'm not going to put them up.
THERE i still think they're in tier. Defense leaves a
lot to be, desired but plenty of star power at
least to go around and hopefully some over valued commodities
for somebody like me to bet against when we get
into these playoffs.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
Series Hey, todd you, know take you away from this
for a.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Second you, know when you see stories that came out
today Like Fresno state athletes are playing fantasy on their own,
stats and you know that becomes a thing obviously that you,
know college basketball is a little bit concerned about it
as we see this sort of college sports sort of
getting into the area of professional gambling that they'd rather

(26:34):
not get. Into is this a big concern for you In?
Vegas is it a small?

Speaker 3 (26:38):
Concern where does it?

Speaker 4 (26:39):
RANK i, MEAN i don't think it's a big concern
if we consider what Are our current president said that
he wants to Pardon Pete rose earlier tonight on social
media for betting on games when he was a member
of The Cincinnati. Red SO i think you're going to
see players now gravitate towards. This but all kidding, aside
when you look at the potential of what's going on,
HERE i think the NCAA's painted themselves in a bit
of a corner where they need to do a much

(27:01):
more effective job educating their players about some of the
pitfalls of legalized sports. Betting The Fresno state situation unlike
any That i've seen when it comes to daily fantasy
and getting involved in some of the apps that are out.
There but this is the world we live in, now
AND i think education is. PARAMOUNT i know a lot
of people will say the pervasiveness of sports betting amongst

(27:21):
college athletes is only growing with. Legalization i'm going to
take the flip side approach and pull a complete one
eighty and, say the only reason that we're seeing these
things get sought out and why there is that paper
trail and we're able to nip this in the butt
is because of, legalization where a lot of these things
would just be taking place and some of the shadows
and people would be none the wiser and some of
the point shaving scandals we've seen in the, past legalization

(27:44):
comes in handy, there and this is the way we
can create. Transparency it was the way that they got
to the bottom of The Arizona state point shaving scandal
With Benny filman and. Company and there are a lot
of other good that can come out of these. Situations
but THE ncaa and the member institutions have to do
a better job of educating their players of the potential,
pitfalls the risks they're, taking and everything that's going to

(28:04):
be in front of them in the new landscape we
look at.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
LEGALIZATION i think you should give that. SPEECH i think
they should fly to. YOU i think that's all the
speech you need right. THERE i forget about what teams could.
Do you could do that right there in like thirty five.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
SECONDS i, mean, Look i've spoken to leagues in the, past,
GENTLEMEN i had an opportunity to speak in front Of
State congress In california about, legalization which appears to be
headed towards legalization maybe in twenty fifty six if you're
lucky with some of the obstacles. There but you, know
these are the kind of stories that have to be.
Told the players have to be introduced to. It we

(28:38):
can't pretend that this stuff doesn't. Exist and by talking
to people in and around the integrity, field they are
those of us that have made numbers and understand how
this stuff. Works that's how education breaks down, barriers AND
i think it's something That i'd like to see not
only at the collegiate, level but also amongst professional athletes
as well as they try and figure out ways to
insulate their players from some of the situations we've seen,

(28:59):
unfold most not in THE, nfl with players betting from
the team, facility or the unfortunate situation Of Calvin ridley
even playing parlays on a legalized app when he was
recaving an injury that had him sidelined as a member
of The Jacksonville.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
Jaguars OR i could just.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
SEE i could just see at the end and they, go,
wow Mister, ferman that was great. Stuff anything in, Closing,
yeah don't bet on The, jets all, Right, thanks see
you guys.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
Later, Wow, hey, hey.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
Look what you.

Speaker 4 (29:25):
Know oftentimes he points britt as the great equalizer and
one man's garbage is another man's. Gold, unfortunately there was
a hell of a lot more garbage in the swamps
Of New jersey this year from The jets And giants
from AN ats perspective than we'd like to. See as
a sports better going.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
Forward there he.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
Is check him out On twitter At Todd, Ferman that
is At Todd furman bet The board.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Podcast hear at seab ON cbs as. Well also it
Covers todd as always, buddy thanks so. Much have a
great week. Man we'll talk to you always a pleasure.
Agains have a great. Weekend be good. Brother.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
YEAH i thought about that a lot today WHEN i
saw That Fresno state. Sar i'm, like oh my, god
guys playing fantasy on their Own stack's, like, okay didn't
see that.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Coming you, KNOW i. CAN'T i can't say on My
bengo card all the different legs and extensions to it.
All todd's been going back and forth with folks on
His twitter account At Todd fermanagh on the the old.
Transparency the positive side of this is that it's not
being done in the back, rooms you, know like the
old parlay guards of our youth smith right of you

(30:27):
know you're filling them out in the back of a
bar OR vfw. Hall, no all of this is on
apps and it's transparency in terms of you know who's
making the bets and from where and how and why
and everything else that helps to police. It but you,
know it doesn't mean that you're not going to see
a bunch of folks get in trouble in the. Process but,
yeah the education of it all is certainly. Huge but,

(30:49):
yeah The Fantasy angle also made fantasy college. Buckets, Baby
let's Go exit out about A fresca exit.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
Swollen down The Jason Smith stow With Mike Carbon live

thing where if there's a zombie apocalypse where we're.

lakers beat The clippers one oh six to one oh.
Two Luka donci's thirty one Points Lebron james with twenty.
Eight Starter Austin reeves of The lakers left early with
the sore. Calf lakers have won five in a. Row

(32:03):
they're up to thirty seven and twenty. One chicago came

toronto won twenty five one, Fifteen phoenix And miami with
home Wins utah as. Well The Jazz Edge minnesota won,
seventeen won sixteen As Anthony edwards Of minnesota was out

the tirek Dot com Vis coming up. Next tonight was
a huge night in THE nba where really you saw
a lot of contenders for THE nba title and a
lot of. Pretenders coming up, next we'll give you the
top two tiers of contenders in THE, nba the three
teams that can win THE nba title and the next

(34:18):
four who are really further behind than you. Think that's
coming up, next right, Here jason And. Mike Fox Sports.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Radio be sure to catch live editions Of The Jason
Smith show With Mike harmon weekdays at ten Pm, eastern
seven Pm, Pacific Fox Sports.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Radio The Jason Smith show with my best Friend Mike. Harmon,
Yeah live from the Tire rack Dot Com, studios where
we just watched The lakers overcome The clippers one oh,
six one oh. Two The lakers win back to back.
Games lebron plays after looking like he dinged up his

(34:59):
hamstring the end of the win last. Night, nope everything
was fine, Tonight, yeah, Stretch, yeah but maybe that's a.
Thing Now NOW i need the nightly grimace From. Lebron
he's taking over For, ad where once a GAME ad looked,
like oh my, goodness he's gonna be out for eight.
Months oh, no, no, no He's i'm, sorry he's back
in the. Game, uh he's got twenty eight and. Thirteen

(35:21):
luca goes for thirty one in the game and hit
a couple more threes, tonight so a little bit. Better
the only thing lacking from him really so far has
been his three point.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
Shooting he hit.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Won three that gave them a seven point lead in
the fourth, quarter Where i'm pretty sure he was already
turned and running back down court before the ball went
through the.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
Net, yeah you're.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Right you could tell he's starting to feel like he
shoots a he hits a big, three And i'm pretty, said,
oh he's not even facing the, net he's running back
down court like that. Was that was Where luca was
in the fourth quarter of his. Game because that's the
only thing that that's been missing for. Him because everything
has been. Good his minutes have been, good his stamina
has been, good played thirty five minutes. Tonight the only
thing has been is three point shooting and at least

(36:03):
a little bit better tonight going three for.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
Nine, yeah as we look at it, overall, right trying
to get that shot selection and get it more. Consistently
certainly he's had his big highlight real. Moments we've had
one of, those and in terms of his shot making night,
Tonight i'm looking at it from the defensive side of things.
Though of the one stat line in particular twenty seven

(36:25):
and sixteen thirteen to fifteen from the field For, zubac
that is a that is just the, harbinger the warning
the old man on the, porch don't go in there
of things to. Come in terms of, guys how you're
gonna have to figure out defensively how you handle such.
Things but another, win as we always, say it doesn't

(36:47):
have to be, pretty just close late and hopefully if
you're rooting for The, lakers you got the result you
wanted as they take the. Win in the first of
these matchups against The, clippers surprising stat line Of lebron
only got three free throw. Attempts that one's the raise
the hand and go back and watch tapes, like, ah

(37:09):
you didn't get those, Calls but twelve to twenty one
from the field getting it done. Here some decent contributions
from the, bench nothing overworldly or, outworldly but everybody not
Named lebron And luca has a composite did shoot fifty
percent from the. Field so you'll take that victory. Today
big win for The, lakers, right big win for The.
Knicks Nicks grizzlies was a big game. Tonight ogianunobi hits

(37:31):
a huge three with four seconds, left LIKE i was really.
Excited but the marquee game of the night was The
celtics and The. Caves and The celtics led this game
twenty five to, three and The cavaliers come from behind
to win because Apparently Jason tatum scoring ninety eight points
with forty eight rebounds wasn't. Enough forty one For Donovan

(37:53):
mitchell does it for The. Cavs and, yes The celtics
were playing without two, Starters so, yeah you, know you
take this for what it's. Worth but you, know this
is the, thing is What i've come to over the
past couple of, weeks you, know since the trade, deadline
seeing what we're at, now there's really three teams that
can win THE nba title right, now and that's The,
cavaliers The, celtics and The thunder because they are more

(38:15):
complete than any other wanna be contender in THE. Nba
right you watch them, playing you, know watching this game,
Tonight i'm just saying to, myself you, know going back
and watching The, knicks AND i just, said even without their,
starters these two teams are playing at a higher. Level
and The thunder are that good as. Well and so
when you want to break it, down, yeah all these
other you, know other teams have gotten really good and

(38:37):
and and they're they you, know they're want to be,
contenders but they're not the complete teams that these three. Are,
right The knicks have the best starting five in THE.
Nba The lakers may wind up having the best starting
five in THE nba as long As Austin reeves is
okay he left tonight's game with an. Injury but they
don't quite have that.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Depth they don't quite have that togetherness that top to,
bottom we are solid everywhere that these three teams. Do
SO i would tell you right, now, look there's three
teams that can. Win The cavaliers Of, celtics The, thunder
and then the next, level which is a little bit far,
below like that second tier of contenders Is, Nicks, Nuggets, Grizzlies,
Lakers like that's that next level or those four, teams

(39:16):
but they are far behind these other three.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
Teams, no and that certainly bears out in the odds
as you go through, it, right you look right Now
celtics plus two hundred thunder right behind them at plus two,
ten The calves at plus six, fifty and then you
get down to twelve to one for The nuggets and
you start drifting out even further from there thirteen to.
One The, lakers you, know As Todd furman at bet

(39:41):
The board pod just laid out with us From, vegas,
like no matter what line they put on The lakers
people are just fired up at this, point, Right and
another win tonight against a pretty Good clippers. Team clippers
are sixty six to, one but a pretty Good clippers
team that had some juice coming into the. Season you
know the old if this is healthy in ads. Whatever

(40:02):
but you're rolling. Through so you got The lakers at
plus at thirteen to, one nixont eighteen to, one that
are tied with The. Warriors warriors getting some really big
money coming in these last week and a. Half two,
weeks and then you get to The, grizzlies The, bucks The,
Clippers MAVs.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
All at forty to one or more exit out by
To fresca exit swallen, DOWN i, mean and there's still
some time to. Go some teams are trying to get,
healthy sometimes figuring, out teams figuring out their.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
Rotation lots of things going. On but there is a marked.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
Difference and these are really good, teams, Right, Nuggets, Grizzlies lakers.
Next none of these teams can do what The, Celtics
calves And thunder can. Do they're just at a different.
Level so, yeah it's a bit of a bit of
a space between That tier one and tier. Two Jason
Smith Mike harmon live from THE tirec Dot Com. Studios
coming up, Next the biggest quarterback story of the offseason

(40:55):
saw its decision happen.

Speaker 3 (40:57):
Today we break it.

Speaker 1 (40:59):
Down coming up ex right, Here jason And Mike Fox Sports,
