Going into this weekend, I didn't I didn't think we'd
get this big of an NFL story on a fraud.
But the New York Giants, we need to thank them.
(01:05):
The biggest quarterback storyline of the offseason ended today because
we got a decision on what's gonna happen with Matthew Stafford.
Because he was at the forefront of everything, everything of
teams we're gonna try to do this offseason at quarterback.
It's not a great free agent cropper quarterbacks. It's not
a great crop of quarterbacks. In the NFL draft. Everything
(01:27):
was dictated by what happened to Matthew Stafford. He stays
with the Rams, other teams then change their focus to
Sam Darnold other players. If he goes to a different team,
suddenly that opens up the Rams for a quarterback different team.
This was the biggest domino because Matthew Stafford's the best
quarterback on the board for the next two years in
(01:47):
the NFL. Right, let's just say that, because clearly, how
long do you get if you're a quarterback and you
can't play, well, let's say you get two years for
the next two years. The number one name on anybody's
board this offseason is matt Matthew Stafford. Right, the guy
is still playing at that kind of level. And granted,
if I was the Rams, I want him to play
at this level a little bit earlier in the season
(02:08):
so you're not maybe playing that NFC time, you know,
big game on the road and want to play at
home instead of Philadelphia. But Matthew Stafford still at that
level right. You want him for the next two years
more than you want Sam Darnold. You want him more
than you want for the next two years, more than
Shador Sanders or cam Ward. He was the decision and
after the Giants, and shockingly the Giants said, we'll pony
(02:31):
up somewhere in the vicinity of a two year, one
hundred million dollarish contract for Matthew Stafford. Matthew Stafford did
what we told you he was going to do last night.
He was going to go back to the Los Angeles Rams.
Because for all of the bluster, and this was a
lot of bluster, right, it was Stafford grabbing a hold
of all the spotlight in the in the beginning part
(02:53):
of the offseason. I don't know if I want to
play Wait a bite, you want to retire? Oh no, wait,
it's about money. Only getting twenty five million next year,
not nearly not nearly paid what he could. The Rams
are kind of upset. They went through this with him
again in the offseason. So there's a lot of posturing.
But we told you last night. In the end, he's
gonna go back to the Rams. Why not because there
weren't gonna be any teams that wanted to offer him
(03:15):
that kind of money, but Stafford wants to win. He's
not gonna go spend the next two years of his
career playing for some team that thinks they're a contender
but are terrible. There is only one team that you
could say, coming off this season, are they a quarterback
away from the Super Bowl? Being a super Bowl contender?
And that's the Steelers. And the Steelers aren't given anybody
fifty million dollars a year. They would they want to,
(03:37):
they would. They want to find their quarterback in the
clearance rack, you know.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
They they want to. They want to go to.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Target and walk in and go, I'm gonna go all
the way to the back where all the the whole
health and beauty aids are and get the little one
dollar thing of shampoo and the little one dollar thing
of Razors, well one dollar thing of of shaving cream.
Like that's where the Steelers want to go for their quarterback.
So that wasn't happening. But yeah, a team like the
Giants that say we really need quarterback, Yeah, of course
of course they're gonna say, yeah, here's here's one hundred million.
(04:03):
But Stafford's gonna go why would I go there. I
really maybe only have a couple of years left. And
while I want more money, I want to win as well.
And this is one of those rare cases, Mike, where
the right thing happened for everybody positivity. Friday he needed
to go back to the Rams because that was his
best chance to win and finish his legacy, and the
Rams needed to keep him because, yeah, you could potentially
(04:26):
turn the page and go to another quarterback, but that
is Sam Darnold or Aaron Rodgers gonna be good for you,
like Matthew Stafford is, You're really taking a huge risk.
They needed Matthew Stafford back. It makes sense for both sides,
and it happened, and the biggest domino of the NFL
season as far as quarterbacks go in the off season,
has now fallen Stafford's back with the Rams.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Yeah, I mean the devil, you know, the devil you don't, right,
the Sean McVay quote that we've brought up a couple
of times of hey, we're not going like we did
last offseason where things were disjointed and then some injury
issues really set them back that early first quarter plus
of the season. You lost a couple of games that
you just you're not making up the ground. You know,
(05:10):
folks laugh about September. It's like, oh, you're rounding in shape.
You still got to win games, right, win ugly and
figure out how to you know, get your team better
and more in sync and so the points flow on
the board and everything later.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
But like that was the thing with New England and everybody.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Oh you know they felt their way in September, right,
but they still won the games. It wasn't hey, you
know what, they're gonna round out and boy they were
really great in November and December, but they started one
in five so they were screwed. No, they were still
four and one, five and one. Even if it was
you know, close margin to victory here's Vinitari or whatever,
Goskowski or whomever, that you still were taking care of
(05:50):
business here. For the Rams, they weren't able to do
that and overcome some of the lack of cohesion early
on and to lose players due to injury. Weren't able
to overcome those things. For Matthew Stafford looked, the numbers
weren't overwhelming, but when it came down to the stretch run,
he was playing great football. We saw what he could
do in the playoffs, and you're looking behind door number two.
(06:14):
If you're the Rams, and look, this is where you
use all the good folks in the insider business. Maybe
this is why they didn't fight. They started getting texts
about all this. I hear a rumor they're about to rumble. Hey,
send them the thing about with how much we love Garoppolo.
You you over there, you're just sitting there. IDL Send
the other guy the thing about.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Rogers and I'll over there. I'll meet you at Starbucks
and we'll see how this goes.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Unnamed Insider number three, you tell people how much we
love Sam Donald and how we've already worked out how
this is all gonna work with him. I mean, that's
what we did, right. We played that game for the
last couple of weeks. All those reports. Oh they love
Sam Dnald, Oh they do this. Hey, they can switch
and pivot over to Aaron Rodgers and they won't lose much.
(06:59):
Like I don't know, they've had Matthew Stafford, who's been
there a couple of years.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
He hoisted up that hunk a medal that they give
out in the NFL. All of those things to say
he had no shortage of suitors, Like we only know
of the Giants and the Raiders because they're in obvious
need of quarterbacks. How many other teams were kicking the
tires because they don't love their quarterback situation that we
(07:26):
may never hear of, right, trying to figure out in
their cap space and assets that they have, could they
legitimately make a run and talk to Snead McVeigh and
the collective there to make this happen. But yeah, it's
the first domino of the fall, and it's the right
one for Matthew Stafford. You know, we do the legacy
(07:46):
thing in the media world and try to talk about, well,
what would another win and where would it place him
and where does he rank whatever. Remember when he was
in Detroit and he was being bashed by all sorts
of hot take nonsense artists. He was your quarterback's favorite
quarterback for years. Yeah, yeah, Rogers didn't say anything, but
he always loved him.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Yeah, everybody does, like it's amazing with who is your
favorite Matthew Stafford? Oh man, Matthew Stafford to a man, right,
had a year or two where matt Ryan got that love.
But Matthew Stafford would always be the guys like, yeah,
I'd put down the tablet or the pages to watch
him work kind of thing.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
And I love the way he throws and all of that.
So to come to the Rams and get an opportunity
with that squad to get over against the Bengals in
the one shining moment kind of situation.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Well, he's looking at it all right. He's made a
lot of money.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Right, other than Kirk Cousins, he's in that top five
all time list of guys with the business acumen and
who stacked his chips, right, Dude, I don't know they
like the joker.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
I think when it's and we don't know what kind
of money he got for for this, Like I mean,
clearly it's a you know, we don't know exactly how
much money he got because it was you know, do
the Rams want to say, yeah, we gave in and
gave him another fifty million.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Dollars, right, or did they say, hey, we figured out
you know, another fifteen million or something like that.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
But like, I don't know, if it's all said and
done when he finishes his career, if he's not gonna
be the highest played payer when a highest paid player
when it comes to salary in the history of the NFL,
because remember he got he got three Mega contracts, right
three he got he was one of the last guys
to get him before they changed the rules, and he
(09:32):
got another one midway through with Detroit. Then he got another.
I mean he I don't I really, I think his
all time earnings when it's all I again, we don't
know what these last two years are gonna be, like
is he adding another one hundred million to it or not?
But I really think he might be the number one
earner all time in the history of the NFL.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Well, they've got an aspenate estimate over at SPO Track.
I mean, I think that was the old money, so
we'll see what that becomes. But they estimated he's already
earned three hundred and six four million dollars.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
I think it's more than that. Wow, that's I think.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
Well that's before whatever this next is, right, that's before taxes.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
That's before taxes. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
But by the way, I mean you look at the
large scale cash, so yes, cash is a consideration, but
there's also the You've had your health issues well documented.
Everybody's told you how hurt Matthew's been the end of
the last couple of seasons and in season if he
has an off game. Unlike the Kirk Cousins thing of
I'm fine. No, I really was hurt and I was
(10:33):
really terrible for a six week stretch, but I played
injured and I didn't tell anybody, and I gutted it
through practices, so they didn't know. Like I think they're
all being very disingenuous in this process, like they are
a bunch of liars.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
All news to me. I didn't know this. Okay, great,
how about that? Wow? Yeah, literally, your GM and coach
are going. I had no idea. I mean, we just
thought he was struggling.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
But either way, for Stafford, there's the Giants and and
the Raiders again were the obvious ones. Then you start
looking around the league, whether it's Indianapolis with what they
said about Richardson or or some of these other places,
some you know Tennessee, uh that that will probably draft
their next guy. Uh, we presume at the end of April.
(11:17):
But all of that, you're you're looking around going all right,
on the the grand scale of the NFL and its history,
if we can get another title here with the team.
We have great young defense, need to figure out the
receiving corps behind Nakua. Kyen Williams has been fantastic. He
added Blake Korham that you you've got personnel to go
(11:40):
and compete.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
Right.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
We talked about the division the last couple of nights
talking about this, that you've got a path right back
into the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Second super Bowl. Look at all the guys he passes.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
Rogers, Favra. I mean we already know. Uh, Marino never
got one. And again Marino always the godfather that everybody loves, Like, oh,
it's just too bad he could win.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
It's like, well, we've got to decide where we're putting
our chips. Right.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
We always talk about super Bowls, except when it comes
to him. Everybody it's how many did you win? How
many did you get to play it? With Marina, It's like, oh,
I got to one, and that's too bad. He's still
one of the three greatest quarterbacks I ever saw. It's
like it's like wait, what, Like why do we do that?
Why does he get accepted from everything?
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Look, and let's be honest, going into next season, regardless
of conference affiliation, Okay, regardless of conference affiliation.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
The Eagle should be the favorites.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
To win the Super Bowl again, I mean, especially if
they wind up getting Miles Garrett, which yeah, a little bit,
is my goodness.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
But the number two.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Team should be the Rams, all right, if you're going
by by where these teams are regular season into the playoffs,
the number two team should be the Rams. And this
wasn't even a great Rams team. This is a Rams
team that still is a couple of pieces away, maybe
a DeVante Adams or or someone from Hey, now we're
really gonna start kicking some ass like this was a
(13:03):
like kind of a reboot on the fly Rams team
like they've done the last few years, and they still
should have wound up beating the Eagles. Like I go,
I go into next year, and I would say, okay,
your favorite should be Eagles and the Rams right under them,
because they should have won. They should have won on
the road, you know, a warm weather team should have
been in Philadelphia on the road winning that game. A
couple of mistakes they made late and and really it
(13:24):
should have been the Rams and they're that close, and
that tells you that how.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Big a deal this was.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Keeping Matthew Stafford where the NFC saw this and probably said, oh, man,
if they lose Stafford, they might try to make it
work with Sam Darnold. Yeah, good luck there, I can't ah, crap,
they kept Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
No, man, all right, and hey, the AFC is rejoicing.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
They're going, oh, I don't got to worry about Matthew
Stafford showing up here anywhere else, or Okay, that's awesome. Well,
everybody really wanted to see him go to a team
like the Giants. But what do I care? The Giants stink?
All right, Fine, he's not gonna do anything. That's great,
Go to the Giants, go to the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
Yeah that's kind. I don't care.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
But like you know, now that the fact that he's
staying back, it's one of those Oh great, now the
Rams are gonna be that good again next season, Like
this was a huge w.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
I'll tell you you can run to the sportsbook right now.
I'm looking at odds currently, I'm up on FanDuel. They
are tied for the tenth shortest odds with the Minnesota
Vikings at plus twenty eight hundred. Chiefs are the favorite.
Eagles are tied with them plus six fifty for both
of them, Bills and Ravens at plus seven fifty, the
(14:32):
Lions plus nine fifty. The forty nine Ers are still
there twelve to one, the Bengals at eighteen to one,
the Packers at twenty one to one, Commanders at twenty three,
and then the Vikings and Rams coming in at twenty
eight to one.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
I'll tell you, give me the Rams futures right now, man,
give me the Rams futures right now. One hundred percent
exit out about a Fresca exit swallowing down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon. We got
more NFL on the way coming up next. So the
Giants didn't get Matthew Stafford. Nope, wait till we tell
(15:08):
you where reports are who the Giants may go get
to be their next quarterback? Y A tittle, that's it
could be Frank Gifford. That's coming up next right here,
Jason Fox Sports Radio.

all the big trades that may happen in the NFL,
all the big moves that happened in the NFL, all
our NBA breakdown.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Get it all at our podcast.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
So we will have a couple of fun trades that
are being talked about in the NFL to get to
coming up in a few minutes.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
But again, something that falls.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Into the category of you can laugh at me and
I can't believe I got to do this and go
through this, but it'll be entertaining for everybody else. So
we talked about Matthew Stafford a few minutes ago and
how the you know he agreed to stay with the
Rams after his gauntlet throwing down the the hammer of
I need more money if I want to stay, and
(16:46):
in the end he winds up staying. According to reports,
the Giants were the team that really pushed this across
the finish line, because New York Post says that, hey,
the Giants potentially had a two year, one hundred ish
million dollar offer on the table for Stafford, which is
who Okay, hang on a second, but now the Giants
aren't getting it.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
According to Adam Schefter, the Giants are going to.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Pivot, potentially move to bringing in as their quarterback for
next season Aaron Rodgers, which I know it seems great
for me. Jason, Oh, Ken, you're gonna watch Aaron Rodgers
just across town. Oh, it's gonna be No, He's gonna
(17:35):
go to the Giants and he's gonna be great. Because
that's how it works, right, That's how I can't just
watch him like Sam Darnold go and just go to
you know, somewhere far off the the NFL map that
I he goes to Carolina and even Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
Yeah, great, Minnesota, what do I care? Minnesota?
Speaker 4 (17:53):
No?
Speaker 3 (17:53):
No, no, no, Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
You know he's gonna wind up with the Giants because
you know, he's gonna go. He wants to go anywhere
where someone's gonna have him. He likes New York, he
likes the spotlight. He'll get to keep the spotlight with
the Giants, and he's gonna be good. Why because, of course,
when you leave the Jets, you're good. And I can
see him leading some ragtag run to the wild Card because,
(18:17):
let's face the I'm realistic. He's not gonna win the division.
The Commanders and the Eagles are too good. But I
could see this five hundred ish run where suddenly, hey,
he looks healthier than he's been in years. And I
keep hearing after every week, Aaron Rodgers saying, I wish
I was as healthy with the Jets.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
I felt great. I wish I was.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
I feel bad. I enjoyed my time there. And you're
gonna see experts saying it looked like it looks like
him and Elik Neighbors have been playing together for years.
Look at these guys, they're fantastic. It looks like Sutton
and young Blood have been playing together for years. Oh,
Thelak Neighbors has one hundred and forty two catches so
far through nine weeks. Look at this is amazing, and
Roger's gonna play great, and suddenly it's gonna get Joe
(18:59):
Shane an extension and Brian Dable's gonna get an extension
and things are gonna be fantastic and all the Giants
weapons are gonna be picked up in fantasy. Oh, I
can't wait to see what Tyrone Tracy does this week.
He caught six passes out of the backfield last week
and ran for seventy five yards. I just know what's
gonna happen, and I've already come to grips with it,
so I'm okay. But trust me, if Aaron Rodgers goes
(19:20):
to the Giants, it's gonna be great because that's how
it goes for the Jets.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
No other reason.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
If he was leaving a different team and went to
the Giants, he would stake it's done. It would be over,
forget it, walk away. This is awful your entire week eight. No, no, no,
But because it's from the Jets to the Giants, he's
gonna be fantastic and we're gonna have another season of
Aaron Rodgers on Pat McAfee and talking about things and
talking about the NFC East and gonna be on television
(19:46):
every week all the big game against the Commanders on Sunday.
Next Sunday, it's Aaron Rodgers and the Philadelphia Eagles, Aaron
Rodgers and the Cowboys. Aaron Rodger that, and We're gonna
get this entire bleeping thing. And I'm gonna have to
watch it from across town because that's how it goes.
He's gonna be really good. And I'm gonna watch the
Giants go into week seventeen and Week eighteen. It's gonna
(20:07):
be Oh, the Giants of the story of the NFL.
Can they win? They can clinch a playoff berth with
a win. Here, I know what's gonna happen, Mike, It's
gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
Yeah, I know. It's really vexing you on a whole
other level. Yes, it is. It is. It's a vexer. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
I mean, I'll give you a little bit of a
comfort in this because there's been a lot of talk about, hey,
look at the numbers down the stretch. You know, there's
a lot of noise there. Bad Miami squad to close
things out. Yeah, and they were fighting to be the
one game above five hundred.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Yeah. Great. They finished eight and nine.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Three touchdown performance against the Jaguars. Really, we're gonna hang
our hat on that one as one of the big
go to moments. They scored nine points against the Rams.
Down the stretch, they scored fourteen getting blown out by Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
So yes, some of it was cosmetic. And you look
at it.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
And I've heard the and seen certainly these stat comparisons
of hey, look what he finished against Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
Or this guy or the other guy.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
Like those guys won games, right, I mean, how many
years have we been doing fantasy football.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
You got a lot of guys that put up some really.
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Good end of year box scorers, and most of the
time their teams were trash and it was fourth quarter.
Just keep chucking and we get there and you can
get some you know, I look at the great Blake Bortles,
immortalized forever in the good place, all right, as we
talk about, you know how much he appeared time and
(21:39):
time again, references to his exploits in Jacksonville. But all
of that to say, yeah, this seems inevitable. They'll take
the shot. Think of another year removed from the injury,
big name, big splash, doesn't preclude them from going into
the draft. There's plenty of these guys that are Day two,
day three potential prospects out there. Meanwhile, you're fortifying your
(22:03):
roster with the other draft choices that you have. So
you know, especially at number three, go find another lineman.
As long as you keep Thomas up right, you at
least have an anchor on your offensive line that you
can build. We talked about Tracy who who had a
pretty good year. He's not the explosiveness of Saquon Barkley,
but certainly acquitted himself well. Malik Neighbors proved he can
(22:26):
catch passes from anybody in the known universe with what
they were thrown out there at QBS. So that works.
So and the defense went healthy, was pretty strong, and
they showed up at times and played pretty hard. So
does that translate to a bunch of wins. No, But
we're selling hope here as we close out of February.
(22:48):
Positivity on a Friday for the Giants fans, for you,
and not so much that you.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Was talking about. Positivity for you, you not so much. That's
what you had been great, didn't it bed But you
not so much.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
You not so much because you know, long on standing
tenant of the show is the Jets. Can't have nice
things though, But you know, ex Jet now good and
that would be the two years of being the greatest
tourists that New York, New Jersey has ever seen.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Staying in the area, playing for the Giants and suddenly
making them at least moderately successful would be the worst
of all scenarios. But it seems predestined to happen.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Of course, of course it's gonna happen because it's the Jets.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
It's the Jet again, any of the he could be
coming from the Colts or the Broncos or it doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
No, he's everything to watch. How good he's gonna be
a leak.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Leaked audio of how much they how much conversation he
had with snead or McVeigh or is that conveniently never
discussed again?
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Oh yeah, you know that.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
That's like the video of Jordan's al and Ian rappidport
at Star But we're just there just to get one
still zoom call.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Yeah, just not gonna get it.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Uh yeah, Look, we'll get to that story coming up
in a few hos because now there actually is a
picture of the potent of the conflict that happened with
Jordan Schultzenean Rappaport at the combine.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Uh. But first, before.
Speaker 1 (24:19):

been floating around, Let's find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports. But guys been called the Aaron
Rodgers of Fox Sports Radio don't do that by day.
Speaker 3 (24:31):

bunch of friends in a in a room like that,
you've runded out like a rec room and you're going, okay,
So here's where the aliens we expect to see them,
and your pointing, you're smoking jacket for.
Speaker 5 (24:55):
Starters, the lights would be on.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Let's get to the NBA and.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
Steve, do we know did Garrett Cole cover first in
any plays to the infield?
Speaker 3 (25:26):
Did that happened? No?
Speaker 5 (25:27):
But he felt like playing center and actually catching the ball.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
So okay, all right, very good. Okay.
Speaker 5 (25:32):
There was the Joe l Embiid news that we feared
was coming. He will miss the rest of the NBA
season due to his bad knee. He's been de medically
unable to play. Saturday. Philadelphia losers of nine straight. We'll
host Golden State, which is won five in a row.

The Nuggets got another triple double from Nikola jokicchen ended
Detroit's eight game winning streak one thirty four to one nineteen,

comeback down twenty five to three after five minutes, they
still won. At Boston won twenty three to one sixteen.
Donovan Mitchell scored forty one points in the loss. Jason
Tatum had forty six points, sixteen rebounds and nine assists.
Jalen Brown thirty seven points in defeat, but Boston's record

this Sunday. From the road Course in Austin, Texas, back
to you.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Thank you, Steve O, the Jason smithser with Mike Carmon
lifrom thetirec dot Com Studios. Now let's get to the
latest trade rumors in the NFL have been reported today,
and boy are they fun. A couple of insiders and
beat reporters with the Packers and the Seahawks have thrown
(28:01):
out there that potentially the teams are working on a
trade involving DK Metcalf. Now we haven't heard a lot
about this, and there's been some discrepancy as to how
far along things are. But what's been thrown out there
is that there's a deal on the table between the
Packers and the Seahawks that could see Dk Metcalf go
to the Packers in exchange for a first round pick
(28:24):
and maybe a young wide receiver like a Romeo Dubs
or Dontavian Wicks.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Now, while we're waiting to see.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Exactly what this is and exactly how this goes, if
this trade is available.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
If this is I do this in a second.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
If on both teams again, positivity Friday, this is one
of those things that both teams need, right, because the
Packers as good as Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
Is, right, and he had a bit of a step back.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
This year a little bit. He needs a number one receiver.
You need somebody to go to on third and ten.
You need somebody to go to the in the red zone.
And while you have a nice collection of good receivers,
whether it's Watson or Wix or Dubs, like you have
a nice collection of young guys that you can throw
the football.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Too, you need that number one.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
And DK Metcalf is twenty seven, he's physical, He's that guy. Right,
it makes sense for the Packers. Well, why are the
Seahawks move on for him? Then, well, you could potentially
get a first round pick and a young receiver. Considering
you have a lot of issues right, you talked about
it earlier. You know, there's a lot of stuff going
on all across the roster. You're gonna pay Gino Smith
as he's staying your quarterback and DK Metcalf has been
(29:31):
eclipsed as the go to receiver on the Seahawks. Middle
of last season, Jackson Smith Dijigba became the guy they
thought he was when they drafted him two years ago.
All of a sudden, he's getting all the targets. He's
having monster Wes Welker type days with ten twelve catches,
one hundred and forty yards. He's become the number one guy.
If you watch the Seahawks play even a little bit,
(29:52):
you could see boy Metcalf just doesn't seem to be
the focal part of the offense that he was. And
it's really Smith Didjigba. And if that's the case, him
and Locket, you bring in a couple of young guys. Okay,
when you need to fill a lot of holes on
your roster, you can't sit back and say, well, we're
gonna pay two good wide receivers. Well, if you're not
paying a good quarterback, what the hell's are used? So
this is one of those where I could, I could
(30:13):
see it completely for both teams. And if this is
something that's being worked on, I push this across the
finish line. I love it if I'm the Packers, I
love it if I'm the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
Yeah, a lot of young receivers there. You got to
keep a couple of these guys healthy. But mainly you
watch time and again all the X excellence of Josh
Jacobs would get wasted by a drop.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
Right. We watched that throughout the year.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
I think it was thirty four was the number that
has made the rounds of how many official drops they had.
I mean, think of all the first downs, think of
all the fuel goal opportunities. In an NFL where the
margin of these games is so narrow, that's another couple
of wins, right, And all of a sudden, we're talking
not only about you know, home field advantage here, but
(30:56):
you know, I'm really kind of upsetting the Apple car
across the the NFC. Metcalf need needs more consistency, needs
that love needs to be involved early in games, and
it is a game changer. He's a guy that can
move the chains but also can take the top off.
So we look at him and Gino still has guys.
(31:17):
You know, they've got to make a decision Unlockett. But
Smith and Jigba, as you noted, is the guy. You
got a couple of good capable running backs. Their their
love affair with Gino, and you know that's that's great
lip service. But what's the long term plan there? Grabbing
a first round pick as part of this deal helps
you to start thinking about what you're doing there. You've
(31:38):
got a pretty strong defense. What everybody tells me is,
you know this wizard on that side of the ball.
Now you just need uh to get enough playmakers there
on the offensive side and to start thinking about the
long term at the QB position. So I think it wins.
It wins for everybody. And as a guy who you know,
(31:58):
grew up in Chicago and talks about the NFC North
a bunch, that's just what I need.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Yeay, another win for the Packers.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
Although I gotta get Mark Murphy in company credit. I
took the jab earlier because they've said some silly things
about the business of football whatever. I like the fact
that anybody that sold one hundred percent of their tickets
the last two years.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
To home games, they're not letting them renew. Yeah, yeah,
that's pretty cool. Yeah. I mean because the waiting list
is generations.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
Yeah right, So if you're going and just profiting on
all those tickets, like you know, we we are the
publicly held squad, beat it.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
We got other people waiting.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Exit out by a Fresca exit Swallen Dome, Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon live from the Tirack dot Com studios. Coming
up next, we got a big injury to break down,
end the one NFL move that would have thirty teams
in the NFL saying no, you can't allow this trade
to happen.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
That's next, Jason and Mike Fox and I mean no.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Like Darth Vader at the end of Revenge of the
Sith when he finds out, you know, Padme died, Sorry spoiler.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific Fox.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon. We finished with a flourish here on Fox
Sports Radio. First of all, happy trails Joel Embiid. Hopefully
he can get healthy. He's officially done for the season.
With the Philadelphia seventy six Ers. Look, we've talked about
(33:32):
this for the last week. I feel like this week
has been the funeral of the process. You know, we've
had the funeral, We've had the calling hours, we've had
the we've had the luncheon after like all this week,
Embiid and his injury and losing to the Bulls by
a thousand, and Paul George saying.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Hey, we stink.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
It's about time I stopped my podcast and we've got
my body into shape game sixty three, and now you
find out today that Embiid is out.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
He should have played.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
His last game for the Sixers, Right, We've talked about
this for a while. It is time for both sides
to get a fresh start. It's time for him to
go someplace else and try to rediscover his form and
his time for the Sixers to say, we did all
we could, we had the best of him, and now
it just didn't work, and probably try to move on
from Paul George too. Let's rebuild around Tyres Maxi and
(34:19):
just you know, kind of be thankful that the Phillies
and the Eagles are really good, so no one really
goes too crazy about us not being so good.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
No, and that's it.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
You know, it's that time of the process where you
have to see what I did there, You have to
set up the schedule of who goes and cleans the
site and leaves the fresh flowers and stuff like.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
That's where we're at in the future.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
That says for the Sixers here it's a final I mean,
Joe mb did give it the old college try ahead
of the trade deadline. Look how healthy I am. Here's
a triple double that was short lived, and how we
get back to this? A lot of the speculation now done,
as you'll have procedures and missed time and finished the
(35:01):
season here. Paul George also talking about his health as
he did with that podcast, So what does that mean?
That mean he's suddenly gonna be unavailable because really, right
now you're in the tank. And then it becomes the
how do we sell Cooper flag? I'm not going back
to Duke right, that's the next iteration. Yes, hey, you
like the city of Brotherly Love. You ever cheer the Eagles?
(35:26):
How about you come out to an Eagles game this fall.
All of that to say, you know, for Paul George
and every and for Joel embiid. It's been a hell
of a run. I hope Maxie gets the help he
needs there in Philly.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
Now speaking of the Eagles, all right, this is this
is why, Hey, this is gonna be great. If we stink,
no one's gonna care. Howie Roseman's the best GM in
the NFL. Right when you talk about being able to
turn over an entire roster and from winning the Super
Bowl in twenty eighteen to getting back to the super
Bowl four years later, new quarterback knew everything and then
two years later plenty of new pieces in new running
(36:01):
back and win it. Yeah, I feel pretty pretty safe
and saying this guy really knows what he's doing more
so than anybody else. And the story from the Athletic
today probably has thirty teams ready for an intervention with
the NFL, and I mean one of those Mark Cuban
NBA intervention. Hey, David Stern, you can't let the Lakers
(36:23):
get Chris Paul because Diana Rassinia the Athletic reporting that
Howie Roseman has a big swing for the fence's idea
he's gonna go after Miles Garrett, who wants out of Cleveland,
has no desire to stay in Cleveland, was offered a
big contract, don't want no, he wants out. Eventually the
Browns is gonna realize, Okay.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
It's not gonna work.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
We kind of have to trade him, all right, we
gotta do what he wants. And the Eagles are a
terrific landing spot. You know, Miles Garrett would want to
go there. Coming off winning the Super Bowl. It wouldn't
seem to be fair that a team with an incredible
defensive line that single handedly won the Super Bowl gets
the best defensive.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Lineman in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (37:03):
Like, it doesn't seem fair, But the Eagles can make
it happen, especially when you think of hey, they're gonna
probably lose Josh Sweat and free agency. Look, the Eagles
have already said, we can't keep all these guys, right,
we have to churn the roster.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
Over a little bit. So they're gonna lose Josh Sweat.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
And one of the few misses they had was going
to get Bryce Huff last year. Right, Remember it was
a whole big Well, the Jets get a sign Reddick
and they get Bryce Huff from the Jets. Okay, not
that it was a trade, but it basically seemed that way.
Bryce Uff went to free agency. He got to the
quarterback a lot with the Jets, and the Eagles thought
he's our next guy, and then there was no room
for a son Reddick. The Jets get a sign Reddick
(37:38):
that didn't work out. But Bryce Huff didn't work out
so badly for the Eagles. He wasn't even active at
the end of the season, wasn't active for the Super Bowl.
Now he's still twenty seven years old, and yes he's
got a two year, thirty million dollar left on his contract,
but that's the contract that someone's gonna say, hey, we
saw you be really terrific in a good defensive system
(37:59):
a year ago. Eagles can move on from that, get
outside of that money and get whatever slow round draft
pick they're gonna get for it, and say, Okay, Miles Garrett,
come on in like that, like this can happen, that
this is gonna be I'm telling you, this is NFL
intervention time.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
If the Eagles wind up getting Miles Garrett.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
No, this will be a very interesting uh process to hear.
I mean, if everybody wants to complain about the Tush push,
they should be going after Roseman and I'm not so
sure they didn't. In that parade Smith, I mean, do
we ever find out where that beer can came from?
Did they ever fingerprint that and figure out whether they
had any ties to a front office executive from another team?
Speaker 3 (38:37):
No, I don't think it. You think it was You
think it was Bryce Huff who did it? You think
I could have been him? I was East.
Speaker 4 (38:45):
I mean, he's still gonna get a ring, He's still Hey,
they gotta vote on a chaer. I guess is where
it comes down to and gets a little crazy there.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
Hey, Bryce Harper, can you throw this at that guy
for me? Just just throw it, just try to get
it there. I know your elbow's not great. Just one throw,
Just one throw for me.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
It's like Howie Roseman was in the dunk tank. But
all of that is Yeah, it's borderline unfair. At this point,
they've got seven draft picks at their disposal and plenty
of acumen. Is this like where nobody wanted to trade
with Danny Ainge for all those years?
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Yeah, yeah, I'm not even gonna bother with that guy.
So you know, even though he's got assets to trade
some of these young guys that they'd be happy to
push out, knowing they have their evaluation process down pat
to bring Garrett in.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
No, we're out of Spike. We're not gonna trade with you.
Speaker 4 (39:33):
It's a really good trade by all metrics and all
evaluation doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
We're not traded with that guy, all right, So bold
prediction for Monday. I'm gonna ask you this.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
We finally got a picture of the potential confrontation with
Jordan chelten Ian rapaport from the Starbucks in Indianapolis by Monday.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
Is there video or is this story done? I think
we start getting this subruder film. I don't think we
got a full video, but I don't think we'll get
a few frames from Sorry, I caught the tail end
of it as they got separated.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
Oh yeah, Buddy exit al Bata Fresca exit Swollen Dome
for Mike com Jason, This is Fox Sports Radio.
