Speaker 2 (00:51):
Well.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Uh, Mike Harmon. Super Bowl is going on right now,
Ucla and Northwestern on FS one, A game that you
seela led by twelve with a minute left to go.
Somehow Northwestern cut it to two with twenty seconds left
to go, missed free throws, turnovers, and all of a sudden,
(01:13):
Northwestern cuts this lead. And look, it's a big game
for UCLA. They're in sixth place. In the Big Ten.
If they win, it's a huge w You're talking about
twenty one to nine, twelve and seven in the Big Ten,
maybe punching a ticket to the dance. A loss is
absolutely brutal for them. And boy, I don't know what
I was rooting for, you know here in La Ucla,
but you went to Northwestern. But in the end, I
(01:35):
think I was rooting for Northwestern because I really would
love to see Mick Cronin's press conference following this game.
This would be like that Wayne's world line. Dude, you
ever see the movie Scanners when the guy's head just explodes,
like I think I was wanting. I wanted that in
the postgame.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Well, once they had that massive thirteen to one run,
Northwestern to cut it, as you said, and then you
have a sequence of events that can't wait to hear
how the officials try to explain in the adjudication of
what went down that now has u c l A
up five and back at the foul line six point game,
seven point two seconds remaining. Northwestern driving to the bucket,
(02:12):
argue about contact file no foul and then gets to
pass out as UCLA does foul again.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
But they don't call it right clearly.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
The guy gives up, He's like, hey, I follow him,
like nope, the ball goes into the front court and
then they call a flagrant as the guy's going to
the rack. So a lot of questions in the final
thirty seconds. But yeah, angry Mick Cronin is about as
good as Yeah, that's yeah, absolutely, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
I would be. I would be a fan of like
going to a press conference and lying to him about
something just to see his react reaction. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
because we were.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
I was in the car coming to the studio on
the first half of listening to the UCLA home broadcast,
like Northwestern had a streak where they didn't commit a fall,
and the play by play you got Josh Lewin, who
has had his run ins with Mick Crone in the
last couple of weeks, to san leaves.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
He kind of was tapped ask.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
He's like, wow, they haven't called the fall in Northwestern
a while. And Tracy Murray, former UCLA gray comes over
the top. It goes and and he's been on the
show in number time. He just goes, well, we keep
taking terrible shots. We're not going to the rim.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
And they're playing good man defense.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
I think there was wasn't a lot of falls to
be called, like okay, one guy just doesn't want to
hear it again. The other guy is basically I don't
care Ucla wins the game. My brother in attendance, I'm
sure I'll get some choice texts from him at some
point as the night goes on. But congratulation Ucla Northwestern
trying to cling to a top fifteen.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yeah, the big ten. So hey, so they could play
at the tournament. You want to get in the tournament, right,
You just want to be able to do this. This
is where Mutton, this is This is how far my
basketball season is fallen. Is that A? I'm all about
Saint John's And B Yes, I was celebrating this weekend
that Syracuse clinched a spot in the ACC tournament, But
little victor in the ACC tournament. Man, we're in, we
got one of the top We're good. Hey man, every day,
(04:03):
what do we say? Find your wins?
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Man?
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Sometimes between I thought I was watching inside out. Does
he say after the game how proud he is of
his team overcoming adversity, or does he say I'd rather
have twelve new players? Like what I would say.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
If we're gonna put that as the two ends of
the spectrum, he's closer to the I don't know what
the hell we were doing for the final four. I
need twelve other guys that are competent, that can hold
the lead. That would be my guess. I think he
just yells loud noises that could very well. I wanted
to tell you better lay low for a while. There's
a there's a lot of players parents who are really
(04:41):
looking for you. You might want to just not not
say anything for a while. Turn the suit and so again.
Come on, he looks good in the suit. Who wears it? Hey,
who wears a suit better? Mick cronin a Rick Patino? Huh,
who wears a suit better?
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:53):
But Rick Patino?
Speaker 3 (04:55):
But how do you get your nutrition and hydration when
you're in that white suit?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Means happen? Man, You just have to have stuff that
doesn't stay in a white suit. Like you can't have
a bottle Harry gatorade? You got you gotta have a
bottle of white Yeah, we have a straw, handy or
a sippy cup. It matters what kind of mood you're
in tonight, because you can't just say, bottle of red,
can't do it? Wear an engineer boots, leather jackets and
tight blue jeans. Get guns you gotta do.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
I really thought that question was was going somewhere else
when you ask me to where it was it better?
Speaker 1 (05:23):
I did not expect that one thought croning or would
oh no, no, no, no croning or no because look, because
because you know before we go with this double barrel
story from the NBA. But really quick, I'm really kind
of pissed that now Saint John's become this trendy team
where three weeks who I told you I'm taking them
to win the tournament. They're great, they got the biggiest
player of the year, they got a great backcourt. Canarry
(05:44):
Richmond is great. RJ. Lewis is fantastic. They're the best
defensive team in the NCAA. There I'm taking one of turn.
And now every time they win, it's a big headline
on ESPN dot com, on a big sports website, Saint
John's up to six, Saint John's here with Patino, like,
come on, man, you've become trendy. I can't stand.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
That that was almost a month ago. It's like the
band you love like a Metallica becomes trendy. It's like,
come on, man, come on, Metallica can't get trendy.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
That sucks. Now I gotta pick a new band. Who'd
you pick a couple of my bands? Couple let's see
in the eighties, Okay, the bands I gave to my friends, right,
and they should all respect me way more for music.
And I'm like, really, I just had to wait for
like now to come around and go, hey, you talk
about the state of rock and roll the bands I
tried to give you. I gave my friends guns and
(06:29):
Roses because I was in. I was first on gun
and Row. I was first and on Poison La Guns
I know, right, but still there they were all because
you know what, cause all my friends were all, hey, man,
I listened to The Who and You Two and the
Stones and that's all and Zeppelin and all that. How
much Listen, there's some new bands out good Metellia's guns
and Row. You don't know what you're talking about? Guns
(06:49):
and roses? What is that? And then like three months
later they're all wearing bandanas, throwing their hair down, going
shut no, no, no, no, no nose. I'm like, you fake poser.
I gave you guns and roses.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Given the gifts. Did you see the gift they got
in Athens, Georgia this weekend?
Speaker 1 (07:06):
What they getting?
Speaker 3 (07:07):
So Michael Shannon right zod sure, he and a He's
got a band and they do all r EM covers. Really,
all four guys showed up on stage and all that
really and did a couple of songs with.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Everybody from Knives Out show up too. That would have
been thought cool. Yeah, that would have been cool. But no,
I mean, did that hadn't happened in forever? I am
not eating one iota of that. That's pretty cool. I
like that. Wow, did you think well give them Winger two? No? No,
Winger was college. No. And I also gave my friend
skid Row and they were like, oh skid Row And
(07:41):
I'm telling you, Subasha Bax's voice is phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Send the copy of Live Jesus Christ Superstar will change
their lives.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Gave my friends Rock. I gave my friends and they
were all like, no, no, man, I want I want
my son to really need something like. I would have
listened to you too, because I want girls to think
I'm deep and I really I just I would ripped
jeans and I'll just sit back with my headphones on
and I ignore people because you know, I'm deep and
I'm disaffected and all people, Hey, what are you listening
(08:09):
to I'm listening to you too, because they care about stuff, man,
you care about stuff. That was all my friends. I
say this about my friend. I haven't talked to them
all in thirty five years. You want to start and wrapping?
Oh come no, no, no no, come on, come on,
Mark and Brian and Andrew and know it. No no,
no no no, not not at all, not at all,
not at all. No, but they're all again. Oh no, no,
(08:30):
I got WASP. I got WASP. I was given Wasp
in Metallica and uh Slayer and the Big Three and
Slayer and then uh uh uh oh my message Diamonds. No no, no,
no no when the Big Three hit was and megadethra Megadeth,
No no no, no, Anthrax. I was in on because
Anthrax actually anthraxs and the Beastie Boys and not give
(08:51):
the Beastie Boys to all my friends too, like you
gotta listen, Oh what do you mean to do? Fight
for your right to party? Right? And then like two
months after they're all I at parties, drinking beer, going
right to party. That was all my Is that? Why?
Is that why you hate grown so much? Something? That's
why I think I went to college and it reminds
you of all those idiot friends. That's why when I
went to college, I realized I didn't need to talk
(09:12):
to anybody high school anymore. I got all new friends. Now,
all new friends understand what good music It doesn't always
need to be Hey, is this something deep? Listen to
the lyrics. The lyrics are just so really so.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
What you're saying is you didn't do a big rics
Jason Mason reinvention when you showed up on the.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
All reinvented, reinventing the new character. I'd like share. No,
there were a lot of new new decades that did
happen to a lot of my friends, though. Like when
you go back after freshman year and you see everybody,
which is, you know, the night before Thanksgiving and everybody
goes out, and you're like, whoa dude. Now you're used
to have short hair and you got ninety eights. Now
you you have a nose ring and a and a
and a mohawk and wow, and you're smoking cigarettes Okay, Hey,
(09:53):
how's college? What Scott? How much warrant did you hang out?
Oh dude, Oh no, Warrant I gave to everybody too.
Warret Warrant I gave to my friends who gave me
Mega Death and Metallica, and I said, I'll this war
because we were then in the hair metal. It's like, no, dude,
you listen to Warrant Warren's.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Were you able to induce a private performance of their
greatest hit? Uh?
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Well, I don't know, man, great Warren's greatest They have
the greatest hit, Warret Come on that had so many
down boys? Is still their best song? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Yeah, yeah, but that's not the one that packs him
in where it starts to raining and Cherry Pott.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
So yeah, yeah, cool drink of water and realized Jason.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
If you google the worst songs of the eighties, Warrant
is right there.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
That is that is not true. That is patently not true.
Worst metal bands of the eighties, Warrant, hang On, hang On,
worst It's metal and Striper of the eighties. Well, Striper, okay,
Winger is number one, Nitro is number two, who also
was on American Gladiators. Striper. I wasn't a big Striper fan,
(10:56):
although I liked honestly, honestly was a good song. Well,
and then warrant wow Warren. It was the stop with Warren.
Warren was great. Come on talking to my good music.
Sometimes she cries, oh you Dode, I hey, it's good music.
If Warren came out right now, it would be they'd
be the greatest band in the world. Look at this
rock band Warret. Oh my god, this should be a
warrant out for your arrest. They got big hits, they
got balanced. They're the greatest band ever. But because it
(11:18):
came out in the eighties when all great hair metal
music coming out, like yeah, they get you get lost
a little bit. Now it's like, boy, rock and roll
is just man, is it a vast barren wasteland?
Speaker 3 (11:29):
So I still go out and watch these guys while
they're on tour. I support them in whatever groupings are
still available for my entertainment. That guy doesn't exist anymore. Sorry,
there's a guitar is still there in the drummer. I'm
trying to figure out what the proper percentage of original
members is that you still can show up. I don't know,
because I gotta do jet throw tall album dropping. So
(11:51):
if they go back on tour, as long as he
is the first.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Two songs, aren't you had the advantage, Jason, and you
had one, always one advantage on it.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Everybody else. What's that you had access to Pirate Radio?
I did. I did have access and this is the
yeah yeah we're handing out w s o U oh yeah,
you know I'd listened to I got so deep into
the into the into the weeds. I listen to bands
like the Sea, Hags's Doghouse in the dog House again,
Where Where Where Wow, Wow, Wow, Jet Boy like all
(12:24):
these I'm like, I'm like int, I'm like, okay, here
are the bands that I'm just gonna go really all
the way far deep and try to discover all kinds
of bands. Oh I take that, dude. Pirate Radio is awesome, man,
you would I would get to listen and hear all
this like new rock that would come out of like
oh my god, to be like one of the first
people to listen to it and hear it. I'm oh man,
Seaton Hall Radio. Two best things that come out of
(12:46):
Seaton Hall Pirate Radio and Canary Richmond. There you go,
there's the two best things what about St. John's He's
not bad, Yeah, but carry now carry Richmond's point guard
for St. John. And then in St. John's yeah no, no, no,
but St but yeah, they did have a big run.
But now Saint John's gonna win. All.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
By the way, for folks looking for for films, you
know that you're not doing football. Film review Pirate Radio
really good movie, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nye, amongst others. Uh,
all about the old radio wars and being just outside
of the limits where they could be attacked by the
(13:20):
British police and magistrates for playing objectional music.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Yeah, back when they were big radio wars. Yeah yeah,
So here we're gonna play the Kings. Yeah yeah, we're
gonna get in trouble for that.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
But it's on a ship where we're gonna we're gonna leave.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
We're gonna leave the port. All the cops are coming
again as Pirate an international waters can't touch me now,
we're not gonna play. You can't touch this because that's
not the rock and roll. Lock it in and rip
the knock ball, all right? So yeah, where nowhere, where where? Where? Where?
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Where?
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Where? I have not heard this song in thirty years
but I still remember it.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
Oh no, it's funny how the brain works, right or
do you think all those country lyrics?
Speaker 1 (14:20):
And I'll tell you a tell. So this is supposed
to be the song the band that if they came
out now, the band is se no no, no, no.
This is different. This is this is like really in
the weeds Warrant is the band if they came out now,
they'd be big. Yeah, this is this is sea. This
is like, hey, okay, there was a really long way
to go, long way to go. Oh no, I'm in
(14:45):
the dog house again. Where where where? Okay? Fox Sports
Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike

(17:11):
two big stories out of the NBA, same team tonight,
and one is really a shame. One is boy, it's
a really bad optic. Uh. The day began for the
Dallas Mavericks in which the team announced they're going to
increase ticket prices next year. This amidst a general dissatisfaction
(17:32):
and lack of enthusiasm about the Mavericks following the trade
of Luka doncic. Uh, the Mavericks announced, Yeah, We're gonna
raise prices next season.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Is that the dissolution language used in divorce proceedings lack of.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
Lack of satisfaction. No, it would be unfavorable. It's always irreconcilable.
Disc that's always well, like, I understand that an eight
percent like tickets, this is eight percent. This is not Hey,
we had this increased plan for a while, but we're
going up eight percent. So this is just this is
just a horrible optic. Yeah, we got to announce the
(18:10):
tickets to go like they're mad at their fans. Hey,
al right, we've had enough of taking this in the teeth. Okay,
you kicking us while we're down. We're gonna raise prices
on you next year. What are fans gonna say, ooh,
more games? I won't go to Yes, thank you, I'll
go do something else. Yeah, I think part of it
is here.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
We'll enumerate it into the increased security because of the
level of jack asserin going on games and around the
arena these last couple of weeks, because of you and
you and if you need to name guys, you name
guys and you go through it.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
I mean, the people are gonna say, I've screw that.
At least I can go, Hey, I want to see
a star playoff. Go see Riko gun Balali play for
the Wings. I'll go see her hoist up a thousand
shots in a game. I'll go see that. Instead, it's
probably less money. I'll have more, more fun. They're not
gonna trade away everybody. I'll go see the Wing.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
I'll bet the over underround how many shots she takes
at a given quarter? Give it's probably ten quarter? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, No,
it's pretty good. No, she's like Kobe Man.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
She just she did give me the ball, Give me
the ball up shooting, Give me the ball up shooting.
What do you got, Frostburg? You know why the ma
the Mavericks did this. I mean it's a Jason smisheer,
but Mike Harmon exclusive. Okay, okay, I like it.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
I like it being told it's because eighties new insurance
policy went up.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Premiums the six months could be huge. So you're welcomes, okay?
Are good? So is there is there a go fund
yourself somewhere on this?
Speaker 5 (19:29):
Like?
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Are they trying to get money from the face? Sure?
One with two other letters. Okay, there's no question about that.
You said fund yourself, Yes, go fund yourself? Oh, got it,
got it, got it.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
You're not gonna like people didn't respond to the MAV's
email with that boy what second one?
Speaker 1 (19:44):
What I mean who? Okay in the pantheon of bad ideas,
like okay, if you need to announce this is a
this is at the very top, like even if you're
gonna do this, don't announce it. Yeah, I guess what
prices are going up? What are you kidding?
Speaker 3 (20:00):
I mean, fans are bringing caskets to the games, right,
I mean, really, they're bringing caskets to the games. You
got the Laker fans applauding Niko when he came out, asking.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
The pictures these are all real face, not NBA sentel
stuff that well it's not true. No, these are all
real things that are happening. They were clapping and yelling
thank you, Nik. I mean it was a cheer that
was audible. This is the This is like that scene
in my cousin Vinnie when when Ris and Time and
Vinnie are arguing and she goes, she goes, Now, I
know you get a lot in your mind. It's a
bad time to bring it up. But we agreed to
(20:30):
get married after you won your first case, and he goes,
I swear I don't need this mona. Lisa I don't
need this. I don't need like. I don't understand how
now is when hey, not only are we gonna do it,
but we're gonna let people know. I get that you
have people have to find out because you're mailing out,
you have to let people know. But this is how
do you sit here and say, yeah, we're doing this.
(20:53):
How do you how do you do this with a
straight face? I don't understand. This is awful talking in
an awful optic. Well.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
I gotta think at some point you say we're already
in for a penny, let's just take the pound while
we're at it. We're gonna we're wearing it as it is?
How much worse can it get?
Speaker 1 (21:12):
The play by play is gonna be like Harry Doyle
going and the Indians lose another one in front of
family and friends, seven to two to the White Sox
take over. MANI I'm in the bag. That's what seems
gonna be like. Next here you're like yay, and then
you canna hear like you here, oh coming down for
a big three and just hear one fan go mess
it mess And now you want to throw on top
(21:37):
of this story the fact that who knows how long
they're gonna be without Kyrie Irving, because look, we talked
about the Mavericks. They just have to get past this, right. Yes,
it's gonna be an awful look for a while, and
you just have to take it. No matter how many
stories you leak about, Hey, Luca, you know the smoking
and the drinking and the hookah and no, people are
(21:57):
still gonna be mad because Luca's come to the Lakers.
Lakers may not lose again. Right, He's figured things out.
You have a really good team, right, they have a
really good team. When Ad gets back, watch how good
this team is with Ad and Kyrie. This is a
team that can do some damage. But you have to wait.
I know it sucks. I know you hate getting made
fun of and you hate being the butt of jokes,
(22:18):
but you have to just wait on this and where
things are gonna turn, you're gonna say, hey, but still
believe in us. But now Kyrie Irving is out. Was
helped off the floor after suffering a left knee sprain
against the Kings late in the first quarter. He got hurt.
Mavericks wind up losing one two ninety eight. Boy, all
the good, feel, all the good things they could have
had going forward with Ad and Kyrie Irving. Now you
(22:39):
wonder how things are even gonna go for them the
rest of the way, because with a sprain knee from
Kyrie Irving, you're already thinking, well, with Ad out, what
kind of year are we gonna have the rest of
the way. You wonder how when you're gonna see Kyrie
Irving again? The guy's thirty two, a knee sprain, Do
you really want to bring him back? Do you really
think you're gonna go through the Western Conference with Ad
dinged up and and a less than hundred percent Kyrie Irving?
(23:02):
Or is this where you know what we got to
put it away for next year? Because next year, after
we've had time to gel and figure out what other
parts we want to get, We're not spending three and
a million on Luca, so we can go spend more
money in the offseason. Dallas can make themselves a good team.
So I wonder, even though it's a Nie brain you're
looking at, you know, eighteen to twenty games left, are
we really going to see him again? We're really going
to see Kyrie Irving? Are we're not going to see
Kyrie till next year. That's good. That's a really tough one. Today.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Now you're sitting in the ten spot. Just a couple
of games over five hundred right now. Phoenix, who will.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Get to and plenty going on with them, are in
the eleven seed as we sit here tonight, percentage points
ahead a Portland for that tenth slot. Is that good? Well,
but it depends. It's the second place. It depends. No,
it's not the point that I was getting to.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Is Dallas has precedent of saying, how the hell with it,
we'll make a run next year and playing themselves out
of the end season tournament.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
We have seen this from Dallas. Hold on draft picks.
We've heard Yeah, look, I would not be surprised if
without Kyrie, without without ad if they fall out of it. Listen,
the Mavericks need my pr advice more than any other
team in the NBA. And I just have to say this,
Sometimes it just sucks and you just have to take it,
(24:18):
and you have to take what happens and not say
anything and be the bigger side and understand that like
Berman would always say it, Like I think about this,
when Berman would always do the highlight Week seventeen of
the NFL, and you know a team that was like
three and thirteen would lose, like the Jets would lose
thirty four to three to the Dolphins, and the final
shot of the highlight was you know Don Shuler or
(24:40):
Jimmy Johnson celebrating and you know the Jets walking off
the field. And he would always say, and the Dolphins
headed to the playoffs for the third straight year. Meanwhile,
better days ahead for the New York Jets next season,
Like that's a that's what I would tell the Mavericks.
You have to say, understand, better days are ahead. It's
not gonna be right now. The fans are gonna be mad.
(25:02):
You gotta give them time to be mad. You gotta
give basketball analysts time to make fun of you because
you did trade a twenty five year old superstar. And
watch the Lakers. There now an NBA title challenger, right.
They may not have a lot of difficulty the rest
of the season. Regularly, I told you they were gonna
finish second when they got Luca, and it looks like
they're gonna finish second in the Western Conference. You have
to understand that. Just let it go. Don't try to
(25:24):
play this game with Luca and all kinds of hey,
he was doing this, he wasn't doing this. Just understand
it's gonna be tough, and you have to wait and
bite your tongue and wait for better days ahead in
the offseason. If that means you got to go on vacation,
you gotta delete your social media, whatever it is, whatever
you have to do. That's the best. I wish I
could give you something more and say, hey, we can
(25:46):
hit the fast forward button on this and you'll get
back to being confident and happy. But it's just gonna
take a while. You made a trade that was deeply
unpopular and you just need time. That's the only thing. Now.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
If you have any more stories you'd like to plan,
it gives us content for another day.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
So anybody that wants to.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Leak out to sources, uh some more stuff about Luca,
that'd be great.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Uh. But in the interim, I really just asked for
made up stories to be put out. I didn't say
made up. I think you did. No, I think you did.
Quote sources. Okay, all right, okay, down goes Bronson. Alright, Okay, stop,
we're talking about the Dallas Mavericks in the trade of
Luca Johnson Maverick. You keep you keep Jaylen Bronson's name
out unless you're talking about Rick Brunson as well. He's
(26:29):
these yours to keep everybody named Brunson out of your mouth.
Charles you could, well, that's Bronson's, but that's okay. Charles
Bronson is okay, Bronson Pinshaw is Okayamba, Bronson Arroyo is okay.
Well I'm coming down to the end of Bronson's now
Bronson Royal. That's Bryson, but that's okay. That's still fascinate Bronson, Reedson,
(26:50):
Bronson Reid okay.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
Show Australian professional wrestler. All right, it's big, big bronze read.
I mean, look at that guy.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
He's big. He looks like the one man Gay come
get you. He's kind of in that same kind of role.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
But I really thought you were gonna Gonfler into Mary
Chapin Carpenter with the Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're
the bug in.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Your sometimes you're in a hammer and sometimes to nail that.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
You know, Berman isn't along those lines, but but that's
just it.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Right.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
You're in a rough spot because before you lost Anthony Davis,
you'd already lost Gafford, and while yes he's not the
same player that was the whole thing. He's They're gonna
have this incredible front line. It's like, oh, wait, no,
he's gone for six weeks and then Davis goes down
and now Kyrie Irving. So yeah, with that slim of margin,
very easy to just look at at Adam Silver and
(27:35):
be like, yeah, we're kind of done for the year, buddy.
But in the interim you have to wear it from
all the talking heads. You're you're help by the fact
you got several teams who have so grossly underperformed that
all attention is going to be turned to them here
in the next week or so.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
I just all you're saying, all the thinking of is
seeing video of the Jets winding on the field and
Berman saying, and better days ahead for Bruce cost and
the Jets after a one in fifteen, nineteen ninety four,
and better days ahead. He would always that was always
a thing. Better days ahead for the for the Jets,
(28:11):
better days ahead for the Dallas Cowboys coming off this
horrendous season where Cooper Rush had to play quarterback.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
But I just have to think that that Berman, if
we did examine the videotape.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
He never singled out the coach that was one hundred
to get fired. If the picture, if the video was
of Bruce Coslet walking off the field, he would say,
and better days ahead for Bruce Coslet and the Jets,
very generous, better better day and he would do that.
He would do it on Baseball tonight. We find a
(28:44):
co tight can I can't tell you the bet, you
know is that when Berman would do Baseball Tonight like
because that you know, because everybody runs it from prime time. Sure,
but he would always all his nicknames were really originated
on baseball TOAs he did baseball for so long, and
he would do like four sports and his four Baseball
tonights a year because he was in his country. He
liked doing it, and I just so happened. I worked
(29:05):
on the shows with him a lot, and he would
say it was the most funny had like he goes,
I love doing all this, but I love doing you know,
working on baseball and everything. And I said, and I
think I said to once like, oh, can you give
me can you give me a better days ahead? I
think I said that to him once, and uh, like,
I don't know why that came up. But it was
but no, no, no, Burman, no, Burman, sure he does.
(29:27):
Like I could meet Burman now and he would say, Jason,
how you do back back back back back? No, he
would do that. But I remember asking him once about
the better day because that was always the big line.
He would always joke around with that, like we would
be watching highlights, the football highlights, and something would happen.
He would say, well, better days ahead for that team.
So I said, can you give me I remember one say,
could you give me a better days ahead? And uh
he said, he said, I'll go, I'll try aultra out
(29:48):
trap and like the Mets lost a game like this
is horrible Mets in the mid nineties, and and and
the last shot of the game was because I don't
want to say what is I'll ruin. The line was
the Mets manager walking off the out of the the
end of the clubhouse and like he slammed a cup
down and he goes and meeting. So the Phillies win
at six three. Meanwhile, better days ahead for Dallas Green
(30:10):
in the New York Met did for me. He did
it for me. Oh man, I'll tell you he was.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
He's fantastic. He was came man. I don't know, but
he because we got to get a couple of those.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Days ahead for Dallas Green. It's good to see Jason.
Not many things have changed with the mat since the eighties.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
I know now we're good, dude. I'll see you in
the NLCA, except we have one sodo. I'll see you
in the NLCS. I'll see you there. A guy the
Yankees just said bye bye. Padre said bye bye. Yeah yeah, okay, yeah,
No one wanted They didn't have money to give him.
Our owner is rich. That's his super He's like Batman.
What's your superpower? I'm incredibly rich. Steve Coin should be
Batman because he's incredibly rich. He isn't he might? Maybe
(30:53):
he walks around like dress up a little point. He
is a batman Ken cosplay big deal? Uh time now
to find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
But guy has been called the Batman of Fox Sports
Radio because he drives a batmobile in to work every
single day and never lets Robin drive it. It's Steve Desager.
Did did just say?
Speaker 4 (31:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (31:10):
Dressing up for coslet play?
Speaker 1 (31:12):
Is that what I cosling?
Speaker 5 (31:15):
Better days Ahead for Lou Holtz and the New York
Jeads for Pete Cherum and the New York.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
Yeah, better days ahead for rich Coe Tite and the
New York Jeff and the New York.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
I'll grow it for Todd Bowles and the New York.
It's just an endless game. It will never end.
Speaker 6 (31:35):
It has ended. The NBA schedule tonight. The last games
in the book. Detroit a winner at Utah one thirty
four one oh six Utah at twenty seven turnovers at Dallas.
Sacramento whip the MAVs one twenty two ninety eight as
Dallas star Kyrie Irving left early with the knees. Spring
Oklahoma City got fifty one points from Shay Gildess Alexander
and went over Houston one thirty seven to one twenty eight.
(31:57):
Atlanta won at Memphis on a fast break layup the
buzzer one thirty two to one. Thirty victories for Miami,
Portland and Golden State, which won at Charlotte. The Hornets
have lost seven straight. Lukadanzich of the Lakers questionable for
tomorrow with the bruce knee. Cleveland's Evan Mobley is out
Tuesday due to rest in college basketball final week in
(32:17):
the men's regular season. Number two Duke now eighteen and
one in the ACC after whipping Wake Force ninety three
to sixty Cooper Flagg twenty eight points and seven assists
just one turnover.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Meanwhile, twenty turnovers for the Jayhawks.
Speaker 6 (32:30):
Kansas is ten to nine in conference after losing tonight
at number three Houston sixty five fifty nine, UCLA a
winner at Northwestern seventy three sixty.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Nine on the game on FS one.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
NHL had six games tonight, including a Chicago five one
victory over LA. The Philadelphia Eagles will cut former Pro
Bowl defensive back Darius Slay. The Bengals franchise tagged wide
receiver T Higgins again this year. They now have until
mid July to sign him to a long term deal.
A year ago, Higgins was the only player who was
tagged by his team that did not sign a multi
(33:03):
year extension. Now his salary will be at least twenty
six million dollars. By the way, the league's franchise tag
window lasts until Tuesday afternoon. First day of the new
league year is March twelve. That's when the recent trade
signings become official. And yes, former coach Jimmy Johnson retired
from Fox TV after twenty five to thirty years of
work there. Yankees pitcher Luis Hill is being shut down
(33:25):
for at least six weeks with a lat strain. He
was Ale Rookie of the Year last season.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Milwaukee Steve Wait, did Nester Cortes say that the Yankees
are still better than the Dodgers even after the Luis
heal news.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
Wasn't he one of the reasons why they actually were
not better than the duck gave up Freddy Freeman. I thought,
I remember you and I being on the air during
that pitch.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
My goodness, that was so exciting. It was. It was sensational.
Speaker 6 (33:49):
A final note, Milwaukee reportedly signed pitcher Jose Kintana, who
Mets fans may remember from the second half of last season.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve. The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harma Coming up next, we'll

ahead in theory for the player we're gonna talk about next.
A big trade goes down in the NFL. How big
a deal is it? We'll tell you next right here,
Jason and Mike and Jenny Lane Fox Sports Radio owing
(34:17):
Bobby Brown, who was in the Brown that's that Bobby Brown? Oh,
different model Bobby Brown, not Millie Bobby Brown. Not no, no, no,
no no. It's a lot of Bobby Brown's. It's true.
And TJ clearly it would be her prerogative to be
in the video or not. TJ wasn't at a league
president too, TJ. Every little step you're taking is getting
(34:41):
on my nerves. TJ, this is the music playing you off.
Speaker 2 (34:47):

Man I'll tell you hair metal pr advice to the Mavericks.
Sure we haven't even gotten to the oscars yet.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
No, not even lenty plenty of thoughts off that. But yeah, uh,
big trade.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
In the NFL this weekend, and I know everybody's excited
about it. Time out. Yeah, I think Adrian Brody is
still talking. Oh oh okay everybody. Yeah, make sure everybody
else is quiet so Adrian Brody can have an extra
few minutes. Okay. I remember when he gave his first
speech when he won for the pianist. He was like,
come on, guys, I'm never gonna get up here again.
Come on, come on, let me talk like he was
(35:58):
like he was admonishing people who are ready to dude,
come on, finish man, let's go, let's go.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
Let's I mean, I kind of appreciate it since we're here,
the you know, gratitude of getting back to that point,
and that's all finding good. We'll get into the actual
awards and whatever. It just meant that other people that
worked tirelessly on things got hey you got twenty five seconds. Yeah, right, But.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
I get that you want to hear from these people.
But at the same time, like, just come on, it
may get him. It made me not like him. It
made it be like, come on, man, like the oscars.
I thought you were going to say it was because
halle Berry kissed him. No, no, no, hey halle Berry.
Halle Berry's almost sixty. Yeah, and she is. She looks
like she's thirty. Like, we have to find out. What
do you do? How he hangs out with Van Hunt?
(36:42):
You know Van huntlievable.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
He's a musician, and he hung out and he was
an opener and a collaborator with the Afghan Wigs.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Wow, was he really just make that up?
Speaker 4 (36:49):
No?
Speaker 1 (36:50):
Okay, all right, I thought he was a linebacker. Oh
that's Kyle van Noyah, all right, yeah close. Uh No,
he's a wide receiver. Oh that's Van Jefferson. Okay, that's fine.
Oh he's a guitarist and a drummer. Oh no, that's okay.
We have to stop. This weekend, we saw Deebo Samuel
go to the Commanders, right the yep, forty nine Ers
get a fifth round pick in return for Deebo Samuel.
The first thing I'm gonna say is, forty nine Ers fans,
(37:12):
buckle up. This ain't the last of the big players.
You've been relying on for the last three four years
that are gonna go out of town. You have too
many guys making fifteen million dollars a year. You're gonna
see a new team next year. So for all this
Niners are gonna one d contend they'll be back. It's
gonna be a new team because you spent too much
money going for it this year, which was the right call,
(37:34):
but it didn't work and now you got to pay.
So he's not the first guy nor the last guy
that's a long tenured forty nine er that's gonna go.
But in the end I was okay with it. I mean,
it's not a it's I'm kind of man on Deebo
for Washington because he's on a three year decline. Right,
he's twenty nine years old. He is someone at every
(37:57):
wide receiver running back metric. He's not that guy. He's
not gonna go. He's not gonna go to Washington. And
suddenly you know, seven catches for eighty yards, four rushes
for thirty eight yards, a touchdown, rushing a touch that's
not who he is anymore. He's not He's gonna be
a great gadget guy. He'll be a great slot receiver.
(38:18):
He'll be a great third receiver. Rather, I should say
he'll be a really good third receiver and a gadget guy. Right,
And if you need that, okay, great, because you have
a good number one. You don't really have a number
two because like Noah Brown, is he really your number two? Okay,
you have your number one in McLaurin, but he'll be
an okay, number three. But to expect this is gonna
shock the world and suddenly here's the commanders are gonna
(38:38):
leap frog the Eagles. Eh, it's kind of a man move,
Like this is kind of who Dibo was at this point.
He's a he's a number three receiver. Is he gonna
stay on the field. Is he gonna be able to
wind up contributing like you think he's going to, Like
he's wanted out for a long time, so okay, now
you're gone. But is he suddenly gonna find the fountain
of youth and be motivated or is he gonna say, Okay,
(38:59):
I'm out and I'm not gonna get paid again, and
this is kind of what you're gonna get. I'm not
as enthused over the top about Deebo Samuel as a
lot of other people.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
Well, INCENTIVI I's final year of his contract and watching
it had plenty of cap space, so that allows them
to absorb this pretty easy for San Francisco, as you say,
they've got a lot of free agents and guys that
need to look at and clearly we try to examine it. Right,
we get into the parsing of words between reasons and
(39:27):
excuses for performance or lack therap, particularly this last year. Right,
there's no denying the three year decline as a guy
who was used a lot more as a running back
than perhaps he should be. Right, when you want to
go to a gadget, it's kind of situation and get
the ball into an electrifying players hands, isn't it supposed
(39:49):
to be two or three times a game? Not, Hey,
Christian McCaffrey's out and this guy got hurt, and that
guy got hurt, and Mitchell's not available, and Guarenda, oh
he just got hurt.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
That we're light leaning on.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Him behind a suspect offensive line because once Williams got.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Hurt, Charlie Gardner actually ran the ball a couple of times.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Oh that's it, like you had Williams obviously good thoughts
to he and his family. But a guy that you
had a lot of talk about his contract coming into
the season, and what did he do. The analysis was
he elevated a bunch of meh offensive line.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Well he wasn't there, so guess what, Meg goes down
a peg.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
So all of that to say, reason's excuses, but you
go to here, Diami Brown stepped up a bunch in
the second half and became a better weapon for Samuels.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
I'm intrigued. Does it leap past the Eagles? No? But
can't get any worse? Exit O about a Fresco exit
swalling down the Jason Smithsheer with Mike Carmon live from
the Tirack dot Com studios. Coming up next, we got
some new news coming into Fox Sports Radio ahead of
some big quarterback news tomorrow. Keep it right here, Jason
(40:56):
and Mike fuh
