Speaker 1 (00:32):
Hello, Welcome in side hour three The Jason Smith Show

the way tire buying should be well. A big three

(00:53):
pointer at the end of the third quarter, Dalton connect
from about five feet back in the arc cuts the
Knicks lead to eight. Nicks lead the Lakers right now
eighty four seventy six going to the fourth quarter. Jalen
Brunson has twenty six and eight assists. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic
twenty five points, eight assists, four rebounds. Lebron James nineteen

(01:15):
seven and seven Jason, Yes, Frostburg, take a picture. The
lead will last longer. I just want to let you know,
if this hits zero zero zero and the Knicks win,
just walk out and walk out and walk home. Just
walk out and go home. You can't say things that
aren't gonna happen. Just walk out and go home. Man.
Just put your bag over your over your shoulder like
you're running away from home, and just leave. Just walk out.

(01:37):
You've seen this movie. Just walk out. You know how
this ends. No, it's going to get close down the stretch.
Like the Knicks don't run away from teams in the
fourth quarter because everybody's exhausted. So it will be it
will be a close game down the stretch. Lean, bling Lean.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
We will start playing the sad piano song from the
end of The Incredible Hulk, like when Stewie No, No, No,
play that, Brian play it.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Play it for me. Uh yeah, I think you're gonna
have to way better defense.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
And he did that little walk up effort for Connect
at the end of They just a lot.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
It's like we're going to pass the ball to Connect
and let him dribble up and shoot, and the Knicks
to say, sure, we'll let you do it all right, great,
but still a big fourth quarter ago, fun game and
I can't wait to get back into the Charles Barkley
stuff yeah after this game, because he's got to be
really upset to have to talk about the Lakers in
the Knicks. Well, I mean and everybody chiming in, all
the power brokers. Sure, guy chimed in came over the

(02:25):
top rope now, so it's now a tag team match.
So again, more on this game coming up in a
little bit. But big NFL trade news today. The first
one is that the Seahawks, at least they want to
make it seem like they are close to being able
to trade Dk Metcalf, who requests to be traded a
day ago. GM John Schneider said, everything's cordial, professional, We're

(02:49):
talking to a ton of teams, taking offers and seeing
what it looks like. According to reports, the asking price
for DK Metcalf is stupid. Metcalf is. They want a
first and a third rounder for DK Metcuff, which is
as great as he is. Right, I told you he's
a great receiver. Right, He's a guy over the top guy.

(03:10):
He will be a He will be the equivalent of
on a new team like DJ Moore going to the Bears,
Like that's the kind of impact he can have. He's terrific.
But he's in the last year of his deal and
you're paying him thirty million dollars. I mean, I get
that the first off. For hey, we're going to ask
for the moon, but you can't be serious with this

(03:30):
like this. That's why I would be a bad GM
because I would see this and go, I'm not calling
you because you're just being stupid. So I'm not gonna
call you. Good good luck trying to make this work
with somebody else, But I'm not gonna call you. If
DK Metcalf had a contract, we knew what he was
paying him for the next few years, everything else more
in place, I would say, Okay, well maybe it is
worth maybe you go. But for a guy that's going

(03:51):
the last year of his deal that can walk that
you're paying thirty million two this year, who's gonna give
you a first third up pick for that? Nobody? I'm
taking from you?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Nobody, Yes, right, I'm taking on a massive salary.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
I am not doing you a bit of a favor here.
It's it. I mean, that's what I mean. Like I'd
be a bad Jim because I would go, that's what
they want to screw. I'm never calling that guy. Just
like in a fantasy league when a guy says, y'all
make this trade, but it's gotta be fair, and you go, dude,
put that into a trade machine and tell me how
that comes. I'm never talking trade with you again.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
But this is one of those where I'm not getting
on the phone and listening to any of this stuff.
It's like, yeah, you can, you can fax me your
offers on this first and a third here in that
I wouldn't even dignify that with my voice being on
the other end of the line. For the things I
say would probably reverberate throughout the GM circles for years

(04:42):
to come.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
I would I would say, how would this good? How
is this gonna go? This will go at least to
the NFL Draft. It's not gonna go through free agency
because teams are gonna say, all right, we need a
wide receiver. But Davanta Adams is out there. There's other
guys out there that we can get maybe a little
bit cheaper. Let's see how free agency goes first. So
DK metcal because no one's gonna say, yes, here you go,

(05:04):
we'll do what you want for it. No one's gonna
do that. Now, they're gonna wait to see through free
So it's gonna go through free agency, and if the
Seahawks don't come down from that, it's gonna go through
the NFL Draft because teams are gonna say, well, there's
a lot of receivers we like, there's good receivers were
we are Okay, we are, maybe it's not quite what
it was a year ago, but we'll find good receivers
in a lot of places. And then DK Metcalf's gonna

(05:25):
sit because the Seahawks are gonna say, we wanted too
much for him. Like I I I get, I get
the whole we're gonna we're gonna go really high and
see who wants us to to match our price. But
they can't be serious. But this is how it's gonna go,
and all they're gonna do is wind up hurting themselves.
I would I would put out there because I know

(05:45):
how to make deals, whether it's in fantasy or not.
And I can tell the Seahawks says, hey, put something
out there that's competitive and then let teams ratchet it up.
For you. Right, that's a It's like when you sell
a house. Right, when you sell a house, they don't
put it out a price where well, we we want
to sell this house for two and a half million dollars. Well, okay,
your realtor is gonna say, okay, we're not gonna list

(06:06):
it two and a half million. If that's what you
want to get, we're not gonna why because it's too
much and it's gonna turn people off. And what we
want to do is go below that and get a
little bit of a bidding war. Hey, here's the house.
We're gonna list the house a two point one million,
a two point two million, and I guarantee you by
the time this is all done, it will be up
at two point five million. That's how you get it
to two point five million. Engage people and make them

(06:27):
and make them think, okay, hey we can get close
to this, and then then you get it back and forth. Right,
It's how it works. It's how you know, It's how
Scott Boris does it with his clients. It's how you
need to do it. When you want to you want
to get the best deal for somebody saying this, Teams
are calling and they said, we're talking. Everybody's teams are
calling take are you serious with this? Are you really
serious with the first and the third when we got
to pay him and he's a walk away guy. Really

(06:48):
you're serious about that? Yeah? Thanks? So that could be
how they're talking to people. This is how you get
deals done, right, and and and and and the old way,
this way of hey, we're gonna ask for the mood
and just see if someone meets. If someone's stupid enough
to meet our asking price, we're gonna do it. Nobody
does that. Nobody does that. Aaron Rodgers needed to go
to the Jets forever and it was one of the

(07:10):
jets gonna come up whether the Jets know, hey, we
don't need to come up all that much, will come
up whatever we need to when it's all said and done.
And that's exactly what happened. Right, we'll come up a
little bit in the pawer a. Right, great, that's what
we'll take. So this is this is how things get
done and the way things are at right now with it.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
This is not how it's gonna get The other is
he's not the only one on the market. Like there's
a lot of guys either free agents or where you've
had whispers that they're available. Right Brandon aug Re signed
with the forty nine ers last year he got hurt.
They've been whispers all off, even with Deebo already being
sent off, that if the price is right, come and

(07:46):
get him right the list, Adams are Uk Keenan Allen,
Hollywood Brown is a free agent, Amari Cooper, Stefan Diggs,
Chris Godwin, who's the guy you circle and all of this?
Ye Westbrook Akine down in Tennessee, who's big body and
guy who's gonna be a lot cheaper.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
And every four weeks he's a guy that people go, oh,
maybe i'd pick him up in fantasy. If you pick
him up and the next two weeks you wave him,
then he says, and then you pick him up again
three weeks later.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
But think about it, if he actually had a quarterback
that could complete a pass, would be some regularity and
not to the other team. Keep going, Tyreek Hill could
be had? How much is there still a situation going
on there? But any Christian Kirk got delta. All I'm
saying though, is there's another marketplace. So if you're coming
off the top, rope saying I need a first and
a third And by the way, this is what he's

(08:34):
on the books for. And he's probably gonna mess up
any long term plans because you have to come to
an agreement on an extension immediately.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Yeah, that's a lot. I'm not carrying me.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
I'm giving you top notch picks to go along with
that price tag. Some of it is I got to
get a little bit of a discount to let you
have your thirty million dollars off the books.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
So there's your first tricky. The second one you mention
it Christian Kirk, who is everybody's fantasy darling as long
as he's healthy. They've agreed to obtain him or trade
him in division to the Texans who were in search
of another wide receiver who hoping they can stay healthy
opposite Nicocollins. Right, get the stage brush out there, you know.
And here's the thing. Two years ago, I would have

(09:16):
been really excited about this deal. But number one, the
fact that the Jacksonville Jaguars are willing to trade him
within the division. That should be a red flag because
you don't trade anybody with the division and come back
and hurt you twice a year. You don't do that.
The fact that tells me, hmm, they know something about him,
either medically or what he can do on the field,

(09:36):
and they are eminently okay with saying, hey, we're okay
with you. Coming back to Haunus, I get the desperation
for the Texans because last year was supposed to be
the Texans year, and you thought they were all set
at wide receiver, and now you wonder do they have
enough weapons at all? Because when they go into last
year with Okay, Nego Collins is terrific, right, unquestion number one,
he is fantastic. They go gets to Von Diggs, Tank

(09:59):
Dell is to but Stefan Diggs misses most of the
season with a bad knee injury, and then you watch
Tank Dell get hurt again the second bad knee injury,
second year in a row, missing the season. You're you're
the Texans. You need something. I would have gone a
little bit more than just hey, let's go get Christian Kirk,

(10:20):
who has also had a problem staying on the field, Like,
I don't know that the Texans where everybody's Super Bowl
Darling a year ago at this time. Look how deep
they are. Look at the weapons they have. Look how
good they are at this point. I don't know if
if their window with this group is closed, because really
you're going out and saying, Okay, our second ride receiver
now is gonna be Christian Kirker. We're hoping is gonna
come back? Right, you're already not getting enough tight end?

(10:41):
What are we gonna do? Are we? Are we still
this good? C? J? Stroud? Still really this good? Is
Demko Ryans? Is this team still really on the rise?
And as good as you look they looked last year
going in, it's the exact opposite this year. I get
the desperation for the trade. And Kirk is a guy. Okay,
we'll get him and put him out there and see,
but he's more a lot of ticket then a more
we got to get a number two.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Yeah, it's just a move, right at this point, it's
just a he's a guy. I mean, take Dell just
had his ACL surgery earlier this week, right, so he's
not coming back like that's that. That's done at least
till mid season. And that's the aggressive here we are
in twenty twenty five. Look how fast guys can come
back from ACL repairs. But yeah, they won't be done there.

(11:23):
They also need offensive lineman. Right, we watched that. Even
with the greatness that Joe Mixon displayed throughout much of
the season, there's a lot there the beauty for the Texans.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
What the hell else is there in the division? Colts? Yeah,
eh man, the Jaguars.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
Look what they did today, the Christian Kirk trade, Evan
Ingram got released, Duverne got released, Reynolds got released, Darby
reade lawn and Mitch Morse retired.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
You're good, Lure, yeah, retired, good Vor Lawrence good.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Yeah, let's set him up for great success with all
of those bodies.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
And that's just kind of day one.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
So free agency being next Wednesday, so before then, a
lot of rumor, conjecture, speculation. But yeah that first and
third and thirty million on the other No, for CJ. Stroud,
he goes, who else you gonna bring me? Because I
gave you a short list. I didn't get halfway down
the list. Sure, there's a bunch of wide receivers out
there that might be able to help things, but like

(12:19):
the Bears addressed earlier in the week, you can have
all the bells and whistles you want.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
You got nobody protecting you. It's a long season. CJ.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Stroud is still picking himself up off the turf. I
feel better, and this here's a here's your hot take.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Let's go. I feel better going into next year about
Caleb Williams than they do about CJ.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
I feel better about Caleb Williams. I told you last night.
I know you're upset that I told you. I know
I told you last night watch out. All they needed
is to let's get the protection to where he's not
panicked when as soon as he gets the football, because
that was something that they ran into when he should
have been progressing the last five or six weeks. Every
time he got the football, he was under siege, and
that's not how you progress. And he is a guy

(13:00):
that makes great plays when he's able to get outside
the pocket and throws on the run, but he can't
run for his life, and you see that effects his
decision making. Now you brought in two Pro Bowlers, one
guy's an All Pro and in tuning, and I'm telling
you I feel better about Caleb Williams. Neck I'm just
saying that. I say that, but I feel better about
him next year. You told me we were rutting the
great things last year. But I might just be it,
just like the Pistons, I might just sing ahead.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
I might just be Yeah, I just got to learn
to play on time, and I will be consistent.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
I'll say it right here, right now.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
On March sixth, first time Ben Johnson calls a trick
play with alignment or something. Look the Chicago and in
me will be happy if it's a positive result.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
I'll still curse him out for making the call exit
out about a Fresco exit swollen dome. Jason Smith Mike
Harbon live from the ti iraq dot com studios. About
halfway to go in the fourth quarter, Nicks lead the

Very nice, very nice, Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. There it is been
an update from the Venice Bowling playoffs right there.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
What a big night it is.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Yeah, it's a red carpet kind of thing. Getting ready
for the finals, getting ready for you gotta get ready
for the final. Happy anniversary. This is uh uh, this
is two twenty five, twenty seventy seven anniversary, Big Lebowski.
M hmmm uh nixt Lee. The Lakers right now, ninety
one to ninety with about four and a half to

(16:14):
go in the fourth quarter. We told you was gonna
get closed because the Knicks just don't close. And that's
kind of where we are right now. We'll have more
in this game coming up in a few minutes, but
joining us now. I'm the hotline, our Vegas insider. You
can follow them on Twitter at Todd Furman, that is
at Todd Furman. Check out his bet the Board podcast
see him on CBS. Todd, what's happening about? How are you?

Speaker 4 (16:36):
I'm doing well. The Knicks apparently showing that they're the
best three quarter team in the NBA. So if you
can get games short, move about thirty six minutes, the
title dream could be on in Gossam for the Knicks
to raise a banner at MSG.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
Oh yeah, I'm feeling really good. Just like how like
for most of the two thousands, Like if Mets games
were seven innings, they would have like eight World Series titles.
You have If games are like thirty six minutes, the
nick would be undefeated.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
I mean, look, you always have to go back and
cherish those Armando Benitez Mets teams. It's a part of
you that will live in infamy for better or worse,
and all of that scar tissue, and you guys eventually
break through again and win the Commissioner's Trophy will all
have paid off.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
All right. So, Todd, when we take a look now
what's going on getting ready for the NFL Draft, there's
a lot of smoke and mirrors. Who's taken up at
the top of the draft. Maybe it's Abdual Carter, Maybe
it's Travis Hutter, maybe it's cam Ward. What are you
hearing right now? What are the odds like, who's that
favorite right now to go number one?

Speaker 4 (17:31):
We've seen a massive move, relatively speaking, in market that
doesn't have that much liquidity towards cam Ward are About
ten days ago, going into the combine, Ward was listed
right around minus a dollar seventy five, meaning you needed
to risk a dollar and seventy five cents to make
a dollar coming back. We've now seen that price fly
out to minus three twenty, with an implied probability well

(17:53):
north of about sixty five percent. The interesting dynamics though,
in play for a couple of national books that are
offering the team to pick first overall in the draft.
We've seen the odds and the Titans retaining their pick
come down substantially. So while books believe that cam Ward
will be the first player off the board, they're not
nearly as confident that it'll be the Tennessee Titans taking
the Miami product with the.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
First over le Oh, okay, so who's so tell me now,
who are the teams that could move up that are
up there on that list.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
I mean, there's a number of teams that could potentially
find themselves sliding into that spot. But if you believe
the betting board, which again you always have to preface,
these markets not nearly as efficient as what you typically
see with a given time of year, and you're talking about,
you know, betting single games that are out there. But
in terms of teams that have moved up for that

(18:41):
number one pick, you've seen the odds in the Cleveland
Browns shortened. You've seen odds on some of the other
teams picking, you know, inside that top five get a
little bit shorter. So maybe it's books as much hedging
their bets as anything else in this particular regard. But
of course the team to keep your eye on would
be the New York Football Giants, who are neck and
neck with the Tennessee type.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
John How big a marketplace is it for the futures?
For the draft and going slot to slot?

Speaker 4 (19:08):
People would lead you to believe it it's a big market,
but the way things are trending, there are more and
more offerings available, but it's harder to move larger sums
of money. So it's a market that creates a lot
of buzz. Sports books don't love to necessarily book it,
but they'll typically give lower limits to some of their
players that are there. And you know, people want to
talk about football, so you'll see all sorts of odds

(19:28):
about the first player at individual positions to be drafted.
And it's important to read the fine print there because
when you look at the wide receiver market, Travis Hunter,
not listed as a wide receiver, will go in as
defensive back. So Tetro McMillan kind of the odds on
favorite to be the first wide receiver off the board. Ashton, Genties,
you guys can imagine an overwhelming favorite to be the
first running back selected. And then things get a little

(19:50):
bit more interesting at the tight end position, where Tyler
Warren is still a heavy favorite. But you've seen the
odds short and substantially on Michigan product Holston Lovelin, and
I actually think he offers a little bit of value
there if a team decides they want a true prototypical
tight end that'll fit a little bit more of the
Travis Kelsey Molden.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
All right, Todd, we've watched the stock drop at least
in social media and on television of Shador Sanders the
last few days that maybe now the way the quarterbacks
go is cam Ward and maybe Shador Sanders is a
little bit further down the line. Is this smoking mirrors?
Do you think Shador Sanders is you're hearing that he's
still going to go up high? Or could we see
him fall?

Speaker 4 (20:27):
Oh, we could see a drop. But I like what
you did there, Smith, So the stock falling type reference there,
I won't see Sam hanging fruit that's out there, So
well done out of you, Continent radio host. Move Shador
Sanders to be the first overall pick in the draft.
I think that ship is officially sailed in then some.
I mean when those odds opened up, he was around
five and a half six to one, now out to
twenty four to one. It's always tough because the one

(20:47):
thing with the NFL draft that we've seen, all that
takes is one team to fall in love with the player.
So thirty one teams may want to avoid an individual
player for a variety of reasons, but it just takes
one for a player to be drafted ahead of where
oddsmakers have his price peg. And while Jackson Dart seems
to command all the buzz as one of those rapid
risers out there, you still have the Raiders hanging around.

(21:09):
We know the relationship between Shador, Sanders, Tom Brady and
of course Dion there so I wouldn't rule out the
Silver and Black potentially going that route. But it's so
tough to try and get inside the heads of some
of these gms in terms of how this PR campaign
is going. Our team's looking to try and put some
negative sentiment out there, hoping that a player will fall
to them, And as we've seen in the past, it's

(21:30):
a lot more smoke and mirrors now in the draft
than we probably would have seen five, seven, even ten
years ago.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
So Schador's probably at six and a half for his
draft position.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
I mean that should be a fair number for right now.
I would expect that you would take a little bit
of over money on that particular number or heavily juice,
but we have not seen over under for individual players
posted yet. It's more some of the index markets that
are out there, as books know, they can hold a
significantly higher percentage with a lot of the positions, and
as we get closer to the draft, then you'll start

(22:03):
to see a little bit more diverse draft bet offerings.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
At a lot of the national books that are out there.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
All right, Todd, We're going to see a big record
broken in the NHL, maybe by the end of this season.
I saw you had a bit on it on social media.
The odds for alex Ovechkin to now break Wayne Gretzky's
record this season have improved immensely. Which side do you
like on this? Does it happen before the end of
the season, has happened early next year?

Speaker 4 (22:29):
You know, the hockey fan in me says, yes, I
think it does happen this season. The better in me
is not willing to get anywhere close to laying the
price required to try and get there, because, unlike the
Lebron James record that we saw broken, you kind of
forecast what an NBA player is going to do. Even
on an off night. For an elite scorer, he's going
to score put in fifteen to twenty. But a goal
scorer with a talent of Alexandrovechkin, and given all that

(22:51):
the Capitals have in front of him, wouldn't shock anybody
if he went five, six, seven games without being able
to find the back of the net. Now, what's interesting
about Ovi and it's something that the have done, you know,
in the last handful of years. He's going to be
out there every empty net chance that they have as
they're playing with the lead, and when you're one of
the best teams in the league, you have a lot
of those opportunities. So I think OVI gets it done

(23:11):
when I encourage people to go out there and lay
the price of right around minus two dollars upwards of
minus two twenty. Absolutely not, but I do think it's
pretty funny if Gary Batman and Wayne Gretzky, who have
said they will be in attendance when Obi has a
chance to break the record, end up having to fly
to five to six regular season games at the end
of the year, have to have to drag that chase
out to the middle of October. If Obi doesn't break

(23:33):
the great Ones, you know, all time goal scoring.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Record, chaos ensues, no doubt, watching a thriller in the NBA.
As we're talking to you, Todd, how big is the
list of potential viable contenders here in the NBA?

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Did the Lakers now crash that list? Realistically?

Speaker 4 (23:51):
I mean, look, it's a Lakers team that has star power,
and we've seen in the playoffs. All it takes is
a couple of guys to get hot. We still have
plenty of questions, and rightfully so, about the Lakers team
and how they played defense all but you're seeing tonight
then engaging the Knicks in a rock fight, and you know,
potentially finding a chance to erase what was at one
point a double digit deficit and sneak away with a victory.

(24:12):
So books continue to take Lakers money in the future market.
You can understand how public a team they are. All
But the one thing that's interesting is books are still
extremely unwilling, and rightfully so, to drift out the price
on the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the Western Conference.
But when you look at some of the bigger books
that are out there, the Lakers now the fourth favorite,
behind the tandem of teams in the East that have
clearly distanced themselves in the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers,

(24:34):
and second on the board in the Western Conference behind
only the Oklahoma City Thunder, and depending on the book,
kind of neck and neck with the Denver Nuggets.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Todd. When you look ahead, now, we're going to a
big conference championship weekend starting now. In the smaller conferences
the next weekend, I have said that there is nothing
going to get me off of Saint John's to win
the championship. Nothing's gonna get me off of them. It's
a good with unbelievable story. And look, they clearly are
a that is ready for March with their guard play

(25:02):
and the way they play defense. Right now, if I
said to you, hey, give me a team that you
really like, that you like for the final four National Championship,
that hey might be a little bit off the beaten path.
Who are you giving me?

Speaker 4 (25:14):
You know, here's the thing with Saint John's. I'm not
going to argue with the potential upside for the Johnnys there,
but their number is about as short as you're gonna find.
I mean, they're the seventh favorite on the board, behind
you know, the elite teams from the SEC and the
Dukes and Houston's of the world. So unfortunately, I think
that ship has kind of sailed, especially before we know
what the draw that the Johnny's will have in front
of them looks like. And their number now is lowest

(25:36):
plus four forty to make the final four. When I'm
looking a little bit further down trying to find that
sleeper that's Cinderella I'll give you a team from the
Big twelve, and I'll give you a team from the
Big ten. I've think Texas Tech right around thirty to
thirty five to one. You know, a veteran group that
has some capabilities if things were to break the right
way with a very good head. Coach got knocked out
early last year, and I think sometimes that scars issue

(25:58):
actually works in their favorite So look for Grant mccasm's
team to be able to do some damage. So I
would make a case for them. And when we're looking
in the Big ten, I know a lot of people
have gravitated towards Maryland, but I have some questions about
their guard play. I actually like Wisconsin a little bit,
and I think at fifty to one, you could do
a lot worse than backing the Badgers. Here credit to
Greg Guard who's entered the Badgers into the twenty first century,
not trying to win every game twenty to eighteen, playing

(26:21):
in front of the peach basket like the old days.
And if Wisconsin shoots the ball halfway decently from the outside,
I think they're a legitimate threat. So Badgers at fifty
to one and Texas Tech, and that's thirty to thirty
five to one if you want to stay away from
the Dukes, the Auburns, the Floridas, the Houston's and Tennessee
in the world.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
He's on Twitter at Todd Furman. That is at Todd Furman.
Check out the bet the Board podcast. Everything you need
another big weekend in Vegas. Todd as always, buddy, appreciate it. Man,
we'll talk to you next week. Have fun.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
You got it, gentlemen, have a great weekend.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
Thanks stopping down to here, goes Todd Furman, and look,
nothing's I mean, I know Saint John's is just too trendy,
but all right, Saint John's.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
All the way up. Remember when you had him at
one hundred to one when we.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
First met, how it was that I make a lot
of Now I go to parlay because I'll tell you what,
I'll go. I like Saint John's and USC. If I
parlay Men's and women's, I'll go Saint John's USC. One
of what odds I get on that interesting? Yeah, So
the twenty five to one. In many spots you can
still find a forty or forty five for Saint John's.
Couple of outlyers, So do your shopping folks. So let

(27:23):
me tell you what's going on right now. At the
crypt nine seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Knicks
have the basketball. The game is tied with the Lakers
at ninety nine a piece. Luka Doncic and Lebron James
now both with twenty seven Both could be closing in
on a triple double if we wind up seeing overtime. Meanwhile,

(27:43):
for the Knicks, Jalen Brunson thirty one and ten Karl
Anthony Town's twelve and thirteen rebounds, the Knicks will have
the ball with one last chance to for a game winner,
or it looks like we could be headed to overtime.
A couple of fouls called in the last couple of minutes,
maybe not fout, but one call in favor of the Lakers,
one call in favor of the Knicks. It's okay. The

(28:05):
game is where it should be. Less than ten seconds
left to go, the Knicks with one more chance to
potentially win this at the buzzer.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
They've also put in a rule I think in this
game that if you hit a big shot in the
final three minutes, you have to do the I've got
ice in my veins thing.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
Oh Yeah, that's a whole thing. Oh no, he.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Didn't get it off.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
What happened?

Speaker 2 (28:23):
He didn't get it off.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
Oh, he didn't get it off. Okay, so the Nicks
couldn't get it off. The Knicks had a tough time
inbounding the ball, but they got it in. Jalen Brunson
is double teamed. The Lakers get the Knicks get the
ball to Heart. Heart has a layup, but it looks
like he doesn't get it off in time. He dribbles

(28:44):
to the hoop and his Nope, the ball is still
in his hand when the clock knicks, Zros, Yeah, it's
still clearly in his hand. He's got to know you
don't have that much time. Man, he got passed, Luca, Luca.
Look at the great d Luca played so well. He
did talk to JJ Red when he hit that three.

Speaker 3 (29:01):
Right, that's one of the guys that got really chasing.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
You realize if he lets go that ball point two
seconds earlier to the next win, probably, Yeah, I realize
the game is going to overtime now, right, going happens
to the next and overt overtime. You thought there were
gas there, Okay, Yeah, it's gonna be tough. Despite but
Spike Lee is gonna play. They scored fifteen points in Yeah, yeah,

(29:25):
I know, I know what that a chance. I mean, look,
you gotta a chance when when when you have trouble
inbounding the ball and you have to inbound the ball
and you're under the court, you don't have as much
time as you need to. You got to be able
to get that shot off. It was a great decision. Look,
Brunson is doubled. He steps through the double and gets
the ball to Josh Hart who hesitates. And if Heart
doesn't hesitate, if he drives to the to the rack
right away, he gets the shot off. But he hesitates,

(29:47):
like him go and take a jumper. Then he sees
he has the lane and he doesn't get it off
in time. He saw Luca was there and he's salivated.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
Yeah yeah, yeah, And then Lebron flashes right as he
goes to release the ball after the red has already
hit the back.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
I will say Luca has spent a lot of time
tonight complaining to the referees. Like the old Luca that
we have seen, like haven't had it. That's one thing
we haven't seen a lot of since he's been with
the Lakers as him complaining to the refs. This has
been one big Now he's been whistled for five fouls
so far tonight, but it's been a marked difference in
the number of times he is he is complaining about
a foul or some play the way it has been,

(30:22):
the way it's been called. So this is back to
the old Luca. Oh I forgot about Luk. He likes
to do this well.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
I would say this has been a game where he
has been beaten up. The Knicks have have slapped him,
hit him, punched him, moved him at every turn. Uh
And he's shown his disdain for it throughout, like looking
at and getting into it a little bit with Knicks players,
but certainly with the officials.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
Mostly it's like the Nickson Remember, oh, this is how
we play defense. Oh right, I got it, got it,
got it, can't close out run through him. Uh So
this game headed overtime for find out right now, what's
trending in the wide world of sports. We'll go to
somebody who's been called the Luka Dancic of Fox Sports Radio,
yapping out officials. It's I mean, no cap.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
No cap sons about right.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
I thought you were gonna say the flopping.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
I was like, I don't flop. No, no, no, no, no, no,
you're right.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
Yeah, you're right. When you're right, you're right. Because I
could see you at a game standing up. Do you
scream at the official absolute whether I'm in it or
as a fan, I'm yelling you all, Like I would
get to the point where I would say, I think
she's gonna walk on the court. I think Mancy's going
to walk on the court. Spike Lee does it? Why?

(31:33):
Spike Lee? Thank you? I think right below Spike Lee like, Rightie,
I think I think you're about to say, yeah, we
might be, we might be.

Speaker 5 (31:42):
Yes, guys, we're starting overtime. Something to keep in mind
is that Luca DNCS does have five fouls to start overtime.
Tied at ninety nine, Nicks and Lakers. What happened earlier
today in the NBA, Well, Steph Curry dropped forty points,
including seven threes. Warriors were down twenty two at one point,
they came back and beat them, and that's one twenty
one to one. Nineteen. Golden State has won eight out

(32:03):
of their last nine. Kobe White had a career high
for the Bulls forty four points. They edged the Magic
one twenty five to one twenty three. Orlando has lost
five in a row. Orlando did announce that Dwight Howard
is going to be inducted into the Magic Hall of Fame, though,
on March twenty fourth. Jason Tatum thirty five points. Tonight,
the Celtics crushed the seventy six Ers one twenty three
to one oh five.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Trey Young a double double.

Speaker 5 (32:23):
Twenty two points and sixteen assists as the Hawks outscored
the Pacers won twenty four to one eighteen, and the
Rockets top the Pelicans one oh nine to ninety seven.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
I've got baseball news for you.

Speaker 5 (32:34):
I know the A's who haven't spent money in years
are spending more money.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Well, they has to have to get to the floor.
Yeah's right.

Speaker 5 (32:42):
So outfielder Lawrence Butler seven year, sixty six point five
million dollar contract extension that includes a club option. It
is pending a physical. So they've also signed in the
last four months Luis Sevarino to a three year, sixty
seven million dollar deal and Brett Rooker to a five year,
sixty million dollar deal. So that's the latest. In an
interview with ESPN and Spanish. Vladimir Guerrero Junior refuted claims

(33:05):
that he was expecting a deal comparable to Juan Soto's
deal with the Mets, which was fifteen years, seven hundred
and sixty five million. He actually revealed that his camp's
final offer was for about fourteen fifteen years and under
six hundred million, and Toronto didn't take it.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
So Toronto didn't have that kind of money, but sure
you find it in Toronto. Somebody's gonna swoop them up.
I want that money, but I'll sign for fifteen years. Okay,
that's great. Someone's gonna swoop him up. That's okay. He'll
be playing first base for the Mets next year after
they let Alonzo. That's how it's gonna happen. You threw
that up. You loved us like he's just coming in

(33:42):
for the dunk. Is that really what's gonna happen? Hundred
percent right in Alonzo this year. It's happening right that down.

Speaker 5 (33:48):
Absolutely, We're gonna put this down and see if it
is true.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Okay, thank you, Monsie, Fox Sports Radio, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, Luka.
Doncic has just hit a three from deep to give
the Lakers a one O four ninety nine lead over
the Knicks. He's got the first five points of overtime
three and a half to go. Coming up next. We
breaking down this game, much to the chagrin of Charles Barkley,
who has lit the sports world on fire with something

(34:12):
he said about the Lakers tonight. That's next, right here,
Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio, dodge it Jobson, look
up dodgic por is it up? Twenty seven footer.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Oh boy, buckle up, stop stop. Game one of the
NBA Finals, Lakers Knicks coming down to the final minute.
Lakers have a two point lead. However, things have just
changed as far as the stakes in this game. Jalen

(34:58):
Brunson goes in for a layup and the Lakers are
called for a foul. Brunson comes down on Austin Reeves' foot.
His foot comes down on Austin Reeves' ankle. He is
in a lot of pain. The Knicks are trying to
work on him on the floor and you can see
he is yelling he is not feeling right now this look,

(35:20):
this is not a dirty play. They're looking at the
foul right now, looking at the play. He simply comes down.
Look at Donci's Rakes has in the face, So I
think there's your foul. But he comes down and just
lands awkward, you know, because you're challenging the call Onves. Yeah,
and he comes down, Yeah, Reeves, that's a foul. Reaves moving, Dawston.

(35:40):
Reeves is moving the entire time. Of course, that's a foul.
It's just not a dirty play because Bronson simply comes
down and lands challenge on his on his ankle. He's
out there acting like they got to amputate his leg,
and maybe they do. And if they do, I'm amputating
your leg and giving it to him. And then I'm
gonna take that leg that you amputated for me. Beat
you over ahead with him. There you go. He's played

(36:02):
forty minutes. The man is tired. I'll get you.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
The man is tired. That was a sucker. I'm gonna
lay around for three minutes. I'll get that on. So
time has stopped right now, Buck twenty four left to go.
The officials are looking at the foul call. It looks
like Brunson's gonna try to stay in the game. He
has not moved very much, but maybe he is okay.
But the challenge that the Lakers have made is unsuccessful.

(36:27):
So it's gonna be two free throws for the Knicks
coming up again, one o seven to one oh five,
a buck twenty four left to go. Yeah, so Donjitch
is the first to challenge, kind of swipes across Brunson's chest.
How much he contact upper body right up ahead, you know,
the head and shoulders area, don't know, but gets away
with the foul there. But then the Reeds makes the challenge,

(36:47):
gets Brunson.

Speaker 1 (36:48):
On the arm.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
They collide, go to the ground, Lebron with the block
for good measure, making sure the ball gets nowhere near
the rim. And now here we are after the review, he.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
Looks like he's gonna take the free throws, but Brunson's
not not even walking. Well, I wonder if he's gonna
take these free throws and come out of the game,
because he just he just kind of stuttered and limped
to the free throw line like it's hard for me
to walk, not a limping, like hey, I'm alright, I'm right,
but I wonder if he's gonna take these three throws,
how does he have? Well, he'll have two more after

(37:17):
he makes both these free throws. I'm saying, right now,
how about that? Right now he's got thirty seven. I
believe in a row in a row. So I really
wonder if that's what's gonna happen. First free throw is
up and good. He's not even moving, he is just
standing at the free throw line. Nicks bring both big
Bodega back in. H I really it's it's gonna be

(37:37):
something to see if he stays in this game at
this point.

Speaker 3 (37:39):
Yeah, trying to read the countenance, right, he almost looks
like he's holding back back tiers, right, I mean just
seeing we're trying to read the facial expression here as
he's standing on the line one twenty four left. Nails
the second free throw and just stands.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
Yeah, he makes He makes both free throws. He is
standing at the Yeah, look like this isn't good. Ja,
he's coming out. Can't I give him a foul to
get Jalen Brunson off the floor. Uh, he's going right
to the locker room. He is not even do not pass,
go do not collect two hundred dollars. The Knicks committed
foul in the backcourt and Lebron multiple before they actually

(38:19):
got one hilld uh, And I think the referees probably
didn't know this is what they were going to do.
So the Knicks committed foul to get him off the court,
and he just under his own power. But he walks
off the court. He did not even stop nothing to
say anything to his teammates. So now who knows what
this is going to be now for the Knicks Jalen Brunson,
because it's got to be a lot for him to
leave this game at this point one seven, one oh

(38:40):
seven with a minute left to.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
Go, Lakers I think calling for him, So isn't that
an intentional foul?

Speaker 1 (38:45):
We want free throws? And he walked, David guys, Yeah,
he walked right. Oh, come on, Larry, come on, he's
gonna trip him. Uh uh. So watching Jalen Brunson limp
to the locker room right now again, game tied at

(39:05):
one oh seven apiece, minute left to go here, and
all of a sudden, you know, hey, this is fun,
me and Frostburg and all this and who's back and forth?

Speaker 5 (39:13):
Right?

Speaker 1 (39:13):
Yeah, But now I'm like, oh, okay, this is now, this,
this is even worse now now, now it's now, It's okay,
hang on now Suddenly the rest of the season's up
in the air, depending on how this this comes for
Jalen Brunson.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
The final minute of the game, one O seven apiece
Lakers at the foul line.

Speaker 1 (39:28):
But you watch, I mean we got.

Speaker 3 (39:30):
The camera angle into the locker room as well, right
as he turned to go down the hallway.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
I wanted to.

Speaker 3 (39:37):
Hear the first thing when the door shut. What was
the first exploitive? Do you think it came out of
his mouth?

Speaker 1 (39:43):
Yeah? I'm watching the replay again, Jason. His ankle bends like, yeah,
ninety degrees. It's his ankle bends. It bends. It doesn't
bends in is where it is? It bends in when
he lands reaves his foot. No, that's not good. Uh.
And look with the Knicks right now where they sitting there,
forty twenty games over five hundred. Well, I don't know when,
hopefully things are going to be okay for Jalen Brunson.

(40:03):
But yeah, I got a feeling he's not going to
play it when they play the Warriors, and he's going
to be out a little bit, probably the rest of
this West coast trip at least. Yeah, in the initial aftermath, right,
he goes down and we don't see a bunch of
replays as we see. I think with injuries the last
year or two, all leagues being a little less hit
the replay button fast kind of thing to show it
from all the angles. But you know he was on

(40:26):
the ground and kind of holding his ankle as they
went to the video review. So since he had the review,
it became the all right, is he just taken the
time to decomprasse? Right?

Speaker 3 (40:35):
Forty one minutes played? It's a hard forty one minutes.
It's been contested the whole way through, but now we
wonder the gravity of it. I'm sure the Twitter doctors
will be out in force here in moments.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
Minute left to go. Nixt with the basketball, No, Jalen
Brunson came one of the NBA finals. Is everything we've
expected it to be. Give him your ankle, Smith, and
I said that for you, Charles Barkley, I'd give him
my ankle. I give my dad's ankle first. They give
him mind.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
He doesn't need walts, he needs something that that has
the athleticism.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
More on this classic and why Charles Barkley has the
