(01:36):
Always honored to have a couple hours to banter with
my guy as he torments the guys on the other
side of the glass and gives you all such goodness
to get into your weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
They have it too easy, Mike d These produced so easy.
They have it way too easy. Everybody's too nice to them.
It's about time that, you know, when you when I
fill in, I have to give them a little bit
of crap back. They have to They have to work
a little bit when I'm around, you know what I mean?
That don't make it too easy for them.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Wow, yeah, wow, verge of trying to fire guys before.
I mean, look what you did. Ian. I mean Ian's
young and getting his uh look at.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
The s Yeah, he's like me at all. He's crazy.
He wishes I get fired for crying out. Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Wow, Wow, that escalated quickly, and then you and ty
Shirt have this whole other thing going on. I I
don't even know, but.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Yeah, I'm not much into the hippie Californian type guys
out there.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
But oh, now you're calling him a hippie.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Yeah, well, you know, just because you.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Were hanging out with Steve Kerr and Genie Boss and stuff.
Have you watched Genie Buss's show yet?
Speaker 4 (02:42):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I'm not seen Hudson Show. It's pretty good. It just
got renewed for season two. It's worth the worth the spin.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
I'm surprised Genie's not called into the show like Steve
Kerr has you know, I'm called in?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
No, did you just not pick up on hold forgot
about him or what?
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Yes, Steve's not calling it. Gd's not calling in. If
I if I can just have old like high school
uh classmates call it, we'd have a great guest every
week for crying out loud. So many of them went out,
either sports or actors. Our quarterback played in the Super
Bowl for crying out that you didn't know that. No,
(03:22):
he was the quarterback for let me take a guess.
He played for Washington and he played for the Raiders,
So yeah, that you have to go way back for that.
He was he was our quarterback in high school.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
I'm sure he's got stories. I'm sure a lot of
people that didn't go on to fame and fortune have
plenty of stories about you.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
You know, his offensive lineman on that team, and Jacerader's
offensive lineman turned out to be bigger than him. He
Forrest Whittaker, the actor Academy Award winning actor.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
And to think he got it all started by being
a football machine. Fast times at Richmond.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Fast times at Ridgemont High.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Exactly later he became part of the Star Wars universe.
You can go and buy his trading guards now, I mean,
there's so much you can do, Arnie Span you're all
of that exactly. Speaking of guy people collect their trading guards.
Jamar Chase among many that are wondering what the hell's
going on in Cincinnati. Joe Burrow a couple of weeks
ago set the Quiet Part out loud boy. I really
(04:28):
wish we could do what they're doing kind of over there.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Who's there? Is he talking about Kansas City?
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Because talking about Philadelphia and the way allocate resources.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
If you ask me, Cincinnati has better receivers than Kansas City.
You know, you can't spend money just all in one
specific place. And my goodness, Cincinnati really need an offensive line.
You can't just go ahead and spend everything at the
wide receiver position, especially when you could probably take a
wide receiver. I think it's easier for a wide receiver
(05:02):
to come out of college and be a superstar than
just about any other position.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Well that and we always talked about running backs of
that ILK as well. Right third day, guys, now there
are some that are truly exceptional. And I remind folks
all the guys that went on to greatness this year,
It's like, look the renaissance of the running back with
these older guys. I've made this statement many times on
this show, my Sunday Show, and of course on the
Eyewatcher Flex podcast. Like Yes, Jacob's, Henry and Barkley all
(05:30):
went to good teams that emphasize offensive line play in
the run, it is no surprise that they went and
had fantastic seasons. Right ergo, you have the Bears investing
in the offensive line. Detroit another place of exceptional line work.
You saw what Montgomery and Gibbs have been. But I
think Joe Burrow was more speaking to the fact of
(05:51):
look at the way, say, the Rams and the Eagles
are two great examples of teams that have done a
fantastic job in stretching money, managing the cap, and being
able to retain a lot of their key players.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
But very well, the Rams are letting their superstar, well
now superstar, but they're letting their big time wide receiver
going Cooper cup right.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
I know they have Poke twenty one anymore. Well, I
understand that, but you know he's a jag at this point.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
I agree he's probably not.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Nobody's gonna keep it for sentimental value.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
On you brought up the Rams, and I'm like, well,
they're letting their second receiver go, just like t Higgins
would have been Cincinnati's second receiver. Think of all the
money they would save if they didn't give it to
T Higgins. How much they could save using that money
to put on the offensive line or bulls dropped that defense.
That defense was horrible last year.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Well, and that's one of the things we talked about
a lot during the year. Lou Anarumo, a guy that
was wildly praised for what he'd done with that defense
a couple of years ago, and then the cupboard would bear.
And now you've got one guy remaining in Hendrickson and
they don't want to pay him. After Max Crosby's deal,
It's like, yeah, you want to go look and find
a trade. Go find a trade, find someone else who
(07:05):
wants to give you thirty million dollars a year.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
So I bet if you're Cincinnati fans, if I told
you straight up t Higgins for Miles Garrett, would you
do that?
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Sure of course you would every day of the week.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
What about Micah Parsons? Would you do it for Micah?
Would you trade for Micah?
Speaker 3 (07:25):
I might be a little slower, but I'd probably still
hit the except button. Yeah, so I might. I might
draw it out like it's a deal or no deal
kind of thing. Let that somatic music build. I'll tell
Howie Mandel saying press the buttoner don't already.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
I think I'd rather have Cooper cup as my second
receiver in Cincinnati, save a bunch of money, and use
that money to bolster my defense a little bit, you know.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Well, And that's the thing. Joe Burrow is kind of
talking about Right, you have the second franchise tag on
T Higgins, which is gonna be about twenty six million dollars.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Right, he's worth that. He's worth that well.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
But look, he performed really well as a number one
would Jamar Chase was.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
How many games did he miss in the last two years?
Last year he missed a couple. He missed what like
three or four games, didn't they?
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Yeah, so Chase has had some injury. Uh oh Higgins. Yeah.
I mean, look, everybody gets banged up along the way,
no question about it. But yeah, Higgins definitely missed some
time this year. Chase played all seventeen sixteen last year,
go back twelve in twenty twenty two. But it's just
(08:27):
the idea of paying all at one position. And I
think for Burroughs, spot is just watching the massaging of contracts,
extending and doing signing bonuses and converting money to give
yourself some flexibility. Look, the cap went up a bunch too.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
Yeah, but did you see all these big names that
got cut, like Bosa. They couldn't figure out a way
to keep Bosa.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Why would you keep Bosa at that cost?
Speaker 4 (08:53):
No, you just said they're rework. He didn't cut of
it this way of doing that, but massage.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
But he no, but he's at the end. He wanted
another year, Well, sports are he wanted more time? This
is a guy that look, and I defer to guys
that cover the chargers, including my executive producer justin prosper
Just because the guy gets a game played now doesn't
mean he actually played the full game. USA left a
lot of games early. He missed twenty three, but had
(09:19):
a number of others where he played a couple. I'm
not giving him big money, yeah, but he still wants
big money because his.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
Last deal hell on ice water. But that's well.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
But then you may have to make the hard decision
of even though we like the guy, maybe you're not
in love with him anymore. Right, And and for the
cost you'll go back into the marketplace.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
And as Colin says, don't be in love being like
with the guy, right, right? Is that what he always says.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
I have no idea. I'll defer to you on that one.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Yeah, you don't be in love with a player being
like with the player.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Yeah, And it's the recognition of where he is. Look,
he could be in love for a couple of years
if the guy's still performing at an elite level. But
if he's not, and certainly Bosa was not, then it's
time to just say, hey, we had a good run.
Good luck. Go play with your brother up in San Francisco.
Want to give you.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
If you could save money on the second wide receiver
from from T Higgins in Cincinnati, would you take a
Devonte Adams? But then again, he's making big money.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
You're not gonna make dollars. You're not saving, you're not saving.
Gonna want a one year deal?
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Too bad again for him?
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Well, but there's plenty of teams that will find money
to give DeVante Adams amore.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
No, there's not gonna be plenty. No, that's not There's
not gonna be plenty of teams tripping over each other
to give Devanta Adams that type of money. He's at
the end of his career.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
So did you watch him the second half of this
last year?
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Yeah, when when Aaron Rodgers do him the ball every
time every time?
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Yes, still has to catch the ball, aren't he? I
could still ask to get open.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
No, his his days of coming gone. Matter of fact,
I gave you a list of five players that should
have thought about retiring I should have put it in.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
But you also you want everybody to retire. You want
to be the last man standing.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
He's not worth the moment.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Go through your list of guys that should quit.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
Aaron Rodgers is number one. Why. Yeah, because he's not
gonna go to a team that's gonna compete for a championship. Okay,
certainly the last two years have been enough. He could
do so much more. If I'm Rogers, I'm walking away.
I wouldn't have come back after that terrible injury.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Are you not better than half the quarterbacks still playing?
That's not the question. That's not the no, no, no,
that is the questions because when look, retirement is long
except for radio mopes like us, is that the fact
of the matter is if you can still play, I'm
playing until they rip that jersey off me.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
When you're a Hall of Famer. If you're going down
to the point where, well, I'm still better than three
other players, well then there's a problem there. I also
picked Matthew Stafford. I thought he was going to retire,
and I know there's a lot of money left on
the table, so that's why he's coming back, and he
got the new contract. But there was about a five
percent chance. I thought that maybe he'd say, you know what,
(12:08):
if I'm not coming back to the rams, I'm gone.
My wife went through some really really really serious health
issues knock wood, and I thought, maybe he's like, you
know what, I lived a thousand years. In those years,
my wife was sick. We want to enjoy ourselves, we
want to travel. I'm going to retire. A year or
(12:30):
two earlier, then a year or two later. I thought
he was gonna go ahead and maybe walk away.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Yeah, I mean part of it, though, Arn, he becomes
the as much as that stuff. I mean, there's there's
no escaping that reality. That's that's heavy stuff, right, Yes, talking.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
And that takes his toll on you, really, but it
also becomes the you know, for a lot of folks,
myself included, I went through a lot of stuff, right,
I went through a divorce, right, had a number of
illnesses and des in my family.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
You know where I found respite hanging out and talking
with Tiger, ranging out and yelling at you, hanging out
with I at home.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
No, but if you were a gazillionaire and had a
lot of money, you may take your yacht and go flying.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
And but it's failing in love at what you do
and you're still good at what you do well, like
Matthew Stafford has always been acknowledged as the quarterbacks quarterback
Aaron Rodgers never gave compliments to anybody, but he always
loved Matthew Stafford, all the all the greats always pointed
out how good he is. You don't get that forever. Well,
that's that's gone. When you become resentful of other folks.
(13:32):
If you retire while you still don't think you had
a few throws in the.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
You'd retire when you're not walking with a real bad look?
What brings me to my next person? Who is gonna
have a boatload of money, who can make more money
outside of football? Who's dating a girl who has more
money than everybody in the world. At Travis Kelsey, what
do you do? I mean, did he really have to
come back? Especially the way he looked at that Super Bowl?
(13:58):
He was awful. I know you don't want to go
out that way. I'm not so sure I would have
come back. If I was Travis Kelsey, I think I
would have called it a career.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
There were a bunch of reports all week long that
guys were sick him being one of them. He did
get killed for going out to dinner that one night,
so you got that going for you. But I mean,
he's still caught ninety five balls.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
You saw the video of him standing around on the
football field while Mahomes was running around. I mean he
i moved more than him.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
One play was that the tape.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
That's all we saw was that one.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
No. No, But that's my point though, It is like
he dropped a couple of balls that he normally would catch.
I'm not disputing that the catch in that first possession. Look,
we always talk about oh look at game chedule. Ever,
like first downs there were just as important as they
are and later on in the game, right, so down, distance,
field position, all that fun stuff. So yeah, was he
(14:50):
on his game? No? But overall, is he still a
top ten tight end?
Speaker 4 (14:55):
He's not a Hall of famer though, if you're and
think about this.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
It's he's not a Hall of famer.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
No, No, he's a hall of famer, but he's still
playing in a Hall of Fame level. And the answer
is no, he's not playing the Hall of Fame level.
But in the end, here's the deciding for him to
decide here's the end. It looks like he's gonna marry
Taylor Swift, and you're gonna enough to do that outside
of football, So you know, is it gonna be this
year or next year? That's that's my decision has to make.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
You have inside dope that that's happening. I like that.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
Oh that I think I read it in the onion
is okay?
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Good?
Speaker 4 (15:30):
You don't think you don't think those two will get married.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
I don't know. I don't presume to know of you're
a Swift, right, I am very much as swifty. I
traveled Ireland to see your dance. Yes, you did sing,
and that was a great time. My brother and my
daughters and I we had a blast.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
I think I think they'll end up getting married, And
maybe they do, and there'll be a great couple. And
that's another thing he could probably say. You know what,
maybe I will call it a career. I'll move on
the podcasting and I'll move on to move I'll get
myself married. I'll propose we'll get married in the year.
You got to move on with life to.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Have the kids. But you also have your your identity
and at this point you're still the guy coming off
of two Super Bowl wins and a Super Bowl appearance.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
If he's coming back for only one more year, there's
no way he's gonna play one more.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
But think about the Chiefs. If the Chiefs IF and
it's all whiffs and butts, right, guys get hurt. But
all the rhetoric of they had no weapons, they had nothing.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
And they still have the weapons they need wide receivers
got hurt that they get themselves of running back and
they're gonna have a slower tight end. I'm not so
crazy about the Chiefs for next year.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
No, No, the division is gonna be really interesting. See Pyton
does in another year and obviously and the Chargers will
make some moves. It will at least be respectable or
at least that's where we're trending. But but my point
is for Kelsey, like I'm not gonna rip the jersey off,
the guy is. You know, are there are there photos
that didn't don't age well in hindsight? Right, Joe Namath
(17:02):
as a ram or Willie Mays the nineteen seventy three
tops card of him in a Mets uniform. Yeah, I
know those things hit, but in the end, retirement is
long man if you still think you have something to give, Mike,
why are you hanging.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
It up sooner or later. You gotta tell your wife,
let's get rid of the bikini and put on the
one piece. Okay, everybody gets to that age, my friend,
and that's the age at Kelsey's.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
And I say, if you're wanting to wear that bikini, honey,
you your stuff. And that's advice for you too. Arnie Spaanier,
thank you. And that's one to grow on. That's sticking
genius one where you find him on Twitter. He's sending
everybody into the ether. We had other people trying to
get Andy Reid to retire. I mean, what the hell's
(17:47):
going on.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
That's another person who could have maybe thought about calling
it quits and saying that's enough. I've had a really
good run.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
You know what. The greatest thing.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
He Carol said, I'm gonna retire.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
Why are you doing this? Why? Why do you? We
were having such a good show and now all of
a sudden, it's like, Eh, that guy's done. That guy's done.
Everybody's pointing at you. You're one hundred percent wrong. If
someone wants to hire you to go run a team,
and you got that energy and enthusiasm of a forty
four year old at.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
The point, don't do it?
Speaker 3 (18:22):
The point why should he retire if this is what
he loves doing. He never retired, he lost the gig.
They decided to go there, to go their separate ways.
Why should he suddenly say, well, they didn't want me
any more, I'm done. Is that what you do in life? No,
there's a bunch of other doors that may open for you. Oh,
this girl broke up with me. She didn't like the fact,
(18:42):
you know that at my jump shots a little bit off.
As I get older? Are you quitting? No, You're gonna
find another girl that says, I'm like the cut of
your jib.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
I'll give you. I'll give you one more person that
should have retired. Okay, yeah, go ahead. Are you telling me?
And this is kind of ties into the Pete Carroll?
Are you telling me somebody you know, let's say he
used to be the coach of the Patriots. Yeah, as
a young girlfriend. And now you're telling me he's Belichick's
better off in North Carolina instead of saying, you know what,
(19:13):
I had a good run. My girlfriend's on their thirty,
Then me go enjoy my yacht. My plane, travel, enjoy life.
I'm in my seventies. I mean, come on now, enough
is enough for crying out loud now here.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
Arnie is an old tenant of our show here, Jason
in mine. I can't tell you how to feel. I
can make a lot of arguments to try to persuade you.
I can try to give you logical logical takes, right,
that's the goal, and you don't do a lot of
hot take nonsense. In this particular case, you have a
(19:47):
coach who decided he's not done, and we can talk
about it right, Well, we can do the North Carolina
thing they wanted Arthur Smith. I would say, why pay it?
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Well, come on, people wanted to turn them the You
can get an NFL job North Carolin. Don't want to
go with Arthur Smith. I mean, Mike goodness, man, if
you're Bill Belichick, you can coach till you die if
you want to take over some random and program.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
And that might exactly be where he wants to his run.
We'll continue with that, because now we got to we
drifted all the way here to all the people that
you're killing off their careers, anybody else you want to retire,
sending them it might be me at Swollen Dome at
sticking genius one. If you want to get in, he's
Arnie Spaniard. I'm Mike Harmon. This is Fox Sports Radio,
(20:32):
The Jason Smith Show with Me Mike Harmon on Fox.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Hey, welcome back in Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show
with Me Mike Harmon. I have not been retired yet,
despite Arnie's best efforts at Swollen Dome. If you want
to sign a petition, you know, to go fund your
elf to make me self insured, you can send me
into the good Night. That's a genius one for him.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
We'd retire earlier since they make so much more money
that the days of Barry Sanders and stuff like that
are long gone.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
I would say this while they have other opportunities, and
we talk about this all the way down to the
guys coming in in the draft or or where players
may transfer or decide to stay in college. Right one
of the things we've kicked around, I can't verify it,
so I'm not going to go with the numbers and whatever.
But whether Cooper Flagg should sit out this round of
(21:32):
the NBA based on the teams that'll be drafting, most
likely at the top of the draft, and just keep
collecting his nil money and endorsement money, right you two years,
et cetera.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
I mean, if you look, I'm not so sure, and
it'd be ridiculous for him to stay. But what was
that story about Tennessee offering him over eight hundred million dollars?
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Is that? But that's the thing I couldn't I couldn't
corroborate that that wasn't a sentel story that was.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Reported by several outlets. Mike No, I don't know if
the eight hundred and sixty five million was a real
amount of money.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
That's kind of a bit. That's kind of a big
deal there. I mean, because if you just say X
amount of dollars, then yeah, we can talk about it.
But if you're telling me it's near to a billion
dollars for this guy to show up, where do you
get I think it did? I think it discredits the
story though.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
I I but it was picked up and reported by
several outlets. I don't know how much money they did
offer him. I will figure it was probably life changing.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
He look if he does, I mean, seven million dollars
should be life changing the most people shouldn't it.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
There's no doubt. But if you do look at the
worst teams, do you want to play for the Washington
Wizards the rest of your life? The Utah Jazz, the
New Orleans Pelicans, because that's probably the best chances Charlotte
Hornets of really going I know, Charlotte would probably be
a good place for him, but other than that, they
don't sound very appealing. But then again, how appealing are
(22:58):
they going to be in a year from now? You
never know who's gonna be good and who's gonna be bad.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
Well, all I say is this, as we watch the
NBA these next couple of weeks, Mavericks probably aren't rushing
anybody back to play, right, they'll drop out the Spurs
with no when Binyama and.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Yeah, but they're not gonna fish with the worst record, no.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
No, no, But they're still gonna be in the lottery. Yeah,
there's still gonna be a potential destination Charlotte, go play
with the LaMelo ball and all of it. To say,
you don't have to stay in You know, one of
the things we talked about with Mark Stein, Guys don't
stay in one spot. If after a couple of years
you decide you're out, you can go add in a
million different ways. You can go in front of a podium,
or you can go to China, like James Harden did.
(23:40):
You can take down any number of places to just
say you know what I'm done.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
He could go ahead and do his time and then
after that become a free agent. That's a possibility.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
I mean, you don't get to have your super maxes
or whatever. And don't forget do you have those dopey
rules where if you're all NBA and all that nonsense,
winning different and awards, you get the supermax eligibility, which
again is stupid because you got people voting for those
spaces and then deciding whether you get another one hundred
million dollars. It's the most asinine thing is the world, right,
(24:14):
I mean, because because you got hurt this year and
you don't win Defensive Player of the Year, you're not
going to be eligible for a super Max. I mean,
how fair is that?
Speaker 4 (24:22):
But I like Cooper Flagg and I think he deserves
to be the number one pick overall. I just don't
think he's going to dominate the way some of the
so called NBA experts out there feel like he's going to.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
But it's like anything. I mean, we talk about quarterbacks
all the time. You might have all the talent in
the world. You go to a terrible team that has
no infrastructure and can't build around you, You're destined for
to put up good points and be mediocre. I mean,
we've seen it with how many guys go to whatever
your favorite sport is. Hell do it with hockey. We
had the trade deadline today where you had Maya Kulpa's
(24:59):
all over the place of yeah, we didn't get it done.
It's my fault. You know. The coach of the Bruins
with his.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
Brad marshat that was a big trade. You know, they've
had him what since like two thousand and two or so,
I don't know, something crazy. It's like talk about turning
a new page. Boston. No Bergra, no Chara, no Marshan.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
They have.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
They've had one of those guys since two thousand and two. So, uh,
they're going to start from the bottom level up, that's uh.
I mean they've came so close over the years and
now look at him now.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Just but that's the thing, right, it's it's you're not
destined to necessarily stay there and you can change your fortunes,
out play your draft position or decide you're just tired
of where you're at, right the coaches, the the ownership, whatever,
And this is where that Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
Bruins have a lot of draft picks. Fun Bruins I
think have like five or six first round draft picks.
That's how crazy it is.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Now, Yeah, that's the beauty of it. Like you know,
Oklahoma City and Basketball with the ninety seven second round
picks that they've they've got sitting around. I exaggerated.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
We get fired for talking hockey. Are we gonna get
fired for this?
Speaker 3 (26:04):
No? No, we do all we do A bunch.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
Ford is gonna be I mean, Marsh HoTT and Can
Chuck and that's gonna be phenomenal. They're gonna be.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
You're ready for it, right, I Mean, I know the
Kings have hit a skid here of late, but you know,
on home ice, they've been fantastic season long. We've had
some of our our guys go and be very excited
talking about you know, the energy coming out of the
nation's cup, uh and hoping that that continues to carry
over and that hockey continues to push towards the playoffs.
(26:36):
But you know, to the to the point of what
we're talking about of guys in longevity, Yeah, I think
that's part of it, army of you know, a bit
of surprise that we we have the longevity based on
earnings and and career earnings. But it goes back to
the earlier point. Hey, you're not gonna make as much
money doing something else. All the money that you've made
is invested in theory pretty well, So it's money making
(27:00):
more money and opportunities and growing and you can do
a lot of good making another forty million dollars. The
other is retirement age for the average person is what
seventy hit this point?
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Oh geez, I didn't know was that long?
Speaker 3 (27:13):
Well, but I mean when we're talking about what they're
doing with retirement and when you collect full so securit
like those numbers are all changing, right because we're all
living long.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
Sixty seven I believe, yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
I mean it's up to sixty seven. It was not
sixty seven, not ever.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
No, Right when my parents were around.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
There, right, But the point just being that those markers
are moving, athletes are staying in better shape, and they're
still going to live another thirty five years, So why
not play for another two bank, another seventy eighty million dollars.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
You say athletes are in better shape than they are,
but yet I'm not so sure that they miss less
games when it's all said and done. Matter of fact,
they feeling the bet they missed more games than the
athletes back in the seventies and eighties and nineties.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Well, those guys needed their next paycheck, and a lot
of them are delivering the offseason. Parents grew up near
the stockyards in Chicago, and they had guys that were
meet distributors. They were the representatives. They were guys bringing
in and selling beer to the local bars and hanging
out in the afternoon. Part of their job was, Hey,
(28:20):
someone else rolled up the cases. They're shaking hands, and
now they're drinking with the regulars. Hey, we've got the
linebacker for the Bears. And that was the off season job.

about Geno Smith the Big Trade, because that'll lead it
right into a handoff with your guy doing a victory
dance in twenty five minutes, mister Plank. But first we
headed over one final time to wrap up a day's
worth of activity in talking about our retirement.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
No, I know, I'm just kidding about that. I'm just
kidding about to.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
A man who has looked for Arnie's retirement for years,
it's Steve Desager.
Speaker 6 (29:55):
Well, we must talk about Nicola Jokich, who seems to
have been around a few years and is going to
keep adding MVPs. If you saw any of this game tonight,
my goodness, the first thirty twenty twenty game in the
history of the NBA. Amazing Denver at home one in
overtime against Phoenix one forty nine one one joll Kitch
thirty one points, twenty one rebounds, twenty two assists. AP
(30:20):
went back in the NBA archives forty plus years try
and find out how many people had just had twenty five, fifteen,
and fifteen in a game seventeen different games like that.
Yo Kich has had ten of the seventeen. Oh get
out here, Clippers beat New York one O five.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Sure what magic Johnson's on that list?
Speaker 6 (30:41):
Or no, yeah, this went back to the eighty two
to eighty three season. This is just stunning how great
he is compared to history, I mean our history. Games
we've been watching it's ridiculous Wow. Clippers beat New York
one oh five ninety five. Jalen Brunson of the Knicks
out at least two weeks with a sprained ankle. By
the by the way, the Pacers Tyrese Halibert in questionable
for Saturday with a hip injury at Sacramento. Thirty six
(31:02):
points for Zach Lavine and a win over the Spurs
and Aaron Fox one twenty seven to one oh nine.
Minnesota edge Miami Cleveland beat Charlotte by a point. Caves
have won thirteen in a row. Miles Bridge is forty
six points in the loss victories for Toronto and Memphis,
and Oklahoma City won at sixth in a row. In
college hoops, Illinois upset Number eighteen Purdue eighty eight eighty

final weekend of the men's regular season. The first conference
tournament title game is Saturday night. In the Ohio Valley
and Women's Basketball Conference, A tourney's going on this week.
Quarterfinal wins for number one Texas in the SEC and
for the Big Ten wins for USC and UCLA, each
ranked top five. Thirteenth ranked Ohio State edge Iowa sixty
to fifty nine Michigan upset number fifteen Maryland in the NHL.
(31:47):
Vegas shut out Pittsburgh four. I think Vancouver three to
one over Minnesota. Wins for Washington and Winnipeg. The NHL's
trade deadline was today. Defending champ Florida acquired Brad Marshawn,
Boston's injured captain. The Seattle Seahawks straded quarterback Gino Smith
to the Raiders, where he'll play for coach Pete Carroll again.
Seattle gets a third rounder. Washington release defensive tackle Jonathan Allen.
(32:08):
The Titans are cutting pass rusher Harold Landry. Tennessee has
the number one overall draft choice. Next month. The Chargers
are reportedly cutting running back Gus Edwards. Buffalo game linebacker
Terrell Bernard a four year extension. Former Dallas White out
Michael Gallup will attempt to come back. He had been retired.
He just turned twenty nine. Garrett Cole, Yankee star pitcher.
(32:29):
We'll have tests on his elbow orioles. Pitcher Grayson Rodriguez
will miss the start of the season with sore triceps.
Mariners pitcher George Kirby shut down due to shoulder inflammation
five spring training games in Arizona were rained out. In Florida,
Boston won twenty to five over Miami. Trevor Story two
home runs, the winder Walker Buehler Tampa Bay Tide, Minnesota
(32:50):
nine to nine. Catherine Legg will be driving in the
NASCAR Race Sunday on FS one at Phoenix. First woman
in a Cup Series events since danic Ka. Patrick Shane
Lowry leads by two strokes in Orlando at the Arnold
Palmer Invitational. Xanderschoffley barely made the cut today at four
over par. He still hasn't missed a cut in about
two years, fifty eight straight events. The PGA Tour is
(33:13):
in Florida for four straight events, including this week's Arnold Palmer.
Live Golf resumed this weekend. It's going on in Hong
Kong right now, and Sergio Garcia has taken the second
round lead or tied for the lead with Paul Casey.

(34:07):
Fox Sports Radio. I do have one question about Nicoley
Oaks really quick for you thirty twenty twenty game. Do
you think he was able to go and borrow a
sulky and a horse to ride around a track at
a Rapahoe Park or something, because you know that's the
thing he loves most in the world. Right, I don't
know how to do a celebration. I want to go
back and be with my horses. He take. They're able
(34:28):
to hook him up with one of.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
Those I saw the commercially as like that mini horse.
Did you see that one?
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Yeah, it's a bess.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
He just wants to go back and roll. He's not
into the hole fame and you know, glitz and glamour.
That's one guy that really wants to stay out of
the linlight, no doubt about that.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
I would all no Face of the League stuff for him,
even though he's funny as hell and he just released
his first signature shoe. They're pretty cool looking. I might
actually get the purple ones just to vex my daughters.
But you know, he's just one of those guys. We
were talking about players going forever. He's a guy that
I could just see at some point just calling the
Nuggets going.
Speaker 5 (35:04):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
I was about to say, he's not going forever. He'll
he'll call it quid sooner than later. He won't take
it longer than he has do. I promise you that.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
All right, coming up, we're gonna finish with the trilogy.
One is a football story in Gino Smith, the other
cards and cakes. That's right, that's the trifecta. He's already
I'm Mike. This is Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
Hey, welcome back in final couple of minutes with us
tonight Here Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show with Me,
Mike Harmon, No Jason to Night in his place, Arnie Spaniard, Yes,
broadcasting legend, man of the people, jump shooter, ball stopper.
Speaker 4 (35:54):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Was that that correct too? Right?
Speaker 4 (35:58):
Which did you hear the last one?
Speaker 3 (35:59):
Ball stop?
Speaker 4 (36:00):
Yeah? I'm the I'm the ball stopper, don't doubt about that.
My defense is a little suspect, a little bit.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
All right, we got three stories we'll get to. Geno
Smith will be a story number three. Number one? Can
I borrow five hundred thousand dollars plus probably another one
hundred grand for the buyer's premium? Oh?
Speaker 4 (36:17):
Yeah, what are we looking to buy?
Speaker 3 (36:19):
It's the Paul Skiens Major League debut patch card from
tops that's currently up for auction at Fanatics for fifty
five bids with about twelve days, So I might actually
need double that. Can you get me a million? I?
Speaker 4 (36:33):
Well, I wanted to save my money for those jerseys,
the Michael Jordan Kobe jersey you see that?
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Yeah? Those are pretty nice too.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Yeah, how much I heard? Shock said? I'll give you
twenty thousand, but they're worth what like twenty million? Is
that what I read?
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Yeah? I mean that that's the you start getting into
the gamers for specific games.
Speaker 4 (36:51):
And twenty million whatever those two Wow.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
May you're talking global brands of those guys. No question
about if this Skeens is one of the biggest chase
cards we've seen in quite some time. Cool thing. The
buyer's premium that will be paid out. Fanatics is taking
their portion and it's going to fire aid. We talked
about it a little bit last night Smith and I.
You can find the full conversation we had on that
(37:16):
on the podcast of yesterday's show Going Look and Matt
verder Rame. I don't know if you.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
Know this Guyram.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
Yeah, so he was SI now at vert Ram. He
posted on Twitter that he had a little bit of
a fraud issue with his wife's debit card. Yeah, and
Ian and Alex if you want to jump in on this,
here you go. Someone stole my wife's debit card info
and bought eighty dollars worth of bun cakes. Honestly, not
(37:47):
even mad about it. Some dude is just out there
chowing down. He would have bought a TV, could have
bought a drone. Nope, cake bunt cakes are good and.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
It's only eighty dollars. But if if they took my
card and always spend eighty hours, I wouldn't cancel it.
That spends less than my wife. It's like being respectful,
you know, it's like putting a limit on it.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
I just wanted some cake. Maybe you had to fund
a kid's birthday party and was short of funds.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
Yeah, that's that's if you get to spend the might
as well be on that.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
That's there. You go some bunt cakes. You know, those
mini ones go over really well because then everybody can
get the flavor they like. They're called Oh no that
yeah talking. Yeah, So you go small, medium, large kind
of thing. All right, So let's get to the meta
of the topic. Gino Smith third round pick. He goes
(38:36):
to the Las Vegas Raiders, where he reunites with Pete Carroll.
Seahawks appear to be in complete reset mode. Lockett is gone.
They talk about maybe he comes back if he's really
willing to take a substantial discount DK metcalps on the
trading block. But for the Raiders identity veteran quarterback stability, perhaps.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
Does anybody anybody will him? Does he get to say
I want this guy, I want Locket, or I want
this guy, or that's not going to work that way.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
Well, I think if the price is right, sure, but
that also means I think if he's going to come there,
and I don't think he's getting his top dollar right,
because that was part of the deal with the Seattle.
He wanted an extension in excess of forty five million,
and they're like, nah, no, we like you, we don't
love you, and they had a lot of success with him.
(39:26):
Some of the metrics are ridiculous topic. I mean accuracy
and all of those things.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
I mean, you have rock powers, we know that, and
you got rock powers.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
You got bowers, you got your code, We've.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
Got powers, and you got powers. I don't know if
we mentioned him.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
Well with the quarterbacks that could actually throw a pass accurately,
which is why I brought up the accuracy of Geno,
even though he had a high turnover rate. And that's
a little concerning. The last time you got to bring.
Speaker 4 (39:51):
In a wide receiver, there's no question about it.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
Yeah, but that's the beauty of it. The list of
receivers that are available right now or could be had
is pretty coffy. Yeah, Cooper Cup big money so well,
but that's the thing, right, guys that want their big money.
Most of the guys that are on the list of availability,
they're like, yeah, I don't think I'm in. I'd love
to see Devontae Adams go back there or into the.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
Package I saw that. I don't think that. I don't
think I'm past that. I'd move on up from me.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
Well, if Rogers was coming back, you are major statement
on DeVonta Adams, fully, But for the Raiders, I mean
you got Max Crosby to stay a couple of weeks ago,
chirping about maybe he'd want to be traded and be
looking to force his way out. Instead, he gets a
monster deal, which then begets the issue with Hendrickson in
Cincinnati about his deal and the Bengals given him permission
(40:43):
to seek a trade. So I know he's been photoshopped
into a Bear's uniform a lot. But for the Raiders,
you've got a pretty good offensive line, a couple of
pieces there. Defensively, you need some work, but you have
a couple of pieces. You need a running back seven
big time, and you need a big time running back.
Zamir White isn't bad, but you need something over the top.
(41:03):
So maybe this is where you look at Hampton you look.
Speaker 4 (41:07):
Take him. If he's there at number six, that's the
first pick you take, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
You know me, any guy that looks like a fire
plug is my kind of guy. Five seven fireplug. I'm
Mike Harmon and I am not in the Actors Guild.
He's already span your he's not retiring. He'll be back
with you Sunday with Chris Blank. I'll be back with
your Sunday morning, myself and Anita Marx and coming up
in mere moments, the man, the legend, the myth, celebrating
(41:32):
all things Raiders in Oklahoma. It's our guy, Chris Plank.
Thanks to Ian, thanks to Steve de Saga, and of
course thanks for our guy, Alex Tycher for making us
sound so pretty. Go out and do some great things.
People see you soon.
