and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirat dot com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, we'll get into
what team made a move in the last couple of
day Day one of free agency Saturday Sunday that has
made them a co super Bowl favorite. But I promise
this Religions Chargers a few minutes ago. We'll get to

(01:02):
the charges. Dude, Nagie Harris h so last night and
this is something now because my dad will have this
over me forever now, so you know, on Sundays we
always go to trivia, right, We did trivia on Sunday nights, right,
and usually it's our our team is it's it's Pam
and I and my dad and our cousin and a
couple of our friends.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
So we have said is so we have a fake
ID to help out.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
She's gone a couple of times, but usually but Sunday.
But but but but last night she didn't go. So
we go last night and we decide we have a
couple of new people. That's like a So the guy says, hey,
you know, we're getting ready to start in a minute,
and we decide, oh, let's break up the teams, right,
because the all the other teams that were there didn't
have six people, right, because you can have up to
six people, and usually it's six people six people, and

(01:45):
it's kind of, you know, it's not really fair when
when that happens. Right, So it's like, okay, so we'll
we'll break up. So we break up. So it's me
and Pam and our and our cousin on one team,
and it's my dad with two of our other friends.
And he's known them forever, so it's fine. Your dad
wearing his Garrett Cole Jersey.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
No.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I oh, I did tell him that though.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Last night I go, hey, I said, hey, Dad, I said,
Garrett Cole's gonna get Tommy John.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
And he looks at me and he goes, that's expected.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
But it's not like I could tell him he because
he used to be able to tell him stuff. He
would go no blank really, he would go no blank,
really yeah? And I go, yeah, that's expected because not
already like I think he. I think he unplugged after
they lost Soda to the Mets. Like my dad's been,
he's been really upset.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
I was just gonna ask if there was a larger
question you just needed to Dad. You doing okay? So
hit with with heel and now with Garrett Cole.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
I can't wait to tell you this, Dad. Yeah, but
now it doesn't matter because now my dad's got this
over me. So we we go through trivia and the
two big questions, right, the two We had one big
sports question, which I always tell you that's the pressure
is when your team looks at you and they go,
here's a sports question, and they just look at you like.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
You're going to answer this.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
So last night it's the it's the it's the last
round so the next to last question and it says okay,
it's sports okay, and you know.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
So we're sitting there with the paper to.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Write it down and he says, okay, which NBA Star
holds the record? And in the middle of this question,
Pam hands me the piece of paper in the pen
and says, go do it. And I just go, oh,
I got to hear the question.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
Now.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
I'm like, oh, now, I got to get this right.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
She went full Denzel. He just said he'll sit back.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah. Everybody saying bout go do it right.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
So I'm like, oh, come on, man, really, So I
was like, what NBA Star holds the record for most
Valuable Player awards with six?

Speaker 3 (03:25):
And I thought of for a second. I said, oh, no,
I got it. That's cap. That's create updl Jabbard right down,
Cream Jabbar. We get it right.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
My dad goes ah, I said Bill Russell. I said, Dad,
you're just not as smart as I am. Ah, come on,
get right right. So we go to the last round
and we're winning, but you can risk up to twenty
points on the last question, so we're only up by
like seven. So basically, if they get it right and
we get it wrong. They can beat us. So the
question is the question is this. Of the four tallest

(03:51):
statues in the world, three of them feature this religious subject.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Who is it?

Speaker 1 (03:58):
And we're like, oh boy, and we're sitting here thinking
I don't I'm like, I don't know, I don't know,
and I go, oh, it's probably Jesus because I'm thinking
Christ the Redeemer in Rio.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
I said, okay, it's got I mean, how big. You know,
that's everywhere.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
I'm like, okay, right, So I go okay, So I go, Pam,
what do you think she was? That's what I wrote down.
I said, Okay, great, we'll go with Jesus. So, uh,
did you want to change religions? So we we put it?
We put in and and I'm going okay, okay, okay
and uh and they go all right, all right, and
here's your answer, and they go okay, and the answer
is you guys know the answer. Oh, I'm gonna take
a guesh you know, guy prospert, it's gotta be Buddha, right, Buddha.

(04:32):
Three out of four of the biggest statues in the
world feature Buddha.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Buddha is a big guy.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah, well, Buddha's kind of smaller and a little bit wider.
It's a big statue. Yeah, so that's the answer. So
as soon as they say Buddha, I go, we go,
we our team goes ah, and my dad turns me
and goes, no, who's the smartest guy in the world,
because he got it right. He said he knew it
was Buddha, and they got it right, and they beat us.
And now he's got that over me, like until the

(04:58):
next time we do trivia and I can find a
way to get an answer right.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
That he didn't get right. But you have one.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
So that's that is true. True, that is true. I
got one soda and you have garrikle.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
My mind him that Domingus can't catch, has no elbows.
Half of your starting rotation is already gone. But but
you're gonna start getting little Buddhist statues all over Oh yeah, sure,
oh sure, sure, send you a little emoji's a buddhas.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Yeah, you're gonna get the smelly Buddha.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
The way he turned and looked at me, like ah.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Like when like when when?

Speaker 2 (05:28):
When?

Speaker 1 (05:28):
When uh Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers is is hitting
somebody and someone like hits him from behind saying hey,
and he just does that turn like okay, your next
Like that was the turn my dad. He was like, ah, now,
who's the smartest guy in the world. And you know what,
I did try to say a couple of times out
of your striggle. You know that was Pam's answer, like
that she wanted to go with.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
You know what, when you do the impression of your daddy,
you're sounding more and more like Edward g Robinson.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Yeah, say that it's the smartest guy in the world.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Now, I gotta explain to explained to gen X who
Edward g Robinson. Forget about millennials.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
You couldn't just point Zoe. I could have, I could
have Your dad's not going there. Yeah, no, no, no, no, no,
that's his favorite. That is that is true? That is true. Yeah,
I am.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
If you're if you're doing the rankings of my family,
Zoe's number one, I'm like, Zoe would be like Saint
John's and I'm Syracuse like, oh yeah, Benny is. But
Benny barks at my dad every time he comes in.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
But doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
My dad gives him a treat and trouble he sees,
I said, Dad, he's barking at your Yankee hat.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
What Yeah, he's parking Yankee haet. You can't wear that
when you come in here.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
So it's so.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Now what I gotta do is get Benny like a
like a crappy Yankee hat rohim to just like play
with and bite and carry you know, we play find
All you have to do is go to my dad's
house when he's not there and take it from his closet.
Uh So, congratulations dad, nice job. Uh Now, a couple

(06:51):
of big moves in the NFL in free agency. Let's
talk about one that just happened before we started the
show and one that happened the other day. I'm not
the biggest fan of nause hats. I'm not the biggest fan.
He's not very dynamic. He's gonna give you, you know,
between three and four yards of carry. But one year
to the Chargers from a guy who's been pretty healthy
for the majority of his career, he's still young enough.

(07:12):
The Chargers need that two down running back that's gonna
give them solid production because they went in with it
with an attitude last year. If yeah, it's gonna get
the guys that can't stay healthy for my brother's team, right, No,
that done on. No, come on, Edwards and Dobbins. That's
not gonna work. And it didn't. They got to a
point in the playoffs when they had to run the
football and they couldn't. Now, again, Harris is not dynamic,
He's not that kind of guy. But he's a guy

(07:34):
that's got a nose for the end zone and he's
gonna give you very solid production, which is exactly what
they need. You're you're talking about a team that's now
morphing into You got lad McConkie now and you're looking
at different and you know, and you got Khalil Matt
coming back today. So suddenly you're you're a team that, hey,
we're feeling it. We know how we're building. The first
year went really well. Now we're augmenting that and having

(07:54):
a guy that's gonna stay healthy and especially be that
running back in the playoffs is gonna give you solid production. No,
I like not Harris one year. I mean it's it's
not four years and sixty million, it's one year, ten proven. Okay,
So I like that move.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Yeah, just the you know, you do the sticker shock
and then in a moment and then you look at
the vast amount of wealth being attained by players today,
like nine point one whatever, so be it, because just
looking back to last year's numbers, Yeah, and obviously we
had a top, top heavy class when you look at
the three big guys that moved on, but even the

(08:29):
second tier guys we're at seven to eight nine million dollars.
So it falls in line there. The thing that encourages
me most is you've already got obviously your bookends in
terms of your your offensive line. Still some work to
be done there as we get deeper into free agency
in the draft. But for Harris, last year, you had
the uptick in his usage in the passing game once again.

(08:51):
And I know they had Jalen Warren there, but remember
when he was a rookie he caught seventy four balls
out of the backfield. If they can get him back
to where because last year was about half of that
and the two years in between a decided downturn. With
more Warren, if you can use him a little bit
more and leak him out as a pass catcher as well,

(09:12):
you get that much more dynamism from the offense and
open up some shots downfield. So I like the signing here,
A good veteran, as you say, durable, and that's the key.
We'll see how they pair it up, whether the doll
takes another step forward and becomes that guy, or if
there's something else in the offing.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Yeah, he's a he's a horriball blue collar guy too
like that. This is a Jim Harball. Like we talked
about this with Jason Cole last week. He likes guys
that come in that are going to be an extension
of him and and they are gonna be bluecot guys
that like to go to work, and he rewards He
loves those players and he rewards him. They love playing
for him. And that's kind of what Naji Harris is.
Through all the drama in Pittsburgh. You can count on
him for twenty carries a game, eighty yards a touchdown

(09:53):
Like that's he's not. He's not the running back that
you think you want, that that you would want to.
I want a guy like Jamir Gibbs. I want a
house threat every single pight. No, that's not who he is.
But for this Chargers offense, that's exactly what they need.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
I love them well, but for the purpose of building
an offense, and you want you want to be bully played.
Bully ball. That's what Jim Harbaugh wants to do, right
like his brother. It does over it in Baltimore as well.
It's let's run the ball down your throat. Harris only
averaged three point nine yards per carry, but guess what
three of those first down the ed hockey lee pose

(10:28):
and signal each and every time, and look that's it
long protracted drives and then we'll see what happens in
terms of finding more opportunities to take the cover top
off the defense.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
So that was a good move. Now I like that move.
Now is that going to be a move that puts
them into the super Bowl? But it's a really good move, right,
It's really good.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
The big super Bowl move was made in La over.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
The weekend when the long awaited completion of the DeVante
Adams to the Rams actually happened. And it goes down
for a little bit more money than I thought he
would get. It's a lot of money that is sort
of moved around in roster bonuses they revisit after a year.
I mean, look, I mean you get deals out here
off the field, too.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
So a little bit more.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
I thought it'd be like two years and forty million
for Adams, but it's a little bit more of Hey,
six million guaranteed here, then you got twelve million guaranteed
at the end of the first year, So they're moving
stuff around a little bit so they're not locked into
all the money. They gave him a little bit more
than they needed to give him, but they also have
a way to get out of it doesn't work out
after the first deal. The taco bell commercials he's gonna
have out here are gonna be tremendous. Man, he can

(11:35):
have four of them in his house. It's gonna be great.
But this is a Super Bowl move. This move to
me puts them on equal footing with the Eagles if
they had Davante Adams last year and every year is different,
but if you're replacing Cooper Cup in that playoff game
with the Eagles with Davante Adams, forget it, man, you
are not stopping that Rams offense. They are gonna score

(11:56):
when they need to. How are you gonna stop this
offense where Adams is still an elite outside threat.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
You saw it.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
He jumped to the Jets with no experience in the
offense at all, and suddenly the last eleven games, eight
hundred yards, seven touchdowns. He's still that good. He is
still a top ten wide receiver in the league. Now
you're talking about Stafford with Puka Nakua underneath and Davonte
Adams and Kyron Williams. All of a sudden, this Rams
offense that really overachieved last year is now even more

(12:24):
dangerous than you expect. And the Rams always find a
way to get great depth out of their wide receivers
as well. Whether it's Van Jefferson, I'm sure Jordan Whittington
will have a bigger role this year, DeMarcus Robinson. They
always find guys that show up that hey, look at
this guy catching pet and you look at them in
Fantasy like week thirteen, to go, wow, this guy's got
This guy caught caught six passes each of the last
two weeks. Like they always find a way depth wise

(12:45):
to make it work. I'm telling you they were this
close to the Eagles, probably should have won that game anyway. Now,
Devonte Adams, who is out here with the two years
and a two year deal and where he wanted to
be in his preferred destination, tell him, you, man, I'm
putting the Rams equal with the the Philadelphia Eagles is
Super Bowl favorites for next year.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Williams alongside Blake Korum in the backfield. What they still
need to add is a guy that can stay healthy
playing the tight end position. You also have two two
at well that came back for another year, so you've
got another deep threat there. As I sit and look
at odds right now, you've got the Eagles just ahead
of the Ravens, Chiefs and Bills before you get to

(13:25):
the Lions. All right, the forty nine ers took some
early money because you just have those It's like cub fans.
They just keep pumping into the system until they realize,
all right, we were too heavy on this. This is
just a waste of money because they got rid of everybody.
Even use check didn't survive the cuts and processes today.
Next up in the end, DJ.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Washington, DJ, why don't you check the wires to see
if you still are playing for the forty nine ers
or not?

Speaker 3 (13:52):
Okay, no good, sorry, there you go.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
Then you have the Commanders at nineteen to one, the
Packers at twenty two to one before you get to
the Rams, who are also at twenty to one. So
I like the move when look in the end, it
ends up becoming kind of a swap of the money, right,
isn't that in line within a couple of percent of
where Cooper Cup was supposed to make. So you're still

(14:16):
hoping you get a last minute bid to at least
offset some of the cash before you have to eat
it all and just release him. But yeah, the Rams
with Matthew Stafford upright offensive line playing good football, you
know you got a young, aggressive defense. That's the beauty
of it. You're really not paying any of those guys
just yet, so maybe you can go into free agency

(14:37):
and still sprinkle in another big ad or two. I
got to go back and look at the available dollars.
I can't wait to see that update. It's like a
toad board during the old telethons and stuff that would
be on TV. What do we got and then the
thing would start flipping around and it would show you
the latest totals because there was some silly money spent today.
But the DeVante Adams, look, he'll play good sandbox for

(14:58):
a year.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Yeah, it'll be fine. He'll be unbout you and as
long as they win.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
Maybe two years, but that's all. Sean mcvay's like, I
don't care about next year.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
Just worry about this year.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
I don't care about that. That's next year.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
And work with Stafford for a year and then we'll
look at both of you square in the fates, going
I don't know like that, Go find out what you're worth.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Telling you, man, co favorites with the Eagles. That's how
big he's gonna be for the Get you like basketball.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
I love hey.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
I'm telling you, man, wait till I tell you the

Speaker 4 (17:47):
Bowl quarterback Rex Grossman.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
Jason.

Speaker 5 (17:49):
I saw an article today that I want to READO
America now, Okay, sure, go ahead from the Minnesota Star Tribune. Okay,
Vikings have signed an Aaron Anna Rodgers, but thankfully not as.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
I mean.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
But think about that? How great would that be? Because
what did Brett Farvr do? Talked his way out of
Green Bay, went to the Jets for a couple of years,
started out okay, ended horribly.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
Brett Farve, though that guy saw.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Retired ended up with the Vikings for two years. Rodgers,
Aaron Rodgers could do the same thing.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
He could be a stealer.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
He could follow in Brett forrest footsteps the entire way.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
People off and steal their money too.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
Talk his way out, go to the Jets, not not
succeed for a couple of years.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Finished with the Vikings. It all works and from charity's
that would be all stuff. I just said, on the field, okay,
just on the field. Can't just go on.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Just insure well, okay, well off the field, he's you'n
be looking for UFOs and stuff at night.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
I mean, that's what he's gonna be doing, right.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
Well, I mean, look, you might be able to get
someone to fund that.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
I would say, you know, I'd say, you know what
I heard. I heard in every lake in Minnesota. There
could be an alien for another planet you so was
said in the in the Senate the other day. Apparently
they've been keeping all the UFOs from us for the
last like sixty years.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
I think they're all in lakes somewhere in Minnesota.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
Do they go down and start talking about the healing
and powers and the waters of Lake Minnetonka.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
It's one problem. That's not Lake Minatonka.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
So how about a couple of teams Day one of
NFL free agency that are going to continue to do
things their way, whether it's good all right? First team
is this the Dallas Cowboys who waited.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
Around all the whole day, right whole day.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
I think that was my favorite tweet that I put
out today was let's get a live look at the
Cowboys and it was itchy and scratchy drinking the lemonade
on the porch.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
Lemonade, thank you please.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
The Cowboys do, of course, because Jerry Jones said, hey,
I don't want to spend a lot of money on
free a I don't. I'm not looking to fill any
holes here. So the Cowboys go all day and what
do they do. They go out and get Javonte Williams
from the Broncos right one year, three million dollars from
a guy who three years ago this would have been
an exciting move. But the last three years Javonte Williams

(20:02):
has seen himself carve out less and less of a
role in the offense in Denver. And if you can't
play offense for Sean Payton, like that's a red flag, man, Like,
really that's an entirely red flag. And now Javonte Williams
is like, this is and if you think the Cowboys
are gonna do stuff differently, this is what they're gonna do.
This is how the Cowboys do stuff in free agency. Man,

(20:24):
for Jerry Jones to say last week, we're saving a
lot of money because we convert Dak's cash to a
signing BoatUS, this means we're spending it in free agency,
right And he says, no, no, no, I don't feel
the need to fill holes in free agency, which is
what free agency is all about, filling holes. But this
was your big move day one of a team that
needs a lot. You could have gone out last year
and done some things. What's your first move.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
We're gonna go.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Get a running back who's really disappointed the last couple
of years, saw himself losing less and less of his
of his gig as time went on. And he's gonna
come in and be our number one running back next
year because you know he is. You know he's gonna
be the number one back there.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
All right. Ready for a fun little data point. The Cowboys,
as we've noted, re sign their own free agents. That
loyalty thing that Jerry has had forever. You talk about
DAK and CD wait for it, wait for it. I'll
cost myself more money, but I'm gonna get him in
damn it eventually. The last time they signed a free

(21:17):
agent worth six million dollars or more. You want to
take a guess, Oh, I five years two fifteen, greg
A Hardy, greg A Hardy, he's six million dollars in
twenty fifteen. That was from Bleacher Report earlier today with
a picture of him, and I was like, really, like,

(21:39):
we know that that's part of the mo but you
don't age it. It's like I always age myself like
all right, here's how old I am, and until I
see a guy's kid running around the field, I don't
age them quite in the same fashion, right, Like, oh wait,
now Junior's out there. Yeah, I guess he is getting
longer in the tooth. With this case, you've got a

(22:00):
decade where you've not spent more than six million dollars
on a guy in free agent agency. That is absolutely
insane with the amount of money that gets spent in
it in any given year that Jerry is there. And
this is where we get into you know, the weirdness. Uh,
and folks can get mad at me. But you know,
obviously the Bears are doing business a little differently. Virginia McCaskey,

(22:23):
God blessed. The last football thing she got to see
was the Bears beating the Packers before she passed on.
But you've got Brown in Cincinnati. He's what eighty nine?
You got Jerry Jones, Like someone's got to go in
and say, hey, business has changed. Look we need to
operate a little differently here.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Jerry Jones is a phenomenal owner off the field. On
the field, he is the worst owner right on the
Off the field, he is a best owner man, without
a doubt, one hundred percent. That's why you got such
high marks from his team in the Big Player survey
that went out a couple of weeks ago. But on
the field terrible and one of the things that every

(23:03):
day I feel he is a new reason for Jerry Jones.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
But it's like.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
He's got to you know, he's got to understand the
NFL has passed him by. Right, NFL free agency, when
it really became a big deal in the nineties was
when he first started, when he first bought the Cowboys. Right,
you would have things like Reggie White's free agent tour
was you know, took like a month and it was
where's he gonna go in the early parts of NFL
free agency, and the Cowboys spent a lot of money
and what happened, it didn't work, So okay, So after

(23:27):
a long time, Jerry Jones decided, Okay, now we're not
gonna spend and understanding that I get that there's a
lot of money out there, and our players overpaid in
free agency, Yes, one hundred percent. They are overpaid because
anybody that's out there is someone who another other team says,
we don't have the money to lock you up. And
and most of the people you're gonna get are talented
players that are either coming off down years or have

(23:50):
an injury history. And it's a bit of a it's
a gamble, right frames it's a gamble, and you're hoping
that you make the right decisions to go forward and sorry,
this guy's gonna work out for us. Look, if you
sign six players in free agency and three of them
work out really good, you're you're feeling you're feeling pretty happy.
But Jerry, do you have to understand that free agency
is part of the deal man. This is how teams

(24:10):
get better and and and you need that in conjunction
with the draft, because yes, in theory, if you're Jerry Jones,
you can say what you said last week, we don't
have holes the film, not if you count what we're
gonna do in the draft. Yeah, but that means you
have to get all the draft picks right. And nobody
gets all the draft picks right. Like it's great to
say that. It's great to say, hey, we have a
lot of draft picks. Yeah, but if you screw up

(24:30):
the draft picks, it doesn't matter how many of them
you have. People forget that part of it. Draft picks
are important, but you got to pick the right guys
if you have a If you show that you can't
do it, well, that's a lot of pressure.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
And I know that the money is out there.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
I'm sure Jerry Jones, I'm not going to give this
these bloated contracts to these guys.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
But that's sort of part of the game. Now.

Speaker 1 (24:47):
This is the game. If you don't if you don't
like the game, I'm sorry. This is how it works.
And all you're doing is hurting your own team by saying, yes,
we have all this money to spend, and we're not
gonna do it because I don't want to for whatever reason, Jerry,
I don't want to spend money. Which, okay, so you're
specifically making a decision that's not gonna make the Cowboys better, right,
And we're gonna go bargain basement hunting for running backs

(25:09):
and go bargain basement hunting. And you wonder why the
Cowboys don't win?

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Right?

Speaker 1 (25:13):
We say that at least one a week you wonder
why the Cowboys don't win. But here's your example of
Jerry Jones not embracing that even though you overpay everybody
in free agency, you still have to take part and
you still need to bring new players in and phil
holes because you're not gonna do it all the draft.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
That's why free agency.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
In the draft, they work together, great, they work together awesome, Right,
I mean, this is this is what it is. You
have two chances a month apart to make your team better. Hey,
if you screw up one, okay, we got the other one.
You screw up that, but you have to work both
of them. You can't just sit free agency out like
the Cowboys like to do and have raised that to
an art form. The last couple of years, you can't
do it. And this is why I say the NFL

(25:51):
has passed Jerry Jones by.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
Coming into today. This is off overthecap dot com. The
Cowboys had the ninth most of it aailable cap space
at just under fifty three million dollars to spend below
the Vikings, ahead of the Lions, and we talk about
the Patriots and the crazy money they got. Williams now
has a higher average value than Tom Brady ever had,

(26:16):
so he sent a new record. I think they'll build
a statue to him there in New England. So she
got that going for you. And the Chargers had ninety
three million Cowboys at fifty three still with a lot
of opportunity, a lot more spending they can do. Jason Man,
that's only three million of it.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
Yay, that's right, because that's well if now here's the thing,
it's really thirty three million. Because if you're talking about
the thirty six million we saved on Dak and the
thirty three million I'm going to keep, and the three
million to Javonte, that's a thirty three million dollar sagments
right there.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Now. Do you think they made the move today, just
so they didn't get shut out when they do a
ledger of what everybody did.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
I don't want to get on the interwebs tomorrow and
see if Cowboys do nothing in free agency. Steven, here's
three million dollars. Go get a player.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
We have a conference call. First one to hit a
buzzer gets to three million.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
Ready go?

Speaker 4 (27:10):
Wait?

Speaker 3 (27:10):
I was really the first guy. Yes, Davanta, you were.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
I thought I'd be like the lad I just wanted
to hit the button, so I looked like I wanted
to go there. I'm locked in now right, Yeah, ah, fine,
that's great.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
Whatever.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
I'm gonna call you new Zeke.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Uh, you want to wear twenty one, Well that's not
really my well, twenty one is your number.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
So that's what it's gonna be.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
And it's gonna say E Elliott on the back, but
I'm Jay Wall.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
It's gonna say E Elliott. You want you want that
three million, don't you? All right?

Speaker 1 (27:36):
You want it real money, not cowboy Bucks, right, because
cowboy Bucks you can only spend in the greater Fort
Worth area eighteen miles in any direction. You want this,
I'll get you that, Okay, Javonte, You're good Okay, I'm
just gonna call you Zeke. How do you not that
this three hundred achmnsh So there you go. The Cowboys
just con continue to Cowboy and you wonder why they

(27:57):
don't win, and every I mean it, once a week
there's story that tells you, Okay, now I got why
the Cowboys don't do it?

Speaker 3 (28:02):
Well, I can't wait for next week's story.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
This is like a television show coming up next week
on why the Cowboys don't win. Maybe we'll talk about
the defensive line, maybe we'll talk about the tight end position,
but there will be something. We're gonna have something all
new next week. How many episodes and why the Cowboys
don't win? Fifty two episodes a year. There's one every
single week, and we do a special Christmas one where

(28:25):
it drops. It's kind of like the Star Wars Christmas
special where you get all the Cowboys a year's past
show up to try to save Chewbacca.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
It's a whole big thing.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
Hey look it's be Arthur, gotta look it up.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Then you got the toy Jamonte Williams.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
Sure, yeah, I mean really, the King you wonder why
they wonder why the Cowboys don't win. That's this week's Hey,
thanks for taking apart of this week's Why the Cowboys
Don't win show. We'll see you next week. Goodbye, everybody.
Don't forget have your pet spain or neutered.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
The Cowboys had an opportunity when the Giants became the
laughing stock of the division wrongly show. I mean it
was a bad optic, as we talked about, but with
the hold Saquon Barkley off season hard knocks thing in
Shane's kidnall, but you had the opportunity to grab the
baton and firmly just throw it in their direction. All Right,

(29:13):
you're last, you're last, You're bring up there. And then
then Jerry said, nah, I kind of like that position.
I'd like to see what's in front of me. So
here we are again.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
I'm now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. For Man has been described as the
Jerry Jones of Fox Sports Radio. He kind of sits
back and watches what happens in free agency and talks
about it.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
It's Steve de Seger.

Speaker 6 (29:36):
That's an insult because I could be a general manager.
That's better at this point, honestly, and now defensive end
Chauncey Goldstad is leaving Dallas. Had a career high five
and a half sacks last season. Has agreed to terms
with the Giants on a three year deal, and Yes
Dallas is signing running back Javonte Williams from Denver. The
Chargers are expected to sign running back Naji Harris. The

(29:57):
Chargers re signed linebacker Khalil mack Archer. Wide receiver Josh
Palmer goes to Buffalo. The Bengals signed running back Samaji
p Rhyn. The Giants and wide receiver Darius Slayton agreed
to re sign three year deal. Tampa Bay resigned wide
receiver Chris Godwin and linebacker Hassan Reddick. Houston is signing
wide receivers Justin Watson and Braxton Barrios. New Orleans re

(30:20):
signed defensive end Chase young Tonight to a three year deal.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
The forty nine Ers will reportedly.

Speaker 6 (30:25):
Cut fullback Kyle uscheck the big items from earlier today.
Seattle is signing quarterbacks Sam Darnold to a three year deal.
The Jets gave quarterback Justin Fields a two year contract.
Washington traded four Pro Bowl tackle Laramie Tunsil from the
Texans for four draft choices. The Browns acquired quarterback Kenny
Pickett from Philadelphia. The Dodgers reportedly gave manager Dave Roberts

(30:48):
a four year extension His LA club will be leaving
the States Wednesday for Tokyo. They start with a couple
exhibitions there this weekend, and then the Dodgers and Cubs
open the regular.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
Season next week. In Japan Yankee speak.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
Now, Steve is part of his new contract, he gets
an extra two pitching moves per game that he doesn't
have to answer for at the end of the game.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
Oh, go ahead and say no, not in that. But
you're talking about.

Speaker 6 (31:13):
The guy who had literally never managed any better than
the final month of last season.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
Garrett cole is, sometimes it takes guys ten or twelve
years to figure out how to get so thinking about.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
By way of contrast, eight million dollars a year, what
the hell are we talking about with guys that are
the forty eighth or forty ninth man on a roster
in these NFL contracts.

Speaker 6 (31:33):
Well, then you go to hockey contracts, and it's a
whole nother conversation. Here you go, Garrett cole is out
for the year. The Yankee pitcher will have Tommy John
surgery tomorrow to the NBA. We have two late games
and the Knicks lead is sixty to forty four at
Sacramento with about two minutes left in the first half.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
This has been the longest first half of any game
this year. I can't believe it. We're still in the
first half.

Speaker 6 (31:56):
And they just went to video reviews, so it'll be
close to midnight in New York by the time we
get to halftime of this one. Miles McBride five of five,
shooting fifteen points at Golden State. Warriors still up eighty
eight seventy six over Portland late third quarter. Dallas ended
a five game losing streak with a win at San

(32:16):
Antonio Denver Wanted Oklahoma City. That ends a seven game
win streak of the thunder Charlotte Edge Miami. Boston has
won five straight beat Utah even without Jason Tatum he
sat out with a bad knee, and Brooklyn ended a
seven game losing streak upsetting the Lakers one eleven to
one oh eight. The Nets trailed thirty one sixteen early

(32:36):
in this game. Cleveland, by the way, last night, when
it's fourteenth straight game. The Cavs are fifty four to ten.
They'll be hosting the Nets on Tuesday. And finally, we
do have college basketball Dimension with Selection Sunday coming up
this weekend for the NCAA Tournament field. Wafford is going
after winning the Southern Conference final, Troy takes the Sun

(32:57):
Belt Conference final, and we've got a late set me
in Vegas coming up in the West Coast Conference. It'll
begin Zaga against San Francisco just getting underway. The winner
gets nineteenth ranks Saint Mary's in the final.

Speaker 3 (33:08):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
So what do I always say about history being doomed
to repeat it? Everybody says it, but we talk about
it a lot here on the show.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
Well, no, no, now we got now listen, we'll get
to Justin Fields in a few minutes.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
The Swans used to return to San Capistrana.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
The swallows, Swallows, Swallows, the Swan's coming back. That'd be
a new thing, that.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
Would be new. Sorry, I went for the because they're
not coming back anymore. No, they they didn't be new
to anybody.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
They found a new place going. They don't do anything
for us. Let's go to someplace new. Now, let's go
hang out with the Swans. Let's go there instead.

Speaker 4 (34:59):
You know, I watch Big I'd never seen that before.
Steve Martin and Owen Wilson and Jack Black. It's an
old movie where they go birding, ah, going birding on
a Friday.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
That they do that. That birding is what they do.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
They do that in Philadelphia for the Eagles, and were going,
you're gonna go birting, go birding, go birding, go burting,
mel birds, go birding, go birding, bell bird. We grease
up the polls and we climbed to So we talked
about the Cowboys continuing to repeat their ill advised strategy
the last couple of years by ignoring free agency. They
ignored it. Today they signed Jevonte Williams. Great, would have
been great a couple of years ago. One year, three million. Yeah,

(35:37):
their running game will be the same. You know why
the Cowboys don't win. But the other team that seems
to be bent on replicating that is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
We have told you you can't and you know, you
can't go shopping for a quarterback at a yard sale. Okay,
there's some positions you can go shopping at a yard
sale for. You can't go shopping at a yard sale

(35:59):
for a quarterback. You would think that they learned their
lesson last year by saying, well, let's see, hey, we're
getting Justin Fields for absolutely nothing. We're getting Russell Wilson
for absolutely nothing. That's gonna work. Well, you bench the
first guy who turned out to be the better of
the two quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
It really didn't work with Russell Wilson. So what are
the Steelers doing now?

Speaker 1 (36:18):
According to multiple reports, they are now deciding between potentially
bringing Russell Wilson back and maybe signing Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 4 (36:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:27):
Again, you can't go shopping for a quarterback at a
yard sale. You can't go hear they're gonna have baseball cards.
I want to be that guy that goes to the
yard sale and buys a box of baseball cards or
ten dollars and they're worth like five million dollars. And
I got a Honus Wagner, and I got a Mickey Mantle,
and I got a whole bunch of suff You can't
do that, and yet here are the Steelers trying to

(36:47):
do it again. Aaron Rodgers should not be somebody that
the Steelers are going after. Right, you just tried something
with the aging quarterback, hoping he's got something left. You
make a trade for DK Metcalf. You have a really
good team. Your defense is really good. You're always there
at the end. You're a playoff team. No, no, no no,
we're not gonna try to spend and really go after

(37:08):
We're gonna really try to bargain basement Phi leans a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
Out of here.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
You know what, You're doomed if you keep doing this,
you are doomed to lose. You are doomed to it
because you can't Again, there's many you can do it
if you say, hey, we got to do a little
try to find the best thing we can At a
guard spot, I get it right, a little bit inside linebacker,
I understand, right, But a quarterback is where hey, it's
the most important position. And this and Mike Toummlin feels like, yeah,

(37:35):
this is like yeah, we don't we don't need to
do it. We don't need to make that a super
important We just got to get a guy and maybe
we'll get lucky at it. This is how you don't
win in the NFL. Nobody who goes looking for a
quarterback like that is a Super Bowl contender. But yet
the Steelers, who every year have a really good team,
they finish over five hundred, they're in the playoffs. There
they find a way. Now that this is how they're
doing it. You would have think they would have learned

(37:56):
their lesson, but nope, here they are. They're gonna bring
back two guys actually be older than the quarterback they
had last year.

Speaker 4 (38:02):
I mean, come on, man, yeah, I think the curiosity right,
and Russell Wilson had a couple of games that you thought, okay,
things are turning well and then and then it was
an abject failure. Right, it turned midnight, he was back
into a pumpkin and that was the end of it.
But what's intriguing is data point I used a little
bit earlier in the program, is the deep ball and

(38:25):
completable passes to where Gino and Sam Darnold are some
of your leaders, as are you know the moonballs that
we'd love from Russell Wilson, right, Or for Aaron Rodgers
and his accuracy, Well, what do you have? You have
two burners guys where the average air yards on their
completions last year were thirteen to five or higher. I

(38:50):
think it was thirteen point five and then thirteen point
eight or thirteen point nine between DK and George Pickens.
So if that's where you're shifting, and that was leave
an awful lot of the middle of the field for
Friarmouth and a running back leaking out of the backfield
like Jalen Warren or whoever else you're gonna use to

(39:10):
stand in for Naji Harris, Now that he's gonna be
a Charger, that you have some opportunity. So I guess
the logic on them, but it's still the don't don't
you want a guy of the future. Don't you want
to build towards a Bill George a brighter tomorrow Smith.
Otherwise it's another look. They've been running status quote forever right.

(39:33):
Their offense has been terrible, despite having good weapons on
the outside, despite having an above average offensive line. Most years,
they haven't been able to finish. And now I guess
that's what Mike Donalind likes. Hey, we're gonna be in
that nice meaty ten and seven, nine and eight, Maybe

(39:54):
we win eleven games. Who knows.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
I mean really, I mean, you're talking about out a
strategy that you know doesn't work, that you've been told.
It's almost like that the Steelers want to be stubborn
that oh, we're still gonna do this just because you
keep telling us it can't work. Like we're gonna continue
to beat my head against this wall until my head
breaks through the wall. Well, here's the thing you. Yours
is a human head and this is a brick wall.

(40:19):
You're not Britton. No, I'm gonna keep banging my head
again till I break through strictly because hey, it's not
We're gonna understand that you gotta get out of your
own way, and the Steelers just don't do it.

Speaker 4 (40:27):
You don't know, the human head weighs eight pounds, but
the uh.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
You know, dogs and bees can smell, fear.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
Cats and dogs living together. All of that to say
they like being in the mix and being discussed comes
in January.
